integrated broadcom wifi controller won't enable although it is recognized

Q: integrated broadcom wifi controller won't enable although it is recognized

I'm on a Dell Inspiron 600m notebook computer. I reinstalled windows xp home, and I downloaded a package with all the drivers for this system.

The wireless card is a Broadcom 440x 10\100 integrated controller

I am certain that is the card in the system, and the installation of the driver was successful. However, the wireless network icon in the start bar does not appear.

In the device manager, the broadcom card is listed under "Network Adapters." However, under the "Other Devices" section I found a yellow question mark with an exclamation point next to the words, "Network Controller."

The Device Instance ID for this "Network Controller" is:
PCI\VEN-8086&DEV-4220&SUBSYS_27218086&REV_05\4&39A85202&0&8F0

When I go into the Command Prompt and type "IPCONFIG /ALL," this is the readout:

I checked in the BIOS and it seems to me the device IS enabled. and I did try pressing "Fn+F2" (to enable or disable the card), and nothing happened.

Any help you have at all will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

'under the "Other Devices" section I found a yellow question mark with an exclamation point next to the words, "Network Controller."'

So, there is a problem.

Did you click on that to find out exactly what it says is the problem?

edit: 'I downloaded a package with all the drivers for this system.'

Does this mean 'I downloaded all the drivers, installed the chipset drivers first, then installed all the other drivers.'

Hello all and thanks for taking a look at my thread.

My home computer is not connecting to the internet. Well I should correct that it does some times under certain circumstances. I have a Dell Dimension 2400 and it has a Broadcom 440x Integreated Controller. I have broadband connection and a modem for which this is the only computer connected. I have the firewall disabled and still does not work.

I did a virus scan and did have any viruses. Unfortunately, I do not have anything like SpyBot or Hijackthis on this computer. Stupid I know, but it is my wife's computer and she use it for e-mail and I moslty only use iTunes.

I tested the broadband and the modem by directly connecting my laptop to the modem and everything works fine.

When looking at the Internet Connection on my Dell, it states that I am connected, but I can not access the internet. When I do a Network Diagnostics Test it reports that the Broadcom 440x has failed the ping test. So I checked the Device Manager and the Broadcom 440x is enabled and when tested says it is in working order. When I select to "repair the internet connection" option, after it has finished I can connect to the internet at least to my home page, but after that is does not work again.

So I used my laptop and downloaded the latest driver for the 440x, unistalled the old driver on my Dell and installed the new one. After doing this I was able to connect to my home page and perform 2-3 more clicks before the connection fai... Read more

Hello, I am helping a friend with an issue on their HP Pavilion dv9410us running Vista 32 Home Premium. Basically, their wireless adapter is working inconsistently. Sometimes, when you pull up the Device Manager, the adapter is listed, but sometimes it is not. There is an on/off switch which has an orange indicator when the adapter is off, and a blue light when it is on. When the device is not listed, the light remains orange no matter how you turn the switch. Also, the tray icon for wireless networks will vanish completely when the adapter is not detected. 90% of the time, the computer simply appears to have no LAN adapter installed, but the rest of the time, it works without issue. Sometimes restarting the computer will help it, but generally it seems to come and go as it pleases. It's the factory adapter, I know it's a Broadcom, but not sure of a model number. I've tried reinstalling the drivers to no avail. I installed an external USB adapter and it works fine, but they are a nuisance and certainly not an ideal solution. Does anyone have any suggestions or am I missing anything obvious?

Thank you in advance!

Have you tried removing the device via Device Manager...and then reinstalling it with the appropriate HP drivers?

Hello Jasmine and welcome to the forum.

According to this the Diagnostic Policy Service isn't running.

You can turn that and other networking services back on by typing "services.msc" into the run box. This will take you to the services screen per the picture.

Make sure that all other networking services are started and set to Automatic.

