Try testing the hard drive and the memory. To test the hard drive go to Computer and right-click on the C drive, select Properties, tools, check now. Set a disk check on the next start up. Let the check finish. To test the memory go here:
http://www.memtest.org/
Download version 5.01 and burn it to a CD or DVD. Boot the laptop with this disk and run Memtest86 for at least 7 passes. No errors are allowed...

Hi Guys.

I have a fresh image of Windows 7 on my laptop but it will crash frequently when connect to a VPN.

I have only tested this over WIFI and have yet to test over a wired connection.

I have attached the correct file but I think some files may be missing as I can't seem to get the Diagnostics Tool to do a full run through.

Any help would be appreciated

A:BSOD When Using VPN on HP Folio 9470M

Hi BinaryStar0647.

Your BSODs are caused by Sunbelt Personal Firewall driver, a regular BSOD causer which is disconnected from the market from December 2011.

Seeing your files I realized that the drivers are used by some other thing, GFI Software Firewall.

ITEMVALUEName [00000016] GFI Software Firewall NDIS IM Filter MiniportAdapter Type Ethernet 802.3Product Type GFI Software Firewall NDIS IM Filter MiniportPNP Device ID ROOT\SB_SBFWIMCLMP\0000Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\sbfwim.sys (5.2.51.0, 117.78 KB (120,608 bytes), 15/08/2013 10:37 AM)
And it is the driver that is failing here.

Code:

And not alone, but with other components too.

HiNot sure if my post was noticed as posted over weekend and got no reply so I'm trying again.Trouble started with random system restarts anywhere from 2 to 60min after powering on. That lasted a few days. Than it got worse, it was stopping before system boot with error message: motherboard product information missing. After a soft or hard reset (can't remember now) it stopped displaying anything, only LEDs came on and fan run, all lasting about 5s. I tested RAM in other machine, OK. Pulled HD out, no difference. Put a different HD in, no difference. With DC disconnected and battery out I left CMOS battery disconnected overnight. Now it cycles: LEDs and fan come on for about 5s, all off for 1s and tries again. Any help will be appreciated... Best regards

I just recently purchased a Samsung 500GB SSD and I want to add this drive to my existing storage on my HP EliteBook Folio 9470m. The laptop currently has 256GB of SSD stock on it and I'd like to add an additional 500GB. I see that there is a connection that I'm missing. Anyone have the exact part that would service this connection?  Or try this link if pics don't show up  Pictures of what I'm referring to on my notebook  Thank you all!!

We have 2 x Folio 9470m notebook. 1st has 8GB of memory with the upgraded ram using https://www.skhynix.com/eolproducts.view.do?pronm=DDR3+SDRAM&srnm=HMT451S6AFR8A&rk=20&rc=module  The 2nd only has 4Gb of memory and want to upgrade - I found this other memory cheaper - https://www.skhynix.com/eolproducts.view.do?pronm=DDR3+SDRAM&srnm=HMT351S6CFR8C&rk=20&rc=module  My understanding is the main difference is the what I already have is the Low Power (1.35V vs 1.5V). Does anyone know if Folio 9470m will work with this 1.5V version of the memory? Thanks for your help.

A:PC3 vs PC3L memory for Folio 9470m

From the Service Manual: Two customer-accessible/upgradable memory module slots DDR3 PC3-1600-MHz dual channel support Supports 16384-MB of system RAM in the following configurations: ? 16384-MB (8192-MB◊2) ? 8192-MB (8192-MB◊1 or 4096◊2) The specified memory is 1.5 volt. DDR3L will run at either 1.35 or 1.5 volt but I generally avoid mixing voltages. That is why the DDR3L is working for you and I assume you have 2 of the same in the laptop with 8 gigs.  Can you figure out what is in the 4 gig machine now? I would not mix voltages or density...i.e would not have one module with 8 black blocks and one with 4. Try to match the existing 4 gig module is what I am saying...not the exact brand of memory but the characteristics of it.

A:Hp folio 9470m Bios Pass

Hi @ARtan-Krasniqi? Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for posting ! Folio is a lovely business class notebook. Most business class notebooks (including yours, Elitebook and Probook, etc...) have better security than consumer class computers. You will have to contact HP Support for business for assistance on removing the password. Here is how >> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html>> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/business-support.html  HP Business support should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file and instructions which you can use  to reset the password.  Hope this helps. Let me know if you face any issues.

HI, I have an EliteBook Folio 9470m running WIN 8.1 Ent 64-bit. I have an issue with the Touchpad not working. I have installed the latest driver (sp66111) from HP Support and as a result only the PointStick and associated buttons work and not the Touchpad. Has anyone experienced this and if so what is the fix please? Incidentally, the Touchpad was working at one stage on this OS and ceased to work afterwards. I have re-stalled the OS from scratch withpout success either. Thanks in advance, Vik

The touchpad might be turned off.Double tap on left top corner of the touchpad to activate/deactivate the pad. Also goto Control Panel>Mouse>Device Settings> Click on the touchpad/Luxpad>Click settings and check the settings. If this dosnt resolve then reinstall drivers from hp.com or from Recovery Manager.Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers:http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03430118

I am the owner of a used Elitebook Folio 9470m laptop that I procured from my friend. It is very lightweight laptop, and I really love it.Unfortunately, the laptop came with admin password on the BIOS. I already contacted him, and he has no idea what it is. This was his father laptop, and he also has no idea about it. So, I'm left here with this laptop, but no way to tinker around with the BIOS. Obviously this isn't good! All sources lead me to this area where can I contact HP support to try to solve my problem.  I opened up two cases.  First one, case ID 4779632926 and did not get response. Second, 4779725521 and this is response i got. " I  really apologize for the inconvenience, unfortunately we will not be able to support this case."  I tried to reply to this case with subject <4779725521> and then I received message that case is closed. We are sorry, but we were unable to process your request.

