.bat file to resize images?

Q: .bat file to resize images?

Hi all,

I have a good one for you! At work I need to streamline a system for our production by creating a .bat file (are there any other programs you can create for free?) so that I can take a collection of .jpg images in a Folder, automatically resize them, and then move them to another folder).

I know the script for moving files but not for resizing images.

There may not be a .bat program but I am sure I saw somewhere a program that could launch an application and then run the keystrokes you set (a bit like a Macro).

Any ideas how I could acheive what I need?

I have hundreds of photos from my recent vacation which I would like to downsize and send to my friends.

Assuming that it's possible to do batch resizing, I'm wondering what would be a good and easy program to use. I have both IrfanView and Photoshop Elements 5. Also, I've heard of a free program called Easy Thumbnails.

I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who might be able to help me. Thank you.

I have about 23GB of auto-synced images in my Google+ albums. Images under 2048x2048 don't count against your 15GB limit for a free account; unfortunately, most of these are well over that. Auto sync has an option to resize them, but apparently that setting got missed on my phone or something so it was uploading them at full size.

So I've searched the help pages, but been unable to find out if there's any way to resize existing pics to under the 2048px restriction, short of downloading them all, resizing them on the computer, and re-uploading. IS there a way to do it in-place, and if so, how?

i have a ".tiff" file that is huge 310 mb, I scanned it on too high a resolution. I no longer have the source document.

How can I reduce the file to make it more manageable, this size is a killer on system resources. The file contains many pictures, is there a way to break them out into individual pictures (without doing it 1 at a time)...maybe into a Powerpoint presentation?
I downloaded Ifranview but I don't know how to get the file size reduced, I tried the resize on the Image menu, and chose 640x480 and it only reduced by 10 mb.

Just looking for a simple way if anyone has any suggestions.

I have a 1.2GHz Duron computer with a ti4800SE 128MB DDR memory, etc. etc. and recently I tried to increase hte size of hte paging file thinking it may be behind why two of my games may not be playing at all. I defragged thinking it may be a problem with how much memory was contiguous or free, etc. but that had no effect. The thing is: I can decrease or remove the paging file, but If I attempt to increase hte size of any of htem (I have 4 partitions and only two have PF's), I can hit set, but as soon as I click "ok" my computer restarts cold, and I can find no reason it did that. if anyone has had similar experiences, pleas ereply or even if you just have a hunch. It's starting to get to me, considering that I now have about 300 MB of virtual memory and am 'recommended' to have 640 minimum. I previously had 1024MB but wanted to allocate more to one specific drive. Guess thsi was a bad idea.

I resized the file by %, pixels, and measurements (inches). I also changed the paper size to 8 x 10. Can somebody tell me what I am doing wrong.

Open a Word document of the desired size and import it there. You can also draw a box on the Word document and put it into there - it will fit. If you don't have Word, try Paint.

Somehow I've lost the ability to right click on an image file and resize it. I used to be able to right click on a file, go to "send to", "mail recipient" and have a wizard pop up that would allow me to resize images for the email.. but no longer. I don't think I've installed anything lately that would compromise this feature, but who knows... I've tried downloading and installing the image resizer power toy from MS, but it doesn't seem to register and I don't get any options that allow me to resize images if I right click on them...

In any case, any help someone may have would be very helpful...

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone can help me please?
Is it possible to resize a file to 8x10 (300 ppi) without losing some of my image? I have tried setting the ratios to 8x10 but when I use the rectangular marquee tool or the crop tool and drag out the box the shape is cutting off a lot. The image was taken at close range so I don't have any room to move. I am using Elements 9 to edit.
Many thanks for any help.

A:Can I resize a file to 8x10 with out losing some of my image?

not unless it was taken with the same aspect ratio - otherwise you will change how the subject looks

in elements you should be able to set 10" x8" height and width and aresolution 300dpi in the crop tool and then use that - and the correct size will be shown

I'm on Win 7 Ultimate x64.

