[SOLVED] Volume control options > playback devices doesn't list my headphones just sp

Q: [SOLVED] Volume control options > playback devices doesn't list my headphones just sp

Hi, my speakers play sound but when I plug the headphones into the master speaker on the right it doesn't play audio anymore through the headphones. I tried several pair, one even brand new and no luck, however when anything is plugged in the audio stops. I tried plugging them into the back of the desktop and the front even but none of the 3.5mm audio jacks seem to want to allow Windows 7 to recognize the head phones.

My son is playing some browser game and it's driving me mad to have to listen to it in the back round and was hoping someone could help me navigate the volume control options in Windows 7 so I could fix this for myself, thank you

A: [SOLVED] Volume control options > playback devices doesn't list my headphones just sp

First thing, are you sure that the jack on your speaker system works?

Next, I would advise you reinstall your sound driver.

I am not able to record or hear sounds from my office based Packard Bell laptop running MS Windows XP Professional SP2.

The mixer device is Realtek AC97 Audio which appears to be installed and running OK. The driver is also current.
The attached speakers and Logitech headphones work OK on my personal laptop and are plugged properly.
The control panel volume options are grayed out for both "Device Volume" and "Speaker Settings" in Sounds And Audio Devices Properties.
I am using Windows Default Sounds.
There are no error flags on the "sound, video or game controllers" under Device Manager.
Sound playback default device is Realtek AC97 Audio and sound recoring default device is Logitech USB Headset. MIDI music playback default device is Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth.
Voice playback default device is Realtek AC97 Audio (using laptop speakers selected) and sound recoring default device is Logitech USB Headset.
Troubleshooting has not pointed to any problems.
The problem surely rests with the grayed out volume options with the volume slide set to 0. From my many attempts to Google a solution I am of the opinion that this is not an uncommon problem.
Can someone please help.

Cheers

Forto

This headphone I bought is a high quality one I bought.
It doesn't show on playback but has bad quality with that.
It gives the speaker sounds through my headphone instead.
Help me please.

A:Headphones not showing up on playback devices

Exactly what headphones do you have? Are they analog or USB connected?

Also, more information on your Toshiba including model number.

Hey, I'm experiencing frustrating issues with my playback and wondered if you guys could help?
Basically I noticed when I turned on my laptop that there was no sound coming out of my Headphones, only the speaker. It was in the right jack as there are only two its not that hard to get right haha. Anyway I went into playback devices to check if for some reason my headphones had been disabled. I then couldn't see my headphones in the playback options, just the speakers which was the default and its Realtek HD Audio. I right clicked to see if the show disabled icons were checked and they were. So it looks as if my laptop didn't even know that headphones existed at this point. I then went into realtek and they also didn't have anything do with headphones as an option. The other things i have tried are: TURNING IT OFF AND ON AGAIN, updating my realtek drivers, doing a system restore and looking online for solutions. It would be great if anyone could give me some advice on what to do as i need this to be fixed because my career is in music so as you can guess this is really important to me. My system is windows 7 home premium 64bit, plus my headphones do work on other devices so they are also not the problem. Thanks for your time!

A:Headphones Not Recognised In Playback Devices, Please Help.

I have a recording studio.

First thing to do, considering what you have done, is to go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the RealTek sound and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT check the box to also uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound.

I was watching a TV show in my headphones, plugged it out for about an hour, plugged it back in during which time my Dell Inspiron 15 would have gone to sleep about 4 times.. I plug it back in after an hour and the music plays through the speakers and I looked up all solutions. None of them work. Checked my audio drives, disabled the speakers and enabled them back.. Dunno what to do. I really hope you guys can help. Reply ASAP, freaking out as it is just a week old, my laptop.

Hey everybody, new forum member here. So here's the scoop. I use my headphones for a lot of stuff. I have a Dell Inspiron laptop, and when I booted up and plugged in my headphones, nothing happened. The sound came from the speakers. I don't like that. So I open up my playback devices, and my headphones are mysteriously not there. I unplug them, and they appear again, listed as "Not plugged in". I plug them back in, and they disappear. Nothing works with them. The pair are Cirrus Logic High Definition Audio earbuds.
OS is 8.1

Any help you can give me? This is extremely frustrating.

