Installing a scsi hard drive on an asus a7n8x deluxe board

Q: Installing a scsi hard drive on an asus a7n8x deluxe board

Hello all. This is my first post here. I Bought a scsi hard drive.

Maxtor 18GB SCSI Hard Drive
Formatted capacity: 18.4GB
Interface: Ultra160 Wide LVD SCSI-3, 80-pin (80 to 68-pin SCA adapter included)
Rotational speed: 10,000 RPM
Average seek time: 4.7 ms
Cache: 8MB

I have the ASUS a7n8x deluxe mother board. What pci scsi adaptor card do I get to run the hard drive? What cable do I need?

This is my first time using a scsi drive. I did a search on newegg and saw a range from $22 - $400+. Please educate me in the ways!

A: Installing a scsi hard drive on an asus a7n8x deluxe board

Anything from Adaptec is perfect, but not always the cheapest.
It's what I use on no less than 3 of my PCs.
Brandnew Adaptec ASC-39160 Dual Channel Ultra160 SCSI Controller, $139.-
Brandnew bulk LSI Logic LSIU160 single channel Ultra160 all purpose controller $35.-

They have a whole collection of others, as well as loads of information there.
You could try and pick up a used card on Ebay as well.

You will also need a 68-pin internal flatcable with a terminator.
Look around on that website.

Hi. I know there has been some discussion about this before, but I think I'm in some kind of in-between status with this installation:

My motherboard is an Asus A7N8X Deluxe.
I already have 3 IDE HDD's hooked up and 2
IDE CD/DVD drives (w/no issues).

I am now trying to add a Samsung 1 TB SATA
(the jumper is correctly set on mobo), but the boot
sequence stops at this line:

Sil 3112A SATA RAID Controller Bios Version 4.1.50
Copyright (c)1997-2002 Silicon Image, Inc.
Primary Channel: Samsung HD103SJ
Secondary Channel: Drive Not Found

I cannot see the Samsung 1 TB SATA drive in
my Bios. My OS (XP) is installed on another drive (IDE drive) and operates fine when the SATA 1TB drive is unhooked.

What should I do next?

I'm trying to get audio output from the back jacks of the A7N8X deluxe board, I get nothing out of any of the jacks. I'm using 2 generic speakers, that I know work, because I get audio if I plug them into the front headphone jack that I connected to the motherboard. Can anyone help?

A:audio probs with new A7N8X Deluxe Asus board

Asus audio

As soon as you removed the jumper to put audio to your front panel you unhook the back panel audio. It only works on front or back. I had same problem. There are 2 jumpers one goes on the first 2 pins , then skip a row and put the second one on the 3rd row , this is right and left audio. Look in book for L & bline and R and b-line and jumper this back the way it came and you will have audio.

i recently installed an SPDIF module and connected it to the correct header (module made specifically for this board. my device manage and applications don't see it. ASUS tech support suggested:
"Once the connection is in place, you will need to uninstall and then
reinstall the onboard AUDIO drivers. The drivers for your SPDIF will then
be loaded and the port activated. Thanks."

in add/remove I have entries for;
Nvidia display driver
Nvidia Nforce drivers
Nvidia Nforce utilities
Nvidia WDM drivers
Nvidia windows 200/xp Nforce drivers

I understood the Nforce drivers were unified and not too excited about uninstalling all the display and audio drivers, as I have seen some reports about difficulty reinstalliing after SP2 which I have installed.

any suggestions appreciated. the module is used for digital input from my son's home recording efforts.dave

A:Spdif module added to asus A7N8X deluxe board

You should be able to uninstall just the audio drivers via the device manager. Click start, settings, control panel. Double click system. Select the hardware tab and then click on device manager. Scroll down to the audio device, right click andd uninstall. Save out and reboot. windows should refind your audio device and reinstall the drivers.

I have been reading some old threads looking for answers to my problem. I am trying to install 2 200GB WD Sata HD's on a Asus a7n8x-e MoBo. I have set up the raid array in the bios. I have a floppy with the drivers copied, boot to windows set up. Hit f6 when asked, install drivers from floppy when asked, then the set up continues. It stops dead when at the bottom of screen says "setting up windows". Nothing further happens. Does anyone know what else I need to do, or if I am doing anything wrong?

Hi is your system overclocked in any way? I suggest loading the failsafe or optimized settings in the BIOS. Also check your install cd for grease/finger prints. I might have heard about problems with raid on this board but I can't recall; I'll search the net a bit.

My first post, so be gentle.

I'm having problems with my computer and it seems to be stemming from the fact that my motherboard (Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe) Doesn't like talking to you my SATA harddrive. Here is my story:

I was attempting to format my harddrive to get a clean start and I loaded my window's setup disk into my computer, set the bios to boot from CD and began the process. However after the install program had loaded it said it could not find any harddrive on my system. I left the install program and returned to windows and started searching the internet for help.

After looking for a while I found that I needed to load the SATA support files (drivers, txtsetup.oem, si3112.sys etc.) onto a floppy and press f6 at the beginning of the windows setup so that it could load the necessary drivers to see my drive. I did so and it found my drive, huzzah.

However after that I got error messages saying that it could not copy the drivers to the new harddrive. I went ahead with installation anyway (mistake) and to my dismay found that it apparently never loaded any support for my harddrive. It just loaded to a 0x0000007b error.

Anyway so I went back to the internet (other people have had similar problems) and found that I might have old drivers. I formated my disc and loaded up the new drivers. How when I tell the windows text setup program to read my disk I get:

File txtsetup.oem caused an unexpected error (32768) at line 1742 in d:\xpsp1\base\boot... Read more

Try downloading another copy of this file. It could be either the download was corrupted or the files from where you got them were bad to begin with. A good option would be to seek out a new source for the drivers and download them form there.

Hello, I have an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe motherboard with an Athlon XP 2100+ and I would like to know what would be the best hard drives to purchase for this motherboard. Any ideas?