The Case with ID "4779725521" is closed or does not exist and cannot be updated. PLS if there is any chance to solve this, let me know.  I can provide any information you need. Thank you.

Hi, I work in tech support for a company and one of our enterprise laptops mysteriously has lost its "tattooed" information.  The user who had this laptop left the company and when we went to wipe it we discovered this issue.  Upon starting the machine the HP splash screen has in red text on the top left of the screen "Manufactoring Program Mode set 1 of 10" after the splash screen a "Product Information not Valid" screen appears.  It reads: Product Information not validThe following product information programmed into the system board is missing or invalidSYSTEM BOARD (00A)Product Name Product Serial NumberProduct SKUProduct FamilySystem Board CT NumberENTER - Continue Startup For more information, please visit: www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup I know that there is an HP utility tool to "tattoo" this information back onto the machine.  As an enterprise that uses 95% HP equipment (our monitors, mouse, keyboards are the only non-HP equipment) I think that the tech support deserves these types of tools to troubleshoot issues.  Sure the machine boots normally if you hit enter, but it's alarming/scandalous to be presented with that product information not valid screen when powering on a machine.  Bonus points to whoever can provide some reasoning as to how this occurred.

I am experiencing the following issue and hope that someone in the forum as an idea / suggestion. When I have the screen connected via via display port cable with the docking station and I have my laptop docked, I dont get any signal and the screen keeps black. This is independent of the Operating System - I used Windows 7, Windows 8. When my laptop is docked but I attach the display port cable directly to the laptop it works without any problem. I have also realized that with other displays 23'' or 24'' the setup with the docking station works without a problem. So it has to be a cominbination between UltraSlim Docking Station and ZR2740w screen. Any advise what else should be tried?

A:HP ZR2740w and HP Folio 9470m / UltraSlim Docking Station

Update:  After calling HP technical support I and being bounced among various clueless offshore tech support reps, I finally landed on the US-based workstation support department.  Justin looked up the problem and identified it as a known issue and is replacing my monitor cable with one that HP says will work.   Also, in the meantime there is a workaround that I had figured out.  If you don't use the displayport port on the ultraslim docking station but pug the cable directly into the computer it works fine.  There is some inconvienence associated with this as you have to plug it in every time you dock and unplug it every time you undock (and of course the cable always falls behind the desk while you are doing this), but it is okay as a solution while I am waiting for the new cable to arrive.  Will update this post after it arrives and report whether it works.

Hello, After upgrading from Win7 to Win10, my system got stuck when uninstalling MS Office, and nothing worked anymore (File Explorer etc.). I tried to make a factory reset, which got stuck, too, and no OS would be detected anymore. Then I tried to reinstall Win10 64 bit, which brought be a bit of trouble. I have an HP Folio 9470 with a 320 HDD and a 32 GB (I believe) mSATA. During my Win10 reinstall, I ran into trouble and then deleted all partitions on both drives and reformatted everything because I thought that was the method for a clean reinstall. First, I installed Win10 on the 320 HDD, but my BIOS did not appear to allow this (although harddisk was in the legacy boot options), which the Win10 installer had already warned me about, so I could not boot from my HDD and thus could not start Win10. Next, I reformatted everything and installed Win10 on my mSATA. However, the Win10 installer and later Windows 10 only showed a size of 11GB for the mSATA. The installation itself already took up 11GB and there was no space left for necessary drivers and updates, and Windows 10 malfunctioned. My feeling is that the mSATA was larger than just 11GB, but that a part of it is not shown any more after deleting partitions and reformatting. After multiple reinstalls, I do not know what to do any more. Any idea what how I might get a functioning version of Windows 10 on my HP Folio 9470m? Best regardsFrank

So i'm using a Folio 9470m at work on a 2013 Ultraslim Docking station with 2 Display Port connectors, but if i attach two screens to those it only displays them as one device and mirrors the image on both screens. Furthermore if i go into the screen and resolution settings, both identify as screen 1, but i can set 3840x1080 instead of 1920x1080 and at that moment the picture will span over both screens as one. The downside to this is that the login screen, windows i open for the first time, they're all gonne appear in the middle where the bezels are, it handles them as one bigger screen and not as 2 screens that extend each other. I need them to be detected as 2 seperate screens, and so far i have had no success. Has anyone experienced this or knows a solution? I really don't want to connect the second screen via VGA. Can the folio handle 2 display port connections on a dock? Is this maybe the cause?

Please follow the below steps.

Upload the actual crash dump files.

