Windows Internet Explorer 8 turns white and closes almost immediately after i open it

Q: Windows Internet Explorer 8 turns white and closes almost immediately after i open it

I am so puzzled with this problem I have. I have Windows xp: Service Pack 3, and when I open Windows Internet Explorer 8, It turns white and closes almost immediately after I open it, or i'll open it and it'll turn white and stay like that for almost 10 minutes straight and do nothing. I tried resetting it in control panel, and it didn't help at all. Why doesn't it----referring to my browser;Windows Internet Explorer, work?

A: Windows Internet Explorer 8 turns white and closes almost immediately after i open it

If IE works properly when you start it without add-ons then it's possible that you could have an infection, but try these two MS fixits in this order first -

Fix Internet Explorer issues to make IE fast, safe and stable

Fix Internet Explorer add-on problems when IE hangs or freezes

When i open the Internet Explorer, it will open then immediately close. I was able to pinpoint the problem at my home page (www.google.com). I opened IE again, stopped it quickly from opening the home page and then entered another web page. It worked. Then i went back to the home page and it closed again. So whenever i enter the home page the program will shut itself. I also use Firefox as web browser and it doesnt do the same thing. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi everyone, New to the forum so thanks for the help ahead of time. Upon opening internet explorer it immediately closes and displays nothing. Also Internet options in control panel will not open at all. The windows firewall also tells me "For your security, some settings are controlled by group policy." This computer is not on a network and is a home computer. I was able to work around it by doing some registry work in which I removed the value on the firewall key. So that enabled me to turn the firewall back on. The service for windows firewall is now started with no errors and is set to automatic.

The Internet explorer problem is more important to me at the moment. I know the internet connection is active because firefox works perfectly. I scanned the computer with AVG and it found so many viruses and trojans it was rediculous. I also scanned the computer with webroot spysweeper and it found nothing but when I open IE it stops all sorts of things like drivecleaner for example.

Hi All

I've got to the slitting wrists stage of this problem. I hope someone can help...

I've been getting the blue screen of death recently and upon checking my computer's error logs I found that it was a problem with my Radeon graphics card. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Radeon software but the audio went. I couldn't find the audio driver (long story) so I did a system restore which worked - everything was back to normal. Or so I thought.

Next morning I tried to open IE but upon opening it closed immediately. I've done a bit of research (ON THE INTERNET AT WORK!) and have done a HijackThis log.

It may be a coincidnece but the other day my screensaver changed - it's now a black screen which says Oxigenscr V5.00.0000. Maybe this is a virus. Thank you for your help in advance

Hey
I've tried everything I know how to do (not very much). I've lost the recovery disc so I can't reformat. I have a Gateway tablet pc/laptop thing. I think i've picked up some nasty malware/virus/browser hijacker. When I open IE it would close immediately. Firefox is very unresponsive and my browsers appears to be hijacked. I get the warning that pops up on the task bar over and over saying that it's detected some spyware or malware and I need to click to download the antivirus. I'm in safemode now, I can't even use either browser in normal mode, I still can't use IE in safemode. If I have to log back in on normal mode to save a hijack this log then switch back to safe mode so I can post then i'll do that. I also noted that I couldn't even run the "hijack this" program, it wasn't until I renamed the .exe to something completely unrelated that it would even allow me to open it up.
Idk if my hijack log will be valuable in safemode but here it is, i've already tried looking at other people's threads with similar problems and troubleshooting myself unsuccessfully. I will appreciate anyone's help or helpful advice.

Problem: IE closes immediately, with the pop-up that says, "Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close..." blah blah blah. I sent the error reports. Running Windows XP, up-to-date as of 2 days ago, virus protection up-to-date and scanned a few days ago.

Background: This morning, when I connected to the internet, I noticed the little security alert shield icon, and it said it was downloading updates... I thought this was strange, since I have my settings on "notify but don't automatically download". Just a couple of days ago, this worked, I was notified that there were updates available, and I downloaded them & installed them. This time it downloaded automatically. It was a big one, so I had plenty of time to check it out (make sure something wasn't being hijacked), and I installed Sygate Personal Firewall. When I resumed my connection, SPF let me know that it was downloading from au.microsoft. whatever the rest is, I forget, I just remember it looked valid, so I allowed it. I installed the updates when they were done. I chose to restart later, since I was in the middle of something...

That's when trouble began. After rebooting, Outlook seemed to work okay, then I started up Windows Media Player like I usually do, and that gave me the "encountered an error and needs to close" message. I went to open IE and it gave the same type of error. Then Outlook decided to jump on the bandwagon and do the sam... Read more

Hi,

I just noticed this problem a few days ago. Whenever my display turns off, all my windows in explorer closes even when I am moving files. I don't really know how this happened but it is very annoying. Also, my windows explorer crashes like 5 times a day. It says that windows explorer is not responding and I have to wait for it to refresh but there are also times when I can't open it anymore then I'll have to restart my computer.

I have already done a full virus scan and system file checker but there were no threats or errors found.

Is there a way to fix this problem?

Thank you.

Welcome shine21 to the windows 7 forums.

People here would be able to help you if you filled in the system specifications under your Control Panel.

