Hi,

I have just installed the audio driver for my motherboard, restarted the computer and it seems that driver doesn't do anything at all. I have the speaker icon in the tray bar with a red 'x' on it, and it says: "No Audio Output Device is installed". Why is that? I tried the driver that's on the motherboard CD and also the one from Realtek's website, and while they are different versions, the problem is identical.

Please advise.

You have posted in Windows 7 forum but your spec says
OS: Windows Vista
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-P35C-DS3R
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
RAM: Kingston 2GB DDR2 667Mhz
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD2400XT
2. Is it the same system please but with 7, if NOT please post the spec
3. What does device manager show please for sound - on the entry there

Hi there, I just installed Windows XP on a computer that was severely infected. I had to wipe the hard drive partition and started a new installation of XP professional, however after installing it, I can no longer see the speakier icon on the task manager.

I tried updating drives from the device manages but it says that there are no drivers installed. I follow the stes where you direct or browse the drives to install and if fails bacause it doesn't find the drivers.

I installed a HDA Bus Driver and restarted my PC but still nothing..... Please help and thank you in advance for your time.

I'm trying to install the audio driver for my father's computer. He has Windows XP and his motherboard is an Asrock P4I45G. I downloaded the driver from Asrock's website:

But now I'm lost. There is no installation wizard, just a zip file. And I have no idea what to do next. Can anyone help?

A:Solved: Installing an audio driver

I'm assuming it's the C-Media audio driver for XP, dated 01-16-2004, that you downloaded and saved.

Place the ZIP file by itself in a folder on the desktop. Right-click the file, then click "Extract Here" from the list that appears. Once the extraction process completes in a few seconds, a folder containing several files will appear. (Note: You can now delete the ZIP file). Double-clicking the "Setup.exe' file will start the install process. Once it's complete, reboot the computer.

(Just in case you need it for future reinstall, I would burn off the folder to a CD-R)

Here's what i know about my computer:
Intel(R) G965 Express Chipset
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Cpu E6400 @ 2.13GHz
Sound is integrated
Sigmatel Audio Drivers.
OS Windows Xp Home Edition
Custom Built computer.
I think the drivers were called SigmaTel Audio 5.10.4821.0 , But I'm having trouble finding any kind that are non dell or gateway. I already contacted the computer guy who redid my computer and he said he can get the drivers off the net. So to save some cash I'm trying to find them myself. If anyone could help, I'd appreciate it.

Hello and thank you for this forum. I did see the question regarding this subject in OS/Vista but my question and OS is different.
I understand that Addictive Drums is a VST installation and I have Sony Sound Forge 9.0, Sony Acid Pro 6.0, Sonar 7 Producer Edition and Reason 4.0 all installed on one computer.
Question: How do i get any of the above to activate or recognize Addictive Drums?
Thank you for your time.

Hi,
I installed XP sp2. I earlier had the same one and I used drivermax to store all the previously used drivers and imported them after re-installing XP.
But the problem is sound doesnt play. There is no volume icon on systray. I went to control panel -> sounds and audio devices. There in the "volume" tab, next to the speaker icon at the beginning it says " no audio device". And the two options below "device volume" and "speaker settings" are greyed out.

When I try to play it says: "Cannot play as theres a prob with ur sound device. There may not be a sound device installed, may be in use by another prog. or may not be functioning properly"

And the main thing is I have dual boot with Ubuntu and it works well.
Even before re-installing I had dual-boot and it worked ok.
Can someone please help me?
Thank you.

I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my computer after reformatting it.
The installation is successful but there is no Audio.
When i click on the properties of the Sound & Audio,
the error says: "Cannot start this device. Code 10".

I have tried to update it through Windows update, but there is no update for the audio driver,
it always says 'Your Audio Driver is Up to Date'.

I have manually tried to download and install the Audio Realtek HD sound Driver,
Still does not work.

Please Help!!

A:No Audio after installing Windows 7

Let's make sure that your playback devices are enabled.

Right-click the speaker icon on your taskbar > Select 'Playback Devices'
In the empty space, Right-click and select both 'Show Disconnected/Disabled Devices'
Do you see icons for your speakers and headphones now? You may need to enable both of these.

You can also try the troubleshooter to discover any connection issues that may exist, instructions are below:

Click 'Start' > Select 'Control Panel'
Type troubleshooting in the top-right search field > Select 'Troubleshooting'
Click 'Hardware and Sound' > Select 'Playing Audio'

Hello everyone.

