Constant Unpacking Errors and Game Client Crashes

Q: Constant Unpacking Errors and Game Client Crashes

This help request might fit in alternate discussion threads, but this seems like the most logical place to post... these could be 2 separate issues, but it feels like they are connected to me.

A - Unpacking any RAR, Zip, 7z, etc file - particularly large ones results in CRC or other unpacking errors 90% of the time. Sometimes a simple retry works, sometimes re-downloading the compressed file works.. sometimes nothing works. Anything over 1GB is almost sure to fail miserably every time (often fails on different files within the package.
(this occurs using winzip, winrar, 7zip)

B - Multiple game client crashes - Oblivion, Various MMORPG (WoW, LOTRO, many others) crash constantly.. if the computer doesn't freeze or blue screen, the error is 100% the client .exe file .. it doesn't happen just on strenuous load sequences or 'laggy' areas.. it can just happen sitting in the middle of an unpopulated area.. varies once per 1-5 hrs.. rarely goes 3 gameplay attempts without at least 1 crash.

Both errors have occured pretty consistently over the last 3 years.. i give up on some games that have more crashes than others.. and give up on some because i can never even unpack the game to play it.

Original System: Dell XPS 600 Purchased October 2005 .. problems started right away - but I just ignored most of them until after warranty

Hardware Replaced:
Video Card (6 mos ago).. was nvidia 7800 gtx, now nvidia 8600 i believe..
Hard Drive(3 mos ago) - was Maxtor that came with dell - now 250gb WD.. same problems..
Controller Card (today) purchased Sata II Pcie card on recommendation and hooked HD direct into that and disabled on board drive controller

Multiple Reinstalls of windows, including brand new install on 2nd hard drive.

Next step in my mind is to replace the 2GB memory... ???

Next step is place all Dell products in trash can.

>> any advice other than replace each part 1 by 1 -- would be great!

sorry - i hate bumping - put posted this late last night - figure there are more people on the forums now that hopefully have some advice!

Hey there, using an i5 quad core, 4 gigs of ram, P55A Fuzion MB, with (most importantly) a Radeon HD 6870 graphics care (1 gig). Had no problems with this rig for the 2+ years I have owned it, ran everything perfectly (primarily a gaming machine).

Recently though when trying to run NWN 2 there was some graphical freezing (the graphics driver crashing, and me having to alt-tab back to windows to contiue). As first I thought it was just a problem of the game being old and not compatible with DX12, but the 'problem' has spread to other games also: namely Dark Souls 2 and League of Legends. Now any game I try and run that is more graphically demanding than hearthstone freezes, goes to black and freezes my PC within seconds of loading up.

I've tried deleting the drivers and reinstalling them (I have the latest version), tried cleaning all the gunk out of my PC to keep the temp down (graphics card runs at a constant 70celc), none of it made any difference... recently when watching a stream on twitch I also had a similar crash

No idea what's going wrong, and I'm at the extent of my limited knowledge.

Any help would be massivly appreciate, thankyou.

I dunno why but the game will run normally for about ten minutes then itll freeze. Sometimes it runs fine for ages and sometimes itll lock up within 30 seconds. The games it tends to affect are Pirates of the Caribbean, Railroad Tycoon 3 and Medieval: Total war.

I meet all the sys spec requirements for both and its not an overheating problem (I aimed the biggest fan I could find into it and it didnt help).

Howdy there. So I guess the computer basics to start:
Asus p5n-D mobo
core 2 duo 2.something ghz processor
2x evga 9600 gt in sli mode
2gb ram

Not sure what else to tell ya bout it. Anyways, here's my problem.
Playing starcraft 2, I will randomly get a crash that looks like this:
Now I was monitoring the temperatures of both gpus and they were easily in operating range. Case was blowing cool air most of the time. Got fed up and assumed my GPU was toast. Just picked up a evga gtx 460 se, popped it in and not even a half hour into it it crashed with this exact screen. Sometimes there are a lot more lines going all over.

Any ideas? I guess I'm kinda a techie novice but I've done all I can think of. Maybe faulty ram?? Thanks guys/gals. Hope to hear from someone soon :D

Halo, this is my first post so plox take it easy, i'm not what you'd call tech savvy. Anyways, I've recently put together a new PC sporting a intel core 2 quad, an NVIDIA 780i EVGA motherboard, a 9800 GX2 graphics card and all the other fixins for a gamer's PC (4 gigs o' ram and such). I've been using windows XP 64 bit (which rapes because it's so damn fast) the only problem is, recently, my games stopped working, mind you not all of them, but for instance: I was playing Farcry just yesterday and now, when I start the game up, the splash screen comes on and it automatically closes. I've heard the whole deal about drivers and such-like. I've downloaded and rolled back, unistalled, then reinstalled all of the most recent and up to date drivers, and mind you, the games were working before, but now, the games seem to be crashing before they even start LEFT AND RIGHT. It would be much appreciated if one of you fine, fine members of the community could help me sort this problem out. (if you need any more of the gritty specifics, just ask)

A:constant game/application crashes in 64 bit

What power supply are you using? You should have a 750W+ unit capable of outputting 24A on the +12V rail for your 9800GX2 to run smoothly and not damage your hardware.

Hello, I hope this thread is in the right section of the forums.

Since a couple of days ago, I'm having an extremely frustrating problem, which is my computer constantly crashes whenever I log in normally. It usually takes a minute or two, then I hear a faint whirring noise from my computer and everything just freezes, and I have to manually power off.

I don't have any of these problems in Safe Mode (with Networking). Also, I haven't installed any new software or changed anything that I can think of, which might be causing the problem.

I have attached my DxDiag info. All help will be greatly appreciated.
PS: Treat me like a computer idiot :P

I downloaded and installed SP2 with no problems, cleaned up with CCleaner, ran a full defrag and nothing has changed. The problem also occurs at the login screen.

