Loads very slowly after opening a large folder of videos

Q: Loads very slowly after opening a large folder of videos

Hi all.
I have had lots of videos on my hdd for some time now building up a collection of car videos/movies. there is roughly 50gb+ of videos on one partition, 17+gb of these vids are car videos. When I go into my car video folder my HDD light comes on and loads like crazy, and then when I try to open one it takes for ages.

Also another problem which mite be related that I have is, Files go missing, eg. a 700mb car movie. the file is still there it shows all the bytes in properties and that is all correct, but when I try to open it says the file has been "compressed" or something along those terms. I know its not the codec, as I have just about every codec and these movies have worked previously. Especially after reformatting my files go missing from each of my back up partition drives. at the moment, 3.77gb of my fighting videos will not open :(

If anyone can help me, i would appreciate it. its really annoying not to be able to use the stuff on your HDD.

Thanks,
Mr. SaKaTuMi

A: Loads very slowly after opening a large folder of videos

hmmm....defrag your hdd and see if that helps. a good defraggin tool is diskeeper and perfect disk. so far i have experiences with diskeeper and it works great and the program is hella fast.

also since you are running winxp, try booting up with your winxp cd. of course and im sure you know this, you will need to change the boot order in the bios to cdrom as first boot device.

then when you boot up with the winxp cd, choose repair in the main console and it will take you to a command prompt screen. type out " chkdsk /r" without the "". also you will need a space between chkdsk and /r.

after it has finish, bootup to windows and see if this fixes your problem. also scan your computer for viruses, spyware, and malware. good luck

Recently my Videos folder became unaccessible as it would crash Explorer after a couple of seconds after it opens. Yes, it does open, I can go into a subfolder/click on a file before it decides to die. I'm running Windows 7 64bit with a TB harddrive. That drive in particular had about 750 gbs, of which the Videos folder is unsing up 167.

I did some research and found that it may have been due to that folder having too many large files. I personally think that my computer is more than adequate to handle them, but tried switching the view from Thumbnails to List, which didn't help at all.

Oh and of course I ran virus-scan and malware scan and all that, found nada.

I also saw that it may be due to a corrupt video file, which does seem possible, but I do not know a way to solve that problem, as do not know which file it could be, and even if I did I would have no way of getting to it before it crashes.

Deleting the folder is not an option. There are simply too many valuable videos collected over time in there (no not pr0n, so scratch that off the possible list of problems...)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am running an Athlon XP 1800+ with XP HOME SP3
Avast antivirus 4.8 Home registered version
Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE

A couple of weeks ago I downloaded a movie using a P2P

I put the movie into a folder with other movies

When I open the folder the computer freezes for a few seconds with an hourglass pointer indicating it is working and then I get a window with the Dr. Watson postmortem debugger error message stating that explorer needs to close. After a few minutes it does not close and i have to manually close dr watson in the task manager window at which time windows explorer completely closes and re-opens.

I went into the command prompt and manually moved the new movies to a new folder to see if they were the cause but now if I open any folder with movies in it, I get the message.

I feel that the movies I downloaded were embedded with some malware possibly infected by the very people that make the movies to prevent people from downloading illegal movies.

Here is a log from HiJack This if it helps. Can anyone help?

I've recently been experiencing slow loading and lagging/skipping videos. Also, whenever a video has finished playing and I exit the tab/window that the video was in, my computer freezes for a bit and the gives me a message about my shockwave plugin being unresponsive. It gives me the option to stop it or continue. I found that if I just do nothing for a minute or so, it disappears and my computer returns to normal. Also my computer tends to freeze every now and then. Mostly when opening and running multiple tabs (it used to not be a problem). I ran DDS and MBAM (found nothing). The logs are posted below.

Ever since I have cleared the registry my internet is running very slow. It takes forever to load a page. I never had the problem before doing that. Do you have any idea why? Thanks!

A:IE7 Loads Slowly

Hi Micheless, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Since this happans after you cleared the registry, you might try doing a System Restore using a restore point dated before you cleared the registry to see if that can fix the problem.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

A:NT PC loads very slowly

Having both Netware and NT on the same box will naturally go slow.
Both have different authenication process's that they must go through.
Are the applications and files stored locally or on a server?
If they are on a server, that would be a reason for a speed loss.

Hello.
I am having problems with Vista and Gmail. When I go to Gmail.com and type in my username and password, the monitor makes a gradually declining hissing noise and freezes the computer. I don't know what the heck is going on here, but it's not a virus. I've scanned this computer with 2 virus scanners and nothing came up. Is there anything that is wrong with vista and Gmail?

Thanks,

The problem is simple, windows loads very slow. How slow? Well it takes 15 bars to boot up. My 1Ghz celeron server boots up faster than that. I have no idea why, it's always been like this. I have 2 raptors in RAID 0 that has the OS on them, and when windows finally loads it is extremely fast, but it's the bootup that kills me. I have defragged, not that it would make that much of a difference. This is annoying, any suggestions to help speed it up?
My computer's full specs are in my profile.
In hard drive tests I get up to 130MB/s in consecutive reads and about 6MB/s in random reads.
Should I just format and re-install?

Formated laptop (Tosh Equium M50-164, with 1.5Gig of ram instead)
Loaded windows, then installed various progs, and then downloaded Wubi, to install ubuntu, gave ubuntu 10Gig, which left me with 40Gig approx free space on windows, but then, windows began loadin impossibly slowly, with like 5 minute loading times.
When it has finished loading, however, it runs as normall. This is not helpful as this laptop is used in schools, so fast loading times are a must.

What could have caused this? It cant be that Xp is running out of room, because it still has 40 Gig left..

More importantly, can I fix this without zapping ubuntu? I love both and want to keep both...

