Yoga 500 WiFi won't switch on and no keyboard

Q: Yoga 500 WiFi won't switch on and no keyboard

I have a 6 month old Yoga 500 and this is the second time this has happened. The last time I was resigned to taking it back to the shop and the day I was going to do it I turned it on for one last time and it was working perfectly again! Here are the symptoms Fan running at full speedKeyboard not responding - touch screen working fine and can log in and use WindowsWiFi showing as off with Red Cross on wifi symbol. In settings, option to turn it on is greyed out. Ive carried out a Windows restore to a date last week when everything was working fine I've disabled and enabled the wifi card through device managerI've uninstalled and reinstalled wifi card drivers The last time it happened I also carried out a full factory restore but this didn't work. As mentioned above, it just started working again. So I'm not going to go through the hassle of trying that again. Any suggestions before I take it back to the shop?

I have a wireless router connected to my modem, and ALL PC's connect to that for internet.

I also have a gigabit switch I use to transfer data in between several of the machines. I do it quite often and I don't want it eating up the wifi bandwidth.
I have done it before, but it has been a long time and I cannot remember how I forced internet traffic over the wifi and local traffic through the switch
Is the only way to do it to specifically tell Windows to use the IP address of the LAN connection? I know it will work that way, forcing local traffic directly to that IP, but I seem to remember there being an easier way to do this.

Thanks.

Hi, I have a Gateway NV52L15 notebook and I am having problems with my WiFi access. I have Windows 8. My wireless networks are not showing up. When I troubleshoot the network adapter, I get a messAge that reads that my wireless capability is turned off. When I go to the Gateway Device fast lane, my WiFi is on. But when I look in networks it as shows WiFi off and I am unable to turn it on that way. When I go to wireless devices in pc settings, the toggle button for the wire device is grey, therefore I am unable to switch it on- It used to work.

Also, while in the Gateway Device fast lane, when I press the F3 key the airplane mode goes on...the WiFi goes off...by comes right back on. Please help...

HI Michael, If you go to the Control Panel, and select the "Network and Sharing Center" item, in the bottom left of the screen there should be a "HP Wireless Assistant" link in the "See Also" section. Click that, and it will allow you to enable the wireless adaptor. That may achieve what you need to do. Regards,John

Hello I have been dealing with this issue for more than 6 months now and I have been trying all the possible solutions suggested on the internet, but nothing works for me.So my problem is the following: I have a Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro (Windows 10) and from the beginning my Realtek drivers did not work properly. Either the speakers did not work or the headphones were not recognized. Updating did not help.I then tried the option to run the computer with the default drivers by following these instructions: "Now, one thing to note is that you also need to disable the automaticdriver update from the "System Properties" ==> "Hardware" tab ==> "DeviceInstallation Settings" ==> Select "No, let me choose what to do." ==> Andthen select "Never install driver software from Windows Update." and ensure"Automatically get the device app and info provided by your devicemanufacturer" is checked. This will prevent the driver gets automaticallychanged by Windows Update after your next reboot." This worked in some extent. I could use both speakers and headset, but I had to switch manually between the two by going to the "Sounds" menu. However, after about 4 months, I started to get blue screens with MEMORY_MANAGEMENT errors and only enabling the automatic driver update from Windows Update again helped it. So this is not an option anymore and it was really annoying to switch it manually anyway. The problem is now that, after re-enabling driver updates from Windows Update... Read more

It may actually be a hardware issue. The switchover shouldn't be handled by the software, just detected.

What kind of headphones are you using? Are they TRRS or CTIA? I've never used CTIA (Apple) earphones, but I have had systems configured for CTIA that didn't detect my TRRS headphones correctly. SHouldn't be an issue if the headphones only have 2 rings though (stereo headphones with no mic or in-line controls).

A:Yoga 500 doesn't switch to tablet mode

Hi Heck,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

Windows 10 is definitely better designed to be used in table mode and switch between a table mode and computer mode use. Despite that I expected some learning curve, I found that the Windows 10 environment is immediately very intuitive to use. When in Windows 10, you can access the table-mode settings by navigating to Windows 10 Settings > System > Tablet Mode.

?

Also, Turns out there is a screen lock position button on the side. You might have pressed it by accident....that's what I did.

