Laptop constantly hangs, freezes, help?!

Q: Laptop constantly hangs, freezes, help?!

Hey

I've had the same problem for a while now, and is extremely annoying

My laptop constantly hangs, freezes etc when on chrome, firefox etc and when playing videos on vlc from the hard drive, it constantly stutters buffers etc. However I noticed when playing the same video from an external hard drive, the video plays fine. This leads me to believe its a hard drive problem.

I have tried restoring my computer and reinstalling windows etc, but the problem keeps coming.

anyone able to help?

thanks

John

A: Laptop constantly hangs, freezes, help?!

Hello,

Freezing, in general, is a hardware issue and usually heat related. Software issues usually throw error messages.

1) How old is the computer? Do you clean it regularly? clear the vents and fans etc.
2) Are your video card drivers updated?

I`ve tried everything from reinstalling, changing the version of FireFox and going to safe mode but it still freezes and hangs for me.
Sometimes it hangs for a few seconds and others for a few minutes, it happens constantly.

Any help would be most welcome because i don`t really want to change browsers.

I`ve done all the malware checks with MalwareBytes, SuperAntispyware and Bitdefender 2011 and it found nothing.

Hello,

I have been having trouble for a couple weeks with Firefox. Every so often Firefox will hang, and cause a total system freeze for a short period of time. Sometimes this can cause explorer to crash too, other times if for example I was watching a YouTube video or a Twitch stream, I get a message saying the shockwave plugin is not responding. This would then again cause an entire system lock up. I would then begin to attempt to open up task manager with the Ctrl+Shift+Esc combination. On my computer it would always instantaneously open up. During these experiences it does not show up at all. So I would then attempt to right click the taskbar to open Task Manager from the options there. The taskbar (as I'm assuming explorer was still hung) would not respond for a couple minutes until finally the menu pops up. I would then select Task Manager. After a short while (maybe 30 seconds) Task Manager would finally show up. It is here that I would see that there are two Task Manager processes. So I would attempt to kill one. I would select the one that was ~100 kb (which I'm assuming is the one that hasn't shown up yet as the other one had ~4000kb). This would be in vain as attempting to kill most processes was also in vain. So I started a round of anti virus and malware checks. I originally started with an Avast! boot time scan. I received an error of 42111. I looked into this and it seems as though Avast! was failing to scan an archived file. After this comp... Read more

Hello,

I have been having some issues for the last couple of days with my computer. I first experienced trouble with Firefox while watch a simple Twitch Stream. For no reason (as the computer was completely idle save the stream) I received a message saying Shockwave Player (or some script on the page) stopped responding. The popup gave me the option to wait for the script to respond, or to kill it. I attempted to kill it, by opening up Task Manager. This took maybe 3 minutes to open up, while in the process hung my entire system the whole time, and then led to Firefox itself to completely lock up. As well, when attempting to open up Task Manager in the first place, if at first the window did not show up I would attempt to open it again. The first time by using the Ctrl, Shift, Escape combination, and when that was unsuccessful (as it normally pops up instantly), I would thusly right click the taskbar to open it that way. By doing this method it would take minutes for the popup from the taskbar itself to showup. After finally getting Task Manager open, I would see two different Task Manager processes. One at roughly 4k kilobytes of memory, while the other ~100. As someone with a tiny bit of OCD I would close the smaller kilobyte one by right clicking it to kill the process from the popup menu. Right clicking the process would give me no window, nor would hitting kill process from the tab on the Task... hi All,

I am using an old laptop purchased in Jan 2010 with Windows 7 home basic installed on it. It was functioning properly about 2 months back and i then noticed that the browser started taking more time to load. Later the browser started hanging intermittently and now even my usual routine items take time to respond and function (opening folders/playing videos etc)

my antivirus is a legal copy and its up to date. can anyone please help me in digging through the issue? This may be happening because my laptop is just old enough but I dont want to conclude that without enough debugging.

thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Hello. I posted about a month ago when my 13-month-old Dell Inspiron N4110 was stuck in a startup repair loop. It needed a new hard drive, which I installed myself, and everything worked great for a couple weeks. Then the constant freezing started. I thought it was Firefox, since that was what I was using most often, but it turned out that *everything* would eventually start hanging--Word, Task Manager, iTunes; it even froze on shutdown a couple times. I tried disabling and reinstalling all the plugins in Firefox, I ran virus scans and diagnostics and troubleshooters and chkdsk, and no issues were ever found--until, I think, I downloaded Microsoft .NET framework when a Dell diagnostic tool asked me to. And finally the constant freezing stopped.

