Hi frnds

I have compaq presario c700 laptop which has windows vista as inbuild OS. Due to many dll issues and corrupted directories , I changed it to windows 7, 3 months back. But my system is very slow and takes too much time. I want to change it to windows xp pro sp3.I learned from the internet that i have to disable sata native support from the BIOS. I did that, but when i try to restart ,the system doesnt ask 'press any key to continue boot....' It just goes blank screen ...nothing happens for hours. I am totally confused ....little help will be very grateful

Hello I am having issues with my Compaq Presario C700 Laptop. During use (and no specific use either). It will randomly freeze up for about a minute, screen will go blank, when it comes back on (15 seconds later) the screens resolution is set to 640x480, with 16 bit color. Can't change the display settings. Checked the drivers and the monitor shows up with the proper installed drivers. Chipset drivers are still installed correctly, VGA drivers installed correctly. Nothing looks out of the ordinary.

Dear Friends,

Hope all is well.

What is the exact replacement model and number AC Adapter for an Compaq Presario HP C700 notebook? There seems to be a larger and smaller pin configuration for this model.
From the Start>computer>right click> properties> it states the notebook as a Compaq Presario HP C700.
Specs on the bottom:
s/n:[personal informatioin removed]
p/n: KC590UA#ABA
Service tag also lists C751NR

Also, the AC adapter is either "flaky"/defective or the input on the Notebook is "flaky?" This must of been a known issue with this model due to the tiny pin size. I've owned numnerous other HP notebooks and this is the only model that has had this "flaky" adapter issue.
The issue is when you plug the adapter in sometimes it connects and the blue indicator light comes on..and sometimes if you happen to move the notebook from one place to another the light/connection is not solid. I'm assuming its the connector on the adapter and not the input in the notebook.

Any help or suggestions appreciated along with the "correct" AC adapter replacement number for this specific notebook. A source would be nice also outside of HP as an option.

Sincerely, Raphael

Hiya

The screen on my Compaq Presario C700 has gone green and fractally. It looks a bit like its eaten someones' acid. Not ideal, and is a bit migraine inducing...

It comes back to life if I tilt the screen right back, which says to me its a loose connection somewhere. Its not the motherboard, as I have checked it on an external monitor and is fine...

BUT

I have disassembled and re-assembled and its still the same, and now have a query...

Behind the screen, along with the ZIF connector that connects at the top , there is a tiny white plug on a silver cable that isnt connected to anything, and I cannot see anywhere it should live. Is this for a camera maybe, or is this maybe my problem?

Please, any advise would be massively appreciated. The disassembly manual on HPs website was completely useless, it appears to be for a different model than the one I asked for...

I look forward to your reply

Andy

Hi, Please answer following  1. how to achieve maximum upgrades for componentsCPU/ SODIMM considering configuration of model Compaq Presario C797EE mentioned at the end.  2. Why there is BIOS ver F.35 for Presario C700 when the latest offered is bios ver F.34 on HP web. Whats the difference. Where can I find both to download with release notes. Does new BIOS on C797EE model enables support processors like Intel Core 2 Duo X9000 and SODIMM PC6400 for 8GB? 3. There is testimony of successful upgrade here. A:Compaq Presario C700 maximum upgrades. CPU/SODIMM

Hello, Just letting all  know that my upgrade worked. -ProcessorUpgraded  to intel T9300 as mention. probably could support x9000 but it was much expensive not worth -Memory:I was sceptical with going more than 4GB, however, currently its running 6GB (2 X 4 ). Havent foung any errors crashes due to modules. Works perfect. .After those upgrades i installed small SSD which added for booting which gave more boost to system. .Replaced DVD-Drive with Caddy thanks to visruth, installed with 1TBhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Hardware-Upgrades-Replacements/Dimension-of-DVD-CD-used-in-Compaq-Presario-C700/m-p/4926179 . Battery replaced with 12 cells Conclusion:This 8 year unit is demonstrating booting, processing and loading speeds which could be compared to couple of year old machines, 6 Gigs of working space memory which can hold heavy programs witout using pagefile (actually disabled) and about Tera byte storage to store every thing needed made it become mordern general use laptop. Only thing which doesnt cope with it is graphics card. Besides that all is fine, infact it is running more cooler than before. Thankyou for your advise

Hi, I read through the posting and did not see a definitive answer for why my laptop boots to six screens. I am a missionary teacher in Roatan, Honduras and I took it to a tech shop who said it was the inverter but he did not test it and the color/brightness looks fine. I don't want to spend money on an inverter unless it is the problem.

