I have: No sound, no ethernet (wont accept drivers), missing startup files...etc

Q: I have: No sound, no ethernet (wont accept drivers), missing startup files...etc

hello, if anyone can help me out, it would be fantastic.

here's the rundown of what's going on with my computer:
I installed these programs that create a virtual drive on your computer (install drivers and all) so that you can burn cds to the image drives. There were three in all, one was called "noteburner" and another called "sharedrm.." the other i dont remember at all but its icon was an ipod looking thing i think.
i uninstalled these programs and restarted my computer
upon restarting computer, the loading of windows lagged for a long time and then eventually the comp would just restart.
i also started getting the blue screen of death (fatal error) here and there.
after some working around with the computer i managed to get it to boot up again to find that i no longer had sound and my ethernet adapter was not working. Also, the drivers for those virtual drive programs were still in my device manager and in the registry.. i manually deleted all of them and everything from my registry with their names. (i contacted their techservs - and they had no idea)
also, it createed a driver in the network adapters tab called "direct parallel" which i deleted raspti.sys and ptlink.sys (it's two driverfiles) manually - everytime i tried to uninstall normally, there was a message that said "cannot unistall, this device may be needed for the computer to boot" - somewhere in the mess of things i ended up reinstalling service pack 2 as i saw someone say to do that on a forum - it did nothing.

additionally - the drivers for my audigy 2 platinum oem sound card and my marvell yukon gigabit ethernet adapter were installed but not working, so i uninstalled them.. restarted my computer... and now when ethernet cable is plugged in, it no longer has the blinking lights where the cable connects tot he computer as it had been doing BUT now the computer identifies it as new ethernet controller hardware. i have tried a few different drivers but none will install (it just passes them and says it can't find the proper dirvers to install).
-to add, i plugged in a usb wireless adapter, it installed the drivers fine and finds wireless networks, but when i try to connect (to my wireless network which i know i can connect to cause im using it on my laptop right now) it stays on "acquiring network address" forever. when trying to repair connections it says it can't renew my ip. When trying to renew the ip throuh ipconfig in the command promp i get the message "the RPC server is unavailable"

i also thought that it was an issue with my IRQ slots being doubled up - sound and ethernet were on the same slot.. but i fixed that by uninstalling the "direct parallel" driver and unreserving some of the slots through my motherboard's bios.

starting windows hangs on desktop background for a while before loading desktop icons/toolbars/startup programs. none of my start programs, such as antivirus, sound utilites, firewall load at start.. the only things that load on their own are AIM, and "found new hardware utility"

so current status = computer will start up but, no sound, no ethernet, missing most of applications at start up, when i run a file in winamp that requires sound it says "bad directsound driver, please install proper drivers...." in itunes it just will not play at all, and system restore gives me this message when i try it: "system restore is not able to protect your computer...."
any help would be awesome.

Try re-installing windows from your Installation CD but instead of doing an Install (after The F8 agreement prompt) you'll select to repair the installation that it finds on your Hard Drive.
Have your Reg Key handy since it will want this too. It will Re-install the hardware drivers without affecting your installed software or the registries

Hi. I recently had to reformat and reinstall windows xp pro after a virus went in and destroyed the system files. I might just add that it also stopped the internet from working (adapter appeared unitalled even though it was). I have reinstalled xp but it is missing many of its important drivers such as the etherent, sound and display drivers.

Firstly I tried just downloading the internet driver for my Dell optiplex GX270 and then installing them but that still doesn't make a difference as the computer does not identify them. Everything was working fine before all of this so i though that the windows cd would replace some of these drivers but it appears not..... The network drivers are the most important so i can download the rest and get xp updated.

I do not have the driver disks for this computer as they were not provided by the seller (Ebay) but it is an authetic Dell computer.

I am using an agp graphics card and ethernet is built into the motherboard
I used Belarc Advisor to scan the computer and here are the results:

Hope you can help

Hello,

My friend had a little problem with his computer which was causing bluescreen. I thought the easiest way to get rid of problems was to reinstall Windows. I reinstalled windows to another partition so the data wouldn't be lost.

Now for the problem: I cannot find any suitable drivers for mainboard-built-in ethernet nor the built in soundcard. The computer is brandless and there is absolutely no recovery discs etc. So now internet and sound do not work at all.

Since I cannot connect myself to the internet using that computer, can I somehow take the existing drivers from the old broken system's system32 folder and add them to the new installation?

If it is possible, Is there any program to do that for me = find the old drivers so I could know the exact location and install them to the new system's drivers?

Thank You in advance...old brandless computers are just pain.