A:Optimal Hard Drives for ASUS A7N8X Deluxe

You can't get optimal hard drives for a board, but you can get optimal hard drives for your needs.

It all depends on you. This board can have a total of 4 IDE devices, so if you allready have a DVD & CD-RW, you have two places left for HDDs.

Since you have the deluxe version, you can add SATA drives, in normal mode or in RAID setups ( up to two drives I believe ).

If you're not going for SATA, I believe many people like the WD drives with 8mb Cache. Or Seagate if you're into a silent machine.

As for SATA drives, I can't really say since I haven't used any. You can always get normal IDE drives & use a SATA-to-IDE converter.

SATA is supposed to bring the transfer speeds up to 150mb/s, much better then ATA133 but since the SATA chip is connected to the PCI bus on the board, you'll still be limited the PCI's 133mb/s transfer speed ( in other words, you won't be getting the maximum of your SATA drives ).

Well, I have had this computer for 2-4 weeks and I have had it freeze on me about 4 weeks and funcation very very slow

ASUS nForce2 Ultra 400 A7N8X-E Deluxe
with 120hd ata winxp

I am thinking it might be my HDD because there were quite a few times when I would hear something click as if my floppy drive was being accessed initially or something and the computer would start lagging and the HDD would be accessing like crazy then my computer would just freeze right where it was at on the screen. No mouse response, keyboard, ctrl+alt+del, nothing. Also the HDD light would be on steady after the freeze; however, I am not sure if it was being accessed. I don't remember.

What do you all think? Could a hard drive going bad cause the machine to freeze when a lot of applications are opened? One more thing to note about the HDD. When I am browsing through folders on my computer in the windows explorer every now and then when I request a folder to be opened it will take a substantial amount of time to load in which time my HDD is being accessed profusely.

I hope this information helps.

Please, if anyone has an idea as to what the culprit may be, let me know.

A:ASUS nForce2 Ultra 400 A7N8X-E Deluxe running very very slow after installing winXP

All the problems you are experiencing can be caused by the hd being faulty.
You may also want to check the memory is ok, is the pagefile set at user defined or let computer define ?
Have you got plenty of space left on the hd that can be used for the pagefile (virtual memory)

The revision number can be found between the 2nd & 3rd PCI slot.

This board is very picky when it comes to Ram. Although you can get it to work with some generic Ram, it's not advised.

The nForce2 chipset performs best when the Ram is running in sync with the FSB. If your FSB is set to 166, in the BIOS set the "Memory Frequency" to [Sync]. Make sure the Ram is capable of running at that speed, of course. You do not want to run PC2100 Ram at 166mhz. This applies whether the board is running in Dual-Channel or Single-Channel mode.

Performance is also much better when running the Ram with very aggressive timings. You can get some no-name PC2700 Ram & run it at PC2100 speeds & get better performance ( & eventually better stability ).

Running the Ram in Dual-Channel will only bring a small performance extra due to the aging K7 architecture, but if you can get extra performance for free, why not ?

If you happen to use it in Dual-Channel mode, setting the "T-Ras" or "Row-Active Delay" value to high values such as 9/11 will result in better performance ( this only works in Dual-Channel mode ).

In order to get the best performance in Dual-Channel, it i... Read more

I have posted this problem before and have not gotten any answers that help. I am using win98se and this board is compatable with this OS. When installing the drivers for this board , the manual say to create a directory named win98src and transfer the windows files to it .Then, when installing the drivers, the program will ask for the windows setup cd. I am then supposed to point to the win98src file to continue installing the drivers. I have done this and cannot get past this point. I keep getting the message I have elected to cancel the setup. Without these drivers I have no pci bus mastering, no ethernet connection. I have not found any way around this problem. I don't want to purchase win 2000 or xp, although that would sove the problem. I can't afford it. anyone got an answer or workaround? willlya29

probably not. first thing I'd do is check all connections, reset the BIOS, try just 1 stick of ram at a time, only have the HD and video card installed. After that I'd unbolt the MB and set it on cardboard to make sure there isn't a ground problem.

512mb 3200 ram (considering Crucial), going with a single stick, because I plan on adding another 512mb when I finally get XP.
Athlon XP 3000+ 400FSB

Ok, here's my ?s. I read that there are some problems running win98SE on the new nVidia chipset. I won't have the money for XP after I buy the board, cpu, and memory (child support is a drag). Can anyone confirm this?

And would I have any problems running my old gear with this board? Just curious. I plan on transferring a bunch of videos to a DVD burner I bought, and thought this would be a pretty cost effective upgrade.

But I'm seeing advertisements with the Barton core, Thoroughbred core, etc.....what's the difference? Will it make a difference with this board? Is there just a difference in the core after a certain model? (like between the 1700, and the 3000+?)

Any help would be appreciated. i've been skimming the forums for about an hour now, and see that you guys really know yer stuff.

A:Asus A7N8X-deluxe ?s

Windows 98 should work with that board. It is supported & there are drivers for all the integrated components of the board for Windows 98. I don't have any hands down expericence with that OS/mainboard combination so this is all in theory.

What other harwdare are you planning on porting over to the new mainboard ? You shouldn't have any troubles with the VGA card & the HDD. You won't need to use your old sound card & the PC2100 will be useless if you ever get a CPU with an FSB above 133 ( 266 ).

The Thoroughbred & Barton are names for the different cores of AthlonXP CPUs. The main difference between both is the size of the Level 2 Cache. Thoroughbreds have 256kb, Bartons have 512kb. There are also Thoroughbreds with 133 ( 266 ) FSBs & 166 ( 333 ). Bartons are available with 166 ( 333 ) & 200 ( 400 ) FSBs.

Make sure to check out this thread ( Identifying AMD processors ) to know what speed the chip is running at & what FSB it uses. If you get a CPU with a 166 ( 333 ) FSB, you will need PC2700 Ram, if you get one with a faster FSB such as 200 ( 400 ) you will need PC3200.

