This starts week #4 of fighting something that has has my computer in a network within itself with "root" claiming to be the Domain Controller and thus limiting my abilities as Admin. About 4 weeks back I got nailed with the W32.Virut.CF nasty and the problems haven't stopped. I've gone as far as changing modems, unplugging and resetting the router before each use, taking all computers except this off line, taking out the CMOS battery/ram//all cards/cpu/trying restore/trying the restore desks and wiping the drive all to no avail. If I delete anything it's restored within minutes, sometimes seconds. I resorted to doing a del *.* on C which left me with a few directories protected by root. I presume you have read this:http://www.symantec.com/connect/blogs/w32v...llateral-damageand tried the recommended way to clear the nasty but it isn't working. This sounds bad enough to justify taking all computers offline and doing a disk format and OS reinstall on each - big job but it may be your only way out. All of a sudden last week my computer stopped working, the first start up screen comes on and then the windows logo is suppposed to show up but doesnt. Instead the screen is black with the little white thing blinking and "A disk read error occured" comes up after a while. This has happened before but then it was just that the boot order in BIOS were wrong. I've checked that now.

I also realized i cant enter safe mode by pressing F8 because F8 only provides me with a list of devices i can boot from. So i tried to start using the Windows CD, but that doesnt work either. I figured out how to enter safe mode with the CD in, but that was also unsuccesful.

I moved to try and reinstall windows to fix the problem, but some file or catalog was damaged so i couldnt do that either. then i tried to repair it but the computer froze in the middle of the reparation.

I'm really stumped here, can't find anything on the internet that helps me, im fearing i have to get another HDD. I'd actually be fine fine with that if i knew WHAT caused this damn thing to happen.

I hope someone finnishes this wall of text =P
Thanks in advance.

After clocking my CPU from 8X to 12X in the BIOS setting, my computer would not boot up anymore. It does not beep or run a POST (power on self test).

Note: It is a 8-bit KT7 RAID Motherboard and 800mhz Duran processor.

How can I reset the BIOS setting??

Thanks in advance,
Charlton

A:Computer will not boot up anymore

Hold the insert key down while you power up, it sets abit's to default processor, then go in the bios and reset the processor speed.

In other words, hold down the insert key, push the power button on, and keep holding the key until you start to boot.

I recently had malware on my computer and lost my internet connection. I brought it to staples to have it repaired and it was supposed to take 24 hours but ended up taking almost two weeks. They said it was because after deleting all the malware and viruses it damaged windows and they had to fix it. They also said my internet was blocked and they had never seen that happen before. I just got it back and the internet works but freezes and refreshes itself atleast once every ten minutes, sometimes so often I can’t even use it. I also am having trouble opening many programs on my computer such as itunes, picasa, and photoshop plus it wont allow me to install norton 360. I got itunes to open and even added a new song and synced my ipod yesterday but today it won’t open again. Photoshop will upload pictures but won’t allow me to edit them and picasa will only stay open for about 2 seconds. When I try to open this programs I often get this error message:
Windows - no disk Exception Processing Message c0000013 Parameters 75b6bf9c 4 75b6bf9
I have tried chkdisk but it didn’t find anything, I also tried the scannow command prompt but it told me I needed to insert my windows xp professional disk which I cannot find anywhere. I’ve also tried reinstalling all of these programs and disabling certain programs at start up in msconfig but none of these things have helped at all. The power to my house went off. I fixed it and turned on my computer again, and the power went off multiple times after that in succession. After the last time my computer no longer boots Windows. I have attempted to start normally (the Windows logo appears and then freezes). I have attempted to repair Windows (it loads Windows files and freezes in a stasis of loading). I have attempted to open in safemode but the drivers stop loading at classpnp.sys. I've even gone into the bios and loaded optimized defaults but still nothing. I'm guessing it's the motherboard? After attempting to repair the usb's lose power so I'm not sure if that would indicate anything. The only thing I haven't tried yet is installing a fresh version of Windows but I don't know where I put my disk and I have a lot of valuable files that I wouldn't be able to transfer at the moment.

Hi,

It is getting very hard to use internet since any page I open, a lot of pup up's appears.

I regularly use Chrome, I tried with Explorer, but I have the same problem.

It appears to me that the problem started couple of days ago when I installed a software to recognize mac formatted external hard drives, but instead it installed some other program named EZDowloader. I uninstalled it, but the problem persists.

Ok so this is what happened...

yesterday I came back home to see my computer turned off, I hadn't turned it off. So I boot it, it starts and then stops. The fans start up and the drive also but then complete shut down. For it to restart I had to cut the power and replug. Then it did the same little boot and stop. It has been doing that since I switched from a 40HD to a 200HD, does that take more power since I've only encountered this problem since my HD switch. Anyways I went and took my other comp, this one, and loaded my 400w PSU in it at first it would work but I changed the cable to the HD and it loaded fully. So I closed it and put the HD in place and went to bed. This morning it won't even START with either PSU not even the fans. My mobo green light for power standby is on but it wont turn on. Is it my Mobo or only my Power switch... and should I get a 400w psu if I run

A7N8X-X
Athlon xp 2600+ Barthon
Sapphire Radeon 9200 or something low...
768 pc3200 memory
200g HD
Printer/Scanner/Mouse off USB ports
1 case fan 1 heat sink.

So before I go and buy a new A7N8X-X board and 400+ PSU I wanted some advice

Thanks.

A:My Computer Won'T Turn On Anymore...

well, first of all, change back the old hd to see if the problem is still there. Also, you should try the new 200gig on another computer to see if that's the problem. AHave you try to change the ide cable.

HD usually consumes same amount of power but it's possible that your 200gig consumes more power than the 40gig. Youc an test it buy disconnect everything that's not needed and just connect the cpu, mobo, memory, gfx card, and hd and see if that works. if that works but when you add more pci stuff, then you know that you need a new psu.

Well, I guess I should have seen it coming, but now, it's finally happened. My computer won't start. First, I'll start of with a bit of history about it. It was bought in Holland (not by me) so I'm using an adapter to work it. It's a packard bell Imedia 6225 AIO (I think) 360 Gig, running windows 7. At first, it was fine, it was really quiet. However, last summer, it was really hot, and it started turning off at random times and it became really loud, to the point where it sounded more like a hoover than a computer. I moved it from under my desk to a more breezy area. After the heatwave had passed, the problems persisted. It would turn off seemingly randomly, but I soon realised it only turned off when I ran too much at the same time. (it was fine with it before the summer though). I didnt look too much into it because it was bearable. However, the night before it died, it was making strange grinding/stalling noises. From what i've researched, it seems to be a power supply problem. If it is, is it fixable at home? If I have to buy a new one, how do I know if it will be appropriate for my computer? Thank you very much for any help you can offer. I appreciate it.

P.S. I have opened it up and cleaned it since it died. It was a little dusty inside. It still hasn't been working, but it eliminates a dust problem.