Hello,
I recently reinstalled windows on my computer due to a series of crashed and the win32 virus, i used my factiry CD.
I use the Windows XP Media Center Edition, my machine is an eMachines W3507
At the begginning, i had the all famous NTLDR is compressed message, so i could't go anywhere from there, so i switched my hard drive from class selective to slave, and only then was i able to reinstall windows.
It was all going well until i tried to go on the internet, i said that my ethernet controller drivers were missing, and so were the drivers for my pci modem, so after 2 weeks of downloading and installing the incorrect drivers for my ethernet controller, i gave up and now i find myself typing this message.
I have lost all hope on the fools at eMachines customer service, because they just tell me to call some guy in India, and he tells me to give him my credit card number, because i never put my coomputer on a waranty.

Does anybody know a website where i can download these drivers, or someone who can help me?
Any help would be gratefully received
thanks in advance
Alex

Here is the official Emachine support page for your model

http://www.emachines.com/support/product_support.html?cat=Desktops&subcat=W Series&model=W3507

You can easily see the downloads for specific hardware parts....

Network
Description Realtek RTL8139/810x Network Driver
File Type Original Driver

But, the driver is only for Vista it says. Very common Ethernet controller, odd that XP can't install it natively.
Try: http://download.cnet.com/Realtek-RTL8139-810x-Family-Fast-Ethernet-NIC/3000-2112_4-63908.html

Here's a Gateway one> http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDo...x-Network-Driver-21221026-Download-61428.html

Click on "External Mirror 1" it took a couple tries.

Or try this one>>>> http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDo...-RTL8139C-plus-Serie-5649-Download-17566.html

Or here>>>>>> http://www.soft32.com/Download/Free/Realtek_RTL8139810x_Family_Fast_Ethernet_NIC/4-185728-1.html

Use the "External Mirror" links or you will get something like Driver Agent/Detective

MSI K9N6PGM2-V mobo. Upgraded from XP PRO 32 bit to Win 7 64 bit. Everything else works fine except the ethernet controller cannot find drivers. I have tried multiple times to use the "Live Update" software. It will not execute. Circle spins then disappears. Running on wireless right now, but would prefer to be wired. Any ideas?
I have downloaded drivers direct from MSI website, they appear to install correctly, but the ethernet controller still has the yellow splat in the device manager. Go to Networking and the network card does not appear at all.

Hi,
There are at least two different network cards used on that motherboard, to check the one you have please post the Device ID...
Open Device Manager (Start > Run > devmgmt.msc)
right click the Network Card
click Properties > Tab Details > On the Property box select Hardware Ids
Copy & Paste the values on the box to your Reply

Hi, well I had to reinstall the OS on my comp and after reboot when I tried to setup my internet/dsl connection it is telling me that the drivers for the PCI Ethernet Adapter are missing. I'd like to know if I have to find new drivers for this or if I can just reinstall the program.
thanks.

You're likely missing many drivers if you reinstalled Windows. If its for the Dell then you can download them from their site if you do not have the Dell Resource CD's.

Hi There

I am having an issue with my computer. I went on vacation about a week ago, shut down my computer, came back, my computer was running(I can only assume family had been using it) and it could not access internet.

I was using a DSL modem with a USB connection.

I moved, am trying to set up at new house with a cable modem.

The problem appears to be missing drivers for ethernet controller and "USB Cable Modem",

I am running Windows XP Pro on a custom built machine

Mother Board is

GIGABYTE GA-P31-S3G LGA 775

I have downloaded/installed chpset drivers from mfg website and they do not fix the problem.

I have tried to install USB Drivers for Cable Modem and it requests that I install USB Drivers first

I am using Other USB Devices so I assume that my USB drivers are intact, and this is simply a networking driver issue.

I have tried uninstalling the hardware from the system and attempting to let windows reinstall it without success

Any suggestions? Could this be virus related?

thanks

My Puter was acting up and full of clutter. Took nearly 2 min. to start up. Didn't know what half the junk was so I simply backed it up on a thumb drive and re-installed Windows 7 home professional 64 with the disk I got with the Puter. Couldn't access the internet afterwords. Ethernet controller Driver and network drivers were not there!  I have downloaded them from HP website onto the thumb drive and want to try to re-install home professional again. (I had to install Win 8 because that's the only other disk that came with the PC. It did get me on the internet though.) After I run the install disk again, will I be able to add the drivers off of the thumb drive?

For some reason the Ethernet controller drivers decided to complain earlier today, for the first time with an irritating yellow exclamation mark sign, I was wondering if the nice people at TechSupport could direct me to the drivers I need, I went into System Information and on to the adapter, it says "WAN Miniport (SSTP)". I've been trying a plethora of things, like installing new chipsets, but instead I was landed with Easytune, which isn't all bad. I guess.
Specs:
Gigabyte motherboard
AMD- Quad core processor.
Hope that helps.

In Device Manager, right-click the device with the "irritating yellow exclamation mark sign" and select Disable.

Now restart your computer (properly) and see if Windows can get it re-installed correctly when it boots back up.