I've had some flash sound problems for a week now, tried pretty much every possible solution and today I tried reinstalling audio drivers. Looks like I never should have done it.

I removed the old ones, downloaded latest ones for my audio card integrated in the motherboard (ASUS P5K) and installed. The drivers are on the computer, but nothing happens. I remove them and install the ones from the motherboard's CD. Then the real pain begins. The drivers won't install anymore. It just says that in bad grammar, Finnish in this case. OS is WinXP Pro.

A true finisher strike was me noticing the drivers on the CD and the latest ones I downloaded being the same drivers. I believe the soundcard integrated in the mobo is Realtek ALC883.

Can someone please tell me what is going on? This is driving me crazy

Last night, I'm watching the Colbert Report, and my computer starts rattling, so I lean in. Its the GPU. Third time with this card, the fan only lasts maybe 2 years tops. I turn it off, crack open the case, loosen the screws to give the fan more clearance, replace the card and the noise goes away. Actually, all noises went away. My computer could not detect any audio inputs!
I use headphones in the back and HDMI to a receiver, which both up until now worked perfectly. What's weird is that these channels are exclusive to the mobo and GPU, which means that this has to be a software problem or windows registry error. SO i reboot again. Now i have 8 driver problems, what the hell just happened?

ATI High definition Audio Device* (This device is occasionally listed as a AMD rather than ATI during re-detection post-uninstall)
High Definition Audio Device

So here's what I've tried...

System Restore - No change.

Safe mode Method 1: Boot Safe mode, uninstall drivers, install Realtek and ATI drivers for my Gateway FX6840 Mainboard and AMD Radeon HD 5770 GPU.
Method 2: Boot Safe, uninstall, wipe drivers with driver wiper, reboot into safe again, install downloaded drivers again.

No change.

Picture attached, please help, I'm normally pretty good, but this sounds like an upstream driver problem.

The connections weren't like the instructions stated, so I disconnected the speakers and reconnected to the computer (Dell desktop, Win XP). Now my speakers don't work anymore.

I've checked all the connections to the computer and no luck.

Any help is appreciated!

start with the obvious...if you are sure the speakers are in the right input?
double click the speaker icon in the system tray,
make sure nothing is muted or turned down.
try a system restore to before hooking that up.

Hi, I am having some problems getting these drivers to install correctly on my newly set up computer.

The first one I had an issue with was the intel chipset driver (INFUpdate).

First it would pop up with a window saying "PCI Standard PCItoPCI Bridge" with an ok button to install it,
Then the next window would pop up saying "PCI Standard ISA Bridge" with an ok button to install it.

After clicking ok on the ISA bridge one, it comes up with the following error:
ERROR:
An unknown rror occurred.
Setup will now exit.

Not a very usefull error code eh?
The second Driver I had an issue with, was the Audio device drivers (Realtek High Definition Audio Driver(2.96) R2.45).

After following the prompts to get the installer started, it looks as if it is going to work.
It opens up in full screen with the brand and everything on it, has the little installing bar going, while showing all of the file names it installs as it goes,
then a small window pops up over the installation progress bar, saying install sheild wizard installing, then it comes up with the following error:

Install sheild wizard installing
RUNDLL
Error Loading Streamci

Does anyone know what could be going wrong here, and how to fix the problem?

The Mother board is "Ultra Durable tm 3 Motherboard" ( GA-P55-UD3 )

The CPU I have is an Intel Core I7 2.8 Intel Core i7 -8 Series Socket 1156

Hi. I have a laptop with these specs:

Now, when I try to install the driver for my audio, then it gives an error message: "Microsoft Bus Driver should be loaded on your system before you install Realtek HD Audio Driver !"

You need a program called Quick Fix Escalation, but you can only get it by calling up Microsoft and talking to the tech support guys. Fortunately you can find it packaged with other drivers, but I don't know any off hand.

Background: A little while ago, the audio on my Windows XP Pro SP2 system
stopped working. I was using the on-board audio card and never had a problem
before. Then, the audio device just wasn't recognized by windows anymore.
When I went to the "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties" window from the
Control Panel, it would tell me that no audio device was detected. Looking
in the Device Manager, however, under the "Sound, Video and Game Controllers"
section, all drivers were installed properly, with no IRQ conflicts, and no
yellow exclamation points on any of the sound devices or codecs. I also
verified that my speakers were working on another system, obviously, and
ensured that the audio card was enabled in my motherboard's BIOS. I
downloaded the latest drivers for my motherboard (and on-board audio card),
uninstalled and successfully re-installed those drivers multiple times.
Still no sound! I even went out and bought a new PCI audio card, installed
it, downloaded and installed the latest drivers for it. STILL no luck. This
is when I really began to scratch my head.

