White 'faded area' around edge of lcd monitor

Q: White 'faded area' around edge of lcd monitor

I have a maxtech(i know) 19' lcd that has a white ghostlike area around the edge of the screen that goes away after it is on for about 30m-1hr. The monitor is over 3 yrs old. Anyone know why it does this? Is it going bad?

A: White 'faded area' around edge of lcd monitor

Offhand? Given the age; I would first think that the fluorescent tube light used to backlight the screen is beginning to go bad. It starts off a little to dim with the edges worst, just like a fluorescent tube in a ceiling light. Once warmed up it reaches full brightness .
This is fixable, the bulbs are designed to be replaced .

But if it is something more complex like the internal electronics the monitor may be on the way to the junk pile.

I recently bought an Inspiron 7559 laptop and then decided to clone the HDD with a Sandisk 1TB SSD. I also added another 8GB main memory. I replaced the drive and the PC worked just fine.
After a few days, I quick formatted the HDD and put it back in as a Data D drive. The day I did that Dell upgraded my BIOS and on reboot soon after a square block of white area appeared on the top left quadrant of either of my screens, the laptop or the U2415 (also brand new.) If I move between the screens then the other does not show the anomaly.
If I right click on the task bar and bring the desktop up the block gets painted over/filled with the background. However if I start an app, say a browser the block re-appears. I did Dell diagnostics which passed all the components and then also diagnostics via the BIOS and that also did not show any problem. I decided against the longer diagnostic for now.
There does not seem to be any issues but it would be good to solve it...maybe something came loose when I opened the back and replaced the SSD or the HDD.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This issue is very difficult to reproduce. Screenshots do not show it when I look at them with my other monitor.

I just replaced my old 1600 x 900 monitor with a new Sceptre television.
Sceptre U435CVUMC 43 4K Ultra HD 2160p 60Hz LED HDTV 4K x 2K
My old AMD Radeon 6950 could not do such a high resolution so I got a new GTX 970 graphics card.
EVGA GTX 970 4GB GDDR5 04G-P4-2972-KR 2DVI/HDMI/DisplayPort PCI-E Video Card

Currently I have a dual monitor setup with both monitors connected to the new graphics card. On the TV, all text has a distinct glowing white border around it. I can see it in Notepad, the title bars of all windows, even the underscore, square, and X buttons at the upper right of all windows have this white glow around them. It's hideous. When I try to screenshot it and bring it over to the other monitor, you can't see it. It's not exactly like a background color is set to white. More like, it clearly conforms to the edges of the letters.

No it does not just appear on title bars. It also appears in the form I'm typing into right now on this website. I think it's hardware because I can't reproduce it with screenshots.

I will attach a cell phone photograph.

Fujitsu CRT monitor has a suddenly "faded" display, as if the screen has been whitewashed. It's also slightly out of focus, and there's a tiny black dot in the middle. It's still usable (using it now to post this). Tried degaussing a couple of times, no result, though at one point it displayed properly for an instant during one degaussing. Any help appreciated.

hello. having problems with LCD montior. It is a quality monitor--NEC Multisync LCD 1830--but is about 5 years old.

For a week or so it was flickingering slightly. Then one day it faded to black for a minute, came back for 30 seconds, then went black for a long time. On subsequent days I tried it, no luck. Then one day I tried it again and it worked for a few minutes before fading to black again. When it works for brief periods, the image quality is perfect. But at any time it is liable to go totally black again.

Might it be at the end of its lifespan? Can anyone tell me the normal lifespan for LCD's?

Are they worth repairing, in general?

Note: i am quite sure the problem is with the monitor, not the CPU or anything else. i hooked up another monitor and it has been working perfectly for days.

So my issue is like the image I posted above - I have faded blackish lines moving all over the screen (kind of a fuzziness). It will gradually change as I change the monitor refresh rate, however it's always there. I have noticed, I can only see it in windows; if I'm in bios, It's not active. I can not try another monitor because I have no other monitor.

Hello. This is my first post on these forums.

Getting to the point, I have a Panasonic TV which I have been using as a Secondary Monitor for the past few months, and it has worked perfectly (with an S-video cable). One day I was using it for general reasons and the screen faded to black, and I knew it was on standby. Problem is, I tried everything, but it seemed to stay on standby no matter what. I have tried reconnecting the S-video cable to many places both on PC and Monitor, still same result.

