Hi all! First time poster here, and over the past six or so months I've been trying to ensure that my wife and I have secure computers. We're behind a hardware firewall, a Dlink wireless router, so I'm talking specifically about security software that I have purchased and installed on both of our computer(s).

It may be overkill, but this is what I've got:

1) ZoneAlarm Pro Anti-virus + Firewall
2) Malwarebytes Anti-malware Home (Premium)
3) Malwarebytes Anti-exploit (Premium)
4) Adblock Plus
5) Secunia PSI

I'm also pretty meticulous about making sure that we're up to date on patches, software updates, etc.

I just wanted to run this by you all, and see what you thought. Thanks.

A:Required security software

Good choice.. I'd like to look at this from a different angle..

What precautions have you taken against
a. Ransomware
b. Theft
c. Disk failure

a. To stop it:
Download CryptoPrevent - MajorGeeks
To recover from it:
Use disk imaging e.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + boot medium + external storage (remote location preferred).

b + c:
Use disk imaging e.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + boot medium + external storage (remote location preferred).

Ok so there is a website where I want to upload a large number of files for business related purposes. The problem is, some files are not uploaded due to invalid characters present in the file names like an "&" or "@" etc. etc.

I'm looking for a utility that can help scan a folder or a drive with a large number of files, and point out the files with the characters not accepted. Is there such a software?

I have recently had to re-enter all my software onto a new hard drive, and I cannot trace two small utilities which I found very useful. Can anyone point me towards a site where I can download these.
One was for an Ink Status Monitor. My Epson C86 printer does not want to tell me the Ink levels, now that it has a new Driver for Windows XP. Epson,of course, has not supplied an XP Driver,so that I have to use a Windows 2000 Driver, and XP does not like that.
The other was a free utility to allow me to print the full width of a Web-site. At present, using XP and an Epson Photo 900 printer, the printed page cuts off the ends of each line. I did have a small utility which gave me the whole line to print.
Can anyone help?

Im glad that you came to us. The short version is that most maintenance software will cause more problems than worth with Vista. Vista does not need much to work properly and too much will slow up and possibly even damage the registry.

Steps that I did not notice on the guide include:

Running a scan disc before doing a defrag

Using Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes.

Making System Restore points, at least once a week

Makaing a system Image once a month (varies by user)

Not relying on your A/V common sense, should prevail. You know of many sites can cause a problem.

Do not use any reg cleaning or optimizing software.

Download and use Ccleaner about once every two months. Untick any registry entries.

Looking for a good utility that i can check on a regular basis that will give me numbers in percent as far as resource usage listed by day. I have a few issues that i would like to be able to check to see if its a resource issue. There has to be something out there where you can get a really good picture of whats going on without all the complicated numbers. This will also help when im shopping for a new system in a few years to let me know what i need to increase on it, could be i just replace the motherboard next time with a better one. My current system is in my profile.

Basically im looking for:

Item total capacity
How much used
What is using it

And be able to set this at a certain number that it will alert me if it goes over that.

I had heard unusual noises coming from one of my (Western Digital) external hard drives so I went and checked to see if everything is okay.
I currently depend on 'HD Tune Pro' to give me an analysis on my hard drives, may it be bad sectors or it's general 'health'.
HD Tune had found something, but I figured I would get a second look from another software.
When I ran WD's own hard drive utility software and ran an extended test to check for bad sectors it had found nothing?
Now, usually seeing as I had used WD's own software to check for the issues, I would probably lean more towards WD's test results; but seeing as HD Tune is saying otherwise makes me a bit wary.
As I did hear unusual noises coming from the hard drive and all, I can't ignore the idea that maybe WD's software missed the mark while HD Tune noticed what I noticed.
I don't know, maybe there's another HD utility software that is better or something?
Any input would be appreciated.

A:A Trustworthy HD Utility Software?

