bizarre lockup on reboot/turn on

Q: bizarre lockup on reboot/turn on

I've been getting MANY problems with my computer freezing up on start up whenever I try to turn it on. I'm on a Windows XP Home, Asus k8v delux mobo, Corsair dual 256 Mb RAM, and AMD Athlon 64 3200+

The problem is when it starts up, it's different everytime how it happens...sometimes it happens immediately, sometimes it happens when trying to open programs in the early stages of logging on windows, sometime it happens at logon screen, sometimes it happens 5 minutes after being logged on...but the computer just...freezes...not like your typical freeze, where stuff still runs in the background (like music)...it kinda just dies but stays on...the biggest tell tale sign is the mouse stops working...I use an optical mouse, and the light just goes off...IT's not the mouse because I can't type either...and the fact that programs cease to run anymore. Sometimes it doesn't even lock up...sometimes I get a BSoD, and other times when I boot up, I don't even get to the Motherboard's logo screen...what should be a quick 5 minute or less process, stretches out to close to 20 minutes because it happens numerous times...it's very frustrating and I'm not sure if it's a problem with Windows, or problem with processor, or problem with motherboard...It's a situation I'd like to resolve and would appreciate any help I could get.

Thanks

I've been having a weird problem with my new rig for the past few days. Since Monday, it has been randomly locking up. Just freezing solid, forcing a cold reboot. It's less than a month old, and I have only done a test OC to 3800 and it was stable with the core voltage at only 1.34. I have since brought it back down to stock almost two weeks ago now.

I had a couple of gadgets installed, a drive meter and a network meter since the weekend. The event manager shows a couple of things failing to start right before the freeze up. I'm currently on the wife's machine while mine runs Memtest86 overnight, so I can't post any event log details.

The bulk of my problems started when I set up my home server to share with this machine, and I allowed the files to be accessed offline. Windows has done a sync operation, and every time it does, I can guarantee a freeze up. The event log for those freezes says I have a controller error on hard disk 3. I don't have a hard disk 3. I have 0, 1 and 2, and a DVD drive on SATA port 6 which was not in use at the time.

I have rolled back to Monday using a system restore, and the server was offline tonight. I have disabled almost everything unnecessary, yet I still got a freeze up while editing a post here about an hour ago (Firefox). When I rebooted, MS Essentials came up offline, and said it failed to start. I had to start it manually. I also can't seem to find a good Vcore for the CPU, and when I put it to auto, it wound up being ove... Read more

I describe myself as computer-proficient yet I am puzzled by what problem is causing my Samsung ATIV 500T tablet (with atom x86 processor and 32-bit Win8) to do these two things:

1. Whenever I reboot the computer and after it boots into the 'metro' start screen, a horizontal bar with the following notice appears:

Your PC ran into aproblemThis problem causedyour PC to restart. You can send info to Microsoft about what went wrong tohelp us improve Windows.
Send details Don't send

I bought it on Oct 28th, the day after Win 8 was released and this started happening in December. Every time I restart I will see this. Sometimes I send the details sometimes I click "don't send". Either way the system will make a minidump file. It's mostly an annoyance as it always works fine afterwards. It never BSOD'd.

2. Recently I noticed the computer cannot be turned off! When I turn it off it will first log out and power itself off, with the power light out. But in about 10 seconds the machine will turn it self on again, go through the Samsung logo, straight to the log in screen. This has caused the tablet battery to completely die in its bag during one long trip, though I thought I turned it off. I suspect these two are related. Could it be some driver issue? Could it be manufacturer defect? You help is greatly appreciated.

This tablet has had all the updated BIOS firmware and drivers as pushed by Samsung. I included a zip of the dump fil... Read more

There are several reports missing from the uploaded files. Please generate an MSINFO32 report and a systeminfo report

Here's how to do the MSINFO32:

MSINFO32:
Please go to Start and type in "msinfo32.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Save the report as an .nfo file, then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.
Also, save a copy as a .txt file and include it also (it's much more difficult to read, but we have greater success in getting the info from it).

If you're having difficulties with the format, please open an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt and type "msinfo32 /nfo C:\Users\Public\Desktop\TEST.NFO" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then navigate to the C:\Users\Public\Desktop directory to retrieve the TEST.NFO file. If you have difficulties with making this work, please post back.

For the systeminfo report, do this:

1) Open an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt
2) Type in the following and press Enter:

systeminfo >%userprofile%\Desktop\systeminfo.txt

3) Zip up the systeminfo.txt file from your Desktop and upload it with your next post.

Hello, I am currently suffering from a problem that I absolutely cannot figure out.

Basically, at random times, my system will just lock up (Vista Home Premium, 32-bit, 2gb RAM), and I have to restart using the power button.

The odd thing is, whenever this happens, after the restart, my system clock is reset to 31st December 2002, and has to be readjusted accordingly.

If it were JUST the clock problem, i'd just use internet time syncing and it'd be solved, what's irking me is that it only happens after these random lockups, leading me to believe that there's a deeper problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So my system has been rock solid since I built it. Below are my specs.

CPU = Q6600 Quad Core2 Duo @ 2.4Ghz (will OC)
Mobo = ASUS P5Q Pro
Video = PowerColor 1gb 4870 (AX4870 1GBD5-PPH)
PSU = Corsair TW750W
RAM = Kingston Hyper X 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)
HD = 2 Maxtor 750GB (32mb Cache) in RAID 0
OS = Vista x64 Ultimate

Now, today, I'm playing Crysis, almost at the end, and it starts choking. Then, it freezes. I alt-tab back to the desktop, and see that my memory meter is pegged at 98%. Nothing is comming back, so instead of waiting it out, I hit the hard reset button.

Now, the system won't boot. Error is "No Operating System Found". I can post, but it looks like the RAID controller isn't coming up. I don't recal the 'F' key to hit (or when) to get to the Raid controller. Any advise? This just seems real odd.

A:my laptop wont turn on or reboot

You may need to go into your laptop's BIOS and change the boot order, as soon as you turn your laptop on, look for an option similar to "Press Del to enter Setup".

When you see the option, let the laptop run to the point where it doesn't go any further and reboot it. This time, keep pressing the button you saw earlier - it could be either Del, F2 or any number of keys.

This should load your laptop's BIOS screen. Using the arrow keys on your keyboard, navigate around - being careful not to change any of the options - until you find a section or menu called "Boot Order" or something similar. What you then need to do is fix it so that the CD-ROM drive is above your hard drive in the order, the exact key commands will probably be displayed to you in some kind of help section of the screen.