I just upgraded to a 4K monitor, and I've read on some issues related high DPI displays, and this might be one of them. I've set the default magnification to 150% in my Windows 7 display settings. And for the most part things look ok. But I noticed some strange behavior within file explorer.

Here's an image for reference
You can see all that unnecessary extra space in the "Size" and "Date Modified" column. So naturally I try to drag the column width to make it smaller. But it wouldn't cooperate! If I try to make the Size column smaller, Explore jerks around and suddenly makes either the "Name" or "Date Modified" column bigger. Same if I try make one of the other columns smaller.

I've tried the Right click options on the columns: "Size Column to fit" and "Size all columns to fit". No good. It would still give me a bunch of unnecessary space in all columns.

This issue didn't happen on my old 1080p monitor. I can resize columns as I wished and they would behave.

Anyone have any idea what's happening and how to solve this?

A:File Explorer: Bad hehavior when trying to resize columns (4K monitor)

Have you tried specifying an exact size for columns?
Right click on the column header
Choose "More..." from the context menu
Click on the header you wish to set
Type the desired value in the box at the bottom

If that works, set your Folder Template so Windows will remember the settings.

I'm new to Word (CorelDraw user) and I need to create a large service manual with a mixture of text and graphics but 'Inserting Images from File' give me the following problems ~

a, it's very difficult to place the graphic exactly where I want it within the text, it jumps to either the text line above or below

b, the text doesn't always flow over the image once inserted, I have to create space behind it by adding carraige returns

c, I cannot 'see' the actual graphic except in print preview

d, even though the graphic is in black and white it prints out in colour

e, I cannot resize the image once it is imported

f, the graphics often just disappear from the document for no apparent reason!

I think I can create the document by working around these problems but it's less than ideal. Also, is there a *simple* means of going to a specific page and back again quickly?

The images are .jpg's and .gif's, nothing special. OS is Win 95.

~ carol

A:Word 97: Images from File

Good news for you, Carol! I do Word and am somewhat experienced in Coreldraw. Let's hope I can help you.

First, I take it this manual is for printing, not online, and that you've already exported as JPGs and GIFs? If you've only done a few and the manual is to be printed, I urge you to export as WMF. That format always prints nicer in Office. However, photos should be JPGs or GIFs or TIFs.

Question d: The graphics may be B&W, but your printer might not be. Virtually every color printer has the option to print B&W. Hit File-Print, hit Properties button for the printer. Go through the tabs and look for the B&W option (or maybe grayscale).

Now for the "real" problem, this should solve a, b, e, and f: You're not doing anything wrong with the pictures; it's Word's default that is bad.

Word 97: When you hit Insert-Picture-From file (and that is how you should be inserting them), you should then get a dialog box that allows you to select the graphic. On the right, you'll see a box that says "Float over text" and you want to DESELECT the box. After you do the first one, it should remain unselected by default, but check to make sure.

Word 2K: After you insert the file, you must right-click and hit Format-Picture, hit the text wrap tab, then hit the advanced button, and select "in-line with text." I also have a macro at work that will go through a Word document and select each graphic and remove that prop... Read more

Why does windows photo viewer insist on stealing file associations for image files? No matter how hard i try and set Office Picture manager from office with .png and .tiff. Windows decides that it wants to make photo viewer the default image application.

Office picture manager also does not list in the "default programs" list making it impossible to set without drilling down to each file type and manually changing the program to office manager.

This is the same on windows 8/10 as well, unfortunately now the new problem is the new style (cr)app called "photos" which steals file types and makes it next to impossible to set file types to other applications.

It wouldn't be so bad if the included photo viewer and photos were not such ugly and patheticly useless applications and (cr)apps.

Is there a way to set this with group policy or registery. All i want to do is set the image file types, jpg, png and tiff to office picture manage, seems like a simple task.

