Tried to free up space and deleted "rarely" used items. Now I have no sound and don't know how to reinstall. Didn't have any restore dates either. Only 345mg free space. What is the windows os? I've tried 7, Vista, XP. All answers are incorrect. "No audio Device, & No active mixer Devices" system says.

A:Uninstalled SoundMax, now no sound

We need to know the brand and model of your computer or motherboard, and operating system.
When you run the defragmentation for Windows, how much free space shows at the end of that defragment update. You want at least 15% free space.
If you have the space, the first thing you need to do is download and install the drivers for your sound system on the motherboard or on a sound card...
Do you know what your sound system is? If so, you can download driver updates from the sound card manufacturer or the motherboard manufacturer, and then installing them is a simple "click on the download" and follow the instructions.

BUT THATS UNDER OTHER DEVICES.. i went to dell drivers and downloads and downloaded Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio, right after it finished.. or i think finished something poped up with a big red x the title was soundMAX - Installshield Wizard and in the box it read, "windows audio service has been enabled! please restart your computer and run this installer again". i did, and the exact same thing poped up. So, i decided to download soundmax file version:4.0.100.1189. i ran that program or driver or whatever it was and a box poped up with a big red x once again.. it read "Driver not found! Reboot your system, and run this setup again." i restarted the computer and installed the program again but again it said the same thing, at this point im stuck and dont know what the h*ll to do.:dead:.

I had to install a new hard drive on my computer. Now, I can not get any sound. In trying to install the device driver from the Dell Resource CD, I get an error that says "an error occured while unzipping. One or more files were not successfully unzipped. The error code is 40." Then it asked me to restart my computer and try again. This happens when I get to the SoundMax Install Wizard screen. I have a Dell Dimension 4550 and am running on Windows XP. The Audio Driver is SoundMax: Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio Driver. Any information would be helpful. Thanks in Advance

A:Uninstalled Soundmax drivers & now get an error message

Go to Dell's website and their support section enter yur service tag number and go to the downloads section for your machine and download the drivers from there. they probably have an updated one there anyway.

I was attempting to begin using Bit Torrent for utilizing AVI and other video file types for viewing. However, I got no sound. Bit Torrent's help section says the following:

The reason for this is an issue with Windows DRM, the rights management tool BitTorrent uses to authorize your viewing of the file you downloaded. Some of our content has tighter playback restrictions than others. In this case it is seeing your display settings as not allowed by the license.

In many cases this message is in error. If you have older video drivers (pre-July 2005) and are using a laptop and/or a VGA output device there is a chance Windows Media Player will think there is something wrong. To correct this, you can upgrade your video drivers to current versions. This will fix this issue for your future viewing on our site or others in the future for that matter.
To check your video drivers, go to the Control Panel and double-click on the Display icon. In the Display window select the Settings tab. Click the Advanced button. Select the Adapter tab. Click the Properties button. Finally, select the Driver tab. In this window will be displayed the Driver Date. If it is before July 2005 you will need to update your video drivers. The Update Driver button in the window is unlikely to do this properly. You should go to your computer manufacturer's web site to download the latest drivers, or to the site of your video adaptor manufacturer. Upon updating your driver the file should play ... Read more

I had to use application recover on Sept. 27th...I had SP2 installed...I've been trying to build things back up...because I lost my files. I can't get automatic update to work. I can't get my download history on Windows Updates. The Windows Updates page just freezes. I'm wondering if I should order the CD. I just go in circles with the pages on SP2 download. I can't get anywhere. Sorry if I'm not explaining this well enough for anyone to understand. I've worked so hard to get back from the wipe out. My noggin isn't quite up to par. Just wanted to see if anyone would have a clue.

A:SP2...installed, uninstalled....reinstall

Noonytunes, first, I feel for you. There wasn't an easy answer when I found myself in similar dire straits. This link is to a thread that you'll note (aug19th 2:58pm) contains details. Pay attention to the Aug24th reply. If nothin' else it may be food for thought 'til that elusive authoritative reply arrives.Just when things are goin' fine somethin' else comes along to throw ya a curve I have the CD now. It took about two weeks to get it. I haven't used it yet. Sp2 is in place and fully functional. I will use it and CD's for the Office Suite in due time, next reformating I do. The slipstreaming is not as crucial if you have them & don't need to spend hours at windows update as was the case before SP2.I've worked so hard to get back from the wipe out. My noggin isn't quite up to par. Just wanted to see if anyone would have a clue.I'm sorry it is such a roundabout way to get a clue, but it does make sense. I had 4 CD's with data to fall back on. I simply copy/burn the current contents of my drives periodically, and still end up losin' one thing or another. I too have a noggin' dat 'taint always up to par. BTW, nan...whoops..noonytunes, too much Micrroospeak can do that to ya!!!

It was suggested that I uninstall the past versions of Flash Player before
I upgraded. I think that went well because any flash site I visit now gives
me an error message that says I have to download flash to view their site.
But upon installing FP 9 for my Mac OS X 10.3.9, I have had problems.

