hey i recently got a compaq presario v6000 from a friend and when i turned it on for the first time i noticed that it made 3 short beeping sounds which i found out that it doesnt have a bios image but anyway the power light a battery light flashes and then reboots but i cant see anything on the screen at all when its powered on. also the fans power on for at least 2 seconds then they turn off. i dont have a hard drive but i need to at least get to the bios so i can reinstall the os using usb drive.
any help would be great and aslo people have been telling me that my motherboard could be warped how would i fix this without buying a new one because i have no money at all for the laptop.
It looks like you may have Bad Ram: Compaq BIOS Beep Codes - BIOS Central.
Computer Does Not Start and Emits an LED or Beep Code Compaq Presario SR5510F Desktop PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English) Or it could be the Video adapter on the motherboard. Try removing one stick of RAM and get to the Bios. You can also download the ISO image for Memtest in my signature burn the image to CD with IMGBurn also in my signature or USB and boot off of the disc and run the tests on each stick of RAM separately.
First off not sure if I'm posting in correct place. I have compaq presario v6000 with windows xp and service pack 3. And basically what its doin is when I turn it on all the lights light up. I can hear the fan run. Nothing is displayed on screen. Then I hear something click a few times, I assume the hard drive. Then it reboots. And it just stays in that cycle.More replies
I was working on a customer's laptop, a Compaq CQ60, that refused to boot into windows and System Recovery disabled all recovery options except for Command Prompt.
On a hunch, after pressing Escape during BIOS boot, I selected HDD Test. The test ran and failed with "Replace Hard Drive." OK.. the laptop sat there for a few minutes and never did anything else, so I tried to get out of that screen. Nothing responded, so I just held the Power button to turn the computer off.
When I pressed Power again to turn the computer back on, the Power and Wireless LEDs comes on, the CD drive is accessed and then the HDD LED lights up for a second and goes out. The screen never comes up nor do the backlights.
I have tried hooking up an external monitor, but that never shows anything either.
I have tried taking the memory out, cleaning the contacts, putting them back in, swapping the modules around, booting with one or the other.... No effect.
I pulled the battery and the CMOS battery, unplugged AC and let it sit for a good half hour. I held the Power button for thirty seconds. Plugged the CMOS battery back in then the AC. Turned it on and still no go.
I cannot figure out WHAT could have happened!? Any other ideas? Thanks...

