[SOLVED] MSI Laptop fails to load OS on startup

Q: [SOLVED] MSI Laptop fails to load OS on startup

My MSI CR720 every so often doesnt load past the bios on startup. It runs the bios screen, then the screen goes black and two little white lines appear at the top left, normally they go away and the OS loads but for some reason they somtimes just stay there and nothing happens.
This has happened 4 times within a week, it started about 1 week ago although i cant remember what i changed to the laptop that would cause this issue other than recently i have been installing and playing many old games (age of empires, freelancer and others) which i have to run in compatability mode. My last install was Battle for Middle Earth 2.
I keep a system image backup as well as a third party backu on an external hard drive.
I have also added a partition to my hard drive by shrinking a section of it. I was running out of space on my C:OS partition so i created another and moved documents to it. (i read up about it and its possible this is what is causing my laptop to fail on startup?).
Help would be much appreciated in tracking down the issue as soon as possible as i need my laptop for my uni course! :(
Windows 7 64bit
Intel i5 M480 2.67GHz
4 GB DDR3 ram
~300GB Hard drive - partitioned into 3 parts - C:OS is 172GB, D:Data is 66.3GB and my new partition H: 48.8GB.
Ive attached a DXDiag file.

Client's computer will freeze on startup, background will be visible but with no icons or mouse cursor. I had asked her if she had any sort of Antivirus software that loads during startup. She said she had Command Antivirus installed. We tried rebooting the machine, but with the same results. I am assuming this is a problem with a startup scan of the antivirus software, but am not sure.

I am not quite sure if this is the problem, assistance would be greatly appreciated. She is running on XP currently. I am unable to capture a HJT log or specific specs list for her computer. Any help would be appreciated.

A:Startup Fails to Load Correctly

It's difficult to troubleshoot such a problem remotely; your best bet would be to try a System Restore. This can be done from Safe Mode (, if you can load that (then run msconfig > "launch system restore" -- you could also try "clean boot" troubleshooting, but this takes a lot of time and effort.

Safe Mode is available from the f8 boot menu. If Safe Mode fails to load you may try Safe Mode With Command prompt and use these directions to launch System Restore:;en-us;304449;EN-US;310353

Also if the Task Manager can be opened when this happens (ctrl-alt-del), the System Restore utility can be launched by selecting File > New task and entering:

Hello all.  First time poster here.  I am having issues getting my Toshiba to load windows.  Here is the rundown:
Successfully started computer and loaded Windows (Windows 7 64-bit btw), but noticed that certain stock applications would not work (calculator, paint, windows explorer, etc..).  Installed several Windows updates that have been waiting to install for a while (not sure what they were exactly) and shut down.  Upon attempting to restart, I was presented with the startup recovery tool.  It failed to fix the problem.
Here is what I have tried and the results:
Complete shut down with AC power and battery removed for >1 minute - Didn't fix the issue
System restore - Fails to successfully restore (tried twice using two different points)
Safe mode - Won't allow me to
Memory check - Ran, rebooted, and failed to fix the issue
After checking around, I found FRST.  Here is a scan log:
Scan result of Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST.txt) (x64) Version: 25-12-2013

Every morning Windows fails to load on the first start-up attempt of the day. Please note that after I am able to get it to load, I can turn off, turn on, or restart with no issues the rest of the day. It is literally only on the first start-up of each day. As soon as it starts to load windows it will reboot and go straight to windows recovery with an option to load windows normally or check for problems.

Each time "Start Windows Normally" is selected it will either reboot as soon as windows stats to load, BSOD, or once in a while it will load windows where it will BSOD the second anything is clicked. As soon as it BSOD, the next start-up I can load windows normally and everything will be fine rest of the day.

If I have it check for a problem it will show it is checking and then ask if I want to restore to an earlier time. As this is a fresh install, I will select "no" and it will begin to attempt a repair. If I let it run the full course it will always return a message stating nothing could be repaired. After which, I can start windows normally with no problems. I have also learned that in the mornings I can choose to repair and immediately restart computer once it begins to check for problems and it will load windows normally.

Other than that there are basically no issues. I can turn off and on rest the day without an issue. There is one other thing, I have noticed if I leave it idle for a very long time (most the day), every now and t... Read more

Both of these were related to pool_corruption. Since memtest has passed I would suspect a driver. To work out which please run driver verifier. My gut feeling is it is your Avast but no definitive info yet.

I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash... Read more

Hi all. I am trying to fix my dad's computer that has a curious problem. When the computer boots up, the network fails to load, Norton's anti-virus fails to load, the windows gui is very very sluggish (many times locking up all together when any icons are double clicked), and the shutdown/reboot options are no longer displayed under the start menu. Additionally, ctrl+alt+del fails to open a task manager. When the computer is in this state it is almost completely unresponsive to any input.I have managed to get the computer operating normally by booting into safe mode and either choosing the "load last known good configuration" option or using the system restore. (I have used both these options because neither works consistently, often requiring multiple attempts to achieve a good boot). I have discovered no particular pattern, nor been able to identify any particular restore point that works or doesn't work.My current solution has been to simply not shut down or reboot the computer after I've succeed into getting it to work, however I would like to solve the underlying problem that is causes this.I have tried numerous things, including windows updates, reloading restore points, using Spybot S&D, updating and running a virus scan, all to no avail. I have yet to use HiJack this, so I went ahead and downloaded it and ran the scan, but I could use some help deciphering the results. Well for some reason, this morning it all started.

Okay, so I load up the screen, and it says

"Windows Error Recovery"
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.