Anything else you'd like to know about the board ?

PS. Welcome to TechSpot. Hope you enjoy your stay.

Ok, how do I start? I am having a problem with my new mobo and my cisco aironet 350 wireless lan card. In my old system, a via kt266a based system, the pcmcia adapter and 350 card shared an IRQ with no problems. On the new system I built, with a Asus A7N8X deluxe, I keep getting an IRQ conflict on the 350 card. I disabled all the on board devices(most of them anyway) and have tried putting the pcmcia adapter in all 5 pci slots and still get the conflict. Device manager shows both devices using same IRQ or at least wanting to. I tried putting the same adapter and 350 card in another pc and it works fine on that system. I am using Windows XP Pro. I did notice after installing the setup in the other pc( also a Via KT266a mobo) it has the 350 card using the same IRQ but as an isa device. The adapter shows up as a PCI device. I use a wireless ISP so this is a pretty important problem. In fact I logged on the internet with the card and adapter I am trying to put into my new system. The following is a list of components on new system. Any help would be great and thanks.

Okay, so here's the setup:

Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe
Athlon XP 2800+ w/ Vantec AeroFlow
2x 512MB DDR RAM (kingston)
160GB Samsung SATA HD
Ever 400W PSU
GeForce 4 Ti4200 (asus)

I can't get the computer to turn on. I followed all instrucitons on connecting all those wires (those wires being the ones for the switches and LEDs) to the proper plugs on the motherboard. I double checked with the motherboard manual and the writing right below it. I reversed everything several times to make sure the positives and negatives and grounds were all properly set up.

When the PSU goes on, the motherboard's green light goes on, indicating that the mobo has power. However, when pushing the switch to turn it on, it doesn't turn on!!!

All jumpers are properly set, the jumper to reset the CMOS is not in that position (i.e. its in normal operating position), and all other jumpers were set to default.

I did more in depth search, removed the switches, leds, etc, from the front, and analyzed it. Then, I cut the wires and made a manual connection (thinking something was wrong with the switch) and still no go!

I even measured the two pins that stick out where the power switch was supposed to go and it read 12.0v!

Why won't my computer turn on!?

Many, many, no... several thanks to anyone who can help asap.

This is the first time I've had this problem and was unable to fix it. My rear speakers do not work. However, they do work in Audio playback situations, or in the nvmixer testing software. But windows sounds, and even my games they do not function. Is this possibly a problem with Direct sound? I'm lost here. I've uninstalled nvidia drivers several times, and even updated the sound drivers to whatever is on the website and still no go. Usually I just turn on Quad speakers and it works. Not this time.

Just bought new M/board as above. Try to install XP and as soon as main install starts it keeps telling me "can't find file etc". Various files, mostly DLLs.
Normally starts around 53%. When you use "Skip file" option it throws up another one until you get the dreaded blue screen telling you it's stopped Windows. Tried another version of XP, different CD-Rom. Still same. Been told it could be a setting in the BIOS. Something to do with memory ratio??

Any ideas please!!

I have seen this in a problem similar to mine. I have an ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe mobo and an Athlon 2800 2 gig chip that is running at 1200 right now. Windows registers it as the Athlon M10 and bios has no recognition now. It was originally seen as a mobile Athlon 600-800 mhz. I have updated my ASUS bios to 1013 and the chip is running at 200 bus speed. I tried the chip at 300 and the system would not boot. SiSoft Sandra seems to state the board supports up to 3 gig chips. Is there anything I have not done, besides overclocking, that is preventing my cpu's full potential from rearing it's head? Anyone have the answer?

Hello everybody,
I have a big problem with my computer.
The mother board is an A7N8X-E Deluxe, and I have 1 HD which is an Hitachi Deskstar 250Go SATA.
I bought it in november, and it worked fine (with XP) till last wednesday.
I had several blue screens at the start of windows, and after that the computer didn't want to reboot. It stopped on the message :
"Press Ctrl+S or F4 to enter RAID Utility" and didn't want to go further.
After a few visits on several threads, I decided to flash the Bios Version of my SiI 3112A, which was at the version 4.2.27 . I installed the version 4.2.47 .
Now I can pass this stage, and try to reinstall XP.
I boot on the XP Cd, and Press F6 when asked (to install Raid drivers). I have a floppy where I have the good drivers (version V1.0.0.40), and I choose the Raid for XP.
Later, Xp asks me if I want to repair it or make a new install. I can choose one or the other, but after that I have the message :
No hard drive detected. Press F3 to quit Windows Installation.
I don't know what can I do now.
Is the hard drive dead ? (it doesn't make any 'tic tac')
Is it the mother board ? Is therean option in the Bios ?
I wait for your answers...
Thanks in advance

Same problem on the wednsday you are talking about

what a coinsident my wifes computer had the same problem ,on the same day with the same mother board with the same sata driver!!!!
I had to flash the bios to get as far to use the floppydisk drive so I can install windows new.To cut the story short because you have the same story I had to give the hard dist a low level format AND (Dont forget before you try to install windows because if you do that means 2x low format )to fdisk the main boot record TEN TIMES MINIMUM. After that you shouldn'd have no more problems if you use a GOOD firewall AND a GOOD antivirus program. The funny thing about this virus is it seams to effect only asus nvidea boards as far to my knolledge goes.Have fun with the low level format because with my wifes harddisk was 80 gig and it took 8 hours

So I've got a a7n8x deluxe and i really dont feel like im fully optimizing this great mobo.
ive got 2 256 ddr sticks in it with an AMD 1.2gig processor and a Geforce 4 TI 4200 with agp 8x video card, im really lagging behind when it comes to playing games and even lately running programs gets slower and slower, i havent upgraded a thing on this baby for years now and i think its dire time for me to upgrade.
Anyway my question is, what would be the cheapest and easiest upgrades I could get/you would suggest i get to help bring me back to my gaming glory days.