Hey, So I bought the new 700 yoga with the core i7 this past week. I had some issues with the wifi and have been scouring the internet and can not find a fix for the incredibly slow wifi. My internet is fios with 40 up and down and can get that speed on my lenovo thinkpad, y series laptop, and cell phone. But this the only laptop that has windows 10 installed and when i run either speedtest.net or the internet health test this laptop will not get anything close to that. I have installed all the windows update and disabled the peer to peer update and every information sharing option in the settings. The speeds i can get in the first minute of turning on the laptop is 8 down and 20ish up. After one or two minutes the down and upload speeds drop to 0.1mbps down and up and it will time out the internet constantly. Anyone else having issues like this? I called the tech support line and since I am getting some wifi connection the support service said it is not a hardware issue and is a software issue but for the support i would have to pay to on a laptop i had less than a week.Any help would be great.

Ok, so I see that the earlier Yoga had problems with Wifi, and I'm wondering if this is the same problem I have with my Yoga 2 Pro. If the wifi signal is at all weak, it just seems to drop out. This is a huge headache and might be grounds for returning the machine, which I have already fallen deeply in love with. Is there a fix? Is this just me or is this an issue across the board?

Hi I'm experiencing troubles with the WiFi on my new Yoga 500-15IBD laptop. I tried to find a solution throughout this forum (and the rest of the internet....), but so far I couldn't find anything that directly relates to my problem (or solves it). The problem is as follows:Basically the WiFi is quite unstable. Every once in a while it just looses the connection, despite being directly next to the router. It then says "limited connection" and the only way to make it work again is to either reboot, or click "troubleshooting" on the WiFi symbol, which then basically resets the adapter. I already tried to solve the issue by applying all Windows 10 updates, and by trying to install a new driver (this worked previously for my ThinkPad Yoga 2, which had similar problems at the beginning). So far, no success. The curious thing about the driver is, that when I go to the lenovo support page and let the website determine what kind of laptop I have, to automatically show me all available drivers, it shows me drivers for a WiFi adapter that I don't have... It successfully determines that my Yoga 500 is a 15IBD, but the drivers that it shows me for download are either for an Intel WLan adapter, or for a CyberTan/Liteon. But I have a Broadcom 802.11ac device installed. Why is that? Shouldn't lenovo know what they built in? I also tried to disallow Windows from shutting down the WiFi adapter to save power, but this didn't work either. In addition, I also tried ... Read more

Hi I am writing of about a problem that i have for 4 months now!!, which is regarding the wifi dropping connection every so often. I have gone through the process of sending the laptop for repair multiple times where they have --Failed to repair or do anything on the laptop- replaced the motherboard (downgraded one!!) and wireless card- fitting the correct motherboard After the second repair, where they replaced the wifi and motherboard, the problem still persisted which led me to factory resetting the laptop.Once doing so, and after installing the updates, the wifi was stable for two days, with it only dropping once. However i come to realise that the motherboard replaced was a downgraded one, which led me to sending it back.Since getting it back, the wifi drops several times every minute. How do i please resolve this problem. Other posts mention i need to uninstall discovery.exe but i cannot find this process runinng. Thanks for the help.

The reason for people like me (I know the nitty gritty details) stay silent on topics like this is that you don't provide the facts. When it comes to wireless, a PC is normally fixed by removing third party bloatware and installing the latest wireless drivers. The wireless infrastructure you connect to on the other hand, includes countless variables that can clutter you experience. So if you expect to get a good diagnose we need info like:OS versionWireless radio/router/controller model, choice of band 2.4g/5gWireless extenders (I hate those)building typedistance to radioand more..... A rule of thumb is "keep it simple" unless you know your trade.

Hello folks, I am having a super **bleep**ty problem with my notebook, I hope someone can help...I am a happy owner of a 1.5 years old Thinkpad Yoga. I updated to Windows 10 last year but no major issues so far. Around one month ago though, I started getting some problems with my wifi connections. Sometimes, after disconnecting (voluntarily), the wifi wouldn't reconnect at all and disabling the WiFi would make it even worse, because I wouldn't be able to enable it again and had to reboot. The wifi simply shows no networks and presents that little red "x" on its icon.Well, last week the problem got worse. The WiFi stopped working and wouldn't get back even while rebooting.Sometimes it will get back after a reboot, in those cases it stays good and alive as far as I don't reboot and keep the device enabled.I ultimately resetted my Windows yesterday to see if it problem would be fixed. The windows started up good, but when I started again today, the problem was there again. Some facts:1. I saw no particular pattern on which circumstances the problem is shown more often.2. The device manager will show the wireless adapter sometimes, but most times won't.3. The Bluetooth radio doesn't seem to be affected at all by this issue.4. Updating or reinstalling the driver doesn't seem to help, although it can bring the wifi adapter back to work (until I reboot the system).5. I had a VPN software before updating to Windows 10 (although I believe I uninstalled it before that), but m... Read more