I'm having terrible trouble with my PC.

Windows XP Professional (no service packs. I tried service pack 2, but it wouldn't let me install anything afterwards, so I did a system restore)
AMD Athlon XP 2400+ 2.0GHz
1.0 GB RAM
256MB Nvidea GeForce FX 5500 with latest drivers
and I'm running Directx 9.0C

It's a homebuilt box, not from any major company.

I've installed and tried plenty of games, most of which crash with an error message asking if I want to reboot, and the worst of all, Morrowind just randomly locks up (and I want to play that game so bad!). Battlefield 1942 and Vietnam let me play for a few minutes before showing me an error message, but Soldier of Fortune 2 just goes ahead and shows it right as soon as you start shooting. The only game I've tried that actually works without crashing or freezing is Grand Theft Auto Vice City.....

I spent an hour or 2 on the phone with Microsoft Technical support, and they told me to do all of the basic troubleshooting, like updating video drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling the game, uninstalling and reinstalling the video drivers, turning off the sound accelleration....and nothing worked, so he said there wasn't anything else that could be done. it's rediculous how this happens with almost everything I try, especially since it's a totally legit copy of windows xp. if it was a bootleg copy, then that might explain it, but it's not.

I've been experiencing repeated crashes and hardware errors when playing the game Atlas Reactor. Typically, the graphics will freeze sometime in the first few turns of a match, but the audio will continue to play, and the game will register clicks for aiming skills, locking in my turn, etc. Typically after another half turn or so (of just audio), the client will crash. I don't have this issue with any other game, and I've been able to run benchmarks with Heaven and 3DMark without any problems. I've updated all my drivers and BIOS, tried troubleshooting with video card clock speeds, etc., but can't seem to stop the crashes.
I've posted a video of the issue here:
Through my troubleshooting, I've discovered the Windows Reliability Monitor, which registers the same two "critical events" every time I experience a crash:

Hi my name is Peter I am new to this so please excuse any mistakes in posting this I might make. I have very recently built myself a new pc to game on. Once I put the system together and installed windows 10 almost immediately I got BSOD with a random error message. Every time I turn on the computer at some point within at most 20min I will get the BSOD with a diff error message. Sometimes I will get it as soon as the pc turns on and other times it will boot seemingly normally and I will use it for short period of time before getting the BSOD with a different error message. The pc is unusable in its current state and I am loosing it trying to figure out what to do.
PS: The first time I installed windows 10 i used a boot usb that my friend made me and when I gave it back I made my own from microsofts website to see if the boot device was the problem but even when i reinstalled windows the same problem happened. I have also tried using different hard drives (both regular not ssd) which did not solve anything.
Errors: (Memory management, System thread exception not handled, irql not less or equal, kernel security check failed, page fault in non page area, etc.)

PSS: Iv posted all of my components in my profile
Please someone HELP!!!!!

Hi, I fear that my PC has become posessed by a 'PC SPRITE' or 'Computer Gnome'. This is now my fourth attempt to post this topic.Every time that I restart my system I will have from one to five generic hosts to crash. Internet Explorer has been freezing up and not responding. This has been happening fairly often. Sometimes only two or three times a day, but at other times it happens with every IE that is opened within just a few minutes. So far I have run Microsoft AntiSpy, Ad-Aware SE, and Spybot Search & Destroy. All have came back clean. I have ran ewido, avast!, and Fix-It Utilities 5 anti Virus scans. All have came back clean.I ran Trend Micro's online scanned. It came back clean. I ran TrojanHunter. It came back clean. I ran CWShredder. It found and fixed > CWS.MSConfig < however, that little bugger has reapeared and been fixed twice more since then. It just keeps reapearing on it's own, so I'm not sure if I have actually killed it off or not.Something weired is happening with my sounds too. All of the system sounds have stopped working. I use an internet dictionary that has a pronunciation feature and it's sounds will work from time to time. All of the above is on an administrative account. There is one limited account on my PC, and when I signed onto it I pulled up Henery's severe weather video, It had sound! Not so on the admin account.I also use the internet answering service CallWave, and I have been unable to retrive any of my messages online. Ever... Read more

I've been haveing some trouble with either game crashes or full bluescreen (error 101).
I WAS useing twin GeForce 9600GTs in SLI, I recently upgraded to a HD 7870.
The problem did not change, suggesting that video drivers are not the source... Although altering the drivers with the 9600GTs did seem to effect if the game crashed or full bluescreen crash.
So basicly, the PC works fine untill I play a game (high end and/or minecraft... simple games do not trigger it) at that point, you are on borrowed time. Around 15-120 min. into gameplay, either the game will crash (fatal error bug or no bug report) OR the PC will freeze briefly followed by a blue screen BCCode 101. (Windows 7 64)

I did a simple RAM check, but I did not leave it running for long. I have 3 sticks of 2GB in there, and haveing removed one at a time did not effect the problem. (IE: I took out each stick, leaveing 2 in for a quick and easy method to find a possable faulty RAM chip).

Thus far, it would seem that the CPU in at haveing timeing issues with a core.
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6400+ 3.2 GHz

Could it be overheating? Everything seems to work fine untill I start a game, then it crashes out roughly 30 min into playing. I'm consitering removeing the heat sink, reapplying the thermal paste, and checking if that has any effect. This much I am qualified to do; but is there a way to monitor processor heat levels durring gameplay (I'm sure standard bios heat checks would not show problems). ... Read more

About 3-4 months ago, my uncle placed a GeForce 9500GT video card. It worked nice for games like Dekaron,Rappelz,Oblivion but just about a week ago it crashed on COD2. I thought it was normal but it happened on Left 4 dead too. I started to get worried and thought it was normal but then it kept on crashing on Portal(1st stage, at around 20-30 seconds on the timer) and almost any game i borrow from my friends. It crashed on Warcraft 3, Overlord, Drift City(only in Undercity Mission). Im kinda worried now maybe you guys can help me.

