windows not starting right after installing new audio driver

Q: windows not starting right after installing new audio driver

I just installed the GameMuse DVD 5.1 driver to my Windows XP Pro because my sound wasn't working and now I can't get past the "Windows Is Starting Up" Screen. It will say video resolution not supported and then the only thing I can do is reboot.

This never happened before when I installed this driver, but it happened now after I installed and used Driver Genius Professional.

Please advise.

A: windows not starting right after installing new audio driver

Try these:

1. During startup, press F8 repeatedly (could be a different F-key, usually F8). If done right, you should come to a black screen with multiple selections, such as starting in safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, networking, etc. Select the "Start with last known good configuration" option and press enter. See if that helps.

2. In the event the above does not work, then do the same thing again and start in safe mode. If it allows you to do so, go into the device manager (right-click on "My Computer", properties, click the Device Manger button), select the device you installed the driver for, and roll-back the driver.

3. In the event neither of the above worked, do the same thing again, and start in safe mode. This time, try system restore. Try restoring to a point BEFORE you installed the driver.

Hello. I am having a problem with starting multiplayer. I tried finding a driver for my sound card, but I am out of luck. I have the ati high definition audio device. Thank you.

A:I am having a problem with starting multiplayer, but need audio driver

(This is assuming your using HDMI, click the accept box, then next and choose one of the download mirrors for ATI HDMI Audio Device in red)

Does the multiplayer game you try to run tell you that you need an audio driver installed?

The ATI high definition audio driver is from your VIDEO CARD. its not a seperate sound card or an onboard soundcard. So make sure your trying to get the right driver first.

I have just installed the audio driver for my motherboard, restarted the computer and it seems that driver doesn't do anything at all. I have the speaker icon in the tray bar with a red 'x' on it, and it says: "No Audio Output Device is installed". Why is that? I tried the driver that's on the motherboard CD and also the one from Realtek's website, and while they are different versions, the problem is identical.

Please advise.

I have a computer with external active speakers connected to the 3.5mm phone plug. I'm using win 7 32-bit and when I start my computer the speaker starts to make strange sounds, almost sounds like an old modem. I have disabled the start-up sound since I don't want that, the noise is there until I do anything with the sound driver, or so it seams. If I for example I play a sound or even mute/enable the cd volume the sound stops and don't come back until the next time the computer is started. I have had the computer on for a long time without doing anything and the sound don't stop until I do something with any sound or sound setting.

Additional things I have tried so far to fix the problem but not succeeded:
1. I have been into BIOS and the sound does not start in BIOS, it is when windows is starting the sound starts.
2. Re-installed driver
3. Tried to set the register DrvAzComIdlePowerState and a few more to 00 00 00 00.

A:When starting win 7 the speaker makes noise until audio driver is used

What kind of PC do you have? A Laptop or Desktop? If its a Desktop you should be connecting to the GREEN speaker jack.

Do you have the correct sound driver? In most cases the PC Vendor (or motherboard in the case of a home built) sound drivers are the preferred. Non-Vendor drivers, in many cases, either do not work or do not work correctly.

If you have the correct sound driver, go to the Device Manager and RIGHT click on the entry for your sound to highlight it and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT check the box to also uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and after Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. This will put the sound initialization in a different place in the sequence and may even put it on a different shared IRQ (Interrupt) and maybe fix it.

I've installed my pc, and as usually i install an audio driver. But, in the middle of installation my pc restarted and viewed bsod. But after that, my unknown audio device is not seen. And the audio didn't work. So, I installed the os again. It still didn't work. But, suddenly there's an unknown device driver popup and I inserted my cd driver. But, in the middle of installation it viewed BSoD and the audio driver lost again.
Here's something I got from dumpcheck :

I'm trying to install the audio driver for my father's computer. He has Windows XP and his motherboard is an Asrock P4I45G. I downloaded the driver from Asrock's website:
But now I'm lost. There is no installation wizard, just a zip file. And I have no idea what to do next. Can anyone help?

A:Solved: Installing an audio driver

I'm assuming it's the C-Media audio driver for XP, dated 01-16-2004, that you downloaded and saved.

Place the ZIP file by itself in a folder on the desktop. Right-click the file, then click "Extract Here" from the list that appears. Once the extraction process completes in a few seconds, a folder containing several files will appear. (Note: You can now delete the ZIP file). Double-clicking the "Setup.exe' file will start the install process. Once it's complete, reboot the computer.

(Just in case you need it for future reinstall, I would burn off the folder to a CD-R)

When I manually install audio driver for Realtek alc-888b/889 from the dvd came with motherboard, still windows says 'No sound card was found. No driver installed....'
I checked by running dxdiag.

I can't get the issue. Please help. Tnx.

A:Problem installing AUDIO DRIVER

Run the Windows Update before reinstalling driver.

Go to system manufacturer’s website and look for latest driver, Download - SAVE - right click and
RUN AS ADMIN. REBOOT after each driver installation.

