HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook Driver Compatibility Issues

Q: HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook Driver Compatibility Issues

Alrighty! Here goes!

I've been searching online for five hours looking for fixes for this. I recently replaced the Windows 8 on this Notebook with Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Edition because, simply put, I bloody hate Windows 8.

This has become problematic for me because it appears that there are no compatible drivers that pair Windows 7 and this device's hardware.

I posted in Yahoo Answers about an hour and ten minutes ago and I'm incredibly frustrated with the results (go figure). A link to that question, in case I forget any information I mentioned there: Downgrading to Windows 7 with HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook? - Yahoo! Answers

The product information page for the HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook is located here: HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook PC Product Specifications HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook PC | HP? Support

I have several drivers that are "Out of date." The main one that I'm worried about is the Graphics/Display driver. On the HP website, the device is listed as: Intel HD graphics 3000 with up to 1696MB total graphics memory.

I've tried installing the Windows 8 drivers (which do nothing) and I have also tried updating my drivers through Windows Update. I've also visited HP's driver site, Intel's, and even NVidia, I believe, all to no avail.

I'm hoping that an informed someone can tell me whether or not there are drivers for my graphics chip, and if there are, where I can find them and how I can install them in working order.

Thank you so much for any help! I realize that this is my first post on this forum and that I should have some contributions before making such a request, but I'm really out of options here. I don't want to go back to Windows 8.

If you require more information, please let me know and I will do my best to provide it.

Ah, and before someone tells me to convert to Linux... I use Windows only because I like my video games and my .exe files, and I'm used to Windows.

Thanks again for your understanding and assistance.

Ok so I recently updated to Windows 10 but now when I connect my laptop to my external monitor the laptop screen doesn't show up on the external monitor.

My laptop's screen is broken so I can't see anything. The laptop is still on the screen immediately after updating so I could blindly work my way through the update screens, but someone would have to upload pictures of the screens immediately after updating to Windows 10.

Thank you for whoever helps!!!!

Dear everyone, To not waste anyone's time I'll try to formulate my question as clear and direct as possible. Additional information that may be important will then be given. In short my question is the following: Is my particular system (HP Elitebook 8570w Mobile Work station, a notebook) compatible with the NVIDIA  Quadro K1000M driver for Linux (x64)?     The following background information may be useful to see where I'm coming from and to be able to answer my question. Background info:In the past I have installed Linux Ubuntu next to the pre-installed Windows 7 on this machine. Everything worked well except for the video card (dragging windows around the screen wasn't smooth which is very irritating). I assumed that I had to install the correct driver for the video card which is also compatible with Linux. Having done a little searching on the internet I tried both a `default' Linux driver as well as a driver form NVIDIA that was supposed to work with a Linux (x64) system. However the problem was not solved and actually became worse as time progessed. Finally I abandoned the Linux system and went back to Windows altoghether.  Now I want to give it another try so I have looked up the driver that is supposed to work with my video card and a Linux (x64) system.  At the tab `additional information' however it says the following: Note that the list of supported GPU products is provided to... I recently got a Cannon Bubble Jet BJ-100 Printer and it won't print. I've gone to Cannon's Support Site and they only offer one download, and it's not for Windows 2000. I have been to Windows Support Site and have gone thru numerous pages and menu's leading nowhere. First, I did find out that this printer isn't on the Windows 2000 list, so what do I do now? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help

I am trying to help a friend here who get this following message at start-up.

This driver is blocked due to compatibility issues.
Driver: DirectCD
Publisher: Roxio, Inc.
The OS is Vista 32bit.

Currently on this machine, it looks like she has upgraded to Roxio Creator 10. Is the DirectCD driver even needed anymore? I can't find it in start-up or add/remove programs. How do I get this message to turn off? I tried running a patch from Roxio and it said she didnt even have the DirectCD software on her computer anymore.

