Lenovo Y50 Hardware Question

Q: Lenovo Y50 Hardware Question

Hello! I just bought a Lenovo Y50 laptop and it came with Realtek RTL8188EU Wireless USB 2.0. It's really supposed to come with this wireless card? And it makes my right side 2.0 usb not functional, since if I put something there my wifi disables. So guys, it's real or I just got scammed? If anyone could send me link to this model's specification that says it's not supposed to come with this thing, please, I would love! It's the 80EJ model! Thank you! <3

Hello,

I recently have gotten a lenovo h50-50 and according to my dxdiag, it says the system model is 90B7005CUS.

Specs:

CPU: Core i3 4160 3.60GHz
Ram: 8GB
HDD: 1TB
OS: Windows 7 Professional that I custom installed
GPU: Intel HD Graphics 4400

So my questions is that my model's psu, how many watts is it?

I see this page: http://psref.lenovo.com/PSREFUploadF...50%20Tower.pdf

but I'm confused because it says "some" on all of them.

Thanks in advance.

A:Lenovo H50-50 Hardware question

Best way to be sure about that is to pull the side off, there will be a label on the PSU with that info.

Either way, they sure didn't over power them. Be glad you didn't get one of the AMD versions,

Need help returning my Lenovo Y50 Touch.I need help getting in touch with Lenovo technical support/customer service, so I can get a replacement laptop or return it. Thus far, my experience with trying to contact Lenovo directly has been frustrating and time consuming. Here?s the situation: I bought the laptop around the beginning of August 2015. At first, it worked fine. But then, after only a couple of months, it started to fall apart. Literally. And it wasn?t because of wear-and-tear, because I never even moved it from its original spot after taking it out of the box it came in.The problem is: where the laptop folds, is coming apart. For no reason. All I had been doing was opening and closing it. As I said, it has never been moved from the desk.I called Lenovo to try to explain the situation. No luck. I was transferred endlessly from one person to another, until eventually someone told me that Lenovo does not have technical support in the United States. (What?!!)At that point, I had been on the phone for about 30 minutes and did not have any more time to spare, so I just got off the phone and figured I?d try again another day.The problem continued to get worse. It?s now at the point where I don?t even close the computer because I?m afraid of doing further damage. I just leave it open. But it collects dust, which is not good.Recently, I began my quest again to get help from Lenovo. Again, I have become frustrated. This time, I tried to contact them via email or on... Read more

Hello again, it's been a while. In my last thread ( here ) I asked what I could upgrade my graphics card to, and the person who replied mentioned an upgrade to a GTX 750. I did some (heavily assisted) digging, and I came across the "EVGA GeForce GTX 950 FTW GAMING ACX 2.0" Would this card still be compatable, and if so, do I need anything (like, pin adapters or a new backplate for my case?) I know already that I need to  obtain a new Power unit, and I wouldn't mind reccomendations for that as well if there is a preference among the community. I think 500W should be enough? On another note, how will this affect my ability to use two monitors? Finally, is it possible to upgrade the RAM of the PC as well? It's not a neccesity, but another 4-8 GB would be a nice addition. Thank you for your time, and I apologise if I seem quite noobish, I'm not the most knowledgable when it comes to computer hardware.

I did a hardware scan with the Lenovo System Health and Diagnostic utility yesterday and apparently I found some errors.

I was already unable to use the AMD Graphic Card (I don't know the reason) and I always get the error "please turn on your wireless adapter/bluetooth server error".

I posted it on the Lenovo Forums and couldn't get any help.

Maybe someone from here can help me.

Hello, My laptop configuration:OS: Windows 10 64 bits (up-to-date)Model : Lenovo Ideapad Y700 15ISK (80NV)BIOS : CDCN37WW Five days ago the keyboard suddenly stopped to respond (nb : the Num Lock led remained on). I tried to restart Windows but since it could not (stucked on the reboot screen) I pressed the power button and heard a "clack" sound. When I restarted the computer the hard drive made some noices and the fans started to turn at high speed for ~3 seconds.NB : I upgraded to bios CDCN35WW few days before. After the incident I updated to CDCN37WW.  Today the problem happened again (keyboard not responding). Before trying to reboot I unpluged and pluged back my mouse (Lenovo gaming mouse). As I expected, it did not function once I pluged it back. I tried to log out before rebooting. At that time Windows crashed and I saw the BSOD for 1 second before the computer shut down and reboot showing the Novo Button Menu (the keyboard was still not responding at this time).I rebooted by pressing the power button, once again some worrysome electrical noices while I was doing so.The computer restarted and once again noices from the hard drive + fans at full speed. Any suggestion ? Are BIOS updates bugged ?Thanks in advance for any help.