I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 running Win 8.1 Today I booted up and no wireless connections.  Clicking the wireless icon gives the message "No connections are Available:. I have turned the wireless radio off and on, rebooted a few times, and checked in the Device Manger.  It shows that the wireless adpter is working properly. I opened the Network and Sharing Center and clicked the change adapter settings.  It shows that the wireless adapter is disabled.  I clicked the enable button, but it does not change from disabled. Any suggestions GREATLY appreciated. Brian

A:How to enable Broadcom 802.11 ac wireless adpter

I rolled back the driver version and that seems to have solved the problem.  Not sure how this happened.  I didn't make any changes to the laptop.  The only odd thing going one was the wireless router at my home office was setting and resetting.  I had been at a client office earlier and it was working fine.

Seems like I'm having problems with my network device - not sure how to figure out if this device is actually working properly - the device status says it's enabled and working but I can't seem to connect to the internet. I've checked with three different connections/cables (each plugged to a different ethernet connection). Still no luck.

Any thoughts would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!

Hey,
Recently, I was messing around in control panel, and ended up disabling my integrated laptop microphone, specifically by going to Manage Audio Devices -> Recording, clicking on my integrated microphone, and then disabling it. I was hoping to only temporarily disable it and re-enable it some time later... the only thing is, I don't know how.

I use Windows 7, and when I return to Manage Audio Devices -> Recording, I just don't see my integrated microphone there.

A:Re-enable integrated microphone?

right-click on the "little box where stuff is" (for the lack of my vocabulary ) and select "show disabled devices" also it would be a good idea to check the other one (to lazy to go look at the name of it)

Having problems with a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. OS is Win 7 Home Premium.

This laptop suddenly stopped connecting to anything 7 days ago. Since then I've confirmed that the wireless adapter is working (can see access points).

If I plug in a working ethernet cable there's no light at all. Device Manager that's set to show 'hidden devices' shows the Broadcom 57xx Gigabit Controller as 'not connected, Error Code 45.'

Also, when a known working ethernet cable is plugged in no light comes on at the jack.

When the internal wifi adapter, or a USB external wifi adapter, is on I can see various nearby access points and it will make an initial connection to that router BUT will not complete the negotiation and give internet access. I'm guessing it does not get an IP address?

I have updated drivers for the device but the problem remains.

How can I fix this? Is the device accessible without totally disassembling the entire laptop? I have a Dell service manual for the model but I can't find a diagram or instructions for this particular component. Point me to some diagrams that show where it is and how to access it?

Or, is it possible to just leave it alone and get a USB ??? that takes it's place and allows Wi-Fi to fully connect to the internet? If so please advise what type of device I should search for.

Appreciate any help.

A:settings for NVIDIA laptop nForce Networking Controller with Broadcom B/G Wi-Fi

Let's start with some information.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands, one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

Note that there is a space before the -n or the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the - or / in the following commands.

NBTSTAT -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

The functionality is working fine for long time. If we give the URL in the browser, we don't need to logon (ie. the logon page does not appear).
But from the last few months, it stopped working for several users. Issue is intermittent.
Could you please suggest what could be the reason and how to solve it.

Thank you in advance.

recently i was having major computer issues on my desktop, i did a full restore to factory settings and after doing a few windows updates i found that my network adaptor was not finding any signals. it does not show up in the change adaptor settings page or in the device manager page. when i troubleshoot my internet connection it says an ethernet cable is not properly plugged in. I have a desktop computer but it definately has a wireless network card. i used to get windows updates for it and it just stopped working one day. when i look in the BIOS the only option related to booting a network card is B03 D00 Yukon PXE. no matter when i boot it i still dont get wireless signals. when i go into the boot menu and try to boot this device it says " PXE E61: media test failure please check cable" i have opened the tower and the card is securely in its slot. i thought i would workaround by getting a usb wifi card. I installed it and connected to the internet and it alternated between having a connection to the internet and being connected to the network but not the internet. even when it is connected to the internet i cannot reach any web pages. my dropbox desktop files update very slowly (7kb/s). when i am connected with the usb card the network stops working for everyone else in the house. they can no longer reach web pages or continue downloads. please help.