First, after downloading, no Flash icon appears on my desktop to click on
and finish installing. Rather what appears is a standard mac "stationary pad"
image that says: install_flash_player_9.dmg and when I click on it a file
opens that shows Flash plug-ins, but nothing to click on and install Flash.
So now that I have uninstalled I have no Flash at all! I have tried
downloading 4 times. I have updated my browsers and cleared cookies,
history and cache. Now I am waiting for some good advice. Any ideas on
how to fix this? Any tricks to the downloading procedure? I have used
Firefox, Opera and Camino to download it and they all are the same.
**AND, on Adobe's Uninstaller it does not mention Camino as a mac
Browser. Does this make a difference?

Below is a tech comment that I found on another post. I want to try
his suggestion to make sure I uninstalled properly, but what does he
mean by "run it from a command line"?Exactly how do I do that from
my Mac?

Thank you for your time.

A:Uninstalled Flah Player and am not able to reinstall FP 9 -

I don't know anything about Macs so I assume the reference to me in the thread you quote was to one of my attempts to help with a problem with a Windows installation.

Assuming that you got the correct version of the Adobe uninstaller for your version of the Mac software (and used the 'special' wording that is necessary to run one of those versions) I'm not sure I can be of any help. I believe that Macs don't have a Registry as such so, if your problem is caused by an incomplete uninstall of earlier versions of Flash, I have no idea where you should look to clean out any leftovers.

The fact that you are looking for version 9 suggests that your Mac software is incompatible with the newer versions. Have you seen this Adobe TechNote?; http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406791.html

The two versions of Flash 9 for Macs appear to be zipped and I wonder if that could have something to do with your problem. Do Macs come with an unzipping program as standard or do you have to install a third party one? There is a Mac forum here and you might get more help if you were to click on 'Report' and ask a Moderator to treansfer your thread there.

On my ancient Dell Latitude D520 laptop my cd drive suddenly was not responding. Troubleshooting the issue said to uninstall and reinstall the device. Following the instruction I uninstalled it (even though it still shows in my hardware Device Manager list with a Yellow ! that says "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)".

It said I may need to update my Windows software, so I updated my Windows XP with all the recommended updates. I also downloaded new drivers for the dvd drive, but when I try to run the executable it now says I either do not have admin rights to install or my driver is corrupt and needs to be reinstalled... The cd drive spins the cds and dvds, just doesn't do anything else. I do not have the original disks that came with my laptop. Can anyone help me get the use of my cd drive back?

A:Phillips cdrw/dvd uninstalled, won't reinstall

I did some more research and found the following fix. I tried it, and it worked. Hooray! My cd/dvd drive is working again.

Try this to solve this Code 39 error, follow these instructions:

NOTE: After removing these registry keys and rebooting, it may be necessary to reinstall any CD or DVD recording applications.

1) Close all open programs

2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter

3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* SYSTEM
* CurrentControlSet
* Control
* Class
* {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

* UpperFilters
* LowerFilters
* UpperFilters.bak
* LowerFilters.bak

5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor

7) Reboot
your computer

8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone

Hi dchapin and welcome to Tenforums.
Starting with Insider 14926, Windows is no longer reinstalling what you deleted. I think you need to re-register the Windows Store, then install the apps that you want back.

Code:
Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.WindowsStore_11606.1001.39.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\AppxManifest.xml"

Hi,

I previously uninstalled DnG search eng several mo ago. Now I tried to install DnG, in FF 39.0.3 and FF said it was already installed.

My question is: How do uninstall an add on that has been previously uninstalled so I can instal a newer version?

The inserted image below should explain it all:

A:FF 39.0.3 won't allow reinstall of uninstalled DnG search engine.

Mhhh... maybe you can try looking for a reference about that engine in your %appdata%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[default or your profile folder]
If not, refresh Firefox with about:support, it will save a complete copy of your current profile (including addons, prefs and saved passwords and bookmarks) and clear everything in your profile so you can add it once again.

Hi all,

I recently uninstalled my video driver as it was causing my computer to freeze.

I am now wanting to reinstall it however I cannot remember the model so do not know what to download from the geoforce site.

I have scanned for hardware changes in device manager but nothing comes up. I also ran the autoscan on the geoforce site but it did not detect anything.

Any other way of finding out the model so that I can plug in the details and do a manual search on the geoforce site?

Thanks,

Ben

Hello Ben, follow the option two, Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers. It will determine the hardware and will get the appropriate driver,

If you want the info about the card, click Start, type msinfo32 in the search box and click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Expand components in the left hand side pane, click on display. It will provide all the necessary information about the card.

I was not getting the "Get Windows 10" notification on my Windows 8.1 system. I checked for and found I had received the KB3035583 update in April that should have enabled this.

I thought maybe if I uninstalled and reinstalled the update, it might work, so I uninstalled it. But now when I run Windows Update, it does not sense that this update is missing - it's not listed as an available update, as I'd assumed it would.

How can I get this update reinstalled?

Thanks.

You will need another computer unless you use a cable to plug directly into the router.
You will have to go onto the Lenovo Website Here: Lenovo Support - Home (US)
Select your laptop make and model and find the wireless card driver. Download and install this and it should work fine again.