A:Headphones disappear from playback devices for no reason.

Could be a bad port, however, it could be something as simple as the audio driver is not installed or configured to run headphones or the external ports.

Right click on start menu button
Click on device manager
Click on Sound, audio or game controllers, and check the audio device.

If it says High Definition Audio device, you will need to go to the dell website and download the drivers.

If it has like Realtek High Definition Audio, or some other audio controller,

Right click on start menu,
Click on Control Panel
Change from Category view to Large icons,
Find Realtek audio control panel, or whatever audio control panel you have.
Make sure that the external ports are properly configured.

I plugged my usual headphones into the audio jack and it was recognized, saying "You just plugged a device into the audio jack", but when I went to go listen to music, like I usually do, I hear nothing. I turned the volume all the way up and still hear nothing. I went into the Playback Devices tab for the audio and only the speakers icon shows up. No headphones. I unplugged and replugged the headphones in and still get nothing, even after the computer recognizes that there is something connected to the audio jack. I plugged the headphones into my MP3 player and it works. So, there's nothing wrong with the headphones. The computer speakers work, it's just the headphone jack that is giving me problems by not working. I've never had any issues with the audio jack before this. Please advise. Thanks!

Hello,

I'm running on Windows 10 Home and my earphones work but they don't show up in playback devices (Right click sound and select playback devices) I'm not really sure how to get them back. It doesn't really matter with my earphones but my headphones don't work at all when I plug them in and I'm not sure if it not showing up in the playback devices will change anything (So I can set it to default device?)
Also, my headphones used to work but then it started not to work every once and a while and the sound would come out of the speaker.
It would be appreciated if someone could help.

My audio setup is.. A set of speakers, a TV via HDMI, and headphones. I want to be able to have the TV be my default audio option when it's turned on and enabled, but I also want the headphones to take priority when those are connected. When I'm just using one monitor and not the tv, I want the speakers to play sound. In my playback devices section, the "speakers" item is both the headphones and the speakers, which I don't want. How can I separate the headphones and speakers into two items, so I can assign them separately?

The headphones all work for other computers. When I open playback devices, the headphones appear as "speakers", "USB PnP Sound Device", and "Ready". Where there is usually a volume bar is blank, no bar. I am unable to set the device as default, when I select that option nothing happens.

I know the up to date drivers are installed for the headphones, but the issue is probably related to other drivers inside of the computer. Have fixed before by reinstalling OS, but would like not to do so again.

Please ask for more information if it is needed to fix the issue and suggest anything, I am desperate.

A:No USB headphones work on this computer, they ARE in playback devices

Try a reinstall of the headphones. Connect them, go to the Device Manager listing for the headphones (should be in the Sound section). RIGHT click on the entry to highlight it and then LEFT click "UNINSTALL". Also Uninstall the driver. Disconnect the headphones, restart Windows. After Windows starts, connect the headphones and Windows should detect new hardware and install them. This fixes a lot of flakey problems and Windows device corruptions and may fix your problem.

At the moment when I record I get the both the skype conversation I'm having and the game audio through at the same time, I want to isolate them to separate playback devices while having them both play through my headphones.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

This through my speakers , i plug my headphones through the audio jack on the "SoundForce Vivo 2.1" by Trust company

Things i have tried:-

Updating drivers (there is none for my speakers)
updated system (onboard) sound card drivers.
all my lines in/out are at max volume
all my system volumes and system tray volumes are at maximum

the sound plays back just very low, i have to turn my speakers up full on the volume dial for any form of playback.

any solutions or suggestions? :S

EDIT: Also i have tried plugging my headphones into the rear audio jack and removing my speakers (frustrating at the least) but low playback through that entrance as well.

EDIT 2: I have an Acer Aspire M1640 running Windows 7 Premium

Can someone help me solve this enigma? Can't find answers anywhere...

So I've installed Adobe Audition on my brand new Asus K53E. When I try to record, I can't select my headphones as the default audio playback. So I go and try to do it in the control panel. But the headphones/headphone jack simpy isn't listed in the devices in control panel, or anywhere.

