The left hinge and the plastic began to separate from eachother, and now its so bad that the fan has apparantly stopped working. Will HP fix this problem? If not, I will definitely be looking at a mac or something that wont break just from average use of a laptop.

Hello,  I purchased an HP Envy Touchsmart 15 a little over a year ago. The hinge seems to have come unglued fromt the inside. I read that the HP Envy is prone to this, since the hinge is glued in production as opposed to being fastened with a screw. I'm a graduate student, and I'm unable to use my HP for schoolwork due to the faulty hinge. The computer has been handled carefully, and it's never been dropped. This is my first HP. It was great when it was working; however, a laptop that costs nearly a grand and works only for 1 year due to the construction is extremelhy dissapointing.  I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how it was handled by HP. I purchased it through costco, so I should have an extended 2 year warranty on the device.  Thanks in advance,  Alexandria

The left hinge is broken on my HP Envy 17" Touchsmart notebook.  The bottom plastic casing is also coming away. It is hard to open and close the laptop without causing more problems and I'm worried about the screen cracking.  My local tech service has been trying to source replacement parts, but has found none available. They have identified that this is a common problem with this model, and I see there are hundreds of postings with the same problem.  Please could you help?

Hello, I have had my laptop for over 2 years now. I have really been taking a great care of it and I have been more than satisfied with it until this week. One of the hinges suddenly cracked open. I did not drop it nor did I cause the damage. It really worries me that the hinge practically broke by itself and it seems as it is a common problem. I cannot close my laptop and I am afraid that my screen will get damaged if I don't get it fixed asap. And I really need my laptop for college and for work. I would love to hear from HP team on how to solve this problem quickly. So far I  have always recommended HP to my friends and I hope I will not have to change my opinion about it. Thank you for your consideration,Joanna

My left hinge has recently become visibly broken, with the top keyboard metal casing and the bottom black plastic casing becoming seperated near the hinge. I have also noticed the fan making rattling sounds as if broken pieces from the hinge have entered it. The right hinge also was slightly opening the case but tighting the screw on that side has kept that from reoccuring. Although I put in a new screw into the left hand side from enderneath the case, it has since fallen though into the casing or out completely due to the broken hinge part inside. I have seen many posts on here talking about a similar problem and many have been frustrated with the poor repsonse from HP who haven't wanted to repair the laptops for free in these cases, as this seems to be a design fault. I am no longer under warranty and do not have £100 + to fork out on a laptop which was roughly £800 RRP which is not even 2 years old due to a design fault. Is there any other way of repairing. Also, I had someobody look at this, and they say this can only be repaired with a new top case part number 720570-001.However, this isn't directly sold by HP at the moment, only through resellers and it seems that is roughly £180. Any help on this issue would be much appreciated as I am a student and tutor  and so I rely on this laptop very much and it is vital that it is working without issue at the moment as it is the middle of exam period. Regards,ARIA

I have the exact same problem that I had been hearing when using the PC for a whie, maybe 6 months or more, but did not actually see the issue until I had to take the case apart to replace a fan that had failed (according to BSOD). What turned out to be the cause of the constant clattering and the fan failure, etc. was the pieces of the base that ,once upon a time, held the fitting that the hinge screws went into. The aggravating thing about this is that I had a Care Pack that had just expired on 8/15 which I feel sure would have covered at least the fan replacement if not the required parts for the hinge. If anything is being done about this issue, please let me know

I have a PC with an asus P6X58D-E motherboard and an i7 processor.

It had not booted for a long time and I put it in storage.

Yesterday I decided I was going to get it going again. I bought a new 750w psu because I suspected that that was what was wrong with it. I replaced that and it still didn't work. I replaced the cr2032 bios battery and still no boot. I hit the clr cmos button and and booted and I got some life.

After setting some of the settings in the bios correctly and booting a few more times it was working fine. I upgraded to Windows 10 over night shut it down in the morning and went to work.

