Autorun not working properly

Q: Autorun not working properly

Autorun not working properly. Hello and thank you for any help. I am troubleshooting this PC, the problem is that when I insert a CD, the autoplay box appears... however there is no "autorun.exe" option. The CD has autorun capabilities, because I can put it in my system and it starts the program immediately. I have googled many articles about autorun/autoplay issues and have followed all of the steps on them, but no result. This includes altering the registry settings that deal with autorun/autoplay and of course the basic settings in control panel for autoplay. There is unfortunately no restore points either. Any tips?

Also, I have a video uploaded to youtube to show the issue, but I have not read the rules about posting videos yet.

So I can PM it if it's helpful.

Thanks!

Hello, if you search this forums for: "autorun.exe" you will find several solved threads, perhaps your solution may be within one of those. Also on the odd chance that the autorun.exe may be corrupt, have you already tried sfc /scannow?

Hi everyone, I tried to disable autorun per Microsoft's instructions. They said that there was no way to disable it through Windows interface and that you must edit the registry to disable autorun. I followed their instructions...went to open, "regedit", followed the steps to the CD drive, and entered the value as "0" per their instructions. Problem is when I insert a disk into the disk drive it still autoruns about half the time. It's only about half the time though. What is this all about. If it makes any difference it seems newer software auto runs but old stuff doesn't. Thanks for the advice!

A:Disabled autorun in the resgistry but autorun still working?

A workaround I sometimes use is hold down the Shift key when inserting the CD, the autorun is then bypassed. But this doesnt solve your issue.

Right-click on the drive icon for your CD drive, and select Properties.
Choose the AutoPlay tab, and choose the desired action for each type of CD. For example, choose Music CD, then click Select an action to perform, then select Take no action.

Hi All,

I am trying to figure out how to properly disable autron in windows XP. Is it as easy as disabling the UPNP service or do I need to go as far as editing the registry? I found this M$ link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/967715

According to the link I need pre-requisites inroder to accomplish this lol.. do I really need to apply these security updates (if not already installed) to properly disable autorun mannually from the registry?

Thanks All

A:Properly disable autorun

An easier way is to get Tweak UI, a free Microsoft tool.

The settings are under My Computer > Autoplay > Drives and Types.

ok so i got a new compaq pc and my old polkaudio speakers wont work! does anyone no what the problem is? i no that they are connected properly, and the volume is cranked to the fullest and all sounds still play quietly. the speakers worked properly on my old pc though.

A:speakers not working properly, sound is very low, connected properly, please help!

I think...

1.You may have accidently adjusted you sound configuration settings.
2.You may not have the correct sound Drive (Or none at all). If so check your sound card and browse the web for installable driver (The acctual drivers don't cost anything)

Please God give me strength! I have more hours invested in debugging W7 64 bit than every other OS I've ever used combined.

With that little rant said, let me ask, what on earth do I have to do to have a disk I insert into my optical drive autorun?

I have gone to Hardware & Sound/Autoplay and indicated that I want Software and Games to Install Or Run Program from Disk and it doesnt. This is kinda real necessary as I'm trying to install Acronis backup and while it is inconvenient to install this without Autorun in the future if I should have to recover from a catastrophe Autorun is fairly crucial as my recover disk will need to be recognized and run.

So whats a body got to do to have this work like it's supposed to?

A:Autorun not working

i'm not understanding the issue. If I read your post from the last line backward I have a question: if it is the case of a dire emergency that you are concerned about, that is not a win7 issue, right? that's a bios issue.

it does not appear to me that the Autoplay panel actually addresses your issue. so I learnt something new.... the software/games entry you cite has to do with a filetype, not a physical optical disc
finally, I can't think of any disc i have in my huge pile that starts executing a program, under win 7, when inserted, except for MS Office.... what type of file is the zero on such a disc to tell it to autorun from the edge?

About 2 weeks ago, my computer got a virus... After taking care of everything, I noticed that the autorun had been disabled. Not only does it not ask what I want to do with any device or dvd I insert, but the icons I set up with autorun.inf files refuse to work as well. I am running windows home premium 64 bit, so I don't have the group policy editor. I also tried the auto-fix on the Microsoft website, but it claims it will not run on a 64 bit system. Can anyone help me to get this back to running properly?

