[SOLVED] Computer trouble

Q: [SOLVED] Computer trouble

Well I obviously have a problem. Whenever i try and log into my xp account i get a bsod. The only info i get on the "error" is:

stop: 0x00000008E (0xC0000005, 0x80035A9D, 0x00000000)

Now to give more info i think might be helpful. I recently contracted antivirus 09. I thought i had killed it but a last week super anti spyware found a trace of it and deleted it. (I followed basic steps the forum instructs) So i put that out on the table. Lately my internet (the past 2 days) has not been working. It works one morning but after i put it in sleep mode for 8 hours and come home the internet no longer works. So i looked online to see if i could dig up anything. My ie was displaying a address that had megaclick (something like that, it stopped) in it instead of the default google. That from my research on the internet was from the megaupload manager. So i thought to get rid of it. After i uninstalled it i booted in safe mode to run my various scans. I have McAfee, Avg8, super anti spyware, and Malwarebytes anti malware. Since my tango with antivirus 09 my avg has no longer worked.

(I stupidly uninstalled it when it would no longer update during my time with antivirus 09 so i uninstalled and reinstalled it and that's when it no longer worked. It would start a scan and then it would bsod with the error: no_page_error something. i can get the error if it would help. My friend said that the data in avg was corrupted giving me the error. The error according to him was from avg being corrupt and the info it need to scan wasn't there or something.)

So i ran the 4 scans. (had to restart due to avg) I ran the other 3 and they came up with nothing. So i restarted and went to my normal account. The internet worked so i thought my problem was done. When i got home today after school i booted up my comp (i had turned it off before i left) and to relax watched a movie online. An anime to be exact. And when i went to play the next episode my internet died. So i messed with the wires in the back of my comp unplugging them and replugging them. And nothing worked. So i though that i should try a system restore too a few days back when my internet was working. So when i tried to log in to my account it showed the wallpaper like it always does and boom bsod with teh above error. Well the thing is my comp works in safe mode, which is where im typing from now. So i'm assuming something that boots up with my normal account is the problem.

I have no idea what to do. Im thinking of getting my friend to reformat my comp but i want to save that as a last resort. So im stumped. Is there anything anyone can give advice on?

btw, my comp is a Dell XPS 400 with a core duo (penium D 2.80 ghz) with 3gb of ram a 227 gb hardrive, and a geforce 6800 graphics card. Also i have ie7, firefox 2, and am running xp media center edition with service pack 2. Please i am desperate for help... Also ide be happy to provide any other info i didn't list.

If there is an anti virus that is better that what i have could i get a recommendation?

My computer tower has been through a lot, and it's beginning to fall behind the standards of today's pcs. However, my PC has been running abnormally slow lately, and I'm not sure if it's because of the computer or an infection or some kind. It's never been this slow before. Avg found nothing.

This isn't really Software related, just really need an answer or two on why this is happening and if this has happened to anyone else.

Well my problem is that my computer freezes or restarts itself whenever it pleases. Usually when I have about 3-5 programs running my computer will just freeze, sometimes only one! Then I have to restart it manually, then about 3-4 hours later it will restart itself or freeze again. But this doesn't happen every 3-4 hours, sometimes it can be days before it will freeze/restart then I have to do the process of re-booting my computer again. I was talking to a friend about this, he knows a thing or two about computers. He says it's the lack of memory on my computer that once I have too many programs running at once the processor can take all that memory at once, then it will restart or freeze on it's own...

I've had this computer a little over 2 years now, and this started about late March of this year, before that, everything was running smoothly, no freezes or restarting.

If anyone has any feedback on this, feel free to reply, thanks.

It sounds like you added some software in March that may be causing this. Did you add new software in March?

Also do you run with a firewall and anti-virus?

Another thing do you keep your firewall, anti-virus and XP updated (I am assuming you are running with XP with System Pack 2 installed)?

Lastly, do you add a lot of new software and then remove them?

Hello, I recently posted because I had a virus on my computer but I ended up just reloading my xp computer instead of trying to have you help me remove the virus. But after I reloaded it, I realized that I can't find my motherboard installation disk. So I found the drivers online (the motherboard is a MSI 760 GM-P33) and I installed them but my computer is not working properly. If I look at that device manager, it shows yellow exclamation points on other devices and pci device (2 times) and video controller. I also can't seem to download anything at all and it's not picking up the windows updates so I can update it and when I try to search for them manually, it won't allow me to download them. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do? Thanks, Deanna

A:[SOLVED] trouble with computer after reloading

You should only download your drivers from the MSI download page for your motherboard. In the Device Manager, do you a setting for Network Adapters?
On an internet computer, go to MSI drivers page: MSI Global - Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Motherboard, Graphics and more, download the System & Chipset driver and install that first, if you don't have internet, save it to a USB Flash Drive and install it on the troubled computer.
Also download the Onboard LAN driver, and any other device drivers needed from the Device Manager, including the two Other drivers on the Download Page.

Hi,

For another computer, I have two maxtor harddrives connected via IDE to a P4P800-E Asus motherboard.

When booting up, the system goes through some check with something called "FastBuild" which I have never heard about. I think it may have something to do with having the two harddrives work together. This computer here was bought used so maybe the previous user customized the bios?

Anyway, if I try to reformat as usual, running the Win XP Pro Cd while booting up, and install as usual, the setup files load up fine. Then, when I hit enter (to setup Win XP), there's a 25 second delay where the bottom of the screen (grey area) says "Please Wait..." and then the screen loads up where it should show my partitions and allow me to choose which to install.

THere's no highlight bar - instead, it says
"Unknown Disk"
<this drive cannot be found>
and it says this twice - I'm assuming because I have two of these harddrives - both of which cannot be read.

So 'delete partition' doesn't work - so my only option is Enter = Install.

Then the following message comes up:

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer

THe problem seems to be caused by the following file: setupdd.sys

Hi everyone,

My name is Todd, and I'm a college student living on campus with a bit of a network problem.

Let me explain some things that focus on the problem I'm having. My college has network policies for any laptop or computer being used in the dorms. They have a system set up to "validate" your MAC address after a series of tasks (i.e. installing their version of McAfee VirusScan, updating your OS with patches and updates, etc.) all to ensure security.

I had my computer validated through their policy system. If any computer is not validated then it redirects the user to the registration page, disallowing any unvalidated computer from accessing any other website or URL.