NOTE: THIS IS A COPY OF MY POST ON THE COMPAQ FORUM...getting desperate.
Hi, i bought a 6150b from a company auction. Everything worked perfect for the longest time. Then last week i went to go turn it on, and all it does is run the CPU fan for a couple seconds, flash the AC LED about 7 - 8 times, and while thats flashing the power and hard drive LED’s stay solidly lit. Then it completely turns off. This all lasts about 3 seconds at the most. That’s what happens when on battery power.
When on AC power, the same thing happens, except it continues doing the cycle over and over again until I unplug it.
I think it might have something to do with the LCD monitor, since it does not even show a slight flicker at all. No color change like it would from when turned off to a black back lit screen when turning on….simply nothing.
I opened her up (no warranty anyways) and checked all the connections for the keyboard, monitor, DVD drive etc....also reseated them as well, with no luck.
Pulled the both RAM modules and reseated them as well, nothing.
Pulled the battery as well, no change. Still cycles the same over and over again while on AC
There are no audible errors codes (real nice HP...), and im lost at this point.
Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.
I think instead of just pulling and replacing the CMOS battery you might purchase a new one and install it. Proceed from there. If you get a screen and it's still has a problem try a new PSU. Jazz
I really don't know that much about computer but i have a compaq presario v6000 and i just brought a new hard disk drive ST9100824AS and i trying to put on windows 7 and its saying no IDE found when i run diagnosis test. When i go to run the windows 7 disk i get to the installing screen and its doesn't find hdd. I need some help. Thanks
My husbands computer has trojans, and all kinds of malicious files, I need a reboot disk and the HP website is no help. Is there any other way to get one? Or any other way to get rid of these viruses?
Its a compaq presario v6000 and has windows xp home.
Thanks for any help I can get with this.
I would suggest contacting HP for the discs.
The following is a link to their website, specifically the recovery discs.
For some computer models, the link to order recovery discs is not available on the product page. For those models, you can order HP recovery discs by clicking the Contact HP link at the top-left of this web page and HP Customer Care will assist you. You must have your product number and serial number to order.Click to expand...
Otherwise for help with removing the viruses and such, I would suggest that you request a moderator to move this thread to the Malware removal section.
I have a Compaq Presario v6000 and it doing not have not power not even a flicker in the screen just plain dead I used it the night before and world fine but today i try to turn it on and nothing. What I can say that the light on the side that u plug it in to the adopter that light come on but it just will not come on for nothing. So can any body can help me with this problem I am having.
does your laptop react on power button pressing? can you see the power led turns on when you press the power button?
Looking for a quick answer, sorry, not for me but a friend of mine.
I've briefly seen their laptop which is a Compaq Presario V6000 widescreen. Above the screen there are two "mic" symbols where the sound comes out of. Also, there are two sockets at the front below the keyboard. One is for headphones and the other presumably for a "mic" input. The confusing thing is that it has the same symbol as for the output speakers mentioned above!
So to use Skype, does this laptop have a built in microphone or not, or is a plug in one required?
I at least know there is no built in webcam so with Skype in mind, what do you suggesy they should buy (and where does it plug in socket wise).
I have a Compaq Presario V6000 notebook. It's recently become cluttered and has slowed down. Instead of spending days clearing out unwanted programs, I'm wanting to format the C drive. There's a recovery partition on my notebook, and the Windows XP Media Center product key sticker is located on the bottom of the notebook.
I'm sorry if this is asked anywhere; I just want to be absolutely sure that Windows XP will be reinstalled when I reformat. I've reformatted an old desktop before, and to my horror Windows XP did not reinstall itself.
ok my laptop was wiped and i cant find my recovery disc i try'd to go to the compaq website to order or download a new one but i've try'd 3 times over the last couple of weeks and when ever i get to the page to choose my model it says oops sorry page not aval at this time. Does anyone know where else i can get one its for an xp pro version i would preffer it if i could down load it
You will not be able to download one, as it has Windows on it and will be by CD only.
Are you sure that yor PC does not have a hidden partition on the hard drive with the recovery files already on it?
Most recent models do, and there is usually a program or keystroke combination to invoke the restoration.
I've just bought a Compaq Presario v6000 with vista - the Wifi connection to my DLINK router if giving me intermittent problems.
The link to the router seems to remain up but i lose my connectivity to the internet. This can happen if I leave the unit idle for a few mins or I hibernate/sleep the unit. The only way I'm able to the re-connect is to shut down and restart the Laptop.
Has anyone seen this before?
See other posts in this forum - seems there is a known hardware problem with the laptops and wireless networks. I am having the same issues with mine. Only mine is out of warranty and dont really want to send it away for repairs.2 more replies
Hey Guys, Problem number 50000 has occured lol
Trying to boot up my Compaq Presario V6000 after not using it for a while
It'll start up for a while then just cut off...
Next time it comes up blue screen with this on it
***STOP: 0x00000005c (0x0000010B,0x00000003,0x00000000,0x0000000)
What on earth does this mean?
How can i fix this?
I've tried rebooting to factory still problems occuring?
Any ideas guys?
1st thing I would try is to re-seat the RAM, pull it out blow it off and put it back in...(make sure there all the way in)
if you get in windows, go to C:/windows/minidumps, copy them here, maybe someone with more experience can look at them for you...
I am looking to upgrade the gaming graphics on my laptop because it simply sucks for gaming. I have a Compaq Presario V6000 (not the greatest laptop i know) and cant afford a new one so i thought i would just upgrade. Unfortunatly i have not got a clue when it comes to the inside of computers so any help would be much appreciated.
It is highly likely that your laptop has imbedded video on the motherboard and it cannot be upgraded. All you can do is max out the SYSTEM RAM and install a larger faster hard drive
hello everyone.i have very little knowledge about laptop hardware and this is why i am posting here.
i have a compaq presario v6000 and it has been running fine for the past couple of years.a while back it started making noises and started heating up,but it never self booted or shutdown by itself.i had planned to get it serviced and clean its fan etc but it got delayed..2 days back, when i tried turning it on, it just wouldn't.i mean i switch on the power,i see the volume and power LEDs turned on but the screen wont appear.
i believe its graphics card has burned up or something. i have dropped it off the repair shop and all that they are doing is just scaring me saying that the graphics card can't be replaced as it is;the entire motherboard has to be changed.and even if the card could be changed,it wouldn't give any guarantee of not burning up again
so guyz here is my question: can the graphics card of a Compaq Presario V6000 notebook be replaced?i donot know which model it is but i guess its the default card that comes with every notebook of the said model.
i would really appreciate a quick response as i need an urgent verdict.i can not afford an entire new motherboard at this time but i need to work on the laptop..
I think the shops advise is most probably correct. I've been unable to confirm this for certain but in general 90% of laptops have the graphics card integrated into the motherboard, so if the graphics have failed then it has to be a new mobo.
The overheating was probably caused by a faulty fan or dust build up. This could also have damaged the CPU. Considering the cost of replacement your best bet would be a new PC.
I have read some reports that the V6000 had known problems with faulty soldering on the graphics chips. So, there is just a slim chance you might be able to find an electronics expert who could check the solderiing but it is micro soldering to say the least.
I am trying to upgrade a Compaq Presario V6000 laptop from 32-bit XP Pro SP3 to 64-bit Windows 8 Pro. This machine has an AMD Turion 64-bit CPU, ample RAM and HDD capacity. I am installing from the System Builder DVD.
Unfortunately the install is failing. After grinding away on the DVD for a very long time, finally I get the following message in a Windows 8-looking graphic:
"There was a problem with a device connected to your PC
"An unexpected I/O error has occurred.
"Error code: 0xc00000e9
"This problem can happen when a removable storage device is removed while it's in use or is failing. Properly connecting any removable storage and restarting your PC may fix this problem.
"Press Enter to try again
"Press F8 for Startup Settings"
There are no removable storage devices connected to the laptop. Neither of the 2 suggestions works, they just result in more grinding in the DVD drive and a return to the same error screen.
I just got through doing a successful install on a Presario V6700, which was also running 32-bit XP Pro SP3 previously. As far as I can tell the main difference between the two machines is that the good one has an Intel CPU and the problem one has an AMD Turion64 CPU. Both CPU's are 64-bit.
Letting XP complete boot-up and running the install DVD from Windows is not an option, since I'm trying to migrate from 32-bit to 64-bit and the OS won't allow it.
The BIOS allows booting from a USB ... Read more

