Hi and Welcome to TSF!

Do you have any of your driver CDs?

You could preform a system restore to yesterday to bring back any changes you made.

Tried to free up space and deleted "rarely" used items. Now I have no sound and don't know how to reinstall. Didn't have any restore dates either. Only 345mg free space. What is the windows os? I've tried 7, Vista, XP. All answers are incorrect. "No audio Device, & No active mixer Devices" system says.

A:Uninstalled SoundMax, now no sound

We need to know the brand and model of your computer or motherboard, and operating system.
When you run the defragmentation for Windows, how much free space shows at the end of that defragment update. You want at least 15% free space.
If you have the space, the first thing you need to do is download and install the drivers for your sound system on the motherboard or on a sound card...
Do you know what your sound system is? If so, you can download driver updates from the sound card manufacturer or the motherboard manufacturer, and then installing them is a simple "click on the download" and follow the instructions.

ok. i uninstalled soundmax from add/remove programs thinkin it was just another audio player i didnt need... sound doesnt work at all.. I HAVE A DELL 4600 PENTIUM 4... i went to device manager and under sound video and game controllers it says
-audio codecs
-legacy audio drivers
-legacy video capture devices
-media control devices
-unimodem half-duplex audio devices
-video codecs
and under other devices it has a question mark with an exclamation mark beside multimedia audio controller.. BUT THATS UNDER OTHER DEVICES.. i went to dell drivers and downloads and downloaded Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio, right after it finished.. or i think finished something poped up with a big red x the title was soundMAX - Installshield Wizard and in the box it read, "windows audio service has been enabled! please restart your computer and run this installer again". i did, and the exact same thing poped up. So, i decided to download soundmax file version:4.0.100.1189. i ran that program or driver or whatever it was and a box poped up with a big red x once again.. it read "Driver not found! Reboot your system, and run this setup again." i restarted the computer and installed the program again but again it said the same thing, at this point im stuck and dont know what the h*ll to do.:dead:.

I need some help with RESTORING my Audio on my computer. I accidentally REMOVED SoundMAX on my computer. I am running Windows XP Home Edition. I have tried System Restore, however, when it finishes reinstalling, an error comes up stating Your computer cannot be restored to Monday, July 12, 2010 - Removed SoundMAX - No changes have been made to your computer.
Hope someone can help me out here?
Thanks!

If your computer is a big box brand, go to their website and look for their drivers.
Otherwise, look for your motherboard info or sound card info to google for a location for a driver.

I had to install a new hard drive on my computer. Now, I can not get any sound. In trying to install the device driver from the Dell Resource CD, I get an error that says "an error occured while unzipping. One or more files were not successfully unzipped. The error code is 40." Then it asked me to restart my computer and try again. This happens when I get to the SoundMax Install Wizard screen. I have a Dell Dimension 4550 and am running on Windows XP. The Audio Driver is SoundMax: Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio Driver. Any information would be helpful. Thanks in Advance

Go to Dell's website and their support section enter yur service tag number and go to the downloads section for your machine and download the drivers from there. they probably have an updated one there anyway.

On my windows XP (Compaq laptop)I was removing some un-needed programs from the control panel and thought ATI was a program that I did not need (sigh) So after realizing I messed up, I re-installed the program from the ATI site but now I have 2 radeon drivers showing and my settings will not stay set. They keep reverting to low resolution. How do I get rid of the extra radeon driver and get my settings back to normal? Thanks everyone for any advice!

A:I accidentally uninstalled ATI

Completely uninstall all ATI/AMD drivers, and run DriverSweeper to clean up any left overs: http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/

Then download and install the ATi drivers from the Compaq website for your specific laptop model(check the sticker on the bottom).

Being the pro that i am - i've accidently uninstalled my sound whilst trying to add/remove some other programs.

I am using my Dell inspiron 1525 laptop - i have spoken to dell who[after remote accessing] hadn't got a clue what the issue was and decided to fob me off by saying as i 'downgraded' from vista to XP i wasn't warranty covered.