Sound drivers often rollback so check the version after installation and the reboot to
see if the version you installed is there, if not repeat the install - reboot until it is. It can take
several tries depending on how many rollbacks it does.

Also Right Click Speaker near clock - Playback Devices - right click in the box area - check
Show disable and disconnected devices. Highlight speaker and on the lower Right click
Properties check settings for Device Usage enabled and so on. Also do same for Configure
on Lower Left of that box.

I'm running Windows XP SP2. I had absolutely no problems installing the audio driver from the disc that came with my motherboard the first time around. Unfortunately, I had to reformat and reinstall Windows because my harddrive was being recognized as disk "i" instead of "c" (causing alot of problems for me installing software). So now that problem has been solved, but I can't get the Realtek audio driver installed. A message pops up each time I try to install it which says: "Install Realtek HD audio driver failure". Could it be because I also installed "uaa bus driver - version I don't think that one was meant to be used with Windows XP SP2 (it's not listed as being one of the OS's that supports this driver). Of course, now I have no idea how to get rid of it, and a balloon pops up from the taskbar each time I turn on my computer saying "new hardware installed". I try to install it using the wizard, but it won't install. What's gone wrong?

Try a different version of drivers, hopefully more updated from the manufacturer's website.

I recently reformatted my PC and have had difficulty in installing audio drivers. My system is running Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 3.

My machine is using an Intel D955xbk motherboard. Other hardware info follows:

Genuine Intel CPU 3.20 GHz
2.00 GB of RAM
500 GB Western Digital SATA hard drive
MSI R4670 Graphics Card, 512 MB DDR 3

After reformatting, I installed the necessary drivers and updated windows to Service Pack 3. For the audio device, I used the AUD_allOS_D20001.0x_PV_IDTGUI_v105_Legacy driver from Intel's site. On the first run, the files extracted and the installer launched. It appeared to precede normally, until I received the message "Cannot copy file st322000.dll" Although I saw this file in the extracted folder, the installer kept producing this message until I exited. Afterwards, the Device Manager showed Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Legacy Video Capture Devices, Media Control Devices, Video Codecs, and Two identical entries with question marks and the title "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus." On my second attempt to install the audio drivers, I received a message saying "The hardware detected is not supported by this IDT software package. The installer will abort."

Anyone have a clue what's going on here?

Earlier today, Windows Update prompted me to install two items: KB3035583 (recommended) and "Realtek Semiconductor Corp. - Audio Device, Other hardware - Realtek High Definition Audio" (optional). I installed both items.

After rebooting, the audio coming from my speakers could barely be heard. Changing the Windows 7 speaker icon (on the taskbar) to 100% didn't help much. The Volume Mixer applet lists the speaker icon and application icons at 100%. The Sound applet lists the speakers properties' levels at 100%. My speakers are set at their normal level; i.e., unchanged. I notice a red speaker icon on the taskbar which wasn't there before; presumably, the Realtek installation added this.

Any suggestions on how to proceed? I'm not sure if there was any Realtek software present on my system beforehand--so I'm not sure if this software is new (to my PC) or an update. The detail dialog box for the Realtek software says it was released in December 2014; this is the first I've seen it.

man am I lost. Win XP Pro SP3 on HP DC7100 3Ghz P4, 762mb Ram, 80 gb seagate.

I had this system working perfectly until Documents & Settings got messed up and started making duplicates of user accounts. wiped the drive, reformatted the slow way. Loaded Windows XP Pro SP3, as before. When I went to HP's support page, I was mystified that the Audio Driver was not listed. Went on Chat support and inquited. They say the audio Codec is ADI 1981B and to go there and get driver. So I did that. no worky.
Caused BSOD/dump.

I removed the video card. Booted in normal mode and it BSOD'd again. Booted into Safe Mode and it came up. Checked the Device Manager and it shows Realtek AC'97 installed with driver loaded [for first time].
I did change the IRQ settings in between these two bootups.

The baffling thing is that it all worked swell previously. i don't even recall a hiccup of any kind in loading the various drivers.
some gremlin in my office sabotaging devices!

Do I need to go into the registry and remove every entry relating to audio devices? how?

A:Solved: BSOD installing ADI 1981B Audio Driver. it worked before.. why now?

Go back to the HP support page and scroll down the page to the driver listings. Find the section for "Driver - Chipset" (below the BIOS and Diagnostic listings). The link is titled "Intel Chipset Support for Microsoft Windows". When you find it, click the black "Download" button to the RIGHT, and the chipset driver pack will download to your system. Save it to the Desktop, or some other place where you can find it easily.

The file name is "SP28061.exe"; it is less than 6 MB, so it should download quickly. Find the file and double-click it; the installer will run and replace your existing motherboard chipset drivers. Next, REBOOT THE SYSTEM; do NOT avoid rebooting. Windows will need to reboot to finish deleting the old files and installing the new ones.