It crashes and sometimes the sound loops but sometimes it doesnt. Im not sure if it's only the monitor because some of my games cant be shut by using ALT F4 and i cant check if it shuts down well. When i unplug, plug and turn it on, there are no warnings or things that say it recovered from an error. It just starts normally. Some people say i have to upgrade my Video card driver but im worried because when i installed a driver on my Laptop , i couldnt turn it on. SO WHAT DO I DO?

Greetings Oh wise ones!

Got an HP Pavilion 513W. Running XP Home Edition,.512 MB memory,80 Gig HDD.
Have just upgraded from IE7 to IE. in an attempt to improve performance. Slow startup.
My problem is that very often system won't log onto internet, not with IE, Firefox or Chrome. This has been for the past several weeks, even before I upgraded IE.
When I go into Start/Run/services.msc I find that both DHCP client and DNS client have stopped running. I restart them, and can then logon..This happens about once in 4 or 5 logon attempts. I have both these set on Manual. How do we solve this problem? Register cleaners are usually advised against, but I have done a scan and find numerous
register problems, on this machine. Would a register cleaner help any? I won't do it
unless you advise it and suggest one..
Thanks in advance.

A:DHCP Client stops. Needs constant restart

No registry cleaners. The "problems" they find are concocted by the programs themselves to make you think you need them.

Check the settings in the Services plug-in and set the recovery options. It may be as simple as setting them so they they automatically restart on the first and second failures.

Also, check the Event Log to see why they shut down if you need to go further to diagnose this.

I'll keep this short and sweet because I know how busy you guys are.
I built a gaming computer from scratch, there were a lot of problems even getting it working initially this time, as compared to the last one I built that I had zero problems with ever.
I am getting a lot of BSOD's, games freeze and crash, movies freeze and crash, and streaming does too. In addition, I am getting an error occasionally with the GPU that tells me it has timed out and reset the GPU. I used the windows recommended fix for this and set the response timeout time to 8 seconds, since I have done so I have only seen this problem once. I was wondering if I had too little power for my system, but I have seen threads with similar problems that have plenty of power. I followed the instructions to the best of my ability, and you should find all of the information you have asked for below. Please don't hesitate to ask for anything else you may need. I truly appreciate what you guys are doing here for so many people.

IMO, the suggested fixes for the TDR timeout of the video card only conceals the problem - it doesn't fix it.If the card is timing out, then fixing the cause of the timeout is preferable (IMO) to just lengthening the timeout. Unfortunately it appears that the system has pirated software. Please get a legitimate copy installed and we'll be glad to help. Here's suggestions on how to ensure that your version is legitimate: be aware that we may not be able to fix it (as the hacks that were done to activate it will cause the OS to behave differently than we expect it to). If that's the case, our efforts to help may just waste your time. Secondly, the forum rules prohibit assisting with pirated software - so the topic would be closed if that is the case.As a courtesy, I will offer an analysis of your issues using the reports you provided.I will not answer any questions about the analysis until the system is made legitimate. If you do make it legitimate, please submit a new set of reports for us to check.Just FYI, sometimes the owner won't know about this.  So here's 2 scenarios that might ring a bell:- if they had a "friend" help with the computer - and the "friend" installed a pirated copy.- or they used a copy that they had from another OEM computer.  The OEM license is tied to the hardware that it came from - so you can't just use it on another system (that means that it's pirated). And here's the analysis... I migrated my home server from whs 2011 to Server 2012 r2 a couple weeks ago and have been dealing with what I assume is a side effect of being on a domain now.

If I'm on my computer working, and leave it idle long enough that the monitor goes to sleep, as soon as I wake the monitor again the computer is on the lock screen and I need to log in. I can disable this by changing my power options so that I don't require a password on wakeup, but I would prefer to still require a password when I wake the actual computer from sleep.

Anyone know if I can change or disable this feature?

A:Server 2012 domain client constant logging out.

Change the power settings so the computer does not idle to sleep after 30 minutes. You can still manually put it in sleep mode when you are done using it.

I have been fighting with this problem for some time and think its soley in the windows update problem.

My problems started when I updated my ram from 512mb to 2gigs then updated all windows xp home updates.

Now No game will run if it uses a game client, games include rapplez, Dungen and Dragons online and World of warcraft.

Everything starts off fine and I can get past the login screen but just after server selection it freezes.

I dont believe my video card is the issue as I can use masive programs like Adobe CS3 and movies, quick time, and most others have had no problems.

This seems to affect only the game clients.

I cant seem to find anyware on the net a solution to the problem.

I did try reducing hardware accleration from 8bit to no bit in the video software, but still freezes.

When the computer freezes it has to be rebooted and no other access is available.

I am running Rapplez on another computer that is AMD Athlon 1.10 Ghz, 768 MB of Ram (mixed Config), ATI Radeon HD 2400 series 2 gigs ddr2 videocard /w basic software .With windows xp professional. service pack 2 basic.

No problems in game play at all when ISP is stable.

I hope someone can help as I am begining to hate microsoft and need this computer also for Webpage design.

Thanks for your efforts

In fact, after I un-installed the program, I searched for all files related to ESPN and Game Client, and deleted those files , emptied the recyle bin before I re-booted my computer.