I use the free Crystal Disc.
You have 2 bad sectors. These sectors can be fixed, immediately by the built in Ckdsk. The bad sectors are taken out of play. You can only do this so many times, however. This is normal and there is no problem unless it keeps happening and the numbers are large.
In step 4 check both boxes, to fix. It will take several hours
Disk Check
All of this being said, everyone should always have a back up. A drive can go bad at any time. I use the great Macrium Reflect for weekly back ups.

Not sure if I should post this here, or in the Security Forum.

Here's the info
We currently have a WinNT Domain with a whole ton of security groups (local and global - think they went a little hog wild on creating groups). Now, I'm migrating the site to W2K3 AD and can't think of a super easy way of what groups have what rights to what with all of the groups they have, let alone all of the network shares, login scripts, etc... I'm trying to make this all as efficient as possible for when I leave here, if I leave here and simply migrate everything as is...

So, does anyone know of a utility out there (or maybe there's a canned utility that I just can't think of) to which may do this for me?

Thanks ahead of time

Hello All,

I work IT for a local middle school that runs about 20 student laptops per class. Lately we've noticed that there are students who've found ways of goofing off and going to youtube and watching videos or what have you (as one would naturally suspect). Anyways, I now find myself in need of some sort of monitoring software that would allow us to catch kids in the act of goofing off and not staying on task. Can anyone recommend any commercial software for this? Our computer total is at 95 and ideally we'd like to be able to monitor all screens so that we can find out who's not doing their work when they're supposed to. Of course minimum pricing is preferable since we're a public school and are therefore on a budget. Thanks for the help!

Dear all technicians and other IT guys...
I have passed my Microsoft & CompTIA A+ exams and I want to increase my knowledge base and become a better technician.

I would like to ask for some help, I need software's/programs that can help me repair computers, such as boot problems, viruses, scanners, hardware checking, reconfiguration software in case system viruses destroy it completely and other stuff like that...

I would be greatfull for any information, names, links, programs/software's recommended..

ohhh and it would be great if you guys can list any tools i can use for laptops (screw drivers, pliers, etc)

Many thanks guys,

A:Repair software required

Most hard drive manufacturers have a diagnostics ISO you can download and burn to disc to boot the PC and run the diagnostics.

Memtest86+ is about the best memory test you can get but is not 100%, it can miss minor faults. Running a PC on one stick at a time is a better test.

For the CPU & Memory combined there is Prime95.

For the GPU there is Furmark.

A quick search will find all that I have mentioned above.
Then you need to grasp memory dumps for BSOD analasys, some guides are available on line.

I still have a lot to learn about in depth Malware detection and removal. Looking through the Malware forum will give you some idea of what programs to use but then you may need to find a good book on the subject to learn how to read all the logs.

As far as tools go just a good selection of small hand tools including a set of small screwdrivers and a good quality multi meter.

You should have a selection of spare memory, hard drives (3.5 and 2.5 IDE and SATA) a hard drive USB adapter and a spare PSU. Having a few CPU's and a graphics card can also be usefull.

For boot problems you need the full set of Windows OS's to run repair installs and to fix the MBR. Learning how to repair the MBR using the Command Prompt can be usefull.

And that is just a very brief answer. You will never stop learning as there will always be new stuff to learn, faults you have never seen before, etc, etc.

Hello there,
I am trying to install a webcam on my Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit. I feel i should also mention that I had bought this laptop from a friend a year or so ago and i decided to reformat it to Windows Vista Home Premium Lite (due to the excessive programs i didn't use and it was running really slow) about a month ago. Back to the problem. I load the installation disc and it all installs up until the point of the driver. When it starts to install the driver it encounters an error. It tells me that (for example Microsoft HD-5000 webcam) "Microsoft HD-5000 is not in the required .INF" or something along those lines. This message has popped up for 3 different webcams that I've tried to install. I even Went the extra mile and bought the HD-6000 for notebooks and still doesn't work.
-I've tried going to the manufacturer's website and installing the latest software and still the same problem.
-I've also tried going to the device manager and trying to update the driver. and still the same message.
-I've even tried locating the Driver myself to install it and Same thing.

