Wifi upgrade y510p

Q: Wifi upgrade y510p

Hey, I know there are already a few topics with the same subject, however none have the exact same situation as mine as most are US based. I too have a powerful Lenovo Y510P SLI with a Intel Centrino N2230 wifi card. I am buying a new router for my student room and since I want to buy things that can last for a few years, opted for a wifi AC router (probably an Asus one). But, this laptop won't support it... I looked in the technical maintaince manual to find which wifi cards are supported for the Y510P, there is one Wifi AC card for the Y410P, but according to various posts will also work in the Y510P as they share the same BIOS whitelist. I don't want to flash the BIOS with a custom modded one which removes the whitelist. (I flashed a desktop Asus motherboard to run OSX, went great, runs well, but I can't experiment with this laptop, need it for university.). So I Googled and Ebayed the partnumer and this one came up: Ebay Link, which says "Only for Lenovo/IBM laptops such as Y510P" should be fine right? Only thing is it is 40 USD, Dutch customs will charge 21% on top of it so that makes 48 USD, and the Dutch postal office will charge anywhere between 15-20 USD for paperwork for importing goods. So that makes an total of 68 USD... so that almost doubles the cost of the upgrade... I used the FRU number for this card: WLAN, WiFi AC+BT4.0, Ltn BCM4352+20702 2x2AC+BT4.0 HMC which is 20200381, and put in the search engine in the "part number" field of the Lenovo Service Shop which is EU based, so I don't have to import anything. And the above image is the result, it's in Dutch but in English it says: Network, MSN 35015768, WLAN Module. Remaining stock, 24 months warranty. The price, excluding shipping cost and put inside shopping basket. What do you guys think is this the same module? MSN 3501768 is suspicious... it is not the same as the FRU number... try to order it? Or is this just a wrong part... Thanks for your help! EDIT: Forget to mention that the Lenovo Service Shop sells original Lenovo parts, it's powered by Medion, whose parent company is ... Lenovo, so the shop is ok.

Have you tried to find that one?

Hello there everyone,I am experiencing a strange problem with my y510p. I can properly connect to the internet via wifi, I have sorted out a few config problems which prevented me from connecting, but recently I am getting worried by the network card's behavior. I have recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 (I don't think that's the cause of my issue, but just in case). I noticed that my throughput was, according to Intel's PROSet Wireless WiFi Connection Utility, of about 130 mbps on wireless-n, at about 1 meter away (seriously) from the modem, which is clearly able to do high-speed 802.11n, because the model is kind of new. This modem came from the ISP with two different SSID-s active, and it's able to do 4, so I thought that I could merge the two active networks (set the same SSID and settings on both). Then I set 3 SSID-s active (all identical), then 4, then just 1, and I kept testing this way to see if I could get 270mbps. Not a chance, it stayed at 130. Eventually I found the solution. The system upgrade had set the network adapter settings back to 20mhz only, so I set it back to auto and I started to get 270mbps (intermittent speed) again. But... that didn't sort everything out. I was running an Ookla Speed Test and getting normal speeds when I noticed a slight clicking noise coming from the laptop. And it was absolutely NOT the hard disk. I could hear the hard disk making its usual sounds, and the other noise came from another side of the computer. The noise stopped wh... Read more

hi M B.,

Welcome to the Forums.

That's indeed odd if the clicking noise is comming from the wireless card. One thing that you can try is to re-seat the wireless antenna cables (see page 42 of the hardware maintenance manual).

As for the hard drive, to ensure that it's not the one that's making the clicking noise, try to disable the wireless connection run a diagnostic on the drive (i.e. via HD Tune) or put a load on it (i.e. via CrystalDiskmark) and observe.

Hi,I may be repeating the topic, but recently i had to revert back to Win 8.1, as the Track pad and later on keyboard also stopped working. Further I started to get random BSOD's always  giving new driver errors. So finally switched back to Win 8.1.Does anyone has a workaround for this so that I can upgrade to Win 10, as I think 31 July is the last date  for upgrading to Win 10 from Win 8.1, or stick with Win 8..1.Appreciate any help regarding this.

Hello, for professional purposes I plan to upgrade the existing 8gbof available RAM on my laptop to 12gb or 16gb, depending on price range. I know next to zero about RAM consideration for optimal compability/performance. I uploaded two images of the currently installed RAM cards. There are still 2 slots available, could someone point me to recommended/compatible RAM cards? (If I can order it from amazon, the better). Thank you for the support.?