-P.S- I'd especially love to be able to play battlefield 2 on high settings flawlessly.

A:ASUS A7N8X Deluxe - Need some help guys.

If running programs seems slower, maybe you have too much spyware etc running? As for playing BF2 (and other games) flawlessly, I would recommend selling ur processor, video card, RAM and motherboard and getting a brand new mobo like the ASUS P5B, an NVIDIA GeForce 7600GT, a minimum of 1GB of DDR2 RAM (2GB dual-channel kit recommended), and a Core 2 Duo E6300 or E4300. Shouldn't cost you more than $800. And that PC would be more than capable of playing BF2 maxed out quite smoothly. Here are some links:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6300 - Retail

FSP Group (Fortron Source) AX450-PN, 12cm FAN, version 2.2, 2 SATA, PCI Express, 450W Power Supply - Retail
(for that new video card)

EVGA 256-P2-N615-TX GeForce 7600GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail

ASUS P5B LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

OCZ S.O.E 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2SOE8002GK - Retail
Grand Total= $610 after rebates
I hope it helped!

P.S.-> I assume you will be using the HDD, keyboard etc. from your old PC so I haven't linked you to any. But if you want, I can do that too.

I have ASUS a7n8x deluxe MB, WinXP Pro.

I have all of a sudden lost USB. None of the ports work. I am using the ports on the I/O panel, and the internal header for a Flash memory reader. All worked fine, until the other day. I did not mess with any settings in BIOS or Device manager. Device manager shows USB devices to be working properly. However my mouse and media reader will not work. I've tried reinstalling the drivers, but with no results. Any ideas? Any help is appreciated.

Well I just purachased a crapload of new stuff to build myself a brand new kick me in the *** system. But, I have a problem; It won't F*n power on. This is a list of everything I bought:

XaserIII v1000a Black Case /w window
480W+ Silent Purepower from Thermaltake
SubzeroG4 Theroelectric from Thermaltake
Asus A7N8X Deluxe
^ Problem lies somewhere in this combination I think

AMD XP Anthlon 3200 /w Barton Core
3 Sticks of Corsair XMS 512Mb pc3200 400Mhz CL2 DDR
BFG Asylum fx5900 Ultra
Maxtor 160Gb 9mb Cache
OEM 52x24x52 CDRW
OEM 3.5" floppy
Glowie Round Cables
Stupid Cold Cathode Light

The Asus A7N8X Deluxe has a little green LED on it to let you know it's getting power, and that is on so I know I get power. I double and triple and quadrupla checked all the case LED's to make sure they were in the right spot on the motherboard and it looks like I have that all good.
The SubzeroG4 has it's own power connecter, and no light comes on at all on it. I've even tried bypassing the whole PCI connector thingy and plugging the CPU fan directly into the motherboard rather then the weird little system of connector it has but, that didn't change anything.
I don't know what else to check =(
Someone help please

I am trying to work out the kinks with this new mobo.

It is up a working and I am useing it now to post this.

Several issues:

The first issue is that the CPU is defined as being much slower than what I actually have.

I have an Athlon 2800+ and the pc properties is showing me at XP 2200+ 1.66 gig

Second issue: What should be labeled as "Disk C", is labeled as "local disk (I)"

I only have one IDE hard drive in the pc apart fron the two optical drives and they are correctly found and labled as is the floppy.

The date on the bios is later than anything being offered on the Asus site so I am thinking T have the latest bios

Its just out of the box plugged every thing, and when its attached to the mains the green led on the board lights up, but when i push the power switch i get a flicker of the pwer led on the outside of the box ... then nothing. No fans going round, power or psu.

Ive tryed reversing the pwr connector on the board
but still nothing, and i cant find anything else in the manual that may deal with power to the board. ( apart from the main power to the board witch is deffinatly round the right way )

but to be honest im not that hot on this and if the board was faulty im not shure how i could tell.

but has anyone else had or heard of similer issues?

or knows of ways i could test to see if the board is faulty.

Hi there,

I'm basically a novice to building a PC, but I thought I'd have a go.
I've got an Athlon 2800 XP Barton core processor and the A7N8X Deluxe motherboard.
The mobo was bought cheap off ebay and sold as "new bios chip installed - untested"
and I thought I'd take a gamble at £35. I've installed the processor and a 1Gb of memory
and plumbed in the 9800Pro graphics card and when I fire it up - there is a long very high piteched
beep. It says in the instructions that this mean that the processor is too hot and it's in a safe mode.

I ran Sandra 2004 on it and it warned me that the CPU was running at 1300mhz (about half) but also
that the CPU fan was down to 900rpm. It further informed me that the mobo voltage was too high.

Does this seem to be the root of the problem and can I change it in the Bios? I'm not sure about changing bios
settings - as I say - I'm a novice, but can anyone advise where to find out the information for this or indeed
what the solution is.

Thanks for your time

I have A7N8X-E Deluxe rev. 2.x.x, and I'm having problem. On
ASUS Probe voltage for 12V is more often then not over 13V. Then when
it reach 13.56 (High demanding games) computer shuts down. Funny thing
is that when I open the computer case and use it like that, voltage is
approximately lower for 0.20-0.30 V and computer is not shutting down
by itself. My first thought was that it is temperature related, but it
is not (55*C-62*C with closed case).
Also I tried changing Graphic card ASUS V9570 TD 256Mb (it had some
problems of it's own) with NVIDIA GeForce MX 440 AGP 8X (it is only
temporary solution), and situation is quite similar: 12V voltage is up
to 13.4V but computer is not shutting down by it self.
Does anybody knows what is normal 12V voltage, and is this something to
be concerned with?

Go to input your mobo model into the model search, and then in the catagory search click drivers. When the drivers page appears click on the drivers tab. Make sure you only download drivers that are Windows 98 compatible.

