W732 Pro UAC causes XP virtual machine configuration Error.

Q: W732 Pro UAC causes XP virtual machine configuration Error.

Hi,

Below, see XP virtual machine configuration Error Msg. indicating: "User does not have sufficient access rights".

Yet the next image: "Never notify me when", indicated I am at the lowest UAC level. Or are the lower levels represented by Easter Eggs?

Also, note the Windows XP mode is installed, but because of the XP virtual machine configuration msg above, I can't go further.

I have Googled this situation to no avail. Found a few vague postings but they have lead to dead ends.

Any help, suggestions will be much appreciated.

cheers,

klxdrt

Unable to start the application-the Java Virtual Machine cannot be loaded.
Class not registered

Well thats the error I get. I was trying to use my HP all in one to scan (Which I don't do but once in a blue moon) and I can't get it to work. It was working but I downloaded Java from Sun Micro , and now I get this message. I tried to uninstall the Java to see if that would work but it didn't any thoughts?? I mean I could totally wipe my system and start over which I do occasionally just for giggles and grins but I would like to see if I can fix this.

BTW I'm using XP SP2 with most every update except IE 7

All help is greatly appreciated.

I will let you know I did google the error message and got something about the whole Microsoft issue with Java Lawsuit blah blah blah. Also I found some threads of what other people have done to try and fix this issue, but I don't have any chickens handy and I can't wait until the moon is in the seventh hour of the seventh day of the seventh... you get what I'm saying.

Once again all help is greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone,

I am having a problem with XP. I clean installed and everything went fine. When I go to a site to play an online game, my system comes up with an error and/or reboots. The error says I don't have enough Ram and something about an error with JAVA. I have 512 ram right now. I took that out and put in my 256 chip to see if maybe the ram is bad and it looks as if both are fine. So I tried again and as it loads the game, poof, it auto reboots.

I never had this problem with ME.

Any help would be appreciated.

"An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine:"

Hopefully someone can interpret this...HotSpot Virtual Machine error log...for me.

When changing games at Pogo.com, I've been getting occasional crashes from my Firefox 1.0.2.

It happened again tonight but, this time there was a file left on my desktop.
I used Notepad to open it and save it.
The contents of that log are in the link above.

I'm hoping that someone knowledgeable can interpret the log, identify what is
causing the error and possibly suggest a fix for whatever causes these
crashes.

This is the first and only time such a log has been left after a crash.

Thank you,

I can't get rid of this popup every time I open my pc.
I have tried everything.
Here's the error :

Java Virtual Machine Launcher
Error : could not open 'C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_21\lib\amd64\jvm.cfg

There is no amd64 folder in the jdk1.6.0_21

Thank you.

A:Java Virtual Machine Launcher error

I don't actually know the answer to your problem, but there may be a clue in the error message where it refers to ' jdk1.6.0_21\lib\amd64\jvm.cfg' .

JDK refers to the Java Developers Kit, which is only needed if you intend to develop your own java applications or applets (see the explanation on the Sun download page;http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html). If you aren't a developer you probably have the wrong type of Java installed which is looking for a component you don't have.

As the JDK also includes the JRE that end users need, you probably don't need to do anything until you upgrade to the next JRE version when the next security scare turns up! If the popup is too irritating, I suppose you could uninstall the JDK and replace it with the JRE (although there are a few threads around here where people are having problems with Java uninstall and reinstalls).

As a matter of interest, do you by any chance have an AMD 64 bit processor, since that is the other thing the error message appears to mention?

Ok, I purchased a game called Minecraft for my daughter this morning and have so far been unable to use it.

When we tried to download and run it, an error message appears that says:

'Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.'
'Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.'

I really do not have a clue what this means, I would really appreciate any help or advice. I'm not technically minded at all so please go easy on the jargon!!

Hi, it looks like some time ago my computer got infected. I tried to delete the virus manually, so I erased a file called servidorcito.jar (that's Spanish for "little server"). After that, the following dialog box keeps popping up every minute or so. If I don't dismiss it, it just sits there and a new one does NOT pop up.