Also, you might want to list what programs or changes you have made to your system.

I have a windows 7 msi laptop that until recently has had no issues.
The past several weeks however, Internet Explorer closes unexpectedly multiple times when I am online. Also, I cannot open PDF files and Adobe Reader will not reinstall. iTunes won't open, and pictures won't open when I double-click them.

No error messages have shown up...the programs simply just do not open. I have the latest version of iTunes, and I am unable to download any version of a PDF file reader, but I previously had Nuance.

I have NO CLUE what to do or how to begin trying to resolve this issue, and most of my work files are PDF so this is becoming a huge problem...please help.

A:Internet Explorer closes unexpectedly, Adobe Reader won't open, iTunes won't open....

Hello and welcome to TSF,
The first step would be to try a different browser and see if your online problems keeps happening. If you are a hardcore IE fan, see if there is an update for it. As far as your pictures and files are concerned, it might need a simple solution like Disk Defrag. Many people overlook this, but hey it works! You can also do a Disk Cleanup (also built into Windows) which clears some unnecessary junk.
Good Luck!

I hope someone can help me before I lose it!

The last week or so I have been experiencing problems with IE. If I click on a new tab, 9 times out of 10 it shuts the window completely then gives the generic "windows has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. It's infuriating me at the moment, I have no idea what has caused this, I installed a new printer a couple of weeks ago but I can't see it being that?!?

I wonder if there's a way I can repair IE?

All suggestions gratefully accepted

Hello everyone, im fairly new to this, so please bear with me.

Recently, ive been having trouble with my computer. It started one morning when i went to go check my email. My main browser is google chrome exe so naturally i go to click it. Which is when all this starts -_-. i double click on it, but the program doesnt open. I try to open it by left clicking and running as an admin but still no luck. I soon realize that this is the case for ALL of my programs except Internet explorer, which i find strange considering the similarities with the other browsers. Anyway, ive read previous similar problems on here, and i download Hijackthis. I have a log folder that i can post if needed. Also i see something when i try to open the program quicky enough but i cant make out what it is before it closes. There is also a suspicious search engine called searchqu.com406 that comes up as soon as i start internet explorer Keep in mind this doesnt happen in safe mode, and evrything works fine, just like the computer was regularly before. Ive tried multiple Malwarebytes scans, stinger, (which is still scanning after 25 mins) and AVG (which begins to scan, but then a command prompt comes up and stops it) all to no avail. Any help would greatly be appreciated Please and Thank You

Everytime I double click on the shortcut to Internet explorer (doesn't matter which one, they all do it), the web browser opens. The page begins to load and within 5 secs it just closes. No error pages. nothing. If I open a web browser and click on my Yahoo toolbor's mail button fast enough before the page closes, i can get around the problem and then use the internet, but this is exceedingly frustrating.

Sometimes at random the web browser closes and the error message that allows you to send a message to microsoft shows up. This happens randomly after I have been using the internet for a few minutes, idk if it means anything but I put it up just in case.

Finally, (sorry its so long) everytime I try to upgrade to Internet Explorer 7 it says it can't download it, restart the comp, and use the troubleshoot page which gives no help. Idk if any of these are related but these are all the problems I am having. I have XP and IE6. Any ideas of what is going on?

The internet explorer page is mostly blank so i cannot access the internet options via 'tools', i can't even get into the internet options via control panel, it just wont open, as many people have suggested. People have also suggested uninstalling Internet Explorer completely and download firefox, but how am i meant to download firefox or internet explorer 8 if i uninstall my only browser? by the way i'm assuming i have internet explorer 7 and i have an xp home edition. Any help and suggestions would be hugely appreciated!

Good afternoon -

Whenever I try to open Microsoft Security Essentials the GUI briefly appears but then immediately closes, and the system tray icon disappears. If I try to reopen it the same thing happens. If I right click and choose Run As Administrator it opens and stays open. I am running MalwareBytes but have no other AV software running or installed (nor has there ever been). I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling MSE with the same results. I've done full scans with MBAM and MSE and no issues were found.

This is a relatively new PC, only been assembled and running about a week. Not sure what is going on here.

A:Microsoft Security Essentials immediately closes after I open it

Installed Avast, it runs fine. Also no threats detected. I'm sure it's just some goofy setting or something causing MSE to crash. But if Avast works I'll just use that from now on in place of MSE.

since today i've been experiencing quite unusual behaviour of windows explorer. After logon the taskbar shows up for a blink of eye, and then closes. Explorer.exe cannot be started from task manager as well (the same behaviour). Iexplore.exe neither.

I've seen some similar problems here, usually caused by malware, but I couldn't find anything suspicious on my computer. This is HJThis log:

I am on Windows XP. Suddenly I notice that Internet Explorer crashes or closes automatically when I try to go to any web site. when I launch IE it opens with black page and gives me option to either go to previous session or to my home page. But when I do either it closes, I also tried typing an URL in the address box and it still closes. I also noticed that Windows media player won't work any more, I get error msg 'an internal application error has occurred'.