Upon returning from work it won't boot (it has been off the whole day. I have replaced the bios battery again and gone through yesterday's fixes, with no luck. What am I missing?

A:IE6 broken, Norton broken, other programs broken

Hi again,

I think I may have semi-repaired the problem. I re-installed Norton, and now it is no longer broken I think--the system tray icon is there and auto-protect works. No viruses were detected however. IEXPLORER.exe no longer runs with start-up, and it no longer re-appears as well, BUT internet explorer STILL does not work. Basically, I open it, the browser window opens, it tries to load, but then it just simply stops trying to load and effectively freezes. I have to close it through the task manager. No error message pops up, it's just a blank browser window.

I just tried installing IE7 to perhaps fix the problem, but IE7 would not install all the way so it's still broken. Here's an updated HJT log; thank you!

hello,

my situation:

I have a Compaq V6000 notebook. Several months ago it started to only charge when I placed the power cord in the right position. It keeps getting harder to find the right position. I was told that I might have a broken power socket or broken solder connection from the socket to the mobo. So I opened it up. The power socket looks normal to me, but then again, this is the first one I have ever seen.

My question:

what should I be looking for on the power board? What would I be able to notice if the solder connection was broken? and where should I look?

&

What would indicate that it is a broken power socket?

I have a win10 machine here that is getting worse and worse. Now it is off the web permanently, I can't connect at all.

It was intermittent and then progressively worse and now totally off.

It is supposed to be connecting via wifi3 whatever that means. The third wifi dongle I've put in since I've been hassling with it?

It claims it cannot see any available networks. A machine one metre away also running win10 sees four or five.

The machine is on an Asus H170 pro gamer board with an i3 cpu.

Here are some of the rough notes I eventually started jotting down as the thing went on, in no particular order but just as they came to me. You can see I finally got exasperated enough to start doing it when the machine started not even waking up:

. Machine doesn't wake up after it has gone to sleep from inactivity - or machine starts the onboard fan but there's no video signal. Plug a different monitor in and it, too, reports no signal. So it is the board.

. How to shut down the board in such a case with a keypress or two? I have to hold the start button down for a long time.

. When it reports it cannot see any networks I can find no way to compell it to search for networks.

. Reported 'wifi2 not a valid IP configuraton' - what on earth does that signify?

. Reported possible problem with windows adapter or access point or network cable. There is no cable, it's wifi, the 'adapters' - wifi dongles - have been changed and proven to work in other machines.

My question: Is the TouchSmart tm2 compatible with WIN 10 and what must be accomplished to achieve a successful install? First, a slignt rant.I was successfuly running WIN 10 on my TouchSmart tm2 when I updated a video driver and afterwards could only get a blank screen. Yes, my bad! I paid HP $99 for incident support and their only suggestion was to do a full system recovery & reinstall WIN 7 Pro. Really? You made me pay for that?  Since I didn't have the OS disks (it was OEM) I had to pay HP $25 for the media and $15 FOR SECOND DAY DELIVERY ONLY TO HAVE THE MEDIA ARRIVE ON DAY 3.  I can't reach anyone at HP to refund the delivery failure. Now support is stating that my computer isn't compatible with WIN 10. If I was successfully running WIN 10, why is it now un compatable?

Hello, i have a HP TouchSmart computer that i need to reformat badly. I am wondering if reformatting it with any regular vista CD key will lose such features as the touchscreen, wireless mouse & keyboard, built in webcam.

The Original owner of the computer claims it came with its own Vista CD key that he lost.

Hi Jack0000

If the HP restore partition is in good condition (not damaged or malware-ridden), you can perform a re-write of the factory-original hard-disk-image by tapping the F11 as your HP is first powered on, then following the prompts as shown (step-by-step, with screenshots) in the following instructions at the HP support website --- http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...=3752240#N1066

Note that you'd first want to move any data that you wish to save off to removable or external media before you run a return to factory original.