Java Virtual Machine Launcher
Error: Unable to access jarfile c:\Users\RRP\AppData\Roaming\Frutas\servidorcito.jar
(OK button)

Things I've tried:
Verified that .jar files are associated to javaw.exe
Checked startup items for calls to javaw.exe (found none)
Looked in registry for the string "servidorcito.jar" or suspicious uses of javaw.exe (found nothing)
Scanned whole computer with AVG free (found nothing)
Checked HiJackThis log for any obviously related items (found nothing)

The problem does not appear when only Java 32-bit is installed, it only appears when I install Java 64-bit. Uninstalling Java 64-bit makes it go away.

I've attached a picture of the dialog box and the DDS attach.log.

Hi rino009.

Before we suggest any troubleshooting steps, upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.
Click on the start button
Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.
It is a must to see before saying anything to you.

I'm using an AlienWare M14 machine. I tried to create a virtual machine locally using Client Hyper-V on Windows 8 Pro, but it still doesn't work (took me a lot of time). I added the Hyper-V features in "Turn windows feature on or off", and all of the requirements to run Hyper-V are fulfilled (SLAT, BIOS, 64 bits, ...) (I attach the msinfo32 output in this post). At the last step in creating a virtual machine, it says "... General access denied error... (0x80070005)" (for details, check my attached image). I googled, tried some solutions but still no luck so far.

Thanks for any help.

I am trying to to a repair installation on my Win7(64) Pro system: the one called "Upgrade" which does not delete user files, settings or programs. Every time I try to run the setup program from the DVD I burned from the Digital Rivers ISO I downloaded, the installation stops and I get the following Compatibility Report: "The following issues are preventing Windows from upgrading...Setup was unable to determine whether there is any virtual machine installed."

I've no idea what this means but want to fix the problem so I can run the repair installation setup. Any ideas?

A:Repair installation: error message about virtual machine

Wild guess: Do you have XP Mode installed? If so, try uninstalling it, see if that helps.

Have you tried disabling your anti-virus, shutting down everything you can then try the Repair? You could even try How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

If nothing else works, backup your data and Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

It wipes everything so you definitely need to backup first. I know this is not what you want to do but it may be the best way to fix the problem ad Google had nothing to offer for this problem.

Hello to everybody,
I am trying to post a help request here since is much time i try to solve this problem without success.
What brought me to post the help request is the new fact that i get the same error after ported my
system in a Virtual Machine.

I explain better.
Several years ago I purchased an HP Desktop P6228it equipped with Q8300 CPU and 6Gbytes of RAM.
It came with Windows 7 (don't remember if Pro or Home) and I updated it with W7 Ultimate.
It worked fine for long time when suddenly the DVD stopped to work.
I supposed to be an hardware failure so i didn't cared to much, it was not essential for me.
Then also the audio stopped to work. It was neither essential too, so i didn't cared.
Then I realized that some other "exclamation points" was showed in the Device Manager.
I have at moment a "code 3" for the following devices:
Audio, Intel ICH10LPC, Intel QuadCPU, Display, CD-ROM.
I tried to install a PicoScope device and also it have now a "code 3" error in the device driver.

Recently i virtualized all my systems as sort of backup procedure.
Also this PC has been virtualized and tested.
During the test of the virtualization on a completely different computer i surprisingly noticed that
also on the virtual machine the same errors was listed.
So i realized the computer has not hardware problems but completely software problems.
I would really appreciate an help about this "code 3" error.
I followed a number of hints and procedure... Read more

SOLVED!
I finally managed to solve it!
I have finally found this link:

windows 7 - Several devices in Device Manager have Code 3 error - Super User

The instructions are related to Win7 32 bit.
I exported a REG file of a Win7 64 bit machine I also have.
I imported in the defective o.s. and IT WORKED!