I have a problem somewhat similar to ferero's

here is my problem:

I was playing tabula rasa and wasn't getting exactly the performance I was expecting with my ati 1900xtx with overheats and whatnot and was told that maybe I should clean all my fans... everything was full of dust so I cleaned it all which included removing my video card and cleaning the dust of every part of it that I could and then I put it back. Once I finished I tried to start the computer but all that happened was that the video card fan goes really loud and thats pretty much all the happens, the computer just sits there... it's turned on and all the fans are working, but nothing shows up on the screen and the video card/video card's fan goes really loud and just stays that way...now I have no idea what I mightv'e done when I cleaned the dust but I am guessing I somehow broke something or unplugged something somewhere. I am not that good with computer hardware and therefore have no idea what could be the problem.

Some help would really be appreciated...

Hi plzen

To rule out viruses, run an online Anti-Virus scan from at least one and preferably 2 of the following sites
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/
http://security.symantec.com/default.asp?
http://www.ravantivirus.com/scan/
Allow them to clean/delete any spyware/malware or viruses/trojans they may find.
Make a note of any files flagged that were unable to be cleaned or deleted.

Download or verify you have the most recent versions of:
Ad-Aware SE 1.05
Spybot-S&D (ver. 1.3) and

Install Ad-Aware SE and Spybot-S&D and check each of them in turn for updates.

For Ad-Aware SE click on Full System Scan and deselect Search for negligible risk entries.
Let Ad-Aware SE remove what it finds.
Run Spybot-S&D and have it fix what it finds marked in Red.

After running your online virus scans and running Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S&D,
close all programs and reboot to complete the removal process.

Let us know what you find and if the problem still persists.

Hi,

I was able to access a PC which is connected to my current laptop on LAN in "full mode", it means I could go to C:\ disk there by entering \\192.168.1.3\C$

But some day ago, I reinstalled that PC and now can't access it's disk C:\ like that. When I do so, a dialog appears to ask password for a fixed user: Guest. (the user box is disable, can't change). So no password is accepted.

And then I login to that PC, run command gpedit.msc, [Computer Configuration] -> [Windows Settings] -> [Security Settings] -> [Local Policies] -> [Security Options], edit item "Network access: Sharing and security model for local accounts" to "Classic - local users authenticate as themselves". This time, a dialog with user name and password editable. But no matches at all.

What's wrong with that sharing? Please tell me how to access that PC like before?

Thanks in advance!

A:Do I need anymore protection on my computer?

1) Windows Defender is a complete waste of resources. I suggest you disable it (by disabling the Windows Defender Service)

2) Ccleaner has nothing to do with protecting your system. I'm not sure why so many folks include it when listing their "protection scheme", but they do.

3) I also suggest SpywareBlaster (free) and you might want to look at WinPatrol

4) You left out the most important part of protecting your system: common sense (do not download anything unless you know what it is, do not click on links in emails unless you are 100% certain you know what they are and trust them, do not visit questionable sites, etc).

All of a sudden I had a blue text-screen avoiding a start-up, but now no start at all anymore. A tiny red LED shows on the main-board (an ASUS P8P67) and goes off after a couple of seconds and the chip-ventilator stops. The (empty) CD-drive makes a starting-noice and stops, the screen-light flickrs only. This continues untill I switch-off the computer entirely with the main-switch.

I know I just posted this, but something is being weird with it so here it is again haha

My friend sent me this link saying; "This looks just like you! :S" then a link. The idiot that I am, I clicked on it. Yes gave my computer the virus. Not knowing that I got the virus and in a hurry, I shut down my computer and left. Now my computer will not turn on. It will start loading then it says "Autocheck not found... Skipping Autochck" Then goes into a blue screen saying a fatal system failure has occurred and it has shut down my computer. Whenever I try to start my computer into safe mode or anything it does the same thing.
If I could just get it to log on I will run a virus scan and restore my computer and crap but I can't even get it to that point right now.
Please, I am so stressed out about this and I need help asap. Please if anyone can help please do.

Hello readers,

I am experiencing a terrible problem: my computer does not start anymore.

Last week Superantispyware discovered something called Rootkit.Agent/Gen-TDSS in a file windows\system32\drivers\nyeaf.sys. AVG Free 8.5 and Malwarebytes did not report anything. The repair actions of SuperAntiSpyware were not succesful because afterwards it kept reporting the same thing.

Searching the internet running Combofix seemed a good thing to do. However when I started it, Combofix reported that it could not run while AVG Free 8.5 was installed and I was advised to uninstall it. So I did. However uninstalling AVG in a normal way did not work. So I visited the AVG forum (http://forums.avg.com/nl-nl/avg-free-forum?sec=thread&act=show&id=673) and found a tool that should help me (http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/avg_arm_sup_____.dir/avgremover.exe (32-bit versie)).

The tool warned that it would restart the computer in the process of uninstalling AVG. So it did. However after the computer was stopped it was not automatically restarted. It halted on a black screen and did not do anything anymore. When I try to restart by hand, I see the blue HP startup screen, after that one cursor blink and after that the screen remains black. Starting in safe mode does not work either. After loading windows\system32\drivers\isapnp.sys the loading stops and nothing happens. When selecting "the last good configuration", the screen becomes black ... Read more

I have been having problems with my computer since Christmas Day. I am part of Neopets and think I was infected with a trojan from someone who dislikes Neopets. This thing keeps me from going to that website. It also has spread to other people on my network as well as just friends and family. Also my computer has been running slow and shutting down whenever it feels like it.

I have ran spybot, ad-aware, avg, pestpatrol, Trend Micro anti-spyware, and Hijack-This. None of them have removed the problem. I have been running Personal Inspector too and it dosen't seem to be showing anything. Someone told me it was called Kraimer but I did what they said and there is nothing called Kraimer in my computer. It is starting to effect other programs now and really need it gone before it effects my college classes.

Anyway, to remove it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much,
Amber

Im running ME and have never had a problem like this before.
My wireless internet stopped connecting a few days ago.
My ISP techs came out and found the radio went bad, and replaced it.
after they left both this computer (ME) and the other (XP) still didnt work.
The XP machine works now if I plug it in direct to the radio. but this (ME) machine still does not. I'm on a dialup account now(slow) trying to trouble shoot.
I am clear of viruses now, but did have 19 infected files according to AVG.
I removed and reinstalled my network drivers after clearing the virus.
After removing the virus, I cant share files with the XP computer.
I get an error message that I cant log onto the network for "a number of reasons" The troubleshooter in "Help" directs me to rename the computer and restart but that doesnt help.
In my last conversation with my ISP, they said I may have to reload ME because of a "Protocal stack problem with ME".
so short of reloading my OS, I wonder if anyone has any ideas?
Thanks
Todd

Hi all,

Ok, here goes:
We have an eMachines T2824 desktop, pretty much a run of the mill basic desktop. The other day, it just would not power up any more. I bought a new power supply ( a 580 watt upgrade from the stock 250w it came with), and still no luck. When the power is turned on, a green led on the motherboard near the power supply turns on and stays on until a few seconds after the power is turned off. When the power is on, NOTHING happens... no fans, no beep, no HD activation, nothing.