I even connected it through an Ethernet cable and nothing happened. I clicked on the troubleshoot link and windows network diagnostics and it says to Install a driver for your network adapter. Windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter. If you have a network adapter, you will need to re-install the driver. I tried to reinstall the operating system and nothing change. I bought my PC a year ago, with preinstalled windows 8.1. Shortly after in September, I updated it to windows 10 and by December  had all kinds of driver errors which - a year later - have yet to be resolved. The drivers crash and recover constantly, there are DirectX errors when I attempt to play games, and AMD settings and other features are inaccessible to me as it states there are no graphics drivers installed/they are faulty (which only occured after around christmas). At first I decided it was a windows 10 problem as it was new, but it's not the case.In the year, I have;Been in contact with windows support and followed all instructions/provided all info. They were lost for a solution.Been in contact with EA games support. Same story.Been in contact with AMD which state that due to my dual graphics, the drivers were changed by HP to accomodate the laptop and I'm to recieve them from HP. HP website drivers for my laptop don't work either, and my warranty has expired so I cannot contact them for support.Uninstalled and reinstalled countless drivers, backdated, tried and re-tried.Reinstalled operating system.Tried AMD auto-detect drivers, which are compatible with my dedicated GPU but not the older GPU so won't install.  Nothing works. Hi.  I have a:HP Pavilion g4-1125dx Notebook PCModel #: LW342UA When it was upgraded to windows 10 i lost all USB functionality.  The device manager is using a driver but it isn't functioning properly.  'Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller' and 'Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller' have the yellow exclaimation point with USB symbol next to them.  Under properties it reads: Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39){Unable to Load Device Driver}%hs device driver could not be loaded.Error Status was 0x%x When i try to roll back the driver nothing is available.  When i try to update it says i already have the best driver.  I tried windows update and the Driver Easy software but no luck there. I confirmed that i do infact have power getting to the ports (via usb fan :/) so i don't believe it is a hardware problem, especially since it was working prior to upgrade. I know its an older laptop but I Upgraded the CPU to a Phenom II N970 quad core and the darn thing runs so good i hate to give up on her.  Ethernet and Wireless are working properly and there are no other troubled hardware issues. Thanks in advance,Cory

I have tried every single driver etc and windows still tells me that I cannot not install the drivers because there is no VGA graphics card installed. Also I was wondering if there is any drivers for the chipset etc so I am able hibernate and other things.

I have a program that will run on all flavors of windows however a protocol that attaches to the nic will only run in 2000. Is there a way I could install or run this protocol in compatibility mode? The protocol is LAT and is for a terminal emulator that connects to an old mainframe. Ideally if I had a copy of Pathworks32 v7.4 I could run it on XP. The question is however can I install and run the LAT on compatiblity mode and have it work?

A:compatibility w/ 2000 pro

Doing a little DEC stuff huh? I haven't anyone talk about LAT in years. I didn't think it was still around. Wow...

Anyway. LAT is a protocol and I very much doubt you could run it the way you want. You may want to look at running Pathworks under Virtual PC mode since you have W7 Ultimate.

Yeah, I'm running Office 2000 (Pro) .

I'm currently running Windows XP but am planning to upgrade (with a new computer) to Windows 7 this year. My big problem is whether or not my Office will work. I have seen for myself that it works in Vista, but Microsoft's database says that Office 2000 doesn't work in 7.

Two questions:

a) Will it work in XP Compatibility mode?
b) If not, will it work with Windows XP Mode?

Thanks,
Wasila

A:2000 Backwards Compatibility

Not sure who is having a problem with MS Office 2000 in Win 7, albeit I have been using it with my laptop which is running on Win 7 32 bit.

A) yes
B) yes

After reading your post I loaded up Office 2000 into XP mode and it worked just fine. Also, loaded up in VMware's Workstation running XP and it worked without any problems.

Hope this helps, and BTW "Welcome to the Seven Forums."

Now if you can still download MS Office 2010 beta I would recommend that you do, and test it out, it is an excellent upgrade to 2007, 2003, and 2000. There is a compatibility mode so you can convert either forward or backwards.

I have been an ACT user since it was developed by Symantec!

Last upgrade was to ACT 2000, and have not felt any need to upgrade (with the ridiculous price tag!). I operate a microbusiness, and the old version almost does everything I need it to do.