Before the problem started was anything added to or installed on the system?
Try booting to Last Known Good or Safe Mode.
Restart the computer during the boot process repeatedly tap "F8" you should get
the Advanced Options.
Let us know if able to get the system to boot with either option.
I just reformatted a friends Compaq Presario 3000 laptop with win xp pro. Everything was working fine on it until I updated the bios. Now the computer starts to come on and then shuts down after about a second. I have tried draining all the power but get the same result. All ideas welcome. Thank you.

I am fixing a computer for a co-worker. The other day I turned it on for a minute at another location but I noticed it would turn on but the monitor stayed blank so I told myself I'd do more testing at home.
Today I plugged in the ac adapter (which is "aftermarket" and it seems kinda cheap, even says "replacement adapter" but its 18.5v and 3.5amps as the laptop specifies. As soon as I plugged in the charger to the laptop, the charger "popped" and it does not seem to be working.
So I grabbed my universal adapter, set it to 18v (even tried 19 since the laptop takes 19) and it wont turn on. I took out the battery, pressed the power button a few times, put it back in and no luck. So I took out the battery, plugged ONLY the charger in and the charger housing blue light comes on but it wont power on, with or without the battery.
Any ideas? I just hope he doesn't think I broke his laptop X_X haha.
Found the solution just now, it was a recall. Thanks anyway
I've got this laptop and problem is -1. It boots - shows Windows is starting with the logo and the screen goes blank. After that it reboots. It doesn't shuts off. And it's kinda strange, because firts I see logo Q - for Compaq and display then shuts off, then goes up - I see WIndows logo. I can't get into setup. I've checked power adapteer - voltages are OK even though some chinese replacement. I tried without battery - only on DC power and same does it again. Could be this problem with the video? So my laptop's screen is black. I'm using my tv right now with it, it works fine hooked up to a TV. I've tried everything I know of. When the laptop first starts up, It flashes the red compaq screen, then goes black. Flashes the user login screen, then goes black 2 sec later. When I do the fn+f4, the screen flashes back on, everything looks cool, then 5 seconds later it goes black again. It's not just the light, it goes completely off. (Just on the laptop, external monitor works) I've tried restoring back to factory settings, recovery, and I'm not getting anywhere! I've even tried that black screen fix by Prevx. Oh and I also tried turning the laptop off, holding the power button, etc. It has windows 7. CQ61 I think is the model.
I wasn't really sure if this was the right place to post it, so sorry if I'm in the wrong section!