The thing is, the headphones work fine in the jack. A message alerts me when I've plugged or unplugged anything into the jack (I only have one headphone jack on my Asus K53E). I use the headphones when I watch movies on this machine and everything is cool, but if they won't register under playback devices, then I can't set them as a preference in Audition, and therefore can't use the program (headphones being vital to record, unless you want to end up with feedback loops..)

I tried "show disabled devices", no luck. I fiddled around in the Realtek HD audio manager, but none of the settings there seem to do anything either. I downloaded the latest driver from realtek, but it won't install. I've tried "rolling back" updates and then re-updating, still nothing. Would this be a driver problem or am I simply missing something in the settings? Would USB headphones be seperate to the soundcard? Would they work?

Truth be told, I really don't know a whole lot about computers but I'm trying my best to get this sorted through exploring the settings and trial and error. If I'm doing something blatantly obvious... Read more

I'm running windows XP on an old Dell Inspiron 1501 and I'm trying to get my microphone to play directly through my speakers so I can record them both simultaneously. The only answer I've been finding is to tick the 'microphone' checkbox in the volume control playback properties panel, but I don't have a microphone checkbox. There should be a 'microphone' box under SW Synth and CD player but I don't get one apparently.I've downloaded the latest SigmaTel Audio drivers from Dell and despite not having a problem with them before this, I'm inclined to believe that they're the problem. Any ideas?

A:No microphone control in playback Volume Control panel

Okay well of course I find an answer right after posting the topic:
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/t/19295458.aspx
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/p/18112824/18235810.aspx#18235810

Those two pages detail how to get an Input Monitor checkbox which functions just like the microphone one I wanted (although you can only mute it, not alter the volume). I used Instructional Set 3 from the second page, having to add the 'RecMonitorMute' entry as detailed in the first page and I can now hear my microphone input directly through my speakers.

HOWEVER, I'm still unable to record both the microphone and speaker sound at the same time. I thought recording the 'Stereo Mix' channel with the microphone coming through the speakers would work but it isn't and I don't know why. Any ideas?

get the headphones to work.  The headphones work fine with my tablet though.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Hi. Just recently I clicked on my song list to play a song and couldn't get any volume. I pulled up the playback control and the the Wave slider was pulled down. I pushed it up and volume was restored. This had never happened before. I thought the slider only moved with the mouse? I suspect it has something to do with Winamp since it doesn't seem to happen with other players (Media etc.). I have looked everywhere I could think of to see what the problem might be..no luck. I prefer to use MP3Pro as my player. Where do I go to set Pro as my default? Any help on the slider will be appreciated.

Hi

I have a dell windows 8.1. Everything has been fine for a long time and now... no sound. I must admit to never really understanding how sound works on my laptop. After some fiddling around I managed to get some sound - but only when speakers are plugged into the headphone socket. Now my PC controls make no difference to the volume. I think the ss below suggests that I want the sound to go through the 'speakers headphones' but the sound level meter says its using the communications headphones.
This is what I have for my sound card.

The same happens when I stream audio - only works if headphones connected and no control over the column from pc.

Lastly, when I right click on the top one and click test it says 'failed to play test tone'

Can anyone help please?

Many thanks

E

A:sound only works with headphones - no control over volume

The first thing I see is you do not have the correct sound driver. You only have the generic, basic function, Windows installed High Definition Audio Codec (Driver).

First step is to install the correct hardware sound driver. Not enough system spec's provided so I can't research what you need. If its a factory built PC, go to the PC vendor and download the Win 8.1 driver. If its custom built, go to the motherboard vendor for the driver.

I've got a Western Digital (WD 5000) USB Drive, in the past it has taken up to 10 minutes to appear in my Computer, and when it does it often displays folders as empty, or corrupt.
That's all on the one computer in the office that we always have on as a server. When I plug it in to a different machine it does work, but we're getting fed up with carrying the drive around the office to plug into each machine as we need it!

Today I've had it plugged in to the server PC for at least 10 minutes and it's not appearing in My Computer, or Disk Management, but it is in devices list under hard drives, and supposedly is functioning correctly!

It is formatted correctly etc, it's got about 200GB of important files on it. I'm not sure what the problem on this one machine is. Any ideas?