Is there a solution? I tried safe mode on Vista but could not get to the screens indicated. Please help if you know a solution!

I've been having several problems with this laptop recently. Firstly, its a Compaq Presario C700 with Windows Vista on it and 1gb of RAM. My first issue was with the DVD/CD room drive (which I still can't get fixed). Then, I restored the computer back to it's factory settings because the person my friend who owned this computer before me had a lot of adware and malware junk on it. After that, I was still having an issue with the D drive. For some reason, it was full but the computer was restored to factory settings. So, therefore, I decided to just reformat the drive because I figured that it was causing problems with the computer's performance. However, the computer still had performance problems such as the Windows Aveo Aero theme wouldn't load properly. That was all fine and dandy. As long as the computer was still running. I would get it all fixed as soon as I got the time and money. Now, all of a sudden, I can't even get the computer past the startup "Compaq" loading screen. This all happened today when firefox all of a sudden updated itself (which was weird to me) then when it loaded again a screen popped up asked me to download or cancel "system.exe". Before doing so, I researched and saw several claims up it being a virus. However, the every time I kept clicking cancel, it kept popping up. So I finally pressed "install" which was probably dumb. 5 minutes later the computer shutdown firefox again and all this windows kept popping up (whic... Read more

Boot into the BIOS (F10 at Compaq logo) and check to see if the hard drive is recognized.

While in the System Setup menu check the boot options and make sure hard drive is selected before Network boot.

You may have a failed hard drive that is not being detected in the boot order.

Hi,

I turned on my laptop this morning to find that the touch pad doesn't work. This wasn't really a problem as I generally use a plug-in mouse, however, upon restarting my computer again, my keyboard also doesn't work.

I'm running Vista 32 bit and I have no idea what to do.

Does this sound like a software problem or a hardware problem? Is it possible that I have a virus that is causing this?

Would my best solution be to re-install Vista?

I have everything backed up so I don't mind doing that, however, I don't know how. When I bought my laptop Vista was pre-installed so I don't have the CD.

I'd be very appreciative to any help you guys could offer!

Hey guys, need your help. I own a Compaq Presario CQ62-230E1. Am using windows 7 4bit .Last September the motherboard crashed and I had to take it to be replaced. When it was repaired, I took went and collected it. At first I noticed that when I connected the Ethernet cable to the laptop there was no internet connection. Whenever I ran diagnostics it told me same issue, local are network doesn?t have a valid ip configuration. I tried connecting via wifi and it was working properly the only problem was that the modem had to be close to the laptop, like literally a few centimeters away. Recently as of one week ago it totally stopped picking up wifi from the ISP modem no matter how close it is returning the error wireless access; problem with adapter. The irony is when I try to connect the laptop to the internet via my phone whether it is tethering or hotspot it connects to the internet. My friend who is a computer expert thought it was a software issue but we downloaded and installed all the necessary drivers. We even went as far as to format local disk C just to be sure and ensure all the junk is chucked. He guesses that the problem is hardware suggesting that when they replaced the motherboard they must have interfered with the wifi /Ethernet boad. Any help will be highly appreciated. Alvaro

I need serious help here...it's driving me crazy! You see, I have some files on my laptop that I would like to share to my desktop. Reason why is because I hate my laptop screen and would like to view these on my desktop's monitor (I know that I can just hook up the monitor to the laptop but my computer illiterate parents aren't allowing me to do that)...moving on...

I'm running Vista Home Premium SP1 (on both computers). I've done the whole chabang with Network and Sharing Center. I've turned on file sharing, network discovery, printer sharing, public folder sharing, and more. But my desktop can't connect to my laptop!!! The desktop is connected to my router through Ethernet and my laptop is connected through wireless. I don't have wireless at all on the desktop, so how can I get these to connect?