Ok. Trying to fix a friend's computer, and seem to have run into a rather strange snag. Problem: The computer will not boot past the bios screen. Details: When you power on the computer, the compaq logo with intel inside shows up and has the <F1 Setup> and <F10 System Recovery> options listed as well. And this is about as far as the computer gets. After this the whole computer is just locked up, no buttons work on the keyboard no lights come on the keyboard ect ect. I've tried mashing on the F1 key as soon as I power on the computer and I can manage to get it to say *entering setup* but it still freezes after this point. I've already tried eliminating possible sources of problem, all expansion cards removed, HDD and Dvd Rom disconnected, single memory module (256mb ddr 2700), only power, vga, and keyboard connected. Ive also used the jumper on the motherboard to clear the cmos hoping that would solve the problem, to no avail. I've tried using a different stick of memory and different memory slot as well... Tried using both a ps2 and a usb keyboard... Ive even tried pulling out the jumper for the bios password protection (even though it didn't have a password on it, just trying anything I can think of). The installed bios version is 3.1, and that is about all I know about the computer at this point, other than what the website tells me of it. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/... Read more

presario v6000 laptop running windows Vista. My system boots then as soon as vista loads the screen shuts off. Will boot properly into safe mode and works fine. seem to me a possible driver problem, but it was working fine until recently. I haven't done anything to the system that should cause this issue. The video card i'm running is a geforce go6150. proccessor is a turion 64. any help would be much appeciated. thanks.
Try running Startup Repair by pressing F8 just before the Window splash screen first shows up. The first choice on the menu will be "Repair your computer" - select that and let it run.If that doesn't work, then I'd suggest downloading the video driver from the HP website here: http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/suppor...Display=drivers2 more replies
Ever since I switched my operating system from XP to Vista Home Basic on my Compaq Presario V6000 notebook, my machine has been plagued with intermittent screen flickering. It does not go black, and it doesn't seem to matter what application I'm using at the time. Awhile back, I found some information online about disabling a service related to use of an external monitor, and I tried that, but to no avail.
Suspecting that the problem was related to Vista (and hoping it wasn't my hardware), I installed Ubuntu Linux as a dual boot, and sure enough, I experience no flickering in Linux.
Any ideas or suggestions on how I can further troubleshoot or fix this problem?
BTW, I maintain updated AVG free antivirus software and Comodo firewall. I'm pretty confident that I don't have any viruses.

Hi, any help would be greatly appreciated, basically my laptop was working fine last night then the screen just powered down - i presumed this to be hibernation, but it turns out it wont come on at all,
now when i try to start the laptop up, the buttons light up and it goes through the usual motions but ultimately the screen doesnt come on and the comp gives in and tries to boot up again
i am praying it is just hardware and i will find a loose connection, can anyone help i am desperate!! im having the worst luck in my life ever
Try hooking the laptop up to an external monitor. This will help you determine if the screen is shot of if it's something more internal like the video card, for example.
Hi...I have a compaq 5108US, windows xp pro.. recently installed a new hard drive, which worked fine for a few months. now when I try to turn on the computer, all I get is a black screen, with the compaq logo, and an immediate blinking cursor in the upper right hand corner. Tabbing f8 etc does not bring me to the safe mode option screen. I had the same problem a few months ago, of which I ended up having a new hard drive installed and that solved the problem. I wouldnt think a new hard drive would go bad that quick (if this is the problem this time). No beeps.. I also installed a new memory board, and it reads 504 memory ok, 164 memory size error, in addition to the black screen, compaq logo and blinking cursor. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Hi, My Computer a Compaq Presario SR1810NX with Windows XP Home Edition SP2 is having an issue with it wont get past the Compaq Logo Screen, like, I press the power button the PC powers on, Fan Speeds up and then slows down as normal, keyboard lights flash as normal and the Compaq Logo along with the v3.48 and ESC = Boot Menu options appear on screen, the things is that it wont get past this screen, it just sits there at the Compaq screen, the keyboard and mouse dont seem to be interacting with the PC since I press ESC or F10 for boot mode or system recovery but the PC wont answer at all, I've already Disconnected power source unplugged mouse, keyboard all but PC is doing the same thing just sitting at the Compaq Logo Screen, the computer doesnt make any sound at all no beeps or anything, it wont let me access Windows at any time, recent installations well could be that I just installed a Mobile Bandwidth Card just a couple of weeks ago, and also just a few days ago I connected my iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen to the computer and the computer wont recognize it at all, not even charging, I know this might be a virus or malicious software, but my computer has barely connected to the internet in the last weeks (I couldn't pay the Internet and I had to use my friend's Mobile Bandwidth Card I mentioned before) all I did while in Internet with the Mobile Bandwidth was some schoolwork and youtube videos, I need help urgently with this since I have to deliver a very important proyect for scho... Try a power drain.
1. Unplug power cord
2. Hold power button in for 60 seconds or more then let go
3. Plug in power cord
4. turn on the power and try to boot to setup (BIOS)
If it enters the BIOS then you should be able to just press F5 to reset to defaults and then F10 to save and exit. The PC should work now.
However, if after the power drain you still can not get in the BIOS than there is a MAJOR problem which would require some type of repair.
I have a compaq presario. The bios are poop. Does anyone know if there is a way to update the bios with areal manufacturer? Or am I stuck with compaq's bios? It would be really nice if there was a way to find out who makes the bios for them and update it. Any info would be great. Thank you in advance!
You need to get the BIOS from Compaq. While the board maybe MADE by another company, who knows what slight changes to the specs were made.
When you do your next upgrade, build your own and get a real BIOS.