I've also tried installing many drivers - including the ones from their website - which ends up with the error message 'this is not the right driver for this system' although to get to it i had to insert my service tag.

So i'm soundless. - When i goto 'sounds and devices' in control panel, all of the sound options have been greyed out.

Device Audio : 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller

Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks!

A:Accidentally Uninstalled my sound

Look in Device Manager to see if there is a yellow question mark item for it. Tight click it then click Properties, the the Details tab. For Device instance Id you should see a text string similar to "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801B5". That should tell us what driver you need.

Also look in Device Manager under System Devices. There should be an entry for Universal Audio Architecture version 1.0a. This driver needs to be there before you can install the HD audio driver.

Yes, it was incredibly stupid to accidentally uninstall it. But twice, I got audio malware after installing a completely different program and when I looked to see which new programs were installed to find out if malware was installed, MS Office 365 was installed on the same date as the program I had purposely installed. This time, I had installed Java and I thought that this was some malware program masquerading as MS Office. It was not. I can no longer run MS Word or Excel.

I tried to run a System Restore several times, but I kept getting an error message (30175-13). When I look it up, it only says that I need to re-install the program. This is a problem, because my son gave me his computer and he doesn't know how he got MS Office 365. I think it probably came bundled with his laptop, but I have no way of re-installing it.

Because I ran System Restore so many times, I can no longer access System Restore from the date at which I last had MS Office. (I didn't realize that would happen, or I would have waited until I visited a forum like this one).

I know I can use Open Office, and I only use Word and Excel, but I do need MS Word 2007 or newer for one of my part-time jobs and I need MS Word for another part-time job as well.

Is there any way for me to recover that program at this point? My OS is Windows 7.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

Janet

I have recently purchased a gateway dx4300 sold to me with vista and a free upgrade to windows 7. My windows 7 upgrade arrived today, and I started the process. during which the installer tells me that there is incompatible software, and that I should uninstall prior to installing windows 7. I uninstalled the ATI graphics software and now I can't see anything on the monitor. Is there anyway to undo this obvious mistake?

A:ATI Video accidentally uninstalled can't see anything.

In XP there is a startup option (accessed by Pressing F8 before the Windows loading screen starts) that will enable VGA mode (or something similar). Vista might have something similar, then when you get in the OS, it should prompt you to install the driver, which it *should* find by itself. Then you should be able to get your computer back.

Hello everyone,

I accidentally uninstalled PCHealth today and tried following the instructions found here:

http://www.techsupportforum.com/f10/...th-303761.html

It says that some of the files are newer than the ones to be installed so at first I said no to overwrite. I restarted then tried to run Help and Support again and it says that the "Help and Support" service is not running.

I went to Services and tried to manually start the "Help and Support" service (it was said to be stopped in MSConfig) and it keep saying "Error 1083: The executable program that this service is configured to run in does not implement the service."), tried reinstalling again then overwrote the files, but still the same error.

I am currently using WinXP Media Center edition with SP3 installed, can anyone please help me on this? Thanks!

Hello Forum,

I was cleaning up my system because my current installation is at least one year old, and I wanted to clean up my codecs, because those often gave me trouble, especially those popular codec packs.

So I uninstalled a few but suddenly I had not a single codec left.
I thought that was some glitch so I checked if I can play any audio/video files, but only WAV and non-compressed AVI files worked.

I am trying to solve this problem for 3 hours now and apparently it is impossible to reinstall WMP 12, which would possibly reinstall it's standard codecs.

Is there any way to reinstall the codecs that are installed when you install your OS?
Just the standard codecs, no K-Lite or anything similiar, because that only makes it worse.

