Error when opening C:\Program Files

Q: Error when opening C:\Program Files

I tried opening a program from C:\Program Files then this error popped up.

Maybe my registry cleaner has caused the problem http://www.regsofts.com/free_registry_repair/registry_repair.htm

A: Error when opening C:\Program Files

Do you have Google Toolbar or Yahoo! Toolbar installed?

EDIT: Also, for a temporary fix, don't view in Thumbnail or Slideshow view. It postpones it sometimes, but not always.

I've found that some people solved the problem by uninstalling seemingly random programs. I've found the most common issue is having 3rd party add-ons enabled in Internet Explorer, which is odd that it would affect Explorer.

Hi,

I am using Windows Service Pack 3 and everything was working fine, but today when I opened a DOS file second time, I got an error " Another program is currently using this file". And it continues for every DOS file. Even I tried to open them in command prompt, but even there I am getting the same error.

Can you please help me for this as I have to use DOS files many times a day.

Thanking you.

I downloaded the HJT Software and run a scan, so I got a log file which is attached herewith.
Hope anyone will guide me further.

A:Having an error " Another program is currently using this file" while opening DOS Files

Sorry, your post is not clear. When you say 'opened a Dos file' what do you mean? Do you mean 'RUN a Dos PROGRAM'? And why do you say 'second time' ?

I somehow got infected by the "Windows Antispyware Pro" virus. I used steps listed on another site to remove the virus by removing some files and changing a few things in the registry. This removed most of the malware but occasionally it pops back up again, just not as severe as originally.. BUT... I must have changed something in the registry because now most of my program and installation files with not start. The computer processes them for a few moments and then nothing happens. I have a program to remove the rest of the malware, but because I can't open it, I can't finish fixing this problem.

Help Please??

p.s. Tried running D.D.S. and it's telling me the sort utility is encountering errors. Also tried running GMER but this will not open because of the problem mentioned above.

THANKS

About a week ago my computer got a virus which resulted in the security center not opening. After running malware to get rid of the virus I ended up having to use system restore. I restored to a week or two prior and it seemed to fix the problem. However, I soon began noticing new problems. When I open a program, either from the desktop or start menu, a window would pop up asking how to open it. I had to select the program from program files to open just about anything. A problem I have been coming across is not all programs listed in my start menu are the same as the ones listed in program files. A lot of them occur in one but not the other, making it difficult to open much. I tried using Skype yesterday and it gave me a window saying it couldn't find the file and didn't give me the option of another way to open it. I tried redownloading Skype, and it couldn't find a program to open the download with. My computer is starting to run slower and act really confused. I was going to attempt another system restore but the program file is not showing up to open backup and restore. Please help!

Thanks,
Liz

A:program files not opening properly

Hello, system restore rarely cures a virus infection as it usually will get in the restore points also. You should start over with cleaning up the malware, then when clean , make a new restore point and discard any others, but for now, you will need to start the process of cleaning up the computer. Most common malware lately is Zero Access which has a rootkit involved. You will need one on one advice from a Malware removal Expert to actually get cleaned up .

Hi, I have been trying to figure this out for over 12 hours now. I'm exhausted.

I had a virus trojan and deleted a bunch of files that were slowing my computer down. Well, unfortunately now anything ending with "exe" won't open.

I get the windows cannot open this file (insert file name ending in exe) please choose the program to open it from a list or use the web to find it for you.

I can't open anything that needs to run, no programs, my antivirus software, nothing.

Please help. I also cannot system restore or use any xp tools to fix it due to those needing to run as well and they all end in "exe"

What runs "exe" files or programs?

thank you!

Hi,

When I open php file/s it opens a dialog asking for which program would you like to open it with, so I chose Notepad, and checked the default checkbox...it opens within notepad, but everytime I do access php file/s the default does'nt take effect it still displays the dialog, even though the default checkbox is checked? :S

Gets kind of annoying, especially since I have countless php files (in the middle of dev) and when editing I have to constantly go through that dialog process.