I can adjust the volume with the Wave slider, but the main one doesn't do anything, including mute. Individual applications' volume controls work fine too, just not the main Windows one. It wouldn't be a problem, but it might be the reason why I'm not getting any volume on the Stereo Mix recording option. I have been struggling with getting my SLI to work.

System:

The VGA cards are:
Connected via SLI link.
Connected to power.
Connected correctly on the Mother Board.

My Mother Board is SLI compatible.
My PSU is SLI compatible.
My drivers are installed and up to date.
I have re-installed my drivers as well.
I have updated my Bios as well. (During which my Primary drive got corrupted and I had to start all over)

Nvidia Control Panel is STILL not giving me any SLI configuration options. It detects that both VGA cards are connected and I can select which core to use, but nothing about SLI.

I'm stuck and need to be pointed in the right direction.

Can anyone offer some advice?

Thanks in advance!

A:Nvidia Control Panel doesn't show SLI options

I know you said you've updated the bios but have you checked for settings related to SLI in the BIOS? There may be a setting to enable it.

Also from some of the forums I've read, people have resolved a similar issue by rolling back the Realtek Ethernet driver, apparently this is related to the Z68 boards. May be worth a shot at least since updating the driver would be simple enough.

A:Tecra P5 - Volume control doesn’t work properly

As far as I know volume control in the past was mechanical but now it works on different way and it is controlled by specific tool/utility.
To be honest Tecra P5 is not known to me but obviously it is Australian notebook model and according to Australian support page this notebook model is not supported for Windows 7.

That doesn?t mean you cannot use it but this means there is not software package designed for Windows 7 that can be installed so I think there is no much you can do about it.

I know it is annoying but for volume control you can use Windows option placed in task bar.

Yesterday I reinstalled Windows 7 on my notebook PC. I had to use a Microsoft installation disk because unfortunately, serious errors resulted after I installed from the HP recovery program. Consequently the HP drivers that were installed automatically with the recovery program weren't installed on my system. I had to install several of them from the HP support site. I got everything to work except for the Touch volume control, or the Volume Scroll Zone as referred to by HP in the service guide. This is the device located just above the keyboard that increases or decreases speaker volume when you drag you finger on it. I installed the Quick Launch button driver but that only applied to the mouse and pointer touchpad. I looked at the devices listed in my startup configuration. I saw the synaptics pointing device and the HP quick launch buttons listed. So is the IDT PC audio driver.  What am I missing? Where I can I find it to activate the touch volume control?

Pretty often clicking on my sound icon (Which IS present in the system tray), does not open the volume control slider. When this happens I go to Control Panel but Sound controls won't open from that location either. There's no way to control the volume and must reboot to get it back (temporarily, because it keeps happening).

Do I possibly need driver updates? If so, which one of these is my sound card?

I recently had to reinstall windows XP on my computer. I installed the video and audio drivers that came with the motherboard cd. There is sound and the microphone works, but I can't control the volume normally, it can be controlled as wave.

Also the mixer device appears as SiS 7012 Wave.

I already uninstalled and installed the driver several times from the CD and I downloaded it and installed it too and the problem persists.

Hi, I've read a lot of other posts about the same issue I'm experiencing but have so far been unable to solve.

[I reinstalled Windows 7 using the Upgrade option (not clean install) but before I could do the reinstall it said I had to uninstall Ati Technologies which I could then reinstall after the upgraded Windows]

I ran install for the Catalyst Softward Suite for drivers which had the CCC listed, but there is no CCC option in the install list when I run to install. It just doesn't appear! I've uninstalled ATI Catalyst Install Manager, ran Driver Sweeper in safe mode and then reinstalled but still the CCC does not appear in the list. I've also checked the Windows/Assesmbly key problem too. It's the same problem as this post: Catalyst Control Center missing/Wont install

I have a Radeon 4000 series card.

A:Catalyst Control Centre doesn't appear on list in Install Manager

Anyone? The driver version says it's 8.634.0.0 from 2009...I can't get new drivers on there.

Symptom 1: Xonar D2 Audio Center does not behave normally -> Speaker test does not function. The speaker test function included in Windows under "volume\PlayBack Devices" does function normally.

