Control/C Control/V control/alter/delete doesn't work

Q: Control/C Control/V control/alter/delete doesn't work

I can't use my Control with any other key to copy, cut, paste, or
bring up task manager.

Help please and thanks, Mary

Here is my hijackthis text file.

A: Control/C Control/V control/alter/delete doesn't work

Mary, keyboard problems are not invariably software or malware-related. First things first - what OS are you talking about ? XP, Win 7, Win 8 or what? What type of keyboard is it? PS2, USB or wireless?

Disconnect it and reconnect it a few times, reboot and try again. Turn the keyboard upside down, placing one end on the edge of a thick book, and thump a few times on the back with your hand. Sweep the crud onto the carpet.....

Is it just a keyboard hardware problem, and if so which keys? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/keyboard-shortcuts#keyboard-shortcuts=windows-7 tells you a lot of key combinations with ctrl and shift and alt. Tell us if any or none work?

Open a document and try typing a bit of text. Do all the characters work?

If it appears the keyboard is faulty, can you borrow another to test?

Quite often, keyboard problems are down to wireless problems: and can often be solved by re-installing the keyboard driver.

When I try to use the C-A-D command nothing shows up. I have tried right clicking the task bar and then clicking task manager but that doesn't work either. It opens in safe mode but not in regular startup. Not sure if ths belongs here or in the security thread??

I could swear I've seen similar problems on this forum, but I did a search and didn't come up with anything.

3Ghz Pentium 4 512 MB of RAM running XP Pro. Last night a user on this PC installed MS updates, by logging off via the "install updates and shut down" option. When she came in this morning, the PC didn't respond to control + alt + delete. She asked me for help in logging on. I clicked on the help link in the control alt delet prompt, and the password prompt came up!?

The MS update button(at the bottom right corner of the screen - not sure what this is called) on her login still had the exclamation point on it, so I clicked on it to install the updates again. It installed and prompted for a restart. So I clicked on the restart now option. Nothing happened. I went to Start->shutdown, and nothing happened. I hit control alt delete, and nothing happened.

Ran spyware checks via spybot and ad-aware and they only turned up cookies. I am in the process of running a virus check right now.

My userid on the same computer has no problems. When I hit control alt delete, I get the standard prompt.

I am hoping someone on this forum can help me. I have a Thinkpad X60s, about a year old and I am running XP. Randomly my computer becomes sluggish so I try closing programs. I then figure out that one program is frozen (come to think of it, that program may always be IE) and I can't close it. I then try to warm boot with ALT CONTROL DELETE but it doesn't work. In fact, instead of getting the task manager, my screen saver comes up without any icons on my desktop. I have no cursor and can't do anything but unplug or take out battery and manually crash the computer. It then will start normally though it takes longer for the icons to appear.

I regularly download both IBM and Windows updates, I defrag regularly, do virus scans etc using Norton 360. I also have run Think Pad Productivity Center maintenance tasks.

Other than that and the slugglishness the computer runs ok.

Any help out there? I am frustrated and IBM has not been able to help, except by telling me to change the hard drive or send it to them.

A:Freeze, alt control delete doesn't work, lose all icons

Yes I think this is a hard drive issue too. Check to see how much space you have left on it. Go to My computer and right-click on the C drive icon. Click Properties... Also, you might consider checking the hard drive with a utility like Seatools from Seagate. IBM notebook drives are noted for their high failure rates...

Back up your important data please, ASAP

Good luck

I'm running Windows 8.1 64bits.

I have noticed since a couple of days ago that my Control+Tab shortcut does not work anymore. Not on text editors, not on web browsers, not on property pages, nowhere.

Control+Shift+Tab (reverse tab navigation) still works.

I have checked the results on an application called "Ethervane ActiveHotkeys". In there, it states that Control+Shift+Tab is not an active hotkey but that Control+Tab IS. I assume that some application decided to globally pick up Control+Tab for itself.

I have tried restarting (and testing as quickly as possible before all programs load), I have tried closing down all applications that the task manager will let me and still the shortcut does not work.

I tried going to msconfig and disabling all programs and non-Microsoft services with no luck, but if I start Windows 8 in Safe Mode then Control+Tab works again.

I tried running Hotkey Commander; it shows Control+Tab as being bound by some application, but does not show which application it is. If I delete/disable the hotkey binding from inside Hotkey Commander then it works again until I restart.

