[SOLVED] Windows not genuine error on a genuine Windows PC.

Q: [SOLVED] Windows not genuine error on a genuine Windows PC.

Hi,

OS: Windows 7 Professional 64bit. Used since Win7 came out with no genuinity issues until now.

A short while after the SP1 update I started getting popups claiming my Windows is not genuine. I know for a fact that my Windows is genuine.

Properties show my Windows is activated. I have activated both online and by phone yet the popup still keeps appearing. The MGA diagnostics show that there is a tampered file and apparently it is causing the validation to flag my system as not genuine:

Admin Service: Registered, Version: 7.1.7600.16395
HealthStatus Bitmask Output:
Tampered File: %systemroot%\system32\slcext.dll|slcext.dll.mui
I have tried to fix this for a while now. The file seems to be associated with MUI packages and Something called Vistalizator.

I have checked the registry and there are no MUI's. US-EN only. I do not have anything called Vistalizator.

I am rather frustrated with googling in microsoft pages as they all lead to the Vistalizator and MUI packs but I don't have them so the fix does not apply.

Thanks.

There was a 5 page thread on trying to downgrade from Ultimate to Win 7 Pro but I thought I should start a new thread. I have a thead on a different forum but was hoping someone here might know the answer.

Users computer says Windows is not genuine, was 7 pro, in Sept 2013 we upgraded to Ultimate to use Bitlocker. System bought from Dell, used Anytime Upgrade to Ultimate. I spent ages on phone with Microsoft today, they have completely agreed both copies are valid, and the computer is saying they're not, in error, they will not admit that it's a Windows Update that caused it likely.

They took over remotely, and 30 minutes later gave up, none of the methods worked. She then advised me to BUY a copy of 8.1 and do a clean install. I don't want 8.1, if we have to reinstall I'd rather do Win 7 Pro again(same valid code) and then up to Ultimate again(same valid code), or go to Win 10 when it comes out. Of course you can't upgrade a "non genuine" copy of Windows 7 to win 10, even if it is in fact genuine.

We don't want to have to reinstall. MS also told me I need to downgrade to Win 7 Pro, put in the code, then upgrade to Ultimate. To do that they said I have to do a clean install. I've seen all the links to Windows Downgrader but we aren't exactly thrilled to be advised to use a 3rd party app. I have not tried the registry suggestions yet, I'm not particularly comfortable dealing with the registry. Two questions.

If MS had been willing to just give me a new U... Read more

Hi

I have an ASUS notebook (U31F i5 with 4 GB mem) which until recently I used only occasionally. It has Legit Office 2010, but no CD/DVD drive. My desktop hard disk crashed in a big way so I am using the notebook as my main computer.

It has just recently started throwing up messages that my Windows Homw Premium (x64) is not genuine. It is gebuine OEM and activated (back when I got the notebook), and I have not tampered in any way.

I have had a look at some other threads on this forum on this issue, and so have dowloaded and run MGAdiag.exe, but to my inexpert eye, it appears to report everything OK.

I have pasted text in below, and would welcome more expert advice as to whther I have missed something, and if not, what should I do next?

regards

Hi,

my first time on these forums so please bear with me. I am having trouble installing Win XP on a NEW WD 80 GB hard drive. I have a genuine product key and have tried installing this OS on the above drive fitted to three different machines ( from a P3 733Mhz with 512mb ram to a P4 2.6Ghz with 512mb). All these systems bar one have an ACER branded motherboard. The other board was a Dell. I keep getting the same message saying the CD key is not valid. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Aaron

Hello and thanks in advance to whoever can help me.

A couple of days ago I was downloading some video files and since I wasn't paying attention I clicked an .exe instead of a video file. I know this makes me the idiot, but I have beaten myself up over it for a while and cannot fix this myself so I am now humbly coming forward with my idiocy to get my Toshiba Qosmio back up and health. So here's the deal:

I got the popup that I wasn't running a genuine copy of Windows 7 64 bit Pro (which I am...came from the factory). Tried to resolve it online and the only answer I got was to buy another copy of Windows, which I don't really want to do. Then I tried to run Windows Update and I get random error codes as to why I can't. I tried a system restore and got a message that there is an error on my hard drive, to run chkdsk. Tried that, nothing. Even when Windows rebooted it wouldn't let me. So then I boot towards the safe mode menu and see an option for Windows Repair, choose that and click on system restore. I pick a restore point a week or so ago and try to restore. Negative. Got a message that not only could it not restore but now that restore point was damaged (hooray). Tried rebooting to that screen and all I get is black: pointer works with touch pad but not mouse. Tried booting into safe mode and I couldn't get explorer.exe to run and had no icons. Then rebooted to Last Known Good Configuration which is where I am now.