I am using AV3 on the monitor, and am using the Operating System Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit.

UltraMon doesn't seem to be helping in any way with it, and yes, the monitor is enabled in Display Settings.

I honestly have no idea at all why it just went black one day, other things such as my Xbox and normal TV viewing works perfectly on my Panasonic TV.

A:Secondary Monitor faded and won't work again (Panasonic)

Oh great. It still doesn't work.

hi ,
i have 2 identical hp w2007 flat screen monitors. they are both installed on
identical gateway 3 yr old PC's with xp. one monitor is upstairs, and mine is downstairs. mine works perfectly .. they one upstairs.. lets call it monitor 1,
has developed a bright or washed out , bright horizontal line about 4" tall-going across the entire screen.
... along with this problem it doesn't have true black ,(more of a black brown faded) on all black screens...
Mine , monitor 2, is perfect.
monitor 1, started having issues ,with not holding, a preferred setting.. it wouldn't hold resolution, size or brightness , contrast and other settings.. i have uninstalled the new monitor and software and reinstalled it.. i have tried all the monitor adjustments , i have tried to match resolutions and setting to my perfect monitor 2..nothing works.. from day one , it only had one oddity... there was a white shadow
around the arrow pointer, cursor, my monitor never had that.. i couldn't even make my pointer/cursor , do that..
does anyone think it has a burned out
band " across the monitor? what are these new crystal clear view flat screens like inside? Anyone think there is anything i can do..
could it be a bad video card.. or just a blown new monitor?
thanks for all the help.. i can sure use it..

The bottom corner of my mitsubishi diamond pro 1000 21 inch montitor sometimes fades and this morning was highly redified. so I pressed the degauss button, and that fixed things up decently thought it is still a little faded. Strangely if I move the monitor around a bit it seems to get better, depending on how it faces, but the way I want it to face makes the bottom corner not so good. Is there something I can do, some maintenance technique that will improve this situation? Thanks in advance.

I am not really an IT professional, but everyone in the office brings their problems to me since there isn't anyone else. This one I'm stumped and even search engines have failed me.

There is a laptop with a white line across the left side of the screen, about a centimeter thick with a thin green border. It appears to be "above" the desktop and task bar, because things like the mouse or icons disappear under it but still function normally. The problem has apparently been around for months (possibly over half a year) and there aren't any restore points prior to it.

The computer is a Compaq 610, running Windows XP Home SP2. Other than the white line it seems to be fully functional, but I really don't know what it is. Here are some of the things I've noticed:
- It's not a program or at least doesn't appear in Task Manager as a process.
- It doesn't change when the resolution changes.
- The computer doesn't seem to have any problems with viruses.
- The line is there starting at the POST screen and stays constantly (including Safe Mode) except when the screen briefly goes blank prior to starting up Windows.

It would seem like potentially a graphical problem but I really have no idea what to check or what would cause this. The user of this computer remembers no details and probably won't be helpful in getting any information. They have also taken the computer back, so I hope I haven't neglecting anything important to check.

A:White line along edge of screen

Connect an external monitor - does the line appear?

If NO, then you have an internal cable or screen issue.

If YES, then you have a graphics chip/card issue.

Upon using VMWare vSphere Client for the first time, I first noticed the white/blank square in the upper right corner of my desktop. It has been there ever since, even when I have not used any applications after startup.

Due to the revision the OptiPlex 990/790 system(s) will require installation of either Dell's or an embedded/custom BIOS based on A11 or later on a go-forward basis and will no longer be compatible with BIOS versions previous to A11. Hi everyone! I'm new in the forums, so hey all!

One of my first questions here:

So I was in class a few minutes ago, and while the professor was lecturing I saw one of my classmates (with Windows 7, ofcourse) opening up a few explorer windows. I was kind of surprised (and envious) to see that the white area that was supposed to be, well, white, was transparent in hers! I was sure it was transparent and not just a background photo similar to her desktop background since when she moved the windows, it basically acted like the glass window panes Aero is all about! It also has the glare/blur kind of effect I see on the Aero interface..

So how did she do it? Did she use a theme or something?