For a few months I've had no sound on my computer. I'm not sure if the two are related or if it was just a coincidence, but I know that it happened when I updated my graphics driver, which is integrated into my Dell DE051. I tried to roll back the graphics driver, update the audio driver, reinstall these drivers and even do a system restore. None of this made any difference and I have no idea what the problem is. I have absolutely no sound except for buzzing and cracking coming from my speakers which somehow seems to be effected by my mouse movement?... but happens constantly anyway. I have SoundMAX, and if it matters, the integrated graphics are Extreme Graphics II, whatever that is. Someone please help!

Hi,
I have just installed W7 and it have gone quite well apart from the sound. I have no surround sound, only the front speakers are working. It works fine with XP though. Ive installed the same Software as I did with XP too. The motherboard is an ECS GS7610 Ultra With

Ive used the XP drivers and Soundmax software doing the following too
Remove previous sound drivers you have on your computer
Restart your computer after you are done installing
Go to your Windows Update settings and disable both automatic download and install
Navigate your browser to ECS website and search for your motherboard type to get the drivers
Download SoundMax drivers for Windows XP Once it is downloaded, unpack the file with your favorite ZIP uncompressor
Click on setup.exe but don?t run it
Right click on the setup.exe and go to Properties
Set it as Windows XP compatible
Run the setup.exe to install the sound drivers on your computer
Once it is done, restart your machine

Windows 7 32-bit, Canon MP130 USB printer

Yesterday, suddenly, my printer was greyed out. Here's the sequence of actions I took (each unsuccessful):
1. Checked cable connections at both ends.

2. Replaced cable.

3. Checked device manager; it showed there.

4. Checked drivers.

5. Ran troubleshooting; nothing found.

6. Uninstalled printer using Revo Pro.

7. Downloaded software from Canon; started trying to reinstall but got this message. Older MP Drivers Found!

8. Tried to find the "older drivers" but can't.

9. Ran search on the C drive (a daunting task) First time through, I got an expanding pyramid of MP130 entries in a loop from AppData\temp and leading to a non-existent file. I got rid of that - I think - but still couldn't install.

Ran the search again; the loop is gone but now there aren't any search results other than the download I'm attempting to install.

Addendum:

I went in and viewed hidden devices. I think I've found a possible clue but I don't know what to do about it. Under "Other devices" I have CanonMP 130 with a circled question mark; and MP 130 with the yellow exclamation point. Then down under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" I have an Unknown Device with the yellow exclamation point. I each case no drivers are associated with the item. I uninstalled them through the device manager but when I scanned for hardware changes, they came right back.

I'm continuing to work on this on my own but I'm really way beyond my own expertise now.

Again, thanks for any help.

My HP Pavilion DV6516TX Notebook has 32 bit Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 2 installed. I accidentally and somewhat stupidly uninstalled the 'windows installer service' known as 'msiserver' yesterday using emsisoft hijackfree (i have post that event rechecked in services.msc and that specific service is just not available and is absent from the list) and since then i cannot install anything including installing windows updates. Even system restore cannot restore the 'windows installer service' and fails to restore the system completely. Is there any simpler solution to reinstall the 'windows installer service' short of completely reinstalling windows vista home premium back from scratch. I have to inform that all the other default standard services applicable for 32 bit Windows Vista Home Premium with sp2 installed are all available in services.msc

I have the 'windows vista recovery disc' specific for my system from HP when i purchased the notebook in October 2007 but that will restore the system only to factory settings without service pack 1 and 2. There is also an equivalent recovery partition on my system's hard disk. My system already has the windows installer msiexec.exe (version 4.5) in the system32 folder of windows. The winsxs store is also there. The registry however is bereft of msiserver.

I do agree it was completely stupid of me to uninstall the windows installer service but if there is a simpler solution from you as experts p... Read more

A:Accidentally Uninstalled The 'Windows Installer Service' - How To Reinstall It?

Hi pm2397, welcome to the board.

I don't see any short cuts to it. To restore the system to original factory settings with the recovery disk HP provided seems to be the best option. Plus this will avoid any other issues might show up later. Service pack 1 and 2 with be automatically update when recovery is completed. Please remember to backup all your important data.

Hi,
My grandson is getting ready to enter his senior year of high school. They have been given the Aspire 3830-T TimelineX with Windows 7 Professional installed on it.

He is not supposed to download any programs on this notebook, but he did. So, he went into the control panel and uninstalled some things. Included in this was something called Babylon and also his Atheros wifi adapter. He has tried system restore and it will not work at all.

I went to look at the system recovery and it doesn't go back to the date he did this, nor before. So, I don't know how to reinstall this for him and get him back onto wireless.

PLEASE help me or he could end up suspended from school.
Thank you so very much.

Pam

A:Solved: accidentally uninstalled wifi adapter, can't reinstall HELP

You should probably bring this to the attention of the school's tech support or help desk, most high schools have at least one person in the district for tech support and troubleshooting.

I'm guessing this a school-wide image used on all the laptops like the one your grandson was given. Messing around with it any further might get him into trouble. Just ask the tech support to fix his wireless problem and leave it at that.