But then it started again a couple days ago. The computer starts up fine, but within a few minutes it will start hanging regularly--like every 30 seconds, the cursor either won't move or clicking on something gives me a "(Not Responding)" message at the top of the window. This lasts anywhere from 5 seconds to a few minutes. When I open Task Manager, the CPU usage fluctuates wildly (when Task Manager itself isn't frozen)--it's usually at around 30-60%, but will rise all the way to 99% and then down to 0%. This is when I just have one or two programs running--Firefox and Word--and I don't have many startup programs, nor a lot of programs or files on the computer in general. Once again, all the W... Read more

Can you boot into safe mode? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode
Try running the computer for a while in safe mode and see if the problem continues. If it doesn't, it may be a problem with one or more of your drivers. When you installed the new hard drive, did you use the Dell install CD or just a generic Windows 7 CD? Dells use very specific drivers and it's best to install the OS using one of their install disks.
You may want to try a clean boot and performing some diagnostics. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
It's hard to say at this point what it could be -- this kind of behavior usually indicates an issue with driver and/or system files not loading properly and hogging all the processor bandwidth.

Hi,
I'm using an NEC Versa S900 with Windows XP Professional Edition. I purchased this laptop about a year ago. No matter what I'm doing, or not doing, the bloody thing will sooner or later lock up completely for no apparent reason and then I'd have to turn off and turn back on the laptop and pray that it wouldn't happen again.

The wierd thing is that this only happens if i use the touchpad on the laptop. If i connect a mouse and use that, then everything will work all fine and dandy. But right now, i don't have a mouse available, so i find myself rebooting every few minutes. In fact, i'm just praying it will let me finish this post.

I am obviously real dumb with computers so I don't know any other necessary details so just tell me what to say.

If anyone can help, it'd be greatly appreciated. This thing is driving me nuts...

Thanks in adavnce

Hi! I am new to this forum, however am not new to computers and I know my way around them more than the average person. This time though, I am completely stumped.

I've had this computer for over a year now and have been steadily playing video games on it. This all started last Thursday, at around 9pm. I was playing TF2 with some buddies and it just suddenly froze. I thought nothing of it since it IS a laptop and I am running a game on it, so it's probably bound to happen sometime. But upon rebooting, it froze when I opened Ventrilo. And then one more time on the login screen of Windows. I left it and went to bed.

It continued more on Friday, but then I booted in Safe Mode and system restored onto a save that was 5 days earlier. It still froze.

Earlier today, Saturday, I didn't pay attention to the boot screen but it took me to a debug menu I'm guessing. It scanned my files and everything was fine. It actually didn't freeze until an hour later.

And now I'm on Safe Mode with Networking on, typing this because I have no idea what to do anymore.

I've heard that my hard-drive might be dying, my Windows files are corrupt, over-heating (Although I don't believe it's overheating since it freezes when it's not running games too) and that my laptop parts are dying down.

I am on an Alienware M11x with Windows 7 64Bit Home Premium (No disc drive, so I don't believe I can reformat, unless there's another way).

Hallo,

I have a Toshiba Laptop, I use Windows-7 32 bit, 2G Ram, Intel Pentium Dual T2310 1.46Ghz

Two weeks ago I updated my Windows 7 with Windows Update. I updated numerous software, about 500mb.

Ever since those updates, my screen freezes constantly, and my screen saver doesn't run.

If I open in SAFE MODE, I get the message "The screensaver can't run because it requires a new video card or one that is compatible with Direct3D"

I've Googled many times for the solution, and it appears that I don't necessarily need a new video card. Yet, I cannot find the solution.

I've come across a post on a forum from a Windows user who had the same problem. He said it was one of the Windows Updates which caused the problem. Unfortunately he didn't say how he fixed his problem.

I have tried to go back to a restore point, which is yesterday's restore point, so that doesn't help me much.

I have updated my graphics drivers, but that didn't help either.

ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED!! THANK YOU!

I've tried to run malware bytes and Spybot detectors but of course they can't finish because it freezes. Where should I go from here?

A:Laptop hangs/freezes after five minutes

The symptoms you describe could be symptomatic of a variety of things to include hardware/software issues, overheating caused by a failed processor fan, bad memory (RAM), failing or underpowered power supply, CPU overheating, motherboard, video card, faulty or unsigned device drivers, CMOS battery going bad, BIOS and firmware problems, dirty hardware components, programs hanging or unresponsive in the background, and even malware. I don't use this laptop for games, but after the clean install, I updated all my drivers, software, windows updates, etc. and I still get hangs and freezes that last 5 seconds to sometimes a full minute and all I'm doing is listening to music and browsing websites with maybe two or three tabs open in Firefox. I really have absolutely no idea what could be wrong so I came here seeking any kind of much needed help and assistance. I don't have a lot of programs installed and I don't run a lot of programs at once, just maybe one or two apps usually. My problem is I will be browsing on Firefox listening to music, then iTunes will hang for a few seconds and the music freezes, then Firefox freezes too sometimes for a few seconds also, then it goes back to normal, and this happens very very frequently to the point of frustration and I simply don't understand why a new clean laptop would have an issue such as this. Bad hard drive? Bloatware from Asus? I haven't the slightest idea, but any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

So...the title says it all. The problem occurs at random after I boot up my laptop from hibernation or sleep mode. And...I'm just going to try and describe what happens:
1. Clicks on application (ex. Chrome)
2. Blue spinny thing next to the mouse appears and stays there
3. Application doesn't open/doesn't respond
4. Moves mouse to taskbar and blue spinny thing disappears
5. Proceeds to try and right click to open task manager...when I attempt to right click, nothing happens. So I try to do the CTRL + ALT + DEL method, and that doesn't work either.
6. Realizes the only thing that seems to work during this "freezed"session are my "Sticky Notes"
7. This goes on for a good half an hour, that's basically when I give up and force shut down.