Did'nt have this problem on my Vista. :/

A:[SOLVED] When opening PHP files default program dialog?

strange that it doesn't set the default after you tell it to
i'd suggest taking a look at your registered file types (few dif ways to get to it) control panel > folder options > File Types (tab) > scroll down to the PHP extension & try changing it there maybe..
(click advanced tab once you select that extension too, make sure everything is set properly)

Hello,

I recently ran into an issue where this installation on Windows 7 Pro 32-bit is trying to open up all my programs in Word, they all have the MS word icon as well, so for instance, when I click on Nero, it will try to open it up in word and we get an error because it is not a word file. This is on all Program .exe files. There are no options to change the file association in the default programs in control panel. I have only seen a few fixes for this which involve the registry, I have checked these, however, all registry keys are correct. System restore fails as well, have tried multiple restore points to no avail. We have also ran norton, and malwarebytes on the system is it runs clean. I am not sure where to go from here. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello Wingsfan, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It sounds like your EXE file associations has been set wrong. You can download and merge the exe download in the tutorial below to restore all of the default associations and settings for the exe file extension.

We have a Windows XP (Service Pack 2) that sorts the files according to date (rather than name as usually), when the user is in the Open File dialogue of any program (Adobe Creative Suite products, Microsoft Office programs etc.). The user can re-sort the files by clicking the sorting buttons in the dialogue window, but doing so every time we open a file feels a bit boring.

In Windows Explorer the folders are sorted aplhabetically, so the explanation cannot be that it fetches the sorting priority from the settings of Windows Explorer.

Any ideas how to fix the problem?

Recently, I was invaded by tons of malaware and spyware. Nonetheless, I downloaded Spybot Search and Destroy, Ewido Security Suite, Ewido Malaware, Ad-aware, CwShredder and HijackThis! I got rid of much of the problem, but now I have noticed that my computer has slowed down tremendously.First, I continuously experience popups from ad.firstadsolution, they pop up 2-4 at a time, and happen approx. every five minutes.Second of course, my computer has drastically slowed down. or maybe a policy, .. start > run > type gpedit.msc and press enter.
expand User Configuration > Administrative Templates >System .. u'll find "Disable registry editing tools" .. if it's enabled, then it's active. u can change it to disabled.

Hi Mashu.Looked around a few minutes and it seems you're not alone with that problem. Some people have gotten the issue resolved using the Microsoft .NET Framework redistributal package rather then using the one on the software installation cd. They are different versions.Go to Add\Remove, uninstall the exisiting .NET Framework app then do the same with the Disc2Phone software. Reboot if\when prompted.Go to Microsoft's site, download and install the Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package here, then reinstall the Disc2phone software.

First off:

Im running WinXP SP2 with a Dual Pentium M 2Ghz processor and 2 Gigs of ram. Its normally a fairly fast machine, and it is. It runs Games like TF2 and the like very fast.

The problem has started recently in the past 4 days, 6 days after I had installed new RAM ( previously had 1 gig, now I have 2. During the first six days their was no problem )

Basically: Any attempt to Open or save a file using any program that uses Windows Explorer to open files ( pretty much all programs except for those that have their own Open/save browser like GIMP ) Is very slow when browsing around folders. For instance, in firefox ( althought the problem is not limited to firefox ) I want to open a flash file. Browsing to the flash folder will cause it to hang for a good minute or two. The browser hangs longer depending on how many files are in the folder that has been opened, and whatever program that is being used to open the file becomes unresponsive during the time it is frozen. Sometimes the program will crash altogether. The problem is not limited to one hard drive or one network drive.

CPU usage does not spike during the hangup, and stays at around 2~5%. Other programs running in the background ( if any ) do not become unresponsive.

The following fixes have been attempted thus far and none of them have helped.

1 ) Freeing disk space ( now 50% of C: is free )
2 ) Defragmenting ( Both C: and D: )
3 ) Checking to see if any broken network drives are mapped ( To m... Read more

Hello,

I hope all is well in your world.

I've been infested with Bad Image errors on EVERY program I open manually, or that opens during start up.

The familiar error reads, ""C:\Windows\system32\ajpjDhglj.DLL is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or software vendow for support."

