Laptop XP freezes at Windows Load Page

Q: Laptop XP freezes at Windows Load Page

Hi. My laptop suddenly won't start. It's an HP, and it freezes at the Windows logo with the bars going across. Sometimes it will suddenly fade like a film strip melting. Does anyone know how to get past this? I've tried safe mode and it still won't boot up.

Thanks for your help.

I am not sure how this started or what exactly I did to create this but I cannot get IE to run on my Windows 8 machine. This is a fairly new (one month old) laptop I bought with Windows 8 on it.

IE was working OK on this machine, but I must have done something wrong over the weekend. I also installed Firefox over the weekend too (out of frustration with IE, could that have caused a problem?). Firefox is operating fine, so I know I have a functional internet connection. When I open IE, it just spins its wheels forever and times out, regardless of what site I am trying to open.

I disabled all add-ons in IE (Tools | Programs | Manage Add-Ons and disabled all).

I "reset" IE doing the following steps:
a. Press Windows key + R then type ?inetcpl.cpl? without quotes and press Enter.
b. Under Advanced tab, click on Reset.
c. Check the Delete personal settings box.
d. Click on Reset and then Close.

I have restarted my laptop. I can run Firefox fine but cannot get anything to load in IE. I'm lost. Any ideas?

I scrapped it & use Chrome.

Problem solved. FYI to those who have similar problems. Reset your router to factory settings, change password and when you log on with the added computer close all windows that pop up unless its the window that asks for key(password) go to the routers home page and it will walk you through the steeps. No disk needed. Thank you John and others that tried to help!

Hi I really hope someone can help me!

I have a fujitsu lifebook with windows 7 on it
I had an error message pop up when i tried to click on google chrome this morning, so I closed it and attempted to re-start my laptop, then AVG pops up telling me I have a virus so I allowed it to "clear" said virus. I then restarted my laptop and it would not go to the login page.

I attempted system repair to no avail, I then allowed chkdsk to run and there were a lot of "security ID repairs", I have also tried f12 and booting from my windows 7 installation disk. Non of these options have worked

I get the fujitsu screen, then the windows loading screen then instead of the log in screen which would be next, I get a black screen with the cursor visable and you can move the cursor but nothing else works and no keyboard shortcuts work

someone please help.
I've been told to restore the OS but i cannot afford to lose all the files on my laptop

A:Laptop wont load past windows page, stuck with black screen and cursor

Since AVG 'cleaned' a virus - all bets r off as the problem could be a leftover from the virus. apparently, a (some) system files r damaged. Going forward, u might not want to run normally as an admin user. That helps keep malware from invisibly installing if the AV does not catch it. 1. have u tried booting to safe mode? If u can get there try this clk Start - type CMD -- rt clk cmd.exe and select Run as Admin when the dos window opens type 'sfc /scannow' let it run retry boot when done. 2. If u can't get there or that doesn't work put ur windows CD in and boot to that. Run the repair install - or it might be called upgrade. Just do NOT do a CLEAN install. That will not erase any of your data. 3. If that does not work If u get a Hiren's boot disk, or something similar. U can boot to that and most likely copy ur data from the drive prior to doing a clean install. This assumes the drive isn't corrupt which appears to be true since it gets to the Windows screen. 4. If not u will have to remove the drive and connect it to another computer as an external HDD to copy the data. 5. If none of the above works - u have come to the complete understanding of the word BACKUP................ good luck

Sounds like the Desktop's WiFi device may have a disconnected antenna, or conflicting with some nearby interference or it may be a flaky/failing WiFi device.

Hi,So I've had this issue for a while but it seems to go away and come back every few weeks. So just to give you a clear idea, when my laptop loads Skype will come up and connect and I'll usually get a onedrive thing come up which I usually just close. This tells me that my computer is working fine.So whenever my computer does this, Skype doesn't come up nor the onedrive thing. So I'll try to open google chrome or any other apps and my laptop will suddenly freeze but I can still move the mouse until suddenly the loading thing on the cursor appears and my entire desktop locks up and nothing will work. Sometimes this isn't the issue when it's not working and it'll load google chrome, but google chrome will be stuck on loading and I can't load any webpages. If I close Google chrome when this happens, I can't open it again nor any other apps.Usually restarting it works, but this time it's not the case. Help?

Hi,
I am having trouble connecting to a particular wireless network with my pc laptop. I can see the router and have very good signal strength, and while the laptop says it is connected, when I try to load any webpages, they just continuously try to load, with nothing coming up but a blank white page. I've been in contact with my ISP, who has been absolutely no help at all. They are assuming it's the laptop; however, I am able to use this laptop elsewhere to connect to wireless networks all the time--this is the first trouble I've had.

Forgive me, I'm not extremely computer savvy, but here is what I've done so far: cmd prompt-ipconfig...says ipv6 is connected (isp talked me through that). Then, they walked me through ping, which did not work because no page came up again. They had me doublecheck all the options in internet options, which, according to them, was correct.

I'm at a loss here because it seems like nobody can help. The laptop is connected to the internet (lower right hand corner of screen says "currently connected to snouffer net, access: local and internet - and the earth symbol is in front of the icon, indicating I am in fact connected), but no web pages.

Please, if anyone can help?

My Sony VAIO runs on Windows XP. I feel like my system is loaded with malware or maybe is controlled by a bot.net. I feel this because I encounter so many problems with it.

First, it takes probably 20-30 minutes for everything to load at start-up. Second, it freezes all the time (at least once a day or more) and I have to just press the power button to turn it off or unplug it.