Here is one "wish for". I use Thunderbird as my e-mail client, and I have to go through cut & paste or rewrite e-mails to recipients. ACT will launch the two versions of Outlook and a "cc Mail" or "internet mail" option.

Can I configure ACT 2000 to launch a Thunderbird e-mail compose message?

If so, how?

The selective editing was put in the 2003 version and is incompatible from what I have seen with the 2000 version. Maybe one of our VBA experts knows how to lock the Header/Footer.

I'm one of the elderly members of this community who hates to change platforms without good reason.

Office 2000 is familiar and does most of what I want to do. I'm finding that running it in compatibility mode under Windows 7 Professional x64 is problematic. Most of my problems appear to come from Word documents containing images, often copied and pasted from the web directly. Word stops responding. It can only be restored by a hard reboot which is a PITA. It seems that if both Excel and Word are open, both are reported by Task Manager as 'not responding,' and that is the end of the session. If anything, the problem seems to have gotten worse recently. Could it be an enhancement to the operating system that is just, by chance, causing this problem?

Does anyone have any fixes?

Thanks,

baumgrenze

Bought an XPS 8900 from Best Buy May 2016. Used as stock config since then as a home CAD machine.
I think it came stock with a GeoForce 730, maybe ?
Had it hooked up to a single Dell monitor via the DVI cable.
I took an NVidia Quadro 2000 2GB video card from an older XPS 8700 that I had installed it in and had been running fine, plug and play, and removed the GeoForce 730 from my new XPS 8900 and installed the Quadro 2000 in the new 8900, expecting no problems.
The Quadro has DVI out and two (2) Displayport out. I tried the DVI, no luck. The tried the Displayport, still no luck. Monitor is asleep, does not respond.
I know this card is a little older, but I am not sure why it would not be supported on the 8900, when I just plug and played it on the 8700, no problem?????
is the NVidia Quadro 2000 not supported for some reason? why?
Is there any way I can make this work ont he XPS 8900?

A:HP 2000 Notebook PC

Dee33 If you did the Win10 Upgrade and are now trying to revert back to Wion8, I have some bad news for you. While Microsoft tells you that there is no risk in the Win10 Upgrade, because they let you believe that you can always revert back to your original OS and setup within 30 days, the ugly fact of the matter is that the Win10 GoBack function has proven to be unreliable -- and when it fails, it can leave machines in a corrupted state -- which doesn't always happen, but it does happen often enough to be a problem and you won't get any warning in advance that it is going to trash your PC!The Win10 Upgrade is know, in some cases, to corrupt the Recovery partition stored there by the OEM that built the original machine.  This pretty much guarantees that no HP Recovery is going to work. So, any attempt to use F11 to do a restore is doomed to failure. Are you trying to use the Recovery Disks, by booting from the first one, and they are not working? If so, what is happening when you try to use them? We can proceed once you provide the information. Thanks

Try this link to find your chipset driver:

A:Getting a new hp notebook. 1500-2000 budget. Need some help :)

Hey Zizou I am actually in the exact same boat as you right now. I'm looking for a sub 2k notebook. Here are a few things you might find useful that I did:

The Centrino's have just gone through a yearly hardware refresh called Santa Rosa. Since these are brand new Centrino's not all the notebooks that will use them are avaliable yet. By around the end of June though, they should all be pretty much on the market. I'd really suggest waiting until at least then before you upgrade.

Now the mods here may kill me for this, but I found notebookreview.com and specifically their What notebook should I buy? section to be very helpful.

Personally I'm leaning towards getting a Compal IFL90 barebones and customizing it with powernotebooks.com. Here's the deal i was able to get on their site:

Merry Christmas

I hope someone can help. I have a copy of win2000 upgrade that I used to upgrade a brand new HP notebook PC from Windows ME to Win2000 (upgrade). Everything looks good except 2 things:

When it checked for win2000 compatibility with loaded software (I was just from the factory), it identified that 2000 was not compatible with any of the Windows Works programs that were pre-loaded. (that was fine as I have office xp I'm going to use). When I boot up the computer, I get an error message box saying:
WKSCal.exe -unable to locate DLL
The dynamic link library MSVCP60.DLL could not be found in specified path (.....yada-yada)
Question 1- how can I get that error message to go away for good since I don't need to ever use that file.

