(install wizard) windows are too large

Q: (install wizard) windows are too large

I'm having some troubles with windows that are too large to choose the right button.
I've been searching over the internet and I have read things about dpi, but that's 100% in my case and so no problem. I've updated my nvidia graphic's card. I've tried to use a windows 7 fixing tool, no good result.

I'm using an external LED screen with a resolution of 1920x1080. I don't know why it suddenly had this problem... but even without this external screen, the problem shows up

I've included a screenshot of my gta 4 installing wizard (and it's not just with this installing wizard, but also java, adobe pdf...)... Hopefully the image tells you more than what I've been explaining...

thanks anyways for all your replies,

I installed Windows XP the normal way but after installing Windows XP, usually the first run will have a wizard asking me to set up my computer for the first time, asking me to create a user account, set up settings, etc. Except that wizard never showed up. After Windows XP was done installing, it took me straight to the desktop under the default administrator account. I Googled the problem but nothing of this kind showed up. the only thing that had "first start" in the name on Google was an unrelated Windows 95 virtualbox result. everything else was junk. This is a weird problem because Google doesn't even know about it.

Bios: RG84510A.86A.0033.P17

I recently tried to install Windows XP on a new Ultra ATA Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 250 GB Hard Drive and forgot about the problem with large hard drives issue (which I am educated very little about). The installation process progressed as usual in terms of formatting drive, copy files to install, etc, but upon reboot the hard drive would not boot to the Windows GUI to install windows. I thought it was a disk issue such as a scratch or something, but the install disk worked fine installing onto a 10 GB Western Digital IDE hard drive. So I guess the problem is related to the size of the hard drive and/or the Ultra
ATA issue. My bios does recognize the hard drive.

I have an Intel 845GRC Chipset. Intel's website says:

"Does the Desktop Board D845GRG support Ultra ATA/100 hard drives?
Yes. The Desktop Board D845GRG supports Ultra ATA transfer rates up to 100 MB/sec (ATA/100) by way of the ICH4 IDE controller with two independent bus-mastering IDE interfaces. An Ultra ATA/100 supported hard drive and an 80 conductor IDE cable are required to take advantage of the increased bandwidth available on the IDE channel. One of the new features of the Intel Desktop Board D845GRG is its ability to support larger ATA/100 capable hard drives with 48-bit Logical Block Addressing (LBA) within the BIOS along with all Ultra ATA transfer rates (i.e., 33 MB/sec, 66 MB/sec and 100 MB/sec). A:Windows refuses to install/run Mini Partition Wizard software ...

You'd do better to create a bootable CD rather than install and run Partition Wizard from your hard drive.

With a bootable disc, you can create and edit partitions without hindrance as you'll be booting into Partition Wizard rather than Windows.

Partition Wizard Bootable CD allows user to boot computer directly to manage partition.

I try to install games like BF2 and GRAW but when i run them they'll just quit. My Install wizard seems to time out and just stop working. I've installed games like Guitar Hero 3 but others don't work. Is it possible to reinstall install wizard? I'm up for any feedback on what to do.

A:Why doesn't my Install Wizard install Some games?

Well I'm not sure about GRAW, but I know that BF2 takes a long time to install. There were multiple times I thought it was frozen only for it to unfreeze and continue installing. And the patches are even worse and take even longer to install.

Does it give you any error message? You can repair the Windows Installer, but I do not know if it applies to the games you listed above.

Yeah this is a weird one. I did a system refresh a week ago and did all the updates, now anytime I try to install a program the install wizard pulls it up in Simplified Chinese, and then the program is fully installed in that language. Rendering it, for all practical purpose, absolutely useless to me. I've checked all my regional settings, I did have a multi-language pack installed prior to the refresh, but I've confirmed that English is set to primary language. I even removed the other language (which was actually Japanese btw). I went through all the options and settings in Region and Language and I couldn't see anything wrong. I have all the updates and security patches, the only thing I can think of is some setting or configuration I'm missing. Anyone want to take a crack at this? Any help is greatly appreciated as we, essentially, cannot load anything on our computer at this point.