Hello, Sorry for my "English"..I'm French :-)I bought recently an Lenovo Yoga 2 13 inch.Since few days, Windows doesn't let me activate my Wifi card.It is well configured...it's a REALTEK card inside.I use now an USB ethernet adapter to have access to Internet (and to have the capacity to create a post on this forum ).I don't remember exactly when this occured.I think it was after the "tablet mode" but I'm not sure of that because I tried that before and that worked. I tried a lot of solutions :- Windows 8.1 option to enable the Wifi => can't be done, it writes that in "grey" color- disable/enable the wifi card- connect/disconnect the wifi card- configurate an static ip address => cmd / ipconfig doesn't show the ip address, so that really means that the Wifi card is not activated- auto-diagnostic Windows- Windows device manager=> the card is well configured- Windows system restore to a previous point where the wifi card worked => it is still disabled- Lenovo system restore factory settings => it is still disabledWith this last point, I think the problem is at the hard level.I read other solution using an Live Linux and using the "rfkill" command.Result :[email protected]:~# rfkill list0: ideapad_wlan: Wireless LAN    Soft blocked: no    Hard blocked: yes1: ideapad_bluetooth: Bluetooth    Soft blocked: no    Hard blocked: yes2: hci0: Bluetooth    Soft blocked: no    Har... After having some issues with WiFi, slow response time, and long boot times, I decided to install Windows 10 fresh.  After doing so successfully, I noticed that the keyboard isn't disabled when I flip the screen around into tablet mode.  I know it's probably one of the pieces of software that Lenovo offers, but I only want to install that one, since I really don't need the rest of the software suite.  Does anyone know which driver/software set do I need to disable the keyboard? Thanks!Gage

I just got my Yoga 900 two days ago. I love it so far, everything seems to be working great and I was nervous some of the other reviews said the trackpad was bad and honesstly the only complaint I have is the small shift key... but hopefully I can train my fingeers differently.  I am posting this because of an issue I am having with the keyboard and typing. I am seeing double letterss when I am typing and Im leaving themm in the post so you can see how often it happens. I am not a heavy typer by anymeans and it happens simotanously as the letter is typed.  I have installed the BIOS and driver updates with the lenovo app and also updated my windows 10 completly. The trackpad update really fixed alot of scrolling issues and hopefully another one can fix these double letters. Itss not the hardware in the keyboard right? Hopefully not because I llove this computer.  Anyone else having these issues???

Hi, I'm a user from Austria/Europe, but maybe someone from this forum can anwer my question. Configuring the keyboard within the shop, i do get 3 options: "Deutsch", "Englisch (Europa)", "Englisch (UK)".Does anyone know, if 'Englisch (Europa)' is a US-international keyboard (one-row enter key), or just an "Englisch (UK)" version including the Euro-Symbol (two-row enter key)? As Lenovo Partner do see sthg similar within the CTO-Configuration (Flex config). There it reads:Backlit KYB GERBacklit KYB EURO ENGBacklit KYB UKEMaybe that rings a bell to somebody. EURO ENG: US-international or a modified UKE???Behind the scenes:1) Regarding the distributor, EURO ENG is a modified UKE (Euro instead of Pound). I can't beleave that.2) If such an expensive notebook is bought, the keyboard has to fit the user. In this case, US-international is required.3) I can't beleave further, that is is not possible to configure/order a notebook with an US-international keyboard from within Europe.

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum and my apologies if I have posted in the wrong field with this query...

I have a customers Packard Bell Easynote MX37 laptop that I have installed Windows 7 on... Original OS Vista Home Premium.

The problem I am faced with is the WiFi switch.

The WiFi switch will activate itself on start up and enable wireless connection, but if the switch is pressed it disables wireless and stays disabled, no matter how many times switch is pressed. Once laptop is restarted it will become active again...

I am stuck on how to proceed with this problem and any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys.

A:Wifi switch disables...

Did it work as expected with Vista? Maybe there is a Packard Bell WLAN utility you need to download from their web site? If no Windows 7 one maybe a Vista one that will still work.

Is the switch a toggle or slide switch?

Hi All,

I have a laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad) that is mounted in a docking station. In my house I have wifi, the docking station is connected to the router via hard LAN.

I have prioritized my connections to give preference to LAN over wifi (as I obviously prefer the fastest connection).

The Network sharing center now tells me I am connected to both LAN and Wifi, but the system tray tells me Wifi. How do I know through which I am now connected and how to I prioritize LAN? Please don't tell me to manually enable / disable ;-)

Thanks a lot!