Once the factory-original image is restored, you'll have to visit Windows Update to get the Security Updates since the TouchSmart was shipped. You'll want to update the Security software as well (if you need a free alternative, I think "avast! antivirus" is a good choice).

Once the PC is updated and fully protected against malware, you can then create a recovery disk set onto DVDs following the instructions from this HP support webpage --- http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...name=c00882383

Having made your own Recovery DVD set allows you the freedom of running the recovery onto a new, blank drive - should you need or wish to upgrade to a new hard drive in the future.

You can, of course, also order Recovery DVDs directly from HP for most models. The price is considerably less than purchasing a Windows license retail. Much less.

Best of luck
. . . Gary

In my quest to clean out a bunch of unused programs, I found that I have HP TouchSmart Recipe Box.

After researching about this, I decided it just might be something my wife could use; however, everything I have read about it says it is for HP TouchSmart computers.

My desk-top is HP but I don't think it is a TouchSmart.

My question is, must we have a TouchSmart computer to utilize the HP TouchSmart Recipe Box ?

Thanks.

A:HP TouchSmart Recipe Box ???

Try these Google searches:

HP Magic Canvas
HP TouchSmart Recipe Box

What exact model of HP do you have? I find it difficult to believe it isn't a touchsmart if it came with the software. It looks like the apps can be used with a keyboard in many cases, though. See review video in your other thread.

I am new to the forum but a long time computer tech. I have been to the forum on various occasions for help on fixing different issues. I have to say this is a great community that helps alot of people including myself. I've ran into an issue that I believe is needing some of you guys expertise.
What I have is a touchsmart laptop from HP that the keyboard and the touchpad mouse quit working. I have searched all over the internet looking for answers and came across a few telling me to pull the battery and AC adapter to reset the computer. I've had no luck on this being a solution. I have read that booting the computer with the touchscreen facing out is what causes this issue.

So I've tried pulling the power and the battery then holding the power button in to drain any residual energy left on the CPU. And upon booting the computer keyboard will respond but only for the menu that states for starting Windows normally or in Safe mode. After letting the computer boot completely the keyboard and touchpad quits working altogether. This is booting it up in safe mode or in normal mode. The laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium and I believe that this is my only issue. Any help or ideas on what else to troubleshoot will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

ok guys i really need some help/guidance here.  There is so much infomation here that im sincerely overwhelmed... I will give you as much information as I have and hope SOMEONE can help! First, I hope i selected the correct board to write this in. As stated, I have a pavilion touchsmart23 all in one pc. I am NOT at ALL computer saavy so work with me here. I dont know if its 32 bit or not nor do I know if it is imperative to my issue. Here is my problem. My computer works fine 70% of the time. Suddenly the screen will go black and give me a disk boot error message. I cant remember word for word but this is what it saYS: "no boot disk has been detected or boot disk has failed". When this happenes, I have to disconnect the computer from the wall and reconnect and start over. This always fixes it so it leads me to believe it is some sort of glitch. I called HP and they told me to run a system quick and extensive check on the hard drive which i have done. Both passed and no errors reported. Another thing that will happen is that the screen will go dark, (typically after idling and when i return and move the mouse or type on keyboard, the screen never lights up again as its supposed to when it is no longer idling. It stays VERY dark and I can barely makeout the screen.  I am not sure why this is happening nor do I know what steps to take from here. I am hoping someone can suggest the next step for me or refer me to a thread that already covers thi... Read more

Hi, I just recently got an Envy All-in-One Touchsmart; it is a super machine and so far, so good. The 10-point touch is really cool, but there are many instances when I would like to be able to use a pen in order to be more precise in my pointing or to "mark up" a document.  I know Microsoft Office has the "inking" feature because I use it on my Laptop with a "pen" while I am traveling and have found it invaluable -- and, by the way this laptop is both touch and pen enabled. I tried to enable "pen" by going to the Control Panel feature that is says says Pen and Touch, but when you do so, it is only for Touch.  How can I make it so that it both touch and pen enabled?  If that is all possible, what type of "pen" do I need? Thank you very much

