Crackling Noise and Hiss on HP ENVY x360 15T

Q: Crackling Noise and Hiss on HP ENVY x360 15T

Hello. Well like some folks Im having problems with my brand new (Not even a week old) HP Envy x360 15T Notebook.Specs:i5 5200u w/HD5500 Graphics8GB RAM1TB HDDB&O AudioFHD IPS Screen Touch. The issue is: Terrible Crackling Noise, Hiss and Noise problems in Speakers and Headphones.. After doing some troubleshooting myself I pin pointed the issue to the Bang & Olufsen Audio Codec. The issue became aparent when I updated the Realtek Driver to the lastest version last night.. There werent any noises before after upgrading to Windows 10 (The notebook came with W8.1) but after installing the Realtek drivers the noise began. If I unplug the notebook a horrible crackling noise will happen and its in sync with the brightness level of the screen being lower when entering battery mode. If I plug AC the noise will POP and level out. Before installing the Realtek Drivers the only issue I had was ground static in headphone mode, I could hear the HDD spinning on the headphones if there werent any music or sound playing but the noise was muffled If I played anything like music or youtube video. Then with the new realtek drivers the noise was horrible... Crackling Noises and Hiss are completely evident over the music our sound being played, Even on the speakers it is noticeable. New issues on B&O Audio Codec Control Panel:B&O Sound Enhance Has never worked on Headphones but at least the EQ Worked, After the Realtek Driver Update B&O EQ has stopped working and the B&O Modes that used to dimm out when the headphones were plugged in are now available and can be changed with no noticeable difference.. This is the key.. B&O Codec is having issues with the new Realtek Driver.. EQ Now only works on Speaker Mode and not on Headphone Mode.. Also in device Manager it now shows Headphones as a separate Hardware?I Confirmed this over HP Support. B&O is now in schedule for an Update to make it compatible to Windows 10, By how the Support Clerk wrote it, it seems B&O is not fully compatible with Windows 10.. And the Realtek Update made it evident. So If your having issues with your Sound on your x360 Notebook with B&O Audio then this could be the issue. Hope this helps anybody... Right now I havent found a way to Fully Disable B&O Codec without uninstalling it and since there is no way to download it again I choose to wait for the updated Codec.

A: Crackling Noise and Hiss on HP ENVY x360 15T

One thing that did work was disabling multiple audio deviced on the B&O Control Panel that got rid of the Crackling sound in headphone mode... But speaker mode is still affected.

I've had my laptop for a while and I've tried everything to get rid of this noise and nothing has worked. It is a crackling and popping sound that comings from the laptop itself not the speakers, the source of the sound seems to com from where you would plug in the power cord on the right side of the laptop

My Pavilion doesn't stop buzzing while I'm using it and it's getting annoying. I had to return my last one because the fan was broken and it was buzzing, squealing and overheating and then I got a new one (after being messed around at PC World). I assumed it was just the one I had but I've just recieved my new one and, whilst is isn't as hot and doesn't squeal, there's a general buzzing and hissing/whirring the whole time I'm using it. I've tried playing audio and there is no change so I'm assuming it's not the speakers (I've seen that that's a problem many people have) so I guess it's the fan again. How can I resolve this because it is really getting on my nerves and I'm on the verge of returning it again and steering clear of hp products?

So, back about a month ago, I purchased an HP Envy x360 from Best Buy. Now I thought the laptop was great and all and it works perfectly fine. However, after moving away to college, I noticed in my dorm that when my room was quiet, I could hear this static/scratching noise coming from the upper right hand corner of my laptop keyboard. Now, at first, I sort of dismissed this and I found this out well past the return policy date for Best Buy. However, this noise eventually started to get really annoying. It constantly disrupts me while I am studying and honestly, for an $800 laptop, I expected something that didn't make a sound like this. Nonetheless, I have tried everything in terms of updating BIOS and drivers and that has lead me to zero success. I am assuming the noise is coming from the hard disk of the laptop although I am not entirely sure. As of right now, I cannot send my laptop in for repair because I need it for school work and having it gone for 7-9 days may be a bit of a problem for me at this time. Is there any alternative ways I could try to solve this issue? And is there any possible explanation as to why my laptop is making this annoying noise? Thank you! Product Number: W2K42UA#ABA