Mrs J

A:Install Wizard will only install in Simplified Chinese?

Well looks like no one has a fix for this issue... Even the Microsoft techs were baffled. I went ahead with a clean re-install, because Repair, and refresh didn't fix the problem. The problem is gone now...

I removed all the previously installed software and such from the card that would not work and deleted the folder. How do I delete these other Items that seem to still be in there? I download the trial version and all worked fine. Uninstall the trial and even restored the computer to the day before, no luck. Went to cyberlink and purchased another copy of the software. This copy won't even install to the point to enter the code key. Tried safe mode, no go. Emailed cyberlink andthe gave me a link to redownload with new key ...still no install. Any idea what I can do to get this program installed onto her computer.

A:Install Wizard Not Launching!

You must have disabled auto-run feature for removable drives. To enable autorun :1. Right click on your CD-ROM driver icon in My Computer, select Properties2. Choose Autoplay tab by clicking on it3. Select option Prompt me each time to choose an actionIf that does not work you may have to make changes to your registry. You should make backup of Windows Registry using a tool like ERUNT. In case of any erroneous changes made, you can always restore your registry from the backup. To enable Windows' default CD-ROM autorun behavior using registry :1. Open command prompt window from Start Menu > Run, typing cmd and pressing Enter2. Copy/paste the following in the command prompt window, exactly as shown and press Enter. (to paste in command prompt window, right-click on it and choose Paste) : REG ADD "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer" /v NoDriveTypeAutoRun /t REG_DWORD /d 0x91 /f3. A:install wizard problem

Why don't you install and run Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy followed by Hijack This, then post a scan log for the experts to take a look at.

Go here:
and download Ad-Aware 6 Build 181

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right-hand corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest reference files.

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------ON=GREEN

From main window: Click Start then Activate in-depth scan (recommended)

Click Use custom scanning options then click Customize and have these options selected: Under Drives and Folders put a check by Scan within archives and below that under Memory and Registry put a check by all the options there.

Now click on the Tweak button in that same window. Under Scanning engine select Unload recognized processes during scanning and under Cleaning Engine select Let windows remove files in use at next reboot

Click proceed to save your settings.

Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

Restart your computer

Download and run: SPYBOT SEARCH & DESTROY, here:

Open Spybot Search & Destroy (Click Start, Programs, Spybot S&D (Advanced Mode). Click online, Search for updates, D... Read more

Hi I am new here.

I have already posted this problem on other forum but I am getting nowhere with it.

This is a really weird problem. If I tried to open Add/Remove in Control Panel, Yahoo's messenger install wizard pops up instead of the usual add/remove programs. And right-click on My Computer will prompt it as well!

I have tried everything, removing every yahoo entry in Registry and even deleted user/internet/windows temp folders yet it still come back! Even tried Ccleaner, regseeker, you name it...

If I went go ahead and installed it, the problem is still there.

Also on Rev Uninstaller, I tried hunter mode and it pointed to a file inside temp folder. I have already deleted it in safe mode and it still come back! It is driving me mad!

I suspect that Add/Remove programs and System Properties have short-cut to a small Yahoo installer file. I don't know how Yahoo does that.

A:Yahoo's install wizard...can't get rid of it!

If you've deleted all Yahoo reg entries and files...there's no way it can reappear.

You mention all those "instant registry fixes", but have you tried a manual search of the registy, using regedit...and a manual search of your system, using Start/Search and "yahoo"?

Do you have any Yahoo programs installed?

Have you tried running chkdsk /r to straighten out your file structure?

A:Install Shield Wizard Error

Hiya billc7684.

Is the program on a CD or is it a downloaded program? If it`s a download, try downloading it again especially if it`s quite a big one as I`ve known downloads to pick up some corruption due to an intermittent server output or more likely, an intermittent incoming signal.