My virus program is Avast. Recently, it has an "X" over the AVAST icon. When I call up Avast, it gives a warning that my system is no protected. But after several minutes, Avast shows that the system is protected (so, in other words, something is turning Avast off during the boot/start-up cycle...maybe to keep it from catching rootkits?).

The whole system runs VERY, VERY slowly at all software I may run.

This may not be related, but recently all my Google bookmarks went missing after a boot-up.

I ran HiJack This but am not sure if I am permitted to post the log here? I did not run any fixes because I know it is advised not to do this without guidance from a Bleeping Computer expert. I have a copy of cc cleaner but have not run it for samereason. I also have a freshly downloaded copy of Malwarebytes.

I did notice in the HiJack This log that there are several items listing which appear to want to redirect my home page to MSN. My Home Page should be usatoday.com on both IE8 and Chrome. Sometimes, I have been redirected to MSN and I have had to go in to reset my default home page... Read more

I cannot access my computer so I'm typing this from a laptop.

Couple of days ago, my computer froze while I was running an app to display the picture from my video card, alongside an audio editor among other things. These 2 programs had confilcted before -- If I would open the video display app before opening the audio prog, there would be a conflict and the computer would lock up, requiring a restart.

However, the most recent occurrence had happened not when opening the prog, but had froze after several hours of them both running. When I actually checked the comp and saw what had happened, it had been in the frozen state for about an hour. I thought the usual powering off/on of the comp would work, but instead:

- Bios loaded, followed by...nothing. The "Windows XP Pro" logo would normally have appeared, but it didn't; just a black screen after the Bios.

- Second restart yielded exactly the same results, so I left it Switched off for 10 hours, tried again after that, but still, it wouldn't load XP --

- Last thing I tried was booting in Safe Mode; what happened was, on the screen to select the OS, I selected it (WinXP Pro)...and it froze on that screen. So it seems to be not a case of not loading the OS, but rather freezing when trying to load it.

I don't really want to format and lose the contents of my C: Drive, that would be the worst scenario, but if it is related to that, I understand that might be the only option...Hopefully someone ... Read more

My laptop is an HP and it is freezing when I try to load it. I was able to start it in safe mode a few times and now, safe mode doesn't load either. It shows the drivers it's loading and then it stops at mup.sys. On the regular screen, the windows bar that goes back and forth just freezes and it stays that way. I am truly frustrated and am trying to find an answer where I don't need the xp cd because I can't find it. Anyone help!

A:Windows xp freezes on load

Unfortunately there is not a great deal you can do about it without the XP CD. Did the CD come with the machine or was Windows pre-installed? If the latter then you should have a recovery partition on the hard drive that can be accessed by a function key during boot (usually F12 or F11). Be awarem tho', that recovery will wipe the disk clean.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium (x64) Service Pack 1 and the Windows update page will not load. No error messages it will not load. Any Microsoft help or support that leads to anything connected with Windows update will not load. I thought I was getting auto updates, but I am missing 8 important to critical updates. I have even tried downloading IE8 but it gets stuck on the Windows update.

What to do, what to do, what to do?

TIA

A:Windows update page will not load.

I was in your situation with Vista 32 for 3 months. First thing is to scan for malicious software/rootkits that may have turned off update. If you are confident that is not the cause, then you will need to rename the SoftwareDistribution folder in the Windows directory, something like SoftwareDistributionOld. You may have to first turnoff update in the Services (Administrative Tools) to do this. Reboot, and Update will recreate your SoftwareDistribution folder and you "may" then be able to update. Otherwise, like in my situation, you have a lot of heartache and google searching to do. I had to run a bits.reg routine to fix my bits (background Intelligent Transfer Services) in my registry; then I had to reregister a boatload of dll's. TurboTax 2008 had poorly installed and corrupted a number of files and registry entries.

Good luck.....

I'm working on my mom's computer remotely via LogMeIn (Home Premium SP2). A persistent problem is an inability to update the system due to the Windows Update giving me a "The page failed to load" error. This happens after I click on the "15 optional updates are available" hyperlink in the Windows Update pane. There are no critical updates.

An initial Google search returned the most common cause as being "WindowBlinds" by Stardock. This program, however, is not installed on her computer (verified by a search of programs in the "All Programs" links, "Program Files" folder, "Uninstall or change a program", and a search for "stardock" in the registry.

"sfc /scannow" in administrative mode on the command line failed to return any errors.

I also went to Microsoft's relevant Knowledge Base article here and attempted to use the Fix It program to fix Windows Update. The program successfully ran and fixed the files that were damaged (whatever they happened to be), but this did not solve the issue.

Finally, I removed threats using SUPERAntiSpyware, reregistered some .dll files as recommended by Microsoft (IMPORTANT NOTE: Some of them failed), and restarted with non-essential services disabled and startup items disabled.

you've probably heard this before but everywhere I look forums only tell of how to fix or temporarily fix it. What caused this problem in the first place? also, I keep hearing about this thing called windows blinds but everytime I type it in on google it just shows actual window blinds for houses in the results.

I think my pc may have registry problems. If i fix those with the right software will everything be normal again? sometimes when I play my games it also just shuts down unexpectedly telling me a prob caused it to close.

Don't mean to sound like a noob for this stuff but it kind of bugs me how you have to do so much research and be a tech genius in order to use windows right. I mainly want to know about this stuff because I play crysis alot and it has taught me to fix and reconfigure things on my pc in order for it to run better and I'm happy about that but I don't really want to be a techie or pc enthusiast and have to go to computer school for 4 years just so I can run my game perfectly! its driving me nuts. so any help on what I can do to solve this? know its my fault for downloading freeware and things like that when I wasnt as knowledgeble but after this gets resolved I think I know enough about pc's now to prevent any future problems. thanks guys.