Hi folks,

I had the opportunity of working with a customer on a number of other wireless issues that were quite easy to resolve. However, he asked me to take a peek at the Webcam that's integrated into his computer... It simply doesn't work...

Model is an HP Pavilion dv9700us running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit, SP2.

Of course the first indication he is having trouble is when he attempts to open Skype or any other video chat applications, he gets a message that a webcam is not present, one needs to be installed, etc.

A quick peek at the Scanners and Cameras control panel does not reveal the device. So, I have opted to go to the device manager. The only device indicating trouble is a "USB Composite Device". Opening this device reveals an "Error Code 10. This device cannot start."

A check of the HP website for this model does not reveal individual drivers that can be downloaded as they have apparently been included in the Windows Vista operating system.

At this time, I have attempted to do the following:

1. Check the system setup to ensure that the device hasn't been disabled. Not a trace found for this bad boy.
2. Attempt driver update. No better device drivers can be found.
3. Uninstall the device from the control panel. Restart the computer and wait for Windows to reinstall it. Only problem is that is always shown as a USB Composite Device.

Now keep in mind that the webcam previously had a blue light that would illuminate for ... Read more

I was having exactly the same issue. My dell xps 13 would lose wifi connection from time to time, reconnect, lose it again and so forth for a couple of minutes. Then it would work ok for a while, but show the same problems an hour or two later.

In the support forums, some users suggested the problems may be caused by the new network driver (7.35.295.0). If you have this driver, try to revert to the old one (6.30.223.227). I downloaded it

Sorry this is Windows 10 related , but PLEASE help !

My Wifi signal is OK next to my router but there is very little sinal over 30Ft , I have tried almost everything but with very little IT experience ?

Where do I Go !  Broadcom driver 1.519.0.0 is installed (the latest)  but I have to go back to 6.30.223.227 ????  No Idea

It's all related to Windows 10 They say ?

Things I've done so far:
Reloaded WIN XP Pro several times w/ No Service Pack, w/SP1, w/SP2
Removed battery to reset BIOS
Updated MB BIOS
Gone thru BIOS thoroughly
Several Chipset updates (Intel 845 GL Chipset)

Can see Network Adapter when viewing hidden devices, but its typical WAN miniport stuff (Can't remove)

On board Audio and Video Work fine.

Run out of things to try. May be hardware.

You can't use them both at the same time, if not for hybrid crossfire or such... You understand that? So, do you want to use the integrated or the other one? Go to BIOS and find a setting to enable/disable the integrated graphics.

The computer I'm using is an HP Pavilion a720n. I've never really seen the need to upgrade, so it's using the came-with I believe 56MB Integrated Graphics Card.

The problem is that the Windows 7 Beta (public version) doesn't seem to recognize the integrated graphics card, and when I check DXDiag, instead shows me "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter", which I assume is it telling me that I have no graphics card, but a slot for one.

It was working fine with XP, though. Anybody know how to fix this?

Hello all! I'm currently having problems with sound on my computer. I'm running a Gateway 550GR with a Intel 915G Express Chipset, which has an integrated sound card.

In the "Sound and Audio Devices Properties" window, I click over to the audio tab and see that the Sound Playback and Sound Recording drop down menus grayed out. So I zoomed over to the Device Manager window to check my audio codecs and everything was fully functional. So I check the volume control and i get the error
"
There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware."

How is there no mixer device when its part of the motherboard? I'm confused, angry, and trying to find a way to solve this. I've updated my BIOS files, updated my audio drivers, looked on forums, douse my tower with Holy water... well no not that... but you get the idea. Any suggestions as to how to fix this problem without wiping and reloading?