One thing that did work was going into Windows Firewall and enabling TCP/IP port 445. But that shared my whole Users directory with the desktop, which is not what I wanted. It stopped working, too. Just randomly stopped working.

Your parents won't let you disconnect a monitor cable, but they have no problem with you configuring a network that could open the computer up to viruses, connection problems, and all sorts of other issues? No parents are that computer illiterate.

Are you using the "Installation Buddy"? If so, exactly how far do you get?

By the way unless this is an old computer about to be junked I suggest you invest in an ethernet adapter. Your networking will be better and more reliable.

I am wanting to find out some information on RAM for my HP Presario Notebook C700. It looks like the maximum RAM that it accepts is 4GB (DDR 667 Mhz). If I install 2 times 2GB Modules does that mean that the system will only acknowledge 3BG and not 4GB. I only bought one 2GB module to put in to replace the 2 * 512GB Modules are currently in it. If I put the 2GB module in will that work fine by itself on one bank. I read somewhere that I should make both sides equal and install either 2 1GB Modules or 2 2GB Modules. I hope I am making sense. Advice would be helpful.

A:RAM For a HP Notebook Presario C700

If you have a 32bit OS then it can only read 3.25GB of RAM do to limitations of the OS. If you have a 64bit OS your system can read 8GB or more of RAM depending on the hardware.

The benifits of putting in 2 sticks or RAM as opposed to a single stick is that 2 sticks can run in dual channel mode which speeds up the RAM. Of course your computer and RAM have to be dual channel as well and 99% of hardware is.

Hi: You can upgrade to a 64 bit operating system as your hardware can support it. However, I wouldn't do it if I were you as your PC can only take a maximum of 2 GB of memory. That must be a BIOS limitation as the chipset in your PC can recognize up to 8 GB of memory with a 64 bit OS.. A 64 bit OS needs more memory to run than a 32 bit OS does, so there would be no benefit to you installing a 64 bit OS with only 2 GB of memory. IMO, your performance would actually suffer a little over a 32 bit OS running 2 GB of memory. There would be no difficulty installing a 64 ibt OS as your PC's support page has 64 bit drivers available. Most if not all of the Vista 64 drivers will work with W7. My rule of thumb is to never install a 64 bit OS unless you have at least 4 GB of memory installed. Paul

Hey guys i'm looking to upgrade the operating system on my Presario c700 notebook from Vista Home Basic to Windows 7. From what i've seen it's a lot lighter on resources and in the next couple of months i want to upgrade my RAM.

Would Windows 7 Ultimate, Home premium, Professional, etc. be more suitable? 32 bit or 64 bit?
How much RAM would i be able to upgrade to? I've heard 2GB and +4GB from different sources.

HP Compaq Presario c763TU
Intel Celeron 550 2.0 GHz
1GB RAM
Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family
Windows Vista Home Basic 6.0

I'm having a problem with a laptop, the CD drive isn't being recognised. There is no section for CD / DVD drives in device manager.

The computer is running Vista & had viruses, which I (think) I removed with Malwarebytes & also cleaned up with CCleaner & Spybot

Since removing all these I gave my friend his laptop back, used the drive to play some games & now it won't detect it again.

I am unsure what to do? The model is HP / Compaq Presario C700 (C742EM)

Hello all,

Yes I have keyboard driver issues, but i have managed to type this up!.. copied and pasted each character using a mouse!.. lol.

Just kidding, but I know the keyboard works, checked in DOS on startup. its fine. had Vista previously, but got peed off with it and decided to install W7, but in frenzy, i have formatted and installed W7, and for some strange reason, I cannot find the damn keyboard driver, checked HP site. no luck!.

Some general direction would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks all, ah, by the way, the mousepad on the lappy is not working either. I suspect it is linked to keyboard.. Cheers..

I have a Presario C700 with Windows Vista Home Premium. I have 2 issues:
1 the touchpad often stops allowing me to scroll and I have to tap it multiple times to make it click on something

2 even more annoying is that when I'm typing the cursor will skip to a random place on the page and keys get typed that I know I didn't touch. At first I thought it was an overly sensitive keyboard, but then I had a friend watch me to see if I was touching other keys and I wasn't!