Good day, evening, morning!
I am having this trouble since yesterday. For some reason i can not load a browser game client (that was running perfectly a day before that) on my Windows 8 PC in Chrome.
I have contacted game developers team on their forums and they told me to post ''Developers Console'' content for them to see. And this is what they have told me:
ex.js and itn.js are not Nodiatis related at all, and for some reason you are not able to load client.js due to a connection reset. is showing as an adware/spyware host, so you are definitely infected with unwanted software that is likely interfering with the loading of the Nodiatis client. You can try to use malwarebytes or some other method to remove this software.
You can see the whole conversation here:
I have used Malwarebytes (which found and quarantined a bunch of threats), and run a few scans on my free version of Comodo Antivirus, but still the browser game wont back.
What do i do? ;<
It somehow related to '''' as was shown in Developers console before i did a scan with Malwarebytes, after the scan and quarantine it doesnt appear in console content.

Copied the above from bluescreenview download. I can't seem to attach the .dmp file due to not having gd permission to attach it.

If any of you have a radeon card (might apply to nvidia cards too) and you have been experiencing random crashes to desktop / reboots / VPU Recover windows ...Go into you r bios and change the vid card core voltage to 1.7v, if 1.7 doesnt fucntion, use 1.8. That should fix 95% of all of you crashing problems.

I had tried everything to fix these crashes, formatting HD, reinstalling windows...I even bought a new power supply. None of it worked but since i switched to 1.7v I have had no problems in any games and no crashes at all. It was set to the default 1.64v unbeknownst to be.

Anyways if youve tried everything like me...give it a try I think that it will fix it.

A:A FIX for random game crashes and Vid Card crashes!

Ummmmmmmmm... I'm sceptical... I think voltages generally aren't meant to be messed with... if you do, just know that you may run the risk of frying your card...
...right??? not all cards run on the same voltage, and if it's supposed to run on something lower, it could get fried, right?? and then if it's supposed to run higher than that, MAYBE some bugs would get fixed, but wouldn't the card also run slower??

Which radeon card do you have anyway?

EDIT actually, it looks like the standard voltage for AGP cards is 1.5v... upping the voltage will (I believe) up performance a little, as well as heat generated. Too high a voltage, however, will result in BSODs and the like.

A:DNS client event errors

Easiest approach is to delete the host file
\windows\system32\drivers\etc contains hosts

you need ADMIN privileges
First stop the client by getting a cmd prompt and enter net stop "dns client" (exactly as shown)
now cd to \windows\system32\drivers\etc

del hosts
then recreate it using echo "" >hosts
(that is two consecutive double-quotes without anything between)

now you should clear the event viewer log containing the error and follow up with
net start "dns client"

For some reason today my PC immediately shutdown and restarted when I was playing the Wakfu game. I had 4 clients of the game running along side my browser, and some other applications. I am not sure what caused it but I find it odd that it shut down since this is relatively a new machine. I am assuming it's the recent high temperatures since I do not use the AC in my room. This is the second time my PC shutdown on me where the first time it was a BSOD but I cannot remember what had caused it.

Attached you will find my Log File. I'd greatly appreciate any help with this issue as I am still shocked that my PC just randomly shutdown.

Hi Folks,

I'm hoping someone can help me with these damned DNS errors (event 1014). I started getting these about 6 months ago and they became especially noticeable while playing SWTOR back then. They seem to occur more often when playing an online game but also occur when browsing the web, see one of my screenshots to get an idea of the frequency.

I checked the windows help page ( and I have no idea what they're talking about. I tried the simple fix which was disabling IPv6 (no luck). I dunno what a "spanning tree portfast" setting is on my router and I didn't want to go messing around with the registry for their first fix when I have no idea what I'm doing.

The error seems kinda vague which I guess explains the multiple fixes, it has listed different URLs too, teredo is just the most recent, I looked that up when it first showed up and it was indeed something to do with IPv6.

Any ideas would be appreciated, this has been going on way too long and it's not fixing itself unfortunately. I'm a total amateur at this kind of stuff so respond as if i'm a child

It seems your system is trying to get a ipv6 dhcp response from somewhere..

I would suggest to disable ipv6 on your network adapter and see if the error continues.

I recently switched from Verizon Fios to Brighthouse Cable (time warner) internet as I was really not using all the bandwidth I was paying for before. Unfortunately I have had nothing but problems in the month since installation.

After significant troubleshooting I have alleviated several of the internal network issues I had with the new modem, but am still having a DNS problem. Essentially at seemingly random intervals, or immediately if I open bittorrent, websites will not connect. I reset and renew and dns flush but nothing helps. Some programs will stay connected (skype, dropbox, etc) and some will not (games seem to suffer the same as the web browsing). Resetting the modem does not seem to help.

The diagnostic report through windows troubleshooting says its a problem communicating with the DNS server.

The router receives dynamic IP and DNS information, so I can't change anything there, but I put some free dns servers on this computer's list instead of finding them automatically. This did not help though. This leads me to believe this is some networking communications issue, not a problem with the DNS servers themselves.

I disabled DHT in Bittorrent but the problems still occur, so I just have stopped using it. Oddly enough when I open it on another computer I can still browse the internet on this one, though the dns problems do become more frequent even when its open on another computer.

To emphasize the point though: the problem occurs at seemingly r... Read more

A:Constant bsod while playing video game

"It's not a true crash, in the sense that the bluescreen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception".

Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OSs like XP to crash.

As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds.

If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.

If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating.

Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU.

Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures make a difference.

If so, it might be as simple as dust buildup and subsequently inadequate cooling.

I would download cpu-z and gpu-z (both free) and keep an eye on the video temps CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

My laptop starts to run slowly and freeze then crash and finally won't start (chkdsk runs in an endless loop and the startup repair says its repairing disk errors for up to 6 hours before I get sick of it and turn it off. If I do a full destructive recovery of windows it works fine for a a couple of weeks then starts the whole process again. I'm guessing because it CAN work fine its not a hardware issue and it's something i install after the reboot. AVG perhaps?