Symptom 2: Devices within "Playback Devices" are incorrectly named.

How it should look:

How it looks on my computer:

I have tried to install this countless times.

A:Asus Xonar 2D/PM - Playback Devices - Devices Incorrectly Named

Only difference between the D2 and the D2X is one os PCI (D2), and the other is PCI-E (D2X), so you're not missing anything that way. The speaker test not working is something else. You using the latest driver from Asus (Version: 7.12.8.1794), or the one that came on the disk with the card?

Might be worth giving this modded set a try,

ASUS XONAR Unified Drivers 1.64 (post periodically updated) | brainbit

and see if that fixes it. I have a DGX and have only ever used the above since the day I got it as I had seen the reports of how flaky the driver from Asus could be.

Hi,

I was forced to go to itunes 7 when my ipod was replaced (3rd nano in 9mos) - i took HOURS upon HOURS to clean up my music in itunes (titles, artists, genre, etc) My prior version of itunes was working fine, but i was instructed the new one needed to have the upgrade...fool that i am, i believed and followed instructions (and they wonder why us men must try BEFORE we read, ask and follow instructions! )

I reloaded my new nano, went to the gym this morning at 6a only to find it was all garbled and impossible to listen to.

I've read many places online where others are having this same experience. Here's my two questions:

1. Is it possible for me to rollback to the last version of quicktime and itunes prior to the 7.0 release?
1a. Can i rollback or must i uninstall/reinstall?
1b. If i uninstall/reinstall, won't i lose ALL the clean up work i did in itunes?
1c. Is the quicktime version i will want to rollback to part of the prior itunes version download or separate?

If anyone has any suggestions or help please let me know.

FYI - I did try resetting bit rate and so forth with no luck. I'm at 44hz and 16 bit

I recently added several devices to my wireless-g network: Xbox 360, an HTC Smart phone, and an old laptop my buddy gave me (in addition to the 2 desktops that were already on the network). Since doing this, I've had occasional buffering problems when streaming music or video, even when I'm only using 1 of the devices. I suspect that the Xbox (or maybe phone) is downloading updates in the background, even when it's turned off, and that is consuming bandwidth. Is there any way I can see a list of devices that are connected to the network and maybe even the amount of data being transmitted to/from each so I can find the culprit?

The other question I have also relates to the Xbox... when I play online, it says that my NAT settings are not open and that this makes it take longer to connect to other players. What are the risks involved in loosening the NAT restrictions?

A:Solved: Wireless network: list of devices and NAT settings

I changed the port settings as described in this post: http://forums.techguy.org/networking/695571-router-nat-settings.html

And while I was fixing that, I found a list of active IP addresses on the network in the router configuration pages. Turns out the Xbox remains connected even while "off", so it was probably downloading updates. I haven't had any buffering issues in a while, so it's probably done updating.

I seldom want sound when I am on the computer. Hence, I have the "Volume Control" icon on the task bar so that I can easily activate sound when desired. This has worked fine for a long time. However, the error message I include below now appears.

I can't find the indicated icon on the Control Panel. Could this be because I am using the "Classical" display mode? If so, how do I go to the regular "XP" mode?

If there is another way to fix this problem, I sure will appreciate advice.

A:Solved: Volume Control problem

Try the following:

Go to Start -> Settings -> ControlPanel -> Administrative Tools -> Services

or from Start -> Run type in services.msc to launch the services screen.

Find the service named Windows Audio, which manages Windows audio devices.
If this service is stopped then audio and its associated components will not work. Set its Startup property to Automatic so that it starts everytime when you start your system.

Double click on Windows Audio to bring up "Properties" so you can change the startup to automatic, start the service, and click apply.

Hope this helps.

I have recently encountered a problem with my volume control, not in any specific program, but the system tray icon.

Imagine your turning the volume down with the speaker icon, the music in the background is slowly fading it, but when you reach the bottom of the bar, the music is playing as if its turned up all the way, as for turning the volume up, its normal until you reach the top and its not as loud.

Thats my problem, and I'm really hoping someone can help me because its getting really annoying.