It has to do with a wrong setting of the file: wdf01000.sys

I just installed windows 8.1 pro on an MSI z97 pc mate motherboard with I5 3.3 ghz processor, 16 gb ddr3 1600 MHz ram, with embedded realtek pcie gbe NIC. I checked and found that hardware virtualization is enabled by default in the BIOS.

I tried to set up a virtual switch using the latest bios and drivers from MSI. I created a virtual switch choosing the external option and the share with host OS option. I then connected to the VM. No network connectivity on VM but host still worked.

I then used autopatcher to update windows 8.1 on the vm. I removed and reinstalled the virtual switch choosing external option and share with host OS option. Same conditions occurred.
And then I installed the latest NIC driver. Same problem - media disconnected.

I tried this process with the latest driver from the realtek website which was a couple years more up to date. I had such high hopes! Same problem.

I then used msconfig to prevent all non-Microsoft services from starting and rebooted. I removed and recreated the switch and I was still hoping for success. Same exact conditions occurred.

These are the conditions that occur whenever an external switch with host os sharing enabled is installed in between all of these troubleshooting steps. It looks exactly the same every time...
The host machine can still access the network but it does so through the virtual switch. Ipconfig /all on the host reveals the following...

Can someone explain the difference between these 3 programs?

A:Remote desktop, Virtual Machine and Virtual Box

Hi Jason6161 Two of these words are closely related, while the other one isn't.Remote Desktop is often a reference to the "RDP" acronym, which means "Remote Desktop Protocol", a protocol used by Microsoft Windows systems to remotely connect to another Windows system (or even other OS now). There's a nice little article on Microsoft website about, I suggest you to give it a read. If there's something you don't understand in it, let me know and I'll explain it to you.Connect to another computer using Remote Desktop ConnectionA Virtual Machine is like the state name, a machine that doesn't exist physically, it only exists virtually inside a system. It's the emulation of a system inside another system. So you could for example have Windows 8.1 installed on your computer, but using a program, create a virtual machine running Windows XP in it. To put it simply, it's running an independant system (guest) inside a system (host). For more information, you can consult the Wikipedia article below.Virtual machineVirtualBox is a program developped and maintenant by Oracle that allows you to create virtual machines. It's what we call an "hypervisor". A program that allows you to create and manage virtual machines. For more information, you can consult their website and their Wikipedia article.VirtualBoxVirtualBox WikiSo to sum it up, you can use VirtualBox to create a virtual machine (or multiple VMs), and you use the "Remote Desktop" to connect remotely to another computer and access it. ... I've got a few machines on Virtual PC, copies of one base installed template, all running XP Pro.

I moved one of these virtual machines to another box, and now that virtual machine cannot talk to any other virtual machine on the original box, or the original host itself.

Any ideas why this is?

In Virtualbox's main screen, select your XP machine (do not start it). Click settings. On the left side, click System. On the Motherboard tab, set Base Memory to 1024. On the Acceleration tab, be sure that both boxes are checked. You may need to enter your computer's BIOS and enable its virtualization features. On the left side, click Display. On the Video tab, be sure that Enable 3D acceleration and Enable 2d video acceleration are checked. Click OK to save the changes.Start the XP virtual machine and let it finish booting. Above XP you'll see a menu bar. Click Devices > Install Guest Additions and follow the prompts. You will not be able to install your ATI drivers. Virtualbox is emulating its own set of hardware for Windows XP to use. My instructions will tell Virtualbox to give XP enough resources to run your game.As for the game itself, if it is on a CD, click Devices > CD/DVD Devices and make sure that your CD drive is selected.

Hello everyone,

I am hoping someone may be able to help me with the following. I tried to use VMware's free "converter" software to convert my physical HP machine to a virtual machine. However, when trying to run the virtual machine, it says that the virtual machine has two processors & that it is limited to only using one processor, & therefore, will not start. The physical machine is a dual core processor, but I see no way to configure the virtual machine so that it only has one processor.