I'm about to massively upgrade my system using the ASUS A7N8X-E. I have three slots for RAM modules. If I want to use my memory in Dual Channel mode (and I do), can I start off with twin sticks of 256Mb and then, later on, add a third module of 512MB without the board freaking out because the DIMM's are not the same size, or am I locking myself into HAVING to put another 256Mb module in that third slot?

I'd LIKE to be able to just drop in TWO 512Mb sticks, but I'm choking on the cost. If I could get away with dropping in two 256MB sticks for now, knowing that some time in the future I could drop a 512Mb stick and shuffle the other two, I'd be happy with that option.

Or conversely, would it better to sacrifice dual channel for now, drop in ONE 512MB module and then go dual channel sometime later, when I can put out the extra cash for a second 512Mb module?

All advice appreciated. I'm really on the fence about this.

A:DDR400, Three Slots, ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe

You can mix and match the sizes in the slots as you please. Dual channel is slightly faster

turn ur machine on - and straight away hold down 'home' until the machine posts (this resets the bios) then hit delete and enter the bios settings. move along until the option advance bios settings (i think that whats it called) appears and select that. one of the first options will be CPU FSB or something similar - set this to 133Mhz, hit F10 save and exit - the machine should now boot fine

Sorry, you won't be able to do that. Your motherboard has socket type A, while an Athlon 64 X2 requires an AM2 slot.

It does however support AMD Duron, Athlon and AthlonXP (3000+). Processors from those lines should be fine.

Currently running AMD Athlon XP2600+, 512mb PC2700 DDR ram, 128mb Geforce4 MX440 Video Card, 30gig Maxtor HD, 52x24x52x Pacific Digital CDRW..

After putting everything in, with the exception of the extra goodies that come with the motherboard (Not changing ANY jumper settings, because they didn't say I had to in the instructions, which could be the problem) I start the computer up...everything starts up. Fans, Video Card's Fan, the CPU Heatsink, etc. The monitor stays blank. I tried running it for over a minute, and still nothing. The green light goes on showing that the motherboard has power, and the red light (right below the AGP slot, if it goes on then theres a problem with the video card) doesn't go on, but if I take out the video card, it still doesn't come on..which makes me believe that the AGP slots defected.

I've also tested the video card in my other computer, and it works fine...Hopefully this is a simply fixed problem, and I can get my new motherboard up and running soon...Thanks in advance.

I have an A7N8x Deluxe mobo with XP2400cpu. I would like to know the correct FSB settings, etc, for stable operation.
At present my system reads the cpu as an XP1500 or XP1800, what do I need to do to read it as an XP2400?

Go into the bios, set the cpu external frequency under advanced chip set options to 133, that should do it.

Got a virus, couldn't shake it. Reinstalled XP on a drive that I thought was empty becaus XP install indicated it was 'available'. It was originally formatted by Partition Magic not XP. Lost 6 months work. Purchased a 250g SATA to store recovery of data. Screwing around trying to get XP re-installed on one of the SCSI drives and getting SATA running. In this freaking process, the entire system became flakey, i.e., system hangs on "verifying DMI...". So, I play the plug and unplug game for 3 days. Installing drivers, updated the Bios to 1011 thinking maybe SATA had something to do with it.
Over some time, the scsi's refused to boot. The SCSI bios sees them correctly. Reduced to one scsi drive, known to be bootable. Sata will run ok. Unplug the scsi cable and now the DMI will verify and boot floppies! Removed the scsi controller and then I could boot floppies. Put the controller back in and now the system hangs on "DMI verification".

I reset the BIOS with the jumper/battery trick. System begins to boot and I can enter the BIOS and change the boot sequence and it saves it. Reboot- and the known to be good floppies won't boot, "not a system disk". Removed the SCSI card made sure sata was jumpered off. Turn on the power and the fans go on, but the syste... Read more

A few weeks ago I posted a theard on my main gaming machine and the overclocking problems I had. Well, just recently I purchased a 400W PSU, the system works fine now. Its only been a week and I took the system apart to apply better thermal compound to the CPU, and a few other minor things. I turned the system on, and it only sees my CPU as an XP 1100Mhz, I entered BIOS to my complete suprise to find the settings all still intact. I set them to the normal settings (333FSB/Memory) and rebooted, same issue. Then I cleared the BIOS and rebooted, now it doesn't even post, not even when I push the Insert/Scroll Lock keys. Now I'm in a bind because I have no clue what happened. I made no major system changes at all, no devices added or removed. Help if any can.

Hi All.

I havn't been on here for a while. I hope y'all had a good festive season. All the best for the comming year! And hello and welcome to all new members since my last post.

I got a couple of problems here for you to take a look at if you get the time.

( 1 ) My old trusty HP NX8220 laptop died over Xmas. Extreme over indulgence + a "wee" argument with the wife = Vodka split all over my keyboard whilst switched on. I immediately pulled the power and turned it upsidedown in an effort to prevent the alcohol from soaking down to the MOBO. Alas, I don't think I was quick enough. All I get when I plug the power in is the AC light which goes off after a few seconds. Nothing else. I have stripped the laptop down and there is no visible damage. Every thing looks perfect and there is no smell of burning. Cant really smell the Vodka much either. Somethings obviously died though.
Does anyone have any Ideas as to what the most likely component/s to have sustained damage is/are?

(2) After looking through my collection of old computer parts (I'm not so well off at the moment so cant buy any new parts) I found numerous MOBO's. One of which was an old Intel D865GBF. These boards are fussy when it comes to RAM and could not get it running with a satisfactory amount of RAM for XP (1.5GB). Then I stumbled upon my old ASUS A7N8X Deluxe v2. My first MOBO and probably one of the best ever made in my opinion. So after a good two days finding suitable har... Read more

A:Dead HP NX8220 Laptop & ASUS A7N8X Deluxe 2 MOBO

I doubt the laptop is saveable, as far as the driver, it could be a set of motherboard drivers. and Yes, Windows could be reading it wrong. if you have the disc for the board, or go download the drivers you need, I would just uninstall it, and reinstall.