A:Enabling Pen on TouchSmart

Hi AIResnick, A stylus used on a capacitive touch screen basically just takes the place of your finger, so enabling touch on the computer will enable pen input as well. But it can't just be any pen or stylus, the material at the tip has to be something that will register as touch on the screen, and not scratch it. I read your other post and I understand you're looking for a finer-tipped stylus, rather than the ubiquitous blunt-ended, eraser-type stylus pens. That limits your options quite a bit, because I believe the larger surface area is part of what makes those pens work on capacitive screens. (Other types of touch screens can use other styles of stylus, including pointy-tipped ones in some cases.) I've heard good things about the Jot Pro from Adonit. I haven't tried it, so I can't speak from experience. The design seems clever--it looks like they attached a clear, flat disc to the tip of a metal pen, so you can see precisely where you're writing with the point of the pen, but the clear disc provides enough surface area for the touch to register, and prevents damage to your screen from the sharp pen point. I hope that helps.

Hi

I have just bought one of these damaged. The screen is smashed, there is no HDD, RAM, Battery and Power Supply. It also has bad damage to one corner (been dropped from a huge height by the looks) thus damaging lid, palm rest and base. I know RAM and P/S are not a great cost issue but I'm not sure if it is worth buying a new screen and hdd for it. I paid ?42.00 for laptop as it was part of a job lot, and I see they retail at around ?500-?600. Should I fix it up to sell or keep, or just sell it as it is to see if I can make a slight profit?

When you press the power button the LED light flickers green one time but remains off. The computer does not power up at all. I have tested the power supply with a laptop and it is working. I have also tried another identical powersupply on the PC but the same thing occurs. Thanks

I recommend that you uninstall Zone Alarm using this uninstall tool: http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cpes_clean.exe. ZA is a documented and well known cause of BSOD's on some Win 7 systems. Make sure Windows Firewall is turned on.

I've got a TouchSmart 610-1280qd desktop. It was working fine until 1 week ago when my home had a power outage. Now, it won't even boot up. No power, nothing. Even the power brick light is out. I bought a replacement power brick and when I plug it in, the green led light on the new brick(the old is blue) immediately goes out and there's still no power. The power button effects no response, nor does any button on the keyboard have any effect. There's just no power to the entire computer. I've tried plugging both the old and new power bricks in and initially, the blue and green lights on each respectively go on, until I plug them into the desktop.  Then the lights go out and still no power and no response by pressing the power button or any button on the keyboard. I've also tried plugging in the old and new power bricks without the surge protector. The power bricks lights go on, but as soon as I plug them in, still no power. I've tried different outlets around my house and the power bricks lights go on, but as soon as I plug them into the desktop, no power. I've tried plugging he power bricks into the desktop first, then the outlets, and no power at all either in the desktop. There is no response at any stage where i've pressed the keyboards buttons. The desktop just doesn't have any power at all.   Anyone have a problem with this? Hi @markdag, Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.I understand that you are looking for information on connecting your Touchsmart  All-in-One to a PS4. I am happy to give you a hand with this. The available connections on Touchsmart and All-in-Ones in general vary from model to model. Some have an HDMI port that can be used as an input, and others do not. Looking at the specifications of the model you gave: HP TouchSmart 600-1350a Desktop PC Product Specifications, it shows in one diagram that it could potentially have video inputs, but it is an option. If your system does not have those, then you would not be able to use the display on the All-in-One with your PS4.   I hope that helps clarify, and if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. Hi, I need to purchase a new motherboard for my TouchSmart 610.  I've opened up the computer and found that the motherboard installed in the computer is model number DA0ZN8MB6I0 (Part number 648511-001).  While trying to find a place to purchase this mother board, I see that is motherboard is fairly expensive.  While searhing I also found another motherboard, model number DA0ZN9MB6H0 (Part number 648512-001), which is also used in the TouchSmart 610.  Visually this motherboard looks the same at the orignal motherboard and is significanly cheaper.  The part numbers differ by only one digit (before the revisoin number, 001), which makes me think that the two motherboards are very similar. Does anyone know if these two motehrboard are compatiable/interchangeable?  Where can I get information on the difference between these two motherboards? My motherboard has a built in video cards, does anyone know if the second motehrboard does as well?  or will I need to purchase a seperate video card if I were to purchase that motherbaord? Thanks for the help.