And it has options for...
Launch Startup Repair
Start Windows

I tried the Launch Startup Repair, but it gets stuck at the screen, and nothing pops up. Theres just a mouse.

And if I hit Start Windows, it all goes well, but then after it starts windows, before I get to the login screen, it quickly flashes to a blue screen with text on it for a few milliseconds, and then just goes ALL the way back to the Windows Error Recovery.

Can I get some help here?

I had the same problem as well... I was able to boot up in strictly safemode no networking and back up all my documents and then re-install windows. My restore points were not active so I couldn't go that path of attack to fix the problem. after the re install was finished and 1 round of update were done I continued to do the second round of updates from then it BSODed... luckily system restored worked this time and I am guessing one of the updates are affecting the compaq presario CQ60 models... this is very upsetting. I am also now setting up a Ubuntu partition and thinking I will use that primarily from now on... I hope my story can help you out or give someone an idea to help you out.

It did restore itself the very first time start up repair ran and booted up into the desktop. Then when the computer was turned off it never was able to boot again.

Go ahead and turn off the computer and unplug it from the wall and remove any hardware or USB devices that you might have added to it and by that I mean USB thumbdrives, printer, etc. Let's have this PC only have the essential parts (mouse/kb/onboard graphics card) attached to it so we can quickly and effectively resolve the issue. Now, with the computer unplugged from the wall, press on the power button and release after 5 seconds. Now plug it in and turn on the computer. What happens now? Recently, I've installed the Windows Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. May or may not be the problem, but ever since, Firefox has not worked properly. It will not load pages and results in the "Network Timeout" error page. What is strange is that it does load my school email account which is held server side at the university. I am currently on a VPN network, but have had no problems with firefox in the past. Also, IE works properly, but Firefox refuses to load anything but my server side email account. I do not have a firewall on my computer and I have turned off windows firewall to no avail.

I have already deleted my profile for firefox and uninstalled/reinstalled and it did not help at all.

It is a Hp Pavilion a1637c, 3GB memory, 500 GB WD Hard Drive, AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 4200. I was having problems when burning ANYTHING to DVD's or CD's. The DVD/CD RW stops responding, locking up the computer. Only thing to do is push the power button to restart. (Can burn if I restart first but have this problem!) Now when I try to restart, it appears to be fully loaded but won't open any folders on the desktop nor the internet. I am not techy at all so please let me know if I should give you any other info you require to help me find a solution ( and how to get that info as well!) I would like to save all the data within my computer but am happy to let it go if it cant be done. My priority is to get the machine work!

My ACER 5517 stopped working 2 days ago. It would freeze at the welcome screen when I started Windows normally. After few attempts it stopped doing that and gave a black screen. I hope you understand what I am trying to say as I am typing this message at work while remembering what the laptop did. I dont have a repair CD but could I buy one if thats the solution?

Thanks very much in advance for your help.

Here is the list of the problems in order of which I noticed things going awry:

1. My Firefox browser will re-direct my google searches to a new Firefox window pop-up with "google-analytics" in its address bar, but would never finish loading the new popped-up window. Firefox would also re-direct and never finish loading my google searches by opening a new tab with a "" in its address bar.

2. Microsoft Office 2010 applications don't open, instead a "DW20.exe" and a "DWWin.exe" replicates itself an infinite number of times in my processes, maxing out my CPU.

3. My anti-virus applications (Spyware Doctor, Microsoft Security Essentials, avast!, malwarebytes) won't update, and therefore won't run or scan. Firefox also won't load various anti-virus sites, such as this message board.

4. Other applications crash directly upon opening them (VLC Media Player)

Solutions that I've tried:

1. Resetting my router. I'd read somewhere online that doing this would solve the problem. It did not.

2. Trying to restore from a restore point. I opened System Restore, but the restore points were all very recent and within the timeframe of infection.

3. Un-installing Microsoft Office 2010 and re-installing. System won't let me un-install.

Not long ago (a week and a half or so) I was playing Payday 2 and my computer froze, I turned off my computer to restart it and could not load my computer past a pre-loading windows black screen where the mouse was not showing. I then tried booting my computer in various ways (safe, with and without networking etc) and they worked, however I believe one of my drivers failing to load was the reason for my "Windows Normal" startup to fail. I eventually decided through, I then looked at using the system restore point function in order to hope for some success. The system restore function when I restored to; a week ago, two weeks ago, did not seem too alleviate my issue much, it did however allow me to load windows but almost immediately after using the machine for 2-5 minutes I would have a frozen screen again. I then eventually decided to just factory reset the machine out of desperation, the factory reset eventually happened successfully and I was able to load windows and login into my new user successfully, as I learnt that I had to reinstall my graphical drivers I then attempted to put in various CD's in in order to install these drivers, eventually when I figured out the order of CD's that I needed to install for my games to load properly, I then resumed my activities on my pc (such as gaming, browsing etc).
Flash forward to the second factory reset, this one happened due to a very similar freezing problem yet again, and again I decided to turn off my computer ... Read more

I click on Agree and I immediately get a window pop up saying "iTunes has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." This is window has a button to close the window which opens the Windows Problem Reports and Solutions screen which only suggests to download iTunes from Apple's website and try again (i.e. not very helpful)

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes to no avail.

I did check the event viewer and saw the following for when I tried to open iTunes "Faulting application iTunes.exe, version, time stamp 0x4f56cf56, faulting module QuickTime.qts, version, time stamp 0x3ed3bfbd, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0013c108, process id 0x108, application start time 0x01cd0af8c1472e71."

