Lenovo H Series Desktop is not responding to recent HP 2311x monitor

Q: Lenovo H Series Desktop is not responding to recent HP 2311x monitor

I recently got an HP 2311x Monitor for Christmas and hooked it to a Lenovo H200 tower. I am unable to get past Windows splash screen. BIOS says "we apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this." I have tried going into safe mode and just about every other option to no avail. I asked HP tech support to see if bad monitor but it is fine. I also called Lenovo Idea tech support and they said a tech will call back. I think something is uncompatible with Lenovo and HP monitor. It worked just fine when it was hooked to an old CRT. Cant handle the latest flat screen technology perhaps?. Any suggestions?

A: Lenovo H Series Desktop is not responding to recent HP 2311x monitor

Do you know anyone you can borrow another monitor from?

Have you checked monitor settings to make sure frequencies are within the range supported by your display device?

Another option would be to manually disable the display adapter driver. What type of display adapter is involved? Intel, NVIDIA, AMD?

Just bought this monitor a couple hours ago and right now I have it hooked up to my Xbox 360. When I go into the menu it says H=67kHZ V=60Hz and it tells me to use recommended settings which is 1920x1080-60Hz. My xbox settings is 1920x1080 and it does seem to use that resolution right now. This is the second one of these i have and my other one worked perfectly fine with the settings.

How can I fix this or do I even have to worry about it?

I'm rarely on the computer, and when I am, I manually shut the monitor off when I'm done using it.  Several times this last week, the monitor will turn itself back on in the middle of the night, waking us up from a dead sleep.  Does anyone else have this problem and, if so, how do you make it stop?

A:HP 2311x monitor turns on by itself

Strangely enough, I am having the exact same problem with the 2311x monitor.  I am thinking it is something connected with Windows 10 somehow, because as far as I know it never did it until recently, after Windows 10 was installed. And to be clear, I use the main switch to turn it off and it is not in sleep mode or anything else.  I see nothing in the monitor settings that stands out as a culprit or a fix.

Hi, My HP 2311x has recently started to flicker on and off, displaying the image for a few seconds before turning off and on. The power light turns off and on with this. I am using a HDMI cableOften it can be fixed by opening a program, (i have two monitors so can do this on the other one) and with the program opening it then finds the source.I have tried the monitor on my PS4 and it works for that.  Any ideas what the issue could be.  I nhave uplaoded a video of the issue here .... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4TxA2YfBFw

After installing latest Windows 10 update, I can no longer use my HP 2311x 23-inch LED Backlit LCD Monitor as a duplicate monitor (even though I have selected duplicate display in settings.)  I can see there are known issues with Windows 10 and drivers for various devices.  I do not see a Windows 10 driver for my HP monitor on the HP support website. Any suggestions?

A:cannot use HP 2311x as duplicate monitor in Windows 10

FYI, in case it's a factor here... I use a Toshiba laptop along with a Toshiba Dynadock to connect mouse, full-size keyboard, and larger monitor.

My monitor has decided that it does not want to turn off, or let me change any settings.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt.  However most recently it has decided not to work more than work.   None of the buttons work, I get no message on the monitor, I cant turn it off or change any of the settings.  I just got the monitor 3 or so months ago and this just started happening recently.  It has done nothing but sit on my desk.  Anyone with experience please help me out!  I have a LG that is 2 years old and everything still works great on it, its not like I fiddle with anything but the power buttons, but it is rather annoying.  Any help is appreciated.

A:HP 2311x Buttons on monitor not working

Hi Paul,  Your monitor is covered by warranty for one year if you purchased it new.  Perhaps you should contact HP support.  HP's support number is 800-474-6836 or 800-HPINVENT or online here. Try a monitor reset. Unplug the monitor?s power cord and hold down the monitor?s power button for 30-60 seconds. Plug the monitor back in and power it up.

Hello, I really hope someone out there can recognize my issue and help me resolve it. I bought an HP 2311x monitor some time ago and have suffered thru very unsatisfactory display on my screen. Basically, I get very dull, bland screens in some applications together with blurred, non sharp text and drawn lines. This is driving me crazy because I have another HP monitor (HP 24uh) attached to other computers and the display is terrific -- it is sharp, crisp, and has brilliant, vivid color. I have tried using the buttons on the lower right corner of the monitor but they seem cumbersome and don't seem to have any effect on my screen display. I have also downloaded HP software that relates to the HP 2311x and installed it all, but I have no idea whether any of it can help me change my issue. Please help! Thank you.

I'll try to keep this brief, since the full version would be way too long, but strange things have been going on with my computer lately. First, some background:

Computer: Hewlett Packard Pavilion Elite HPE-112y (5 or 6 years old now, a home system)
Original Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium
Upgraded to Windows 8 and then 8.1 and, as of last Fall, Windows 10 (via the automatically downloaded upgrade)
It had some trouble upgrading to Windows 10 but eventually succeeded and has been working fine.