Next, I tried a to do a non-destructive "Repair" of Windows using that
option from the Windows XP setup CD. I got errors doing that , and I gave up
after several attempts. Finally, on a cloned backup hard drive, I
re-installed Windows completely. Lo and behold, the audio worked fine!

This leads me to believe that some part of the Windows XP audio "su... Read more

I recently installed Windows 7 on my HP Pavilion dv2000 notebook. I did this without noticing it was muted. Now I have no audio. I have tried downloading a variety of vista compatible Conexant High-Definition Audio drivers and as yet none have worked.

The audio icon in my taskbar has a red circle with a white cross in it. When I try to install the latest driver through windows task manager it says I have the latest one. When I do a windows update I get no difference. Not really sure what I should do now. I'm out of ideas. Help? Please?

Hi,

I am really hoping if someone could help me with this issue that I am facing ever since I installed Windows 7 Ultimate (32 Bit).
I was using Windows XP Home edition prior to this.
After the installation of Windows 7, I saw in the Device Manager under the section "Sound" : Multimedia Audio Controller. This also had a yellow exclamation mark.

On my desktop, on the bottom right hand corner, if I click on the speaker icon (It has a red cross on it), it says "No audio devices are installed".

I have integrated sound card.

Can someone please tell me how to check what sound drivers I need and from where to install it?

I would really appreciate the help.

man am I lost. Win XP Pro SP3 on HP DC7100 3Ghz P4, 762mb Ram, 80 gb seagate.

I had this system working perfectly until Documents & Settings got messed up and started making duplicates of user accounts. wiped the drive, reformatted the slow way. Loaded Windows XP Pro SP3, as before. When I went to HP's support page, I was mystified that the Audio Driver was not listed. Went on Chat support and inquited. They say the audio Codec is ADI 1981B and to go there and get driver. So I did that. no worky.
Caused BSOD/dump.

I removed the video card. Booted in normal mode and it BSOD'd again. Booted into Safe Mode and it came up. Checked the Device Manager and it shows Realtek AC'97 installed with driver loaded [for first time].
I did change the IRQ settings in between these two bootups.

The baffling thing is that it all worked swell previously. i don't even recall a hiccup of any kind in loading the various drivers.
some gremlin in my office sabotaging devices!

Do I need to go into the registry and remove every entry relating to audio devices? how?

A:Solved: BSOD installing ADI 1981B Audio Driver. it worked before.. why now?

Go back to the HP support page and scroll down the page to the driver listings. Find the section for "Driver - Chipset" (below the BIOS and Diagnostic listings). The link is titled "Intel Chipset Support for Microsoft Windows". When you find it, click the black "Download" button to the RIGHT, and the chipset driver pack will download to your system. Save it to the Desktop, or some other place where you can find it easily.

The file name is "SP28061.exe"; it is less than 6 MB, so it should download quickly. Find the file and double-click it; the installer will run and replace your existing motherboard chipset drivers. Next, REBOOT THE SYSTEM; do NOT avoid rebooting. Windows will need to reboot to finish deleting the old files and installing the new ones.

Once you get back to the Desktop, test your sound and check Device Manager for problems (yellow exclamation marks). If everything is working properly, you got a bit lucky. If not, reinstall the ADI 1981B drivers again, and REBOOT, so Windows can get everything in order again.

After that, your sound problem should be fixed; let us know how this turns out.

Hi,

I have an old Dell DIMENSION 8300, Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4CPU 2.60GHz 2.59GHz, & 1.00GB of RAM that I ended up having to do a reformat of the hard disk yesterday and when installing the drivers I had run into some problems with the audio drivers. I have the utility disk that came with the computer, so I was installing the drivers with that. The audio driver showed to be 198xIntegrated Audio Driver Sound Max. When it gets to the installation process, it would run through and then an error would pop up saying "Driver not found, Reboot Your System and run step again". I tried this and it would not work. I checked in device manager and everything else seemed to be okay except under other devices/multimedia controller had the yellow question mark. I even went to Dell's downloads to get the same exact file and try it but it didn't work. The file for it was R58182. I did some searching on the net about this issue and there were other folks that had run into this problem but I couldn't find any resolution to it. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

I have a pro-audio multichannel sound card (SEK'D ARC88) I'm trying to install under XP Pro, SP3. I get a message saying that the "IRQ could not be occupied". It appears to be sitting on IRQ 16, which is shared with my ATI Radeon card. This device's driver will not work that way, it says so in the readme.txt.