Someone Please help me install this webcam! I am trying to webcam my girlfriend that is 800 miles away! PLease Someone HELP!!!

A:Driver Software not in the required .INF

Just a quick thought, but are you doing the installation WITHOUT the webcam plugged in? That's how I believe it needs to be done. If the webcam is plugged in while installing, it may explain the problems you are encountering (I'm not certain about this at all as I don't have a webcam, but the procedures are clear on the order of events at least for the HD-6000 which I looked up and there might be a reason for that). See: Microsoft Webcam Basics. If you've been doing it with the webcam attached, detach it and try installing that way and see if it helps.

If not, then you might try Microsoft Support at: though I have no idea if it is available for free or if they charge (I think it depends and where and how and when and what - but I can't get past that screen to figure it out because I don't know the Product ID Number). If it costs, I probably would not pay and would find some other solution but if it's free, then they may well be able to help you.

I hope this helps. If not, post back and we'll do more research to see if we can find a cause and a solution - though to be honest you've already tried pretty much everything I would typically suggest (and trying 3 different webcams with the same error suggests the issue isn't the camera itself) so it may take some time to come up with anything else to attempt. Incidentally, what do you mean by a "Lite" version of Vista - I wasn't aware that such a thing ex... Read more

Hi, I've got Vista and I've had a few computer restarts and one BSOD. I have an assembled PC with an Asus P8B75-M LX PLUS; which is not supported by Windows 10 according to the Asus Website. My chipset is B75 thus. I think that Asus simply don't want to bother with their slightly older products (I have much more than the minimum specs to run Windows 10).

I have installed Windows 10 from scratch on it, it seems to detect and install every drivers it need with no issue; I have no warning in the device manager. If I navigate to the Intel website; there is an "Intel? Chipset Device Software (INF Update Utility)". They said it is generic and preferable to install the one provided by the motherboard manufacturer. In my case the motherboard manufacturer don't want to bother with Windows 10. But I wonder what's this driver for? Is Windows not able to pick everything it needs automatically? Intel is pretty vague about it and I see nowhere what precise device this driver is supposed to handle. Do someone have an answer?

Does anyone know if we are supposed to update "Intel Chipset Sofware Installation Utility" driver on a regular basis?
Now that I have the SP2 CD, I'd like to do a clean install of XP. I noticed that Gateway(my computer) only has the 4.0 version of the "intel sofware utility" but now Intel's website has version 5.0. Even more confusing has a version 6.0.

Intel's website say to refer to your computer makers website, but Gateway always seems to be slow updating drivers.

Should I stick with the 4.0 version? Or should I update to the 5.0 version on Intel's wesite.
A description of "Intel Chipset Sofware Installation Utility": The Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility installs Windows INF files to the target system. These files outline to the operating system how to configure the Intel chipset components in order to ensure that the following features function properly: Core PCI and ISAPNP Services, AGP Support, IDE/ATA33/ATA66/ATA100 Storage Support, SATA Storage Support, USB Support, Identification of Intel Chipset Components in the Device Manager.

A:intel chipset software installation utility

The chipset software is designed to work with the implementation from the motherboard maker, along with the BIOS. Its likely that they adhere to the standard implementation but you do not know that.

So, you update it when you need to, not just because you can, in a nutshell.

Is it failing in some way that you are considering this? Or do you just want to "keep fixing it until it's broken"? (a common event among computer users)

i don't know if such software exists, but... i'm looking for a utility that will monitor for spikes in CPU / RAM usage.

for example, oftentimes when i am using a processor intensive program, such as Canopus Procoder, it works very fast, and sometimes it seems much slower than usual. when it's slow, i usually open the Windows Task Manager to find that, for example, jrun.exe is using a lot of CPU resources, but i think jrun at that time is usually unneccessary-- there isn't to my knowledge any reason to have the java app running (although i do have ColdFusion Developer edition installed), so i shut down jrun.exe manually (knowing that i'm not using ColdFusion at that moment).
i'd like to know when such things happen, as in the worst case scenario it could even perhaps be caused by adware, spyware, or some other CPU hog mucking things up, and i'd like to know about it.

i guess this is a separate question, but what about a utility that can monitor the temperature of critical system components? perhaps an all-in-one that will monitor CPU, RAM, and processor temperature (and anything else one might want to monitor...)?