Here is the quick version of the events I can remember from the last couple of weeks:

To get all-in-one wireless printer/scanner to work (which had been working before -- a HP B209a-m I think) I followed HP's suggestion to switch to private network.
I ended up having to reinstall printer driver but the installation failed as well as it's attempt to roll back the installation.
On every startup the system tries to complete the installation of the printer but cannot due to missing files.
Every attempt to install, including using HP's special installation process, failed the same way.

Windows Update did not seem to be working. Would always fail on the same update whether done automatically or manually. Has seemed to work since.

Tried System Restore but could not get back far enough to get everything working properly again.

System File Checker (sfc) reported no problems.

chkdsk reported no problems

chkdsk /R reported no problems but I was suspicious of it since it started... Read more

many thanks in advance.

just another thought, they dont seem to happen while i play games or do anything extensive like photoshop or anything, they seem to happen mainly when the system is idle, or as soon as i boot up and open google chrome.

A:Lenovo c series please help

Try unplugging the machine, and holding the power button for 30 seconds to clear the CMOS. Then, plug it back in and see if it'll work. If not, try to continously press F11 and F12 during boot up. If that doesn't work, you may need to contact Lenovo support because it seems like the display may be defective since fans and CD ROM is running.  http://support.lenovo.com for support chat and phone.

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Y570 (Windows 7, 64 bit, i7 Core). I also have a license key (and an installation disk) to upgrade this laptop computer to Win 8. I want to do this upgrade soon, but am not sure what will happen to the special Lenovo programs and functions which came pre-installed with the computer. The most important is OneKey Recovery which restores Windows either by running the OneKey Recovery program, or, if Windows cannot be started normally, by pressing the OneKey Recovery button instead of the Switch-On button. The OneKey Recovery System uses a special Service Partition on the hard drive to backup and recover the C partition. In effect, you don't need an installation disk to get out of any kind of trouble with Windows. The Y570 also has other special features such as the SlideNav program navigator, more of a gimmick to my mind. The question is, what happens when I upgrade Win 7 on this machine to Win 8 Pro? Will the OneKey Recovery system (including the button) still work? It's a long shot to ask this question on this forum. But perhaps there is a soul somewhere who has successfully (or unsuccessfully) tried to upgrade this kind of machine to Win 8? The Lenovo Y-Series includes the Y580, Y570, Y580 and the smaller Y460 etc range, all with at least OneKey Recovery as special feature. Any help available about this? I asked this question at the Lenovo forum but got nothing but silence, non-answers, in return. The Lenovo users simply don't know, it would seem.

A:Has anybody upgraded Lenovo Ideapad (Y-Series) to Win 8?

You should visit the Lenovo forums for your laptop model;
IdeaPad Y, U, V, Z and P series Laptops - Lenovo Community

Might look at their Win8 compatibility list too if its still there somewhere.

The OneKey will do you no good as it would restore your factory or your custom image. You can rebuild it with your own win8 install image, but it takes some efforts and the Lenovo engineering dvd download and understanding how to use it. Its really simple but takes a certain procedure and a lot of time, that you can quickly waste that time if you don't understand the how to.

Its just an Image, I loaded it then said screw it after all the initial errors from the win8 install and simply enlarged that partition to 50gb and let the win8 (7backup) do a weekly backup and image into it. That regressed button restore is now useless but I can still image it simply with the win8upgrade.iso. Learn the RecIMG command and you'll probably be happy - but do keep an image on a remote drive somewhere.

You might want to find the image inside the Lenovo_Part and rename install.wim .. save it somewhere for some rainy day to let windows use it to reimage back to the factory original win7 and Lenovo crapola, or to the custom image if you did that when new. If you have resized any partitions, you've already broken that regressed factory reimage button. Seems everybody breaks it without knowing.

Last week we purchased two different Lenovo Yoga 710 series laptops. Under the "Enter" key, the "page up" key and the "shift" key are reversed from normal keyboard position. Both function properly but are unlike any other keyboard I have seen. As a result, typing is interrupted  as I have to lift my fingers/wrist from the keyboard to reach the right shift key. This appears to be a major quality control defect in this series. Besides interrupting typing speed and causing typing errors, this can lead to potential carpal tunnel issues. I have been told that this is the "remodeled keyboard, " however, this is actually an incorrect placement of these keys. How will this issue be rectified?

hi Braddburm,

Welcome to the Forums.