My computer ran some updates overnight this week, and ever since then i've been getting a popup telling me my copy of Windows is not genuine. I bought the computer a year or two ago with Windows preinstalled and haven't made any changes to my system recently. I'm still showing that my Windows is activated in Properties, but i keep getting the popup, and running the validation link from the popup itself at microsoft.com results in it just sort of...dangling there spinning, and nothing happens. Any ideas?

This weekend, I bought and installed a new SSD into my computer. I re-installed my Windows 7 (Home Premium x64 OEM) onto it, (fresh install, no migrate) and immediately formatted my mechanical HDD.

I went into my BIOS and changed boot priority. (I set it to CD first, because I was re-installing from the disc, followed by my SSD.) I changed BIOS Drive positions, with my SSD as #1 and HDD as #2.

On my Mobo, my SSD is plugged into SATA3 Port #1. My HDD is plugged into SATA2 Port #1.

As soon as I got Windows installed, I started re-installing programs, setting up my admin account, and generally resetting my system, theme, Rainmeter, etc. Then I started getting messages that I wasn’t running Genuine Windows. I clicked the “Resolve Online” button, and downloaded the authenticator software, which told me I needed to buy a copy of Windows.
This irritated me, because I am running a key I bought legitimately, and I have the packaging and CoA.

Including the little (~100 MB) System partition with the Master Boot Record? If not, I'm guessing that when you re-installed Windows 7 it simply added the new installation to the MBR w/o caring whether the original installation really still existed.

I've gotten that "not genuine" message a couple times after an update, but the online resolution has always worked for me. You have tried that again, right?

I have a MSDNAA account where I downloaded my copy of Windows 7 Pro, so its genuine, but when my computer is idle for sometime, in the lower right corner of the screen, sometimes appears the "not genuine" text with "evaluation copy etc etc". I go to Control Panel - System, then windows activates itself again, turning genuine again. This happened two times, yesterday and today. Is this a bug or what?

Hello all, and thank you for the oppurtunity to post.
I got a Pop-up, titled Microsoft Security Essential, which states I am infected by a Trojan. At the same time I was surprised to see a Windows Genuine notification , which stated that because I have made major changes since I first loaded Windows XP Pro, I now have to reactivate windows. Is this for real? The Microsoft notice will not go away no matter what I do, it sits in the middle of the screen and resists all efforts to close. If this is a Virus I am sure I will need Help in removing. Thanking you in advance,

Hello, I am using an Acer Aspire 5738G, which originally came with Windows Vista Home Premium. Later I got the free Windows 7 Home Premium update disc and never encountered any problem.

But since the last 1 month or so, I've been getting this 'Windows not genuine' message on a random basis. Microsoft Security Essentials says that it will disable itself within 30 days if the issue is not resolved. When I click on 'Resolve issue', an IE window is opened and takes me to Microsoft's website. When I do all the steps explained, everything goes back to normal and my Windows is again considered as genuine.

I am a bit worried, although I can always solve the problem, it still irritates me when I see the 'Windows not genuine' message. What could be the cause of the problem and what is the solution?

Thanks in advance.

A friend of mine has a Windows XP Home Edition machine running Service Pack 2. She called me along this afternoon because she has been having problems with the machine for several weeks! Anyway this machine runs Norton Internet Security Center which was up to date as of a few weeks ago, but because of her problem it no longer seems able to complete its update process although she has 322 days left of her subscription. I tried several times but each time the update process terminated after doing some of the downloads. There is also an icon in her system tray area (right hand side) which refers to the non-genuine windows message and tells her to clickon it to resolve the non-genuine Windows problem.

The problem she has is that on boot up she gets a message saying that her version of Windows is not genuine (it is since it was supplied with the machine 4 years ago) and what is more it talks about Windows XP Professional whereas she has Windows XP Home. In addition to these messages which give her the option to resolve the problem now or later, she gets pop-ups at various times saying that her copy of Windows is not genuine, maybe counterfeit etc.

In addition when these problems started to occur she says she was no longer able to connect to the internet (she has a router and broadband) - I noticed that her connection was disabled so I re-enabled this and we can now connect to the Internet.

She also has problems with IE (think it is V8) whereby it comes up with an error aft... Read more

My HP Pavilion dv6 laptop suddenly has decided Windows is not Genuine. I put in the number on the bottom of the laptop and it says it is verified and good. But then after a while it goes back to saying it is not Genuine. I am out of the country at the moment, and I need to fix this in the meantime. I do Slui 3 and fix it, because if I try to go online to do this it won't finish it up, it just sits there loading. I haven't had issues with this laptop at all otherwise. Been using it for years. Bought it brand new. I do have virus protection but I am beginning to wonder if this is a virus? Or something like that? You would think that after entering the right number and getting the yes this is valid that it would be fine?