I also tried following Apple's instructions here: Using Msconfig to troubleshoot conflicts in Windows Vista and Windows 7 to try fixing this but this also produced similar results.

I'd prefer not to reinstall Windows but I'm kind of at a loss at what to do at this point.

A:[SOLVED] iTunes fails to load Windows Vista

It seems I have figured out what was causing the issue.

After my last reboot I noticed that the Windows Theme was reverted to basic due to a problem with a program. I looked at what the window said was causing the problem.

Seems qttask.exe was corrupt. So I uninstalled and reinstalled QuickTime and now everything seems to work just fine.

Hi Guys

I work on a Service Desk at the NHS. We seem to be having a problem and no-one knows why it is happening and i'm determined to get to the bottom of it.

When ever these particular users logon to the domain, XP won't load their profile settings (email settings, desktop icons, etc.) It does seem to load some of the profile as it doesn't display the "corrupt profile" or "unable to load profile" error message but it won't load any documents or applications settings so the user gets an empty My Documents folder and an empty desktop.

I have tried recreating the profile and copying over the settings which does seem to resolve the issue for a while but eventually the problem occurs again. So far there are only 2 users having this problem. But there seems to be no fix. We've even tried reinstalling Windows on the PC but eventually the profile begins to fail.

I'd love to be the guy to show everyone how to resolve this proble.Does anyone have any ideas?

A:Solved: Windows XP profile fails to load user settings

Run eventvwr.msc and look at both the System and Application logs for repeating errors.

Have a look for the errors referenced in this article and if you see any, install the User Profile Hive Cleanup service.
MIght be worth installing even if you are not seeing those specific errors.

ok this one is annoying the crap out of me

domain network with server 2003, vista and xp workstations.

currently on my pc (1 out of 30) when ever i log in it says it cant find my profile. i know this has something to do with settings on this machine because,

win xp next to me finds and loads the profile or creates and loads it correctly

another windows vista machine loads correctly and creates correctly.

the pc im using is an acer i have uninstalled all there propriety CRAP!!!! that they install. no effect, dl new drivers for onboard lan, manually configured network card.

i can manually copy the profile down however it will not save to the server on log off.

This on really sucks *insert large amounts of cursing*

Hello more knowledgeable person than myself. I've been having trouble trying to get my computer to boot; I'd noticed a drop in performance (still unsure why) so decided to boot up in safe mode and poke around - it was not my original intention to install Advanced SystemCare 5.3.0 but somehow it happened. I ran the 'deep-care' utility and everything was working fine, my computer rebooted and performed a disk check: there weren't any errors that I can remember apart from [something along the lines of] 60 reparse files. Following this my computer restarted and Windows failed to load, restarting to show my startup repair - this isn't the first time this has happened, a similar thing occurred following previous attempts at boosting speed, though before I was able to get Windows up and running using an Ubuntu installation disk, although I still don't understand why - no need to say that it didn't work this time.

XP fails to start in any mode. XP has been reloaded from an image with no change in situation. (I was reimaging the machines anyway.) I have not yet had a successful boot since reimaging, and hence XP (mini)setup has not completed (the image was prepared using sysprep to allow it to be rolled out to multiple machines. These machines are connected to an 2003 AD Domain). Currently I'm running memtest86+ from Knoppix. Knoppix booted with only one error about not passing in proper display information. (Perhaps the graphics card is going?). The last file loaded in a safe mode bootup is mup.sys, which leads me further to believe that it's a hardware problem (and that's backed up by Google).

I've opened it up, cleaned it out with a little (make that a lot) of compressed air. Boy, was it dusty. I forgot to mention, this computer is at a high school, if you want an idea of what the users are like . It's a magnet/gifted/selective enrollment (for you Chicago people) high school though.

I am having issues with the comp, a friend built the computer for me quite sometime ago, for some reason recently I started getting random startup repair pops upon startup.

Today, it went one step further, during the startup repair, it stated could not repair due too then gave a list of error codes all of which were 0x0 until it got down to the bottom where it listed the code 0x490.

When I try to do any type of other repair nothing works. Have tried repairing via command prompt to no avail. I am able to get into safe mode. However if I restart and try to get into normal windows mode, the computer acts like it's disconnected from the monitor, I get the standard win startup chimes, however nothing to the monitor.

Checked vid card, everything seems fine there, and if that was the issue I don't think I would be able to see anything on the screen during a safemode session.

Checked for viruses using Avira, as well as ran a quick scan using malwarebytes, and ran a hyjackthis, posting log here just in case I am missing something.

I am trying to help a family member with problems with their laptop. Over the past few months it has been slowing down badly, with anything from photos to websites to excel taking minutes to load. Usually I was able to fix this by identifying the programs slowing the PC and ending them in task manager. In the worst case scenario restarting would fix it

This evening, someone tried to turn it on, and on return found it on start up repair. After waiting a while, I realized it was in the notorious start up repair infinite loop. After turning off the computer, and trying a normal boot, it loaded the windows logo, before going back to the start up failed screen. After choosing the start up repair option, the windows background appeared, but the start up repair failed to appear. Multiple restarts have also failed to have the startup repair appear. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

(Extra point, as it is a family PC, the owner is not too keen on me messing around in bios or safe mode)

Good news to you then, boot into Safe Mode

Start with this as AVG had a recent issue, perhaps you are experiencing the same

Windows 7 stuck on "starting windows" screen - includes a link to how to uninstall AVG if you can't boot into Safe Mode.