Hi Bob, Try this

1, START --> RUN --> type "msconfig" without the quote marks. when it loads, go to the Tab called STARTUP and list all the things on that list with a tick in the box to the left of them. Either me or someone else if i aint quick enough should be able to take a look and see what is loading on boot that isnt needed

Recently I have noticed that my PC has been loading things really slowly. When I start my computer, there is a black screen with a loading bar at the bottom, which takes atleast five minutes to load. When I launch a game, it takes ages for it to start up and it also takes ages to join a server. I tried reformating, but it didn't help. When I was installing one of my games, I found that it took about 10 times as long to install. And while it was installing, I couldn't do anything else because it slowed everything down. It's like my RAM has been lowered or something. I am guessing it may be a hardware problem.

To make it even worse, I called the place I purchased my computer from only to find that they had run away. They apparantly owed people alot of money, so one night they decided to pack up and run away. My computer was under warranty, but I guess that means nothing now...

So I was wondering if anyone here knows what the problem could be, and how much you think it may cost.

Thanks in advance.

Well, I have an HP G71 Notebook PC, with an Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo CPU T6600 processor. Around a week ago, I could log in, but it would never boot up completely, like it would be stuck. Then around a couple days after, I couldn't even log in, because I would crash into BSOD's such as "unmountable_boot_volume", "bad_system_config_info". Now, last night, I was able to get past the BSOD's (yay!) but when I log in, it would be stuck at the "welcome" screen for a really long time. So I decide to shut it down. Sadly, now, after the HP logo, it has the black screen w/ the white cursor blinking twice, then its just a black screen... if I wait long enough, it actually gets to the:

"Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Start Windows Normally"

But when I try to get into safe mode, it loads the windows files REALLY slowly. Usually it takes like a blink of an eye... but now it takes it around 5 seconds to load each one...

Anyone know a solution to this?

If it helps, this wasn't the first time I got the BSOD's. But they occured after several Automatic Windows Updates. Also, before all the problems occured, my laptop was working normally, but after ANOTHER Windows Update, it just wouldn't load correctly anymore. I remember the screen before I logged in: "Configuring Windows". So could it be from their update? Please help.

Oh, and it is Win7.

A:Windows loads really slowly after HP logo.

Is there a .dmp file located in C:/Windows/minidump ? If so post the file here for someone to check it out.
I'd also check the health of that drive. What brand of hard drive is it? There's various tools such as Western Digital's drive fitness test to check on the SMART status. Crystal Disk info is another.

Hi!
I'm new to techspot. I've been having a problem with my laptop. Here are its specs:
Toshiba Satellite A100
Model #: PSAA8C-SK400E
80GB Hard Drive
1GB Memory
Windows XP SP3
ESET Smart Security 4
This laptop, for some reason, has continually had various problems. I think I've had to reinstall Windows XP about 4-6 times in the last 5 years or so since I bought it because of viruses, BSODs, error messages, etc. It's definitely not a problem with the Internet Connection, because the other computer works fine, and it's actually older. We have Telus as our ISP. We had a problem with our modem, and we had Telus replace it with a newer modem, and the new modem is a different one from the one we had last and has another brand name.

A while after we got the new modem, Internet Explorer 8 started loading a lot slower. It takes a few minutes to load most pages, but if you duplicate a tab, it's very quick. Youtube videos take forever to buffer, and when you are loading a flash application it doesn't load. When you download files, it doesn't download until you refresh a few times and it finally downloads. Google searches take forever to load too. I tried using a portable version of Google Chrome, but unfortunately, it had the same results. When I tried installing Google Chrome from the website, it couldn't download because it took too long. I'm having this issue with very slow loading of specific websites. It's not random websites that load slowly, its specific, reoccurring sites that always load slow (I'm talking 3 minutes to load eBay).

It's not my Internet speed since I've done speed tests, and tons of equally large websites load instantly. I'm thinking that these slow loading sites share some type of web development tool or have something in common. Maybe you can help me out by telling me if these sites have anything in common as far as web architecture that might narrow down the problem.

So far I've done speed techniques with Firefox's about:config such as enabling pipelining and max_requests. That did nothing. I also, of course, cleared my cache, cookies

Here's the list so far (at least 2 minutes to download, if not more)

- Gmail (Google and other Google apps like docs load fine)
- eBay
- Facebook
- PureVolume.com

Anyone help would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same problem on my desk top but not my wifes lap top. this site takes minutes to load http://www.jsonline.com/index/index.aspx?id=44 on the desk top. All other sites load fine. I am no expert but I can usually figure out computer problems. I regularly clean up memory and registry and run scans for all types of bad stuff, viruses/spyware etc, so I don't think that's the problem. This one has me baffled.

It does also load slowly on explorer, I tried it out just to be sure.

Assistance would be greatly appreciated. My PC, running Windows XP SP2, started pausing for a while before it would load Firefox, then repeating that long pause before it would load any page or start a download. After the lag time, it will load (albeit slower than normal). I've tried Explorer and Netscape, but they do the same.

When I tried a reboot, the system did an auto-shutdown. When rebooted again, it was OK.

I've scanned with AdAware, Spybot S&D (added after problem occurred), Windows defender and malicious software removal tool. They all found a thing or two they didn't like, which I got rid of, but to no effect on my slowdown problem. Since installing Spybot, it has alerted that a registry entry has been changed (ctfmon.exe) a couple of times--I've chosen the "deny change" option both times.

Hello, my Vista Home Premium 32 bit is fast on normal, but when it goes to boot into safe mode, and shows the files and drivers it's loading, it goes SUPER slow, and just loads 1 line at a time for like 5 seconds.

And even when I go to choose an advanced option, it takes a while for the choice screen to load, it will load like 1 line at a time, and its very annoying.