I had a non-genuine copy of Ms Office installed on my computer, and have now purchased a genuine copy. Uninstalling the old (non-genuine) copy is impossible because it doesn't have an uninstaller, and it doesn't even show in Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs. So I just installed my genuine copy in a different folder in Program Files, so that the non-genuine copy wouldn't interfere with the newly installed genuine copy.

The problem is that even though I tried opening Ms Word or Excel directly from the newly installed folder and not from the old link to the old version, it still gives me a message (like before) that says "Get Genuine Office - This copy of Office is not genuine".

How do I get rid of the old (non-genuine) Ms Office if I am unable to uninstall it? Please don't tell me to work on the registry - I don't want to touch the registry because I'm not a computer pro, and I won't know what I'm doing. I just want to get rid of the message that says get genuine Office.

I am using Windows XP Home.

Thank you

Hello All,

After having been gone from my computer for a couple weeks, I turned it back on right after new years and started getting a message that my copy of Windows is not Genuine. As far as I know, it is genuine, though. I did a google search on it and it came up that there was a rash of bogus "not genuine" reports lately. But the solutions I've found don't work.

1. I went to this page:http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/im-being-told-my-copy-of-windows-is-not-genuine/af081166-7eb4-4599-b1ef-c65c64f14275
and downloaded the "Intel Rapid Storage" driver. When I try to install it, it tells me that I do not meet the minimum system requirements. I then searched for update KB3004394 to uninstall it. I have no such update on my computer.
2. I went to this page and downloaded the new patch. The new patch does absolutely nothing:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3024777
3. I went to this page:https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2008385
and typed slmgr.vbs /dlv in the search bar. The error message I receive is 0xC0004F200 (non-genuine). When I google this, I get a bunch of videos about how to fool a non-genuine copy of windows into thinking it's genuine. If it's genuine, then I shouldn't have to do this...

It was after 12/16 that I first had this problem, after a slew of updates were installed. So I turned off automatic updates and uninstalled all of the updates after that date, one-by-one. It did not resolve the p... Read more

A:Windows not genuine error

The problem is that your system is unable to properly read the BIOS SLIC table that should be present in the system to be able to self-activate the OS.

You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case, using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.

You may need to activate by phone.

Over this past summer around June I helped my dad purchase retail copies of windows 7, and install/upgrade his work computers with Windows 7 professional 64 bit from the windows xp that they had all been running since it was no longer going to be covered by Microsoft. In the past month, all 5 computers have had the "Windows Build 7601 Not Genuine" message pop up in the bottom right hand corner with the black screen etc...

After browsing these forums for the past 2 weeks, I've tried just about everything I can to get them working again without having to buy new Windows 7 Codes. I know the OS software is genuine because when I run the validation test online it always says, "Congratulations, you're running genuine windows, download the MSE stuff for free etc...."

Anyways... I did clean installs from scratch, so nothing was left on the computers beforehand, but used windows easy transfer to transfer their files and settings back to the computers afterwords. We installed all the software from corporate that they needed and it was generally just a huge pain to get everything re-imported (especially with their outlook profiles and settings) and back up in running smoothly; however, we managed. Now though, after about 5ish months even after all 5 computers have had windows running fine, activated, and updating regularly, they've all decided to no longer be genuine as it stated above. The error that we keep getting is:

The Key in use is an MSDN Key from a not-for-resale MSDN account.
Unless you are an MSDN subscriber, you are not entitled to use the Key – and whoever sold it to you was not entitled to do so.
You need to claim an immediate refund from the vendor - do NOT accept the offer of a new key (all they are trying to do is to get past the 45-day claims window or avoid you sending the evidence of their crimes to the authorities)

About two months ago I did a factory reset on this system and everything was running fine until April 4, 2016.

Now I keep getting a a Windows not Genuine error on bottom right.
Basic information also shows Windows Activation and Product ID as Not Available but Windows Update still works and the system is fully updates.

sppsvc is visible but I keep getting error 2 and I can't start it. Administrator's do have access to it from what I can see.
C:\Windows\System32>net start sppsvc
System error 2 has occurred.

So im having to deal with a second PC with this issue now. One I know for a fact is clean of viruses and never been infected. It started one day coming up with the not genuine popup at boot and wants to run the genuine validation stuff or something to that nature. When you open the validation app it says all is good. Tried changing the product key to the key on the bottom and activation was successful again. But it still insists its not genuine.

Any ideas on this one?

Both of the PC's this issue is on reloading windows isnt an option. Can TRY a "upgrade" repair on one of them if you guys think it will work and not be more broken afterwards.

A:windows 7 not genuine error pop up

The installation of Windows is counterfeit - and the installation of Office is a Volume Licensed version commonly counterfeited.

The machine is only licensed for Windows Vista - not for Windows 7 - unless you have purchased an Upgrade to Windows 7.