You will find the crash dump files inside C:\Windows\Minidump folder. To copy the dumps, disable "User Account Control" first. Otherwise you may receive a permission error. After disabling UAC, copy and zip all the dumps and create an archive. Either attach the zip with next reply using "More reply options --> Attach files" or use a free file hosting site.

For example -> http://www.mediafire.com/

Publish a snapshot of your system using Speccy.

"Speccy" is a free tool which can list the hardware specs, temperature status, installed Windows updates, HDD SMART info etc of your system. Please read the below tutorial to know how to use "Speccy" to collect system info.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/323892/publish-a-snapshot-using-speccy/

Don't paste the output displayed by "Speccy" here. Instead paste the web link it displays.

Hi,

Lately I've build new system and almost from begin have some problems with BSOD.
First was solved by rising voltage for my RAM. and evrything was OK.

But yesterday I try tu update my Windows, and when instalation (after downloading and reboot) rach 35% first BSOD appeard ;/ and then was just worse. It take me a lot of time to "undo" upgrades. And then Windows log in, but then stuck...i wasn't able to do anything, just move the mouse pointer. So I checked my HDD and RAM (ESTools(samsung) and memtest86+) and got no errors.

I manage (don't know how exacly), and decided to post there my BSOD reports...

PS. BSOD View showed that problem was caused by ntoskrnl.exe, but as I read some posts it may be wrong.

What may casuse this BSODs??

I've occassionally be getting BSOD (either 01a or 0d1) but these are happening more frequently and I know something is wrong. I have attached my logs from SF_Diagnostic_Tool.exe to this post, as well as a screenshot from WhoCrashed, BlueScreenView, CPUZ and Intel Driver Update Utility. From research, this seems to be a driver issue, and related to networking or my Internet connection. Not always but often, ntoskrnl.exe is mentioned on the BSOD.

I have updated my USB wireless dongle drivers, my onboard NIC too, as well as running The Intel? Driver Update Utility and Windows Update. I have also uninstalled Networx (which is known to cause this problem) and I've ran a full chkdsk and used the memory diagnostic program in Windows.

Usually I am web browsing or using an Adobe application like Lightroom or Photoshop but this has happened when I have been gaming too.

Any ideas?

In addition to using the memory diagnostic in windows; i would download, and run memtest86; and run several passes through that to double check to make sure there are no errors. Below is the link to that:

Hi guys,

Starting to get really upset with my new PC. I'm not a complete noob on computers (don't consider me to be a expert either though) and I've been trying several things to resolve my BSOD's.

This PC is now 2 months old and I think I've had like at least 30 BSOD's during this time period.

So, what have I done:

- The most obvious and easy task...re-install Windows completely from scratch. Have done this now 3 times during this time period

- Updated all drivers for motherboard(intergrated sound and LAN),GPU and so on

- Unplugged everything and removed everything from the motherboard and re-inserted everything again...in case there where anything loose or not firmly set

- For some reason I suspected the harddrive at some point along the line so bought a brand new 60GB SSD (OCZ Vertex II) for OS disk only

- Not installed any antivirus software yet

- After re-installation #3 I made sure I only installed the display drivers and not the ATI CCC

The system still crashes, even though it's not that frequent as earlier.

Please help! i don't know what else I can do at the moment. I will make sure the reported problem about the HD Audio is resolved but to be honest I'm not at all convinced this is the accual cause right now.

Hi all,

I am hoping that someone can shed some light on my recent BSOD problems.

A couple of weeks ago I did a clean install of Windows 7 (previously had Windows XP). Over the past week I have received several BSOD’s (see attached dumps).

The two most recent BSOD’s happened when I was playing games on Steam - I need help solving these two BSOD's:
Bug check 0x0000000a and IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

The previous dumps occurred during web browsing. I resolved the BSOD's below updating the applicable drivers as indicated in the minidump file.
Bug Check 0x000000c4 and DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION
Bug Check 0x000000c9 and DRIVER_VERIFIER_IOMANAGER_VIOLATION
Bug Check 0x000000c4 and DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION
Bug Check 0x000000c4and DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION
Bug Check 0x00000050 and PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

Before posting on this forum I checked possible solutions posted by other members – things I have done to date are:
I have run Memtest86 for 8 passes on both my 4gb memory sticks (individual tests) – no issues found
I only use Microsoft Security Essentials (no other anti-virus installed) and regularly run Malware Bytes – no issues found
All Windows Updates are current
System is not overclocked.
I have run the Drive Error Checking tool – no issues found

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

All - I have solved this issue. I guess I am learning as I go but having enabled Driver Verifier it forced the system to crash and allowed me to pinpoint the fault drivers - as per the 4 driver verifier BSOD's above. I have updated / removed the affected drivers and this appears to have solved the problem. As for the recent 2 BSOD's I am fairly sure they were related to Driver Verifier being enabled - I have disabled the verifier and touch wood my system is running great. I will mark this post as solved and raise a new thread if I get any more issues.

I am glad I found this forum - there are some great tips / posts.

I bought my computer last year 7/27/2013. Custom build. Everything was working fine until January 20th this year. I experienced my first BSOD on this machine. I've tried rolling back graphics drivers which were the only ones I had installed recently, and it didn't help because 4 days later the same BSOD happened. The next BSOD didn't happen for another month. And recently this is my 4th one that I am attaching in the log compilation. The other dmp's were erased by me by accident but they all said the same thing when I opened them in BlueScreenView.