I'm stumped as to how to troubleshoot this further and any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

A:Control+Tab does not work anywhere anymore (Control+Shift+Tab still works)

I'm having the same problem as of today, and basically mirrored your findings.  The only thing I can think of that changed in the last 24 hours was the nVidia drivers and Geforce experience..

I'm running Windows XP SP2 and I have all my sound drivers installed (I can get sound just fine in every app), but I can't control the main volume in the Volume Control. I can adjust the volume with the Wave slider, but the main one doesn't do anything, including mute. Individual applications' volume controls work fine too, just not the main Windows one. It wouldn't be a problem, but it might be the reason why I'm not getting any volume on the Stereo Mix recording option. I just finished a clean install of XP (for a different reason) and it wasn't working before, either. Any ideas?

I clicked on "Turn parental control on and deny computers access to ONLY these sites", entered the website url in the box, ticked it and set the schedule to always. But when I try to access the blocked web page it takes a little longer than usual but then loads on the website normally.

The two sites entered in the boxes are the ones I've tried to test the feature with, but both are not being blocked.

Can someone see anything I've done wrong?

I have tried emptying the cache and rebooting the computer and router, but still the pages just refuse to be blocked.

What's happening??? Advice would be appreciated.

I'm running Microsoft professional, Internet Explorer and have a Google toolbar.

All attempts to add software are blocked and the add remove feature in the control panel won't open. For example, I can't update my old version of Itunes because the popup for the update gets blocked. I know about the popup blocker in the Google toolbar, and how to handle that, that isn't the problem. In Internet Options, the security setting is at medium and under the advanced tab I reset all options to default.

A:Add Remove In Control Panel Doesn't Work

What version of IE are you using?

What other security programs do you have on the computer? It's possible that one of them is blocking the pop-ups.

Yesterday I reinstalled Windows 7 on my notebook PC. I had to use a Microsoft installation disk because unfortunately, serious errors resulted after I installed from the HP recovery program. Consequently the HP drivers that were installed automatically with the recovery program weren't installed on my system. I had to install several of them from the HP support site. I got everything to work except for the Touch volume control, or the Volume Scroll Zone as referred to by HP in the service guide. This is the device located just above the keyboard that increases or decreases speaker volume when you drag you finger on it. I installed the Quick Launch button driver but that only applied to the mouse and pointer touchpad. I looked at the devices listed in my startup configuration. I saw the synaptics pointing device and the HP quick launch buttons listed. So is the IDT PC audio driver.  What am I missing? Where I can I find it to activate the touch volume control?

Sounds like you may have a virus.

If you can, boot into Safe Mode with Networking and run a full virus scan.

A:Tecra P5 - Volume control doesn’t work properly

As far as I know volume control in the past was mechanical but now it works on different way and it is controlled by specific tool/utility.
To be honest Tecra P5 is not known to me but obviously it is Australian notebook model and according to Australian support page this notebook model is not supported for Windows 7.

That doesn?t mean you cannot use it but this means there is not software package designed for Windows 7 that can be installed so I think there is no much you can do about it.

I know it is annoying but for volume control you can use Windows option placed in task bar.

Hi,
I recently noticed that my ctrl+a doesn't work. All the other ctrl combinations do! Ctrl+a doesnt allow me to "select all" while word processing or use this combination in games (first person shooters).

I have a logitech G15 and other keyboards and they all dont allow me to use ctrl+a. I have tried different versions of keyboard drivers for my G15 and without. I plugged the keyboard into another W7 and it works

Im assuming this is an issue with my OS now.

I know reinstalling windows is a option but want that to be the last resort as i only reformatted last month(i think it only started occurring when i reformatted)

EDIT: I have fixed my issue - it turns out my user account was corrupted, so I had to make a new one and copy all my documents folder over!

Maybe its just hanging up because you leave it sitting so long. Have you thought about letting it go standby when it sits for say ten minutes? Then when you come back and touch the mouse, it picks up right where you left off. To do that, right click anywhere clear on your desktop and select properties, select screensaver, then select power settings, then you can set it to turn off monitor after five or ten minutes, my hard drives are set for never turn off and system you can set for whatever you want, I am set for standby after 15 minutes...doc

I just spent the last 30 hours downloading and installing all the update for 8.1 on my new Acer Laptop. Now the system will not shut down, update will not open and restore does not work. Also the sound system does not work. I've tried the recovery options but all I get is unending aero. Shutdown produces background apps still running and will only work if I physically turn off the power.