Immediately upon booting up my new HP Envy laptop I noticed a continual noise coming from the top right, above the numberic pad. It is a rotating noise of clicking, static and what sounds like spinning. The noise sounds like the hardrive processing, however it is continual with diferent noises coming in waves. I've read a few other complaints with the same issue, but no solution. Noise is not overbearing but extremely annoying and can be heard across a quite room. I've made sure to update/download the most recent drivers and updates incluse BIOS, which has done nothing. Below is a 15 second recording of the sound while the laptop is turned on with no applications open...the noise gets louder and more noticeable as more processes are used. https://www.dropbox.com/s/flp32q2fhxkhzd2/IMG_0252.MOV?dl=0 Product #: L8R68AV Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I have a vast collection of vinyl records and have no problem transferring them to my computer and then to CD's. I would like to process them before transferring them to CDs to remove some of the inherent pops, hiss, etc.
I have tried Cool Edit and with the noise reduction plug-in it does a pretty good job. I am using the trial version and it puts “bells sounds” in the edited data(they say this will be removed with a full purchased version . I don't mind paying for a good program but an extra $49 just for the plug-in seems steep.
Any suggestions? (I have searched this section and found some references (even one to use for belly dancing) but can't find a good noise reduction program.
Thanks much!

Wave Repair costs a little less, but for $49, you may be better off with what you have.

I  am getting a weird sound coming out of this laptop's speakers (equipped with Beats Audio).  When I turn up the volume all the way, I get a hissing noise which quickly downgrades to a warbling sound that resembles chirping crickets.  Lowering the volume lowers the noise, turning the volume up brings back the hiss then chirping.  It's driving me crazy.  Help please!

So this problem seemed to come out of nowhere, I have no idea why it started. Basically, when I use my internet, eg: opening link, loading video or downloading randomly my speakers make a grinding noise and until the noise stops (can be 1-10 seconds) my internet drops (the internet icon on the bottom right shows it is still connected but nothing loads until the noise stops. Even then, the noise can drop in and out like 10 times in a minute and is constantly messing up the internet.

If someone could help, it would be much appreciated, my speakers are Logitech (doubt that makes much difference as I doubt the problem is linked to them and my LAN card is some Ralink thing, nothing special.

Here is a low volume recording of the noise, turn up your speakers to hear it well.

Hi there!

I have a Dell Latitude E7440. I recently purchased a Voxoa BTunes Bluetooth adapter for Bose QC25. When connected to the laptop, there is a noticeable background hiss while sound is playing. When no sound plays, there is no hiss.
However, when it is connected to my iPhone, there is no hiss while sound is playing. This leads me to believe that it is an issue with the laptop. I have upgraded my Bluetooth drivers, and I have had no success. I was hoping that somebody could help me out. I currently have the Realtek audio drivers installed, and i have tested it with the standard drivers, and the hiss is still present.
Any help is appreciated.. thanks!

Perhaps there is an alternative driver? I am thinking that that maybe it may be the Bluetooth hardware, but I am pretty sure both the computer and the device are BT 4.0, so I am not sure.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

What's the difference between the HP Spectre x360 and the HP Envy x360? They both look the same. The only noticeable difference is that HP Spectre x360 has a Radiance Infinity display, while HP Envy x360 has an IPS display. Having the same specs, except for the display, why is the Spectre x360 more expensive than the Envy x360 ? Moreover, I thought that IPS is better than TN, which is my guess that is the technology used for the Radiance Infinity.

A:HP Spectre x360 vs HP Envy x360

Hi, You've got few questions about those products. Well, come to a store and yoy can see the differences. Better still, you can buty 2 machines and compare.  For build quality, the HP Spectre x360 is much better than the Envy x360 you can also find Pavilion x360 - we are talking about SPECS and BUILD here about plastics and metals about wood and gold. Regards.