Reloaded friends HP a305w (Walmart Special/TriGem Imperial GL VE MB) that was hosed. NIC dead when I started. System will not recognize integrated NIC. Does not appear in Device manager at all. Decided to just add a PCI Network Adapter and not worry about it. Disabled on board LAN. Lo and behold, will not recognize any of several NICs I tried in any PCI slot. Also tried modem, not recognized either.
Things I've done so far:
Reloaded WIN XP Pro several times w/ No Service Pack, w/SP1, w/SP2
Removed battery for complete reset
Updated MB BIOS
Gone thru BIOS thoroughly
Several Chipset updates (Intel 845 GL Chipset)

Can see a Network Adapter when viewing hidden devices, but its typical WAN miniport stuff (Can't remove)

Run out of things to try. May be hardware.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Rob

I upgraded my friends HP laptop to Windows 10. The issue now is I can't enable Wifi. The card is recognized correctly in Device manager and no issues is found with it. It looks like it is fine. However in the Network Settings WLAN is set to "Off" and when I try to turn it on it always jumps right back to off. eg. I can't enable it.

HP is now help as they clearly state any laptop bought prior to specific date in 2013 will not get any driver updates from their side for windows 10. (Guys, never buy HP again please...). And updating through device manager only tells me it's the newest driver available.

The Wifi card i Broadcom 4313GN card. I searched for win 10 drivers but did not find anything. They only offer linux drivers on their homepage...

So can anyone either provide a solution to the issue or link to a win 1' driver for this wifi card?

I had a similar issue were I was stuck in Aeroplane mode on a cleanly installed W10. Turned out I had to uninstall it from the HID's in Device manager. It's worth checking that he's not stuck in it too. Search for drivers in Windows 7, from the HP website and you'll most likely resolve the issue.

I have read multiple articles about HP laptops with wireless adapters not being able to detect 5GHz wirless networks and most state that it's because they're a "1x1" or single-antenna adapter. They say that if the adapter has the "802.11 a/b/g/n" distinction, then it should be able to see the 5GHz network?  The specs on my device show that the adapter is as follows, so I'm not sure if there may be an updated driver:Broadcom 4313AGN 802.11a/b/g/draft-n WiFi adapter I've searched the HP Support site and cannot find any driver/firmware updates for this notebook...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi That is very interesting. I did not know that the 4313 ever had a wireless A designation. The labeling in the device manager must be incorrect, because the specs for the card directly from the manufacturer indicate it is a single band 2.4 GHz card only. https://www.broadcom.com/products/wireless-connectivity/wireless-lan/bcm4313 If it were dual band, the card would see the 5.0 GHz band, and connect if you have the band set to mixed mode (A/N). My old Intel A/B/G cards can all 'see' the 5.0 GHz band, but can't connect to it because I have that frequency set to N only.

So I have an interresting situation.

A week ago we ordered a bunch of Asus T100TA transformer book tablets for a customer. One of them wouldn't recognize bluetooth or wifi and it had a problem with the Broadcom Serial Bus Driver over UART Bus Enumerator.
After numerous driver downloads and installs and even a full factory restore (whatever option
in windows 8 where it deletes everything and reinstalls the OS), the issue still persisted. Since the tablet was brand new, we just
submitted a DOA request from our wholesaler and sent the tablet back. No big deal, figured it was a hardware issue.

The other day, a Lenovo tablet came in with the EXACT same problem. Again...driver installs, factory restore etc....and the issue is
still there. SO obviously it's not a hardware issue and despite the numerous posts on the internet, I can't seem to find a solution.

Again, both units have had drivers, bios and factory restores and the issue is still there, immediately after factory restore.

If they are coming from the same wholesaler. I would say it is time to find a different company to purchase the units from.

Have a simular problem with TM 5730 and 7730. Broadcon Netxtreme network connection, Intel 5100 Wifi and Jmicron memorycard fail, all connected to the PCI bus. Looks like an old problem with the intel chipset driver reappearing. (In windows 7 this updated driver had to be installed to connect the memorycard reader to the system). Tried the windows 7 driver, but it refuses to install. In my opinion, it is Acers obligation to its customers to have intel provide an updated driver which solves the problem with the intel 4 series express chipset, which is installed in many Travelmate, Aspire and Extensa machines. Please note that broadcom has an updated driver for the Netxtreme connection, but due to the intel flaw with the intel 4 series express chipset, the driver does not work.Acers position "Intel does not support this driver anymore and we will not come with a solution" is in myn opinion unacceptable. In practice it comes to this: You payed your mony, now you have a problem, you are on your own.I am also looking at drivers published by other manufacturers to see if they have a fix for this problem. They might have a usergroups with more leverage. Will keep you guys informed.