The device is a 16GB Solid State Drive (SSD) that is used by the Lenovo box to speed performance by caching frequently-used areas from the main hard disk. The error indicates a fault with the SSD (I have had the same problem on 2 different SSDs after using them for about a year each). I'm not sure why the SSDs seem to keep doing this - perhaps the write cycle count of certain blocks is reached too quickly in this environment, or maybe the ExpressCache software used for this function is not completely bug-free. You can continue to use the SSD as it seems from my experience that it continues to work, but not quite as efficiently as the faulty block(s) would mean the data there would be fetched from the Hard Disk after all. It would be good to hear more on this from Lenovo so that we can figure out the best course of action.

My apologies if this post has been answered previously, but all which i have searched has not granted me a solution.......................

Hello people of Lenovo forums, i have been searching pages and trying to find solutions in regards to my laptop experiencing some problems with running games- i have never expererienced these problems before and as of yesterday problems began.
My laptop contains 6 GB RAM, i-5 3230M CPU and graphics card as stated above, running on Windows 8.1 Enterprise. I have tried a number of driver updates and downloads, sourced from the NVIDIA Control Panel and from the NVIDIA website, but none have improved my laptops condition.
I have been running Fallout 4 since release day (obviously....) and it has been working seemlessly on a high detail without any issues. Now when i run the game i am greeted by the usual menu screen, upon pressing continue or load game the loading screen appears (typically not showing the rotating image/s for sometime). Occasionally i am given the error message "Display Driver stopped responding and has recovered" ("Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernal Mode Driver, Version 354.35..") and the game force closes. This is the same for games like Stick of Truth and Shadow of Mordor. Again i have proceeded to download one driver directly from the NVIDIA Control Panel; and one other from the NVIDIA website titled "358.91-desktop-win8-64bit......". NEITHER HAVE DONE ANYTHING.

Okay, I'm buying a new hard drive and I'm looking for the best deal I can find. I have a K8V special edition motherboard and a 120 GB hard drive (Maxtor, not sure if SATA or not). My motherboard can support 2 SATAs but beyond that I don't know how many hard drives I can support. What I'm looking at is a 300GB hard drive "Maxtor 300GB 7200RPG Ultra16 PATA Internal Hard Drive" with 133MB/sec transfer speed. For the same price ($149) I can get a 200GB SATA with 150MB/sec speed. Three questions:

1) What's PATA, and can my motherboard support it?
2) Which hard drive am I better off getting, assuming I can use both?

Next, I recently tried upgrading my Windows (from XP to XP <_< there was a problem with getting SP2). I made it to the point where you have to reset your computer and go from there, but when I did the Windows setup ran into a missing file and couldn't go further. I restarted and had the option of choosing whether I wanna start up in normal XP or in the XP setup, so my original Windows is intact. But now I get that choice whenever I turn my computer on, and I'd like to know how to remove the XP setup as an option for starting up. Thanks for the help guys.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T440s that has two 15GB SSDs installed, along with a 1TB hard disk. The system came with one SSD that supposedly was used to speed up the boot process. Some months back the drive started showing up as just another disk on the system. I have no idea if its currently speeding up the boot process or not.

I've obtained a second SSD that fits in the M.2 spot on the mobo so I installed that too. I could install a wireless WAN in the M.2 spot and might later, but right now I have the SSD.

Long intro - here are the questions
1. How can I determine if the original SSD is still being used to speed up the boot process?
2. How can I take the best advantage of this second, small SSD?

Thanks for your help, group.

A:Lenovo Y50-70 Temperature question

Hi Agentaltair47 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

To best answer your query allow me to quote from one of the threads about temperature with regards to performance thru rockykoston.

"CPU temps for gaming are fine as long as they are below 90 celsius.

My CPU temps are between
73-79 for Fallout New Vegas (currently playing) - 79 max
80-85 for Dragon Age Inquisition - 85 max
75-80 for Shadow of Mordor
mostly all other games the CPU stays in the range of 70-75. Inquistion is the most graphics intensive game I am playing.

GPU temps are usually between 75-85 depending on the game.

My ambient temps are higher right now (28-30), resulting in these temps.

In short, your temps are perfectly normal. "

********** from a similar post

Ideally running the pc on minimum applications like clean boot when playing would help and likewise assuring that there is no running 3rd party application that can contribute to additional processes like malwares/ virus .

Ensure that the vents and filters are clean and not obtructed and if you feel a need for additional accessory to keep it cool.

