Hey guys,I'm usually pretty savvy with fixing these virus/malware problems with my computer, but this one seems to have me keeling over. I believe it was a Trojan virus that infected my computer. The reason I say this is because a similar screen to the Antivirus2009 virus showed up saying it found a Trojan. It completely froze my computer so I was forced to shut it down. Upon reloading the computer, it got to the black screen after windows loading screen and froze there with a movable cursor. The computer stopped loading as a whole, but the cursor was still able to be moved.First step I tried was f8 upon loading, and then reload windows with the last working configuration - This did not work. Then I loaded the computer in safe mode with networking, ran rkill, ran malwarebytes [both fast and full system checks]. I believe it found the virus as many infected items were found, I removed them then proceeded to restart the computer in normal mode. Same thing happened, computer stopped loading at black screen [one you see immediately before you see your desktop]. I restarted again in safe mode with networking [both safe mode and safe mode with networking work fine]. This time I performed a system restore for 2 weeks prior to this virus. Restarted computer and system restore said there were no changes made.Currently the computer will work in safe modes, but still will not go past black screen. What are my options here? I understand at this point I can repair windows... Read more

Hi Guys,

I am having some trouble with my computer.
Some History-
The PC is now over a year old and has been running fine for about a year.
AMD 3500+
939GT4- SLI-G Mobo
2 GB Twinmoss Ram
200 Sata HD
DVD
6600GT Sli Pixel View Graphics PCIe
Super Flower 500 Watt PSU.

Now about 6 months ago, I started to get the Nvidia card sentinal saying the Graphics Card isnt getting enough power and will reduce its performance to prevent any damage. I checked it all out and it appear to be fine so pretty much ignore the issue.

About 2 months ago my computer, whilst playing a game, would turn off the monitor and shut down, the game in question was City of Heroes. Some nights it would work fine others it would happen twice then run fine again.

Last week the computer was running really slow and had a process running at 99%. I fixed this by deciding to do a complete formatt and resinstall.
I reinstalled everything including the graphics card drivers (the pop up about insufficient power was still there). Everything was running fine until last night when the screen went in horizontal lines of greens and whites.

On a restart it gets to the windows logo with the progress screen and then remains blank.
I then restarted and up came 'the Windows did not start properly last time' and listed the Safe mode options. Obviously normal did not work but i could use both Safe modes.
Now thinking the PSU was at fault, I ran out to get a new 600 Watt PSU and the same thing happened.
I tried a Syst... Read more

Longtime HP laptop owner, I think I've owned nearly 10 of them since the late 90s and have become loyal to HP laptops like many "Apple people" are to their Macs, Iphones, etc and my loyalty was increased after "cheating" on HP and buying ONE Dell laptop (seemed to be a deal too good to pass up at time, bad move!) So, when I recently was ready to do a "Dell Dumping", I clicked the HP box for the brand on my first searches, didn't even want to bother with other brands unless NOTHING looked good and then saw this HP Envy, which I liked for being so thin AND had a backlit keyboard, something I've never had and always kicked myself for not insisting on after buying as I use them often when I'm in bed and not only did this one have a backlit keyboard, its a well lit keyboard and I was SO happy with this new HP! Also should mention this was a "refurbished" laptop bought through Monoprice, I saw the exact same model being sold as refurbished through several sellers and I'm contacting Monoprice next to see if that meant it was an HP refurb unit or Monoprice or some 3rd party job, this was my first refurb laptop or really anything, but have a couple of friends who've sworn by refurbs, for laptops and other electronics. Then, it happened! I believe I had to restart the laptop after it sat on my desk for a while and I didn't know the power strip was off, so I restart it like normal and all I get is the black screen with the blue circular HP logo in the middle with the spinning ... hey guys, i'm having a nightmare with my pc. Kept getting an annoying dialogye bow popping up headed wscntfy.exe and it quoted 0x80000009 and something about not being able to read the memory. i searched for the error and discovered that it was infact a virus. I ran malwarebytes to try and eradicate the problem, it found 28 infections, all of which it was able to delete bar one which required the pc to be restarted. When i booted the pc all i get is a black screen, it comes up after the windows loading page. I can get to the safe mode options page but when i try to load safe mode i get the same black screen. Can somebody please help me as this is extremely annoying

Are you running two video cards? If so this might be why this is happening in safe mode. Try changing to the onboard video card and see if that helps.