Once you get back to the Desktop, test your sound and check Device Manager for problems (yellow exclamation marks). If everything is working properly, you got a bit lucky. If not, reinstall the ADI 1981B drivers again, and REBOOT, so Windows can get everything in order again.

After that, your sound problem should be fixed; let us know how this turns out.

I have a laptop with Vista OS, and want to have Realtek HD Audio Driver installed. I downloaded one of the many Vista packages from the Realtek site, and restarted my computer. But I didn't see the Realtek driver icon at the bottom of my toolbar. I uninstalled my IDT audio driver (the default my laptop comes with when it's bought) because I was told by the person from which I first heard about Realtek it was getting in the way of Realtek working. So I uninstalled IDT, and now my speakers don't emit sound anymore. Just headphones. I looked for the Realtek icon, but still don't see it. I searched through google, and apparently I need DirectX 8. I downloaded 9 because it was listed as the version specifically for Vista. I reinstalled Realtek again, and again restarted my computer. I still don't see the icon. What did I do wrong? So this all first started happening a few months ago when I was updating my audio drivers. The update was doing its thing then it crashed for some reason, and I haven't been able to update it at all since then. Oddly enough though, my audio has always worked fine. That is until today, for no reason that I can see, my audio has stopped working all of a sudden. But even though I can't hear anything either through my headphones or monitor speakers, I can see the little audio fader thing moving when I have some audio playing.

What can I do to try and fix this problem? Oh, and I should also note, the image that I posted, I get that pop-up everytime I start my computer. And the following is what it shows when you click the Details button.

If the 'Audio' has been working fine lately, you may try performing a 'System Restore' to roll back 'corrupt software changes': System Restore
Note: Please create a 'Restore Point' before attempting the 'Restore': System Restore Point - Create

If the issue persists, you may remove 'Audio drivers' from 'Device Manager' and try installing fresh set of drivers.
- Click 'Start' > Type 'devmgmt.msc' (without quotations) in 'Search box > Tap 'Enter' > Locate and Expand 'Sound, Video & Game Controllers' category > Right click and uninstall the 'Realtek related' driver > Follow through with the uninstall > Allow 'Windows' to restart > 'Windows' will install updates for the 'Realtek Audio' (You may also install drivers from the manufacturer website: Realtek) > Recheck the results.

Hope this helps. Do reply with the findings.

I have Asus M50Sv with Realtek HD Audio and Vista 32bit SP2.

Once a day after rebooting the sound dissapeared because of Windows Audio service not started.
In events log I see Windows Audio service starting error with code 13 (OxD).
If I try to start this service manually - it also fails to stard whth error code 13.

I read all found threads about Audio service problem whth Vista and didn't found a solution.

All services Windows Audio service depends from are running properly.
I have reinstalled audio device using lates version of Realtek audio drivers.
I have updated all other drivers and installed latest Windows updates.
I don't have rollback points.

Can someone give me more ideas how I could be fixed?
(reinstalling windows is not an option so far)

What it means then service fails to start with code 13?

Please help!

Thanks in advance!

A:Windows Audio Service not starting

I'm assuming the sound card is integrated? Try reinstalling the driver completely. Uninstall the current one and then reinstall it (or the most current one).

So I have 3 harddrives, one running Vista, one running XP and I recently installed one to run Windows 7. The install went fine and the OS runs great, the problem is, I go into BIOS and set the XP HDD to first boot(Vista starts without this problem), when it boots, I get the "Boot Manager" which tells me "System could not boot due to a hardware or software change". It tells me to insert installation disk and choose repair. Instead I press enter to continue, and it then gives me the option to 1.) Boot previous version of Windows, 2.) Boot Windows 7, 3.) Start installation. I choose option 1 and XP starts and runs fine, no big deal but its a minor inconvenience I would like to do without. Has anyone ran into this type of problem and what is a possible fix. Just as a side note, I tried (while in XP) right clicking on Computer>Properties>Advanced>Startup/Recovery and there wasnt even the option to display Windows 7. Please help in anyway possible, thank you.

A:Problems starting XP after installing Windows 7

Windows 7 won't show in XP because it doesn't use the boot.ini file like XP. If you set the HD to boot first as Windows 7 you should get a bootloader that lets you select XP.

when windows updates, it then reboots, and just hangs on the 'starting windows' screen..
only after it updates, works fine before.

I've re-installed it many times, but get the same result.
this never used to happen until i did this fresh installation today.

now it happens every time, just after it installs some standard updates, it wont boot up..
im totally lost,, please help.

A:Windows 7 hangs on 'Starting Windows' screen after installing updates

Boot into System Recovery Options to run Startup Repair a few times. Report back what it finds.

Please post back a screenshot of your maximized Disk Mgmt drive map and listings, using SNipping TOol in Start Menu: Screen Shots

Next reset Windows Update components to see if that could be the problem.

If not run SFC -SCANNOW Command

Every time I boot up my XP Home computer (runing Service Pack 1) and open up Windows Media Player I get the message :

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the sound card makes it work again but only until the next boot.