Hope that explains my situation, would appreciate any and all help!! Thanks everyone

A:Laptop Hangs and Then Freezes...Usually After Hibernation/Sleep

I'm going to hazard a tentative guess at this being a memory issue. In lieu of any other suggestions (which may come, give it time for other members to see this problem), I'd suggest you download and install Memory Cleaner - Software - Koshy John .

This small program just sits happily in the background and every five minutes will clear "Working Set" memory (applications which are open now, and using chunks of memory they should have let go of by now) and the system cache (Windows stuff, who knows what Windows does?).
Note: This is something you have to set it to do in the options.

You can also trigger the two types manually, with the pair of buttons available in the interface.
As I say, hang fire for an hour or two and see if anyone else responds because I am far from familiar with this type of problem, and am only working from my own (admittedly limited) knowledge here.

my laptop would just freeze and this is what new i did to it yesterday-----

yesterday i installed malware bytes because my disk space was drastically decreasing and it went to 0 bytes from 2 gb in no time. After scanning malbytes showed certain files that were infected and i moved them to quarantine. This didn't help so i deleted certain files to free disk space.
also malbytes keeps on showing a message that "access blocked to a malicious website with a certain ip address."

But today when i switched on my laptop it just hangs after a while and even task manager won't work, no program would open but it is working fine in safe mode.

some information about the laptop-

Hello all, this is my first post here, but you all seem so very friendly and helpful so thank you for providing such a welcoming atmosphere!

My wife has a Sony Vaio laptop that seems to work just fine (and she also has taken very good care of it over the years) but it seems to occasionally, and more regularly hang or freeze when in use. It is typically within 10-20 minutes after it has been started. Either everything will freeze, or applications will stop responding and the mouse will still move, but it is just a loading circle icon when hovering over the start menu.

This also tends to happen when the computer goes to sleep and then is woken back up.

Here are the specs from the Sysinfo app:

About a year ago, I downloaded Firefox and loved using it. When I began more gaming, I found it didn't support java so I went back to IE. I deleted Firefox from my pc and went back to IE. At that point, i began experiencing frequent freezes while using IE. When IE8 became available, i downloaded that hoping that would fix the problem. But no, if anything, it hangs up even more frequently. And while hung up, the hard drive runs constantly. It can sometimes take in excess of two minutes to close out IE via task manager.

Can anyone help or offer any suggestions on how to stop this from happening. It is extremely frustrating.

Ever since I bought my HP m7760n media center desktop, it has hung up from time to time, and more often lately. I simply turn it on, it boots, I open email and ie-- whatever... everything seems to be working fine. And then,........... nothing. Everything just stops. The screen is still there... the little remote doohickey(blue lights) suggests that I am moving my mouse and manipulating my keyboard, however, the screen is locked. The only fix that I know is to hold the power button until it turns off, then turn it back on, go through the DOS and start regularly, only to suffer the same fate. Sometimes it freezes within two or three minutes, sometimes it stays on the entire time that I use it. I am using Vista Ultimate with an upgraded graphics card and an upgraded power supply. I have taken it to the Geek Squad... nothing wrong. I have sent it to HP for an external drive issue, and mentioned this other problem... they looked at it and said that nothing was wrong. I would truly apreciate any help on this subject.

Thank you!!

Hi to everybody. I have read tons of forums about this issue and I tried to do what advised, but I couldn't solve this issu with my PC.
I upgraded my system 1 month ago, but I didn't achieve a stable configuration. New componets are MB, CPU, RAM and SSHD. I have suspects on PSU even nominal power should be ok.

---PC Configuration:

Windows 7 64-bit
Intel Core i7-4770K
Asus Z87-K

Ati Radeon HD5850
Crucial MX100 2.5" 256GB SATA III Solid State Drive
PSU Modular Power Supply ATX 700W

mouse advent wireless
---Symptoms:

Immediately after the boot, the graphic card fan starts increasing speed and then the system freezes. If I disable and re-enable the graphic card, fan stops overunning immediately and run normally; the system freezes later, randomly.
After 3-4 hard resets, the system asks me to restore the system. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

After downgrading the graphic drivers, the system appeared stable for some days. But now it started again freezing in a different way: rather than increasing the card's fan speed, the graphic card starts flickering. It stops if I disable and re-enable the graphic card, but it starts again after few minutes and the system freezes.