I just upgraded my acer aspire x1700 from vista home 64bit to win 7 64 bit. When I log on I get a dialog box titled "Required system software not installed". What it's asking for is framework 2.0. When I press OK, the dialog box goes away and everything works ok. I tried to install framework 2.0 but it said the system already had framework 3.5. So I tried to uninstall 3.5 and then load 2.0 but it still said system already had framework? My upgrade method was to run setup from within vista. I know it's best to do a clean install which I've done on by other 2 computers. I just wanted to see an upgrade process. Any ideas, this is anoying as He****

I'm soon going to be assembling a new rig, with an AMD Phenom II x6 1090T CPU, verses the Athlon II x2 4400+ that I now have. Obviously, the chipset driver is different and will have to be upgraded also, but is there anything more that isn't automatically installed by the OS installation or Windows Updates?

A:Required Software/Drivers Upgrade?

Win7 installer is mostly driver-complete with newer arriving quickly via optional Windows Updates when you enable hardware auto-updating: Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware

Afterwards any drivers missing in Device Manager can be imported from the Support Downloads webpage for your model device.

I would not change out any drivers issued by the installer and updated by optional Updates unless performance problems point to that driver.

Can any one help me, which one is the best Software/Utility for total system-backup ( OS, HDD partition, everything)??? Bcoz my child and internet viruses cause my PC always get some problem, then I had to install all the softwares, OS & restore data from my back kills long time.

So pls advice me whih one is the best tool for system snapshot or image or system back-up to DVD or DVDs.

A:What is the best Software/Utility for total system-backup ( OS, HDD partition, )???

Many use Acronis True Image Home or Paragon Drive Backup. But the "best" is the one that has the features you want.

Backing up to another drive, internal or external, is a much better idea than DVD's. DVD's are slow and inconvenient, meaning that you will be less likely to keep backups current, while with extra drives, the backups can be made automatically.

Free Drive Cloners/Imagers:

EaseUs Disk Copy (Copies disks or partitions)
CloneZilla GParted LiveCD (Complete partitioning and drive imaging/restoration tools)
Partition Saving
PCI CloneMaxx
Drive Image XML
copyr.dma (Copies disk with bad sectors for recovery)

Commercial Apps:

O&O DiskImage
Acronis True Image Home
EAZ-FIX Professional and Easy Image
Drive Snapshot
Keriver Image
Avanquest Copy Commander
Paragon Drive Backup
R-Drive Image
Norton Ghost
HDClone Pro or Enterprise
Terabyte Image for Windows
Terabyte Image for DOS (can directly access FAT, FAT32, and NTFS partitions)

The laptop that can connect is xp 32 bit OS. They computer im trying is Vista 32 bit OS. After being on the phone for 2 hours with the tech support we could not locate the reason it could not connect. The Vista system has a fresh install of the OS ( I just custom built it). There was barely any programs on the system that could have prevented acces to the server.

I tried everything from uninstalling and reinstalling (after cleaining out all traces from the registry), to disabling the firewall (Vista Firewall) and/or adding an exception to the program, to preventing startup of programs and services using msconfig. At the end of it all i decided to fall back to Windows XP 64 bit ( I have 64 bit hardware). After a fresh install of XP I still had the same problem. After installing only a few programs such as java and firefox, I tried the program and still no cigar.

One disadvantage of Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) is that it uses Windows Update to update the virus definition files. If you disabled the Windows update for some reasons MSE won?t update anymore.
The MSE Update Utility can be used here to update MSE even if Windows Update is disabled.

A:Microsoft Security Essentials Update Utility

Why in the world are you disabling Windows Update? Just set it to "Never check for updates" if you want to manually do it. But disabling Windows Update altogether is just stupid, honestly. Might as well not even run an antivirus if you turn off your first line of defense.