I have a new HP Pavilion desktop with a Xoom Tablet that has recently worked very well in the following way. It was after I did a windows 8 REFRESH that something is now off.

I'd yank a hank of my hair but I have be respect what I have left. I had this new PC with Win8 Home working fine with the Xoom Tablet, (ICS factory) I had the new PC set up for a local account when File Manager HD was working fine. Then I decided that I wanted the new PC to be a MS account. So I switched. Long story short I had to do a REFRESH as I had deleted a lot of my tiles like MAIL and CALENDAR. Ok, I have all that back. I went to transfer some files using File Manager HD to the new PC, this has been done before easy as can be. Now I have the tablet program finally seeing all the folders and files on the new PC but when I select them and transfer them I get a Warning window that the files were not copied or pasted or moved or whatever. Nothing I seem to do will help.

Futher, the File Manager HD program is working fine with the old XP machine, it just won't copy to the new PC. Save my hair ... give me an answer! lol Thanks! jack

A:File Manager HD see's images on PC, will not transfer them

Things can get messed up very quickly when you change user accounts, it's best to always use a Windows live account with Windows 8, and then do not change Users, there are many good reasons for this.

Have you tried creating a new Admin account on the Windows 8 machine using your Windows live account to sign in with?

You may need to move all of your files over to the new account before you would have permissions to access all the files.

After that you would remove the old account and use the new one.

This tutorial explains the process but there are absolutely no guarantee's on anything here, you will most likely lose permissions to files that were created under the old user name unless you take ownership of them using the new Windows live User name.

Using an App called Lyricist for making music score sheets showing guitar chord diagrams and song lyrics. This problem occurred with Vista and Windows 7, involving the insertion of bitmap images when creating new songs. Instead of displaying the chord's BMP image, a file icon is created at the insertion point. However, previously created songs display properly.

Here is the Lyricist technical support solution that worked with previous versions of MS Windows.

Error message during Chord insertion:

Some users have received an error message when
attempting to insert Chords. Others have been able to insert Chords, but
they appear as "thumbnails" (a reduced version of the bitmap with the
name of the .bmp file displayed beneath it). We have found that both of
these issues are related to a Microsoft browser bug and can be reproduced in MS
Wordpad. The good news is that they are commonly resolved with a minor registry
tweak. We have created a file that will perform this tweak easily and

This suggestion and their tweak file do not correct the problem in Windows 8. The App company is not planning to offer a Windows 8 upgrade any time soon.

Anyone else having problems with BMP files? Any suggestions on how to solve this issue?

Although I?m impressed with the simplicity and functionality of Windows 7 Backup & Restore feature, I just really want to do a plain vanilla backup of selected locations or an entire HD. Specifically, I don?t want a VHD or archived or compressed file containing the backup. Rather, I want to be able to go to the backup HD and see the files that were backed up.

Of course, I can just manually copy files over to the backup HD but the main drawback to this is just that ? it?s manual.

I?ve also considered Raid 1 redundancy but as many have warned, Raid 1?s purpose is really for system uptime rather than backup. As much as I like the automatic backup nature Raid 1 has to offer, real-time mirroring is something I am not comfortable with.

This would also address Win7 Pro?s mirroring feature. But in addition, I am also uncomfortable with the need to turn drives into dynamic drives. I?ve gone down this road before and it turned out nasty when I un-dynamiced the drives and lost all my data.

Lastly, I was wondering if there was some way I can create a scheduled task that copies certain folders of the entire source HD to a backup HD based on times which I specify? I would prefer a Windows 7 native solution over third-party applications.

Thanks for any advice or thoughts.

Awhile back, I thought I read something online that said it was possible to add an image to the folder icon in your file library I have tried to find a tutorial or info on this, but not had much luck.