A:presario c700 keyboard randomly skips

p 18:
1. boot to safe mode by tapping the F8 key once a second during the boot process. Use the up / down arrow keys to high light / select "safe mode". Press "enter".
Does the problem exist?

2. Some of are touch pad challenged.

3. On my IBM laptop, the left click button has begun to inconsistently respond. I think it is wearing out. A similar issue could be occurring w/ your CPQ lappy.

4. Tiny gophers?
What, if anything, have you used to clean your keyboard & touch pad. Use ONLY that which is recommended by CPQ.

I'm having trouble getting on line with my networked router. When I check my IP address it comes up with something really out of line: like it's supposed to be 192.xxx.x.x and it comes up with 169.254.xx.xxx. That's with the auto detect set to on. Everything seemed to be working fine until I set the computer back to an earlier set point. Please help if you can.

Hey guys,

The other day I was on my laptop and pulled out the ac power cord, then the whole thing turned off. There was heaps of battery left so this shouldn't have happened. I thought it might be my cord since its old and frayed ALOT so brought a new one but the laptop won't turn on. It doesn't have the power light and doesn't do anything when I press the power button.

Any ideas?

Thanks! Anita

I have a Compaq Laptop model c700 series running Vista Basic. The laptop is approximately 4 months old but I happen to have dropped it about 1 month ago from a distance of about 2.5 feet it chipped a piece of the front bezel but that I am not worried about a little super glue can fix that. The problem I am having is when i start it up it will run fine for about 20-35 min then it will freeze up requiring a reboot after the reboot it will run for about 35-45 min and freeze up. Then it will restart a thnird time and do the same thing ,but on the fourth restart it used to run completely normal no reboot,no freeze just perfectly fine this is plugged up or on battery power it does not matter. Now it freezes and requires reboot no matter how many times I restart it. Could someone please help me find a solution to this laptop before it becomes a pile of finely crushed parts. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

A:Compaq Laptop c700 need help

It should still be under warranty. I know that you dropped it but it sounds like a cooling fan or 2 broke and as soon as it heats up it freezes. You will most likely have to send it back to get fixed unless you are comfortable taking apart a laptop.

A:factory restore on compaq c700?

I'd guess you can't, since you moved from Vista to Win 7. The OEM restore partition may have been deleted or rendered useless.

Maybe you can order recovery disks from HP/Compaq? Probably for a fee, if at all.

Why not reinstall Win 7 rather than go back to Vista?

Beyond that, 12 percent of new batteries arrive dead or go dead quickly...

Hi

I have been given an old(ish) Compaq Presario C700 Notebook PC by a friend and whilst it appears to connect to my Belkin wireless router it cannot connect to the internet. My wireless network is located by the notebook but there is a red X between the "unidentified network" and the internet symbol.

I have tried to connect before and after reformatting the notebook but to no avail. I have looked at a number of threads here and tried a few things suggested for other people with a similar issue but nothing works. I have restarted the router numerous times as well but still no luck.

The PC I am using to post this is connected via the same router and is working fine so what am I doing wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also not sure how to network the notebook and this PC as well.

Cheers T

Amazingly I could still locate the Service manual online: Manual See p. 87. I have a Compaq Presario C700 which is giving me the following error:
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key.

I'm a technical user and have been able to fix just about anything, until now. I've done some research, and I've found that this Compaq C700 is a terrible computer that just can't be fixed. They're probably right.

I've tried to boot off an external optical drive, but this failed to load the system. I've checked the boot order is correct and that the optical drive was enabled in the BIOS, but this still did not allow me to boot from the optical drive. I knew that it recognized a system there because it had an underscore, which meant it was trying to boot from the disk, but sadly, no luck.

As for the hard drive, I've replaced it with a spare, couldn't install Win7 on it directly from the laptop, so I installed it on my desktop system, then put it back in. Still, the message. No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key.