It seems to me the software should just configure itself to at least run, and from there a person can try to tweak the settings and be advised if there are limitations at that point, but that would make to much sense. Alternatively, they could provide an easy way to change the settings so you can at least get the thing to run, but again, that would make to much sense.

Anyway, if anyone can help me get the virtual machine clone running, please let me know.

Thanks
John

I have a new Dell E6520 running Enterprise 64bit. I need the virtual XP to run some older software. Following the instructions, I successfully installed Windows XP mode. Next step is to install Virtual PC. The installation of KB958559 appeared successful, but when I restarted the computer it got to about 95% and reported configuration failure. It then reverted changes (thank goodness).

I saw some statement about the BIOS not having virtualization support enabled,so I checked my computer and found that it was enabled.

What should I do now?

Hello all,

Just joined, first post, please be gentle, ouch!!

This driver signature issue is a real pita. Anyway, not too interested in any of the work-arounds I have seen so far.

We are having a very hard time with unsigned drivers in W764. My first and hopefully simple question is does this same issue exist with W732?? If the driver sig issue is only on 64bit then we will just move to W732 and keep working.

BTW, the only work around I found interesting was using the Win32 SDK from M$ and signing the driver. Has anyone here had any experience with trying that solution? I would assume, if you did not author the driver at some point you would have a problem with authentication and you would be right back to where you started.

Greetings. I have Windows XP with 2048 memory, 4096 pagefile, and two drives. My "Program Files" and "Windows" directories are in C: . The "My Documents" directory is in D: . I'm yet to decide whether to place my pagefile in C or D. I thought the most disk activity will occur in C: , so D would seem the best choice for pagefile, but I'm not really sure about this. Any hints?

I've used Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 and now I'm demoing VMWare for a trial period. I must say on so far only running Virtuals of Vista, XP, and Server 2003 Vista is hard to emulate for a virtual PC. The funny thing is that VMWare does a better job than Virtual PC which is funny considering MS makes Vista and you would think they could emulate it better but no.

So that kind of gets to my next question? Anyone know any more virtual machines out there they themselves have tried and where please with. I'm thinking of forcing some of my users in my domain to go virtual and creating an image of their Harddisks on site. It's Sooooo much easier restoring a virtual system versus the real thing in every sense of the word. So far I like VMware more the way it handles and the options it gives but MS Virtual PC 07' you can't beat at it's price, free.

Hi guys! I was planning on installing a virtual machine on my laptop for education purposes (I would be installing Linux, and learning how to use the command line interface)

I was just worried that since people say Virtual Machine OS's run slower than your real OS, that my specs wouldn't be enough or I dont have enough RAM. The laptop I will be installing it on has got:

CPU: I3 3110M
RAM: 4GB
HDD: 1TB

Would the virtual machine be too slow for me to be able to reasonably use?

A:virtual machine

You'd need to get yourself some virtualization software.
I use VirtualBox, but there are others available if you prefer.

You also need the installation disks for an Operating System, and a license to install them as though on a regular machine.

If the Operating System you install is 32 bit it will be able to run 16 bit software.
If the Operating System you install is 64 bit it won't be able to, just as your physical host OS cannot run such software.
If you install another family of OS onto the VM, such as Linux, you'll be able to run Linux software from within the Virtual machine but not Windows software.

Any more questions feel free to ask.
And Merry Christmas to you too.

Okay so I was wondering earlier. Is it possible, and if so is it easy enough, to use a Virtual Machine to test files for malware. For example, if you used VM Ware and install Windows or Linux and some security tools on it and tested files on there before using it on your actual PC. So you could determine whether or not a file was clean, and if it was then fair enough you can use it on your actual PC. So, is there any chance that if a file was infected, it could break out of the Virtual Machine and infect your actual PC, rather than just infecting the Virtual PC and you just wiping that and reverting back.