It looks like the onboard VGA port gave out. Try to:
1. Use a discrete graphics card to output your video (i.e. pci or low profile pci-e graphics card)
2. If option 1 is not possible and you're considering a replacement machine, you will need a 3.5 HDD sata enclosure to convert the internal HDD to an external HDD to read the data on the new replacement machine.

Hi,there is a lot matrices are installed into x201t. Models also depend of the backlight type - LED or CCFL. I'm not sure whether any supported matrices models are compatible with your laptop. Also there are different LCD cable assembly and LCD rear cover assembly depending of the backlight type.To ensure what matrice you have and what's compatible check out on Lenovo' site parts list of your laptop by its [laptop] serial number. Support site doesn't answer a question by MTM only.I think it's impossible to fit non touch matrice into the tablet because of the different size (width). Compare the width of x201 and x201t.

Your employer is going to let you return their supplied laptop for a refund or replacement from another brand for a unit that I am guessing you have used for more than half a year? o.0 On topic, Do you have any issues with the laptop itself when it is undocked?  From the sounds of it all problems appear to be docking related, so assuming the dock connector/port is free of all detrius that might cause issues, would suggest using the warranty to replace the dock as that certainly sounds to be the focal point of all your issues.

Hi, I have a Lenovo IdeaCentre A5 (refurbished) for 1 1/2 yrs now. A couple of days ago some problems occured. When I tried to put my computer in sleep mode, one or two seconds later it turned back on. So the sleep mode is not working anymore.  One or two days later the screen started to freeze!! Sometimes this happens right when I started the computer, sometimes after a few minutes or after one or two hrs. The only thing I am able to do when this happens is to exit via the power button since the touch screen doesn't work either.  In addition, two days ago I had a black screen when I tried to turn it on and a sad face popped up with the message that my disk needs to be scanned and repaired. This process took about 30 minutes and luckily I was able to start the computer again, but the screen freeze is still an issue and really annoying!!! Is there anything I can do to fix this? Note: I would need step by step instructions because I have NO knowledge about computer whatsoever!

This can be a result of a faulty update, or possibly a virus. I will suggest to perform a system restore. This won't wipe your personal files, it will restore to a previous point on your computer.  1. Right-click (or press and hold) the Start button, and then select Control Panel.2. Search Control Panel for Recovery.3. Select Recovery > Open System Restore > Next.4. Choose the restore point related to the problematic app, driver, or update, and then select Next > Finish. Let me know if that helps.

Hi, I've suddenly encountered a very uncomfortable problem yesterday about my Video Card and I absolutely have no idea where to go on from here.

>Was playing a new game, Unholy Heights. Had to install Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable 4.0 to get it working.
>Playing on bed, used a pillow to soften laptop on lap.
>Spent Maybe 2-3 hours. Noticed the laptop is really hot. Removed the pillow and let it breathe.
>A few hours later (1-2h) Sudden green pixels appear. Then something like this happened, but was pink

>Restarted the laptop. This happened.

Then notification pops up saying AMD Driver managed to recover. Then Pic #1 after a couple of seconds then I had to manually shut it down.
>Was slightly ok. Although if I watch a video, green pixels show up. If I play a game for more than 5 minutes, Pic #1 happens.
>Annoyed. Went to Safe Mode. Rollback AMD Display Driver. Restart.
>Actually got worse. Can't boot normally now. Went back to Safe mode and uninstalled AMD Driver.
>Now on normal mode, using standard VGA.

Everytime I'm using the AMD Driver. That happens. Not sure why. Maybe a loose connection? Appreciate all help.

A:AMD Radeon HD 7600M Series 2.7 GB Suddenly stopped responding problem

Hello and welcome Zena now for starters as you know resting the laptop on a pillow was about daftest thing you could have done as you blocked any air entry into the machine. Now it could be that you have cooked the motherboard as the GPU is served by the same heatpipes that run from the CPU too.

Now worst case scenario is the GPU chip is fried and the CPU too. What model Toshiba have you got??
Just to give you a rough idea of what is inside I have snipped a couple of pics from site I use. What you can do about well I suppose let the thing cool completely first the try again but I wouldn't be holding my breath

Hey there guys and gals, I have a Lenovo Laptop 3000 series G530 (18 months old) and it causing me a few problems because it's extremely slow and almost always unresponsive to anything I do (webpages on most occasions are taking 30 - 40 minutes to load, Although here it only take 10 - 20 seconds :P).

Anyway I located a .VHD file and tried to use that restore it's previous state from last november (just before I returned it too the microsoft engineer who said he had fixed it when he hadn't (naughty engineer ), Anyway I managed to fix it myself that time round.

So I was posting in one of the threads here earlier about opening the .vhd file to access the windows file's before they became unresponsive (or whatever you want to call it ) and it turn's out that the .vhd file may be from just after the engineer tried to fix it or just before (not too sure it was the same day though ), Anywho I wanted to know how to do a factory restore on the computer without having the installation disc (and apparently no product key on the sticker below the battery on the bottom of the laptop, It's worn away so it's unreadable).