But if you feel unusually warm on anyspot specially those that gets unnaturally warm , don't hesitate to call in tech support for further recommendation .

Hope this answered your query .

I just bought a Lenovo Ideapad Z570. It has two options for the battery charging. One is it charges the battery 100%. The other it only charges 50% and supposedly if you don't use your battery very often, it will extend the life of it. I don't use the battery very often, but would like to keep it charged 100% in case I need to use it. I would like to get an idea if the 50% option really saves that much on the battery. Any help is appreciated. Thanks,

I am at the point I need 5 ports. I have a dual internet connection on my desktop that requires teaming to work. What is the best way to handle this? Currently I am using a vonage Motorola router but I'm doing away with vonage and going over to ooma. I'll loose my router and have need to have 5 inputs now. I use the router with a static ip for my desktop to run emule as well as udp and tcp ports set up and haed ports set open for different things. I'm wondering if I need a hub or switch? I get the 2 confused. Oh I use a laptop plugged in to the router sometimes and I run a wireless router as a node off the router as well.
so that would be
2 inputs for the desktop teamed
1 input for the ooma phone system
1input for the laptop/ any other computer
1 input for the wireless router.
What are my best options?
Thanks,
JAG

This question should really be part of your other thread. http://forums.techguy.org/networking/967862-how-can-i-get-firewall.html

If you look at the VPN policy tab, you should see a choice to select FQDN for the remote peer. For the remote peer, you can set up a dynamic DNS domain name and then use that to resolve the IP address of the remote site.

1.
The answer is contained here:

The question is too broad to answer here. Refer to 1 above for crystal. Look up thermionic valve operation for vacuum tubes.

3.
Again too broad for a response here, but look up transistors and their operation.

I'm not sure if I have a problem or not. When I click on properities for both the floppy drive, and DVD/CD drive it shows no "free space" available on either one, even though I have nothing in the floppy drive, or a CD in the tray. Shouldn't the diagrams of the discs show nothing but "free" space?

..you don't have a problem. If there's no media in the trays, floppy or CD, then there's nothing on which to have any free space, ie '0'.

is there a kind of hardware or part that you put in your pc or something that the only way to turn it on is by puttin a key because i dont want to remeber passwords i'd rather have that you can use a key for your desktop pc

A:HArdware question

Hi dantheman...

At most electronic stores... including Radio Shack... you can get a key operated electronic switch. Make sure it's 120V and can handle 3 or more amps. You would put this switch in one of the electronic connections between the power cord plug input and the main power supply.

If you don't have the knowledge to do this... have it put in for you.

They also make a program that sets up a boot scheme that makes it necessary for the person using the computer to have a special floppy disk in the floppy drive before the computer will boot up.

Either way should work well.

I hope this hasn't been discussed elsewhere, but I checked all topics prior and I didn't see anything similar.
What I need to know is what hardware I need to be able to run a LAN and still have both computers in our home showing separate IP addresses? Our ISP has been less than helpful as each tech we've talked to has given a different answer. The ISP says we have 3 IP addy's available but our router only shows us as sharing 1 IP addy when we're online. At gaming sites, this causes problems.
Thanks in advance for any enlightenment you can supply.

A:Hardware question

Your router has to support several public IP addresses.

Usually the setting is under NAT, port forwarding or DMZ configuration and it allows you to map any external IP adresses to any local IPs.

These boards are ancient, but I want to be able to access separate sets of drives from one console by changing the control from one board to the other.

A:old hardware question

I don't see any way of slaving motherboards together. About the only thing you could do is to use a monitor/keyboard switch between different systems, so that you could control the different systems from one monitor and keyboard. BOL

I play The Sims?3 like crazy! I love the game and can never stop playing it. Unfortunately, my PC doesn't like it very well, as it seems, because the one widget I have on my desktop shows the CPU and Physical Memory readings. After the Memory gets to a certain point either over 80 or 90, the entire game freezes up and eventually quits. During game play, I have NO other programs opened to preserve CPU and memory usage.

Since I know this is not normal, would it be wise to buy an external cooling fan for the laptop or is there a "fix" for this?

A:Hardware Question

Maybe I misunderstood the question, but it does not sound like a cooling problem but a memory useage problem. If by 80-90 is useage, then you are running out of memory which causes the game to crash. However, I must say that I play several games too, not that one, but I have 8GB of memory and have never played a game that uses over 50-55% of my memory. I'm just wondering if there may be other problems.