Yesterday when I was looking through the XP Services list and noticed that the Windows Audio service had not been started even though it is on Automatic and always has been to the best of my knowledge. If I right-click on it and select Start on the pop up menu then my sound starts working again.

Why do I have to keep turning it on manually - it only started doing this a few weeks ago. Is it something to do with Windows Update?

The Computer Browser service does exactly the same thing - it is on Automatic but needs to be started manually every time I want to access another computer on the network.

Hi, my laptop wouldn't start up and came up with an error. I went back to windows when it was first purchased so I wouldn't lose my files too. Now when I start up it says "Setup is starting services" and after about 5 seconds it comes up with the error:
"The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error.

Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation."

The problem is whenever I click "OK" and it restarts it just comes back with the same error. It used to be a different error, Windows could not complete the installation for some reason that I cant remember. That also put me in this boot loop.

I just want to find out how to fix this so I can go back to all my files that are very important. I cannot lose these files or my life will be over!

You should always back up your files externally as well as make your Recovery Disks or save a Backup Image, so that if Win7 becomes irreparable you can reimage it and put your files back.

Works through these steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot which include how to copy out your data externally which I would do first if you have data you cannot risk losing.

I just received my new ASUS HD7850-DC-2GD5 video card. I installed it, booted up Windows, and installed the drivers from the included CD. Then I rebooted Windows. However, my system hangs at the 'Starting Windows' screen. Actually, it seems that only the video hangs--because if I type in my password and hit enter, as if I could see the welcome screen, I hear the 'correct' sound that normally plays when I log in. I just can't *see* what's going on.

I reset the system and booted into safe mode, where I entered Device Manager and uninstalled the HD7850 display adapter. Then I rebooted Windows, and again I'm able to operate normally -- but without the AMD Radeon drivers. I've tried downloading the latest drivers from the AMD website, but installing those leads to the same problem. I get stuck at the 'Starting Windows' screen.

This has me totally perplexed... I bought an ASUS-branded card specifically to try and avoid drama, as I also have an ASUS mobo (the P8Z68-VPRO/GEN3). My CPU is an i7 2700k, not currently overclocked at all. My PSU is an XFX PRO850W XXX Edition Semi-Modular 88Plus 850 Watt PSU, which should be up to the task, right?

Anyone have any clue why this is happening?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide...and yes I did try turning it off and then turning it back on.
Running a laptop..Dell Latitude D520...the hard drive failed and was replaced with a similar one. Windows was installed with accompanying drivers and ran fine for several months. I am not aware of any changes to the system but it now will not boot all the way through.
If I run it normal the bars freeze on the Windows screen and running in safe mode it freezes at Mup.sys driver. I also tried repairing with XP reinstall CD and it will boot and run the CD but stalls at "Setup is Starting WIndows" screen. I let it sit for several hours on the screen and it never changed.
I ran diagnostics and everything passed. I am not getting any error codes.
If you have any suggestions of can help in any way I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Good Evening,
I have spent 12 hours trying to fix this problem.  I am working on my sister's machine and really would like to get this running without formatting the hard drive.
Here is what happened.
Yesterday my sister asked me to remove some malware from her machine.  I used malwarebytes to remove a browser object helper spam.  The machine restarted and booted into windows perfectly.  At the same time I decided to update some of her software and drivers that were years out of date.  I installed the newest AMD Catalyst Driver 14.2 beta.  I did not uninstall the previous version (out of share laziness) and now the computer will not enter windows.
It will hang on the Starting Windows (Black screen).  It will not enter safe mode (freezes after loading atipcie.sys).
I have tried using a windows installation disc to repair windows.  It does not work.  It states it cannot fix the problem.  In the error box it shows bad driver.
I have tried sfc /scannow and it states no problems.
I have tried chkdsk /r and it finds no problems.
Where do I go from here?  I really do not want to have to start again and reinstall all her programs.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
PS.  I can add her drive to my PC to get at the files if necessary.

When i click on the properties of the Sound & Audio,

I have tried to update it through Windows update, but there is no update for the audio driver,
it always says 'Your Audio Driver is Up to Date'.

I have manually tried to download and install the Audio Realtek HD sound Driver,
Still does not work.

A:No Audio after installing Windows 7

Let's make sure that your playback devices are enabled.

Right-click the speaker icon on your taskbar > Select 'Playback Devices'
In the empty space, Right-click and select both 'Show Disconnected/Disabled Devices'
Do you see icons for your speakers and headphones now? You may need to enable both of these.