One of our software providers has instructed us to make some changes to our Win 8 PC's registry to get the software to work properly. They have sent me details of what changes are required:
TYPE: Select Allow Applies to: Select This key and subkeys Click/Check: Full control and Read Click OK on Entry detail screen Click OK on Entries list screen

I know very little about Windows Registry other than not to touch it. These changes seem quite extreme. Can someone tell me what they are basically doing?
The software company is being a little coy. I just want to understand what I am doing.

Any assistance appreciated.

A:Registry edit required to get some software to work.

Hi there

IMO the SOFTWARE providers should do all this in their install setup. The only time you should have to make registry changes should be for an emergency fix and even then they should be able to send you a .reg file which will do it automatically.

I'd be very loathe to purchase software from someone who relies on the END USER to make registry edits -- if you make a mistake you can easily hose up a system.

Hi All,

I need some decent computer backup software, recently I've been using Aoemi, but have had issues with it and decided to leave it.

I am absolutely paranoid with my data, my main concern is personal data, windows and software can always been reinstalled.

I was at first using Windows 10 File History, but I had these issues:
Only does it for current user (Not useful)I was running out of space on my 3TB HDD, I think windows was duplicating many files. When I removed files like C:\users\XX it would re-include them again

Is the Windows 7 backup and restore still 100% supported?, I don't mind using it at all, all my backups go onto a network However I did like how file history backed up changes files every X minutes. This would be quite nice.

I am looking for reliable software which works out of site, and if I accidentally shut-down my PC it will continue on reboot (Aoemi, never did this spent hours backing up data and it sometimes failed for long directories).

What software/solution do people recommended?
I don't mind paying for software up to ?100, but it will need to support 3PCs at least.

Kind regards

Hey folks,

So many devices these days come with a driver on a mini-CD. My laptops (Acer and Toshiba) take forever to access them, then think they're blank and ask to format them.

In Googling this I found a guy who said he fixed this problem by reinstalling Roxio. Said his computer came with it but he'd uninstalled it cause he never used it. That it must "turn on" a feature in W7 or something, cause after he reinstalled it, his computer could read mini's.

When I got both my laptops I wiped all partitions (including the hidden "recovery" one), re-partitioned the way I wanted, and reloaded all drivers and W7 (64 Ultimate). The DVD players in both laptops have a central spindle, so they are designed to read mini-CDs. They DO detect them, but again, think they are blank.

Anyone heard of Roxio or other software being required to read mini's? Thanks much.

PS I have a lot of media software installed but not Roxio. (Nero, ImageBurn, Handbrake, Ashampoo, etc.)

A:Is Media Software Required to Read Mini-CDs?

Windows should be able to read your mini-CDs . You might want to eject the CD and place it in the middle . It will take a few seconds to read the disc due to it size. I never had an issue with mini-CDs being read.

Once the install is complete, you can verify its install by going into the registry at:

Following installation of a the most recent updated version of CA Security Suite ON TWO PC'S (previous version's license expired), I chanced upon 3 processes which had not been there previously (ON BOTH PC'S); all showed the date last modified as being 03/09/2007 within 1 minute of each other. However, they did not show up (or I did not notice them) until 29/09/2007.mdmcls32.execfgmng32.exesvcprs32.exeIf users of CA could check their pc's for these processes and report back as to whether you a) have them and b ) any information you might have on them as searches so far have proved inconclusive (according to some databases mdmcls32.exe and cfgmng32.exe are clean and svcprs32.exe has only been around since 23/09/2007 {Prevx}).Cheers (any further assistance much appreicated)the_binkster

Which Is the Best Free Anti-Virus Software? Other Security Software?

Win7 x64

Which is the best free-for-home-users anti-virus software?

What other free-for-home-users security software do you recommend using in conjunction with Windows 7 x64 these days?

If I'm not mistaken, this version of Windows has a built in Firewall. Does that make Zone Alarm redundant or problematic?