I removed the on/off swich from the front of the case and hooked up a mult meter/volt meter to it to see if that works. The meter showed that the switch would only stay on for a second, then nothing again. I'm not sure if that's normal or not.

Any ideas?

Thanks

good luck!

First I want to say that this is not a computer problem, this is the USB's problem. I've tried it under every computer I could and it just didn't recognize it anymore. This is was all of a sudden really.

Can anyone give me instructions on what to do?

I'm willing to post whatever test I need

A:USB not recognized by any computer anymore

If no computer recognises it, then the USB drive is probably dead. Such things do happen.

However, the drive might also be corrupted. To check that, type "disk management" into the search window under start menu. Click on "create or format..." If the drive shows up at all, then the drive is not dead.

To fix the file system, use Test Disk.

Hi,

I just had a quick question.

ok, so when I try to download anything to my computer, I get this message:

C:\Users\Craft\App Data\Local\Temp

and it also says that it could not be saved because you (me) cannot change the contents. (I am the admin on my computer, so why can't change it?)

So what do I do?

(P.S.) I also want to know what program can permanently get rid of programs after I already uninstalled them, because they seem to be leaving a trail behind on my computer and I think that is what is causing this message. Also, If you can tell me what program there is for windows vista home premium SP2 64-bit please.

Thanks,

~David~

A:I can't seem to download anymore to my computer

Hello David,

It may be a permission issue. See if you can after taking ownership of the C:\Users\Craft\App Data\Local\Temp folder.

If not, then as a test, create a new administrator account to see if you can while logged on to it.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I have a problem with my laptop. No programs load up anymore...eg, internet, media player etc. A friend suggested that I do a system restore but even that doesnt load up-it just says file error. I am pretty clueless about computers, so dont have a clue what to do. When I turn it on again, it often doesnt actually load too, it just goes to a blac screen! Do you think its a virus or is there something I can do??
Thanks so much for any help you can give me!!

A:Help!!Nothing loads on my computer anymore!!

When you turn on the computer and it is going through power on self test, is the display black too? If it is then your display backlight or inverter may be bad. Sometimes if you hold the computer at the right angle and under the right lighting conditions, you can see the display but will be very dark. In this scenario there is no chance it could be a virus because Windows hasn't loaded yet.

Okay so here's the rundown of events that lead to my computer not being able to power on:

1) I thought my video card was bricked (I have an nVidia GTX460) I was unable to get a signal on my monitor. I RMA'd the old card and got the new one, but still had problems.

I finally got a signal on my monitor - Now my OS (Windows Vista 64 bit) is corrupted. Windows won't load and it automatically takes me to the startup repair screen. It asks me to hit F1 to continue, but it just loops back to the same screen.

2) I went into the BIOS and changed the boot sequence to my CD/DVD drive and used my repair disk, but once again no joy! Windows would not reinstall correctly.

3) I reseated the video card into a different PCI slot, then reseated my RAM (I have 9 gigs) After reseating the RAM, my computer won't turn on at all. When I hit the power button, you can vaguely here the fan power up, but then nothing.

I have a very good 850W PSU i bought about 7 months ago. So now I'm wondering...is my PSU shot, my HDD corrupted, or my motherboard blown. I have not been able to test my PC with another PSU yet. I just find it weird that reseating my RAM would make my computer die. I've tried putting in 1 stick at a time, but still no luck.

Should i try resetting the CMOS? I work in IT, but mainly help desk stuff, but i know my way around a computer. Can anyone chime in with some advice or actions I can take to isolate this problem?

I'm at my wits end with this c... Read more

OK, the very first thing you need to do is post your exact system specs; ie make and model of mb, exact ram you have installed, what pw supply you have installed, etc, etc.

My first thought is to swap in a known good pw supply for testing. Note known good does not mean new; it means a pw supply pulled from a working system that you know works.

Have you done an out of case build with just the mb, monitor, ram, pw supply, and video card connected? If not, then do so. If it posts with just those parts connected, then start connected devices one at a time and pw ON to see what is stopping post.

For some reason, when I click on My Computer, and try to access my C Drive, it's asking me "What program do you want to use to open this file?" It just started happening all of a sudden. I tried rebooting, but it didn't fix the problem. I can still access the C drive if I open up a program or something, and choose to open a file, it will open up the C drive fine. This only happens when I go to My Computer and try to double click the C drive. I think this picture will be a little more understanding to what I am saying:

Sorry if this was posted in the wrong section. I know there's a forum for harddrives, but I kinda feel like this is more of a Windows problem than the harddrive.

Hi Everyone!

I am a newbie at this board....and I am not all that computer literate. I am not even sure if I posted this in the right section!! So forgive any newbie-type mistakes, lol

So here is my problem:

I have an old irock 500 - and it worked fine for a year....now of all a sudden, when I connect it to the computer via the USB, it does not recognize that there are songs on it...and therefore it cannot let me remove them! And at the top is just reads "no card". I have the built in irock memory plus a memory card.

However, when I try to ADD more songs, it tells me it is full (which is true)..but it doesn't list the songs at the left there (edit: uhm yeah, apparently I don't know left from right...the songs on the irock are usually listed at the right..and for me it's empty when there ARE songs on there). I reinstalled Audio Manager and that didn't fix it. I downloaded updated irock drivers and unzipped them and that didn't seem to work...although maybe I didn't do it right? Not sure. I get the same result for the Audio Manager and WIndows Media player.

I did a check to see if the USB port is working fine and the computer seems to think so. The computer won't let me format the irock either. I emailed irock tech support, but they just sent me a bunch of links to their support webpages I had already looked at and tried.

I think the problem *might* have started around the time I installed software for a digital camera...but I... Read more

Hello All,
I would be greatful for any advice you can offer; here are the specs on the new computer I just put together:

ASARock 939Dual-SATA2 MB
AMD Athlon64 3500+ CPU
WesterDigital 7200 WD800JD 80Gb HDD
Aspire ATX-AS520W PSU
NEC ND-3550A Drive
1Gig Corsair DDR-400 Ram

I got WinXp on there, was installing some software, and weird things kept happening. I kept getting error reports, of the variety that says that the program must be shut down and asks if I want to send an error report to the vendor. This was happening a lot, especially with installation programs that worked on my other computer just days before.
Also, I kept getting the Blue Screen of Death telling me that I may have a software or hardware problem, after which the computer would simply reboot, or lock up completely.

At this point, the computer has ceased to function entirely. It refuses to boot and I get no POST beep, and I can't enter the BIOS. All the hardware appears to be working and my cooling fans are all functioning, so I don't think this is an overheat, though who knows. I've checked all the connections and they are fine. I just want to know what could have caused me to go from running smoothly on day 1 to dead on day 3.

Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks.

Hey everyone,

I've got this problem that's driving me mad and I can't seem to figure it out.

I have an Intel P4 3.0ghz on a Intel D865GLC motherboard.
It's about a year and half old and a couple of weeks ago I started noticing problems with booting and it seemed to be power related.

It won't start up anymore. The green light inside goes on, so it does have power, then when I push the power button, there are 2 ways it responds. 1) Either the green powerlight goes on and stays on and the cpu fan wil rotate once or twice and then stops, it won't do anything else. 2) nothing happens at all, not even the green light goes on. It alternates between these two situations.

It seems like it gets a short boost of power and then stops.
I had the power supply checked and it was fine and I just replaced the fan and the power cable as well, so that's not it. The processor seems fine, no bend pins or burns.

This is really frustrating me and I would really appreciate it if anyone has any input. I could bring it in, but these people charge 70 bucks just to look at the thing.

A:Computer doesn't boot anymore

In response 1 does the green powerlight stay on after the cpu fan stops.

For the past few weeks I haven't been able to logon to my computer because the welcome screen doesn't appear anymore. It boots up as usual then I get this message about Windows not starting up properly because it never finishes loading. After I choose one of the several options it starts up, but instead I get a blank screen with only the mouse visible. Even if I boot it up in safe mode, last good configurations, or etc it still won't show the welcome screen. I'm just stuck at the booting process which I don't know what to do with anymore. The last thing I did before this happened was that I was messing around with "msconfig" after watching this video about freeing up resources by using that. I guess I should've watched it a little more carefully. I must've turned off something in the StartUp tab that I shouldn't have that may have caused this problem. I'm using a Gateway Windows XP Media Center Edition btw so maybe I wasn't suppose to do that at all, but I don't know since I'm not too smart about computers. I've asked help from the guy who made that video and he's done his best to help and I'm left with either repairing my computer with the Windows cd, or sending it in to someone who can fix it for me.

Before I do that I'd like to get help from another person once again and see what's wrong. If anyone would help me out here I'd really appreciate it. Another thing I did as well before this happ... Read more

I don't know what happened, but one day when I opened My Computer, all of the icons in there were a jumbled mess. There was no order, no grouping. When I right clicked and went to Arrange Icons By->Show in Groups, it sort of fixed the issue. Except, I don't have any headings for the groups. The headings "Files Stored on This Computer," "Hard Drives," and "Devices with Removable Storage" are gone. All of the drives, removable media and hard drive alike, are at the top of the screen. Shared Documents and Administrator's Documents are at the bottom under a heading of "Unspecified." I have attached a jpg to show you what I mean. Does anybody out there know how to get the proper group headings back for the My Computer screen? Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Aloha everyone! I use Windows XP Pro w/ Service Pack 2 on my Thinkpad Z60m. My problem is -> I can no longer add languages to my computer to type in different languages.

1. When I go to the control panel, I click on "Regional and Language Options", next I click on the "Languages" tab and under "Text services and input languages" I click "Details". After I click details this is the exact error message that pops up:

"An exception occurred while trying to run "shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL input.dll"

2. As you may or may not know, there is an alternate way of accessing the "Details" under the "Text services and input languages" on the "Languages" tab. All you do is right-click on the language bar and left-click on settings. I also tried this method but this time I received a DIFFERENT message. It reads:

"An exception occurred while trying to run "shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\input.dll"

I am confused. What is going on here?? Help Please!!

At least 2 old games gothic 1 and gothic 2 ( raven ). Both played well on my winXP 64-bit. I reinstalled them both. Gothic 1 has no images in intro, and the sound is very spotty. Gothic 2 also has no intro images and even stopped in the middle of intro.

It is the same computer, except some more games. The computer is virtually not connected to internet except when I need a patch. What could be the reason?

one year old gaming computer
winXP pro 64-bit service pack 2
AMD phenom II X4 955
3.21 ghz 8 gig RAM
radeon HD 4870 X2 2gig video RAM
BTW, the DVDs come from " gothic universal " which includes 3 DVDs ( No1 is gothic 1, No2 is gothic 2 and No3 is gothic 3 ). No3 which is gothic 3 works fine so I have no reason to think that the other two DVDs do not work because they are dusty or scratched. Most other games played well including both old and recent games.

So I built my computer about two years ago and it has worked amazingly well and I love it. I was loading up a new video game I got when I noticed part of the +4 connector of the 20+4 to the motherboard wasn't connected. Since my computer has quick access on the side, I opened it up while running and plugged it im(Don't ask why I was stupid enough to do it with the computer on). Anyways, not sure why but as I plugged it in, the power went out(I think I plugged it in sideways and fixed it once power was off.) so I restarted the computer once I made sure it was plugged in properly. Now, the computer says their is no internet. I was using an ethernet cord that connects to a powerline connection that travels downstairs to the router. I checked the cord/powerline with my laptop(what I'm using now) and it works perfectly(shut off wifi of course). Anyways, I decided that it was time for a reformat anyways so I reformated my computer and thought that maybe some Windows file was corrupt and this would fix the problem. Low and behold, the internet still does not work. I do not have a NIC but I have two ports on my motherboard for ethernets to connect to. The main one I use has a light that is flashing lots of green when it is working properly but now just sits at a solid orange. I thought that maybe I had damaged something on the board when I plugged in the +4 but everything else works(mouse, keyboard, all usbs next to the ethernet ports). Does anyone have any suggestions... Hi. Im not really good with computers to start off with, just so you know. I tried erasing a bunch of files that my spyware program said were malicious recently. Then I added another spyware program to catch what the first was missing. I did all of this because I could not get my computer back into standby. It just stopped working out of the blue and I read on some tech forum that it could be from a virus. Finally I read a thread telling me to go into the power options, then click on a different option such as hibernate, or do nothing, then click apply, and save. After doing this it said go back into power options and reselect standby-apply-save and it should work. Well it did... For a few days. Now it has gone back to not going into standby and I have to shut the tower off every time I leave the house. I dont know what could have caused it this time, if it was from before still, or if my husband did something he shouldnt have or what. I tried to to the steps above that helped the first time but it isnt helping on bit this time. Im trying so hard to keep this computer working well as Im not so great with computers and we cant afford someone to fix it. I could really use the help. If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them. If you could dumb it down to the most basic step by step process I would be so very grateful!!!! Thanks!

Could you pls advise?

I have a Dell Vostro all-in-one PC, with Win Vista home basic installed. For the last 3 years, it has been running normally so far.

Today, just after I removed the external hard drive, suddenly the computer switched off. I tried to turn it on but there is no electricity indication. Nothing happened.

I checked the electricity plug, but it seemed ok as the lamp is on as usual.

Is there a virus that can do this? FYI, I have the Kaspersky internet security installed.

I press "Finish" and then it just restarts again showing the logo of the motherboard on screen and then goes back into Startup Repair again.