Hello there, this is my first time posting and i've got a bit of a conundrum on my hands. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ok here goes: long story short i've managed to uninstall several necessary usb drivers from my device manager and now when i start up my laptop i am prompted to reinstall their drivers. which would be fine except that i have accidentally uninstalled my keyboard, trackpad and usb ports... so i have no way to click "continue" and install the necessary drivers

a little more background, i am running xp sp3 under bootcamp 3 on a macbook pro. i tried starting in os x and loading windows through vmware fusion where (it seemed) i was able to reinstall all of those drivers however when i return to my normal bootcamp setup the changes have not applied (i'm assuming that this is because running a virtual machine handles or stores these stuff like that in a separately )

i think at this point these are the options i can think of:
- getting a usb to fw800 adapter and praying that a mouse will get recognized when i plug it into the fw port
-getting a bluetooth mouse (but i have a feeling i would need to click a button to get it synced)
-somehow reinstalling the basic bootcamp drivers again from the os x side (does anyone know if.how this can be done?)
-or taking remote control of my computer from another, but i have no experience with this.

i've tried talking to a few people about it, but most people just give me blank looks or tell me t... Read more

I accidentally uninstalled IDT audio on my HP ENVY dv6. I searched the internet for the driver and the closest I found was
HP ENVY dv6-7300 Quad Edition Notebook PC series*-* IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver - HP Business Support Center

But it did not work for me and I have no idea why. Can someone please offer a solution?

A:IDT Audio HP ENVY dv6 needed. Accidentally uninstalled

The HP site is the place to download the driver. Drivers from other sources or for non-HP PC's may not work. The sound driver you referenced appears to be the correct one.

What happened when you installed the sound driver you referenced? Did it install? or did it abort? or did it give you some error notice?

I accidentally uninstalled the atheros driver which I now know I need to connect wirelessly to the internet.
So I'm now stuck as I can't get internet access to reinstall the driver.
I read some similar forums and so tried to follow advice by restoring the system to an earlier point in time.

About the only thing I can think of for this one is to do a Windows System Restore (NOT factory restore) back to a time a day or two before the repair was requested. It keeps your own stuff - just type System Restore in Search.EDIT:I've assumed you have no Excel disk.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanksmessage edited by Derek

Hi there Welcome to SevenForums.com,
You will need another computer unless you use a cable to plug directly into the router.
You will have to go onto the Lenovo Website Here: Lenovo Support - Home (US)
Select your laptop make and model and find the wireless card driver. Download and install this and it should work fine again.

Hello i have a custume built computer that i got from my older brother because he up graded. i am horrible with computers. my problem is under standin it and wut not. her the big loop. i turn my computer on one day, bam no sound. so i looked into Realtek hd audio. sound in the controll panel nothin was muted and it look good i also tested my pc speakers with my ipod and the speakers are good. but no sound so i read a little more and found out that i might need new drives so i went to realtek and looked for there realtek hd audio drives for xp to get new drives. installed them rebooted my pc still no sound. so then me being a noob i went to add and remove programs and deleted everthing that had to do with realtek thinking i could go on the enternet and try from scratch. now i got two problems my ethernet jack has no drive or something now i have no sound or enternet i have screwed my self )=

if anybody can help me i would really really help full
o ps i do not have the cd from when me and my big brother built the rig )=

A:Accidentally uninstalled audio and ethernet drivers

First Realtek also do ethernet drivers so chances are you unistalled it as im guessing you have realtek ethernet.

Best optionis to do the following.

1 - Load your pc
2 - Go to control panel located at the start menu
3 - Select system in the control panel [choose classic view to make it easier to find]
4 - A new window will appear with yout system details. Look for the tab named Hardware.
5 - Next the window should change showing you at the first section Device Manager on a button click this button [if you know the other ways to get to device manage you can use them too]
6 - Device manager should now load showing you a list
7 - In the list shoud be Network Adapters click this.
8 - A list should appear showing you details of your installed parts.
9 - Copy the EXACT name of this device something like Realtek RTL Ethernet Nic or something in them lines.
10 - Go on the net on another pc[Guessing you can as you posted on this forum]
11 - Search google and you should easily find them or the auto installer from Realtek [if you actually have realtek ethernet]