I decided to format my computer and reinstall Windows XP Home Edition. I have a Soundmax sound card. Sound was working great until I installed service pack 2. After SP2 was installed, no sound.

I have a Dell Dimension 4550, and have downloaded and reinstalled the most up-to-date drivers from Dell.

Before you ask, I am not an idiot. It is not muted. There is no speaker icon in my system tray after installing SP2.

I looked at Device Manager, and the device is working properly, and drivers are working properly. There are no yellow or red marks on anything in Device Manager.

When I go to "Sounds and Audio Devices" in my control panel, it says "No Audio Device." Everything else is greyed out. When I click on the "Audio" tab, the Default Device is "Modem #1 Line Playback", with no other options in the drop down menu.

I looked at the Standard Services in the Administrative Tools, and the Windows Audio service is set to start automatically and is indeed started.

These are all the things I tried from other threads. What now?

A:No Sound after Installing SP2, Soundmax

Well, I fixed my own problem, even though the Dell tech people could not (which isn't saying much).

If the order of installation is O/S, new Dell Soundmax drivers, then service pack 2, the sound card will not work. The latest drivers do not appear to work with SP2. I decided to re-install my O/S (for the third time), use the drivers from the disk that came with my computer, then install SP2. And guess what? The sound works!

It might be if I had installed the O/S, then Service Pack 2, then the latest drivers that it would have still worked, but I'm just not up for an experiment requiring a fourth install of the O/S.

In short, if you are having this problem, try installing the OLD drivers for the Soundmax sound card, NOT the most up to date drivers from the Dell site. That's what did it for me. Who needs up to date drivers anyway?? ;-) If you MUST have the most up to date drivers, try installing the service pack before you install the drivers.

I hope someone can help me. I recently bought a Dell Optiplex GX280 computer (Windows XP) that has a SoundMAX sound card. I have logitech speaker system. When I plug them in to the back of my computer, only 3 of the speakers in my surround sound work. Only the middle "green" port on the back of my computer is producing sound. The outside blue and pink ports do not seem to work. I do not have a mixer icon for SoundMax to configure my speakers. Dell is telling me it is software related. I have updated drivers and deleted and reinstalled....no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get this to operate correctly? I am running out of options.

Thanks and peace to all!

A:Help ive got no sound!!! And ive got this SoundMax Error! Please help me!!!!!!!!!

To install drivers from the internet:

go into Windows Explorer, left click on Desktop, then File, then New and then Folder - name the folder XXXDrivers (where XXX = type, eg, AudioDrivers)

go to the site for your driver, find the RIGHT one for your mobo and OS,(click on the nearest site to you if appropriate) and then download button - when asked where to 'save' the download specify your desktop folder XXXDrivers and wait until the download is complete.

Once it is done, clear your screen and click on the desktop folder and then on the file inside - if it is a zip or rar file it will need to be unzipped or unpacked - make sure if you are asked to specify where to unzip/unpack to tell it to do so to the XXXDrivers folder.

Once you are done that, uninstall the old drivers for the device and then select the device and specify update drivers and direct the search to the folder you made (don't let Windows do it).

OK first off I have windows XP, and my motherboard is an Asus 94C800-E Deluxe, I am not using a seperate soundcard I am using the onboard one with my mobo.

Ok I wanted to use my mic to talk with friends online during warcraft using teamspeak. I baught a new mic, dident work no matter what. I tried EVERYTHING, ive read a ton of forums here and other places and tried it all. The only thing that was left that coulda been the problem was the soundcard or drivers or somthin then i found it. I needed to uninstall soundmax and reinstall it. Problem is I dont got my Asus CD. But thats ok I figured the latest drivers would work. So I
> uninstalled Soundmax via add/remove progs > reboot > reinstalled it using the newest mobo driver > reboot> and I came back and got the message "No ADI codec driver is installed"
Crap.
So after some forum searching, found that uninstalling soundmax uninstalled the audio drivers too and I needed to get them and put em in again. I have searched and searched and searched and I keep getting soundmax audio drivers . But I get the message "Driver not found! Reboot your system, and run setup again." everytime I try to install them! Ive googled this error and found some information, but no solutions. Im very stuck and very much in trouble.

Ive been up all night trying to solve the issue. First I just wanted my mic, but now I want my sound back. Someone please help me.

A:Soundmax driver problems, help I have no sound!

are you sure you're using the right soundcard drivers? is it the one that came with your mobo? if not, then try using the drivers provided with your motherboard. perhaps you need to acquire the latest driver version from asus.

to check your sound settings, go start>control panel>sounds and audio devices>audio
you should have your soundmax digital audio selected for every field

Hey,
I just transfered my IBM Netvista 2292 motherboard into a new tower. The speakers and sound worked fine in the IBM case and now it can not find my driver for the sound. The only option is Bluetooth Audio which is useless. I have a soundMAX onboard audio NetVista A22p 2292, Intel Pentium 4 motherboard. I don't think I put the IDE cables in the same hard drives ( I have 2 a Maxtor ATA DiamondMax plus 9 120 GB/ 133 HDD and for storage a Maxtor 20 GB AT D740X-6L) as before because I had to change in my DOS to boot hard drive 1 instead of hard drive 0 which is my old start up. That might have something to do with the problem. I have PhoenixBIOS and tried to update that to no avail. I also tried to update the soundMAX and reinstall, but get the error message, "Driver not found! Reboot your system, and run setup again." Which never works. What do you guys think?
Thanks for any help you may have.