I have tried online shopping but anything I find has either MacAfee products for security & protection or something else, but nothing I found comes without security software and nothing I found comes with Norton Security.  I am trying to find a low-priced notebook/laptop computer either without any security software or with Norton Security.  Is this possible?   (O.S. must be Windows 10).

A:want either NO security software, or pre-installed Norton Security

Security software comes bundled with any computer (these days) based upon the recognized need for such...and the fact that there is a partnership between system manufacturers and security software vendors that facilitates the install of unwanted software on any OEM system.  This is done in spite of the fact that Microsoft provides security software as part of any O/S that is more recent than XP.
Any unwanted software or bloatware which a user may find on any purchased OEM system...can be uninstalled from the system via the mechanism which Windows employs for eliminating such.

This is a bit of a convoluted story but here goes...

I have an old PC (the oldest of several) which in which I want to upgrade 3 PATA HDs for 2 large (500GB) SATA-1 drives.

PC spec = Asus P4 PE, P4 Northwood 533FSB 3.06GHz, 1 GB pc2700 ram, 2 soundcards (I'm a musician), Win XP SP2 etc.

The first thing I did was enable RAID/SATA in BIOS & then install the Promise 376 Fasttrack RAID/SATA driver on all OS partitions (4 in all, spread across the 3 drives).

Now, of course, a get a quick POST message saying that "no RAID/SATA device detected", because I haven't installed them yet. However this message then disappears and my boot manager utility loads as usual (BootIt NG).

Then it occured to me that I hadn't installed either the Intel Application Accelerator or Chipset Software Installation utilities (as listed on the available downloads for P4 PE at Asus site).

So I installed the IAA first on one partition - but when I tried to reboot into this, the "no RAID/SATA" message came up before and after the BootItNG screen and the system rebooted again.

I got it to boot into the partition again & promptly uninstalled the IAA because I thought it was causing me the problem.

Then I installed the Chipset Installation utility.

This time, after rebooting into the "music" partition, many of the music software applications were not sending MIDI to one of the soundcards correctly, and the selected audio drivers had changed (f... Read more

A:Possible problem after Intel® Chipset Software Installation Utility installation ?

both the chipset and the IAA are supposed to be installed FIRST THING after the install of the OS...I suspect that the later day install is what caused all the drivers to go *poof*...if your system is operating OK at this point just go with it, but if/when you do a wipe and clean install remember to install these items the first time you boot into your clean install, reboot, then carry on with installing other items...

Do you want to know what to get with your brand new pc. All my suggestionas are free, and dont contain adware or viruses etc.
First of all, where to get them,
Trusted because it is part of the trusted review website
Security is a must on a new pc. go to when buying the pc dont get any security software, waste of everything, especially mcafee. in my opinion it does nothing. get all the software from comodo.
firewall pro
memory firewall
verification engine
secure email
back up
and registry cleaner
DONT get avscanner (antivirus scanner) it is useless if you have the firewall and antivirus. The anti virus and BO clean i recommend but isnt necessary if you get the firewall because comodo firewall pro has a great scanner built in.

How come the built in Vista backup utility doesn't backup software? Does anyone know of a way to do this, or know of any software that will create an image of my harddrive? I seriously need to reformat my computer and I can't do it without this.

A:Vista Backup Utility Doesnt Backup Software?

Norton ghost or Acronis True Image... the latter is the easier of the two apps IMO.

I currently use Norton Internet Security Suite 2006. I just purchased a new Think Pad and was wondering what the difference is between an "Anti Virus" utility and a "Internet Suite" which includes anti virus, firewall, spam filters, ect...................................
Thanks, John

A:Anti Virus utility "vs" Internet Security Suite

You pretty much named the difference in your post. A "system security suite" is one which bundles all the required tools for complete system protection, like anti-virus, firewall, anti-spyware, file cleaners, registry cleaners, etc.