I was playing a game on my laptop and decided to switch from wifi to ethernet. I plugged in the ethernet and turned off the wifi switch to ensure it switched over, but later when I tried to turn wifi back on, I see the wifi on/off switch is grayed out.

I went to my device manager to check for wifi network adapter driver updates, but everything seemed pretty up to date.

Any recommendations on how to fix this? Or at the least another method of turning the wifi on, like through command prompt or something?

Thanks

A:WIFI on/off switch is grayed out

So to fix this what I did was hit the airplane mode key on my keyboard. The wifi switch in the pic I posted would stop being grayed out for about 5 seconds, and I had to switch it on in that time.

I'll note that flipping the airplane mode switch right above the wifi switch didn't do this, so I don't have a clue how it worked out.

So the wifi switch on my computer is broken off, although i am unsure how it happened. The places I have taken it to with questions have only told me expensive solutions for it such as having to replace the entire motherboard (which seems strange to me just because of one switch) anyways, I have wireless internet in my house, but cannot use it on my laptop so for anything that involves internet connection the laptop is useless. I also bought one of those netgear wireless usb adaptors and am still not able to get internet.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

A:Wifi Switch Not Working

I may be wrong but the wifi switch should not affect an external USB adapter. What were the issues you were having when you installed the Netgear Wireless USB? Did you disable the internal wifi adapter (either in Windows or BIOS) prior to installing?

Suddenly my Yoga 12 refuses to list all available wifi networks.  It only lists networks that I have used before, like my cellphone hotspot.  It will not list any new networks, like the Panera Bread or the Pete's I just walked into.  I am sitting in a very commercial area, and there should be at least 12-15 networks showing on the list.  But the only one itI can connect to is my cellphone.   And yes, my wifi adapter is up to date, I just updated the driver.  No change.

A:Yoga 12 has stopped finding new wifi networks

Hi Holmes.

I don't have your machine, my only ideas or suggestions are:

1) Try to remove the device (Windows Device Manager) with a right click select "Uninstall" and select "Delete the driver software for this device". After that reinstall the driver againt.

2) Just in case check if getting closer to the router works at all. If moving it improves, maybe it can be something related to the antenna.

3) Maybe you can try something not official approved by Lenovo like finding an update driver for it. For example sometimes I use "DriverEasy" to find newer wifi drivers on my machines. Only use this if you feel confortable installing/uninstalling drivers on your machine.

This is what it cames to my mind right now. Sorry it is not too much.

Recently there was a Wifi Driver issue, which got resolved when the service guy came and replaced it, 6-8 weeks ago. After that my Wifi works fine but has a bit of a performance issue - It takes some time to identify Wifi Networks. If I switch on my bluetooth, the wifi performance degrades more, i.e. more time to identify network and the speeds of download/upload deteriorates a lot (A video in Youtube 720p quality is brought down to 144p).In addition it seems to take a lot of time for my bluetooth to identify a device. Does the Wifi and Bluetooth share the antennas? If so does this mean the antenna have a problem now?Is there a way to troubleshoot this? maybe by checking speed on Wifi and bluetooth.

We use Yoga Pro 3 computers for work, so I have several and this problem is the same on 3 of them (which leads me to rule out a hardware issue): the wifi adapter just went missing one night, seemingly after the latest routine windows 10 update.  Bluetooth is still there, but no wifi.  If I go into the device managers, I see a bunch of 'wan miniport' artifacts, but no actual wifi adapater.  I've rolled back the update (multiple udpates, for tha matter), played around in BIOS, I've tried intsalling the network adapter drivers manually, and on one computer, I even did a factory reset.  Nothing works.  Certainly a windows update can't damage the wifi card itself.  Anyone have any ideas?  No network connection makes these computers expensive paperweights.  And since they're employee computers, time is critical.  I'm giong to have to guy buy new computers this week if I can't resolve this.

I have been relatively happy with my Yoga 900, but I have run into an odd situation and would appreciate any help.Specifically, my device functions well with my home router, but if I move to an area of the house where the WiFi signal is weak, and I get disconnected from the router, I seem to be unable to re-connect to the router when I then move back to an area of the house with a strong signal.I tried turning off the WiFi and turning it back on, but it still will not connect. It seems the only way I can get back online is to reboot. Is there a solution to this? For what it's worth, I do have the default 18.12.2.3 driver installed (Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 8260), and saw a post somewhere suggesting going to the Intel site for their driver.I am not someone who enjoys tweaking settings, so hopefully there is a simple step I am missing. Thanks so much to anyone who has time and willingness to offer a suggestion.