A:Trouble with HP Touchsmart

Call HP and ask to talk to a manager, then explain what's happened and the number of times you called and that you've had to send it back and demand that they replace the computer with a new one. All-in-Ones are similar to laptops, the repairs are expensive and parts are hard to get, it's best to get the manufacturer to repair or replace it especially under the warranty.

Once plugged into the computer it immediately drops to zero. I need help to know the source of my problem if it is the adapter or the computer.

Hi all,

Does anyone here experience install Win XP Pro on HP touchsmart tx2(downgrade from Vista)? I need some advise. thank you.

A:Install XP on HP touchsmart tx2

I would advise you not to install XP on a touchsmart PC. The reasons are as follows.

1. Make sure all of the drivers are available on the HP Support website.
2. Since XP tablet edition is not available in retail, the touch screen won't work.
3. You will have ask HP to give you a OEM version of XP tablet edition (which I don't think they will provide).

If you just want to use it as a non-Touch screen PC. Go you may go ahead only after you have confirmed that the drivers are available.

Post back if you have any more questions.

A:Touchsmart 300 no sound

Did your pc have working sound when new?
Check the volume level, it's easy to turn it right down or mute it.
Check if the speakers are selected by going to the speaker icon in tray near the current time.
Right click on speaker icon, choose 'playback devices'.
A new box appears, with a speaker and it should have a green tick over it.
Right click on the icon and choose the option 'test', you should hear audio tones.
If you don't have a green tick, right click on icon and choose 'enable'.

THis has only happened within the last couple of days and it has been instant, rather than over time. I did a System Restore but this didn't solve the issue. It may ahve been because I had to stop a disk check last week because my laptop battery died but I'm not sure if that would have such a big effect on the laptops performance.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks a lot
Dan

A:Hp Touchsmart TM2 crashing

That would have a huge effect not finishing a disk check. If you can boot in, Make sure you have your power adapter attached, Go to Start/Search and type CMD Right click the CMD.exe icon in the Search Results and Run As Administrator. In the Command Prompt type chkdsk /R and press enter. Now type a Y and reboot the computer. The Check Disk Utility will try and fix any problems.

Upgraded to windows 10 and now unable to use convenient features I've had for years.  My touchpad is disabled, so can't just tap the pad to select what I want; my DigitalPersona fingerprint is disabled and in trying to enable it again, it appears to want to trick me to permanently delete my saved fingerprint.  How can I get these features back.  Thanks.

I have a currently crippled HP touchsmart 300-1003. I replaced a dead hard drive with a new 1TB HDD. I have available to me 2 sets of touchsmart recovery disks, and Windows 7 Bootable USB drive (made with win7 tool). The official recovery CDs do absolutely nothing but tell me MBR IS MISSING PRESS CTRL ALT DEL TO RESTART. The bios lists my new HDD (can tell because size is now 1000GB). I cannot choose USB drive as first boot in bios or boot order (this pc has two different menus for the same function, idky). Is there a bootdisk I can use to fixmbr? Please be so kind to provide a guide to getting a touch computer running from the begininng. All the advice online seems to be for computers that will go to a recovery screen already. If I could do that I wouldn't need the disks, lol. I would like to install the touchsmart software but will settle for any windows at this point. Thanks in advance to anyone that is able to walk me through the process.1 Hour Later: To use MSWIN7 USB Tool, I had to ENABLE BOOT DIAGNOSTIC from BIOS, power on, let the black screen read Configured 01 usb drive, ctrlaltdel, f10 to bios again, disable boot diagnostic screen, save and continue f5, then hit ESC for tiny boot menu at the HP LOGO, pick USB 2.0 as first boot. The tool started windows as Repair (which I followed MSguide for bootsec and /fixmbr, no clue if that fixed mbr tho) and Install Windows 7. I picked install. More updates to come.