Basically, I want to know if it is possible to still show the folder icon, but add an image to it. I have several hundred folders that each contain documents and images for research on textiles; being able to superimpose an image of the textile type for the folder would make it much easier to locate the ones i want than by looking at hundreds of blank folders with textile names, as the name doesn't always conjure up what the fabric looks like in my head.

Is this even possible? I don't want to replace the folder icon with an image; I want to put an image on the folder icon.
Something like this:

I am using a Toshiba laptop, running Windows 7 home premium. The only catch to this I'm not sure about,

is that my filders appear sideways, instead of flat (like this):

which would would render it pointless to place an image on. But again, am almost positive I read that you could.

If this is possible, any input/advice/how- to would be hugely appreciated

For the record, I'm not very tech-terminology savvy, so if at all possible, please break it down to me in layman's terms.

Thanks so much,

Okay, this has happened for a while and it's always made me nervous.  Before I do my latest backup, I just want to double check what's going on.
I have an external hard drive where I keep all my photos, business, etc...  Then I have another external drive that I sync it too occasionally just to back everything up.
However, with the images, sometimes something off happens.  Although I have not touched the images at all, two identical images have different file sizes.  Keep in mind, I have not touched either image and manipulated it at all.
The main externail jpeg file size is 1,498,512 bytes
The backup jpeg file size is 2,893,394 bytes
Before I just allow my HD to overwrite my backup copy, I just wanted to know the reason for the difference.  Could it be that as I am using the external hard drive, it compresses?  Do both the files contain the same information and I shouldn't worry about it?

A:Two identical images backed up, two different file sizes

It is a function of the "block size" (also called "cluster" or "sector") used to format the drives. The following page gives some insight: gist of it is that when you format the drive, you are basically turning that drive into a bunch of fixed sized "boxes" (aka blocks, clusters, or sectors). If you have a file that is just a hair bigger than the size of one of those "boxes", then you actually need two "boxes" to store the file. If you then copy the file to another drive, that drive might formatted such that it uses different size "boxes". So, on this drive, the file will take up a different number of "boxes" since they are of different size. What the OS then is reporting to you is the number of "boxes" the file takes up times the size of the "boxes", whether all the "boxes" are full or not. So, if the "boxes" for drive 1 are 4 kb in size and the file takes up 2 "boxes", then the file size would reported as 8 kb even if the file actually only takes up 5 kb. If on a second drive the "boxes" are 2 kb in size, then the file would take up 3 "boxes" and the OS would report the file size as 6 kb.The size of the "boxes" can be a function of your formatting options as well as the overall disk size.Edit:It could also be a function of compression...depending on how you are backing up. If you are just copying the files in the Window Explorer, then there is likely no compression going on. If you are using some sort of bac... Read more

Recently, I've noticed that when I try saving to my computer images that I find online, I get weird file extensions and appended random characters to the filenames. It used to be that I just got the following 3 options: GIF, PNG, JPG and it was a straightforward save.

Now I'm getting things like these too (notice the SAVE AS TYPE line, and in some cases all the appended characters to the file extensions which I have to remove):

In order to save most of these, I have to remove all the crap that is appended after the correct file extension in order to successfully save in PNG or JPG format.

Can anyone explain why this is happening please? I'm wasting alot of time to have to adjust the filename/extension whenever I'm downloading an image to my computer... hopefully someone has a solution for me?

Windows Explorer blocks all images in HTML pages when I view them in the preview pane, claiming it's for security reasons. Those files are stored locally on my hard drive. I'm viewing them while offline, and in fact, I created them myself, so there's no security risk whatsoever. I suspect that this has something to do with a component of Internet Explorer, even though I use a Mozilla-based browser now and disabled IE a long time ago. How can I stop this annoyance? Is there a registry tweak?

2. I have tried right clicking on my desktop, selecting properties > appearance > advanced, then changing general icon sizes, but that made no difference either.
3. I have tried right clicking on all drives to 'automatically fix file system errors' after a restart.. no difference!