Freezing mechanism: explorer stops responding, but the mouse pointer is still working. After 20-30 seconds mouse freezes as well. It happens randomly in idle state, using google chrome or ... Read more

Unless the new hardware you fitted is almost identical to the old, which I doubt, you should do a clean install of Windows. The main reason is the drivers from the old stuff are still around and are messing things up.

Hello,

I'm currently trying to help my little brother's computer problem that started to occur a few weeks ago.

It randomly freezes during any type of computer use for a minute or more and then resumes back to normal. On occasion, the computer gets a BSOD but I haven't been able to recreate it to get a error code.

I have dumped Error, Critical, and Warning (.EVTX) files that I'm able to provide if required.

The only option is removing the battery/power cord. Once started, i m forced to keep the cursor moving.

Is this virus or any crap like that....or a hardware problem...

Recently it has hang many times at random and I cannot pinpoint what is the problem.

When it hangs the ony way for me to exit is to pull the plug as it will not respond to Alt, Ctrl & Del.

Sound also constantly disappears mid way through music and video play.

It happens so randomly while I surf the net, watch videos, listen to music and even at start up.

Could someone kindly advise

When using my computer programs will frequently stop responding for 20 seconds to a minute and then start working again. This is especially true for browsers, but happens for other programs as well.

After trying restore points, uninstalling programs, and updating drivers, I just gave up and used the manufacturer's restore to original settings function, where all my data was wiped and the computer should have been set back to the original snappy state that it was in a few months ago when I bought it. Imagine my frustration when the problem persisted.

Perhaps it is a hardware thing? I've started memtest86 that I got on an Ubuntu download, so far no errors have shown up. Are there other diagnostic tools I should try?

I did put an ATI TV tuner in, but have now taken that out. Could the card have fried something? The card was working before I uninstalled the drivers in an effort to troubleshoot the hanging problem.

Any software or hardware suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Adam

A:Computer Stalls/hangs constantly

You need to run memtest for a couple of hours, see if any errors are detected.
I'd also do a scandisk and check HD for errors. If you restored it to manufacturers build, then this maybe either bad memory or perhaps errors
on your hard disk.

If the computer is only 3 months old, you may still have warrantry.

The basics:

Vista Home with SP1 and all updates.
Firefox 3.0.5
ZoneAlarm firewall
Avast! AntiVirus
ThreatFire
Road Runner internet through Time Warner

The problem is intermittent which leads me to believe it is an ISP issue.

After browsing for "a while" (sometimes 10 mins, sometimes 30) I will get the status of "Waiting for url.com...." and it never connects. If I close Firefox and restart, I get the message that Firefox is still running. If I open IE at this point, it also will not change from status "Waiting for url.com..." Now here's the part that really pisses me off... when I try to reboot, my computer hangs indefinitely and I have to do a 'hard' shutdown by pressing and holding the power button. Immediately on reboot, it works fine again.

I know this is a pretty vague start, but I need some direction as to what to look for. I recently did a very thorough malware/virus scan on my computer using several advanced tools. Everything is 100% clean. This will be hard to trouble shoot, because it's so intermittent. I'll also be honest that my next door neighbor, using a Mac and the same ISP, reports similar problems that are usually resolved with a reboot as well. Hoping someone can point me at something that will at least get me started in the right direction.

It provides an empty list, and eventually shuts down after a minute or two.

I have Windows 10 build 1511 and use IE11 as my default browser. I find that many websites I visit - nearly 25% - cause the browser to hang. When this happens, a message will appear at the bottom of the browser stating "sitename has stopped responding"
with a recover webpage button, and the browser becomes completely unresponsive, forcing me to have to crash it. If I relaunch IE and go to the same site, the issue happens again.
I have made sure I have all the latest Windows updates installed, I have run IE with add-ons disabled, I've reset advanced settings, normal settings, and security zone settings. I've looked at windows Event Viewer and there are no errors in the application
or system log when the hang occurs.
I have run the troubleshooting tool in the control panel with IE performance selected. Nothing has helped.

I've installed all the updates from Microsoft and also Biostar, ATI etc. But it has made no difference.

I've also tried a clean install of Windows on a formatted hdd. Same problem.

This error appears 20 times in the space of 1 minute. Any relevance?

Also, this might be completly unrelated but I have 2 updates that refuse to install.
1. HID Non-User Input Data Filter
2. Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Detection Filter

I am finding this very frustrating as I can't get any thing done on my machine. And I really don't want to have to revert back to Vista!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try installing the latest 32/64 bit ATi drivers from the official site.