Hi? I have a Windows XP Home Edition operating system will not go beyond the blue welcome screen. I've pressed F8 and selected both the "Last Known Good Config"... and the "Safe Mode"... and in both cases it STILL won?t go beyond the welcome screen.

On this forum? I did find this post offering the following help last year:

"Your CMOS may be corrupt. Go into the BIOS setup screen and copy down all the settings as you want them. with the power off, open the unit and move the CMOS erase jumper to the clear position for however long the instruction book say to leave it there. Move the jumper back to the normal position and turn the unit on. The PC should report something like CMOS error -- defaults loaded and the real-time clock will be reset. Go into the BIOS setup and re-enter your desired values. Let us know what happens."

This is a bit greek to me... I'm not sure what or where the "BIOS setup screen" is, or where the "CMOS erase jumper" is. The most I have ever done is install additional memory.

Can anyone offer some step by step additional info ? or have any other ideas?

THANKS!!!

Hi I really hope someone can help me!

I have a fujitsu lifebook with windows 7 on it
I had an error message pop up when i tried to click on google chrome this morning, so I closed it and attempted to re-start my laptop, then AVG pops up telling me I have a virus so I allowed it to "clear" said virus. I then restarted my laptop and it would not go to the login page.

I attempted system repair to no avail, I then allowed chkdsk to run and there were a lot of "security ID repairs", I have also tried f12 and booting from my windows 7 installation disk. Non of these options have worked

I get the fujitsu screen, then the windows loading screen then instead of the log in screen which would be next, I get a black screen with the cursor visable and you can move the cursor but nothing else works and no keyboard shortcuts work

someone please help.
I've been told to restore the OS but i cannot afford to lose all the files on my laptop

A:Laptop wont load past windows page, stuck with black screen and cursor

Since AVG 'cleaned' a virus - all bets r off as the problem could be a leftover from the virus. apparently, a (some) system files r damaged. Going forward, u might not want to run normally as an admin user. That helps keep malware from invisibly installing if the AV does not catch it. 1. have u tried booting to safe mode? If u can get there try this clk Start - type CMD -- rt clk cmd.exe and select Run as Admin when the dos window opens type 'sfc /scannow' let it run retry boot when done. 2. If u can't get there or that doesn't work put ur windows CD in and boot to that. Run the repair install - or it might be called upgrade. Just do NOT do a CLEAN install. That will not erase any of your data. 3. If that does not work If u get a Hiren's boot disk, or something similar. U can boot to that and most likely copy ur data from the drive prior to doing a clean install. This assumes the drive isn't corrupt which appears to be true since it gets to the Windows screen. 4. If not u will have to remove the drive and connect it to another computer as an external HDD to copy the data. 5. If none of the above works - u have come to the complete understanding of the word BACKUP................ good luck

Hi My pc running win XP wont boot past a blue grey blank screen.
Start up beeps, goes to ASUS boot screen and then the Windows XP screen with the loading bar and then to a dark blue/grey blank screen and hangs there.

I am currently able to boot in safe mode/networking.

Any ideas where to look for the fault?

A:XP wont boot past grey screen.

May be one of the start up programs has a problem. You can run MSCONFIG | Startup tab. From there you can ENABLE/DISABLE the programs that start up during boot. I usually make a list of what I see in that tab. Assuming they are all enabled, I will disable them one at a time while I try to boot normally after. The one I disabled last that would cause the computer to boot normally could be the culprit.

#1 Hi, basically this probem arose from nowhere. I came back from holiday 6 days ago and my pc took longer than i remember to boot. Only till i realised the next day and day after it was getting longer and some times not loading past the 'Windows' screen. Each time when it hasn't loaded fully, I turn it off and re-boot pressing F8 to get up safe mode, which doesn't work at all.
It gets stuck on '/avgdiseh' doesn't load past and will stay like that till turned off. Start up repair does absolutely nothing, it asks to do System restore which then errors and reboots, if i press cancel it stays on the 'Scanning' screen for hours.. (8 hours today)

#2 I've now seemed to run into another problem trying to boot from my CD drive. First time I loaded everything correctly got to 'install windows' screen clicked start up repair which did nothing. Ever since that windows won't detect my CD drive even though it opens and did read CD's.(watched a film on it the other day)

I've looked online and other people have had the same problems and clearly i haven't found a solution yet. I've tried cleaning the inside of my case, double checking connections, changing boot options. From what i've read its either a failed HDD, failed RAM (, or failed CD drive in the case of my second dilemma)

I'm just curious as to whether anyone can pin point what the problem is. If its an easy fix or whether it is possibl... Read more

Whats going on guys,
I have a Windows XP Professional Edition and i incurred a spyware virus on my PC, so i made a dumb decision by running MSCONFIG and changing my SAFEBOOT option, I did this because previously I couldn't even get into Safe Mode, it would load the files on the screen

example:
and my CPU would reboot, i even tried the other Safe Mode options (command prompt, networking, etc.) I still couldnt accomplish logging into a Safe Mode. But I could still log into Windows Normally.