When you've done this, reboot with the CD in the drive and it should start. If not, try the CD in another computer (just starting up from the CD alone will not do anything to the computer). If it starts and shows a blue "Windows Installation" screen, there's a more serious problem with your laptop.

If this is the case, I would personally recommend sending it back to Philips (or wherver you got it from) and getting it looked at under warranty. Laptop warranties are usually good for a year unless you've dropped it or spilled something on it.

Hope this helps a bit

I have Win 7 Home Premium.

Is there an easy way to disable my wireless connection so that (a) it does not enable itself after a reboot, and (b) I don't need to implement the complete process to re-enable the wireless?

Under normal circumstances, the re-enable after a reboot is fine. I can disconnect WiFi from the system tray, and it reconnects after reboot.

But sometimes, I might want wireless to remain disabled after reboot. For example, if I'm doing a database restore, and the database starts synching after a reboot (such as Evernote), it could cause problems :-)

At the moment, I simply switch off the router until the database restore is complete.

Doesn`t the laptop have an on off switch for wireless ? Most laptops do.

i have connected a dell net book and confirmed that the on the restart that the monitor comes out of the power saving mode.

1.I have run the OS in diagnostic start up to find out if any software might actually do something
2. I have removed every usb item except the mouse and the keyboard
3. I have taken out the VGA card for one boot and then put it in back again.
4. I have connected the DVI cable to a different ports ( first and second)

I have a situation that UAC must be disabled in order to use a web based application features like merging data into MS Word, uploading/downloading within this application. I disabled UAC using GPO to all machines but for the next person
that will log on to the same computer the function of the web application mentioned will not work until the user goes to the Ctrl Panel > User Accounts > User Account Control and click OK on the warning message that says 'This setting will

How can I automate using maybe GPO or pushing a register entry or anything you can think to turn off UAC
without a reboot required or even to do auto reboot after the GPO is applied. When this yellow exclamation in Ctrl Panel is ON with a message 'This setting will take effect after you click OK and reboot' the application will
not work.
This 3rd part vendor are unable to make this application work while UAC is ON and I wonder how other application makers make their app work while UAC is ON.

I'm a newbie to this forum. Just got a new HP Pavilion d6500t with installed Vista Ultimate x64. Has been tough going, but was scraping by until today. I installed Quickbooks (via download) and transferred my data files from my old pc to the new pc. Things seemed fine...then BAM!

The screen became "jumpy" and I received a number of error messages. Could not bring up Task Manager, so I had to shut down the pc manually (turned it off). Reboot involved a system check because of the manual shut-down. System check was fine...but, now my pc is frozen on a black screen with the hp logo in the middle. My choices are the usual: Press <ESC> to enable startup message, <F1> to enter System information...etc.

MY PROBLEM: I cannot go ANYWHERE from here. The F-keys are not responding AND I cannot even manually shut off the pc!

I am a total novice when it comes to pc systems. I need help DESPERATELY. Any suggestions out there?

Hi
I've an ongoing problem which is now very annoying.
At any given time my PC will turn itself off. It's not a controlled shutdown, it's literally as if someone has pulled the power supply. There's no blue screen and I just can't work out what the problem is.
If you then try to turn the PC on after this failure it won't. The fans whir and the lights come on but there are no beeps on start up and nothing is displayed on my monitor.
I can then get the PC to work by removing the power cable completely, waiting 30 seconds and then attempting to turn back on.
Generally it seems to happen during my syncing of my mp3 player, whilst media player is converting to say WMA format. Or during a compression of a ZIP file. It appears to be through cpu intensive applications. It will also do it on occasions during a full virus scan (Mc Afee INternet Security)
I had major problems a few months back as the "failure" corrupted the boot segment of my drive - which fortunately I was able to recover.
The PC is often on most of the day but during light use or sitting idly by it seems to have no problems.
THere are so many options of what could be at fault - memory, power supply, cpu, bad driver. I don't know where to start.
Is there a way I can create a log of activity to try and see what's causing this? I'd like to start logging of anything useful, start a media sync and see what happens.

Minor but annoying problem here.

I have 2 external 300GB hard drives (IDE type) connected via USB. Let''s call them D drive and E drive.

Well, let's say that I have them both turned on while my system is on and for some reason I have to reboot my system. Well, once my system is rebooted and up and running again I can start using D drive right away. But if I want to use the E drive, I have to turn the drive off then back on again in order for the system to recognize the drive after the system reboot.

It's always been this way ever since I got the drives about 8 months ago or so. I only now just decided to post about it since it's only a minor annoyance.

Anyone know why the D drive is ready to use after a system reboot without having to turn it off then on again whereas the E drive isnot?

Would love the E drive to behave like the D drive, of course.

Thanks.

it just to see if anyone else has this issue and knows of a fix. My guess is most people just think their PC is stuck and power off and back on to reboot.
The issue was that when my Windows 7 pro laptop applied a Defender update the laptop took roughly 45 minutes to reboot.
What I found was the issue happens in these situations:

The Defender patch was 400KB or largerA Windows Restart is used to apply the patchIf I applied the patch via a Windows update manually, then issues a Windows RestartIf I allow the patch to apply during a Windows Shutdown, the next power on boot is delayed
It does not happen in this situation:

I apply the patch via Windows Update, then do a shutdown to power off the unit, then power the laptop back
on, there is no issue.
In all instances the patch is applied successfully based on what the Windows update history shows. The patch itself applies very quickly in all situations
To me it seems like a Restart after a Defender update is causing Defender to run a scan before allowing the laptop to boot. The laptop will just
stay on the Starting Windows screen with the 4 colored window for 45 minutes then boot normally. Typically running a Defender scan on the laptop takes about 45 minutes which is why I think the Windows Update\Restart sequence is triggering a scan. Normally

I purchased my HP Compaq 8710p laptop from Purdue University in May of 2008. A little after that it was stolen from me. Thankfully I had it LoJack secured, and they were able to recover it in London. When I got my computer back, however, the Windows XP that it had come pre-installed with was replaced with Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I never had an issue with it for two years until now.