I went into the BIOS, changed slots (from 1 to 2), and manually set the IRQ for that slot to IRQ5 in the BIOS, one that appears to be free on my system.

The card still wont initialize, I get the above message again. Windows is still seeing the card on IRQ16.

I suppose that I should have installed this card right off the bat, but that was then and this is now, I had my reasons why that couldn't happen.

I'd like to manually change the IRQ setting in device manager, but I can't, clicking on the checkbox doesn't unselect automatic configuration. Could there be a reg setting that would unlock the ability to turn that off? I am logged in as administrator - in fact the only usre on this system.

Thought I'd post this to see what you people think. Next steps, I think would be to boot into Safe Mode and see if I can change the setting there, and as a last resort, un-install the card and re install it again. Perhaps in yet another slot, and configured to IRQ5 ( disablilng IRQ5 for the slot it's assigned to)

That for the read...

S~

A:Solved: Difficulty installing SKED Pro Audio card - IRQ issue?

I still can't assign the IRQ manually, however the card is now on IRQ18, and quite happy to be there. It's not sharing with my ATI card, or anything else for that matter.

The solution turned out to be pulling it from PCI slot1 and installing in PCI slot3. The difference? On this motherboard slots 1 and 5 share resources, so do 2 and 6. Moving the card to slot 3 eliminated the issue. I still have to reinstall my firewire card (slot 5), and my 3rd audio card will sit in slot 2.

Contrary to popular belief, you can have more than 1 audio card in a system, I've had 3 in mine for many years.

I have installed realtek audio driver but still no audio.

Could you please advise how to fix this issue? Thank you.

If you installed RealTek, it did not take. The generic basic function Windows installed High Definition Audio Device is all that is showing for sound. Are you sure this PC has RealTek?

Looking at the Device Manager listing, this PC has other unidentified device problems. If there are motherboard chipset drivers for this model, install them as a first step.

More on the specs of this PC is needed. I looked at the Toshiba site but there are many different Portage M500 models.

I just installed the GameMuse DVD 5.1 driver to my Windows XP Pro because my sound wasn't working and now I can't get past the "Windows Is Starting Up" Screen. It will say video resolution not supported and then the only thing I can do is reboot.

This never happened before when I installed this driver, but it happened now after I installed and used Driver Genius Professional.

Please advise.

A:windows not starting right after installing new audio driver

Try these:

1. During startup, press F8 repeatedly (could be a different F-key, usually F8). If done right, you should come to a black screen with multiple selections, such as starting in safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, networking, etc. Select the "Start with last known good configuration" option and press enter. See if that helps.

2. In the event the above does not work, then do the same thing again and start in safe mode. If it allows you to do so, go into the device manager (right-click on "My Computer", properties, click the Device Manger button), select the device you installed the driver for, and roll-back the driver.

3. In the event neither of the above worked, do the same thing again, and start in safe mode. This time, try system restore. Try restoring to a point BEFORE you installed the driver.

4) Since i just installed everything i tried to format and re-install, but i got no results

Guys, I have problem with Realtek HD audio when sound plays. The sound skippies on some areas.

Please reply.

A:Sound Skippies on Windows 7 after installing Realtek HD audio

Sound is always on a shared IRQ (Interrupt) with a higher priority device. Depending on what the higher priority device is it could be interrupting the sound.

Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the RealTek entry and then LEFT click "Uninstall" DO NOT check the box to also uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. Sometimes this puts sound on a different shared IRQ and fixes the problem.

Just like the title says, I don't want the realtek audio drivers as it completely messes with my audio and also doesn't correctly switch when i plug in headphones for example.
It also doesn't allow for the 'speaker fill' enhancement to be used when playing stereo content through surround sound.

Windows itself does a far better job as opposed to realtek.

Every time i uninstall realtek it automatically gets reinstalled.

Sorry Microsoft, you don't know best.

Hey all,

After completely accidentally doing something called "RAID" to my hard drives, i am in the position of having to re-install Windows. Unfortunately the Windows disk keeps telling me that i have no hard drive.