Hi. Insert Recovery Media and Hit any key. Then select 'Boot Manager' to choose a new Boot Device or to Boot Recovery Media." Going into the Boot Manager, there are no options for me to boot (i.e. CD, hard disk, usb). The same thing happens when I swap back in the old wifi card. I have tried the solutions at https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-2-Pro-Boot-errors/td-p/1665397 but it still does not work. What is going on and is there any other way for me to restore the laptop? If not, is it possible to use a mSATA to USB to retrieve data off my existing SSD? Thanks for all the help.

First day of owning my Yoga Pro 3. Has anyone experienced intermittent wifi failures? I've had trouble on both access points that I have at home. One is an older 802.11b router (set to channel 1), and other a D-Link815 dual-band bgn router (with the 2.4Ghz radio set to channel 11). I've experienced problems using both routers on either channel and when using the 5Ghz spectrum as well. Connectivity with either access point lasts from 5 mins to 30+ mins (in limited time I had available to use it so far). Far more frustrating is that when dropped, the YP3 refuses to reconnect. Manually selecting the access point in the network connections charm and clicking "Connect" results in failed attempts at connecting and system will refuse to connect to any Access Point for a random amount of time. At one point I had attempted to reconnect about 20+ times before it did reconnect. Obviously, tried rebooting without any change in behavior.I uninstalled the Broadcom wireless driver (the system the auto-installed a Microsoft driver which, from the version number, appeared to be an older version of the same Broadcom driver as they used a very similar numbering scheme and were very close). No change. I reverted that change. Are there known issues with these wifi cards/drivers accessing open wifi connections? I live in the middle of no-where, so have had no compelling reason to secure the access points. What else should I try? Thanks

I've had my yoga for almost two years now and recently I've been having two issues: 1. The WiFi adapter will sometimes go out and it won't even show up on the device manager. The only "fix" I've found so far is to shut down and turn the computer back on (usually at least a couple of times) until the adapter starts showing up again. I've gone to the bios to check to see if it's showing up when I run the motherboard test and sometimes the PCI slot that it occupies doesn't even show up. I've been having to use a small USB WiFi adapter when the onboard adapter feels like being particularly uncooperative on certain days. 2. At random times (every few hours or so) when the laptop is just sitting on my desk, I will get an auto rotate notification and the screen will change its orientation, go into tablet mode, and disable the mouse and keyboard. Usually the screen will go back to normal after a few seconds, but the keyboard and mouse will still be disabled and the only way to get them both activated again (as far as I know) is to shut down the laptop and then turn it back on. My guess is that these two problems might be related. The reason why I think so is because I had similar issues a year ago with the WiFi adapter frequently not showing up on the device manager. I had the laptop sent in and it turned out to be an issue with the motherboard, which had to be replaced. So my guess is that there's something wrong with the motherboard again, which is affecting both the... Read more

I'm starting a new thread regarding the Yoga 11 keyboard, even though it has been mentioned in another post. That post has seen no activity for a while.

Does anyone else have a problem with a sluggish keyboard on the Yoga 11? (the physical keyboard)  I am very often (not always)  missing double letter keystrokes. For example, "tell" will be "tel", "wheel" will be "whel".  It is very irritating to always have to check what I've typed. I'm a touch typist of fast/average speed and in 50 years have not had this problem with another keyboard. I talked to Lenovo support this morning and they could not help, nor had this particular agent heard of the problem before. At first he tried to see if there was an updated driver, but Windows RT, which the Yoga 11 uses, does not use drivers.

In addition to missing double letters, I've recently started seeing an occasional double letter.

Anyone else?  Any work arounds or solutions?

Hello,

Perhaps adjusting the keyboard's repeat rate will help?  Here's how to do this on a Lenovo Yoga 11:

Open the Run dialog by pressing Winkey+R on the keyboard.  The Run dialog will appear.
Enter "control keyboard" as the name of the program to run and press Enter.  The Keyboard Properties dialog will appear.
On the Speed tab, try changing the repeat rate to "Short".
Click the OK button to commit the change

Does this make any different for you?

So in foresight that could last longer than changing single keys (like in the existing ifixit guide). But this really looks bad (removed mainboard etc.) : http://i65.tinypic.com/rhjpth.jpgthe black spots aren't screws, they are rivets or I don't know how this is called correctly. So one chance might be: cut them all off. But how to fix the new keyboard afterwards?Any experience? Is the single key fix from ifix it always successful? My current idea: getting a "palmrest" (frame with keyboard) of exactly the same model.

