Hi Guys.

I have a fresh image of Windows 7 on my laptop but it will crash frequently when connect to a VPN.

I have only tested this over WIFI and have yet to test over a wired connection.

I have attached the correct file but I think some files may be missing as I can't seem to get the Diagnostics Tool to do a full run through.

Any help would be appreciated

A:BSOD When Using VPN on HP Folio 9470M

Hi BinaryStar0647.

Your BSODs are caused by Sunbelt Personal Firewall driver, a regular BSOD causer which is disconnected from the market from December 2011.

Seeing your files I realized that the drivers are used by some other thing, GFI Software Firewall.

ITEMVALUEName [00000016] GFI Software Firewall NDIS IM Filter MiniportAdapter Type Ethernet 802.3Product Type GFI Software Firewall NDIS IM Filter MiniportPNP Device ID ROOT\SB_SBFWIMCLMP\0000Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\sbfwim.sys (5.2.51.0, 117.78 KB (120,608 bytes), 15/08/2013 10:37 AM)
And it is the driver that is failing here.

Code:
fffff880`0358c670 fffff880`00df2110Unable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\SBFWIM.sys, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for SBFWIM.sys

And not alone, but with other components too.

I would suggest you to uninstall GFI Software Firewall.

HiNot sure if my post was noticed as posted over weekend and got no reply so I'm trying again.Trouble started with random system restarts anywhere from 2 to 60min after powering on. That lasted a few days. Than it got worse, it was stopping before system boot with error message: motherboard product information missing. After a soft or hard reset (can't remember now) it stopped displaying anything, only LEDs came on and fan run, all lasting about 5s. I tested RAM in other machine, OK. Pulled HD out, no difference. Put a different HD in, no difference. With DC disconnected and battery out I left CMOS battery disconnected overnight. Now it cycles: LEDs and fan come on for about 5s, all off for 1s and tries again. Any help will be appreciated... Best regards

HI, I have an EliteBook Folio 9470m running WIN 8.1 Ent 64-bit. I have an issue with the Touchpad not working. I have installed the latest driver (sp66111) from HP Support and as a result only the PointStick and associated buttons work and not the Touchpad. Has anyone experienced this and if so what is the fix please? Incidentally, the Touchpad was working at one stage on this OS and ceased to work afterwards. I have re-stalled the OS from scratch withpout success either. Thanks in advance, Vik

A:Folio 9470m Touchpad Not Working

The touchpad might be turned off.Double tap on left top corner of the touchpad to activate/deactivate the pad. Also goto Control Panel>Mouse>Device Settings> Click on the touchpad/Luxpad>Click settings and check the settings. If this dosnt resolve then reinstall drivers from hp.com or from Recovery Manager.Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers:http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03430118

I just recently purchased a Samsung 500GB SSD and I want to add this drive to my existing storage on my HP EliteBook Folio 9470m. The laptop currently has 256GB of SSD stock on it and I'd like to add an additional 500GB. I see that there is a connection that I'm missing. Anyone have the exact part that would service this connection?  Or try this link if pics don't show up  Pictures of what I'm referring to on my notebook  Thank you all!!

We have 2 x Folio 9470m notebook. 1st has 8GB of memory with the upgraded ram using https://www.skhynix.com/eolproducts.view.do?pronm=DDR3+SDRAM&srnm=HMT451S6AFR8A&rk=20&rc=module  The 2nd only has 4Gb of memory and want to upgrade - I found this other memory cheaper - https://www.skhynix.com/eolproducts.view.do?pronm=DDR3+SDRAM&srnm=HMT351S6CFR8C&rk=20&rc=module  My understanding is the main difference is the what I already have is the Low Power (1.35V vs 1.5V). Does anyone know if Folio 9470m will work with this 1.5V version of the memory? Thanks for your help.