SImply download the drivers or installer across on a dongle or cd or what ever means and hay presto install restart have fun.[This is not the easist way but it is pretty much 100% ***** proff meaning any one can do it this way]

My HP Pavilion DV6516TX Notebook has 32 bit Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 2 installed. I accidentally and somewhat stupidly uninstalled the 'windows installer service' known as 'msiserver' yesterday using emsisoft hijackfree (i have post that event rechecked in services.msc and that specific service is just not available and is absent from the list) and since then i cannot install anything including installing windows updates. Even system restore cannot restore the 'windows installer service' and fails to restore the system completely. Is there any simpler solution to reinstall the 'windows installer service' short of completely reinstalling windows vista home premium back from scratch. I have to inform that all the other default standard services applicable for 32 bit Windows Vista Home Premium with sp2 installed are all available in services.msc

I have the 'windows vista recovery disc' specific for my system from HP when i purchased the notebook in October 2007 but that will restore the system only to factory settings without service pack 1 and 2. There is also an equivalent recovery partition on my system's hard disk. My system already has the windows installer msiexec.exe (version 4.5) in the system32 folder of windows. The winsxs store is also there. The registry however is bereft of msiserver.

I do agree it was completely stupid of me to uninstall the windows installer service but if there is a simpler solution from you as experts p... Read more

A:Accidentally Uninstalled The 'Windows Installer Service' - How To Reinstall It?

Hi pm2397, welcome to the board.

I don't see any short cuts to it. To restore the system to original factory settings with the recovery disk HP provided seems to be the best option. Plus this will avoid any other issues might show up later. Service pack 1 and 2 with be automatically update when recovery is completed. Please remember to backup all your important data.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I admittedly know very little about hardware and all that goes along with it. With that said, I was having a problem with Vista no longer recognizing USB drives. I found and followed the solution at (USB stops working after recent Windows Update) and had success until the last step. In the device manager, I had accidentally opted to uninstall "FUJITSU MHW2160BH PL ATA Device" rather than the adjacent USB drive. I caught the mistake (unfortunately a little late) and so opted not to restart the system so that the uninstallation would not take effect.

In 'Properties' of the aforementioned ATA Device, the 'Device status' reads:

"This device is working properly.

The drivers for this device will be uninstalled when the machine is restarted. Any changes you make to this device will not be preserved.

You need to restart your computer before the changes you made to this device will take effect."
I gather that I do not want the ATA Device uninstalled: is there any way to go about cancelling or reversing that command? If I do reboot and the device is uninstalled, I am assuming that it would make my disc drive nonfunctional (again, I know nothing about this...) If that were to happen, how or could I even reinstall it? I have tried contacting Fujitsu about this but they will not be able to get back to me until at least tomorrow.

As a sidebar, I am operating Windows Vista on the HPdv2500 notebook.

Many thanks for any help in this time of confusion. I will learn... Read more

Hi,
My grandson is getting ready to enter his senior year of high school. They have been given the Aspire 3830-T TimelineX with Windows 7 Professional installed on it.

He is not supposed to download any programs on this notebook, but he did. So, he went into the control panel and uninstalled some things. Included in this was something called Babylon and also his Atheros wifi adapter. He has tried system restore and it will not work at all.

I went to look at the system recovery and it doesn't go back to the date he did this, nor before. So, I don't know how to reinstall this for him and get him back onto wireless.

PLEASE help me or he could end up suspended from school.
Thank you so very much.

Pam

A:Solved: accidentally uninstalled wifi adapter, can't reinstall HELP

You should probably bring this to the attention of the school's tech support or help desk, most high schools have at least one person in the district for tech support and troubleshooting.

I'm guessing this a school-wide image used on all the laptops like the one your grandson was given. Messing around with it any further might get him into trouble. Just ask the tech support to fix his wireless problem and leave it at that.