On booting up, my Windows XP Home does not load past the "Welcome" page. In other words, it only boots up to my user account icons. When I press any of my user account icons, it then loads the usual "Welcome" page with your personal user icon and doesn't load any further, just sitting on that page. If I do a Control/Alt/Delete, next to the account user icon it says, "loading your personal settings", but nothing loads, it just stays on that "Welcome" page.

This is a problem because I can't get into any of my files/tools/etc to do anything about it. In other words, I appear to be locked out.

I am thinking it may be a virus/worm/etc because my McAfee Security anti-virus is way out of date, but I regularly clean up with Adaware and other windows devices. My 60G hard drive has about 14% free space. I take it I can't even reformat or save any files that I need?

Hello skysmama and welcome to TSG.

Please give us the "exact make and model of your system". Are you stuck on the login screen? Do you have any errors on bootup? Do you have a backup of your important data? You should have a recover partition on the laptop, and this will bring the system back to factory defaults, But! you will loss all your saved data in doing this. The more information you give us, the better we can help.

Hi

I have an ASUS K72F laptop running Windows 7, and it has always worked fine with both wired and wireless connections. I recently changed Internet provider from BT to Plusnet, though I cannot be sure that this is when the problem began.

It still works fine when wired, but when I switch the wireless on and unplug the ethernet cable, it says that there is a strong connection to the network with internet access, and I am able to find the router by putting http://192.168.1.254/ into the browser, but I cannot load any Internet pages on any browser, and cannot use any other Internet apps like Skype. The wireless works fine on another laptop and on my phone - it is just on this Asus laptop.

I have tried searching for posts of various forums - but have just ended up using command prompt to ping google (it was not successful) and running a utility called winsockfix, which made no difference. I have scanned for malware and virus - I have removed a couple, but this hasn't fixed the problem.

Recently I discovered that windows update on my computer doesn't work anymore. When I tried to access Windows Update page , all I got is: "This webpage is not available." in google chrome. In Internet Explorer when I try the windows update link, the browser keeps closing and restarting with no success. If trying to google about this problem concerning windows update issues I also get the browser closing and restarting. Also no succes in Mozzila Firefox nor in Apple Safari. I tried all browsers with no success: windows update page is not working ( Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage), neither is it possible to update form Windows, I just can't get updates to work no matter I do.

When I tried to run Combofix to see the results, the computer freezes and I need to shutdown and restart.
I scanned my computer with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and I didn't get any objects infected.
What advice can you give me?
Thanks in advance.

PS: also on this page in this post when I tried to paste the windows update adress(link) I could not post, I get "This webpage is not available." in chrome.
In Safari: Safari can’t open the page “http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?”. The error is: “unknown error” (kCFErrorDomainWinSock:10052)
And it is only because I pasted the adress of windows update site I could not post it no matter what browser I use.

Hi,

Just a few hours ago, my daughter was playing a pc game, it froze, so she went to restart..she clicked Start and then on Restart. The computer restarted. Well, the computer keeps landing on that black screen saying Windows did not shut down properly. I have tried to restart the computer in all three Safe Modes, Last good configuration etc... it restarts and then comes back to that black page saying Windows has been shut down improperly. Windows will not load at all.

I tried searching for this topic already and I didn't see one that was like this, so I hope I am not asking a repeat question.

Thanks

oh and the operating system is Windows XP Professional

Windows Vista update page will not load with information or work.
When I launch windows update in vista the page comes up blank. It gives the appearance that it is still loading. The only way to get rid of the blank page is in "start task Manager". In Task Manager it (windows update) is shown as running. There are no error messages.

Every few google searches I have the following problem. I enter my search, and get my results page fine. Then, when I click on the page I want I get the following message on the screen (with the correct address in the address bar)

Connection Interrupted

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.

The computer and connection is not running slow. This happens right away. So then I click or highlight the address bar and hit Enter as if I typed the address and it goes right to it. It's happening every few times or so.

I wasn't sure if this was a firefox issue or a windows issue. So far I've gone to Windows Security (I have Vista) and deleted Firefox and I also tried adding it but checking it as an exception. Neither seemed to solved the issue.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

A:Page load error question - Firefox or Windows?

Welcome sfran7!

Try typing about:config in your addy bar. In the page that appears (you'll get a warning to be careful first!) type browser.urlbar in the search bar at top and look for browser.urlbar.search.timeout and the figure you have in the value should be 100. If it isn't, double click and enter 100. If it is, try adding more time by upping the number.

Hi,

I recently bought a new Laptop which has windows Vista, for some reason when it loads intenet pages (especially eBay) it seems to load the page fully (bottom left corner of window says done) but the egg timer (now a circle on Vista) keeps the explorer page frozen for as long as 2 or 3 minutes sometimes?

It is not eBay itself as it does not do this on other PC's in the house (none on Vista)
I am not sure if it is coincidence or not but when the page finally unfreezes some Gif images seem to appear at the same time as if these are stopping the loading of the page.
However I am not convinced this is something to do with it as other Gif images load no problem.

It does seem very slow on other internet sites as well but eBay is especially slow.

Does eBay have issues with Vista?

Thx in advance for any helpers!