If this can be done, then is there a good free alternative to VM Ware for using Virtual Machines, because as far as I know, VM Ware isn't free and unfortunately I can't purchase it right now. Also, does anybody know of a tutorial or can write one themselves on using a Virtual Machine like VM Ware, for checking files for malware and infections using Virtual Machines. Preferably using Linux as I don't have a spare copy of Windows to use right now, however either will do.

Thanks for reading.

A:Virtual Machine Help

The question you must first answer is whether you want to be able to use both OS's at the same time - - for that you'd need to use a Virtual Machine.
If you want to run them separately, then you could install them as dual-boot.

As far as Virtual Machines Hosts go, you'd probably be better with Oracle VirtualBox than Microsoft VPC2007 - (VPC isn't fully supported in Vista Home Premium). Other options include VMWare (which is arguably better than either).

Dual Booting Windows and Linux is not really a job for beginners - although there are many sites that will get you started - and I would suggest playing in a VM first even if you eventually elect a dual-boot.

Hi all
One should not DEFRAG SSD's.

However if one uses Virtual Machines quite a lot with data updates / changes then a Virtual Hard drive usually needs to be de-fragmented due to the way the Virtual I/O is mapped to the "Real File system" on the host machine.

Since defragmenting SSD's is NOT at all recommended does this imply that one should NOT use SSD's for Virtual Machines or Virtual Hard disks.

I've googled around but can't seem to find any refrences on this particular topic.

Using an SSD for a HOST OS is fine since the OS itself doesn't change much but a Virtual Machine is a different matter.

Cheers
jimbo

A:SSD use for Virtual Machine(s)

Actually you can defrag a SSD, and it does indeed help improve performance, because of compressing free space.

However:
It should not or does not need to be done often.
Also, defragmenters like the built in Win7 one can cause more harm than good.

Defragmenters like PerfectDisc, with the Consolodate option is perfectly safe for a SSD.
Although it states its defragmenting, all it is actually doing is compressing free space, which is fine.

Theres also DiskKeeper, but it requires an additional add-on called Hyperfast.
(I know little about this other than it supposedly works very well for SSDs and in much the same manner)

Obviously you wouldn't want to run it daily, but on occasion does help, and is fine.

Im only aware of these 2 that are safe to use w/SSDs. More so with PD11.

Sadly, I am not all that familiar with VMs.
But, would it possibly help to consolodate the system files, then set up your VM?

Sorry not much help.

I have decided that I want to test out Linux and Windows XP (later is for nostalgia), and so I decided to download a VM called VirtualBox. The installation went fine, but it's this nex part that bothers me. I am afraid that I'll mess up and turn my Windows 10 to one of the above.
So what I need is to avoid this, but I don't understand youtube guides on how they do this. I'm afraid that downloading an ISO file might accidentally boot it on my harddrive, and not the virtual.
First things first, do anyone know where I can get a Windows XP (or maybe Windows 7 or 8 instead to use internet), and any Linux (don't know much about the various OS) ISOs?
Then, how do I proceed with installing them in my VirtualBox? I have already set up one for XP, but ofc it has nothing to boot up.

Has it ever worked under Win7?
Do you have other output jacks that you can test with?
Are you tried any other speaker to eliminate the ones that don't work?
Did this stop working after you installed Win7?

Hope to hear back from you soon.

I want to maybe run a virtual machine with Linux or a different WIndows version.

I currently have 4 GB ram & i5-4200 cpu.

Since I can't change CPU, do you think adding more RAM will make the VM run more smoothly?
Or with these specs a VM won't run quite as fast.

Thanks

A:How much RAM should I have to smoothly run a virtual machine?

Adding more RAM will certainly help, Linux will use as much RAM as you can throw at it. However, most Linux will run fairly well in a VM (at least in a VirtualBox VM) with 1 GB or even 512 MB.

Prospero, You should treat any Virtual Drive Operating System as a new computer and they are vulnerable to you picking up a virus. Data comes in thru it's own Ethernet connection and does not get tested by your main OS's av.