Hi, i'm about to buy  pc and i found a lenovo m83 with pentium hasswell witch i like, but i also have a question regarding sistem ram On the official lenovo product page, it says that this lenovo m83 comes with udimm ram modules, so my question is if i can put "normal" ddr3 dimm memory or it only works with udimm ones? If so, it's bad, because udimm ram is kind of expansive in my country (double/triple when compared with normal ddr3 ones). The internet didin't really answered my question, so i hope that some m83 owner faced the same question and found an answer to it.Some internet users said that CL9 DDR3 ram should work with the sistem (not with udimm ram, sadly ), but if someone has an answer based in previous experience with lenovo pc's or similar/the same product i'll be grateful This sistem fits my today needs ( my pc kind of broke, and i was overdue for an upgrade anyway), but in time i want to change my psu, add a graphic card and put more ram (it only comes with 4 gigs). This is a quick question. I purchased a Lenovo laptop a few years ago with Windows 8 pre-installed.. it didn't work with any of my peripherals so I ended up doing a clean install of Windows 7... Am I right in assuming this would eliminate any Superfish issues with my computer? This is of course assuming that it was even installed on my Lenovo in the first place.

Thanks!

Hi there Lenovo community! I recently bought the 15-inch edition of the Y700 from Best Buy. I don't have it in my possession yet, but I'm already beginning to look for extra accessories and upgrades. For starters, it only comes with a 1TB HDD, and I wanted to get a SMALL M.2 SSD for the boot drive, just to get that extra burst of speed. Again, I don't need it to be big (especially since I'm trying to save money), so it can be below 100GB. So I just need to know exactly what M.2 model is compatible with this unit. Also, this model (80NW000PUS) apparently only comes with 8GB of RAM...is 16GB necessary or am I fine with only 8?  Hope to see some responses soon, thanks!

A:Lenovo Y700 (15 Inch) M.2 SSD Question

Hi Prince_AKR ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Similar to your query here in this discussion as fellow member also plans upgrade for additional SSD .

" Standard Memory ? DDR4-2133 MHz, SODIMM ◊ 2 (max 16 GB)
Hard disk drive  ? SSD, NGFF, 128 GB / 256 GB / 512 GB
So to answer your question, a 16GB RAM and 128GB is doable on this machine."

Further details as follows on the post.

8 GB is considered a sweet spot for basic to moderate computing need and 16GB would be useful for those using a lot of virtual application/ os and a lot of browser page all open at the same time. The FRU listing on your hardware manual would provide lenovo part numbers used on the model but do not limit users of their choices.

Hope this help answer your query for a good planned upgrade.

Regards

So I have been having some random freezes. The system can work perfectly fine playing video games for hours at a time and then randomly freeze watching some light weight videos. I originally thought it may be a software problem until it froze on the bios screen earlier tonight. The way its freezing points me to a video card or powersupply problem. First the display freezes. Then the screen turns off and goes black. Then the fans turn off with the keyboard lights turning off at the very end.

I have installed two different make SATA DVD burners in my puter with XP OS and they have worked well so far. The major advantage seems to be that when I back up my DVD's the software I use knows to go to the second burner when it's ready to burn the copy which eliminates the need to change DVD disks in only one burner. However one of my burners went bad (probably laser) and I want to replace that make with a new one identical to the other burner. I'm not sure if there will be any conflict(s) for hardware, software, firmware, etc. though I already know the motherboard has multiple SATA ports with no need to use master or slave cables of course, and evidently there's no trouble using two different make SATA's on the same computer (not necessarily at the same time).

Any advice or thoughts anyone?

Hi all.
I am wondering if some of you might be able to help me. I am going to be upgrading my current system (specs in bio) to the following hardware:
Motherboard: Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 mATX
CPU: AMD FX-4300 FOUR-CORE 3.8GHZ 8MB 95W
Memory: Kingston 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM X 2 for a total of 16 gig.

What I am wondering is if I can just upgrade the hardware, install the hard drive and boot up normally. Will Windows 10 recognize the new hardware and automatically load the drivers? I really do not want to to a re-install of of Windows and loose all of the other applications on the machine. I have roughly 500gb of programs and data on this hard drive.
I do have a new hard drive that I can use, but it currently has Windows 8.1 installed on it, but nothing else, just the operating system. It was also installed with my current configuration.
That hard drive that I want to keep is running a retail version of 8.1 and then upgraded to Windows 10.
Thanks for any help you can offer and I can post more information if needed.
Thanks in advance!

A:Hardware Upgrade Question(s)

Welcome to TenForums!