I'm at a loss to know what to do next. I did not expect to have these problems with a brand new system and by following all the proper procedures for updating.

A:Control Panel Backup & Restore link doesn't work

Have you run

Either there is a problem in the windows file structure which sfc will check for, or a service the feature depends on has been disabled.

Hi, I had some issues with a HDD around this time last year, so I replaced it with a new western digital HDD. I wasn't able to back anything up, so I cloned it instead.

turns out I installed the incorrect driver for my video card and suffered from the BSOD syndrome....

well, I finally got that sorted out, ( I think ) and now I am trying relentlessly to get catalyst pro control center to work properly. Ive read numerous places online that involves editing the Assembly folder, but I have no such keys in there.

when I try and run CCC, it tells me that I am unable to run as I wouldn't be able to change any settings within the app basically. Ive tried uninstalling, installing. trying ATI opposed to AMD- to no anvil.

I know for a fact that I had CCC on this pc, but it almost seems impossible to get up and running, I am very desperate to get this up and running.

thanx in advance

Hello, I have a problem with connecting my SE K700i cell phone with Windows 7 notebook via bluetooth. I have paired them, file transfer is available, the problem is remote control (HID profile) - when trying to connect either desktop, presenter, kmplayer or any other, it always shows "Bluetooth connection failed. If I try to use the Ctrl-Click action on web pages that allow you to select multiple items in a list box, a new ie session opens (to my home page) instead of allowing me to make multiple selections. This happens with ALL web pages that have multiple select boxes. It only happens on my desktop (XP with i.e 7), and not on other computers in my house with ie7.
- I tried disabling ALL active X controls and add-ins. Still didn't work.
Any ideas please? (It's maddening!!)

A:Control-Click doesn't work with multiple select lists-it opens a new ie page instead

One thing you may want to check is the control panel/accessibility options and make sure nothing is checked in there. Sometimes the accessibility settings for the keyboard will play havoc with what you think should be happening with keys.

Hello :)
I hope I put this in the right area..

I've been searching for a solution to this volume problem for a while now, but to no avail. I've found others with a similar problem, but no solution. So here's the deal: I just got a new motherboard, and ever since I got it my volume control has been faulty. First of all, all sounds are very quiet, even when all volume sliders are set to maximum. Next the main volme control has no effect whatsoever on the volume of the computer. I can can slide it all the way to the top, or all the way to the bottom, nothing changes. The only thing that makes any difference is the Wave control and it barely does anything. Also, when I put "Mute all"...it doesn't mute. However when I put mute for Wave control, no sound comes out.
All this is incredibly annoying because I often listen to music on my computer, but now I basically can't hear it. To note: I don't have a volume control on my keyboard, or on my speakers, and I know nothing is wrong with the speakers.

If anyone could help, I would really, really appreciate it. Thanks :)

Are your speakers powered? If not you may have to invest in powered

Do you have any other soundcard-like devices like a USB headset?
Do you have the latest drivers for your soundcard installed? Please check the motherboard maker's website.
Did you get some special program with the motherboard drivers that would give you more control over sound than the Windows standard volume utility?

Hi all,

Access 2003 with VBA code time again!

I have a form named "MyForm" with a single tab control on it named "MyTabCtl1".

The Tab Control holds three pages: "Tab_Page_1", "Tab_Page_2" and "Tab_Page_3" and each page has a number of bound controls on it.

Now, on "Tab_Page_3" I have an unbound control called "Descriptor_00"

I wish to create code that, on loading the form, will set the ".text" or ".value" property of "Descriptor_00" to be a combined string derived from other controls on the same and other pages.

On a standard form, I'd use something like:

Me!MyControl.Value = Me![First Control] & ", " & Me![Second Control] & (etc)

to build my combined string.

But, how would I do this for a control on a page of a tabbed control ? What's the syntax cuz I'me puzzled!!

Does this make any sense?