I've seen this crackling sound problem around the internet. After my research for hours, here is what I got: 1. I used 'DPC Latency Checker V1.4.0'. It was found that some devices, i.e. modem, usb, wifi, are interupting the sound card making crackling noise which is really loud and noisy. 2. Changing the bit rate between 16 bit and 24 bit doesn't help. 3. Update speaker driver to 'Realtex 6.3.9600.116' and 'Intel Smart Sound Technology 8.4.1.71' won't help. 4. Turn off the Audio Enhancement in DTS studio sound doesn't help. 5. Disable WIFI driver for a while won't help. *6. I've found that the problem can be solved by disable 'Disk Data Cache' in SSD option in Intel Rapid Storage Technology.Page 4 from this link: LinkBut I can't find this disable option in version 13.6.0.1002So how can I turn this 'SSD Cache' off?Or do you have any other solution?

Hello all, new to posting but have been checking out alot of your posts over the past few months, finally found something that I couldn't get an answer for so I'm hoping that I can get an answer here.

About 2 weeks ago I began to notice a crackling sound coming from my speakers, it began as a slight crackle and eventually increased in volume. Now the weird thing is that it doesn't make the sound when I'm listening to music, but does when I am playing most games and watch movies using windows media player. I've tested out two sets of speakers so far and both produce crackling when plugged into this system, but do not produce any feedback on my laptop when plugged in, I'm not sure whats going on but I would certainly appreciate any help!

My current system:
Windows XP Home
2.6ghz Amd Processor
Ati Radeon 9800 Pro
Creative SB Audigy 4 Pro
2gb Ram

If I left anything pertinent out let me know and I can add it. I thank you all in advance for any information you can give!

Hello Everybody:

Slightly over a month ago, I bought a Gateway Desktop pc at Office Depot. It has Windows Vista, Home Premium, the only browser is Internet Explorer 7. Well, about two weeks ago, the processor began to make a crackling sort of noise, although it works well. However, since the noise started, I've begun to worry that the noise will get worse and result in the computer not working in the future. I phoned Office Depot and they won't replace it with a new one, even though I have only had it for a month and a few days, which seems incredible, so Gateway has suggested that I take it in for diagnostics and repair.
The noise happens whether the computer is idle or not, but seems to happen more when I'm not using it, or it's idle.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Welcome to SF.

Your first attempts were what I would have done. If the audio driver doesn't help, try rolling back your computer to a date prior to the installation of Crysis Warhead.

So whenever I play certain video games (Usually newer ones with better graphics: GTA 4, Worms Revolution, Skyrim) I get this strange crackling noise. For about the first 10 minutes of playing, everything runs fine. Then it starts to make this noise, and it goes on and off, and while it's on, it slows down the game severely. I am not totally incompetent with computers, but I need help on what to do for this.

I have tried these things:
Used CCleaner to clean my computer
Used Regcleaner to clean my registry
Tried various fixes for the games specifically
Tried to speed up my PC (Which seems to make the games run faster, but it doesn't fix the noise)
Cleared a lot of space on my PC
I have tried many other things over time, even used system restore. But nothing that I do works . I can still play older games which is nice, but I would like to fix this. A:Strange crackling noise problem

Using Registry Cleaners is often the cause of the problem, rather than the solution!

I suggest that you undo anything that said cleaners may have done - either using the undo options they should have, or using System Restore.

Then start by addressing prossible driver problems with your sound card by updating to the latest available frm the manufacturer's website

If you've tried to speed up your PC by overclocking - reset everything to normal settings.

What's running at startup? - check MSCONFIG to see the basic list

Recently Ive been hearing an electrical sounding crackling noise coming from my PC or my extension cord, not exactly sure which as they are right next to each other. Ive been looking online and found a few things but nothing that really helps.

Its not an audio crackling sound it sounds more electical, its not a buzzing sound either, but a crackling/ticking sound. I dont think its a fan because its not constant, it seems to occur randomly. I havent had any problems such as crashes, errors, bsods etc. I also cant smell burning or anything like that, so im a bit confused! All help will be apreciated!

A:Strange Crackling/Ticking Noise

You should identify from where the sound is coming
If sounds comes from your speakers, then it sometimes happens when someone switches off or switches on lights or fans in another room.