Okay. I have gone through the forum and tried all of the fixes suggested for the CD-Rom AutoRun not working. I went into registry edit and all of the settings are correct there. Everything points to the CD-Rom working properly yet it will not AutoRun.

Anyone with any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I was already referred to this Microsoft support page in a previous thread:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;330135&FR=1&PA=1&SD=HSCH

But I seem to have hit a snag. When opening regedit and checking my

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoDriveTypeAutoRun

file, as step 7 suggests, the file is available only in binary, not hexadecimal. (It's labeled as REG_BINARY.) So, I can't edit in a hexadecimal value of 91, as the Microsoft page suggests. The display, when I right-click to modify it, is

0000 FF 00 00 00 y...

I'm not sure where to go from here. Can I somehow this existing NoDriveTypeAutoRun file, or copy a "good" one with a hex value of 91 from my Windows install CD? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm pretty sure this screwed-up reg file is the problem.

Hi...

I have a problem that my autorun is not working. (VISTA)
It used to work fine long time ago...Now, when i insert CD/DVD, nothing happens except the cd/dvd spinning.
And when i have a DVD inserted (a game for example) and i open MY computer, then it sometimes is not responding and dvd drive starts making strange sounds like its gonna start spinning in a sec or something. Nothing happens. i have to eject the dvd to get out of the ''not responding'' situation. I'm sure i have autorun turned on from the control panel.

The light next to the reader comes on indicating it recognizes that I inserted an SD card but nothing else happens, no pop up drive/folder, or any other notice from the OS that I had inserted an SD card. I go to Start/Computer and there is nothing listed. The same applies when I use a USB port.

I've read the other threads on this topic, but none seem to cover precisely my problem.

We installed a cdrw about a year ago, and although the box is checked for autorun, it would never start itself.
We just assumed perhaps that if you have 2 drives, you couldn't have autorun, so live with constantly having to find a link to the prog, or using start>run command, and browsing to find the .exe file for the prog.

Then about 4 months ago, I uninstalled something (can't remember what) and when the message came up at the end saying "these files are still on your comp but was unable to delete them....no longer needed. Delete?"
I ussually say no to that, but I felt brave, so I said yes.
At next boot, scanreg (I assume) put up a message that there was something wrong with the registry (oops!!) and it would fix it (sigh of releif!)

After it did that, both drives autorun was working.

Then all of a sudden it has stopped again.
I can't think of any big program changes at the time it stopped.

Obviously, scanreg runs at every boot (It's on the startup list in msconfig) so if there was something there, it'd tell me, right?

Any ideas on this, please?

(Oh yeah, and the DMA and other things are set to whatever it is windows help says they should be)

Hello fellow Windows 10 likers,

I've customized my Win10 from the start, and I've used an AUTORUN.INF file to have a custom drive icon for most of my drives in 'This PC'.
This is an (old) example of this:

But since a week or so -maybe because of an update or something- the drive icons are not custom anymore.
They have the 'stock look' again:

The AUTORUN.inf file is still there in every drive WITH the right icon, yet it does not seem to work anymore.
This is in the D:/ Drive:

(the folders still do have a custom icon, but that works differently)
Also the J drive (picture 2) is an USB and had an ICON and NAME too, they dont pop up anymore either.
Does anyone have a clue what to do to get my custom icons for my drives / partitions back?

A:Why are my Drive icons not working with Autorun.inf

Hi, I can only comment on the first point.

Each major build upgrade (and potentially in updates) all Windows files are replaced. So any - such as imageres.dll- that have been hacked/customised will be changed.

The same applies if you do an in-place upgrade repair install.

I apply my custom icons using a program- thus I only have to run that to prepare a customised version of imageres.dll once per new major build, and copy that manually into the relevant folder should it be necessary.