I'm having a really annoying problem which is making my laptop almost unusable and a hassle to use. After a while of my laptop being on, my wireless network adapter will suddenly get "limited connectivity", and won't connect to the internet.

Disabling and enabling the adapter will cause my computer to freeze, requiring a restart. The same with troubleshooting. The only thing which fixes this is a fresh reboot, however it always occurs again within the hour.

Sometimes the entire adapter will randomly just disable itself, and the computer will completely freeze, meaning I have to press the power on/off. Sometimes the adapter will just disappear from Device Manager. Searching for "plug and play" devices will cause it to freeze.

Apart from having to reboot, what also seems to work is disabling the wifi from PC Settings, putting the computer to sleep, then awaking it and turning wifi back on. I've had to do that 6 times whilst typing this post.

I've tried flushing my dns, registering it, renewing and releasing. Assigning a static DNS address. All those things. Though I may have done them wrong.

Try reseating the wireless adapter

If the adapter is easily accessible, usually through a cover on the bottom of the laptop.
Remove and reinsert it carefully and firmly to make sure it is not loose.
Then remove and carefully and firmly replace it several times to cure any possible looseness or corrosion.
At the same time check to make sure the antenna leads are securely attached.
Note: This is not taking the machine apart. We do not recommend removing the keyboard when that is necessary to find the wireless.

I recently pulled my wireless adapter card out of my notebook before stopping the service. Ever since then I have lost my sound on the laptop. I have 2 devices that I can't seem to find drivers for on this old laptop. It is a Dell Laptop (Inspiron 7000) C336LT. The sound card is integrated on the motherboard. I went to dell and reinstalled the bios and the only other drivers they have listed is a network adapter driver. When I look at the system informations to try and find who makes the motherboard it says not available. Imagine that . My question is this. Is there anywhere that I can find drivers for this integrated sound card or do I need to find the drivers for the motherboard? I believe the sound card is a ESS Maestro2. I have searched everywhere I know and then some to find drivers. the only drivers I have found so far have been for a PCI ESS Maestro2 card. My other question would be, is there a way to find out who made this motherboard for Dell? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Below is a picture of my Device Manager.

Recent versions of the DW1560 driver have made my system completely unstable due to recurring BSODs which note one of three errors: bcmwl63a.sys, fault in page file, memory management.
I've run checkdisk and Dell's PC doctor app and neither shows an error, I've also done a clean reinstall of Windows 10. Only going back to the 2014 W8.1 driver has worked. Unfortunately, both Dell update and Windows update will continue to attempt to install the new unstable drivers.
This appears to be a widespread issue (see google results for "dell bcmwl63a.sys windows 10". Posting here in the hope of getting an update on this issue, or any info on a better workaround.

The computer, however, failed to connect to the wireless network. I noticed that the network icon was not in the taskbar. I then unistalled the controller and attempted to reinstall via the 'add hardware' program. I then received the message:

A:Integrated Wireless Controller/PC Card Adapter/Ethernet port stopped working

Sounds like your motherboard is rapidly dying.

If the ethernet controller (or adapter) does not show under Network Adapters and is not in Other or Unknown devices with a warning or error message check in the BIOS (Setup) to see if it somehow got disabled. If it is already enabled, or doesn't show there, see my first paragraph.

When the ethernet controller is defective it can prevent other integrated and/or PCMCIA networking cards from working. When this happens sometimes a USB adapter will work.

I have obtained a few old panasonic cf-27 toughbooks. None of them included the hard drive caddy with the proprietary ide connector needed to install a hard drive. Instead of buying the caddies, I thought I would try to boot into a linux distro from a USB flash drive. I had to use a special grub floppy because there is no cd drive, only a floppy. After all that, I discovered that the USB host controller is not turned on when it first boots up. I tried to find BIOS updates that would activate usb booting, but no luck. I thought I would ask if anyone has any ideas as to how I can get these laptops to boot from a flash drive. I figured if I could get the base address for the usb controller, I could edit the BIOS binary file that I have now to see if I could enable it, but I don't know how to get the base address. Any ideas?