The Picture below... It will load 1 line at a time, and it will take like 10 mins to boot to safe mode.

A:Vista SLOWLY loads to safe mode?

Hi

Seems that your problem is the reverse of most that I have seen. I can only think of one suggestion. The absence of a process that normally loads is slowing you down. Why not do a clean boot, to determine the culprit. You can possibly fix the problem, once you know the source.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Hope that this helps.

My ISP is Verizon FIOS, and I have checked my speed and I am at 17/5 MBPS, enough to download any other content quickly like games, movies, Netflix HD...etc.

It seems to me that only youtube performs poorly, almost as if my ISP is throttling data only to youtube.  I know this is completely unethical and illegal, but I can't think of any other reason.  It's not like the old days where one just had a slow connection and you could watch the video buffer, rather it loads quickly and then just stops, no matter how long you wait.

I run google chrome (I have tried in IE and FF with no luck) in Windows 7 on a very high performing computer.  Any help would be much appreciated!

OS is XP, short description: had a virus and my antivirus took care of that but after it strange things are happening, during startup the taskbar freezes (the win start button, shortcut buttons, the clock) for 15-20 minutes, and then everything goes to normal. I tracked down the service, which is causing the slow load-up, and it is Windows Audio, if I disable it, the problem is gone (no freezing in the taskbar) but so are audio and plug&play services.

I have run multiple antivirus programs, and the system is clean, only thing that a system file from System32 folder (named Cdaudio.sys) was put to the virus chest during the virus attack as a virus infected file.

Can anyone suggest how to handle and fix this problem?

I'm not sure if this belongs here or in the hardware section.

I recently bought an Nvidia GT 430 used on eBay for use as a dedicated PhysX card (Using Hybrid Physx mod) to work with my main Radeon HD 5870. I am running AMD 13.8 Beta drivers for the Radeon, and have tried both the latest Nvidia (320.49) as well as the drivers that work with the Hybrid Physx Mod (285.62) to no avail. All of this was done on a clean install of Windows 7.

The odd part is, everything GPU related would appear to run just fine, everything runs smoothly. The problem is disk access times, every time I try to open an application, or even a new explorer window, Windows takes about 10 - 15 seconds to load the program. When running just the Radeon, pretty much any program besides some games loaded instantaneously, and if I remove the Nvidia card, the former speed is regained.

Boot time also takes much longer, taking about 45 - 60 seconds when it used to take around 10 at most. And again, if the Nvidia card is removed, it boots quickly again.

I have never had this issue running multiple GPU's before, as I used to run a Nvidia GTX 670 (As main GPU), Radeon HD 5870, and Radeon HD 4870x2 without seeing a speed drop. After downgrading to just the 5870, everything continued to work much or less the same (FPS drops in a few games, as expected) and it wasn't until I added in the 430 that I got this performance hit.

I do not understand why the addition of the 430 would cause such a performance hit to disk a... Read more

A:Windows loads slowly after installation of GT 430 with HD 5870

I have found a "solution" to the problem, I added in a third GPU, just some random Radeon x300 I had lying around and put it in, the system boots up just fine now, not sure why the system did not like 2 GPU's, as I've run 2 just fine before, but anyways, I guess it's a workaround for now.

Starting this week, on my 2 desktop hardwired computers, YouTube videos are now loading slowly using both IE 11 & FireFox. I downloaded Google Chrome (owner of YouTube) and they load quickly (as they did previously on IE 11 & Firefox). All other web sites still load and play videos quickly in all 3 browsers. Only YouTube affected in non-Google Browsers.

The only things that changed are:
1. I updated Windows 7 with last week's updates,
2. This week Google changed something in its search results to favor mobile app-efficient webpages.

I cannot figure out what's going on. Sometimes when I click on a YouTube video in a non Chrome browser it says" error; try again in 30 minutes". Anyone else having this issue starting this week?

Try switching youtube to html5 player mode if you are not already and see if that improves things.

Hi,

I hope I am posting in the correct place and I hope somone can help because this has been driving me crazy trying to fix this. On Wednesday, my computer was fine. On Thurday, it took about ten minutes for the icons and taskbar in Windows to load (I'm running XP home edition, SP 2). Once loaded, my computer couldn't access the internet. It seems like I am infected, but I ran AVG and only found a few tracking cookies, which I deleted. I also ran Malwarebytes in normal and safe modes, and both modes showed no threats. Other programs I've checked my system with are CCleaner, F-Source Blacklight Rooktkit locater, lspfix, drweb-cureit, and smithfraudfix -- all showed no problems. I used system restore and went back to a month ago, but I'm still having the same symptoms. My internet is run through a router with another computer, and the other computer is working fine. I've tried reseting the modem and the router, and neither fixed my internet problem. If I load Windows in safe mode, then the computer loads quickly. But everytime I load it in normal mode or in safe mode with networking, it takes about ten minutes to load. The slow loading and no internet connection began at the same time, so I assume they must be connected. But since I haven't found any threats, I'm not sure where to turn. So if you can point me in a direction or offer any help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Tim

Windows 7 ultimate.
Intel i7 PC.

Suddenly after startup folders load very slowly (or not, blank) green progress bar loads.
Simultaneously the (template) thumbnails in the aero theme selection window goes blank too (they do work just after login).
I have noticed that when I wanted to change the theme, thinking that, that would be the issue.
Even changing it to the classical theme makes no difference.

- The problem starts after a few seconds after logging in.
- The Music and library folders open fine.
- I have set the folder properties to 'general' but that did not help.
- Folder 'Computer' and 'Control Panel' has the same problem .
- Some thumbnails do not work in folders they do on the desktop.

