I have an HP Envy 15t J100 with a cracked LCD non touch screen. I found an HP 15t J100 touchsmart replacement LCD and wanted to know if it would work with my laptop even though it was not originally a touch screen laptop?

Hello, I have a 2  year old HP Envy 15 model 15t-j100.  I've had no problems with it until recently. Over the past week my screen will flicker and get fuzzy. It's most dramatic on the left side . Does this every day now.   The issue will go away if I put a little bit of pressure onto the bezel of the screen, so I know it's the screen (HW) and not a software issue. What can I do. I am out of warranty.

I purchased this system on 9/18/2013 and the TouchSmart screen is unresponsive to finger touch.  When accessing the Control Panel, I can open Pen and Touch but it does not do anything, nor does opeing Calibration allow finger touch to be recognized.  Please help!!

Hi, My HP ENVY 23 TouchSMART AiO Pc is no longer working.  When I power on nothing appears on the screen at all - it remains black at all times.  I can hear the fan or something inside making noises so it's getting some sort of power.   I have to hold down the power button to switch it off. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can bring it back to life please?  All my data is backed up so I'm happy with any extreme options. Cheers,Andy

I'm not too sure what is the problem with my girlfriend's computer, it was working perfectly fine for the past 3 years we've had it but all of a sudden when she came home and tryed to wake it up from sleep mode, it was just a black screen...we then proceeded to reset the computer and unplugged the power cable from the back and let it sit for a little over an hour. I came back thinking maybe the computer just overheated or something and it needed to cool down but instead every single time I turn it on...the light on the top goes on, i hear the fans start up like it normally would if there were no problems but the screen is just black and doesnt change...i even let it sit like that for a good hour or so and nothing seemed to happen. I read on other HP forums to try to press F10 as the computer starts up to open BIOS but my keyboard won't even light up or work. Does anyone have a fix for this? Is it internal or what? I thought maybe it would be something wrong with the MOBO but i would think if it was, it wouldnt even turn on at all...I appreciate any responses, Thanks. (Also we did update to windows 10 but that was about 1-2 months ago and there was no problems at all after installing it)

Please help! The touch screen on my Envy laptop no longer works. I've tried restarting and shutting off, but to no avail. When I go to PC Info, it tells me that: "No pen or touch input is available for this display." This is obviously incorrect, because my laptop is, in fact, a touch screen. Learn How to Post and More. I understand that your touchscreen is not functioning.  When you looked in PC info, you see "No pen or touch input is available for this display" I suggest you uninstall and delete the display driver. Recently my HP Touchsmart display stopped working. The fans turn on, the hard drive, and DVD drives spin but nothing is displayed on the screen... It is completely black or blank. I replaced the video card and that did not help the situation. I have also tried literally dozens of times resetting the bios via the jumpers because I read someother threads on this forum suggesting that might help and I've had no luck. Any other advise or suggestions to try? If I am unable to fix it myself, can anyone suggest a repair shop to help get it up and running? Thanks in advance for your help!

I have an HP ENVY Touchsmart 15 (Windows 8) which now showing black screen after  recent BIOS update.  The laptop will power up, but the screen remains black.  The power light remains on, but the screen, CAPS LOCK and WIFI buttons remains unresponsive and don't seem to flash an eroor code.  The sound of the HDD can be heard on boot up, as can the fans. I'm at a bit of a loss where to go from here, if you can guide me than I can resolve the issue.  I can see a few people have had similar problems with other models. If anyone has any suggestions or guidance I'd be extremely grateful.

It seems from the forum posts that there are many many people with the same issue, and no solution to the problem!  When will HP take responsibility for this issue and provide a solution? The issue is the "Touchsmart" screen is no longer responding to touch!!!  What's the point of a touch screen laptop if it does not respond to touch!!!! I have been through all the proposed solutions ... device manager... etc. etc... but still nothing... Under System: Pen and Touch it says: It says no pen or touch input is available for this display Please can HP help its customers resolve this issue?