Hello, I'm new to Lenovo and I'm about to buy one of the Y510P (59373392) with single graphics and the 1TB version. The last question I've got is whether it is possible to install an additional SSD via the DVD slot-in. I don't need the DVD drive, so it would be wonderful to install a 128GB or 256GB SSD. I've read some topics and saw that the motherboard doesn't have a mSATA connection but it must have a NGFF connection if I'm right. Since I'm not very experienced with laptops, here are a few more questions 1) If it is possible to install an additional SSD, what products are available?2) Where do I get the UltraBay adapter?3) Would it then be possible to make the SSD the bootable drive? Thanks in advance!

A:Y510P 59373392: SSD upgrade via UltraBay?

hi thewavelength,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

You can use a caddy for this.
http://hddcaddy.com/en/lenovo-ibm-hdd-caddy/432-lenovo-ideapad-y510p-hdd-caddy.html

But the SSD you can use here is a 2.5 SSD not the msata one.
  this kind :
       http://www.crucial.com/store/ssd.aspx

ODD can be set as primary boot and should be able to boot windows from it.
BIOS has to be set to legacy.

Hope this helps,
Cheers!

I'm just wondering if it's possible. I've been told by some people that you can't change that stuff on Laptops. The current specs have my Display Driver crashing no matter which one I use(Please don't try to tell me how to fix this issue because I'm past the point of trying). So I'm trying to figure out if I can upgrade my CPU, thanks!

Hopefully this'll help some people thinking of upgrading . NOTE: Some people are having issues with wireless cards after upgrading. I'm not sure of solution yet, but I would recommend predownloading the Windows 10 drivers from Intel's website before the upgrade. - So far drivers have not solved issue. Not sure of solution yet. Everything went smoothly for me. All fiels, programs, drivers, and settings transferred from my Windows 7 install to Windows 10 (and also from 8.1 to 10 on my Dell, so I assum it'll work on a Lenovo too). Upgrade process was painless and took about 20 minutes. Only temporary issue was video drivers, but that got solved later. Make sure you check for updates in Windows Update right after you upgrade; there's a day one patch they put out and it fixes quite alot of bugs (1GB of them actually). This fixed any driver issues I had and made my screen resolution normal, as it was previously running 800x600 or something, so don't freak out if your screen look weird at first. It automatically changes your default programs though, so if you use Chrome or Firefox you'll need to change it back to that from the new Edge browser. Otherwise, most settings were imported. So far I have found nothing that is incompatible with Windows 10 on my computer; however, beware that you will need to reinstall your anti-virus when Windows prompts you, as it is uninstalled prior to the upgrade. Doesn't cause any issues though and your computer is not at risk ... Read more

I purchased my Y510P back in Q2 2014, it was already on Win 8 when I purchased it. Everything was working fine even after the  SLI issue with  Win 8.1 which was fixed through a BIOS update that was available here in their product support page. During that time I worked more on other things and didnt really notice anything about the GPU and its update. I was able to update my laptop to Win 10 (back in Q4 2015) and I'm currently unsure if it already installed the anniversary update. Recently, I tried some few games and noticed that the second GPU seems not be working during any games I've launched. I ran Unigine Heaven Benchmark and seems that the SLI is detected, checked the device manager both hardwares are detected, and updated to the latest GPU driver. But still seems to be not working. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

They're RAM sticks, not cards, and they're fairly easy to change out. I would suggest looking for something in the 1866mhz speed, though I think you need lower voltage memory. So I'd get something 1.35v or lower.

Hello, I only found out after purchasing the Y510P laptop that it for some strange reason does not support 5Ghz networks, only 2.4Ghz. This results in me having insanely slow connection every single night around peak hours (7-11pm), and I'm unable to do anything like watching movies, playing games or download stuff. Does anyone know exactly how to upgrade the wireless card on this laptop so it supports 5Ghz networks? Do I have to go out and buy another wireless card, or is it software upgrades like drivers only? I'm not a computer major so a walkthrough would be appreciated. Thanks.

I upgraded my friends HP laptop to Windows 10. The issue now is I can't enable Wifi. The card is recognized correctly in Device manager and no issues is found with it. It looks like it is fine. However in the Network Settings WLAN is set to "Off" and when I try to turn it on it always jumps right back to off. eg. I can't enable it.