I recommend installing an AV on each.

Unless your running DOS 6.2 on a Virtual Machine

I am seeing where Android can be run from inside XP. I am wondering if I can use Android to surf the internet? Would using Android from within XP isolate XP from being attacked or hacked while online? Would common storage and files be available to each OS? Or would all Android activity be restricted to being accessed from the virtual machine?

I am often rocking-out from the XP box and surfing the web with the Win 7 box when the grandson pushes me out of my chair to get online. It would be sooooo handy to be able to do both from the same box again.

I had a very ugly experience with dual-booting ubuntu for this same purpose and I now consider ubuntu to be malware. Would android also destroy my jukebox the way ubuntu did?

A:android virtual machine?

Android doesn't just work on all machines. You have to have custom settings and other changes to make it work.

You also need to partition your new OS so it doesn't over write XP. Which means you cannot access the XP side of things when running Android.

A:Virtual Machine - Windows 8

While I am not sure what the problem is, nor can I quickly find out what Windows Evolution 8 is supposed to do, there are four folders showing in you screenshot. I suggest you double click on these to see if you can find a file called install or setup .exe or .ini . I would try Sources or Support first, but you need to find the actual installer file.

I have recently acquired a new laptop that has Vista as its operating system. I have software, Quickbooks 2004, that will not run on Vista. To upgrade is expensive. I am told that if I install Microsoft Virtual Machine I can install XP on the same computer and use my old Quickbooks program. I assume that this is correct.

Does anyone have experience with Virtual Machine? Is it hard to install and configure? I am not a computer technician, but only an end user.

I suppose the process would be to install VM, then install XP, then install Quickbooks. Is this correct? Any other thoughts or advice?

Thanks.

A:Vista, XP, and Virtual Machine

If you have a valid license for XP then that is correct. And the process is made very easy.
For windows on windows stuff, download Microsoft Virtual PC and follow the instructions.

How do you remove a virtual machine from VMware player? When I looked in the help menu, It says that you can remove the title from the Library list, But the machine is still there. Do you just delete the folder that it's in? That doesn't seem the correct way to do it. I want to redo my Windows 10 preview install. Any help will be appreciated.

Yes, Just delete the folder where you have it setup and yes, it is the correct way to do it.

I've been trying to sort this out myself for a while but finally I'm still at a loss. I noticed a while back that some java applets wouldn't load and would tell me I needed to get Microsoft VM, well, I already had it installed so I figured it was just the fault of the websites because other sites worked fine with similar types of applets. Then my wife informed me that Yahoo chat gave the error. I tried several things, as well as removing it like an article in MSKB says and reinstalling it, still no good. I even tried using JVM instead of MSVM, but it is still the same. Unless someone else has any ideas, I will chalk it up to something that I have installed that is interfering with the applets loading. I came to that conclusion because several sites applets load fine, while others don't.

Anyone have any idea what might cause this?

Hi,

I have an HP laptop with Windows 7 (64 bits) installed. And I learned that Cisco VPN client is not supported for this operating system. So, I set up a virtual machine using VMPlayer (http://www.vmware.com/products/player/) and installed Windows XP Professional (32 bits). I installed Cisco VPN Client, Release 5.0.06.0110 with success.

When I tried to login into a network I got an error "Reason 442: failed to enable virtual adapter". I searched about it and found this on Cisco site (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/secu...html#wp1584552) but I'm using Windows XP Professional and could not find the way to apply the solution provided (the solution is for Windows Vista).

I understand the problem is related to IP adresses but not getting a clue how to resolve it.

Please help me out over this.

Thanks.

Hello again! I'll get right to the point:

I need a free virtual machine that has the ability to boot from a USB drive (I have Ubuntu Linux 10.04 installed on it as bootable). If there isn't is there some way I can "trick" the computer or the Virtual Machine to think my USB drive is a hard disk?
Thank you so much in advance!