I have purchased a brand new HP 15-AB516TX laptop about 4 months back and since then I have used it moderately.Recently, when I opened log in to my laptop, I noticed couple of white bleeding pixels which was visible prominently on white backgrounds mostly. I discussed it with customer care and sent them snapshots. They suggested me to take it to a service centre or get it checked with an engineer visit to my place. I decided to take it the service center and the guys were like at first glance itself; this is a screen damage, you'll have to pay for it. Hello,
Our company  website contains a collection firmware and executable for our customers to download. Customers running Chrome, Firefox, or early versions of the IE have no issues. Customers running IE11 and
Edge on Windows 10 report that .exe files download properly, but the firmware files with a custom extension do not. Instead, IE11 opens a new tab and the new window contains a little "X" icon. That's it. Nothing in the Download area.
Some of our more adventurous customers searched through there Temporary Internet folders and found the firmware files stored as .ICO files. When the files were copied out and renamed back to to the proper extension
(the main part of the name was correct), our product read the files just file. Any idea why are the files getting their extension changed to .ICO and why are they not appearing in the download area. This is affecting multiple customers.

When XP starts up, the 'window' (i.e. desktop+taskbar) fits the monitor as one would expect. After a while ~1 or more hours the 'windows expands to the right, hiding the scrollbar of a maximised program, and the date/time in the taskbar. Sometimes This resolves itself sometimes, but usually I have to reboot to restore things. I have tried using control panel>display, and logging out&in to no avail.

Hi

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit using a 19" widescreen monitor with a native resolution of 1440x900. If I try to use this resolution I get a decent quality image, but it goes off the sides of the screen. The Geforce drivers recommend using 1440x1050, which works but everything looks squashed and not quite right, so I would prefer to use the native resolution.

The problem occurs with the Geforce drivers Windows installed by default, and with the ones I downloaded from nVidia's website (version 260.99.) While trying to mess with the display settings I managed to get a blank screen so had to boot into safe mode (where presumable it uses some sort of basic VESA driver rather than the nVidia drivers), if I set the display to 1440x900 there the image fills the screen perfectly!

In the nVidia control panel it reports the native resolution as 1440x1050.

Any ideas on how to get 1440x900 working properly?

Many thanks.

Matthew

When I turned the screen on the speck appears to be black. The speck returns to white when the screen is on, but displaying something dark. This seems to me to be strange behavior for a dead pixel, but I don't know anything about the new touch screens.  I found a 'dead pixel test' online, and against red and green backgrounds the speck appeared black, while the test would indicate that it should appear white were it so.  I think that the speck seems to be 'above' the rest of the screen slightly. Does anyone know what this is?

I have a really old 14" Tandon monitor. Windows only uses about 4/5 of the monitor screen. Unlike any modern monitors I have used, it has no means to stretch / move etc. the useable screen area (by way of buttons or wheel on monitor itself). I have been looking for a driver to install (I am just using windows standard one) that may give me these options. However, I can find nothing about this monitor online, the company dont even seem to have a website.

Is there anything I can do? I currently use a screen area of 640x480 because if I try 800x600 it uses even less of the screen and appears very squished.

I am using win98SE and the display adapter is Cirrus Logic 546X 1.71h if thats important.

Thanks

Hi All

I need a monitor that has 85mhz or higher as I'm somewhat sight impaired. anything lower than 85mhz and I can see the screen flickering; it gives bad headaches!
Currently I'm using a View Sonic; but with the recent development of the speaker within the monitor going down... I'm looking again.
I'm diabetic type 2 and with some other wired disorders that keep me a little slower in some ways than others.
Thankyou ahead for your answers.

I have a Fujitsu-Siemens Scaleoview W19.

When I leave my computer for a good while (like overnight) and come back the monitor only displays a white screen. Restarting the computer or plugging the monitor in and out does not help. The only solution I've found is to turn the monitor off and on again until it works, and that took me about 50 tries last time.

So if anyone has any suggestions I'd be very grateful

A:LCD monitor turns white

1. Don't leave your computer on overnight?
2. If you do, at least turn off the screen. You can set it to turn off after a set period of minutes.
3. Buy a new screen.

I don't know whats causing the problem or if it can be fixed so best wait for some of the others to reply.

Have you tried the screen on a different computer and the computer on a different screen?

Hi guys,

I have an acer LCD monitor, and recently I noticed a horizontal white line appearing approx 1/4 of the way down the screen. It changes colours somewhat when it has a different coloured background.

