No internet after large windows update

Q: No internet after large windows update

Hi everyone,

Im new here and just stumbled on this site, and Im glad I did.

I had a virus, and am pretty sure it is gone. I have done alot of scanning with malwarebytes, nod32, etc. all in safe mode. And I think it is all gone.

Anyways I did a PC recovery (F10 while pc is starting up) and when I do this of course it wipes out all the windows updates that have been loaded up over the years. So there are 99 updates to reload up. When I load them all up at once I have no internet access and I get messages that pop up on restart as in blah blah blah C:/windows/microsoft.net/framework/v2.050727/mscorwks.dll could not be loaded. Also C:/ programfiles/disc/discover.exe cant be loaded either. Before I load all the updates, the pc works fine.

Any solutions out there? Am I just loading too many updates at once on the pc?

My pc is compaq with amd athalon 64 processor 3500+ 991 MHz with 2GB RAM

Thanks in advance for the help

A: No internet after large windows update

Try System Restore to a point prior to all the updates.

Running SP3 standalone will decrease the number of updates you will need.

This morning, Aug 21 sunday, windows 10 did a very large update.  Now after my laptop has been on for 20 minutes, or so......the screen just goes blank (or very dark blue).  Nothing brings it back.  I have to do a hard shutdown....hold in the power button until it goes off, and then start it back up. Was there something in this update that has caused the problem??  It ran fine before the update. thanks......Pete

I have Windows 7 64bit. After installing the latest updates from Windows update, all my icons on my desktop are HUGE. The ones on the start menu are normal and all text is normal. The resolution is set at 1600x900 (highest) and the display setting is on smallest (100%). How do I fix this?

Following some updates to Win 8.1, I am encountering problems with MS Access displaying GIF files on reports on some machines (nominally at the same update state). By moving the Access database to a machine that is not currently showing the problem, I have been able to prove that it is not the Access db causing the problem - something I previously suspected as machines with Windows Update turned off or those that have been moved back to 8.0 (plus those running earlier versions of Windows) display the GIF files correctly in Access.

The error message we are getting is;-
?2114 <program name> doesn?t support the format of the file ?d:\PF_Sign\M11_V2846.gif,? or the file is too large. Try converting the file to BMP or GIF format.?
where M11_V2846.gif is a variable file name which links to the Image frame on the current report page. All the files are very small (normally not more than 5kb) and are already in a gif format (they are an image version of an INK signature created using a standard utility on tablet machines).

If the GIF file is viewed outside of MS Access, it is displayed without a problem.

The problem is:-

I am not sure if this thread should be here in Op/Sys or in where browser problems are found ...

I am running WinXP SP3 on a IBM T40. The browser is FireFox 20.0.1 IE8 is installed but never used. I have recently noticed that I am running out of disk space on C:\ (opsys and programs only on that drive). When I poked around to see what was happening, I noticed that there was 4GB of content in Internet Temp Files in an "IE5" folder. This was surprising because all browsers are set to delete everything (history, cache, ...) on exit. I deleted them all (using CleanUp!). I checked space on C:\ and it was back to where it should be. Several days later the same problem -- 4GB+ of content in the same area.

I run AVG security s/w and manually run Malware Bytes and SpyBot once a week. There is no indication of any malware. The only recent change/install is an update to Firefox 20.x

Any thoughts on what might be going on?

Hello Everyone,

I have a problem recently that's been driving me absolutely nuts.

Problem:
Whenever I try to download a large file, be it through a video game patcher or utorrent, my computer's internet connection goes down completely shortly after the download starts. When I say down, I mean I get the yellow exclamation point in the bottom right. When I troubleshoot my connection, windows gives me the following error, "Problems found - Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (primary DNS server)". It's very difficult to restore internet when this happens, usually requiring me to use System Restore to an earlier save point. When I do this, the problem still remains if I try and download again.

I should mention my ISP says everything is good on their end, and my modem looks as if everything's fine. Also, I'm able to normally browse the internet, listen to Pandora, and watch Hulu It's only when I try to download a large file that this happens.

Solutions I've Tried:
Scanned for Malware C: (Main) & D: (SSD, currently being used to backup important docs) = 0 results
Changed computers DNS settings to "Open" and Google DNS addresses
Disabled IPV6
Receive Side Scaling - Disabled
Changed Ethernet Controller Power Management Settings - Not Allow
Updated Ethernet Controller Driver (Uninstalled and Reinstalled as well)
Bypassed Router
Replaced Ethernet cable
Reformatted computer
Reset Modem (using that small button in the back)

Is there a app or a website or something that can send large files?

So I have about a dozen files that I want to send to a friend in another state. Ranging from about 100 MB to 5 GB. The total of all the files together is roughly 26 GB. One Drive won't let me upload anything over 4 GB. Plus it takes forever.

What I can use to send all these files?

I was looking into this. I don't know how good it is though:

In IE, font is so large that a normal webpage no longer fits on the entire screen--you have to scroll left and right to view the whole page.

Try View--> Zoom --> select 100% (150% or more may already be selected)

A:Font too large in Internet Explorer

If it is actually the font size, have you tried:

View --> Text Size --> The choose the font size, like medium, smaller, smallest, etc. ?

Since you say you selected percents in your posts, you were actually zooming in and out rather than adusting the font size.

Why not burn that stuff onto a double layer DVD and send it via snail mail ?

Or install Drop Box for both of you (Drop Box free allows for up to 2 GB IIRC)

Either way you will have to split the File.
via an archive program like 7zip or WinRar

I've recently switched from Verizon 2 Mbps to Time Warner 15 Mbps (both were wireless), and installed a new router that I bought off the tech guy while he was there. After setting up the router with Warner and hooking it up, I noticed a strange problem with this new internet connection:

Whenever I'd download a large file, say larger than a few MB, my internet would lock up and crash - forcing me to disconnect from and then reconnect to the wireless signal to resolve the problem. This happens either during large file downloads, or heavy traffic moments such as loading multiple webpages at once. So, whenever my internet connection dies on me, a quick windows diagnostic says that the DNS cannot be contacted because there is no ethernet connection. What's more, though, is that this apparently only happens with my wireless connection, because the downstairs computer which is hooked up to the router with an ethernet cable never experiences this problem.

This has me genuinely confused here. Is my computer simply forgetting for a split second that it uses wireless and just defaults to looking for a LAN connection? Or is this a problem with the router, or the service provider itself - Time Warner - since I never had this problem with Verizon.

A:Internet cuts out whenever downloading large files

from Verizon 2 Mbps to Time Warner 15 Mbps (both were wireless)Click to expand...

Please educate me on this. Verizon has both DSL and mobile wireless, and 2 Mbps sounds reasonable for either. But I thought that Time Warner was only (coax) cable? And 15 Mbps download sounds to me like a cable service, not mobile wireless and not fixed wireless.

What networking equipment (brand and model) do you have? You mentioned a "modem" and a "router." Anything else?

Simply drag and drop the folder(s).

Might want to do a copy first, verify that everything did indeed get copied, and then delete the originals.

Hi, I recently had to upgrade my harddrives when I kept getting a "No load past start screen" error. I pinpointed the area to one of the harddrives and replaced it accordingly. After doing a fresh install of the OS and everything, I noticed my computer was a little sluggish and the internet was slow. Having being a little.. idiotic about reprogramming computers, I asked a friend who works on computers to fix it. He did the same thing that I did, but reinstalled the drivers differently and the internet worked perfectly after that.

After getting the computer back, I started installing my games and noticed the internet kept disconnecting on my laptop alone (While the rest of the house has internet) and that it would usually spike at a certain point then drop to a 0kbs download and the internet icon would show the "Internet has disconnected" icon. Thinking it was just a minor setback I didn't think anything of it, well its been a month now and it is still disconnecting.

I have tried updating the drivers, but to no avail as they're all up to date (Or so it seems) and ran virus scans/reg cleaners. If anyone has any tips please help!

Hi Hammyobob.

The internet discunnection at random may be caused by a lot of factors. Some (hardware and software related) of them are within your control and some are from the part of your ISP.

Can you let us see some info?

upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.
Click on the start button
Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.
Upload the list of all the third party drivers Using NirSoft DriverView :
Download and execute Driverview
View > Hide Microsoft Drivers
Edit > Select all
File > Save Selected Items
In the Save dialog, Set the path to desktop, Put "Driverview" in the name field, and save.
Zip the .txt file and upload it.
These two files will help us to have a closer look at the things that is within your control.

Hello,

This is my first time on your forums. I have tried everything, but my DIY has reached its wit's end. I am running a Windows XP (using Mozilla Firefox as my browers) system with a wireless DSL connection. I have been plagued by issues and I am left unable connect to the internet while still had an IP address . . . When I logged into Windows, I got a dialog box warning that mmwnd.exe was unable to load. I searched online for solutions and was lead to the spyware removal software PREVX 1.

I installed this and it found several infections, which it was able to isolate and remove. However, I was still unable to connect. Occasionally PREVX would trip on a piece of malware it called TOTOUR.EXE, upon finding this and isolating it (although it never showed in up as isolated) I was able to connect to the internet. However, when PREVX was unable to locate it on a restart I still had no connection.

So I again searched online, and saw that i should remove TOTOUR.EXE with killbox. This didn't work, apparently.

Further searching lead me to another virus checker called Superantispyware Pro. I installed this and ran it. It found, around 200 of pieces of malware/tracking cookies on my machine that it removed without incident. (To be extra sure, I ran it in safe mode too. It found a couple of hundred more(!). I scanned another time, and I actually think that it's finding the same pieces of malware but unable to remove them.

So this is where I am at. I have no internet... Read more

Okay, so i've looked all over the internet for some one with the same problem and found one or two threads with similar issues but none had any replies.

Issue: While playing games on my laptop (Like World of Warcraft and other such MMOs) my computer will stop receiving wireless signals. This happens usually about an hour or so of playing said game. The only way to get my laptop to get wireless internet again is to restart the laptop. I have this problem at multiple houses so i know its not the wireless routers. The only way i found on my own to ignore the issue is to use a ether net cord and connect to the router that way, but with the new internet company we have i can no longer do so because we had to move the router. Since spending money is more or less impossible i was hoping some one might have had a similar problem and resolved it.

I was thinking it may be a temperature issue since it usually happens when my laptop starts to get warm and the computer fan inside kicks on.

I use a: Compaq Presario c700 Notebook.
Windows Vista Home Premium (32bit)
broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN (Wireless device i think)

I'm no computer genius so if you need more info about my computer or something let me know. This has been a real problem for me and i really hope to have it resolved.

A:Playing large MMO's causes my laptop to stop recieving wireless internet.

Hi Flyheight1,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Please follow the instructions in Network Posting Tips and see if that helps (specifically step three) and, if not, perhaps the IPCONFIG will provide some clues.

Please download Speccy Speccy - System Information - Free Download and then post the exact detailed information about your wireless card - you probably gave the right information but this may provide additional data so I can find the EXACT card. I'd like to check its specifications and limitations.

As far as temperature goes, here are some options to check that (and in some cases, quite a few more things) to see if you are running so hot even the fan cannot compensate for it. If temperatures are within acceptable limits for that computer, then we can at least rule that out as a factor. Check and Monitor Computer (CPU and GPU) Temperature, Voltage or Fan Speed ? My Digital Life. I believe most are free, but if not, don't spend money on this - get one of the free options.

Go to Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Event Viewer and try to find the error that occurs when you lose the connection and need to reboot (there WILL be an error for that). It should be in the System section. If necessary, wait until it happens again and then check as soon as you log back in as it will be a relatively recent event and perhaps easier to find. Click on the error and then on the details tab and copy what is there and paste it to your next reply. This may help us identify the... Read more

Hi,

when I download large files (>a few GB) without throttling my download speed to about 300kB/s my internet connection dies for a few minutes. At regular downloadspeed (~1.6 MB/s) it dies at around 500MB, at slower speeds it seems to get a bit further before halting. (600kB/s gets me to around 750MB, 300kB/s finished the last download successfully, file was ~3GB)

I remain connected to the router (packets received/sent still going strong) but I can't access the internet and if I use the windows troubleshooter it tells me IP configuration was invalid or default gateway unavailable.

I googled the problem and the only tips I found were "throttle your download speed" (works, but that's not a good solution) and "disable 'allow other network users to disable connection'" which did nothing.

I get the same problem on my laptop, but when the internet on my PC is crashed I can still access the web from my laptop and vice versa.

Thanks in advance for you help!

A:Internet dies for a few minutes when downloading large files quickly

My bet goes to router

Is your modem and router separate devices? Would your connection work if you plug the modem to computer directly?

I guess some routers have a passthrough configuration, if above is not feasible.

If all above fail try factory reset on the router. Make sure you have all the configuration details noted down, you will need them after the reset.

First post here on the SevenForums! I'm only saving the tough ones for you guys! Here's the problem:

My client's computer was infected with a virus obtained via Facebook. I removed this and multiple other infections (and I'm pretty thorough with my scanning). She gets it back, starts working on it, and apparently her devices and printers icons are blank. Not missing, like with a "blank page" icon, just... blank. Here's the kicker: it only happens with large and extra large icons. It also happens with normal folder icons. When I change it to medium or lower, they come back. I've tried rebuilding the icon cache database several times, tried sfc /scannow, tried chkdsk, tried uninstalling any recent updates, etc... There have been no hardware changes, the hard drive has been tested as good (no bad sectors), her dual monitors are at a sane resolution, and I'm confident that the viruses has been removed. Trust me -- I've tried all the obvious stuff I can think of. Thanks and Good luck!

Edit: Also, I did about 30 minutes of searching through previous threads. Couldn't find a thing, but I could have missed it...

Well you probably pulled some icon cache files off that were infected but also had the L and XL icons. If sfc didnt work you could try a repair install. It will re-install only the files with different hash marks.

Make a backup and restore point first just in case

I can't install, uninstall or update Internet Explorer.

Errors from windows update:
Code 9C48
&
Code 9C57

I've been trying literally for 3 days straight from the time I get up to the time I go to sleep to try to fix this. I don't usually post on forums about this type of thing but I really need to fix this. Internet Explorer is of course, pre-installed on my OS.

A new job (I'm a freelancer) requires me to use Internet Explorer to activate a program (Autodesk 3dsmax) -- the activation screen doesn't show up!!

In any case, thats another problem all together but to fix that I need to fix Internet Explorer, and to fix Internet Explorer I need to fix the Windows Updater & to fix that.. I do what? I've tried every single thing possible.

So I'm probably going to need a more customized solution. I'm not sure what could fix my specific problem.

Extremely sorry to have to ask for help & thank you in advance. Even if it can't be fixed I'm extremely grateful for any help or advice that can be given.

Its important I find a way to fix this fast since I'm so behind on work now, so even if theres a regular user that has any good information - anything thats fairly well hidden, tips, tricks anything -- I'd be really happy to hear it.

Hi. I am just asking this question because I need the information. I just want to know about it. I was just wondering, how would a person go about getting windows updates installed on their computer if they did not have Internet access or if they did not want to run the Windows Update utility on Microsoft's website for privacy or other reasons? Can you order a Windows Update CD or is it possible for someone who has Internet Acess to download the updates and burn them to a CD-RW for the person to install on their computer? Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A:Getting Windows Update without Internet

I don't know too much about magazines out that side of the pond, but I know that in the UK, a lot of the computer magazines put them on their cover cds

you can also download SOME but not all through the Download site

http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/ordercd.asp is the url to obtain a cd for XP SP1A in the States.

The question is how much you need them as the majority of updates are security patches, unnecessary if you aren't connected to the net

Hi

I have dell 1558 laptop with Windows 7 Home premium (supplied with laptop). I had to format my disk and reinstall OS a fresh. This laptop doesn't have any internet connection and would like to update it offline.

I remember there used to be a site with all the windows updates packaged into single file (back those XP days). Could anyone suggest if there're such packaged bundles (incl. SP1 if possible) still exist? or any other solutions??

Thanks!

A:How can I update windows 7 without Internet?

You can download the SP1 installer in ISO form from here...
Download Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) from Official Microsoft Download Centre

Other updates are more problematic, as there are no roll-ups available that I know of.
Your best option is simply to get the machine connected, and update it - then go back to being unconnected. You don't often need updates anyhow, if the machine is not connected to anything else.

I've been having a problem with a windows 7 home premium update. I have no virus's or spyware my computer runs find, but when I click update it will say 9 updates so I click update. Then when it updates they all update perfectly accept for one and it's an update for Internet Explorer 9 I have a Dell 1750 Inspiron AVG Antivirus and Firewall all included, Malewarebytes, Spybot Search & Destroy, So when I do these updates it restarts to finish them up then all of a sudden I can not connect to the internet no more, It says no signal witch there is a full bar and everything I tried clicking connect but it says limited access, So I fool around trying to fix it but it wont let me do nothing I know updates are very important for laptops but it's just wont let me online, But it would work really well before the updates is there anyway to get pass that and fix it I usually just do system restore at an earlier time before the updates cause I can never get back on the internet connected, And there is nothing wrong with the router but I know some of these updates are important thanks if anyone knows what's up.... Or how I can do the updates and fix the internet connection problem.

A:Windows 7 after update no internet.

Sometimes security programs can interfere with Windows updates. Suggest you exit the security programs
and try the updates again.

Spybot S&D does not enjoy the reputation of being one of the best security program. If MBAM is the
paid for version and not the free version, suggest you uninstall Spybot after shutting it down completely.
Or remove Spybot and install WinPatrol Free as it has some of the same features to guard your computer using
less resources.

You can install updates individually or only a select few. If you are sure the IE 9 update is causing the problem,
you can choose to install the others, reboot to verify it is the IE9 update causing the problem.

After doing the above and you are sure it is the IE9 update causing the problem, then a reinstall of IE 9
would be my next suggestion.

What is the error you get when trying to browse websites. Does it say internet access when you hover your mouse above network icon in the system tray.

Try pinging website from cmd and check if your getting a proper reply.

If it says internet access and your still unable to go online, I believe it could be a dns issue.

Open cmd from run box and in cmd box type ping 74.125.68.99 and check the ping statistics. Then again ping www.google.com and the post the details for both pings

On December 27 I noticed my computer had updates ready to install, so I installed them and rebooted. After reboot, the desktop disappeared and Windows explorer would not run. I fixed this and did another reboot, and realized I could not connect to the internet. Troubleshooting from the wireless connections gives the following problem: "Windows could not automatically detect this networks proxy settings"

I tried a system restore but that didn't help. I looked under the device manager and examine the network adapters and uninstalled all the ones that had errors (they were something like INSATAP and Teredo and Microsoft 6to4 adapter) I was told they would reinstall after reboot but they didn't. One of them (WAN Miniport IKEv2) would nog uninstall and still has an error.

The status of IPv4 and IPv6 is "Not Connected" but the wireless connection says it is enabled, even though it won't connect to the internet.

I also tried the Winsock breach reset thing in the cmd but that did nothing either.

Update today was to Internet Explorer 9. Some bars at top and bottom of window were missing, and finding the old familiar commands to put them back was different. No helpfile. No command bar at top. I looked in the Tools icon and found some menu of features, but I found no item to a helpfile. The Tools menu also showed no command or item to make display of the Favorites bar nor the Menu bar. Finally, I discovered that right-clicking the Toolbar area would bring a menu of items which included Menu, Favorites, and other toolbars. NOT Good. The company needs to adjust this. I.E. 8 was easier to use, and there was at least, a helpfile. Also: Not know if to select or not select the Smart Screen Filter to be active or not. Ive been using this one windows update site for a while and noticed more and more people having trouble with updateing Windows through IE (internet explorer). So i decided to throw it out there on how to update windows without IE ...particlarly "This free website allows users of Mozilla Firefox 0.9.3, Netscape 4.0, Mozilla Firebird 0.7, Opera 5, or K-Meleon 0.9 to keep their copy of Windows up-to-date. Newer releases of these browsers are also suitable."

YOU CANT USE IE TO UPDATE THROUGH THIS SITE!!! Download and install Mozilla firefox 1.5 or the latest final version...right now its 1.5. Or one of the above browsers, firefox is probably the more suitable and user friendly.

First go to the site and check it out...READ about it first b4 deciding to use it as your main windows update source...it provides a good ammount of info on the site.

This site in my opinion is great. One downside is that its a bit slower in adding new updates to its database...usually about a month behind...but for most thats not an issue unless your a total security freak about every little thing microsft views as a threat....read about it at the website. It also does not have a driver database, yet. So you will still want to pop on the official microsoft windows update site from time to time to see if there are any newer drivers for your system if need be. Me personally, if the drivers are working fine, LEAVE EM ALONE.

I recently got my Windows 7 Pro in the mail and I installed it last night. I've been getting back up and running and I've run into a bit of a problem.

I think I have it narrowed down. Windows update downloads some updates for my on-board Realtek network card and as soon as I restart my machine after the update, the internet won't turn on. The only way I could get it to work was to do a system restore to before the update.

Should I just skip that particular update and work with the old drivers?

Guys,

Is it good or bad, or does it make no difference to have your Virus Protection and IS on when running Windows Update? I have heard that sometimes update installs can be MISTAKEN for viruses depending on your AV/Security program. When I checked for updates today, I turned off my Norton IS. Than when I was done, I turned it back on. The reason why I asked is because when you are working with Windows Update, the updates install right after the download. What are your thoughts on this?

A:Windows update loss Internet?

No. If anything set it for home. I spoke to someone having the same problem recently. Apparently one of the updates and certain network cards (wired and wireless) don't get along. I'll look around and see if I can find a solution.

Hi, first post and I think that I need the help of a Black Belt

I have been having problems with the clock on my Sony VAIO 64bit Windows 7 machine clock. It is frequently wrong by a few seconds towards the end of the week, so I did some investigations and I set up a daily schedule task for the following actions using the instructions here Make Windows synchronize time more often

%windir%\system32\sc.exe start w32time task_started
%windir%\system32\w32tm.exe /resync

I set it to run daily, but noticed the it wasn't updating my clock. I ran it manually (right click ~ RUN). Didn't update clock, but Windows Date and Time window~Internet Time says that thesynchronisation was successful at either my sheduled time or whatever time I run the shedule task manually, but the clock is still wrong.
Incidentally, I have the same sheduled task running on my W7 32 bit machine and it works OK.

during further investigation, I read the following here.
Windows 7 Time Synchronization

I tried that and got the following messages (msg.)
At the elevated command prompt (with administrator privileges), type the following command
1. Type "w32tm /debug /disable" and press 'Enter' (net stop w32time gave an Error 5 Access denied response!)
msg. Sending disable private log command to local computer... The command completed successfully.

2. Type "w32tm /unregister" and press 'Enter' (without using the first command the second did not work!)

Hello!

I have a small 2GB Toshiba notebook that I bought used about a year ago and has never given me any problems until last week when Windows performed one of its automatic updates. After the computer restarted itself, everything was completely normal except one thing: the system fails to detect any network! All our other computers are running on this network just fine, and I am using another laptop right now with no problem.

Just to be clear, the bars on the bottom that indicate connection to a network are crossed out in red. When I mouse over it it says Not connected - No connections are available.

Troubleshooting detected this:

"Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings."

In more detail it said this:
"Failed to connect to a windows service.

Windows could not connect tothe System Event Notification Service service. This problem prevents standard users from logging on to the system. As an administrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn't respond."

I do not know where such a log would be found.

Also, System Restore, my secred weapon, did not work either.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks.

I hope someone can help me. I recently purchased a U.S. Robotics Wireless USB Adapter. The software CD told me I needed Windows XP Security Pack 1. I tried to download the SP1 but the download failed and I got "Error Code: 80070643" (w/out the quotes.) When I later tried the download again, the program wouldn't install. When I tried to download SP2, I got "Error Code: 8007F0CB". For some reason, SP3 downloads and installs.

Can anyone help? Thanks.

Running Windows XP with SP3 on 3 computers. After Feb 8, 2011 Microsoft update, each computer has one by one dropped access to internet. Each shows strong signal strength to router, but displays "Limited or no connectivity" message. Computer running windows 7 connects normally, as does Wii, iPhone4, and blu-ray. I've tried restoring xp computers to dates prior to Feb 8, but to no avail. Prior to this update everything worked fine.

Three things.

Got Windows 10 on my tablet and I've got no idea how to see if I'm connected to the internet (short of trying a browser).
Windows 7 had the wi-fi or internet icon in the bottom right hand corner but I've nothing and can't find any way of getting it.

Secondly, how do I update Windows? I Googled some things but I can't find a single option that lets me do anything such as downloading updates or even updating drivers.

Thirdly, my network card keeps saying disabled. I enable it, a box appears saying "enabling" yet the box next to the Bluetooth box stays grey and say "disabled". I can possibly access the internet but then it cuts me off saying "no connection".

A:How do I know if I'm connected to the internet / windows update

Welcome to the forum

1)
? Right click on an empty space in the Taskbar
? Settings
? Scroll down to Notification Area
? Click on Select which icons appear on the taskbar
? Change Network to On
Then
? Click on the Wifi icon in right of Taskbar
? You will see a list of available networks and the one you are connected to, a pointer hover will also show this..
Also there is turn Wifi and Airplane mode On or Off
Click on Network settings for various options

2)
? Settings
? Update & security
? Click on Check for updates
Also, there are various links to update options on that page

3)
Sorry, I don't know anything about network cards etc. Someone else will probably be able to help with this but I think they will need more information, at least the make and model of your tablet computer

On a more serious note, as the title says, I would appreciate any sort of help as I am really clueless on what to do now I have to resort using my phone to do work as I have no internet access.

Stuff ive done is power management to max performance, installed lastest 8.1 drivers from Lenovo and intel site, uninstall driver in safe mode etc...

Thanks

A:always limited internet access after windows 8.1 update

You didn't even mention if this was a wired or wireless connection?

Have you tried going to the Windows Update Center using a wired connection for the latest updates.

The Lenovo site shows wireless drivers which came out yesterday, they may make changes to them if they aren't working so check the driver version. Other than that this particular model of Lenovo is famous for having problems which I'm sure you are aware of, no magic fix that I know of.

I'm running Windows XP SP2 and overnight auto updates installed KB890830, a Malicious Software Removal Tool update. When I sat down at my system I discovered I had no Internet or Email.

I could see the other two computers on my network and both had Internet service. One system is running Vista and the other is running XP SP2 but hadn't installed KB890830 yet.

Everything checked out on my system so I did a system restore to just prior to the update being installed and my Interrnet service returned.

Has anyone else reported this update causing a loss of Internet service and is there a fix or workaround other than just dumping the update altogether?

Thanks.

Hi,

Hoping you experts can help me out. Recently I have been experiencing problems with my internet/IE. After a while if I have a high number of tabs open (6) it wont allow me to open anymore, the next one I open just has the same address in the bar as the last one and does nothing. Then when this happens outlook express no longer downloads from the mail servers. Now the tabs that I already had open work and can load any sites. But to get outlook working again I have to disconnect my internet restart my adsl and logon again. But the IE tabs still wont open up more than a few.

I have run: Spybot S&D, AdAware, Spyware Blaster, CCCleaner. Also have AVG installed.

Now all of a sudden when this happened earlier it came up with a crash error: DrWatson Postmortem Debugger. Not got a clue what this is and if this is causing the problems.

I have tried running windows updates but get the error: 0x80072EE7 and have tried all solutions on the net about the hosts file etc. Also I have only just noticed other websites will not load on my computer: http://www.evo-web.co.uk/ for example.

Any help to any of my problems is appreciaited. Many Thanks.

Windows update can download updates but no other programs can access internet. I have tried plugging in wired reinstalling drivers and using an external wifi adapter all same results.
Internet explorer says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
Google Chrome says "This webpage is not available"
Malwarebytes says when it tries to update "PROGRAM_ERROR_UPDATING (10054, 0, Connection reset by peer) An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host."
These errors occur in chrome and ie even when i try to connect to my routers gateway. I have tried to reset windows firewall using "netsh firewall reset". I have tried turning off my security software "Avast". I have ran avast boot time scan and full scan, i have also run malwarebytes full and flash scan all resulting in nothing found. However windows update can download updates.

Friday morning windows installed several updates on my work computer, most of them being Windows Defender stuff. No problems that day. Monday morning I come in and I could no longer connect to the internet, only our Local network. The first thing I tried was to system restore prior to those updates. It removed all but one (KB915597). Windows says this cannot be uninstalled once it is installed.I also googled this extensively and one of the fixes I tried was to go into Services, and both the wired connection and WLAN connection were set to manual and disabled so I set those both to automatic and restarted the computer. Still no internet access.Even booting in safemode I have no access. I also tried updating to IE8, but the same thing happened. If I rollback with system restore everything works again. all of the updates starting 94xx are ok.

I am unable to identify which update is doing this has anyone else experienced this ?

I think it must have been one of the latest patches this week that broke it. Any help withthis is appreciated.

A:Internet explorer not working after windows update

I had similar problem but finally figured it out.

My issue was with Windows Zero Configuration Service after install of SP3. Just had to restart the service manually from control panel and BOOM, internet works. This particular problem happens mostly on wireless network adapters (mine is a d-link DWA-110 adapter).

Other services you should restart = DHCP! This was the root cause of the problem due to a conflict with Zero Configuration i think. Freakin MS, can't even get their own modules working properly together

If this does not work please do reply i will provide u with some other solution

Hi. I am not sure if I am infected, but I posted in another forum, and someone told me it sounds like I am. They told me to post here. The basics... I bought a brand new Dell Inspiron M5010. I am the first owner, and have the dell 1 year standard mail in service warranty. Right now, I have Mc Afee installed, because it came for a free month with the computer. I was planning on switching to Norton once my trial ended, but since I am having issues with my other computers as well, I am looking for a very good antivirus (even if it costs money) for Windows 7. This computer came with Windows 7 home premium...
and I have the product key sticker on the bottom of my laptop. Since I have gotten the laptop, a little flag with an x on it pops up... It will tell me several messages all at different times... Sometimes it will tell me my windows firewall isn't on, but when I access the control panel, it says it is on. I have tried clicking the turn on now button and nothing happens. The flag will also say that it can't update my computer and no updates have ever been added... Also it will tell me that internet explorer 8 stopped working properly. It will also tell me that internet explorer has stopped working. (I have one internet explorer that says 64 bit next to it, and one in another location that just says internet explorer, I think this one is the 8.) I have moderate computer skills... and really need this taken care of quickly. I am in college, so it is very important that... Read more

I didnt think much of it and restarted it and continued playing, but after about 5 minutes i started to receive very bad lag on my end, and i simply decided to shut down my computer and just worry about it tomorrow. Today i started my computer up and it refuses to connect to the internet. It finds the network and router but will not allow me to connect to the internet. I am currently on a laptop that is connected to the same network(wirelessly) and my desktop is hardwired to my router. I'm not sure what is causing this issue, and would greatly appreciate any help people could offer.

I'm not sure if this issue has anything to do with the Windows Update or not but i cant seem to figure it out on my own.

A:Internet connection issues after Windows Update

First guess without any specific experience with your computer is that your av or firewall software is freaking out.
Usually uninstall/reinstall will solve if that is the case.

It's also possible some core system files were damaged when windows was updating.
That's also easy to check though.
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
^just follow those instructions for that one.
As always with connection issues.
Turn off the computer.
Unplug modem (remove battery if it has one)
Unplug router.
Do something else that takes about five minutes.
Plug in the modem wait until it fully connects and cycles
Plug in the router give it time to also fully set up.
Reboot the computer.

That specific order is the best way to get any junk settings cleared from all the connection related devices.

The subject gives the two problems. Specifically, I am running windows XP on a new dell laptop 1.9 ghz, with only 256 mb ram, and the version of internet explorer that came with it. I have not installed any of the explorer updates as for some reason I cannot update this computer from microsofts website, even though just updated another laptop no problem and know that it is not anything wrong with the site, but something with the computer. It just scans for latest version of widows update eternally when I get there. And then for the more annoying problem, I cannot close any window in internet explorer by clicking on the X box in the upper right hand corner. It just beeps at me!! and does nothing... I have to use control alt delete to close anything on this computer. I have a hunch these 2 problems might be related, though 1 of you all might know more. Your help is appreciated! Thanks.

(I have tried wireless and a direct ethernet cable to the router) (Other PCs still have connection) I have disabled my anti-viruses and done a system restore to a point prior to this update and reset my computer to not automatically install updates but to ask me first. This would not remove this update, so I went to add/remove programs - windows updates and removed the 3 that installed last night. WINDOWS KB976902 won't uninstall, it says that it is needed but it wasn't needed yesterday. I can't get on commercial browsers ie Firefox, Internet Explorer but I can on my own custom web browser. My PC is currently running Windows 2000 (yes, it's ghetto, but it's been stable for me). Not too long ago, someone suggested to me to update it to SP4. Since then, I have not done any further updates.

Yesterday evening, for some reason, I decided to see what kind of stuff I needed to update. I did the whole Windows Update thing from the windows menu. I found that I had 77 updates for Windows 2000. I d/led and installed them all and restarted the computer. Now, my Internet and Firefox don't seem to work properly. What I mean is that I'm getting "The page cannot be displayed" page on IE or "Address Not Found" page on Firefox when I try to load websites, such as Facebook or Yahoo, etc.. Only when I hit refresh button about half a dozen times, will I actually get to the website. This has also affected my booting of MSN, as I would get some error msg with that too.

I've restarted the computer couple times already with no improvement. I've checked my Internet connection already as well. There are no problems with that whatsoever (b/c my brother's computer on the same connection is working properly). Someone suggested to me on the Windows 2000 forum to use the "PageCannotBeDisplayed" program, but I'm hesitant to use some external program, as some reviews say it's not helpful. I would like to stress that prior to the Windows 2000 Update, I had no problems with IE or Firefox. Is there a way to reverse the upd... Read more

EVERY single (unsolicited) Windows 10 Home update procedure knocks out my internet access so I can't access internet after a Windows Update.

Found several solutions here at 10 Forums some time back. The solution that works for me (on laptop or desktop, ethernet or wifi) is this:

Go to Control Panel
> Network & Internet
> Network and Sharing Center
> click the Connections: option (either 'Ethernet' or 'Wifi') depending on whether wired or wifi
> click 'Properties'
> click once on 'Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)' so it is highlighted
> click properties
> ensure 'Obtain an IP address automatically' is selected
and
> scroll to Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) so it is highlighted
> click properties
> ensure 'Obtain an IP address automatically' is selected

Every Windows update removes the 'Obtain an IP address automatically' settings on both my machines.

My question is:

Does anyone know how to get these settings to stay permanently? It's so annoying having every single Windows update knock out my internet access.

Win 10 Home 64 bit connected to ActionTec wireless 802.11N VDSL2 modem router via fibre.

Thanks in advance.

There's been a Windows update that screws up my Internet connection like clockwork ever time the update installs. I roll back to the previous restore point and that fixes it. Hope Microsoft is on top of this.

Friday morning windows installed several updates on my work computer, most of them being Windows Defender stuff. No problems that day. Monday morning I come in and I could no longer connect to the internet, only our Local network.

The first thing I tried was to system restore prior to those updates. It removed all but one (KB915597). Windows says this cannot be uninstalled once it is installed.

I also googled this extensively and one of the fixes I tried was to go into Services, and both the wired connection and WLAN connection were set to manual and disabled so I set those both to automatic and restarted the computer. Still no internet access.

Even booting in safemode I have no access. I've run multiple virus scans, rebooted our modem (we don't have wireless), etc, etc.

Here are some logs I thought might be helpful in solving the issue. If anything else is required, I'll post it asap.

I recently was installing windows updates and decided to try internet explorer 8. After the download it would not let me watch video clips so I deleted it using add/remove programs.

Since then I can not surf the web using internet explorer or firefox, It just says page can not be displayed. I repaired the connection and it says no errors. I can ping a sites ip address but not by typing yahoo dot com. Xbox online works just fine.

When I load IE it seems like its about to load google and then at the bottem it says some dns error. Windows update will work but it also says some error that it cant download service pack 3.

I noticed at start up it says can not load system32/cdlqpwag.dll, but I dont think that is the problem. I called my internet company and they did some basic troubleshooting but they cant figure it out. What do I do???? Thanks for the help!!

Okay, I have two computers. A desktop, connected to the router via cable, and a laptop via wireless. They both run fine (I'm using the desktop right now). Yesterday, I was using my laptop, when it said Windows Updates were ready to install. That's fine, I always install them. When I restart like normal, the wireless internet's signal is "excellent" as normal, but now I have "limited or no connection".

So, I tried restarting the computer, I've tried restarting the modem, I've retried restarting the router, I've tried using the same ethernet cord that works for this desktop, and plugging it into my laptop, I've tried Windows Restore, I've tried disabling and renabling the adapters. I've tried rebooting (many times), but ALAS, no internet for the laptop.

Going further, when I try to repair the connection, it won't renew the IP. It also says the network has not assigned the computer a network address. Yet it says it has an IP. Also, it now doesnt have a gateway address either.

All I (think) I did was install windows updates, and I lost my internet to the laptop. I tried system restore which I believe removed the update, but still no internet.

PLEASEEE HELP!

Thanks,
--Shaun

Everything was working just fine, until I responded to a Windows update stating I needed to install important updates on Saturday, Oct. 5th.

Anyways, here it is

1. First, I do not have an SF file available, because I cannot get SF Diagnostics to run on my computer. I have tried downloading the most recent version, and there is an error message regarding Visual basic. I have attached that below.

4. Everything was stable on my system until October 5th, when I received notice that there were Important updates to install. These had apparently installed previously, had failed the first time(?). I follow that with a question mark, as I am not sure this was true. Anyways, installed again, and was marked as successful. Hit "Check Updates" and Windows update indicated they had to be installed again. Tried again, and entered into the endless loop others have described. Restored the computer to the point before installing the updates. Downloaded the appropriate "Fix-it" for Windows MicrosoftFixit50123.msi. Ran that. Then installed again. Thought things were good. Nope.

3. After this started experiencing BSODs when online. Both in Chrome and in FireFox (64-bit) browsers. I do not use IE, so cannot comment on that.

4. I have run Malwarebytes Anti-malware, and nothing was found (quick results attached). Quick Scan only. Previous Full Scans showed no infected files - Computer scanned once a week (Full scan).

5. I have run Microsoft Safety Scanner ... Read more

An update to Number 1. Where I could not get SF Diagnostics tool to work. Got it to work.
Attached is the SF file that I was able to find. Not sure the mini dump files are as they should be.