BUT Now (after changing my SAFEBOOT option in MSCONFIG, thinking i couldnt log into Safe Mode that way), I cannot even log into Windows XP (PERIOD.) Normally or via Safe Mode, Last Known Good Configuration, or any-other way. My CPU loads up and once it reaches the Windows XP Splash Screen it appears to be normally loading, then my screen goes blank and my system reboots, It reboots in an endless loop, i could leave this sucker on for a whole month and it would still be in an infinite boot loop between the start-up of the CPU and the Windows XP Splash Screen..lol

my problem is similar to this guy's

Hi, I was simply searching videos on youtube of the Reknowned "College Humor" videos for a good laugh. But soon I realized that my PC was running quite slowly and then after a while it completely froze. I couldn't do anything, nothing i did would work . So unfourtunantly i had to hard shutdown it. I've had this laptop for just under a year, here are its System Specs:
Primary hard drive 250 GB
Amt of video RAM 64 MB
Graphics hardware Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
Amt of RAM 2GB
RAM type DDR3
Memory card reader Yes
Motherboard chipset Intel GL40
Its just an Acer Extensa 5635Z without any added components.

And here's what happened after i rebooted it, It comes up with the Boot Up screen and something about some components are having failure or some other fault in the system. And it has two options:
1. Start Startup Repair(Recommended)
2. Start Windows Normally

I go to "Start windows Normally" and it goes to boot up normally, but then after the Windows 7 logo appears it flashes black, then flashes a blue screen but its too quick for me to view it. And then it goes black for a bit and restarts at the Boot up Screen with the Two options.
I go Start Startup Repair and it says loading files, and finishes then goes to a black screen for a bit, i thought it was still doing it , and so i left it for 15~20 minutes and it loads up the Windows 7 login screen, but with no users available for selection.

My computer was originally an emachines, but its pretty much a mutt now.I have changed or upgraded virtually everything in it accept for the mobo and the HDD. This morning, I was changing the case and now it wont boot up. I get stuck on the emachines splash screen and all my fans come on, and the lights on the keyboard flash once, but nothing else happens. I cannot go into the bios, my HDD led does not come on, I can hear the HDD spinning though. if I hold down the tab key while trying to boot, it goes to the boot screen and tries to boot, but gets stuck when it cannot detect the IDE drives. the mobo light does not come on. if i take out the ram sticks, it does make a sound indicating that there is no memory. if i hold down the F11 key while booting, it makes a constant beeping sound. I have tried switching out the PSU, but got the same results. Other than that, I cannot get it to do anything.

is my motherboard fried?

Elaborate on "changing the case". I'm interpreting, I took everything apart and moved moved it to a new box, in which case there's plenty of mistakes you could have made.

I was playing Company of Heroes last night and in the middle of a game the system locked up. Not an rare occurrence, but not really common either. It locked up good so all I could do was do a hard shut down . When I restarted the computer it fired up and went to the initial screen that says ASUS as the motherboard began its thing. Well, that is as far as it got. It just hangs on that screen indefinitely. The fans and DVD drive all power up, and I can insert a CD, but all it does is make a repetitive ticking sound once the CD is in there. My keyboard does not light up and I can not enter set up by hitting delete. Anyone have any idea what my problem is? Is it motherboard or CPU? Thank you.

Hey all,
I'm running a hp pavilion d4790y, with vista 32bit. I startup the computer and there are groups of 4 vertical lines all across the screen, and the computer wont boot past the windows loading bar. The computer was doing this before and had a hard drive laying around i was dying to use. I installed the new hdd and did a complete clean install of vista 32bit, and updated the drivers. The lines stopped and the computer worked perfectly for about 2 weeks and same problem happened again. My only thought at this point is the video card is bad. I put this card in my other pc and the other pc failed to boot at all (no lines). Any wisdom on this matter would be greatly appreciated, and i thank you all in advance.