I will try reseating hardware and more stress tests when I have time, but I'm really lost here as its such a sparse occurrence that it makes it really hard for me to test in a reasonable amount of time. I'm hoping someone here can see what my inexperienced eyes are missing.

Here's what I do know:
- I didn't install any drivers for a while (month or so?) other than the nvidia driver which I rolled back.
- I am not overclocking and just running stock and default BIOS. Though since my 3rd BSOD I have turned on XMP for my RAM (didn't make anything worse I guess).
- The BSOD happens very randomly. Twice while I was playing fairly low resource demanding games. Once while I was just on desktop dragging/organizing files. And most recently while browsing Twitch.tv on Chrome. There seems to be nothing in common, which is really frustrating.
- It doesn't seem to be related to how long my computer has been running. The most recent ha... Read more

Hello

I've been experiencing the BSOD on my laptop and would like to know if there's anything I can do. It started happening just once a month at first and I didn't really notice it happen but now happens almost every day. It doesn't seem to be linked to any specific action I perform but does seems linked to "ntoskrnl.exe". I've not added any new hardware, except I did replace the battery recently, I can't remember the date I started using the new battery but the BSOD happens with the old one as well.

so far I have tried:
- performed a system restoring as far back as I could, but I could not restore as far back as the earliest crash this year.
- I reinstalled HP update, which updated my drivers and I manually checked they are up to date.
- uninstalling any programs that were installed around the time the crashes started.
- running a deep antivirus scan from bitdefender's own equivalent of safe mode
- checking the hard disk for errors

I haven't experienced the BSOD in safe mode but haven't spent enough time in safe mode to be sure it will not happen.

please let me know if you have any suggestions and if there is anything else I can provide,

Many thanks,

Simon

It seems part of the cause is BitDefender,

Memory 16 gb

The BSOD appear random. Can anybody see something strange in the logs in the attachment.

Thank you all for looking at this thread.

A:Laptop random BSOD Probably caused by : ntoskrnl.exe

Out of the 3 crashdumps you provided, 2 show crashes that look like his video card drivers were involved. The drivers do look fairly old (August 24 2011) so make sure that he keeps em up to date. Other than that, I can say the crashdumps aren't sufficient enough to find exact cause right now.

Before I continue, I want to add that it's probably ill-advisable for him to seek assistance fixing a company laptop by a 'friend', and moreso when that friend is posting details of it to a public forum. Granted, there isn't anything entirely compromising of security from the JCGriff Report, but it doesn't matter. If it's company property, it should be best left to the company's IT department to resolve the issue.

Hi

I have a 1 week old Gigabyte P55W laptop. The only programs I have installed are some games (Steam or Origin), Skype, Avast and CCleaner. Today I turned on my laptop and got the BSOD message 'windows encountered an error...'. The BSOD error was 'IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL'.

Following some advice I saw after a quick search I downloaded BlueScreenView and saw the error was related to ntoskrnl.exe. I have attached the dump file run by following the instructions in the Sticky on this forum. I would be very grateful for any advice - it's kind of concerning that a brand new, supposedly high end laptop is having blue screen crashes after 1 week.

Hi everyone,

I'm having an issue with my new laptop running Windows 10. After increasingly short periods of time, I am experiencing a BSOD seemingly at random, with the error message "DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE". I have looked into my minidump file using BlueScreenViewer and it tells me that the ntoskrnl.exe driver causes the error, which isn't entirely useful. I have also looked at my device manager and there are no yellow exclamation marks suggesting an out of date driver. The BSOD happens more whenever I am gaming, but can crop up at times when I'm just listening to music or browsing on the internet, so I can't be sure of the cause.

That's pretty much the limit of my tech knowledge so I'm pretty stumped on what's causing the issue.

Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom

A:Seemingly random BSOD's on new laptop (ntoskrnl.exe)?

The yellow exclamation marks don't say a driver is outdated, but there are problems with the devices.

Daemon tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known cause for BSOD's.
Please remove Daemon Tools and run the SPTD pass through remover.

Uninstall Daemon ToolsDownload the SPTD standalone installer and follow these steps:
Double click the executable to open itClick on the button shown below

If the button is grayed out, like in the image, there is no more SPTD installation on your system, and you can close the window

Hello, i recently got a new HP Pavillion dv6-6c50us about a week ago.

750GB 5400RPM Hard Drive
- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? - Windows Home Premium 64bit
- the original installed OS on the system? - Yes
- an OEM or full retail version? - OEM

- What is the age of system (hardware)? NEW
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) NEW
Today i received a BSOD while listening to turntable.fm . For those who dont know what turntable.fm is, its like pandora, but theres DJ's that take turns playing music.
i have no idea how that can give me a BSOD.

Having only gotten this laptop a week ago, i was terrifed. So i restarted my computer and restored to a previous point and everything seemed normal, until i noticed my physical memory was at 50%+ when i had nothing open. usually it is at 19%. Windows and BIOS is reading the laptop only having 2GBs of RAM, when it has really 6GBs. So i reinsert the 4GB ram stick, and everything is back to normal. 6 Hours later, i was listening to turntable.fm again and i was able to recreate the same BSOD. im guessing the 4gb ram stick is going bad ? idk.