I have been dealing with a broken home on my laptop for more than a year. I just searched these forums and found ~70 posts all with the same issue. This seems to be due to poor design that never should have made it past the quality assurance engineers, having a metal hinge screwed into non-reinforced plastic. I find it reprehensible that a premium laptop was made so poorly. I am told by local PC repair shops that it will cost me $400+ to get this fixed. That's 1/3 what I paid for the machine in the first place.I tried calling support and was directed to log onto the support site for assistance, from which I was directed to search the forums. I thought HP made better products than this, but hadn't wanted to put up the money to get one to find out. Then I bit the bullet and got rewarded with a busted hinge on a laptop that spends its days being used by my wife at home, bring opened and closed 2-3 times per day. And now it seems like I'm going to get the runaround to get this fixed, or just have to trash an otherwise great machine due to crappy hinges. I love this laptop as far as performance and hardware specs go but it is a pain to open and close to try and avoid breaking the other hinge and essentially removing the screen.Any guidance on what I can do to get an actual answer or a case submitted to get any useful help?

It's been a while since I bought the HP Touchsmart 600-1350. Recently I took it out and restore it to its oringinal state. However, It's still kind of slow so I decide to do a little research about upgrading this fossil.  So far, I noticed that the i3 m370 cpu @2.40GHz can be upgraded, so does RAM (4GB to 8GB with Win 7 64 bit). What about the graphics? This HP Touchsmart 600-1350 has a intel HD graphic which has only 64MB. I saw a lot people are saying that GT 230M can be installed since there is a PCIe (MXM 2.0) socket available. Is that true? do I need to install cooling as well, or just plug it in and play? Is there any other model of graphic cards that are compatible? Thanks

Just curious if anyone has tried or been successful with an upgrade from Win 7 to 10 on these old Touchsmart desktops. The hardware qualifies to make the upgrade, but as HP has noted that it has not developed/tested any new drivers for Win 10. I actually tried the upgrade before the July 29 deadline because MS "check my PC" said it was good to go. Don't know why I didn't check HP site to verify, even though I didnt find an answer easily. Anyway, it got locked up with a install failure but then could not restore to previous Windows either. I actually had problems with an earlier Win7 update which I think screwed up registry keys and had to be reinstalled after a fix--shut down was never quite the same. So, I think THAT may have been the reason why the upgrade install failed. I also forgot to shut down my antivirus program before installation which I've read can screw it up. My PC was down for 5 days while I tried to restore, reboot, reinstall, and even got Microsoft phone help for 5 hours intermittently and remotely via a working netbook. It really was a mess, not booting up, and when it did, it would stutter, delay, then freeze. Repair disk and USB drives would freeze during loading. Seemed to get different error messages that would force restart and then stall. MS help gave up when I got an error message that implied that there was a hardware failure. I can't remember the code but that's what they claimed. Suggested I contact HP for assist. On my own as a last... Read more

So one of the Civilian guys i work with has an HP Pavilion Touchsmart with Windows 8 installed and he overheard me talking to someone about my ability to wipe a computer and clean-install windows 7. He asked if i could do it on his new HP since he basically refuses to use it because of 8 and can't take it back...I've done a lil bit of research about this PC and i guess it wasnt offered in a 7 variant (at least i cant find it) and i read a few articles about downgrading only being possible on Windows 8 *PRO* machines.