A:PC3 vs PC3L memory for Folio 9470m

From the Service Manual: Two customer-accessible/upgradable memory module slots DDR3 PC3-1600-MHz dual channel support Supports 16384-MB of system RAM in the following configurations: ? 16384-MB (8192-MB×2) ? 8192-MB (8192-MB×1 or 4096×2) The specified memory is 1.5 volt. DDR3L will run at either 1.35 or 1.5 volt but I generally avoid mixing voltages. That is why the DDR3L is working for you and I assume you have 2 of the same in the laptop with 8 gigs.  Can you figure out what is in the 4 gig machine now? I would not mix voltages or density...i.e would not have one module with 8 black blocks and one with 4. Try to match the existing 4 gig module is what I am saying...not the exact brand of memory but the characteristics of it.

A:Hp folio 9470m Bios Pass

Hi @ARtan-Krasniqi? Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for posting ! Folio is a lovely business class notebook. Most business class notebooks (including yours, Elitebook and Probook, etc...) have better security than consumer class computers. You will have to contact HP Support for business for assistance on removing the password. Here is how >> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html>> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/business-support.html  HP Business support should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file and instructions which you can use  to reset the password.  Hope this helps. Let me know if you face any issues.

I am the owner of a used Elitebook Folio 9470m laptop that I procured from my friend. It is very lightweight laptop, and I really love it.Unfortunately, the laptop came with admin password on the BIOS. I already contacted him, and he has no idea what it is. This was his father laptop, and he also has no idea about it. So, I'm left here with this laptop, but no way to tinker around with the BIOS. Obviously this isn't good! All sources lead me to this area where can I contact HP support to try to solve my problem.  I opened up two cases.  First one, case ID 4779632926 and did not get response. Second, 4779725521 and this is response i got. " I  really apologize for the inconvenience, unfortunately we will not be able to support this case."  I tried to reply to this case with subject <4779725521> and then I received message that case is closed. We are sorry, but we were unable to process your request.

The Case with ID "4779725521" is closed or does not exist and cannot be updated. PLS if there is any chance to solve this, let me know.  I can provide any information you need. Thank you.

Hi, I work in tech support for a company and one of our enterprise laptops mysteriously has lost its "tattooed" information.  The user who had this laptop left the company and when we went to wipe it we discovered this issue.  Upon starting the machine the HP splash screen has in red text on the top left of the screen "Manufactoring Program Mode set 1 of 10" after the splash screen a "Product Information not Valid" screen appears.  It reads: Product Information not validThe following product information programmed into the system board is missing or invalidSYSTEM BOARD (00A)Product Name Product Serial NumberProduct SKUProduct FamilySystem Board CT NumberENTER - Continue Startup For more information, please visit: www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup I know that there is an HP utility tool to "tattoo" this information back onto the machine.  As an enterprise that uses 95% HP equipment (our monitors, mouse, keyboards are the only non-HP equipment) I think that the tech support deserves these types of tools to troubleshoot issues.  Sure the machine boots normally if you hit enter, but it's alarming/scandalous to be presented with that product information not valid screen when powering on a machine.  Bonus points to whoever can provide some reasoning as to how this occurred.

Try testing the hard drive and the memory. To test the hard drive go to Computer and right-click on the C drive, select Properties, tools, check now. Set a disk check on the next start up. Let the check finish. To test the memory go here:
http://www.memtest.org/
Download version 5.01 and burn it to a CD or DVD. Boot the laptop with this disk and run Memtest86 for at least 7 passes. No errors are allowed...

I am experiencing the following issue and hope that someone in the forum as an idea / suggestion. When I have the screen connected via via display port cable with the docking station and I have my laptop docked, I dont get any signal and the screen keeps black. This is independent of the Operating System - I used Windows 7, Windows 8. When my laptop is docked but I attach the display port cable directly to the laptop it works without any problem. I have also realized that with other displays 23'' or 24'' the setup with the docking station works without a problem. So it has to be a cominbination between UltraSlim Docking Station and ZR2740w screen. Any advise what else should be tried?