I recently bout a new gaming computer form ibuypower about 4-5 months ago. Since ive had it, randomly during gameplay (typically Arma 2 and Empire Total war) distortion such as a crackling, noise would slowly develop though the speakers, the game perfomance would begin to plummit, and eventually completely lock up the entire computer within a period of roughly 1-3 minutes. The only way to get the computer working again would be to swith the power off and on again. This has been occuring more frequently during the past couple of weeks.

Things I have tried:
Uninstalling, reinstalling the games.
Cleaning up files, defrag, ect.
virus/maleware checks.

System specs:
Vista 64-bit
Intiel i-7 920 2.67GHz
Nvidia GTX 260 x2
500GB hard drive
6 GB RAM

I have temperature monitors installed, the highest teamperature usually reaches 47C during gaming. When the computer is freshly rebooted, it runs fine until I run a game or somewhat stressing application.
Since the rig is still somewhat new, I'm hoping it isnt a hardware issue.

Any advice would be great. Just want to figue out what is causing this. My next step is to just go purchase windows 7 and hopefully it will be the magic fix.

I just bought a used Dell Latitude D510 laptop a month ago. I also bought a brand new battery to ensure I was good to go. Everything's been working fine until last night. I was working offline when it suddently powered off. It made a crackling/sparking/arcing noise from the right front speaker. I plugged it in thinking maybe my battery died. Everything worked fine for about 20 minutes and it did it again. Freaked out, I left it off overnight.

Today, I left it plugged in and started working on it. About 30 minutes in, it did it again. I'm worried I'm going to damage something.

Any thoughts on what's happening? Thanks!!

This has been happening for 2 years, but as of earlier this month, my audio has been acting up MUCH more than it used to. Now, whenever I listen to any sound (music, watch videos, etc.) my speakers make this crackling/buzzing/stutter/lag sound every few seconds which makes me never want to use my audio because it is so annoying. I looked up this problem and many people mentioned that by using earphones the buzzing stops, but not for me. Also, I installed and uninstalled a bunch of the drivers that Dell told me to update (IDT Audio, Quickset64, and the BIOS) but this hasn't made any difference. I feel like this is a software problem but I wanted to hear professional opinions to see if it actually is.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

A:Crackling noise in audio on both speakers and headphones

Hi dmang24,
I appreciate for the drivers update. I suggest that you run diagnostics on hardware components, since both speaker and headphones are having crackling noise even after drivers update.
To run diagnostics restart the system and at the Dell logo tap the F12 key every two seconds. This will start the One-time boot menu. Using arrow keys select ‘Diagnostics’ and hit enter. This will run diagnostics on the hardware components of the system which may take around 5 minutes. Please reply to this post in case of any error message.

HelloI have a HP Envy 15 N7L05EA#ABU I'm having terrible problems with the built in speakers hissing and popping whenever I try to play any media such as MP3s or Videos. I've updated the system BIOS to the latest version, I've updated the audio drives to the latest. The problem persists. Tried an older version of the driver and still the speakers pop. It's driving me crazy. If I plug in a set of headphones there is no popping through the headphones but the laptop speakers do continue to pop and crackle even with the headphones plugged in.  If the audio is muted, the speakers still pop. Here is a video showing what it's like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsf0uFFHjHgI'm beginning to wonder if there is a physical fault with it? I can't continue with the problem like it is; it's making my computer unusable. Can anyone help?Thank you for reading this and for any help that you can offer.Steve

My HP Laptop laptop makes low, faint crackling noise which stop for a few seconds and come back. I have noticed this for a while but thought it was a standard computer sound, but I have also been (at random times) receiving blue screen messages which appear for a few seconds and disappear and then my computer restarts abruptly, therfore I cannot read the content of the message to understand the nature of the problem. could you post a way to access these blue screen messages if they are stored on my computer so I can read them. This is not the only problem my cd/dvd drive displays messages such as D:\ is not accessible or Please Insert Disk into Drive D:\ when I insert a blank cd into the drive and attempt to open the cd folder.

I have read various posts on this subject in this forum but I am not sure even though they sound similar if they apply to my problem.

I don't think my drive is old as it seems like a recent computer being that I bought it from a friend a few months ago ( I have the documentation if that helps). If it is because the drive is old the sound still occurs when there is no cd in the drive I've tried to backup but I have a 40GB Hard drive with more than half of its capacity used so when I try and save the backup on my personal folder or cd (750Mb) it doesn't have enough free space to complete the backup.