My computer's been running fine since the first day, but just last night I lost the connection. Let me explain why. I brought another laptop from home (my Fujitsu S7010) and tried to get it registered and validated on the network. I used the ethernet connection in my room and when I expected it to redirect me to the registration page, it didn't. It was just stuck on "Acquiring Network Address" and didn't connect.

I gave up and tried my original working laptop, but that didn't work. For some reason, the network is "ignoring" any connection through my ethernet jack. I tried other ethernet jacks with my working laptop and it connects fine.

It seems like now whenever I try to use the ethernet jack in my room, I can't connect. Is there a way ... Read more

Hi everyone,

I just recently gained a job at an internet cafe called xxxxxxxx, in xxxxxxxxx, Colorado.

There is a computer here that has had some trouble and I can't quite figure it out.

The original problem is the computer would boot into windows and explorer would never start. I tried the same thing in safe mode, and it still would not run. So I ran a windows repair on the computer, by inserting a windows xp home cd, and selecting the repair option AFTER you choose to install windows to the hard drive.

During the install process it came up with a couple of error messages telling me the computer did not have administrator rights, so I couldn't install specific files. But it continued through and seemed to reinstall windows.

Now when I start the computer, it comes up to a blue screen then immediately restarts itself. And it continues to cycle itself through this loop.

Any suggestions?

Thank you so much,
Brandon

A:[SOLVED] Internet Cafe - Computer trouble

Hi Brandon.

First, congrats on your new job.

Anyway, access the boot menu like you would to boot into safe mode. But Disable automatic restart on system failure, and then boot into Windows. It should show a BSOD.

Post the entire contents of the error. you don't have to post the "A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer..." part, just the technical details.

Hi.

I was hoping to find some assistance with a problem.

I have a computer that I just installed Windows XP on and another that I just installed Vista Ultimate x64 on.

I'm unable to get the Windows XP computer to see the Vista Computer.

When I go to "My Network Places" on the XP computer and click the "View workgroup computers" link, I get the following error:

• Both computers are connected by wire to a Buffalo WZR2-G300N router named "Alexandra".
• I've set both of their Workgroup names to WORKGROUP.
• I've run the File and Printer sharing Wizard on the XP computer
• There are no third-party firewalls active on either computer
• Windows Firewall is disabled on both computers
• Both computers have the same username and password and I'm the Administrator on both.
• Both computers can ping each other with no problems.
• I've shared a folder on my XP computer
• All of the necessary Sharing and Discovery Buttons in Vista are Green (On)
• The Vista computer, when I view the map, shows the XP computer, see below:

Here's a picture of how the XP computer is setup on the network:

I'm at a loss as to what I can do to remedy this problem. I would appreciate any help that can be offered.

TIA!!

Hello,

I have a W2k computer that is having problems with spyware. I have attemted to clean it up a few times this morning but the problem continues to surface. The system is currently stand alone with no access to the Internet and some of the items in the HJT reappear, once I have cleaned it up, even without rebooting. I am wondering what I am missing, possibly a service?

I rebooted the system and gathered fresh log files using HJT and getservice, the getservice log is attached to this message and the HJT log follows. Once the system was rebooted and the logs were gathered, it was left alone.

Hello from Maine,

I am running XP SP3 on my computer. My friend's laptop's Vista installation was all messed up with viruses and what-not.

I pulled the drive and connected it to my computer via USB. But I am having trouble going into the "my documents" folder to backup the files :

E:\Users\Zombie\My Documents

When I try to go there it says "...refers to a location that is unavailable..." and I thought I fixed the ownership wiyth the security tab but I guess I did not do it right.

Can you tell me how to just make everything viewable ?

I wish there was a hack to just strip all folder properties from an entire drive so everything would be viewable.

Thanks,
Craig

I'm running Windows XP with SP2 on my Toshiba Satellite A55-1064. I've had it for about a year and three months. I previously had to restore it back to its factory settings in about January or February of this year. Since then, I've been consistent about running Ad-Aware, Virus Scan (using McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0.0) and cleaning programs (DCleaner, ATF Cleaner, CCleaner) once a week. I try to defragment the drive once a month too. However, I don't have Automatic Updates activated since that's how my laptop got messed up the first time. And honestly, I haven't done it since.

Lately, I've been having trouble getting into "My Computer." It will load my folder, but when I try to use the "Back" or "Up" buttons, the screen goes entirely blank and the flashlight appears as Windows Explorer begins searching for files. I've let it go for several minutes, and it still continues searching. When I try to close it, I have to go through the Task Manager. When it finally closes, my desktop goes blank momentarily, and my taskbar reloads.

After this occurs, my taskbar no longer has the button that is visible when your options are set to hide inactive icons, even though my settings are set for that. Picture files (.jpg, .png, etc.) are inaccessible or take a very long while to load. I have my screen saver set to display images from a certain folder, and when it tries to start, I get a message saying that there are ... Read more

Hi, over the past few weeks I've been having trouble waking my computer from sleep or hibernation. Sometimes it starts up with no problem, but other times it has taken forever to start, restarted completely and then I get a message that it was, "Bug check code: 0000009F, Probably caused by: nt!MmTrimAllSystemPagableMemory Driver. The DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE bug check has a value of 0x0000009F. This bug check indicates that the driver is in an inconsistent or invalid power state.". Also, it's had trouble going into hibernation lately. I close the lid, the screen goes off but the computer just stays on indefinitely. It's quite annoying.

I haven't downloaded any new software recently, so I'm not sure what could be causing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know they're there but no matter how I enable "show hidden files" at the folder option, the folder does not show up.

I have an external harddisk. This is where the hidden folder vanishes. Other than that, I have 3 drives on my computer. The drive that contains the OS doesn't seem to have the problem. The other 2 drives display unknown characters at the "OPEN" & "EXPLORE" when I right click on any of them. The problem is that even when I have reformatted the computer, the problem does not go away. What I am supposed to do ? I have turned off the external harddisk thinking that it might have been some virus in there or something. Please, I need help. This is getting really out of hand. Thank you

A:Computer In Big Trouble

Oh, I left out something.

I actually have norton antivirus which comes with the computer's installation disk. However, it does not work. Everytime I double click, nothing happens. I never thought it would be that serious.

Hello,

I have been having some computer issues, with my system running very slow and some mouse delay where if I try to push a link it would actually take a few seconds before the mouse can highlight that link. (I hope I am explaining this correctly).