The COA sticker should tell you for which version of Windows the machine is licensed - but I suspect that although the Key is perfectly legible, the version and edition of Windows will have been erased.

Obviously, after a year, it's a little difficult to return the machine for a refund

I do however recommend reporting your vendor to MS and the local trading standards people - and possibly the FBI (they have jurisdiction over counterfeit software)

Options:
1) contact the manufacturer and order a set of Recovery media for the machine - which will be Vista
2) Purchase a new Full License for Windows 7 and clean install that
3) Assuming the COA sticker exists - purchase an Upgrade to Windows 7, and use that for a clean install
4) See if the machine will upgrade to Windows 8 and go direct to that, if you fancy the idea. Note you will probably have to use a Full license for this, as the workarounds that work for Win7 no longer work for Win7.

A:windows seven not genuine error

Hi muntazar. Welcome to SF

It seems like that the windows installed on your PC is not genuine, it is pirated. You can check with the vendor who installed/sold Win 7 DVD on your PC and ask for authenticity.

A:windows update fail error 8000FFFF also showing windows not genuine

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=21730

(you want the iata_enu.exe download)

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.
If that one fails, try the earlier driver set -

Hi,

I have owned my laptop for 1 and a half years now and all of a sudden I'm getting this error. I brought the laptop in to the shop 2 weeks ago after it started smoking from the power input plug area and it works fine up until today's error.

The scenario was kind of weird. My battery was plugged in and the blue light on the battery was on but my laptop was indicating that it wasn't plugged in. I shut down, and tried the plug again. The battery light lit up on the front of the laptop, so I powered back on. Upon loading up, I get the Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine error. Not sure if these events are related. I updated all my windows updates and restarted. Then I am now getting a prompt for an invalid activation key.

I ran a windows activation validation, and it says "Windows has not yet been activated with a genuine product key. Not to worry, we can help with that"

And then lists a bunch of prices for windows 7...

Laptop:
Asus K53S

I'm not very good with computers. I had a sticker on my laptop that was peeling off so I removed it and apparently my activation key along with it, not realizing I might need it again... I have the box it came in but I don't see an activation key on that.

Help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

A:Windows 7 error: Build 7601, this copy of Windows is not genuine

Oh geez... I called up Asus and the guy informed me that my key was on the back of the laptop. Putting that in fixed my issues, hahaha.

Hello

So after almost a year with a legit copy from a PC dealer, im now getting this "This computer is not running genuine windows" error pop up a couple times a day.

Im unable to open the validation site in IE even with active script on, and the legitcheck.hta says it's not a valid windows. I have tried the method of cmd.exe with admin rights and it successfully activated the windows product code on my case. Still no change.

slui.exe and slui.exe 4 doesn't open at all for me. Neither does the "Activate Windows" shortcut.

I have multi language installed from dealer if that makes any difference (Norwegian & English)

Im leaning towards it might be either malware or an error with either an AntiVirus or a registry cleaner.

Please help

Currently getting the error 0xC004F057 - Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine. A couple of months ago I upgraded to a SSD and cloned the previous HDD using Acronis. I didn't have any activation issues at that time, although I can't remember if I did activate (1st time I have done this). I followed this by upgrading to Windows 10. The upgrade worked but the system was slow so I reverted back to Windows 7. Everything was fine until a couple of days ago. I have since tried typing in the product key from the sticker but it says it is not a valid. The other thing I note is that the sticker is saying I have Windows 7 Home Premium, but the report below is saying I have Windows 7 Professional. Appreciate any guidance to fix. Cheers

My Dell XPS 8700, I bought from Dell has been a pretty good machine. But then I started seeing the modem failing to initialize. It would do this for so long, I'd have to get up an walk away for awhile. Other times only a system restore would fix it, but even that wasn't guaranteed. I noticed when I gave up and finally just want to reboot that it would hang on "Windows is shutting down," but never would. My last resort then is to do a hard shut down. Only problem then is that it would hang on "Please wait while your computer is updating." Only it would never boot back up. If it leave it like this overnight then sometimes I wake up to the desktop but the modem is still not engaged. The modem is a cable modem and it was JUST changed out to a newer one about three weeks ago. But this intermittent problem has been going on for well over a year. Now the most recent development is that the lower right corner of the desktop says that my Windows is not genuine. The ONLY thing that is not OEM from Dell on this computer is my sound card. I installed a Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi on it the day I got the computer.

I run CCleaner both for windows cache and registry cleaner on average once a week, and it is constantly active. I'm on my computer mostly for college but I also play a lot of games on Pogo. I'm not what you would consider a "gamer" utilizing other online platforms.

I'm running an i7 processor with 8GB ram. My Windows Experience Index rating is... Read more

from where did you get the Win 7 copy that you are using? If you bought it, seems like the copy that you have is not legit. Normally you can just go to MS site and activate the windows.