I called the shop where I bought it and they said it is possible I was loading too much software on too quickly. It is a computer I use for business so I wasn't loading any rubbish on and I didn't install that much - Office suite, antivirus, modem software, printer driver.

Is this something that could have cause it or are they just putting the blame on me? Also, if anyone knows what this problem is any help would be appreciated.

The microphone works perfectly but I can't get any video either on lifecam(says no camera connected)or on skype/oovoo(stuck in loading camera-blank screen).
i plugged it in my dad's computer and its working perfectly so its not the camera's problem.
Device manager etc says everything is working perfectly.
I can actually get video from the camera on Silverlight Video tab.,but its not working anywhere else.
I plugged in my dad's camera, exactly same problem.Tried everything in the knowledge base, still same issues.Even ran sfc /scannow.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated as I don't know why a non-cheap camera is suddenly not working anymore, and NOR any other camera I plug in.

I use my computer as my DVD player and recently I had just finished watching a movie and put another one in and now it will not run smoothly, both video and audio. It isn't the DVD because I have tried several of the ones I have and now none of them run smoothly. It is not the program because I have tried using 2 different programs to play them with no luck (windows media and hp dvd player). I got my computer for Christmas so it is very new and has lots of space on it still. It will play audio CD's with no problem! Help me please. Is it possible the reader is dirty or has been displaced a tad? If so how can i fix that? I use my computer a lot to watch DVD's so I'm hurting here! It has been suggested by me from friends that maybe it is a trojan or virus or maybe I would have to reinstall the driver but I do not know how to do that.

A:Solved: Why won't my computer play DVD's anymore?

ok, problem gone, i restored my computer back to a day when i had no problems and now its gone! woo! If someone could explain any possible reasons as to why this happened and why what i did helped, that would be greatly appreciated though

The problem: All of a sudden I was typing along and then I just...wasn't. Like the laptop stopped showing what I was typing, but it still kept doing the little chime (or ding) sounds every time I'd press a key. I plugged in my back-up keyboard, and it did the same thing, still didn't show up what I was typing on the monitor but it would make the sound every time I press a key. The touchpad mouse built into the laptop still works.
I tried restarting my computer, and then it worked normally for a few minutes, and then stopped again. When it started up this time, it let me log in, but then it wouldn't let me enter any more info. I decided to restore my computer (the kind of restore where it keeps my file, but removes apps and resets settings to default.) After the restore it just doesn't accept what I'm typing at all, so I can't even log in with my password or do much of anything anymore, but it still does the chime when I try to type.

My wireless keyboard does the same thing (chime sound when keys are pressed, but nothing I type shows up on the monitor), but the very same wireless keyboard works on my other laptop, which is what I'm typing to you on now. So, we know that the keyboard works, and that the laptop in question is receiving the info I'm entering, BUT it's just not showing it for some reason. Please help!

The result: I just get stuck at the screen with my name and email address and a box for me to enter my passwor... Read more

I accidentally dropped my computer while moving it the other day (it was about a foot off the ground). The computer boots and shows POST, but then I get a blank screen; no small cursor, no error message, nothing. I didn't see any cracks when I inspected the board, and my system doesn't sound any different when turned on. I'm not sure what might be wrong, but I'm afraid I damaged one or both of my hard drives.

Reading in the forums, I found a solution of trying to boot from a floppy to recover the data or swap the master and slave drives, although because of what happened I'm not sure either will work. Does anyone have any other suggestions I could try to recover my data?

Hello,
I just upgraded my desktop to Windows 8 from Windows 7 using digital download. Everything was running smoothly as I was installing apps and drivers. My graphics driver required a reset after installing, and now when I try to boot up my computer, after the bios and initial windows logo happen, the screen goes dark and the computer stalls. After a while it'll give me 4 beeps. I tried the automatic repair, which seems to be the only thing I can do since I can't boot to the start menu, but the result is the same. I used digital so I have no media to boot from, is there anything I can do to fix this?

A:I can't boot my computer anymore after upgrade.

Hi, start in safe mode then locate the driver installation file for your video card and run it again, this should fix it.

I've spent the last 3 days scrawling the net trying to figure this out. I've uninstalled and re-plugged the drive in, replaced a USB system file, and tried it on multiple machines, but nothing works!

BACKGROUND:

I'm running Windows XP on my laptop. I also have a Mac running OS 10.7, and I've got access to a third PC also running Windows XP.

I have a 1 TB external Seagate HD which is about 6 months old.

Originally, i reformatted it to work on both my Mac and PC. It did. I saved a bunch of pictures to it for a project I'm working on. Fine, I could access them on both the Mac and the PC. I saved some more files onto it from the PC, still could access them on both. I haven't used it in 2 months or so.

THE PROBLEM:

When I plug it into the PC, I get the sound that indicates that it recognizes a USB device, but when I go to My Computer, the drive doesn't show up. If I go to the little safe eject icon, it pulls up the USB mass storage device. If I go to My Computer - Manage - Device Manager - Disk Drive, it shows the Seagate Fa GoFlex Desk USB Device. I've tried uninstalling it, then plugging the drive back in. The computer finds it, installs it, says it's ready for use, but it still doesn't show up.

If I go to Disk management, it only shows the two partitions of my laptop's HD, not the external.

I tried plugging it into my Mac and not get an error message saying that I've plugged in a disk the Mac can't read.

A:Computer won't recognize external HD anymore

Chances are that the files are lost. Files that are not backed up are files with a short lifetime. External hard drives are the very worst place to store important documents since loss from them is almost probable.

The drive may have gotten knocked or jolted. They are very delicate. If there is any hope at all of recovering files, the drive will first need to be removed from the case and connected to a computer directly so that the enclosure's electronics is removed from the access process.

Recovery software can be tried, if the drive is not too damaged.

If the files still cannot be accessed, or the drive has mechanical problems, it can cost several $1000 to have them recovered by a professional lab.

It gave me tons of BSOD even to make this thread.

I can't stand it anymore, since when I've installed Windows 8 Pro x64 from Windows 7 Ultimate x64 I'm getting this. Made already tons of refresh, system restores and clean formats, nothing helps. I'm getting BSOD all the time, I can't use the computer for over 1 minute anymore (when I actually get to pass the login information, on 5% of the tries.)

Please, somebody help me, this is driving me crazy.

A:BSOD all the time, can't even use the computer anymore

The WER section of MSINFO32 shows a BSOD due to klflt.sys - likely a component of your Kaspersky Security.
Please:
- download a free antivirus for testing purposes: Free AntiVirus
- uninstall the Kaspersky from your system (may have to try this in Safe Mode)
- install the free antivirus, update it, and immediately scan your system for malware.

Remove the Razer device and uninstall it's software (it's drivers date from 2007 and are known to cause BSOD's in Win7 systems). Use a regular mouse until we've stopped the BSOD's - then download the latest, Win8 compatible drivers from the Razer website.