I've had my Yoga 900 for just a little while (got it the day that showed up in stores). I love it, save for one thing. One time, it got into this mode where touches would randomly appear on the screen (the little dot you get when you do a touch). At the same time, random keys seemed like they were being pressed. And you'd press the keys on the keyboard but they'd give you a totally different keystroke than they were supposed to. This persisted through two whole reboots. But it wouldn't happen 100% of the time. It'd be fine for a few minutes, then start doing it again. I managed to get a BIOS update in and a reboot, and the problem seemed to go away. But then in the last day or two, it has come back, albeit much much less horrifically. They'll be a stray touch on the screen with my hands nowhere near it (I'm almost always in laptop mode). Or something weird will happen like my browser will open a new tab that there's no good reason for. All of these might be phantom touches, but some could be phantom keys as well. Anyone else run into this? It seems like it's probably the hardware, though I can't rule out software.

Good day and welcome to the community.

Sorry you're having difficulty.
I've not seen this reported previously for the Yoga 900, but a driver update for the Yoga 3 14 (I believe) fixed a similar issue. So, if you would, please confirm which video driver version you have, and compare it to what's listed in the driver listing: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-900-13isk

My keyboard has taken quite a spill and some of the keys are very stick/stiff to press down on. I'd like to completely replace the keyboard. How do I do this? I know with most laptops you simply pop the little tabs around the perimeter of the keyboard but with this model the entire keyboard face is like one big piece. Must I disassemble the entire laptop from the bottom? Or is there a way to pop off just the top of the keyboard?

Today, the "3" key simply fell out of my keyboard while typing. One of the clips on the backside of the key broke off. I have to say, I'm pretty disappointed. Now, what do I do? Is it possible to replace only a single key? Can I order them somewhere? It would be pretty excessive to replace the whole keyboard just for one key...

Good day and welcome to the community.I don't know of anywhere to obtain single keys. Considering that you're likely still under warranty, I'd recommend that you give Service a call (info below) to discuss the issue.Regards.

I purchased my yoga 710 11s about 3 weeks ago. Today i was typing up an email and my G key came loose. Normally, keyboard keys just snap back on...well upon further inspection, the clasps that lock the key into the hinge were damaged, so it will not click back in.  Now when i say these clasps were small, i am understating their infanticimal size. I have looked thru almost every key board key replacement website as well as called lenovo customer support. No luck. I didnt give the customer service much effort as they told me to take it back to best buy where i purchased it since it was their problem. After explaining to him that this is a warranty issue, he told me it was not because i must have dropped it...which i have not, there isnt even a scratch on it. at this point i was seeing red. he finally caved and told me it would take 2 weeks to send the laptop out and service it. Mind you i only got this info after deciphering the broken english of the agent on the other line after giving him my name spelling 7 times, and my phone number 3 times, confiming each letter and number over and over each time. if anyone can tell me the key hinge model or a place where i can buy a key, i would be eternally grateful. this is a work laptop and sending it out for 2 weeks to replace a keyboard key is simply not possible. at this point my only other option is returning the laptop and never buying a lenovo product again

Sorry to hear you are having to go through such a hassle, but luckily the fix is usually pretty simple and cheap. You might try this place; they sell the individual keys, hinge and cups for the Yoga for about 7 bucks + shipping..     The do not specifically mention your exact model of Yoga, but I am sure if you contact them them they could point you in the right direction.    You can even take a photo of the your current hinge etc. to make sure you get the right one..   Replacementlaptopkeys.comOrange County, CaliforniaToll Free (800) 616 0976M - F  10 - 5 (PST)Email:   [email protected] Replacement Laptop Keyshttp://www.replacementlaptopkeys.com/yoga/ Contact Replacement Laptop Keyshttp://www.replacementlaptopkeys.com/contact-us/ How to Orderhttp://www.replacementlaptopkeys.com/how-to-order-a-laptop-key/ Good Luck!