I have found this tutorial: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/wind...d-disk-drives-during-windows-xp-installation/ ...which seems to be based on the assumption that the problem is that Windows XP does not have SATA drivers.

I don't know if that is the problem, but i am going to try it anyway. Unofrtunately, you need a SATA driver to try it. I have been to the manufacturers website: http://www.gigabyte.com.au/products/product-page.aspx?pid=1719&dl=1#driver

...and found a list of drivers for my machine. One of them says "SATA RAID". I don't think i want RAID, and, looking at the manual that comes with that driver, it doesn't look like it is a SATA driver, it looks like it is for something else involving RAID that i don't understand.

Does anyone know how to get a SATA driver?

A:Solved: Installing Windows XP Home; Windows refuses to recognise hard drives

I believe the SATA drivers you need are these ones:

"Intel ICH5R /ICH6R /ICH7R (Preinstall driver, press F6 during Windows* setup to read from floppy)"

Download them and extract them onto a floppy or CD, then during the intial windows setup (when it is loading device drivers) it will come up with an option to install 3rd party SATA / RAID drivers, you press F6 at this point and then browse to the drivers to install them. This should allow the system to utilise the SATA drives to install windows.

Hello, I was asked to see if I could get a Dell Dimension 2400 (G6GLP41) working. When I received it, it would come up to the desktop but that took about 15 min. Only recycle bin showing. No drivers etc. It appears someone had already tried to reinstall the OS with the Dell reinstallation CD which came with it. So, I attempted to do the same thing again, deleting the active partitions and letting the CD reformat, repartition etc. All went well until files began loading back on the hard drive. It would get 10% then stall on a particular file, continue after 20 minutes loading maybe another few %. Like that, maybe getting 36% over the next couple hours. So, I replaced RAM actually increasing to 1G, and then replaced the HD. Same thing's happening. Oh, and there were two Reinstallation CDs with the PC. Identical. I used them both. Each time the installation stalled, it happened on the same files. The RAM I don't mind upgrading to, the HD maybe the store will take back. He kinda hinted that we would. Any ideas what trbl may be ? Possibly CD drive problem ?

Hi! I'm a fresh user here with a not-so-fresh problem. I'm not really tech-smart so even-an-idiot-would-know terms are appreciated. Using Acer Aspire 3600.

The Problem:

A few days ago my laptop suddenly stopped responding properly. I was using it normally in the morning, shut it down, went out for lunch and when I came back I was unable to turn it on. The logo screen would show up, then it'd go black. And nothing would happen. So yesterday, I went and got it checked. The guy said there was something wrong with the partition(what is it?), and that the drive was old and nearly expired(?). He said he would format my drives and reinstall windows for me, but I told him I could do the installation myself(with full confidence). So (I think) he just reformatted the drives and I returned home with a window-less laptop. I got home, and immediately attempted to install windows. But no avail.

I've installed windows XP onto a desktop PC before and I'm using the same CD to install this one(a friend lent it to me. just said 'stick the cd in and reboot. it'll do the rest by itself' so I did exactly that and it worked the first time). But now when I put in the windows CD and restart the laptop, the logo screen comes on and I get a blue/gray screen titled 'Boot Device' with the options Hard Drive, CD-ROM/DVD Drive , Floppy Device and Network Boot. Choosing the any of the first three options will make the screen flash once, but stays in the ... Read more

Hi,

I currently have Windows XP installed on my Hard Disk Drive. All my current files and documents and programs are also stored in this Hard Disk Drive.

I would like to install Windows 7 onto my new Intel X25-M Solid State Drive 80Gb.

How do I get my computer to boot off the SSD yet keep the HDD as the storage device. And do you recommend me deleting Windows XP of my HDD?

Using 2 Drives at once is new to me, and I'm not quite sure how it works. Similarly, using SSD's is also new to me.

Is there also anything I should know about or do when using a HDD and an SSD together?

A:Solved: Installing Windows 7 onto SSD

As far as I understand (unless someone corrects me) an SSD drive is installed the same as a normal hard drive.
Install the ssd drive and just to make sure you have no problems disconnect the power lead to the original boot drive.
When you boot from the Win 7 disc it should the new drive and away you go.
When windows has finished reconnect the old drive and use this as a data drive.
Just make sure the new drive is set as first boot in bios

This is the laptop I am installing it on: Asus k52jc.