Question 2- win2000 shrank the screen display of the windows desktop, it doesn't fill the whole screen. It is shrunk on all 4 sides aproximately 20%. I have adjusted the screen resolution in the control panel/display/settings to the more setting and it does not help. The other parts of the screen are black and acts like the monitor is small.

I appreciate anyone's help on this. Thanks.

My BIOS does not support booting from a USB device
The Notebook does NOT have a CD-ROM
I am able to access a USB CD-ROM with a bootdisk
I've created 3 partitions, but only the second partition is working, because the harddisk is corrupt
The partion is 7GB large and has the letter D

The Problems I've encountered:
I tried to start the ..\I386\winnt.exe but the setup doesn't see my Harddrive. Windows is unable to locate a appropriate drive with enough space.
Same as above happens when I run the winnt from the harddisk
The setup doesn't start at all when there is no CD-ROM driver loaded, so I cannot just use simple bootdisks
Well, what can I do?? I'd like to load the USB drivers during the bootsetup(using 4 bootdisk) but I do not know how. Does anyone have a idea how to get this installation going?
Thank you

My laptop probably suffered some damage within the couple years that I have had it but never had any running problems with my baby. I recently went to turn my computer on and the screen stayed black. The fan is still running and LED lights are still lit so I do not know what the problem is. I think it could be the monitor but I do not have an external monitor to test it on. I know that I am running on the Windows 10 OS but I  am not sure if it is 32-bit or 64-bit

A:HP 2000 Notebook (Energy STAR)

Try a hard reset.  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768 Without an external monitor it is going to be hard to test if it is the screen panel. Do you see the hard drive light blinking like there is activity? Do you hear sounds? Can you get into the BIOS (F10) or diagnostics (F2) as you power up?

Last week I purchased an HP 2000 notebook with windows 8 installed I now wish to return and upgrade for a model with a faster processor. I only have a very few personal items on it such as my email address, windows password administrator details and log in passwords on a couple of apps. Therefore I am considering doing a factory reset to remove my personal information and any passwords I have installed. There is no windows key on the notebook itself. In the windows information there is a product ID number which I do not think is the windows key and another which seems to be it but consists of some asterisks and just the last five letters of a key therefore, I am uncertain about what I need to do.I am not very good with computers but as far as I can ascertain I need to do a factory reset via the HP repair software and not any other way.Any advice as to how I should proceed and what precautions I should take would be most welcome (I have watched the specific HP video on this proceedure, maybe I'm just stupid but I found it only added to my confusion).Don

So I have an Alienware Aurora, and it's about a year old. When I bought it I thought 6gb of DDR3 RAM would be more than enough, but I have started noticing that when I run games on highest settings my performance monitor is saying that I'm using 90-100% of my available RAM.

I was looking at TigerDirect trying to choose what I should buy, I'm looking to get another 6gb. I'm confused about the difference between PC3-10600, 10660, and 10666. When I look at my computer information, it shows me that I have:

Memory Module
Mem_Capacity: 2048MB
Mem_BankLabel: DIMM #1
Mem_Type: DDR3
Mem_Bandwidth: PC3-10660 (1333 MHz)
Mem_Frequency: 1336MHz

Memory Module
Mem_Capacity: 2048MB
Mem_BankLabel: DIMM #2
Mem_Type: DDR3
Mem_Bandwidth: PC3-10660 (1333 MHz)
Mem_Frequency: 1336MHz

Memory Module
Mem_Capacity: 2048MB
Mem_BankLabel: DIMM #3
Mem_Type: DDR3
Mem_Bandwidth: PC3-10660 (1333 MHz)
Mem_Frequency: 1336MHz

On TigerDirect, I only have the options of PC3-10600, or PC3-10666. Can I use 6gb of 10666 with the already installed 6gb of 10600? Does any RAM I add have to be 1333 MHz to work? What do I need to look for to make sure the RAM I buy will be compatible with the RAM I already have installed?