[the "xxxxx".DLL varies with every program, too numerous to note, but the rest of the error is the same with everything I open; in the ajpjDhglj.DLL instance, the program is SendSpace]

I have Norton 360 running (although McAfee was the program running when the problem began; I've since uninstalled it), and I've used Norton's Eraser Tool and Bootable Recovery Tool, AVG's and Sophos' rootkit cleaners, and AVS' registry cleaner to no avail. I did a scan with PC Cleaner, but I did not register in order to fix the 2,000+ questionable items it found even after the AVS scan and fixes.

I have downloaded the TSG files as agreed.

Thanks in advance for any assistance with this plague. Everything else seems to be working fine (although I have no idea if these errors represent a vulnerability beyond Norton's reach).

A:Opening A Downloaded Program Get A Error Message

Hello and to BC

First and foremost about this, have you scanned your computer for Any sort of malware before / after doing this download as it may be infected, Just a thought

Secondly, what type of program are you trying to download, if its a simple program such as an AV , or a free game or something like that, from a trusted site, it should not be giving you an error such as that

if its an older exe file maybe it just won't work with your xp, Just a couple of thoughts to toss out there
Hope to hear from you soon

Hello and I hope someone can help. I looked through quite a few posts but I could not find an exact fit with my problem but I have tried many of the suggestions mentioned in postings that were close to my problem. First of all I am on a Dell Inspiron 600m using MS Windows XP Home Edition 2002 Service Pack 3. My problem occurs when I try opening up one particular program application (QSR NVivo). This is not a new software package and I never had a problem with it before. However the problem began right after I updated my Yahoo tool bar, ran its antispyware and removed what it found. I did check to see if any of what it found seemed related to any certain applications but nothing stood out as anything more than adware and one trojan. So after removing those issues I tried to open my NVivo software which resulted in the stop error: 0x0000008E (0x00000005, 0xF4c6c21D, 0xF17cc7Ec, 0x00000000). At the top of the screen but not in the area where it would identify any drivers it said "Try changing video adapters" (just thought that might be worth including) Anyways, this happens each time now. I did remove the yahoo updates in case that was an issue. Solutions I tried: - Tried the driver reset tool but it showed nothing wrong. - Tried a system restore but for some reason there were no restore points available. - Windows Memory Diagnostic. I downloaded the necessary files onto a bootable CD through my NERO software but the diagnostic never ran and only opened up a DOS ... Read more

Thanks to anyone who can help. I've searched for this topic and haven't found anything that worked for me. I posted this topic a couple days ago but just now it didn't show up; sorry if I've double-posted.

I'm trying to download itunes for the first time, but I get the error in the title when I try to run the itunes_setup.exe file. When I cancel, I get "The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:\Program Files\Apple Software Update. The installation cannot continue. Log on as administrator or contact your system administrator."

I checked and confirmed that I am the admin on my PC, and all accounts are set up with full access privileges to these folders. I also tried rebooting in safe mode and logging on as "Administrator" and running the .exe from a flash drive.

I think I had similar problems loading an XP Office Upgrade a few months ago; I finally just gave up. I have Spybot Search and Destroy; it says I'm clean, for whatever that's worth.

Please help! Thanks again.

Other files in C:\Program Files can be backed up.

Changing the rights didn't help. How can I make these files back-upable?

Hello, I've been struggling for half a year with this. It gives me the error when I try to run games like Shadow of Mordor, Hitman Absolution or GTA5. I have tried updating and installing the visual studio and other software with aio, even manually replacing the dlls (xinput and mfc100 ones). Still no progress. I arrived at this error after the game was asking me for a list of other dlls that I manually downloaded (picture)

Dependency gave me a diagnosis of the dll problem, I think, but I don't know what to do next. I appreciate any help :)

A:Error opening files

You are missing quite a lot of .dll files from this game, not from Windows.
I would uninstall the game, restart your computer and reinstall it.
If you feel that you are missing Windows .dll's. Go to Start/Search and type CMD, Right click the CMD results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Command Prompt type SFC /scannow and press enter. This will replace any missing system files.

Hi all, I have on booting up after the welcome screen, a black screen for approx 1 minute then all runs well.
Recent history is: using wiki how speed up your computer, also i tried switching on and off, timing the reboot several times in quick succcesion.