All the best

Chris

I'm running windows XP on an old Dell Inspiron 1501 and I'm trying to get my microphone to play directly through my speakers so I can record them both simultaneously. The only answer I've been finding is to tick the 'microphone' checkbox in the volume control playback properties panel, but I don't have a microphone checkbox. There should be a 'microphone' box under SW Synth and CD player but I don't get one apparently.I've downloaded the latest SigmaTel Audio drivers from Dell and despite not having a problem with them before this, I'm inclined to believe that they're the problem. Any ideas?

A:No microphone control in playback Volume Control panel

Okay well of course I find an answer right after posting the topic:
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/t/19295458.aspx
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/p/18112824/18235810.aspx#18235810

Those two pages detail how to get an Input Monitor checkbox which functions just like the microphone one I wanted (although you can only mute it, not alter the volume). I used Instructional Set 3 from the second page, having to add the 'RecMonitorMute' entry as detailed in the first page and I can now hear my microphone input directly through my speakers.

HOWEVER, I'm still unable to record both the microphone and speaker sound at the same time. I thought recording the 'Stereo Mix' channel with the microphone coming through the speakers would work but it isn't and I don't know why. Any ideas?

I recently discovered the shortcut keys for copy and paste, cntrl c & cntl v, do not work for certain programs. For example, if I have a picture using Windows Photo Gallery (or Paint) and I hit cntrl c and try to paste it in an email, cntrl v, nothing happens. I can, however, copy the same picture into a Microsoft Word document. I can also do a cntrl-alt-delete sequence and it brings up a task manager window.

I cannot copy the same image from Microsoft Word into an email page. It also does not work when I right click on the picture and hit the paste or copy feature.

I use AOL for my mail and Firefox for my browser.

Thanks in advance.

Hello!
I got myself an Audio-Technica AT2020USB+ condenser microphone a few weeks ago, and I haven't really found out how I can change the gain, which I hear is important to do.
There is only one slider where the gain slider also should have been. The mic doesn't have a gain know like some other microphones have.

As you can see there is one slider. It only changes volume as far as I know.

How can I change the gain, is it needed, or can I maybe control gain using the volume slider?
If I can't change it directly through the mic or through the control panel, how can I change it? D:

Thanks in advance!

A:Can't control gain! No slider in control panel!

I have a recording studio (Sonar X3) and use several AT mics but they are not USB mics (such as the AT2035 and AT2050).

"Volume level" is the same as "gain". You can adjust the "Volume Level" or you can adjust the "gain" - both are the same thing. On mixers, amplifiers, etc, some will call the volume control "level" and others "gain".

A USB mic should have its own listing in the Sound/Recording Panel. Whatever slider that is has, such as what you show, should adjust the volume level. Many recording programs also have volume level adjustments.

Thanks for reading this. Boy, do I need help.

Somehow I got my permissions all messed up. I can't access some folders. I have worked a lot trying to use properties-security tab and playing around, and I can sometimes change permissions so I can use a folder. But I am trying to open "Documents and Settings" and it will not let me change permissions on it and I can't get into it. I think I could before this mess started.
When I start up, instead of one account (jim) which had administrative privileges, now I have two, Administrators and jim. I always had all permissions with jim, but somehow it's messed up now.
Why can't I have complete control over my own computer as jim? Nobody else will ever use it, it's in my office. But Windows keeps stopping me over permissions, or the message "Access denied."

Anyway, so I logged out as administrator jim and logged in as Administrator. Now I don't even see the folder Documents and Settings.

How can I once and for all get complete control over my computer so I can open or delete any folder or file?

Thanks so much for any help, it's making me pull my hair out.

Jim

A:I've lost control of permissions, how can get get control back?

There is no "Documents and Settings" for Win7, unless perhaps you've un-checked "hide protected operating system files". This "Documents and Settings" folder name is an XP concept, which for Win7 is really part of \Users.

If you open Explorer, and select on the "Organize" item on the menu bar, then "Folder and search options" from the dropdown list, and then View tab, you can CHECK that "hide protected operating system files (recommended)". That's a good thing. And it will also automatically prevent you from trying to access hidden system files that you have no business trying to access by that name since they're now invisible and cannot even be seen. They will instead appear with their proper folder names in Explorer, and you shouldn't be denied access to these properly named folders.

And while there, up a bit in the "hidden files and folders" item you should UN-CHECK the "show hidden files, folders and drives" item. That will let you see your \Users\<userid>\Appdata folder, where much is kept for each user... and you certainly should see \Users\Jim.