My personal computer and it has stopped working i was having issues with it earlier today not showing a display so i followed the basic steps for troubleshooting ie: checking monitor, trialing different monitors, removing one stick of ram and trialing them separately in different slots and finally reseating the internal components. finally the computer booted with a display the computer booted all the way and allowed me to log in then after about 10 minutes it randomly went black and rebooted with no display.
I have since been to every troubleshooting website available trying resolve this issue.
the computer is a compaq presario
runs windows vista and ubuntu
has 2gb of ram
has a celeron dual core processor running at 1.68GHZ/512K/800/06
has a ms-7525 ver-1.0 mboard
had a graphics card installed until it didnt want to boot with a display on that
grapics card is an ASUS N13219
this computer had issues with the display before in that it would change the colour the screen from blue to purple and red when the cable the cable connected to the monitor was moved, i assumed this was a faulty monitor, however this problem reoccurred when it first booted today so it may be the on board graphics card.

I read the posting instructions but it's a little difficult for me to run that program because my computer won't actually display anything. But here's what I can answer:

OS is retail upgrade
Hard Drive has been in use since October 2010, everything else is less than 48 hours old.
I haven't reinstalled the OS

PSU - Corsair GS600 600 W (48A on 12v if that's relevant)
Corsair 8GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM (2x4GB)
Don't know about system manufacturer, they're different parts. The Case is by NZXT and the 1.0 TB HDD is by Seagate.
This is going to be a bit of a long read so I'll start off by giving the short version of all this.
Here's the short version:
I built this PC yesterday and it was working but couldn't 't display the native (1920 x 1080) resolution. I got "Out of Range" error on my monitor when I tried to change it to any other resolution. I installed an nVidia control program and made a custom resolution of 1920 x 1080. About half an hour later, I got a blue screen. Now when I start it up I just get a black screen, no error messages, just a black screen. It isn't just my own monitor, I've tried it with another fully functioning one too.
And more detail here:
It was all working alright when I first set it up but I couldn't get native resolution for my LG W2240 monitor (1920 x 1080) which displaye... Read more
Can you boot into Safe Mode?
Does the system display the Asus splash screen before going to the black screen?
Have you checked to see if the video card has power (the extra power plugs in most cards these days)? Have you checked to make sure the fan is working, and that the video cooler isn't clogged up?
Have you tried another video card? I'd suspect that the video card or it's drivers are your issue. If the system boots into Safe Mode, then I'd suspect the drivers, if it doesn't boot into Safe Mode (so you can see the display) - then I'd have to assume that it's the video card.
See if you can return the video card. If not, then see if you can borrow one from another computer - or buy one that you can return if it's not needed.
Hey guys, I have a Pentium 2 Compaq Presario 233MHz system. I was wondering if ANYONE know's hot to get into this systems BIOS. I have been trying and trying but when I hit F10 at the beginning I just get into the COMPAQ diagnostics and setup, and it says nothing about BIOS. My plans are to overclock it to see how it works, just for hands on experience, if you have any tips on that you could help me out with that also. Thanks for your guys help and I hope someone can help me. email me at [email protected] OR send me an AOL instant message at Daws202 which is my screen name. Thanks people!