If it`s on a CD, make sure it`s nice and clean and if it`s a manufacturers CD, ask them if they`ll replace it for you.

I installed another program as a test and the install shield wizard worked fine. So why won't it work with this particular program?? Thanks

A:Problem With Install Shield Wizard

It may just be a bad dowload. Try downloading the program again and then reinstall.

This can also occur if you have an older version of the program already installed. Uninstall the old one before installing the new one.

Another thing you can try is rolling back from IE7 to IE6 and then reinstall.

Are you logged in as Administrator while trying to install?

Maybe try installing in safe mode.

I received a prompt to install a newer version of Java (6.24), and decided to remove the one I had already (6.23) previous to the installation. I then proceeded to run the exe file for the new one, and got an error message, saying that the installation could not complete because the wizard was interrupted. I tried again, several times. I could not restore the previous version, since I had gotten rid of it. Then, I tried using downloading and installing the "JRE", instead, and it also came up with an error message, saying the "gdiplus.dll" was not found in the path specified, and gave a bunch of paths. I then did a search for this dll, and found it in two places, one related to NET framework, and the other related to OFFICE.I googled the problem, and one site said to go to a specific place to download the file and install it. Another site said not to do that, since problems often arise from downloaded dll's, and it should be replaced from the original source.I'm running windows2000Pro, and do not have my CD, but I do have a CD for Win2K Server. Can I use this CD instead of the W2KPro CD to run SFC, to find the file?Thanks.P.S.,,the file should be in the Win32 folder, from what I've read. Can I just copy the dll from one of the other locations?

Does anyone know anything about this installer available from this site:

Does anyone have this on their machine and if so, has it caused any problems for you.

Why does it install right off without having to download, more importantly is it SPYWARE of any kind.

Cheers for any info on this.

A:Install Shield Digital Wizard

This is a dialer of some type. The reason why it installs straight away is that you have it set up this way. Try this:

Tools | internet Options. Click on Advanced tab. Under Browser, look for Enable Instal on Demand. Uncheck this, apply.

Now, whenever you go surfing and something, like a plugin or installer, tries to download, you will get a popup box.

Hi all
just a tip if you are installing as a vm on vmware.

Select W7 as the operating system and choose I WILL INSTALL THE OS LATER.

Don't use the easy create guest OS wizard in this case.

If you don't do this the install will fail with Unable to read product key from setup xml script.

Create the VM with just the disk and then BOOT from the ISO when powering on the newly created VM.

The process is then pretty much the same as for W7 and you won't get asked for a product key.

I apologize in advance about the length of this post.

I currently have Yahoo Messenger installed on my wife's laptop (Win XP Home). However, every time the computer is restarted, the installation wizard screen of Messenger comes up. Clicking the "cancel" button will exit the program, but it still comes back every time. Clicking the "next" button causes installation to begin and it re-installs correctly. (But, to be clear, this program is already installed on the computer when the install wizard pops up.)

Being tired of having this install wizard pop up all the time, I went to Control Panel to "add remove programs" with the intent of permanently uninstalling it. However, to my dismay, clicking on add/remove also caused the wizard to pop up. I started trying other icons in the control panel and found that about half of them caused the install wizard to pop up (including "display", "system" and my logitech camera controls). Once the install wizard comes up and I cancel out of it (or complete the install), I am still unable to open any of these essential functions on the computer because it pops up again. Yahoo Messenger install wizard has essentially taken over my computer.

Here's what I've done to try to fix this so far, all to no avail:

-uninstall Messenger from the "Program Files/Yahoo/Messenger/UNWISE" program - no luck and no luck after a clean install
-manually delete the entire Messenger and/or... Read more

A:Yahoo messenger install wizard has taken over my computer.