It seems like my computer overheats more often then it should, especially if it is on my lap or the fan is covered at all. This may be normal but even more annoying than that is whenever it shuts down from an overheat or it goes in to sleep mode or I ever have to manually shut it down, it gets to the Windows loading screen where the colors come in from the sides, then freezes, flashes the BSOD and then reboots. When I try to run the Repair, it take about half an hour then says Repair couldn't fix the computer.

Anyone have any ideas?

Here is one for the books..........

I have recently installed a new USB hub (powered) to give me more ports. All went well, the thing installed and everything works fine, except.........

Each time I go to switch the computer on it will not boot up unless I pull the power for the USB first. It then starts normally and I can reconnect the USB. This happens each time I come to my study to start my machine.

Any ideas?

This is quite possibly the strangest error sequence I've come across in all my years working with computers.

My system has issues. Unfortunately. Possibly more than one. But I do know that for about the last month, up until this morning, any attempt to turn on my system would require the user to boot into Windows, wait ~15 seconds for a hard, BSOD-inducing crash (with MEMORY_MANAGEMENT as the cause a majority of the time), wait for the system to reboot and reach the Windows boot animation, suffer yet another hard, BSOD-inducing crash (with no minidump this time, however, since it hadn't fully loaded Windows yet), and then finally reboot once more, after which the system would seem to function perfectly. My one change this morning? I removed one stick of my RAM.

Now, normally this would seem to be pretty cut and dried, but I had similar problems with this setup earlier in the year. I exchanged my RAM twice, then my motherboard, then my RAM again, which is leading me to believe that it might well be a CPU issue (note that my system is not currently being overclocked). But my Windbg skills aren't what they used to be, and I'm currently running on a spotty 3G internet connection, so my options for diagnosis are a tad limited.

About a month ago, I noticed that when I opened a new window on my HP computer, I was not able to close, minimize, move or maximize that window. The only way to close it was to use windows task manager. I noticed a week or so later when on a trip that I was unable to locate the wireless network at the hotel, although I could find it on my wife's computer. I am not mad in the least by this problem, however this device has generated errors seen on SQL through explorer when accessing files. "The object invoked has disconnected from its client" That was generated from me accessing file A, while the system was trying/or seemingly thought file A was file B while the invoked handler just dropped the request because of "what the x is going on here". Any ways today's problem is weirder.

I transferred over 2 directories, and about 20 files. Out of that everything transferred fine. I started to put them in their according directories the three photos in-properly named went to drive VI--->Categorised

10 audio files, 1 html file, 1 folder was transferred to drive XIV out of that 1 audio file, 1 html file remains. This is just a dump drive for downloaded, unprocessed data.

1 folder, 1 video file, 2 subfolders, 2 audio files, 15 pictures was transferred to drive IX my Documents drive for text based files, and projects. This was a media project I developed. Had everything in this one gone.

Not mad because I uploaded that video yesterday so effectively lost only the resources. Same with the other files to to Drive XIV. I transferred the video file over yesterday. I was transferring the resource files over today. Never sorted them yet so threw them there. Vanished as well.

Then my newest project, which I did delete from the Internet was also apart of the deleted files. Permanently gone, never existed. Not a big deal... Read more

Hi all,

This morning I woke up to find my secondary PC with the following BSOD: STOP 0x0000007F (0x0000000D, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). This normally indicates a hardware failure of some sort. This is somewhat strange, as this is fairly new build - new motherboard, proc and RAM with repurposed drives from a previous build. Although I can no longer get into the OS (even via Safe Mode), I was able to salvage the dumpfiles and run an analysis on a few of them. The results are very strange:

I've done a search on the filename in question, and the Google results are very cryptic. I can't figure out what this file is, or why it would even be on my system. It doesn't seem to be part of the core Vista OS. Has anyone ever heard of this filename?

I feel fairly confident that there's not a hardware problem, and I'm pretty close to just doing an OS reimage. But I thought I'd run this by you all to get your opinions. I'm attaching a couple of the dumpfiles for those who wish to take a look at them. I've also done the following troubleshooting:

A few minutes after any startup (after power-off, restart, standby, hibernate):

1. Task bar turns from Windows XP blue to Classic Windows white and Windows XP appearance option disappears from customize in Start-Up menu "Properties."
2. Windows Update icon will flash intermittently upon startup of IE7, but will not permit updates to be installed.
3. Visiting MS Updates website does nothing (screen just stays at "Galactica green eye" search for updates).
4. Affecting sound; Syntel Audio driver will not install sometimes when DVD loaded.
5. Once in while, get a message that a DLL has not installed or will not end.

I'll be damned if I can figure it out. Not even sure if this is a security issue. I can't find anything in the registry to account for the above strange behavior. Started only a few days ago. Perhaps somebody here knows better.

Hello everyone, and a GREAT summer to all!!

I have had to re-install XP (Pro) at least a dozen times in the past month and as of yet I am STILL UNSURE OF WHY.

That being said, what I really would like to hear an answer to today is this:

After my most recent install...the system seems to be running well HOWEVER there is what I would call a "slight difficulty" but in reality it is DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!

Whenever I have to "RESTART" the system after the typical FIRST STARTUP ITEMS appear on the screen, after the opportunity to enter SETUP or CMOS has passed.....the system STOPS until I press F1........it has been doing that long enough so that I don't even worry about it anymore, I simply PRESS IT.............

BUT, NOW....after pressing F1, I experience a somewhat lengthy blank screen followed by a row of vertical white bars across the bottom of the screen......it takes about 5-10 minutes for the bars to sequentially pass by each one joining the ones before it in a solid white bar.........it goes about one-third of the way across and then POOF...it switches to the MORE FAMILIAR repeated, running BLUE BAR which goes across the screen about 6, 7, or 8 times.............THEN XP STARTS the DESKTOP ITEMS APPEAR and all SEEMS WELL.

The ONLY TROUBLE is...I know this is NOT NORMAL......IS IT????????? AND, if it ISN'T......DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT COULD BE CAUSING THIS BIZARRE STARTUP ROUTINE???????

It is SO SLOW TO STARTUP THAT I DON'... Read more

Hello everyone, so I've had a new laptop (dv6tqe-7000) for a few weeks. Just about half an hour ago, I ran into a problem that really freaked me out and still worries me.

All of a sudden out of nowhere, my touchpad buttons and alphabetic keys stop responding; I could still alt-tab between programs and go into task manager but the only way to exit the latter was with the ESC button. Shortly followed by that, my Windows 7 scheme changed to basic.