I had bought  a Lenovo laptop, model Yoga 300 11/BR .The manual for the subject 2 in 1 laptop   mentions nothing about the the two  keys i.e beside F 12 with an annotation 'ins' and 'QS'. There is no mention of its fucyions in the user manual published by Lenovo. Also there is a mismatch in the mention of positions  of the brightness  adjustment keys and its respective  function in the user manual.I would appreciate if you could help explain to me with the functions of 'QS' and 'ins' keys.(I don't think 'ins' is for Insert function )  Yours TrulyAnil Mats

My girlfriend owns a Levono Yoga 3 14 and just recently the keyboard has stopped working. We bought it at Best Buy and considering their is a crack in the screen they can't do anything to fix it. I have tried updating the driver for the keyboard, getting every update for Windows 10 updated, and even Factory reset the laptop to see if that would fix the problem. Also, I tried entering safe mode to see if for some magical reason that would at least get the keyboard to work and nothing. Another possiblity that I had thought of was the anti-virsus (AVG) was blocking the connection between the keyboard and the laptop so I removed it and it didn't help at all. This recently happened on my laptop so I figured I'd give it a shot. The keyboard does light up when the laptop is initally turned on but none of the keys work after that. I'm able to connect a external keyboard to the laptop and use it that way but actually using the keyboard on the laptop I have had no success. If anybody has had any problems light like this and has came up with a solution, please let me know.

Just curious to know (if anyone has checked this), how much battery is consumed when having the keyboard backlit vs. having the backlight turned off. Does it cut down the total usage time per charge by just a few minutes?

I've had my Yoga 900 for 3 months now and from day 1 I always missed keys typing. I figured it was due to me getting used to the keyboard. I got a backup Macbook and yesterday bought a Y700 (because I'm likely getting rid of this Yoga 900!) and I type just fine on these laptops. After 3 months the KEYBOARD is missing keys! I know I'm hitting them. It's so bad that in one sentence I have to often retype a letter THREE TIMES. It's irratic. It's never the same letters either. Sometimes the space bar does it. It's too late to return it to Best Buy. PLEASE HELP! I also type just fine on the display units at Best Buy so it's just my unit.

Hi, I bought a Yoga 900 i7 16Gb 512Gb in the US because it was a lot cheaper than at home (About $500!!) However I forgot that the keyboard layout would be different. Can I change the keyboard (I've done it before) and where can I get the replacement part short of buying an accident damaged one? I'm after a Swiss keyboard. If you know the part number that would be helpful. Many thanks. Jon

Hello I just bought a brand new computer 3 days ago. Haven't been using it that long. It's an HP Envy 810qe or something like that. The first day I played on it 77 windows updates were downloaded.

The computer has built in Bluetooth which I love but I noticed it was always-on and was wondering if there was an on/off switch. I searched Google and seen there is an on/off switch in PC Settings, PC Devices, Bluetooth. Unfortunately I do not have this. Also under PC Settings and Network I do not have an on/off switch for the wifi. I also don't have anything in PC Settings called Wireless. I talked with HP support (since I just bought this computer) their only option was to do a System Restore or Recovery. I talked to Microsoft support and their only option was to pay for a premium membership so they could use their 'advanced tools' to scan my system and find out the problem. (which is my long history of dealing with computers and support their answer would have probably been the same which was System Restore or Recovery, at which who even knows if this is going to fix the problem)

So now I come to this community my first time here (wave) asking for assistance. I temporarily disabled my Bluetooth in Device Manager because I don't know if it's safe to have it constantly on if I'm not using it. I've seen on here there are other people who have had the same problem but I didn't see a definite solution on the couple threads I read. Also just before disabling my Bluetooth I ran HP s... A:Bluetooth and Wifi no on/off switch in PC settings

Hi summerbear. I can try something that works on my MSI laptop (a great brand BTW), and I think most of todays' laptops.
Usualy there's an allin1 manager to all of the options you mentioned, and it is accessible through the start line in windows (at the bottom). Most of the time you don't see all the icons of programs running, and there's a little upward arrow in far right side of the start line, that if clicked reveals sound, storage, and allin1 managers installed in your system. In my laptop this manager program that includes control over volume, wi-fi, and bluetooth, is called SCM. I'm not sure that HP's has the exact same program but there's supposed to be some type of allin1. If you don't find any try typing "Bluetooth" in windows search (through the start button), and shutting down wi-fi is also possible by clicking the network bars in the far right, thus accessing the list of nearby wi-fi networks, choosing the one you're connected to, and clicking "disconnect".
Hope I helped, goodluck.
Amit.

hello almost a year ago i was getting mad at my internet and turned the wifi switch on my laptop off so i cud turn it back on... when i turned it off i had inadvertently broke the switch in the off position and for a few weeks had no internet while i searched frantically to find a solution... eventually i just gave up and bought a usb wifi device to override the switch... recently i have lost this usb and i was wondering if there was a cmd command or something that i cud do to manually turn it back on... i am currently using windows vista on a computer around 3 or 4 yo and once again frantically searching for a solution... pls help with any info possible.