HP is now help as they clearly state any laptop bought prior to specific date in 2013 will not get any driver updates from their side for windows 10. (Guys, never buy HP again please...). And updating through device manager only tells me it's the newest driver available.

The Wifi card i Broadcom 4313GN card. I searched for win 10 drivers but did not find anything. They only offer linux drivers on their homepage...

So can anyone either provide a solution to the issue or link to a win 1' driver for this wifi card?

A:Dreaded Win10 WiFi Issue: Can't enable WiFi after Upgrade

I had a similar issue were I was stuck in Aeroplane mode on a cleanly installed W10. Turned out I had to uninstall it from the HID's in Device manager. It's worth checking that he's not stuck in it too. Search for drivers in Windows 7, from the HP website and you'll most likely resolve the issue.

My dv7-4180us has a Broadcom bgn mini PCI wifi card and only gets 72 Mbps on my home network. I'm running agn+ac on my network. I understand that the wifi options are limited by the whitelist in the BIOS. I will probably wind up going with a USB adapter, but I would prefer an internal. I have a Dell E6500 with Intel Centrino 5100 card that connects at 150- 200 Mbps and I would be happy with that speed on the dv7. Which of the compatible wifi cards for my dv7 will provide the best wifi performance? I was going to get the Intel Centrino 1000, but it maxes out at 150 Mbps, which is also the claimed max for the Broadcom card I already have.

Same here. Ever since I upgraded I've been having major issues. I'm kicked off or have limited connectivity every few seconds to every few hours (max).

I've been troubleshooting the connection and sometimes it works/sometimes doesn't. It often tells me my default gateway is not available. Other times it resets my wifi.
Sometimes turning airplane mode on and off works.

I've tried almost all of the quick fixes posted in various forums: changing power settings, changing adapter settings, disabling ethernet and bluetooth, etc. csf scan showed nothing. Anyone come up with a fix?? (this includes YOU microsoft!! since I'm pretty sure it was your update) Speaking of which, I'm going to try to undo the update to 8.1 next. Just not sure if it's a good idea since it took hours for it to install.

I was wondering if i WAS able to replace it with stronger WiFi MiniPCI card ?

I dont like the idea using the PCMICA cards.

can i just order one and flip out and put the new one in?

Old Spec:
802.11B?G

New SPEC:
802.11A/B/G
or
802.11A/B/G/N

Was there a possible if i can get it working properly ?

I was trying to upgrade it to vista, but 2100A is not supported.

A:WIFI MINI PCI Upgrade

bushwhacker, it is possible to upgrade with newer wifi mpci cards. I have one D600 as well and I tried many different cards. they all work as long as you find a driver. at the moment I run it with a Dell 1470 Dual Band card which worked ok with vista when I played around a bit with it.
hope this helps?

Hi I have a HP Stream Notebook 11-d010na and I have erased Windows and Installed Suse Linux on it.Unfortunately there is no good Linux driver for the native Broadcom wifi card.So I have bought already 2 intel wifi cards, advance-n  and wireless-n. Both do not work although there are good Linux drivers for these cards. I was wondering if HP has a whitelist for wifi cards. If so how can I find out what is on this list or how can I disable this list. Thanks a lot.

Hi ,

I have a HP Notebook : Wndows 8.1 ( 64-bit )

My question is :

Can I upgrade the wifi card from a standard Wifi 802.11 b/g/n card , to a 802.11ac/b/g/n wifi card ?
If yes , can you please tell me which 802.11ac/b/g/n wifi card would be an HP Compatible Upgrade ?

Thank you .

A:Upgrade Wifi card

I have some good news and bad news and some more bad news for you. Here is the Service manual: Manual See p. 51. This is a very technical and difficult process involving a lot of disassembly. That is bad news 1. Bad news 2 is that HP may have put only one wireless antenna in your laptop. If that is the case, upgrade is nearly impossible as any card you put in there will be ineffective with one antenna and an 802.11ac card will not work at all.  The good news is that there is no whitelist. You can install any module of the correct form factor which is half-height mini pci-e like this:   Above is likely the card you have...the dreaded Realtek RTL8188EE which keeps us in business here at the Forum from the volume of issues.  What you need to do is follow the manual and open it up and check to see if there are 2 antennae or just one. If one, close it up and start thinking about a usb adapter. If 2, then I recommend this: https://www.amazon.com/AzureWave-Broadcom-BCM94352HMB-BCM94352-867Mbps/dp/B00JY6X9HM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=U... That will be the best wi-fi card compatible with your AMD processor system and your form factor requirements.  Post back if you need any more help. If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Hi Everyone:

I am at the point where I have to upgrade the wireless network here in my house because the "G" protocol system I have and used for 5 years or so just isn't getting it done any more so I am looking around to upgrade to an "N" protocol system and I have some compatibility questions that I hope this group can answer from their experiences.