- When I log off or restart then everything works for some seconds.
- I can browse all folders, but soon after the prbolem occurs.
- And sometimes when I wait a while I can access the folder's then the problem starts again.
- In safe mode there is no problem.
- Sometimes when I type a path in the music folder then I can get to the other folders.

- Indexing is disabled on both HD.
- I've done system restore but no effect .
- Disabled services in msconfig in and also set to diagnostic setting and booted, but same result.
- Hardisc checked for errors, also there is enough free space.
- My Pc is quite new, this happened all of a sudden.

An update windows did recently was the .Net framework updates.

Will it have anything to do with that?

I hope you can help me.

A:Suddenly folders load very slowly (blank) green progress bar loads.

Because it does not happen in safe mode it seems something is not right. Try enabling indexing, and if the problem remains, do this. Click the Windows Start button and type “index” in the Search box. Indexing Options should appear under programs. Click Indexing Options to bring up the Indexing Options screen. Click the Advanced button on the Indexing Option screen. Click the Rebuild button. Your current Search Indexes will be deleted and rebuilt.

Hello, this is my first post and I am hopeful that someone will point me in the right direction!

Well, my problem begins with me leaving work early last Thursday and leaving my computer on for my boss to use if he need to sub in for me. The computer was left on and it went into stand by, since I got this computer 5 months ago it has never been left on or running for more than 10hrs and I have always shut it down before going home. The following day, Friday morning, I "woke" it up and it was running very slowly. It has since been very sluggish opening different programs and having more than one page/tab open in either Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer.
My biggest issue is with my browsers, normally I can have Google Chrome running at the least 5 tabs/pages open, now only 2 tabs/pages open at a time and it will keep the pages on a constant reload it never goes "idle". If I try to open a 3rd tab it will take forever to load portions of a page. For work I need to keep an open portal/program running of our servers, plus 3 additional web portals so this is a pretty annoying problem for me.

This is what I have done to try and clear up a "jam":
* Un-installed and Re-installed Google Chrome
* Cleared Cache, cookies, browsing history...etc.
* Msconfig to see if there was anything there that might help if disabled (nope)
* Disk Clean-up
* and updated my Windows Vista just in case

I am fresh out of Ideas any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a HTML code with large white spaces in. Just want to know that does this affect the loading time of the page on Microsoft Edge, other browsers load the page just fine with no delays.
I checked loading the page after removing all the white spaces from the code, in this case the page loads much faster (normal load time) on Edge.
(This was just to check if white spaces were causing the problem, however final html code will have these white spaces).
If that is the issue can anyone please suggest me some possible solutions to this and why does the white spaces not affect the loading time of other browsers?
Thank you.

Hello everyone.
Sorry if Im posting this is the wrong place, but my digital camera takes *really* dark videos, so I am using a video editing program called virtual dub to brighten the videos. They turn out great, but when I save them;; they are HUGE. Pre-editing, the videos are usually around 4.94 MB. After I brighten & save them, they are app. 130 MB. for a 25 second video. They are both saved as AVI files so I dont see why there is such a drastic difference?? Anyone have any ideas how I can shrink the video sizes?
Or, does anyone know of an editing program I can use that I can brighten my videos without changing the files size [[much]].? Thanks

A:Large Videos?

Virtual dub is as good as most.
You need to open the 'video' drop down and select the video compression. Similarly, for audio. Good avi video codecs to reduce size are divx6 and xvid. Good audio codec is mp3.

YOu will want to determine that the player you plan to use can play the codecs you pick.

When I try to view online flash videos, the playback is always slow to buffer and often choppy. YouTube usually buffers well, but gives choppy playback. Other sites where you can watch videos (nbc, cbs, comedy central) will only ever play around 2 minutes of a video before having to buffer again, no matter how long I wait before. I know it's not the connection because my friend's computer plays videos flawlessly from the same connection, and it's not because of the browser (IE does work better than firefox, but still not well). I have Flash 10 installed. Any ideas on what could be causing the trouble or am I just out of luck? Thanks for any responses.

I noticed that while watching a video that it will pause after a few seconds with a loading symbol on the screen and then continue on and keeps repeating this until completed. My computer was okay before but I think it took a windows update and the settings changed. What should I do?

A:Videos load slowly after XP update

This is not uncommon, it is caused by limited download speeds and can be down to many reasons....

Videos continually increase their resolution, and don't care that people's download speeds don't increase as quickly.

Your ISP may throttle your download speed at certain times of day because so many other users are doing immense amounts of downloading. And not just on your local exchange, but down the national pipelines too.

If you have a wireless network, make sure a neighbour is not 'borrowing' some of your download capacity.

A windows update can change your system properties and you have little chance of finding it, MS may actually replace your network driver without asking you. But by all means reinstall the latest network driver you can find. Also check out the properties of your network to make sure as many available settings are giving you the optimal performance. I know this can be difficult to determine, particularly as there is no general advice available.

Hello,

Last year I had crashes during games and benchmarks of the GPU(Furmark).
After about half an hour of playing games the computer just restarted. It was a faulty PSU that I changed and all worked fine.

Two weeks ago the problems started again:
It started with the screen turning black(signal lose) during games for few seconds and the speakers making noise. It was only for few seconds, no restarts.
Then, the screen was turning off again with the noise from the speakers and the computer restarted, the GPU fans went max RPM and the Motherboard made 1 long and 3 short beeps. I had to turn off the PSU with the button to restart.

From what I read I could be a driver problem. I re installed Windows after formatting all the disks.
Now I test with Furmark on any resolution and the computer restarts after I start the benchmark.

Also, It crashed when I watched videos on YouTube, I understood it came from flash hardware acceleration.
The video Crashes stopped
I also Had a BSOD on Idle but then restarted..