Update:  After calling HP technical support I and being bounced among various clueless offshore tech support reps, I finally landed on the US-based workstation support department.  Justin looked up the problem and identified it as a known issue and is replacing my monitor cable with one that HP says will work.   Also, in the meantime there is a workaround that I had figured out.  If you don't use the displayport port on the ultraslim docking station but pug the cable directly into the computer it works fine.  There is some inconvienence associated with this as you have to plug it in every time you dock and unplug it every time you undock (and of course the cable always falls behind the desk while you are doing this), but it is okay as a solution while I am waiting for the new cable to arrive.  Will update this post after it arrives and report whether it works.

Hello, After upgrading from Win7 to Win10, my system got stuck when uninstalling MS Office, and nothing worked anymore (File Explorer etc.). I tried to make a factory reset, which got stuck, too, and no OS would be detected anymore. Then I tried to reinstall Win10 64 bit, which brought be a bit of trouble. I have an HP Folio 9470 with a 320 HDD and a 32 GB (I believe) mSATA. During my Win10 reinstall, I ran into trouble and then deleted all partitions on both drives and reformatted everything because I thought that was the method for a clean reinstall. First, I installed Win10 on the 320 HDD, but my BIOS did not appear to allow this (although harddisk was in the legacy boot options), which the Win10 installer had already warned me about, so I could not boot from my HDD and thus could not start Win10. Next, I reformatted everything and installed Win10 on my mSATA. However, the Win10 installer and later Windows 10 only showed a size of 11GB for the mSATA. The installation itself already took up 11GB and there was no space left for necessary drivers and updates, and Windows 10 malfunctioned. My feeling is that the mSATA was larger than just 11GB, but that a part of it is not shown any more after deleting partitions and reformatting. After multiple reinstalls, I do not know what to do any more. Any idea what how I might get a functioning version of Windows 10 on my HP Folio 9470m? Best regardsFrank

So i'm using a Folio 9470m at work on a 2013 Ultraslim Docking station with 2 Display Port connectors, but if i attach two screens to those it only displays them as one device and mirrors the image on both screens. Furthermore if i go into the screen and resolution settings, both identify as screen 1, but i can set 3840x1080 instead of 1920x1080 and at that moment the picture will span over both screens as one. The downside to this is that the login screen, windows i open for the first time, they're all gonne appear in the middle where the bezels are, it handles them as one bigger screen and not as 2 screens that extend each other. I need them to be detected as 2 seperate screens, and so far i have had no success. Has anyone experienced this or knows a solution? I really don't want to connect the second screen via VGA. Can the folio handle 2 display port connections on a dock? Is this maybe the cause?

When I bootup the message reads "Invalid system configuration" - run configuration utilty, press 1 to resume or f2 to enter setup. Pressing 1 takes you into windows. Everything is fine except I can't dial out.Larry I read your advice in the archives. It helped now I can dial out. However the Invalid system configuration message still appears when I bootup.Any suggestions?

A:Invalid system configuration

This can mean a few things. There is a resource conflict of some sort, but the exact sort...

Press F2 to enter setup. Many systems will pop a message up right there telling you what is wrong.

There isn't another message is there? Like 3F8 resource conflict, invalid configuration, press F2?

You said you couldn't dial - so, in Windows Device Manager check what IO and IRQ your Modem and COM ports are set to. When you go into setup with F2 make sure none of the COM ports in there are set to the same numbers.

Hello,

I am having intermittent connection issues to the Internet when connecting via my ethernet adapter. My modem connects to my router (D-Link DIR-825) which connects to a Sling Media Powerline kit (see here) via my electrical system which then connects to my ethernet adapter (nVidia nForce network adapter).

I can connect to my router wirelessly perfectly fine. However, when using my ethernet adapter, it will intermittently stop working every ~10-20 minutes or so for a period of ~10-20 minutes. If I run the Windows 7 network troubleshooter it informs that my connection does not have a valid IP configuration and that the default gateway is not available, but it cannot fix either of these problems. Eventually it seems to sort itself out, but it is only temporary. Previously, this network configuration had been working perfectly fine for nearly a year.

It looks like you want to use your lan connection so I would disable your wifi and if that fixes your problem search this site for how to change the metric of your lan just in case you want to enable your wifi for some reason set your lan to metric 1 and your wifi to something higher like 10

Hi, newbie here - first post, hope it's not a duplicate and is in the right place!!