Hi all,

Randomly had a not-genuine error pop up on me last night. The copy of windows IS genuine, I purchased this PC directly from DigitalStorm and never had any issues until last night. I'd like to repair any missing/corrupt files if possible.

After searching high and low I've found a few steps to try and diagnose the issue: I've run chkdsk on the OS HD, and then ran SFC SCANNOW from elevated cmd.

I've included the CBS.log and I've also run the diagnostics tool, here are the results (below)

Thank you SO MUCH for any help you can provide!!!

All the best,

Mike

A:Windows genuine error message

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool

(download and save to desktop -
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
 Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
  - **in your own thread**, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Hi,

I had to replace a failed HDD in a Win 7 laptop. The laptop is An Acer 5738Z (Intel CPU), and without any setup CD. I have another laptop which is the AMD version of this one so is very similar. I do have a Win7 CD for this and have used it to install windows on the 5738Z. It all seemed to work fine and I used the CD key which is printed on the target machine so I thought that all the licencing should be ok.

It seems not, I am getting an error 0xC004F063 which says the BIOS version is not right.

I feel surprised that it has a problem since the Win7 disc used is supplied by Acer (although for my AMD laptop).

Does anyone know of a way around this problem?

A:0xc004f063 Error Says not genuine windows

You can use any retail disk to clean reinstall factory OEM with the Product key on COA sticker, as long as it is same version: Reinstalling Windows 7

Your problem is likely using the Acer-supplied Reinstallation DVD for another computer which has the SLP (factory) activation slipstreamed into it.

Did you have to type the Product Key?

Try changing the Product Key at Computer>Properties to the one on the COA sticker. If that doesn't work find a Win7 retail installer to use to do the clean reinstall so that the SLP activation on the Acer DVD doesn't interfere.

A:Windows 7 Not genuine error on IE 11 downgrade

You cannot legally use an OEM_SLP Key in a Virtual machine - the installation is counterfeit.

If you have a legal license for Windows 7 Pro that isn't tied to a machine already, then you can swap the Key into this install and activated that.

Hello all, and thank you for any help in advance.

So a month or so back the HDD that came with my Acer started to die and I was fortunate enough to be able to save my data by imaging onto a new drive. But just a few minutes ago I got the "Your Copy of Windows is Not Genuine" message and am now freaking out a bit.

I attempted to run the activation software from Windows but I recieve an error 0xC8000247 when I tried, and Im not really sure how to proceed. The system info says Im activated and Ive never had a problem before with the genuine box or Windows Updates. Please advise.

I was using my laptop as usual and I got a pop up. I then closed that pop up message and it restarted. I am able to login, but I can't do much more than that. I can't even type in a product key. I have no idea why this happened. I wish I could go back and do a system restore, but that's not possible right now for obvious reasons. If I try to type in a product key, I get this message in the screenshot. Also, I'm not looking to do a clean install as it would wipe all data I have on the HD and have no room on my external to back up otherwise I would do a clean install. I'm looking to undo any changes before this happened.

Please help!
Steve

I turned on my pc this morning and it said

"You may be a victim of software counterfeiting"

My license key is apparently invalid according to microsoft's validation service. But my actual key isn't invalid. I have a fully licensed version of windows.

Can anybody help me fix my computer? I would really like to do it without formatting my pc - I have a lot of important information and files which I would not like to lose.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Validate Windows at this web site http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/val...displaylang=en If it says it's invalid you will have the choice to contact Microsoft by phone and if your product key is valid give you another working key.

I was asked to move this to a new post, so I am reposting my original message and then an update:

I am also getting the popup that says Windows is not genuine after an HDD upgrade. It is coming up more and more frequently. I have "successfully" activated it over the phone and over the internet. The registry shows the correct key as being installed, but if I go to Windows system settings, it shows the wrong product ID, no matter how many times I change it. Also, if I go anywhere that you check if Windows is activated, it says that it is activated and genuine, but I still get the popup.

I have a screenshot of the Windows is not genuine message on my screen at the same time as The Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool saying it is genuine. (See attached.)

Update:
Following Slartybart's recommendation, I tried suggestions given in similar posts. I cannot post the errors received when I try activating, because I do not receive errors. It always tells me activation was successful, no matter what activation method I use.

Also, when I click resolve online now, it brings me to an MS page that downloads a validation program, which fails to install, error 0xC8000247. I have tried that several times.

Running Lenovo Windows 7 Ideapad.  This was bought from Amazon in USA in 2012. Windows is built in so our Windows is genuine. However we get a message 2-3 times every day telling us our Windows is not genuine. I have both the Product Key and Serial Number. I understand from searching Google that this message is quite common, but getting rid of it may be difficult. I am extremely annoyed by this as it seems a Windows update is responsible. We had our updates set to automatic but I have changed that instruction.  I thought I would ask the experts here if there is anything I can do without wrecking the system!