Also set the laptop to run a clean startup - Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup (keep security software checked)

You can try re-installing AVG or go for Microsoft Security Essentials. Also scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware free (you can start the free trial, easy to revert to free when trial is over).

Did you open up your laptop and physically change your hard drive or did u buy an external hard drive? because you might have done something wrong if you physically changed it or did you get someone to do it for you? Do the following: Start>control panel>sounds and audio devices and then tell us if you see your audio device in the window that opens up. If you do then go to audio and select volume and if everything goes fine a window will open up that lets you control the master volume. If you don't, go to hardware and list all of the volume/sound drivers you see there. they will be distinguished by their speaker icon on their left.

OK, so here's the deal.

Lately my volume icon has stopped showing up in the system tray on Windows startup.

I made sure that "Place volume icon in taskbar" is checked in Sounds and Audio Devices from the Control Panel. Here's the funny thing - if I uncheck it, apply, then check it again and apply again, THE ICON SHOWS UP! On startup, however, it doesn't show.

I also tried reinstalling my sound card drivers (it's an old card, Realtek AC97), but it didn't help.

It's weird, because I don't have any sound problems at all, but the icon won't show up.

Also, I'm running ESET Smart Security and for some reason I think it may be causing the problem, because after I changed some settings on it and restarted my computer, the icon permanently stopped showing.

Any help, please?

Hi, I like to believe I'm kinda tech savvy. I'll start by saying that my old 19" monitor went out and now I have a 32" dell monitor I'm using. Every time I update my video drivers to most current and then restart comp for them to take full effect, it will go through the green microsoft loading bar and then screen goes to self test, Yet there is still a windows sound and I can even log in, but no video for these parts. I can go into safe mode perfectly fine. I can even uninstall my video drivers and I'm capable of starting normal mode fine. Only when I update drivers do I have this problem. I have done alot of troubleshooting to try to get this monitor to work with my computer, searched on several different search engines for a solution to this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm seeing several error messages in the event log and I'm unsure which one is the actual crashing of the comp, so I'll be back to post that info. I am using Intel i3-530 on Intel DH55TC Motherboard. The motherboard supports RAM with highest frequency of 1333MHz. However, I was told that using a higher speed RAM wouldn't hurt the system. So, today I bought a Corsair Vengeance 4GB 1600MHz RAM. The RAM is detected in BIOS, but OSes fail to boot after that. Even Ubuntu throws Kernel panic error while booting. Could anyone help me with the BIOS settings required to run this memory stick?

A:OS fails to load when using new RAM

Hello Mycroft mate as a general rule running a higher frequency RAM stick in a machine that runs that only supports the lower one the frequency will revert to the frequency of the new stick will be maxed to what frequency your machine will support. So I think whoever told you could run a higher frequency RAM stick in the machine should have known better and to get you to check out the supported RAM speed before you went out and got the new RAM.
If possible I would get the supplier to change it for 1333 (there really isn't much to be gained from 1600) and the extra RAM will still make a difference to your machine simply because the system has more to use and therefore less bottle knecking - in other words the CPU can load more faster if it has more empty RAM available.

ie Tip a bucket of water through a 1 inch outlet funnel into another bucket and it fills quite nicely in say 5 minutes - now take a funnel with a 10 inch outlet and the second bucket fills in no time at all - the first bucket is the CPU and the second bucket the RAM the difference being there is more channels for the data to flow through even though it might be the slower speed RAM

You can see from this Intel? Desktop Board DH55TC the board only supports 1333 max - you can install a faster RAM stick but why bother?

So for example the 1600 you have put in should only run at 1333 if the machine specs say max 1333. The other problem could be that the new RAM stick is bad.

To see about RAM this might gi... Read more

I've got the above laptop that came with Win 7 and the hard drive went bad. Replaced the hard drive and am trying to load XP on it, but it gets to the part of the installation where it's starting XP and gets the blue screen of death. I can load Linus on it and Win 7 with no problems. I vaguely remember that there was a similar problem with Vista - that the type of hard drive had to be changed in the bios to load XP on a Vista computer. Is this the problem that I'm now having and is there a way to fix it?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

A:Windows Xp Fails To Load.

I have this issue every once and a while as well and can't seem to figure the problem out.
My issue is a little different though, my PC will lock up, and when I restart it'll load Windows, and then just go to a black screen like you described.
If I let it sit for 10-15 minutes it'll BSOD and restart and work fine though.
Have you tried letting it sit?

As an initial step,go into msconfig/Start up and uncheck everything except the Firewall/AV.

If the error stops, then one of those start up programs is the cause.

I have a very odd problem at the moment. As of recently my desktop fails to load anything except the wallpaper on any user.

I've recently acquired a Trojan.Vundo.H and have been attempting to get rid of it. I found it with Malwarebytes anti Mal-ware. I've attempted numerous times at deleting the files in both safe mode and regular mode, but the virus still comes back.

I then attempted to locate the files manually. There was a single .dll file and then three registry entries (I would post then but I'm in the middle of a full scan on my computer that is infect so I shall do so when that is finished). In either mode and using cmd all were unable to be deleted. I then ran a virus scan using Avira and it found the .dll file but was unable to delete it. After a system restart I went to check to see if the file was still there and it was. However to my surprise, Avira detected the infected .dll file and was able to remove it. I then rebooted my machine and noticed the .dll was gone but that still left the three registry entries. I began to scan with Malwarebytes anti Mal-ware and it said the .dll was still there, although after manually looking for the file I could not locate it.