I've spent two days now working to get my PC up to speed so to speak. I use Windows XP, IE 7, Roboform and just started using PC Tools Internet Security with Browser Defender. OK here's the problem......Roboform offers to autofill forms but when I select that option, I get the same message repeatedly and here's how that goes:

IE has encountered an issue and has to close
then upon investigating>>>>>

Application error Faulting application iexplore.exe Faulting module pctbdcore.dll version

To further complicate matters, I contacted Roboform about it and they replied with the following message:

Please uninstall pctbdcore.dll:2.0.5.98 pctbrowserdefender.dll:2.0.5.98
and other malware you have in your browser.

Well swell I think. Like I know how to get in that blasted registry and delete stuff...........yeah right! So I used Malwarebites Anti Malware and it located those same two dll files and it found them to be rogue installers and quarantined them. I think to myself, WOW you go girl. You got it fixed. NO!!!! no such luck. The same issue recurs each time using Roboform and the only way I've been able to use Roboform is to uninstall Browser Defender.

Have any of you encountered this issue? If so, please help me out here and keep in mind I am not too technically inclined................I can walk and chew gum but my basic thinking is KISS..................keep it simple stupid (meaning me being the stupid one)

A:compatibility issues I think?

Personaly I think you will be just fine without the Browser Defender. Just as long as your carefull about what you click on, download and not open e-mail attachments you don't really need antivirus at all. I've never ran AV and never had a virus, my wife (a totaly computer noob) even uses the computer safetly with no AV. I'd guess with 400 identities in Roboform you know your way around the internet and what not to click on.

For some reason I cannot get either of the two to work when they are both in my computer. But separated they work just fine. I've reformatted countless times, and can't figure out what is wrong. Could there be some compatibility issues between some nvidia and ati products that I haven't heard about? Thanks a lot.

Hi Guys:

Starting to get desperate here!

Last fall bought a new HP with Vista but came with Windows 7 upgrade, sincerely wish I had left Vista on this computer.

So far this is the list of things that don't work. (hundreds of hours of troubleshooting have not resolved)

1. Hp printer/scanner no drivers.

2. Quickbooks 2009 incompatible. (forced to use XP based laptop, a real pain) Intuit has thrown up their hands and won't support 2009 on Windows 7 based machines.

3. Will not read external hard drive

4. Must load wireless router manually. ( current N router)

5. Will not read digital camera, just grinds away endlessly.

6. Will not load firefox half the time, requires full shut down and reload.

Honestly at the point where I will take this system to the warehouse and use it for email only. ( pretty sad )

I honestly do not know what is going on with Microsoft, this OS was clearly released without adequate testing and now we are stuck with it. As a small business owner we rely on being up and fully operating at all times, simply do not have time to fight with computers just to get the basics working.

Any suggestions out there or do you know anyone who has a good XP based machine for sale (maybe a Mac)

Thanks

A:Compatibility Issues

Welcome to the Forum,

From your description it sounds like you did an upgrade install. If this is the case the OS will never be right. With an upgrade DVD you can do a clean install, and you should.

If you did an upgrade previously but do a clean install, now, you will be amazed by the difference in performance.

this game i play had some bugs, so my friend showed me 2 ways of fixing these bugs,

1st fix: right click on properties of game icon, click on compatibility run this program XP service pack 2, instead of service pack 3, i did this, but it caused a new issue, so i went back to service pack 3.

2nd fix: start task manager, end explorer.exe and the game wont bug out, this prooved to give me no problems so i still use this fix.

the problem is, ever since doing this, i noticed a severe different in the way my computer is responding in versatile situations, for example, now when i am running my game, and lets say i have a 2nd or 3rd program running, if im playing the game and i press F11, it usually activates the 2nd or 3rd program, but now if i have the game open, nothing else is reactable, like the game somehow freezes all outside actions.. and i cant relate the game with my macro program or communication programs.. this is really bogus and if anyone could help me out that'd be awesome!