After 2 minutes, my alphabetic keys and right mouse button started responding again. My left mouse button still wasn't responding, even the tap to click function which I know I enabled, wasn't working. I didn't know if it was a virus but immediately disabled my WiFi just in case.

I restarted my laptop, and thank goodness everything was working again. I can't remember if the Windows 7 scheme changed back before I restarted or not but it is no longer basic.

So I'm not really sure what to think or make of all this; not sure if it was a virus, a program I was using, or something I accidentally enabled. Anyone know what this whole fiasco was all about? I'm really worried about it; not sure if I'd rather have it be a hardware or software problem if it was anything.

The specifics I can recall was that I was playing on an emulator (zsnes) and switched to Firefox to go to GameFAQs to look something up; can't remember if it started happening once I was on the site or if I switched back to the emulator... Read more

Hello, and thanks in advance for any and all help. I am at my wits' end.
I recently installed a program called ExDOS from Tao Computing. It provides some added functionaliy, but didn't meet my needs, so I uninstalled it.

Now, when I try to open a CMD.EXE window, the console window appears for a hundred milliseconds or so and then disappears. I can't enter any commands in it.

If I run command.com, even as administrator, none of the commands give any output at all. I have tried .BAT files with PAUSE at the end, no joy. I have tried running cmd.exe /k from the start menu, also no joy. I tried creating a shortcut on the desktop and then editing properties from there, also no luck: I simply CANNOT get a CMD.EXE console window to open and STAY open, nor do any BAT files work at all.

(Using TCC/LE from JPSoft, I can perform many command functions, such as ipconfig, et cetera, so I'm not completely helpless here; but this is a major annoyance.)

Additionally, the cmd.exe window displays (or rather does not display) the same behavior when I start, hit F8 and click on Safe Mode with Command Prompt: I end up with a blank screen, and have to Ctl-Alt-Del to get to the Task Manager, from where I can shut down and start normally (except for being minus a command prompt, that is).

One thing that seems to me to be extremely bizarre is that when I boot up from NeoSmart's System Recovery Disk, open a command console and navigate to C:\Windows\System 32 and type 'dir cmd.exe',... Read more

After removing a few bits of malware one of my PC's started suffering from repetetive BSOD's. Throughout a typical day I will get them at random intervals, but not often enough to make my system unusable.
There seem to be 3 different BSOD's that I suffer. One relates to my drivers for my wireless card, another refers to win32k.sys and the other is based around ntoskrnl.exe. So far I have uninstalled/re installed said wireless card,I have allowed windows to make a new win32k.sys file and I have tried a few other things like disabling the virtual memory(in case thats causing the BSOD's)

None of these things have helped but the bizarre thing about these BSOD's is that while my screen shows a BSOD my system is running fine in the background. I have had it do it at various times, once whilst I was streaming video and the BSOD came, yet the video was still streaming as per normal( the screen corrupted slightly and I could see the video through blocks of blue) Other times I have been listening to music, and whilst I get a BSOD my music continues to play.In fact I can still use the controls to lover volume/skip to next track, etc. Its as if the system is totally fine, just that I cant see it because its behind the blue screen. Has anyone seen this before? Is there anything I can do so that when the blue screen appears I can get rid of it and carry on using my PC?

Thx in advance

I switched to a different of Key'B and Mouse and upon restart neither worked, so i plugged the orignal ones in and they don't work either.

I can see the wireless adapater for the keyboard lighting up as i tap and another bizarre thing is........ It boots up does a hardware check and then goes to a black screen BUT if i tap any key as it's booting up it dosnt go to black screen it continues as normal start up goes to the windows loading screen but still no use of mouse or keyboard.

I believe it to be conflicting driver troubles from when i whacked the other keyboard and mouse on but i cannot reinstall drivers as i have no use of keyboard or mouse to select.

Hi. I had been having problems with my conection: the windows firewall was blocking it so I had to disable it.
Since then, my IE is acting weird: allt he pages have lost the background formatting and also the font format. The fonts look black and sometimes way too big and sometimes way too small.
the IM have the same problem: the text loses the format and looks bigger after I click "send".
the encoding is Unicode UTF-8 and my screen resolution is 1024x768. I don't know what's wrong with it and I've ahd to change the font size to "Smaller" in order to be able to read.
I attach two screen shots.

My windows, out of the blue, decided that my c: Program Files folder is corrupted and unreadable. This locks me out of pretty much every utility tool on the computer. I can't chkdsk, cmd, system recovery, or anything that could help fix the problem. The odd thing in this is that the computer still works pretty fine, outside of being locked out of, pretty much, everything that could help me fix this problem. This is a problem considering I cannot do system upkeep such as defragging, clearing unwanted data, and more. Anyone have any ideas how to approach and possibly fix this problem? Very much so WITHOUT having to reinstall windows or get a new hard drive. Money is tight and I would most certainly like to not have to shell out the money for a new copy of windows.

When I try to access any partition besides the one XP is installed on, I get this error. (with the drive letter corresponding to whichever drive I'm trying to access of course)

Same thing in safe mode.
I plugged in my spare hard drive, with the same install of XP on it, and can access them fine (took this chance to do a full scan with SpyBot S-D, and Kaspersky, giving no results)

So obviously there's something wrong with my main installation of windows.

Now I've googled all sorts of things, but none are really helpful.
I haven't been copying or backing up any DVDs, I don't have any RAID drivers installed, and I haven't installed any new programs in quite a while.

I did delete an entry from [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run], but I forget what it was, only thing there now is ctfmon.

Could anyone help with this ?

Hi MisterH and welcome to TSF

Did you happen to save a copy of the registery before you made the change?

Also, have you tried a system restore to an earlier date when the problem was not there?

What was the problem that required you to make a change to the registery?

My mobile is not getting connected to my laptop through USB.... And that means neither mobile is getting charged nor any data could be transferred through the USB line.
I tried everything possible. USB drivers are okay in device manager.
I tried different USB cables, through all the three ports in my lappy but to no avail.
Funny thing is I'm able to connect my USB wireless mouse, external laptop cooler, charge & connect other mobiles through all the ports & all the cables I have. And I'm able to charge the mobile through the same USB cable while connecting it to the ac adapter.
I don't know where does the problem lie... Is it in my system or mobile?
Could anyone help me.....

Thanks..