So then I began to attempt to delete the three registry entries. I tried going in safe mode, editing the permissions, anything I could find online to do, but nothing worked. I then backed up the registry and set a system restore and then ran ccleaner.

After the restart is whe... Read more

I just came home for christmas and my parents showed me that their computer is failing to boot.

It posts normally, runs the windows splash screen, and then comes up to a black screen with a mouse cursor and hourglass, then 30 seconds later to just a mouse cursor - it can sit for an hour and never loads anything else. In safe mode, any type, it does the same thing but with the version number across the top and 'safe mode' in each corner.

In any mode there is no taskbar and no response from the start button, right clicking or ctrl+alt+del

I have tried, after making a backup of course, replacing explorer.exe and taskman.exe as well as the entire system and system32 folders(except config in system32 which is protected). I have loaded the hard drive in my own computer and it does the same thing. I ran scandisk on it while it was in my windows pc and it didn't tell me anything. The drive is divided into 3 partitions and I only scanned the C drive.

This is my parents computer and I do not have a hardware listing, it is relatively new but not high end, I can look for model numbers on anything that is relevant.

I have slaved the drive into another computer and backed up any data, I am just trying to avoid a full reformat and having to reinstall all the software.

any thoughts?

Let me begin by stating that I will donate $100 to Tech Support Guy if someone is able to *successfully* solve my problem.

First, some general info on my computer:
* Dell Latitude D510 Notebook (purcahsed in January of 2006)
* Windows XP Home - SP2
* 80GB 5400RPM HDD
* Pentium M Dothan, 1.86GHZ, 2 MEGB

Second, a little background on the events leading to the problem:
* I'm a heavy Internet user (about 16 hours per day of blogging, social media stuff, web based email, downloading music, files, video, etc.). Typically, I leave my computer continually running for several days at a time. Last week (Jan 08), I rebooted my system after about 3 days of continual use and this is what happened, and is still happening (step by step guide)

1) I turn on my computer and the computer begins to boot normally, from the Dell logo to the Windows XP logo
2) Once the Blue Welcome Screen appears, I see the following error message:
WLKeeper.exe - Application Error The Instruction at "0x00401490" referenced memory at "0x9a3412be". The memory could not be "written".
3) If I click cancel, the OS continues to load, even producing Microsoft's trademark startup sound and displaying the default background screen of the fields and mountains against a blue sky.
4) However, as the programs are loading and the explorer bar at the bottom of the screen loads, I receive a second error message stating:

For the last 2 days I cannot get my Youtube channel to load properly. It seems to stick on something called "". Is anyone else having this trouble at the moment?

As 67 people have looked at this but not one has replied, even to tell me that I'm an idiot, I feel rather ignored on what is my first outing on this forum. Perhaps my question is too banal.

Anyway, in the hope of receiving some sort of response here's a more detailed description of the problem:

I use Firefox with Noscript and Ad Block Plus.

I have a 3 mobile broadband connection (which has worked well enough since I got it) and before Friday I had no problems with Youtube.

When I try to load my channel on Youtube everything zips along nicely until it comes to "transferring data from". Then it just hangs. And Hangs. I have left it for 40 minutes or so and nothing has moved.

If I selectively disable "" in Noscript everything loads but there is no video to play.

Evidently is a perennial nuisance because it is mentioned in many other forums. Solutions suggested include putting extra lines in the hosts file (tried it. No good). Removing lines from the host file (couldn't because the line was not there) and changing DNS server.

Does anyone here have any new wheeze to suggest?

Apologies if this is in the wrong section, I am new here.

In fact, perhaps there should be a section just for and its attendant miseries.... Read more

Hello again - this place worked last time so I thought I would try again... here is my problem:I use a computer designed for a visually impaired person. The PC (running XP Professional) automatically loads JAWS For Windows (a program (JFW) which 'reads' what is going on (web pages, Word documents, keystrokes) so she can tell what is happening) which appears to run normally. HOWEVER when OPENBOOK (a Text scanning/'reading' program) is loaded, I get errors regarding SSILEXE.EXE not being able to load, which is a speech synthesizer designed to coordinate bothw JFW and OPENBOOK so they can 'talk' without both talking at once. I followed Freedom Scientific's directions (they are the makers of both these programs) to re-expand the AUTOEXEC.NT, CONFIG.NT and COMMAND.COM files from the Windos master disk to the C:\windows\system32\ directory, but the problem keeps coming back. (The only other error message I remember is something about not being able to "load a 16-bit program" or something like that.)Things I have noticed: a Sheild (looks like a MS Update shield) which says 'Downloading Updates 0%' (but I don't think it's really doing that) that pops up when I start Windows, JAWS runs fine, but trying to open OPEN BOOK takes a LONG time to load (and I get the error message about the speech synthesizer not being able to load) - if I try to load OPENBOOK while Norton Protection Center is checking the system this REALLY bogs down. My formerly cool computer continues to tick me off! I've been having a hardware problem, which I've traced to the video card slot, and am currently troubleshooting. The problem will cause my computer to completely fail to start - BIOS codes and all that. Working on it though, this isn't my question.

An unrelated problem has cropped up, though, perhaps related to problems I posted earlier...

Usually (but not always) after reboot, I'll get an error that msgina.dll failed to load. It suggests copying over a new one. I've done that, and it still fails to load on the first cold boot, but loads on reboot.

Anybody here seen this before, and can offer suggestions?

(on a side note, what do you use - besides an eraser - to clean the contacts on your AGP or PCI boards?)

A:msgina.dll fails to load

The file has something to do with Winlogon. Look HERE for some info on this. Also, a search of MSGINA on GOOGLE provided a wealth of info on why you are having your problem.