Hi everybody,

I have been using my.yahoo.com home page that was provided by my IPS AT&T. All of the sudden I could not get a home page when I clicked on Home button. My home page is www.my.yahoo.com. It works on hubby's PC and doesn't work on mine. It's a customizable page that allows me to put only the stuff I want - calendar, news, apps. etc.
When I clicked on Home I get this error message (please see attached image):

Does anybody use this home page from AT&T and has an idea what happened. I did a System Restore already and it did not help.
Any tip and advice are much appreciated.
P.S. I tries to use ADW Cleaner to remove whatever a problem may be with Yahoo, but ADW freezes my computer, totally unusable. .

Hello,

Hopefully I posted this in the right forum? Sorry, I'm kinda new to this...

So the log in page on my computer is not loading at all. There is no icon, no password, nothing, just the log in background screen. The screen also flashes a black screen really fast... When I put my computer to safe mode the same problem is there except the flashing occurs once every ~1 minute. Because of this problem I can't use my computer at all and I don't know what I should do next..

Computer:
Windows 7 Home Premium
Fujitsu Lifebook L Series

Also, yesterday night I turned off my computer to go to sleep, my computer was doing an automatic update so it was on for awhile while I slept.

Thanks guys!

I've noticed that lately when I turn my laptop on, it takes forever for the desktop to load and then when I click on IE, my home page doesn't want to open until I've used task manager several times to stop the program from running. I have AVG free version and I'm very careful of where I search and what I open. I've done virus scans from online and with AVG, I've deleted several programs I had on my computer, etc. Nothing seems to help. I did the ComboFix scan and have the log saved to my notepad. It did not seem to help. This is as far as I've gotten. I am not very computer literate, but when I do try something from different posts, I've been successful. I don't know if I have programs fighting each other to open, or what, Can anyone help?

I have an Acer Aspire laptop running Vista with an Intel Celeron, all less than a year old. Recently, when I try to boot my computer, it is taking a long time at the green progress bar screen and then again at the welcome screen. When I get to the desktop, there's a black screen instead of a desktop background, and nothing will load. No taskbar, application tray, no icons, nothing. Can't use start menu, anytime I move the mouse to that vicinity I get the little blue circle. None of the applications that used to boot come up, zip. The only, literally only thing, I am being allowed to do is to use ctrl/alt/delete. Many restarts and log-offs have done nothing. I have tried cancelling and then reloading explorer.exe in task manager, and it does the same thing. I have run various virus scans and spybot scans and nothing has changed, no problems found. I have tried system restore, but when I tried it failed, and then when I went to try again it had somehow erased all my restore points. The computer did this a week ago and system restore fixed it and it seemed fine restarting/booting since then, but now the problem is back. I didn't even restart, just came downstairs today to find, coming back from the screensaver, that it was at this screen from when the updater must have restarted the computer! As I said, there was a Windows Update last night, could that have caused this? Again, all the Windows diagnostic tools (chkdsk, memory scan, startup problems scan) have found... Read more

At the Windows 98 load screen with the happy blue clouds, the scrolling bar at the bottom goes from left to right, then kinda hangs in place for a few seconds, and then resumes scrolling, except the system just sits there and the processor isnt doing any work. Safe mode works. Also, in step-by-step confirmation, it freezes after trying to load msmouse.vxd.

So yesterday my computer was working fine shutdown for the night, turned on this morning and it is freezing the splash screen.

Safe-mode works (i am in right now), tried a system restore cause yesterday my avg had upadated so I restored to a few days before that. Restart and nothing, so back in to safe-mode upon loading I am told that restore worked.

I uninstalled AVG, nothing.
Ran S&D, nothing.
Malarware bytes, nothing.
Ran AVG, nothing. (must have restored)

I am at a loss of what to do. The only thing I can think of is the AVG update, cause it had asked me to restart but I didnt bother restarting since I was going to shutoff the computer soon.

System restarted, and now when windows loads, the desktop icons wont show up, and neither will the taskbar, then the whole thing just freezes

I have tried all the F8 options/fixes, and nothing has worked so far.

Any help at all?

Use Advanced Boot Options and select Repair Your Computer (the guide to get to advanced boot options is included in that link). This means it does not reach the bottom of the page and so no boot options,
Usually clean the memory card and graphics card contacts with switch cleaner and cool PC with liquid Freon.
However. this time even after a few hrs. to cool it will still not reach the bottom of the boot page so no boot or bios options are available.
It has been into a lab twice where they replaced the cpu fan and removed a faulty DVD player which they said was causing the problem.
I formatted most of the hard drives saving some files and made a clean installation of windows 7 home premium with a new activation code.
But this time even after a few hrs. cooling it will still not reach the boot options or bios entry at the bottom of the boot page.Any ideas what could be causing this?
If it doesn't reset by tomorrow a.m. I will have to return it to the lab.But I don't think they have any ideas what to do.
I was converting video files at the time it froze.
My speccy results are on another link on this forum.Really stumped this time so any suggestions short of scrapping it and buying a new PC would be appreciated.Particularly annoying after re-installing many of the programs I require and worked non-stop 4 48 hours to get up to date and it was working really well.

At this stage i only have 18 processes running, which is 10 or so less than i usually do ^^;;

After a 2 or so minute wait everything just comes out of it's coma and starts running fine.
This is incredibly annoying, and if anyone has any solutions, please let me know!!

I attempted to install the new detonators 23.12 for my Geforce II GTS, but the install got messed up b/c it asked for files and I didn't realize at the time to locate the folder I unzipped them to. Anyways I ended up cancelling when it asked for every file and it "installed" them but of course it wasn't right...so I went back and tried to load the old 23.11 that I had installed. After they were loaded I rebooted when it prompted me to do so.