Underneath \Users\Jim you should also see \My Documents, \My Music, \My Pictures, etc., which is where your data (for Jim) would normally be saved unless you put it somewhere else.

Hi Murpg,Sorry for the delay, this forum is swamped right now.Because it has been quite a while, I need to see a fresh HijackThis log. Before you run the new HijackThis scan I want you to replace your old version of the program with a new one. Please delete the version currently on your computer, then click here and download the new version to your desktop. To use HijackThis, double-click on the icon. When it runs it will prompt you to extract hijackthis.exe to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis. If you would like to extract it to another location you can change the directory. When it is done installing, HijackThis will automatically launch. When the license agreement appears, select I accept and then click on the Do a system scan only button. When the scan is complete, click on the Save Log button to create a log of your information. When you post the new log, please post it directly in the body of your reply, rather than attaching the file.Dave

However, COMDODO used to warn me about some stuff connecting when Vista booted, e.g MS Media Centre wanting to connect to internet etc.

But Vista Firewall Control doesn't warn me about these outgoing connections. Anyone know why?

The FREE version doesn't support System/Core application protection. What does that mean exactly? Is that why it doesnt warn me about media centre etc?

I inherited a Dell XP420 Computer with Vista Operating System from my stepson Pat who could never figure out the machine.

I seem to have many problems with Vista revolving around User Account Control, Privileges, Permissions, Ownership, user names, file control and directory structure. etc.

I?ve been working around UAC problems, but there has to be a way out of this. My most recent issue:

IE has problems fully loading web pages. With IE, like several programs that I run with this computer I get messages that say I have corrupt files. I get object error warnings Chkdsk does not fix problems.

While shopping for a new car battery, with many pages open, the computer completely hung up last night. I had to kill power and reboot.

IE7 did not work, I Unloaded and IE7 would not work also. Google Chrome is fine, I have internet access. I reset all defaults.

After hours of messing around, I discovered the way to start IE is ?Run as Administrator?
Then like so many other programs I run, I get the screen Windows screen
? A Program needs your permission to continue.?

When I dumped my old files on this XP420 computer from my old computer, They resided in User ?Mike_W_old.? I had no permissions with this user, so I moved all the files to ?Pat? I renamed user/administrator Pat to Mike _W under the desktop, but the user pat did not update under the OS C:\ drive \ Users\ Pat and there is no option to rename here.

Not sure why you think its a security issue. I am not really sure what you are asking. In windows 2000, NT, and XP Pro in domain controller login mode it asks you to press control alt delete to bring up the user login prompt. This is normal.

If you click the Applications tab it is about the same as Windows 9x/Me. Processes are system tasks you normally don't have to worry about.

This is a strange problem.

The update button(at the bottom right corner of the screen - not sure what this is called) on her login still had the exclamation point on it, so I clicked on it to install the updates again. It installed and prompted for a restart. So I clicked on the restart now option. Nothing happened. I went to Start->shutdown, and nothing happened. I hit control alt delete, and nothing happened.

My userid on the same computer has no problems. When I hit control alt delete, I get the standard prompt.

I Appreciate any info.

A:Control Alt Delete Combo Does Nothing

In case anybody's interested:

I did a system restore. This put some of the files and programs in some folders that I didn't want to look for so I decided to undo the restore, and restore from a more recent date.

After the undo of the restore, the computer worked fine, so I didn't bother restoring from a more recent date. My guess as to what caused the problem is a buggy shutdown/msupdate combo.

I ran updates from the MS website this time and they worked fine. Rebooted the CPU twice just to be sure. It works fine.

hey guys,

I have two computers. On one of them, when I do control+alt+delete, the window appears normally. However, when I do control+alt+delete on the other computer, it looks totally different and I am not able to access the processes, performance, networking or users tabs. Does anyone know what's the probelm and how I can fix it? Note: in the screenshot that doesn't display correctly, there is also no minimize, maximize or exit buttons at the top right.

Alright, I cannot get my processes screen up. This is probably because my computer is infected with some virus, but Adware and SpyDoctor have not been able to detect this virus. Apparently, my DSL connection is not working, partially because of this reason (according to the company).

Anyone know how to fix this?

A:Control+alt+delete won't open!

Does no Task Manager Window open at all when Control+Alt+Delete are pressed? Or is it that a Window does appear but without the Tabs that let you select the various areas normally there?