You need to find out the name of the *.msi file that is used to install yahoo messenger. Once you find this out, then run regedit, search for the *.msi file used to install it, and delete the references to it. Then reinstall messenger once more. This will fix the registry settings and allow you to add/remove it like it was supposed to.

Be careful editing the registry, create a backup of the registry before starting in case something goes wrong.

You may be able to find out the filename of the *.msi file by doing a registry search for yahoo and noting the values, or the *.msi file may be in the yahoo messenger folder.

As many of you know, there are moments when you are attempting to download something and there ends up being some pesky pop-up window that blocks you from obtaining the item you are after. If you have managed to figure out how to use the inspect element feature on your computer, then you are aware that there are routes around that pop-up that so annoyingly blocks you. My question is kind of along those same lines. If I have downloaded an app/software/program's install wizard and installed that app/software just to confront a similar blockade, then is there a similar tactic like using the inspect element feature or maybe even another suggested app/software/program (that doesn't have or end up similar as to what I have described) that I am able to use and to conduct an inspection on an app/software/program's install wizard's elements to remove that unwanted portion of the install? Therefore, ultimately only installing the intended downloaded app/software/program. Make sense?

I have a Dlink Cloud surveillance camera. The software that came with it to set it up won't run on my laptop running WINXP. I get an I/0 device error. However, I know the CD drive works because I can run my other CD's on it. What's up with this? How can I get this software to install and run?

A:Why won't Dlink DCS930l Software Wizard CD install?

The I/O device error is most likely letting you know the software or drivers are not compatible with XP, not a problem reading the disc. Is the software made to run on XP? XP is pretty old and the software may not work on it.Edit, It looks like most of their products work with XP but check your specs anyway. Also you need yo have IE7 installed so if your still using IE6, you need to upgrade.message edited by THX 1138

A:The Install Wizard Will Complete The Suspended Installation Of A Feature

<<The highlighted volumes do not have enough disk space available for the currently selected features. You can remove files from the highlighted volumes, choose to install less features onto local drives, or select different destination drives.>>

I suspect that this is the reason for the failed install, insufficient space on the hard drive.

I also suspect that the install will proceed normally if you move sufficient files from the hard drive to another partition, DVD, whatever.

So the first thing I would suggest is disk cleanup, emptying the Recycle Bin, removal of all unnecessary data files, and moving all video, graphics, text, and word files to another location.

How many partitions or hard drives do you have and how much free space is on each?

I've never had a failed install (other than RC2 of XP SP3) which did not immediately spell out what the problem might be.

Rather than using the "Easy Install Wizard Disk", I used the web based "Alternate Setup Method" to install my Belkin wireless router with 3 wired and one wireless.

The setup went ok. Workgroups each have 2 folders (1 Printers & Faxes, and 2 Sched Tasks) Is there a way of draging a shared folder to the workgroup OR

My question is....Should I still run the Network Setup Wizard if I want to share docs? Seems like the Belkin Manual would mention to do this, instead of saying "Congrats....You're Networked!" ????????

All advice is appreciated. Thanks

A:Network Setup Wizard. Should I install it? Quick&EZ Ans Wanted

The router is not sharing documents. All the Belkin does, is letting your computers communicate and that obviously works.

Sharing documents is something that Windows does and you have to use Windows to set that up. Since you are seeing other computers (printers and tasks), then all you have to do is share a folder on a computer to make it visible to others. Right click, sharing..

No, the Belkin wizard will not help you in this.

Since then, I did all available updates including the SP3 thinking that some new update would remove this annoying problem but it didn't. My XP is up to date but with this problem.

Secondly, I was never able to update IE6 to IE7 or IE8, tried several times, even tried disabling the commodo firewall and trying. No use. Same problem with Office 2007 SP2. Can someone help?

That may have been your undoing . . Registry cleaning rarely does anything good and often harms the system.