So I run a super anti spyware scan and deleted some things, but when I ran my malewarebytes scan I get like 12 infections. I delete those, then I run TDSSKiller and nothing comes up, so I get this brilliant idea to run Combofix. I had this file for some time, and when I tried to run it it prompted me to update, and add restore point. After I run combofix, I noticed that my sytem is running much better, but I have some files missing. Firefox icon is not on my desktop, but I can still access firefox by using a HTML doc that's on my desktop. I have no sound now, and I do not have a start menu, or the bar connected to the start menu (Where the clock is etc.) I also cannot access internet explorer from my desktop but like I said I can still access firefox, through my html doc.

I really need some help getting some of my files back, but I also want to fight this infection the right way. With the right instructions, because my knowledge is limited in this area.

Here is the combofix report and after this I will post the combofix quarantine.

Thanks for looking into this.

My Mothers community family computer has had it from what iv been told so far...

Im starting this thread in preparation for tomorrows adventure even tho i do not have this computer in my will yet.

One of my friends had a look at it ,he is a linux guy and im not sure he's up to date with windows any more. We had talked over the phone as he told me the OS is done for ,needs linux ,didn't get as much info as id like to. This computer has been unprotected for some time due to me not being there to fix everything.

From what iv been told so far it won't run any windows commands with out virus popups from a impostor virus program , supposedly they can even get it to turn on at times.

I never let my computer get viruses so i really wouldn't know how to go about this ,i need to know how to kill all these resource eating processes so i can install hijackthis ,Malwarebytes or superantispyware and install a good AV.

If i could get some pointers on how to reboot the computer to run minimal processes so i can download software to clean this up it would greatly help.

hello all, im looking for some help. recently my laptop has started playing random audio that sounds like pop up ads while internet explorer isnt open. many norton antivirus and spy sweeper scans later the problem persists. both norton and spy sweeper are current and updated daily, scan twice weekly. sometimes task manager shows 2 processes for IE when im only running it once. if i end both processes and reopen IE the ghost audio stops for awhile. spy sweepers internet communication shield blocks things called SERVEDBY.TOPQUALITYADS.NET and ROTATOR.ITS.ADJUGGLER.COM every 20 minutes or so. norton says it blocks intrusions but they are usually low level which is normal. i ran trend micro housecall earlier today and it found some malware called trojan somethingoranother and removed it. when i rebooted norton found a high risk intrusion called HTTP Malicious Toolkit Variant Activity. all of these problems started after a music downloading bender (illegal type)about a week ago. any help will be much appreciated. here is my hijackthis log:

EDIT: id like to add that im on what could be an iffy network, i dont know if this could be causing problems.

I started noticing there was a problem when it would take about 3 full minutes for my internet explorer to launch. I have a pretty good computer and the fastest internet at&t offers, and the web browsing isn't slow, but bringing up the initial page is. Also, I can't read emails that come up in a different screen. Infact, any sort of link that will open a new window does not work for me anymore. I have no idea whats happening!! Help!!

Hey Everyone,

I'm having a bit of computer trouble. My friend bought me an HP Pavillon g7 laptop for a gift but she didn't buy insurance for it (She didn't have the money for it) so its has the one year limited warrenty.

Well it was working awesome since I turned it on and set it up. But a few days ago it went all crazy.

Here's what happened it installed an update I believe Bios and an windows update and now when it restarts it freezes at the start up window so I will have to turn it off and re-turn it back on. After that it will go to the window where the ''Start up Scan'' is and will take a while to do the scan and then finally I can get on my laptop. It does this everytime the other night thought it made me do a system restore to the point where I had to fill the registy out again.

Does anyone know what's going on with this computer?

Also it has gotten the blue screen of death once.

I had my friend look at it and he let the updates update themselves and all the scans scan but its still doing it.

A:Computer Trouble

Really no one will help me out?

I am using Windows XP professional and have recently have encountered several problems. About a month ago I started having problems with Outlook (which I use for e-mail). I was having e-mail message windows freeze on me (I would reply to an e-mail and the message window would freeze, not allowing me to close or send the message). This problem has persisted sporadically over the past month.

Then just last night, my display's resolution somehow was reset to the lowest color quality (4 bit). I attempted to change it back, but the drop down menu under Display Properties only gave me the one option - 4 bit. What could have caused this and how can I restore the higher resolution setting?

I use Norton AntiVirus software w/the latest updates, and have scanned my system - no viruses are present.

Any help would be appreciated!

My HJT file is below - my computer homepage has been overtaken, and my favorites folder keeps getting populated with unwanted links. In the last couple days my computer has been reacting VERY SLOWLY, and has been freezing on webpages too. I had recently downloaded LIMEWIRE a few weeks ago, and just uninstalled it (via ADD/REMOVE - but I don't know if that really got rid of it).

Also, in the ADD/REMOVE program area there are a bunch of programs listed that I obviously never installed (i.e. - MY SEARCH BAR, 1-800 ASSISTANT). When I try to get rid of them, my computer freezes, I shut it down, go back in and they're still there.

Please, Please help me get my computer back to normal. I appreciate it greatly. Happy Holidays.

Ok so this is very different, I have never really seen this before.

My computer has a very small, and random problem. It is not really in one spot, but several. I'll start with the obvious. Some things that are downloaded get corrupt. For example, I downloaded Mozilla FireFox, and the setup was corrupt. I deleted, and re-downloaded, and it was fine. Same has happened for other things. Most games work for only a short while before they crash, and this also goes for games on web browsers, that use Java and Shockwave. Java will work for some time, and it is always random when it crashes, no pattern at all. There is also no error message under the events thing when anything crashes.

For the hardware errors, the BSOD does occur, but again completely randomly. And also, sometimes when I shut down (start, shut down) and it does shut down normally, but then sometimes it starts back up as I'm walking away. Nothing beeps, nothing sounds out of place.

I have reinstalled the OS several times, and even tried different cds. Everything is legit, so there are no problems with someone messing with the OS before downloading it. I have also done hard drive tests, memory tests, and have tried a different hard drive. Same problems happen.

Anyone who could help, help would be greatly appreciated.

I was playing Unreal Tournament 2004 yesterday, and joined a game online. It automatically started downloading a map for the game for the game I joined and my computer just suddenly froze and I was unable to control alt delete or anything. I had to restart it multiple times and every time it would freeze. The desktop would freeze too. This is usually all within a minute of startup. Safe mode had some trouble as well, but finally was able to get it to work. I ended up doing system restore on it. Unfortunately that didn't seem to help.