It is still there when the logo appears from acer BEFORE it starts displaying from my computer. It's 1.5 years old, but I only have a 1 year warranty.

Is there any way I can fix it? Thanks!!

A:White line on monitor

You can have a failing video graphics adapter, or a failing monitor/screen. Best thing to do is trade out monitors first. Then replace the drivers.
Be sure you have a clean system.

The cable with the white plugs at each end is a DVI (Digital Visual Interface) cable. This is the video element of an HDMI cable and enables your monitor to display higher quality graphics. Your monitor and PC will automatically detect if either the analogue (Blue plugs) or DVI (White plugs) is connected on boot up and will then configure itself accordingly. It is not possible to use both the DVI and VGA cables at the same time.

Did you reboot your PC after you connected the DVI cable? Did you disconnect the VGA cable?

Not all graphics cards support multiple monitors, if your card could output to 2 monitors it would have 2 connections of the same type. It is a lot easier to answer your questions if you complete the system specification section.

Hello, and thanks for all your previous help. My current problem is a vertical white line on my monitor about 2 inches in from the right side of the screen. It goes from the top to the bottom and is about as wide as a very small thread.
My computer is a Compaq Presario M2000 Laptop running Windows XP.
Could someone tell me if this is a defect in the screen or if it is some kind of software causing this problem?
Thanks, Roy

Hi, as I mentioned in the title my monitor has just completely gone white. It doesn't seem to be the graphics card, because I plugged in my laptop to the monitor via VGA cable and still it turns white. But I can't really confirm whether if it really is my graphics card or my monitor cause I don't have another monitor to test it out on.

A:Monitor turns white!

SO basically you have tried the monitor on two different computers? if this is true, in doing this did you use a different VGA Cable or the same one in both cases? Also does the monitor display it's on screen set up display when you press the control buttons?

I could be as simple as a bad VGA Cable, or it could be the monitor itself.

I have a HannsG HW173D 17" monitor. Recently when my monitor goes into standby or when i turn it off it glows white. I have left it alone for several hours and the glow does not go away. There are no problems with the monitor when it is running. When turned back on or taken out of standby it works fine. The only thing that makes it stop glowing is if I unplug the monitor. The monitor will be 2 years old in July and it is left on unless it goes into standby, which it is set to do after 15 minutes. I have not installed any new hardware or drivers for several months. The only other problem I have had recently was the recycler virus keeping my usb hard drives from opening, Norton's removed the virus and autorun eater fixed the problem.

A:monitor goes white/green sometimes

When it goes white, does it stay that way? If so, while it is white, see if you can pull up the monitors menu. If you can, and it looks ok, then the monitor is ok. How are you hooked to the monitor? If using HDMI, check the DVI or VGA connections, or visa versa. If the same on all, and the monitor has been ruled out, it's likely your video card. Monitor the temps while it is working hard, and see if it is overheating. if you have a spare card, use that as a test. A Guy

The minimise/maximise buttons are vertically stretched (like dining tables) instead of being square box-shaped on my monitor.

The settings are as recommended on the Samsung monitor and no amount of experimentation has improved things. One result is that I am unable to access buttons at the bottom of the screen because they have been forced downwards by the wretched vertical-stretching in the top portion of the screen.

I cannot imagine how the problem suddenly arose but it's causing me to worry!

Hi Brad

I've just spotted your email so I thought I'd bump this for you.

A few things though, 1) this is a Windows 7 forum and you are running the now obsolete XP, 2) I just don't think your old Time PC will be up to your new monitor, somebody may be able to remember how to sort it but you are using very old kit and from somebody that spent a lot of time in the Time factory back in the day...most of it was junk put together my minimum wage folks that didn't have a clue lol

Anyway it would help if you could let us know what graphics card is in your machine and hopefully somebody can advise you from there.

So I just recently bought a new Edge Z40 from Velocity Micro.

I have set it up as directed but my monitor, a working HP 2311xi does not detect a signal with tried and tested VGA DVI and HDMI cables.

I:
Unboxed it
Plugged it into an US-EU adapter (I'm in Europe)
Plugged that into a surge protector
Turned on the surge protector
turned rocker switch on the PSU on
Pressed the power button

LEDs light up, fans spin, the HDD vibrates, I put my Windows 8 disk in the optical drive and that spins, the MemOK! LED that signal a compatibility or installation problem with the RAM is NOT lit (no problems), the green LED next to the SATA 6Gb/s port is lit, and everything seems to be working fine.