Greeting Forum Members:
I am running Windows XP - SP2 on my Thinkpad T60 Core Duo. For the past week I am experiencing a strange problem. I am sincerely hoping that I can get help. Thanks much in advance. Here are the symptoms
1. When trying to explore folder names beginning with 'sy', explorer immediately closes
2. When trying to open web sites whose bookmark names begin with 'sy' IE closes
3. Control Panel -> System, window closes
4. If I rename the folder to some other name, then I can open and explore contents
5. I scanned for virus using Symantec Anti Virus, none found
6. Tried restarting windows under 'Safe Mode'. I get Blue Screen (BSOD)
7. When I do Start->Accessories-> System Information, I get an error "An outgoing call cannot be made since the application is dispatching an input-synchronous call'. I can however see some information about the system inthe backdrop.
++++++
I ran Hijack this and here is the log. I would highly appreciate if you could help me out

I was able to install MBAM by changing the name and file extension to test.bat - the program would not run. I then was able to get the program to run by changing mbam.exe to test.bat. MBAM found the following: Trojan.DNSChanger, Trojan.FakeAlert, Trojan.Agent

MBAM removed them, MBAM returns clean results. Internet explorer still opens and closes immediately. All my software that requires a license opens and now claims it could not contact the license server or license expired.

Hi,

I recently saved three video files (windows media player files) to my ipod and ever since whenever I try to open the ipod folder to access these the folder goes blank and "windows explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close". I assume that at least one of these files is corrupt somehow so I was wondering if there was anyway to delete these without losing the music I have stored on the ipod?
When I saved them I removed the ipod before it had properly disconnected which might also be a cause.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey, I am having problems with my other computer suddenly closing both Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer applications, such as Control Panel, My Computer, etc...(Windows XP Home Edition)
When i click on either one, lets say the my computer icon, a pop up of the my computer folder thing flashes for a split second then disappears, the computer freezes for about a second, shows only the desktop, then a few seconds later the icons start appearing on my desktop and my start taskbar comes back. The screen is back to normal with no lag, but the my computer pop up is no longer there. The same thing happens with internet explorer, but it just happens alot quicker.
Does anyone know what could possibly be the problem of this, and maybe how to fix it? Thank You in advance.

My computer had/has a bug that will sleep, but not die. EasySearch is the bug and it is really pesty. My anti-spyware provider is close to finding an effective pesticide. I have overcome most problems, but I also have downloaded 5 browsers, IE, Firefox, Opera, Avant & NetCaptor to compare them. Now something different has occurred. IE, Firefox and Opera will open certain websites I like to visit, e.g. consumerworld.org and then promptly close the window. Avant and NetCaptor do not do this. I'm leaning toward Firefox as my preferred browser.

Question 1. Can you give me some advice as to how to make IE, Opera and Firefox keep these auto-closing windows open?

This is my first post. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Gary

I click on the OneDrive icon on the Windows 8.1 Start screen and the app opens, then immediately closes. All other apps work OK.
I have tried the troubleshooters, reset the Store cache and uninstalled and reinstalled Onedrive but the problem continues.
Another issue that is probably related is, although the Onedrive app is installed on the Start screen, it does not show on "My Apps" at "My Account" at the Windows Store.
Like I said above, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the OneDrive app several times but the situation remains.

I am not sure if this is a Vista problem or an Internet Explorer problem but I am using these programs on a PC and experiencing problems.

If I have multiple windows open in IE and click another link to open a new window, which either does not load or stalls thus giving me a "not responding" message, my only option is to select close and then it shuts down ALL my active IE windows. (Actually, I have three options, like... report the problem and restart the window, close the program, etc. but no matter which one you push, all three options shut down ALL the IE windows.) This never used to happen when I was using XP and an older version of IE (not sure which one.) Whenever one window stalled you could merely close the one window and all your previously opened windows would remain intact. Is this something I can fix? If I have to shut down the malfunctioning window, that is fine, but do I really have to lose all my functioning active pages due to one failure? What can I do?

Thanks.

I'm having a big issue here with my PC, I am currently using Firefox just to get support for this due to the fact that Explorer will not open and this is my only personal computer.

Problem:
Upon logging on, Explorer does not start (so no taskbar, icons, etc.) I know this can be a common problem. So, I open up task manager and run explorer, it opens and then closes less than a second later. It does this continuously and will not remain open at all.

I need help with this, very badly. I do not want to deal with losing my important files if I had to go to the extent of reinstalling XP.
How did this happen, you may ask?
I was simply cleaning out some files and NOT deleting anything of real value for windows (as far as I know, just simple music files and setup programs I no longer need). I then went to open a new folder using the start menu, trying to launch My Documents -- It wouldn't open. I close Explorer and run the task again, then this problem started and has yet to be repaired.

Please help!!

My computer keeps turning back on immediately after shutting down.  I have tried many fixes but none of them are working.
I went to the command prompt window and typed in "powercfg -lastwake", it didn't find anything.  I also typed in "powercfg -devicequery wake_armed".  It only displayed NONE.  I checked if there were any wake timers active, but there aren't any.  I've made it so that my mouse, keyboard and network adapter can't wake the computer.  I also had a look through the BIOS, and it doesn't look like wake on lan is active.
I have no idea what to do.  Please help!
My specs are:
motherboard: Asus Sabertooth 990fx r2.0
Processor: amd fx-8350
Ram: 16gb
OS: windows 8.1 64 bit
If any additional specs are required, let me know. Thank you in advance.

