HP Envy x360 Convertible - Plugged in, not charging

Q: HP Envy x360 Convertible - Plugged in, not charging

Hello, My HP Envy x360 15t convertible notebook is displaying an error on the battery icon. It says "12% available (plugged in, not charging)". The battery will charge to 100% if turned off, but will not when in use. I have searched and see many posts with a similar problem, but none of the solutions offered have worked. Here are the fixes I have tried: Uninstall Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and re-startPerformed hard re-set for notebooks with a factory sealed batteryAllowed battery to completely drain, and then re-charge to 100%Within HP Support Assistant:Battery Check - Primary Battery: OKChecked for updates, and installed all Any additional ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hi @Pink70? ,Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY x360 Convertible PC and issues with the battery charging while plugged in and on. I have checked into this and it would see that is is a power loss issue. Plug the power adapter directly into a functioning wall outlet. Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source as this could cause and issue. If that does not solve this, please use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/Case number and phone number appear. They will be happy to assist you immediately. My Envy-15 u011dx has recently recieved the dreaded plugged in not charging error. This started yesterday out of the blue. I have tried to disable to battery drivers and restart, new cords, new outlets, everything. It will hold a charge while plugged in but the second its off the chrager, it looses battery fast. It is out of warranty so I could try to remove the battery but I would need a replacement. Any help would be great!

The problems started ever since a regular windows update and bios update through HP Support Assistant went through.  Following those updates, my laptop now stutters and lags every 5-10 seconds whenever I play a game WHILE CHARGING. This was not a problem before the updates. Attempting to solve the problem, I reset my laptop a couple times and started from scratch. I made sure battery settings were at max or balanced.  Those haven't worked. The thing is, I can play League Of Legends and other games on high quality on only the battery. Only when it's charging does it begin to stutter and lag. It's been a couple months since this problem came and I have yet to figure out a solution.  I am dying at the fact that a 700$+ laptop is making gaming ineffective in comparison to my 6 year laptop.

We have an Envy x360, which has an internal battery that you cannot remove, or check to ensure it is seated properly without voiding the warranty. We cannot currently use the laptop without it being plugged in, as it is showing "plugged in, battery not charging, 0%".We have tried other charging cables.  No luck.   We have tried unplugging it then holding down the power key to drain then restarting.  No luck. We have tried going to contol panel and removing the ACPI compliant battery control and restarting.  No luck. We are at wits end. Any suggestions? Thank you!

I need help trying to find a stylus that would work for the HP ENVY x360 m6 Convertible.   This was a recent purchase and I chose the 2 in 1 laptop for the versatility to use it as a teaching tool (writing notes in one note).  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  I do not want the option of a rubber tip generic stylus but would prefer something that has more sensitivity and pressure as I also have a surface pro at school (the envy is my home computer).  Thanks!

So, back about a month ago, I purchased an HP Envy x360 from Best Buy. Now I thought the laptop was great and all and it works perfectly fine. However, after moving away to college, I noticed in my dorm that when my room was quiet, I could hear this static/scratching noise coming from the upper right hand corner of my laptop keyboard. Now, at first, I sort of dismissed this and I found this out well past the return policy date for Best Buy. However, this noise eventually started to get really annoying. It constantly disrupts me while I am studying and honestly, for an $800 laptop, I expected something that didn't make a sound like this. Nonetheless, I have tried everything in terms of updating BIOS and drivers and that has lead me to zero success. I am assuming the noise is coming from the hard disk of the laptop although I am not entirely sure. As of right now, I cannot send my laptop in for repair because I need it for school work and having it gone for 7-9 days may be a bit of a problem for me at this time. Is there any alternative ways I could try to solve this issue? And is there any possible explanation as to why my laptop is making this annoying noise? Thank you! Product Number: W2K42UA#ABA

Today, I noticed my laptop kept shutting itself down every time it was accidentally unplugged. Then, I looked at the battery and it's at 6% battery life and says "Plugged in, not charging".  I shut down the computer and let it charge for a few hours while we went to dinner, it did not charge at all (in fact, it went down, it was 7% before I left the house).  Still automatically shuts off if I unplug.   I've tried the battery test but the computer won't even turn itself on since the battery is so low so that is out of the question.