Next I try plugging connecting my monitor, first with VGA, then DVI, then HDMI, but to no avail (I would try displayport but my monitor does not support it). The cables were secured at both ends, the monitor was on. It showed that it was scanning all 3 possible inputs, but reported "no signal" and went to sleep.

Since then, I tried pushing on all the connections to make sure the power supplies were connected properly, the connection from the video ports to the motherboard were firm, rearranged my two 4GB DDR3s, and tried using a step-down transformer with the 110V setting on the PSU rather than an adapter with the 230V setting.

Also, I'm not sure if this was initially there, but when I turn on the computer, after a few seconds I hear a short high-pitched 'blip... Read more

Actually during startup it is color on the tv but just when windows loads it flips to black and white suddenly. I am in Japan and have a Japanese TV and I have set the NVIDIA settings to M(Japan)/NTSC. It didn't help.
I updated the drivers.
I don't know what else to do. Can anyone help me?

If it's the monitor, junk it and look on www.craigslist.com on the free page from your city for a new monitor. I see people giving away monitors all the time. Something in the monitor is likely broken, there's a low chance that its just a loose connection, but the cost of repairing monitors rarely makes sense these days when looking at some of the LCD deals.

A few years ago, I purchased an HP 2311x monitor from a friend. About a month ago, my screen went completely white and after some troubleshooting I determined that the problem was the monitor and not the video card. I was about to put the monitor in the garage, but with three kids my budget is tight, and replacing it would put a strain on things, so I went to HP's site and read about some folks who suggested turning the monitor upside down and tapping on the top would fix it.
Surprisingly, this worked! So after about a week, when it happened again, I turned the monitor upside down a few times and my screen returned. This week when it happened, usually when the computer is unattended (maybe gone to sleep) I merely had to tilt the screen forward and the picture would come back.
Also, I noticed that the power adapter looks broken, like it is coming apart, as if my four year old child has stepped on it. I am sure that it should be replaced, and this is pretty doable for me.
One person suggested that something inside the monitor is loose and turning it upside down restores it; albeit temporarily. Should I start to save for another monitor because eventually this solution may not work anymore? Or is it possible that the problem is being caused by the adaptor that is breaking apart and I might just have to replace the power adaptor?
Thanks in advance, any insight into this issue would be appreciated.

Your TV setting might be set to NTSC on your computer while your TV requires PAL. You should be able to find this setting in the ATI Display Control Panel and change it to PAL, which I believe is used in Korea.

Not sure if this is a premature image burn or what, but for a long time now I've had this strange white contrast issue on the centre, and right hand side of my monitor. It's not really a big deal, unless I'm doing something with a dark background it becomes noticeable.

This is a particular issue in gaming as when it's night in time, it appear lighter than usual. Making it a immersive breaking element.
But I'm really not sure what is the issue, nor what caused it. Like I said, it appears to be a premature image burn but when the monitor is off, it's completely clear. Which is leading me to speculate it might be a hardware issue.
Anyway, I hope that this is understandable to someone here as it's plagued the back of my mind for a while now, and nobody has managed to give me a answer.
My monitor is a AOC 2436Swa - 23.6" - widescreen and I've had it for a year, and kept good care of it.

I have the same issue as another user on this forum. Not sure why, but his thread was closed -- despite not actually being solved.

A few important pieces of information:

- The LCD monitor can be revived by hooking it up to a specific laptop (in my case, the Acer that I'm using is able to get it back to normal again).

- Second, it is not an overheating issue -- as suggested in the closed thread.

- Third, it is not a fault with the backlight (also as suggested in the closed thread).

Finally, this issue began, around the same time that I was hit by a virus.

Is it possible for a virus to attack the circuitry of a modern energy star rated monitor?

... I've seen stranger things, in my time.

A:BENQ monitor turns white

This is usually the monitor or the cable. The fact that it seems to work on the laptop raises the possibility that it's the video card, but I notice you said "specific laptop" Does that mean that sometimes it stays white with other laptops? What is the refresh rate and resolution on the desktop?