I've verified every available BIOS setting to the last detail. The only thing I could think of and haven't yet tried is to try to see if there's a CMOS battery anywhere and disconnect that, but I'm not sure where that could be on a laptop, and taking this thing apart is practically impossible.

I know the CPU and system board and everything else seems to be in working order, it's just that it can't seem to work off of a Windows 7 disc or installation. A red flag for me was when I went into the BIOS (InsydeH20)... Read more

Hi,

I have a Compaq Presario C300 notebook. I have excellent strength connection to the wireless connection at home (and if I try to plug in the cable, the wired connection works too). However, when I open a browser (IE and Firefox), it does not connect and comes with the standard error message of "...site could be temporarily busy, ...check your computer's network connection,......if your computer's network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."

I tried reinstalling the network driver, also the firewall settings but no luck. I have no clue how to solve this problem because my other laptop and PC are working perfectly fine and so I feel it is THIS laptop's problem.

Thanks in advance,

My compaq presario cq56 laptop has been connected, via wireless, to our home broadband network for ages, but suddenly it's not working. A yellow triangle with an exclamation mark has appeared over the bars of the internet symbol in the system tray, and it tells me it's connected, but that there's no internet access.
All the other computers on the network are fine (one laptop, connected wirelessly,. and a desktop connected via cable). I have called TalkTalk and they have checked the connection, concluding that its fine. I have also been in contact with the manufacturer of our router (Belkin). After changing lots of settings around, they told me it must be an issue with the network adapter (?) on my laptop. I can't actually find any support from Compaq/HP themselves. Please help!!

Good morning

I dont know if anyone can help. I have recently upgraded my Compaq C700 from Vista Home Basic to Vista Business due to several issues with slow processing speed and issues with booting. Vista Businesss seems to be working fine and a vast improvement, however, unfortunately the wireless connection no longer works.

The button on the keyboard remains orange. I have looked under device manager and under networks it is showing two unknown devices. On wireless network search, it is showing on broadband LAN connections and no wireless options. If I click on wireless options, I get the message that the wireless adapter is not installed and configured.

I have downloaded a programme called Driver Robot which claims to note that the wireless adapter is missing and provides the driver. However, this does not seem to install on download.

Try a power drain.
1. Unplug power cord
2. Hold power button in for 60 seconds or more then let go
3. Plug in power cord
4. turn on the power and try to boot to setup (BIOS)

If it enters the BIOS then you should be able to just press F5 to reset to defaults and then F10 to save and exit. The PC should work now.

However, if after the power drain you still can not get in the BIOS than there is a MAJOR problem which would require some type of repair.

-i get black screened(iduno if thats the term) but what happens is i'll be working on some files and then out of nowhere my monitor goes black, the computer and monitor stay on, but the monitor goes into some sort of standby mode thing where the power light flashes

-i also ocassionally have trouble rebooting one of my other computers and whenever it gives me a problem the screen goes black and there's a green line that goes across the top of the monitor

iv'e tried spy ware removing programs/anti viruses/fire walls none of them seem to be working

any help would be greatly apprecieated

A:Solved: blue screens black screens green screens

The issues sound a bit like a hardware failure, the blue STOP screen could be hardware or software.

The Black screen sounds like the PC has died, but the power supply continues to run. This could well be hardware.

Both issues could be something like overheating of the CPU (are all fans running, is the CPU fan dust clogged - shouldnt be if it's "new")?

If it's "new" and under warranty, take it back.

It would have helped to know if it was a desktop or laptop though.

Okay, I read six of your most recent minidumps contained in your first Zip file and all four in your second Zip file.

Here are the ones that stand out because they give a probable cause.

Two errors are 0x00000050: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
Requested data was not in memory. An invalid system memory address was referenced. Defective memory (including main memory, L2 RAM cache, video RAM) or incompatible software (including remote control and antivirus software) might cause this Stop message, as may other hardware problems (e.g., incorrect SCSI termination or a flawed PCI card).

The driver cited in both is klim6.sys which belongs to Kaspersky.

Four errors are 0x0000001E: KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
The Windows kernel detected an illegal or unknown processor instruction. A Stop 0x1E condition can be caused by invalid memory and access violations similar to those that generate Stop 0xA errors.