This seems to be a driver related issue, but could be related to something else as well. To being, please perform a hard reset. Next, I recommend restoring the BIOS so the notebook will research the hardware that it has installed. HP Notebook PCs - Restoring the BIOS Once the BIOS restoration is complete follow the steps in this touchscreen troubleshooting document, I know you have completed most of the steps from it but doing it after the BIOS restoration is key. HP Notebook PCs - Touch Screen Issues (Windows 10)(If component tests is not an option in step four of that document, use the testing for hardware failures document) HP Notebook PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 10, 8) I look forward to your reply with the results!

The touchscreen stopped working suddenly. At first i though it was like a normal failure and that will get fixed by turning the pc of or restarting so I did not pay attention to it until now that I had restart my pc multiple times. Currently running win10. I started to believe it was because of an update a few days ago since it was when the problem started. I have checked for the HID-compliant Touch Screen driver.

The laptop: HP Envy TouchSmart 15 Notebook PC (15-j173cl)Windows 8.1 Pro The problem: I use an external monitor, so my laptop is usually shut.  Randomly, my touch screen THINKS something is touching it, which disrupts whatever I'm doing.  I would like to disable the touch screen completely, as I do not use it at all. I thought maybe the latch wasn't closing properly, but the screen resolution changes when I shut the laptop, so it KNOWS it's closed and switches to the proper resolution for my external monitor, but it DOES NOT disactivate the touch screen, and some dirt or something is touching it, changing where my mouse is pointed, where I am typing, etc. I have tried cleaning the screen and keyboard with compressed air. The problem happens randomly; sometimes when I CAD for the day, sometimes after hours of working.

You can do this by going into Device Manager > click the + or > by Human Interface Devices > right click on HID-compliant touch screen > choose disable. This will have disabled the touch ability. About a month ago the cursor on my laptop screen disappeared and the clickpad stopped working. The touch screen still worked. I closed it down as I had to run and when I came back it was back. Nothing wrong after that. This morning I was on my laptop walked away for a minute and came back and the same thing happened. This time it's not coming back though.

I went into the control panel and installed all the updates that were available but that didn't help. Any other ideas of what to do to get it to work again? From what I can tell there isn't a "shutoff" for the clickpad that I might have hit.

Any help would be much appreciated!

My son's laptop stopped somewhere between school and home.  Will not start up.  System Extensive Test hard drive short dst failed.  We need a rescue disk kit (he was not backing up, he never told me he was getting renewal notices about support.  Support has ended.  This modle Envy 17 no longer made.  What rescue disk do I need, this modle is not listed.  IS there still a rescue disk for this machine?

I just recently brought my laptop in to be looked at/repaired. The local technician told me that my laptop system board died due to the Windows 10 updates not playing nice with my old Windows 7 operating system (originally, my laptop had Windows 7 Home, last July I upgraded to Windows 10). I have started to look for a new replacement system board, however I have a few questions. I looked at the service manual for my laptop and can't figure out which replacement system board is adaquate/what they all mean. The serial number of my current system board in my laptop  is 720566-001. I googled this system board number and keep finding results with 720566-501 and 720566-001 in the title for the same system board. Most boards I find on eBay also have the number as 720566-501. My question is this: Will I be able to use a 720566-501 system board to replace my current 720566-001 system board?

The back left hinge connecting my laptop's keyboard base and screen has broken. It has been deteriorating quickly over the past week or so and is now actually lifting up the metal casing of my laptop when I open and close it.  I bought this laptop in 2013 and have never had an issue with it until now. I've seen countless posts about the hinge of these models breaking around the same time of general use. I purchased an HP Envy 15t-j100 laptop two years ago that I use for home and work.  I have never had a problem with it until today.  I was stretched out working this afternoon, when I noticed that the space between my monitor and my keyboard were out of alignment.  I closed the laptop, and upon investigation, found that one of the hinges is cracked.  I have not dropped the unit and I am the sole user of this laptop.  I realize that I am out of warranty and I am in no position to cover a costly repair.  I'm worried now that I googled the problem and found that a failed hinge on this unit is common, as I also purchased this laptop for my father less than a year ago.  I have had excellent service from HP in the past and I hope that thi s time will be no different.  Can you please tell me if there is anything that can be done to remedy this cracked hinge before it gets worse and causes other problems?  I'm afraid to move my laptop off the kitchen counter, for fear that the keyboard will come apart, as the cracked hinge seems to be pulling the keyboard open.

i just got my customied envy with nvidia GPU. 740 M. but i figured out that my pc is running on intel's gpu. also. when  tried to reinstall nvidia's driver from the website. i got the blue screen of death(its kinda different in win8) but things didn't work. also. in nvidia controll panel. i only have 3D settings? how do i fix this and make nvidia card the default.