Did a clean install of Win 8.1 Pro x64 on a desktop i7-2660K machine a week ago. Since then, there's been a problem that didn't exist before the clean install, namely web page loading is very slow while downloading large files, a few hundred mb to a few gb. Pause the downloads and pages load normally. Before the install, the page file was set to system managed size. System drive is fast Plextor SSD and RAM is 16gb. I've now tried 32gb max and still slowness. Not sure where to turn on this. This is a relatively fast cable system (Charter), with line to the computer through an Linksys E1200 router (for wireless laptop). Any ideas? One thing I hadn't done yet is reinstall the router on the desktop, but I just did that and it makes no difference. Is that necessary? Thanks,

A:Slow web when downloading large files after clean install

I'm interested in any responses to this as well, because in my opinion Microsoft screwed it up.

I'm not sure when they changed it, but I noticed they changed this quite a while back. The change they made seems to give full bandwidth to the first thing you start downloading, but as you've discovered it's a nightmare like this because it means you can't do anything internet related until the download has finished. In the case of a large download, that's frustratingly limiting.

How it was before, Windows seemed to balance the load so you could have something downloading in the background, but still carry on with other things on the internet. How it is now, the second thing you try to access on the internet will usually result in a timed out error and if doesn't it's so incredibly slow that it's unusable.

It's not just with file downloads either, if you've got a heavy loading webpage, you can't just leave it loading that page and go view another webpage, because the first webpage sucks all the bandwidth to itself . Also, if you click a link on a heavy loading webpage, it won't do anything due to the webpage sucking all the bandwidth. So you either have to wait for the whole page to load first, or you have to open the link in a new tab, then close the heavy loading webpage tab.

I don't know what they were thinking to be honest because it's pretty bad as it is now. Maybe on a super-fast Microsoft LAN they don't notice how bad it is, but in the real world the changes t... Read more

My client's computer was infected with a virus obtained via Facebook. I removed this and multiple other infections (and I'm pretty thorough with my scanning). She gets it back, starts working on it, and apparently her devices and printers icons are blank. Not missing, like with a "blank page" icon, just... blank. Here's the kicker: it only happens with large and extra large icons. It also happens with normal folder icons. When I change it to medium or lower, they come back. I've tried rebuilding the icon cache database several times, tried sfc /scannow, tried chkdsk, tried uninstalling any recent updates, etc... There have been no hardware changes, the hard drive has been tested as good (no bad sectors), her dual monitors are at a sane resolution, and I'm confident that the viruses has been removed. Lexmark E210 printer. Works fine and has back through early days of XP. XP Pro fully patched now running.

When SP2 was installed (the day it came out), began getting (on every boot) a window advising me that I needed to install sw for my printer. My presumption is this is caused by an unregistered (but working fine) driver that SP2 suddenly doesn't like and no way is Lexmark going to rewrite it or register it for a printer so old.

Tried all combinations of power on and off at boot, deinstalling printer, reinstalling printer, etc.

If I just hit cancel in the install sw window that the printer wizard brings up on boot all if fine but it is a PITA and I'd like to get rid of the prompt.

No similar request for installation of a Epson printer.

Both printers USB 1 connected.

Is there some bit in the registry I can set to ignore the fact that the driver is unregistered? Other ideas?

A:Printer Wizard Insists I Install Sw For A Printer That Works

The problem with Windows XP is that a lot of hardware and software no longer works with it. Now that SP2 is out there is more. The only suggestion that I have is to try running the printer under Windows 98 compatibility mode and see if that works. If that does not then I would suggest purchasing a new printer even though this one works after a fashion.

I am using a WD Passport 1TB portable disk for a backup device, which I know works OK because I have backed up my other computer using Windows 7 along with some special files for controlling my sewing machines.

ok is the backup device you're using being recognised at all. Have you tried leaving the device in the computer and restarting the computer, sometimes this can find the device. If not try this link seems some have had a similar issue.