Even since doing the restore, my computer has still been acting weird, and then today I decided to turn it off to clean all the dust out of it. Turned the computer on when I was done, and started freezing again. Sometimes IF i got to the desktop it would change resolutions back and forth and finally stay with one. It would sometimes freeze right at the POST and before the Windows XP screen, and sometimes there as well. Eventually I got it to stay running without freezing. Turned it off after saving everything just for the heck of it and the same thing happened a few more times. Also the monitor would sometimes even go into standby mode with just the blinking light.

I have done virus scans. I did a full one yesterday after the restore and it found nothing. I also ran Lavasoft's Ad-Aware and it didn't find anything critical, only temporary internet files and cookies I think, "pricacy objects". I also took a look at my HDD Health p... Read more

Hi there,

I am presently a student here, a Junior in the malware removal classes but I don't feel like I am ready to try and fix this on my own.

I am using my Daughters laptop as I did not want to go online with my own desktop.

Here are the details:and

Computer has been behaving strangely the last few days...IE freezing alot, having to close it & retstart IE constantly, computer lagging...etc...
I had run MBAM quick scan and it found nothing. This morning I was using it and that blue screen that advises Windows is shutting down to protect my data came up....I was going out for the afternoon so I just turned it off until I got home. Later, when I tried to restart, it started but none of my AV software started, no firewall either. I tried to start MBAM to do a full scan but the hourglass just stayed there and MBAM did not start...so I shut it down and came here for help.

Please help as I hate my Daughters laptop...she seems to be having an issue with typing, the cursor keeps jumping all over the place...took me 20 minutes to type this post.....grrrrrr...I will try to figure out why while I wait for a respons.

Thanks in advance...

I was on my computer which is a custom build. I was on youtube when I clicked on a random video and then my screen went blank because the monitor was not receiving anything my computer did tend to do that when clicking on programs and such but would usually come back on after a second but this time it did not, I waited a good ten minutes before attempting to turn it off by the button at the top but they did not do anything, Even force shutting it down wouldn't turn the computer off so I waited a further ten minutes before turning the computer off at the back, (I knew this was a bad idea but couldnt see another option) I then attempted to turn the computer back on but was greeted with the noise of my graphics card fan on full power constantly and the computer wouldnt make the beep of it booting and still no display going to my screen. I have tried taking the graphics card out and running on the stock one but i am still met with the same result. If anybody could give me a solution or just tell me what the non-functioning component is I'd be very grateful as i don't want to spend money on the computer for it not to be fixed.

Hello,

I need help fixing an issue. I play poker on my computer. I normally use two monitors. I'm having an issue with a software program and I believe I've isolated the problem to the 2nd monitor. I've completely disconnected the 2nd monitor from the computer. I've set the Display settings to only recognize the main monitor as seen below. The problem is, when I move sometime from my main monitor I'm still able to move it past the sides of my monitor.

Does anyone know how to change this setting? I want my computer to only recognize one monitor. So if I try to move a application around my computer screen it wont "fall off the edge of screen"

Thanks in advance for any help! Here are a few screen shots to illustrate the issue.

Hi gary There's no actual "fix" to that, this is the normal behavior of windows under Windows. You can move them off the screen as much as you want. You can't fix something that isn't broken so there's no solution to your problem. If you were to move a window out of the screen by mistake, you can do the following. Move your mouse over the program icon in the taskbar, then move the mouse over the window preview and right-click on it. From there, select Maximize and it'll maximize the window in your main screen. See the screenshot below (the options are in French I know, but this shows you where I want you to click):

Hi. I recently bought a computer off a friend, everything went fine for the first few days then I tried to play Minecraft. The computer was missing a driver, I figured this was no big deal so I downloaded a driver and started playing. After a few hours the computer froze and the sound stuttered, I waited a few minutes but it didn't look like it would stop so I turned the computer off and started playing again. It did the freezing/stuttering thing every few hours and I would have to turn it off and restart, I figured it was something wrong with the driver and I would get around to fixing it sometime when I wasn't with friends.

Last night the computer froze again, by now I was fairly used to it so I turned it off thinking I would be playing again within a minute or two, as the computer started up I got an error message about something called "ExpressGate" and an error about my CPU fan, I thought that was weird but since it was late at night I wasn't in the mood to start hunting around on google to try and fix it, when I tried to jump back on Minecraft it kept telling me that it "Couldn't connect to Minecraft.net" I thought this was weird since I was on skype with people who were playing it fine, I checked and I could get onto the website on my browser aswell. I figured I would take a break from Minecraft and go play something on Steam but as I started it up I got a message saying "Steam had to close, windows can look online for a so... Read more

ok i did a really stupid thing, i bought a compusa brand heatsink, it was copper and SAID it could handle up to 2 Ghz. Well i used a 1 ghz athalon tbird (not overclocked). I was in bios, and i was watching the temp and it rapidly shot up to 130 and i hurried up and powered down. now when i turn it on i hear all the components running, but the video card fan turns on, spins for a while, then turns off. im thinking the motherboard overheated and blew a few circuits, does anyone agree? anyway, if there is any help i would appriciate it!

A:bad bad bad computer trouble

Sounds like a good guess. Nothing comes up at all? Does the bootup screen appear? Can you still access the bios? Ya know, in your haste, removing the fan and installing another, you could have simply unplugged something or something came loose from a socket, like the video card. Recheck your connections and your card seats.

I tried hooking up the monitor to my old computer, I got the same error but then it worked.

I don't know understand why it won't work on my new PC but works on my older one. Does anyone here have any idea why?

Check cable signal indicates your monitor is not getting a signal, obviously, but we know its capable of receiving one because it works on your old system. So I would go to the next culprit, the video card in your new system. It is possible for internal components to get rattled during shipping, so I would open up the side of your case and check to see the video card is properly secured in its slot. A couple additional questions:
1. Is the new computer making any post beeps during startup. Can you see any fans spinning even though your monitor is not getting a signal?
2. Does your monitor use DVI adapters? Or are you using some kind of VGA to DVI adapters?
3. What kind of adapters does your old system use on its video card?

Hello at the moment i was trying to restart my computer and everytime i tried to restart it to factory settings i would get a blue screen with this pop up that said wdf_violation so i looked up different possible ways to reset my computer. i tried doing safe mode nothing and then i seen one that said to hard reset holding down the power button. Just to clarify before i tried the holding down power button my computer was working fine it turned on and everything i wanted to reset my computer to factory because it was starting to get slower after i upgraded to windows 10 i thought it was a temporary lag thing but it kept going so i wanted to reset but i couldnt reset it because of the blue screen pop up saying wdf_violation. anyways after i hold down the power button i hold it for 10 seconds like it said to hard reset and soon after it turned off and i turned it back on and the power button turns on the light lights up i hear the fan but the screen remains black. there no LED light the mouse turns on the keyboard remains off and the monitor is still black screen everything seems to be running well but no display on my monitor i dont see my log in screen where i type my password to log into my account either just a black screen and i cant get out of that is there anything i can do to fix this?i really appreciate the help thank you.