I've tried the conventional boot from flash drive with Windows 7 install files, and try to install but it says it cannot do it because the partition style is GPT...and i have no earthly clue what that is...it's new to me. I've wiped and clean installed windows 7 on countless computers now...even one that had windows 8 on it that was an HP...but for some reason this one is extra tricky.

Any body have any Tips or Tricks, links or anything that can help guide in the right direction to getting 8 off this thing and putting 7 on it? It has to be possible...like i said, i've done countless computers now and havent failed yet...but this one has me scratching my head...HARD!!!

EDIT: Wanted to post up the exact product specs for future use

Same problem as some of the others with touch screen not responding.  It works part of the time and then stops. BUT this is the weird part...  if I press control/alt/delete and select Task Manager then select "X" to close the box (without doing anything), the touch screen will work again.  It used to work for a day or two at a time.  Now I have to do the Task Manager thing about every 10-15 minutes.  It's driving me nuts!!  At most I have my email and maybe 2-3 browser tabs open.  I am in no way a techie person.  If someone could help me using plain English that would be wonderful. Or tell me this thing is dying and I need a new one.  Help, please!! Product E1P04AVModel 15t-i100

I'm having a heckuva time upgrading the RAM on this machine. For starters, I attempted a RAM upgrade several months to a year ago. I went to HP Customer Support product page to learn what kind of RAM I needed, and how much the maximum was. It doesn't appear the RAM info on the product page is correct, because I ordered what I thought was EXACTLY what I needed and when it arrived and I took the machine apart to install the RAM I discovered there was NO WAY what I bought was going to fit. The product page says the machine has PC3-10600 DDR3-1333 RAM installed. What I bought was PC3-10600 DDR3-1333mhz 240 pin DIMM desktop RAM. It appears the rub is desktop RAM vs. laptop RAM. HP's product page doesn't specify the Touchsmart 310 uses laptop RAM, or at least what I suspect is laptop RAM. The installed RAM is small (SODIMM?) where the RAM I bought to upgrade is large "stick" RAM. The RAM that is currently installed in the machine has a sticker on it that reads "1RX8 PC3-10600S-9-10-B1". I just need to know without a doubt what to buy to do the RAM upgrade, because the machines performance is poor, returning mailorder items are a hassle and I don't necessarily enjoy tearing apart my computer for essentially no reason. To add insult to injury, after I realized the mailorder RAM wasn't going to fit, I put the computer back together without writing down the specs of the installed RAM to attempt to resolve the dilemma, so I had to tear the machine apart today (and put it back together) ... I own an HP Envy TouchSmart 15 Notebook PC product number: E0K05UA#ABA and Model: 15-j053cl

I had a couple plastic screw inserts that hold the right side hinge to the top cover of the laptop break due to very high strength of the hinges which caused the top cover of the laptop to pry apart from the base enclosure when opened (a problem many owners of this laptop model have had). Since I was out of warranty I ordered a replacement on Ebay using the correct part number 720570-001 and disassembled my laptop to make the repairs and loosen the hinges while I was at it. I swapped out all parts being careful to note where and how plugs and ribbons were connected so I could put it back together correctly. Now after having it reassembled it will not turn on.

I get a white LED light to turn on when I plug in the power cord AC adapter (should be amber/orange in color to signify it is charging the battery) but no other sounds lights or signs of life. I have attempted to remove the battery and power cord, pressed the power button for 8-30 seconds to drain power and do a reset and then try to power up with plugging in the power cord but it won’t turn on. I also tried to power up by removing one part at a time including the hard drive, two RAM sticks, and wireless card but still not able to turn on. Do you have any ideas for what may be wrong or steps I can take to troubleshoot? Is this possible a mother board issue? Everything was working fine before embarking on this r... Read more