I have tried the Windows Validation method but that did not work. I also tried the Lenovo Support about this problem:

I am not very advanced technically speaking.

Thanks

Help! I have been getting the "Windows Not Genuine Error - 0x8004fe21" error message for the past few months. I have Windows 7 Professional 32-bit, SP-1. I have had the computer for over a year and this message started appearing just a few months ago. Microsoft was no help with phone reactivation or live help assistance.

I did not perform any hardware upgrades before this started appearing and have tried many other suggestions listed online (including many of the ones here listed by Noel)...still to no avail.

Any more suggestions? Thanks to anyone who can help!

Here are the results of my MGADiag report:

I got this error an hour ago and its really driving me insane.

What happened was windows update did its usual thing, however when it went to install the updates, an error window popped up telling me that my copy of windows may not be genuine and I need to validate it.

Down in the lower right corner of my screen rests an error code:

Windows 7
Build 7601
This copy of Windows is not genuine

The validation came back and told me my windows copy is indeed not genuine and redirected me to a screen to purchase a new windows activation code.

However, I know for a fact my copy of windows is, genunine. I bought this laptop nine months ago, I also bought the windows 7 software, and I installed it to my hard drive.

I have no hard drive damage, to my knowledge. The only major thing I have had happen is that monitor damage that happened a while back, that a few users helped me out with.

I did searches on this error. A lot of them are saying that its a Trojan. Well I did run my computer antivirus, along with windows defender and nothing was found. I checked my downloaded files, to make sure nothing snuck in. Nothing.

After nine months, it just suddenly comes up and tells me I have a bootleg copy? The hell?

Help please.

Edit: Here is the error code on my screen.

A:windows not genuine error message

The Key in use isan MSDN Key from a not-for-resale MSDN account.

Unless you are anMSDN subscriber, you are not entitled to use the Key – and whoever sold it toyou was not entitled to do so.

You need to claiman immediate refund from the vendor - do NOT accept the offer of a new key (allthey are trying to do is to get past the 45-day claims window or avoid yousending the evidence of their crimes to the authorities)

I purchased my lappy 3 years ago with original windows7. Due to some window update in dec 2013 , it started giving me the error "This copy of windows is not genuine". Build 7601. Please help.

A:Getting error:This copy of windows is not genuine

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/234159-windows-genuine-activation-issue-posting-instructions.html

Ignore errors produced when clicking on the Copy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Hi,

In the hopes that someone can dig me out of this mess...

About a month ago a CHKDSK encountered an error on slc.dll. Shortly after that I began to receive the "this computer is not running genuine windows" error as so many others have.

I tried to dig through all of the similar problems and performed a number of steps to try to fix the problem.

I performed these steps to attempt to resolve the problem:
chkdsk c: /r/f

- runs clean
sfc /scannow

- error message showing that errors occurred
checked for existence of slc files and their privileges:

A:Windows 7 Not Genuine - Error: 0x46

The problem here is an unusual one - the SYSTEM account registry entry is missing.

I've uploaded a file - s1520a.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it to your desktop.
Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Save it to the default location
This should create a file s1520.reg (in the folder s1520a)

right-click on the file, and select Merge
Accept the warnings, - you should then get a 'Success' message.
Close all windows, and reboot.

Run another MGADiag report, and post the results.

A:Windows 7: Not running genuine Windows message error

Can anyone help, please?

Answer Match 89.04%

I have just noticed the following error message coming up in the right corner of my screen on boot-up...

Windows 7
Build 7601
This copy of windows is not genuine

This error doesn't seem to appear every time I boot and I'm not entirely sure when it began. My PC is custom built and I got it in about Feb/March this year. The last Windows update was on 14th Aug so I assume things were OK then.

When I look at the System in Control Panel, it shows that Windows is activated and has a Product ID code with OEM in the middle of it.

I've tried to read about this online. Am I right in thinking one particular key has stopped working and I might need to use the one on the side of the computer? If so, why would the first one stop and does this mean that I have lost the ability to use the first key and am now only down to one? Sorry if this is a naive question. I'm not at all technical.

Here is my MGADiag report. I'm hoping someone might be able to assist me. Many thanks.

A:Windows 7 Build 7601 - windows not genuine error

There's no problems showing in the report - Windows is properly activated, and was successfully validated on 7th June (or maybe 6th July!). There certainly doesn't look to be anything wrong with your Key.

The symptoms you're describing are typical of a race condition - often caused by conflicting security software.
What AV is currently installed? Whot other security software is installed?
What other AV's have EVER been installed?