Specs from asus's website
K52JC - Notebooks & Ultrabooks - ASUS

I am trying to install windows 7 home premium 64 bit onto the new hard drive. I created a bootable usb but am getting the following errors:

- No Drives were found. Click Load Driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation.
- To install the device driver needed to access your hard drive, insert the installation media containing the driver files.
- No signed device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers.

I know this is a common problem and I've searched and really can't find a solution.

Other notes-
The hdd does appear in bios
I used my asus recovery disks. Thought it would help, unsure if it did or it is affecting this install

I couldn't backup the files in a specific partition containing the software like on Partition C:. So now I cannot boot into windows because I accidently used KillDisk to delete the partition containing the windows application and such. Is there any way I can enter my desktop?

A:Solved: Installing Windows

Unless im missing something kill disk erased whatever was on the partition such as the operating system etc.Without that you are going to have to do a complete reinstall because now unless im wrong you have no operating system on there at all its gone.killdisk should only be used if a computer is going to be sold or donated otherwise its a drastic fix and wipes the drive. something else might of worked that would of been a lot easier to fix and deal with.

A:[SOLVED] Help Installing Windows XP SP 3

if you bought a new computer, there needs to be a OS in it... why isn't there one on it?

GRUB loader is the boot manager of a Linux distro, what means that the system is already booting the hard drive.

you 'll have to put the cd-rom drive as the primary booting device. you can change that in the BIOS.

Hi All,

I have a Sony Vaio running with Windows XP Home installed, I am having all sorts of problems with it so I have decided to do a fresh install of XP Professional or Vista.
My question is, as my laptop came with the operating system and all other drivers pre installed, will it be just a case of formatting the hard drive and installing XP or will I somehow need to copy all of the other drivers e.g. graphic card, sound card?
I have a genuine XP disc that I have installed on my desktop pc, could I use this to possibly "repair" my laptop system?

The problem started after I restored to an earlier date and I had a conflict with 2 anti virus programs but Windows will not let me delete 1 and keeps bringing up a warning message.
I was also wondering if it would let me delete it if I went into it in Safe mode?

Thanks in advance for your help.
Craig.

A:Solved: Re installing Windows XP

When installing Windows from fresh you will need to format the drive, Install Windows and enter your licence key and then install the manufacturer's drivers (These can be found on a disc supplied with the laptop or on the Sony website). A repair install of Windows will replace system files but keep your files and programs installed so this wouldn't solve you anti-virus program issue. You may be able to uninstall the programs in safe mode but make sure you actually got to Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs rather than just deleting the folders. If this doesn't work try using Revo Uninstaller

Well I just solved my problem. I took out an iomega zip drive that i installed into my build and install windows 7 64 bit. It slipped by the "NTLDR " missing message.
Now I am going to get the discs from the source to do a proper install. This is just an informative message to let you all know that it was a hardware problem not bios? or was it still bios because the zip drive hardware presented a bios problem? Interactions between bios and hardware was the factor that caused "NTDLR file missing" to come up.

Hi all. after googling for quite a while, I'm still stuck. Here's my problem. I'm trying to re-install Windows XP using the XP disk (not recovery disk, actual windows xp cd). Now I have did it before with no problems, but when I click to delete the partition of which the "old" install of XP is on, I get this message -

"Setup is unable to perform the requested operation on the selected partition. This partition contains temporary setup files that are required to complete the installation"

I have no recovery CD's as it wasn't a "bought computer package" if you know what I mean, only the Windows XP CD. I did find a solution but it involved having a boot disk. I havent got a floppy disk drive by the way so I couldn't do that. All I have is the Windows XP CD

Hey I'm new to these forums and I'm not 100% positive this is where I'm supposed to be making this post but I'll try it out and see what happens.

I'm currently experiencing a problem with my windows audio service. Everytime my computer uses audio, whether it be through the internet browser (Latest version of Firefox), a game or Windows Media Player, my Windows Audio Service will stop as soon as I close whichever program I was using that was using sound. I'm running Windows XP on my machine.

I scan my computer a few times a week for malware, spyware etc...( I use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Spybot Search & Destroy, I also use EasyCleaner for removing temp files and cookies) I also run Avast! Home edition on my computer. I search for updates for all of the utilities I use prior to each use.

I've updated my audio driver, I've done it a few ways from just running the driver via the .exe file to uninstalling my audio device, deleting the old driver and running my new driver .exe to install my audio device.