Hi, i'm looking to upgrade my Laptop with a Solid State Drive. Is there a list of supported hard drive configurations or is it possible to use any combination? I'd like to continue using the currently installed disc as a secondary drive (1TB HDD) if possible since my laptop has two hard drive slots. (migrating the OS to the SSD, which would then be Disc 1, and using the currently installed disc as Disc 2). Is this possible? Thanks in advance for your reply!

Hi, I think you are talking about disk, not disc (normally for CD/DVD or BD). Yes, basically you can use any SSD. There are many around but current hot is Samsung  850 Evo for price / performace            http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/memory-storage/memory-storage/ssd/MZ-75E1T0BW My suggestion: use 1TB (same size with the existing HDD) and simply clone the whole old HDD to SSD then make SSD as drive 1. You may get a small problem: even your machine has 2 bays but no cable inside for bay 2. As has happened with many other people, the left hinge on my laptop is breaking loose.  I just dumped out a bunch of loose plastic chips that were rattling around inside.  I have to hold the bottom half of the case closed to keep the hinge from prying the case open when closing the laptop.  The right hinge seems OK so far.  I assume I need to get this fixed...

Hi All, I use to play to FIFA 15  and games like , COD , Watch Dogs , My lap hangs like  a hell. I was wondering whats wrong with my lap as i have 16 GB RAM & 2 GB NVIDIA Graphics . Then i have checked for NVIDIA graphics software , so that i can alter some settings but much to my surprise there was no graphics software installed. I have the same problem as many others on the forum-the left side hinge broke in normal usage.   The laptop is out of warranty by 8 months.  I called HP support and was informed there is no recall.  This is my wife's latpop that she uses for many hours each day.   Is there any assistance available from HP?  I am sure this is a manufacturing defect. Regards,

Hi, my HP ENVY 17t-j100 Leap Motion QE CTO Notebook PC came with two harddrives. Both are 1TB (5400 rpm). The primary harddrive has broken. I was wondering what is the maximum size of hard drive that  I can replace? Some details? Is it SATA III? should I buy 5400 rpm or 7200 rpm? does 3GB/S or 6GB/S matters? I have my brothers laptop and have replaced the screen for him. It may not be relevant but I have also installed an SSD hard drive.I removed the broken screen to get the part number to be able to order a new one.While I was waiting for the new screen to be delivered, I connected a monitor via the HDMI port and installed Windows 10 Pro, anti-virus and anti-malware software along with numerous windows updates. All worked fine and the laptop had been rebooted several times. However, I powered it off, connected the new screen, using the four screws to hold it in place, then powered it on.The power light illuminates for anywhere from 2-4/5 seconds then goes out and that's it! I attempted the "hard reset" prodecure I found posted on the boards, to no avail. I have also disconnected the battery and reconnected it, disconnected the CMOS battery and reconnected it and finally removed and reseated the two memory modules installed. So, I am unable to confirm the new screen definitely works but on the other hand it looks like it could be a motherboard failure just coinciding with the screen being replaced? Is there anything else it could be or I can try? I am confused as the laptop has been running the past two or three days while I have installed new hardware and a new OS.Help!!

My laptop will no longer turn on.  When the AC adapter is plugged in, the LED light is white indicating power is arriving at the laptop. However, nothing happens when I push the power button. Troubleshooting steps I have completed already include: Hard reset (several times including after each step below)Tried starting without the batteryRemoved all removable components and reseated themRemoved all removable components as well as bottom cover. Cleaned with compressed air. Put everything back.Nothing appears wrong and nothing happened between the last time it turned on and this time that I am aware of. The laptop is out of warranty, and I am pretty handy with computers. Is there anything that can be suggested short of a hardware replacement that would help get this resolved? TIA

Performed a bios update on my dj/music laptop, after restart the screen remained black with wifi light remaining orange and the caps lock blinking twice every so often. Ive tried downloading the bios recovery and throwing it on a usb, under the hp tools and all that jazz. But upon doing the procedure after the power and windows-B the flash drive lights up and flickers then stops and caps lock starts blinking twice again. Im in dire need to fix this cause i have a festival in 3 weeks. Any input or guide to fixing this would be greatly appreciated.