Also remove the old drivers, sometimes installs don't always work and a simple reinstall may work

Assistance needed badly,
My computer is freezing constantly in both normal and safe mode. It usually freezes when online, but not all the time. It will freeze off line in both modes. Unfortunately, I never get any error messages and my Event Viewer only reads Event ID 51, Disk, (error detected on hard disk) or Event ID 7026, Service Control Manager, (system start drivers failed to load). I've run Malwarebytes with no results. I also run CCleaner regularly, Wise Registry Cleaner, Eset, Spybot S&D, Avast and several others. When I try to run SuperAntiSpyyware it freezes after 6-9 minutes every time. It freezes at unpredictable times in almost all other cases. Typically it will freeze between 15 to 20 times per day, especially when I'm online. It has been in for service to a very reputable repair facility four times. After initially replacing my video card it runs fine in the shop, sometimes for up to two days or more. Upon returning to my residence it usually freezes in less than one hour, sometimes 20 minutes or less. I'm running XP Pro SP3 with the following hardware: ASUS A8V-VM SE Motherboard, 2Gig New Kingston DDR 400 SDRAM, New Seagate 2Terabyte Green HD, New Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS 512mb Video Card, New 2 Lite On DVDR/CDR Drives, 1 Lite On CDR Drive, New Ralink RT73 USB WiFi Adapter, Behringer UCA 202 USB Audio Adapter, New 2 Seagate FreeAgent USB HD's, New Logitech K350 USB Keyboard, Kensington USB Expert Mouse Pro Trackball, New LGR 510 Purple Oc... Hi,
Here are my gmer and dds logs. Before you read the logs, here are a few details you might find helpful.

1) 3 days ago the computer began to run as slow as molasses and would freeze up a lot, forcing me to constantly restart.

2)Whenever I restarted, checkdisk would run, saying my disc weren't "consistent".

3)Yesterday the computer became almost unusable. I figured I had nothing to lose,to I decided to reinstall my OS. The computer wouldn't allow a repair install, so I did a full install instead. That's why you see so many programs added and deleted from computer today (4/30).Reinstalling the OS has made no difference.

4) I cannot run the computer in Safe Mode with Networking. When I try to do this, I see a page of System32Drivers.

5) When I check BIOS, it said SMART status is ok, when both BIOS tests failed.

6) Malwarebytes found nothing. AVG found one virus.

7) When I tried fixmbr, it said "The old master boot record cannot be read".

Greetings to everyone,My computer freezes in Normal and Safe Mode, when I can get into Safe Mode, constantly. I've run Malware for the entire system and found no problems. I've cleaned the registry, run CCleaner regularly and use Shadow Defender when online. I've also used Eset to clean up the system successfully. When trying to run SUPERAntiSpyware however, it always freezes after about 8-10 minutes. I can't figure it out. I have a new Seagate 2T Green Hard Drive, 2Gig of new Kingston DDR SDRAM, A new NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS video card and 2 new Lite On DVDR/CDR units. I've got an ASUS A8V-VM SE Motherboard, AMD 2.2 Athlon processor, a Ralink WiFi USB adapter, Logitech K350 keyboard, Kensington Expert Mouse Pro, a Behringer sound adapter, all USB. I also have 2 Seagate FreeAgent external USB drives but both are disabled. ASUS has assured me the board can handle up to 8 USB devices although I only have 6. I'm using XP Pro SP3 with ALL the updates. It's been to the shop 4 times. The last time it ran fine for two days with virtually identical hardware connected before being returned. It froze within 10 minutes after return. It will run for an hour or two occasionally but when I go online it will usually freeze up within 10-15 minutes. I've even switched from Firefox 3.6.6 to 3.5.16 because of other reports of problems with 3.6.6. It also freezes using IE 8 as well. It is also very stubborn about going into Safe Mode. Even using msconfig doesn'... Read more

Hi tquad1951 --Since being back from the shop have you attempted checkdisk /r CMD /C ECHO Y|CHKDSK C: /R | SHUTDOWN /R /T 30 If your system is stable enough to try this, copy and paste this code in Run Box, close all open programs and click OK - This will reboot the system and take about 30 mins so that is why I say "only if stable enough" - Otherwise insert your XP CD and select System repair (the shop may have done this) - <- I've cleaned the registry, -> I hope you did not install a registry cleaner as they can cause similar problems -CCleaner should generally only be used to clear out temp files, and the registry items should be unticked when installing - - Also check that all drivers are updated -Try to remove all but the required items (keyboard and mouse) first as you have a lot of items hooked up <- ASUS has assured me the board can handle up to 8 USB devices although I only have 6 -> , This may be OK in theory but the types and resourses of the items may mean there is an overload still - Some computers can barely handle a printer plus 1 or 2 other items at the same time -Is this computer used for a lot of editing (with 2 new Lite On DVDR/CDR units installed) - Run it as "bare" as you can first and then begin to add the extras one at a time to see if any of these is causing the problem -Thank You -

Ok so i appreciate any help given in advance and i will try to be as thorough as i can

I left my pc on for about 24 hours and then began to us it again. I noticed that it was running incredibly slowly, and would not let me open more than 1 folder for instance. Also when i oppened a folder occasionally it would not load the contents but display a windows logo at the top of the folder. I thought it a bit weird and thought it was probably a memory problem. I rebooted and after about 1 minute it totaly froze. Mouse pointer, keyboard all froze. I wasnt sure about the rest of the computer. But for the first minute after the desktop was displayed i could do what i wanted, if i was quick eneugh. I force turned it off and booted it up again. It still froze after 1 minute and i booted it up again. This time i hit control alt delete and watched the memory and proccessor. Both looked normal and then my pc froze and the results of the proccessor and memory continued to be displayed for about 10 seconds. This confirms that the pc was indeed freezing to. As soon as my pc froze the proccessor clocked up to 100% but memory didnt alter. Then the readings stoped 10 seconds after my pc froze. I was a bit stumped.