So the ethernet cable was working until I brought it home from the computer repair shop after they replaced my keyboard.  I brought it home, turned it on and tried to plug in my ethernet cable but all I could see is the wireless connection so I did some digging and tried to reset my computer but that didn't work.  Downloading the driver gives me an error "The Realtek Network Controller was not found. If deep sleep is enabled Please Plug the Cable."  I've reset the bios, tried leaving it off for an hour but nothing works.  Any suggestions on how to fix it is greatly appreciated because I hate how slow wifi can be sometimes.

You're very welcome. Sorry that didn't work. Unfortunately, you cannot replace the component without replacing the entire motherboard. What I recommend is that you purchase an external usb to rj-45 10/100/100 (gigabit) ethernet adapter and that should take care of the problem for you. Here's a list to choose from.  I don't have any recommendations, so pick the one with the most/best reviews. https://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&page=1&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Ausb%20to%20rj45%20ethernet%20adapter

I was having trouble with my IBM Thinkpad T41 2373 so I factory reset it and set everything up. When it came to connecting to the internet I found that in device manager I was missing in my "Other Devices" section my Ethernet, Multimedia Audio, Network and Video Controller drivers as well as my PCI Modem driver. I tried and tried to find information about what I'd need and looked around trying various driver software I found but none worked. I'm currently running Win XP Pro 2002 Service Pack 3. If anyone knows what drivers I need and more importantly where I can get them please let me know. If you need more information to help me just ask and I'll try my best to get that info. Reinstalled Windows XP because of a bad virus. (Had done same a few months ago w/no problems.) Now missing ethernet driver and 4 others. Most important is the ethernet....because I cannot go on line to download anything. Found the right driver/controller for my Gateway 700GR desktop (about 5 years old -- and recovery disks no longer work). Contacted Gateway via email -- and there best advice was to go to their support area and download the driver, even after I reminded them I could not go on line.

There are 5 yellow question marks over each driver in the device manager.

I've tried to download the Marvell Yukon driver to my laptop -- and tried to download it directly to a CD. Doesn't seem to work.

First, I do not have a flash drive and am not sure it would work on my desktop anyway.

Is there a way that I am missing that would allow me to download the driver to my laptop, then disk, or whatever? Am pulling out my hair.

Thanks.

A:[SOLVED] Missing ethernet device and other drivers

What is keeping you from burning the drivers to a cd?

Go to the gateway support site and download the drivers and copy to a flash drive ( CD is ok too) . . double click the file to install them on the gateway.

Be sure to install the chipset drivers first . . the others will probably not install without that

Hi there

I recently did a clean re-install of Windows 7 but forgot to backup the drivers.

I did a Google search of the hardware ID's that I'm missing, but I'm taken to a rather shady Russian website.

The physical hardware itself is TP-LINK 300Mbps Advanced Wireless N PCI Adapter.

From the Ethernet Controller, I'm missing:
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_E0001458&REV_06
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_E0001458
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&CC_020000
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&CC_0200

From Network Controller, I'm missing:
PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0023&SUBSYS_3071168C&REV_01
PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0023&SUBSYS_3071168C
PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0023&CC_028000
PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0023&CC_0280

Please help!

EDIT:
I've managed to get the Ethernet controller driver installed, but I am still looking for the Network Controller. I found out that it's coming from Atheros, I must've tried about a zillion different drivers but none of them are working. It's hard to navigate through the Atheros website since it is in Czech.

I got a computer from X-Technology (www.xtechnology.com) via half.com about two years ago. Long story-short, I don't have the Recovery CD for my system, my hard drive died on Thursday, got a used one from a friend that I installed, installed Windows 2000 Pro (had Win98SE prior to this) and now some of the drivers aren't working after the initial install.
I checked the "Hardware Wizard" as it is on Win2k and it listed four items with the question mark/exclamation mark icons:
Multimedia Audio Controller
PCI Device
Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
Ethernet Controller
They all have the same message that goes with them: Drivers for this Device are not Installed (Code 28)
I know what the Ethernet Controller is, and the Video Controller doesn't need to be fixed since I'm running the video through my GeForce2 which I already installed drivers for and got to work. The other two I'm not sure about, but the only other things not working currently are my sound and dial-up modem. I'm pretty sure if I could find the right drivers for these it would fix the problem, but I can't seem to figure out which drivers I need. All the things that aren't working are on-board components (Modem, sound, ethernet). Here's all the info I can find at this point. Please let me know if there's something else I can do or look up to provide additional information.

A:i need the media sound and the ethernet drivers !

Before you upgraded to windows 7 you should of looked to see if theres even windows 7 drivers for that computer. if there isnt its not going to be easy finding them.to find out the brand name and model it should be on the computer somewhere on a laptop or desktop. on a laptop the name should be on the lid such as dell etc then you open it up and it should say for example vostro 1700.on a desktop on the front it should give the brand name such as dell, hp, compaq, etc.to get the correct drivers needed you then go to the website and look under support drivers and downloads for that brand and then the model number.