What I found is when in Nvidia inspector I put the power and temperature target to minimum(67%) the crash was only after ~10 minutes of the benchmark and not immediately.

My Computer:
I7 2600K
Asus P8P67
Gainward GTX680 4GB
Corsair 1200W PSU
Corsair vengeance 4Gb stick x4

I'm running all on 2560x1440 display.

Thank you for help.

A:Crashes under heavy loads, games and videos.

1 long and 3 short beeps is a ram error I believe. which is easily tested by removing one stick at a time and see if you can make it crash running benchmarks.

id also download msi afterburner and kombuster and stress test your gpu.

also completely unrelated point, why do you have a 1200w psu for a single gtx680 like strapping a v12 to a go kart

For some reason, recently things with my computer have been getting progressively worse. Streams on Twitch won't load, youtube videos won't load, I'm lucky I got on this page easily. Which raises another thing. Some websites load fine. Google search loads fine, but the websites don't. I investigated and my ip configuration. I found interesting results. For one thing it thinks I have an IP that puts me 5 states away from my home and another, any speed test I do gives me a download speed less than one. Don't even ask about my upload speed and my ping, But, this is only on my computer. I don't know what the problem it.

A:Every Device Loads Videos, Webpages, Etc. except my computer.

If you go into add and remove programs in the control panel are there programs you don't recognize? If so can you list them here? Also have you checked to make sure there isn't a lot of dust around your CPU and vents?

Hey, I was wondering if anybody could help me.

Recently, videos online such a YouTube and on things like 4OD and BBiPlayer aren't loading as fast as they used to.
I swapped Internet provider in the February just gone and it was great, everything would load really fast and I had no problems. All of a sudden this past week or two it takes absolutely ages to load a video. Sometimes they won't even start loading and I have to refresh the page a few times to get them to load.

I have noticed that in general it takes normal internet pages a while longer load, but it is nothing in comparison to how long it takes videos to load at the moment.

I have deleted my browsing history, cookies etc and that still hasn't helped. I don't know whether it is something I need to talk to my internet provider about or whether it's something I can fix. Just incase this is of any relevance, I use Google Chrome as my browser, my internet provider is Talk Talk and I connect to the internet wirelessly.

I'll be happy to tell you anything else that I can, I would really appreciate it if somebody could help me out as it is really annoying me.

Thanks,
Krystie.

Ok, this all started when I had windows vista on my desktop computer Acer Aspire AM1641-U1521A, it was great everything was running smoothly, I was happy, but then after my mom put a password on the computer then forgot it, afterwards we got a restaurant and she moved all the internet connection to there. Since their was a tech support near by we took our password protected computer to him, then when we got it back he deleted everything and put it to windows 7, everything seemed ok until we got internet back at the house, now I downloadeded all my Mmos and played on one of them, S4 league, the FPS rate was so low and I did not know why. It wasn't the connection, I am using comcast atm. After a bit of messing around I found that the coprocessor in the Device manager had a yellow triangle on it, I tried clicking on it then the computer tried to instal new softwar but did not then it sent me to this, and the download was in this link, http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windo...ce_winvista_win7_32bit_international_whql.exe
I did it and it downloaded 4 drivers for nvidia, one of them was ethernet I recall, but after that everything was worse, the computer was slowing down a little with choppy mouse movement, and when I go on youtube videos, anything over 240-360p would cause major video lag and I think my Mmo frame rate got worse (And maybe download speed but I don't care that much). Any Ideas? I let you see my drivers,

I wonder if you can help.
I don't know really where to go with this and looking for any similar experiences you guys may have had?

A site auditor basically walks round the building site we work on talking long videos on his phone so audit purposes.

The videos are often 1-1.5GB but also anything between 300 and 1GB large. He has 28GB of videos he was attempting to put on our shared file server.

We don't have the space to allowing that amount of media to be stored.

I suggest he shares links from his OneDrive attached to his phone, no that is too much hassle he says.

He admitted hardly anyone will view but he needs them just in case they are needed for review.

We tried sharing a link, and even on our superfast internet 17 minutes to download a 1GB video.

I don't want them on the file server, wasting space and download/upload overhead plus we have to account having to allocate a extra 28GB to backup (which eats in to our allowance).

I'm not denying they aren't important files, I've just asked him to halt until I've had chance to think over a workable solution that easy for all concerned.

Not really put much thought in to it, so busy with other things.

Any ideas to help me along, users bring so many problems!

A:Large site videos and storage

Hi
I'd just make sure he had removable sd card on the cell and take them out for the video access
Or get a new phone that did or a camcorder and save those sd cards or what ever they use for storage and put them in an envelope and file them away.

since three days ago every flash video from every page (youtube, megavideo, etc) that i try to watch takes to long to start.. about a minute.. but when it start shows that the video was fully loaded if its short or half the way if its long (8 to 10 min) this means that the video its loading ok and a normal speed for my 2mb dsl connection but it doesnt star to play after alomost a minute.. other strange thing that i noticed is when i test my conection on speedtest or other similar that uses flash to test the speed, takes to long to load the download part of the test and shows a very high speed of my connection over 30mb!! when i only have 2mb.. i think this confirms a problem with flash payer.. and i repeat.. everything was normal and working ok before..

this problem happens on every browser (ie, firefox, opera) i usually use firefox

I ve tried everything, reinstall flash plugins, clean the registry, scan for viruses I even ran combofix but nothing..

Before you ask my computer is a gaming rig and has WELL beyond any normal hardware. When I click the browser icons on the task bar they light up like they normally do when they open. But after a few seconds they slowly fade away like they were closed.

But then after a sporadic number of seconds they open. No other program on my PC does. My PC boots pretty damn fast and everything else opens smooth as butter.