It should not really affect anything, tho Im sure that would be a waste of space if windows is right.

Problem with Athlon XP 3200+ on ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe motherboard

Hi, I have an ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe motherboard with 512mb of kingston ddr 400 ram. I recently put in an Athlon XP 3200+ Barton 400 FSB and when I try to play any game, for example battle for middle earth or Half life 2, it crashes shortly after i start and it has reset itself a few times as well.
I had a AMD Sempron 2600+ 333 in it and it worked fine.

I checked the ram with microsoft ram checker and it had no errors.
All drivers are up to date, the bios is the latest version and I set the bios to optimal.
The Athlon XP 3200+ Barton is displayed correctly in the bios and when booting.
I even tried changing the cpu setting to 166 instead of 200 so it displayed cpu at 2500+ it did not help though.
The same Athlon XP 3200+ Barton works fine in an Abit AN7 motherboard, with playing games as well.

Could someone help please.
Im thinking of putting the sempron back in.

What you need to acertain is if the mobo works outside the case, what i do in that situ is place the mobo on top of the antistatic bag it came in then plug in the psu and use a pwr switch from an old case. If the mobo works fine like that then u need to check for shorts in the case. Check that the metal spacers align with the holes in the mobo properly and that the heads of the screws dont touch any of the pins on the components.

Hope that helps. Rik.

Recently my power switch seemed to give trouble wont start then does temperamental as hell. Now the system wont start at all.Tried to bypass switch with reset one tried to jumpstart with screwdriver no luck.Used a piece of wire in pins 14 and 15 and psu powers up all pins giving right current.Used an old 350w psu and everything powers up but now no post.Cleared the cmos with jumper pulled out mobo and set up outside case with only memory and graphics card plugged in still same.Antec wont fire up and old psu works but no post screen.I did flash bios a month ago with asus update and the machine has been purring beautifully.Only thing i can think that was different was our lovely South African load shedding that crashed my PC during a game.I then replugged in antec to mobo and placed the wire clip in from behind forcing power on but it wont post or stay on without wire clip.

Why can i jump my Antec to work but it wont power up with switch?
Why no post screen now i know the mobo has something like a crash free bios2?

I am about to build my own PC. It will have a Maxtor Sata hard drive. When you are installing Windows XP Pro, do you have to press F6 and install a third-party driver? I was reading this book, and the guy said to do that. I have never heard about that before. Can you just hit install XP and let it do everything? Thanks.

A:Installing Windows Hard Drive SCSI

Yes you need to hit F6 to install a RAID driver. You will be able to get that driver from the motherboard manufacturers website in most cases. The resulting RAID driver that you get will need to be on a floppy, so if you were planning on not putting a floppy in the computer you were building (like many do), you will have to at least have a floppy during the setup process of Windows. Sorry, theres no magic "hit install XP and let it do everything"

Asus has nothing to do with the drivers they all come from Nvidia, about all Asus might do with them is change the installer slightly so that it includes their name. Also Nvidia declared the NF4 legacy status quite a while ago (shortly after Vista came out), and there will be no more NF4 drivers.

You have a couple of options with that NF4,

1. Use it with the drivers that Windows installed (which come from Nvidia), which are sufficient for everything to work as it should.

2. If you really want something newer than what Windows installs have a look here,

Personally I would just go with option #1, and did with almost the same board as yours (A8N-SLI SE) and it works as well in 7 as it did in Vista.

I just recieved parts for my HTPC build:Asus E35M1-I motherboard (AMD cpu/mobo combo)
Crucial 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500)
Kingston SSDNow V Series 30GB SSD (for OS)
Samsung slimline DVD/CD burner
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Here's the deal, I battled with error messages and install hangs during the whole installation process. I finally narrowed my install troubles to two things. 1) I had to switch the SATA controller for the SSD from IDE to ACHI mode. 2) I had to remove 1 stick of ram because I would get weird error messages (sometimes different each time I rebooted). ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupt was a common one.

Meanwhile I continued the install with only a single 2GB stick in DIMM slot A.
I initially thought the ram issue may be driver related so I waited and installed and updated all drivers and Win updates before troubleshooting the ram issue. After updating the Ram issues still exist and it appears that it's only when two sticks are installed.

I'll outline my troubleshooting steps which helped me come to this conclusion:Windows up and running with all updates current including drivers (NO CURRENT BIOS RELEASE IS AVAILABLE FROM ASUS)
Removed RAM Stick2 from DIMM Slot B; Boots fine
Swapped Stick1 with Stick2 in SlotA; boots fine with Stick2 in SlotA (both sticks good right?)
Installed Stick1 in SlotB (both slots now populated): No boot. (BSOD something about IRQ Equal or less than; basically a hardware error)
Removed both sticks and insert Stick1 in SlotB; ... Read more

i dont expect as many responses here as i will hopefully get on my previous post, but the deal is i'm shopping for a new comp and the combo deal[/UR]
ends in 2 hours.

going on the assumption that i want a 754 PC, does anyone know of any reason to stay away from this board? keep in mind that i am using this system primarily for gaming.

from what i have been able to find, i know this:
-the board is a little outdated
-it is picky when it comes to RAM
-ASUS has replaced it with the K8V-X SE (i dont know the reasons for this)

i consider myself kinda knowledgable about computers (at least i've built every one i've owned) however i'm not 100% familiar with all the specs and details and how one core differers from another. when 2 things seem pretty similar to me, i usually go by price - but because this board is a little old i'm kind of uneasy about making this decision.

so i guess respond if you can think of any reason i shouldnt buy this board tonight (assuming i make the decision to go with a 754 socket computer...if you wanna help with this choice, check the post i put up a few minutes ago)

I have a system as follows:

ASUS A7N8X Deluxe (2.0)
AMD Athlon 2500+
MSI GeForce 5600 video card

The problem I have is this. Every so often, the system will sorta shut down. The monitor loses video signal and it's obvious something has shut down because it stops responding to any keypresses (e.g. it doesn't appear that *just* the video signal was lost). The fans and hard drive are all still spinning and the power light is still on, but I have to restart the system at this point.