A:Error code 28 on Ethernet controller (Missing Drivers)

Hi sups9,

It is likely that the drivers for the 'Ethernet Card' installed in the computer are not installed. Please Check its status in 'Device Manager': Click 'Start' > Type 'devmgmt.msc' (without quotations) in the 'Search Box' > Tap 'Enter' (Device Manager appears) > Locate and Expand 'Network Adapters' > Check if a 'question mark/exclamation mark' is observed besides any 'network device' (You may also look through the whole list to see if any other device is listed with such a mark, under 'Other Devices')

If yes, right click the 'Device' > Click 'Properties' > Click 'Details' tab > Select 'Hardware ID' from the 'Property Drop Down' > Capture and share 'Hardware ID details'.

Do reply with the findings; would be glad to assist.

Due to hideous misfortune I had to do a clean install of my personal copy of Windows Vista and remove the stock Windows XP from my netbook.

Many drivers were added my Microsoft during Vista installation but I have no adapter drivers for either wireless or ethernet controllers. Under device manager I have no category for Network Adapters but instead those two controllers are listed under "Other Devices".

Under HP downloads I found the driver for Qualcomm Mobile Broadband Drivers - Gobi1000 when I went through the process of stating my product ID and OS (Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit). I downloaded it onto my pc, saved it to the flash drive I had to use earlier as a bootable drive to install Vista (knew the lack of native cd/dvd drive would eventually haunt me) and then moved the flash drive to the netbook to run install.

After running the setup a blank 'ms-dos' window popped up, stayed blank and then disappeared. There was no confirmation of success of failure in regards to installation of the driver. But under Device Manager they are still listed under other devices and I am unable to do anything with them.

I downloaded, transported and ran the setups for HP help and support as well as the Wireless Assistant. Both run fine on the Mini. The wireless assistant simply states that Windows has no controllers assigned to find connections to maintain.

I was curious as to whether or not there was something I was missing, the driver was the inco... Read more

I'm starting to lose my mind.

I just reinstalled 64 bit Vista on my desktop Dell Studio XPS 435 because I was unable to connect to the internet via my network adapter and ethernet controller (both of which said I had no driver installed suddenly and refused to accept the downloaded driver from the resource CD or Dell's website).

After formatting the hard drive and freshly reinstalling Vista, I now have MORE problems. In addition to showing NO network adapter at all (in Device Manager) it now shows that I am lacking drivers for my SM Bus controller, several System Interrupt controllers, the ethernet controller (still), and now it is also not recognizing my video card (stock P.O.S. ATI card Dell through in there). Before reinstalling Vista I tried everything from resetting my IP address to a full System Restore (two of them actually). Nothing seems to be working, it is starting to drive me crazy.

I've read that it could be the chipset drivers that I need to download and install, but I haven't tried it yet because I am currently at work and don't know the info I need to perform such a download.

I've never had a problem like this that I couldn't solve before. Any help would be so very greatly appreciated.

Adam

I did a windows 7 clean install on my HP Mini 210 4051 nr as part of creating a dual boot with Ubuntu. In Linux the internet works fine, but in Windows 7 it does not. In the device manager I see yellow flags over the ethernet and network controllers. Code 28 (My model does have an ethernet port).

Because the machine cannot connect, I downloaded all the related drivers (everything from the network tab) from the HP website for my model with another computer and then put them all in a folder on the Mini's desktop via USB. When I try to install the drivers through the device manager, and direct it to that folder, it says it finds nothing usable.

Here are the IDs

Ethernet Controller
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8136&SUBSYS_338D103C&REV_05

Network Controller
PCI\VEN_1814&DEV_5390&SUBSYS_163610C&REV_00

Any suggestions will be appreciated!

I recently acquired a Pavilion Slimline (s5503w) desktop PC. For whatever reason the hard drive was blanked out when I received it and upon installing Windows 7 64-bit (Ultimate Ed) I've had quite some time locating the proper drivers. Attempting to use the recommended drivers from HP's website resulted in a 9996 error, you don't meet the requirements. Proper recommended installer for that version of windows, but no luck. I've also tried installing the Ethernet and Audio drivers recommended by Nividia's website. A 15.49 package, but though it recognizes the video card it doesn't notice the onboard Ethernet or Audio. Neither of these devices is listed in device manager as far as I can tell either. No typical yellow exclamation mark stating that the driver is missing.