Hello,
Im in a trouble, so im hoping that you will help me.
I had a genuine windows 7 for a laptop a while ago, then i sent the laptop to my parents in a different country.
So i bought a new pc, without a operating system, driven by a lack of money i downloaded the old not genuine xp. Along came problems, unknown errors, bugs, etc.
Like for example, now i cannot start safe mode, i cannot make a new partition thru cmd or partition magic cause of somekind of file xmnt.exe is missing.
Sadly, i want to keep my bought games and programs, 'cause my internet is pretty slow, so it will take for ages to redownload/reinstall everything.

The question is: Can i upgrade my not genuine windows xp to windows 7 by buying it and installing like it's a common program keeping all of the programs/games/etc.?

Thank you in advance.

A:Upgrade not genuine windows xp to genuine windows 7.

Sadly if you are looking to regain stability your best bet would be a fresh install of windows 7
Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

as outlined there you can do a fresh install with the upgrade disc, this would result in the loss of your games and programs, though do a straight upgrade from xp to win 7 without cleaning out the garbage is just going to make win 7 run horribly too.

Hi.
Almost a year ago I purchased a Toshiba laptop that had Windows 7 preloaded on it. For the past two weeks I have been receiving error messages that say my copy of Windows is not genuine. It crashes frequently and when I tried to do a system restore, the only restore point is the previous day. I am not very savvy when it comes to fixing these problems, but I did search the forums for advice and tried to run the Diagnostic Tool and here are my results. I really need to get this problem fixed as I do my homework on the computer and this is slowing me down. Also the computer has been very slow lately. Even when I run Microsoft Essentials to clear up any problems, it does not find any. Please help.

A:Windows not genuine after doing recovery (error 0xc004e003)

I've still got the validation issue since repairing my windows. Could this have happened because I used the wrong repair tool?

Looks like my ram was causing the blue screens, updating windows completely made it even worse in the end. Maybe the updates increased the amount of ram I was using on startup? I ran a memtest and got a few hundred thousand errors, so i tested every slot and every piece of ram. Turns out my second ram slot is buggered? I put a tested 6+ pass piece of ram in the second slot and ran the test, nothing but errors. This means i just shouldnt use the slot and im good right?

Anyway, below is the output of MGADiag, could someone help please?

I have read several threads on this topic and attempted to do many of the fixes recomended. I have been at this all day and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

Earlier tonight I got the "FBI Money Pack Virus" on my laptop, I ran superantispyware, and malware bytes...removed all files they suggested. Rebooted to get back to work and got the Windows 7 not genuine warning at bottom right. Re entered my key, got told it was not valid, Tried to run MGA Diagnostics and when my report came up I intended to past and ask for help and instead I got an error window when I hit copy

So I am stuck.

I am in the middle of a LARGE project and need answers if anyone has them.

I have been following directions in several threads here to fix the "Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine" error. Background: This is a licensed copy of Windows on my 1.5 year old Asus EB1503. This just popped up within the last 2 days (noticed it today).

Problems: Normal login: Very slow, hard to type or bring up applications (services.msc, cmd.exe, etc). These can take upward of 5 min. Explorer takes a very long time to come up. Safe Mode: Everything is back to normal performance wise.

CHKDSK c:/ r - Reports disk has no issues. Comes back very fast after reboot.

SFC SCANNOW and SFC /scannow /offbootdir=e:\ /offwindir=e:\windows both fail. The former stops at 32% of verification and reports: "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service". The Windows Modules Installer is set to MANUAL.

Attached is my CBS.txt file. Attachment 339819

Is my disk hosed?

A:Windows 7 Build 7601 Not Genuine - SFC Error

I ran it again, this time starting the Windows Module Installer service as well. This time I get a different error:

"Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation"

My computer was infected with the Windows 7 Internet Security 2012 rogue. Seems the main virus that impacted my system was Win32/Sireref.DA aka "Zero Access" trojan. I've run several malware removal programs and utilities...Combofix and Malwarebytes to name a few...which seem to have removed the infection. However, it has left my Windows 7 Home Premium Edition as being not genuine. The desktop background is black with "This copy of windows is not genuine" in the lower right corner. I also receive periodic notifications that I may be victim of counterfeit software. Any help with correcting this issue will be greatly appreciated.

I've run the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool. Posted below are the results...

Hey everyone,

I recently bought a Samsung 850 EVO SSD (500GB) to upgrade my 2 year-old machine with. I've tried to migrate Windows to the SSD ever since I installed, first by hand (messing with cloning and EasyBCD), but when that didn't work out, I bought a copy of "Paragon Migrate OS to SSD". This worked like a charm, and I could boot into my SSD. However, booting into Windows 7 on the SSD gives me the old familiar black background, and the pop-up "Windows 7 Home Premium could not be activated with the submitted product key" [paraphrased, as it's a translation]. I get the option to submit a different product key, and when I entered mine, it told me that "a problem has occured during activation" with the errorcode 0x00C4E003. Googling this error tells me that this code means the product key is already in use.