I have a Dell 4550, when I boot it up it comes to a screen saying "Invalid configuration information - please run setup program"

I then get the option to hit F1 to continue or F2 to run setup utility. Ususally, I will go into the setup utility and make the date and time correct and then carry on. This will fix the problem for that day but then the same thing will happen the next day.

Can anyone shed any light on a possible long term solution please?

Thanks in advance

Hi all,
So I walked in to my office one day and found that I could not connect to my work network. I work for a small company, and we've got 3 computers and a printer hard-wire networked through one router.

I can currently connect wirelessly, but we'd like to be hard-wired. I've tried setting a static IP, disabling IPv6, disabling IPv6 and IPv4 firewalls on the router, disabling the computer's firewall, replacing the physical cable, tried a tcp/ip reset and even bought and installed a new network adapter. Nothing has worked.

I know the drill, so I've attached my IPCONFIG print-out and a screen shot of my router's DCHP Client list. My computer is Geomancer.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate, SP 1.
Thanks!

Network:

Verison Router w/ DHCP 192.168.1.X
DLINK access point using DLINK router w/ DHCP 192.168.0.X
Cisco access point using DLINK router w/ DHCP 192.168.0.X

Problem:

New Toshiba notebook connects to Verizon router without difficulty, but cannot connect to DLINK or CISCO without "LIMITED" usage (IP configuration error) [With a lot of reset, renew and Win8 troubleshooting it will connect to the DLINK for about an hour, but the magic must be repeated after an hour or so]

History:

4 other Notebooks connect succesfully to any of the 3 access points
3 Phones connect succesfully to any of the 3 access points
2 Tablets connect succesfully to any of the 3 access points

Reason for DLINK or Cisco Connection:

Verizon router is outside of the local network containing shared drives.

A:Invalid IP configuration with a different twist

It may help to add the secondary subnet, IP, etc. to the advanced IPv4 TCP/Ip settings of which ever NIC you are using on the Toshiba, this is sometimes required when connecting to different subnets with the same NIC, although I'm not completely sure why it's not connecting to the other access points like the other notebooks.

The Toshiba may have one of those so called trial anti virus software's creating problems or some of the preinstalled Toshiba bloatware may be causing problems here.

Those other two routers may require a firmware update to work with Windows 8.

You might try setting up a single subnet through the Verizon router, turning off DHCP on the other routers so they can pick up an IP from the Verizon routers DHCP, though this doesn't suit your needs it may help to narrow down the problem.

Hello,

I recently built two PCs. The master uses an ASUS p9x79 Deluxe mobo; the slave uses an ASUS p9x79 mobo. Both have an Intel 82579V Gigabit LAN Controller. I connected the two with a crossover cable and was able to share data via Remote Desktop, but I was unable to identify the "unidentified network". I have tried changing the network location to both a work location and a home location, but neither attempt successfully allowed me to properly identify the network (i.e. change the name, change the icon, etc.) Then, I had a so-called IT specialist come over. He scratched his head for an hour and couldn't figure out the problem either. He suggested that I buy a switch, which I did. I bought a Cisco five-port Gigabit switch. Each computer connects to the switch with a CAT 6 patch cable. Unfortunately, this did not resolve the issue. I am only trying to connect these two PCs to each other; not to the internet, and not to anything else. When I use the Win7 troubleshooter it has informed me that there is an "invalid IP configuration". An automatic IP assignment as well as a static IP assignment has yielded the same result (i.e. an "unidentified network") The static IP addresses that I used are as follows: Master = 192.168.5.10; Slave = 192.168.5.11; both have a subnet of 255.255.255.0. The firewall has been turned off on both computers, and I do not have the Bonjour software installed. Could it have to do with the slave computers certification? ... Read more

A:Troubleshooting Invalid IP Configuration

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

Since no one has answered your post - I'll take a stable at it.