So I tried to roll back the driver but it said "You cannot roll back the driver for this device at this time because it is in the process of being removed" How do I stop this? Is there a process I can kill that will allow me to reinstall my driver?

It seems that my Windows 7 installation is getting worse by the day on my desktop (see specs linked to my account). It is just issue after issue it seems. Now my audio is not working on Windows 7, but on my Linux installation it is which leads me to think that a driver issue has arisen. Additionally, when I click on my SoundMAX icon, it just gives me an error saying No SoundMAX audio device detected. I do not have a dedicated sound card as my motherboard's integrated one does fine (until now, but still I think it is a software issue, not a hardware issue as it is working great with Ubuntu 10.04)

My Windows 7 Home Premium x64 installation is not a clean install. I used the upgrade option as I got Windows 7 Upgrade Option for free right before it came out when I bought my PC with the equivalent Vista. I've heard since that it was a mistake to do so and that a clean install is always better (is this true? ).

Also, another question. Would updating my BIOS (which is extremely easy with the P6T Deluxe V2 motherboard) help anything at all? I apologize if any of this post seems dumb. I'm kinda new to the extreme hardware. Sometime this month will be the 1 year mark for me upgrading from entry level (*cough* eMachines w3400 ) to enthusiast hardware.

Since no one has replied to your post, I'll suggest something. From your post, I detect that English is not your native language, so hope you can understand what I'm saying. SoundMax 3.0 is apparently quite old (2001). Updating it might solve your problem. There are LOTS of malicious sites offering downloads for SoundMax, but the best I found was at http://www.officialdrivers.net/soundmax-drivers.php. Try updating the SoundMax driver from this site and see if that solves the problem.

I woke up today and my audio drivers decided to just randomly quit on me.

I'm not sure what my sound card is but my motherboard is an Asus Maximus Extreme so I'm assuming it's a SoundMAX AD1988B.

Basically what's going on is that I'm getting a message saying "The SoundMAX audio driver did not load. You may need to reinstall SondMAX". No problem I thought so I tried to do exactly that, went into programs and uninstalled SoundMAX. A file called "DevSetup.exe" was missing but luckily I found it in the drivers pack that came from the Asus website in one of the folders. I put it in C:\Windows (it said that it wasn't found there) and proceeded to uninstall. Worked fine and I rebooted my PC like I was asked to. To my surprise however, it turns back on and the same message saying the driver did not load pops up. So I tried to just install it straight away but halfway through the installation I get an error saying "Unable to compare versions. Aborting." and I'm forced to quit.

So I went on many threads online trying to find a solution but all of them were pretty straight forward and obvious like uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them. So I downloaded Driver Sweeper and tried to remove the drivers in safe mode. However there were no SoundMAX drivers in there but there were two audio drivers, one by Creative and one by Realtek. So I basically tried to remove them which seemed to be successful (I never used the ... Read more

Anybody know where I can get a driver for the audio on my old Asus P5L-MX Motherboard.

I have Googled all over the place but no luck.

I have a paid-for Driver Boost app that had updated all the drivers since I installed Windows 7 but even that can't find one for the Soundmax.

Went to both the Asus and Soundmax sites but for the love of me can't find one.

Ran the Windows Compatability Wizard that said the audio drivers would be fine when I upgraded from Vista to Seven!

Have lost the plot here so any help appreciated.

Thanks

For a few months I've had no sound on my computer. I'm not sure if the two are related or if it was just a coincidence, but I know that it happened when I updated my graphics driver, which is integrated into my Dell DE051. I tried to roll back the graphics driver, update the audio driver, reinstall these drivers and even do a system restore. None of this made any difference and I have no idea what the problem is. I have absolutely no sound except for buzzing and cracking coming from my speakers which somehow seems to be effected by my mouse movement?... but happens constantly anyway. I have SoundMAX, and if it matters, the integrated graphics are Extreme Graphics II, whatever that is. Someone please help!