If the latter is the case, double-clicking on the wide border surrounding the Window would bring the Tabs back. The Window can be toggled between one view and the other by double-clicking on the border. When you can only see a Window without Tabs, it's called 'Tiny Footprint' mode.

It still is in my add/delete program and still will not allow me to remove it from there. As in the beginning, it gives me this error:

Hi

I know that it is possible to delete a control in run time as long as that control was also created in run time. I would however like to delete a control in run time where the control is created in design time. Is this possible

If it cant be done then perhaps someone can suggest an alternative solution to my problem. Basically I have a userform in excel with an ActivEx Control (spreadsheet control) on it. As soon as I am done using this control I want it to be deleted so that in future I no longer get that bugging message about ActivEx controls every time I open the excel file.

Maybe there is some sort of way to disable the control so that it no longer causes the warning prompt??

Thnx a lot

A:Delete control in run time

If anyone is interested I managed to find a way to delete a UserForm in run time (even if it was created in design time):

You need to add the
VBIDE (Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications Extensibility) reference, and
then:

ThisWorkBook.VBProject.VBComponents.Remove _
ThisWorkBook.VBProject.VBComponents("UserForm1")

I still am not sure how to delete individual controls though.

I have XP Pro on my system with SP3. When I go ctrl + alt + del, you should get a window with tabs, showing processor activity, files and programs in use, and network options. Now though, I only get a blank window showing programs in use but with no tabs (the bar at the top of the window is blank). I've tried a system restore to before the problem started, but it still wont work. Is there any reason why this should happen, or is there any way to fix it.

A:alt control delete problem

Have you virus scanned the computer lately? Recently removed any? Sounds like some screwed up Windows system files. Error check the drive, checking both options (to repair and recover bad sectors). Then you could try sfc /scannow from the command prompt. Look under evenvwr for any clues. Next I'd do a repair install (after backing up your data), unless someone else has some "behind the curtain" fix.

A:Help, Control Panel doesn't let me in (Hijackthis log)

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

I have to tell you that is a very infected machine!

The P2P programs you have installed expose you to risks because of the nature of the P2P file sharing process. File sharing/P2P programs rely on members giving and gaining unrestricted access to computers across the P2P network. This practice can make you vulnerable to data and identity theft. It also exposes you to very malicious worms and trojans. You change those risky default settings to a safer configuration but the act of downloading files from an anonymous source greatly increases your exposure to infection.

Go to add/remove programs and remove all P2P programs from your machine!

Please download (save) SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your desktop. SmitfraudFix runs under W2K, XP only.

Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop. Select all of the contents and Extract them
to a new folder called SmitfraudFix.
Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may aler... Read more

Is it suppose to change like that, did I download the wrong one or have the wrong one in the start? I did the automatic scan and manually put the information in but they gave the same results.

Good evening,

I've noticed a difference in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Personalization between editions of Windows 10.

My wife's laptop is running Windows 10 Home, and her personalization screen looks like this:

I'm running Windows 10 Enterprise, and my personalization screen looks like this:

Notice that the menu options on the left, and quick access to change the theme settings on the bottom are missing from the enterprise screenshot.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Is it simply a difference between editions? Or is there a setting that is not turned on in my installation?

Thanks in advance!

It wont start in safe mode. i can only use F2 and F10. It will not boot to any CD i put in the drive as well.

A:Boot error hit control alt delete

To boot from a CD, you need to get into the 'BIOS Setup' and change the first boot device to 'CD-ROM'

When booting up, you should see at the bottom of the screen "Press x to enter setup" (where x represents the key you have to press). That will get you into the BIOS Setup.
Don't forget to 'save changes' after changing the first boot device in the BIOS.

If someone can help I would be more than happy to make a donation. I am so stuck. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have the cmdservice problem. One day I got a message from Symantec Antivirus that it had stopped three virus attempts (just surfing myspace, not even downloading anything), so right away I ran a Symantac Scan and it came up clean. Then I ran Lavasoft's Adaware and it found a lot of spyware (I scan every week and have never had spyware before, just mru lists and tracking cookies). After quarantining the items it said my computer was clean on subsequent scans but I kept getting pop ups. So, I ran Spybot S&D and it found more things and fixed them. I thought I was ok then because I had no more pop ups, but then I had shortcuts for ads appear on my desktop. I ran Spybot again and again and almost everytime it would find something and clean it. Then, three days later, it finally found the System Services (cmdServices) issue and cannot fix it.