I'd consider that good luck, but if you really want to use it see How to Use Windows Easy Transfer to Migrate to a Windows 8 PC.

there is no run option in the start menuClick to expand...

There is in the Quick Access Menu (<Windows logo key> + x to get to it). And if you just type run while on the Start Screen you will probably find it. Also, as in other versions of Windows, <Windows logo key> + r is the quick way to get to the Run box.

Just a quick question, has anyone used Win trans wiz? I am thinking I need to upgrade to Win 7 asap as I have never manager to get the wireless driver working without long latency issues. I am thinking I should use the transfer wiz to keep my emails etc etc. Does this work or do I need to make sure I do a secure backup of everything first?
Obviously a full backup would take all the crap I do not want but I am a subscribed to full backups as they are the way forward but this time I do not want to take any vista bits out and move them accross.

All of a sudden, well, for the past few months really but I have been procrastinating looking for a fix, the Installation or Uninstalation of a game, software, anything is taking forever to finish.

I don't get an error, thank God, but I can start it, go outside smoke a pack of cigarettes and when I come back it is still working on doing it... this is true for both Install or Uninstall.

It does not freeze or lock and it does not gives me an error or BSOD... it just takes forever to complete the task.

I have google it a few times but I end up with almost similar issues as mine but they all have errors so even though I try those suggestions nothing happens on my side.

I have a funny feeling the result will be that I have to do a fresh install, hence the procrastination on my part, but I am hoping that there will be a last shot I can do here.
EDIT: WOW, I knew I had posted something like this before but I couldn't find it in the search option and as soon as I finished posting this I went to google for one last shot and guess what I found on the first try? yep... my old post.
Sorry for it
My Windows Installer Wizard is super slow...

Double WOW because I thought it only had been a few months and it seems that this has been going on for over a year now, perhaps why I don't install much on this pc now. Oh and I did what was recommended by A Guy but it did not work at all for my issue

My apologies for the double post

Hello there,

I do not know if my problem is a hardware issue or software issue ?

Anyway here goes,

I tried to burn a CD earlier this evening on my PC
(Something I have done many times before)

For some reason I cannot do it this time.

I will run through what I did !

As usual I right clicked on the Word document that I wanted to write onto CD.
I then clicked on send to

Now usually a bunch of choices will show up, including D Drive, (which is my optical DVD/CD drive)

Then normally a little bubble would show up next to the system clock.
The bubble would say you have files waiting to be written to CD
So normally when I go in to my D. Drive there would be a little list of the left and one of the options would be to write the file to the CD.
On clicking it a Windows wizard would open up and would take me through the rest of the process.
Now however, on right clicking the appropriate file & then clicking on Send to
This time the D. drive isnt there in the list.

When I click on the My Computer icon and double-click on the D. drive
(My optical drive)
It comes up with a box that says:

D:\ is not accessible. Invalid access to memory location

Interestingly, the optical drive seems to be unaffected with regards to watching, reading, and copying, DVD Disks as well as CDs using some non Windows software called: Intervideo Launcher.
This software seems to work fine.

Another thing I tried was writing a few Word files to a CD using the Intervideo... Read more

The Windows XP burning software isn't very reliable, do have some other burning software?

If not try DeepBurner which is good freeware burning application. You'll find most other burning software works much better than Windows.

I've backed up my entire hard drive and made an ASR floppy disk. I'm trying to copy the .bkp file located on my hard drive to flash drive but it keeps saying there's not enough memory. The .bkp file is 4.65 gig and my memory stick is 8 gig. I also have an enclosure kit that has my old computers hard drive in it with about 7 gig of free memory and I'm also getting a message that there's not enough memory when I try to copy it. All I'm trying to do is get a .bkp file to external media so if I ever have to reinstall windows XP I could restore all my programs and settings. Am I going about this the right way?

A:Windows XP Backup Wizard

If the flash drive is formatted as FAT32 (most are) then 4GB is the max file size you can store on it.