I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion x360 and issues with the Battery. Here is a link to calibrate and test the Battery.  Here is a link to troubleshoot the battery on a Notebook. You should be able to complete these with the Notebook plugged into the AC adapter. Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Hello,My HP Envy 15 laptop started having this an issue about 2 days ago. I was in class and it was plugged into power when suddenly the computer crashed. No warnings, no shut down screen. it just instantly turned off. Unfortunately, it is a few years old and the warranty expired in January this year. I had not done any hardware upgrades/changes it was completely out of nowhere. I then went home and plugged it in. There was no power charge light beside the power cord on the side of the laptop, however I came back 20 minutes later and there was a white charge light. I then powered it up and was on it for about 10 minutes before it crashed again. It is sitting on my desk now on charge. no lights on or anything and it won't turn on. I have tried turning it on just on battery power, I have tried just on ac power and none will work, Any suggestions would be much appreciated

Hey there, I'm trying to upgrade the memory in my 13-a021nr laptop. I used the crucial memory finder tool, selected my laptop model number, and the results showed a maximum of 16gb, 1866mhz 2x8gb low voltage memory The crucial scanner tool however showed only 1 slot was available, with a maximum capacity of 8gb. CPUZ and Speccy show 2 slots, with mismatched RAM. 1 was the manufacture installed 2gb of PC3L 12800s, the other chip was a 4gb of the same tyepe, from a different manufacturer, with different timings but same frequency. Since the chips were mismatched, the memory was running in single channel mode. So I started thinking, maybe the 2nd chip is soldered to the board.. I figured I would order a 16gb kit, and if there was only 1 slot then so be it. I didn't want to have to open the laptop twice. I heard this APU is severely dependant on having fast memory in order to perform. That's the main reason I decided to do the upgrade since the ram was running at low frequency, loose timings, and single channel, there should be noticeable improvement. I also ordered a 480gb SSD to step things up while I was at it.The SSD installed just fine, the ram however, is giving me issues. It is not running at the 889mhz it is supposed to. Both chips are recognized, the SPID are showing up correctly, but they are running at 665.3 mhz, and still running in single channel mode.   I looked into the bios, and saw there were no options ... HP Pavilion x360 m1 Convertible keyboard becomes disabled with screen "flexed" around 360 degrees.  A larger monitor is plugged into HDMI port and it works fine. Keyboard works with screen in normal approximately 100 degree postions all the way to flat (180 degrees).  But if screen is "flexed" past flat then keyboard becomes disabled. Mouse does work when screen "flexed" or folded. The unit is new with no software additions. The reason for wanting to fold the screen all the way under is that the space available to rest the laptop on is too narrow to accomodate the full size of the unit with the screen folded out to 180 instead of  able to be folded underneath the main body/keyboard. How to enable keyboard to work with screen folded all the way around 360 degrees? Thanks

The texts get covered by black boxes, but they dissapear once you move the cursour on them and when you change from program to another the screen "flickers" (picture below). I don't knwo the reason. Few weeks ago my computer had a major update. could it be the reason? Thanks!! p.s. I'm not sure if this is connected to the previous but earlier when i turned the compute on boot manager came on with options of "OS boot manager (UEFI)" and "Boot from EFI File".I chose the first one based on what i read about them. Should I be worried? :/

I contacted the support team which transferred me to HP TotalCare represntative. After the update I lost about 10 gig of memory. The support loaded some software onto the computer, analyzed the system, cleaned up and removed what wasn't needed. I regained my lost memory, Total Care was excellant with their help. Reoccuring issue started on October 23, 2016. I have a new 15" HP Sepctre x360 convertible model T6T09UA#ABA that seems to be having issues with wireless logitech mice "sticking"  Both the scroll wheel and moving the mouse causes a pause, stick, or jump of the curser or screen while web browsing, using applications, or just moving across the desktop.  The built in touch pad scrolls and moves everything smoothly and with perfect precision.  I've tried three different models of logitech mice that work well on other laptops and all three exhibited the sticking, jumpy, jerky kind of behavior.  It's not a surface/sensor issue because I'm testing with other laptops on the same surface.   I even bought HP's bluetooth 4000 mouse and that had the same problem as the logitech mice.  How do I get mouse movement/screen scrolling to be as smooth and perfect as using the built in track pad?  Making adjustments in the mouse control panel in Windows 10 does nothing for this movement/sticking issue.  Anyone else experiencing it on this laptop?

i have been using this laptop for 2 years i get it from my friend .

from start it always charges battery upto 56 percent.

and i thought that there is problem in the battery cell and in few months battery backup becomes very short.

Yesterday i bought a new battery for my laptop but it is giving me the same problem which i had with my previous battery.

So this is not battery problem.

Things i have tried

1)Removing battery and uninstalling windows ac adaptor from Device manager.

2)Removing both battery and power Adaptor and pushing the power button for 20 sec if there is any residuel current.

Nothing has worked for me so far.

I would be thankful for your guidance.

Hey,

I just got my computer back from having the motherboard switched out because of another problem, but now my battery will not charge. The light is on and it says it is charging, but it isn't. Should I attempt a gauge reset or something else?