I re installed my laptop a few weeks ago and installed all the HP Envy drivers recommended, when this problem started appearing. So I'm assuming it's driver related but I have no idea which.

I never get BSODs during normal use, but when I leave the laptop unattended and it goes into sleep mode, it might or might not BSOD with "DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE" or "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". It happens only like 20% of the time, seemingly at random.

Thanks in advance!

We usually ask people to do this command to check if Windows is corrupted. It's the most common used one to check if the Windows files are corrupted. If it'll find errors, it'll restore them.

If you're having a custom customization layer on your Aero, it's likely to get restored to default.

Hi there,

I was wondering if I could please get some help in figuring out why I am getting Blue Screen's of Death
Laptop Details:Laptop Type: Toshiba Satellite L500/013 (this exact model is not that common, it is fairly new)
Bought from Dick Smith 2 week ago
Operating System: Windows 7 - 64 bit OEM (came pre-installed, along with all of Toshiba's programs)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T6600, 2.2Ghz
Video card: ATI Radeon HD4650 (Mobility)
Memory: 4GB, 800Mhz DDR2
Hard Disk Drive: 500GB
Antivirus/Firewall: ZoneAlarm Free Basic Firewall (The Laptop came with a free 60-day trial of Norton pre-installed, I have however removed it as I don't like it very much. I have also disabled windows firewall as this can clash with ZoneAlarm)

Information about the blue-screens:They usually occur once per day, but twice today - within 10 minutes of each other, however only in the last 7 days (possibly coinciding with the ZoneAlarm install)
7 blue-screens have occurred in total so far (according to Event Viewer)
They usually occur when I am away from the laptop (just nearby using my desktop), leaving it open for whatever reason and I notice the laptop blue-screen then restart in my peripheral
I have updated the drivers for my laptop on the mytoshiba website (including the BIOS), my laptop's model number is PSLS3A-01301D
I have included the files from the C:\Windows\Minidump folder (saved as "minidumps.zip")

A:BSOD on Toshiba Laptop, Windows 7, 64bit - please help

There are issues with your Shrew Soft device. I've seen several issues with this program over the last couple of weeks - so I recommend uninstalling it.

Also, go into your Device Manager and uninstall all the Teredo Tunneling Adapter's that are showing problems. When you reboot the system they'll be reinstalled if they're needed.

There is no MSINFO32.exe report in the uploads, please generate that report, zip it up, and upload it with your next post.

The memory dumps point to ntkrnlmp.exe - which is the kernel (core) of the operating system. If it truly was at fault, then you'd be having more problems than just the occasional BSOD.

Please run Driver Verifier according to these directions to help identify the faulty driver:

Quote:

Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter

Hi,

Have a brand new laptop, but in the last 2 weeks, I've been getting several BSOD's. Did the Dell onboard diagnostic which didn't find fault with the hardware.

The BSOD's are completely random, can't really see a pattern. When it happens, it normally happens in quick succession. Had a look with bluescreenview, but because there's so many different files giving issues, I thought I'll check here first.

Attached please find the file, or let me know if I should do anything else.

I've just enabled Driver Verifier, so will see how that goes.

Most nights when I close my laptop to go to bed, I wake up in the morning to either a BSOD, or the laptop will be off. I'll turn it back on to find the "start windows normally" screen, and a dialogue box asking to search for solutions to the error. This happens almost every night for the past few weeks.

I have recently reinstalled/update a lot of my drivers, but nothing is seeming to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had 3 or 4 bluescreens in the last 3 weeks and they always happen suddenly. I updated my graphics driver but the problem still exists.

Dont know if its important but i always install the suggested windows updates. There were some bigger updates in the last weeks(service pack for example).

My computer is pretty clean and i dont think the reason is a virus.

My Laptop randomly got a BSOD a few days ago and it has continued since. The laptop is just over two years old. I tried a system restore but it didn't solve the problem. The BSOD happens no matter what I am doing and sometimes the laptop reboots or freezes instead. Safe mode works perfectly. I tried memtest86 which showed no errors and ran for five passes. Bluescreenview showed ntoskrnl.exe consistently in each dump report. Diagnostics in attachment below. Please help. Thanks in advance.

These crashes were caused by memory corruption (probably a driver). Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.

If you are overclocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
In other words STOP!!!
1-Memtest.

Quote:
*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Any errors are indicative of a memory problem.

If a known good stick fails in a motherboard slot it is probably the slot.

Your crash dumps are not showing any finite probable cause.

Seatool for dos: SeaTools | Seagate download. Burn it in a blank cd. boot from the CD, click on "Accept", wait for it to finish detecting the drives, then in the upper left corner select "Basic Tests", then select "Long Test" and let it run.

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

If both of those tests come clean, enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

   Information
Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

   Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

Hi.

I recently added an installion Windows 7 Pro 64-bit on my home-built system that was running Windows XP 32bit in a dual-boot configuration. Windows XP runs flawlessly -- almost never a BSOD, and not one since I upgraded to a quad core CPU and stopped overclocking the system (I am no longer doing any overclocking -- everything is at stock and automatic BIOS settings).