I get the claim that it cannot find or create a partition on the instalation disk and that this must be because my disk controller is not enabled. I have tried several things the internet has had to offer so far with no luck.

Any help much appreciated, thanks.

A:Enable Disk controller error

k, i am gonna try a new instalation disk as nothing that i try works.

Edit: It wasnt the install. Probably worth mentioning that i am getting the same response for two separate drives. My Kingston SSD and my Western Digital HDD.

I have a problem similar to some I've seen posted here but with some differences that I haven't seen. My Secondary IDE controller shows a yellow exclamation point and it tells me it's running in compatability mode. I've done the "no ide" proceedure and I've tried reinstalling the Master without a favourable result. However I've found a work-around. By disabling the controller, rebooting and then enabling it, it works. This can't be normal, how can I make it boot with the secondary ide working without going through this long drawn-out proceedure

I currently am using Cox Highspeed Internet on a Dell Latitude D820 with Windows XP. I am hooked up directly to a Scientific Atlanta cable modem. The connection has been stable with no problems since I got the account set up four months ago. I just purchased a Linksys wireless router to establish a wireles connection for 2 laptops. I haven't been able to configure the router because my onboard Ethernet port is disabled. When I try to enable it in Network Connections it gives me a "Connection failed!" error message. In Device Manager, it shows up with a red X next to it, but when I right click it doesn't give me the option to enable it, just disable it. I downloaded the Broadcom driver, but when I try to actually update the driver in Device Manager it gives me an error message that the Broadcom controller is disabled. Do I need to uninstall the Ethernet port completely and then install the drivers? Here is what I get when I type "ipconfig/all" in my Command Prompt. Thanks for any feedback!

However I can't find a driver for it anywhere. Ideas? Should I even worry about it?

My fiance and I are in the same room as the wireless router. My computer is hooked up to the ethernet itself, no problem there. Our roommate is in another part of the house (far away from the router), and he says he's getting insanely fast internet. My fiance's laptop (which is the Compaq F700 duo-core laptop running Vista) was working great for a week or so at this house. Then suddenly one day she comes home from work, and her internet is running like it's hooked up to 28.8k. If she hooks up to the ethernet, the connection on her computer is amazing.
So...
- Roommate's integrated Wifi is working GREAT from far away from the wireless router
- Problem computer is ten feet from the router itself and getting terrible speed
- Definitely connected to our network (with a unique name)

So as far as I can tell, the problem is not our provider, not our router, and not range. It seems to lie solely with the way the wireless software (or possibly hardware) is set up.

No one changed any settings before this happened, but the computer is set up to update automatically.

If anyone has any input that could help, we would be incredibly grateful. We're at the end of our ropes on this one.

Hey guys, So I've just purchased an xbox one controller and an xbox wire so I could connect it to my gaming pc. However, when I plugged it in, it recognised the controller on device management, which showed up on the 'other' tab which showed two files named ''Unknown device'' with a yellow exclamation mark. Therefore, I looked on google and people have said to uninstall it and install drivers. So i installed these ones 'xb1usb.11059.0.140526x64.msi' as recommended by other people. After installation, I noticed that nothing happened and after that I looked back at device management and seemed like it did not recognize the controller anymore because nothing showed up. Therefore I tried uninstalling the driver but still nothing happens/shows up. Anyone can help me?

Hi there

I've been having an issue with the xbox 360 wired controller since I built my new pc. When I plug it in via usb the device is not recognized by windows and no matter what I try it simply will not work.