I had a couple plastic screw inserts that hold the right side hinge to the top cover of the laptop break due to very high strength of the hinges which caused the top cover of the laptop to pry apart from the base enclosure when opened (a problem many owners of this laptop model have had). Since I was out of warranty I ordered a replacement on Ebay using the correct part number 720570-001 and disassembled my laptop to make the repairs and loosen the hinges while I was at it. I swapped out all parts being careful to note where and how plugs and ribbons were connected so I could put it back together correctly. Now after having it reassembled it will not turn on.
 
I get a white LED light to turn on when I plug in the power cord AC adapter (should be amber/orange in color to signify it is charging the battery) but no other sounds lights or signs of life. I have attempted to remove the battery and power cord, pressed the power button for 8-30 seconds to drain power and do a reset and then try to power up with plugging in the power cord but it won’t turn on. I also tried to power up by removing one part at a time including the hard drive, two RAM sticks, and wireless card but still not able to turn on. Hi, I'm having troubles turning my laptop on. I have a Hp Envy 15 Touchsmart. I've tried doing a reboot by taking the battery out and holding power for a minute and trying to reboot it but nothing happened. It was plugged in and fully charged when it turned off. The charging light is still on when it is plugged into the wall.A few weeks ago it randomly restarted and shut off when I was watching a movie on it but it rebooted no problem.My phone fell out of my hand 3 nights ago and landed just left of the track pad when it shut off and won't turn back on.

Greetings,    I have owned this laptop for over 2 years and have encountered many problems which have required me to open up my laptop and remove debree/dust from the interior. My last adventure included removing the fan and heatsink from the inside, but when I assembled the laptop back together it will not start up. When plugged in the white led light still shows next the the charger socket, but the power button will not light up after several tries. The fan does not start to spin either.   I have tried the hold the power for 1 minute idea, but it does not change anything.I have 3 possible conclusion that are very unlikly to me.1.  I worked on carpet and had static  electrickery! Doubt it.2. The harddrive is not working properly3. The memory is not working properlyAny fixes to these above? any other possible causes?

hello.it's been 2 years since i use this pc and it works just well,but today,when i turned on the pc it can't boot. It just turned on,but the screen show nothing,and when i say nothing i mean really really just like it doesn't get turned on. i tried to push the DVD button and it is still working,the light on the power button also work,and everytime i tried to turned it on and off the sound of the pc turned on still can be heard. so its just like everything is ok but the computer isn't booting.ussually before this happened,it took only 3 seconds after i turned on the pc,to boot into the loading screen,but now it does nothing.one day before,i upgraded to windows 10. and it is still working,the next day it is also still working,then i shut it down. the next time i tried it(ijust about 15 minutes i turned it off ,it won't boot. ) i don't know if this is related,but in the internet people said that things like this happened because of the hardware and not the software.please help me,i really need this pc to get back to work thank you,and sorry for my bad english

Hi Recently had comupter wiped due to disk error.  Now powers up but goes no further.  Cannot get into BIOS or get any further. Just blank screen and fan/light is on Tried booting from USB and DVD to reinstall windows but no joy. All I really want to do is get running again with any O/S.  I have most of my data secured and expect to lose the rest

HP Envy Touchsmart M6 Sleekbook turned off suddenly and won't boot now.   Power and WiFi light for a few seconds and then nothing, will not actually power on.  Following some related posts I openned it, unplugged battery, plugged in wall and tried to power on. The same lights come on, the power button and wi if for a couple of seconds and nothing. This time though the fan did come on, or at least it sounds like a fan, it's a whisper fan so it was always unnoticeable.Is is there something else I can try? Desperate....