Please give me some time to look over your computer's log(s).
Please take note of the following:In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer.
Also, even if things appear to be running better, there is no guarantee that everything is finished. Please continue to check this forum post in order to ensure we get your system completely clean. We do not want to clean you part-way up, only to have the system re-infect itself. :)
If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
Finally, please reply using the button in the lower left hand corner of your screen.

A bit of a bizarre problem, here. I am running a Windows Vista laptop, and it's been functioning fine for about a year or so. However, a week or two ago I found that whenever I opened a window of Windows Explorer, the whole program instantly closed and rebooted, leaving me without a desktop for about thirty seconds. Essentially, I'm made unable to access any file that I can't directly get to from my desktop or start menu. Anyone know what's wrong?

Hello,
I am fairly experienced with building computers and installing and setting up Windows. This topic is about a system I build 6 months ago with the AMD Athlon 64 cpu, 1gb Corsair ram, and Nvidia video card on an Asus board. That is all I recall from memory, but this is no a hardware problem.
This system has operated rock solid until last week. One day, after a normal boot up, it started WinXP with a blank blue screen. Task Manager came up normally with Ctrl-Alt-Del and showed no applications running and no abnormal processes running. Explorer.exe was not running either. I tried starting Explorer to no avail. The Taskbar appears for half a sec before Explorer shuts down again without any error. The computer seems to work normally doing any other than running Explorer.exe. In fact, This system was used for all other normal business while I spent the next few days troubleshooting.
Norton AV, Adaware, and Spyware S&D run on this system normally, and none of these found anything more serious than a tracking cookie. My next thought, after virus or trojan, is that a system file had been corrupted. Most perplexing, still, was the fact that I received no error. It made me wonder if Explorer was loading properly, and being immediately shutdown by some malware. I knew there are several DLL's that will give Explorer.exe heartburn, so I ran SFC /scannow. It completed without reporting any problem and it did not solve mine. Does anyone know if Explorer.exe is done loading b... Read more

Hi, the Internet Explorer icon just dissappeared from the windows bar on the bottom of the screen. Instead, a white blank icon replaced it. How can I get the normal icon back? Thanks for your feedback.

A:windows internet explorer icon dissappeared, replaced by white blank

Hello bakelite, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If the IE shortcut still works, then you might see if rebuilding the icon cache may help.

If not on both, then you could see if unpinning the icon, then pinning the iexplore.exe file below to your taskbar to recreate it may show better.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

Hope this helps for now,

Hello,

I'm trying to find help with Internet Explorer 6.

When I go to some pages, inespecific, all the windows of Internet Explorer that were opened suddenly closes.

I don't receive any error message, the program just finishs.

I'm using Windows XP Professional with SP2 and all the OS updates up to date through WindowsUpdate site.

I suppouse that Internet Explorer is damaged or corrupt, so I tryed re-installing SP2, but the problem continues.

I'm using Zone Alarm Free Edition and Avast Home Edition.

I've scanned the system with Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy but they couldn't find any problem.

I executed Hijackthis v1.99.1 but I can't identify any suspicious (I'm not expert). So I attach the Log File for your evaluation.

Please, any help will be very useful.

Thankyou

In IE x64-Bit, I can't open Tools>Internet Options. I read here: "If you have Spybot Search & Destroy installed open it click Mode, choose Advanced Mode, click Tools, click IE Tweaks, uncheck "Lock IE control panel against opening from within IE etc.".When I chose Advanced Mode, a box opens and asks me if I want to do this. I click Yes and it disappears. A box doesn't open for me to Tweak. Is there another way to do this or another method to get Internet Options to open again?message edited by Hartful

If you can download Ultra virus killer by Carified, install it and run it. Click on "System Repair" Icon, then tick "Reset IE and internet settings", then click "run selected apps/fixes. See if that resolves the issue, link below.http://www.carifred.com/uvk/To err is human but to really screw things up, you need a computer!

I am using ie7 and winxp on my computer and have recently had an issue with it. When I try to open explorer the window closes before it actually loads up. Bits of the taskbar keep turning grey as well like the old style windows.

I have tried removing all add ons and resetting internet settings but have had no luck. The connection is okay with other computers. On the problem computer the icons on the taskbar says it is there until I click on it when it disspears. I have tried downloading and running programmes like spybot on it (downloading them onto another disk and then transferring them onto the computer) but most seem to need to use the internet to run them. I cant use the web at all so solutions like installing ie6 dont seem possible either. I have ran hijack this here is the log. Any help would be most appreciated.