PLEASE HELP ME!!! how can i backup my computer just in case my hard drive does fail or how can I fix the stated problems!

Jnellz, Welcome to SF.To me this sounds like a poor connection or connector issue. Trying other cables you've eliminated the cable and that leaves the termination points or worse. Did this connection ever work properly?

Hi Everyone:

I have a Sony Vaio VPCL23CFX All-in-one desktop computer (See my SPECS).

I have an odd problem that I cannot seem to resolve. When I play a song, any song, or any MUSIC, for that matter, I get a popping/crackling noise every once in a while. Sometimes it won't happen for a minute, then it will happen every 5 or 10 seconds and then it will stop, then it will start back up again with the every 10 seconds and then not for a minute thing.

It NEVER happens when no music is playing, for example, during a movie when there is no soundtrack playing or if I am watching a Youtube video that has no music. I get the same popping/crackling noise whether it is though the computer speakers or through the headphones.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this to happen or how I might get it to stop?

Thanks,

T

A:Intermittent popping/crackling noise during audio playback

Popping and crackling, if you look over the old posts here, is a frequent issue. Unfortunately there is no "one fix" for the problem.

Among many potential issues, sound drivers (make sure you have the correct sound driver from Sony), video drivers, Wi-Fi, power supply, external source such as a wireless phone or cell phone close by.

On the audio, if you only have the generic Windows installed "HD Audio Codec" that is the first place to start. Get the correct sound driver. What you list for the Sound Card is not really what it is, correct designation is "RealTek", according to the Sony site.

Hi
My problem is my speakers are making such a loud crackling/hissing noise.I can hear backgroundnoise but the noise from the speakers is terrible.
Motherboard is MSI ms6309,soundcard is Creative soundblasterLive CT4830.
i have downloaded the latest drivers from

thinking this would resolve the problem but to no avail
Does this sound like a hardware problem?
Any suggestions would be welcome

If the sound is clear through headphones, or another set of speakers.
Then your speakers are at fault (or connection)

I have been dealing with this problem for a long time but something gotta happen. The random restart happen well randomly during idle, game play, surfing the web or anything that has to do with the computer. One minute I'm enjoying myself and the next I see the Dell logo. No BSOD just loads back to desktop. I have searched the forums and have nothing out there that gives ME and idea of what's going on. I have formatted and reinstalled the OS and it still happens. It happened before and After I upgraded my PSU and Graphics card. It's happens multiple times a day. Now my second issue. I have I play AION and during game play I hear a LOAD crackle through my speakers and I'll hear it for a range of 2 sec to 10 sec and then the system restarts. No BSOD on report. This also happened before and after new PSU and graphics card and before and after format reinstall. I've updated my graphics card sound card, Bios, chipset, everything I can find a driver for I've installed it. I cant find any resolution. I doubt this forum will have an answer for this problem but while I'm listing my problems I'll add this one. During gameplay of AION I will get a message that AION game client OTCbuildclient32_wogg(30) has stopped working. I have also gotten a couple alerts from Norton that that same process is using a lot of memory. If you have any ideas for that one or any of them I would really appreciate it I'm at my wits end. I have ran diag on my memory and harddrive and got not errors.

A:Win 7 random restarts & crackling noise then crash during games

Crashes are mostly related to your graphics card. Check your DirectX/graphics card installations. DirectX comes installed with Windows, so check for Windows corruption; yes, there can still be Windows corruption after a fresh format and install and it generally points to bad installation media, and yes, your installation media can still be bad if you bought it in the store or online or even if you downloaded it from a legitimate Microsoft site. It may also be that you have corrupted drivers or a graphics card hardware problem (possibly related to the motherboard since you have already replaced the card and PSU).
If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Check Windows for corruption. Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker up to three times to fix all errors with a restart in between each. Post back if it continues to show errors after a fourth run or if the first run comes back with no integrity violations. Use OPTION THREE of SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker to provide us with the sfcdetails.txt file if errors occur.
Follow the steps for Diagnosing basic problems with DirectX. To re-install your display card drivers as outlined in the DirectX link, use the following steps.
Download the drivers you want for your display card(s)
Click Start Menu
Click Control Panel
Click Uninstall a program
For NVIDIA:Uninstall the NVIDIA Graphics Driver (this should uninstall all NVIDIA software and drivers)

Hey Guys...