If you're changing out the motherboard (and it's different from the one you activated Win10 on) and CPU as well, the MS activation servers will see that as a differnt machine and will not re-activate - this assumes you have OEM license - if you have a retail license you could change what you want by gong rolling back (if that option is still available, or you have a full disk image to restore into that state) to the older retail licensed OS and redo the Win10 upgrade. Memory and/or disk drive upgrade will not impact Win10 activation status, based on what MS has said and others' experiences discussed here.

Hey guys! New to the forum and I've got a birthday coming up so I need some advice. I would like a piece of networking hardware that meets this criteria: In order of importance
A) Acts as an access point
B)Allows me to connect to my wireless network on a separate floor though an ethernet port
C) is >$100
Any input would be greatly appreciated

A:Networking hardware Question

Well, for (A) you could get any wireless router or wireless access point.

For (B), if I understand correctly, you could get an "ethernet converter" or a wireless router or wireless access point that also supports wireless bridge (or AP client) mode.

Usually I'd expect to find a wireless router or wireless access point with the (B) capability for around $50 to $80, but here is an example that meets your (C) criteria.

When you get your Cable or DSL the router would be the best way to go. Without the high-speed internet, having two machines, a hub would work just fine.

Windows 10 hardware requirements only specify a processor that runs over 1GHz.

All Pentium processors for socket 478 run faster than 1GHz

So any socket 478 processor should run Windows 10. Maybe not super speedy, but it will run it.

Looking at the hookups on this monster, it looks as if all you would need is basic left/right RCA jacks, and plug into the laptop through the earphone jack - quality wise, it might lack though.

Creative does make a Sound Blaster sound card for laptops though that slips into the PCMCI slot (that strange slot on the side of your computer that will either have a credit card-like dummy plug in it, or a flip up door) that might boost the sound quality from the laptop though. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102025&Tpk=sound blaster laptop

I have two computers with winxp. One has a canon printer attached by usb. It shows in the printers folder and device manager. The other has an hp multifunction printer with scanner and fax machine also attached by usb. It shows in the printers folder and device manager, but also as an external device with its own drive letter. Why would one show as an external device and not the other? Thanks.

I just have a couple questions about the hardware I plan on purchasing.

I currently have:
GeForce 4 Ti 4400
2100 DDR Ram 256
Dragon Lite KT333 Mobo
AMD Athlon XP 2200

Here are the items I want to buy:

EVGA GEFORCE FX5600 256MB DDR AGP 8X TV-OUT - DVI VC

^ Is this video card better then my current one? I know it has more memory, but I am not sure about the other numbers around it. And is it compatible with my motherboard?

512MB PC3200 DDR400 MEMORY
And will this ram be compatible? Or is it any good?

Thanks for any help.

I am building a new computer out of new parts, and i accidently forgot to look for a SATA connection harddrive and i bought a EIDE connection hard drive instead. But our CD drive plugs into the EIDE slot, so is there another way i'm not knowledagble enough to know about to hook up the hard drives?

Specs:
Western Digital EIDE Hard drive 160GB
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Motherboard
Rosewill case

Any more information needed ask.

A:EIDE Question (hardware)

Each IDE channel can handle 2 devices.
You need a 40 pin 80 connector cable with 2 drive connectors.
Connect the hard drive to the end of the cable and set the jumper on back to
master or master with slave.
Connect the CD to the middle and set it as slave.

Want to sign up for Bellsouth's new dsl pricing $24.95 a month.

Want to share with my son.

We live in separate buildings back to back.

Our back doors are 50 to 70 feet apart.

Will this work?

Does the wireless router and the wireless adapter have to be the same brand?

Thanks, Ron [email protected]

A:wireless hardware question

You shouldn't have any problems. It's probably not a bad idea to use the same brand network cards and router although it is not required. I've been using the Belkin Pre-N Router and Pre-N wireless cards with great results. This router is more expensive that regular G Rated Routers but the range and speed are superior to most Routers. At 70 feet, I don't think you should have any problems getting the signal with any router although I am not a big fan of DLink. I would probably go with a Linksys, Belkin, or SMC router.

Ok. I've been wanting to upgrade my computer for while but didn't want to because I've heard that you need to reformat your harddrive when upgrading Pentium 3 to a Pentium 4 processor. I also want to upgrade my video card so I be able to go and buy the newer computer games out their since alot of them need better computer specs. My computer is like 4 years old.

Do I need to actually reformat my computer. Is their anything I can do so I don't have to do it so I can keep everything I have on my pc and can upgrade my hardware.

Current Computer Specs:
Intel Pentium 3 Processor 866 Mhz
512 MB of Ram
Geforce 3 ti200 Video Card
Window XP Pro ServicePack 1