Hi dcloud - that's pretty wierd! It could be a corrupted program, but I'd be warming up your anti-virus and anti-spyware tools for a good, deep scan. Here's a blurb on the first steps:Is your Anti-virus program current and updated? If not you can download a free anti-virus program here (US Link): AVG FreeWhen you have downloaded and installed it you need to go online to register it and update it. (It will probably prompt you to do this.)Once you have installed AVG uninstall your old Anti-Virus software because you should only have one running on your system.Do you have any anti-spyware installed? If not download and update all of the following:Ad-Aware SE from http://www.lavasoft.de/
There is a tutorial on how to run this here: Ad-Aware Tutorial

Spybot Search & Destroy from http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download
There is a tutorial on how to run this here: SpyBot S&D Tutorial

SpywareBlaster from http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
There is a tutorial on how to run this here: SpywareBlaster Tutorial

A-squared complements anti-virus software by specializing in detecting Trojans, Dialers and Spyware.
It is free for private use but registration is required. Download it from here: A-squaredReboot your computer in Safe Mode and run the anti-virus scan and anti-spyware scans there. If you are not sure how to boot in Safe Mode there is a tutorial here: Safe ModeSee if that helps

Hi everyone. I've been trying to install my audio recording software(Cubase) but the installer just hangs at the splash screen before I can do anything. It used to install fine on my XP machine and it's said to be compatible with Vista. I'm on a q6600 with 4gb of ram and running Home premium. Running it with xp compatibility mode doesn't work and neither does running it with admin rights(I'm on admin account anyway). I also tried it with UAC off. But it works on my friend's dell xps laptop with vista home premium, installs and runs fine. Doesn't hang on the installer splash screen. Naturally this made me think it was due to my hardware BUT I actually got the installer working in vista home premium under MS Virtual pc 2007. I've also tried booting up into safe mode and trying it to no avail. It's just so confusing. Is there anything else I can try?

Hello. I'm using Windows XP on a HP laptop, and I've been using this laptop since 2006. I've never had problems with it until now. First off, I'm getting the "Blue Screen of Death." I'm getting a STOP: 0x0000007E (0x0000005, 0xF97F4700, 0xF99111E8, 0xF9910EE4) error at this screen. I've been rummaging through the forums, trying to find a solution to this, but my problem seems different. Safe mode is not working! When I get the chance to start up the Administrator or my personal xp account (the screen where you put in your password) my computer automatically gets the blue screen again! I don't know what to do, I've tried everything. I don't know how I can fix this problem without even being able to boot in safe mode! I would really appreciate any help that was brought forward.

Most laptops don't have Safemode enabled. Go into the Bios and look for it. Enable it and backout. When you have finished with Safemode go back into the Bios and unenable it. if you don't it will keep booting into Safemode. And therefore the reason why it's not enabled.

i would just go to a drivers site, look up your modem, and install the driver. reboot, and see if it works. i thin i get most of my drivers from driverguide.com. free registration. and lots of drivers for almost anything. and i'd be confident in recommending it more now than ever before because of this peculiar situation i put myself in one day.

one day i felt the need to install 2 os's unto a computer that orignally came with xp. so i added 98 to it, and of course, theres no way 98 is gonna have the drivers for all the new hardware on my computer which came out in 2003!

the modem, the video, the sound, everything was out. lol. so i went to driver guide, got all the things i could get, and man, now 98 is busting through and kicking butt! i love 98. but i mostly use xp on that computer so i rarely switch to 98 lol

Well basically it all started when one of PC's broke. I thought this was due to a HDD problem which could be caused by a defective CMOS battery, so I decided to change it. Since I didn't have any other CR2032 battery left in the house, I decided to take the one from my other computer's motherboard. It turned out it wasn't the battery after all, hence I proceeded to put the the battery back. Once it was done I turned on my pc, but for some reason my screen didn't receive any signal from the graphic card. It would be logical to conclude that my screen broke after an inaccurate cable manipulation during its removal. It turned out to be false, since it didn't give any signal on my other screen either. Then I thought that my graphic card burned. It didn't. It worked perfectly on my computer. It decided to give it a rest for a while. Why not? When I put it back, it magically worked. But it froze on the motherboard loading screen. Restarted; and it didn't work again.

So basically I'm out of ideas. What could it possibly be? Is there any way I could fix this?

Thanks in advance.

To start off, I had Windows 7 Professional loaded and working on a HP dv6700CTO. I upgraded from Windows Vista Ultimate.

I had win7 working for about two days until one morning I opened my laptop lid and it gave me a black screen with the error "Operating System not found." I started the laptop up again and it got to the screen stating Starting Windows and just hung there. I tried to reinstall win7 from the original bootable flash drive that I used and when I get to choosing the hard drive to install/format, It can't detect my computer's hard drive. I then tried using a vista dvd to to access my hard drive but it hangs on a black screen with only the mouse pointer appearing after "Windows is loading files." Every now and then the same thing happens when using the win7 flash drive. I'm not sure if this is an issue with my hard drive or something else, I just received this hard drive as a replacement for a failed one a day prior to installing win7.

Any help would be much appreciated

A few minutes after any startup (after power-off, restart, standby, hibernate):

1. Task bar turns from Windows XP blue to Classic Windows white and Windows XP appearance option disappears from customize in Start-Up menu "Properties."
2. Windows Update icon will flash intermittently in the taskbar upon startup of IE7, but quickly disappear and not permit updates to be installed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So I just fired up AIM 5.0.XXXX moments ago. When I try to IM certain people on my buddy list, I get "Error code 3 received from server" (SEE ATTACHMENT). Some people it happens with, some it does not, but it is consistent on who I can and cannot IM.

I do know that once they IM me, I am able to respond with no error.

I upgraded to 5.1.XXXX and the error remains.

I can find no documentation from AOL on this bizarre little message (so that I can, oh I don't know, find out what error code "3" is...), and searching Google is really no help.

Recently, my old sound card completely stopped playing anything. Because of this, I bought a new Sound Blaster Live! card. We couldn't get it installed on our own, so we had a technician install it. We got it back and then I then began to get weird problems. I could no longer listen to .mp3s on Windows Media Player, but I could listen to them on WinAmp Lite? Kinda weird. Also, in Vent, I can hear everybody talking, but they can't hear me. I don't have sound recorder on my comp, so I tried the AIM talking feature and I didntt see the bars going up and down for volume. So, then I tried downloading the latest Sound Blaster Live! drivers off of their site and that didn't work. Oh yeah, I also cannot hear the ingame sounds for Wolfenstein Enemy Territory. My problem is exactly, or almost exactly the same as THIS ONE .