Any help or a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Problem is that after the computer is shut down some drivers are lost and on next powerup vista installs them again, some of the drivers are, sound, pci-bridge or summit? the internal usb reader (this was added after this problem), it's just annoying, if i leave my external hard drive plugged in to my desktop or laptop it doesn't reinstal the driver next startup, so why does it do this with parts? built into my sons pc? Also i got him a wireless keyboard and mouse bundle at staples for ?15 - Labtec? alright. I got a problem that just won't resolve. simple enough, I got a virus, lost all sound drivers.
No microphone.
no speakers (this includes the ones inside the system itself).
all sound types are completely unreadable to windows and windows media player.

according to the information, the mother board is an Alienware® Intel® 945PM + ICH7 Chipset, and the sound card itself: Intel® 7.1 High-Definition Audio.

and I keep recieving notification about "new hardware" which is the actual PCI card, but it can not find the driver information.

hoping that someone can help me with this soon.

According to http://www.pcidatabase.com this should be the driver that you need (it's a direct download, so when you click on the link it'll ask to download the file to your system). Yesterday i re-installed XP Home SP2 from the disk and now i have Windows XP with missing drivers

The missing drivers are:

- Ethernet controller
- PCI communications thingy

And on computer startup i have no programs except the defaults, and a very old version of windows media player, on startup i also have a weird screen that is titled as 'OEM reset' with an option to shutdown, do an audit boot and build an RIS deployment image.. why have i got that?

I need to get the Ethernet controller asap and i cannot connect to the internet through my PC.

The PC is an old eMachines e4024, 2.9ghz intel pentium 4 with 512mb ram.

eMachines support is rubbish, they hardly give anything, that's why im posting here..
My ethernet controller is a Intel pro 10/100, thats as far as i have got to finding out what the controller is, everest did not tell me anything about an ethernet controller.. but i know it is manufactered by Intel, on intel's website they have a list of driver downloads for many ethernet controllers but im posting here cause i cant find my model.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi..

I got a new monitor today, before I used a VGA monitor, but finally I have a monitor that's HDMI compatible. It has a sound jack, I thought I should mention.

But really when I started up my computer, I first noticed my sound icon was X'd out, and when I click it, it takes me directly to the useless problem detector. Right clicking shows me that no playback or recording devices are installed, for some reason.

I tried mostly disabling reenabling and uninstalling then restarting all three of my sound drivers, but I think I'm entirely missing some playback or recording drivers that my laptop does have. I have no idea what happened.

If I plug my headphones in or anything (My computer appears to have to audio output green jacks, but nothing happens. When I plug my headphones in. Does EVERYONE have a audio input output, recording category in device manager that isn't sound, video, and game controllers?

I also tried MSconfig, nothing is unchecked or anything. It really just seems that I'm missing drivers...?
Is there a way I can try to see which ones I need to download? I can't figure out how to do that.

Oh and I just upgraded to windows 8.1.

I attached a picture of my device manager screen. (It didn't attach, sorry. I just explain it below)

A:Strange missing sound drivers?

Sorry I don't think the image attached for some reason.
But basically under sound video and game controllers I just have Coxenant Smartaudio HD, Intel® Display audio, and NVIDIA High Definiton Audio, and nothing else.

Running Windows 7, 64-bit

How problem came about: The other day i restarted my computer. during the blue "Shutting Down..." screen, my computer said it was installing Windows Updates, "Installing 1 of 99... Do not power off". I pulled the laptop onto my lap and out comes the power plug! (My comp's batteries are shot and relies on the power cord). Well i shut down my computer during the screen that said "installing updates, do not shut down." Since then, audio hasn't worked.

When the computer booted up again, the sound didn't work. So I tried letting windows updates finish updating which it did successfully. But my sound drivers, webcam drivers, and modem drivers don't work and wont install. (Right now i just want to fix my sound).

The bottom right speaker has an X on it (usually the muted icon), and when i click on it, it asks to reinstall the High def audio device driver:

When I tell it to reinstall the driver, it returns with a screen that says it couldn't fix the issue and that "High Definition Audio Device has a driver problem."

NO SOUND, Audio Drivers Missing or Corrupt

Here is my tale and trail of woe. I'm stuck and need some direction.

I am running XP Home, SP2 on an IBM ThinkCenter A50p desktop, Type 8194, Model E6U.

All five of the device drivers under my Device Manager "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" category show yellow encased exclamation marks, but I'm only concerned about the audio ones for the moment since I've had no sound for a couple of weeks. (Don't ask.)

One of two audio drivers is listed under the above referenced category as a "Legacy Audio Driver" and the other is a "Multimedia Audio Controller."

(The three remaining ones are Legacy Video Capture Devices, Media Control Devices and Video Codecs if you are interested.)

The properties tab of each driver describe these conditions:
1. LEGACY~"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"
2. MULTIMEDIA~"The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28). To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver."

The Microsoft Help and Support Troubleshooting lead advises me to uninstall and reinstall the LEGACY driver but following the instructions does not reflect the process described by the instructions. So I abandoned this route.

My PC Doctor (Lennovo provided) says that the device driver for my MULTIMEDIA AUDIO CONTROLLER sound card "is not installed or installed incorre... Read more

A:Missing startup files

Windows Vista boot files are missing and I tried re-installing from OEM CD and nothing works. Tried the Repair, no luck what can I do next?