It seems that W7 wants to see (communicate with) a gateway IP address. I've not actually tried this (hence my hesitation to post in your thread) but you can try this:

Master = 192.168.5.10 and a gateway of 192.168.5.11

Slave = 192.168.5.11 and a gateway of 192.168.5.10

That might let you change some of the things you want to change - or maybe not.

Hello,
I am having intermittent connection issues to the Internet when connecting via my ethernet adapter.
When I run ipconfig /all in the command prompt, I get the following relevant portions when it is not working:

Hello everyone! This is an issue that has been annoying me for a LONG time and I'd just be ecstatic if you guys could help me somehow.

My Internet works pretty well, except that around 3 times a day or so, it drops. I run the Windows 7 troubleshooter to fix it. Every time, it says "wireless network connection doesn't have a valid ip configuration" and then "fixed" and the Internet resumes working properly. Although it's easy to fix, I wish this problem didn't happen at all in the first place because it can be frustrating if I'm in the middle of a skype call or game.

Any ideas? Also the Internet stops working randomly like this for all devices in the house, not just my computer, so I know it's not my PC.

A:Internet drops because of invalid IP configuration?

do you still have a problem

you say it stops for all devices - any device connected by cable to the router - and does that stop working

if you do not have any devices connected by cable
I would suggest you connect by cable and see if this is an issue as well

if the cable connection does not disconnect - then its a wireless issue and post an xirrus screen shot please

Please make a note of the status of the lights on the modem and on the router when working normally - post that light status here.
Now when the internet disconnects make a note of the status of the lights for the modem and router here again. also note which have changed.

Please post back here the make and exact model of the router and if you have a separate modem, the make and exact model of the modem.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply

As per a lot of other people on here, I'm having issues with connecting my desktop PC to my BigPond router. It will connect via wireless (have an installed D-Link DWA525 wireless card) but will not connect via LAN.

I've changed the IP, DNS and Default gateways to the same as the other working PC's in the house, but still no luck. The mobo uses Realtek GBE Family PCI-E controllers, but for some reason it won't move off 10Mbps (even when I try to tell it to change this).

I have tried new drivers, and have tried uninstalling drivers and letting windows install its own. None have worked. I've disabled V6, didn't work.

I run with a Dell Dimension 4600C, with Windows XP version 5.1.2600. Lately, my computer has taken to shutting down. But it doesn't shut down and start up again. The computer turns itself off, but the computer indicates that power is still going to the machine. I can't start the computer up without unplugging the CPU from its power source (an APC SurgeArrest outlet bank) and waiting for at least a minute so it won't shut down on me again.

Usually the computer will shut down as soon as it's rebooted once I've done this. I've taken to restarting the computer normally to prevent it from shutting down for at least twenty to thirty minutes.

Most of the time the computer will just run normally after the shut down (until it shuts down again). At other times it gives me a DOS message saying there's 'invalid configuration information' and it gives me the chance to run setup. I ran setup once, but didn't change anything.

Is this a RAM problem or a hardware problem? I'm inclined to say it's XP doing this, but I'm computer illiterate and have absolutely no idea what to do about this.

I appreciate any help you can give me! Thanks!

Hi everybody, I have another question. Checking the system with the software Piriform Speccy I found out something weird about the motherboard: the model is labelled as INVALID (U3E1).Installing Speccy in order to do this check is the only and very first thing I done since I first opened this notebook, since I found something about this matter earlier in the internet, and I did not found an official answer yet. I specify that I found out the same problem with a first notebook Lenovo M30-70 two week ago, and I returned it. So, what is that mean?   Thanks for your helpKind regards Riccardo

A:Notebook M30-70 - Invalid Motherboard

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Well someone may come along with a different opinion, but the way I see it, it appears to me that Speccy is having is either having difficulty reading the information about the motherboard or doesn't know how to interpret the information it is receiving and thus provides a generic response.  Does that mean there is a problem with the computer?  No.  Through the years I have found that third party utilities that audit the system hardware aren't always 100% accurate and may provide mis-information.  If the computer is performing like is should then I wouldn't be too concerned.  Did you by chance pose your question over in the Piriform forums since they are the makers of Speccy?