So yeah, I really need help. My comp is a Dell Dimension XPS T500 with 2 speakers. It has 256 MB of RAM. So, any help would be appreciated. I have Windows 98 SE I believe.

Once i log in i get a several instances of "explorer.exe" running, though the description on task manager says it is "Avira Antivirus 9.1 premium edition" A program which i have neither downloaded nor even heard of before. More and more instances of this program will run eating up all my memory and bringing my laptop to a crawl, i also recieve constant "this program has stopped workeing" messages about these avira/explorer guys.

Mates, I'm in the process of upgrading a z620, now 2X Xeon E5-2690 / 40GB DDR3-1600 ECC / Quadro K2200 / Seagate SATA II 750GB / Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. Windows was loaded from the recovery partition of the newer z420 (2015) in the office and which runs BIOS v. 3.84. That 2105 HP / Windows activated automatically, started normally, and has gone though many, many updates already. The thing is, after updating the BIOS from quite far back to 3.88 using the in- Windows BIOS /.EXE method, on startup, the screen goes through a series of messy screens- perhaps 8 or more before starting Windows, and some appear to be repeats. A number mention 'American Megatrends" and a few times it paused on prompt to enter RAID setup. > Are there two or three copies of the BIOS in a row? > Do I need to update more of the chipset and storage drivers? Both of the z420's in the office (with SSD's) startup with only a brief pause on the first, HP screen and then directly to Starting Windows. The setup drive, an elderly Seagate 750GB is extremely slow (Passmark rating 574) so I thought it may be that the disk is just running through something that I don't see at SSD's speed. However I have a new HP Z Turbo (256GB AHCI) and when I put it in the z620 it presented the same set of screens before settling on "Starting your system for the first time". I tried reverting the BIOS to the previous verion 3.84 which is the same as t... I've been having some major problems the past day or so with my computer. It's an older Dell running Windows XP. I have a new computer but I like to keep this one set up for just general web browsing.

When I start Google Chrome 2 tabs open. One has the normal Google search and the other has something called "mywebsearch". If I try to go to any web pages it will either redirect or I'll get an alert message saying the site's security certificate has been revoked. Also, when it's connect to the internet it will receive millions of packets in a matter of minutes(earlier it received over 6 million in just 2 minutes) so I disconnected it. I even had to reset my router at one point because of it. I went ahead and ran Malwarebytes and it found about 20 files and removed them, however this did nothing to remedy my problem and it keeps alerting to trojans in the Google desktop install folder. Attempting to delete that folder gives me an error message.

I can do a clean install of the OS if needed since I back things up regularly, but I'd rather save this install if possible.

Okay..long story for this one. My HD recently went bad, and I had to get a new one. It installed fine. Except for something with my sound. There were two devices which were missing drivers; Microsoft GS Wavetale Synthesizer, and Microsoft DLS synthesizer. After dealing with MS tech support (a mistake) the devices no longer show up in the device manager, BUT I'm still getting the crashes. Specifically, whenever I try to play Morrowind or the PainKiller single player demo, I randomly crash to a black screen, sometimes with a very fast sound loop playing in the background. This did not happen before I got the new HD. Also, the sound in the opening sequence of Morrowind skips to a regular rythm. NeverWinterNights (which came out after Morrowind) works fine.

Now, I've tried moving the sound card to a different PCI slot, using a different card entirely (in both slots, again) reinstalling the drivers, etc, etc. There are no IRQ conflicts, the on-board sound on my mobo is off, the drivers are up to date, and everything works fine EXCEPT for those two instances, and probably more that I"m not yet aware of. The only way I can get any error message at all is by pressing a button on my monitor that switches from landscape to portrait view. It goes back to landscape, and pops up with plain white text on a black screen "1: Analog input".

System info: Windows XP Home edition, SB Audigy LZ, 640MB of RAM, Nvidia Geforce Ti 4200, AMD Athlon 1800XP.

A:Bizarre crashes.

Did you try looking for game updates?
That is the first place I would try to check.
I had the same driver errors while trying to install a SB Value.
I simply deleted the 2 entries and rebooted. It took several times repeating the process for the drivers to install properly and no errors show up.

this would be kind of normal, except i am using headphones.

Yesterday I was using my computer and everything appeared to be fine. I had just finished playing a game (using an averagely powerful graphics card (ati x850 gto). I then used my nokia phone software to update synchronise my phone with outlook. However I then had trouble closing outlook.

I tried 3 times and in the end decided to turn off my computer (in the proper way) which i did, however...

... it never turned back on :-(

I have absolutely no idea what it may be, although I was using my computer on a very hot day and have considered the problem to be a overheated component.

I have tried turning on w/ graphics and sound card removed; with a different psu; and I also attempted to turn on the comp using another hard drive however I got nothing on screen, not even bios.

Does this mean the problem is motherboard and/or processor? Is there anyway to detemine this?

Thanks for any help.

Now if you know the Pacific Northwest, you know the freeway systen does NOT look like that. When I use the mouse wheel to zoom in or out, the ground stays put, just the road sysyem goes crazy. This just recently happened & now that I think of it, could it be because I reset firefox? TIA. This is on my W7 & everything is recently updated.

The main problem is that my ONE computer's security settings do not and will not match to my router. I'll try and list everything I did. Hopefully I won't miss anything.

1. Obviously, I try to look at the settings and see why they don't match. My netbook is also running on 7 Ultimate (32bit), and it has no problem whatsoever connecting to the router and accessing he internet. I look at the wireless settings on there. Match perfectly to the ones in the properties. So far nothing logical.

2. I try using the WPS button on my router to connect. It tries to, but it always says it simply can't.

3. I copied the wireless settings from my netbook to my desktop (the computer in question) on a flash drive and tried to put them onto my desktop.

4. Signal strength is excellent, no problem there.

5. Reset router to factory default settings. No changes there.

6. Called Comcast (the router/modem is actually theirs). They are just as confounded as me.

7. I am actually on my desktop right now. I am able to get an internet connection because I hooked my personal wireless router to this Comcast router. Desktop has no problems connecting to the internet, at least in general. Internet goes out sometimes, but I believe this is due to 2 wireless routers emitting signal right next to each other, or maybe the fact that it was never really intended to have an additional router connected to it (the modem is intended to be its own wireless router. you can't turn the wireless off with... I am experiencing a very odd problem which I'm really struggling to solve.