I have sort of an odd problem. I have a desktop computer that is connect to the internet wirelessly. Everything works fine there. I also have an xbox360 connected to the desktop via an Ethernet cable. I use this connection primarily to stream movies from my computer to the xbox. Today in the middle of a movie the movie stopped playing and gave me an error saying xbox isn't connected to the computer any more.
I checked the physical connection and everything was fine. I looked at my desktop (running windows xp) and noticed my LAN connection wasn't properly running. It said I have limited or no connectivity. So I tried repairing it, renewing it, disabling and re-enabling it. Nothing worked. In fact I get this error: "An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out."

I also noticed I have a 169.254.xxx.xxx IP address, if that helps at all:
EDIT: Forgot to mention I also reinstalled the driver for the LAN card.

I upgraded from XP to Vista Ultimate. I have all updates both optional and
required. Since the upgrade I've noticed that when I am in IE and click on a
linked video (for example, a .mov file or anything like that instead of
getting the video I get a 404. Every time, without exception. Youtube still
works for me, so I don't know why it wouldn't be a problem there too... it's
only when I actually click on the link to a video. I've trid it in Safari and
it works for me, so the problem is definitely IE.

Also, if I click on a link and it makes a new page pop up, after about 20-30
times of doing this (during the course of the computer being on) IE will not
let me open any other links that create a new window. I tried restarting IE,
but it doesn't work. I also tried starting alternative internet browsers
after IE caused it to not open new windows, but every alternative browser
wouldn't work properly either. This is really getting to be an aggravation,
as I have to restart my computer every single time this happens.

Short of a complete reformat, I really don't know what to do. I hate to
format because I don't want to take a full day out of my life just to fix
something that should have worked properly in the first place. Anything you
guys can advise me on would be appreciated more than you know.

Ok, it was working FINE without problems - autorun would work, and explorer would notice the new cd placed in the drive. However, lately, when I place a new cd in either of my 2 cd drives, windows xp fails to load the volume name for either of the drives. I have to go into the cd and find the setup program, I can't even right click > autorun. It remembers the right-click menu settings and volume name for the previous cd, but will never update it for any new cds.

Before this round of trouble I discovered a problem with one of my graphics cards when they were in SLI with Blue screens and other nasty little things occuring when running Windows; I removed my secondary graphics card from the system to see if I could get a more stable OS, which I did.

I decided to test to see if the other graphics card running on it's own would lead to a stable system, however I was getting zeros on the VGA BIOS bootup screen and other problems before I even reached Windows Vista.

I did sucessfully boot into Vista and enter my password (using the keyboard) and move the mouse around, however once I had logged into my profile Vista began asking me if I wanted to install the drivers for the keyboard and mouse, I selected to update from the Internet and when Vista did not find any drivers for either device it disabled them.
Eventually I got both the keyboard and mouse functioning again by reinstalling Intellipoint pro and the Logitech setpoint.

While using the second graphics card I noted some distortions such as zeros appearing on the VGA BIOS screen during boot up, so I decided to switch out the graphics cards again, again this caused Vista to forget about my keyboard and mouse, I am however able to get onto Vista a combination of a cheap usb mouse I had laying around and the Vista on screen keyboard.

The fix I used previously (reinstalling of Intellipoint and Setpoint) has not works,I have also attempted to manually install the drivers through dev... Read more

I recently purchased a Kingston Data Traveler 2.0 2GB flash drive. I have used in several computers, but the problem reared up after I used it in a coworker's computer and then connected the flash drive to my office computer.

Office computer:

WinXP Pro SP2
AVG Free 7.5
The flash drive worked fine until one day I got gibberish characters for "Open" and "Explore" when I right-click the drive using my office computer.

AVG found VBS/small and deleted the offending file. However, in another computer running Avast, it found the same trojan and deleted it. Still dubious, I ran the BitDefender online scanner and it detected Trojan.Clive.B in autorun.exe instead (found in E:\RECYCLER). I ran PRT and it restored the "Open" and "Explore" after removing the autorun.inf but after rebooting and reconnecting the flash drive, the gibberish is back.

I downloaded clean-autoruns and hijackthis on my office computer. The following are the log files as of today (4 August 2007, 1111AM).

Hijackthis:

I'm assuming this is the correct forum.

My Alt+Tab stopped working suddenly, while I was writing something in MS Word and switching between windows.