Hi,
My computer wont boot all the way the animation freezes then cuts to a blue screen.
I have ran numerous scans and looked at other forums. I can boot my computer but only if I tap F10 repeatedly before the animation of windows comes up, a black screen shows up and says something about partition two and to boot up I have to delete /MININT then press enter and my computer starts normally after that. My computer will not boot any other way than this way.
I have found TDSS on my computer, but a lot of scans are starting to say my computer is clean, yet I can't boot it up.

This laptop was working fine.  i went to swap out the hard drive and that's when the nightmare began.  At times we have found that if a laptop does not like the new imaged drive we go in and change the eSATA setting.  I thought that was the case here.  I changed it to RAID and now it won't come up at all.  At first it would only build half of the splash screen.... now it builds the whole dell logo.... and goes to a black screen.

I have this strange problem that will force me to can my AGP X850PE if i cant get it fixed.

This is not a unique occurance but i didnt make the link until this morning.

The problem i was experiencing would be that if i changed the hardware in my pc, when i turned it back on again it would show the boot screens, then the windows xp loading bar, then the prettier windows xp loading screen (black background with the colored logo) then the screen goes blank. In a good boot it would take a few seconds then my mouse pointer appears and windows loads, but in this case the screen actually goes darker, as if all power is no longer sent to the screen but my monitor doesnt state "no signal". Thats as far as anything gets - i can hear windows xp load in the background but i cant be sure that it gets all the way to end. The only choice is a hard reset which sends me to the safe mode menu after.
Today i accidently overloaded a plug socket elsewhere in my house (not a regular occurence) and when i came to turn my pc on, it did the same thing. From this I think that the problem isnt me removing or changing hardware, but my removing of the power cable from the back of the pc. Its causing some sort of problem with the card settings that arent fixed easily.
The way ive fixed it previously would be to reboot in vga mode. The ati Catalyst Control Centre then tells me i have the wrong driver for the CCC but thats probably cos its loading in vga mode using the windows driver.

Hello,

I am encountering an issue of when the Dell optiplex 755 boots up, it boots through the Windows XP logo just fine, once it tries to transition between the logo and loading the system up, it just shows a black screen and nothing else happens. I tried using a bootable Windows XP flash drive to repair the system files and it loads the Windows XP setup ok but when it runs through all of the commands on the bottom of the screen and the last one says "Starting Windows" , it takes me to a blue screen (screenshot below). I have HIRENS and have done a lot of the chkdsk commands to fix the files and everything comes back ok. I tried to clone the hard drive with the same exact hard drive and still the same issue. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks for your help in advance.

Well, I'm pretty sure this is a BIOS thing. (Inside your BIOS which you can access by hitting f8 repeatedly after booting up) There should be a security section. I'm sorry if this isn't spot on I'm very bad at remembering and I don't have the BIOS menu infront of me so bare with me. There is a setting though that lets you put a system password on. It's for extra protection. I don't understand why all of a sudden it's on but that's what it sounds like. So go into your BIOS and find the PW part and disable it.

So my mother had my sister's laptop and I have no Idea what shes done to it. Whenever I try to start the computer I get the Acer intro screen then the screen goes black; forcing me to only restart and use one of the F keys. Also when im on the black screen the laptop starts to burn up.

My sister gave me her laptop and I tried F2 F5 and F10, F10 (I heard F10 gives you a system restore) doesnt work and only brings me to a blackscreen

F2 has nothing there for it to work
and
F5 brings me to a blackscreen or blackscreen with writing on it but freezes after I choose what mode I want to load up.

I was going to install vista on her laptop but her disktray doesnt work.

Is there anyway to fix this? Is it possible that I can install my windows vista on a flashdrive and install that on her computer?

I appreciate your help in advance thank you I apologize for the difficulty in understanding the question due to my frustration. Thank you.

This statement does not sound good. What do you mean by "burns up"?

What are the hardware specifications ? Make/model? What OS was on it originally?

You can try a sytem restore to before the problem occurred. If this doesnt work for you re-install may be required.

Boot off your recovery disk, and see if it has advanced recovery utilities. You will be looking for System restore. If not, try this (one moment while I pull up the tutorial for creating advanced recovery utility disk.

Follow Instructions provided for creating Recovery Disk. You will then place the recovery disk in drive, restart, at "hit any key to boot from disk" hit a key, and boot into recovery disk. Click System Restore. Follow prompts to restore to a point Before the problems occured. DO NOT USE REGISTRY CLEANERS!, and install a top of the line antivirus/antimalware program, and I recommend using Windows Defender also.(malware may be part of your problem)

Create a Vista recovery Disk to Access Sytem Recovery options

Hi, really need all your urgent help as I'm freaking out a bit as its not really my comp, and its fairly new.