A:Virtual Machine Issues

A virtual machine needs an OS to run. It can't run by itself or be booted. Yes, there are virtual machines that run from USB and host other operating systems. But they must be run inside an already booted OS.

But what, exactly, are you trying to accomplish?

Years ago, when cd players and burners were painfully slow
I used an app that emulated an optical drive on your hard
disk. It mounted a drive letter which appeared in My Computer
as a cdrom. (I can't remember the app's name!) That's the
one and only time I've used virtual software.

I've got a problem which might be resolved if I could copy
some freshly installed XP system files. Extracting them from
the installation disk won't work. I need to copy the files
after they're installed and make a few edits.

I was hoping I could create a virtual copy of XP. Installing a
"real" copy of XP just to get a few fresh system files seems
like killing a fly with a sledge hammer.

Normally, if you want to access any system file the best thing
to use is a boot disk or the Recovery Console. You can't copy,
move, or delete any locked file from within the Windows
environment. You can try with apps like Unlocker or CopyLock.
I wish these kind of apps were not available at all! The only
safe way to access a critical file is from a command prompt
before Windows starts.

The big question is, if I create a virtual XP how can I copy system
files? Even though the system is "synthetic" it's still going to act
like the real thing. You can't use a boot disk with a virtual system,
as far as I know.

The app I've looked at so far is VMware Player, only because it's
free. Is there a VM app that would behave enough like the rea... Read more

I am running Windows XP PRO 64 bit with MS Virtual Machine.
I have installed XP Pro 32 Bit.
Device manager says everything is working in XP 32 VM, but I can not connect to network or internet.

A:MS Virtual Machine can NOT see network

Hi

In virtual PC go to Edit -> Settings -> Networking
Make sure that the network card that is installed in your XP Pro 64bit is selected under Adapter1.

Then make sure your (XP Pro32bit) virtual pc's computer name is different to the XP Pro64bit computer name.

Setup TCP/IP in the Local Area Connection in the virtual PC. The IP address of the PC and the Virtual PC must be in the same range. The gateway and the DNS must be the same (This is if you use static IP addresses for your LAN)

Folks, I'm going to be accused of being a liar, an idiot, or an insane genius, but...

I installed the 8 Preview on the Oracle Virtual Machine today. When it wanted to reboot, it rebooted my entire computer, and BEFORE completing the start-up, tried to erase Windows 7 and install the 8 preview over it. I had already removed the installation disk. After five minutes of fighting, the installer gave up and spent another five minutes re-installing 7.

I have always read that a virtual machine cannot harm your computer, but that statement is not true.

A:Virtual Machine Warning

Strange. Were you using a real DVD or an ISO for the installation? If you were using a real DVD and your real PC crashed then it would boot from the DVD if that is first in your boot order.

I have perforce upgraded to W10 from W7. The routine stuff is fine - after a bit of digging around. However I have two applications I can no longer run.
Locoscript (DOS) which has an extensive English-Russian database built up over decades
Photoshop Elements (XP) - I'm accustomed to it and would like to continue with it.
I was running both under Virtual Machine on W7. I have backups of the
VSV and VMC and VHD files.
Can you suggest how I can set up for these programs?

I also have a system backup of the 7 system.

Possibilities are in order of strong preference -
- a virtual PC under W10 (where from ?)
- a W7 boot on my W10 machine, just to run the Virtual PC for these two environments;
- for the DOs unpack the VSV data and possible DOSBOX to run the program
- Get a separate box and try to reinstall W7 on it from my system backup
= other

In each case I not sure where to start. Is it possible? Any suggestions?
Please !

So I purchased a domain from No-IP.com (say, mydomain.com).