Install the latest version of the Asus ATK0110 ACPI Utility driver for your system/mobo. Your current version dates from 2005 and is known to cause BSOD's in some systems.

BIOS dates from 2009, you might wish to see if there are any updates that will apply to the memory in your system (CPU, video, RAM, mobo/chipset, etc). Flashing the RAM is easy, but very unforgiving. Don't do this unless you're sure that you need it - and then follow the directions EXACTLY. Failure to do so could turn your motherboard into a doorstop (yes, done incorrectly it can damage the mobo).

If these things don't stop the problems, please run these free diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manuall... Read more

Hi everyone,A few days ago, I suddenly couldn't update AVG anymore. It always gives me an error, telling me the connection with the server failed. I also noticed that I can't connect Limewire (P2P program) anymore and opening movie streams in Windows Media Player doesn't work anymore either.I searched some forums for a solution and I found someone with a similar problem, who also told he couldn't execute the "cmd" and "regedit" commands anymore. I tried it on my own computer and I can't run those things anymore either. When I try executing them, the explorer goes all weird and shuffles the program bars on the task bar.I've manually downloaded the latest updates for AVG, installed them and did a full scan, that didn't find a thing. I also ran AdAware, which said I had some malware, which I removed with it. Then I also ran Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, which found some more malware, so I removed it, rebooted my pc, but the problems still exist...I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem, because it's really anoying...Here's my HijackThis log:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 20:37:26, on 11/05/2009Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16827)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\At... Hi, last week when I booted up my computer, I saw the Wifi signal with the spinning circle in the bottom of the screen (the one you see when the Wifi is trying to connect to the internet). This took longer than it does normally, and eventually, it turned into the sign that there is no cable connected. After trying some things, it turned out it was not able to detect the wireless adapter, and therefore wanted a cable. I rebooted my pc, and the problem was fixed. This process repeated itself several times, but now it does not detect the wifi adapter (even though it does try to connect to wireless internet in the first place) at all anymore.

I have tried replacing the wifi adapter with another one, but the problem is exactly the same. Does someone know how to fix this? If you require any additional information from me, please do not hesitate to ask me, for I really want to solve this problem...

Have you tried all USB ports/PCI slots?

I tried to hook up an old printer together with a scanner on my computer.
(the printer and scanner are connected to eachother, and then go with one
plug into the computer)

The scanner had been previously on the computer, installed and working fine
and everything.

Now when I turn my computer on, you hear it starting up, but then just
pauses, the screen stays black, the light blinking green.
I can't shut the computer off, I need to unplug the whole thing.
Resetting the computer is possible but results in the same thing.

I've unplugged the scanner/printer again, but it still does the same thing.

Unplugging the monitor doesnt change anything either.

I recently installed a new Nvidia graphics card on my computer.
The old graphics card which is on the motherboard had to be disabled in the
bios in order for it to work.

Does anyone know what might have happened and how to solve it?

Thanks a lot

I have a Compaq Presario V6000 with Vista Business installed on it. My computer was working ok until this weekend when it decided to become as slow as Christmas. I've opened the resource manager to find that the CPU is running at 100%. I know next to nothing when it comes to computers. I have a couple of antivirus tools on my system, Spybot, AVG, Sophos, and Microsoft Security Essentials. I also have Malwarebytes. I will run a couple of these applications maybe once a week or two. Occasionally something is found and then eradicated. I don't know if that has any influence on the poor performance now, but I'm ready to chuck this thing out the window. I also have to use my desktop to type since I can't use certain keys on my laptop anymore as well. Any advice would be appreciated.

A:Barely able to function on my computer anymore because it's so slow.

Hello -
Please uninstall all but one Antivirus program, as this may be part of your problem. Malwarebytes can stay.
If you require help with correct full removal of any of these programs, please ask for full directions.
This is just some ideas to start with.
With the keyboard, have you ever tested another keyboard, since these do wear out and the keys can become stickey. What is the exact problem with the keyboard (sticking or wrong letters etc)
A new (replacement) one is reasonably cheap, if another one works OK -

Thank You -

Hello, this is my first post on these forums, but I've gotten a lot of help here before from reading other threads. I'm now stuck with a weird issue that I can't figure out myself.

I was moving my stationary win7 computer between appartments today, as I do a lot. When i plugged it in at the new place, my usb headset and usb mouse were not working. They lit up, and the computer recognized them, but would not install any driver (immediately said that windows could not install the drivers), so I couldn't use my mouse or headset. Windows still thought that the headset was working, since the green bars were moving while i tried to play sound, and I could still change the volume through the headset. The only thing that was working as before was my Logitech G15 keyboard. I use a Logitech G35 headset and mx518 mouse, but the Logitech driver software would not recognize those two anymore either. I tried uninstalling the software, but it did not help. They were still not working at all. Reinstalling the software didn't help either. I tried deleting the USB-hub from device manager and rebooting, but no luck. I tried unplugging the computer for a while, but that did nothing either.

The only way I get my headset and mouse to work now is by plugging them both into my keyboard, which has 2 USB ports. Note that the keyboard still works just fine in all the motherboard's USB-ports, so the ports should not be faulty. I really don't understand what the problem is. I also tried making a r... Hope someone can help! I did have my operating system set up on "Classic" setting to resemble Windows XP and when it was set that way anytime I slid the memory card from my camera in it would pop up the pictures in a new folder in my already existing software I store pictures in. All I needed to do from there were to highlight and drag them into another folder and delete the pictures out of the folder they popped up in...thus emptying the memory card from my camera. Since I have switched the look back to Vista appearance (Vista Home Premium) now I have to go thru Start, Computer, and then click on the drive to open the pictures on the memory card. I also have to manually open my picture editing software manually and drag the pics from the temp folder to my regularly used software to move the pictures. What changed just by changing the appearance of the operating system and how do I get it back without changing the whole appearance back to the "classic" look? Thx.

Hi,

I hope someone can help me. For a few weeks now I have been unable to do any Windows XP updates. Normally the updates download automatically and I say yes to install them. But a few weeks ago the updates wouldnt install and I keep getting a Windows message saying it is unable to install the updates. I did get one of the updates to install by clicking on the Advanced option and selecting and trying to install the updates one by one instead of all at once. But there are at least 6 updates that wont install.

Also, since last night my computer has been running VERY slowly. I downloaded a program called MonkeyBongo which was a stupid thing to do because it has been slow ever since. There was no uninstall on the program (excellent), so I removed 2 of the programs (it installed in 3 parts) via Windows Add/Remove programs thingo and the last part didnt show up in there so I removed it using Norton Systemworks Wipe Info thingo.

I ran Spybot and deleted the tracking cookies it found, but there wasnt anything very scary in that list.

I tried using Windows System Restore thingy to go back to before I loaded MonkeyBongo (I created a restore point before I downloaded it) but it freezes everytime I try to go in to restore it (never did that before).