Okay my computer turns ON, but makes less noise than it used to when working, and just shows a black screen...doesn't even enter bios.

Recent changes:

Ok, I installed a new Graphics card, radeon hd 5450, installed the drivers etc, got it working perfectly. Then a short while after I also downloaded a reputable program called watt 2.2.5 to clear my windows non genuine message.

Then shortly after both, I was changing my theme, and the computer screen just went blank. Even keyboard wasn't working (I was pressing "caps" to see if caps light would come on and it didn't). So I powered off, now I just keep getting black screen! What has happened? How can I fix this? Really need your help! Thanks

I don't know what else to try....please help! Thanks,Brian

My laptop is a Acer aspire 5738z running windows 7 home premium 64 bit and my problem is my laptop will not start. When I turn my laptop on it starts to run like normal: GPU fan starts, Disk drive kicks in, and the LED for the on button is working but nothing on the screen. I've tried too do alt + f10 for a restore, nothing happened. I've also tried to plug it into a monitor and my tv. Before this occurred it had been turned off during boot (don't ask why, I cannot answer that) and I preceded to take it apart(to fix the overheating issue due to acer not putting fan holes on the bottom of the laptop ((thanks Acer -.-)) and I didn't realise something was wrong with it until I reassembled it and tried to turn it on. So I'm not sure whether is corrupt BIOS, a hardware problem, or corrupt MBR (my own personal diagnosis, don't know whether it's right or not). Also I have tried turning the laptop off taking the battery out letting the motherboard discharge then pressing the power button for a minute, leaving it for a minute, putting the charger in then turning it on.

Thanks. =]

A:Laptop wont boot Black screen no BIOS

You may need to take it apart again and make sure everything is connected properly. Did you follow steps to keep yourself grounded while working inside the system?
As you add and remove hardware, follow these steps for ESD safety:Shut down and turn off your computer.
Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working. If you do not have an anti-static workbench, desk, or pad, you can use your computer tower/case by finding a metal hold in it, such as a drive bay.
Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.

Hello,
I hope someone here can help with this older computer.  This is an Windows XP Hp Pavilion a255c machine that was showing signs of the hard drive going bad due to reallocated sectors. A new hard drive was purchased and using Acronis a clone of the drive was made. The original drive is still booting and working ok, but a little slow at times. Also windows did have some malware programs on the drive which were cleaned up with combo fix malware bytes and some other cleaning programs before the clone.  The original drive still boots fine in the computer but the new drive will get past the bios loading screen and sit there with the cursor.  You can press ctrl+alt+delete to reboot and you can boot to cd's such as knopix or hirens which i have done to check on things.  I have since downloaded the latest bios from HP and installed it using the old drive. I have also ran chkdsk and selecting to repair.  I have also tried re-cloning the drive in case the clone might have gone bad even though no errors were reported. The hang is before it starts to load windows so no f8 for safemode.  From reading other forum posts I suspect that a rootkit might be the issue however with the original drive booting fine I am not sure.

I would like to try to fix the problem rather then a re-install since there are a lot of important programs that would be difficult tore-install again. But the more I have looked and tried that is starting to look like the only opt... Read more

Hi there,
I have ACER 5745 Model, and have windows 7 ultimate and Linux OS on my drives. Windows 7 is in C drive and Linux is in E drive. While I was working on my windows 7 system, the electricity went off and since my battery is dead, so my system shut down immediately while I was working on internet. Well this thing has happened many times before but every-time I was able to restart my system. But since last time whenever I am trying to boot my windows only a black screen appears with an underscore blinking in top left corner. My husband was watching video
when pc 1st just shut off. He cut it back on and began watching same video and again it shut off. When he tried to restart this time he got black screen with blinking cursor in top left hand corner. I have tried running the pre-boot system assessment numerous times and says everything passes but then it hangs up at end when supposed to go into dell diagnostics . I have only gotten results saying pxe-e61-media test failure check cable and pxe-mof-exiting pxe rom. I know my dvd drive is messed up due to it not being able to read my windows cd so I am unable to do a reinstall of vista. Is there anything I can do to get windows to load. Goes straight to black screen after dell logo. Also nothing happens when press F8 so cant boot pc into safe mode. Tried taking battery out and tried leaving it on for awhile to see if would finish loading and nothing. Please help!!

Hello!