.........anything else I should try, aside from a complete reinstall of XP without SP3?! I know that SP3 might not have been the cause, but I have not installed anything new, and have never had this issue with icons before.

thanks for any help, if possible!

Hi, I've used this forum many years to find advice, now I'm stuck and need to ask a question (hopefully in the right section):

My Window File Explorer is constantly crashing (say at least 10 times a day!). This happens mostly when I open file directories which contain image files, some directories with thumbnails, some without. Occasionally it happens in other directories too. It's bloody not helping to get anything done.

System: Windows 7 Pro 64bit

History: my previous computer had hardware problems, went back and forth to ASUS 3 times, in the end there wasn't much left to change (first display, then harddisk, then motherboard plus SSD). At a late stage of this back-and-forth I tried to back up my data with Paragon, but failed (the was an i/o conflict - reason ASUS changed the motherboard), so I simply copied all contents of my D-drive onto an external harddisk (WD MyPassport). I finally received an exchange computer from ASUS and copied the entire contents back onto D. Ever since my File Explorer is crashing constantly, specially when I try to open any directory which contains images or graphic files. These crashes occur since day one after I moved the files back onto the freshly installed (and virgin) Windows system!

I have since tried all sorts of fixes (like clear and reset the thumbnail cache via disk cleanup, run Ccleaner, TuneUp 2014, etc.), but I seem to get nowhere.

Currently I cannot do a system repair from DVD, because both my system copies on DVD and my ext... Read more

A:File Explorer crashing (constantly), mostly in directories with images

The same thing happened on my machine and after identifying and deleting all corrupt image files the problem remained. The solution for me was to move all user created video files onto an external HD.

Anyway in your case it looks like the culprit is one or more corrupt image files.

Look at item 7 in this article for confirmation.

Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working Fix | gHacks Technology News

If you need help in identifying corrupt images I'll post a link to the software that I use but a simple solution would probably be to suspect the folder that you just opened when explorer crashed.

Hi everyone

If I have sorted all my Macrium images on a drive on the same physical hard drive that Windows boots from, would all my Macrium images be lost if the drive failed?
I have been expecting that any images are a rigid file not affected by virus or failing hard drive

However, as you see in this screenshot below, I am told if the drive failed all my data will be lost.
So my question is even all images created by other backing up software, such as MAcrium etc.

If Images are affected, then I think it will not be useful to store all images on the same internal drive.

But if all your images are stored on an external hard drive and your external drive is not in hand because you are traveling, so if you needed restoring images, it will be impossible.

A:Images are a rigid file not affected by virus or failing hard drive?

TheBeholder, Yes, if your drive physically fails, your images would be gone.

That's why the warning block pops up.

Macrum and other system images are nothing but huge files and are liable to be corrupted or destroyed.

Keep them on a portable hard disk works fine.

Hi there,

Currently coming across an issue with Gmail where images I receive in various emails are treated differently depending on if an image has an href around it or if image maps are used.

If an image has an href wrapped around it, the image appears normally on mouseover. However, when an image map is used, for portions where a map doesn't cover a section of the image, an option to download the image as an attachment appears on mouseover.

Is there any particular reason for this? I assume it's something to do with when an image isn't linked, Gmail allows a user to download the image, otherwise it doesn't? Or maybe it's how the cursor action is interpreted? (i.e. if the cursor is forced to using the link scenario then the scenario for it to be treated as an attachment doesn't occur, so the attachment icon doesn't appear?)

Note that this happens in all browsers to my knowledge.

If anyone has any thoughts please let me know.