Hi! So, I am trying to replace my Envy 17's 1TB magnetic hard drive with a 500GB Samsung 850 Evo Sata form factor SSD. I followed the Maintenance and Replacement guide at http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04091762 , but when it came time to actually extract the hard drive from my computer, I could not figure out how to do it. I took a few pictures of what it looks like inside my computer, and they are in here: https://goo.gl/photos/RLmPNcYfzq5Lf5Ah6 . As you can see, there's a blue rubbery case around my hard drive, but pulling on it from either side doesn't seem to budge the hard drive, and I didn't want to apply maximum force in case the bay broke. The manual says to start with unplugging the cable from the hard drive, but I can't seem to unplug it do to the lack of space. Hello,I purchased an HP Envy Laptop my first year of College, and it has served me well to a point.But recently, I noticed that there was some separation happening in the body of the laptop, just next to the right hinge area. The "metal" and plastic pieces of the casing were pulling apart from each other. This began to cause problems with my disk drive as well, I believe. It became more concerning when it began happening on the right side as well, and likely caused problems with the fan.At this point, the left side of the casing, right by the vent snaps out and back into place whenever I open my laptop. As this is a problem that could be getting worse virtually every time I use the computer, it makes it stressful to enjoy my HP device. If this continues, more problems will undoubtedly arise.I need a solution to this, lest my HP experience be ruined.Thank you for your time. I do appreciate and respect it.

Last year while my daughter was at school she started reporting to me that her HP Envy Touchsmart 15" laptop's case was pulling apart at the corners.  Then she started reporting hearing rattling noises inside the case, then the fan stopped working.   I called HP support, and was told by one person the laptop was under warranty, but that wouldn't be covered because of normal wear and tear.  I called back later and then was told the laptop was not under warranty.  I called back several times, and got a variety of answers all of which added up to between $300 and $500 for repairs on a laptop that I spent $700 on! When she came home for a break from school, I took apart the laptop and removed the debries from the fan (I had purchased a replacement fan which I didn't need) and the laptop stopped overheating.  Next I tackled the hinge problem which by this time had progressed to be both hinges.  The weak plastic connections on the bottom were in bad shape, cracked and peices missing.  So (being the brain surgeon I am ) I decided to use epoxy to more firmly affix the hinges to the case.  That fix has now failed. I have seen and posted on other threads that this type of failure is (despite what HP support says) fairly common in the whole line of HP consumer grade laptops!  Before this, I had mainly used HP business grade laptops and had thought that the quality there would also be in the consumer grade laptops.  My... The computer was stuck on the HP screen and I ran a test and the hard drive failed. I bought a new hard drive and was about to start recovery but decided to power off and reboot before starting the process. I now have a blank display. The lights are all okay, fan is running and    no beeps for errors.  Does anyone have any idea how to get the display to start working? I tried all types of keystrokes but nothing seems to work.  Going to give it one more try before I send this computer to the junk yard.  Thanks

Hello,  This is my first time on this site and I have been having some trouble with my computer.FIrst of all, my computer is the HP Envy 23 Touchsmart PC and its roughly around 3-4 years old. For all this time, it has been working fine without any problems, but one day I was playing a game on my computer and it randomly shut down. At first, I thought I accidentally kicked a cord, so I made sure every cord was in their sockets tightly. Thinking it was a loose cord that caused it to shut down, I tried to turn it on again. Unfortunately, there was no luck.   In furthur investigation on my computer, I noticed my power cord was making a small beeping/chirping noise every 2-3 seconds with its green light flashing on and off in sync with the green light. What I found interesting was when I unplugged the power cord from the computer, the green light would actually stay solid without it blinking or making any noise. When i replug it back in, it continues to blink and make the small beeping noise again. As a computer amateur, I am afraid to open my computer up and try to fix the problem myself. And I was also hoping for some solutions here on this site before bringing it into a store to get it fixed.  I also updated my computer to Windows 10 if any of that matters. Thank you for your time!

I've had this problem off an on for probably about a year now. Randomly my clickpad (I think that's what it's called...the mouse on my laptop) stops working. Either the cursor will freeze and disappear when I touch the screen or it just doesn't appear when I open my laptop. I found a fix once that said to just go into the Device Manager and either update or rollback the driver and that worked the first time....but doesn't seem to be the answer as it continues to happen. Luckily I have the touchscreen or I'd be really annoyed but its tough to do work with just the touchscreen. Can anyone help me keep the cursor/clickpad working?

When I update/roll back the driver I go to:
Device Manager > System Devices > Synaptics SMBus > Properties > Driver

Let me know any other info you need!