Hi all,

I have a problem with my internet connection on my PC.

The internet connection works fine, until I let my PC idle for about an hour or so. The connection then dies, but can be repaired by the Windows Troubleshooter which fixes the error message about the invalid IP configuration.

I've reset the modem and the router many times. Did not help.

Preface: I'm about intermediate tech-skill-level. I really appreciate you taking the time to read and maybe reply to this. Thank you.

Problem:
My work laptop will only connect to the wireless connection at work (when it does this it has a 172.xxx IP) but it will not connect to other wireless networks (when it tries, it has a weird 169.xxx IP). I get the error "Invalid IP Configuration."

Story:
I got a refurb Gateway NV53 laptop for work (wireless card is an Atheros AR5B93).
It didn't connect to any networks: work, home or coffeeshop.
I took it to the IT guy. He scratched his head and couldn't figure it out - then he gave my account admin rights and it connected to our work network. I took it home - same problem as when it had no admin rights.

I fiddled with IP settings for the last two hours. I tried various configurations of no IPV6, static IPs, and making sure my security settings were all correct. It's secured WPA2 (on the router it's WPA2 or WPA, automatic, but I tried both just WPA and just WPA2 on my laptop, no configuration works).

At the end of it all, what I learned is that if I set it to auto IP settings, my subnet mask and DNS server don't fill properly (my router is 255.255.254.0, and auto sets my laptop's to 255.255.0.0) and it gives me the weird 169.xxx IP address. If I set everything static and myself, matching up DNS and gateway and subnet and giving it any IP (I tried 192.168.0.109, 106, 2, and 192.168.2.1) it still will not connec... Read more

When you are back on your work network you need to make sure your settings where the same as before. When this is all fixed you will be able to go back and forth between work and home without any problems with an alternate configuration setup.

Also if you get a chance please post a screenshot of the dhcp page on your router.

I am using Win 98 2nd Edit. I have a Pentium 111 600 w 28 Gigs. Under the Config screen I see a yellow pencil, the box is unchecked and it reads Devic =C:\Windows\Himen.sys (yellow Pencil) rem C:\windows\emm386.exe REM Header. I notice when I start up on the black screen it says something about 386 Drivers not installed. Pls help. Thx

A:System Configuration Utility Config System

Can you list those lines out individually? It all ran together so I'm not sure what goes where.

Is it REM Header for instance?

Also, is the computer working ok, other than "saying something about 386 drivers"?

Acer Aspire M1100 AM1100-E1402A
Mfg Date 2008\03\07
Vista Home Premium 32-bit

It was running OK, but getting a bit old and a bit slow. I upgraded to a W7 desktop, but wanted to keep this one playing around with.

Ran System Recovery 2 or 3 times using the Alt-F10 method. First time, I wanted to avoid loading bloatware so ran msconfig early on, went to Startup to uncheck Acer Launch and stuff like that. Windows Update worked until SP1. Just couldn't get SP1 to install, including when I downloaded it from the web.

Then I ran System Recovery and let the bloatware run. It stalled at 9/11. Again, Windows Update worked until SP1.

Then I tried System Recovery using discs, instead of Alt-F10. It failed for some reason. I have a couple other System Recovery discs from an laptop and an eMachine laptop. I tried them with the same result. Recovery starts, writes over the C drive, then fails.

The message is:
The system registry contains invalid file paths. Installation cannot proceed. This system image was applied without guaranteeing that drive-letter assignments would match across computers.

So now I'm stuck.

I googled the error message, but generally ended up in discussion boards that are over my head. I think I saw some discussion about partition. I have a foggy memory that this desktop may have arrived with the HDD partitioned into something like 120 and 200 GB partitions. I think I removed the partition. I wonder if this has contributed to the problem? Then... Read more

A:Vista System Recovery failure - "system registry contains invalid file paths" - canno

The vista image extracts to the temporary drive letter D.