Running MDADiag gives me the following report:

A:Windows not genuine, error 0xC004F057 after migrating OS to SSD

From what I see so far.

1. Custom built computer, which to me means a after market retail motherboard.
2. You don't post what motherboard is in use.
3. This also indicated a retail motherboard. From your log.

OEM/SLP is only used on computers that come from the factory with a pre-installed
Windows 7 and can only be used on such system.

Please let us know exactly what motherboard is installed.

I've been having problems for awhile with my speaker audio emitting an intermittent loud buzzing noise and then the computer freezing for a brief moment. Mouse movement is also frozen during this period.

Then, today, the computer started freezing for small amounts of time separate from the buzzing before completely crashing. I'm not sure if these two problems are related but they both may be caused by graphics driver problems, which is a likely culprit. I updated the Nvidia driver yesterday, and my eventviewer shows the nvlddmkm error.

The short buzzing occurs when I listen to music around once a minute and increases in frequency when something more intensive is running such as [email protected]

After the BSOD, Windows began showing a message that my copy of Windows is not genuine. Also, it reverts my desktop background to a black screen.
I have already defragmented my hard drive and run memtest for 2 passes. My current PSU is also less than a year old.

Try re-entering the Key that you have from the disc or COA sticker (on the side or bottom of the machine, also check the battery compartment if it's a laptop) that the system builder provided.

I bought this computer about 3 years ago from a friend, but recently the hard drive gave up the ghost. I replaced it and reinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium (I had to use a friend's installation CD as I didn't have mine) and used the key I'd pulled from the previous hard drive (I had to use a program as the sticker is unreadable now). It installed and updated fine for about 1 1/2 to 2 months - until today when I was told my copy of Windows was not genuine and, when I tried to authenticate it by reentering the key, was given error code 0xc004f063.

A:Windows not genuine error 0xc004f063 after reinstallation on new HDD

Welcome bearrorist

The key code you probably pulled from the HD was the MFG universal key code. It will not work for a re-activation.

That is why the Key Code on the COA sticker is so important and valuable, therefore protected & saved as a hard copy document for the future when needed.

Hi There
First off I guess I should say that I am not very experienced with computers, hardware, software & terminology etc..so I'll thank you in advance for your patience.
I recently cloned my hard drive to a new bigger drive using Macrium Reflect & following the instructions given in this article - How to Upgrade Your Existing Hard Drive in Under an Hour. I don't think I followed the instructions to a tee as I didn't get the same result as they did in the article.
ie: I was not presented with the option to Maximize the size of the new hard drive in order to take advantage of the new disk size & I still haven't figured out how to do that.
When the cloning was complete I unplugged the old had drive and booted up the new hard drive but ran into some problem & needed to use the Recovery media to fix the booting process. Which it did but I was then immediately given the This Copy of Windows Is Not Genuine message.
I noticed that my hard drive now had the System Reserved partition as a separate drive (f) from the C drive. Whereas before it had not had a drive letter associated with it. So I removed the drive letter via Disk Management.
I tried to just go back to my old hard drive but there was a problem with that booting up now & I used the Recovery Media to repair it & when it booted up it also now gave me the This Copy of Windows Is Not Genuine (TCOWING). I also recall seeing (I don't remember exactly where now, when looking at the drives liste... Read more

Welcome to our forum YRobdogg

You will need to install a proper Windows 7 using the proper COA key to activate properly.

From your log.

You have a OEM/SLP key from a Dell computer on a computer with a MSI retail motherboard.
This makes this Windows 7 installation a counterfeit on this computer.

I really don't know what a [TCOWING] is.

You will also need a proper install and activation of Office.

Hi, So I wish to apologize for posting a similar issue, but i did try some of the solutions suggested on previous posts with no success. Sadly i am not very good with computers so it may be a problem on my end.
I am currently getting an error that my copy of Windows is not Genuine, when I have been running it for a little over a year now, but after an update is, I believe, when I first got the error. Please assist me with the thought that i have only basic understanding of computers. I can do a lot, i just don't understand tech terms.

A:Windows 7 Build 7601 Is Not Genuine Error

The installation is counterfeit - you have a machine built before the release of even Vista, let alone Windows 7, which claims to have had Win7 installed at the factory.
It's likely that an update removed the hack which was holding the install together and circumventing the Activation requirements.

For what version and edition of Windows is the machine licensed, according to the COA sticker on the case?

From what you say, it seems that you bought this machine 2nd-hand? after a year, it's almost certainly too late to claim a refund from the vendor - you may well have to either use the manufacturer's Recovery media to revert back to the original OS, or purchase a new license for Windows.