I defrag and optimize it once a week and I clean it daily.

*Video Version*

Forgive how crappy this video is.

1) I have no idea why the resolution is so bad.
2) Not sure why there is a censor bar the first few seconds
3) Good enough to showcase my issue.

A:Browsers Opening Slowly

What start page it's set to ? It might take some time to download it.
Try this :
in the address bar write "about:blank"
Close other tabs
Go to Tools / Internet Options and set "Use Current" as start page.
See if it opens faster.
This is for IE. Which other browsers do you use ?

My browser, IE9, working under Vista, appears to take longer to load web pages now...is there software running in the background and in tandem with the browser that accounts for this and can be turned off? I don't know how to check for this...

thanks

Any ideas?

I have a Dell XPS 8300 Intel Core i7-2600 @3.40GHz, 8GB Ram running Win 7 Pro 64-bit desktop. I had a spinning drive and opening Windows Update, iTunes and other programs took over three minutes to open. Ok, so I thought I put a SSD in it I would be better. I installed a Samsung 840 series SSD with a clean install of Win 7 Pro 64-bit and I am having the same problem. Opening Chrome, Firefox and IE work great but not Windows Update or iTunes. System File Checker (sfc /scannow) found no problems. I've tried automatically mange paging file size and system managed (8096-12140), adjusted visual effects for best performance. These changes didn't help.

I have 400 songs in iTunes

Any suggestions on making my programs to open quicker is appreciated.

Are other websites also opening slowly?

If not, there may be a temporary issue with that website from where you're located.

It loaded just fine for me.

A:MS Word Opening Very Slowly

Quite often such delays in opening Word are caused by a virus program scanning your document. Most programs like Norton AV can be set NOT to scan your documents, which is a good idea. <lg>

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

1. Download Temporary File Cleaner from here.

2. Make sure that you Save As... the file to your desktop.

3. Make sure to close out all opened programs!
TFC will close all open program's to run, be sure to save any work!
4. Double Click on the TFC.exe file that is saved to your desktop.

5. Windows will ask to either Run or Cancel the program. Click on Run.

6. Once TFC has opened, click the Start button.

7. Allow TFC to run uninterrupted.

8. Your desktop icons and other programs may disappear during this process. That is normal.

9. After TFC has finished it should automatically reboot the PC.

10. If it does not reboot, reboot manually.

11. It is normal that after running TFC that the PC will be slower to boot for the first time.

12. Please report the RED number that is shown at the end of the test.

I am having a problem with my Outlook Express. The program itself opens fine. I have it go directly to the inbox and usually whatever email is highlighted opens quickly in the lower window.
Something has changed in the last month or so. The program seems to freeze and takes forever to open the message, whatever it is, in the lower window. Even simple text can cause it fits.
Is there some cashe I should clean? The deleted files are dumped upon exit. Sent messages are kept fairly clean, only retaining 6 months or so and the inbox is carrying only about 30 messages.

MS Word is opening very slowly and I've done everything I could find to do on Google (delete Normal.dot, delete Registry data key, etc...) to no avail. One of the common suggestions was running HJ This and getting help from knowledgeable folks to check out the log file to see if there was a Malware problem that might be contributing to the MS Word issue. I know nothing about HJ This and seek your expert help...log is shown below and thanks in advance for any assistance.

So about a week ago my computer started to take 30+ seconds to open up programs, but only after I start up a big program that takes up resources. I have defraged the computer, uninstalled multiple programs, i still cant seem to figure it out.

Here are my system specifications:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.120830-0333)
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
8gb Ram
AMD Radeon HD 6700 Series

I hope i have put enough information, and posted it all correctly for this to be solved quickly. Thank you in advance for helping me out.

The first thing I would try is running Malwarebytes. Then check that your drivers are updated and not reporting any errors using Device Manager. With the hardware specs you have you shouldn't see any performance issue unless something is wrong.

When I open any type of office file from my local drive or my network drives the file takes a long time to open. However, If I open the office application and then use the open option within that application, the file opens instantly. I have googled this problem numerous times and I have looked in this forum many times. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am running on XP2 for XP Professional and using IE 6.0.29. I have run all sorts of spyware removal software and that doesn't change it.

When opening pages from my Desktop Icons or from Start, the web pages open very slowly. Sometimes I have to try opening the web page 3 or 4 times before they will open. Once the page is open, I have no problems searching through the page options. I ran a speed test via Visualware and the results were: 15.2 mbps download speed and 492 kbps upload speed. Most of the time when the web page is trying to open, there are two strips of information at the top of the screen which is actually portions of my Desktop screen. For example, a whole bunch of digital pictures reappeared as .tmp files. I didn't think much of it, but then certain applications, especially IE and Control Panel started to open very slowly (about 3-5minutes to open - once the applications are open they are working fine, but if I were to open a new IE window it would take another 3 - 5 minutes).

Has there been a xp download that has messed up word.

My daughter grumbled that work was taking ages to open and freezing with more than 2 open documents.
I did usual checks and dumped stuff checked virus etc and defragged no luck,

I am now working on my machine and the same is happening. I was wondering if one of the auto downloads has messed up word.

I did notice that when it opened it took ages one time requesting a virus scan. When open it works ok.
Thanks

My wife informed my this morning of the same thing. I hadn't thought much about it till now that you mentioned it, but I'm going to look through recent updates, to both XP and Office XP and see if I can locate the culprit. It would have to have been something that was updated in the last week, as thats about how long it has been since I had used Word on one of the XP machines.