Right, got a new computer, built it myself, everything is recognised correctly in the bios and the self checks, system is as follows:

Asus Crosshair motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Socket AM2
500GB SataII Hard drive
2X1GB DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 MEMORY
7900GS 256MB 256bit GDDR3 500MHz PCI-E Graphics Card
550w ATX PSU
DVD RW Drive

I am trying to install Windows XP 64x Pro on it, the drive is otherwise unused so blank, and un partitioned. When I power on the system either with the disk already in or putting it in afterwards I get "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER".

Since I am trying to boot from the CD and not from the HDD I changed the priorities to allow this in the BIOS, though it has made no difference what settings I have them on. The hard drive is recognised and is showing correctly as 500GB in the BIOS, with the sectors, speed etc updated automatically.

The drive clearly attempts to read the CD, but after about 15 seconds stops and shows the error. I tried reading the disk in my current computer, it works fine, I also tried using the CD drive from my computer in the new one, it again attempted to read but only showed the same error.

I connected my current hard drive (IDE not SATA) to the new computer, and it managed to boot windows, but obviously could not get past the login as it is set up for a different computer, and is a 32 bit version.

So currently I am thinking that its either a problem with the SATA on the motherboard, or a pro... Read more

A:Trouble with new computer

Hi

First of all try loading any other bootable cd in your new machine. If it boots and your cd is ok as you suggest there could be a drive/media incompatibility problem.

Otherwise these symptoms could lead to a lot of actual problems like:

-Bad drive
-Bad or insufficient PSU ( try removing anything than the basic stuff from your machine and leave only your 2 drives (HDD and optical, one module of RAM and graphics card) and see if that helps.
-Bad connection between drive and motherboard (reinstall the cable or replace it)

The drivers you mention for SATA and other devices are actually loaded during the first steps of windows installation so this can't be the problem in my opinion.

I have xp prefessional P4 2.8Gz 512 mb ram.

I just reinstalled windows, which I have done many times before. But this time after reinstalling windows the computer is not running properly. The computer restarts itself when windows is loading while boot up. I suspect the problem is being caused by one of those tune up utility programs ( I think it was Pc Tools) which I used to change up the boot up screen. And from then on I have been having this problem of computer restarting. So I reinstalled windows again and again but this problem is persisting. After 10 or 15 restarts windows loads up. But then after I restart again, it is back to the problem of restarts while booting up. Sometime I get the message " cant find or corrupt WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/CONFIG/SYSTEM , you can attempt to repair using the original xp cd by pressing r at startup" which I tried.

Another problem might be this time I used the full NTFS format of the drive, I usually use the ntfs (quick ) option .
But I am convinced that it is the changing of the boot screen that caused my problem, because when the windows loads up for the first time after reinstalling windows there is a message like " some registry thing was causing a problem but was recovered"

So some help please

A:Computer In Serious Trouble

If you have reinstalled the OS several time without any luck I would suspect that you have a problem with the hdd. Try downloading the manufacturer's diagnostic tool and run it to see what condition you hdd is in.

Iím having trouble with a new system I just built. The first problem is it appears to work and detects all of the drives but it wonít load Windows. It flashes a blue screen that I canít read for a split second then restarts and it does the same when I try to load safe mode. Maybe I should have uninstalled the video drivers before putting my HDD in the new system. I was able to load it with Knoppix and access my Windows files. I tried to load the Windows XP installer CD but it says itís inspecting my hardware then the screen goes blank. I thought it might be a video issue since the primary graphics adapter was set to PCI slot but I set it to PCIex and it didnít change anything.

The other problem is the processor is running a little hot at around 52c idle. I installed it with some thermal paste on the middle without spreading it just like the manual said to. The heatsink is barley touching the heatspreader on my RAM but I doubt thatís the problem. The case seems to have good airflow I put 1 120mm fan in the back and there are 2 80mm fans in the front and the PSU has 2 fans running. Could it be that the thermal paste just needs time to set in?

On startup, my computer freezes and doesn't unfreeze. I'm doing everything in Safe Mode right now. It doesn't freeze until the main screen actually shows up. I have no idea what could be wrong. I did some research and found out it could be drivers, but I updated them all via Device Manager and it still does it. Anyone have any ideas/ solutions?

A:Computer Trouble

Please do the following:
1 - Boot into Windows normal mode and let it freeze. Note the time on the clock and post that back in your next post.
2 - Reboot into Safe Mode and run as much of this stuff as you can: http://www.techsupportforum.com/f217...ns-452654.html
3 - Post that with your next post also

We'll use the time and date from your last attempt to get into Normal mode to search for error messages in the info from Step 3. Hopefully that'll help us locate the thing that's causing this.

I am really starting to lose patience with my ECS K7S5A motherboard. Everytime I turn on the computer, I have to go to BIOS for it to detect the hard drive. After that, I have a windows me startup disk in the floppy drive, and I want for the screen that shows the system specs. After that, it loads the boot record from the floppy disk and I wait for it to scan the PCI and other stuff. After that I get to the command line. I type FDISK and I wait for it to open.

Now this is the part that annoys me. Sometimes the computer will say "No fixed disks present" or other times, it will actually open. When it opens I select create Primary partition and then I wait for about 5 minutes. During those 5 minutes, I witness the program going back from 9% to 0% then up to 6% to 0%, and it kept on doing that until I lost my patience.

I can't figure out what the problem is and I am hoping that one of you guys will know. I have tried putting my EXISTING hard drive from the computer I am typing this thread from. I put it in and it does not detect it. I am really fed up with this. Please, help me...

Hey guys,
So bascially, im using a asus k8v se delux with amd 64 processor 2.0 3000+, im a hardcore gamer and i use raid harddrives 200 gb x 2 seagate barracuda. with 3 sticks ofr 512 ram.

So the current problem im having is , everytime I play games or start up windows recently, the screen would freeze and kinda stick there like a painting. Then i would restart my computer and i would get a blank screen saying System failed cpu test, then i would just restart again and it would boot up windows to my desktop and it would freeze. Now again I seek help if anyone has had this problem. I basically figured it might be my CPU over heating or my video card, so i removed my fan pulled the amd chip out and reapplied the paste ( forgot the name ) and put it back and made sure everything was snug, so i played for another 3 - 4 hours work up this morning and the same problem occured, my cpu and mobo temp was at 33 for mobo and 37C - 45 C for the amd, now I still am clueless of why my screen would lock up.