It is a Lenovo y50, which I have had for 3 months. The battery needs to be unscrewed from the back.
Thanks!

A:Says plugged in and charging, but is not charging. Just got motherboard fixed.

If it is not charging maybe the battery is defective.
Did they gave you back the original charger?
Did they install another different motherboard which might use a different charger?
You may need to contact the person who repaired it to find out.

Hi,
I have a dell xps 12, bought in 2012. Recently the battery stopped charging. The battery shows 0%, so I have to be plugged in to turn the laptop on. When it is on, the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, charging" but after a day it is still 0%.
Since then I bought a new battery. Just fitted it, but now the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, not charging". Furthermore, when I Fn+F3 to show the battery meter, it says "battery charging diabled". There is no option here to turn battery charging on. Nor is there an option to enable battery charging in BIOS.
BIOS does show battery performing normally, so does the battery meter (Fn+F3). BIOS also shows AC adapter as 45W, which is the original adapter.
Any help is appreciated!

What's the difference between the HP Spectre x360 and the HP Envy x360? They both look the same. The only noticeable difference is that HP Spectre x360 has a Radiance Infinity display, while HP Envy x360 has an IPS display. Having the same specs, except for the display, why is the Spectre x360 more expensive than the Envy x360 ? Moreover, I thought that IPS is better than TN, which is my guess that is the technology used for the Radiance Infinity.

I've had my HP Envy laptop for about 3 months, and yesterday I noticed that when it was plugged in it wasn't charging (the battery icon says "plugged in, not charging"). I turned it off overnight, plugged in, and this morning the battery was fully charged. It only seems to not charge when it is turned on. I have tried removing the battery, turning on, deleting the ACPI-compliant control method battery, turning off, and turning back on again (as advised in other forum responses), but with no joy. At first I thought it could either be a battery issue, but the fact it fully charged overnight whilst off would lead me to believe it's not, and is probably a software / settings issue. Need Help!

The problem started from June 2, 2015 about 4 AM (UTC +8:00 Philippine, Manila)

I open my Notebook that morning to check on my e-mails and bills at gmail but it's not powering up. At first I thought that the battery was slightly drained because I saw my sister still using it at midnight. I asked her if she did not plugged in the charger when it is nearly drained but she said she plugged it and it is still full when she shut it down.

It is Li-ion Battery

I tried plugging in the charger to check whether it still has remaining battery. It powered up.
On the taskbar/notifications/running apps it says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging).
So to check out the problem, I left it turned off charging for about two hours.

Then after two hours it still says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
What the hell is this?! I asked my self.
I installed an app to check the status of the battery (Battery Bar)
Battery Bar says something like this:
Capacity: 2K of 8K mWh (not sure about this)
Charging: 0 mW
Running on AC
7.9% Available
Something like that.

Summary Notes:
1. Does not power up without Charger
2. It detects the Battery saying 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
3. Though Plugged In, Charging it does not charge at all because of 0 mW charge rate
4. It turns off when the Charger is plugged out.
5. It still run even without the Battery (when the Charger was plugged in of course, then a red x mark shows in the notification taskbar battery icon)

Thus:
1. The problem is som... Read more

I am not sure if the battery is the problem, but it seems to be. When plugged in, the battery will not charge UNLESS the computer is shut down. Then it seems to charge. When turned back on, it might charge for a minute or two but then it's back to the message "plugged in, not charging." The battery life stays consistant when plugged in, it just won't charge any higher. At the moment it is stuck at 87% after dying on me this morning. I was working perfectly last night.  I have taken the battery out and turned the computer on with only the AC plugged in and it does work. My theory is it's the battery but I'm not sure.  The last thing I did was run a battery test and an AC adapter test through the UEFI menu. Both passed. Can someone please help? I am so lost on what I should do now!

The lap top charging led no longer lights up and the battery doesn't charge. About 1 wk after warranty expired (end of APril) i turned one the laptop and used it for a while when a warning poped up indicating low battery and asked to connect to AC. Once plugged in, I noticed that the led light did not come on nor the power icon indicated AC. Searched this forum and found Re: My HP Spectre 360 laptop crashed suddenly and won't charge.Just before the the battery emptied, I  managed to complete the suggestion including hard reset and UEFI hardware test. Which passed. Along the way, I noticed NO beeps or power led blinking. Also, used a multimeter to measured the output of the charger when plugged into AC which showed similar measurements as for another HP charger. Unfortunately this charge's plug won't fit the Specter. The laptop is now unusable. Am hoping someone can help me recover this laptop and my investement. Thanks in advance.