0xA errors are caused by either hardware or drivers attempting to address an IRQ Level they have no business doing.

In all four the same Kaspersky driver kl1.sys was cited as the probable cause of your system crashes.

* I suggest updating Kaspersky and/or doing a search on their forums to see what the community has to say.

By the way, nice PC.

* Get back to us with any results.

Hi,

My computer got infected with the koobface several weeks ago. I posted in the 'Am I infected? What do I do?' section and the Hijackthis logs section and we have used malwarebytes to remove the infected files, restored windows to the last known good configuration and used the XP system restore feature and updated security.

Unfortunately none of this has worked. After using the internet (through both IE and Firefox) for around 5 mins the window freezes so I have to close it down. My computer then blue screens and I receive the ***STOP: 0x0000000A message. After logging back on I receive the following message 'loading model error. load default model?'. If I log off before internet freezes I get this message 'the instruction at 0x000f2fc0 referenced memory at 0x000f2f0. The memory could not be written. Click ok to terminate the program. Click cancel to debug the program'.

The last time my computer blue screened I received an error report after logging back on. I thought the info could be of help. Please find all of the details below:

I'm beginning with this link because it is related to this previous issue. Its still the same computer with the same general problems. However, I discovered that by ensuring that windows media player was constantly playing music, the computer operates fast and smoothly for as long as I need it to (sometimes longer than 24 hours), albeit with the fan running full speed and flooding the house with its noise. All has been well until the other day I needed to burn some cds and reconnected the cdrom. Since then, its been subject to occasional freezes, mostly when left to sit when I leave the house on a whim. I've noticed that I sometimes return to a black screen, but erroneously attributed it to my computers failed attempts to hibernate (even though that option is disabled). Anyway, its been working wonderfully anyway when I've needed to use it. However, today I was doing a little basic browsing, only about three tabs open of an automotive website I frequently read. The screen randomly went all white while loading a page, and the computer froze up. My only option when it does that is to do a hard restart, so I did. I decided to disconnect my cdrom again. The computer then booted up normally, showed my desktop and loaded all icons and everything, but before everything was up and running, the whole screen went black and it froze. Then I got this computers very first "blue ... Read more

OK, I have read you last thread and sounds like you made some progress.

Lets see the details of the Blue Screen, follow this guide to attach it to your next post.

First locate your minidump files, they are usually found by clicking on your C: drive, in Windows Explorer, then click on Windows to view the contents. If your operating system is installed under a different drive letter then look there. They should be stored under a file called minidump. The files will have a .dmp extension.
Zip up at least 6 of the most recent files into one zip folder and save on your desktop (if there are less then just zip up what you have).
NOTE To zip up a file in Windows (all versions). Right-click the file or folder, click on Send To, and then click Compressed (zipped) Folder and save it to your desktop.
Open Windows Explorer, click on Desktop in the left column so you can see the zip file. In the left column click on C: > Windows > Minidump and then drag & drop any additional .dmp files into the zip folder.

• Below the Message Box click on Go Advanced. Then scroll down until you see a button, Manage Attachments. Click on that and a new window opens.
• Click on the Browse button, find the zip folder you made earlier and doubleclick on it.
• Now click on the Upload button. When done, click on the Close this window button at the bottom of the page.
• Enter your message-text in the message box, then click on Submit Message/Reply.Click to... Read more

About two months ago, my sister clicked a link in an AIM message that apparently downloaded some kind of trojan onto our computer. Since then, Internet Explorer freezes up and stops responding, usually before we even have a chance to type a web address in the address bar. Also, the computer periodically stops and gives us a blue screen that says something along the lines of "Your PC has detected a serious error" and says "Technical Information: ***STOP: 0x00008086 (0x00000000 0x00000000 0x00000000 0x00000000)" I've used McAfee virusscan and Prevx1, and each has found many things to get rid of, but there is always something new popping up. I have always gotten random blue screen crashes, seems like one every 2-4 days.
WhoCrashed report used to point to wireles drivers. Recently found updated drivers and crash no longer points to the wireless drivers
My system:
HP DV-5 AMD Turion X2 laptop
Windows 7 Ultimate X64 SP1
Full retail install with latest updates
Installed 2009
BSOD occurred while using Internet Explorer with multiple tabs open.