I have a Windows XP Pro Version 2002 Service Pack 3, Pentium 4, 3.20 GHz, 2 Gig Ram desktop machine. I was browsing several websites and had a popup message to install some program. Without thinking, I accidentally hit yes instead of cancel and now my machine is infected with spyware. When the computer starts, a program called "System Security" pops up that appears to do a system scan and finds 38 trojans and spyware. Since I have never heard of "System Security" before, I am almost positive that I have been infected and that the "System Security" software is in fact part of the malware itself.

I ran HijackThis v2.0.2 after startup and this is the log that resulted. I did not kill any of the processes that I believe to be malware and have not yet run any antispyware software such as Malwarebytes or SuperAntiSpyware. I have physically disconnected my machine from the network.
Please advise on the steps necessary to correct this problem. Thank you and happy new year! Hopefully yours is off to a better start than mine.

I was working on a friend's PC last week and came across a piece of software called PC MightMax. For a small usage fee US$7 (for a week) it promises to fix the hundreds of problems it claims to have found on the PC. I cannot find any evaluation of this software. Google just gives me many, many entries where the PC Mightymax software is promoted by the owners. I have never come acrosss such a situation before. Can anyone comment on experiences with PC Mightymax. ie what does it find?, how does it compare with Norton, Spybot & Ad aware.

A:"Useful?" PC Utility Software

I would be real careful with something that doesn't have a reputation. (either good or bad) Even if I had $364 for a year of promises, I'd come here to this forum, with my PC problems, and let these folks help me fix it for free. And there are many, many freeware programs that when used correctly, can prevent and/or fix just about anything out there. Save your money for something important. Like a new video card or sound system.

Hey all,

I have sorta a fast laptop but Sony/Microsoft insists on installing tons of bloatware into new machines that it takes hours to uninstall I did most of the uninstalling and researching but since I'm completely new to Windows 7 I'd thought no question is a stupid question since I always used 98/Xp and I'm moving more into a realm I do not know but trying to at the moment... So here is my question.

I have the following that I'm wondering if I can uninstall without hurting windows 7 or how it operates as i do not build programs I do not see the use for this. please be aware this is Windows 7 Ultimate i have..

Microsoft Visual C++ 2008
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005
A Couple of more of those...

Microsoft SQL Server 2005
Microsoft SQL Server 2008
Microsoft SQL VSS

PlayReady PCTuneRuntime amd64

and a couple of MSXML SP2

Which of theses can i uninstall without hurting the computer...cause this bloatware is gosh XD

Thanks All!
Take Care~

A:Unneeded bloatware what is required and not required.

Uninstall items 1-by-1. Re-boot. Test apps.

If problem ensues, use Windows System Restore to get you back to pre-uninstall -
START | type rstrui

I have been looking for free security software for Windows Home Server v.1 for some time. I have tried AVG, Avira, Bittorrent, and many others regarding firewalls and antivirus programs. The only antivirus program I can seem to find is Clamwin. And I have not been able to find any firewalls besides the one that comes with windows. I would like to be able to download all the necessary security software for free. Is their such software? And what software do I need to make my system secure?

Hello all,

I need to have a firewall that is much better than what I have now. What I have is the Trend Micro Internet Security and it's driving me nuts! It has slowed my computer way down and it makes everything that I try to do have an annoying delay with it. I've had it.

Is the free download of Zone Alarm any good? What should I look for in a program to help protect my computer which is on a cable modem?

I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks!

My Norton protection expired so I downloaded the AT&T tools. I had mail protection but no firewall, anti-virus, or anti-spyware. It said they weren't installed. When I clicked on install it sent me right back to where I was when I first installed the whole pack! This occured several times. Frustrated, I attempted to just download the pack again but the same thing occurred so I downloaded the trial version of AVG.
When I attempted to contact AT&T for help I had to go through the usual long, drug out steps to send an e-mail, only to find there was no selection for my particular situation when I got to the end. AAARRRGGGHHHH!
Does anybody know anything about their software? Is it even worth going through the aggravation to get it to work right?

A:AT&T Security Software

I wouldn't waste my time with them or with AVG to be honest. Get Avast! AV protection.