Even more annoying is that if I hit the reset button, the system tries to reboot, but I don't get the system POST and the system is in the same state as when is crashed. If I turn off the power completely and let it sit for a few minutes, then it will start up just fine and will run without problem for a while before the cycle begins again.

Oddly enough, it didn't seem to happen quite as often this past week while I had the case cover off, but now it's doing it about every day since I put everything back to gether. So I suspect heat is somehow involved, but I'm not sure how. Asus Probe doesn't seem to indicate any problems with the temperatures.

I've cleaned out the case with compressed air, double checked all connections and made sure the cables are not interfering with airflow in the case, all to no avail.

I am swapping my board(A7N8X-X) with the Asus A7N8X-Deluxe 2.0 this Tuesday from my bro. I really don't have much time or room for trial and error or any downtime so any opinions would be welcomed. What I have in mind is to just do an ASR reinstall on both Windows XP machines after the swap ANDOR just boot them(or just non-deluxe) as Normal. So far my google findings are that I need to install the SATA SI3112 drivers at Windows installation for my machine. Will the ASR process have the F6 option those 3rd party drivers? Should I even bother with those drivers at reinstall since I don't ever plan on having Windows on those controllers? BUT I want to use those SATA controllers for more storage as non RAID in the near future. Good evening!
I have the asus board in my Vista Ultimate system. I had a couple of 500GB sata drives, and wanted to replace one of them with a 1T drive(Western Digital WD10000CSRTL) . When I connected the new drive, the system just hangs at the point where it's listing the drives right before boot. Strange thing is, it gets the model number, but hangs at capacity. It does the same thing even if it's the only sata drive in the system. Does the a7n8x board support drives that large, or do I need to take back the drive? Hello all,

I have an Asus M2A-VM HDMI mainboard and am trying to install my new Geforce 8600 GTS GPU. Up until now I have been using the on-board ATI x1250 graphics via the bundled riser card to output via HDMI. In display settings I showed 2 screens, one for the VGA and one for the HDMI. When I tried to install the Geforce I had a whole bunch of issues....

When I first installed it, I left the on-board graphics set as primary, and windows wouldnt even detect the card. Switching off the HDMI support in the BIOS sorted this, and the next time I booted up, windows saw the card and installed the drivers off the CD.

Next I rebooted and changed the primary GPU in the BIOS to PCIE from on-board VGA. As soon as I saved and exited, the screen when blank. The machine continued to boot into windows (I have a VFD that fires up when windows starts, so I know it was running), but the display remained blank. The only way to fix this was to pull the graphics card and reset the primary GPU back to on-board VGA in the BIOS.

After this I plugged the card back in and let windows start normally. Now when I try and access the display settings, I get a message about the primary display drivers being for a previous version of windows (I am running MCE2005) and that the default display adaptor is disabled. In my displays window, the onboard ATI is now screens 1&3 (which are the only 2 that are selectable) and the geforce is number 2.

No matter what I do, I cant get any display from the Gefo... Read more

Hello Everyone!

Ok, I'm totally frustrated. I have a PC DL Deluxe mother board, in which I was using a 500 gig Sata drive without any issues. I had 3, 150 gig sata hard drives kicking around, so I decided to buy more sata cables to connect them to my computer.

Well, after plugging them in, only one of the 3 extra drives works. Now, I know for sure all of the drives work. And it's some kind of issue with the sata port things on my computer.

When this computer was first built for me, I did have raid and I knew that some drivers had to be downloaded ("RAID" / "PROMISE") (those words stick out in my head) and installed with a 3.5 diskette so the drives would be seen or setup with raid.

Well, since then I've wiped my computer and no longer use RAID. I only want to use these 4 drives as NORMAL hard drives. So, when I connected them all I didn't think I would need to do anything, but I guess I am wrong.

Can someone please help me? I have no clue what to do. I'm totally lost.

A:Asus - PC DL Deluxe - Sata Drive Issues

It sounds like you need to reset your BIOS so that the other SATA drives are enabled. Go into the BIOS setup at boot time by repeatedly tapping "Del" (on my computer anyway) as the computer starts the boot cycle. Under one of the headings (Advanced BIOS Features is mine) you will see the 1st boot device etc. Probably the 3rd and 4th are disabled or set to Network. Just enable. Then save and exit the BIOS.

Hi, i'm not usually this stupid, but i know i am missing something simple but just cant find it.I just set up my new computer. And now i was having a look at the FSB settings, and as it said i could increase/decrease the FSB in small increments i was going to do that. However, it only changes in 100/133/166/200. Does anyone know what it is i have to do to change the FSB in small increments, I was thinkin of overclocking it just to see how high a stable benchmark i cud get

here is the spec:

XP 3000 - running at 166MHz FSB
Kingston 1GB RAM

Thanks for any help

A:the a7n8x-deluxe......FSB

Have you tried the other settings in Bios - There are usually options for Turbo and Aggressive ? On my board if I pick these options I can increase in increments of 1 as desired

Hi Guys,
I have tried everything and still cant manage to get this to work, I have an Athlon XP 3200+ that I have to run at 2800+ because otherwise my computer randomly reboots, I have: Format and reinstalled, Changed to a bigger fan, Tried fan supplied with the cpu as well as an akasa and coolermaster one, applied several types of thermal compound and tested each, reseated cpu, flashed bios... I know 90% says its the board fault, but asus want me to pay £24 p&p to send the board to them for 4 weeks for repair which is a bit ridiculous, wouldn't you agree??