There are several reasons for this, e.g. corruption to the file bootmgr. Depending upon your exact issue, the following should help to resolve it.
Boot from the DVD (you may have to change the first boot device to CD/DVD in the BIOS), answer a few questions, select the Repair option in the bottom left corner and choose:
1. You mention ‘repair’ in your post, but have you tried Startup Repair? If not run it several times.

2. If the above doesn't cure the problem, go back to the Repair Option and this time choose Command Prompt, then type these 4 commands (in all instances the capitals are for clarity only):
BOOTREC /FIXMBR and press Enter
BOOTREC /FIXBOOT and press Enter.
BOOTREC /SCANOS and press Enter.
BOOTREC /REBUILDBCD and press Enter.

3. If it’s still not successful or you receive ‘No operating system found’ or ‘Element not found’ messages, go back to the Command Prompt and make the partition active by typing these commands:
DISKPART and press Enter.
LIST DISK and press Enter.
SELECT DISK N and press Enter (N represents the disk you want).
LIST PARTITION and press Enter.
SELECT PARTITION N and press Enter (N represents the partition you want).
ACTIVE and press Enter.
EXIT and press Enter.
Now go back to 1 above and run it again, perhaps run 2 as well.

Today I used Runscanner, which found more than 50 missing files, 48 of which are drivers, e.g. Abiosdsk.sys, abp480n5.sys, ..., WDICA.sys.

I guess, not being very experienced, that it would be possible to download each of these somewhere and put it in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers folder.

Two questions: 1. Where do I go for the downloads to be almost sure that I get the correct (non-infected) files. 2. Is it possible to download several files in one go?

Note: Although I'm posting a snippet from a HijackThis log, this issue doesn't concern malware and I'm not requesting malware removal advice.I'm having all sorts of trouble with Vista Home Premium SP1. It's been squirrel-y since the beginning (I installed it last April on a newly built machine). I've been getting a BSOD more and more frequently. I finally reinstalled over the previous install hoping that would fix it. Nope. It's gotten worse. I've run chkdsk (don't know the results, because I don't know where the log file is) and done a memory scan (no errors). When I boot into safe mode, it's stable, so I'm thinking it's a 3rd party driver. But the BSOD errors I've been able to record indicate fltmgr.sys and ndis.sys as sources--both OS drivers. I get the message "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" that also seems to indicate a driver problem.I ran SFC. It turned up missing or corrupted files but said it couldn't replace them. I looked at the log (which I can upload if anyone is willing to take a look) but I couldn't figure out what was missing or corrupt or couldn't be replaced and why--so it was no help to me.I ran HijackThis and didn't seem to turn up much except some missing files. Does anyone know if I'm reading this right? That is, is my OS really missing files like lsass.exe and slsvc.exe? If so, are those the files SFC was referring to? More importantly, can and should I replace those files? (This is my last attempt to fix the OS before doing a clean i... Read more

I was running System Mechanic as a routine - (i.e. not a virus, or spyware problem), and Windows XP decided it wanted to do an install of some service pack automatically - which it did an auto reboot in the middle of SM running! Grrr...system froze when it came back up. I came back to just see the frozen screen and SM screen closed - and it looked rebooted.

Now when the computer is turned on in safe mode or regular, it just does a DOS listing of missing drivers - very extensive list.

Got a CD hard copy of System Mechanic - but now am told if I use it to rescue the computer, it will delete my files! Yikes!

My computer, Xplio, came with Windows installed. The rescue disk, if I can find it, (may be in storage) I believe also says it deletes files if used...one reason I didn't keep it out and easily found.

1. How do I save / rescue my files???? I have many years of nonprofit work on the computer I don't want to lose.

2. Can the computer be "saved"?

3. Is there a way to use someone else's Windows XP disks with their passwords (legitimate copy) on my computer to reinstall the missing drivers?

OR - can all the drivers be downloaded from somewhere - ideally for free? I can prove I have/ had legitimate right to Windows XP - I noticed Microsoft charges for tech support - guess I am naive - was surprised it would charge for first call ever!

At the point, getting the files off, and usable is most important. I have a laptop running Vista - is there a wa... Read more

Yesterday evening a message popped up in my system tray informing me that a file was corrupt and it would be a good idea to run scan disk/chkdsk.

I closed windows thinking nothing more of it, but wanted to make sure the pc would startup again ok, so I turned it back on and it went straight to the CHKDSK screen telling me it would be a good idea to do a scan. I pressed a key to bypass it, the computer then restarted and went back to this screen, so I let it check the c: drive that windows is loaded onto.

It came up saying there were several corrupted areas, and started deleting and adding files. There were 3 stages, not the normal 5 when you schedule a CHKDSK.

The last stage was something like checking security descriptors, then updating UNC database or something like that I cant remember.