The current system I have here is a "G" protocol system. My laptops (I have two) are "G" and "N" compliant so there is no problems there. My wife's desktop computer connects via a network cable to a port on my current Linksys WRT54G router and my desktop computer communicates via WiFi with the wireless router. My desktop is at the end of the house from the router and this is where part of the problem is coming in. Because of the design of the house I can't get up in the attic and run a network drop (plus the fact that my wife would absolutely freak and have a major hissy fit if she saw me cutting holes in the walls . . .) so I am constrained to wireless. I have a Linksys "G" USB dongle type wireless antennae connected to my desktop via a USB extension cable and the antennae is at the highest point on my computer desk. The signal to my desktop with this setup is fairly consistent with few dropouts but the strength leaves a bit to be desired running at three or on a good day four bars on the meter.

My first choice would be to upgrade to a Linksys 1200 or ... Read more

I upgraded my HP Dv6t pavilion laptop (bought in 2012-13) to windows 10. After upgrading everything seems to work fine except my Wifi (F12) is orange instead of white. In other words, I cannot connect to the wifi and the wifi switch is greyed out and slide back to "off position" when I go in wifi setting.I have tried all the options below (nothing worked). I know the problem is, I don't have the updated wifi driver for my HP machine for windows 10 OS.- I already upgraded my wifi adapter in PC setting.- I called the manufacturer "HP" tech support they asked me to contact the wifi adapter manufacturer Intel; raytheon as  an example. I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 last night on my laptop. The laptop is a Lenovo Z570 with an i7 processor.

My basic problem is that I do not have the capability to turn on my wifi and search for networks now. The hardware switch does nothing. I went into device manager and the network adapter is recognized and shows as working and enabled. The networking adapter I have for wireless is the Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 1000. In the system tray, I only show the red "x" over the wired networking icon, no wireless options.

If I dig deep into the device manager, open the network adapter, go into events and click "view all events", there are several instances of the same error. They all list the same except for the driver name:

In case you haven't tried this... go into Device Manager, right-click to get Properties, and see if there is a tab for Power management and an option to Allow windows to turn off this device to save power (can't remember exactly how it's worded). If there is such an option, make sure it's un-checked.

Then (after saving any open documents/files and closing software) do a full shutdown with this command:

Code:
shutdown /s /t 0
Then see what happens when you switch on again...

At the moment the Wireless Router is located in my bedroom which is 12 meters from the living room where the phone line is. I basically have one phone line extension from the telephone line to my bedroom where I've plugged in the ADSL filter. The modem part plugs into the actual router and the telephone line is then extended back to the living room with a second extension cable. As you can imagine this leaves a lot of wires around as the cables are really long. It's hard to move furniture around etc and quite frankly just doesn't look nice.

What I'd like to do is have a WiFi dongle for my PC and move the router to the living room. Now the problem is that my phone gets a very weak WiFi signal once you go 10m+ so I imagine if I moved the router to there then I would barely get a signal in my bedroom.

I have two options to solve this:

(1) Use a WiFi extender in between my room and the router and then a dongle for my computer

or

(2) Upgrade my current G router to an N router. Problem is I'm not too sure the signal will reach my room. There's a 12 meter range from the living room to my bedroom btw.

Here's my choice for an N router:

A:WiFi Extender or Upgrade to N Router?

12 meters is well within the range of 802.11g. 802.11n has much greater range but that may not help you if your problem is poor or loose antennas on the adapters or obstructions in the path from router to adapter.

The best solution is to place the modem (or modem/router combo) where the phone line will be the shortest and best. Then run ethernet cable(s) to your computer or to where a router or wireless access point will give you good Wi-Fi service. If you can't run the cable through walls, along duct work, to the attic or basement, maybe you can run it along where ceiling meets wall.

A Repeater (or Range Extender) will slow the network, but may otherwise work very well. Or not. Can't predict.

Homeplugs (ethernet over the electrical system) is another solution that works great--better than Wi-Fi--for some people and not at all for others. Depends on the quality of the electrical system and is also difficult to predict. If you try this method buy returnable equipment.