I am sure i followed all the instructions to the letter with wiki and have now reversed them to see if it cures the problem. Also did a default boot up to no avail. Tried a system scan for virus, many entries of "C opening error" occur during this. Also tried Spybot this showed no problems.

I would be a very happy person if someone can point me to a probable cause

I had this issue having hijack.controlpanelstyle Which blocks the admin from accessing any path that is able to remove the hijacker itself (including C) and shows up with a message like you don't own privileges of doing the action.
Most Pros would guess there is something wrong with the registry. (did you do anything including editing, deleting,..etc)

Hey everyone, I need a little help. This is what's going on. I use a program (used it before on another computer, so I know it works) to copy dvd files onto my computer. (DVDs that I own, just to make a back up when I go on vacation rather than taking the DVD with me, nothing illegal.) Both the computer I'm using now and the old one ran Windows XP. When I try and copy files with it lately, if they're longer than 3 minutes, I get the error message of "ActiveMovieWindow:explorer.exe - Application Error. The instruction at "0x027e321f" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "written"." It then proceeds to shut down the open folder and any others that may be open. They copy fine, this happens if I try and change their name or play them. Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this or how I could fix it? It's getting very frustrating. Thanks for reading, hope someone out there can help me.

I am sorry to report that we probably will not be able to assist you. If you are talking about commercially made DVDs, they usually have encryption to prevent copying or ripping the contents. Currently, breaking or circumventing that encryption is illegal in the USA. Since TSG is based in the USA, the owner does not allow assisting members on that topic.

Hey all,

I am a Helpdesk technician at my company and we have had multiple users report that they get an error when attempting to open ZIP files. These files are on our network file server. The error message received is "Windows cannot open the folder.
The Compressed (zipped) Folder is invalid". We have installed 7-zip on a couple of the users PC's for a temporary fix, but there are over 150 users in our network and that is alot of time to go to each PC and install that. So far we have heard
from about 15 that are having this issue. We are running Windows 7 64 bit. I have searched all over the web for a fix, and have come up with nothing. This issue appears to have started about a month ago....around 9/15/2015....maybe a microsoft update?
For now we are implementing 7-zip until we can get a Microsoft fix. Any ideas or fixes would be great! Thanks in advance.

We have noticed that if the user restarts their PC that the problem goes away for a spell, but returns unprompted. We are using Dell machines and HP Thin Clients...It is happening on both. We have checked the error logs and nothing egregious shows up.

A:Error opening ini files in notepad

Do you get the same message if you use "Open with".

Open notepad, drag and drop the .ini file and see if it will open.

If the file still won't open then it is a problem in the registry which can be fixed.

Good Morning

Recently we replaced one of our users machines with a brand new IBM Lenovo desktop. They are running Windows XP 32 bit SP3. Previously this user used Print Shop 6.0 to create fliers, anouncements, newsletters and the like for our company. Upon installing Print Shop on the new machine the program wouldn't load at all. I was finally able to get the program to start by giving the local user modify rights to folders C:\The Print Shop Products, C:\Program Files\Paint Shop Pro and giving full permissions to registry entry HKLM\Software\Broderbund Software.

The program seems to be working normally as long as the user is creating brand new projects. The problem is that she can't open the majority of projects she created before she received the new computer. Due to circumstances I won't get into, the user must use this particular program and this particular machine. Getting a newer version of Print Shop is, unfortunately, not an option. Switching to a different program is also not an option.

If anyone has run into the problem before any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi,

I'm having an issue with Windows XP, SP2...for the last month or so, whenever I try to open a picture file on my PC (.jpg, .bmp, etc.) I get the message "Windows cannot find (location of file/filename). Make sure you typed the name correctly, then try it again."

then I get a box which says "SmartHeap Library MEM_BAD_POINTER"

After which the PC freezes up and I have no choice but to reboot.

Occasionally I can get the file/files to open if I right click on the thumbnail/icon and open it in Corel PP or something, but if I left click on the file to open it right then and there, forget it. Crash.

These files DO exist on my PC, because the thumbnails show up when I open the folder, and I can copy them to my SD card, and so on. But strangely enough even when I copy new pics to the pc (onto my desktop) I am also having the same problem.