As in, the "switching between windows" function stopped working. Instead the windows's menu with "File - Edit - ..." is just highlighting, as if I was just pressing "Alt" only. However, once in a blue moon it does manage to switch between windows, however it does so between random windows and I don'y see the small dialogue at the center of the screen with windows thumbnails.

The Alt and Tab keys seem to be working fine on their own.
However, the AltGr+Tab appears to be working fine, but also not always.
The "Alt+XXXX" option to type in special symbols while holding Alt key is also not working.

I tried plugging in a different keyboard and it works fine.
I tried searching for a solution on other forums, and their answers (mainly, to re-enable Win-key hotkeys in registry) don't help me.
I tried restoring from a recent system restore point (from 4 days ago).
I tried repairing system files (with "sfc /scannow").
I even tried removing and then reinstalling the keyboard drivers.

I have Windows 7 SP1 x64 Ultimate, if this is important. The keyboard is a relatively old PS/2 keyboard.

Nothing seems to help.

A:Alt+Tab not working properly

It looks like a hardware fault if a different keyboard works perfectly.

You could try removing the Tab key and cleaning underneath it :- http://www.howtogeek.com/65073/how-to-thoroughly-clean-your-keyboard-without-breaking-anything/

If that doesn't help then I think you will have to use a different keyboard.

So I'm a pretty hardcore gamer , and I've had this laptop for a year now. I play alot of MMOs so I press the W alot , well lately ive been experiencing issues with it whereas it'll work intermittently . Somtimes it does nothing even after a few presses and other when it DOES work it duplicates Ws . So I popped off the W key , and found some lent inside the key and I also reinstalled the keyboard driver to no avail. I pressed the exposed key button without the W on it and its still responding ONLY partially . Problem still persists , any solutions? Any help is appreciated.

Your best option is to get a replacement keyboard.

Hi

Firsty i'll appologise for this possible being in the wrong section but as i've got no idea what's wrong i'll start with the operating system.

After being away on holiday i return and ran SpyBot to see if my brother's downloading has put anything unwanted on my computer. It flagged up the usual things so they were removed. However it also started to pop up asking about allowing or denying changes to the registry.

I then started to get an error that meant double clicking on icons did nothing and a terminal error which was found in the microsoft debuger. I've no idea which one though as i ran the fix and thought nothing of it. It then prompted to run a malware sweep which took ages and flagged up 7 malicious files. I followed the instructions for removed and now suspect that this removed something from the registry that i now need.

The issue i now have is that nothing appears to work correctly. Firstly the taskbar disappeared, and while i've got that back the minimised windows sit on the top rather than being inside. Secondly MSOffice products like Excel and Word are showing errors about links and lastly i cannot access the web. I've tried the connection of the latter on another Pc and its all fine. I've looked through the msconfig and cannot see anything untoward.

Frankly i'm no computer expert and have exhausted the web but searching for "not sure whats wrong with my PC" doesn't bring many useful topics ... Read more

Check if there is a similar problem with other video files on your computer. Also check other DVDs if they are playing fine. If both of these are playing fine then there is a problem with the DVD and you might want to replace the DVD. Also check if the DVD surface is scratched.

I am wondering if there is a hardware test for dvd-rw's that will allow you to tell if the device is working properly. The BIOS and the device manager recognize it and everything says it is working properly, but i can't get it to read a disk or burn anything. Any help you can offer will be appreciated.
Thanks!!

A:HELP, DVD-RW NOT working properly....

The computer can only "see" that the electronic interface is OK. It cannot "see" if the laser is still working, as that lies beyond the interface.

The acid test is if the drive reads and writes, at times it is easier to try swapping out the drive to another PC to eliminate a software or motherboard issue.