Dynamic IP from ISP
Router IP schema: 192.168.1.XXX 255.255.255.0
VM Workstation IP schema: 192.168.100.XXX 255.255.255.0 (also using NAT)

My Router is 192.168.1.1
My desktop running VM Workstation is 192.168.1.110

I have MS Server 2008 running in VM Workstation as a DC. I have DNS installed on the DC. DNS suffix for the DC is "SVRDC". (ie svrdc.mydomain.com) 192.168.100.10
I have Windows 7 running XAMPP for a web server. The DNS suffix for this is "WWW". (ie www.mydomain.com) 192.168.100.20
I have Windows 7 running an FTP server. The DNS suffix is "FTP" (ie ftp.mydomain.com) 192.168.100.30

From my desktop PC (192.168.1.110), I can ping mydomain.com, www.mydomain.com, ftp.mydomain.com and it gives me the correct Dynamic IP address from my ISP.

From my Virtual Server, I am able to ping my Router (192.168.1.1 or any other site on the Internet)

My question is: How do I get it so that if someone goes to mydomain.com, they end up at WWW.mydomain.com or FTP.mydomain.com

In hyper v, start the VM, then you have to click connect. Once that's done it should start right up for you.

Also for each VM, I recommend at least 2 cores and 2 GB Ram.

It looks like your processor does not support virtualization technology. To be sure I'm looking at the specs for the right CPU, open the start menu, right click Computer, and click properties. Under System, you should see a listing for your processor. Please tell me, yes or no, do you have the E2180? If so, your computer does not support virtualization.

I have a laptop with Vista 64 and, generally, love it. I installed 64 bit mostly for a couple of engineering applications that do, in fact, run faster and better in my opinion, partilularly AutoCAD.

However, I have the need to run some other apps that will not even load on a 64 bit system. They are dedicated applications for communicating with and programming industrial PLC's and "smart relays". There just isn't much Vista support in that niche and virtually no support for 64 bit systems. Since these applications almost always install drivers specific to the communications they do with their proprietary devices, I guess that's the problem.

There is an apparent solution though using virtual machines. If I could run XP in a virtual machine, that would probably allow me to load and use these apps. But there's a catch. I see lots of stuff on the web about limitations and problems with accessing USB or serial ports from a virtual machine.

Anybody got direct experience or expertise in this area?

A:Virtual machine options

The successor to Microsoft Virtual PC 2007, named Windows Virtual PC, is supposed to have USB support, but it's only available for Windows 7. Sun's own VirtualBox has had USB support for a while already.
I don't recall if serial ports are accessible through either of those, but you can look it up.

My current computer?s OS is Windows 8 64bit. I?ve been doing a little reading about virtual machine software. I?m not a computer geek but know just enough to be dangerous.

Basically what I would like to do is install the hard drive from my old computer into my new one. I have some old rare and no longer produced programs that ran on my old system (Vista32) that I would like to be able to use. I no longer have the disks for some of the programs and some were made by companies that are no longer in business so new install disks are not an option. (Mostly engineering programs).

I know I?d either have to upgrade to Win8 Pro to use Hyper-V, or get another program like VMware Workstation to setup a virtual machine on my new computer.

I guess my question is

Can I access on old hard drive from a VM (running VISTA) and run programs that were installed on that hard drive.?

The old hard drive is SATA so it will work in my new computer; I just want to run some of the old programs on that hard drive, at least the ones I can?t reinstall on my new computer.

Would this be possible without having a degree in Computer Science from MIT.

I?ve also been reading about dual-boots and maybe that is the way to go but seems it would be easier if I didn?t have to reboot every time I needed to use the old programs.

Right now I?m jumping between the old computer and my new one but I don?t know how much longer the old computer is going to last. It has a real hard time booting ... Read more

A:Virtual Machine Questions

It is possible to add a real HDD in a virtual machine... settings and capabilities differ from VM programs.
User has to know the options used otherwise he/she risks to loose data or format the disk by accident.

But a bit easier is to clone the HDD and create a virtual copy of it and use that in a VM.
Safe and sound since you use a copy.

Disk2Vhd:

or

Vmware Converter
VMware vCenter Converter: P2V Virtual Machine Converter - United States

Clone a host OS as a guest: physical to virtual (p2v)