Ever since then my computer won't load windows. It will boot at the BIOS but then it goes to the windows 98 screen and freezes. I can run it in safe mode...and when I do and go to control panel>system>devices>display adaptors the picture next to geforce II gts has a red x over it. What the heck does this mean? The card is inserted correctly. I've tried to load drivers from safe mode but when I tried to load the 23.11 drivers it says the nvidia card doesn't exist on the system. And I've tried to load other drivers in safe mode but havn't had any success.

I have the same problem. The loading of programs into the system tray 'pauses' for 1-2 minutes before everything continues normally. During the pause other programs can be run from the desktop but nothing can be accessed via the taskbar or system tray (hourglass icon appears when cursor is over sys tray & taskbar). This has only started in the last week. I have removed all programs i have installed after the problem started but it has made no difference. The PC has XP sp2.
Most times it pauses with Norton AV loaded but disabled (red cross) but this is not always the case. And NAV is always enabled when the pause ends.

Hi bax and welcome to TSG,

I have split your post off into a thread of its own. It's not a good idea to tack onto an existing post as you may get overlooked.

Please do this. Click here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html to download Hijack This.

It’s very important that you save it to its own folder on your hard drive, such as program files (not temporary files or the desktop), so that it can create proper back-ups and be able to restore them if necessary.

Close all open windows and open Hijack This. Click “Scan”. When the scan is finished (it only takes a second), the scan button will change to “Save Log”. Click on “Save Log” and then save it to NotePad. Click on “Edit” – “Select all” – “copy” and then “paste” into the thread.

DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET, most items that appear in the log are harmless or even needed.

I have a very simple web page that automatically updates daily. However, very often when I view it I just get the version that is in my browser cache rather than the latest version from the web. I have to do a manual refresh from the browser to see the latest version. Not a problem for me, but other viewers of the page may not realize they aren't seeing the latest information.

Is there an HTML tag or some such that can be included in the page that will force a refresh and override any old version that the viewer may still have in their browser cache?

Hi there.
I recently had a trojan dnschanger on my laptop. I tried using malwarebytes program to remove it several times and then gave up and sent it in to get repaired at a shop in town. They told me there was no infection and sent it back to me. I reran the test and sure enough it was gone. but...

What had originally made me try using malwarebytes to scan ( avg, spybot s&d, and adaware did not find anything) was that my browser was acting strange. When I do a Google search and click on one of the results, it will load a blank page saying 'done' in the bottom corner, then after 5 seconds or so it will then load the page i wanted.

For instance, I click on "hxxp://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-115088-using-web-browser-page-loads-but-screen-blank" search result and it puts this:

"hxxp://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&source=web&ct=res&cd=1&ved=0CAcQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.kioskea.net%2Fforum%2Faffich-115088-using-web-browser-page-loads-but-screen-blank&rct=j&q=browser+loads+blank+page+then+&ei=W6JzS6q_G8PgnAec2vmyCQ&usg=AFQjCNHiczGbtPYRraVBQ_7hGcgLE2f6LQ&as_acct=9dm612l7ldg&cr=s6ar6l7"

into the top bar and sits on the blank,'done' page for 5 or 10 secs then goes to the "hxxp://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-115088-using-web-browser-page-loads-but-screen-blank" page after.

It is driving me crazy. This is doing it in firefox 3.5.7 and also in ie 8.0.7600.16385 - (i rarely use ie)

They kept saying that I'm using an old version of IE and needed IE5 or later to display their pages.

I've checked all the settings for IE6 and everything seems to be in place, the system is fully patched and an up-to-date antivirus OfficeScan 7.0 is running. No virus or spyware were found by OfficeScan and Ad-Aware SE 1.05. I've run sfc /scannow and re-installed ie.inf, but still couldn't solve the problem.

There're a few strange things that I need to point out. When I clicked Help->About Internet Explorer at IE, it doesn't display the Version, Cipher Strength and Product ID, they are all left blank. And when I clicked OK, it doesn't go away... (see attachment) Everything inside my computer is licensed, so I don't know why it doesn't display the Product ID.

Another thing is that when I tried to open Windows Media Player, it just prompted me an error message saying that "An internal application error has occured.", and the media player won't load.

This problem has been troubling me because it prevents me from updating the Windows myself, so hopefully some Microsoft experts here are able to help me... Thanks a lot...

Hello,
I am currently having trouble with my Windows Vista home Premium 32-bit computer. I am using a NETGEAR Wireless USB adapter for my internet and a few thing's have seemed to go wrong.

First of all, the Network logo that normaly appears in the task bar has gone missing. When you right click>Properties and then try to tick Network, the grey tick box has been locked, so you can not select it.

Secondly, When I go to Network and Sharing center it come's up The Page Failed To Load.

Also, sometime's when I log onto Vista it come's up C:\Windows\system32\WINBRAND.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contain's an error. I don't know if this is linked in some how.

I have no internet access on that computer, and that is the only computer I am able to use at my home so it is very annoying that I ahve not been able to find a fix for this some where.

I am alright with computer's but not to good with complicated stuff. But anything for a fix

I hope someone could help me out with this problem,
Mackenzie.

When the Toshiba screen load, you should receive a prompt - F2 for setup, F12 for a boot menu.. From the boot menu, you would select your Optical drive. On some models, I think you Press C to boot to the Optical drive. Then watch the screen, as you may have to press another key to confirm booting to the Optical drive. If that fails, change the boot order to the Optical drive first, then after you get the OS loaded, change it back at the next reboot.Edit: I just found this with a Google Search: https://support.toshiba.com/support.... message edited by beachyhbt

My son has a VAIO laptop (about 1 yr old). Recently, he was unable to load windows - the self help fixer can't fix the problem and we can't load safe mode either. I can get to the page where you have options including safe mode but it will not load. I did get into system restore but it can't restore to an earlier point.