You can also try the troubleshooter to discover any connection issues that may exist, instructions are below:

Click 'Start' > Select 'Control Panel'
Type troubleshooting in the top-right search field > Select 'Troubleshooting'
Click 'Hardware and Sound' > Select 'Playing Audio'

Background: A little while ago, the audio on my Windows XP Pro SP2 system
stopped working. I was using the on-board audio card and never had a problem
before. Then, the audio device just wasn't recognized by windows anymore.
When I went to the "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties" window from the
Control Panel, it would tell me that no audio device was detected. Looking
in the Device Manager, however, under the "Sound, Video and Game Controllers"
section, all drivers were installed properly, with no IRQ conflicts, and no
yellow exclamation points on any of the sound devices or codecs. I also
verified that my speakers were working on another system, obviously, and
ensured that the audio card was enabled in my motherboard's BIOS. I
downloaded the latest drivers for my motherboard (and on-board audio card),
uninstalled and successfully re-installed those drivers multiple times.
Still no sound! I even went out and bought a new PCI audio card, installed
it, downloaded and installed the latest drivers for it. STILL no luck. This
is when I really began to scratch my head.

Next, I tried a to do a non-destructive "Repair" of Windows using that
option from the Windows XP setup CD. I got errors doing that , and I gave up
after several attempts. Finally, on a cloned backup hard drive, I
re-installed Windows completely. Lo and behold, the audio worked fine!

This leads me to believe that some part of the Windows XP audio "su... Read more

I am really hoping if someone could help me with this issue that I am facing ever since I installed Windows 7 Ultimate (32 Bit).
I was using Windows XP Home edition prior to this.
After the installation of Windows 7, I saw in the Device Manager under the section "Sound" : Multimedia Audio Controller. This also had a yellow exclamation mark.

On my desktop, on the bottom right hand corner, if I click on the speaker icon (It has a red cross on it), it says "No audio devices are installed".

I have integrated sound card.

Can someone please tell me how to check what sound drivers I need and from where to install it?

I would really appreciate the help.

First i want to apologize for my bad english since i'm italian

So.. I just installed windows7 ultimate and suddenly the right audio channel is not working.

1) I want to make clear i've tried different cables and headphones/speakers (i'm a producer so i've got plenty..) and i can't hear the right channel at all.

2) I tried to download latest version of Realtek and it didn't help

3) On audio configuration when i press the configure button and it starts helping me configuring it, when i tried the right audio channel i could hear it very low (like the left channel is at least 10 times higher). that is the only situation in wich i can hear something coming out from my right speaker (and is like a 90w monitor.. so i think i'll hear it otherwise)

4) Since i just installed everything i tried to format and re-install, but i got no results

5) I tried the bit/hz thing but with ANY configuration i don't get any result

6) And now a very odd thing: since i got an external audio interface i tried even with that. right channel still not working.

I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on Toshiba Portege M500. However there is no audio came out although in the device manager it worked properly.

I have installed realtek audio driver but still no audio.

Could you please advise how to fix this issue? Thank you.

A:No audio after installing Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on Laptop

If you installed RealTek, it did not take. The generic basic function Windows installed High Definition Audio Device is all that is showing for sound. Are you sure this PC has RealTek?

Looking at the Device Manager listing, this PC has other unidentified device problems. If there are motherboard chipset drivers for this model, install them as a first step.

More on the specs of this PC is needed. I looked at the Toshiba site but there are many different Portage M500 models.

Okay, My PC was recently reloaded to factory settings on Windows 8. Which is fine, except the stock audio driver. It sounds horrible. I've looked for a new driver from Realtek because I've had one from them before and it worked amazing, but I can't seem to find it. I've downloaded a few but when I go to my driver list it doesn't even show up for me to select it. So, with that being said. Can anyone help me find a Realtek audio driver for Windows 8 64 bit? Also if you could tell me how to select it after the install that'd be great. Just to make sure I do it correctly.

A:Audio driver for Windows 8.

Press the key combo Win-R and type in "devmgmt.msc," look for your audio device then right-click it and select "Update Driver Software." If this doesn't work to your satisfaction, go to your motherboard or computer system's manufacturer's website and download the latest Win 8 64-bit driver. The Realtek site also has generic drivers for download.

I'm not pushing this brand per se but when my onboard audio module went out I purchased this $25 card and can't be happier with it (there are Win 8.1 drivers for it that work just fine). The card requires a PCI slot so make sure your motherboard has one (most do).

Guys, I have problem with Realtek HD audio when sound plays. The sound skippies on some areas.

Please reply.

A:Sound Skippies on Windows 7 after installing Realtek HD audio

Sound is always on a shared IRQ (Interrupt) with a higher priority device. Depending on what the higher priority device is it could be interrupting the sound.

Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the RealTek entry and then LEFT click "Uninstall" DO NOT check the box to also uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. Sometimes this puts sound on a different shared IRQ and fixes the problem.

it seems the people who made this card have not yet made drivers for windows 7 as shown here what you may want to do is run it as administrator if that dose not work set it to run as vista not just normal install

TL;DR: New laptop with Linpus Linux, can't install Windows from bootable USB, [title] among errors.

Hi. I'm quite desperate to make a forum post, so please help me, as I've been googling and trying all I could for the last 5 hours.

Bought new laptop(ACER ASPIRE E 15) and it came with a preinstalled Linpus Linux(no GUI), which has no DVD tray - so I have to install Windows through a bootable USB stick.