Been having trouble with a Windows XP Service Pack 3 machine using the internet, specifically Internet Explorer. IE8 opens but then shuts down immediately with an error message saying that Internet Explorer must be shut down. Was getting this yesterday on repeated attempts. For some reason tonight IE actually opened, I then tried to install Firefox (which had been blown out of the machine somehow) and get the error "Your current security settings do not allow this to be downloaded."Machine is also running much slower than normal. AVG is up to date and hasn't found any viruses, although a tracking cookie alert popped up tonight and I clicked Move To Vault. Firewall is enabled. Not sure if there is anti-spyware running on this, other than AVG. Hello there,

My roomates Dell Dimension 2400 laptop , XP Pro, SP3,
Dual core Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.40 Ghz
2.39 Ghz, 1.00 GB Ram

Is having trouble with Internet Explorer dissapearing immediately and Chrome won't come open and Firefox is slow in opening:(

Joyces brother did something that made her laptop only start in Safe mode.

Not sure all he did but he removed Malwarebytes and did microsoft update.

The Comodo Internet suite Firewall/antivirus is getting an error and won't run

I reinstalled Malwarebytes and ran it and it found a pesky virus I have dealt with alot before called 'My Web Search'. it infected 3 registry files. Whe I tried to run system restore it wouldnt work its earlies date to restor to was 2066!! lol.

Anyway I got it to start normally by runing MsConfig and puting a checkmark by "Start Normally and load all drivers etc." Instead of the "Selected start up option.

It started normally and was fine except for Internet explorer and chrome not working.

I un-installed in add and remove the listed Internet Explorer 7 and 8 in hopes that it would revert to a good copy of Internet explorer 6 like I have done before.

When I open Internet explorer it opens to a plain white window and just hangs there. In task manager it shows in the processes tab but not in the applications tab:( And when you minimize it on the taskbar it has the little "e" icon but does not say Internet explorer next to it on the taskbar:(

Computer covers whole screen with either white, or white with black, and blue stripes. Multiple times a day.?
This computer was bought in 2005, (HP Media Center PC). Within the second week this freezing(it freezes, and the screen has a white or white with black and blue stipes) occured( yes second week, my brother was uninformed and thought it was normal and didnt return it. It happened often enough as to save anything you were working on every ten to twenty minutes on a bad day. It settled and slowly became less of a problem, then stoped. One day he got a virus and had to restore the computer, the freezing started up again. same as last time, it settled then stoped, a month later, i recieved this computer as a hand me down, as my brother went to college and got a MAC. That was in mid summer of 2008, a week and a half ago, i got a huge virus, i restored my computer, and the freezing started up again, after not doing it once for over a year. It has gotten as bad as freezing every 30 minutes some nights. And earlier today it froze, i turned off and on my computer, went down stairs, and when i came back it was frozen again. I had not even used and program. Please help if you have any idea whats wrong!
Things to keep in mind...
-It only happened after the computer was restored, or bought(ish)
-Its not a normal freeze where you see the programs on the screen still, the screen goes completely white, or white with black and blue stripes.
-4 years old

Thanks!

A:Screen Freezes and turns white or white with stripes

Then maybe it isn't freezing at all. Maybe there's a problem with your monitor, vga cable, or video card.

Try a different monitor/cable and see if that changes anything. If it doesn't, then try reseating the video card--if any--and if that doesn't work I suggest getting a cheap one from someone's old pc at least to test with.

Installing a new video card can be complicated, but google search for a guide or follow the setup instructions for the video card to the letter and you'll have no problems.

Let us know what's going on, we love to help here... it's like an addiction, but we can stop anytime... really we can.

Welcome to TSF. I know I come off a bit strange, but most of the people here are friendly... and nowhere near as messed up.

About two weeks ago when turning on my laptop, entered my password and the desktop showed, shortly after my taskbar turned white and the turned back to its normal colour again. The same thing happened to me again this day. I use the windows 7 basic theme, where the taskbar is light blue-ish. So shortly after the taskbar has finished loading, its switched from the light blue colour, to white (for a few seconds), then turns back to the light blue colour again. Also i've been noticing 2-3 small flashes on my screen over the past three weeks. Norton, malwarebytes and all my other detection programs dont show any infections.

Another thing id like to mention is that when typing an email in gmail, my drafts folder shortly after typing showed 2 drafts (it usually shows 1 drafts while typing the email). So after sending the email and emptying the drafts folder, gmail kept "making" two drafts on its own, even though i was typing further email. No suspicious activity was shown i gmail (no unknown ip adresses, no unknown login dates/times). The gmail thing could be a glitch. Just wanted to explain all the odd things thats been happening Any thoughts?

In our office there is one site that we have to use Internet Explorer to access. This morning immediately upon start it crashed on two computers(I am unsure if they are related or not). So I have spent three hours trying to fix it and I am not stuck. It is IE 10 (or was) and it is Windows 7. Things I have tried:

1. Running with no addons.
2. Uninstalling then Reinstalling.
3. Doing an sfc scan to see if it was a missing system file.
4. Making sure all required and optional updates were installed.
5. One computer is used sparingly, there is nothing on it but the default programs but ran a virus scan anyway and it turned up nothing.
6. Reset all internet explorer settings.
7. Finally I installed the IE11 beta version and it does the exact same thing.

Having two different IE versions do the exact same thing makes me think it is a system issue and not an IE issue. Both Firefox and Chrome work with no issues.

Just wanted to add that it will start in safe mode with no problems

Just disabled DEP on IE

A:Internet Explorer immediately shuts down upon start

Maybe try running these tools: tool 1, tool 2.