I tried Linux yesterday, and wrote over my previous Windows bootloader files with GRUB.

I later that day (as I could not boot into Windows 7), I deleted the Linux partitions with Windows 7 DVD.

Now, after BIOS I just get a white blinking border on a black screen.

I tried

bootrec /fixmbr
Success
bootrec /fixboot
Success
bootrec /rebuildbdc
Success
bootrec /scanos (Total identified Windows-installs: 0)

I also tried the "automatic" systemrepair (1st choice in the DVD menu, with no luck)

Can someone please help me?

Hey everyone,
Well last night I was just enjoying my new computer when the power went off in my house for a second, the power immediately came back on and then.... of course, the same thing happened. No lightning, not even any clouds.
My computer is connected to a brand new (about a week old) cyber power surge protector so I figured everything was ok, when I tried to boot my compuer up again it went trough all of its tests and then a black screen....... I left it for about 10 minutes until I got frusterated and turned it off. I was able to boot up in safe mode but it took forever. I tried a system restore (why not) and then when I restarted I had to wait at the black screen for about 5 minutes and then it booted up.
I have to go through this everytime now and sometimes I have a problem shutting down.
Once everything boots up everything in windows works fine eccept it wont recognize my external hard drive. I can hear that the computer sees it but it wont come up!?!
Do you think that it is a hardware issue now or is it the mobo, or something else? I just dont know! It is wierd that windows still functions fine once it is up....
Could anyone PLESE give me any advice on the situation! Im not exactly an expert when it comes to this so I am completely lost

Thank you!

A:Vista-Black screen on boot up, wont recognize external hard drive

Hi

let if fail and then take it back to where you got it from , assuming its a new PC it should have warranty with it.

My grandpa has a laptop with windows 8.1 on it. He recently fell for a phone scam where some guy tricked him into letting him take control of his computer and pay him hundreds of dollars for security software that doesn't work. All we know is that they turned
off his firewall and added some kind of virus/malware that was alerting him every time he opened up a web browser. Luckily I came for a visit in time to take a look and I ran a few different programs to put things back together the best that I know how. First
I set a recovery point just in case, then I ran CCleaner, taking some bloat off, as well as some programs we were sure he didn't install, nor were used recently. I ran a Herd-protect scan and took a bunch of things off with that and then I used Panda Internet
Security to scan once more before I went to bed. It was working really well before I ran that last scan so I figured I was accomplishing something.
Now to the real problem, which is that now the computer wont boot properly. Specifically. I turn it on. and I get the spinning lights/loading screen for a minute. then a black screen with a mouse on it. The mouse moves fine and it looks just like it does
before it opens the log in screen.
I tried to open Safe Mode but I guess Windows 8 doesn't always respond to F8 while booting? I can't use ctrl+alt+del at any point and it doesn't go into Automatic Repair Mode either. I've been looking at other people's questions and found two that

Hi Everyone.

As the title says about, i have a Dell Vostro 1520 and im running Windows 7 with a 32bit. It is only 2 years only. It started about a month ago. I was on my laptop viewing and deleting some unwanted photos i had. A few minutes later i realized that i deleted a photo that i wanted. So i went to the recycling bin and restored that photo. When i went back to my photos and went into the album, it said something like i do no have permission to access this folder. Please press continue to get full permission. I clicked continue and i got the access i should have. Now i tried many more random folders and the same thing happened. Also when i came out of the folders, the folders had a big pad lock sign on the front of it. After that i shut down the laptop and went to turn it back on. The laptop will power on like normal. I can press f12 for the boot options. which i have already tried many times. I also tried it in safe mode and what-not, but still nothing. I can hear the fan and stuff spinning up like normal. I have also put and CD into the CD ROM and that spins up fine. So after the Dell logo on the screen, it goes black and stays that way with the cursor. You can move the cursor around no problem. I should also add that the battery light is and has been flashing for a good wile. Its flashing orange and blue. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the battery. Because my laptop will not charge with the AC adapter in it for many months now. It will only stay... Read more

Since its a laptop the harddrive is easy to pull out and remove. If you have or can get a usb sata/ide connector hook the drive to that and then to another computer if you have one so you can save all of your important data like pix, music, etc.The laptop battery is going to have to be replaced since its no longer charging properly. It sounds like there might be a short somewhere or a power supply problem along with a bad battery.Or possibly something might be wrong with the screen or video or graphics card.