I booted into bios and dissabled the boot windows quickly option and tried again. No change and so i downloaded the microsoft memory test thing and put it on a bootable floppy, still convinced it was memory relate. However the diagnosis reports no errors. Again I was stumped.

Hi, I've been having a problem with Firefox for several days now. It freezes up all the time. I downloaded waterfox and that does the same. Do I need to update something? I also use Opera (no problems with that) but Firefox has all my links and I don't know how to get them to use in another browser.

Thank you

A:Firefox constantly freezes

To use your links in another browser, you need to save the links on your computer ,first.
This is how you do that : Open Mozila Firefoxand use this combination ctrl+shift+B to open your bookmarks.
Then click Import and Backup>Export bookmarks to HTML - this will let you save your bookmarks in HTML format.
Save the file on your desktop to find it easily.

Then open the browser ,that you want to use those links in, for example -Internet explorer.
Click File>import and export>import from a file>tick "favorites"... Then select the file that you have saved on the desktop and click- OK. The bookmarks will be added to Internet explorer and you'll be able to use them without even restarting the browser.
Good luck

I'm unsure what the issue is, I've done everything I can think of with dealing with this. I'm running vista off of my Dell Inspiron 5315, and every so often, at least once an hour it freezes for 30 seconds to a minute, sometimes 2-3 minutes and then goes back to normal. I'll have the task manager open and the cpu usage usually doesnt go past 5-10%. nothing has been replaced, no new drivers, no new burner, nothing. I've tried to run it at a lower resolution, does the same thing, i've ran numerous spyware/adware/malware programs, and nothing comes up. I've even wiped my harddrive and reinstalled vista, same problem. It's been doing this since I originally got my computer about a year ago. If anyone could help me out that would be great, it's highly irritating and its a pain with my business.

I've noticed that at random times my PC freezes and becomes unresponsive (the mouse moves though). The HDD light stays on and this all lasts for around 20 seconds sometimes longer.

I have Win7 Pro and disabled indexing and superfetch. I opened system monitor and when the freezing happens I dont see any changes in there. The hard drive is about 3 years old, could it be dying? My hard drive has only got 8MB cache could that be the culprit?

Here's the results of Crystalreports: ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting

Probably not the HD but a check disk would tell you. I suspect it is just writing to disk. I am unsure as to what apps you have installed or how you use them but 4 gigs of ram on win 7 64 bit isnt a ton and if you have HD apps like photoshop, or video editing apps writing may be it.

So I'm having trouble with my PC, it constantly freezes. So far it mostly happens whenever I play a game involving steam - the two games that have frozen on me are counterstrike 1.6, and a game from steam called peggle. More recently the PC froze on me while I was online with just the Internet Explorer open. Steam was running in the backround though.. I'm not sure if Steam is the issue here or if I have something wrong with my PC. I have genuine Windows Ultimate.

Here is my Deckard Scan, I was unable to run the Panda Virus Scan because it is not supported in Vista. I am however currently running Nod32 with signitures (2821 20080124). Please look at my log, I am attaching Extra.txt. Thank you everyone who responds to this.

I had windows 7 for a month and everything was just fine. But my computer started freezing and restarting randomly just a few days ago. It got to the point when the screen would freeze at startup - you know, when the windows logo shows up? So I reformatted my computer to windows xp (all my files and programs are erased from existence!) but it still freezes at startup when the windows logo comes up. Sometimes i get "lucky" and i actually get to the desktop screen, I would poke around a little and then BOOM- the screen turns weird colors and my mouse cant move. I am forced to restart my computer and continue this crazy loop. I dont know where to look for help. I would greatly appreciate any assistance!

Could this be a problem, I'm looking at System Information and I see:

Available Physical Memory 675.33 MB

Available Virtual Memory 1.96 GB

I thought maybe it was a pagefile problem....Virtual memory is set at 1536 -3072 MB. Any ideas, maybe something I havent checked?

I've attached a zip file with 4 fairly close BSODs. I'm not sure if it's a driver issue or a memory issue. I've noticed my system is more stable with only the one 2GB memory chip in it, when I have 4 or 5 gigs, it became more unstable. Pretty sure my other 2 chips burnt out or became corrupted. My system used to have Windows Vista 32bit, and I reformatted and installed Win 7 Ultimate 32bit. It gave me issues of restarting before the switch, and it's giving me issues still.