Hello
I have a thinkcentre serial is 8171-CTO; I ran the Win7 upgrade advisor but after about 20 tries it told me over and over again I had no internet connection!1! Which I do as I had freshly downloaded the tool.

Anyway, I decided to go for it anyway (doh) and although the OS etc installed fine, I am left with no sound. I have searched google and read forum after forum to get it working but nothing I try works.

For example I have asked Windows to "fix the problem" ... "unable to fix the problem"
Tried going to Soundmax's website - their support pages are "under construction".

Anyone able to help me please with links to drivers or stuff to try?

does anyone know where i can get a x64 version of SoundMAX for win7

A:5.1 surround sound problems with SoundMAX

On many systems, SigmaTel drivers from the motherboard vendor are required for the sound to work correctly. Windows installs a generic SoundMax driver (SoundMax is now called IDT) and in some cases the Windows drivers do not work or work correctly. I'd check the ASUS site to see what they have as a starter.

On some devices Vista drivers will work with Win 7, since Win 7 is basically "Vista improved". You may have to install the SoundMax drivers in the Vista compatibility mode to get them working if there are no Win 7 specific drivers available.

Well, this morning, I was doing my daily cleanup of any unnecessary files and every once in awhile I have the urge to cleanup via the "Add or Remove Programs" feature in the Control Panel.

Basically, I mistakingly un-installed the SoundMAX driver and my speakers lost complete ability to function. The computer was all of a sudden detecting them but telling me that it hasn't been installed. Well we all know that whole Add Hardware system is ridiculous and I resorted to internet searching to find someone with a similar problem, hoping to find a cure for the sound problem.

Basically, I tried to install the most recent SoundMAX driver but when it finishes installation I get an error that reads... "Did not detect driver. Reboot and try again" (something along those lines.) Well I did that twice and the same error reocurred. So I tried several other different drivers and I had the same problem. So I tried a apparently famous solution made by some guy on another tech site, and it was basically the .inf file being used in the "Add disk" section using the add hardware program. That didn't work either.

So I'm pretty sure I may need to buy something but I really don't know what to do at this point.

If someone could give me a helpful solution that'd be great. Or if you need any more information just ask.

Thanks.

Hi there, hope you guys can help me

I recently reinstalled WinXP Pro for a colleague, and I've got everything working again except for the sound.

She's using an integrated SoundMAX Digital Audio device (specifically AD1980). I have installed the lastest drivers from the ASUS site, and can't get any sound.

The device has definitely installed properly - it shows up in sound properties, device manager etc, and Media Player will play a track, but it falls on deaf ears (or more fittingly, mute speakers )

From what I can ascertain, the driver is trying to use a digital output (i.e. SPDIF), but that motherboard only has the normal green speaker jack.

In Vista, this is just a case of going to audio properties and disabling digital output and selecting the standard jack for output, however I couldn't find how to do this in XP, if it's even possible.

I'm fairly sure that's the problem, but my diagnoses have been wrong before - I'd be grateful for your help either way.

Thanks,
/L I

Hello please help. I have a soundMAX integrated digital HD audio in my PC, with the following 5.10.1.4151 drivers installed.

The problem I am having is that after my PC being on for a few hours when I try to play an MP3 file or a video file the sound is very choppy and skipping. This PC is only about 3 months old. It has 1GB RAM and a DualCore Intel Pentium D820 processor and the motherboard is an ASUS PV5D2-MX-00. I am running winXP Pro.

According to device manager the drivers are dated 5/10/2005, which I guess makes them pretty old......

How can I fix this problem? I rarely have more than 2-3 programs running at the same time so I don't think too much strain is the problem. Do I need to upgrade the drivers perhaps? On this page (http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us) I found the following drivers, but not sure if they are the ones I need to download. Just posting up the driver I used for my onboard sound card. It's a 'soundmax' but I used the Realtek ALC650 driver:

http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mis...50_wdma341.zip

It works fine outputting PCM via the s/pdif port but I've had no success outputting DTS or Dolby Digital.

In Windows XP I could run Intervideo WinDVD 4/6/7 and DTS / Dolby worked fine. All other software, even when using AC3 filter failed to output anything but stereo.

If anybody has any success with this please let me know.

I have an IBM Thinkpad R40 with a SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio sound card. For some reason the sound just stopped working. The drivers all appear to be ok. I downloaded and installed the latest drivers for the card. When I use any audio devices they perform normally, but there is no sound. I've checked all volume control settings. I've used different speakers plugged into both my docking station and directly into the laptop. When using sound recorder and playing a sound, I can see the graphic display the sound wave form, but no sound. When in safe mode or bios mode, the onboard speakers work and the onboard volume controls work in that I can hear the various beeps and such. I tried rollbacks to restore points when I knew the sound was working, thinking that maybe some update or software install caused the problem. But nothing seemed to work. I'm open to any suggestions, since I've tried about everything I can think of including searching all over the net for a solution.