I know it's a bit vague but all I really need to know is is it time for a new computer or does this sound like a software issue?

I can provide more details (spec etc.) if required.

I apologize if this has already been addressed elsewhere but I haven't found it, so here goes: my system has been running just fine for a long time now and all ofa sudden I have had a whole series of BSODs. I've seen "Bad Pool Header", "Page file in non-paged area", and a few others but the most common one is "Memory Management". I went in and removed the most recent item I had installed (a PCI SATA expansion card) and the accompanying drivers but this had no effect. I downloaded/ran memtest for hours and found not even a single error. I have used several different HDDs with fresh Windows installs and again the problem recurs. I have eliminated memory/hard drives/corruption/bad drivers as the causes but the problem persists. I am at my wits end here, if anyone can help me with this problem I would be most grateful. Thanks, Kris.

Hi All

I hope I am posting this in the right place. My PC, running XP, has been crashing around once a day for several months. I seem to have been keeping the problem under control through good spring-cleaning until now, but suddenly it has got a lot worse - today it has crashed around 20 times and I can no longer even run Disk Cleanup or Registry mechanic without it crashing.

I have run AVG Anti-virus and Anti-spyware, both of which are clean. I have also run CCleaner (without Advanced options).

I am familiar with the usual diagnostic tools - HijackThis, Panda, Housecall, etc so I can run those as needed, provided the system doesn't crash. I really don't want to have to reinstall, but it's beginning to look as though that may be the only solution.

If anyone can help me I would be very grateful.

Thank you!

All of your BSODs are Stop Code 0x124; which usually means they are hardware caused.

However, all the crashes (at least the ones we have minidumps for) also occurred within seconds of the system start, while the OS was loading drivers. This suggests that there could be a driver issue?

Turn the driver verifier on:

When you get more BSODs please follow these instructions - Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions - Windows 7 & Vista - Tech Support Forum

Also run these hardware tests:

Memtest - Instructions:

Download the ISO (or the .exe for USB drives) from here Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

Then (if you have chosen the ISO) burn the ISO using ImgBurn: The Official ImgBurn Website

Boot from the CD/USB and run the test (at least 7 passes per test) with only one stick of RAM in place at a time.

It is a time consuming process but it is the only way to be sure it isn't a RAM fault.

For your final test, run the test with all the RAM in place.

CPU - Stress Test with Prime95 - Windows 7 Forums (run the Blend test as well as the SmallFFTs test)

Okay, so I've been talking to one of my uncles, who is a computer expert and we have discussed the potential causes to frequent PC crashes. Our first thoughts were registry problems, and after installing a registry cleaner and subsequently cleaning registries (blah blah blah) the crashes continued. Then I realized something: my graphics card sucks. Its an Nvidia GT 220... and I run dual monitors. I also discovered that my power supply is a maximum of 300W, and that my crappy graphics card requires a minimum of 350W alone, and that doesn't even include my RAT7 usb mouse and Das Keyboard (also USB).

I am very unfamiliar with the intricacies of the ways PCs work, so excuse my ignorance. Could a potential cause of my crashes be this inadequate power supply or my graphics card? My main question though, is why hasn't my PC just failed to start if the power requirements so exceeded the available power, and also why didn't these crashes occur immediately after I bought the PC a year ago or so (the crashes started only a few weeks ago).

My computer came secondhand, from my ex, so I don't know a huge amount about it beyond that he knew what he was doing when it came to computers. It has worked for awhile now, a few months, but recently it started constantly crashing programs and my video game world of warcraft. My friend said to use the windows xp disks to reinstall windows so i did, but the problem is still happening. Firefox will crash and so does the game, and sometimes random programs. I don't know much about computers, I'm not a complete idiot, but I could really use some help and I was told this website had helpful people.

Every time I try to render any video or 3D effects the software will crash or my computer will freeze! (usually after about 5-30 seconds)

I've been trying to pinpoint when this first started happening and the closest I can come up with was after installing the newest version of windows.

Help please! As a teacher I do video and 3D effects for my class, but I can no longer render anything on my computer.

Thank you for any help you can provide. My system is as follows...

Windows 10
AMD FX(tm)-8350 Eight-Core Processor 4.00GHz
16 GB Ram
64-bit OS, x64-based Display

Hi Thane101,

Couple questions.
Do the crashes occur when not running your video/3D modeling programs? Have you made sure to update your video drivers since installing the newest windows?

My system will freeze up every now and then and a loud buzzing sound will come out of the speakers. Sometimes it seems completley random, but I've noticed a few patterns. It seems to happen while I'm watching youtube videos, or when I'm producing a video using camtasia studio. Also when I play batman arkham city, it will freeze up during the cut scenes.

I'm completley stumped as to how to fix this and it's really driving me crazy. If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated

My computer crashes to mostly anything related to my video card, or if i run some programs like norton antivirus, or if a window freezes and un freezes my computer will crash a few minutes after.
I disabled automatic restart so i get the blue screen. I have an E Machine computer, xp, im not sure how to check how much ram.

i tried the video card stress test and my computer crashed soon as the world got big enought to cover most of the screen. If someone could help that would be great. thanks.

Download everest ( link provided below ) for your system specs.

Freezes might be generated by a videocard problem ( heat or defect ) - defective ram, overheated cpu, malware. And since you have an e-machines computer you have to change your power supply whether it is fine or not. The problem itself might be the power supply too.

If you can ;
-try a different ram
-try a different videocard

Open up your case and clean up the heatsink and fans ( psu fan - cpu fan and anyothers if you have any ) and your videocard fan ( if you have any )

Check for malware. Click on greyknights link below and follow the instructions. A good clean up never hurts.

Post back with your progress info.