It doesn't seem to matter whether I set Windows Imaging/Picture Viewer or corel photo paint (or any other prog for that matter) as the default picture viewing program. If I left click on the file to open it I get the message I mentioned earlier.

I tried cleaning out the system caches, but it didn't help. Still having the problem. The file/files are there, I can see them in the folder, or on the desktop, view their properties and all, but no matter what program I try to open them with I still get the same message/freezeup...

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has come across this problem before and/or if anyone has a fix for it? When ever I try and open some JPEGs from email in Outlook 2010 if comes up with this...

The file cannot be previewed because of an error with the following previewer:

Microsoft Outlook image previewer

To open this file in its own program, double click it.

.... I try and open up the file in Windows Photo Viewer and it says;

Windows Photo Viewer can't open this picture because either Photo Viewer doesn't support this file format, or you don't have the latest updates to Photo Viewer.

.... This only happens with some pictures, others are fine, and they're the same format, JPEG. I've tried sending a sample through from hotmail to Outlook and these seem to work fine, its just from other sources that it seems to be temperamental.

I've done a system restore and uninstalled any programs I think maybe conflicting with it, although there wasn't anything that stood out. This problem wasn't there before, it must of appeared within the last couple of weeks but unsure of exact date as some pictures open and some don't.

There doesn't seem to be any updates for the photo viewer or Outlook!?

Any ideas much appreciated?

That is I have a program installed under "C:\Program Files\MyProgram\"
And my program will generate a log file if the program has some issues/errors with the folder name "PCLog" under "MyProgram" folder.
The full path will be "C:\Program Files\MyProgram\PCLog\"

However, when the program hit errors, it generate the file but I can't find the folder under "MyProgram" folder. Something wrong?

My program has a feature to browse excel file. When I use this program to browse under "C:\Program Files\MyProgram\", I can see this "PCLog" folder with an Lock icon on it.

Any idea?

A:Folders in C Program Files got error

Hello Scsfdev,

Welcome to Seven Forums.

I take it you cannot open this folder. In 7 the programs folder is a protected area. You need admin rights to change anything there and sometimes that's not enough. Try this: Take Ownership Shortcut.

You may have to also give yourself full rights. There is a link to how to do that in the 'Tip' box at the bottom of the tutorial.

Hope this helps.

My HP Pavilion a365c has the MS XP operating system. I get a RUNDLL error message that follows: "Error Loading C:\Program Files\Common Files\Paretologic\UUS2\UUSdll This specified module could not be found."
Generally, I get this error when the computer has been sitting idle with a program like MS Word open and when it should be going into hybernation. Can't seem to find a solution in the archive files.

Thanks,

WildTangent seems to be a company that specializes in online games. Your error says that there is a problem loading the program Wildtangent, this means an easy way to try and fix this is uninstalling it or reinstalling it.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) with AVG Free and Malwarebytes installed.

In the last few days I have been receiving the error "Windows cannot find 'C:\program files (x86)\......" when trying to run Malwarebytes. I also see the error when trying to activate "resident shield" on AVG, trying to access system protection & trying to access system restore.

I have attempted to run Chameleon for Malwarebytes but for all 12 buttons all it does is show a window with "Please Wait.." and when that disappears the Chameleon# button switches to a tick and tested (this happens for all 12 Chameleon # buttons).

I have tried uninstalling Malwarebytes and re-installing but for both stages I get the same error message as stated above.

I have tried installing SUPERantispyware but when I attempt to run the installer file I get the same error message.

I have tried renaming the .exe file for Malwarebytes to things like "explorer" and "winlogon" and I have tried changing the file extension from .exe to .com as advised in the Malwarebytes error resolution instructions but neither change allowed me to run the software.

I have tried installing both malwarebytes and SUPERantispyware on a flash drive on a separate PC then running them on the PC with the error from the flash drive. In the case of Malwarebytes the same error is returned when trying to open the software, in the case of SUPERantispyware the programme will run from the flash drive... Read more

Hello,

It sounds like AVG may have had a false positive alarm and accidentally detected a threat in one of the files used by the ThinkPad Power Manager Background Monitor and Tray Battery Gauge.  I am not familiar with AVG's software, but if it has some kind of "quarantine" feature, you may be able to restore the file from the quarantine folder.