So my Packard Bell Easy Note MX37-S-200 has suddenly started making persistent " Crackling " and " Popping" noises from the moment i boot it. The noise is coming from the speakers and the sound is now distorted. I have very recently got it back from the repair shop after having my AC jack replaced... Things i have tried - Disabling sound driver - Noise was still there and laptop just installed it again.

Running avast scan through it - Scan picked up nothing.

Plugged in PC speakers - Noise still coming from laptop but sound came out of the speakers fine.

This has been driving me mad for a couple of days now. I usually work in the evening after my family goes to sleep. I am sitting in a very quiet room and predominantly just type. Occasionally a notification sound would play through the built in speakers and just before that a crackling sound would be emitted. It happens every time system plays any sound, just before going online speakers would just give out tiny crackling sound. After some research I have found out that this is due to the sound card on motherboard going into power saving mode and once it would go back online that distorted crackling would appear. A problem quite popular amongst laptop owners with Realtek sound on the motherboard. Most of the time the solution is to download a new Realtek driver from the Realtek website, go to the HD Audio Manager and turn off power management from the settings menu. It does indeed work as I have tested myself. After installing latest Realtek drivers from their website and disabling power management the crackling is gone as card never sleeps. But unfortunately it also uninstalls Dolby features that come standard with Acer audio drivers. Native drivers have Dolby but they don?t have power management settings in HD Aduio Manager. So right now I can either have native driver with Dolby sound (which I really like) and crackling (that honestly drives me crazy) or Realtek direct drivers without Dolby and no crackling. Anyone knows how I can install Dolby separat... A:Acer V15 Nitro VN7-592G Speakers crackling noise

Hi, The cracking is done as you told by the latest drivers from Realtek. I think they screwed something up. There were some reports in this topic:http://community.acer.com/t5/V-and-VN-Series-Laptops/VN7-592G-blue-screen-after-installed-Windows-10... Regarding Dolby, well download the drivers from the Acer webpage http://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers And inside there is a folder called DS1 and PCEE4. In these folders are the installation files for Dolby. Run the installation from one of these folders and it will install Dobly, but it will not replace your audio drivers.

I'll cut to the chase....

Lenovo T430 Laptop, Window 7 sp1, 64 bit

Just today this started. I haven't had any issues before. When playing anything audio (e.g., YouTube, ZeroPunctuation, MP4, MP3, any audio) there is the occasional buzzing/static/cracking noise (kinda like what you'd hear fiddling with a headphone jack) coming from the speakers. It happens regardless of volume (hardware volume, or software setting), or whether I'm using the laptops speakers or headphones (I've tried with various headphones, including some quality BOSE) making me conclude it's not the tweeter or cone of the speaker itself.

So far I've tried updating all the platforms like Flash to see if the issue was that. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Realtek driver, disabling/renabling through Device Manager and restarting, and even using the Troubleshoot Audio Playback.

This is driving me insane as having good audio is a major component of my daily activities. Thank for the help

I  purchased this PC in March and it has always had a low buzzing/crackling sound eminating from inside the unit.  I recently hooked it up to an Oculus Rift and the sound magnified tenfold or more.  Here's link to a video from my phone showing the sound with the computer idle.    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/28074518/IMG_1993.m4v The sound is extremely annoying and unbearable when hooked up to the Rift.  It appears to me to be a problem with the graphics card.  The graphics card is an Nvidia GeForce GTX 970.  The ssytem is supposed to be VR compliant.     We are using Dell PC's at work, running Nvidia GeForce GTX 980's.  They are quiet as can be.  No buzzing or humming at all even when hooked up to the Rift.   Perhaps I made a mistake in opting for the HP for my home system.

A:Crackling noise coming from laptop speakers + sound distorted

My guess is that based on the information provided that the wires for the speakers have either been damaged or crossed in some way where they are touching something they shouldn't causing distortion. My advice would be to take it back and tell them whats going on and make sure to have them fix it for free if they opened it and caused this problem.