However, this is not the problem, as I've made a lot of bootable USB sticks before and never encountered these problems.

So, the problems:Trying to normally bootup results in windows doing some "Loading files" for a few seconds then going into "Starting windows" and the animation freezes after less than a second.
Trying to install windows in LEGACY MODE only allows me to pick between Linpus Linux (3.4.46) and Create a bootable USB disk - it does not detect the bootable USB.
Trying to boot with F12 gives the same animation freeze problem.

disabled 3.0 usb port
enabled legacy mode
went back to UEFI mode
tried both FAT32 and NTFS file systems
tried a different USB port

I'm using RUFUS 2.11 and I will try with a different copy of Windows and a different stick after I get some sleep, so if you've got other ideas aside from those, please comment.

Hello! So for the past few months, I've been having issues with my audio and Windows 10. My problem was I would have my audio completely cut out, but after trying a lot of fixes online, I managed to find one that was fairly stable (although the issue still presented itself if I had extremely long sessions on my laptop, but rarely did I get to that point). The issue is that recently this problem has arisen once again. Sometimes simply putting my laptop to sleep then waking it up again would fix it for a bit, but other times required my laptop to be rebooted. In the past couple of days, I decided to try and fix the issue by going through the process I went through before, so I searched throughout the internet for different fixes and drivers I could try, and so far all I've found is that one driver might last for half an hour or so, then it will cut out again and I need to redo the entire process. It's really stressing me out and I've decided that going on these forums may be easier for me to find the answer, and it may also help other people in my situation. Thanks in advance!

Hi guys,

I've been having sound problems on my computer the past week. I'm usually really good with computers, but it has been updating and when it updated I had no sound after.

It is saying that there is 'No OutPut Device installed'. I'm on a Windows 7 and I think its a 64 Bit but I'm not positive. If you can help me at all it would be appreciated.

I had tried everything from attempting to install another update, to attempting to have the program fix itself. I've also tried downloading the Audio Bus on the HP website and nothing has worked. I'm worried I caused more problems then the original one. Anything you guys can help with would be appreciated. Thanks.

Have you tried installing the driver in safe mode?

Do you have a backup from before the problem started?

My "Multimedia audio controller" is popping up as new hardware found. It's sitting in device manager with yellow ?

I have an onboard sound card.

When i try to install the drivers from my motherboard CD, it asks for my windows CD. Then just says it cannot find the files.

When i try to point it to the drivers that i downloaded it does the same.

No matter what it asks for the windows CD, then says it cannot find the file "Ksuser.dll" which is defenatly there inside a .cab file.

I honestly cannot find a way around this and i am left without sound.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, i've tried to make everything as clear as i can. Please ask any questions you think will help lead to a solution and i'll answer them asap.

I own a Dell XPS 15 laptop (Windows 7 64 bit) that has a Realtek ALC665 audio driver installed. All of a sudden, my sound stopped working. After reinstalling the audio driver I figured out that I can get sound if I turn off the window audio driver enhancement (NEVER had a problem before), but this causes a HUGE loss in audio quality.   If I leave it on I can hear system sound notifications as well as sound from websites such as youtube, but programs such as VLC or ITunes will not produce any sound unless it's turned off. I've tried installing several Realtek drivers with the same results. I've also tried rolling back the driver, reinstalling the original driver, installing an updated one, doing a system scan for errors, and  a system restore to several points already.

I'm looking for answers that DO NOT involve a full system restore.

This is what can be done
First your audio progam that came with windows 7 is usually the default thats called Conexant CX20671 Smart Audio or it might be called different in your case but what you can do is reinstall windows over windows, now you wont lose any data and this will fix any files that might be corrupt. if you have the original windows seven installation disk that came with your computer while you have your computer on up and running load the cd into your computer and run the installation procedure but first back everything either to a external hard drive that you want to save , then start the installation.Better yet Go to you tube and look for a video by  Britec09 of this called{ Repair Install to fix windows7 without refomatting} and he will explain how this is done step by step , if it is possible download the video and study it like I did as I had the simular problem and what this will do is put back any file that is damaged, but I should mention first run a program call malware bytes and clean out anything it finds and a second program is Superantispyware and again clean out anything it finds first, do a complete system scan of both programs then reinstall windows. Now if you dont have a reinstallation disk of windows 7 you can create one as that info is also on you tube as well of how to do this write to me if you need further help at  <ADMIN NOTE: Email id removed as per privacy policy> care of Larry Cavens and I can send further i... Just like the title says, I don't want the realtek audio drivers as it completely messes with my audio and also doesn't correctly switch when i plug in headphones for example.
It also doesn't allow for the 'speaker fill' enhancement to be used when playing stereo content through surround sound.

Windows itself does a far better job as opposed to realtek.

Every time i uninstall realtek it automatically gets reinstalled.

Sorry Microsoft, you don't know best.