Failing that, you can download and re-install the driver from the http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-w-series-laptops/thinkpad-w53... page on Lenovo's support site.

You may wish to follow up with AVG support to confirm if this was a false positive and assistance in restoring the file.

Note: Please note that Antivir Webguard uses ASK Toolbar as part of its web security. If you remove ASK by using Adwcleaner, Antivir Webguard will no longer work properly. Therefore, if you use this program please use the instructions below to access the options screen where you should enable/DisableAskDetections before using AdwCleaner.

Using AdwCleaner is very simple. Simply download the program and run it.  You will then be presented with a screen that contains a Search and Delete button.  The Search button will cause AdwCleaner to search your computer for unwanted programs and then display a log showing the various files, folders, and registry entries used by these programs.

To delete these unwanted programs simply click on the Delete button, which will cause AdwCleaner to reboot your computer and remove the files and registry entries associated with the various adware that you are removing.  On reboot, AdwCleaner will display a log showing the files, folders, and registry entries that were removed.

My computers are both running Win 7 64-bit. I am thoroughly confused when it comes to placing programs that I download into their proper folders: That is, program files (x86) vs program files. I have read stuff on this, but still confused. for the most part, even when a dl'd program suggests being installed into PF, I, for whatever reason, place it into PF (x86). Although I have read that placing the program into the wrong folder may cause the program not to work properly, so far I have not had this problem...nor any other problems that I am aware of. Could someone please set me straight on this issue?

A:Program Files or Program Files (x86)-Where to place downloaded program

I let the installer put it where it is supposed to.

If I trust the software I trust they know best where it should be installed/placed.

If I can't trust the software maker why am I downloading/installing their program?

A while ago I had some problems with virus/malware on my computer (redirect virus and fake anti virus program). I think I removed them but have still have been having some issues. For starters my start menu and all programs were suddenly empty, I managed to get the program files back but most of the sub files remain empty. I attempted to run unhide.exe some time ago with no luck. Also, on start up my notepad pops up with '[.ShellClassInfo] [email protected]%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21787dRe' which I've also attempted to fix but have been unable to.

I'm running windows vista home premium 32bit and currently am using free versions of AVG and Kaspersky, neither of which are detecting any issues at the moment.

Any help would be great, thank you

Mcafee recently told me it had stopped a trojan, but it couldn't delete it until a restart. I clicked "ok" and then another trojan popped up as being stopped. Then another. I wish I wrote down the names, but I didn't and now I can't find them in any kind of Mcafee log. What I do have, however, are 2 files that seem suspicious.I went to Add/Remove New Programs and found a program called "Antiviirus.exe". I didn't know what it was so I tried to uninstall it but couldn't. I did a search and found it in my (C:\Program Files) directory. I went to Program Files, but Windows Explorer immediately encountered a problem and shut down. It only shuts down in this one particular directory. Another suspicious file there is "Instaler.exe." ------------------------------------Antiviirus.exeinstaler.exeI did a quick search for these files and found that they are sometimes variants of:Trojan.DropperTrojan.GorhaxTrojan-Downloader.Win32.Agent.keu-------------------------------------I went into the command prompt and deleted both, but the problem still exists - even after several restarts and system scans. Since I still can't open the Program Files folder, I wonder what is still infecting my computer and what it is doing in the background. Hi, I have Windows Vista Ultimate x64, and it came with 2 set of program files: program files, and program files x86. Since my hard drive is only 100 gigs, I was wondering if I could delete the normal program files and keep the x86 ones, or would that cause problems?

A:Deleting program files and keeping program files x86?

would that cause problems?

More than you know. You delete that and you delete any and all 64 bit programs, and probably also have to re-install Vista. That and if the Program Files folder on mine is any indication (just under 1 GB), then you're not going to save a whole lot of space anyway.

Since my hard drive is only 100 gigs

Better idea that trying to bugger Windows up, get a bigger hard drive.

Hi,
I have a program installed under "C:\Program Files (x86)\CompanyName\SWName".
When the program runs it's supposed to copy some files, say
FROM
"C:\Program Files (x86)\CompanyName\SWName\Drivers\*.abc
TO
"C:\Program Files (x86)\CompanyName\SWName\Drivers\*.xyz

The program works on every machine it's been installed on, except for one (customer's) Win 7 64-bit machine. On that machine, nothing happens.