And still my computer is very slow. I tried doing online virus scans at Trendmicro and Pandaware but neither would run or install or anything.

I use Avast antivirus and Windows Firewall on Windows XP SP2.

A:computer dosnt start anymore, after cpu upgrade

Member TVeblen’s method for a no start PC:

Strip it down and then add components back, one at a time, to try and isolate the offending component.

The test (power off, power cord unplugged):

• Disconnect everything externally connected except the mouse and keyboard (printers, USB devices). If you are not using a wired mouse and keyboard see if you can borrow one.

• Disconnect the power and data cables from all the drives inside the computer (Hard drives, DVD/CD drives).

• Remove all the cards installed in the PCI slots including the video card.

• Remove all the RAM sticks (same rules as above).
Now connect the power cord and turn the PC on.

• The motherboard should start beeping. You should get a beep code that tells you there is no memory. This is good, it means the processor is functioning and the motherboard is good so far.

• Now add one stick of memory in Slot A1 and power on. More beeping: "no video card" beep code. This is good.

• Then add the video card and connect it to the monitor. You should get no beeping and you should see the BIOS screens, ending with the message that there is no boot device.

If you get no video then switch the one memory stick installed for another one and test.

Continue adding components one at a time.

If at any point the PC fails, the last component added was the problem one.

If you removed everything and there is only the Motherboard (with integrated video), processor, ... Read more

I used to be able to play DVD movies on my computer, but without any explanation it stopped working after a while (when the computer was a few months old). The computer recognizes DVD discs when they are inserted into the drive and it can usually ?sort of? play them. Unfortunately there are several problems related to the playing:

1. The pace of both the picture and sound is inaccurate and jerky.
2. Sound and picture are often out of sync.
3. Jerkiness occur repeatedly, but sometimes the movie won?t continue to play at all. The drive tries to spin up, pauses, tries to spin up again ? this goes on and on for several minutes and can?t be stopped (the drive won?t eject). When it finally stops and the drive ejects the disc will be burning hot.
4. You never know if/when (and why ) the movie will stop working in the middle.

Sometimes the problems are really bad, sometimes not so. At its worst the computer won?t play a disc at all. A disc that won?t play at all one day may at least be somewhat watchable the next.

The drive is a combo CD-RW/DVD drive, and I can play CDs and burn CD-RWs without any trouble. The problem doesn't have anything to do with which media player I use, I have tried Windows Media Player, VLC, BSPlayer, PowerDVD, the list goes on... none of them work. It's not the discs that are damaged either, I have tried loads.

Surprisingly, to me at least, I can however copy the contents of a DVD disc to my computer using DVD Decry... Read more

A:My computer can't play DVDs properly anymore

Whenever I have the symptoms you describe it's beacause my DVD-reader can't rad the disc (because the disc is damaged). However, in your case, it might be something with the DVD-reader itself. I'm not sure my tips are really accurate, so I just say what I'd do in your possition (which might be totally unnessecary but in my cases, it has always helped with whatever I've done).

Softare first, I'd try reinstalling eventualy drivers, updating them if I could. I'd try 3rd party drivers if I could, or check if some program is interfering with the reader itself.

Then I'd go to hardware if that didn't sort the problem. I'd try switching it to another IDE cable, (assuming it's 2nd master and HDD is 1st master), I'd try putting it as 1st slave, and try switching the HDD and DVD-reader IDE-cables.

Mostly i've just been lucky fixing problems I couldn't explain just by poking around and testing the problem with different random stuff. I really don't recommend it, because when I do, I'm aware I might get things worse and I'm ready to end up buying a new computer. I hope someone else will have better suggestions. I just thought I'd write this since I have a computer problem myself and I desperately need a break (been on it for 12 hours and I still haven't had anything to eat today).

Let me know how it turns out.
Cheers.

I recently updated the bois on my Alienware x51 from 4 to 14(?) and the computer wouldn't allow me to login after it restarted, it asks for the computer to reboot and a proper boot device to be selected.
I had to put my windows 8 install disk in and search for my windows key. I didnt have a windows 8 key (the computer was factory refurbished and bought from an authorised reseller, and I wasnt provided with a key.) So I bought windows 10 and tried installing that. It loads the files and accepts the product key. The computer then prompts me to remove the windows 10 usb, and restart the computer normally. The computer boots and asks to reboot and select the proper boot device, which restarts the process.
With the other install option (custom install) I have the option to choose where to install windows, however none of the drives have enough room (I think, because I cant click next on any of them) and I'm unsure which, if any to format.
I dont care about anything thats on the computer, I just want it working again.
Cheers for any help

Recently I was just browsing the internet and my HP Pavillion p7-1074 got a blue screen of death. It flashed away very quickly so I didn't get to notice the error code. Then I tried to turn the computer back on and it wouldn't get past the windows logo. I tried booting it in windows recovery mode and safe mode, but those didn't work either. How do I fix this? I would prefer to not lose any files if possible or even just be able to recover certain files.

AMD Phenom II 960T Quad-core processor
8 GB DDR3 System Memory
ATI Radeon HD 4200

A:Computer not getting past windows logo anymore.

It is not booting in safe mode too?

Do you have access to another computer right now, if so, Download it, and burn in a disc or make USB Flash stick ready for it.
Windows Defender Offline
Then perform a full scan using it.

BTW, do you have the windows installer disc?

Hi everyone, I'm have an annoying problem on a computer that otherwise works very well. My laptop no longer properly goes into sleep mode. It still locks the computer but the hard drive and such still run. This is true when I close the laptop lid and when I put it on sleep manually. Help please!

It's an HP dv9700 with Vista Home Premium, by the way.

A:Computer won't go into proper sleep mode anymore

Hello Pompeius,

Since this just started happening, you might try a System Restore using a restore point dated before this sleep problem.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

hi there,

my computer is really stuffed up, it goes to the blue screen a lot of times and now it can't read cds or dvds that i put into the computer. when i go to y computer it says that the drives are empty and please put a disc in. i was hoping that someone could help me, my previous topic was called 'computer restarts frequently' if you wanted to look at it. i was also wondering if i'd be better off by just formatting my computer and start from scratch. but i want to point out that i only just formatted my computer 2 months ago. and prior to me formatting the computer, the blue screen of death also appeared. please can someone help me.

thanks a tonne

A:Computer Doesn't Read Cds Or Dvds Anymore

Well if it is reseting with BSOD all of the time and also now not being able to read CD's then I would say that is it likely a hardware issue. Or a driver issue. Since you have only just re-formatted and it is still happening then the later is less likely. do you have any information from the BSOD screen.