However I've been having multiple BSODs with Windows 7, almost once a day or every other day. I installed WhoCrashed (Resplendence Software - WhoCrashed, automatic crash dump analyzer), and it tells me that most of my crashes are caused by ntoskrnl.exe, but since that is a part of the OS, I figured there was another problem.

I have not installed a lot of software yet and my drivers should be current.

I then activated Windows Driver Verifier and got a DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION, but I don't know how to interpret the results.

Can someone please look at my minidump logs and point me in the right direction? Please let me know if there is any other information I can provide. Thanks!

A:Win7 64bit, ntoskrnl.exe - DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION

9 memory dumps, from 31 May to 06 Jul 2010
6 different STOP error codes, blaming 8 different causes

Please turn Driver Verifier off by selecting "Delete existing settings" in the first screen.

Driver Verifier detects a violation in procexp141.sys - this is a loaded driver from SysInternals Process Explorer program (in most cases). Are you using that program - and is it constantly running on your system? If Process Explorer is constantly running on your system - then it's possible that a corruption of the program has caused this issue.

If you're not constantly running it, then the Driver Verifier results probably aren't significant. The 8 different causes are significant tho' - and since they span numerous different sub-systems of Windows it's most likely that there is a hardware problem with your system.

Please run these free diagnostics:

Hey guys so I've been getting some random BSOD errors every few days or so. I usually leave my computer on when I am at work or sleep and either when I come home or wake up my computer is off. So I turn it on and it says that the computer didn't shut down properly when I start up. I downloaded the BlueScreenView and noticed I've had some BSOD three times within 10 days. One was a PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA error which I believe was a RAM problem (i bought new RAM and installed it plus OCed it to 2133, but I believe it was making my system unstable so I reset the speed to default and haven't gotten that error again), but after that I've gotten two IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL errors related to ntoskrnl.exe. I did some research online and from what I read it could be a number of problems. I'm just not sure where to start and could really use some guidance and advice. I uploaded my dmp files for anyone who knows how to look at these.

Thank in advance.

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall Alcohol 120% at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :
Double click to open it.
Click this button only:

If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.
Next uninstall Virtual CloneDrive, as vclone.sys is as fatal as SPTD.sys, too.
After doing these two, report the situation back.

Got my first blue screen of death tonight, had 2 firefox opened one watching youtube video another browsing internet. After bsod it restarted i login but just black screen with cursor, ctrl alt delete worked so i shut my computer down. Boot up normally after, check my minidump file, bsod cause by ntoskrnl.exe. Did little search on google find has to do with ram and hard drive.

Downloaded wd data life guard diagnostic for my mechanic drive which is healthy but my ssd on shows failed end to end error rate(value/threshold/worst is all 0) in SMART statue. Im not sure if i can trust this wd diagnostic on my crucial ssd, there are alot of unknown in SMART statue too. Theres no ssd diagnotic for crucial, there is a firmware not sure if it helps. So i downloaded and ran crystaldiskinfo on my ssd, health statues says good, it doesnt say end to end error rate like wd. Instead same ID B4 line says "unused reserve nand blocks" instead. Is my ssd good? i havent ran a test on my ram yet.

I'm getting random Blue Screens and can't figure out why. I'm not running any hardcore programs. I'm mostly just using Microsoft Office and Firefox. The BSOD's seem to happen when I'm in Outlook, Excel or Firefox. Haven't been able to determine exactly which at the time as I'm moving back and forth between them quite often.

I've tried the SFC command and it didn't find anything. I used BlueScreenViewer but not a lot of help. All drivers for sound and video have been updated. I've also updated the firmware to the Crucial M4 SSD version 040H.

Any insight would be great.

I have searched the forum.

Problem 1: BSOD randomly, usually graphics related. eg, flash games in chrome, graphics related software (Mathematica).

Problem 2: I use an internet usb 3G device to connect to internet. Every morning the device will not connect to internet and computer will hang on shutting down screen when I restart. I have to manually turn off and back on again. I think this may be a dying capacitor on motherboard that needs 2 boot's to get excited.

Problem 3: Chrome "aw snap" happens regularly and is usually flash content related, even ad banners seem to cause it from time to time. I have reinstalled chrome, checked plugins etc etc no luck. Internet explorer runs stable, but for example in flash games it seems to momentarily freeze and then catch up with itself again. These are moments where I think chrome would have crashed.

Things I've done:

1) SFC scan. All's well.

2) Memtest. I did 1 pass, it took an hour, everything fine. Will put it on over night tonight.

3)Checked for latest drivers. A... Read more

**************UPDATE 5 ****************

The sequence of events went as follows.
RAM test 1 pass was passed. Verifier.exe caused immediate BSOD on windows start when activated. Trying to hunt down drivers revealed any combo of 3 or more drivers gave BSOD at startup. Randomly decided to recheck RAM. Failed memtest after 27 minutes pass 1. Found one RAM stick that passed after one pass slot0. Got fed up of waiting for other slot's. Devised a plan to use verifier to check the RAM by seeing which combo's of RAM sticks gave BSOD on startup. All combo's passed. And now verifier does not give BSOD on any setting. Began to hate life. Cheered myself up with prospect of sleep. Put all 16 Gb RAM in properly and ran mentest for 18 hours, 6 passes. No error. Still no verifier.exe errors when enabled. Wrote this update.