There is a pass word to the BIOS and you need to take out the motherboard battery to erase it. Leave it out for 5 secs, unplug the computer and turn it on unpluged to drain all the power out of it. then reinstall the battery and reboot.
You m,ay have to remove some of the perifs CD burner, JS Ect if it dosent work the first time to drain the power out of everything
Yes it sucks.
Does anyone know how to get into the bios on a Compaq presario with a model number of 5340 ?? I have tried pressing delete key.. no affect, tried pressing
F1, F2, and escape, (one at a time) but the bios don't want to open up..
It shows nothing on the screen but the COMPAQ logo when started up. Then goes imediately to the windows 98 logo, then opens up windows 98.. It works ok, but I need to get into the bios to check some settings.

If the previous start up was interupted due to a fpower failure or due to a power failure or because the power or re-set button was pressed or if you arnt sure what caused the problem, choose start windows normally.

i have owned this notebook for a number of years and have a lot of information stored on it that I need. When I press the power button this is what happens:
The power LED comes on,
The HD recieves power and makes a small noise,
The Floppy Drive will act as if it is about to read a disk but does nothing,
The following does not start: Fan, screen, BIOS, DVD-ROM drive.
I do not know the exact specs of the computer, but i know it has extra RAM installed. I have tried starting the computer without the HD, extra RAM, the battery, and the modem. I am running out of options and I really need this computer.
Same Thing happened to me. I had to reinstall my OS again. Try and run Your operating system cd. Say xp cd boot disk.
I have a Compaq Presario that is Just making me Nuts, When you press the power button it comes on but you dont get a splash screen or anything at all the Processor is New and it is running XP Home So I dont see why it is acting like it is in sleep mode.

The YouTube video is corrupt... It doesn't look like the HP support has a Windows 7 video driver for your model laptop. Did the laptop originally come with Vista installed or XP? If you have a Nvidia video chip, you might find a better driver there at the Nvidia support website
I have a Compaq Presario 1685 notebook, and its TFT display has clouded up on me till its all white and nothing is visible on the desktop.
An external monitor works fine on the system (which kinda eliminates the video card) but I beleive something might be up with the screen itself.
The problem occurred previously, and I solved it when I noticed that applying delicate pressur to certain spots behind the screen, cause the display to return as normal..
This doesn't work anymore though.
Another thing is.. when the computer is off for a long time (about a day) it takes longer for the screen to get cloudy white. For example.. the system would boot normally, the red COMPAQ logo would appear, followed by the initialization screens, and the Windows 98 startup screen.. then the desktop would appear.. and a couple minutes after, it would turn white.. boom..
If anyone has any ideas on this.. I"d love to hear 'em... THANX!
It sounds like the laptop display is shot. Contact Compaq to see how much it will cost to replace it.

I erased the bios on a Compaq Presario 5340. Now I need to find a bios for it again. Compaq's site is no help at all.
Does anyone know where I could find one?
(my problem is that it will not boot to the HD. it will only go to the floppy disk with a program called KillDisk on it. i connected the HDs to a different computer and it worked fine without the floppy and booted to the OS. and yes the HD is first for boot order.)

Hello! I'm new here to these forums hoping to find a solution to this problem that has been bugging me for days and keeping me from setting up my computer.
Basically after several years, I am finally dealing with the loss of my Hard-Disk drive that came with my computer. I have bought a new Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ as a replacement, and I am having trouble setting it up. Here are a few Specs for my computer:
Compaq Presario SR1303WM
AMD Sempron 3000+
BIOS Revision 3.11
Mother Board: ASUS A7V8X-LA
It's a bit of an older computer. The HDD that failed me used the old ATA standard, and I am going from that to SATA II (3 Gb/s). My motherboard does have two SATA ports on it, but I don't think the motherboard supports 3 Gb/s transfer rate. Only 1.5 Gb/s. I have an SATA cable that connects directly from the HDD to the MoBo as well as a power converter that I use to connect power to the new HDD. I am using a jumper on the fifth and sixth pins ::[:]: <--- looks like that. The reason I am using a jumper is because I have read by other people that this puts the device into the 1.5 Gb/s mode, although I'm not entirely sure. The Samsung manual my HDD came with says that in order to put the drive into this mode, you must download and use their software from their site, www.samsung.com/hdd which I have tried and failed. When I run Samsung's software, I get the error: "Error reading from drive L: data area: drive not ready (A)bort, (R)etry, (F)ail?"... Read more