Hello HP Buddies, I have an HP Envy Touchsmart laptop model M7-J178CA  / Product: E8A17UA#ABL and it works fine in stock form. I installed a brand new Samsung 840 EVO 1TB SSD using the correct adapter kit Part number: 720237-001 Part description: HDD Hardware Kit http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=542 and I have the following concerns: 1) Windows disk management does not recognize the SSD, nor does the latest version of Samsung Magician.  I think I need to enable ACHI mode (or the equivalent) but I am not sure how to do this as there does not seem to be anything in the BIOS to allow this. 2) I ordered a USB to SATA adapter (not here yet!) Can't I enable the SSD from the HDD Hardware Kit SATA cable / connector? I know there can be problems enabling an SSD via an external HD USB case, so I did not try that. 3) I want to clone the Samsung 840 EVO 1TB SSD to the original HP 1TB hybrid drive, is it true you can't clone the Windows drive while in use? 4) I have a bunch of other PC's (some with Acronis True Image) and some external HD USB cases.  Can I clone the Samsung 840 EVO 1TB SSD to the original HP 1TB hybrid drive, by putting the SSD in one external HD USB case and the original HP 1TB hybrid drive in another external HD USB case and use Acronis True Image? 5) I thought Samsung Magician can clone boot drives similarly to Acronis True Image, no? 6) Does my HP Envy Touchsmart lapto...  Does anyone know what this part is?  I'd really like to know its part number because I'm trying to order a replacement.  It has the power button on one side, and on the internal side it has screw-ins for the fan and one of the speakers.  It is a black plastic part that runs along the side that the fan blows out and flattens out on both sides.  It was glued to the metal case.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

I have a HP ENVY notebook of model TouchSmart 15-j127tx.Using the laptop causes eye fatigue after 15 minutes itself.The White color background is the main cause and I experience eye fatigue  even after trying many combinations of  brightness and contrast. I have adjusted the gamma settings to different levels and even used the Display Colour Calibration within Win 10 to improve the display,but the result is same. At first, I thought only I have this problem, but over the time, people whoever uses my notebook complain the same. I use a different  brand laptop for work, which does not have a touch display. I work on that laptop for more than 10 hours a day but don't feel eye fatigue. But when I use this HP laptop, always, I feel the strain on my eyes. Can anyone help on this. Thanks.

My Envy 23 TouchSmart All-in-One PC asked to update the firmware the other day, so I said yes.  It seemed like the update never fully downloaded or completed.  Now, when I try to turn on the computer, it comes up with the following error " Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart."  It then goes into a HP logo screen and says " Preparing Automatic Repair", then "Diagnosing your PC", then Blue screen with "Automatic Repair" header "Your PC did not start correctly.  Press "restart" to restart your PC, which can sometimes fix the problem.  You can also press "Advanced options" to try other options to repair your PC." I had a restore USB drive made when I bought the computer 3 years ago, but it doesn't seem to help. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi there, The Wifi on this laptop keeps either dropping connection, or changing to a "limited" network. Sometimes it works fine, but more often than not it drops out. All other wifi enabled devices in my house work fine, so I know it's not the internet. I purchased an HP Envy Touchsmart 23". It was used little over the three years. Last week, when starting up it started to display the message reading "Critical error/your start menu isn't working. We'll try to fix it next time you sign in". After several attempts of power off and restart, hoping the fix would happen, my HP simply stopped responding to the power on switch. The power on switch would light up indicating that the power was on, but the screen would not light up or indicate activity. Best Buy, where I purchased the computer, could not assess the problem locally - they could only arrange to send it to somewhere in BC, for an assessment that would take 2 to 6 weeks. Can anyone help?