I'm not experiencing the freezing, just slow opening of Word(takes about twice as long as it used to)

Hello,
I have a server (office server 2003)at the office with all files saved on it, and all users in the office have access to the server network drive. (users have access rights of course)

The thing is though, when i try to launch any application on the server from a client computer on the network (an Excel file, Acad file, software setup file, and even when i am logging on to the network drive) there is an annoying lag, or pause that is very annoying.
Say i open an excel file, there is an 8 second pause before the file actually opens with everything kinda freezing up, now if i keep this file open and at the same time open another excel file from the server, this time it opens quickly and normally without the pause.
Also opening files which are stored on my computer (not on server) open normally.

Can anyone help me out.
i have nod32 installed, but i don't think its the problem cuz i tried with it turned off.

Hello,

I have XP SP3, using Windows 8. I use AVG free 2011, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

I recently went through an extensive process of removing viruses, malware, etc.
on a different forum on this website. I was referred to this forum for further
assistance regarding my continued slow computer.

During the process I did reset my browser. Still my pc cannot keep up with
typing, watching videos such as on YouTube. Also basic surfing on the net
is really slow; downloading the site itself, and loading pages. The "status"
area seems to go through a long process of "waiting for", then when it finally
gives me the "done" status, I go to browse the website and again, it starts to
give the "waiting for" downloading status.

My connection is through Midcontinent Communications in Sioux Falls, SD. I
have the high speed residential internet plan.
I hope I gave enough details about my situation for assistance.
Thank You In Advance,
Tim

Hi -Please post a snapshot with Speccy -How to Publish a snapshot with SpeccyThis will help us check your operating system -Run chkdsk /r {Type or copy paste chkdsk /r into Run Box, press Enter and reboot your computer} This will take about 1 to 2 hours to complete. If you have your XP CD, type sfc /scannow into Run box, press Enter, and insert your CD to check System Files are complete.Remove / Uninstall any programs that you do not use very much from Control Panel > Add / Remove, like old games etc.Download pictures and music that you store on the computer onto CDs or DVDs to clear space from your system.Run Disk Cleanup from System Tools, then run Disk Defragmenter {again from System Tools}.Download TFC Cleaner from HERE to Desktop, to fully clean out Temp Files that are not needed any more. You should not have less than 20% free space (Shows at top of Defrag) for the system to operate reasonably (50% is better) -This is just a weekly or monthly routine that you should always perform to free up your system.Thank You -Edited for spelling -

I was hoping to be able to change the default icon for "My Videos" folder. I have renamed it to "Downloads" to use as my download folder. I was hoping to be able to do this without creating a desktop.ini file. I'm hoping it's a registry entry, or failing that, I could change the icon in the dll, but a registry entry would be a lot easier.

Also, the "Recent" folder is never used, and I'd like to hide it from the user\recent list.

I included a picture to make it easier to understand what I'm talking about. I edited out the user name for privacy reasons.

My firefox inexplicably stopped working properly recently. There are certain webpages that fail to load whatsoever (espn.com, for instance), and there are other webpages that load extremely slowly (somethingawful.com, for instance). Both of these websites work fine on IE.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled firefox but that didn't cure the situation. I have Symantec antivirus and it is always running. I don't usually download any sort of file that should put my computer in jeopardy, but I cannot figure out why it's running so poorly recently.

I hope I'm attaching all of the correct files:

Oh, also, file attachments don't work in Firefox or IE.

Using windows 98 with office 2000, and when i try to open a word document that is saved on the server it takes about 45 seconds to open.

If i open an excel document if opens immediately. also if i open a word document that is saved locally, it opens immediately.

Does anyone have any ideas how to stop the delay?

A:Word Opening server docs slowly

How Bizarre!!!

Just saved a word doc locally and then resaved it on the server and deleted the local copy. went to open that same document and it opened fine.

Now i can open all the files on the server.

Hey TSF, is been awhile

I'm wondering if there is some kind of program, codec, ect... to allow you to open large AVI files (large as in a few gigs apiece)

Winamp doesn't play them
Windows Media Player can't do it (it leads me to this which is irrelevant, its a video)
Edit: Just tried VLC, that doesn't play them either

I've also tried converting the files to other formats, with no success.

If it's at all possible, all help is appreciated!

Thanks

oh and sorry if this is the wrong forum

A:Opening/Viewing large AVI files

Sounds like they are bogus AVI files.. Ive got a few AVI file that are 6.98gb (recored HDTV with a TV card). They play fine.
If you carnt convert them, then its possible they arent Video files at all..

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit. and every time I try to open a large folder with a bunch of loose images(by loose images, I mean no sub folders), windows explorer freezes up and I get an error called AppHangB1. At first I thought something was wrong with my memory card or card reader, because I couldn't open the folder in my memory card and it has a bout 3 GB's worth of loose images in it. But I have a folder about the same size full of loose images on my external hard drive and the I had the same problem.

I have a folder on my computer where I keep all my images, and it has at least a thousand images in it, but I can search through it just fine, because they are all divided into a bunch of sub folders. I only get this problem when I try to open a folder with several hundred loose images.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

A:PLEASE HELP! Problem with opening large folders

Do you have the folder view set to thumbnail view, if so, have you tried to set the folder to list view, just to see if it would open then?
I'm only guessing here but

Maybe a ram issue? How much do you have? have you run any test on it? Have you played with the voltage or timings in the past? Is your computer a custom build or retail?