My laptop is a Acer aspire 5738z running windows 7 home premium 64 bit and my problem is my laptop will not start. When I turn my laptop on it starts to run like normal: GPU fan starts, Disk drive kicks in, and the LED for the on button is working but nothing on the screen. I've tried too do alt + f10 for a restore, nothing happened. I've also tried to plug it into a monitor and my tv. Before this occurred it had been turned off during boot (don't ask why, I cannot answer that) and I preceded to take it apart(to fix the overheating issue due to acer not putting fan holes on the bottom of the laptop ((thanks Acer -.-)) and I didn't realise something was wrong with it until I reassembled it and tried to turn it on. So I'm not sure whether is corrupt BIOS, a hardware problem, or corrupt MBR (my own personal diagnosis, don't know whether it's right or not). Also I have tried turning the laptop off taking the battery out letting the motherboard discharge then pressing the power button for a minute, leaving it for a minute, putting the charger in then turning it on.
You may need to take it apart again and make sure everything is connected properly. Did you follow steps to keep yourself grounded while working inside the system?
As you add and remove hardware, follow these steps for ESD safety:Shut down and turn off your computer.
Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working. If you do not have an anti-static workbench, desk, or pad, you can use your computer tower/case by finding a metal hold in it, such as a drive bay.
Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.

I have a Compaq Presario 2200 model laptop.
I have an issue where every time by laptop batter discharges the time clock resets. I believe that this is realated to the bios battery. I have taken the laptop appart properly via guide provided on compaq website. This is the maintenance guide with all the spare part numbers listed. However, this laptop is out of warranty.
My problem is that I cannot locate the bios battery anywhere on the board. Could someone with some experience pleae review the diagram for this model and tell me where the battery is?
First of all.
Have you tried to calibrate the battery by BIOS? < This might help a lot of problems.
Have you updated your BIOS ?

Now when i power it up. the screen is blank and doesnt boot up.The power light turns on with the wifi light and hear it booting up for 5 seconds and then dies. Did my computer crash or is this a easy fix by replacing the battery for it. I really need to know whats wrong with my computer cuz i cant keep on using my roommates. I have a Compaq Persario V6000 CTO laptop (Intel Core Duo T2350; 1860 MHz; 2 GB RAM). It came pre-installed with Vista, but I had removed that and installed XP SP2. Now, about a year later, I need to re-install the OS, only this time, when I load my Windows XP CD's and I'm in the "Windows XP Professional Setup," screen, it gives me an error that it is NOT able to detect the hard drive, so the Setup cannot continue. This makes no sense, as the BIOS sees the hard drive, and Windows sees the hard drive. I restored it from the recovery disk, which was Vista, and I do NOT want to keep Vista on the system. Plus, this thing stays in Vista for about 1 minute and then self-rebots. I don't remember it being this much of PITA a year ago, but I'm stuck and want to put XP on this thing like I did before.
Thanks in advance.
The Vista boot loader is on the hard drive. You will have to format the drive before you can reinstall the operating system. If the hard drive is still undetected, replace the drive and install the OS