Well...I'm having this problem with a few of my games - Counter Strike Source and Half Life 2 Deathmatch. The problem is that whenever I try to change the Speaker Configuration to Headphones, it always reverts back to 7.1 Speakers after I go back in the options to check.

This seems to be related to my Windows sound settings since whenever I change my Speakers Configuration in the Sound window to like Stereo or Quadraphonic or 5.1 or 7.1 Surround, the option the games change respectively to 2 Speakrs, 4.1, 5.1, 7,1 Speakrs.

I don't think that the 2 things should be related meaning I should be able to change my option in game to whatever I want despite what I've chosen in the Windows settings.

Now, since I don't think there is a way to make my game not know what I've set the windows audio settings to, I need to find a way to get my headphones recognized by the OS and have "Headphones" instead of "Speakers". Unfortunately, I have no idea how to do that. I've tried to look for a guide or figure it out myself but with no luck.

This is what I can see in the Sound Options:
I think I've seen while I was looking for a way to fix this, that other people have the "headphones" in their Sound playback tab, but I don't...

A:Headphones as playback device.

If you have a specific headphones port on your sound card/motherboard, try using that. Often times with onboard sound, you'll have a set of ports on the back and then a set of ports on the front. The front ports are usually set to headphones.

Also, try updating your drivers if you haven't already.

A:[SOLVED] **Help** Control Panel -> Internet Options

Hello Jeri, Welcome to TSF!

Please try this workaround (you will need your Windows? XP SP2 CD).

(In the event that you do not have a Windows? XP CD with SP2, you will need to 'borrow' one from a friend or colleague, as the manufacturer's "Recovery Discs" will not work in this instance.)

Insert the Windows? XP CD in your drive. (Hold down the Shift Key to prevent it from starting.)

Go Start > Run ...in the box type in sfc /scannow …please take note of the space between the sfc and the /.

This is the System File Checker...it will scan all the Windows? core system files to ensure that they are in their respective correct places, and if not replace them from the CD.

During the scan you may be asked to Insert the CD, if this happens just go retry and let it do its thing.

One important point: While sfc is running, it is not advisable to do any other work, or have any browsers/programs running on the computer, until the scan is complete. (This process will generally take around 45-65 minutes to complete).

Once finished, remove the CD and reboot your machine...all should be "Normal" (hopefully).

Please post back with the result, or if there are any further queries/concerns.

Kind Regards,

hi. I really don't know what happen or how to explain this, but ill try my best.

ok yesterday i was getting ready to play my music from my dell inspiron notebook when i turned on the music... it was really loud. So on my keyboard, usually i would hold "Fn" key and the "Page Dn" key (page dn key also is used for lowering volume when holding Fn key) to lower the volume. However, the little "Volume Meter" window popped up and the volume wasn't going up or down, therefore i couldn't change the volume. I also glanced to the taskbar and noticed that the volume icon was missing.

I figured if i opened the volume control from the control panel, the icon would come back, but it didnt. In the "Sound and Audio Device Properties" window, in "Volume" Tab, under "Device Volume" i dragged the bar and that helped lower/higher the volume.

I dont understand why it doesn't work when i try to lower/higher the volume using the volume control, but it works when i try it under the "Device Volume".

I restarted the computer hoping everything will be back to normal, but it still the same.

Any ideas on what has happened? is there something wrong with my audio device or whatever it is called?

Thanks alot for any help/suggestions!

It's important for me to get the Advance Tab back since I use this tab in conjuntion with the improved Advance option reg file found in MDGx.com.

About 1 1/2 weeks later, I get another call because the user somehow got Incredimail on her computer and it kept popping up messages, and she can't get into a work-related site (the link wouldn't open, other users in her office can open the link). I removed Incredimail after much searching on how to do it. Their off-site 'corporate' IT personnel mentioned they couldn't help her... a day or two later, I hear that she and her boss tried to do a system restore to fix the issue (system restore came up after reboot saying it couldn't restore to the previous point)....