Recently my graphics card stuffed up, whenever I restarted my computer there would be three consecutive 'beeps' and the screen would stay black. I had it repaired and the person handing me back my hard drive (not the guy who repaired it) said that a new card was installed and it was apparently better for gaming.
I played games such as Age of Empires III and Civilization 4, however the games crashed occasionally. Age of Empires had never crashed when my old graphics card was installed (Nvidia Geforce graphics card) however my new card is an Asus, and during the play of civilization 4 the terrain details would disappear and black squares would emerge, then the whole screen goes into negative colours, bright yellows, purples and greens and then the computer shuts off restarts several times. This happened several times before and I would just restart. However it happened and my computer never started again. I cleaned out the iside of the hard drive and removed the dust.
The computer is 4 years old but it was well maintained, the power supply had been changed 2-3 years earlier, its brand is Hi-Tech.
I was wondering wether it is a graphics card issue, power supply issue or motherboard issue. Also I was wandering if replacing parts or buying a new hard drive is the best thing to do.

Im nine months pregnant and due any day now and i got a kodak
digital camera so that i can take pictures of my daughter and send
pictures to friends and family. when i first used my camera it let me download
pictures, but my camera came with a disk to download to your computer
i thought it had some neat photoshop so i downloaded it and quickly learned
that i had no idea to use it and didnt even like it that i liked my computer
better the way it was before. so i went to my computer and deleted it now
my computer wont download any pictures and i deleted my account on my
computer just to try to see if it was just that account and no i just ended up
deleting all the pictures that i had before. so kodak pretty much screwed me
over and im really upset about it. i want my computer to download pictures!
and also i tryed to download the kodak thing again and of course it does
not want to download. so please help me hurry my due date is getting closer
and closer!!

A:my computer wont let me download pictures anymore

I’m not sure I am following, but I think you uninstalled EasyShare. You should be able to download the photos using Windows.

Start > My Computer (Computer in Vista). With the camera hooked up and on it should make a drive under “Devices with Removable Storage”. It is often listed as “Removable Drive”. You can click on that until your picture files show. Edit > Select All. Then right click one of the highlighted files and “Copy”. Right click on any folder you want to put them in and “Paste”.

If you prefer a wizard right click on the drive. Properties > Autoplay > Pictures. Check “Select an Action to Perform”. You probably want the first choice which is the wizard. Apply and OK. Whenever you plug the camera in you should get the wizard.

You can probably find the pictures you already saved with EasyShare in Documents and Settings > All Users > Shared Documents > Shared Pictures > Kodak.

hello friends

I lwas knocked into the street in Buenos Aires by a car, complete with backpack and laptop, and as a result I had to have a new hard drive installed (I think the two events were related)...

But ever since the installation, I have been unable to record music with the audio software, GoldWave, which always worked before with the old drive...

Something is missing somewhere, I'm sure... But could someone give me hints that go beyond just "re-install audio drivers", because I've tried that....

Thanks

Bob Haskell

hello all

I recently bought a UMPC second hand in Japan, a Kohjinsha SA1F00B, with windows XP home service pack 2 in Japanese.
the computer has a 500mhz AMD Geode processor and 512 MB of RAM.

I installed a linux distribution on it (xubuntu), which is fine, but in the event it seems to have caused problems with the windows XP boot, for a reason unknown. Now the windows XP partition (NTFS) are still there, but when I try to boot i get to the windows logo and loading bar, but then it hops back to the khojinsha logo.

odd. I was thinking that I would simply reinstall windows XP from the CD.
yet, lo and behold, there is no CD included ! I have a valid microsoft licence, the green booklet and everything but no CD in the pack.
from previous experience with my wife's japanese sony VAIO, I think this might be common on japanese PC's, where they prefer to use recovery partitions. now I do have windows CD's from previous computers, but they're not in japanese and i know this is very problematic for japanese machine specific driver issues.

but my question is, how do I reinstall windows in this case ?
I'm thinking there must be some kind of recovery partition somewhere, like there was on the sony vaio, but how do I access it, and reinstall windows over the previous existing windows install, from it.

or is there anyway to fix the windows XP boot ?

thanks in advance for your help

ben

Hey everyone,

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad T410 laptop running Windows 7, 32-bit. This morning, I used it to check my e-mails and it lagged hard, so I left it there a couple of minutes. When I came back, it seemed to go fine, so I just decided to shut it down and take it to work to read my e-mails from there. (I didn't notice if it shut down properly or not; I left it on my desk and came back a couple of minutes later to put it in my bad)

When I tried to boot it from there, the screen went black right after the Windows flag logo. I restarted it, running the Startup Repair this time and it gave me this problem log:

Problem Signature 06: 24
Problem Signature 07: BadPatch
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1

I looked up on some forums in search of answers to the problem and found out it was most likely due to a Windows (or Avast?) patch that couldn't be completed or was done the wrong way. As I said earlier, I didn't see if my laptop shut down properly, I wasn't there, so it is possible that it is because of this.

To try fix this problem, I tried to boot in safe mode, but like some others, it hanged when loading \Windows\System32\Drivers\aswRvrt.sys. It hanged at the same spot while trying to boot in the three safe mode alternatives (Safe Mode, Safe Mode w... Read more

Hello, I recently bought a new power supply, along with more ram because I was already ordering the power supply. When the package came and I set everything up in the computer, the PC turned on and everything was fine. I started to play a game with my friend and the computer just turned off. No error message, nothing. I believe the computer overheated, but I could be completely wrong. Now, when I start my computer up, it gets to the Launch System Repair (Recommended) or Start Windows Normally. If I select one of them, it will get into the 'Starting Windows' screen with the orbs, and then the monitor will just go blank. The computer still runs in the background, but my monitor just is blank. It is not the RAM (I switched and went to my old RAM) And I also cannot boot into safe mode, or anything of the sort, as the same thing happens. And I cannot boot from a CD (Tried with a windows 7 repair disc and computer goes blank again)

A:Computer crashed during game, cannot boot into Windows anymore.

anyone can help?

Hi guys I need some help..
I have sony vaio, OS: Windows Vista, I'm just watching movies and suddenly my laptop hanged up and i waited for a few minutes and still not working then I decided to remove the battery and restart.

Then i tried to open again, but it doesnt work anymore :(
There are 2 Option there after that: 1. Repair your computer (recommended) 2. Start your computer normally. I tried both, still not working its keeps on restarting to same situation. Then, i decided to use safe mode.. i can go to the menus but unfortunately all options is not working. :(

And for sony vaio, there is option u can restore and rescue the data just to press F10.
I tried to rescue the data with the use of external disk but also not working.

I have 2 partition (which is C drive and D drive) - i tried to repair again then asking for drivers, but all hidden recovery and back up inside the computer is not working.. But i tried to test to copy the drive D (pictures, movies, music etc luckily i copied it to external drive)

I don't want to try the system restore, coz i have some important files in my drive C, such as office documents and credentials. :(

Then last thing i remember I have a recovery disk which i created since i bought my laptop.. then i tried to repair using the this but its nothing happen too, not even show how to repair.

Ive ran out of options already and hopefully you guys can understand my explanation and can help me..

Just inform me if you need additional informat... Read more