My BF3 constantly crashes my computer. A couple of minutes into the game the screen freezes and there's an annoying audio loop. The computer is unusable and I have to hard boot it.
Doing some research I've found that the issue is related to the audio, turning off my audio drivers or using a USB headset prevents the crashes, but it's annoying that I can't use my normal speakers.
I've seen many threads about people with the same issue, but they all have Realtek drivers and I have an AMD and Conexant driver.
My brother has the same computer, he does not encounter this issue. I used to have the standard Microsoft drivers because I messed around with them, now I'm using the same one my brother is, didn't help.
Any help is appreciated, thank you.

There are a series of driver updates for graphics and audio (specifically ATI Radeon) which took place in Oct / Nov 2011. Check your drivers and see if you have the latest updates for your specific hardware. That would likely solve the issues you are describing. I've had to update a number of mine in order to get BF3 to run smoothly. You can try DriverMax (free version gives you 2 drivers per day) which will identify all of your current drivers, show you the updated drivers and give you limited access for free while trying to convince you to send them $ and get the Pro version. I use the freebie. Luck to ya!

Hi Guys,

Just installed my 3rd system onto Vista Ultimate x64. However, there is now a constant problem of when trying to execute downloaded programs (ie AVG, latest Directx) the application just crashes out in an AppCrash error.

I have tried the UAC and permissions and SAFE MODE but nothing.

I have read through varius Techs by MS but to no avail and have even done clean re-installs but still the same problem.

I have read somewhere that Vista likes different files to be ordered, is ht correct and would anybody have an idea of what is happening?

Any help grately welcome.

Firstly hello all, I'm new here, but was active over on the 7 Forums. I have ran into my first ever problem with a build, I keep getting crashes on the load screen of all games. The Error message is that pesky Kernal 41, event category 63, everything driver and BIOS wise is fully up to date.

My specs are:
I5 4690k ( stock )
MSI Z97 gaming 5 Bios 1.5
2 x R9 290's ( Stock )
4 x 4gb sticks Team Group 2666 RAM
4 x SSD's
Superlower Leadex 1000w
Fully custom water cooled

All items are new, to this build. So far I've checked all connections, and removed any cable extensions just to be safe, I've ram Memtest86 and all comes back fine. Also Valley benchmark runs about 50% of the time, the other times it causes a crash also. It isn't actually blue screening, it is just kicking me out of the game, and restarting, but then again it could be but the restart process is so fast I'm not seeing it. Cheers guys please help. I should mention that, it happens with Crossfire enabled or disabled, and the temp on the GPU, during Valley when it was actually running was 45 max, and the VRM's were, in the 50's, one strange ge thing though according to GPU-Z, during Valley the GPU usage was at " 0 "

Uninstall Daemon software and remove its driver (sptd.sys) with this tools --> DuplexSecure - Downloads
Because sptd.sys have some issue with Windows 7 and for alternative software you may use MagicISO.

Then you have 2 Antivirus that may conflicting each other.
My suggestion is remove both antivirus (McAfee and Avast) then replace it with MSE because MSE could running better in windows kernel.

Now I have the problem again and its been happening for over 2 weeks, it's passable and doesn't bother me that much but now my computer won't start or boot up at all.
It goes as such, turn on computer, loads windows, three minutes later it crashes and then won't boot up windows until I turn it off for a minute or two then the problem starts again. Could you please help me to solve or locate this problem.
I don't think it's a virus or trogan as I have the latest anti virus software, I also have the latest drivers for my motherboard, bios and video card.

About a year ago I purchased a new Computer, Acer AM5100 with Vista Home Premium installed. I did some upgrades because the stock video card was awful and I use my computer mostly for gaming. I bought a XFX GeForce 8600 DDR3 256mb and installed it, also upgraded from 2gb of ram to 3. This was about a month after I bought the PC and then I had very few problems if any. Now, I crash daily. When I come home from school and get on my computer from its...well whatever you called when it goes to black screen after a while..and it just freezes for a split second and then bam, blue screen and countdown to shutdown. I mostly play World of Warcraft and sometimes I'll get totally random crashes while running it. Literally nothing but WoW running and I just crashed. It happens on simple websites like facebook or espn etc etc...I have no idea what the problem is but its really frustrating(crashed once after I had got about 3 pages into a essay...). I want to downgrade to XP but I'd rather build a new computer then spend 200 on XP, actually I'd prefer not to spend anything since i spent about 700 on this computer...If anyone can help me it would be appreciated.

Hello all.

Today i've been having a ton of problems with Windows. I found some spyware and a virus on my harddrive, which I managed to remove after a great deal of annoyance. Now however, explorer will frequently give me errors, especially when I try to open a folder or visit some websites(what ones is does this on is totally random). I've run my virus scan, adaware, spybot, etc several times and they all come up clean. The error I receive is either "explorer.exe encountered an error and must close", or one about "to protect your computer from harm, explorer.exe must be closed", both of these are followed by an error about DrWatsonpostmortem encountering an error and having to close. Any way I can fix this? I've tried restore points, but they don't work.

My desktop is stuck in a constant loop of restarting, failing, freezing, you name it. This morning I checked it, after it had been on for a few days, and it was frozen on the "windows failed to reboot, what mode would you like to boot in?" screen.

I restarted, and it blue-screened 7 or 8 times after loading past windows load and into the Welcome screen. It automatically rebooted itself, so I didn't get to see the screens long enough, but each blue screen was different. It was like Windows was loading one step farther every time. At one point it ran a chkdsk then attempted to boot again. Finally, it loaded entirely into Windows, told me I'd had some serious errors, and let me submit them. Then explorer slowed down and finally froze as I viewed an IE page and tried to open up Control Panel.

The only blue screen I really caught was one error about vasprint.sys. Another looked like the typical long error digit message, and it ended in 00000A. The serious error report warns about winlogon.exe.