Is there a plug-in, add-on, or any way at all to make it so that images viewed in Firefox, and images alone, are brighter than everything else? So text won't be affected, nor plain solid colors used as background colors for web pages. The reason being that my computer's brightness, contrast, and gamma are all set to 0% thru the NVIDIA Control Panel for the sake of my eyes (when I watch movies they're way too dark this way so I set them instead at 50%, but once I close the movie I have to set them back to 0% because the brightness attacks my eyes otherwise). I'm happy with that minimum brightness level in every way except images. I always wished any and all images--jpgs, pngs, gifs, bmps, etc.--could have their own brightness setting, either on my computer as a whole or just in my Firebox browser. I'd like to make all images and only images about 25-75% brighter than normal. I don't need suggestions to increase the general brightness, even a little, or else my eyes will notice the difference because even just a basic solid white background like the one I'm typing on now would then be too bright for my liking.
Again, I'm only looking for a way to make all images, even if just limited to specifically jpgs, gifs, and pngs, receive their own brightness level, separate from anything else, either all images viewed on the machine, or, what I assume is more likely to exist, just all images viewed on the Firefox browser. I've been manually setting the brightness level myself when I'd ... Read more

What is the difference ?

Which is better?

A:Differential Images vs Incremental Images

The benefits of differential and incremental backup (Differential, Incremental)

Incremental backup vs differential backup: difference and benefits of each one

I think -

Differential = Full Backup - Differential Backup (whatever changed after full backup) - Differential Backup (whatever changed after full backup) - so on ----- i.e every differential backup will have whatever changed after full backup.

Incremental - Full Backup - Incremental Backup (whatever changed after full backup) - Incremental Backup (whatever changed after incremental backup) - Incremental Backup (whatever changed after last incremental backup) - so on ------ i.e every incremental backup will have whatever changed after last incremental backup.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I believe you can do this by using a program called "CutePDF". Here is the link to the CutePDF website: CutePDF - Convert to PDF for free, Free PDF Utilities, Save PDF Forms, Edit PDF easily.

There's a free version but I am sure that's limited as what you can do. It's possible that you might need to get the Professional version in order to print PDF files in bigger size.

My core hard drive has 3 partitions.. 1 for hidden 7 at 100mb, 1 for core windows C: at 120gb, and another at 356gb for my profiles// docs etc..

I am starting to run a bit low on the C: partition. Programs, games, etc.. I need to pull some space from the D: to C:. I have tried Disk management, and Easeus partition manager, both of which will let me Shrink the D Drive, however, neither will let me add storage onto the C: Drive once it is un-allocated.. Wondering if anyone has a suggestion I can use to accomplish this..

Sound to me like you need to move some personal Data to the D drive.
Adding a partition might be a waste of space.

This is kind of a trivial problem compared to some here but it is driving me crazy. My computer crashed in March and I took it into the shop. They reloaded Windows XP and put on sp2 (which I couldn't do because I needed too many things to get it and would have lost my Roxio CD Burning software.) I used to have WMP8 and now they put on WMP 10.

I am still trying to learn how to use it. The problem is when I am watching a video, it goes to the full screen and I can not get it smaller, either by choosing view 50% or using the little arrows to shrink it. It just stays full screen even after a reboot. It will not budge using the little arrows and I end up doing a system restore to get it back to 50%.

Now on the view menu, video size both fit video to player on resize and fit player to video on start are both checked, also 50%. is checked. Should one of these or both be unchecked or is my problem something else. Thanks, Darlene

A:WMP 10 resize problem

OK the first one is to resize the video when you resize the screen size of WMP. The other is to make WMP fit to the video specifications. If you want to resize it, click on the middle button on the top right (looks like one box over another). This will allow you to resize the player by going to the edge, click and hold and drag it to your specifications that you like.

Hi, I have a hard rdive partitioned as C (NTFS inc Corrupt copy of Windows XP and Boot.ini), D (ext NTFS inc working XP and all program files and data), and E (ext FAT32). The reference to corrupt windows has been removed from Boot.ini. Partition D is now full and I want to use the empty space on C by resizing rather than merging and risking making the system unstable, but neither Acronis or Paragon Disk Manager will move the free space as C is in use. Is this possible? I see that the window edges cannot be dragged to enlarge them. It would sure help my aging eyesight to make the standard calculator about twice its size.