A:broke wifi switch in the off position

What make/model is the computer?

If it is a slide switch and you broke off the part that sticks outside the case, you might be able to use a toothpick or other small stiff object to reach through the slot and slide it to the ON position.

Hi,
I run an Ethernet cable to my modem for my Windows 10 PC. But unfortunately I have a lot of drop outs where the internet just stops (something I am taking up with my provider) and I have a pocket wifi to use as a back up.

My PC can find the wifi and connect but the only way I can get it to connect is by pulling out the blue Ethernet cable from the actual pc. (When I say connect, I mean it is "connected" already but not in use, the small box appears for the ethernet cable rather than the wifi icon)

I would like to know if there is a way to either run the wifi simultaneously with the Ethernet cable plugged in or if there is a way to "turn off" the Ethernet connection from my pc when it goes down, so that I dont have to keep unplugging it.

I am not very technically minded and am worried if I go into advanced network settings etc that I might not be able to get the Ethernet working again once it is plugged in and back up and running.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

A:How can I switch to WIFI from Ethernet instantly??

You can have both plugged in and still work. Each NIC is assigned a metric and the NIC with the lowest metric will be used. If in your are the wired NIC is still seen as available but in fact it's having problems the computer will still try and use it unless you unplug the cable. If your computer supports a feature called LAN/WLAN switching that may work in your case that may work or may suffer from the same problem in which the wired NIC is still detected as connected and it won't switch. If you are only having an issue with the wired connection why not just stay on wireless?

When the WiFi button (F12) is pressed the LED show red and a message on-screen briefly says "Flight Mode ON" and the network connection icon in the notification area shows a red X. - this is expected - however When I press F12 the on screen message does breifly display "Flight Mode OFF", but the LED stays orange and WiFi is disbaled. If I click the network icon in the notification area the panel that appears says Flight Mode OFF, WiFi (OFF). I simply cannot re-enable the WiFi with the F12 key. If I go to Computer->Properties->Device Manager, select the Wireless Adapter I can switch the WiFi back on by going to the Advanced tab and selecting Radio->Enable. If I do this the let then goes white and WiFi is OK. So what is going on - why can't I simply toggle the WiFi off and on with the F12 key. Why to I have to resort to the device manager to switch it back on again?

Solved my own problem - if it help others ....the WiFi Driver update dated 25/09/12 caused the problem in my case.Right click on 'Computer' select 'Advanced' and open Device manager. Locate the WiFi Adapter and choose the 'Roll back driver option' to restore the previous driver - worked for me. You think someone would test drivers better than this !!!

I was using Windows 7 Home Basic preinstalled with the laptop since 2011. The laptop was working fine. After upgrading to Windows 10 the WiFi and Bluetooth is not working. Tried help from Microsoft remotely. According to them the drivers are not working and there is no updated drivers available for Windows 10 on HP website. The driver installed presently is "Broadcom 4313GN 802.11b/g/n 1x1 Wi-Fi Adapter".Please help and advise whether to stick with Windows 10 or to roll back to Windows 7 as I have an option to purchase a removable device to use WiFi and Bluetooth.I love the lightness of the new operating system. Hello @Banti2?, Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I read your post about the Windows 10 upgrade, and wanted to assist you!You can use the Go back to an earlier build option, in your System Settings: HP Notebook PCs - Upgrading to Windows 10Once you are back to your original Operating System, check to see if you are experiencing the same issue. If not, then you may consider holding off on the Windows 10 upgrade for a few weeks, until drivers can be updated. However, if you are able to get the WiFi and Bluetooth to work, using an external device, then you can continue to use Windows 10.  Keep in mind, that the rollback option is only good for the first 28 days, after installing Windows 10. Please let me know if this information was helpful by clicking the thumbs up below.Regards!

Hello, i noticed that when i'm turned on laptop to tablet mode (physically) wifi stops working or wifi signal becoming very low.  I'm using Lenovo thinkpad yoga 14. Maybe you have a solution for this problem?

A:Lenovo thinkpad yoga 14, wifi problem on tablet mo...

Hi, welcome to the forums.

Can you please post the full model number of your Thinkpad Yoga 14?
Are you using Windows 10?

I may suggest you first to try to update the Wifi drivers and maybe some other of the system driver of you Yoga.
Here are my general tips:

1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches
2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.
3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"
4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers (use the full model number of your Thinkpad).

After that we can try a little bit more. For example I also like to test it on some other Wifi networks just to be sure it is not a compatibility issue with the Wifi Router.

Regards