The error msg reads: System restore failed to extract the file D:\Windows\assembly\GAC_MSIL\ehiExtens\6.1.0.0_31bf3856ad364e35\ehiExten from the restore point. The restore point was damaged and deleted during the restore. I did try several restores from different dates but no avail.

I called Sony and they said to do a system restore - duh ? I explained that I did and then they said to do a system recovery (but my son has not backed up files so don't want to destroy them). Lesson learned !

Anyway, anyone have an answer without destroying his files and pictures, etc. I have an external hard drive but don't know how to get the data off his laptop without being able to get into windows.

I am not very literate at this - probably dangerous.

Please help and THANK YOU VERY MUCH !
Dave

It was working just fine on Saturday and then it just stopped loading the OS
When you turn it on it only goes as far as the HP logo page then it just goes black, no mouse no windows and last night it just turned off

Cannot get inot safe mode, or any mode for that matter!

I tried to repair the drive- and it said it repaired it- but nothing

I ran the windows cd it came with- I tried to repair the windows that it said it found- it said it successfully repaired it- but I still cannot load

Then I formatted the drive- said it was successful and setup said it needed to restart to begin the installation of windows- when it restarted - same thing, nothing. done this twice

Any advice- please! I'm ready to through it out the window!

I had a similiar prob with a Compaq laptop with a Seagate 30 meg. I got around it by partitioning the drive into two partitions. One ten meg and a 20 Meg. I did this because Xp refused to partition the whole 30 megs. It then loaded perfectly.

I am trying to fix a friend's laptop. An Acer 5610-4648 - Vista Home Premium. He could not boot it up. It would start, then say"could not load windows, do you want to repair?" You answer yes and it goes into the same cycle.. start up, repair? etc.

I tried booting into safe mode and the same cycle would happen.

Using the FN F10 I was able to restore the OS. I did all the Windows updates and thought we were done. He took it home, said he was trying to update his anti-virus and the same thing happened again. Anti-Virus is System Suite 9

So we are back to square one - I have again restored using FN 10 for the Acer

It won't even start in safe mode, it just keeps looping to the safe mode start page.

Hi everyone! This is my first time at TechSpot but it looks like it is a very knowledgable community so I'm hoping you can suggest a possible solution.

The HDD on my wife's laptop has stopped working with no warning, leaving business critical data stranded. I would be grateful for any advice on how to fix this if possible. Here is exactly what happened as far as we can remember (please excuse any silly terminology - we are not too technical):

-laptop was running on the battery, my wife left it on too long and the battery ran out

-she plugged it into the mains to recharge and it started again, she continued working until she had to take a long telephone call

-on returning to computer she found it was frozen and she could not start programmes, switch off, reboot, etc in normal way. In the end she turned it off by removing the battery and replacing it (an old trick from an IT guy in a company she used to work for)

-when she tried to restart she got an error before the OS started to load saying (something like) there was a problem starting Windows (or stopping an earlier session) and giving her the options to start again normally or in Safe Mode, go to the command prompt, etc.

-she tried normal start but it did not work ? it brought up the dotted progress bar which took forever to complete but then just came back to the original error screen

-when I got home I tried the Safe Mode option and it looked like it was doing something ? it came up wi... Read more

A:HDD on laptop has failed, will not load Windows

Instead of ripping out the battery, you shoult turn off the laptop using the power button. Hold it for 10 seconds.

Let's go step by step here.
First, you should make sure it is the hard drive that is bad and nothing else like the laptop or the filesystem or whatever. Ideally you would take it out of the laptop and attach it to another computer (desktop (with an adapter) or laptop). Then test the hard drive with the diagnostics utility from the drive manufacturer.

How much and what kind of data do you need to restore? If the drive is in a very bad shape, then you are not going to get everything back and it is likely that you will be able to recover only individual files or files of certain type.

Hi I hope someone can help, not sure if I've posted this in the right place...

I've just bought a new laptop with Windows 8 OS (not sure if that's relevant or not) and I can't load certain websites - eg. Barclays Bank and sites such as Facebook are quite slow. My other laptop on the same internet connection doesn't have a problem and our internet speed in general is very good. It's the same with FF and IE. I assume it's something to do with settings but despite extensive googling I can't work it out. Can someone point me in the right direction as to how to fix it?

Many thanks

A:New Laptop on Windows 8 Won't load certain sites

The laptop may have a free trial security program pre-installed. Check that first because I find some AV programs can slow things down considerably. Windows 8.1 is said to be very secure on its own.

Hi. I am currently trying to help a friend with his laptop as he was having trouble with it starting up. It is an emachines E732 with windows 7 (not sure which service pack) and was running fine up until a couple of weeks back. It started running quite slow for a little while then one day wouldn't start up properly. It says that the computer was unable to start and tries start up repair. This fails and in the diagnosis details lists this as the problem:

"Root cause found:

Unspecified changes to system configuration might have caused the problem.

Repair action: System files integrity check and repair
Result: Failed. Error code = 0x45d
Time taken = 484040 ms"

All other checks were completed successfully.