My fathers laptop screen seems to have gotten a crack at the bottom. It doesn't affect the rest of his screen, and he needs to work over Christmas before returning home, where he'll get a replacement. As a temporary solution, I've moved the trask bar to the top of the screen, and reduced the resolution. It has helped a bit, so the computer is at least usable.

However, he's going to be making a newsletter for his company over the christmas, which he needs the entire screen for, he says. I was wondering anyone knew of any applications that would allow him to define what area of the monitor is used to render the screen, like an app that basically fools windows into thinking that the monitor only goes from point x to point y (in height).

I tried googling a bit, but searching for "adjust screen area" is so broad it's hard to find anything even remotely useful.

When the boot process stops at a blinking cursor and never goes any further it's often the system files on the hard drive. Enough loads so you don't get an error message but it never completes the process. That could be the result of a corrupted OS or a physical problem with the drive. I'm glad it seems to be working fine now but keep that in mind if it happens again.

This is for a friend so I apologize in advance for the lack of a lot of details. He is using a Dell computer with XP, about 2 years old.

While on line a few nights ago, his monitor went to a white screen. He turned everything off and restarted but the white screen persisted. The power light goes from 'green' to 'red' and some power-saving mode begins. Screen is still white -- no icons, no nothing.

I researched some troubleshooting but going into 'Safe mode' or other options requiring a screen didn't work. Using the included disk to do a repair doesn't seem like an option either (need to change the boot-sequence in the BIOS) with no screen. These are a few of the answers I found here researching.

We haven't tried eliminating the graphics card (he says he has a separate one) or checking drivers (no screen). I have an older 17" LCD monitor I am gonna get to him to try. I looked at an article provided by Phantom for WSOD but it is for IT people and pretty much useless at my or my friend's level of computer knowledge!

Any other ideas anybody can give with no monitor screen? He says he doesn't get the welcome screen or anything before the screen turns white. The mouse pointer is not visible. Nothing. What can I tell this poor guy to maybe get him going again?

Thanks in advance for any help here.

I'm lost! I have little knowledge about computers. However, I moved my home computer from one room to another and noticed that the display was a little off skilter when I got it up and running again. I went in to Start, Control panel, display and screen resolution. I slid that little arrow all the way to the right and when I clicked apply (or whatever), the screen went all white and it has lots of white noise. I can see the "ghost" of screens but I can't really see to do anything. Have I ruined my monitor? will buying a new monitor take care of the problem? I' really don't know how to get it taken care of. Thanks for any input!

A:Changed Monitor Resolution, Now The Display Is All White

Don't panic Is it Windows XP? Turn your computer off, (unplug it or keep power button pressed); turn it on again; immediately after the POST (the very first messages you see on screen after power-on) press F8 key repeatedly, until a list of options appear; choose the one that says "VGA mode" (can't remember the exact words); once Windows finish loading, your screen will be configured at minimum resolution and you can choose the right resolution or let Windows apply the best by itself.

If you have Windows 98 or ME, select the "Safe mode" option from the list after pressing F8 key, once Windows has loaded; go to screen properties, it must be configured to 640X480 at 16 colors; click on "Apply"; you'll see a warning about changes taking effect upon restart; accept and restart. When Windows has restarted, change resolution and color depth again (you'll have to do it twice: one for color and another for resolution).

Good luck.

I have no idea where they came from but I just noticed them today. My monitor is 3 1/2 years old. Does anyone know what the problem could be and how I might be able to fix it? I've tried restarting the computer, but they're still there.

Thanks for your help!

A:3 thin horizontal white lines out of nowhere on LCD monitor

Are the lines always there, even when you first turn on the computer, or does it only happen when you get into Windows (assuming your running Windows)?

What is the make and model of you PC and how old is it?
Have you ever opened up the PC and cleaned it out to get rid of dust?

My first thoughts would be that either the monitor or graphics card are on the way out, however check that the cables are all connected securely to be sure aswell.

My Compaq Colour 17 inch Monitor, model 7500's display area has shrunken width-wise!
Through the settings in the display tab and as well as through the keys on the monitor, I succeded to increase the diplay area's height but the display width seems to have permanently shrunken as a gap of 0.7 cms appears on both left and right hand side of the display and the display width does not increase further.
Someone please help to remove this abnormality on my monitor!