A:Where is the Windows Scanner Wizard?

Have you tried using the Start Search?

Select the Start button and at the bottom of the menu, you will see the Start Search pane. Type in scan and see what appears on the list.

You should see Scanners and Cameras, then select it and follow the instructions.

I wanted to upgrade to win 7 from xp So I thought I was smart and used the windows transfer wizard. I sent everything to a external HDD .Loaded win 7home. now I want to edit the stuff I send back. Can I explore the external HDD and pick stuff out. I am away from my puter for theweek so i thought I would ask so I would be good to go when I get home

A:windows transfer wizard

You can't simply browse the file it creates and drag and drop your files, but you can selectively choose which files you restore.

After installing Win 7 rerun the transfer tool and select "this is my new computer". After selecting your transfer file, you can go into and select each users files by clicking on Custom, then advanced. Don't forget to do the same with the "Shared user", the shared user has files that can affect all the other users.

I am currently trying to make a copy of the files on my laptop to an external drive but after 1 Gb of data is transferred the status box when copying stops and doesn't seem to be copying over any further files. When I try to cancel the process it does not register that I have pressed cancel and I have to shut off my laptop manually, waiting a few seconds before turning it back on.

I have uninstalled avast believing that it might be causing an issue with the transfer but the result is still the same.

Recently after a failed attempt it has rendered my hard drive back to an ntfs unreadable state due to error code 0x80070570 .

Any help to resolve either issue would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

A:Windows 7: Windows 7 stalling during copying of large files to externa

What is the external HD? How old is it? When was it formatted etc..

In any case I would run a diagnostic on the external drive.
Also try a copying utility such as TeraCopy free version and see if it has similar problems(once the external drive is returned to a normal state or using another drive.)

Has anyone noticed while using the Windows Scan and Print Wizard that the default scanning size on a WinXP machine is set to Legal size paper? We do a lot of scanning at some of our offices with electronic health records and the like, and having to change the scanning size every time we scan a document can really add up. We opted to write instructions for these offices to use the Windows scan feature just because it will work on any workstation, and not require the proprietary scanner software to be installed.

Does anyone know how to change the default scanning size in Windows?

A:Windows Scanner Wizard Defaults

NO ... Mine defaults to standard size .. probably because I have a standard size scanner.
Are these scanners Legal size or Standard size ??

2 Weeks ago, I installed Widows Fax capability using this wizard, BUT, I had to use my XP install disk in order to do it. All the necessary files should be somewhere on my HDD, right? They were not!
How can I check for any missing files and/or fix this condition?
Thanks in advance.

A:Windows Components Wizard:WEIRD!

You would in most cases need your XP CD top install them as they're not installed on your system. If you have 0.0MB next to them, then it means they're already installed on your system.

The components available should be:

? Accessories and Utilities
? Fax Service
? Indexing Service
? Internet Explorer
? Internet Information Services (IIS)
? Management and Monitoring Tools
? Message Queuing
? MSN Explorer
? Networking Services
? Other Network File and Print Services
? Update Root Certificates

Internet Information Services (IIS) and Message Queuing are not included in Windows XP Home Edition.

I am a newbie to posting on Bleeping Computer. I have browsed the site for a while but found solutions to my computer issues through the posting of others.

This morning I originally posted most of my problem below on the Networking forum. But the more I think about it I am wondering whether this is more of a Windows XP issue. I apologize if that is not the case. If someone would be so kind, please read what I have posted below with an eye to the possiblity that I have damaged some Windows XP files and the best way to approach that.

I have a home network of 4 computers. The lead computer is directly connected to my cable modem through a network card. The other 3 share its internet connection by plugging into a hub/switch (don't know the proper term). The internet sharing stopped working after the lead computer was infected with viruses. I have cleaned up the virus problem but cannot get the shared internet connection going again. And the lead computer can no longer view the other computers on the network (no can the lead computer be seen by the others). The lead computer is on Windows XP Home Edtion. All the others are either on XP Home or Media editions.