I have tried to start up and repair from disc which didn't work. It will log in if you start in safe mode but is very slow and crashes easily, especially if you try to do anything with AVG which is what he thought might be the cause of the problem as it was recently installed. If you try to open it or uninstall the program it crashes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Karl

My laptop will not load Windows XP. When Windows XP tries to load, it says that a system file is corrupted or missing...which I suspect is a virus. It then says to restart and put in the Setup disc and press r for repairs, and then the laptop restarts whenever you press any button. My problem is that the DVD drive on my laptop is dead so there is no way I can do this. I'm not sure where to post this, but I will start here. I had a friend bring me a Toshiba Satellite L505 that had windows 7 on it. He had a registry cleaner on it that he couldn't remove and it had frozin up the computer. I forgot the name of it now, but it started with U, I think. I have been working with this a week already and still can't get windows to re-load. I kept geting error messages and I called a friend that works on computers. He told me to connect it to my computer and get the itunes and photos off and then format the drive, which I did. When I boot the windows 7 disk it will go to the EULA and then hang up and not let me go further. Once I got to the place where it asked where I wanted to install and then no further. Just to see what would happen I tried to install windows xp from an old copy I have and after it loads files I get the BSOD. Can anyone give me some ideas of what to do now. Thanks for any help. The hard drive is a hitachi.

Earlier today, I was on my HP Pavilion N5495 laptop and it was working fine for the 3 - 4 hours that I was on it.

I started it back up a short time ago and it appeared to be loading normally. The Windows XP logo screen with the blue scrolling bar appeared, then it blacked out and remained blacked out without loading Windows.

Normally, it'll black out for about 15 seconds before the mouse arrow appears and Windows loads, but after waiting about 10 minutes, it remained blacked out.

I restarted it in safe mode and did a system restore back to the 16th. The restore was successful and the computer restarted. The same thing happened.

I restarted it in safe mode a second time and reinstalled the Intel video drivers, then rebooted. Again, the same thing happened.

I'm dumbfounded as to what the problem is.

A new hard drive was installed about 2 weeks ago, so I'm pretty sure that's not the problem.

Howdy there rebus and WELCOME TO TEAM TSG !!!

I don't know how much that I can help you ( at least this will give you a bump up ) but have you tried to make the first boot device in the BIOS, the Floppy or CD-ROM, then put in the CD-ROM drive and try to boot from the CD ??

Or...

If you have the BOOT Floppy that came with the laptop, try coping the entire contents of it to the C:\, then swap out the floppy for the CD-ROM, put the W98 Cd in the CD-ROM, and after the laptop boots and you get a C:\ prompt, try typing either...

A:\setup, or D:\setup,

Or A:\win98\setup, or D:\win98\setup...

And please remember, this all depends on how IBM has set up the Autoexec.bat and Config.sys files on the boot floppy, if you can please post the contents of these files...

I have an Averatec laptop that was working just fine until I went to use it this morning. I have only had the laptop for less than a month and it was refurbished.
When I turn it on now it goes to the windows start up page. I have tried the last good known point and normal. It goes to the black screen with the windows xp on it for a few seconds then it stops and goes back to the start up page.
I don't know anything about any anti-virus protection on it. It did have Phoenix Recovery on it, but the trial period for that had just ended.
What can I do? I cannot use it as it is now and am posting on a different computer. Should I go buy some virus protector? Am I too late? Please help! And thanks in advance for any advice.

A:Laptop Goes To Windows Start Up Page

Why do you think it might be malware related? Did you have other symptoms before this issue arose?

Do you have the recovery disks? (Operating System)

Can you boot into safe mode or to a command prompt?

Do you see a blue screen flash before it reboots?

How far into the booting process does the computer go before it reboots? For instance, do you see the Windows logo at any point?

The answers to the questions above will take us pretty far down the road to knowing how to proceed.

My laptop is an MSI GE60 2OE. I have had this laptop for less than a year.
Here is my dilemma, it's kind of long because a lot has happened.
A week ago, I had windows 8. My laptop froze for no reason, I restarted it, and after that, my disk usage was at 100% every day when I turned it on.
And because of this, the next day my laptop would enter a black screen whenever I started it up after the loading screen. For some reason, no solutions worked and I couldn't system restore or refresh. So I messed around in BIOS and somehow I was able to do a system refresh. I was able to access my files and my computer. HOWEVER, my laptop kept freezing.
I then tried a reset with recovery disks. My laptop would freeze for about 15 minutes with 100% disk and then work as normally. However, every time I restarted my computer it would freeze. Thinking this was a windows 8 problem, I tried every solution like disabling super fetcher, messing with Regedit, windows defender, redownloading loading my WLAN driver, and changing my battery performance. All of which did not work.
So I tried installing windows 7. My computer did not freeze for a while, okay maybe for 2 hours. Then, after I downloaded all my drivers and I loaded my files onto my computer, it began to freeze again. The freezing gets worse every time I restart it. It still freezes even after 20 minutes. I am running cnhdsk right now.

I don't know if this is a windows 7/8 problem, or a hardware issue. What should I do?

A:Laptop freezes on windows 7 and 8.1

Hello and welcome praise mate could be either or malware.

Now we shall have to look at the model specs as there are no specs and it is very useful to have those up front mate as it saves us chasing down them by searching the machine model.
System Info - See Your System Specs

However can you boot into safe mode?? if so then that chkdsk is best run with the /f and even the
/r switches.
see Disk Check

Also while the machine still running can you run Speccy and let us know the temps please.

Speccy - Download (from piriform)

In the meantime I shall chase down that machine.