I recently purchased a Lenovo Ideacentre 700 series desktop computer from Best Buy.  Though the performance seems to be okay, I've found one 'feature' that is extremely frustrating...the motherboard has a proprietary PSU connector.  The 725W aftermarket PSU I purchased can't be installed because the Lenovo motherboard has a 10+4 pin connector for the PSU whereas the aftermarket PSU has a 'standard' 20+4 pin connector. Since Lenovo advertises this as an "Easy to Upgrade Powerhouse", do they sell an adapter to use aftermarket PSUs?!  If not, is anyone aware of an aftermarket solution that I can purchase?  I would think that enough people have encountered this issue that someone would offer a plug-and-play adapter cable. I've already reviewed the following post on this forum, but it primarily desribes a solution that involves cutting wires and using a paperclip as a jumper.  It also mentions a 24-to-10 pin ATX adapter cable at a site called Moddiy, but a later post says that this adapter unfortunately doesn't work.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-E-H-K-M-Q-Y-and-ErazerX/IdeaCentre-700-10-Pin-Atx-Connector/td-p... Is anyone aware of an adpater that will work? Thanks in advance.

Hello Everyone,

Odd thing i've experienced yesterday, upgraded lenovo t410 laptop to intel ssd drive 180 GB and decided to instal win7 pro with integrated sp1.
In the post installation stage, while setting username and computer name computer crashed with BSOD.
It happen 4-5 times. Even booting in the safe mode i experienced 2 times complete freeze where i had to manually power off laptop.
I continued installing drivers on notebook and seams that issue is no longer present.
I have different problem now, windows shuts down unexpectedly without any bsod dumps. happen also several times in past 24h.
In attach you will see in system logs only single entry as i cleared event logs to find last occurrence easily.

Note that with Hitachi disk that was in laptop before I never experienced bsod, true is that i got laptop with installed win7proSP1 on it with all drivers installed.
I used lenovo system update tool to get all drivers to the system.

I am suspecting that new hardware (intel ssd 520 series) might be cause of this or the drivers either on sata controller or on disk.
according to ssd toolbox firmware on disk is latest.

Run Disk Full test with Intel ssd toolbox and finished successfully.

My laptop's monitor is broken, so I use an external monitor plugged in through an HDMI cord. I updated to Windows 10 and can't figure out how to toggle between display settings. I know you can do Windows + P and select expand, but seeing as I have a broken laptop monitor I can't do anything.

I have been succussufully using a sony laptop, with a second samsung monitor for 2 years with windows 7. I used to be able to run as many programs as I liked moving things back and forth as I needed. Now I have two start menues, and two of everything. One of everything on each screen. I used to be able to watch a movie on one screen and run autocad on the other.

It might as well be one monitor because the screens are identical instead of managing different programs. Help. I feel silly because I've had no problems until now.

I am using a Toshiba laptop A105-S4104 and a desktop computer both using XP Professional with both on the same two computer network. I have identical programs on both. I would like to get the two screens together on the desktop in order that I might drag and drop data. I do not wish to replace the entire files on either computer but to combine the two as I like. I have seen this done by making the desktop monitor into a half screen then bringing the laptop screen to the other half of the desktop. Can you explain how this is done? Many thanks.

Hey There! Welcome to the forum!

I believe you possible mean remote desktop (Microsoft Terminal Services Client) however i dont think you can drag files between windows.

The best way of doing it with both pcs on the network would be to open my documents and type in the address bar "\\OTHER-COMPUTER-NAME\C$" that will give you access to the c drive on the other pc depending on Firewall settings.

To find your PC name right click on my computer and click properties. Then click the computer name tab. Your computer name will be shown next to 'Full Computer Name:'