MemTest passes.

Driver Verifier bluescreens instantly, too fast to read, nothing recorde in event log, no crash dump. I have to do a system recovery/restore to reboot afterwards. The restore seems to have removed the most current crash dump that was generated today so I can't include it but WhoCrashed indicated the crash was related to ntoskrnl.exe and MountMgr.sys this time.
Since driver Verifier won't run what should my next step be?

Hi,

I have recently had this problem with my computer: I have gotten blue screens of death that say bad_pool_header when I start up my computer and was only able to run in safe mode. Now however, I can run my computer regularly, but when I start my computer, an internet explorer window will pop up and a website www.clickleg.org will come up with random search results. Also, when I use google in firefox for my searches and I click on a link, they get redirected to websites such as webhostingfrance.com

I have used McAfee's On Demand Scans, Super Antispyware, and Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware to try to counter the problem, but they have not seemed to help much, and they now don't find anything outside of tracking cookies. I have also used system restores, CCleaner, and recently just tried Sophos Anti rootkit but it hasn't remedied the problem either.

Hi guys,
I am having a mixture of problems that include:
- When I open Google in IE, Firefox or Chrome and do a search, half the links redirect me to random websites that have nothing to do with the search criteria.
- Sometimes my browser will open by itself or open a new page by itself. The page is typically the same sort as the misdirected link mentioned above.
- I have had a number of blue screens but cant remember what the message was. I'll write it down next time.
- Within 30-60 minutes of being connected to the internet, my laptop will usually produce a message saying something about on of the services and then restarts. This doesn't happen when I am offline.

I am running Vista and have downloaded regular updates. I have run numerous scans with Spybot, Trend Micro Housecall, SuperAntiSpyware, AVG, Malware Bytes with no malicious software found. On two occasions, the Malware Bytes scan seemed to cause the computer to restart.

I appreciate any help you can give me.
Kind Regards,

Adam.

Not even sure where to begin with my system. First off, let me say that I've followed all steps in the 'before you post' thread. Only thing I couldn't do was update Windows (I do have a legit copy). When trying to, I get a page that says 'Windows update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested page'.

Someone recently installed Smart Keystroke Recorder on my system. I need to get that completely off. :( Main issues I'm having are constant reboots, blue screens, freezes, internet connectivity is hit or miss, firewall stops working randomly, screen flickers, on and on. Some one please please help. Thanks in advance!

Hello!

The wonderful Broni had been helping me with some rather frustrating and mind-boggling (at least to me) issues on my laptop, and he recomended I make a post here.

This is the original post: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic448185.html

Originally I was having problems with bluescreens and sluggishness, and some issues connecting to google programs.

After fixing a file with tdsskiller, the sluggishness seems to have gone away or at least lessened greatly, and I seem to be able to connect to the google programs.

However, since starting my work with Broni, I've occasionally been getting new tabs opening in firefox of thier own accord, containing annoying advertisments and whatnot, as well as some issues with internet connectivity.

The internet connectivity issues started after running defogger in preperation to make this post.
Since after restarting my laptop the internet will connect for a minute or two before dropping irrepairably, I'm attributing this to a virus/malware issue. Other machines on my network are connecting fine, and resetting the router doesn't seem to help.

I have a log from gmer, but I could not download dss on another computer (which I am using to post, as well). Is there another link that I could try perhaps?

Thank you in advance for your help.

I have purchased a Compaq Presario 600 with an Athlon XP 2200+ processor. I do not have a copy of Windows XP to wipe it with. Is there any way with the installed XP that I can refresh this system and remove data frome previous owners? Or Can I load Win 98?

A:Compaq Presario 600 ??

Compaqs usually have a hidden partition with all the factory loaded software on it in an image format. As long as it does and you can figure out how to access it you could probable do that - but you almost likely need the XP Product key and may need to reactivate XP after the recovery. XP can only be install on one machine at a time - so if they are still using it you are out of luck.