Now i called a friend told him the same issue he said to check for hardware failure, Check the ram and etc so ran thru all that testing each stick in each ram slot and the computer still locked up. So im just wondering if anyone out there has had this stupid issue with their asus. But im wondering how else i should check for stuff. So please HELP ME!

A:Trouble with my computer

well heres the problem, I Unhooked all my hard drives and etc, and only kept the CPU Mobo and PSU connected with my Vid card, and i ran in. I went in to bio's and basically tryed to fix all the settings me and friend pretty much did that the whole day. While in the bio's it pretty much froze, because i thought apparently it would be a virus or a harddrive issue. So we figured it had to be hardware, What exactly does a Memtest do ?

Ok here is what has been going on with my computer. First I started getting Blue screens about every 3 minutes and I had to reboot. So i went into the bios and looked to see if there was anything strange and I couldn't find anything, my friend told me to flash the bios to see if that would fix it. Then i started getting some error saying there was a problem with a windows system file and that I needed to restart. I did and then got stuck in a "boot loop" where it kept booting up to a screen asking me if i wanted to start normally, boot in safe mode, go to last known configuration, etc and no matter what i chose it would boot up to the same screen. So then I looked around online and it told me to try repairing windows using the xp disk, so I popped it in, booted from disk went through all the stuff to do a repair (not the command prompt one, the one where it just reinstalls windows and leaves all your files alone) and it gets to 100% and then i get a blue screen with a 0x00000050 error. I popped my hard drive into another computer and I was able to access all my files, but I could not access stuff under documents and settings for my account. I think it is because it is password protected. So I need help with either figuring out how to fix windows so i can boot up my hard drive or I need to know how to be able to access my user account on a different computer so i can just transfer all the files over to a different computer and try reformatting the hard drive tha... First question : How to fix Windows

That Stop error can be caused by faulty memory or errors on the disk.

a)Boot into the Recovery Console and run Chkdisk - Chkdsk /r See HERE

b)Try using each memory stick on it`s own,or swap out the memory.

Second question : How to access files.

Take ownership of the folder and the files.SeeHERE

I suggest you try the second answer first

This app happened after I tried to change my lock screen name and entered a code on win+r. I tried re entering my normal code thing but it says my acct doesn't exist on win+r even though I can login fine. Btw my lock screen name reset from what I changed it to when i logged in again. I'm scared because I just got this laptop and I'm afraid I've already ruined it. Please help!

Soltek SL-85erv2 w/ built in Snd

ATI Radeon 9700 PRO
Sound Blaster Audigy

I have it running Win XP Pro but for some reason it restarts a lot just out of the blue when i try to install stuff (not always the same stuff). I know it is not the ram as i checked it using another stick and the CPU temp does not exceed 45 C. Anyone have any clue why this is happening??

I'm having trouble after my computer has been on and running for a bit, my firefox pages will come up gray and not display anything. My Task manager won't pop up. I clicked on my computer at one point and it was asking me something about mapping the drive, I can't get programs to open, and the start menu programs won't open, and i just have to restart. Also, every time I start my computer it tells me that I dont have a firewall up, and that my norton corporate antivirus might be out of date, even though I keep going in to update it.

I recently had the red bio hazard background screen malware thing, but I ran everything in the world and got rid of it (or at least I think).

Oh, also when it was acting up I tried to use hijack this, and it said "out of memory"

Thanks in advance for any help,

A:Computer trouble

If you had two inches of water, you are probably just experiencing the final failure of your motherboard. Assuming this is a Tower, then two inches of your motherboard got wet. My bet is the system is dead and can't be revived. I have seen wet systems work well for a few days and then just die.

My computer won't turn on. I followed all of the procedures like reseating ram, unplugging all power cables, removing video and sound cards, etc. Even though the computer will won't turn on, the motherboard light is on. I was told that the motherboard was the problem and that I will have to buy a new one. My question is if the light on the motherboard lights up, but the computer won't turn on, could the problem be something other than the motherboard?

A:Computer trouble

My answer is : Yes,it could be the PSU.

The mobo led can still light up,even if the PSU has failed for all practical purposes.

I`m not saying it is the PSU,just that it`s a possibility.

There is a good thread HEREthat gives some tips on testing the PSU.

If you have tried removing all hardware components, that just leaves the mobo/processor and PSU.

an idea might be to make a boot disk from another computer,.......

You will need 4 blank formatted diskettes for this operation

Insert the Windows 2000 CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box type
drive:\bootdisk\makeboot.exe a:
and then press ENTER, where drive is the letter of your CD-ROM drive.
You will be prompted to insert the 4 diskettes, one at a time.
When all 4 diskettes are created you will get the message
"The setup boot disks have been created successfully".
you will need ur win2000 cd and key number.

gosh,....i'm assuming ur win2k ?....

anyway,....its a way around to load up , but i dont know what the problem is.

anybody else got an idea?

Hello, So for Christmas we bought our son a new gaming computer. 3 weeks later we cant get it out of Safe Mode, there is blue lines on the screen and it says Error 43, which I have found is a driver error. So I removed the driver and redownloaded but still nothing. So my husband was talking to a friends son who is tech savey and he said the trouble is windows 10. He said we should delete 10 and go back to 8.1. Does this sound okay. I have no problem doing it if it sounds like our Drivers are just not compatible with 10. Thanks for any input.

My Dell Latitude C810 laptop is, pretty much on the fritz. Everytime I turn it on, the Dell logo pops up, followed by the Windows XP screen with the blue bars indicating the OS is loading up. The problem is that the latter icons stay on the screen (there's no black screen or blue screen following the Windows XP splash screen).

Another issue is that I purchased a Windows Booting/Repair/Recovery disc from Shatir Solutions. It also came with a Recovery Console mechanism, which will ultimately restore this laptop. The problem is, I cannot get past the Password identification section (it asks for my Administrator password, which I've newly changed from BIOS).

Can anyone help me out with this? What do I have to do? I'm at my wits end!!

Note: I CANNOT BOOT TO SAFE MODE, SAFE MODE WITH COMMAND PROMPT, OR SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING. EVERYTIME I TRY, THE COMPUTER FREEZES UP.

Thank you in advance.