I have a Compaq Presario Computer with windows XP on it. recently i started getting an error message which says lsass.exe and the computer doesnt go any further after I click on ok which is the only option there. It just goes to a blank black screen. someone mentioned to me that i should try to do a system restore on it through the safe mode, but that doesnt work either becasue same error comes even in safe mode. i have tons of data on this computer and i cannot afford to lose it. i need a way to recover my data. it seems to me that the only option i may have is ot do a system recovery through the cds that i got when i purchased the computer, is that true? someone also mentioned to me that if i have the Operating System CD then i might not have to do anything but just repair. How does this work? I cannot seem to find the O.S cd, where can i get it from? Is it the same as the Windows XP cd? also, this problem has been occuring since a few days now and of course i havent been turning on the computer since there isnt much i can do, so by this problem just being there is it making it worse or not? i just dont have the time right now but does that mean that the problem just sitting there is harming it further? Some people have also told me of how to recover data using Ubuntu or something, how good is that? please help me in this asap. thank you so much
You can use a number of Linux distros to tunnel through the back door of a Windows system for the purpose of rescuing your files but if you have to burn a CD, it may as well be Hirens BootCD which includes MiniXP and once in there, you'll be in familiar territory to find and copy out your data on to memory sticks or an external hard drive.
When you've got it all, then go for the computer manufacturer's recovery disk and it won't matter too mucj if it restores the machine to the day it left the factory. You'll lose any programmes you've installed since then but hopefully, you'll still have the installation disks for those.
Compaq Presario 2210us laptop.
Computer came into shop wasn't keeping correct system time. I figured it was a dead BIOS battery. I took the laptop apart and replaced the battery. Should solve the problem right? Wrong. It keeps the correct time when it is on and booted into windows. If I turn off or restart the machine when it is on AC power it will keep the time thru a reboot or being turned off overnight. The problem is when I either reboot or turn the machine off without being plugged into AC power it looses the correct time. Most of the time it will have the time it was shut off or rebooted as the time.
I tried to repair the W32 time and also tried a third party sync software to sync with a time server. This works, but only if connected to the internet. I'm totally out of ideas and really need some help!
References I found:
1 - http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service/...hreadId=981999
2 - 'I started noticing that my laptop will turn itself off (while on charge) for no reason whatsoever, then the clock on the lower right hand corner started messing up in such a way that I had to sync it with the internet every morning and then when I would turn off my laptop and turn it back up the next morning the time would have stuck at the time I had switched my laptop off the previous night.' from post 30 @ http://184.108.40.206/search?q=cache:...&ct=clnk&gl=ca

When you start the computer, does it start to boot and give you the Compaq logo or is it just a black screen? If the former, then Boot off of the XP CD Or download the Recovery Console ISO. Burn it to CD with IMGBurn and get to the Recovery Console. Here type chkdsk /R and press enter. The Check Disk utility will try and fix any file errors.
You can also download the ISO image for Drive Fitness Test in my signature and burn the image to a CD using IMGBurn and boot off of the newly created CD and run the short and extended tests on the HDD to test the integrity of the drive.
Hi all,I have a Compaq Presario CQ61-310SV notebook that does not want to start ? the screen does not turn on and always remains blank. At startup, when I press power button:Lit only leds for Power, WiFi (orange color) and Touchpad; The fan turns on, but the screen remains blank;Caps Lock and Num Lock keys blink 2 times in a sequence;According to these data, I found that there was an error, indicating to failure of the BIOS. What are you running that is causing it to overheat?
First time poster with a huge problem....
I have a Compaq Presario V 6000 notebook. In the last two weeks it all of a sudden shut the screen off maybe 10 times. I was on it last night and no problems. This morning I went to get on and the power was off, strange I thought. I went to power it on and all the LED turned on for a second, then nothing. This happens every time I push the power button....the LEDs turn on for a second then off. Every now and then the LED's will stay on for 10-15 seconds, but no booting, no fan, nothing else.
I have tried messing with the cord and battery, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with either. I have tried reseatting the memory, did not help.
I After trying to power it up for a good hour, it all of a sudden started for me, so I thought problem solved. After spending about 2 hours on it, it automatically shut down and now will not start again.
Any other ideas?
Last night I called HP tech support and spent about 2 hours on the phone talking with techs in India. After repeating myself numerous times, and having them repeat themselves numerous times I was able to get to the software department. After a few troubleshooting tips (that I had already tried) I was told I was going to be forwarded to the hardware department. I was on hold for about 15 minutes and just about to hang up the phone....when it was answered and I was told they would be sending me a FedEx box and labels to ship the CPU to an HP service center and have it returned to me at no cost. No more questions about the warranty...which it is no longer under or anything else.
I hope this works, I might take back all the bad things I said about HP.

When I power on my Compaq Presario, the screen remains black, the key next to the power button is orange, the Caps Lock key is blinking and a light blinks above the "home, end, num lock keys", in the upper portion of the keyboard. Try re-seating the Ram. If that doesn't help remove the Cmos battery for a few minutes then put it back, it looks like a silver coin and should be visible near the ram.