Just tired of it, and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the BSODs or freezes. I could be watching a movie, and it'll be fine and then BSOD in the middle of the movie. Other times it'll freeze before the movie starts. Or I can click on the start bar, but as soon as I move the mouse pointer over a file with a list, it'll freeze or BS.

Surprisingly, it actually ran perfect for about a 3 week period. I was cautiously pleased, and then it reverted back to it's prior unstable self. Any assistance or insight would be appreciated.

Hello,

I'm recently experiencing constant freezes, almost like every 10 minutes.
I've tried setting to Disabled/off the power options with High performance profile to no avail, also read somewhere that Deamon Tools could cause this so I unninstalled it and deleted the sptd.sys file with the DuplexSecure tool, still the freezes appear randomly.

I also disabled my A: device (usb, SD/MMC, MS/Pro/Duo, CF/Microdrive).
Unpluged the DVD/CD unit.
Disabled AMD HighDefinition Device, read in the AMD forums that causes overloading when you already have another Audio device running.
Unninstalled Gamebooster.
Reinstalled ATI graphics driver, had 11.6, currently using 11.5 with no success.
Ran a MalwareBytes scan with no errors/infections whatsoever.
Tried system restore point couple times but the freezes show up eventually.
Ran Registry Cleaners with CCleaner and COMODO

So I'm here scratching my head thinking about more things I could do to prevent this but I've got anything else, so please help me out with this

hi i'm having a non-virus (i'm pretty sure i've run MBAM,Avast!, and Super anti-spyware all pro version with nothing being picked up) related problem, about a week ago my hdd started freezing constantly (after MSW auto updates,i tryed sys-restore to no avial), this is a relatively old drive (about 5 years), and then suddenly a few days ago it refused to boot the OS and then i took it to the local IT guy and he got it to boot the OS but now i've noticed that my main admin account(i'm using my spare right now) will freeze when ever i try to open a program,it is still responsive to some key commands like alt-tab, and sometimes ctrl+shift+esc, after this happens explorer.exe becomes un-responsive and i have to hard boot the machine. any ideas or help is(are?) much appreciated

Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287 (or http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28744&hl=hard+drive+diagnostic)Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), to make the CD bootable. For Toshiba hard drives, see here: http://sdd.toshiba.com/main.aspx?Path=ServicesSupport/FujitsuDrivesUSandCanada/SoftwareUtilities#diagnosticNote : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps HERE

Im extremely frustrated, computer keeps freezing not sure why. The freezing occurs randomly sometimes it occurs just after startup while other times i can play a game for a few hours before it freezes. Ive been in a repair shop a couple times and they havent solved the problem despite replacing the mother board and power supply. They also reformated the computer and still get the freezing problem. Also when it freezes i turn the power switch off on the back and then i get a noise from the speakers that sounds like someone tapping on a the desk. How can i discover the problem?

The computer is just over 2 years old.
I have a p4 3 ghz processor, 768 mb of ram, Ati radeon x700 video card.

Hey everyone, I have a Windows 7 Home Premium service pack 1 Sony Vaio x64 laptop. It constantly freezes and the problem has been getting more frequent. There is no pattern that I can see. It may run fine for a little while, or within a few minutes it will freeze. The mouse will not move and Ctrl-Alt-Dlt doesn't respond. I have to do a hard shutdown when it happens. What should I do? Thanks!

I recently contracted lots of spyware on my computer, it totally destroyed it. So I just used the HP recovery system which restarted my computer back to its factory settings and backed up my HD for me. But after this, I still get trouble with my notebook. Here's my Hijackthis log.

My computer continually freezes for 30 seconds to two minutes. It does not matter which programs are open or in use. All of the software updates are current. I have completed repair option on several of the programs, with no affect. I have ran regtool, cccleaner, hard disk check, ram check all to no avail. I can not run vista repair because my vista disc does not have the sp2 installed.

Not sure what to do next. Please help.

This problem has been bugging me for quite some time and I'm really desperate to fix this. Previously, my firefox version was 33.0 and I've started to get some hanging and unresponsive script when I'm playing facebook games. Hence, I've updated my firefox to the latest one which is version 34.0.5 thinking it would solve my problem, but it is very much worse now.

It freezes at very random moments that I couldn't track what problem is it. I've resetted firefox, uninstalled and reinstalled back, start in safe mode, disabling each extension to see what causes the problem but to no avail. It even freezes when I'm ONLY loading a few (less than 5) tabs.

I have also did the following methods but nothing helps as well :
1. Updating Adobe and Shockwave Flash to the latest version
2. Option > General > unchecked the hardware acceleration
3. Disabling Protected Mode in Flash by adding 'ProtectedMode=0' to the "mms.cfg" file. (This solved the unresponsive shockwave script)

Please help me as I'm really desperate to solve this. Thank you

A:Firefox 34.0.5 freezes constantly

Reinstalling Fx rarely fixes anything, as nearly all problems are located in the Fx Profile, not in the program itself.