Hi, I have a small business making slideshows, and I do burn a lot of DVD's. I do have a problem with some DVD's not playing in all home viewers. I am fairly new and am learning the process. I have a Lite on DVDRW 1633s came with the pc. I use Nero 7 to burn.I tried to set bit-sitting, but I think because my burner is interenal,it won't let me do it. Now I've read here something about finilizing a disc after burn. Maybe I am missing a process. How do you 'finalize'?I use R- and have tried to book type R+. Thanks

Okay in the past few days I am getting a lot of sites that are being displayed in Compatibility mode because of some problem with the webpage. This has never happened before and I could see it happening from time to time on odd sites, but things like foxnews.com and arbusa.com. Any way I just got to thinking that I may have some kind of malware. So I updated Security Essentials and scanned my system with no problems.

Can anyone tell me why so many web pages are no having problems and have to be displayed in comap mode?

Thanks

And this problem is also happening IE with no add-ons. I have even reset IE to like new and problem still continues.

A:IE9 and Compatibility issues

I tried foxnews.com in both IE9 x86 & IE9 x64 - came up without compatibility mode just fine.

Hi,

a friend of mine recently bought 2 identical sticks of 1gb ddr 2100 ram from a well known online auction site, to upgrade his emachines 590 pc. It should have been perfectly compatible, but upon installing the ram he got the dreaded blue screen stop error:
"process1_initialization failure" or something along those lines and a lot of 0x00000012A type numbers.
This also happened with only one stick installed as well.

The ram itself isnt the problem, as it worked fine on my system.

http://www.e4allinc.info/dir1/mothe...78/imperial.htm
here is a bunch of info on the motherboard if you need it.

could the problem be caused by the PSU by any chance? the system has 250W power supply, the cpu is a P4 2.4ghz and Windows is fully updated etc.

any help/ideas would be much appreciated.

Cheers

A:RAM compatibility issues

Hiya

Is this problem still happening? If so, that link is not working, can you post another one?

Certain types of RAM will usually work with only certain types of motherboard. Things that you have to consider are EEC, parity, etc.

For the RAM itself, does it have any special markings, or a number on the side, so we know what type it is?

Hello,

I recently signed up for hosting with "HostPapa". When trying to install a "web disk shortcut for my desktop", it refuses to open. Their support told me they have had issues with "Windows Vista". When I downloaded to my wife's PC with XP everything was fine. So, support told me to use "FileZilla" and download from there. I couldn't get that to work either. Sense my job was eliminated, it's very important that I get this website built. Please give me some help in this matter. I would be greatfull.

The file produced was: webdiskvbs.vbs (4.47 KB)

Thank you,

A:Compatibility Issues

Open a command prompt, but select <b>Run as administrator</b> first. Then CD to where the file is stored and run CScript webdiskvbs.vbs to run the program, this will give enough permissions to run the program and access your system.

Hi: Type any password you want 3 times, and the PC should generate a system disabled (halt) code. After you get the halt code, see the first post at the link below for how to get an unlock code to enter, so you can get access to your PC.  There are also steps to clear the password. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Sy?stem-and-Recovery/System-Halt-Error-Message-or-BIO?...

Currently my notebook has the standard 4GB of memory using the HP provided Hynix HMT451S6AFR8A SoDIMM, 12800 DDR3L-1600, 1.35V. I have been looking to replace it with either Kingston HyperX, HX316LS9IB2_8, DDR3L-1600 (2x4GB) kit or the Crucial Ballistix Sport CT6278900, DDR3L-1600 (2x4GB) kit. Both have 9-9-9 timings. My question is will the memory with lower timings and the density of the chips work on my HP 2000-2d37cl notebook with an AMD A6-5200 CPU? Also I was curious about postings in the forums where persons had lost the Admin or other passwords on theirHP 2000 notebooks or they purchased a used notebook that had a unknown password. They provide the codes from the error on screen and the reply's from techs allowed them to get past this and reset their systems. I hope I never have that problem, however where exactly are the techs getting the codes from? Is there some program or document available that has the code alogrithm? Thank You.

I?ve just bought a new Win7 64-bit computer ... still in the box. I will be connecting via dial-up, and have bought Wintek?s external Filemate USB Modem CX ... which came with a mini-CD installation disk.