A couple days ago I received the HP Envy ? 15t Slim Quad Laptop (Product # T1P54AV) that I ordered from HP?s web-site.  This computer comes with a Windows 10 operating system already installed and is 64 bit.  Right away, I noticed that there is a crackling static noise that comes out of the upper right speaker area.  This noise does not come out of the left side of the speaker and is not the same noise as the fan noise.  It starts as soon as I turn on my computer, even if I don?t have any programs open.  The noise can sometimes get louder if I go to busy web-sites that have a lot going on (i.e. videos, etc.).  And, the noise is still going even when my speakers are on mute.  I also have not changed any of the speaker settings on this computer.  What is causing this issue?  Also, last night I got a number of error messages and IIRC, they said that my display driver was crashing.  Today, I went to Control Panel > System and Security > Security and Maintenance > Problem Reports and it already has a number of entries including the fact that my computer has already had 6 Windows hardware errors. Why is crackling static noise coming from my computer and why am I getting multiple hardware errors?  These issues are very concerning to me and I don?t know why my brand new computer is experiencing them.   I am afraid that these issues are going to get worse over time.

Laptop will randomly feeze to the point it becomes completely unresponsive and requires a hard reset.  This has happened consistently since I've had the laptop. In the last couple month the frequency has rapidly increased.  I have contacted HP Support numerous times and continue to get different answers and the run around each time. - All Windows and BIOS updates are ran- I did a clean reinstall of Windows based on recommendation from the chat session. Then I had one agent tell me it was probably malware and needed to send me a recovery disk, then the next person said it was a bad Microsoft update.  I've done everything asked and I still have a laptop that is constantly freezing, and this is becoming increasingly frustrating. I've noticed this seems to be a common issue with my model of laptop, and wondering if there is a fix for it. Please someone help me out here.

Hello,I'm having some trouble with my Envy x360 (m6-w103dx). I like it a lot so far and decided it needed a boost, so I took a Crucial BX100 250GB SSD I had and cloned the HDD that came with the laptop to the SSD. Immediately on boot the laptop says the drive's smart status has an issue/failing (which doesn't seem right, the other PC's I've been trying the SSD on aren't showing the same things, and just this morning the SSD was functioning perfectly fine as the boot drive of an older PC)After that the laptop would say "Boot device not found, Please install an operating system on your hard disk" (3F0).So I figured okay, maybe I botched cloning the HDD. I plugged the SSD back into my desktop and wiped it clean, and prepared a Windows 10 USB installer. While I was doing this, I also put the original HDD back in the laptop to make sure it was still functioning properly and the laptop booted up fine just like it used to.I put the wiped/cleaned SSD back into the laptop. I'm still getting the message about the drive's smart status on boot, and "Boot device not found, Please install an operating system on your hard disk" (3F0). So sounds like I just need to install windows...plugged in the Win 10 USB drive, and set bios to boot USB first. After that Windows 10 installer came up just like it normally does but there were no drives detected. I'm pretty stuck at this point. I've tried cloning, wiping the drive and initializing it as MBR, and again wiping it and trying... Read more

Hi, I just received my HP Spectre 360 (13-4007na). Its the top end model - i7, 8GB / 512GB  SSD / QHD with Windows 8.1 - 64. I am noticing that the fan comes on even for basic web browsing activity. All you need to do to get the fan started is load 4 to 5 tabs on a mainstream news site (like theguardian). This can be consistently reproduced.  More details- I am using Chrome as my browser. - I have installed all the recommended Windows updates (400mb+)- The machine is brand new. So there is no question of dust etc.- My room temperature is quite low - about 12 C- I installed speedfan, one of the temperature sensors reads 60 C after opening about 5 tabs- The fan stays on for several seconds at a time, starting up again when you open new pages- The fan is quite loud and very distracting. This is very disappointing and  is a deal breaker for what is presented as a "premium" ultrabook model.  None of the online reviews seems to mention this. Just wondering if its just a issue with my machine. Would very much appreciate any suggestions. Thanks,hkm.