If you use a regular installation dvd and MS standard setup.exe, it will fix the os registry letter correctly. (Defaults to the first letter i.e. C as A and B are reserved for floppies )

If you are trying to restore from a factory image, you will have trouble because there is now another os on the machine.

I have a script I use for it.

You could get it to work , but it is a lot of mucking around.

It is just easier to use a Vista install dvd ( not the same as your factory recovery image ), boot it up, and install to your desired partition.

Its either a faulty fan or a faulty thermal sensor on the board. You need to call tech support to get a case loged to get the issue resolved.

I'm sure this is a common problem, but it has never happened to me before and I am just a step or two above beginner. When I turn on my computer, the Gateway screen comes on and it tries to start the boot process. Instead of booting up, the message comes on: "Invalid system disk" "Replace the disk, and then press any key". There is no disk or CD in the drives. I have tried several times and have turned off the power to the computer, waited 30 seconds, and then turned the power back on. Same message comes on. I have a Gateway Model GP6-450 with Windows 98.

A:Invalid system disk

Although this sounds like it's totally off the wall, but if your computer has a floppy disk drive, look for a disk in the drive.

If not, I think I would make sure of your BIOS settings as to which drive to boot and that it still even "sees" the drive.

If that does not turn up anything, I would then find out what manufacturer hard drive you have and get their testing utility from their respective support site.

Test the drive and make sure it tests good.

Good Luck,

Hi guys am new to this website and a complete noob with computers.
Every time I turn on my pc I get the error message invalid system disk, Disk boot failure, Insert system disk and press enter

I found this website
support.microsoft.com/kb/128730
which gives out some solution but didnt understand a thing. tried looking manual book (M2N-SLI Deluxe Motherboard) that didnt help either because am not sure what I should be looking for.

I tried to put the windows vista setup disk, the vista loading bar pop up showed that it was loading. the it seemed to have froze.

I also noticed that when I go into the bios setup menu, in the main section this is how it looks like

Primary IDE Master [none]
Primary IDE Slave [none]
Sata 1 [none]
Sata 2 [none]
Sata 3 [none]
Sata 4 [TSSTCorp CDDVDw]
Sata 5 [none]
Sata 6 [none]

I thought that it should have the name of my hdd in one of the square brakets.

Can anyone help?

Thanks
from Omighty the noob

A:invalid system disc

Hello omighty,
It looks like the Bios is not recognising the HDD.
Remove all power leads, remove the CMOS battery for ten minutes and try again.
Also, make sure the leads and data cables are attached to the HDD too.
Give this a go and post your results, good luck.

Yesterday I left my computer on for about 3 hours, when I returned the screen was black with the a message *First time this happened)

“INVALID System Disk Replace Disk and then press any key”

There is or was no 3 1/2 floppy disk in the computer.

Every time I hit any key nothing would happen.
When I would reboot I would get to the same screen with the same message and nothing would happen.

Then I would reboot again and when that screen would come our I would insert a 3 1/2
Floppy into the computer and the computer would start up.

So now the only time I can get the computer to start up I must insert a 3 1/2 floppy
What can I do to correct this problem?

Thank You

A:Invalid system disk

Hi and welcome. Go into the bios setup and either change the boot order from floppy first, to hard drive, or take the floppy disk out of the boot order.

I am an A+ student and got a hold of an old Packard Bell (WIN 95, 1G HD, 32 MG RAM) to tinker with to learn more about the inner workings of a computer. When I powered it up, everything worked great; floppy, HD, CD-ROM, etc. No problems at all. I powered it down and took it all apart - removed power cables, IDE cables, removed drives, RAM, heat sink/processor, power supply, etc; had it down to the bare case. I then put it all back together the same way I found it (so I thought). When I powered it back up, it detected all my drives fine, however, it gave me the following message: "Invalid System Disk. Replace disk and hit any key." I hit a key and continued to get the same message. The green floppy light remains lit. There is no floppy in the drive and no CD in the CD-ROM. Here is what I did to troubleshoot the problem: (all have failed).