Here is what spybot search & destroy finds but cannot get rid of (even on startup):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\cmdservice
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\cmdservice
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\cmdservice

Well, I scanned in safe mode (I didn't think of doing that before) and it got rid of the cmdservice stuff, BUT as soon as I restarted my computer (went back to regular mode) I scanned again with Spybot S&D and it found:

Now I know there is something on my computer that Spybot and Adaware are not finding that keeps generating adware and spyware.

Please help me. Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated.

I am using Windows XP with SP2. I went into Control Panel - Add Remove Programs and found that most of my programs that are listed do not give me the button to delete the program. For example, Turbo Tax provides a program with their installation disk called Its Deductible. When I click on this program, I do not get the button that allows me to delete it. After scanning the rest of the programs, most of them have the same problem. Only the ones that I have downloaded lately have the remove button, i.e. Microsoft AntiSpyware program. I have an anti virus program and periodically run Ad-Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy, Registry Mechanic, and I have done an online scan with Trend Micro, but nothing comes up wrong. Unfortunately, last time this happened my husband did it for me and it worked (until late in the night) and forgot to tell me about it. The very next morning I started deleting everything as I thought it was the non-functioning program. Now he refuses to help me, and I can't blame him but I can't do it on my own. Hi! This is my first post and I would like to say Thank You for your time and support.

I'm running on Windows XP and Internet Explorer 7.
2 days ago I installed sp3 however I had the problem before the install.

I have an ActiveX control installed on my computer " Bewitc~1.ocx " which I can not remove/delete. I am concerned this my be a sign of a more serious issue and need help to remove/delete this activex control.

Steps I have already taken:

1- In IE7 - Tools, manage add ons, downloaded activex controls (32 bit )

I click the activex control and hit delete. The control is not removed but listed as disabled? ( no err msgs received ) I can remove other activex controls in this manner.

2- In Windows\downloaded program files I right click the activex control and click remove, I receive the message this will be removed, click ok. The control line disapears.. However when I close the folder and reopen it the activex control is still there.

I tried to remove the activex control and immediately restart my computer, when I open the downloaded program files the control is still there.

3- I went into the Control Pannel, add and remove programs to remove the program installed. Nothing is listed in my list?

Properties are: Bewitched game class control

i could delete them in the shell32.dll.mui (replacing the sting via space like = " ") but after doing that a 1px space is left and when i point at it via my cursor i can still click the "link"

also there is a 2 line space like this (thats not the actual picture, but you should understand):

so is there a way to fix that?

You are only deleting the name. There will be some registry value that could possibly delete those but I don't know of it and a simple search didn't show me anything. I'll try to see if someone knows how to do that. It's easy to delete control panel items but I'm not sure about the links you want to delete. FWIW, both link to the same place, "System properties".

Hi everyone!

Ok...I've got a remote desktop sharing issue. I hope someone can help. I am using RealVNC to tunnel into one of my computer at my office. No issues there. Everything works fine. The problem is that another of my office computers isn't accepting connections. I need to figure out how to send a control+alt+delete to it.

I can access the the my documents directory of the 'problem' computer through the computer I can tunnel into. Is there a way to remotely reboot the remote computer?

Please help. I'm going crazy trying to figure out a solution. My 'problem' computer locked me out when my assistant, from her home computer, used RealVNC to tunnel in when I had just installed UltraVNC. She got some sort of strange error. I tunneled in using UltraVNC and found that the remote UltraVNC had been opened 7 times and that there were 7 'runtime' errors, preventing me from doing ANYTHING on that remote computer.

That's why I'm trying to 'get in' from another remote computer.

Any assistance would be much appreciated. Yes, I know that I may just have to physically go to the office and reboot. I was hoping that there was a way around this.

Thanks in advance,

The nice blue background and the text telling me to "press control alt delete to logon" appears just fine. However, as soon as I press control alt delete, the text goes away, I have the nice blue background, and it just sits there. I can move the mouse around, but the "ease of access" icon in the bottom left is unresponsive. That icon is responsive before I press control alt delete.

I can login in safe mode. Any ideas?

Are you using any logon software for biometric devices , fingerprint readers or anything?