I just bought a Lenovo Y700 few days ago. There is something that really bother me. My earphones don't appear as a playback device. I checked for disabled devices, and they're not there at all. I read online about fixing it in the Realtek control panel, but they don't help, even though I have the latest Realtek driver. The earphones have no slider in the mixer, there are only speakers even though I plugged in my earphones.  The earphones work fine when plugged in, and the speakers get disabled, but the volume for the earphones would be playing at the same level as speakers before it is plugged in. I need to change the volume whenever I plug in my earphones to get a comfortable level. How can I get my earphones to have a unique volume setting, or a slider in the mixer? System details:Lenovo Y700 LaptopWindows 10Realtek HD Audio This is my Realtek HD Audio Manager. ??

I cannot for the life of me figure out what is wrong with my laptop. I'm running on a basic Windows 7 premium 32bit and have no programs or anything out the ordinary installed.

Whenever I plug headphones in, the sound icon on the task bar shrinks the swoops off to the right side down and changes from the volume of the speakers to the volume of what my headphones should be at. Though when I go look in playback it doesn't show headphones as an option. The speakers work fine but as soon as I try to plug headphones in I get no sound from anything, but the green bar to the side of the speaker option in playback still moves with headphones in.

I know I'm not plugged into the mic jack as I checked that first though if I plug in a mic it will recognize that.

I've tried literally 8 different pairs of headphones so I know it isn't that.

I know nothing is muted, and in playback if I right click to show disabled devices nothing still shows up.

I ran a check for updates and nothing comes up and says I am up to date. I also ran a check in sound which turned up no errors at all for missing drives or anything like that.

Even tried a system restore to an earlier date but my headphones still won't work.

I did notice just starting today that my mouse I have connected in a USB would disconnect and reconnect for a split moment or at least make the little noises though I never had any issues with it actually not working/stopping.

I also had the headphone issue happen for a few moments a l... Read more

A:Sound Playback not reconginizing headphones at all?

Hello NismoZ32. Welcome to the forum.

You need to determine whether the problem is software related (OS) or hardware.
From the tests you have done so far it sounds like hardware.

Just be sure to double check your OS settings. With the headphones plugged in, go to Control Panel > Sound > Playback Tab > click to select the Headphones
Click Configure Button > run through the routine
Right click > Click TEST
Right Click > Properties > Levels Tab > check volumes
Also check the sound chip control panel, usually Realtek. You are looking for anything out of the ordinary or obvious. Test to see if you get sound. If the software shows that test sound is playing but you don't hear it on the headphones then you can safely assume that the problem is in the hardware.

You know the headphones work so that would leave the motherboard (sound chip) or the headphones jack. The problem being in the sound chip only for the headphones but not the speakers is far fetched. So I would focus on the jack. These do break from time to time.

First look for the obvious: crud inside the jack. Blow it out with compressed air.

If you are not technically savvy then I would not recommend taking the laptop apart to inspect, test, and/or replace the jack. You would be best advised to bring it to a repair shop for that.

When I insert a DVD into the player, the options box which normally opens does not do so. In the auto play options box I have checked the action marked "Prompt me each time to choose an option", but it does not do so.

I recently had the DVD player replaced, but I don't think it has anything to do with that, for example when I used to connect my external drive to the computer that options box would open; now it doesn't.

Not a major problem, I know but I would be grateful if someone could come up with an answer.

Thanks, Cozzielex

I have a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000, ver.1.0. It's connected to a Win XP-SP3 desktop. It has 2 problems:
The volume controls take about 15 sec. to load after you press them the first time after boot up.
The Zoom control worked when I first got the keyboard, but hasn't worked in 2 years.
Is there any way to force the volume controls to load at startup so they're immediately available (itype.exe already loads at startup)

Why doesn't the Zoom control work? All it should do is send 'Ctrl +' or 'Ctrl -' to the processor to magnify or demagnify Web pages.

A:Solved: MS Keyboard: Volume control sloooooow to load

My first thought would be to uninstall the current iType software from Add & Remove Programs and then install the latest version from the Microsoft site: http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/natural-ergonomic-keyboard-4000

Hi there recently changed hard drives on my laptop, everything seems fine but the volume control on the task bar is missing and i have no volume now.

When i startup the laptop an error message appears, "unable to load volume" I can still press Fn + Up key to see it on screen going up to max but no sound is coming out.

Any suggestions.