A:Resize calculator

I'm afraid not. Even if it would allow you to resize the window itself, it would require that the various controls (buttons) would also be resizable. I found a program called Sizer that allows changing the calculator's window size but the buttons and display boxes still stayed the same size.

You could temporarily change the screen resolution which would make the calculator bigger on the screen but that isn't a particularly elegant solution.

You could try searching for an alternative 3rd party calculator that is resizable but I personally don't know of any.

A:Can't resize my Partition

A "picture" (e.g. screenshot) of what DISKMGMT.MSC shows for your hard drive would be very helpful.

Depending on the physical layout of the two partitions on your drive, you many need to "move" things around as part of your goal to resize things to add some additional space to your Win7 partition.

Note that EACH OS sees itself as located on "C" when it is booted, but sees the other partition as a different drive letter (either D, or E, or you say B... whatever it initially was, or what you changed it to using DISKMGMT.MSC). What we really need to know though is the PHYSICAL layout of things on your hard drive, in order to prescribe an approach to accomplish what you want to accomplish.
I'd suggest you download and install Paritition Wizard (free) Home Edition v5.2 along with its standalone boot CD which you can burn by downloading this ISO file. The program itself runs under WinXP, Vista and Win7, so you can see drive letters (per the installed OS under which you run the program). But mostly, it will present the physical layout of the drive, which is what we need to see. A screenshot from PW would be helpful, although one from DISKMGMT.MSC is fine as well.

The standalone Partition Wizard boot CD is for emergencies, disaster/recovery, and for partition-related operations that cannot be performed while the Win7 operating system is active but must be run while standalone booted. It is very possible that you will need to use this standa... Read more

Hi people,

This is my first post on this forum so please bear with me!

My question is:
I have a new notebook and I have used windows bit-locker on the C drive. My notebook didn't come with a TPM chip so I used a work around to get it working by using a flash drive with the keys installed on it, so I just plug the stick in at the boot process for everything to load up successfully.

However Ive installed VMware and its taken up a lot of space on drive C. what I want to do now is allocate some of the free space on the D: drive to the C drive, if that makes sense?

Just to clarify my D: drive has no bit-locker encryption on it, but my C: drive does.

Want I want to know is can i just use a partition tool to give the C drive some more space or will this cause problems as its using the bit-locker software?

Also if I can do this, whats the best partition tool to use?

Many thanks in advance,

A:Resize Partition

I have no clue as to what the final result is supposed to be...but it seems to me that simply moving appropriate data files is much simpler in overall impact...than resizing a partition.

It will not work like that. The unallocated space you created is not on the same side as the C:, There is no way to have it work like that.

I've been doing some stuff with quicktime on-line and I'm struggling getting it to work with IE (works ok with FF and Chrome.) Admittedly I've cut and pasted a bunch of stuff. The so called 'production' stuff has a lot going on but I've cut out as much as I can to demonstrate the issue. This is a QT video clip which I want to be able to re-size. What I'm showing HERE is an enlarged version which in IE the picture doesn't enlarge to fill the enlarged space. It works with FF and Chrome but not IE. I could probably reduce some of the javascript for this example but I use it for other things in determining timing aspects of the video. Thanks for any suggestions.

A:QuickTime Vid won't resize in IE

I edited the page and took out all the javascript and changed the embed Scale attribute to "TOFIT" as per Apple and it still doesn't work properly in IE. Hmmm.....

I have not done this in several years. I need to resize the partitions on a friends laptop. I don't want to mess it up. Ok, so C: has a lot of extra free space. E: is basicly full and that is where Win7 wants to put it's restore points when doing win7 Updates. I want to shrink C: then expand the unallocated space to E: I will use Partition Wizard, but I want to confirm the steps, so it works on the first attempt. Here are the Snips

A:Help - Doc wants to resize HD partitions

E shouldn't be getting used for anything Doc, why are the restore points going there?