Hi All, completed free upgrade from WIndows 7 Home to Windows 10. Did it via Ethernet NIC - all completed successfully - licence activated. After that I did clean install and again all seems to be fine - except when I tried to use WiFi. There is a red cross on it and it cant detect any networks. Can't be turned on - doesnt react. Only thing it does is switching Airplane mode on or off by pressing hardware or software button. Obviously driver problem. In device manager WiFi  shows as Aetheros AR9285 and there is no warning - functioning normaly. I tried to check no HP site for the product but indeed there is just Windows 7 driver which cant be installed as Windows 10 says its not for this version of OS. So I tried to download the one from Aetheros directly https://www.atheros-drivers.com/atheros-wireless-drivers.html. Downloaded AR9285 for Windows 10 (no exe just inf files etc..) and installed it via "update driver". Completed successfully, reboot done but still the same - no WiFi - unable to turn it on in Windows.  Anyone have this notebook and know which driver to use?

We have had problems with the wifi on our HP stream since we bought it in January.  It frequently won't connect - asks for password and repeatedly says it is incorrect.  Eventually it connects but only a frustrating period of re-entering a password we know to be correct.  Sometimes it even drops when connected.  We have taken it back to the store twice - both times it has supposedly been fixed.  We have had Virgin out to check our router.  All was fine and he suggested it might be the wifi card.  Is this possible?  Can we upgrade? If not, is there an ethernet cable we can use to connect? (I bought one but it needed a CD drive).  Very frustrated so ideas welcome!

A:Can I upgrade the wifi card on HP Stream 11?

The manual for the Stream 11 shows that the Wifi card (known as the WLAN module) is socketed and replaceable. In the past HP has whitelisted certain cards so that only specific ones will work with a given BIOS. I am not sure if that is still the case with the Stream laptops but you could risk buying a card that would not work.  Have you tried reinstalling the Wifi driver from the hp.com site?  That has been required by some other Stream notebook owners who have posted here.

A:Upgrade the Wifi Card in My HP 17-e118dx

Hi: You should be able to, if your notebook currently has two antenna leads attached to the wireless card. Since your notebook has an AMD processor and chipset, you would be limited to installing a Broadcom dual band wireless N card with bluetooth, or a Broadcom dual band wireless AC card with bluetooth. 99% of the time, Intel wireless cards don't work on AMD platforms. If your notebook only has one antenna lead, you would have to be willing and able to take the whole notebook apart including the display panel area, to properly run a second antenna.

Hello,

Current card is Dell Wireless 1810 with new M.2/NGFF Connection (not mini PCI-ex socket), which use mediocre realtek chipset inside.
and, by upgrading this part, do I lose my warranty?

From the manual I can see this series also comes with ac  as an option being the Intel 3160 card http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04655126 (pdf page 10) so this should theorically work 100%. I was also thiking of a better card like the AzureWave AW-CE123H or Intel 7260... I'm aware of HP being famous for having whitelists for wifi cards and at the same time that newers models form the last years don't have those limits anymore. Does anyone has more info about my compatibility? I read of a guy online who upgraded a Envy 4-1117nr with a AzureWave AW-CE123H which is not actually listed of the "supported" list here http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03599931  Thanks!

For systems without a whitelist (manufactured roughly since 4th Quarter 2013) you can install any wi-fi card of the same form factor (for example half-height mini-pcie) and provided you have sufficient antenna. If you try to install a 3 antenna card into a 2 antenna system you will not be happy with the results. Stringing a new antenna is very difficult.  See p. 38 of the Service Manual here.  Manual Some models need the top cover removed to get at the wifi. On yours you remove the bottom cover which is much easier.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Problem is that officially WLAN card upgrade is not supported and unfortunately there is no info about that. On this forum you can find many threads with the same theme. If you have some time try to use advanced search option and check if you can find some info about WLAN card upgrade.

since the Win 10 update I have to repeatedly run the Network Adapter troubleshooter to connect to my wifi and it only lasts a few minutes. I have a Netgear 25 wireless router/modem. I've made sure all drivers are up to date.