To clean contacts, I use Ethanol obtainable from a electronics shop, maybe Radio Shack It's the oils from your hands etc etc that can cause contacts to erode.

Ill try to make a long story short. Bought a Dell Precision 470 that was two years old from my ex boss. I ran the computer the whole time and it never once gave me a single problem. Upon receiving the computer i found that he ran a few registry deleting programs and because i know he doesn't know how to do anything i feared he did something wrong.

I in turn decided to format the computer. I am running a RAID 1 set-up (mirror) on two 250GB drives. I format the raid array first and rebuild the array then install OS which involves obviously formatting the hard drive and then install drivers reboot then what software pleases me.

The software i run is pretty basic, office 2003, illustrator, photoshop, itunes, mozilla, norton and a software and driver for my business which happens to be sign making. Now the only software thats different on there is the signmaking stuff. We use to run a Prog called signlab and now i use something else. apart from that the general use of the computer is about the same as it was the two years previous.

Every 4-6 weeks the computer decides to stop loading. Always after being shut down normal and properly. It will get to the Windows preloader screen where the three boxes just sit there and slide back and forth over and over essentially until i turn the box off. I can't for the life of me figure this out. the hard drive and information is completely in tact, what seems to be missing is the os software. for the longest time i was not able to g... Read more

WIN 7 X 64 fails when trying to load MS updates. I see lots of users have the same problem and have tried many of the suggestions that I found on the forum. I have Malwarebytes and MS essentials installed.

Security updates for MS.NET are successful as are Definitions for MSE, the Bing Bar updates and even updates for Office 2010 (even though it is not loaded on my computer) but none of the Security Updates for Win7 x64 based systems will load. Every bootup for weeks it says ? you have 37-40 updates? If I tell it not to update, sometimes, somehow, it does it any way and in the middle of my word processing a box pops up that is counting down to a reboot. If I don?t walk away it just shuts down in the middle of my typing.

If I ignore the ?updates available? it changes my log off box from ?shut down? to ?load updates and shut down?. If I don?t pay close attention and change the default back to ?shut down? each time I get stuck loading all the same updates that didn?t load the day before. Dirty pool.

Of course if I tell it to load updates it will finish and then wants to shut down. During shut down it spends a very long time loading ?definitions?? Then when I reboot it spends even longer trying to load updates. I must walk away. This ties my computer up for a very long time and then always has to run ?start up repair? to get the PC to boot after loading updates. I walk away again. I just recently gave my computer I had to my 15 year old sister. Iv'e had this system for four years and this has never happened to me before. The day after I gave it to her, she told me that it would not load. It gets all the way to the windows XP loading screen with the small green dots moving at the bottom then the dots just stop moving. The hard drive light is still lit up like its doing something but after an hour or so of leaving it on like that it was still frozen. I was able to load it up in safe mode and remove any adware/spyware on it and get a hijack this log. Hi, Everyone,
How are you? I have been running Windows XP, Service Pack 2 on my computer for several years now. Last night, my computer froze for the first time in over half a year, so I restarted it and nothing seemed to be wrong. After about 15 minutes of using it, it froze once again. After restarting it the second time, however, it showed me the screen that says I could choose to restart in the "Last Known Good Configuration," in "Safe Mode, or to "Start Windows Normally."

If I chose the non-Safe Mode options, it would start to load Windows (with the Windows XP screen and the blue bar running under it), and then restart itself when the blue bar runs for the third time. For the Safe Mode options, it would load partway and then restart again.

Can I do something to fix this? Is this a hard drive problem? I tried unplugging everything except for my monitor and hard drive, but the problem was still there. Please help! I am using a library computer to type this and will wait until I can find a resolution, then go home and try it.

Thank you in advance!

Okay first, what is the exact spelling of the file it is failing to load, and what is the exact text of the error message? At what point in the installation process does this happen.

One reason installs fail is because the CD is scratched, dirty, etc... Sometimes making a copy of a damaged disk will work. The copying process "fixes" the bad data before it gets burned to the new disk.

Also, a bad optical drive will mis-read and corrupt data during an install. Changing out the optical drive might fix the problem.

It had options of starting in safe mode, starting from last known configuration or starting normally. Regardless of what you press, the Windows XP screen comes up like its loading, then after a few second it goes to a blue screen saying unmountable_boot_volume. It says to remove any hardware that I recently added, but I haven't added anything. My sister had been using the computer while I was gone, and I don't know what to do now. Any ideas? Thanks.

I'm not sure where to post this, but I will start here. I had a friend bring me a Toshiba Satellite L505 that had windows 7 on it. He had a registry cleaner on it that he couldn't remove and it had frozin up the computer. I forgot the name of it now, but it started with U, I think. I have been working with this a week already and still can't get windows to re-load. I kept geting error messages and I called a friend that works on computers. He told me to connect it to my computer and get the itunes and photos off and then format the drive, which I did. When I boot the windows 7 disk it will go to the EULA and then hang up and not let me go further. Once I got to the place where it asked where I wanted to install and then no further. Just to see what would happen I tried to install windows xp from an old copy I have and after it loads files I get the BSOD. Can anyone give me some ideas of what to do now. Thanks for any help. The hard drive is a hitachi.