If that doesnt help, I have a few more possible solutions. This is another one: Install IE 10 and make sure all Windows updates are installed (not just for IE, but for the OS).

If that doesnt work, tell me.

MS Word 2000 SR-1 closes immediately on launch. My operating system in Microsoft XP Pro. I've removed the program and reinstalled it, restarting the system after each action. I've updated AVG and run it, then restarted the computer, but no luck. Any ideas?

A:Word closes immediately

yes, here an idea
though, you have remove the application from your computer, you system have kept some files from old installation.
not to worry, this can be fixed by purging all MS Office files from your system.

let us start with add/remove programs & remove MS Office 2000
click Start, Run & type regedit & OK. browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office. right click that folder & choose the delete option.
go to C drive, Programs Files, & delete Microsoft Office from there. (don't worry if you receive an error of some files can not be removed, will just do it after reboot)
if the last step gave u an error, please reboot & delete after reboot (don't open any applications or browsers)
reboot
click Start, Run & type %TEMP%, the click OK. (delete all items within the folder that opens)
reboot
reinstall MS Office 2000
this should fix your issue. please let me know how it goes

I am having the same problem. I have tired resetting, I ran sfc and no issues were found. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling. Also tried the tweaks from majorgeeks.com. I have tried IE9 via update and IE11 via update and also from downloading. Also I just finished a clean install on a tower and have the exact same issues there. I am desperate here. I need IE to complete MOAC labs. Both machines are running Win7 64bit. Laptop has Home Premium and the new tower is Pro. Both machines have the OS on one partition with registry point program files to a second partition.

A:IE 11 - When opened, immediately closes

Moved to a thread of your own, please do not hijack another thread, making one of your own will get you help specific to your issue.
Do you have any other issues, where did you get the copies of windows that are installed, have you tried running a startup repair. What about other browsers do they have the same problem.

Hi All,

Internet Explorer (7 and 8) will open and close immediately under Vista Home Premium. I have tried the following:

1) Run IE in no adds-on mode. Does the same thing.

2) Reset all settings under the Internet Options Panel---when it gets to the third part 'Applying Default Settings' it fails.

3) Run Malware Malabytes in Safe Mode---nothing detected.

4) Install IE8 (wasn't working back when it was IE7), still no luck. Uninstalled back to IE 7, no working, and then back to IE8.

So, any ideas? I normally use Firefox and Opera, but there is one specific work-related website that requires some ASP scripting that neither Firefox or Opera can handle!

Thanks!

Hi, you need first to download Windows XP Service Pack 3
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=24
You are missing out on important Windows Update and your Pc is not protected.
------
Once you have installed SP3 - restart your Pc and check for Windows Updates.

When that is done - post a New Hjt log.
-------
Download Security Check by screen317 from
http://screen317.spywareinfoforum.org/
Or
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/securitycheck/

Save it to your Desktop.
Double click the install icon.
Let it scan the Pc - press any key when asked.
It should now open in Notepad.
Copy and Paste the result of the scan in the reply box below.

The saved log will be called checkup.txt.

IE8 works on my laptop but I cannot get Direct x to function properly on http://www.moac.microsoftlabsonline.com I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling via the "Turn Windows features on or off" section of the control panel. Also reset IE through the control panel. Followed the instructions from this page as well. Internet Explorer opens, flashes, and then closes immediately when you start it Here is the link to the thread that suggested I seek help here.

Other browser (Firefox) works fine. I rarely use IE and only need it now to do the lab work for the 2 MOAC courses I am taking.

When we open Internet Explorer 11 in the machines, it freezes for some time and then closes automatically. No error is getting recorded in the even viewer. Tries to launch the IE by disabling the add ons and by enabling the use software rendering instead of
GPU rendering. Disabled the script also but no use. When i tried to uninstall IE 11 and use the old version of IE it works fine.

IE 11 opens and then closes immediately. The only way to open IE 11 is to right click on IE shortcut, select properties, then set to open minimized. Then click IE 11 on toolbar, and it opens. Setting IE 11 to Normal or Maximized causes IE 11 to open then immediately close. I have removed then re-installed IE 11, ran malewarebytes and ccleaner but IE 11 still has the same problem. I turned off GP rendering. I am out of ideas, does anyone have any other methods to try?

Run CCleaner-Slim or CCleaner-Portable & remove everything it finds, then try IE11 again. If that doesn't do it, go to Internet Options > Advanced tab, then click the reset button located near the bottom.https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/b...

Its wise to make sure when you are doing updates and Service Packs to make sure the system is 100% malware free. With that said, why wold the SP3 not install? Did you recieve an error and if so what was the EXACT error message?

You can try to run the following command to see if any DLL files are missing/damaged.

sfc /scannow

Try also the install folder of the app you use with IE7, if there is a DLL called PSAPI.dll
if there is delete it or rename the file.

This is primarily a informational post for those interested.. I found this post http://forums.techguy.org/malware-r...regedit-msconfig-closes-immediately-upon.html and wanted to reply but it was closed.