Hello people,
this is the first post on TECHGUY, last week i bought 1 GB RAM(DDR1) specifically to run Vista on Virtual Machine i.e., SUNBOX . I also had ROLLBACK-RX V8 installed. i do not h a lot of free space , 40 GB Maxtor HDD. 20GB for C: n 20GB for D:
On installing Vista on Sunbox, found my C: had only 554MB left. i didn't like the way Vista showed up on SUNBOX. (WAS HOPING FOR A FULLSCREEN). Since i had one snapshot from my first installation of ROLLBACK-RX, I did the Restore by RB n my C: by was back the way it was. I had like 8 GB free in C:
But past 4-5 days, my PC is failing to Boot properly,,,sometimes it would not Boot at all. On entering the BIOS, the screen looks fuzzy. So i replaced with my old 256 RAM, seems to work; but now i want to do Image Restore by Ghost Recovery Disk, which requires min 512 RAM req.
Do u think that 512 Ram is still being used by Sunbox VM for Vista, since i used RB to Restore n did not fully remove Vista from Sunbox. I guess tht VM is still using 512 RAM from my 1 GB, since i did not delete the VM from Sunbox, just restore by RB.

can someone help me with this , on insertin 1 GB DDR my PC fails to boot n screen looks fuzzy.

Hi, I'm using win xp, sp1. When I go to start>run and type in something like cmd to open the dos prompt I see the window come up but it goes away after a second. the same thing happens when i type in regedit. now if I type in cmd.exe or regedit.exe it will work.

Another problem I assume is in the same category is when I get to the dos prompt and try to ping a site it won't do anything just go back to the c: prompt. If i type in ipconfig or do an nslookup it will work tho.

Not sure what to do here or what else to try. Any advice would be great.

hi everyone.

lately i noticed problems while playing games. after a few minutes my frames would drop MAJORLY! im talking from around 100 down to 2 and 3 frames a second! :O so ive been looking into possible problems and along the way i found cpu-z, the program which gives you your computer stats etc. and i found that my RAM frequency is 250.0 Mhz with a max bandwidth of 266 Mhz.

i am puzzled by this because i have 1024mb DDR2 533 :$

i run a -
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+
Asus M2V-TVM
1024 DDR2 533
512 ATI Radeon X1600

can anyone help or at least shed some light on this? i looked in my bios for an option to change the frequency but came up with nothing.

thanks.

A:RAM not working properly :O

Yes. You see with DDR2 this is normal. DDR2 means dual data rate 2. Since your 533mhz is "dual data 2" it's split into 2 lanes of frequency. It's like a 2 lane highway. You've got data running twice at the same time. This gives you good performance because you have 2 streams of data working for you, instead of one. But it is at the cost of dividing the speed of your ram by 2. I don't know why you are getting only 250mhz instead of 266mhz. As far as your frame rate dropping that massively, that's a different situation. Does this only happen occasionally when the game is not hot and heavy but during periods of loading or other such stuff. If your frames went down to 2 or 3 per sec. during play, you would see a MAJOR change in the 'moving picture'.

Hello,

Since I have had windows 8 introduced in our office I have found on my laptop the ~ key (one at the upper left corner before 1) not working properly. I have to long press it (for around 1-2 seconds) to provide ~~~~ or ```` before the key is released. First I thought might be a physical problem with the key, but similar is the behavior found on the on screen keyboard and I have to long click that too.

Thus, I am unable to get a ` or ~ (i.e. with the shift) easily.

Please see if any of you experts could help me detect and resolve this annoying error.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I am having trouble with my CD/DVD Rom on my computer. I tried loading a game that my son got for Christmas and it won't recognize the DVD. If I put a CD in, it comes right up on the screen. I then tried another computer program and it wouldn't recognize that one either. When I search for it in "My Computer" it's not there and if I click on the DVD drive it tells me to put a disk into the DVD Drive.

This is what it shows in my Device Manager: HL-DT-ST DVD+RW GWA4164B

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

i have a USB 2.0 hub that's made by inland. (Check out the link for the product: http://www.inland-products.com/singleproduct.asp?search=usb&partnum=08331) i just connected it to my computer yesterday but it does not seem to work in windows XP pro SP2. i was able to test the hub in windows 2000 since i have 2 operating systems, and it seemed to work. here's a few things that i find weird.. when my computer starts, my hub lights up green where the USB devices are connected. but as soon as windows XP pro screen (the black screen with green loading bar) shows up, the lights on the hub disappears and never come back on even after windows starts. however, in windows 2000, the green lights on the hub continue to stay on and the devices connected to the hub are recognized by windows. but when windows xp starts, it tells me to install a driver for the usb 2.0 hub but tells me there is no available driver for the hardware when i try to install the driver. i contacted inland for this issue, and they told me the drivers should come with all windows XP SP1+ or windows CD's.