Any help?

It seems that my Windows 7 installation is getting worse by the day on my desktop (see specs linked to my account). It is just issue after issue it seems. Now my audio is not working on Windows 7, but on my Linux installation it is which leads me to think that a driver issue has arisen. Additionally, when I click on my SoundMAX icon, it just gives me an error saying No SoundMAX audio device detected. I do not have a dedicated sound card as my motherboard's integrated one does fine (until now, but still I think it is a software issue, not a hardware issue as it is working great with Ubuntu 10.04)

My Windows 7 Home Premium x64 installation is not a clean install. I used the upgrade option as I got Windows 7 Upgrade Option for free right before it came out when I bought my PC with the equivalent Vista. I've heard since that it was a mistake to do so and that a clean install is always better (is this true? ).

Also, another question. Would updating my BIOS (which is extremely easy with the P6T Deluxe V2 motherboard) help anything at all? I apologize if any of this post seems dumb. I'm kinda new to the extreme hardware. Sometime this month will be the 1 year mark for me upgrading from entry level (*cough* eMachines w3400 ) to enthusiast hardware.

Sound levels of main driver reset on (closing the lid?,) sleep, or restart.
Main driver: Soundmax as installed via Windows Update
Overlayed driver: SRS Audio Sandbox

Main output: Line Out
"Default" levels: 89,19,20 for Main,Left,Right
Preferred levels: 20,20,20 for Main,Left,Right

(Left,Right settings available in additional settings for balance per channel)
(19,20 Left,Right was once chosen to compensate for slightly broken headphone)
At preferred levels, using the volume buttons to alter levels processed with SRS Audio Sandbox provide a tolerable maximum level. 20 is good, 89 is way to loud.

Clearly, something causes the settings to reset to the wrong "Default levels".

Hey I have had RC 2 installed since it came out, but I uninstalled it last night so that I can get the rtm version when ever it comes out, but now my sound card wont work. Its a Hey I have had RC 2 installed since it came out, I reinstalled the drivers and it still wont work, in device manager it says it cant find the driver. I restarted windows and ran windows update and it finds drivers, but the install just fails after about 5mins.

I think I have tried everything, just wondering if anyone has had this problem and no how to fix it. I will point out this is the first ever problem I have not been able to fix in less then 5mins. Iam sure if I reinstalled it would work fine again but I would like to avoid that if I can.

A:Uninstalled Sp1 RC2 now I have no sound

List your system specs.

Try taking your audio device out of the computer or if its built in disableing it in the bios.
Then uninstall it in safe mode.
Reset the computer to clean up any files left over.
Reinstall the sound card then the drivers that came with it.

If anyone knows a quicker way around this I would like to know.

Hi guys,

Recently I noticed that my sound was malfunctioning. If I play music in iTunes or watch a DVD in Windows Media Player, it's just fine, but if I try and watch a video on Youtube or stream video on the internet, no sound will play. Also, the volume control icon in the taskbar is missing.

I went into "sounds and audio devices" in the control panel, and tried to check the "place volume icon in taskbar" box, but received an error message the sound volume control was not installed. So I found sndvol32.exe in my I386 folder and copied it to my system32 folder. Now, I can check the "place volume icon in taskbar" box, and access the volume control, but the icon still won't appear in the taskbar.

I've tried reinstalling my sound driver from the lenovo website (hxxp://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-61604) and tried all the suggestions on this site: hxxp://www.codecguide.com/fix_for_flash_sound_problems.htm. None of them solved my problem.

I recently received help with virus removal in the security center part of this forum. We ran combofix to remove the virus, and I have no idea if this has something to do with my sound problems.

I'm running Windows XP, service pack 3, on a 5-year-old IBM Thinkpad. I've never had a Windows disc. I bought my computer through my school, and it came preloaded with XP.

I'd love it if anyone had any ideas about what's wrong with my sound.

Thanks so much, and Happy New... Read more

On my windows vista desktop I upgraded from integrated video chipset to PCI-E Graphics card.
Per the installation instructions I uninstalled the current video adapter via the device manager and uploaded drivers for the new one off the disc. Now the graphics are much faster but I have NO AUDIO./ When I reboot I get message Win/System 32rundll/ is not associated with a program.

I found on computer spec that the Motherboard had following : Sound : ALC 888Schipset high definition audio. Tried downloading drivers from Realtek and enabling sound. This resulted in bluescreen crash.

Tried buying new pci soundcard and installing drivers on cd. this also results in bluescreen crash at startup. Both times I had to start in safemode and disable audio drivers. Still I have no sound and no idea where to go next.

Being the pro that i am - i've accidently uninstalled my sound whilst trying to add/remove some other programs.

I am using my Dell inspiron 1525 laptop - i have spoken to dell who[after remote accessing] hadn't got a clue what the issue was and decided to fob me off by saying as i 'downgraded' from vista to XP i wasn't warranty covered.

I've also tried installing many drivers - including the ones from their website - which ends up with the error message 'this is not the right driver for this system' although to get to it i had to insert my service tag.