A:Wifi won't stay connected since Win 10 upgrade

I know you have made sure all drivers are up to date but did you check with the the system OEM (Asus) and Netgear to make sure all drivers are Windows 10 compatible? If you did you would not be having this issue.i_Xp/Vista/W7/W10 User

Hi, I have an IdeaPad S510p (not the touch model) and it seems my Wifi/BT mini PCI card is having issues when resuming from sleep (the OS doesn't matter, seen it on Windows and Linux). I thought about replacing this card but then I thought that since it's Mini PCI card, why not just upgrade this card with something that has both 2.4 and 5Ghz as well as the latest bluetooth? So, could someone recommend me a Mini PCI card which I can use with the S510p that has 2.4/5Ghz, a/b/g/n/ac and BT 4.0+ please? Thanks

Hello

I have recently up-graded my laptop from 8 to 8.1. Since that time, the laptop will not automatically connect to my home wifi. If I try to connect manually, it will say "unable to connect to network" and that's it, no more clues! The only way I can connect is by selecting 'restart' and then it will re-boot and connect automatically. If I 'shut-down' after use (or hibernate) it will not re-connect until I have selected 're-start' which is time consuming and annoying!

Any ideas? Thanks

A:Will not connect to home wifi since 8.1 upgrade

We will need your system specs in order to help you.

This is most likely a driver problem but we need more info in order to find the correct driver.

I have upgraded my Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E545 to Windows 10 recently and since then I have been having increasing problems to connect to WiFi. It is not a problem with the WiFi itself, since I can connect with my phone and tablet without any problems and my husband has not had any problems with his laptop either. It started with just having to try to connect a couple of times (clicking disconnect and then connect again) in the beginning. Then it took restarting the computer. And now I can't connect anymore no matter how often I try or whatever I try. Initially I got an error message regarding the IP address when using the troubleshoot, but now it just can't find the problem. I have read that it could be a problem with the WiFi driver, which may need an update for Windows 10. The driver listed is Realtek RTL8188E LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC. I have not been able to find this driver or any update for it on the Realtek website. I have not been able to find anything on the Lenovo or Windows website, or anywhere else for that matter, either. I have read posts by other users who are having similar issues, but I haven't been able to find a solution. Please let me know how I can solve this problem. Thank you.

Dear KVW,

Welcome in lenovo community,
Lenovo did not release all windows 10 drivers for the E545 laptop yet,
So you may go back to the previous windows and wait till lenovo release all the drivers.
Also you can use the below link to follow the drivers update,

Good Morning,
and thank you in advance for your help.

I currently have Windows Vista and, for quite some time it has been impossible for me to access the internet at free WIFI cafes, etc. I connect via cable now and that connection works quite well. I've had the problem looked at by computer techs who have made various suggestions, none of which worked, but involved deleting this or that file (sorry I can't be more specific). The last suggestion was to completely reinstall Vista.
I am contemplating upgrading to Windows 7 and wonder if a) my problem with lack of WIFI connectivity will interfere with the upgrade, and b) if the upgrade will actually solve the WIFI problem by virtue of it being a completely new OS.

Thank you again.

Insert Recovery Media and Hit any key. Then select 'Boot Manager' to choose a new Boot Device or to Boot Recovery Media." Going into the Boot Manager, there are no options for me to boot (i.e. CD, hard disk, usb). The same thing happens when I swap back in the old wifi card. Hi there,

I use a small usb modem for my internet access and using a usb wifi adaptor and a virtual wifi router I was able to share my internet around home quite affordably.

Every now and again the software 'virtualrouter' would cause a crash. Maybe once every 3 months.

When I updated to 8.1 the software no longer worked, nor did any other. What's more it cause a DPC-Watchdog violation within a few minutes.

When I say the software doesn't run, one of two things happen. My old program 'virtualrouter' runs as normal, but none of my devices can connect. The network is available, but connection is impossible.

With other programs I get told that the wifi adaptor is not enabled. Which it is.

Something has changed in the upgrade and I don't know what. Every option and test I've run and enabling of virtualisation says that it should work. But then the BSOD arrives.

Please help.

A:Virtual wifi router not working after upgrade to Win 8.1

Welcome liamborg. When I visit the site for virtualrouter it appears it hasn't been updated since Feb 2013 and lists 8 but not 8.1 support so probably hit or miss getting it to work correctly. Have you tried compatibility mode?

Hi
My M17 is constantly dropping out since upgrading to windows 10,i have since rolled back to 7 and it works fine. However i prefer 10 so i keep going back,it starts off every now and then and gradually gets worse untill as of now it wont work at all.
Its fine when i plug an ethernet cable in.
Is there anything i can do as i dont really want to go back to 7 as i used to have BSOS problems which i have never had with 10

thanks

A:alienware wifi keeps dropping since windows 10 upgrade

Not sure what model you have but older windows 7 laptops might not have windows 10 drivers available and are stuck using the generic drivers. It would be better to rollback to 7 until you can upgrade to a new computer. Check Dell drivers and downloads to see your model is supported with win 10 drivers. If not, rollback to 7.