Hi. I'm having the following warning: The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ROOT\SYSTEM\0001 I have a Lenovo H50 Desktop (Win 10) and last night or early this morning something happened to my PC as when I went to use it, I did see the power light still on (screen was in power saver mode, but when I clicked on any key or on the mouse, nothing was happening and the PC was apparantly unresponsive (or in some sort of "hibernation") and I had to basically hold down the power button until the PC shut off. I then powered it back on but still nothing happened. So, before I started to freak out (I got this PC in December so not that long ago), I again held down the power button to force shutoff then I unplugged the PC for a minute or two, then plugged back in and powered the PC back on. At least this time it booted up, but it seemed to come up to the "lock screen" rather than the usual main login screen - again as if it was in some sort of strange sleep or hibernation mode with someone logged in.. I then confirmed this by choosing to restart the system and it did give a warning that some users may lose information..blah blah, but I chose to do the fresh restart anyway. After the restart, it booted up normally to the main login screen.  I did look in the event viewer but did NOT see any Critical events in the past hr or 24 hrs, a few Errors (none that I could see that explained the freeze) but saw these Warnings: ?  Is something occasio... Dear community, I have this rather special issue that I would like to ask for your assistance with. The case: I have a Lenovo X1 Carbon 2nd generation (20A7) running Windows 10 x64. One day, the touchpad stopped working, but initially by making the cursor jump around the screen when I used the touchpad and later with no response at all. Currently, neither the touchpad or the trackpoint work and only when combining all of my effort and luck (emphasis on the latter) I can get a response. For instance, I recently had luck reinstalling the UltraNav driver which made the touchpad respond, though rather "patchy", but only until I restarted the computer. The background: I bought the laptop while living the United States but have since moved to Denmark where I cannot use what remains of my warranty. I tried calling the Lenovo callcenter and an employee suggested that I enabled the touchpad in the BIOS and reinstalled the driver, but when that did not work, he fell short on advice. It seems that those guys are primarily there to help old people create a password and what not. The twist: I am aware that one excellent possible solution to my issue is that I can do a clean install of Windows on my device. However, I currently have a limited use version of some very expensive software installed and I need that in my daily work and cannot get a new version right away, so doing that would set me back quite a lot.&nbs... Hello and welcome,

It seems that you're leaning toward a software rather than a hardware problem.  You might try booting a live Linux USB flash drive to verify that the hardware works.

It's typical for ThinkPads to have international warrantees.  Have you verified your specific coverage?   SUPPORT above, then International Services in the Warranty and Repair drop-down.

If your machine is eligible for local warranty service they will probably reinstall the OS as a diagnostic - and possible repair - effort.  If you can isolate to a hardware issue as suggested above you might avoid that step.

today I realised that I had a recent places icon on my desktop. I tried right clicking it to delete but there's no option to do so. I'm a bit anal about what's on my desktop so I would love some help in removing it

A:recent places on desktop

Question, do you still see "recent places" in the windows explorer under "favorites"?

If you do still see it there, it could be that at some point you tried to manually clear the recent places history by clicking into it and deleting the entries. Doing this can sometimes cause the desktop recycle bin icon to change to the name+icon of recent places. To resolve that, right click the desktop, choose personalize, then change desktop icons and un-tick "recycle bin", click OK. Then click change desktop icons once again and put a tick back in recycle bin and click OK. Recent places will be gone from the desktop and the recycle bin will be back.

If you do not see recent places in the windows explorer window, drag it back under the "favorites" area and you should be able to remove the duplicate after doing this.

Today I ran xxclone to clone my spare drive and all went well. This afternoon I went to shutdown and it logged off, the shutting down window displayed and then it just sat there fat, dumb and unhappy. I can shut it down with the button, but that's to old fashion way.

After reading reams of posts here and elsewhere it seem like this problem is completely baffled the entire guru population because I have tried many remedies with no success. The typical "fix it" MS routines says nothing is wrong. sfc /scannow has no errors. In fact everything I do draws a blank.

Now. I've been there, done that for 57 years wit these computers and their predecessors, and with a window with "shuting down" on it tells me nothing, even if I look at the logs. Maybe my PC has developed a hardware ill?

Does anyone know how to revert to the latest production model and out of the Insider program?

I have a Dell laptop, OS is XP. If a jpeg is in a folder, I can double click on it and it will open in the default program Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. However, if the jpeg is on my desktop it will not open in this program (it just flashes on the monitor and disappears). I have to right click it, Open With, choose W Pict and Fax Viewer, then it opens. Obviously, I have tried "always use this program..." but it does not stay toggled.
This problem started after I did a System Restore (I was forced to do this restore when a DVD which always opened fine in the past was inserted and I got the "blue screen of death". Nobody was able to correct the problem, so I did the system restore. I have not actually put that DVD in the drive since the restore but it does work fine in my other 2 Dell laptops which are both Vista!) Can these issues be related? How do I fix the jpeg situation?
Thank you very much.

Recently my computer would not turn back on after shutting it off (custom PC). I did fix the problem by simply unhooking my Radeon graphics card then plugging it back in. So I'm not sure if there was an issue with overheating (I cleaned out a good deal of dust).
Also, I have had issues of general freezing every once in a great while and videos on YouTube getting "stuck" on one repeated sound. It would play back very slowly, as though it were some inspiration for the SFX in the recent Transformers films.
I wondering what could be causing these issues, if it is some sort of malware...  I have been using SpyBot S&D but do not currently have active antivirus software (used to use malwarebytes when it was free, and now I'm considering purchasing it perhaps).