Any chance I could get this resized to 90 pixels max (by whatever the smaller would be) and under 30k? Sorry, I don't have good enough software to do animated resizing.

My daughter's new Hp a6750F has 8gb ram & 750gb H/D. Out of box C drive listed as 685gb & D- recovery Drive 8 gb. Wanted to resize C drive to 85gb, 200gb, 200gb, 200gb. Vista Disk management appears to allow the C drive to only be resized/ reduced by no more then 50%. We tried to resize by 50% then resize again and this was not allowed to happen. Totally lost when they spoke of pagefiles taking up sectors etc. Is there a trick in getting the size partitions you want in Vista.

Hard to believe HP engineers would believe someone with this size drive would not want to resize/partion into smaller drives. We keep almost all data on drives other then the C drive.

My solution thought is to order ( was going to anyway) a set of recovery/install disks and start from scratch. assume this will work. Besides once we resized the original drive the original D: drive recovery will wipe out the new partitions in a restore.

P.S. later in year I will purchase a 1T additional drive & a 1T external backup for her to use. I assume we should format them immediately & set new partitions rather then try & doing any resizing.

Thank You

OK here's the story. I created a dual boot after installing linux, then I deleted it and the partition leaving 20 gigs of free space.I want to return that space to my windows partition. Is this possible?I played around with partition magic but got no joy.

A:Resize Partition

Generally, if it's adjacent to the windows partition you can merge them. If it's not next to the windows partition, then I'd discourage it and suggest that you just format it and give it another drive letter.

The reason for not merging non-adjacent partitions is that it requires many steps from partition magic to complete. And each step introduces the opportunity for errors to occur. It's been my experience in the past that operations such as this will corrupt data - so I recommend against it.

Not sure if I've posted in the right place but on the Samsung site they have a survey dialog box that is too large for the screen. Other than changing resolution, is there a way to view the entire box? Even when placing the pointer on the top portion and moving up it is still too large to see the bottom.

A:Resize Dialog Box

Maybe hitting F11.

I'm trying to resize my C: partition so that I can create a separate 160 GB partition, but all of the options on MiniTool Partition Wizard are greyed out. And Disk manager is reporting 40 GB of possible space to shrink even though there's 259 GB free. I've reinstalled Wizard, defragged, and nothing works. The computer came with a backup partition that I incorporated into a single partition a long time ago, so that's the only thing I can think of that could have screwed something up.

Here's a screenshot of Wizard and disk manager if it helps:

Thanks for any help!

A:Can't resize my partition

As far as Disk manager goes, it has to be continuous free space for it to be able to use it.
It sounds like you have [Files]{free space}[files]{free space}. The last free space being 40 GB. And depending on what the files are the standard windows defrag won't always move them. If they are in use and locked by a program it won't touch them. You'll likely have to boot up to a utility to do it and not run it from Windows. I'm not that familiar with the Mini tool so I can't tell if you are running it from Windows or bootable media.

I'm aware that Partition Magic is good for resizing partitions, but is there any freeware available which can do the same thing? My C drive no longer boots (device error???) so I used the XP startup disc to create a D drive and boot into that. I was then able to copy important files from C directly into the new drive. The problem is that the C drive is partitioned to use 95% of my hard drive. I'd like to be able to change this percentage and make the D drive larger. I hope this makes some sense. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Can Vista's Hiberfil.sys file be resized down to 75% ?

If so what is the proper command?

From an elevated command prompt window without success I have tried;
PowerCfg.exe /HIBERNATE /SIZE 75, and powercfg -h -size 75

Both return "Invalid Parameters"

All help appreciated

A:Resize Hiberfil.sys

Hello Glatzfront,

Double check to see if hibernate is enabled and that you have the hidden C:\hiberfil.sys file.

powercfg -h -on

Hope this helps for now,