1. Checked the floppy cable. It was not reversed and the correct end was in the mother board and back of floppy.
2. Ensured the #1 Pins were in the correct position.
3. Checked the IDE cables for both HD and CD, both were correctly positioned and in the correct plug (CD and HD both have their own cable).
4. Changed the boot sequence of the floppy to several different positions.
5. Disabled the floppy in the BIOS.
6. Unplugged the molex and IDE cable from the floppy AND disabled floppy in BIOS.
7. Tried to re-boot using a floppy re-boot disk.
8. Disconnected power and IDE cables for BOTH CD and HD, and ... Read more

This might occurr if you are set to start from cd-rom. In bios set to

This could happen if you have a boot-sector virus also.

A:Invalid system disck

Hi
You get that message when you have left a floppy in the drive when you start up. Because it is not a proper boot disk it will tell you this, so check the obvious first and see if the floppy disk is in there.
A friend brought his laptop to me with exactly the same problem, and I ended up having to replace the operating system. I found out later that he had downloaded a registry cleaner that assured him it would not delete anything that windows needed to run, but it seems like it did.
There may be an easier way out, but this was what I had to do as I am not that advanced in pc repair.

Cheers

A:Invalid System Disk???

And if you have a floppy drive, is it empty? Do you have a flash drive hooked up?

There could actually be several causes besides the obvious. First thing, remove ALL your Cd drives and HDD's (Besides your main bootable drive). See if you continue to get the error. If you are, boot the system with a bootdisk, and run chkdsk /r to check and repair any bad sectors on the HDD.

Secondly, just to complicate things, it could also be a corrupted file or a virus on the drive itself.

Let us know how it turns out.

Ok, i really need help to figure out how to fix this cause i think i have tried everything.

I wanted to install a new OS besides my old OS (XP) so i could try it out then maybe uninstall it later, or replace this one with my older one. To do this i had created a new logical partition with PartitionMagic.

I set the partition to active right after it was created then restarted my computer. The new partition was created fine but i cannot install the new system disk. All i get is a message saying this:

Code:
Loading PBR for descriptor 4...done.

Invalid system disk
Replace the disk, and then press any key
No matter what i do i cannot get back to my previous partition to start windows.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks for looking

My XP desktop was in the middle of running CHKDSK when there was a power outage.
Since then the computer will not start-up. It begins the usual POST, recognizing the drives then it comes to a screen saying Invalid System Disk, Replace the disk and then press any key.
There are no disks in any of the CD/DVD drives.
I have tried the recovery disk and even a full version XP disk, but nothing seems to be "seen". I get the same screen every time.
I am thinking that this must be something simple? But I haven't been able to figure it out.

A:invalid system disk

First reset your bios setting for boot order to:
Hard disk
Drive A
CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
and then reboot, to see if it loads.
if that doesnt work, try a System Restore. Boot from "safe mode with command prompt". by pressing F8 and entering the /boot menu.

Once you have loaded the command shell in Safe Mode type:

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

Restore to a date listed before your problem, and see if it reboots.

If that doesnt work,

Place your xp disk into the cdrom tray and reboot, select repair, and your version of windows (if more than one on drive). In the command prompt, type

chkdsk c: /p /r and press enter.

Reboot after that finishes, and see if you can load windows.

Hello,
Hopefully..I can explain what I want to correct on my computer. At one time , I had two dialup modems installed on my computer. The reason for that was the sole purpose of downloading some rather large files. With windows xp, you can setup your computer so you can bind two separate phone lines together, to give you a much faster download speed. I got to the point that I really didn't download much anymore, so I un-installed the second modem, and removed it from my computer. That part went ok, when I checked in my system information area under modems, the modem that I had removed wasn't displayed there anymore. However, the original modem that came installed in my system was displayed twice. On one of the entries though, it doesn't reference a irq# that is assigned to it. I have tried un-installing this modem, have actually removed it from my computer, re-installed it, and I still see two entries for it. Actually...as I remember, when I had the modem out, and re-booted my computer, I went into system information under modems, and there was STILL a listing for the modem that wasn't even in the computer. Is there anyway to solve this little problem ?
Thanks