When I try to re-establish the network on the Lead Computer with the Network Set-up Wizard, the Wizard takes my input (and I am pretty sure I am inputting correctly) but sends a failure message at the end. It says to retry inputting the Wizard differently or configure the network manually. When I look at the network... Read more

Has anyone ever successfully used the F.A.S.T Wizard? I have tried several of the suggested methods. What I am trying to do is transfer the steup of this (notebook) computer without a floppy drive (running XP Pro) to the newly recovered desktop with a floppy drive(running XP Pro). I have the setup (recovery) disk for each computer and have had no success. Anyone?

It sure would make things easier!

Hi sudsy -From this article it seems that you can use a USB Thumb Drive and not just a Floppy - Hope this helps -The only safe way to use F.A.S.T. today is to make a Wizard Floppy or USB Thumb Drive Disk (Note it is an older article from the way it is written) from the new computer with the above latest version installed.A reader of this article named Ray suggested the following to determine which version of F.A.S.T. you are using: Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\usmt\, right click on the file migwiz.exe, and select Properties.

I have a strange problem with the photo printing wizard in XP. I can start
the wizard and select the images that I want to print. But when I get to the
screen that shows the preview and let's you select various print sizes, I see
a blank screen. There is no preview and no options for size selections.
When I click next the wizard will print a full page image (This would have
been the default choice).
I do not know what the problem could be. Maybe a registry error or a file
error? I am not sure which file(s) I should try to restore. BTW, I am using
Service Pack 2.

Any suggestions would be a great help

This is a rework of an message posted a couple of months ago which was unanswered so I thought it okay to repost.
In Windows XP, the Wizard no longer pops up to ask me what I want to do when a camera or other device, such as a flash drive containing photos, is connected.
This follows an installation and removal of a program called Finepix. I reinstalled the program and the Finepix program pops up upon connection, but this is not a program I wish to use and it does not help with other devices. Finepix, however, may not be the problem -- I may have simply made a mistake somewhere.
After removing Finepix again, I can still view the contents of my camera, but only when I use My Computer to navigate to that drive. This is not helpful because I want to re-enable the Windows interface (Wizard) that I had previously, so that it pops up automatically when the camera is connected.
I have changed the properties of the drive, eg E:\ Finepix, Properties etc, but the option, Copy these files... is not available and if I choose Open Folder... and a camera is subsequently attached, there is still no Wizard. Thanks for any suggestions you can offer.

I am looking for a way to configure a Windows image, that is installed via a wizard.. with a standard basic programs.. and optional others.. and the most important, and a prompt in the wizard to specify computer name..

To make it more clear:
Operating System: Windows7 Ultimate SP1 32-Bit
Applications that are always installed: Acrobat reader, Winrar, Java Runtime, Flash Player, Microsoft Intune.. etc
Applications am prompted to install during wizard: CCleaner, Teamviewer,... etc
and a step in the wizard SHOULD include computer name
What program would be my best bet?

A:Creating a wizard based Windows ima

This is not a simple process. You need to read up on the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) as you will have to install that in order to create the ISO file used to deploy Win7.

You will also have to deal with Activation on each of the deployed machines, as (unless you are dealing with a legitimate VLK here), you will need a separate key for each machine installed.

And finally, this does not yield the "wizard" you want -- but there may be post-deployment options available in MDT 2010 that you can use to achieve this.

Also ... there are other ways of accomplishing deployment including Sysprep, but they too require a lot of work.

Today, I went to scan a document and I was only allowed to use one of 2 programs (muvee producer or picassa2), neither of which even opened to complete the scan. I have searched the computer, with no luck, trying to locate the scan wizard and reset it to default.
I was able to find the scanners and cameras section in the control panel, but it doesn't seem to allow me to add or locate any additional software to use for my scans.