Things I have tried:
downloaded chipset drivers
downloaded Software Downloads: Xbox 360 Controller for Windows
tried the whole leaving the computer and all usb devices unplugged and off for a good few hours.
ininstalled all the usb controllers and rebooted
tried it in all usb ports, 3.0 and 2.0
searching for hours on google
tried enabling/disabling usb legacy support in the bios
tried running microsoft fixit thing (whatever that is)
tried updating the drivers manually through the device manager but windows insists that the device is up to date.
tried uninstalling and removing ethernet cable to try and force me to choose drivers.
windows is fully updated
I even bought a new controller thinking the last one was broken.

The controller powers up when you plug it in, you can clearly see the green lights around the guide button flash but then nothing happens.

I am really am at my wits end here, help would be so very appreciated.

I had an "unknown device" show up in devices and printers a couple days ago. It was also listed in device manager and said it was a USB controller. Everything worked and I've not added any new hardware. I have 2 partitions both with Windows 7 and the error showed in both. I've found that others were having the same issue, some needed drivers, some said cables needed replaced. Before I got serious with the troubleshooting, I read up a little and found a forum that said you should shut down then disconnect the power cord, wait a couple minutes then power up. Sometimes the motherboard needs to reboot and the devices will be reloaded or reassigned as they should be. It worked for me, it was an easy fix to an annoying problem. Since so many people have posted about this I thought I'd share this. If it helps, great. If not, it didn't cost much time or any money.

A:Unknown device-USB controller not recognized

I can confirm this solution. I had the same problem and I turned off the computer, unplugged the power cable then plugged everything back in and restarted and the error message was gone. Finally!!! No more "Unknown USB Device" messages.

Hey friends, I've been trying to get an original Microsoft Xbox 360 controller to work on my main desktop PC. I'm running Windows 10 anniversary update, and when I first plugged the controller in, it recognized it, but didn't react at all when I tried to do anything with the controller.

So I uninstalled the driver and restarted Windows, hoping it would plug-and-play, reinstalling the drivers. Now, Windows doesn't recognize the controller at all. Whenever I plug it in, it says an unrecognized device was attached. In the Device Manager, it says:

"Device Descriptor Request Failed"

The controller works flawlessly on the same PC under Ubuntu, as well as on my laptop PC under Windows 10 (Anniv Update) and Ubuntu. It is definitely not broken.

Any way to manually download these drivers and install them?

Alright so I have a bit of a unique problem. I had originally had a working 360 controller (wireless) connected to my computer via the Charge & Play cable - too cheap to buy a wireless adapter.
I'm using Windows 8, all critical updates are installed - I don't know if that puts me at 8.1 or what.

Anyway, I had installed the Windows 7 drivers, and some Xbox 360 Accessories app, updated DirectX, etc. and it worked. I was able to use it with ePSXe to play Final Fantasy Tactics with no issues.

Fast forward a few months, and I go to plug in the controller (I haven't in about the same amount of time) and all of a sudden it's not working. I've tried motioninjoy, I downloaded x360ce but I have no idea what to do with the files - I've checked DirectX, the drivers are still up to date from Windows 7, I've searched the internet extensively and I can't figure out what the problem is. Even the aforementioned accessories app doesn't recognize the thing.

Device Manager still shows the controller as an Xbox360 Peripheral, but nothing will read any input from it - or even recognize that it's plugged in. It's plugged into a rear USB port. I've tried the front ports, but I haven't tried the other three ports in the rear with peripherals plugged into them yet. I don't know if it matters - when I bring up device properties from the manager, I don't believe the hub or port changes; don't quote me on that though.

Hi Ruben_Palacios ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

First to make sure that Airplane mode (page 6) is not enabled, there is a hotkey on top of the keyboard with an icon of a plane.  Check if that would enable your wifi .

Else you can try to set the default of the BIOS ,
Access the BIOS by turning off the laptop and then use the Novo button (item2 page 9) on the left side next to power to turn it on. Novo menu would appear to offer BIOS set up , F9 to load defaults F10 to save and exit .

Load up windows and check if there is a wifi icon at the base of the screen.
Check also on device manager if there is any yellow mark or black down arrow  to indicate any need to reinstall drivers from the support website.

Update us how it goes.