Watch the boot up for any recovery messages or take a trip to www.Compaq.com and look up the info for your make/model.

I friend of mine purchased this Presario in 2004. She hasn't had internet since about 2006, so she hasn't had any of the updates since then. I brought her tower home with me since I have internet to load her updates. We're trying to get it internet ready. When I brought it home last week nothing would open. So yesterday she gave me the system recovery disc. I started with the Standard Recovery, but there were too many files that it couldn't recover. So I then decided to do a full recovery. After the full recovery it was rebooting and it told me that not all the system could reload and I couldn't hit okaybecause it wouldn't read / acknowledge my mouse. So, I unhooked her computer and rehooked mine to see what her alternatives were. I found a website, they wanted to know all the things it wouldn't oload. All I can remember is that it was things that could me downloaded later like: Norton, AOL, Adobe, MSN, and QuickTime.

So, I unhoked mine and rehooked her's up (and booted up my laptop). When her's came back up it's saying: NTLDR is missing Pres Control + Alt +Delete to Restart

My question for you is there anyway I can save her conputer? She doesn't have a lot of funds, being a singe mother of a 7 yr old and I'm just a good friend trying to help her out.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide

The pc also would have a hard time starting up after it was in idle. We would do a hard start and for a while that worked. Now when I try to start it it turns on but the monitor says no vga/dvi input. There is also none of the preverable beeps that are supposed to be there so in short (well long)the motherboard is fried? So do I use it as a planter in the yard or is there a way to get it up and running. It runs on XP media center it has a micro ATX form factor motherboard it is also an AMD 64 Anthlon. ram is 256 mb 1Rx16 pc 4200 ddr2 533 mhz. And I'm back again giving you another annoying dilemma to help me with.

Okay, the problems are on my main pc. The specs are below:

Windows 7 Ult. 64bit
Gigabyte 880GA-UD3H
AMD Phenom II X6 1100T
4GB DDR3 PNY RAM
500GB Seagate HDD
Dynex 400 Watt Power Supply

*all parts were bought BRAND NEW

These problems ONLY occur when the pc boots up for the first time (after I shut it down at night and start it in the morning).

Every now and then, the pc will boot up to the desktop. Everything looks normal. All the taskbar icons load, internet connection, everything. However, when I begin to use an application, primarily firefox, to browse the web, the pc will begin to stutter. The cursor movements become jagged and in about 5 seconds, the screen goes black. The pc fans are still on, but the hard drive light is off. Once, the screen went to a sky blue color instead of black, but the outcome was the same.

The only way out is to reset the pc. After that, everything runs fine. I can do anything to the pc and it never crashes. This problem only occurs when the pc first initializes.

Another issue is random blue screens. I've encountered about 4-5 in the past two months. When I start my morning, I boot my pc and walk out to get my coffee, leaving it to idle. Sometimes when I come back, a BSOD is waiting for me. Each time it's been the error code 0xF4, which doesn't do me a whole lot of good because that tells me it's a problem with hardware or software drivers. I c... Read more

How did you calculate PSU power? Seems a bit low...?

Could you please upload as instructed here even though you don't have dumps?

My pc specs are below:

Check the system Properties \ Startup and Recovery. Is the wright debug info set to Small Memory dump or Kernel Memory dump. You need it set to Small Memory dump to have a minidump log file in C:\Windows\minidump It would be best to have that file to see whats going on.

Is it this Presario 1277 notebook: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=95012& ?

If so try reinstalling the Trident Display Driver from the available downloads.

I have a Compaq Presario 1200 laptop that won't come out of hibernation. With either the battery or A/C cable the power on light on the keyboard will come on after the power switch is pressed and a couple of seconds of clicks from the vicinity of the 3 1/2 floppy or the hard drive area but nothing else - no beeps or anything on the screen.
I talked to Tech support (I am out of warranty) and tried their suggestions - removing all power and pressing the power button and then reinserting the battery; turning it off, removing power for 24 hours and then turning it back on.
One suggestion I had from another source was to remove the CMOS battery but I can not figure out how to access that part of the case. I can get to the hard drive but not the battery.
Any suggestions or directions on removing the CMOS battery?