Hey guys. I have an Acer Aspire V5-552P-X404 with Windows 10 x64 instaled. I'm trying to replace the wireless card that came with the laptop (Atheros AR5B22 PCI-E)  with a card that has AC wireless cabability that I found on Amazon (Azure Broadcom BCM94352HMB/BCM94352 PCI-E https://www.amazon.com/AzureWave-Broadcom-BCM94352HMB-BCM94352-867Mbps/dp/B00JY6X9HM). I recently tried The Intel AC-7260 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E7QGHE6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and although the card fit perfectly and the antennas installed fine, my laptop wouldn't boot into windows, it just sat there with a blank screen. I'm assuming it had something to do with the motherboad not being compatible with the Intel wireless card. I have updated all the drivers on my laptop to the latest onces and tried numerous different things to get the Intel card to work, but they all failed. Would anyone know if the AzureWave Broadcom card would work? Thanks, and sorry for being a noob. I DID do research before posting this.

I currently own a Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop and want to upgrade the wifi capabilities of this laptop but I am unsure if it is possible or not.

It currently has the potential to download at 30 Mbs, so if I wanted to download at 50 or 100Mbs I would need to install another wifi card in the laptop.

The thing is though I have never even looked inside a laptop never mind upgraded one. Tell a lie I did install more RAM inside my machine but that is about it.

Can anyone advise please.

Regards

AF.

A:Is it possiblee to upgrade the wifi on Inspiron N5010

First of all, what is the speed of your connection to the internet thru your ISP? Most people are bottlenecked there since their wifi card is usually (not always) faster then their connection to the internet.

There are 3 common wifi standards, 802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11n. They're respective speeds are 11Mbs, 54Mbs & 300Mbs. Which of these do you presently have in your laptop?

Unless your laptop is really old, it most likely has g or n wifi capability. If your laptop has a g card now AND your internet connection speed is faster than 54Mbs then you would see an improvement by upgrading to an n card.

If you want to upgrade your laptop's wifi capability, you could contact Dell to ask if they have a card to upgrade the built-in wifi in your laptop. I did that for the Dell laptop I'm typing this post on.

An easier way to upgrade is to purchase a USB wifi adapter. In that case, you would disable the built-in wifi, plug the adapter into an available USB port and install the drivers that come with the adapter.

If you transfer large files between your laptop and other computers on your network, a faster wifi card will make a big difference but unless you have an exceptionally fast internet connection you probably won't gain any download speed.

I have a few of this model in our comapny and we have upgraded a few of them to Windows 10. All the ones that were upgraded can no longer get wifi. They all worked perfectly in Windows 7 but as soon as 10 is installed they stop working. The confusing part is the wireless driver is there and says it is working properly. I have tried every network driver from HP's site and none of them make it work. I tried a BIOS Update and that didn't fix anything either. There wireless button that is usually next to airplane mode isn't even there.  Hitting the wi-fi button on the keyboard only turns off bluetooth and nothing else. I went into services, and the WLAN Autoconfig servies wasn't turned on and was set to manual. Turning it back on and setting it to automatic. That made the wifi button next to airplane mode show up finally, but its greyed out and you can't do anything with it. In the Network Connections panel the Wi-Fi shows up as a connection, but says not connected but shows green like it is ready to connect using the Broadcom 43224AGN 802.11a/b/g/n 2x2 Wi-fi Adapter. Since this has happened to every model I figured it must be known issue somewhere but can't find a six still.  Please help!

Dear HP Support, i am the happy owner of an HP 6710b (year 2007/2008 model) notebook.Of course now it is a little bit dated. So i decided to upgrade my wifi card (intel) to a new Intel wifi card which supports the 802.11n standard. Unfortunately i discovered that HP uses BIOS based wifi card whitelists to prohibit the user to upgrade the wifi card. When i bought the notebook HP never mentioned it. HP advertised that the notebook has a mini pci express slot. Therefore i concluded that every mini pcie standards compatible wifi card would work. My Questions: 1. Why do you use bios whitelists ?2. How will you fix this ?3. When will you fix this? 4. Which models are using a whitelist? Does HP sell any Notebook/netbook without a bios whitelist?  Thank you.