So i'm soundless. - When i goto 'sounds and devices' in control panel, all of the sound options have been greyed out.

Device Audio : 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller

Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks!

A:Accidentally Uninstalled my sound

Look in Device Manager to see if there is a yellow question mark item for it. Tight click it then click Properties, the the Details tab. For Device instance Id you should see a text string similar to "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801B5". That should tell us what driver you need.

Also look in Device Manager under System Devices. There should be an entry for Universal Audio Architecture version 1.0a. This driver needs to be there before you can install the HD audio driver.

Hello there,

I have been experiencing some issues with sound on my computer. It's flickering when I use the computer at the same time and listen to the music most usually on youtube, but sometimes on VLC too.
What I tried to do is to uninstall the audio driver (Realtek) and to install the version that is available on the producer's website (it is a dell xps l 501 laptop).
At the end of the uninstalling process, the install wizzard asks me to reboot, what I do, and when the computer starts up, I can see that it installs a driver for the audio device, but it is not the Realtek driver. The sound works just fine for all programs: browsers, VLC etc.
In the Control Panel there is no Realtek driver or any other audio driver mentioned.
So, my question is: is this normal? Is this some sort of windows integrated driver that gets installed when windows do not find the audio device after the reboot?
I tried to do this several times, and when I uninstalled it for the first time, after the reboot my Mcafee untivirus was disabled and the FFprotection (I suppose this is the right name for it) from windows was disabled as well and I reactivated both of them from the action center.

Thank you.

A:Uninstalled driver -- sound is still working

Yes, it is normal. After you uninstall a driver and reboot, Windows will see the device as new and install generic Windows drivers for the device. You can install the RealTek driver over the Windows driver. This will replace the generic Windows driver. After installing the RealTek driver you may have to reboot. After the reboot it will use the RealTek driver.

I have a HP Pavilion g6, Win10. Today the sound on my laptop started playing from the speakers and headphones at the same time. A quick google tells me this is a known and stubborn problem for some HP users. None of the advice worked for me so I tried the option of unisntalling and reinstalling the sound drivers. Looking at the 'Sound' tab of the cotrol panel in Playback there was a device, IDT High Definition Audio, which said it wasn't working. Looking at the control panel I had two options for which sound driver to uninstall- AMD HD Audio Device, or IDT High Definition Audio. Given the fact that IDT Audtio was apprently not working, I chose to unisntall that one. I unchecked the box saying to remove all drivers.  Apparently this was the wrong thing to do, but the instructions made no mention of this. I then searched for and downloaded the IDT High Def Audio driver, restarted my computer and... No sound, and no way of reinstalling the driver. In device manager if I scan for hardware changes it comes up with nothing. If I try all the options to reinstall the sound driver, and even specify the folder where I downloaded the IDT High Def driver, it tells me my sound driver is already up to date. In the Sound tab of the Control Panal, in Playback, I now only have one thing - "Digital Display Audio" - and that's with it showing disabled devices too. Help! Thanks.

I've been working on my In-Law's Toshiba laptop with XP Home SP3. I just spent over a week working with a very helpful member in another part of the forum cleaning dozens upon dozens of viruses & rootkits off the computer. I was at the Microsoft site & tried to run their Live One Care and first it required me to take McAfee off the computer & then half way through the install of the Live One Care all the IE windows closed. I didn't get any sort of errors, it just closed. When I tried to open IE again, I got an error saying it could not access it & I may not have permissions (screen shot attached) I uninstalled the Live One Care but still got the same error. So I uninstalled IE7 & tried to reinstall it. It runs through set up then tells me it didn't install properly & I need to restart & then follow the trouble shooting link it put on the desktop. I restart, but when I click on the link, I get the same error again. I read that if you already have SP3, you have to uninstall it before you can reinstall IE, so I tried that, but still get the same error. I also cannot reboot in Safe Mode. I have been on a long journey trying to repair my son's computer. I'll do my best to untangle the events and lay it out for you. He has a Gateway notebook with XP pro installed. He has an XP firewall, Norton 2005 Suite, and runs AdAware and Spybot daily, to control spyware.

There's never been a problem until 2 days ago. First, Norton stopped working. He discovered this when he tried to do a system scan, but it wouldn't scan. Instead, he saw a message that said to uninstall the program, and then reinstall. Nothing was working. Error messages were beside all the antivirus function keys. He uninstalled the program, but he can't reinstall yet. He doesn't have the disk. It was left at my brother's house, who lives out of state. He is mailing it to him, but in the meantime, I installed AVG so that the computer wouldn't be exposed. Then he ran his spyware programs. They showed that he'd picked up some bugs. Even after removal, the computer acted strangely. I installed a copy of SpySweeper and Spy Doctor on his system. They both showed many entries for dialers and browser hijacking programs. Even after getting rid of them, the computer has continued to fall apart. Who knows what's on the computer? Four programs found different things. I don't know if we got everything or not. It's so frustrating that one program can't do the job.

Today I tried to see what I could do with it. Help and support cannot be... Read more

Hi there,

Can't you even do a reformat of the hard drive? If there's all kinds of viruses on there, a complete refresh might be the only option.