I have an HP Pavillion laptop model dv4-1225dx, OS is Vista 64 bit Windows. We were having problems with programs shutting down and internet problems. I ran my factory recovery disc and it completed with no problems. I installed our wireless printer, AVG 64 bit and a couple of the wifes favorites on the favorites list. shut it down. The next day the computer would not start. It tries to start and I then get an error screen asking if I want to run the repair program or start windows normally. The program just runs on a black screen. Sometimes I get a cursor in the middle of the screen. I have tried to run the recovery disc again and it loads windows files and stops. I now have a blue screen with a movable cursor. Any ideas on the problem Keysjunk

Following an update from Kodak Easy Print, my Explorer starts to load: brings up the Goggle home page, and then disconnects. Tried rebooting and restarting and still no full boot.
Should I begin by removing all of the Kodak application?
I feel like I should be able to find a process in the Task Manager that is conflicting with Explorer.
Since I am on the other computer writing this, I cannot give you any pictures of my system, unless you have suggestions on how to do that. I do have a network with three other computers available with Explorer working.

My problem is that my computer no longer is able see Windows 8.1 on bootup. I get a ?Loading OS?.? message and nothing happens.

Before this happened, I reset my computer from Windows with the intent to change a BIOS setting for the CPU fan and an Windows update was applied on reboot. Windows (apparently) installed the update and then I got to the login screen. At this point, instead of logging into Windows, I hit the reset button to make the BIOS change. After doing this, when I tried to boot again, Windows would even begin to load and I got the ?Loading OS? message immediately. Is it possible that Windows did not finish installing the update even though I was at the login screen for Windows 8.1?

I then booted from the USB flash drive with Windows 8 install files (not 8.1?I upgraded from 8 to 8.1). I went into the repair option and then I got the message that no repairs could be found or were needed. (Interestingly now when I try the repair option, the computer automatically reboots so the repair option appears to be very broken now.)

Next, I tried to see if my disks were working and they seem to be. Attached is a screenshot when I list the volumes. C: drive is a HDD data drive without Windows. D: drive appears to be some sort of system restore partition (as far as I understand). F: drive is the SSD with Windows installed on it. I can navigate through all directories fine on the SSD and the drive seems healthy. (E: drive is the USB drive.) When I unhook the data drive, all... Read more

A:Windows 8.1 Fails to Load after udpate

Okay, this appears to be a tough one--Nobody has responded yet and basic level of MS support was not helpful.

Quick questions: Does the volume drive arrangement in the picture above seem reasonable? (1) Does the Windows drive need to be volume 0 and/or drive C? The SSD (111 gigabytes) is drive C normally when Windows loads up. Would reassigning the drive to C fix the problem possibly? Can I reassign the volume? This is probably not the solution though as I would not understand why the drives would have been incorrectly reassigned in the first place.

(2) What do I need to do to get sfc to run?

i'm screwed if I don't fix this by monday.

windows starts up fine and everything is dandy, until I login. Right around the loading user settings part of the login, i get a nice little popup window that says: "The Instruction at '0x7c80ac9b' referenced memory at '0x80040119'. The memory could not be 'read'. Ok to terminate. Cancel to debug" So i hit cancel to debug and nothing is fixed. I can still use cnt-alt-delete to see all my other programs running. All except the most important one. I can see my desktop picture, but that is it. and my mouse.

worst is, this isn't my computer and if it's messup up on monday i'm screwed! help!

btw: safe mode does not help.. the same thing happens. If this helps, I just installed service pack 2 right before I rebooted and found out this is happening. so that might have something to do with it.. How do I access my restore points? and if that doesn't work, what other options could i try? is there a way to fix windows by booting something on a cd?

A:HELP! explorer.exe fails to load after I login

Try when you push ctrl alt delete, click file, new task, type cmd and click enter. In the command prompt box type sfc /scannow and let it do its thing, then restart.

Also, before you get to the xp loading screen at startup, press f8 repeatedly and select restore to last known good configuration.

You can also use your xp disk to repair windows. I have never done it before so im not sure how to get to it though...

The title says it all. This has been an ongoing problem that I've kind of been putting off to the side, and it should probably be addressed. Whenever my computer informs me that I have an update, I click the little icon and it brings up the windows update page... and I wait. Then it gives me the message "This page failed to load". any solutions?

Windows XP Media Center
Gateway GT5014 Media Center Computer – 5395
This description is fairly long. I went into as much detail as possible because this problem just came out of nowhere.

So I get on the computer one day and everything is cool. I rearrange some music, uninstall some software that I never use and surf the web. While I was adding several hundred music files to my iTunes I ran into an error that said I didn’t have access to write to the C drive. iTunes stopped importing the music halfway through at this point. I selected all my music again and tried once more, this time it worked fine. This happened a few times before I was able to get all my music in. I’m thinking that this may have something to do with my boot problems since I had never experienced this error ever before. It’s probably the only peculiar thing that happened prior to my problem so I mentioned it.

Lastly I run disc clean up and Spybot: Search & Destroy. I updated my AVG AntiVirus and avast! and restart after it asks me to. I am then confronted with this crap.

Irregardless of the way I turn the computer off, it boots back up with the screen that informs me that Windows did not load properly. And naturally it gives me 30 some odd seconds to decide if I want to start the computer normally or in a variety of safe modes. Choosing to start the computer normally or letting the time run out results in the screen flickering for a brief second... Read more

Alright I have read so many threads and posts trying to figure this one out.
I have AoK and it runs fine.
I have AoC and I can rarely get it to load. The only time it loads is if sometimes I load AoK first then immediately load AoC.
I have played around with every possibility on the compatibility mode and resolution and I still get the same result. AoK does not need to use the compatibility mode at all.