Provided you have a WiFi adapter installed in your notebook, you will need to turn on WiFi in your notebook then sign on to an available wireless network.  I suggest downloading your user manual and reading up on this subject for more information. If you do not see any wireless networks, you may need to purchase a Wireless Router from your internet service provider.  If you do not have a WiFi card in your computer you will need to contact Lenovo directly to purchase a compatible card for your specific notebook.

Also - make sure you have a good anti virus software suite installed before you go online.

Good luck.

I got a very funny issue with my xbox 360 controller here...
I bought it 3 years ago while im still in college, often used it on my laptop (win xp) and it runs well, no problem.

Last year i bought a new PC with Windows Vista, and still no problem, i played many games with that.
The problem exist since i format my PC to Windows 7 ultimate 32

Here's the funny stuff, after few experiment, i found out that "The longer I dont use the controller, the longer i can use it afterward"
I guess u will confuse about what im talking... but its true

For example.... I turn on my PC, and i did not plug in the controller for hours, maybe surfing webs or do some stuffs, then when i decided to plug it on to play some games, it actually works but it has a limited time. After some time, it stop working and the green light disappear.
Like I turn on the pc without plugging in the controller for 30min, then when i plugged in i can use about 30min (i didnt record it, just for u to understand easily)

When i try to unplug it and plug it on again, the green light on the controller flash once, and my pc said USB Device not recognized, what the heck is this?

I've even tried to restart the PC, windows 7 loaded, i plug in the controller, about few minutes it not working again

I've been searching for solutions for few hours, updating the driver from the microsoft website, XBCD and few emulator, tried it but nothing helps

Could anyone tell me what is happening?

Okay, I have read a bunch about this topic and it's relation to AHCI, but now I would appreciate some help. I have a Sager NP9280 (Clevo D900F) which has an X58 board with the Intel ICH10R controller, and 3 drives in RAID0. I just got an eSATA but no matter what the drive is not recognized. At one point it showed up briefly in the Intel Matrix software but then the program keeps refreshing and looping searching for new devices. At one point I gave up and just unplugged the drive didn't think much of it because it wasn't being recognized even in the RAID controller settings, but it somehow it broke my windows boot record but windows recovery was able to fix it.

I just want the eSATA drive to work.

QUESTION 1) Do I have to enable ACHI? My BIOS only has RAID and AHCI options and when switching to AHCI, Windows does not boot.

QUESTION 2) Can I still use RAID in AHCI mode? I also read I have to reinstall Windows after switching to AHCI, but

QUESTION 3) can I install Windows with an Image backup? I think the answer is yes but I just want to be sure.

EDIT:

First off, thank you for the help so far. when I was a 10 year old child I came here and got help with how to upgrade my graphics card. I guess things have changed. or I have just become more impatient. </rant>

I recently bought a SATA host controller card but it is not working in my computer. I don't think it has anything to do with the drivers in windows because when I go into the bios setup it sees everything except the SATA controller and the hard drive I plugged into it. I have tried it in four different PCI slots, checking connections each time and none of them are working. My computer is fairly old, so I thought perhaps the card was incompatible with the slots, but it?s PCI rev 2.2 and so is the USB port card that I bought at the same time and it's working perfectly. I?ve run out of ideas and I?m not sure what to do next to try fixing the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

However with this netbook, I have to do it manually everytime I reboot - it's a real pain.

Not sure if this OS, hardware or both.

I've looked at services.msc WiFi service and it's set to automatic already ....

thanks

PS Also, is there a way to get 7 to boot straight to desktop, without having to click on user icon or enter password ?

I have Win 7 Home Premium.

Is there an easy way to disable my wireless connection so that (a) it does not enable itself after a reboot, and (b) I don't need to implement the complete process to re-enable the wireless?

Under normal circumstances, the re-enable after a reboot is fine. I can disconnect WiFi from the system tray, and it reconnects after reboot.

But sometimes, I might want wireless to remain disabled after reboot. For example, if I'm doing a database restore, and the database starts synching after a reboot (such as Evernote), it could cause problems :-)

At the moment, I simply switch off the router until the database restore is complete.