A:HP notebook wifi whitelist (card upgrade)

Hi,The first 3 questions are for HP guys but I'm not one..HP provide service manuals for its products and you may find all compatible components in there. The whitelist contains all the part numbers from the service guide so when you want to upgrade a laptop, find the component in the service guide or choose the best you can get if more components are available..The guide for your laptop: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/CoreRedirect.jsp?redirectReason=DocIndexPDF&prodSer...There is an Intel 802.11a/b/g/n compatible wireless card. The part number is important because the same WiFi Link 4965AGN for the UK or other European/Asia countries will be probably different (use different wifi regulations than the US).This one should work:http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Mini-PCIe-802-11-A-B-G-N-WLAN-4965AGN-New-441086-001-/330611825906?pt=PCC...?

Hi, Your machine was built many years ago, could be around 2009-2010 therefore the chance to upgrade wifi card is very slim to none. Please try one of some cards on the following link:       http://www.wirelesshack.org/best-usb-wireless-network-adapters.html Regards.

Hello.

After updating to Windows 8.1 wireless indicator always stays on (red light), no matter if WiFi is actually on or off. When I press f12 key, WiFi goes to Airplane Mode, I have an apropriate message in Windows, everything is ok.
But the LED is on anyway.

In Windows 8 it worked as it should be.
All drivers are up to date.

Is there is any way to resolve it?

You said the drivers are up to date. Does this mean that you have installed and updated every driver and Toshiba Utility as mentioned in the Win 8.1 installation instruction?
Such installation instruction can be found on the Toshiba EU driver page an it shows you the driver/tools installation order.

Furthermore you should ensure if both BT and WLan has been disabled properly.
Why? Because this indicator glows red also if BT or Wlan function is turned ON.

Probably BT or Wlan is ON and therefore the indicator glows red.

I have a Sony Vaio Pro 13 SVP1321M2EB and upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 when I bought the laptop about 8 months ago. I had no problems with it until a month ago ? after an automatic upgrade of 8.1 my Bluetooth adaptor disabled itself automatically and then uninstalled itself. I reinstalled a Bluetooth adaptor and had no problem for a week or so. Then the wifi connection would come and go and I would have to troubleshoot every 5 mins to get it working again ? I thought it was due to our internet because it?s satellite and very slow. Then both the Bluetooth and the wifi adaptors disappeared. I have reinstalled Intel Proset Wireless but my computer won?t recognise it even though it appears in Control Panel and now they don?t even appear as Hidden Items on the Device Manager. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both adaptors both through the Sony support site and directly through Intel numerous times and still nothing! I tried to go back to Windows 8 using the reset/refresh through the Assist button but I am told ?the drive where Windows is installed is locked?. I don?t know if it?s a hardware problem or a software problem?I have searched and searched everywhere online and done what has been suggested but still nothing! Advice please - thank you!

Hi, im looking to upgrade the wifi card on the HP ENVY m6-1205sa  to a wifi card that has ac. I have read that some of the older HP models has a whitelist in the BIOS that restricts the wifi card you can use. Was wondering if its the case with the HP ENVY m6-1205sa and if anyone can suggest a wifi card that has ac as well. Much appreciated for any information

A:HP ENVY m6-1205sa wifi card upgrade

Hi, From its manual on the following link:     http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ENVY-m6-Notebook-PC-series/5330543/model/5350131/manuals Your machine was built early in 2013 therefore the chance to upgrade the wireless card is very slim to none. There is a compatible list on page 6 of the Maintenance and Service Guide (the first one n the above link) but none of them has ac. Regards.

I seem to be going round in circles trying to reconnect a working Windows 8 laptop to the WiFi after upgrading to 8.1

It refused to recognise the existing and working WiFi upon reboot after upgrade.

I have twice ran the 'netsh wlan delete profile name=[profile name]' command to remove the profile, rebooted the machine, re-added the profile, nothing happens.

The network symbol in the system tray when clicked doesn't show the profile I created, so I can't select it to connect to (though I set it to auto connect?), it just shows 'Hidden Network' , but when clicking this and I enter the SSID and WPA2 key, it just errors with a failed to connect message.

This was working fine, that's how I downloaded the update, now it's broken!

Any ideas?

A:Windows 8.1 upgrade - Can no longer connect to WiFi

Does the wireless adaptor show up as it should in Device Manager?

Or does it show with the driver installed, or is there a yellow !?