I have a Benq T701 17" LCD monitor that works fine for about 15 minutes or so, then the screen will quickly disappear into a plain, bright white screen, and the monitor then goes into standby - the only way to restore normal operation is to leave it off for a few minutes and then it works fine.

I've tried it on more than one system and with a replacement video cable, but it's still the same.

Any ideas on what may be wrong with it?

Thanks

A:Solved: Benq LCD monitor display turns white

Sounds like something in it is overheating........could have a repair look at it but usually not cost effective depending if its under warranty and how old it is.

Only problem is setting up wallpapers and this white rectangle in the top right hand corner of my monitor (The second monitor I hooked up) I can't right click on it or anything and when I restart the computer when it powers down the white rectangle goes away (So the monitor can't be damaged or anything right?)

Any updates on this?

I am also having the same issue. A white box appears in the top left corner of screen.

It originally only appeared after the laptop had been to sleep, but now it can appear anytime.

If i click on the 'show the desktop' shortcut (far right of start bar), the white box will minimise.

I have attached a screenshot also.

Thanks

How do I get rid of this? My second issue is I just updated my Realtek drivers from the standard "Realtek Audio Manager" and now have "Realtek SupremeFX" I can't seem to find how to enable using speakers and headphones simultaneously. I never seem to have much luck searching for things online and I'm new to forums so appreciate any and all help.

A:Fix a monitor that's flashes black red blue green and white

Hello @Jaybird69, Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that your display is flashing in colours. I am happy to assist you with this. When it is shifting colours are you still able to see what is on the screen or is it a solid colour?Have you tried connecting to a different device, or used a different connection or input on the display? Looking at the HP Pavilion w2338h Monitor - Product Specifications, your display supports VGA and HDMI (version 1.3). You can also check out this document for some troubleshooting options: HP and Compaq Flat Panel Displays - Display Quality Issues It would also be useful to check whether the same thing happens if you connect a different display to your computer. Also, please post the full product number and operating system in use on your computer. See the following, if you need help with that information. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit? Please let me know if any of that helps, and if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

Hi, as per my Topic Title, my computer Monitor has been randomly going to a black backround with a white box for mouse cursor, for no apparent reason.I'm running Windows XP SP3 and my Custom Computer's Hardware/Security Software information can be found on my Profile - if i should post it here as well, i'd be happy to - just ask.The odd thing is that the box still moves when i move my mouse, so it's clearly not a hard-lock of the system - i can ctrl-alt-del alt-u r to restart the system when it happens, rather than being forced to resort to the reset button on the case.In the past, i have also had a pink checkered backround, as well as a green backround, both with the same white box for the mouse cursor - unfortunately, however, i did not get a video of them, and those backround colors have not happened since.I'm inclined to believe the root cause *may* be hardware or software settings related, but as i am far more concerned about it being caused by an infection, i felt i would post here, first.Hopefully that's ok.I have looked over Windows' Event Viewer, Norton's Security History, run EVGA's OC Scanner (even tho i do not overclock), run Memtest86+ (just one pass), and run MemtestG80-1.1 all to no avail - nothing in Windows' Event Viewer, Norton's Security History, no Artifacts/errors in EVGA's OC Scanner, Memtest86+ came back fine, as did MemtestG80-1.1 .Here is a video i took of the issue with a digital camera and uploaded, in... Hello, I feel it may not be malware.Well lets run these ....Please download TDSSKiller.zip and and extract it.Run TDSSKiller.exe. Click Start scan. When it is finished the utility outputs a list of detected objects with description.
The utility automatically selects an action (Cure or Delete) for malicious objects.
The utility prompts the user to select an action to apply to suspicious objects (Skip, by default). Let the options as it is and click ContinueLet reboot if needed and tell me if the tool needed a reboot.Click on Report and post the contents of the text file that will open.