Hey guys,
Very recently my computer has been crashing with the jagged lines of death. After it reboots, the screen becomes split up into multiple "instances" of one screen, very similar to if you select the "tiled" option in windows background. Example:

Where the box around the outside is my monitor, and four "normal" images (i.e. the desktop, mouse cursor, etc.). Hi folks,

I see that this topic has been mentioned more than once in the past - sorry to bring it back (none of the solutions fix my problem).

A few days ago (16th July 2012) the Resident Shield of my AVG Internet Security 2012 reported an issue with the 'Services.exe' file located in C:\Windows\System32\
- specifically stating 'Trojan horse dropper.Generic_c.MMI' and saying that the 'Object is white-listed (critical/system file that should not be removed'.

After Googling this issue the avg forum suggested I use the following command in the cmd box: "sfc /scanfile=c:\windows\system32\services.exe". After doing this I had no more problems reported with services.exe.

Problem 1:
However, now, my desktop icon arrangement has reset and grouped to the left side of the screen. I can re-position each icon however, upon reboot or the desktop Refresh command all Icons return to the left - to exactly the same position. Auto arrange icons is turned off and align to grid can be turned off however, it keeps turning itself on upon reboot.
Icon re-positioning was always retained previously - this problem has only just appeared.

Problem 2:
Upon double-clicking the desktop Computer icon I am now unable to permanently set the view from 'Tiles' to 'Details' (I can, temporarily) - this was never the case until the issue above (i.e. all explorer/folder views were permanently set to detail via 'folder options/view/apply folders').

Hello mesab66 and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you have a restore point going back to July 15 or earlier you could see if that will correct the problem.

System Restore

You could also run the actual system file checker scan (sfc /scannow) from an elevated command prompt (option two) just to make sure you don't have any damaged or corrupt system files. If any problems are found run the scan 3 times rebooting in between each scan.

Gentlemen/Ladies: I am strongly considering the purchase of above HP Desktop. I will use the system for surfing the web and video and photo editing. I am a novice in the area of video and photo editing. I am taking up the craft as a hobby and see where it takes me. The primary components of the system will be as follows:

- Windows 7 Home Premium (Upgrading to Windows 8 when available)
- Processor:3rd Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770K quad-core processor [3.5GHz, 8MB Shared Cache]
- Memory: 16GB DDR3
- HD: 256GB SSD + 1 TB 7200 HD
- GPU: 2GB Nvidia GeForce GTX680 [DVI, HDMI and VGA via adapter]
- Power Supply: 600 Watt
- Liquid Cooling Solution
- Monitor: Looking at Dell 27"2560x1440

The system comes equipped with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere 10

HP's Phoenix series is a favorite of some gamers. I was considering an Imac but decided against it because I wanted to stay with a PC. My question to the forum is are these components a little overkill? The price is not a barrier for me.

A:Is the HP-HPE h9-1210t Phoenix series Desktop Overkill for Me

I guess it will depend on how much video editing you end up doing. It is absolutely overkill for surfing the web, and overkill if you only do a little photo editing. The extra cores will help with the video editing, but you will never use them surfing the web. Even if you do gaming it will not help much. Games rarely use 4 cores of a processer. If you want a system like that, you would be better off building it yourself. It really isn't as hard as most people think and you will get better quality components, and exactly what you want. And you always have the experts here in chosing components and assembling the computer.

You should be able to "refresh" your pc without losing your files. Im not sure about programs, but personal files you shouldnt lose. This should  work, I have done it myself and the Microsoft website also says it will not remove personal files when you choose this option. But I will say do it at your own risk. If it works, back up your personal information onto an external media for safe keeping incase something like this happens again.

I have an ACER M4 Series, Veriton desktop PC, Model number M4618G-Ui5240W.  The PC has an Inter Core i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10 GHz, 4 GB of Ram and a 32 bit Operating System .  I am running Windows 10. Recently it has begun failing during normal operations.  The top of the monitor will flicker with horizontal lines corrupting the video image, followed by loss of output to the monitor which goes blank.  The PC then either freezes with an annoying beeping sound that continues until I perform a hard shutdown or it completely shuts itself down. Any ideas what is causing this or what I can do to correct this issue?

Hello!  I went to put my desktop into sleep mode before bed last night and noticed it had turned off.   No idea why.  I go to turn it on and NOTHING.  No lights, no sounds, no fans, nothing.  The power signal light on the back is flashing green.  I followed some steps from this page http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph06788#AbT4 Unplugging everything from the back and holding  the power button for 10 seconds didnt do anything.  Pushing for 1 second and waiting 10 seconds didn`t do anything.  I took off my side panel for the next steps, but didn`t want to touch anything as I don`t want to harm anything.  I`ve tried another outlet and the light keeps blinking green.  I haven`t had this computer for too long, maybe a couple years or less.  I take good care of it with good antiviruses and making sure to put it to sleep mode everynight, and keep it updated etc.  Looks like the power to the machine is okay since the light is flashing....  is it something internal? Wondering if anyone could help?   Feeling anxious.  Please and thank you!