I am not sure but going by the 'NOTE', looks like an OS problem to me. I would have suggested to reinstall the OS but then I would like you to wait till someone more sensible looks into the issue.

Hello all
First I want to say thanks in advance for any help. I have seen this forum before and read many threads where nice people are simple helping eachother with issues.

First off, here are my system specs as I can remember:

Windows XP
D975XBX2 Intel board
Dual core at 2.4
Nvidia 8800GTX single card
Raptor 60GB 10000rpm drive
250GB for data
2gb Kingston ram
My problems started maybe a week ago. I am an avid user of Torrents, P2P, online games, etc etc and never had any issues. My comp was fast, no crashes etc.

Other than some basic adware, recently I got some form of Trojan(s). I downloaded every program I could find a good review on to see what I could do. AVG, Avira, a supposed program that is very good removing torrents.. Trojan Remover. All of it seemed to work and my computer began to run alot better.
Recently winlogon.exe started using most of my CPU. I went from 100fps in games to 15, internet became very slow, multiple errors all over the place.

I turn on my comp tonight and my anti virus starts popping up going nuts, which is usual at this point. Windows then crashes after 3mins. I power off, restart, and there is now a black screen that requests a password to login. I have no password (never have) so I left it blank and hit OK. Windows seems like it will go to desktop but instead all I can see is my background pic. with nothing else. Hitting CTRL ALT DEL makes a prompt pop-up saying my admin hasnt given my those rights.

Hi guys :)

Me and a buddy of mine are struggling with connecting to this computer we received from a company. At first we set the server (we call it a server, dont know if it really is though as its running win7 home premium) at his place, and everything seemed to work fine.

When we browsed to whatismyip.com we gained an ip adress, and when we browsed to that ip adress from our own computers and even smartphones, the control program running on the computer would pop up.

The problem is that we need to get the rig running at our university. First we tried just using the wireless network, but when it didnt work we figured that WIFI probably had too many restrictions on it... So we had the IT guys open the lan ports in our office, and now we have wired connections up and running on all PC's (including the server).

The problem is that we cant connect as we could at home. The IT guys hooked us up with two ports and a switch, on which we are running the setup. All computers have the same public IP's, but we dont know if that was the same case at home.

The following is a print screen of the ipconfig:
imgur: the simple image sharer

Hope you guys have some ideas as to what could be wrong, as we're not that clever when it comes to these kind of things.

Thanks in advance
Rasmus, denmark

EDIT: The ipconfig is from the server we're trying to connect to

A:Trouble connecting to computer using ip

Just to clarify this, are you trying to connect through a WAN , or a LAN connection.

If you are attempting to create a WAN connection, you need to check that the owner of the WAN (be it a ISP, or School) allows any type of 'server' to be passed across this connection.

If your running the computers across, a LAN connection try pinging each computer. Each computer needs to be on the same subnet (10.25.3.X)

Ok I will try my hardest here to explain my problem as I can so you can hopfully understand. I have a dell computer using Windows XP OS. I had a ton of crap on my computer and deleted a bunch of it and was ok with that for awhile. However I figured since I have had this computer for just over a year I thought I might do a hard drive format because I had no info or programs I really needed and recently (within the past month or so) My computer would just randomly crash. Couldn't figure it out for the life of me. I did a bunch of different virus and spyware scan with only one thing that would pop up. That was that the file "shell.dll" has been changed of altered. So I went and download the file and replaced it with the ond one and this did nothing for me. I still had full use of my computer at this time. However I got very annoyed by this so I popped in the cd to re-install windows that I got with my computer. I set up my bios so it boots from the cd. Everything seemed to be going fine. It went to the blue screen that says Windows Setup. IT's a blank blue screen basically but at the bottom of it there are a bunch of files that it says are loading. All the files seem to load fine and at the bottom it says "setup is starting windows." Without fail EVERY time my pc freezes at this point. and I get a blue screen error. It says " A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this ... Read more

A:Trouble Turning off Computer

Hi Earl

Did you fix it yet?

If not, do you have a Maxtor backup drive?
http://www.howtofixcomputers.com/for...ct-252812.html

If it's not that, it is likely to be a badly behaved program (hopefully not malware, though you should scan for that, just in case).

To look for more details, check in your Windows XP Event Viewer logs for the full error messages related to the shutdown error. This should provide clues as to the source of the problem. Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Event Viewer ... inspect the Application and System logs, in particular. To see full details for an event, double-click it.
_______________

Or, a quick-fix try:
Try Windows XP's System Restore feature (Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore). Use a restore point from before the trouble started.

Best of luck

There is no message indicating why the computer shuts down. I know there could be a lot of things that can cause this to happen. I'm pretty sure it's not a virus tho. I get to the motherboard screen and before i get to the windows xp loading screen, it gives me a black screen that allows you to pick from normal mode, safe mode, and the mode the computer ran last time if worked. I tried to run in safe mode, but it still shuts down.
I don't know whats wrong, any ideas as why it shuts itself down after a couple of seconds?
as to overheating problems, i can see that all my fans are spinning, and i dont think my computer overheats after just about 10 seconds to shut down.

Thanks

Hello framehvac

It sounds to me like there might be a problem with the cooling fan on the processor.
Is the fan securely fixed? Check that it has not become loose or totally detached. 20 seconds would be enough to cause problems if the fan was loose.

Okay i bought a compter about 2 months ago from ebay. I know now porbably not the smartest thing in the world to do. Anyway it is suppose to have all these really good things in it and run really well but it doesn't play sounds.

the specs of the comp are as follows

AMD 2600+ CPU: CPU Delivers plenty of power! The Blade case has front, rear and side lights. It also has temperature control that you can hook up if needed!!

120GIG HDD: WESTERN DIGITAL 7200RPM hard drive increases speed and reliablity

WINDOWS XP LOADED

FRONT USB CONNECTIONS : Located on the front side of the case to emilate hasels and stresses with big USB connections and reduces damage to USB items such as keyboards and cameras

GRAPHICS AND SOUND: Radeon 9600XT graphics card delivers extreme graphics! This card is still under warranty until 31/03/2008 paid $145. The motherboard has 8 channel High Definition sound that delivers quality sound.

GIGABYTE MOTHERBOARD: GIGABYTE K8 Triton motherboard was the most recommended motherboard in Australia!! It supports 64bit processors, AGP 8x and Serial ATA. This motherboard doesn't just have an unique design but does not compromise quality!!

it also has a 512Mb RAM in it

computer runs pretty slow aswell can anyone help?