Hey guys, I've read a bunch of posts of this happening to people too but it doesn't seem like there was a permanent solution to any of them. I just installed windows 7 on a dell dimension 3000 and im using the onboard video. Everytime i reboot it wants to automatically install the "Standard VGA Display Driver" even though I uninstall it and install the Intel Display Driver that works much better and actually plays movies. I even moved the display.inf out of the windows folder but now when i restart it still trys to install another driver over the one i have and just says that it cant find the driver for the device. And since I cant install the drivers then plug the device in, i'm kind of stuck in a rut right now. Any suggestions? I really appreciate it.

I recently purchased a new Sony VAIO. Soon after I then purchased a Samsung SSD, I originally intended on cloning the original VAIO drive but I found this to be more trouble than it was worth as Norton Ghost was having trouble recognising partitions on the original drive and more importantly I wanted to get away from all of the Vaio's bloatware.

So I opted to install a fresh Windows 7 using a genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit OEM DVD. I fitted the SSD, got to the Windows 7 install screen, selected my language, the installer progressed for a couple of seconds and then stopped and complained about a missing CD/DVD Driver with the option to browse and select the driver.

I've tried attaching the original drive via USB and selecting numerous drivers from c:\windows\system32\driverstore folder but with no success. I also booted back into the original drive and used Double Driver to backup the DVD driver and then tried to use them during the install. I even ran the installation from a bootable Win 7 USB drive but it still complained about the missing CD/DVD drivers.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated as I'm running out of ideas and hair to pull.

To try and make a very long story extremely short, I have been trying to nail down this particular issue and have had no luck. Old laptop, a Dell Inspiron E1505 with an ATI X1400, that has ran perfectly fine with 7 and equally so with 8 save for a few minor nagging issues. Namely a recurring issue with the video card drivers:

Under the dell provided drivers (only have up to Vista available and 32 bit only) or drivers provided by Windows Update, full screen non-native resolution applications like games will fill the screen. But if I choose any other driver such as a Mobility Modded directly sourced ATI/AMD driver, the screen is 'postage-stamped' (basically pixel mapped 1:1 with the extra space blacked out) even though the Bios option for screen expansion is enabled.

Windows 7 provided drivers off Windows Update for the GPU which worked fine in this case. Unfortunately they aren't provided in 8. I have went out to the WU catalog and grabbed that same driver and tried in 8 and it always fails. If memory serves it mentions something about missing files somewhere. I will have to try again and get the exact message.

I would like to stay with 8 as there are some features I really enjoy and as far as performance and reliability go on this particular laptop, it runs just as well if not better than Vista or 7 did. Dual core C2D T7200, 2GB ram, 128MB dedicated ATI X1400, upgraded to 60GB SSD with a 500GB platter in the optical bay, 1680x1050 LCD. But this particular bug keeps coming ... Read more

A:Installing GPU driver from Windows Update under 7?

If you update the driver and it causes problems, just use the Rollback driver option (in Device Manager) to roll back to the previous driver. That should prevent having to reinstall.

Some of the problems could be the motherboard chipset drivers. One of the prime things the chipset drivers do is properly identify all the devices on or attached to the motherboard. I used to do a lot of support on the Dell users forums and the chipset drivers were almost always key to a successful install. The Vista motherboard chipset drivers should still be valid for Win7/Win8. Unfortunately, since Dell does not support anything above Vista 32 bit (this is a relatively "old" technology PC) you are basically on your own. One thing that I've seen mentioned several times (and I had to do it with a new AMD Radeon HD7770 video card) is to completely uninstall the old video drivers before installing new ones. Uninstall the drivers, run Driver Detective (Driver Fusion) to root out any leftover ATI/AMD files, restart the PC and then do a comlete new install.

Hi guys, hope somebody could help me with this, I've installed the RTM for Windows 7 build 7600 x64, Windows automatically assigned the driver for my 9800GT video card, there's no problem with the display but it lacks the Nvidia Control Panel, w/c I really need.

I've rushed to the nearest download center of Nvidia and downloaded the newest driver compatible with windows 7, actual file I've downloaded is: 190.38_desktop_win7_winvista_64bit_english_whql

It took certain amount of time to install but after a bit(around the middle of the progress of the actual drivers installing) the dialog for Physix appeared asking me for language preference. Chose 'English' then the progress bar whized by and the 'Finished' screen appears with the message: "The system was not modified please, tried installing it again later", being a good boy, I tried installing it again , but the same error appears.

Hope somebody could shed some light to this, many thanks!

I have been having some weird things going on with my computer, and have posted here and gotten help.  But I am frequently getting a pop-up that tells me I need to download Windows Vista Driver Optimizer.  It says it is a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner. Tells me it will help a lot of things, one of them crashes and I was told that my hard drive might be getting ready to crash, faster windows performance, increased computer stability and performance, etc.  Should I download this and see if it helps any of my problems?  I have an older computer, running Vista, AMD Athlon 64 Pro 3500+, 2.21 GHz, 2:00 GB,32-bit operating system. My computer has gotten slower.  I have Microsoft Essentials anti-virus and ad-aware malware.  Also, I have been trying to do backups to an external hard drive (Seagate) and it tells me my backups fail.  Any insight is much appreciated as I know squat about computers, other than email and surf the web.  I don't understand a lot of the techie stuff. A:Installing driver when windows won't boot

Hi geekman2,

Have you tried booting into Advanced Boot Options (F8) and choosing
Last Known Good Configuration?