I just copied my drive over using Western Digital's Data Lifeguard utility. Upon rebooting (and making sure the new drive was selected in the bios to boot from) I encountered 2 problems..

1: the boot menu (which had not previously been enabled) now showed two entries for "Default system", both which worked, but was annoying to me..
2: msconfig would not work for me to check the startup and boot.ini.

I ran through a lot of steps trying to get msconfig to work again.. copied the file to a different location, rename it as a different filename, check for virus/malware, even copied it from my laptop, and checking the registry entries.. Nothing would let this program run!
As far as antivirus programs, I run Avast! .. I was POSITIVE I had no virus malware, etc. Even still, I ran a boot time virus sweep. NOTHING found. Even ran HijackThis.. again nothing. After MUCH searching on Google and even these forums, I simply resigned myself that I was going to need to do a repair install (which I hate doing). I decided to check one last thing first.. manual edit of the boot.ini.

When I opened it up and compared to my laptop running the same version of the OS (Win XP Pro sp3) I noticed it was missing an entry .. the information under [operating systems] (second entry) was b... Read more

A:IE closes immediately upon launching

My Internet Explorer on my laptop will open, but then immediately closes itself down.

It won't stay open, no matter what I do.

Tried to run the virus scan, which removed 2 problems, but that didn't work.

I wanted to update my Norton Antivirus to see if that would find and solve the issue but since the updates are web-based, and my I/E won't stay open, I can't do that either.

Any suggestions?

Hello FYI, I was referred to post here by MRT.Today I did Windows updates. Before updating, I had Win XP SP2 and IE6 (IE6 used to work fine). After updating, I had IE7 and XP SP3.After going to IE7 and XP SP3:IE will not work. IE flashes open and closes very fast. The text in the cmd prompt dialog box is now teeny tiny microscopic (was normal sized before).Wireless connection will not work. (worked fine before; now using ethernet connection to DSL modem).I found this topic on Microsoft's site:When you start Internet Explorer, it opens, flashes, and then closes immediatelyhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/967896Tried "resetting" IE, as per Microsoft's instructions.....didn't work.I uninstalled IE7, and IE6 still did not work. Downloaded IE8 and am about to install it, per Microsoft's instructions in above-referenced topic.Anybody ever heard of this, text in cmd prompt dialog box going teeny tiny after IE7 and XP SP3 updates, and what the fix is for this?Regarding the wireless connection not working after IE7 and XP SP3 updates:I right clicked wireless icon in tray area of taskbar, hit "Repair" and it was unable to "repair". Went back to Control Panel, Network Connections, right clicked on Wireless Network Connection, hit Properties, clicked TCP/IP, hit Properties. There is a checkmark in "obtain IP Address Automatically". I thought maybe I could type it in manually, so I went to the cmd prompt, did an IPCONFIG. The top part... Read more

Well...the only question I have...is do you have a boxmaker (Dell, HP, etc.) system?

If so, you should have read their documentation/suggestions before ever installing SP3.

I'll start with my current setup:

I'm running Win 7 Pro 64 on a Dual HDD setup, 120GB SSD/1.5TB Spinning. I have installed Windows on the SSD and I have set the Registry to expect Program Files and Program Files (x86) in the D drive.

So far, so good, except IE will not start. It flashes on the screen and immediately closes. It's getting frustrating. I've tried the Microsoft solution, and even re-registered all the .dll's for IE.

At this point, I have no idea what to do next. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? I would really prefer not to set Program Files and (x86) back to C drive, but I might have to if I want IE to run. And yes, I run a different browser primarily, I'd just like to know IE is functioning.

I know this has been addressed in previous posts but none of the solutions I found worked for me.

Upon starting my computer, opening regedit isn't possible. I get an error message saying: "Regedit is disabled by administer." To fix this, I run (every time I turn on my netbook) the following statement: REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableRegistryTools /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

This allows me to open Regedit, but it immediately closes again.

I have started working in Sierra Leone and know my computer has many viruses on it. Still, none of my anti-virus software (I use AVG Free 9.0 and PandaSecurity ActiveScan 2.0) has solved this problem.

Below please find my HJT log. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Daniel

Ohh Hi...I've posted a same thread on this issue before but i made a stupid mistake..
I added the word hijackthis to my title..and i cant seem to open the thread up due to the problems in my computer...

i'll basically repeat what i said on my previous thread..

I know that I've heard that other people have had similar problems, and I've read how they have had their problems fixed. Ive tried many different things to get my problem fixed, but nothing seems to work.

I think I may have multiple problems that may or may not be related to each other, but either way I cannot do certain things to fix anything.

The problems that I have noticed are:
1. Home page for internet explorer changes to nuevaq.fm even when I change it back to what I want.
2.a)Hijack This opens, then lasts about 5 seconds, then automatically closes
b) Whenever I type Hijack This in internet explorer, whether on google, or any site, Internet Explorer closes within seconds (making it almost impossible to search for help regarding Hijack This)
3. Regedit/msconfig open for a split second then close again (task manager and antivirus sites do still work)

could any of u tell me if there's another software i can use to get rid of this problem..and if possible guide me through the process...thanks

FYI: i posted this in this section because i could not enter the proper forum cause my browser seems to automatically close when i do so...srry for the inconvenience caused..