Failing that, my PC was once as near-dead as you can imagine. Unable to re-boot, etc and I'd been through every imaginable potential solution ... various Safe Mode manoeuvres, playing with BIOS settings, attempting System Restores, you name it. I was literally about to give up and reformat when I bought VCOMs SystemSuite. I used Recovery Commander from in there and it reset my PC to an earlier state like a dream! I hadn't even set any restore points for Recovery Commander to work with. It just worked.

I don't work for VCOM, but I'd recommend SystemSuite anyday. And advise you to leave Norton WELL alone!

I believe my problem is s/w related (malware). Initially I thought my HDD was failing but then I noticed I'm able to use most functions perfectly in Safe Mode (except I cannot open Word, Excel, etc). But I'm writing this from Safe Mode. Based on that I assumed my HDD might be ok.

I have had malware before, and twice before I wiped everything out and reinstalled win7 with the recovery discs.

However this time I'm having a problem. I follow the steps: Hit F12, select "CD/DVD Drive" but instead of reading my disc (the System Disc), it takes me straight to the start up, i.e. "Starting Windows". Even when I do a hard power off, I still have to select either one of the Safe Mode options or Normal Mode. In the past it would just read my recovery disc. I even tried going into BIOS and selecting the CD/DVD drive as 1st drive read. That didn't help either.

Anyone know what's going on and how I can get around this?

Also based on what little you've heard, does it sound like I have malware or a failing HDD? (not sure there's enough info for you to answer this question, but I thought I'd give it a shot. I know squat about this stuff).

Thanks in advanced!

and welcome to the Forum

You can rule out drive failure by running diagnostics on the hard drive by downloading Seatools and making a bootable disc. Do the short and long test.

If either test fails, the drive needs to be replaced.

I'm trying to do a clean install of XP pro by booting the factory cd it came with. All the partitions were deleted and a full format was performed. When the first portion of the setup is complete it reboots, it then gives a screen that says:

Diskette drive 0 seek failure
Press F1 to continue, F2 to enter setup

So I press F1 and it gives me a blue screen that says:
A promblem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Technical information:

Its my girlfriends computer and she has completely given up. If anybody has any suggestions please let me know. Thanks.

Does that mean that you are following the manufacturer's instructions for using said CD? There are instructions, you know.

At 9am I found I had the XP2012 virus

By 11am, thanks to the excellent advice here, I had disabled it and hopefully removed it.

By 11.30 it was clear that I also had the Google redirect virus. More searching on this forum led me to download and run the Kaspersky fix via another PC

By 12pm the fix had detected, cured and wanted a reboot. Reboot led to an endless boot-loop. Disabling automatic restart showed a Stop 0x0000007B error.

By 5pm, after trying every bit of online advice I could find, without getting any further, I resigned myself to a re-install, even if it meant losing everything. Put the Windows XP disc in the drivem, waited a long time for drivers to load, then presented with the same blue screen error. I can't even get as far as the Recovery Console.

It's now 8pm and I have run out of online advice to follow. Suffice to say I've had better days (grrrrrr)

Any help greatly apperciated

edit: Don't know if it's a related problem, but the laptop seems to be running extremely hot.

OK, I admit it - I made the classic mistake.

My Fujitsu laptop has a Synaptics touchpad. I thought I would update it, went to Synaptics site, installed what I thought was the correct update, and discovered it wasn't. I uninstalled it, and launched the original setup.exe from my installation disks. It starts the installation, but halts with the message: 'A serious internal error has occurred. please contact your Touchpad supplier. ([email protected])'

I have contacted both Fujitsu and Synaptics support. Both are unable to help me. I have removed every reference to Synaptics I can find in the registry, but it makes no difference.

It has defaulted to the Windows XP driver, but on every boot up, it detects new hardware, but comes up with an unable to install message.

I'm stumped - can anyone help? Ideally, I'd like my original Synaptics driver back (it has more functionality than the Windows one), but as a last resort, can I get Windows to stop trying to detect it (it really slows my Windows-loading time).

TIA

Hi, {First, I feel that this problem would be better off in our Hardware forum, so if you dont have any objection, I will put it in there for you. No need to apologize, you did nothing wrong }

Have you tried System Restore? If you have that running you should be able to roll back to yesterday or some point.... Trying a Restore Point is reversible, that is, you can undo the Restore and get back to where you are now. (I know, you feel like you need a roadmap about now....just keep careful notes about what changes you make as you go along, dates and names of Restore Point, etc.) Regedits are not reversible.

One other way to try and fix it might be to start up in Safe Mode and try to remove any mouse entries in the Device Manager and restart, let it be redetected, but Cancel the new hardware detection if you see that option. Then, install the software for the Synaptic touchpad.

Yet another, this might work to stop the touchpad detection:

In the BIOS is there a setting to switch to a PS/2 mouse or other mouse (Input device)?

You may be able to disable the touchpad and just use a regular plugin mouse, IF the notebook has a PS/2 port, some have more than one PS/2 and they are labeled MOUSE or KDB with a pic of those items....?