To summerise - My internet connection seems largely fine however the are certain websites/webpages which refuse to load up. It just says waiting to connect before eventually coming up with the same message you'd get when you have no internet connection. 90% of websites are fine but the 10% includes some websites i need to get on which is rather frustrating! There seems to be no correlation between the type of sites that wont work. Some examples are Microsoft Corporation , Car Insurance, Home Insurance, Travel Insurance & Credit Cards from Tesco Finance & Insurance , Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test to name just a few...

I don't believe it's actually a computer problem as my laptop (which is new) cant connect to these sites either through my home wireless network but if i connect to the internet through a friends wireless internet the sites load no problem!

I dont believe its a firewall problem or anything like that as i've tried diabling them and pretty much everything else i could think of.

I had a 45 minute phone conversation with BT who ran tests on my line and checked my account and couldn't see why i was having the problem - they couldn't access my computer remotely though as the site they linked me to wouldn't open through my pc connection! Basically they told me they couldnt help and to contact my computers manufacturer (even though i think its obviously not ... Read more

Hi Ivydrive, and welcome to the forums.

For what you describe, it's a router's problem. Maybe you did a firmware update? Maybe it did it on it's own? Or maybe the latests updates for your browsers anr/or network card need some sort of re-configuration in your router. What I would do is bypass the router by connecting one of your computers straight to your BT modem and test. If the problem is still there, ask a friend to come by your house with a laptop and connect also stright to your modem (no router). If the problem persist, change ISP. If it was solves, restart your router and start configuring it all over again but checking your connection every ste of the way.

Hi there,

My network at home contains an ADSL modem, desktop, server and a macbook (I love that macbook, but that's a different story). They all connect directly to the router.

Today, my desktop decided, for reasons I'm not aware of, that it was bored of my excel spreadsheet and turned itself off. When I restarted it, it had then decided that the internet wasn't much use, and I didn't need to access it any more.

The desktop can no longer ping the ADSL modem, but it is able to ping and access files from the server. The server and the macbook are able to ping the ADSL modem and the desktop no problems at all.

So, this has me confused. The desktop must be on the network because it's able to access the server, and the ADSL modem must be working, because I'm able to access the internet on the macbook.

I've tried all the usual things: restarting the computer, swearing, restarting the router, swearing, uninstalling the network card and lots of swearing.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can try? I'm stuck!!

Cheers,
Rob

I've been working on this for a month with two other professional IT guys and we're all stumped...

I'll try and be brief and precise.

Basically, about a month ago we installed a new VPN router in our office and changed all of our private IP addresses from 192.xxx.xxx.xxx to 10.xxx.xxx.xxx.

Then everything went downhill.

Now we're dropping packets all the time and getting "request timed out" messages like you've never seen before. We've tried everything the three of us can think of (so many things I can't remember them all) and it just gets worse. It's particularly frustrating because we use QuickBooks, so if you lose the connection even for a moment it boots you out of the program, and you have to reload it and start all over. Sometimes people will get booted up to 15 times a day, and it seems to be random times (i.e. two computers are never booted at the same time).

Here's the basic setup.

Internet > Linksys RV042 VPN Router > 8-Port Switch >
Port 1: "Server"
Port 2, 3, 4...etc: Other switches and PC's.

I'll be honest, the server is nothing more than a CPU running Windows XP professional, I didn't set it up. We just got a real server but I don't want to set it up until we get this bug hammered out. The other 7 computers are running either Vista or XP. I know you'll probably need more information so just ask and I'll get it for you.

My network completely collapsed for no good reason after taking the client machine apart and putting it back together exactly the same way. It worked perfectly before that.

In trying to set it back up, nothing worked, and I found it easier to uninstall ALL protocols and services, (apart from TCP/IP), and network adapters from both machines, and re-installing them to give myself a clean slate to work from.

OK, with that done, the folowing protocols are installed...

Client for MS networks
QOS packet scheduler
File and printer sharing for MS networks
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
NetBios
IPX/SPX/Netbios compatible transport protocol.

The last two are installed purely to support a game or two that seems to prefer networking with them but otherwise aren't there for anything.

Windows firewall was then turned OFF on both machines, and the remaining firewall on "Server" (Sygate personal pro) was set to allow all, rendering it harmless.

OK, First the network setup wizard was run on the internet machine ("Server"). It was then run on the client machine ("client")

Both machines can ping each other on the network with no problems. A portscan of client helped me find out I could telnet succesfully to port 17 (qotd) of client, which I did because I was bored. No problems there then!

The network MSHOME, on both machines, shows that both "Client" - and "Server" - are connected

I have an HP pavillion with a 740b dvd burner. Lately, it's developed an odd issue where it won't burn to DVDs.
It will burn CDs read CDs and DVDs and do the lightscribe thing, but it won't burn DVDs.

I thought the drive might be bad, so I installed another working DVD burner and it is now exhibiting the same symptoms. The 740b is master, the second drive is slave.

I deleted all the dvd burning related software, including all my video editing software. I've deleted the drive through device manager and by hand in the registry, but the problem persists.

The fact that both drives are not functioning in the same manner leads me to believe this is a software issue.

Can anyone help me? I really need this drive working.

I recently added Norton 360 v2. I don't know if that might be affecting things.

The maximum speed that my cpu fan can achieve seems to vary between one roboot and the next. Idle speed is 2000 rpm, whereas the maximum is around 3500 I think. However sometimes, the fastest the fan will go is only 2500; even with both cores running at 100%. So I have to keep the case open to to prevent the cpu from overheating. A week and couple of reboots later, the fan speed once again can go up to 3500 for no apparent reason. I tried disabling the auto fan speed control in the bios, but then the fan just runs at 2500 all the time. I checked the fan/heatsink assembly and it appears to be firmly seated over the cpu.

Somewhere in WLM in your account information should be
a line like this - put a checkmark next to it and check your
emails on both machines. See if they match.

Leave a copy of messages on server

Set it to delete them after x number of days - otherwise
your email provider* inbox will become full and at some
point you won't be able to receive anymore emails.

*If your email provider is gmail or similar and has unlimited

Okay, let me try and start this from the top since it seems to have a lot of logical inconsistencies that have left me banging my head against a wall...