should i uninstall SP2 and go back to SP1 to fix this problem? while i was doing a research i found a link that seems to be similar to my problem:

Hello-

Little new here, so bare with me. I have both IE and Firefox on my computer. I had never used Firefox, don't know how it even got on my computer. I have to use it now because IE is not working properly. When I click on IE, my computer gets very slow and the IE window opens, but pretty much freezes up for about 2-4 minutes. Once it opens, it's a little slow, but it works. I started using Firefox because of this, but want to switch back to IE. I have McAfee, it doesn't find anything. I dumped McAfee and tried AVG's free stuff. Found a bunch of stuff and deleted. I'm still having issues with IE though. I have XP in case it matters.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

First of all every time I start my laptop the language changes from US to Us International. So what happens? Instead of putting ' or ^ or ` or ~ or "" I get them always doubled like '' or ^^ or `` or ~~ or "" whenever I try to write something (be it Word, a box in my browser or anything else). I always set it to US when I reload my system but after shutting down, it restarts in US International, which is very annoying.

update: it looks like it''s not working anymore if I change from US to US International. Still doing it !

Another problem that I noticed was that when I have a Yahoo Messenger window opened, I cannot switch to ANYTHING else via Alt+Tab.

And the last thing, that sometimes is the worse and most annoying is that Alt+Tab freezes my Windows until I press Ctrl+Alt+Del and Task Manager opens.

Hope someone here can give me an answer soon because I am going crazy :( If needed I can provide you guys with a HJT log.

Best wishes,
Alex

A:Alt+Tab not working properly

From what people tell me they see the symbols fine, so it''s only on my computer that they look bad.

I will attach an image so that you see the problem.

I am not a great fan IE7. Nevertheless I use it sometimes. of late, I have noticed that the homepage loads correctly but after that no links works. Even if I type a new web address, it stops functioning and restarts. Why is it happening? Do give me a solution. I am using windows vista home premium OS.

Thanks

A:IE 7 not working properly

Try using IE 7 without the add-ons to see if it works better. If not, reset IE 7 by going to the Options, under the Advanced tab.

A:Is my RAM not working properly?

Well its not necessary that your "full" page file amount should be used..

I've 2GB ram too ..and the settings for pagefile are perfectly alright..

You RAM is also properly recognized by windows..you shouldn't have much problem..

and it's a good thing that ram isn't being utlized to its fullest .

Hi.

I have a Sony Viao laptop that has a Matishita UJ-832D DVD ROM. Recently, it doesn't recognize 99% of the CD's I insert. When I put in a CD (burnt or original) it reads it as a blank CD. It bring up the window for: -Open writable CD folder -Burn and audio CD -Take no action.

Can anyone help me? is this a major hardware failure and needs replacement? or Can I fix it somehow?

Thnx

I am running windows 7 and my cd rom is not working properly. It was reinstalled which seemed to help a LITTLE, but sometimes you have to incert a cd 7 or eight times before it will read it. I can see that there is a cd inserted (when I go to my computer I can see the D drive). Just doesn't read them all the time. I have a Dell with a vertical cd drive. When I view it through the control panel it says my driver is up to date.

Did you install the nVidia drivers from their website?

If you used the disc...then that's probably part of the issue. Make sure you get the latest drivers from nVidia's website.

Hi all....

Can I run a test on my laptop to ensure tht my cd burner is working properly? Recently I find that music i burn does not play well in my car. I have not ruled out my car stereo system. I am beginning with my laptop. Some one had suggested to me to burn at a slow speed, which i did and on a brand new CD it skipped. Thanks

A:CD ROM not working properly?

well im going to guess at several things. are u burning the cd as an audio file to play in a car etc? or are u burning it as a data file? what kinds of cds are u using? generic or brand name? and are u using cd-r or cd+r or cd-rw or cd+rw?burning it at a slow speed isnt going to solve the problem.i personally have used memorex cd-r or cd-rw in all of my computers for everything and have never had a problem.how old is your computer? it also may be that your cd burner has bitten the dust or is about to.hope this helps u.