Boot the computer and press F8 in the Advanced Boot menu choose Last Known Good Configuration.
What is the make and model# of the computer? Go to the manufactures support/download drivers site and download the Chipset and the Video driver for the computer.
Go to Start/Search and type powercfg.cpl. Right click the powercfg results and Run As Administrator. Click Change Plan Settings/change Advanced power settings. Reset your power settings to your liking.

Hi, If you have more than one Memory Module installed, try the following. With reference to the link below, remove one of your memory modules and then see if the notebook will boot.  If it doesn't, try the same module, but in the other slot.  If is still doesn't boot, try the other memory module in both slots, to see if any combination will allow the notebook to start. The procedure for removing these modules is detailed starting on Page 64 of your Maintenance & Service Guide. Regards, DP-K?

When I get to the point where the PC is starting Windows for the first time, I get the splash screen that says, starting windows, the screen goes black, the hard drive churns for a while then stops but I never get a display. No cursor, no functions, nothing.
I tried ctrl+alt+del, nothing,
pressing various keys nothing.

When I restart the computer i get the prompt to start in a different mode. I try safe mode and the PC tells me it can't finalize setup in safe mode and prompts to restart.
If I let the computer sit (overnight), it just goes to sleep.

I have windows XP & use MS security essentials. This am security software said I had been invaded. I checked MS Security program to be certain it was legit. I had program delete the virus & trojan horse. After rebooting I have a black screen, a task bar that is almost empty, a start button. When I push start the left side of window is blank, still have "my computer", "control Panel", etc. When I click all programs it says (empty). I am not proficient at repairing. Any help you can offer would be appreciated. I can go to AOL for my email, as it is one of the icons left on the task bar. I have lost MS Outlook and Internet explorer, although I can use search to pull up internet explorer. Thanks for your help.

A:XP, black screen, no icons, all programs empty

I could be wrong, but I'm guessing your Registry has been corrupted by the malware, or removing the trojan has also removed some important system files etc.

1.) Do you have System Restore enabled? I don't usually recommend using it to revert a system back to working settings when there were viruses involved.. (see this article for more info on why)

..but if you have a restore date prior to the date of cleaning the infection, that may help bring things back to normal.

If you can get things working that way, you can try alternate methods of removal since the virus/trojan will still be there.

----

2.) If the above doesn't/didn't work, do you have a Windows XP installation disk? You can perform a repair install which may fix the damage caused by the trojan/removal of the trojan.

Hi Tech Support Guy Forums~

Turned the computer on today and Windows will not load, gets as far as the black Windows XP page with the loading scroll bar. Nothing happens beyond that. Everything was working fine yesterday and nothing was downloaded or installed to indicate where to start looking. Tried installing 1GB RAM last month to no avail and took it out. Things have been okay since. Have read some posts that suggest using the Windows install CD to repair whatever but I didn't get one with the computer only have the Windows recovery disk. Specs listed below.

System:
eMachines T3418 Desktop Windows XP
AMD Sempron Processor 3400+
2.01GHz 384MB RAM

AntiVirus/Spy/Malware:
CA Antivirus and spyware
SpyBot
Malwarebytes

Internet/Browser:
Road Runner High Speed
FireFox Browser
Juno Browser
Internet Explorer (don't use this as it always has problems.)

Have run all virus, spy and malware scanners today and nothing was found by any of them. Any help, thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

So i left it thinking it had overheated and came back to it to start it up, It started booting up fine until it got to the Windows logo, where the bar travels across the screen, Froze and restarted, It wouldnt stop. Now there is a few possabilities, Either the graphics card has been fried in the past, because it was running way to hot and i had to fit a pci slot fan next to it to cool it, The cpu chip is fried because the cpu fan is faulty and i need it replacing, The PSU cant handle the setup as its quite old asin over a year and only 400W Or; The hard drive has failed (last time i took it in the shop they said it had a corrupt section but it wouldnt effect windows or anything at that time but it may have goten worse).

If any of you have any idea whats wrong could you please post as i am in need of knowing so as i can take it in the shop and get it fixed rather than getting them to spend time and me to spend money finding out what it is.

Sam.

A:Wont go past the loading screen

Go to Safe Mode
Repeatively press F8 on system startup, and log into Windows under Safe mode

Please try this:

Manual steps to run Chkdsk from My Computer or Windows Explorer

Open My Computer, and then right-click the hard disk that you want to check.
Click Properties, and then click Tools.
Under Error-checking, click Check Now. A dialog box that shows the Check disk options is displayed
Use one of the following procedures:

? To run Chkdsk in read-only mode, click Start.
? To repair errors without scanning the volume for bad sectors, select the Automatically fix file system errors check box, and then click Start. (tick)
? To repair errors, locate bad sectors, and recover readable information, select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box.