I can't find a solution to my problem. For just one of a good number of examples, I have Sonique MP3 player. It starts ok, but then it takes, no joke, 5 seconds to close after clicking the close button. Other apps have similar reactions, but at startup time. I have run spybot S&D, Registry Mechanic, Ad Aware, CCleaner, ewido Security Suite, and a good number of other apps to try to clean up this mess, but it still persists. A:Windows apps opening and closing extremely slowly

Hi wacky60 and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I do not see any signs of problems in the log. It is quite clean. having a program take 5 seconds to shut down is not uncommon. I have many programs which take that long or longer. It just depends on what resources the program has to release and what cleanup it has to do at the time of shutdown. There are a couple of housekeeping items we can fix so let's do that.Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...rch/search.htmlO2 - BHO: netMonior Class - {85810C93-C14C-11D5-BC4B-0050BA28E4FE} - blank (file missing)O3 - Toolbar: 1toolbar - {2184469F-67DA-49CB-BF3C-9CAB5974A280} - C:\PROGRA~1\1toolbar\1toolbar.dllNow close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.Find the following files/folders and delete them (don't worry if they are already gone):c:\program files\toolbar\ <--folderOk, reboot the machine and you should be good to go.Cheers.OT

I am using Microsoft Office Word 2003
Windows Vista
Google Chrome
Norton's Anti-Virus

Here are the problems:

1. Occasional messages saying it cannot find the file. I'll try again and it finds the file
2. Occasional message saying "Office Word not responding"
3. Significant delay in opening existing document and/or new document file. This is the biggest problem I'm having. By delay I'm saying it usually takes at least a minute, sometimes longer to open

I've read that the file "Normal.dot" may be the culprit and could be corrupted or damaged. Before I begin making changes by renaming this file is there a way of knowing if the file is in fact damaged and/or corrupted? Should I just go ahead an do a name change and see if it helps?

If the file is okay or I've changed it and there is no improvement what other reasons could be causing this?
Thanks

So my computer is basically brand new. Built it like 6 months ago. Check my profile for the specs. But within the passed 3 weeks, my computer has been running slower than normal in some cases. It's not all the time. Just when I click on icons to run or install programs. Where it normally would take 1 second at the most, it now takes up to like 30 seconds.

Also, when browsing (both Firefox 4.0b6 and IE9), whenever I try to run any type of embedded audio or youtube video the browser will normally freeze for about 20-30 seconds before playing. Sometimes it will lock up and not respond for a bit. A couple times I have tried to CTRL+ALT+DEL but I get an error stating that logon could not bring up the system manager and if nothing shows up, press ESC or restart the computer.

I have ran Spybot, MSE, and Malwarebytes and none of them can find any Malware/Spyware/Viruses. I heard there was a problem with Firefox's plugin container (also had a Windows alert about it crashing) so I turned it off but the problem still isn't fixed.

WTH is going on with my CPU???

For the past 2 days, when I try to open my IE6 browser, it first takes up upto 100% CPU, hangs the system for a while and then opens up taking hell lot of time!
The same thing happens when I try to open another browser simultaneously.

Sometimes the process explorer.exe plays the same irritating role of hanging the system!

I've already scanned my system with the latest CWShredder, Adaware, Spybot S&D, and Norton AV 2005 but the problem stands as it is!

I'm posting my HijackThis log.

Please help me to get rid of this problem soon!

I have 2 HDD that just hold Blu-Ray Backups. Both HDD are 1TB. The files are about 5-10GB each. 1 is full the other is half full. Here is the format that my folders are setup (Drive Letter):\Movies\(movie folder)\(movie file and meta data)

while nothing else is running, I open any (movie folder) (not the actual movie), my memory will slowly start to climb up to 100%. takes about 30 seconds. It will stay there for about 8-10 min, then drop down to 21% almost instantly.

If i close that window, then go back in and open another (movie folder) it will do it all over again.

While memory is at 100% computer is very sluggish and frustrating to use.

This happens to both hard drives

Things Ive Tried:

1. Add more memory (another 4GB) (this only shortens the amount of time the memory stays at 100%

2. Increase the page file. (noticed no change)

3. Looked at resource monitor to see what is taking all the memory (couldnt see anything other than all my memory was being used

About my machine:

Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Amd Phenom II X6 1055T OC'ed to 3.9ghz
ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO Bios: 2005

WD 1TB Black
LG Blu-ray Reader (running IDE mode, b/c it doesnt work in ahci)

A:Memory is Maxed out when opening large folders

Seem like a Disk read issue.

Have you tired Defraging the drives?

All though it is scheduled to do it automatically it won't if the computer is shut off or in sleep mode.

Also perform s disk scan on the drives also, it wouldn't hurt.

The paging file should only be set to X's 1.5 of the amount of the RAM you have.

Hello. I'm putting together a dvd that has some large .exe files. Some over 1Gb in size. Even saving these files to a computer with Vista ..opening them seems to have a timed delay.
It almost seems like vista is very slowly indexing it or scanning it. In the DVD-rom it just spins. It will go on 30- to almost an hour for one large file then poof.. it will open like it normally would in XP.
Since I tried this with different software on diff machines on DVDV and HD I've concluded it's Vista as XP opens right away. Sorry for the long story.
Anyone know any fix for this, or ever heard of it?

p.s. All legal software- calm down peeps.

A:Vista opening large .exe reallllly slow

Hi Stinehart

Is your Vista version 32bit or 64bit? Can I assume the executables are either 32-bit or 16-bit?

If you have the 64bit Vista, see if Wow64 is churning big chunks of processor time in Task Managers 'Processes' tab - during those times that the DVD seems a bit hung up.

The new Vista User permissions setup is also hostile to many older programs - especially if they send an opening window to the screen that waits for user input. Privilege tangles can keep the screen from appearing at all - so that the input period is left to time out.

Just to see -- what happens if you set the Compatibility of the large executable to "Windows XP"?

And -- you've tested the DVD response time with some smaller executables, & they ran fine?

Interesting puzzle you've got: I'm curious to find out how this will turn out.
. . . Gary

Hmmm ... thought of one other thing: see if disabling "Autorun" for that optical drive changes the behavior.