A:Browser & Hijack closes Immediately

You computer is obviously infected. Are you saying you cannot post in the Malware Removal & HijackThis logs forum? Possibly caused by the name HijackThis?

Can you download the program after booting in Safe Mode with Networking?

Is so,

Please click here to download and install the HijackThis installer.
Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

Do not fix anything

Internet Explorer 7.

There is a particular page of just one website that brings up the following message the second it has loaded: 'Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.'

It's a multiple choice bullet page for placing an order at the pizzahut.co.uk site!!

I can logon just fine, but as soon as I navigate to the problem page the error is thrown up. It bugs me enough to tell you about it here!

Can anyone suggest a remedy for this? I just want to be able to order a pizza without the damn error!

Very curious that it only happens with this page and on this site only.

Not the most serious problem in the world I admit, but any help appreciated of course.

Thanks.

Thought this would be a good place to ask this...if not, feel free to point me in the right direction.

I've had this problem ever since the first betas, thinking that it would eventually work or "be fixed"--but even the release candidate and now the final has the same issue.

When I install IE9, when I go to open up the browser (32 or 64), it opens for a split second and then immediately closes. Every single time. I've never seen IE9 open on this machine.

One of my thoughts on why would be that I have two hard drives in this machine--a 60GB SSD and a 1TB HDD. I manually edited the registry entry for default install location / program files location to the E: drive, or 1TB drive, so I don't mistakenly install programs onto the SSD and clog up its limited space. For 95% of programs this has worked out just fine, including Microsoft's own Security Essentials (even though I'd love to have the option to put it on the SSD, but there's no options on where to install it).

Anyone else run into a problem like this? Is there a better solution than reverting that program files change? Now that I've had Windows running for a while I imagine changing that record will cause some...not so nice issues.

EDIT: And I just checked--IE9 is indeed installing to Program Files on the E:\ drive.

A:IE9 opens for a split second, then immediately closes.

For IE crashing, you probably want to try starting it from the command line first to see if it works this way - start > run > iexplore -extoff. If so, you have an add-on causing an issue, and can disable them via autoruns.

Has anybody come across this before?

Thanks.

Hello,

Boot into Safe Mode and see if you can uninstall the program then try the reinstall.

If still does not work try creating a new user profile. Create a new browser user profile - Google Chrome Help

If still having issue make sure that your antivirus is up to date and perform a scan on the PC.

See the thread below and try the recommended fix. Hopefully this helps

OK, this is what's going on...

This particular game doesn't require much out of my machine. I've ran this game 5-6 times over just to see and it still ran smoothly, so I know for fact it has nothing to do with hardware (especially because I can still run much more graphically/processor intensive games). Just getting that out of the way.

I have played this game, unchanged, many-a-time pretty much every day, then one day it simply quits working. No update to the game (it does not update automatically), no change whatsoever. It'll just open and immediately close before any kind of content, color, or image is loaded. The whole process of me attempting to run the game and it closing takes less than a second.

I've tried spamming the game to see if maybe a 1 in 100 shot will randomly open it. This didn't work.

I have removed all my firewalls and antivirus, just for sake of testing purposes. This didn't work. Yes, I rebooted.

I have absolutely completely uninstalled the game, then reinstalled it. Rebooted, and it didn't work.

I have tried running as Administrator, or even just disabling the UAC altogether. Rebooted, and it didn't work.

It's an online game. Windows Firewall is disabled, all my ports are open, nothing is justifying what's going on here.

The two previous Firewalls/Antivirus I had were McAfee and Avast.

I am on Windows 7.

What game and what are you exact PC specs (make and model if its a big brand name, or make and model of motherboard, cpu, gpu, ram, harddrive, power supply including wattage, optical drives etc.)?

At the moment, all you are saying is a random game doesn't work on a undefined machine ... thats not a lot to work with

Hi,
I am running Windows 2000 on my machine here at work. I had Office 2000 Professional installed and all was well. A few weeks ago I installed a CAD reading program called Volo View and sometime there after all my problems started. All of my office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.) close only a few seconds after opening any one. I have removed both softwares and tried reinstalling Office. I also removed Volo View out of the registry also and it still shuts down. I found a MS fix to edit the registry by deleting HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0 and then reinstalling Office from an administrator profile which didn't help. I have run Spybot, Adaware and CW Shredder, in an attempt to remove anything that may have come about via the internet and none have solved my problem. Below is my Startup Log and HijackThis Log. when removing Office 2000 to correct problems, make sure you run OFF2000: Utility to Completely Remove Remaining Office CD1 Files and Registry Entries and OFF2000: Utility to Completely Remove Remaining Office CD2 Files to clean up any leftovers the uninstall left behind

Here's some MS KB articles that might help with the programs closing problem . . .
Office 2000 programs quit immediately on Windows 2000 when you are logged on as user
Error messages starting Office 2000 program, or program immediately quits on Windows XP, Windows NT 4.0, or Windows 2000
OFF2000: Program Quits Immediately After Installing Project or Visio, not necessarily the same issue, but you can try it, if all else fails.