It's onboard sound...I'm not too sure what other information should be added here. If anymore information is required please let me know.

A:[SOLVED] No Audio After Updating To Windows 7

Hi -

Make sure your audio is compatible with Windows 7.

Run - Download Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor from Official Microsoft Download Center

Check system/mobo manufacturer for a BIOS update. Audio issues were rather common for new (upgrade) W7 users & BIOS updates fixed many systems. Is W7 a supported OS for the mobo?

Be sure that you have the latest audio drivers installed & they must be W7 compatible. You can't go by Device Manager telling you the latest drivers are installed -- go to Realtek

Try these -
- Driver Reference Table - RtHDMIV.sys
- Driver Reference Table - RTKVHDA.sys
- Driver Reference Table - RTDVHD64.sys

It may happen when you copy the file from your friend's computer, on which the file was sharing among Network previously.
Try changing its format using some third Party Software. There is a wonderful application available internet called "Format Factory". Download and install it in your computer, and now convert its format to ".avi" or ".wav" or any other Video file. By this a fresh new file is created. Now play the new file using your VLC Media Player. I am sure it may work.

Hello. Im having problems with my audio drivers/sound card. The problem is, that i cant hear anything. I tried to install realtek high-definition audio drivers but it did not help. Also i installed realtek AC97 but still i cant hear anything. My operating system is windows 7 and motherboard is Asrock 939SLI32-eSATA2. And i installed windows 7 yesterday. Everything other works perfectly. (Windows says that it installed audio driver software but i cannot see any. I tried to go control panel -> hardware and sound -> Manage audio devices and all what i see is Digital Audio (S/PDIF) High definition audio device, and i cannot configure or change it's drivers. When i go properties -> Driver -> Update Driver... and try to change/update drivers it says that "the best driver software for your device is already installed" and uninstalling does not help.
So it seems that windows does not recognize realtek drivers or something... (or am i wrong?)

A:Solved: Windows 7 audio problem

I'd first try to download and install the latest chipset and then audio drivers from your PC or motherboard manufacturer's web site.

I don't know too much about it, but the fact that Digital Audio (S/PDIF) High definition audio device is your only option makes me think that a driver is missing or incorrect. I would expect there to be at least some kind of "Speakers" option, as in my attachment.

Hello everybody!

Ok, so a couple days ago i turn on my computer and bam no audio. Clicking on the little sound icon only shows "No audio output device installed". double clicking on it brings up a msdt.exe that only leads to an error "0x80070490". Because my sound is connected through HDMI connected from my graghics card to my tv and then out through an external speaker system, i simply unplug the speaker's cord from my tv and plug it into the output on the back of my computer and it started working again back to normal. However a day later it completely stopped working again.

So of course i scour the internet for help, i uninstall and re-install the drivers to no avail through device manager. "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" as it is called in my device manager (there is two of them actually, the other being my NVIDIA drivers that i uninstalled out of desperation) shows a yellow exclamation mark and brings up a (Code 1) "device not configured properly".

Whatever happened also managed to add an exclamation point next to my cd/dvd drive and plug and play software device enumerator as well. Do you have a Vista driver? The Vista drivers should work OK on Win 7. Have you tried downloading the driver again? Maybe the driver you have is corrupted. Also, if there are motherboard chipset drivers, did you install them? On many systems the chipset drivers must be installed before installing sound drivers.

Anyway, everything else works perfectly, I installed all other drivers, but I am having serious trouble installing IDT HD Audio.

I tried to install:

Download IDT HD Audio Driver 6.10.6222.0 for Win7 Driver for Windows 7 - Softpedia

Download HP IDT HD Audio CODEC Driver 6.10.6225.0 Rev.A for Win7 Driver for Windows 7 / Windows 7 x64 - Softpedia

But everytime I tried to install it it showed me an error saying: The hardware detected is not supported by this IDT software package. The install will be aborted.

Could anyone help me, please? How could I install it? on Win XP I was running on IDT audio and I pretty much loved it.

Thanks,

Did you try running it as an administrator?

I have an old Auzentech X-Plosion Cinema sound card and Realtek audio connections on my P8P67 motherboard.

Would there be any problems if I installed drivers for both and switched between them?

A:Installing two audio drivers

You can only have one default audio playback device but not both at the same time. Unless you run into a conflict it should work OK. Just as noted you will have to manually change the default playback device to whichever one you want to use in the Sound Panel.