Hello guys, I´m new in this forum and I´m trying to get some help for my laptop , let me try to explain the problem:

The laptop is a
HP Pavilion Entertainment
Core 2 quad 2.00GHZ
6GB Ram
Windows Vista Business
500GB HD & 433GB free space

I turn on the laptop and everything goes well, it gets to windows, and load everything perfect, but SOMETIMES after 15 to 30 seconds, when I try to do anything (Like opening a folder, open Internet Explorer, or open a program like word 207 or excell) the laptop just freezes, it opens the file/program I want to open but it stays loading it, and it stays like that forever! I let the laptop sometimes for 1 hour to 2 hours and stays the same. I can´t do nothing, no CTRL+ALT+SUPR, because it does nothing, just freezes loading the file/program I want to open. I have to shut down the laptop, and turn it on again.

But this happens sometimes, not every time i turn it on, sometimes i can work perfectly and it's smooth with no problem at all.

I had a virus 1 week ago, and I deleted it with anti-spyware and with Norton Internet Security. What I did is that I took my laptops hard drive out, and put it in a pc and deleted the virus with the pc. The laptop for some reason (have KASPERSKY ANTIVIRUS), but it didnt find any virus at all.

Anyway, I hope someone can help me out, I leave you guys here the HIJACKTHIS log file to see if anyone can help me out.

Vista Home Basic SP2. When I try to run Windows update all I get is a blank page that says "The page failed to load". I've looked all around and have found a lot of people with the same or a similar problem but no firm solutions. I haven't used it in maybe a week and it's worked fine up till now. There have been no real changes since I used it last. Does anyone have a clue?

Try advices from this link:You cannot install some updates or programs
reset IE Internet Explorer - Reset

Uninstall non-system firewall,antivirus,antispyware

Reset WU with "aggressive mode" How do I reset Windows Update components?

Viruses also cancause this.Because scanning on allive system is not credible because many viruses can hide before antivirus I suggest use LiveCD with antivirus for example this one Dr.Web LiveCD is a software product that features a standard, Dr.Web scanner ,burn boot it and scan.
If nothing help find WindowsUpdate.log file in C:\Windows pack it and attache to post.

Whenever I power on my laptop, the screen takes like 20 miuntes or more to turn on and show the windows Logo and starts booting, after that, the laptop runs normally. I'm not sure if this is related, but the laptop has two graphics cards, Intel and AMD. The Amd Radeon graphics card was disabled sometime ago and the laptop is only running on the Intel card. As far as I remember, the amd had some problems with the resolution so we had to turn it off. Any idea what is causing this?

A:Laptop takes 20 minutes to load windows

BasharFaris That long a delay implies that the hard drive controller is encountering failing sectors. Instead of reading hundres of sectors a second, when the controller encounters a failing sector, it rereads the same sector, over and over hundreds of times, until it times out. With it probably spending only 15 minutes doing this, the good news is that you probably have only a few bad sectors, so the drive is still usable. You should run CHKDSK on your drive to check it out.To do that, in the Start menu, right-click on Computer and select Open. Then, right-click on the C drive and select properties. Then, Tools, and then Error checking. It will ask you to reboot to do the check (as it can't do that while Windows is running). When it reboots, it will run the CHKDSK utility. See if it reports finding any bad sectors. If it does, it should mark them as bad, and after that, your PC should boot much faster. But if the PC continues to boot very slowly, that implies you have a failing drive that needs to be replaced.Good Luck

After I enter my password for Windows the screen goes black. I've tried everything I could find on the forums to resolve this problem with no success. Here are some of the things I did: 1) Turned the power button off holding it down for 15 seconds. Immediately after powering it up I pressed the F11 button repeatedly. I got a Recovery message on a light blue screen. It said the following between the stars lines *************** Your PC needs to be repaired A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed. Eror code: 0xc0000225 You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media (like a DIsc or USB device) If you don't have these contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer Press ENTER to try againPress F8 for Startup SettingsPress Esc for UEFI Firmware settings ************************************ I am my own system administrator. I did everything with no success. I contacted HP. The total cost for a year of unlimited support was $214, paid with an initial fee of $49.99 and a monthly fee of $14.99. Early cancellation was $70. A one time support fee was $99. None of these appealed to me as the laptop cost me $199 new. It would be cheaper to throw this away and get a new one. Can someone tell me if there is an alternative process to solve my problem. If not I will ditch this computer and pay more for a refurbished Mac. I am sending this report using my trusty circa 2007 MacBook Pro.... Read more

Hi, if you did not create a recovery USB, you can order one from HP. This is Windows 8.1 not Windows 10? You might also try booting into safe mode described here.

Hello tech friends,
I am trouble shooting an older eMachine laptop 5312. While being used by an inexperienced teenager, the PC stopped being able to boot up. It can run Ubuntu on a CD with no problem, so I have moved all important docs off the hard drive. However, when I try to use the 3 recovery disks to restore Windows XP, the process is interrupted in the middle of the second disk, with an error message including the following:

KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR

Technical Information:

***STOP: 0x000007A (0xE11E9338, 0xC0000098, 0xBF8BE7FA, 0x19661860)

***win32k.sys - Address BF8BE7FA base at BF800000, Datestamp 3d6de5e5

Without Windows, I don't think I can use diagnostics like Sandra to narrow down the hardware problem(s). I have researched the error codes but no luck there. Are there diagnostics that run through Ubuntu? I ran the Ubuntu system test which did not show any problems. Is there anything more I can do? Many thanks for any suggestions.

A:Laptop Cant Get Passed The Windows Xp Load Screen

Sounds like the MBR is messed uphttp://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;314503You're going to need to buy/borrow an actual XP CD to run the fix, not Dell's recovery CDYou can try running their diagnostics application. I think you press the F10 key, not sure. You'll have to look it up