It's noteworthy that on that same machine an "insufficient access privileges" (or some such) message pops-up when an administrator trys to copy a folder to "C:\Program Files (x86)\CompanyName\NewName".

Any guesses as to why this particular Win7 machine is being so picky? What should I have the installer do so that the application will be able to copy/rename its own files?

Thanks/Cheers.

A:Allow installed program to rename files under Program Files (x86)

Try right clicking on the program installer and select Run as Administrator. See if that allows it to complete.

Hi have have a new PC running Win7 Home Premium 64bit. I have 2 drives:

1 x 120GB SSD (running the OS) (C Drive)
1 x 1TB HDD (D Drive)

The SSD is running the OS and a couple of main programs which i use quite often (ie. Office 2010, Antivirus, etc).

The HDD i want to use to install and run Games, iTunes, etc...

My question is, if by default installing programmes want to install to C:\Program Files or Program Files (x86). How to i make them install to D:\ and what file structure should i use to make sure the 64bit and 32bit are in the right file and run as they should at the correct bit version??

Is it just a case of creating Program Files & Program Files (x86) folders on D and navigating to these folders on install?

Thanks

A:Program Files (x86) & Program Files Installed On Another Drive

you could try mounting the the hdd partition to your program files folder in your SSD.

I have never done this before and cannot say it will work properly. but its an idea.

Mount Drives or Partitions as a Folder

P.S. I would definitely backup your program files before trying that.

Forum,

I do not work much with windows, but I do a lot of work in different distros of bsd and linux.

What I want to do is 'ln -sf c:\program files g:\program files' that is how I would symbolic link the folder in linux, but I can not figure out how to do this in windows.

I need this done so after the folder is moved to a new drive/partition all the Start Menu links still work, and also the short cuts.

Thanks,

My wife has Win7 home premium x64 on her laptop and is using Word 2007. The problem she is having is she will open a word file, change it up, save it, then re-open it later and its the old file not the new one. Where as I can open the edited file on my desktop running the same OS but with Word 2010 and the file that opens for me is the newest version. Anyone have ANY idea why this is happening? I would really like to resolve this issue.

A:worrd 2007 only opening old files, not open revised files

that's just bizarre. You're saying that she will make change to a document, then try to open it, and changes are gone on HER laptop , but you open the very same document from another computer with 2010, you can see it? WTF??

Questions:

1) Does this happen on a fresh blank doc file?

I decided to do a clean install and before reinstalling the operating system I used the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to save my files to a network drive. The file is there and appears to be saved properly....the file name is USMT2.UNC....there are 2 documents w/n called: IMG00001 and status. When I use the wizard to access the files again it gives me this error message: "The location you specified does not contain stored information. Please type a valid folder path into the edit box." How do I recover my files?

A:Files & Settings Transfer Wizard Is Opening My Saved Files

I'm not real familiar with this feature, but I think that you've got to use the FAST wizard to restore the files to your system. Go to Start...All Programs...Accessories...System Tools...Files and Settings Transfer Wizard and launch the dialog.

Ok so this started a week or 2 ago, i was at a website and caught some nasty viruses c.exe, h.exe, TDSS, windows antivirus pro, and many many more, it even blocked my use of malwarebytes/combofix, then i found out i had to change their names inn order to be able to use them, but i did this too late and many of my important files got deleted or replaced with viruses, even after i fixed some of the problems, my pc starts spiking and making very loud noises when i play big games, like at times it would be at 90% cpu and other times to 100%, 2% to 20% back and fourth, i also get many other errors when i play games with wmiprvse.exe and that had never happen to me EVER until i caught so many viruses, and now i even have processes running that i've never seen before. But my main problem right now is when i try to open a .exe file i would get this pop up whenever i left click on it:http://i25.tinypic.com/jtpd1t.jpgThank you for everyones help.PS:If i want to delete everything on my pc, do i need to have the windows xp cd in order to do so, i lost mine, but i still got my code sticker on top of my pc.