A:Having trouble with new computer. No Sound =(

When going here to confirm drivers
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Search/Search.aspx?ClassID=2
I am given a few responses to GA-K8NS (your motherboard ) different versions
Can you confirm your motherboard or just go and dowload the driver yourself (for your operating system )

By the way this processor is now quite old around 2 Ghz

I have saved, as it automatically does, my book to wps in Microsoft Works Word Processor and need to also Save As to .doc. When I do that it moves the titles to different places on the pages and all the format gets rearranged.

Word doesn't seem to be able to provide help with this so I think perhaps it's my computer screwing things up.

I also cannot email my documents no matter how I save them. I used to a long time ago. Then suddenly it quit working and I never could find an answer to it.

Any help will be appreciated!

Thanks

A:Trouble saving wps to .doc and think it's the computer

Why not simply use Word instead of Works? If you want to e-mail uneditable documents to people, just print to PDF. If you don't have Adobe Acrobat or another app that allows you to do that, download qvPDF (http://sourceforge.net/projects/qvpdf/).

Hi there,

I don't know if anyone can help me. Over the last week or so I have been having real problems getting my computer up and running and I don't understand why. I have an HP Pavillion running Windows Vista Home Premium. Basically when I turn it on a variety of things might happen:
1. It will boot up and go right through to the desktop but then will freeze so I have to press the power button to reboot.
2. It will get to the blue HP start up screen and wont go any further.
3. Sometimes it will go to the black screen and ask if you want to go into safe mode or run system repair (or something like that), but then when you choose whatever option it just freezes again.
4. Once or twice I have seen a blue screen but it flashes up so quickly I dont have a chance to write down the error message, the first part is driver_irql_.

Basically it just keeps freezing at various different stages of start up and I have no idea why. Usually it eventually starts up after about 10 attempts at rebooting, but it is very frustrating and I don't want one day for it to not turn on at all.

I'm not a computer wizz, so if anyone has an idea of what is wrong and could talk me through trying to fix the problem I would be extremely grateful.

Many thanks

Emily

hello emily,

if you can get into windows. go to start>computer>C:>windows>minidumps, there will be the message(s) you don't have time to read.
If you can post the latest one here ,someone may be able to help you.. sounds like an out of date driver, or some bad RAM

and if you could post your whole hp pavillion # that would help later on also...

thanks, and good luck

try running the memory tool
start>all programs>administrative tools>memory diagnostics tool

I've got Windows XP with 250 GB storage and "90 percent free"... and am having dreadful woes today and hope someone can help by double-checking I haven't picked up something nasty.Computer worked perfectly until I went to my one site this morning and in the middle of browsing from page to page, the trouble started (am confident that I did not pick up anything nasty at Thoughtvent though! ).Problem:Computer slowed down and pages wouldn't load and then suddenly nothing responded (mouse worked) but pages wouldn't move.Tried restarting and it refused to shut down.Tried Ctrl & Alt & Delete and chose 'Shut Down'.It shut down and when restarted, while the desktop looked normal, no icons loaded.Tried manually shutting down and restarting 5 minutes later - same result.Took tower cover off and use air to clean - it actually restarted and icons loaded. (This time without tray icon for speakers, though)Used 'System Restore" ... worked for a few minutes normally and then same problems once again.(Shall keep on doing the above and hopefully it will keep things running at least for awhile).Steps taken so far:Ran AVG scanRan SpyBot Search and DestroyRan Rogue Remover(All above are up to date)Installed HiJack this (log below(I have a program called 'RegCleaner' but am hesitant to use it after hearing so many nightmare stories - eep!Know all of you are ever so busy but would truly appreciate your assistance...Thanks ever so much,MaraLogfile of Trend Micro Hijack... This computer had win98 SE, it kept dying, the screen would go black, but the computer was still running. Had to reboot several times before it would load windows again. It seemed it would do that when the computer was running a while. I checked the processor fan and it is working. I finally decided to reformat and load XP Exeutive. It loaded fine, but when I go to do windows updates, it freezes and gave me errors # OX8024402C and OX80072EE2. Then it will just die again, Screen goes black, nothing there, but you can hear the computer box still running. I don't know what else to check. I thought if I can get the windows updates it might fix whatever problem it had, but have not been able to do that. Can anybody help? Thanks

First, I am using a retail full version of Windows XP Pro. I just built a new computer but I wanted to keep my old HD. I have done this before, but this time it is not working. The computer will not boot into windows, I recieve an error message that windows\system32\config\system is currupt or missing. This is an expected error, the MS solution is to use windows repair from the first screen on the Windows setup. My problem is that when I try to use windows setup It loads all the files then says, "starting windows" and the computer restarts. I never get to the setup menu. I've tried tweaking my bios settings, but to no avail. If anyone could help I would be very greatful, system config follows.

MSI 670 Nforce 1066mhz FSB motherboard
Pentium 4 3.06ghz 533mhz FSB
1GB corsair 667mhz PC6400
200GB 7200RPM Seagate Barracuda (Using IED)

Ok guys and gals, I'm in big trouble here - any and all help would be great. I have an HP Pavilion 6730, it's been out of the box for about a month now. I have anyother thread going in All other Software (McAfee Virus Scan), however my troubles seem to be moving more toward Hardware. I'm running Windows 98SE. First of all here's a list of running programs: Tech Support Guy; Explorer; Rnaapp; Loadqm; Ramidle; Systray; Vsstal; Vshwin32; Webscanx; Hidserv.
Rnapp and Rundll32 would not respond this morning when I End Task? Last night I followed beach51's advice and did some serious maintenance. I started by deleting all *.tmp,~*.*.*.chk files, the windows temp files, temp internet files, internet history, and emptied the recycle bin. Then ran ScanDisk and attempted to run Defrag (before starting I close all running programs). Defrag gets to about 10% and then does nothing, it will not go any further. I tried 3 times each time it got to 10% and sat there for at least 20 minutes. I pause defrag and hit CTRL/ALR/DEL and Rundll32 was running?? I tried to re-boot this morning and got a message saying "the program is not responding" I finally got it to start shutting down and it just sat there say "Windows is shutting down" for a good 10 min. I had to hold the power button for 5 seconds to get it to turn off. When I turned it back on I noticed it said "System Bios Shadowed & Video Bios Shadowed" I mention that because I don... Read more

My other computer got some updates and shut itself off. I changed my routers IP During this time from my main computer and when I turned the other computer back on, it did not even recognize that the router is connected to it in the first place. I can no longer connect to it when I type the router IP in my browser, yet the green light off the cable port still shines.