Yesterday I bought four new DVDs (Simpsons Season 10 that just came out if it matters), and immeadiatly popped Disc1 into my laptop. The disc seemed to load fine and I think it cme up with the standard "what do you want windoes to do with this" pop up when i accidently nudged the eject disc button on the DVD drive. Shrugging it off (I tend to do that a lot the way I'm set up), I closed the DVD tray again only to find that now the disc will not load, instead giving me only an "D:\ is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error" message.

I quickly attempted several solutions I found online, including going to the Device Manager (which claims the drive is working properly) and changing it to PIO as instructed, uninstalling the drive and letting it reboot and reinstall the drive, and even messing with the UpperFilters and LowerFilters in the Registry. Nothing changed.

Distraught, I attempted System Restore and rolled the comp back one week. While the restore was working, I took out Disc1 and replaced it with Disc2 of the same set. I popped Disc1 into a portable DVD player that was around and it worked fine. After the restore finished, I attempted to access Disc2 on the laptop to find it worked fine as well. Thinking restore fixed the issue, I let it go for the ni... Read more

When I first boot up it will be keeping normal time, but after a while it will speed up dramatically. While this only screws up a few minor things, it's certainly very annoying. After a while it will return to normal speed, and if I reboot, the clock will magically return to the correct time. If anyone knows what may be causing this, please do tell.

I recently got a new motherboard complete with a faster processor and everything, but I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.

A:Bizarre clock problem

Logan
A bit of clock function theory here first.
When your system is shutdown the CMOS battery maintains the internal clock contained in your motherboard BIOS set. When your system is booted and windows loads, Windows retrieves the current internal clock setting from BIOS. While windows is up and running no reference to the BIOS clock is made because windows is controlling and displaying its clock.
Now with that in mind, programs running in windows can have an adverse effect on what is displayed as your clock time. In most cases it will slow down but in your case it is speeding up. The key to this whole event will be finding which program has the adverse effect to the windows clock. The procedure is rather tedious unless you can tie the event to a program you just opened. What I would do first is try and isolate the event by opening programs as usual and watching the clock to see what spurs the event. As soon as event occurs see if shutting down the recently opened program ends the event. If you cannot tie it to a program directly then the tedious stuff starts. You will have to enter Msconfig through the run line, (Start\Run type in MSconfig) then uncheck all items except systray and scanregistry, click apply then OK. Keep in mind after you restart with this configuration you will not have your Antivirus running so stay off the Internet while you are isolating this event.
Run system for awhile and see if clock problem surfaces again. It shouldn't since you have little r... Read more

We have three machines in our house, and the two laptops work off the wireless w/o issue. I had forgotten the network key, so when I had to add a new laptop to the wireless router I reset the router. Something happened at that point that screwed up my PC. It never stays on the wireless network long. Well, let me rephrase that, perhaps it's that it's jumping off the internet almost every 3-5 minutes. When I open the wireless connections, sometimes it says beside my router is "Disconnected" but when I highlight the router name it says "disconnect." At this point, if I click "disconnect" I get a canned warning.
It does not consistently do this. Some days it says it says it's disconnected from my router, and when I click the button (which now says "connect" and not "disconnect") it will go into this perpetual state of checking the IP address.

What does get my instantly connected is clicking on my router name and re-entering the network key. This instantly connects me to the internet (though sometimes it seems that I'm still searching the IP address while I'm am clearly connected to the internet.

I wonder if I have a few different problems here. Any ideas?

I'm not sure when or how it happened, but recently almost all the text that appears for programs looks like it's in italics (but really isn't). The problem extends to programs like AIM (buddy list, conversation text), Powerpoint (any text on the slides), IE (any web page text that isn't a link), and miscellaneous other places too. It's really begginning to be annoying because when trying to make a powerpoint presentation, it's impossible to tell whether or not the text on the slide is actually italicized or if it's just this funky problem. The text problem doesn't seem to affect the menues in any of the programs.

I have had a very strange windows issue for about 6 months. I usually can go to several tech forums and find my similar problem and then fix it by following other techs advice and not ever have to post a question myself. I have yet to find any answer to my problem.
Whenever I browse the internet, use Word, check my email, use Adobe, I experience a problem with the windows either zooming in and out sporadically and the scroll bar jumping around. It doesn't allow me to shut the program down very easily and then my computer goes "buggy" until I restart. Then after a few minutes of use it does it all over again. Other times I can go days without a problem. It is very frustrating. I am not an expert with computers but am self taught. I would gladly post a hijack this log if anyone thinks they can help. I have no viruses or spyware and have used several programs to ensure this. I regularly update and do regular maintenance. I'm wondering if that's different now, and that's what's affecting my computer, but I'm not positive. In any case, I'm thinking of doing a clean install of the full/latest build so I don't have to do it later... however, I'd like to figure out my problem, as well, and.. well, let me just get to the info/point.

I've got an HP Pavilion dv5 and an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU processor, T6400 at 2 GHz.

I can log onto my other ftp accounts and other web servers via browsers and clients listed above. I cannot connect to fatcow, always getting 530 errors. I can telnet and traceroute to the fatcow server, but still can't connect.

I dragged out an old box (XP SP3, Firefox, CuteFTP) and was able to log on no problem via all browsers and clients. I reconnected the new box, and still no connection.

I need to get the-faces.com loaded on fatcow ASAP, as the band reformed and are playing their first gig since 1975. I need the fatcow connection working so I can update the site.

The problem seems to be with this box. As I mentioned, I had an ftp connection to fatcow, and it won't work on this box. All other non-fatcow ftp accts work, and fatcow connects from the same location on an older box, but this box will not connect to fatcow.

Hey all. This is a strange one. My main PC is playing up with the network connection. I have this PC (XP), a Mac (G4) and a Dell D400 laptop (XP/Linux) all hooked up to my wireless network.

The problem is that my main PC has recently started not displaying images from certain websites. Particularly effected is the BBC news website. It shows the text instantly, and the solid colour banners etc, but all images like photos never come up, and show the image not found placeholder. This occurs in IE7, Firefox and Opera. Obviously this sounds like a wireless connectivity issue BUT some sites are almost entirely unaffected and whats more, when I do the speed test at Speedtest.net I get my full download capability displayed. The connection reads at 61% signal strength with 91% signal quality. I know it is sytem specific as the two laptops work absolutely flawlessly.

I have re-installed the adapter drivers with the newest available and this did not help.

It doesnt make any sense!! Any ideas are appreciated as this is beginning to really annoy me.

Thanks in advance.