I recently purchased my laptop this past April and it has stopped charging.  I thought it was the charger since my guinea pig chewed the mickey mouse cable a bit, so I got a replacement in the mail.  However, replacing the cable did not solve the issue.  The partially chewed cable worked up until the day I installed Windows 10, coincidentally.  I'm just wondering if it's possible that installing Windows 10 could have caused some unkown bug to cause my laptop to stop charging.  I really don't think it's the charger since it is brand new.  Please can anybody help me?  Thank you. P.S. The laptop battery is dead so I cannot turn it on to check drivers or bios.

The exact same thing happened to me. I received a new adapter and power cord from HP, as my Spectre is only 5 weeks old. The new power cord and adapter didn't work and now my laptop won't even turn on. I wish I could help, but I have no idea what to do to fix my own laptop since it won't turn on.

Hello. I have just bought this notebook and I searching on google i noticed it has an internal M.2 port next to the HDD, and in this hp official manual it mentions M.2 SSS support, but not for this specified model. How do i check compatibility ? (mostly with BIOS). It would be awesome if i could add a SSD without loosing the 1TB hdd.  Thank you.

Hi @threadfin410?, What email are you using (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo...)? And are you accessing it in an Internet browser? Do you access the same email account on any other devices? When the messages are deleted, can you still find them in your Deleted/Trash folder? Any additional info would be helpful.

My envy x360 m6 ae151dx makes some rattling noises seemingly from the fan. Should I worry about this? If I buy a laptop cooler, will it be fixed?

I've had this HP Envy for a little over a year now, and shortly after having it the keyboard backlight just stopped working.  It didn't really bother me until recently, as now I find that I'm in situations where the backlight would be handy. I've tried restoring the BIOS to the default, and I've tried updating the BIOS.  The designated backlight key also does not work anymore, but its alternate fn command (f5) works.

My computer is less than a month old and it shut down on me. I have charged it and left it but when I press the power button the fan starts aND the caps key blinks but it doesn't turn on. Then is it stops and tries to turn on again. Nothing shows up on the screen at all. I don't think my hard drive is turning on. I have not dropped it, spilled anything on it, had it in heat or anything. I need this to be fix asap!

A:HP Envy x360 Won't Turn On

Hi ambowditch.  so, your notebook having issue with no display & caps lock is blink. caps lock blink is actually was an error which is notebook motherboard was try to tell to user.what u need to do is, try to count how many time caps lock is blink.  try do following troubleshooting first before u count the caps lock blink. 1. perform power cycle. remove battery & power adapter. then press & hold power button for 30 sec. then plug in power adapter only and power on the unit. make sure battery is not installed. if you lucky, may be the notebook will start with HP Logo and windows will load as usual. but if not, try to count how many time caps lock is blink. thanks. ghost. Please mark my post as SOLVED if it has resolved your problem. Hello, I have an Envy x360 15t-w000 purchased a little over a year ago.  Product number K8Q06AV.  I recently cracked my screen and am having trouble locating a digitizer.  I do not need an LCD, just the digitizer.  Could you possible tell me where I could purchase one?  Thank you!

A:HP Envy x360 15t-w000

This looks like one or both of these may be the correct part. HP's Manual: Manual provides no part number for the digitizer and glass. I would suggest pulling the screen and disassembling down to the glass and digitizer and compare to the pictures in the auctions: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Envy-x360-15t-15t-w100-Touch-Screen-Glass-with-digitizer-Assembly-15-6-Ne... http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Envy-x360-15t-15t-w000-Touch-Screen-Glass-with-digitizer-Assembly-15-6-Ne... If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Hi, I'm having trouble with Windows Hello. When I first purchased my notebook, Windows Hello was working fine, I had set it up correctly and had been using it successfully for a couple of weeks. Now, it's suddenly not working, and when I try to configure it in settings, there's an error that it cannot find the camera. I've been through the support blogs/forums and tried everything I could find, i.e. updating the software drivers, updating bios, restarting, etc. I have no idea how to get it working again. I can still unlock with my pin/password but it's just inconvenient when it was so quick to use Windows Hello before.  If anyone can help that would be fab!  Cheers

Hi, looking for a convertible, X360 style, laptop. The IT guy says I need i7 with dedicated graphics and it needs to be able to replace my desktop so run dual screens, hook up to the network, sit off to the side of my desk while I use a full keyboard. The HP Envy X360 seems to tick the i7 and graphics card boxes but I just can't find out whether there is anyway to replicate a normal docking station....anyone able to help?

My HP Envy x360 laptop keeps restarting every time I open my lid. My settings are already on Sleep mode for when I close the lid. This just started occurring recently and I've already tried running quick tests via F2 function and upgraded the BIOS. Doing a system recovery is my last resort.