Is this a problem with my registry? I have had significant problems with Windows since I re-installed it. I've reinstalled Windows maybe 5 times due to increased issues with the system.

I had to reinstall because I think I was infected by a virus when I updated mods to an online video game I play. I did a full format of the master harddrive, and a quick format of the slave. I've since only installed windows on the master. I may also have my wires cro... Read more

To be honest, I would not have reinstalled Windows. Your original problem sounds random in nature; which is normally caused by bad RAM. This is specifically true during start up.

Hey guys, I've got an ongoing problem now on my Windows XP laptop that is getting worse and worse. The problem started about 3 months ago, when my computer would randomly restart whenever it wanted to, and then it would give me a "serious error has occured" message upon logging into Windows. I just let it go, but there was a point that it was really bad where I was about to do something about it. However, it magically stopped occuring and hadn't been giving me much trouble. That period was probably only for half a month at most, and during that period, my computer would still restart, but just not as frequently. Now, the problem has progressed to the point where I can hardly use my computer - it restarts every 3 minutes. Thus, I'm rushing to fit this entire post in! I've logged on to the event viewer under system to see what type of system errors are causing this. There are 2 main errors that keep occuring and causing my computer to restart, 1st the most frequent one, says the following:

"The CMS PortIO Service service failed to start due to the following error:

Hello all
I'm fairly new to this site and did a lot of reading to see if this has already been posted but I couldn't find it, so here goes...

Every time I boot lately (last 2 -3 weeks) I get error messages, the first one said missing "NLTDR", and now the newest one is missing "BOOTMGR". I have tried system restore, repair my computer, tried using cmd for "chkdsk /r" and no luck.

My computer will boot but only if I leave in either the repair disc created by windows itself, or my win 7 home upgrade dvd. And even then I have to chose which operating system to use and it has windows seven showing 3 times in a row.

I really don't want to have to format and start all over again because it's about 2 days work for me because of Mcafee installation is compllicated (just trust me on this one) and all my ISP info has to be done with a tech.

How can I fix any boot up problems please????

Hello danger47, welcome to Seven Forums!

Post a snip first then have a look at this tutorial at the link below to get some info for starters and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times

Before we make any specific recommendations will you please post a snip/screen-shot of the entire Windows disk management drive map with a full description as to which drive/partition is which, so we can see what you have going on as there may be a fairly simple way to resolve the situation.

In the Windows start menu right click computer and click manage, in the left pane of the "Computer Management" window that opens click disk management and post a maximized snip of that. How to Upload and Post a Screenshot and File in Seven Forums

Ever since I got the W32.Kwbot.C.Worm and cleaned it out, I keep on getting these "Explorer" errors which closes all my IE windows and the icons on the task bar, which are next to the time. What can I do? It happens quite frequently and it's fairly annoying. No viruses were detected. Any help would be much appreciated. Here's my Hijack This log if it'll help..

I have 2 GB RAM with i3 processor running on WIN 7 64bit ultimate.

The system keeps freezing for almost a minute and then BSOD appears. I have re-installed the OS three times and still the the BSOD appears even when I'm not multitasking.

Additional Info:
my SMPS makes a screeching noise before the whole system freezes. The screeching can last for 5-15 seconds. Sometimes it just goes on and on and I have to smack cabinet part where the SMPS is located.

Here's the dump file below.

A:Constant Bluescreen Errors

Please follow the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions so we can get all of the appropriate files we need.

Probably caused by : memory_corruption ( nt!MiRelocateImagePfn+29 )
Given the dump file you posted, I am not surprised on seeing this considering you just reinstalled windows. Run a RAM - Test with Memtest86+
Make sure you run it for atleast 8 hours!

Post back results.

Opening a program sometimes results in this Error "[PROGRAM] has encountered an error and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"

Programs that Do This:

VLC Media Player (when I close it)
Probably more but i haven't tested them.

This has never happened before. I just noticed this quite a long while ago. It was I think a couple of days after I got my Razer Diamondback Mouse. I have not modified anything in the system after that but I did do some editing a LONG time ago. Like a year ago I tuned my PC using tweaks from a site called TweakXP. I have also modified my "Services" to a safe setting on each using Black Viper's guide. I have reinstalled everything and still the problem occurs. I have scanned with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and SUPERAntiSpyware and nothing happens.

hi guys
for about 2 months i keep getting BSODs every 10 15 minutes, i googled the issue and i didnt get quite a good explanaiton.
In an older post..i am not sure but i believe on this forum...there was a guy who sayd that it could be from overheating
He suggested Speedfan to see the temperatures of your pc and see if this is the problem
now...i downloaded the program and i got this:|
GPU: 55-60C -on idle about 70-75 in a game
Temp 1: 127C constant
Temp 2: 127C constant
(those 2 i believe there are bugs or somth...otherwise i dont see how my computer wont just go in flames from second to second)
Temp 3:34C
Temp 1(again...dunno why?!):43C
Core 0: 52C
Core 1: 54C
Core: 55C
(those 3 cores also in using above 50-60% of pc around 70-75C)

Now i will post my computer dxdiag

A:Constant BSODs on XP SP2, different errors

First, we here at TechSpot strongly recommend everyoneone with XP update to Service Pack 3 especially for security reasons. That being said...

Second, 127c = 260 degrees farenheit! That is way too hot! Little wonder you have BSODs. You probably need to reapply thermal paste to the cpu and in need of a aftermarket cooler for your cpu. If you don't have the technical know-how find someone that does. Once doing that then do the following below, but only after you take care of your very, very serious heat issue. You will ruin that cpu if you don't.

Your minidump files do not list anything specific as the cause. However, with your constant BSODs and the variety of error codes that you are receiving, experience has told us that your issue may very well be memory corruption. Therefore you?ll need to run memtest on your RAM.