Now the computer wont start, I have tried booting to Safe Mode, and reverting to last known good settings etc but nothing.

I have partitioned my hard drive, so would it be possible to load XP onto the d: then try and sort the C drive from there?

Is this a virus?

A:Chkdsk Deleted Files Pc Wont Startup

Do you have the recovery console installed - or can you install it from your XP installation CD? (by booting from it and selecting the first "R" to repair from the recovery console?

If so, try the following commands in Recovery Console:
fixmbr
fixboot
bootcfg

Since this is a hard drive error, the very first thing that you should do once you get back into the system is BACKUP your data! This may be a sign of impending hard disk failure and you don't want to get caught with your data unprotected!

Hi and welcome.

Have you tried the HP site? Have you googled for example your model + drivers?

How To Find Drivers:

Quote:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try ... Read more

After updating to IE7 (from microsoft) why will the "run once" page, which you get firstly, not accept my settings?

A:Why wont IE7 accept my settings?

Perhaps there is some corruption in IE. Go to Start>Run then type cmd, click OK. In the command window type sfc /scannow, a progress bar will appear, wait for it to finish then reboot your computer. This is the standard fix for many IE problems and is worth a try.

Hi, Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Welcome ! I am afraid there is a bad news. The code shows that your Hard Disk Drive (HDD) has failed. This is a hardware problem - faulty Hard Disk drive (HDD). You will probably not be able to recovery your files (more to follow). I also see your warranty period has expired.  Your options:  If your computer is with warranty period expired, you will need to replace the faulty HDD - buy it on your own. There are variety of options - vendors you can choose from - you need 2.5 inches HDD SATA. You can get it online or from PC retail store.   How to replace the faulty HDD with new HDD or new SSD: please, find info and instruction in your computer's manual or watch YouTube videos examples for HP 2000 (example > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jioi3_g1x6E) . If you do not want to do this on your own, please bring the computer (or ship it) to HP Authorized Service Center where the technicians will do this for you. If you are not sure where such a center is located, check these or contact HP for assistance in finding the nearest one for you:>> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00372730>> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/store-finder/find.do?bs=SR4&type=authorized   Last part - once you replace the faulty component - you will need to reinstall back your operating system - Windows or another. ... Hello,

this has been driving me bonkers for the last few days, I check forums and websites but have not found any answers. I have a laptop with XP Pro on which I regularly update my password, the ctlr+alt+del > change password way.

When I tried this ealier last week I got a message saying (translating from Dutch to English): my password must be 0 characters, cannot repeat any of my 0 passwords, must be at least 0 days old.

This is totally new to me, I changed the password before without issues, so my search on the web lead me to gpedit.msc, where I select windows settings, security settings, account policy. There are several entries here and they show (again translated from Dutch to English):

maximum password time: 0
min password time: 0
min password length: 0
remember old passwords: 0
complexity: disabled
something about coding: disabled

so as far as I can tell there is not password policy however when I change my password there seems to be. I have played with this a bit and set complixty to enabled, min length to 6 and tried to change it to AbCd12! which should work as its >6 long, uses caps, lowercase and numbers, but again the same message, so I set it back to how it was, 0's and disabled.

I also tried net user <username> <newpassword> but getting the same message
the account has admin rights but I logged in as admin and tried to change the password that way for the specific account but again the same message

So right now I am totally lost, ... Read more

A:Solved: XP Pro SP3 - wont accept any new password

I am not certain I am on the right line here.
Firstly, gpedit is GROUP policy Edit and has no connection DIRECTLY with the normal user/admin/guest password.
Retunring to the cmd "net user akm-bl" - realising of course it is not that. This should provide as in my screenshot

To save me a lot of typing if you instruct the cmd
Type 'net user /HELP' for more info.
You will then see what each command is and what is achieved.

However I would recommend you type
"control userpasswords2" - start, run .
as if I am correct you will find what you want there.
On the advanced tab click the advanced button on Advanced user management and explore there in Local users and groups.

If you don't have a port on the opposite side of the laptop I'd recommend transferring the files onto a different PC then burn them to a disc to get them onto your laptop. Don't persist in trying to use the USB port/s as there is a chance of causing more damage.

i restored my computer to an earlier date, september, now it wont accept my password and it wont let me answer my password hint

i have lost everything, pictures, files, i know there there but how do i get to answer my question as i am admid

A:Computer wont accept my password

Hello Colette, and welcome to Seven Forums.

When you do a system restore it will also restore the user accounts' passwords to what they were at the time the restore point was created.