Hello,  I purchased an HP Envy Touchsmart 15 a little over a year ago. The hinge seems to have come unglued fromt the inside. I read that the HP Envy is prone to this, since the hinge is glued in production as opposed to being fastened with a screw. I'm a graduate student, and I'm unable to use my HP for schoolwork due to the faulty hinge. The computer has been handled carefully, and it's never been dropped. This is my first HP. It was great when it was working; however, a laptop that costs nearly a grand and works only for 1 year due to the construction is extremelhy dissapointing.  I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how it was handled by HP. Hello!I bought my computer about 11 months ago for college and the past month it has been having some weird cracking noises when opening/closing the lid. A friend of mine told me to watch out since he had the same computer and it had broken off. I noticed today that theroght hinge is actually starting to come out and the base of the computer is also getting loose. This is very strange since I barely move my computer from the desk since it is so big, plus I have a smaller one that I use to take to classes so I don't mess with this one for stuff that is unnecessary. They agree the computer has been well cared for and should not have failed after only two years of use. What recourse does HP offer to resolve this problem? Bought Envy in December 2014.  At about 19 months I noticed the hinge was not working right and I found a small screw which fell out.  The hinge has gotten worse over the last month or so even though I  have been careful with it. I am the only user.  I saw many other posts about hinge problems on the envy.  Is Hp doing anything about this problem?  I believe its only a one year warrenty.  Am I SOL because of this?

I have a HP Envy Touchsmart 17 notebook product number E1P14AV model 17t-j100.I'm trying to restore to factory using USB but keep getting restore incomplete. I have tried every method from HP recovery method and all three give the same response. It goes through everything and reloads software but then gives that response. If i click try again it tells me to insert recovery media.

Try changing the date in BIOS to 1/01/2012. Save & Exit. Boot from Recovery and let it run through the process- but on the first reboot it initiates enter BIOS to ensure date is still modified. If so let Recovery resume-if not change it again then resume.

Recently the touch screen on my HP ENVY/Touchsmart hasn't been working. When I bought the computer Windows 8 was installed; I converted to Windows 10 and for about a year the touchscreen was working fine. I also noticed that when I go to HUMAN  INTERFACE Devices in device manager, no touchscreen program appears. Hello there. So I have an HP Envy TouchSmart m6-ko22dx Sleekbook and it refuses to turn on. The white LED on the side is on which usually signifies it is charged, however, whenever I hit the power button, it starts for maybe a half of a second and then turns off again. Apparently tons of users are having issues with the Intel HD Graphics 4600 driver for all sorts of devices. I'm wondering why there's always an updated driver for Nvidia when my product doesn't even have it? The 4600 driver from both here and Intel both crash, and sometimes I get multiple crashes in sequence. Is there something I'm missing?

Hello HP forum I need HP ENVY TouchSmart m6-k025dx Touchscreen drivers please. Touchscreen no longer working. Device Manager shows HID Compliant Touch Screen says its working properly but its not. The driver is the old 6/21/2006 6.3.9600.18341 Microsoft that's not working. I've downloaded & install from HP the updated Chipset & Graphics drivers to no avail. Hi HP Team, This is the second time that my hinge has malfunctioned. My HP Envy was sent in for repair a year ago under warranty, and now warranty is up and the same problem has occured. I notice many people have had problems like this with similar models. I'd like to know whether I'd need to pay to have it fixed again, despite it being the same problem that was supposed to be fixed. I have the order confirmations of the previous repair and can send that if needed. It is unacceptable to me to have such a fault laptop, considering how much importance it has for my school work. Hello,  I have noticed that my right screw connecting the hinge of my screen and base of the laptop has come loose after a while now. I tried to tighten it but it won't. I read a few articles with people of the same laptop series and it made me think that whether this is a manufacturer's defect or not.  There is also a piece which, by my guess, has broken off and is now loose inside the body of the keyboard as I can hear it when I move my laptop around.  Is there a way to get this repaired at a repair centre? Or a better and more precise diagnostic, as I am just basing this on what I have read and my guess as an engineer. Thank you!

I do a lot of highlight copy-paste operations.  Is there a good summary of how to do these with this notebook?  They designed the touchpad without the right/left mouse buttons and do not seem to have something that functions like left click to hold so you can move and highlight. If I do not happen to have my wireless mouse, doing the basic operations get interesting. Word and Excel:  No swipes to highlight blocks.  You seem to have to use the shift and arrow keys to highlight and then keyboard ctrl-c,x,v Web documents.  touch the screen to highlight a word,then find the little anchor and move it to highlight the block you want.  Then either keyboard shortcuts or if you tap the touchpad with two fingers you may get the left-click menu or you may remove your highlighted blocks. Are there simpler, less complex ways to handle something that you can do easily with a mouse?  Or do I need to make sure the mouse is tethered to the notebook?