When I go to load AoC I receive,
"Age of Empires II Expansion has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

It does not notify me. It works on my laptop which has windows 8.1
I have reinstalled both AoK and AoC many times clean.
I have tried both minimal and maximum on installing the game.

Please Help!

Thank you,

I just upgraded to Windows Vista 64 over the weekend as a clean install. I ran Windows Update and got everything installed fine. However, shortly after Windows Update failed to open when I clicked the icon. I see a window start to open on the desktop and then disappear. No errors show up. If I go into the Control Panel->Security and click "Turn Automatic Updating On or Off" I receive the following error: Windows cannot find 'shell:::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-BEB064C98683}\10\::{36eef7db-88ad-4e81...\pageSettings'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

when I try to invoke the event viewer I get the following error:MMC could not create the snap-in.Name: Event ViewerCLSID: FX:{b05566ad-fe9c-7a4cbb7cb510}This is a new installation of Windows Vista Ultimate from MSDN (RTM).Any ideas how to fix this? how to re-register the snap-in?thanks

A:MMC fails to load event viewer in RTM

After typing this I found a mmc.exe.config file that was forcing the version of .net.   Renaming the file fixed my problem.
You rock!  I spent a long time trying to figure this one out.  An application (Peachtree accounting) installed the .net 1.1 framework and hosed many of my MMC snap in's including event viewer, task scheduler and IIS 7 admin.
I looked in my system32 folder and sure enough there was an mmc.exe.config file that had the supported runtime section set to "v1.1.4322".  I couldn't seem to edit the file to comment out that section, vista wouldn't let me save it, but it did let me rename it to mmc.exe.config.BAK and sure enough everything started working again.  I'm guessing these problems with mmc and snap in's in Vista are all related to apps that install the .net 1.1 framework and windows vista's inability to protect that mmc.exe.config file.
Cheers to you!

Running Vista OS and have made no changes that I am aware of. When I click the AOL icon I get the spinning circle for about 10 seconds and then nothing happens. Doesn't matter which shortcut I try, same result. Have tried reinstalling the AOL software after deleting the old and removing it from the registry, After reinstall, the welcome page loads and I'm able to sign on to AOL but after about 10 seconds the website disappears and I get the message that AOL is trying to reconnect but after clicking OK, it disappears and thats all. If I try to click on the AOL icon again, it doesn't load just like before. Have tried the obvious stuff like restarting the PC to no avail. This happened about a year ago and after several weeks it seemed to correct itself.Any ideas?Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version

Motherboard type: Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L
it has 4 memory slots (2 red and 2 yellow)

I had 2x1G sticks of this type:
DIMM3: Mushkin 991529 (996529) 1 GB DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM (5-5-5-18 @ 400 MHz) (4-4-4-12 @ 266 MHz)

And recently bought a 2GB stick:
DIMM1: Samsung M3 78T5663QZ3-CF7 2 GB DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM (6-6-6-18 @ 400 MHz) (5-5-5-15 @ 333 MHz) (4-4-4-12 @ 266 MHz)

Tried to connect all 3 together in any possible way but my PC wouldn't start or
reboot before windows gets to load.
I tried to pull out the old 2x1GB sticks and just put the new 2GB one and it
worked perfectly.
Now i installed 1GB+2GB and it works great but
i bought the new stick in order to have 4GB total, not 3.

Any way i can fix this? maybe i'm doing something wrong?
or could it be a bios problem? my bios version is F8 (2 updates behind the latest version)

A:PC fails to load with three memory sticks

All the memory sticks should be the same type and speed modules. Your speeds and manufacturers are different. Some motherboards are more sensitive to this than others

First I'd like to say that I am, by no means, a computer illiterate. I've tried most of the usual fixes for my problem, and none have worked.

I recently bought a new computer, which came with Vista. It worked, barely, for the first day (there were frequent freezes and crashes, usually requiring reboots). As an aside, every single time it crashed, the System Repair utility found/fixed several errors (not in the file system, but in the second thing it checks).

I had uninstalled the bulk of the crapware it was preloaded with, updated my graphics driver to the latest version, and installed only four programs (all games/game platforms). Since I had restarted the computer successfully several times after this, I doubt they were the culprit.

Anyway, to the main event. After finishing one of those games and exiting to the desktop, I left the room to grab a snack. When I returned, the PC was on its boot screen, having restarted (for some reason) while I was gone.

It failed to restart, and has failed in the dozens of retries over the next day. It gets past the BIOS, Gateway screen, the loading bar, and then... it just stops on a black screen. Occasionally, the mouse pointer appears (and once it flickered the green Vista screen, but immediately rebooted), but it goes no further. System Repair fails to even start, just going directly to a black screen. I can't get to a command prompt to run chkdsk or fixboot, and I've tried Safe Mode, it fails to load (stopping after loading ... Read more

since its a new computer and since your recovery disks are not working in addition to all of your other problems, your best bet would be to contact gateway since its under warranty.

Today I had a system restore done on my PC, all my data was saved and it's all in the original hard drive, apart from the files in the windows.old folder that I've moved to my new hard drive.

Anyway, I need to install all my programs again, so I tried using the iTunes application I from my program files, it didn't work. I got the message:

iTunes setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application

I then downloaded a new exe from the iTunes site, I made sure it was the correct version for Vista, and I got the same message.

A final suggestion online was to use the command prompt:

regsvr32 / i SHELL32.DLL

The only thing this changed was to give me a different error message telling me I didn't have enough physical space, which can't be true because I just had a new hard drive installed today.

Any help in getting iTunes working would be very appreciated!