I bought this computer about a month and a half ago and today I noticed it started doing a weird clicking noise (I had this happen before with the speakers on an other hp computer on Linux. They later broke). This sound is completely new because I've been working from home the last couple of weeks and I never heard it before. I could hear the fan starting, but never this sound.I can't seem to be able to trigger it, so I can't really figure out what it is. I first thought it was everytime I got a notification on Hangouts (sound related) but it is not always. Then I thought it was a processing related issue, maybe the fan was coming on and something got loose in the computer, but the fan just started (loudly) and there was no clicking sound. Anybody has any idea what it is and how to proceed? Ps: I can also hear a whirring/scratching sound when I put my ear close to the top left corner, but the clicking sound seems to come from the bottom right. Maybe they are related?

A:HP Spectre x360 with weird clicking noise

I also have a Spectre X360 that makes noises, but I don't think they're the clicking yours makes. Sometimes, when the fan first engages, there is a very quiet click, before it ramps up. Then there is the constant buzzing/crackling that you mentioned, and this has been discussed at length here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware/Spectre-x360-Noise/td-p/5107394 with no proper solution as yet. It sounds like your clicking is a different sound, and since the only moving part in the machine is the fan, nothing else should really be making audible sounds (unless you have sound playing through the speakers). The crackling/buzzing mentioned is due to power management circuitry for the processor, and the noise is barely audible. If your clicking is loud enough to be heard during regular use, then my thoughts would be that its the fan, something in the fan, or the speakers. Do you hear anything if you shake the machine?

So I've been researching for a few months now but have still to no avail found a viable solution/answer anywhere I looked. I have been looking for a stylus to use with my laptop which is a 2-in-1 so I figured it should be able to use one. But if possibly I would really love it to be pressure sensistive so I can draw in Photoshop with ease. It doesn't seem that any pen has been actually tested on this device though: all the Wacom ones haven't been tested, some say the HP Active Stylus may work but everyone commenting have the Hp Spectre so I would like to have a definitive answer if someone wouldn't mind helping.

My new HP Envy x360 is supposed to have a battery life of 9 hours, but it doesn't. When it is fully charged at 100% the time displayed is 4 hours and 30 minutes. That is no where near the full battery life. What is wrong with my battery?

A:HP Envy x360 Battery concern

Granted it does grow from there but the most it has ever grown to is 6 hours and 30 min

Hello! I have a fairly new Envy x360 that came with Windows 10 preinstalled.  I do not like Win10, and have learned that many of my programs won't run on Win10.  I want to go back to Win 7 pro, but am not sure the hardware will work with an older OS.  Any recommendations on how to do this (get rid of Win10 and install Win 7)? Thanks in advance for your help!

A:install win7 on envy x360?

Antarcticgecko Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! With notebooks, the primary problem with trying to run a different OS than the one preinstalled is the need for the specialized HP drivers for the specialized hardware that comes in the laptop.  Desktops don't present such difficulties because they tend to use more generic hardware and you can often swap out a piece of hardware if you need to.  Laptops don't provide that flexibility. If you will provide the detailed product number of your laptop, I can check to see if HP provides Win7 drivers for it:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824?jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0001We can proceed once you provide the information. Thanks

Offcourse after it's serviced , forever. It won't get worst, not worst than that

I recently had to replace the power button board on my laptop after the original part broke. The last time my computer worked before the power button board broke, the battery was at 70% and afterwards I couldn't turn on my computer. Recently I received the replacement part and installed it into my computer. However when I try to turn on my computer it still does not work. When I plug in the adapter it does not turn on the nearby led and does not warm up at all. I tried to use only battery power however that does not work either. I have already looked through the guide (http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00372748 )and nothing seems to be the problem. I have yet to replace the battery or adapter because I am unsure if those are the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings HP Fans. I purchased an HP Envy X360 about 8 months ago.  I've noticed over the past couple of months that the display will blink (flicker) off for a fraction of a second on a regular basis.  On average ever 20 - 30 secords.   I had read that it was a Google Chrome issue, but I've noticed it on everything, programs, apps, etc.  It happens in both regular and tablet mode. I've been searching the blogs, but I've not found anything that addresses this particular issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