Hi,

I recently, well, it's been about a 6 months now since i've downloaded this Soundmax Driver. My original Legacy Driver somehow disappeared- probably from me screwing with the drivers- Anyway, i now have this Soundmax driver and i can't for the life of me get rid of it. I've tried just about everything. I have a older Dell PC (2001) using Windows XP Service pk 3. Did all the Maleware, antivirus, adware scans i could find and yes, that did rid me of some junk, but the Driver will not go away. When i go into remove it through the Control Panel it lets me do it, BUT, when i restart the PC, it re-installs itself.

I found this from 'SecurityStronghold.com' and it sounds like they have a grasp on the problem, except of course, they want to charge me for it. I was hoping not to pay the 39 clams that they want to charge. Please help if you can. Thank-you. Matt

From Security Stronghold:
soundmax virus intrusion method
soundmax virus copies its file(s) to your hard disk. Its typical file name is *.*. Then it creates new startup key with name soundmax virus and value *.*. You can also find it in your processes list with name *.* or soundmax virus.

Sorry for double post, but i write this in other thread too and it fit also there:
I think I have probably the same problem (chip AD1988 or 1888 I always don't remember). I have distort only in mp3 or some games/ movies. But i find some strange thing when I change in AIMP -> Equalizer -> REVERB to max: MP3 files are playing mostly ok! I installed/uninstalled all of available drivers: Microsoft when install Win 7(recognize Standart High Definition Audio?), Soundmax from ASUS site (mobo A5B - XP, VISTA 32), beta drivers to win 7 and always have that ****ty distort. Please check with Aimp re-verb maybe it is the same problem, and the solution isn't in drivers but in right codecs...

I'm afraid maybe my card is broken - but if there are other person maybe not

Of course i have Win 7 RC7100 (32 - bit).

I must also check the network on board card because - I don't have this problem from beginning - i think maybe when my network card where updated by windows update.. Do you use your on-board network card? (Card have 1 issue on this new drivers:/ it boot my computer when router connect to ISP(1 time per day) - even when I off option "This device can turn on your PC"(or something)) .

Sorry for my English

I am a computer engineer, I have just upgraded my client's machine to Windows 7 (I did the Upgrade Advisor before and W7 would install correctly and all the hardware would be fine).
Until... I installed W7, everything else works fine, except the Audio driver! I have tried everything, XP compatibility mode.

I know the drivers according to the page for the motherboard aren't for windows 7, but surely there must be some way of doing it:

It's a K8V-MX.

You probably don't have a Soundmax audio device. It may be AC 97, Creative or something else. What is the Dell's model and service tag number?

A:SoundMax IRQ prob. HELP!!!

Are you seeing these error messages on boot up.
the one should be ntkern.vxd???

Sounds like you may need to reinstall your sound drivers, do you have the disk with the drivers on.
If not what type of motherboard do you have. You should be able to get them at the manufacturers site.

My Windows XP installation has a Soundmax audio driver. Having now the ability to dual boot my computer to Windows 7 I have since learned that there is little likelihood of Soundmax producing a driver compatible with Windows 7. Windows 7 Device Manager indicates under Sound Controller what it refers to as a High Definition Audio Device and that the drivers installed are working properly but still no sound. Attempts to update these drivers report that the drivers in question are up to date. There is no indication by yellow exclamation marks that anything isnot as it shoud be in Device Manager.
Any suggestions for restoring sound would be appreciated

Right click the speaker icon in the system tray, near the time. Choose playback devices. Choose the correct one here. If you don't see it, right click in the middle and choose "Show Disabled Devices."

Hi mowh,

Welcome to the forum, If the 32bit software works for you then I see no reason to change it.
To answer your question, no, there is no noticeable difference

Go to Control Panel, in there click Sounds and Audio Devices, on the first page there should be Place volume icon in Taskbar, click the box and see if the icon does not reappear.