If you remember what it was then, you should be able to enter that password to log on.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hello,

Earlier yesterday I was having an issue where sound was both playing through my laptop's speakers as well as the headphones I had plugged in. Not really knowing an exact way to fix this I went to the device and disabled it hoping that could temporarily solve my problem. Now, I am assuming because of this whenever I boot into Windows 7 I get to the "please wait" screen then instantly get a blue screen every time and I can only boot into safe mode. I found this thread (one or more audio service isnt running) through Google and found that this user had the same issues I was having (I am also getting the audio service error when I run the troubleshooter) but I assume that because of what I did with the speakers that is why none of those solutions are helping me. I believer my speakers are Realtek and when I run dxdiag I get the hardware ID of HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0272&SUBSYS_1025028D&REV_1000 (I ran this dxdiag in the copy of the Windows 8 dev preview I have also installed to my hard drive)

I do have the results from Windows_NT6_BSOD_jcgriff2 attached but when I ran perfmon /report I got: "An error occurred while attempting to generate the report.
The system cannot find the path specified."

My copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit came pre-installed on my machine which I got either 2 or 3 years ago, don't remember exactly. I did reset to factory settings one last June but I don't think that means much with this.

Than... Read more

Hi,

My netbook - a Toshiba nb305 - is inexplicably not accepting my password, nor that of my wife's who has a separate user account. We know the passwords we're inputting are correct, so have no explanation. We have ensured that the CAPS lock and NUM locks are off (and we've tried entering passwords with them on) so that's not the problem. I'm presently holidaying in Greece, and the netbook was working perfectly on the plane journey over here. Came to use it in the hotel, and it is having this problem. Tried starting in Safe Mode also but same problem occurs. Any help you could give me would be GREATLY appreciated.

Regards,

John

Is the laptop you are logging into normally used at work? If so, check the Domain you are logging into, try changing that to just the computer name.

Something isn't right with my computer. Sometimes when I reboot or startup my system some of the icons that should be in the status bar(Where the clock is) don't load. Opening task manager shows the programs running but the icons don't show up. Sometimes its the volume icons, Anti-virus icon etc.

Also, Sometimes ill save a file to my desktop or another location and the file never shows up. As an example; when I ran DDS for this post and saved the two files to my desktop they never showed up. I had to run the scan again. This time they did save.

And lastly my system is running really, really slow as of late. Please help.

Hi NewcS,

Please note that these fixes are not instantaneous. Most infections require more than one round to properly eradicate.

Please stay with me until given the 'all clear' even if symptoms seemingly abate.

Kindly follow my instructions and please do no fixing on your own or running of scanners unless requested by a helper.

-----

Let's start by running combofix.

1. Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Place combofix.exe on your Desktop
2. Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with ComboFix.
You can get help on disabling your protection programs here

3. Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
Note: Windows Vista users will have to right-click on the file and select "Run as Administrator"

4. As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed.

Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

The Windows recovery console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery mode that allows us to help you in the case that your computer has a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly... Read more

I've got a perfectly functioning Intel DP55WG motherboard running with RAID on Win7. Just got an SSD hard drive to replace as boot drive, and trying to do a fresh Win7 install on it. I updated motherboard BIOS, and downloaded the latest RAID drivers from the Intel Website for this motherboard.

When Win7 Setup asks for the driver, I point to the folder, it finds it and lists what appears to be the proper option (desktop server express chipset ...) but then when I click 'Next' is says 'no new devices can be found, make sure driver files are correct...'.

So I can't continue. Any ideas would be most appreciated.

A:Win7 won't accept F6 RAID drivers at Install

You should not need to use any external drivers when you install Windows 7, especially with an Intel board.
Just let the install continue without adding drivers.

I have a 80 gig XPpro machine that has been slowing down so i Partitioned it into 2 - 40 gigs and reloaded XP on the D drive. Everything worked great ..loaded the MSI M/B drivers, did the SP2 update...but when I try and install the Nvdia drivers for the MSI Ti4200 video card , after the restart the screen goes black during startup. Right after the XP start screen it goes dark. After a Last Known Good restart I can get it back up but after several tries with either the original Nvidia CD drivers or the current nvidia web drivers neither work. What would cause the drivers not to take? I swapped the video card out for another older working nvidia card and tried again ....same result. Very strange. Both cards are AGP...I dont have a PCI card or I would try that. Anyone have any ideas ??

A:NEw XP computer doesnt accept nvidia drivers

Why did you install your OS on D: drive? Most programs, etc, that you install look for the operating system, etc, to be on Drive C:. You have to redirect them to D:, and that's too inconvenient, at least for me. I'd recommend you get rid of your current partitions, reformat the drive, and start over.

Sounds like a browser problem. Try doing an AV scan and also scan using Malwarebytes Anti-malware first though.

I'm having problems with my Acer laptop. The computer opens normally but when I click on my user button and a dialogue box appears, asking for my password, I cannot type any information in the box. Furthermore the touch pad won't move the cursor, although I can move it with a mouse!
I am the main user and since I cannot enter my password in the dialogue box I have to use another user name
that doesn't have a password entry to access the computer. I am using XP(2)
Please advise.
Thanks,
Trevorjd.