If RAM failed after 27min one test, and then after swapping around a retest of 18 hours has no error, one would presume the RAM may be ok. Equally, I believe one could say the RAM is suspect. So, if the test is failed it really doesn't tell us anything except there is a problem somewhere. But we know there is a problem since we have BSOD!!! If I hadn't rerun the test I wouldn't question the RAM.

So the question is: how do I categorically ensure that a stick of RAM is good? Is memtest on RAM with an alternative working computer enough?

In summary:

I ran memtest for 18 hours, which was 6 passes. No problems detected. Using verifier.exe with pro... Read more

Hello all,

I have been suffering from multiple intermittent BSOD's for a few weeks now (11 BSODs in less than 3 weeks) on my laptop. For this I have contacted HP support twice and had an engineer visit me and try to rectify the problem. As a result, the motherboard of the unit has been replaced last week which seemed to fix the problem before it starting happening again in the past few days, seemingly worse and more frequent than before.

I have done full virus scans, and the HP engineer has run Memory test, Hard disk test all of which have not given any untoward result. The BSOD's also seem to occur mainly when I am connected to the Internet using my Wireless router.

I have attached the DM Log Collector file with hopefully all 11 BSOD dumps.

Thanks a lot for reading this, have a good one.

Hi every one,

i have this machine which is causing too much headache for me,

this machine was having Windows XP 64 Bit,
and it had a lot of BSOD crashes, then i just decided that it's the time to make the move to Windows 7 for this high performance machine, since i was not able to upgrade to Windows 7 because of some applications just working on Windows XP 64 Bit, but now there is a copy of it,

Any way i'm still having those BSOD crashes,
I have replaced the SSD 500GB hard drive with another regular hard drive with no results,
tried to remove and install nVidia Driver,
tried to install a different version of that driver with no results,
tried to remove McAfee AV and installed Kaspersky Internet security 2013 also no result,

now i have grabbed all the data using SF Tool, and i really hope that u can help me with that issue.

thank you

Hello,

Recently I got a few bluescreens while playing World of Warcraft, which I thought was very weird, because all of my hardware is pretty new. Here is some info about my computer:

Intel i5 4690 3.5-3.9 GHZ
EVGA GTX 970 SSC (super superclocked - the fans are designed not to turn on until card reaches 60c)
16gb Hyper X Fury ram
1tb WD Black HDD
Windows 7 OS

At first, I noticed three bluescreens, then I used EVGA Precision X with a custom aggressive fan profile and the problem went away temporarily, but then the computer crashed later on. I'm not sure if that's relevant or not. I ran a diagnostic on my harddrive and processor, and both were fine. The RAM seems more difficult to test because it said something about usb drives, so I decied to stray away from that unless it was absolutely necessary (and then get help from someone who knows what they're doing!)

I am going to upload the dump files that were saved by bluescreenview. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing these BSOD errors? It started with the +74200 error about a month ago (enduser is just now informing IT) and now it is the +73c40. I've already done several Memory tests to no avail. I'm about to just
reimage but don't want to if it's just a driver issue.

Hi there,

Recently I've been getting BSOD while playing WoW. I'm not sure what details to give other than the dump so I'll just tell you about my computer:

Intel i5 4690 3.5-3.9 GHZ
EVGA GTX 970 SSC (super superclocked - the fans are designed not to turn on until card reaches 60c)
16gb Hyper X Fury ram
1tb WD Black HDD
Windows 7 OS

I noticed that I haven't crashed yet while EVGA Precision X is up (it has a custom aggressive fan curve I made). Maybe this has to do with the fact that it replaces fan drivers, or something? I don't know. I'm pretty clueless as to what's going on because all these parts are pretty new and it only recently started, but it's crashed three times today. Here are the dumps.
Any help you guys can give would be greatly greatly appreciated. Thanks a ton!

First lets start with asacpi.sys yours dated 2005
1-ASACPI.SYS

The pre 2009 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.

Please visit this link: ASUS teK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download P7P55D LE
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download P7P55D LE

Scroll down to the Utilities category, then scroll down to the "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Windows 7 32&64-bit" (it's about the 12th item down).
Download and install it.
Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers to check and make sure that the ASACPI.SYS file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (NOT 2005).

I keep getting a BSOD (Critical_Object_Termination) but have no idea what is causing the issue. I tried in vain to debug my own minidump files but ended up getting nowhere.

So far i have run MemTest over the weekend with 107 passes. I also ran Prime95 64-bit for 4 hours on each of the FFT tests without error.

I have enabled driver verifier (following the guide on this site) and this has not caused anynew BSOD's.

I also get a random BSOD on startup but it has happened so infrequently i have been unable to boot with disable automatic restart on system failure enabled to capture the stop code.

I really could do with some expert advice please.

This is my first post so i apologise if i have missed something important but i have tried to read as much info as possible before posting.