I understand that you started through the troubleshooting guide for power supplies.  The step about disconnecting internal components is essential to continue the troubleshooting, however.  If you are not comfortable with that, maybe get a more knowledgeable friend to help.  Otherwise it is off to the repair shop.

I am SERIOUSLY thinking of buying HP TouchSmart 610 Quad series All-In-One desktop with following (customized) specs. http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/s...ore&category=desktops&series_name=610q_series

However, I DO NOT like the graphics card 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M - looks like they are putting laptop graphics card into a desktop.

My question(s) is/are :

Can I replace this card with one of the NVIDIA GTX series graphics card ? Which one will you recommend? I want to put in a new GTX 590 or any of the following :

GeForce GTX 580
GeForce GTX 570
GeForce GTX 560 Ti
GeForce GTX 560 (new!)
GeForce GTX 550 Ti
GeForce GTX 460

Will it be a simple SWAP or I need to upgrade PSU as well.

If I need to replace PSU what will be specifications of the new PSU? I do not know what is the rating of the current PSU. Do you think, it will handle the new GTX card?

So, yeah. 5 year warranty compared to two of Buffalos and WDs, but does that actually mean that much more reliable a drive? With the problems with Seagate drives lately and a price slightly lower than with other similar drives I'm a bit wary... I won't be storing/backuping anything of real importance, just a handier option compared to a squadron of flash drives How much limited is the warranty actually? Manufacture flaws with no responsibility over the lost data or what? I'm a bit... Uncomfortable with any kind of warranty or RMA thing....

A:Seagate Freeagent Desktop series (especially 1TB model) reliable or not?

I purchased what was described as a 'Dell 3588D Motherboard Slot 1 Dimension
XPS-B' motherboard from eBay. It uses Rambus memory sticks, but has 3
memory slots to fill, while every motherboard of that type I have researched only
has 2 memory slots. In addition, most of the Series B desktops I looked into
seem to be limited to 512MB of memory.
Because my motherboard has 3 memory slots, would I be allowed to insert three 256MB memory sticks, giving me a total memory of 768MB? I'm told that you should
not exceed the required limit of memory. Would someone care to comment on my
predicament?

Hi guys,
We have bought a new computer, the one I already have is fine, but this new one has some problems. We just installed winXP and other stuff, but when we got to our VGA driver, everything went wrong.
The video card is a GeForce 5700LE 128 mb.
When we installed the driver for it, it restarted the computer automatically. But after that, when the computer boots, as soon as the XP logo is done and its about to get into the desktop, the monitor 'shuts down' or something like that because it says that there is no more connection ( on the monitor ) and to check the signal cable. The monitor is a 'MAGVIEW'. However, the computer is still running. Anyway I reformatted and as soon as I installed the VGA driver, the same thing happened. The only thing I can do is boot in safe mode
Please help

One day i was watching a movie on my computer and it just randomly shut off. I thought i might have accidently kicked the power cord, but then i saw i didn't. when i tried to turn it back on, the computer went on but my monitor read, "no signal". it has been like this, and i'm not sure how to fix this because i cant use a screen to fix anything. what can i do??

Hey, I have a problem with my pc not starting up correctly.
When i turn on my pc, everything seems to be normal but the monitor is on, but will show "No Signal" and will go into sleep mode. I believe it may be my graphics card which is the problem but i am unsure, I have a GeForce 7800. I have removed my GeForce and when I now start up my system I get a long bleep followed by 2 short ones, which I have searched to find means "Display adapter problem (MDA, CGA)" problem. When I have my graphics card in, the system starts up and the GeForce fan is working, however there is no activity on the screen and the hard drive indicator (red LED on front) stops lighting up after 10 seconds approx. Is there just a problem with my graphics card or may it be my RAM etc? Any suggests on how I can trouble shoot this problem or any steps I can take?
Thank-you in advance.
Vince.

Okay. I have a ViewSonic monitor and when I leave my computer on overnight and shake the mouse to take it out of standby and it doesnt. When I pressed a button on the monitor it said that there was no signal. i tried a diffrent moue and it didnt work. I do have a MagicJack but, I do not think that that is the problem. I also think it might be the monitor, and this is the second ive had in about a month. Im pretty good with this stuff but i have no idea, even an idea of an idea of what this could be.