A:Solved: Unable to load Volume control on Startup

Did you open up your laptop and physically change your hard drive or did u buy an external hard drive? because you might have done something wrong if you physically changed it or did you get someone to do it for you? Do the following: Start>control panel>sounds and audio devices and then tell us if you see your audio device in the window that opens up. If you do then go to audio and select volume and if everything goes fine a window will open up that lets you control the master volume. If you don't, go to hardware and list all of the volume/sound drivers you see there. they will be distinguished by their speaker icon on their left.

I like the youtube video. It shows us exactly what you were doing and what happened.

You can access Event Viewer from Start > Run and type eventvwr.msc so you don't have to access it from Control Panel. Look for red errors in System and Application that occured at the same time as your problem. The event logs may contain useful information about the cause.

Outlook Express opens. I went to my "control panel, internet options, programs, email" and only Microsoft products are shown as choices. I would appreciate some help on this.

I'm trying to use my SB270 Bluetooth Headphones. They pair just fine and show up in Devices and Printers. They also show up in my Bluetooth Devices. They however, do not show up in Sound Playback.
All my drivers are up to date and the headphones' software is also up to date and installed. If I double left click the headphones in Devices and Printers, this screen shows up. I can click connect under audio services and the button grays out as if it is working, but after about a minute, the button is back and the status is still "disconnected."
I am using a bluetooth keyboard and mouse which work perfectly, so I suspect the issue isn't with my bluetooth but something about the interaction between Windows 8.1 and the headphones' software. This same pair work perfectly when paired to my phone (Samsung S5), and SO's phone (Motorola Atrix Hd), and our home desktop (Windows 7 Home Premium x64).

I found a thread on seven forums for a similar issue and tried their solutions with no success. At this point, I'll try anything short of re-installing my OS.

Here are my specs if they help.

A:Bluetooth Headphones paired-not connected: no playback

Go to the Sound Panel, Playback section. RIGHT click in an empty are and then check the boxes to show disconnected and disabled devices. See if the Bluetooth headset shows up.

Hi

I have an Ankovo bluetooth headset that I am trying to connect to a Lenovo Thinkpad running a Win7-64 bit OS.
I was able to pair them with the machine as a bluetooth device by doing the following -
1. 1st attempt at pairing the device failed. The device showed up with an exclamation mark in the bluetooth devices window. This seemed to be because windows did not find a driver for this device.
2. I installed the latest BT driver from lenovo's website.
3. This seemed to work so far as recognizing the device driver software was concerned, but the headphones still don't show up in the list of playback devices.

I've read several forums and tried doing several things; most point to the following solution, in that order.

1. Unistall microsoft's native USB drivers (Generic Bluetooth Adapter) from Device Manager.
2. Installing Lenovo's bluetooth drivers.
3. Pair my earphones.

However, each time I try to uninstall Microsoft's driver and install the new one, I get an error which says the installation detects an unauthorized driver and aborts.
Refreshing the Device Manger ("Scan for hardware changes") seems to bring Microsoft's drivers right back.

Does anyone know how I can proceed?

Hello! I'm getting desperate and I hope you guys can help me.

I am running a WinXP SP2 machine, with a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS.

One day, during a Windows session, my sound just stopped working. I tried to play a song in Winamp, and got the message: "Device not found. Please select another device in configuration. Error code: 88780078." The window title was "DirectSound output v2.2.12 error".

Trying to play a song in Windows Media Player yielded a simlar result: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."

Opening Sounds and Audio Devices under Control Panel, I find that in the Volume tab it says "No Audio Device". Clicking to the Audio tab, under Sound Playback, for Default Device it says "No Playback Devices". The area is grayed-out and I cannot select anything. Oddly, under Sound Recording, "SB Audigy 2 ZS Audio [9400]" is listed, and the Audigy MIDI synth is also listed under MIDI Music Playback. Looking in the Device Manager, "Creative Audigy 2 ZS (WDM)" shows up fine under Sound, Video and Game Controllers, and there are no conflicts here whatsoever.
I've tried all of the following fixes:

1) Uninstalling and reinstalling sound drivers
2) Reinstalling DirectX
3) Editing/Restoring System.ini
4) Usin... Read more