Note: By default, the utility outputs the log into system disk (it is usually the disk with installed operating system, C:\) root folder. The Log has a name like: TDSSKiller.Version_Date_Time_log.txt.If TDSSKiller does not run, try renaming it. To do this, right-click on TDSSKiller.exe, select Rename and give it a random name with the .com file extension (i.e. 123abc.com). I built my first computer almost a month ago now and I came home tonight and turned my computer on to find a bunch of lines, colors, and squares all over my screen to the point that I can barely see what is on the screen. I can get as far as getting to my desktop but there is so much discoloration and white squares on my screen that I can't really read anything. I'm assuming the problem is my graphics card but I'm not sure if it's the graphics card itself or maybe the port in the motherboard for the graphics card or some other problem. The site I bought my graphics card from offers a 30 day replacement but I need to receive an RMA email which is only sent on business days and I have about 5 days left until it reaches 30 days. I'm wondering if there is anything I can try to fix this issue before attempting to return my graphics card before the 30 days? Thanks in advance!

Hi guys:

My system is a custom build I completed about 3 months ago, initially I had OS reinstall/driver/ & minor stability problems using UEFI which was solved in another board on this forum by changing to MBR config – my system specs are listed.

Also to optimise OS functionality I implemented the following but will roll back if found to be thecause of the error:Turned off the Hibernation File to save disk space [OS mounted on SSD]
Shrunk System Protection to 3.4GB again to save space
Turned off Indexing to SSD only – since it has 4k read capability
Shrunk Page file to 1024MB on SSD
Set Power Option to high performance
Unchecked Defrag for the SSD & its partitions
Disabled GUI at boot
The LCD monitor is connected by the shipped VGA cable with a DVI male connector to the GPU’s DVI out putsocket – I’ve yet to purchase an HDMI cable, hopefully this might be the bottleneck & easily solvable.
btw: I’m not sure if the current problem is related to the previous OS reinstallation issues, anyways I first noticed this problem 3 weeks ago while using a free word processing application “Abiword”, when I was cut n pasting screenshots to a document the screen suddenly went white & having to restart by using the reset PC case button.

I primarily use 3D graphic programs such as Blender, Gimp & a game engine for 3D mobile game development, its not really a persistent regular problem in fact I could l... Read more

A:PC Monitor: Random white & blue green screen displays?

Hi devhead
Welcome to the forums. I think you are running out of memory. Why don't you set Windows to manage the Page / Swapfile on your SSD? I have 16gb of ram and have a 16GB page file on my two main systems. I can run out of memory if I run too many virtual machines and the PC starts writing to hard drives. The fact your machine goes to a white screen and locks up when you are pasting files into documents I think indicates the limited virtual memory is stalling the system. A page file on an SSD would be good use of the drive.
Tony.

I just bought an Acer AL2216W monitor for my Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop. Sometimes it works like it should , but after a while the screen turns white. It still gets a signal to turn on and off using the function keys, but it is white. If I remove the software and reinstall, it works for a while, but then turns white again after several hours. I have XP Pro, with Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7200 with ATI mobility Radeon X1400.

Hard to describe. I can see most things and use the laptop. However, the appearance is not right. Where I should see some color or gradations, I am seeing only black and white. Photos are rendered properly. In Thunderbird, although I have it set to show my text in green, I can only get black. Another example: In this forum, I can see the words "Thread Title" but I cannot see the box in which to type the title. I had to guess for this posting where to type the title. Hope I was right. I have reinstalled all my drivers and system file checker checks out OK. I even performed a Repair Install but still have the problem. When I log off, the screen is white with black letters where it tells me that some programs have to be shut down before the PC shuts down. The best way to understand the problem is to take control of my PC - but, obviously, that is not practical.

Do you have the same problem in safe mode (press F8 to get into it at boot)? Have you tried an external monitor to rule out the internal panel?

It could be a sign that the monitor is on its way out. What kind of monitor is it? LCD or CRT?

Firstly, apologies for the vague thread title, I couldn't think of how else to describe it

Right, when the monitor (rather old 16" Sharp LCD monitor) is showing the colour white (such as a Google search results page, GMail inbox etc.) I can hear a rather audible high pitched buzzing sound, no matter what brightness the screen is on. Any ideas as to why? I'm sure there is a scientific/electronic reason as to why, it's just I'm not sure what that reason is

A:Monitor makes a high pitched noise when showing white.

I have read that the condition can be caused by low quality capacitors.
And I understand the fix (workaround) is to lower the refresh rate as low as it will go.

Also could be the power inverter for the backlight (same reason: cheapness).
Some people say you can epoxy the edges of the inverter to fix this. Not advisable IMHO - just replace it.

And if the backlight is fluorescent, then you could be hearing that common buzz that fluorescent lights make when they are close to burning out.