I?ve heard horror stories about mini-CD?s jamming vertical DVD/CD drives ... so, hoping to avoid using the mini-CD and jamming my new computer, I?ve downloaded the installation/driver file from the modem manufacturer onto a DVD ... via my old Vista 32-bit system. But the modem installation file is zipped ... so I can?t unzip/extract the .inf file and move it to my new computer ... without installing 7-Zip (or something similar) to my Vista system.

Bearing in mind that I can?t download anything to my new computer until I install the modem, will there be compatibility problems from moving a file which was downloaded/unzipped on a 32-bit system to a 64-bit system? Any other suggestions for installing my modem?

Thanks a million ...

A:Driver compatibility between 32-bit and 64-bit

Hello rhjoyson and welcome to the forums

There won't be any problems if you unzip a file on a x86 system that you then go on to use in a x64 system

Hello! Until recently I have only been using Norton AV2001 (updated regularly through live update) and McAfee firewall. I did not install McAfee AV since there are incompatibility issues with Norton. Yesterday I downloaded a free AV called avast. It alerted me on some things found on my computer like BiSpy, ncasespy, trojano etc. Because of this i read on spyware and downloaded the ff:HijackThis, AdAware, SpyBot, SpywareGuard, SpywareBlaster and SwatIt. Do I really need all of these in my system? Am I not risking any compatibility issues here? Thanks for your suggestions

Hello
Have a nice day ...
Question 1: About few months ago i bought a new motherboard (gigabyte p61a-d3) for my custom built PC ..
Now i am intending to buy a gpu (Nvidia GTX 970) but i am worried about compatibility issues ... as the gpu will be sent to me from another country and i cant afford to send it back in case it didnt fit to my motherboard ...
So are there any suggestions to check compatibility?
This is a link to the motherboard overview site :
GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1155 - GA-P61A-D3 (rev. 2.0)

Because i had some compatibility problems with Rams as i tried many RAMs and none was fit except for one ...

Question 2: is there any way i can know my Ram type and its manufacturing company? So i can buy another one of the same type as others are not fitting?

Yesterday my laptop took a big hit. I am no way a software/computer guy...

First, these are the apps / programs I am running, that hopefully are relevant.

1) M.S. Defender (I can manually turn everything off, when I go to the home page, it states I am fully protected..Still haven't figured that one out...

2) Free version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware..I believe it is only active when I turn the sweep on?, Is that a true observation on my part??

3) Paid version of Webroot anti virus W/ spy sweeper 7.0.4.127.

My questions: I think most here would recommend M.I.S. rather than Microsoft defender...If that is true, should I un-install the defender before installing the M.I.S.?

Also does anyone see any conflicts between these apps. I am currently running???

Back to yesterdays big crash....I was lucky enough to enter Task manager and do a restore point, went back arbitrarily to the time my machine seemed to be accepting M.S. updates.

The only major thing I changed was the DEP so I could down load a fight sim C.D. a few days back. Used it for several years before, W/O any problems, I un-stalled it about a year ago. I have not installed it since the recovery and changed the DEP back to its original setting...(Could that have caused such a Major inciedent??)

Also, (After the restore), I have changed my M.S. updates so I can download but I can choose when I want to install them.. When I download and Install the updates do I have to let the machine cycle through a st... Read more

A:compatibility issues / MS updates

[I will assume that M.I.S. is actually MSE Microsoft Security Essentials.
If correct, just leave defender alone, it will be turned off when you install MSE.

Malwarebytes the free version just runs when you scan, so no conflict

YOu restart after an update only when it tells you to

Hope I guessed right with mse and answered all that you need.

I have a mother board (ms-7058) and am curious to find out what processors are compatible as well as video cards, I know its old I just want to explore options before buying all new components.

A:Solved: compatibility issues

A search on the MSI website brings up these two motherboards: http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=searchresult&keywords=ms-7058

If you are unsure which of those two you have, open up the side of the case and in most cases the advertising model number, 915P Combo or 915G Combo, will be marked on the board.

But CPU support is limited to Pentium 4's and Celeron D's - both considered obsolete.

The board does support PCI-Express video cards but where you will be limited is by your power supply and the processor you have - any modern mid to high end card will be performance limited by a Pentium 4 processor.

You're best bet may be to consider a new system and sell this one.