As you did not mention Hardware Acceleration, try turning it off, as that often solves odd problems:
It is found in the Fx Options/Advanced/General menu.

If that does not help, it is time to try a new profile. The best instructions are found at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a...ile_on_Windows . The site is being cantankerous as of this writing, so you might encounter difficulty in accessing the file.

Hello, a couple of days ago, my sister went to some website to watch a tv show and the computer froze minutes after she left the website. I ran a scan with malwarebytes, and it found a bad registry on my computer. I choose to remove the registry, but the computer still freezes. So as of right now, I get no pops or error messages. The computer just freezes at random times. It usually does this an hour or twenty minutes after I start the computer or when its loading the OS. I was able to get a DDS log but when I went into safe mode and tried to get a GMER log, it froze right after it finished scanning. I hope you guys can help. Thanks in advance.

My computer has been constantly freezing the past couple of days. It is a Dell Dimension 2400 with Windows XP Home and 2 GB of RAM. It started freezing shortly after I would reboot. Both the keyboard and mouse wouldn't respond. It had been a while since I reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled Windows, so I decided to try that. The weird part is, the computer actually freezes up during the reinstall process. It gets to 33 minutes of the reinstall of Windows XP and then asks me to set the Regional Settings. When I try to move the mouse to click Next, the mouse doesn't move. If I try to just press Enter to click Next, nothing happens. Not sure what could be causing this. It appears the fan is working fine, so I don't think it's overheating. Thanks for any help.

I had this problem before. Although I am not sure it was the same error message. I got advice from this site and my computer worked fine for several months. Now my Asus laptop works fine for several days. I do a search in Foxfire or IE, everything is working ok and then for no apparent reason the screen freezes up and the hour glass icon that shows the page is downloading goes on indefinately. I have to use my retore disk to get it to work again. I have Vista on this computer. I downloaded Service Pack 2 and all the other updates I needed.

It just suddenly and for no apparent reason won't boot up and the windows repair tool won't fix it. I have changed the hard drive, power supply and memory already over a period of time. I'm beginning to think it is my motherboard. The specs for my build are as follows: Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-USB 3. AMD Phenom 11 X 4 965, Seagate 1 TB Sata HD, Asus Sata DVD burner and 4 GB Crucial RAM.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. I think I'm ready to change boards though. What would be a good one to buy that is compatible with my processor?

Help Needed Badly,My computer freezes constantly. I cannot get into Safe Mode using F8 on restart. I've had the computer in for service four times and it still freezes when returned. When it's in the shop, it supposedly runs fine w/out freezing for almost two days under similar operating conditions. It especially freezes when running SuperAntiSpyware or when online. I've disabled all external hard drives and other devices, all running on USB, but it still freezes. I have an ASUS A8V-VM SE MB w/2Gig DDR 400 SDRAM, Seagate 2T 5900rpm Hard Drive, Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS video card, Ralink RT73 WiFi, Logitech K350 USB Keyboard and Kensington USB Expert Mouse Pro and Behringer UCA 202 USB Sound adapter. I also have 2 Seagate FreeAgent USB Hard Drives but both are disabled. I would appreciate any suggestions as to what is causing this computer to freeze constantly, Every 5-10 minutes usually. At this point this problem is driving me nuts. Please Help. So I have a windows 7 computer and the problem is that for some reason my computer freezes up or restarts itself and when it is back on, the lan hardware is no longer working (it appears to say that either the lan is not plugged in or that the hardware is broken). So, I restart my computer again and the lan problem is no longer an issue. However, the computer goes back to the same cycle after a few minutes or hours. I have check for viruses, spyware, checked for registry problem, defragmented my computer and the problem still occurs. I am pretty good with computers but this problem appears to not go away and it is pretty annoying. Please help me out.

My computer is custom made
it is using windows 7 ultimate, it has a Intel motherboard which is DP35DP media series.
I have 8gigs of ram, Intel core 2 quad cpu model number Q9550 @ 2.83ghz.
1.5 tb of harddrive, ATI RADEON HD 4800 series graphics card, and a network adapter pci (since my motherboard network lan is not working)

If anyone needs more information do not hesitate to ask. Thank you for the help

Is this problem with the onboard LAN or the PCI NIC? Have you updated the drivers?

Hi,

Number of problems with my laptop but the main one now is that it constantly freezes (every 5 mins or so).
I wanted to post a log here from HijackThis but it says "your system denied write access to the Hosts".

Also both Malwarebytes & Avast! freeze the computer when I scan my computer for infections (this was happening a few months before the freezing every 5 mins started).

Really need to get this sorted now so I would appreciate any help!

Thanks,
Gubbo

My problem is, as stated in the title, that my laptop is being very slow and freezes up more often than not.