I got a new desk for my computer, so I transfered all my comp stuff into my new desk. Everything was working fine before. I turned it on and it worked great except i needed ajust some cords, so i unplugged everything and rearranged them. After plugging everything back in i turned my computer back on. I got the usual black loading bios screen with white writing. After it goes to the loading windows XP screen (right before one logs on to their XP account my monitor clicks off (as if it were on standby) and displays "DMPS OFF MODE" for a brief while then vanishs. I rebooted in safe mode and i can logon to my XP account and access my desktop. I changed my desktop to blank and my resolution to 800x680 or something like that (i had a problem with that in the past). I then rebooted my computer again and no luck. Anyone able to help me with this problem? I need to access my computer for college.

Thanks in Advance

You are probably on the right track, particularly since monitor worked in safe mode. Go back into settings and lower refresh rate and see if that solves the problem.

I have the above PC and was hoping to increase the Ram size from 2gig to 4 gig.
I had a fruitless chat with Sony tech support (as usual) and they inform me that 2gig is the max for my machine.
The mobo has 4 ram slots 184pin config and at the moment is carrying 4 x 512m memory sticks type PC3200U and was hoping to fit 4x 1gig type PC3200U sticks. Unfortuately the PC takes for ever to boot with 4 x 1gig sticks in.
Can anyone advise if this machine is at its max of 2gig or can the BIOS be pursuaded to see 4gig?

Hopefully I can workout the new 4 x 1gig sticks config, if not I will have to return them to the supplier. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you check whether or not the monitor was on the right input source? If you're using, say, a DVI cable, make sure you choose DVI as the source; some monitors don't do this automatically. Also, obligatory comment about making sure all power pins are connected to the motherboard; that got me once when I was building a machine.

I know that its just my monitor because the sound from the video i was watching continued to play clearly but the screen had frozen and nothing was responding on the screen, including my mouse.

It happened again when i was patching a game and when i rebooted i discovered that even though it had frozen at 60% it jumped straight back to 98%, meaning the programme was still running in the background.

any ideas whats wrong here?

(if this is in the wrong place i do apologies but i am using a Windows 7 OS)

Hi -

If monitor is the known problem - try a different monitor.

Also, update video drivers and any drivers related to video, e.g., webcam.

Hello

I've been having this problem since late june
basically the monitor would shut off with either a sound loop or the sound keeps going for a while then stops and the only way out is a hard reboot
it started happening mostly in games at first but now it happens even while just messing around in the OS (Win Vista x64) I tried different drivers for the GPU, I cleaned the PC from the little dust there was in (fans heatsinks etc), no luck, sometimes I'd go in a game and play for a while then it'd happen or sometimes it'd happen right away, but these lately it's been happening quite more often than it used to.

it's been suggested to me that it's the CPU overheating and that I should get a new Fan for it and some said it was the GPU being faulty (been using this computer for a little over a year now.)

I don't know if it's an overheating problem but it started happening when things got hot in the summer and I don't have Air Conditioning in room the PC is located in.

Please help

Thanks

Hi Guy,

Now here's the deal, my sister just received this computer on loan from a friend. It's a personally built computer. I haven't started it so i have no idea of the specifications and i haven't gotten a chance to talk to the person who gave it to her. So... i have limited information. But the problem is that i connect the monitor and it starts up shows the manufacturer logo, then goes to the Windows loading page and then after that is finish the monitor goes into to standby as if there is no signal going to it. I don't know what that means. The tower (from what i can see from the outside) does have a video card, and that is the connection i am using. When i use the standard connection it came with it doesn't repond from the very beginning. Anywho, any help. The Monitor does work on another computer i have it hooked up my laptop as i'm speaking right now. So i do know the monitor works.

So...

HELP!

Thanks,

HRH

Hello I recently purchased a Radeon X1600 Pro AGP because my old 9800 Pro had literally fried out and died trying to play Crysis. It did play it but it basically put the nail in the coffin for it.

Anyway so I purchased the card, it's an HIS. I even bought a new power supply since it demanded at least 450W. I bought a 500W PS. After hooking everything up I turn it on awaiting success.. my monitor wasn't turning on. The card itself had turned on, the fan and all. I could tell my computer was loading up too like it should have. I take the card to my buddies house who also has an AGP slot.. and what do you know it loads up. I thought it was my monitor so I hooked my PC up to his monitor and well still had the same results.

Is the AGP slot in my board too weak? I mean it's 8x like it demands, I have the power supply and all. I really don't know what's wrong

I tried asking a few friends they said try to change the AGP Apriture and I did.. is there anything else that I possibly need to do in BIOS? I recently bought this motherboard last year, I know they aren't mass producing AGP based motherboards nowadays so I know it can't be out of date..

Here is a link to the card itself

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161005

and a link to my motherboard

I hope someone can help me out here. Thank you for your time.