See the link below and follow the instructions. There is a newer version than what is listed; use the newer. If you need to see what the Memtest screen looks like go to reply #21. The third screen is the Memtest screen.

Step1 - Let it run for a LONG time. The rule is a minimum of 7 Passes; the more Passes after 7 so much the better. The only exception is if you start getting errors before 7 Passes then you can skip to Step 2.

There are 8 individual tests per Pass. Many people will start this test before going to bed and check it the next day.

If you have errors you have corrupted memory and it needs to be replaced... Read more

My computer has been acting very weird for abput 3 days. I installed the newest version of Firefox and I began getting error messages of "bad Image." I uninstalled firefox and the messages still occured. I then scanned my computer with Panda Security and MBAM and cleared it of any trojans, viruses, etc. I restarted it and still the messages occured. When I tried to access internet explorer, windows media player and some other programs it would not let me access them. I then had it on safe mode and it shut off itself and when I restarted it a system repair thing came up and started repairing. It then asked did I want to restore the system. I clicked to restore the system and it went back to repairing. It did not ask for a date or anything. it restarted and the messages still popped up. I contacted hp support and they told me to do a system restore and I did it twice and it did not work. I'm hoping someone can help me because I am falling behind in my college studies! Please help me not punch my computer in the face!

BTW, these are some of the names that came on the error message:

mui start menu - bad image
tv agent
tsm agent

A:Constant Ie Script Errors

Hello csinchicago and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I don't see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean. If the issues started after an install or upgrade to AIM then most likely that is what is causing the issues. The HijackThis forum deals exclusively with virus and malware issues. HijackThis does not have the capability to analyze performance, hardware or application issues. For browser related issues I would suggest posting to the Web Browsing/Email and Other Internet Applications forumThe techs in that forum specialize in matters pertaining to internet application issues. Let them know that you have been to this forum and that no malware was found. When posting to any other forum, do not post a HijackThis log or the post will simply be moved back to this forum for infection analysis. That is what HijackThis is used for and that is what we specialize in here in this forum. Also, when posting in any other forum for assistance, give as much detail as possible regarding any issues that are occurring. The more information they have, the better the techs can analyze the issue and make any recommendations for resolving it.Cheers.OT

Ever since I got a replacement video card from Zotac, my newly installed Windows 7 have been suffering from BSOD errors every now and then.

At first, my Windows installation tries stuck at the step of Expanding Files (up to roughly 9%). After I re-plugged the RAMs, it finally installed correctly.

But after that I have been getting system freezes and consequent BSODs quite frequently. (0XF4 most of the time, and none of them were able to successfully generate the dump file.) When the freeze first happened, the application I was using (most of the time Google Chrome) got stuck, but I was still able to minimize it. After some clicks on the app icons on the task bar, something bad happened, then I got a BSOD. Sometimes the whole desktop disappeared just as explorer.exe was terminated. Sometimes, it is an warning message saying bla bla bla memory address could not be read for certain application (Google Chrome in the most cases, I was usually surfing on the web when that happened).

During the automatic reboots of BSOD, the Intel RAID driver interface was showing Error Occurred for one of my drives. (I haven't seen any warning on the other drive so far.) But I was still able to boot into windows. Then I would reset that disk to normal in the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) software. But it would still occasionally popped out a disk failure warning saying that same drive failed.

At first, I thought it might be the hard drives... Read more

My problem all started when I was just causually streaming a video online. All of a sudden I hear a loud buzzing sound and my PC freezes. I didnt think anything much of it until I reset my PC. After I reset my PC I wasnt even able to get the BIOS to boot. After a lot of playing around, I was finally able to boot the PC again.

I then re formatted my HDD and did a complete fresh install of Windows 7x64. I thought for sure this would solve my problem, but I was wrong. The Blue screen errors just kept coming. I then re installed Windows a 2nd time, and it still didn't fix my problem.

I can log into Windows (My desktop) randomly... But if I do manage to get in. It's no longer than 5-10 mins before the next BSOD.

After I get the BSOD, my PC resets and then I cant get any display on my monitor... Or my bios will just keep rebooting itself. The only way to get back into windows is to turn my computer off for a while, then come back and for some reason that allows me to get back into Windows for a little while.

I'll attatch the minidump files so hopfully someone with experience can help me.

I'll really appreciate if someone can help me solve this issue. It's been going on for weeks now and I just really wanna get my PC back! :(

Hello all,

I must apologise because I feel I am having to post one problem after another since installing Windows 7.

AMD 64 X2 4600+
AsusRock 939N68PV - GLAN board
2 Gb RAM
Nvidia 7950 512 Mb graphics card.

Windows 7 64 bit installed on one HDD with system partition and separate data partition
Windows XP 32 bit installed on other HDD

Windows 7 is the OS on my default boot drive.
I need XP for a few legacy programs, and access that OS using F11 at boot to select the XP HDD .

Having installed Windows 7 about a week ago, I have been getting occasional BSD errors 0x0000007F. However, they are becoming more frequent and this morning its happened 8 times in an hour. In fact, I'm posting this via my XP setup because Windows 7 is now unfit for purpose in my view.

A search suggested the 07F error is usually hardware or drivers. I have checked, hardware, updated drivers without any improvement. My XP system which is using the same hardware is absolutely stable, but Windows 7 is failing usually within 5 mins of start up. I am assuming, that if XP is stable, then surely my hardware is OK ie PSU, RAM, temperature etc etc ?

I installed the Nvidia 64 bit graphics drivers from the Nvidia site in my Windows 7 setup. However, I still get an error in Device Manager showing the "Coprocessor" driver is not installed if thats of any relevence.

Really at a loss with this.