A:A7N8X-E Deluxe

Yeah ridiculous, what exactly are you trying to do? Keep the processor running at a 3200+?

I got my new A7N8X-E Deluxe mother board today, just finished installing it, but I'm not getting any video what so ever.
I'm using an ati radeon 9700 pro, 512mb of ram and an athlon xp 2600+ cpu. I also tried a radeon 9800 pro, just incase, also no video. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong? Thanks.

A:A7N8X-E Deluxe, Help!!

Any beeps? (I'm assuming you have it plugged into the case speaker) Tried reseating the RAM and video card? Also, double-check the jumpers on the motherboard and also try closing the "Reset CMOS" jumper, leaving the machine unplugged for 30 seconds, then moving the jumper back.

Hello I have recently upgraded my processor to an AMD Athlon XP 3200 CPU and my 2 sticks of 512 DDR 333 kept making my computer restart all the time espically when I run a game. But it works fine with my 2200 CPU so I can only run my CPU with 512 RAM

At first I thought it was just because my RAM sticks werent duplicate, but then I used my m8s stick in which was the same as myn and it still restarted ?

I've reformated and used Registry Merchanic etc.

System Specs:

AMD Athlon XP 3200
ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe
Nvidia N-Force 2 Ultra 400
Radeon 9800Pro 128
512 DDR 333
Q-Tec 550WAT PSU
4 System Fans

A:A7N8X-E Deluxe MB RAM Problem

You need PC3200 Ram to run properly with your CPU. Right now you are probaly running the Ram out of sync with the FSB (running them at different speeds) which will make performance decrease terribly or you're actually running the Ram at 200mhz which is quite a bit above its rated speed of 166mhz.

If they're not matched pairs you should run them in single channel to help lower the chances of instability (install them in slots #1 & #2, the ones closest to the CPU).

A:Need More Help On Audio For The A7n8x Deluxe

The SPDIF won't affect the the analog outputs. If you are using the Analog outputs switch over to the SPDIF and turn the encode DD, create center channel, center channel 3Dpan, and creat LFE. You'll loveit in that mode. I don't think the rear speakers work in analog unless the sound source supports it, IE games in 4 channel mode or when in Surround and the center channel won't work at all except in Dolby Surround. SPDIF and DD encode are the way to go with that sound 'card'.

I got a new DVD/VCR player for Christmas and I was wondering if there is anyway to send the signal through my A7N8X Deluxe soundcard and out the 4.1 speakers I have plugged into the Analog connections on the board.

My DVD player has RCA outputs, a coaxial digital audio output, and the digital output.

Anyone who might answer this knows what the inputs/outputs of the A7N8X Deluxe. I have my speakers currently in the speaker and the line in plugs.

Is there a way to do this? I don't have a clue and the manual does not seem to be much help.

I am trying to install new sticks of ram into my A7N8X-Deluxe mobo. I currently have 2x1 gigs of DDR400 OCZ ram, and i also have 1 stick of 512 Kingston DDR 400 value ram. I am trying to figure out in what order i should be placing these sticks. Like which sockets should my 2x1 gigs of OCZ and which socket should my 512 kingston sticks go to? It looks like DIMM 2 and 3 are blue color coded and DIMM 1 is black color coded, but DIMM 1 & 2 are close together while DIMM 3 is further away from both DIMM 1 & 2. I am very confused. I want to use my 2x1 gigs of OCZ DDR 400 ram in dual channel while my 512 Kingston DDR 400 dosen't interfere but is still being used in my PC as additional ram. Any help is much appreciated!

Pic of the Mobo:

I tried calling technical support, but he didn't say much and left my even more confused because all he literally said whenever i asked him a question was, "yes, uh huh". I don't think he was even listening to me.

DON'T mix-match memory - particularly on that motherboard. In general, don't mix-match either.

can anybody please help me. i am building a new system for a friend, i have a bit of experience in this having built 20-30 systems, but am having problems with this one!

straight away i noticed that there was no agp warning light beneath the slot. according to the manual there should be. i wondered if this may somehow break the circuit (i'm no electronics wizard!)

i am not getting anything but an initial click from the board, no sound, no bios, nothing on screen. the onboard power light works and the cpu fan works but that's it. i tried an old pci graphics card but that didn't work either. all parts used work in my tower except for the m/board. i am pretty sure everything is set up as it should be.

the spec is:

A7N8X-E deluxe m/board
550w power supply
agp nvidia graphics card
2x 512mb elixir 400mhz ddr pc3200 mem sticks
amd athlon xp 3200 cpu

has anybody any ideas please?

thank you

A:I need help big time with the A7N8X-Deluxe

if I am reading you correctly you removed the hard drive and put it on another computer and installed windows there? Why on earth would you do that? when windows installs it installs the HAL which is Specific for the hardware on the machine that windows is being installed on. so if the computer you installed windows on isnt the same as the one you moved the hard drive to your gonna have problems.

first, check the cables the one you have may be defective, second how is the hard drive jumpered? if it is a newer hard drive then you might try removng the jumper altogether as long as the IDe cable the hard drive is on has no slave drive attached.

I installed an A7N8X Deluxe in my PC, upon bootup it says that the CPU is being over-clocked, and it boots up in safe mode. When I went into the BIOS it says the speed is at 100 MHz, which seems to be the slowest it'll go.
What am I missing and how do I change it?

I have installed them ram and the computer has booted i was just curious to wether it is a good idea or not? please if anyone can help me it will be greatly appreciated! if you could email me instead it would be a great help! email: [email protected]

ps) i have cpu-z if any details are needed!

A:a7n8x-e deluxe ram installion?

i dont see why not all it is doing is uping your ram and there all pc3200 so its not underclocking them. i would just put them in and if you start to have problems then take them out.