Note If one or more of the files on the hard disk are open, you will receive the following message:

The disk check could not be performed because the disk check utility needs exclusive access to some Windows files on the disk. These files can be accessed by restarting Windows. Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?Click to expand...

Click Yes to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer to start the disk check.

Wait until Chkdsk finishes Checking / Repairing any faults
Windows will then either restart your computer or continue loading Normally.

I am pretty sure something is wrong with BIOS, and that the sollution would be flashing the BIOS. The problem is that i cant flash it when it wont enter BIOS/Windows or anything else. I can't even boot from a CD.

So i thought, is it possible to connect the laptop to my stationary and flash the BIOS from there?

Ofcause if you got any other ideas i'd be glad to hear em

Appreciate it

A:Laptop wont get past HP screen

When i try pressing f11 after the hp screen is showing, nothing happens. If i tap f11 during the start-up, it says "f11... System recovery" i the down left corner, but nothing happens. (Esc after 7 sec is no good either)

And yes i know flashing the bios is the last thing to do, but i've allready had it to a technitian which couldn't repair it. It's out of garantee so it was a freelancer, not hp themselves.

Windows 7 Home Basic, in a HP DM1, AMD E-350, 4gb RAM, 320 GB HDD.

Last played a movie using HDMI. Returned to use it a few hours later and it took forever to load. Once it did, it took me to an unfamiliar home page.

Turns out I was logged in to a temporary profile. I found my files but did not dare move them yet. Tried F8 and then startup repair. (It said i attached a device and should disconnect and then restart) Then I tried a regedit fix (HKLM .. profiles). After that I cant seem to login even in safe mode. Got a very short message (fatal error) in a BSD.

Help will be greatly appreciated.

THis morning, I ran Ccleaner (had some reg. errors, backed up reg. then "fixed" them).

I updated Malwarebytes but I noticed it got stuck after I hit "finish", so I manually shut off my computer (I didn't want to lose my IE page). I waited a few seconds and restarted. It came up fine, so I double clicked Malwarebytes-my pointer FROZE and had a box of verticle lines hovering over it. So, since my mouse was frozen, I manually shut off, again.

THIS time, when I restarted, the Toshiba logo did not come on but my computer automatically restarted. It restarted 3 times. I thought it may have overheated so I manually shut off and waited for 30 min to cool off.

Now, it is stuck in a loop of restarting. The Toshiba logo does not come up, nor will windows begin. I can not get into bios OR f8 for safe mode. I tried a windows disc that I have, but it will not load from cd, either.

Any ideas???

my computer is a Toshiba Tecra M3; 1.8 mhtz; 1 gb RAM; I think it's dual core; Windows XP Professional with NO BOOT DISK or reinstall disk available. (I tried to use a disk from my son's computer, but to no avail.)

Any help would be appreciated as this is my home business computer. It has ALL of my cattle information on it and I have NO BACKUP. :-(

RecaP: I CAN NOT go into safe mode, can not access BIOS, nor will this restart loop go further than a black screen.

A:Windows XP Pro restart loop: won't go past BLACK SCREEN

Hi and welcome to TSF I think you may have caused your self more problems by running the reg cleaner and if you can borrow a copy of xp the same as your installed version you might be able to run a repair

Hello, I upgraded my 4th computer that was pretty old to Windows 10 today. It booted in fine after install, but it looked as if I was in a sort of safe mode, as mu graphics display driver was apparently not good. Windows told me it was going to install another graphics driver, so I let it do so and reboot, and it has sat at a black screen with no mouse for quite some time. I tried plugging it in to to my TV though HDMI, no luck, tried entering a password after hitting another key, and I tried installing a usb wireless keyboard/mouse combo (the computer dinged which indicated it knew I inserted a usb device), to see if maybe I could get a mouse cursor, and have had no luck. I have two graphics cards, an intel and an AMD so I'm thinking something went haywire there, but I can't figure out how to get into safe mode with Win10, everything I see shows you how to do it from within windows, not when you can't see the screen. Can anyone help?

Also, I am worried about reinstalling past the deadline. If it booted into Windows 10 and I had the OS operational when it said it was going to intall the driver, I'm ok if I have to restore to windows 7 and then reinstall later, right?

Thank you!!