Last Known Good Configuration:
Starts Windows 7 with the most recent registry and driver configurations that worked successfully. Every time you turn your computer off and Windows 7 shuts down successfully, important system settings are saved in the registry. You can use those settings to start your computer if a problem occurs. For example, if a new driver for your video card is causing problems, or an incorrect registry setting is preventing Windows 7 from starting correctly, you can restart your computer using Last Known Good Configuration.

Please follow this tutorial:

Then once booted you can remove the driver.

I just received my new laptop yesterday with the full intention of removing the Windows 8 installation and installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. After some work with the BIOS screen I finally made it so that the Optical Drive was first in the boot order but now I can't get it to run the Windows 7 setup.

1. Turn on computer.
2. At prompt for "Press any key..." I hit a key.
3. The progress bar for "Setup is loading files" completes.
4. The screen comes to "Starting Windows" and the MS log comes on to the screen.
5. Nothing further happens, the screen remains with the MS logo and "Starting Windows"

Windows 8 boots without issue (but I don't want to use it). I tried reading through a number of other threads but they seemed to be dealing with desktop PCs where hardware was easily removed. I have never had an issue with installing Win7 from the DVD before. I have already tried removing one of the memory chips but that did not resolve the issue.

Comp Specs:
Asus A55A-TH51 (purchased from tigerdirect)
Intel Core i5
Hitachi 500 GB HDD

A:Issue Installing Win 7 Ult x64 on New PC; Stuck @ "Starting Windows"

On a Windows 8 PC you likely have to turn off Secure Boot in BIOS setup first before you can install Win7.

Then you need to follow special steps to boot installer to install Win7 using UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with - Windows 7 Forums.

All of this is detailed in Downgrade Windows 8 to Windows 7.

Some users decide not to mess with UEFI but to instead install normally to an MBR disk as shown in Bypass UEFI to Install WIn7

Today i have installed windows 7 on 64 bits and i just cannot get past this problem with the sound. I have a 5.1 surround audio system and have installed the latest Realtek HD audio driver on my pc to get all the speakers going.

After the installation of the driver every sound came with buzzing. The music, the clicking on folders, games, anything, every sound was buzzing, just like the static you get on radio, a blurred sound, if i may call it that way. This was the first thing to install on my PC after the Opera browser. I only have the standard High Definition Audio Driver from the windows, no other audio driver, so i don't think that anything can interfere with the Realtek driver. Can this be because it's 64 bits?

Can anyone help please? I've seen this problem on the net but there was no exact answer. Why is Realtek software acting this way? I tried reinstalling or tried older versions, nothing helped. :??:
Can anyone give any piece of advice?

A:Realtek HD audio driver buzzing on windows 7 64

Welcome to the Windows 7 forum.

If you have RealTek, you should not also have the "High Definition Audio Codec" which is the Windows installed generic sound driver. Normally, when you install the proper sound driver, such as RealTek, the High Definition Audio Codec, driver is automatically deleted.

Please fill in the "My System Specs". It helps us to help you.

Also, please post a screenshot of the Device Manager, Sound section.

I just finished re-building my computer and performed a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit). I have not had any trouble getting any of the other device driver to install, but my audio does not work. When I mouse over the volume icon in my notification area, it says "No Audio Output Device is installed." I checked Device Manager and there are no missing drivers. The only thing in Device Manager that looks like anything audio related is the "High Definition Audio Controller".

I looked on the Intel support forums for an updated driver and found one that was for Windows XP/Vista. I tried to install it, but it said that the hardware was unsupported by the installation package. I have also tried to run the driver installer in compatibility mode for both XP SP3 and Vista SP1 & SP2, with no results.

I checked around on some other forums as well and saw a recommendation to update the chipset driver, which I have done. All other drivers and the system BIOS were updated to the latest versions. I also checked in BIOS and the audio is enabled. Also, another recommendation that I have tried is to uninstall the "High Definition Audio Controller" and disable audio in BIOS on next boot, then re-enable it after restarting a 2nd time and let Windows find the driver again.
The relevant specs of my PC are as follows:

Motherboard: Intel DG33TL Desktop Board
- From what Intel says, the audio chip is an "IDT 92xx Series"
OS: *Genuine* Windows... Read more

Looks like Intel doesn't provide support (drivers) for Windows 7x64 for that particular board. you can get Vista drivers to work (which you have already tried, apparently), but to be honest, updating your hardware is usually the easier (albeit more costly) route. You could look into just getting a PCI sound card:
