Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB9

Q: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB9

I haven't downloaded this update as I have dial-up and it says 26-48 hours to update this. Also, I had to reformat my computer three times with the SP3, even downloading from disk instead of internet - so scared to download Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86 as don't want to have to reformat (and also don't want my computer running for 2-3 days to download).
Are there problems with this download like there were with SP3 (I ended up never being able to have a working computer with SP3)? Do I need this update? Will there be problems if I download from internet, and if not any other ways to update this (for free)?
Thank you.

Hi I tried twice today to download and install the following updates, Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86. it is a large update taking approx 30mins to download the 248MB package. Both times it got to the end of the download and the next I got was a message saying installation failed. At first I thought it was Comodo BoClean so turned it off the second time but got the same result anyway.
My PC is an AMD Athlon XP2400+, 1GB of RAM running on XP3 and updated via Automatic Updates "notify but do not install". I got a MSN email notification on IE8 RC1 and decided to check my Firewall connection to Microsoft Update, where I was told that the mentioned updates were available and decided to install them though not IE8 at this time.

For real time protection I use Comodo CIS, Comodo BoClean and SpywareBlaster. I switched off BoClean the second time and set CIS to installation mode both times. I cannot see anything else on my PC which could hinder the installation process. In my Add/Remove program list I have Microsoft .NET Framework versions 1.1,1.1 Hotfix, 2.0 Service Pack1, 3.0 Service Pack1, 3.5, Should I uninstall these before installing the latest version or should they all remain on my installed programs?. I would appreciate it if someone could offer some help here as I like to keep my PC up to date.

Hi .Well...let's start with the reason you have MS .NET installed on your system. What applications/drivers do you use which require any version? If you have no such applications...IMO it's not even necessary to install any version of MS .NET on a system. Doing so is a waste of time for those who don't have applications which demand MS .NET.http://forums.techarena.in/customize-xp/866859.htmLouis

Hello everyone!

I guess my luck ran out. So I am back on here to find out if anyone can help me. My problem is I tried to download the update:

At first it downloaded fine, I restarted my computer to install it, it installed fine. Then it restated Showing 2 of 3 stages of updates then My computer automatically restarted showed 3 of 3 stages of updates, Then I got a black screen which showed; I do not know if it was showing how many files indexed or filed, or configured out of a total number or what, then the computer restarted again and then I got the following message: "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer." Then the computer restarted again and went through the normal starting procedures.

I have already gone to Microsoft with this and have tried what they suggested and nothing worked so far. I keep getting the same results as above. They have had me try to manually install the programs individually. But that has not work so far. They have had me clean up and uninstall all .NET files and programs but I have found the following:

Hello,
Recently, I did a full HP system restore and the Computer guy who came to my house installed the Service Pack 3, the latest version. I used to have Service Pack 1.

I have had quite a few problems since then because of the full system restore and having to re-install alot of my programs, etc.

But anyway I noticed today, that down in my system tray (or whatever you call it) on the bottom right of my computer where all the little icons are, there is this Microsoft Updates Automatic Updater with the yellow shield and it said that an update ready to install so I tried installing it.

And this is what it said:

Automatic Updates

Some updates could not be installed
The following updates were not installed:
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5
Family Update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x86

----------------------
I looked, and on "My Computer" it says:

Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 3

Hewlett-Packard
Pavillion

SO- that seems like a conflict since my computer had Service Pack 3 and
the Microsoft Updates is trying to install this Service Pack 1 thing.

What should I do? Do I have to get it all in sync somehow and is this
messing up things on my cmputer?

Also does this mean I am missing out on all the correct updates for
my computer?

For several weeks now, I have tried to install the subject update, and can not get it installed. My update history says it was successfully installed on 1/23 however it does not appear in the Control panel of installed programs. And, each time I have Microsoft check my computer it says that I need the service pack installed. Automatic update has it downloaded on my computer but it will not install. I have deleted it several times thinking it might be corrupted but no luck. When I do click the icon in the sys tray, I get the window that says it is being installed, after initialization, it sits silent with no movement of the progress bar for probably 5-6 minutes, suddenly the progress bar fills with blue and I am told that service pack one was not installed. No reason or error number given. Thanks for any help.

Note that to see the .net framework service pack in the add/remove programs list you'll need to check the "show updates" box at the top.

See if this article from MS helps :

My computer runs Microsoft XP. We have Norton Internet Security 2004 installed on our system as well as XP Service Pack 2.

Upon accessing Microsoft's LiveUpdate site, it told us that we needed to download:

"Microsoft.net framework 1.1 Service Pack 1"

We did. It then told us to restart the computer, so we did.

BUT, when the system started up again, and all our programs loaded, the Norton Antivirus Icon on the bottom bar of the desktop had a big red x going through it.

This means that our Antivirus is disabled. When we go to enable it, we get an error message: "Norton AntiVirus has encountered an internal program error 4002,517".

I've been to Symantec's support site, and have followed their instructions on fixing that error. It doesn't work.

Another interesting point: if we disconnect our DSL modem, our AntiVirus is enabled.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

Help please!!

Thank you

Please can someone help?

A:framework 2 service pack 2

Hello teresa0005000

There should not be 2 versions installed which are the same. Are you sure they are exactly the same?

To recover some space
1. Run Disk Cleanup
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Cleanup
Click OK to clean up the "C" drive first
It will take a little while to "calculate"
Look at what is checked for deletion in the box. Make sure that "Compress old files " is NOT checked. The rest is your choice.
The main thing to check is "Temporary files" as they need to be cleaned out.

2. If you do not use "Hibernation", turn it off. You will recover space equal to the amount of memory installed
Control Panel / Performance and Maintenance / Power Options / Hibernate tab, and uncheck the Enable hibernation box

3. Reduce the space System Restore is using. It is possible to reduce this and still have plenty of restore points. Try setting it at half (6%) and check how many restore points you have. If you need more you can always increase the space again
Right click My Computer/Properties/System Restore.
Highlight the drive and click "Settings"
Pull the slider down

I run Windows XP service pack 3, for some reason the other day, I was online and I noticed that the little yellow update shield appeared at the bottom right side of my screen. I pressed the button to go ahead and do the updates, it had said that I needed to install the .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 I do not have service pack 1, I only have service pack 2 and 3, so I clicked the button to go ahead and install this "Critical Update" as it was described through the home network that I am running off of. It went through the process of downloading the update, but when it got to the part of installing it, it said "Updates were unable to be successfully installed" and ended the process. Microsoft suggests to completely remove all service packs, and start over from scratch, and has a long drawn out method for doing so, (I printed out the procedures, but am a bit leery to do it) I was wondering if this is a good idea for acquiring the service pack that does not exist, or if there are better ways to acquire the service pack? Or, if I even need this service pack installed at all?

A:.NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (Error)

You should try running the .NET framework cleanup tool. I think you can find it at this link: Here
. However, before using it, try to uninstall all of the .NET framework stuff via that Add/Remove option in your control panel. If that doesn't work out, then resort to the cleanup tool.

I tried to install this manually via the Microsoft Update site but it tells me that I don't have Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1. I checked my Add/Remove Programs list and I don't have Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1, yet I still get prompts to install updates for it. I do have other versions of .NET Framework but not 1.1. What should I do?

Morning,

Dell Dimension 2400; internet surfing; microsoft office stuff....

XP home Version 5.1 (build 2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr)

Windows is set up to search and alert for updates. This most recent one (Network Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1; KB953297) continuously fails to install (tried at least six times over two weeks).

When I finally looked it up today, to my surprise, this upgrade was published in August 2004!

So a couple of questions to point me in the right direction:

Why did it take so long for Windows to discover I was missing this update; Why is it failing to install; Should I be concerned the PC doesn't have this update?

Thanks

A:Network Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1

Good morning .Well...I can only guess.Since that version of MS.NET...there have been multiple other versions.I suspect that any program which would have used the older version...now uses one of the newer versions. If you have no newer versions installed on your system, forget my theory .And remember...nothing that a human makes...and, certainly, no human...is perfect. Things go wrong with each of us daily and the same can be said for Windows .With Windows, I employ the "no harm, no foul" rule.FWIW: I would unisntall any version of MS.NET that might appear in Add/Remove Programs...and then download/install from the following: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=enLouis

Before you do any updates, you need to get SP1 installed.
Did you download it from here?
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5842
Support for Windows 7 without a SP ended on April 9, 2013 so Windows Update, I suspect, will tell you there are no updates.

When you are ready to install, disable your security programs and remove the computer from the internet (if wired, pull the ethernet cable; if wireless turn off the wifi on the computer).

For the last week or so I have had a notice that M$ would like to install
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1Click to expand...

I give it the "OK" and it looks like it is installing--- only to report that "The following update was not able to be installed" and it list the same one over again.

I close it and five minutes later the notice is back again---- wants to install it again--- and again with the same results.

Has anyone any suggestions of what to do? My guess is that I would like to get rid of the file they have downloaded and let them try again--- seems like it might be defective download.

I am running XP-SP2 with both .NET Framework 1.1 & 2.0 on the Add/Remove list

Thoughts would be appreciated

Hey there,I've got the same scenario on both my old/current XP Home and new/replacement (most likely going back) XP Pro laptop.Add/Remove Programs lists these two things:Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB928366) When I go to Windows Update, it shows that I successfully installed this:Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB928366)So I'm guessing that's the same as the Hotfix listed above in Add/Remove Programs? But the actual .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 is not listed in Add/Remove Programs. Is it supposed to be?I know some people were having issues with this stuff -- so I wanted to make sure I was okay security-wise here (or if I need to do that unintall and reinstall everything scenario). I don't use this .NET Framework stuff (nor know what it's for). I just want to make sure the computer is secure. Thanks!

A:Question About .net Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (kb928366)

Hey there,

Here's the update for anyone who has a similar question...

I talked to Microsoft, and it appears you don't need to have Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 listed in Add/Remove Programs. If Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB928366) came up for you on Windows Update and you installed it successfully, that means you already had Service Pack 1 on your computer. The listing in Add/Remove Programs for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 actually encompasses Service Pack 1.

Hope that helps anybody with the same question I had...

Take care.

.NET Framework language packs contain translated text, such as error messages, for languages other than English. Installation of a language pack is not required to run .NET Framework applications on a non-English operating system; however, it is recommended. Multiple language packs, each for a different language, can be installed on a single computer.

Note: An English .NET Framework version 1.1 language pack is not available as all text is in English by default. To download a specific language pack, select the target language from the drop-down on the right.

Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP

G'Day eumail, Welcome to TSF!

I suggest you try this workaround for Windows Update issues...

How to Repair the Windows Update Files.

1. Go Start > Run.
2. In the box type REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL > Enter.
3. A message saying, "DllRegisterServer in WUAPI.DLL succeeded" will appear > OK.
4. Now it is necessary to repeat these steps for each of the following files commands:

REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL
REGSVR32 WUAUENG1.DLL
REGSVR32 ATL.DLL
REGSVR32 WUCLTUI.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL
REGSVR32 WUWEB.DLL

Once finished; since the temporary folder of Windows Update may be corrupted, please carry out the following steps to rename the folder:

1. Go Start > Run > in the box type cmd > Enter.

Type the following command in the open panel.

net stop WuAuServ

( Please Note: the computer may need to be rebooted before the net stop command will work.)

2. Go Start > Run > type in the box %windir% > Enter.
3. In the opened folder, rename the folder ( by Right clicking) SoftwareDistribution to Sdold.
4. Go Start > Run > type in cmd > Enter. In the open command pane, please type:

net start WuAuServ

Once that?s done, Go Start > All Programs > Windows Updates and see if it will allow the downloading/installation of Windows Updates.

Post back with the results.

Kind Regards,

Windows Update decided I needed to install "Security Update for Microsoft.NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB929729)." The update was released July 10 and has failed to install numerous times. I was under the inpression Vista already had Version 2.0, so I am baffled why it wants to install a 1.1 update, and my update history lists that "Security Update for Microsoft.NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB929916)" was successfully installed on July 10.

Can I make Vista recognize I don't need the V1.1 service pack so it stops trying to install or, if it is needed, can I make it complete the install?

As I understand it, the .NET versions are separate and standalone. You should have Vs 1.1 plus a Hotfix, Vs 2.0, and as you have Vista you should also have Vs 3.

MS offers free help for critical update problems, so I would be inclined to check there first. If you don't get any joy, come back and I'm sure someone will be able to assist you.

Running Win 8.1 on a Lenovo U530 (factory specs).
I can't update the microsoft.net framework to 4.5.2 or 4.6.1.
I've tried a clean boot, the microsoft.net framework repair tool and windows update repair tool. The update repair tool fixed 3 issues and after doing so showed that there was no framework update for my pc. As soon as i began to manually download it however,
i then got a popup saying there were updates (surprise surprise, it was .net framework finally coming to its senses). And of course it didn't mean squat, the update still fails.
On further attempts of various methods I did notice that the .net framework version 4.5.2 fails to install, while the 4.6.1 will "rollback" its installation, although this doesn't seem to have any effects ill or otherwise.

Hi
I've been having problems for the past month with .dll files claiming to be missing and it's completely messed up my system, I'm unable to use any function of windows media viewer/player, almost no games on steam work anymore either.

I looked around for ages and tried as much as I could and not a single thing worked, then a few weeks ago I stumbled across my windows update history and found out these updates have continuously failed (Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5, 4.5.1 and 4.5.2 on Windows 7, Vista, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2 x64).

I've seen a very similar post made by nimanouri here about 3 months ago but I'm not entirely sure if my issues are the same, I've run the sfc /scannow and received the message "Windows Resource Protection found some corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them"

I've attached the CBS log file

I don't know what this error message means and consequently I'm not sure what to do next. Would you please advise me on how I should proceed?

2) Try deleting whatever .NET 2.0 download you currently have, and use this link to download a fresh copy --- http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...a/dotnetfx.exe
3) If .NET 2.0 installs successfully, you can then reboot, and try another visit to Windows Update to see if the patch now installs OK.

The error you were receiving can sometimes be generated (humorously enough) when the 64-bit version of .NET is accidentally downloaded and it's installer run [the error message is konked a bit, because 32-bit Windows gets a bit dizzy when fed 64bit code].

See if that helps

Just wanted to ask if anyone besides myself have experienced problems after installing the Service Pack 2, and having a dialog box pop up with the wording "An error has occurred in this script page", when I try to choose any subject in my home page of my ISP (WMCONNECT). Microsoft has given me different options in correcting this problem and nothing has worked. I had to revert back to System Restore and remove the Service Pack 2 to avoid this dialog box. Any support would be appreciated since the folks at Microsoft seem not to know the answer. Ed

If your computer is up-to-date with all the other updates from Windows update then SP3 in itself is not very important. It's only really useful for people who want to install Windows XP from scratch on a new machine so that they don't need to install all the updates one at a time.

I haven't heard of programs that didn't run anymore after installing SP3 but there are some preliminary steps you have to take :

I have the task of resolving a .NET Framework issue on a friends HP laptop running Windows XP. It seems that whenever the system starts up, an error message is displayed as follows:

hpqthb08.exe - .NET Framework initialization error. To run this application you first must install one of the following versions of the .NET Framework: v1.1.4322

I have tried to run MS updates and they fail due to this issue and when I try to remove it from the laptop I get a query for a missing file: s867460.msp. I've tried to remove it in order to re-install it thinking that the file hpqthb08.exe is somehow corrupted. However all de-installation attempts fail seeking the location of this s867460.msp file. I cannot locate a download for this file and at the moment have no idea where to turn.

Any ideas?

I know that it has been a long time since service pack 3 was available for download on the automatic updates for windows, and it is just now that I've decided to update my SP2 to SP3.

I've been looking for reviews all around the net and I've found mixed reviews on SP3. And it's got me thinking if I should update or not.

So here are my questions:

Is SP3 safer than SP2?

Is it faster than SP1 or SP2? (Like increased OS speed)

Are there no bugs on SP3? (Like software incompatibilities, etc.)

Anything I should be aware of before I install SP3? I've read in some blogs and other forums that you should uninstall some things on your computer for you to update to SP3 successfully.

I also read that some users got lots of errors when they updated to SP3, is this true?
Is SP3 MUCH BETTER than SP2?
I am happy wih my SP2 and don't want to mess up my windows experience by installing SP3 without knowing what I have done. So replies will be very much appreciated here. My computer is running on Windows XP home edition.

Now, my system won't even allow me to un-install the old ver. 2.0 so I'm at a loss as to what to do. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

A:Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Wi

Try temporarily disabling your antivirus application and if you have a third-party firewall installed, enable the Windows firewall temporarily but disable the third-party one.

This has solved the same problem for many other people according to what I've read elsewhere on other forums. Seems to be a common problem with Net Framework updates.

If this solves the problem and the update installs okay, you can re-enable your antivirus and third-party firewall, but remember to disable the Windows firewall as having two firewalls running together is not advisable.

Tried everything. From adding full user control to trusted installer and creator/owner in Windows/Microsoft. net and Program Data directories to therepair service verifier, making sure virus scanner is off, fixit solutions, sfc /scannow's clean bill of health, uninstalling a few upgrades mentioned with .netframe 4.0 and 3.5 etc etc. I get a fatal error if I try to uncheck .net 3.5 (the only version I can see since all other have been uninstalled) in 'turn windows features on and off), smartmsizap, msiinv, Smart boot(cold boot? with the startup items not checked and initial boot config). I think something is wrong here with either registry or program permissions because the initial 4.5.1/4.5.2 install zips to a random c:/ directory and then it asks me to find netfx_core_x64.msi which I point to in that directory, but says it is not the netfx_core_x64.msi that came with the installation.

As of current, I do not have any working .net framework which is bad because 1) some progrmas, ie video games require it 2) my schoolwork/development environments need it for things like Git

Another weird thing is although I manually installed net framework 1.1, only 3.5 shows up in the 'turn windows features on or off' and I can't 'uncheck' it or add the sub trees underneath it. Almost like it is not there but doesn't want to install additional componenets or be completely uninstalled.

Ok, sunk a couple hours into what the problem is, unfortunately I cannot work out how to fix it short of reinstalling my operating system (If I take it off, I refuse to put it back on, to many headaches already).

Basically I needed to update to .net framework 4, and my system lied and said it was done successfully. I then tried to update to XNA framework 4, and got;

"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2908"

Followed by;

"An error occurred during the installation of
assembly 'microsoft.xna.framework.avatar,fileversion="4.020823.0",version="4.0.0.00000",culture="neutral",pub licKeyToken="842CF8BE1DE50553",processorArchitecture="MSIL". Please refer to help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x8002802F"

Which, when I googled it, told me I wasn't alone at least.

I started looking at the 2908 error and found a few links to the Microsoft answers page, an answer and a line of people basically saying that the answer did not work. Rather than including myself in their number, I kept looking, and found the sfc/scannow command (Which refuses to run,"windows resource protection could not start the repair service"(Why don't these messages ever tell me <WHY>?)), and at Microsoft XNA Framework 4.0 problem | Terraria Online

I just finished a 69mb download for .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update For .NETVersions 2.0 thru 3.5. This update also added an addon in Firefox named Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant 1.0.Does anyone have any comments on whether to allow this addon or not? It can be disabled. There are 2 options in the addon. The first option is to prompt or not to prompt before running Click Once Applications. I chose PROMPT. The second option was to Report All Versions of .net or only the latest version. The default is to report onlythe latest and I left it like that. What the heck are Click Once Applications? Just a note to anyone reading this and haven't installed this month's Windows Updates. This update is notan "unattended" update for everyone. My ZA firewall asked me for permission for two different elements to access the net half way thru the install process. I also noticed even after Windows said to reboot to complete, there was still a lot of processor activity for 2 or 3 minutes.EDIT:I found the info I was looking for in Wikipedia. If you are referring to Net Framework, then yes it is normal, there are several of these along with the service packs.

You may not need all of these as they are specific to certain programs. You would need to Google to find out which programs these support.

There's no tricking a program as it will search for the 4.5 installation files to use. .NET framework is a program that runs to help other programs function within Windows.