Hi all got one I cannot figure out. I have a 3tb disk I want to use as my boot disk with the full 3tb available. However when I go through the windows setup it's only seeing 2tb

The main board is a sabertooth z77
Hard disk is a seagate ST3000DM001

Any help greatly taken!

A:[SOLVED] Installing windows 7 on 3tb disk

If you wish to use a hard-drive larger than 2TB, you must initialise it as a GPT disk rather than a MBR disk.

See here for a guide.

I hope this helped!

Hi Everybody. I'm having a problem, that I can't seem to figure out and I need some help.

I just built a new computer with all brand new parts. It boots from the windows xp cd and starts loading all the necessary files. Then is says "setup is starting windows" and just shuts off as if I pulled the power cord. It shuts off at the same place every time.

In linux it shuts off at the exact same spot every time to. Where it says "Reading Package Information".

I tried swapping out the power supply, but it does the same thing.
I tried swapping out the memory, but it does the same thing.
I tried swapping out the CD drive, but it does the same thing.
I tried installing linux, but it shuts off at basically the same place.

Here is my hardware configuration:
Motherboard: Chaintech 7VIF4
Processor: AMD Athon XP 2900+ 400FSX Barton Core
Memory: Ultra 512 MB PC2700 DDR 333

Any help? I am all out of ideas.

Hi, I'd like to know if it's possible to install both 32- and 64-bit versions of XP on the same disk, separate partitions. Which of them should I install first if I were to choose to do so? And, about how much space should I make for the Windows installments? I'm planning to install and store every other possible thing to a 3rd or 4th partition. How much programs/drivers/ other random stuff will I have to install to the same partition as the XP installment(s)? If I install for example a game while working on the other XP, how can I have it marked/merged into the other XP's registry?

I have a Netbook... which had Windows 7 and i flashed it with Windows XP and Linux... now comes a time where i want Windows 7 back on it... would acquiring another copy/media to install on the netbook but still using original Serial underneath it for fresh installation of Windows 7 be legal?

The Netbook had a factory restore partition which had Win 7 but deleted it prior to Win/Linux dual installations

A:Solved: Installing Windows 7 - Legal or Not?

It's legal, but you need to use the same edition of Windows 7 that was originally installed. Most netbooks came with Windows 7 Starter.

I have Win 7 and Vista installed on adjacent partitions. I wish to reinstall the Vista portion. I have done this before but generally there have been issues with Vista overwriting the mbr and having to reinstall the Win7 as well. Will EasyBCD recover the boot information for the Win 7 after I have reinstalled the Vista, or is there something else I need to do? I am replacing Vista x64 with Vista x86. I assume I will need to reformat that partition. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

A:[SOLVED] installing Vista after Windows 7

Yes, if you install Easy BCD first

Hi,

I just re-installed windows but the problem is that I have 3 partitions. The partition which Xp is installed on is only 2gb (F).

The C: is 146gb (102free) and that's the one my old xp was installed on. The setup didn't format that, I couldn't because it had the setup files on it.

Then there is another partition which is only 8mb??? I don't know why?

What I would like to do is to format the C: and maybe only have 2 partitions.

Or can you suggest anything? Thanks.

Hi,

I have a Gateway 6023gp laptop running Windows XP Pro with the sp2 service pack. It has a 40gb hardrive with approximately 30gb in the C drive. The other 10gb is on my D drive.

The other day, I decided to redownload Real Player, but it kept insisting that I didn't "have permission from the administrator" to do so. That's been pretty frustrating, since I am the Administrator, as the only owner the computer has ever had.

It turns out that this is apparently a fairly common complaint with Real Player, and Real Networks has a work-around that includes trying to install the program in Safe Mode.

Imagine my dismay, however, when I started the computer in safe mode, only to find that I really am NOT the administrator on my computer! In safe mode, someone unknown is apparently the Administrator. Mind you, this person does not show up as a user when the computer in on in regular mode; and I show up as the Administrator. But this Administrator has "their" entry passworded, and so I can't get in and make changes.

Happily, this is more of a shock than a reason for despair. Since I do own the computer, I have the disks to strip the and re-install the operating system, and fully intend to do as soon as humanly possible. But I've never had to do anything like that, so I have a few questions.

First: what is the best way to save or remove docs and files that I want to keep? I have a huge jumpdrive (32gb) that I recently bought with the intention o... Read more

I suspect it was really a permissions error, but gave the message about being an administrator