Although I am connected to our wireless network on the Folio 13, there is no internet connection. I can, however, connect to the internet via Wifi on two other household laptops, both of them HP, so I believe the problem is with the Folio itself. I can also connect to other computers on the network on the Folio, but something is preventing it from getting on the internet. I can only get the internet via hardwired ethernet connection on the Folio. I have tried the following fixes, multiple times, without success: -Run the Windows troubleshooter for Internet/Network. It says the connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the internet is broken. (But not on other wifi computers here--works fine.)-Reboot/Reset the modem.-Disable/Renable the wifi adapter (Intel Centrino Wireless N 1030)-Update wifi adapter driver (it says driver is up to date)-Uninstall/reinstall wifi adapter-Remove Wifi Network from list of available networks; reboot, add this network back in-Roll back all Windows updates from the past month-Searched self-help forums for a possible solution And yes, the wifi keyboard light is blue, not orange. Can someone help please?

I keep getting BSODs when I play games for a short while. At first I thought it was a bad installation of Windows, so I did a clean format (full) of my SSD and a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Installation failed quite a few times before finally succeeding. Tried another copy of Windows 7, same install failures. I finally finished reinstalling Windows 7 on my PC. I suspected the RAM to be at fault so I ran MemTest86+ and found a ton of errors. Upon closer inspection of the BIOS settings, I found that my board was clocking my ram in [Auto] mode at 1333mhz instead of the factory 1600mhz (Corsair Vengeance LP DDR3 @1600 CAS9 on Asus Sabertooth Z77). I updated my BIOS to the latest as of this posting and I still have to manually set the memory frequencies for it to run at 1600mhz.

Everything seemed fine for a few hours running prime95. I supposed my PC was fine now after that clean install of Windows 7, but a few minutes into playing Battlefield 3, I BSOD. I am no pro at reading dump files and I was hoping someone could help me isolate the sources of my BSODs. I've attached the minidump files for each BSOD below. Thanks!

Hi,
Unfortunately the installation is counterfeit.
The Key is that of a Dell OEM computer - and the motherboard is a retail one by Asus.

The best course of action is to:Purchase a legitimate Windows 7 licence.
Format the HDD.
Reinstall Windows and activate.

Hi there, I have an issue with non-responsive Brightness Adjustment on my laptop.  Symptom is that brightness does not increase or decrease when adjusting the setting using the FN Key + F9/F10 which are the designated buttons to adjust. There is also no change when I unplug from power outlett (which in theory should make the screen brightness come down). I have installed the latest bio, and have tried looking for new software/drivers, but to no avail... I simply can't reduce the brightness (and it's quite bright - to the point it is uncomfortable to use at night). Suggestions how to handle?

Hello,In my company we have Hp 9470m Laptops. We have noticed some problems regarding the external screen showing some light distortion in a verity of screen types. If I use the DP port it will be O.K but via VGA the problem remains.Using different laptop on the same screen will show a clean picture with no distortion, so the problem is from the HP 9470m.  What can I do?Is this issue is something familiar?Thank you.

I have an HP 9470m Elitebook that will not start up on a docking station. When starting up, it freezes on the "Please Wait" screen before login. I have tried it on 3 different docking stations with the same results. The BIOS are up to date. There is a driver update for the dock available, but it requires it to be plugged into to the dock, and when I dock the computer after start-up and try to install, I get the error message: ?Please connect at least one monitor to the dock and then continue.?  Unfortunately, this computer is also now just about 2 weeks out of warranty.

Hello,
first thing: this is not my pc, so I have experienced just 1 of this bsod (chronologically the last one: this pc had 2 cd/dvd reader, 1 working and 1 not working, to do some tests, I disconnected the working one, at first start the broken one has worked but it gave me that BSOD).

Another info: after the 30/11 an external graphic card was installed (don't know which driver/version).

All the older BSOD (before the 21/01/2015) was not caused by me. I ask you, gently, to have a look at this dumps and help me to find the problem/s. Thank you

A:BSOD differents bsod ntoskrnl.exe in many months

Hello,
some days ago a friend took me his pc because he had got many BSOD (I posted yesterday about that with no luck), many of this BSOD are happened after I have installed in that pc an ATI HD 3650 PCI.

First test group on this machine (Acer T650-99TZ):
prime95: rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4 (after 2 minutes)
memtest86: many errors whit 2 stick of ram, 0 errors when testing the sticks singularly
Furmark: test passed with no errors (30 minutes)
hdtune: no errors

Second test group on second identical machine (Acer T650-99TZ + hdd, ram and gpu from the first machine)
prime95: rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4 (after 2 minutes)
memtest86: many errors whit 2 stick of ram, 0 error when testing the sticks singularly

Third test group on second and first machine (same hw except for the gpu: here I took out the HD 3650 and used the integrated gpu)
prime95: no errors (in 8 hours)
memtest86: no errors (100% passed)

Ram: 2x1gb 1Rx8 PC2-5300U 555-12 hymp112u64cp8-y5
CPU: Pentium 4 524
Obviously no overclock was made on this pc.
Obviously gpu drivers are up-to-date.

Now i'm trying to donwngrade the drivers of the GPU but I think this won't work, since the problem appear to be an incompatibility between the HD 3650 and the other hw.

Can anyone help me to solve this problem? Thanks

After having replaced an SSD the system shows a constant power button led on and the charging led is blinking white/orange.I removed the battery and even the clock-battery, with no help. The symptom shows when having the notebook on AC or/and battery. So I am not sure if the battery is dead, or if the notebook itself took some damage. Thanks for your advice.