Hi there,
I use windows Xp and had to wipe my hard drive due to a bad virus and since doing so the CD ROM/RW is not working. It will work if you start the computer with the disc in, it reads it fine, but if you then change the disc the computer will either not read it or say "this disc is corrupt or needs formatting". I have tried an external drive and the same think happens. I took it to a repair shop and they said that I needed to change the drive, but surely if it happens to both drives then it is a computer problem?
I would really appreciate any help and please just as kif there is more information needed.
Thanks again

ok this one is really strange. currently i have a toshiba A135-S2276 laptop, there is 1.5 G of ram (2 chips 1g n 512M). i tried to replace the 512M chip with a 1G chip to max out the RAM on the laptop. when i put it in the machine does not recognize it, i know its not the slot since it sees the 512M chip. i even place the new chip in by itself and it is seen. this is the second 1G chip i have tried and they were 2 different brands, the last brand is the same as the other 1G chip i have. is there something else that needs to be done to recognize it. i tried going into the bios but there is nothing in the bios with regards to memory......any ides

A:New RAM not working properly

Some MoBos are fussy about memory speeds. For a few MoBos, if the modules are of different speeds, it won't read them or only the slower one. Other MoBos can handle ram mods of different speeds. Also, and yes this is strange, there is the rare MoBo in which the slots do not address the same size of memory. I had one computer that one slot could hold 1GB max and the other 512MB. Yes, weird but true. I only encountered that once though.

Check the speeds of the ram modules. If they are different check the hardware manual to see if the MoBo needs them to the same.

I'm running out of things to try here. Problem is I cannot connect 2 devices on ide2. If I do it will not post or boot just black screen. All devices work on ide1. If I just put one device on ide2, everything is fine. Tried all combinations of devices, jumpers, cables. Cleared cmos, updated bios (per mobo tech support). Nothing it seems will let me put two devices on ide2. Problem seems to be before system posts. Any ideas?

I have been using a Dell XPS(L502x) laptop since 4 years. Till recently my speakers have been working well. But they started giving a Grrr..... noice whenever I listen to music or see movies from past few weeks. I usually use both speakers and headphones to listen. What is the reason for this? Is this because I use headphones more than the speakers??
Awaiting a response,
Thank you.

A:The speakers are not working properly

Hello. Is the noise only through the speakers, but the audio through headphones  is still clear? If so, it could be that the speakers are going bad --either the stereo speakers or the woofer. Speakers in the XPS L502x seem to fail more frequently than in other models.

Hey everyone,

Last week i bought a new Rig 500 gaming headset from EB Games. I went home and read the quick start guide which basically said "If you are using this for a PC, plug it in and your all good to go." So that's what i did, i plugged the jack into the headphones port on the front of my PC (note: there is only one jack). I found that the sound was amazing but when i tried to test the mic on skype it did not work (note: the mic is part of the headset). So, i unplugged the jack and put it into the mic port on the front of my PC. Now the mic did work but the headset sound did not.

So in conclusion only the mic or the headset sound will work at one time instead of both at the one time.

Please help and thanks for reading,

ItsDropPanda

A:Rig 500 headset and mic not working properly?

I did a quick search on your headset and from what I can tell there should be a Y split cable included in the box. This cable would split the mic and speakers into two plugs so you could put one in the mic & front speaker ports. From a video unboxing I saw, it seems the cable is located at the button in some cardboard. Where the warranty card and other papers are located.

OK so now if my touchpad is switched on the mouse cursor sometimes makes continuous erratic movements around the screen. Turning it off solves this problem. Is this a sign it's wearing out, or is there something I can do to stop this?

A:Touchpad not working properly

What state is your laptop on when the touchpad issue occurred? This happens on my fujitsu laptop when charger is plugged in. After a quick googling, found out that I just had to put the "brick" part of the charger to a good distance away from my laptop. Worked wonders! Issue usually happens with replacement chargers (due to voltage or ampere incompatibility).

Not sure though if this was your case.
