HP envy beastaudio laptop STOPPED connecting to wireless net...

Q: HP envy beastaudio laptop STOPPED connecting to wireless net...

Ok, I only use a 'hotspot' device from T-Mobile and have had zero problems.I also connect to my boyfriends Wifi and my work's wifi on occassion. And it has 'stopped' finding/connection to those networks. I even tried my 'cell phone' as a hotspot too, which had worked in the past to no avail. My laptop IS NOT on Airplane mode. My 10 yr son has his own account and plays games via their schools portal and I'm thinking he may have hit a combination of keys that diabled my wifi... I am not seeing any type of ((0)) function key that could be easily pressed I'm reading all types of posts and I'm just not finding a fix..... ANY ONE????

My new laptop came on Wednesday, the 9th. It was immediately able to connect to my wireless network I had recently established. (I also have a desktop connected to the same network.) Anyhow, today, Sunday the 13th my laptop connected as usual but when visitors arrived I pushed the on button to turn it off - I know better but wasn't thinking at the time. After the visitors left I came back to my laptop, turned it on and it will no longer connect to the wireless network! I troubleshooted all I could and the only way I could get on the internet with the laptop was to use an ethernet cable - even then it was hard but can be accomplished. But it is a laptop and I don't want to leave it in one place all the time! I have access to Costco's Concierge Service and phoned them. He had me do everything in the book so to speak for more than an hour and it remains the same - no wireless connection!
I am wondering if my turning it off the wrong way could cause this trouble? I have never worked with laptops before but used many desktops and, even though it is not recommended, turning them off using the on button in a pinch has never effected my computers in any way.
Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

The laptop specs: Dell Inspiron 17R with Intel Core i5-2450M 2.5 GHTz, 8 GB Ram. and a lot of other stuff!

A:New Laptop stopped connecting to wireless network

I do not know if turning it off that way was the cause of your connectivity issues, but as new as the computer is, you might want to consider restoring the operating system to the factory condition. Does it have a recovery partition on the hard drive?

Hello,  I have faced a boot/power issue, and have not found one answer to the required question. Thus After solving I came here to share my experience. I have ran into a problem where a connected usb device caused malfunction and my HP Envy dropped dead. Bascially i connected a phone via a faulty usb cable, put it to sleep and turned on the usb power supply to charge the phone while the computer was inactive. PC was on sleep mode through the night and the next morning I wanted to boot it up, but no signs of life. The laptop had the power button blinking and charging LED light, but all else was not working. I removed the battery just to face a total dead stop from the pc. Only charger light working, nothing else, no power no boot no fan spinning. I read numerous threads about a hard reset, removed my battery, removed the charger, held the power button for 45 seconds, 1 minute, 3 minutes, but nothing worked. My laptop does NOT have a beats button, which could make it stuck, therefore I did not have anything else to do.  SOLUTION: The HP Envy 15t j-series 2013 laptops have an inbuilt backup small battery. You have to open up the bottom of the laptop, remove the main battery, removed the RAM chips, remove the battery (small circle one, like a big hand watch battery, then put everything back together and the laptop boots back up with no problem.  Hope this works and solves some problems with you guys as well. First off....the lap is running ME....the router is a Gnet IP104G Broadband Router with a card ...the connection is Cable.

As I do near or at the end of every month...I run a scandisk and defragg and usually her comp runs nice.

Well yesterday I did what I usually do and for some reason now it cant connect to the net.

Previously when things were running well...I did a copy and paste of all the screenshot settings and compared and it seems everything should work BUT it won't. Usually when it doesn't connect we just pull the power to the router, replug et voila...it works!

I know this wireless stuff isnt an exact science but "what now?" Any ideas?

I'm running Windows 2003 XT operating system and have had very few problems. But now my wlan connection doesn't seem to be working or works intermittenly. I have a Sony Vaio 2006 laptop.

It usually connects to my home wireless and my verizon mobile modem but in the last week nothing. Is there something I can do to get my wireless working again?

A:My wireless connection has just stopped connecting. what to do?

You can try and determine the device Brand and Model via Device Manager or downloading Everest Free Edition from: http://majorgeeks.com/download4181.html and then search for a driver for it. Download the driver and then from within Device Manager delete the current driver.

Reboot your system to allow everything to be cleaned up after the uninstall (sometimes this is required and sometimes not). Re-Install the driver with the software you downloaded earlier and see if that solves the issue. Otherwise there is the potential that your device is actually failing.

are you saying that IE does not open or it does not connect to a web page ?

how do you normally connect by wireless or cable to the router ?

can we see the following
------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:

I installed the Belkin wireless G + MIMO modem router without a hitch and it connected to the internet easily for about a day, then suddenly in the evening the connection got really slow and by the next day there was absolutely no connection at all. Anyone know what to do?

Well, this isn't necessarily a request for help, but more of a forum to help anyone with similar issues resolve a problem.

I consider myself well above the average person for tech abilities -- however, I typically don't delve into the 'config' stuff on my computer (mainly because I know that I can really screw something up). With that said, here is what I had happen.

My Dell Inspiron D630 running Win XP SP3 suddenly stopped connecting to my home wireless network. It would connect at work (via wired connection), but just couldn't seem to find an IP address at my house. I tried multiple times, rebooted the modem, rebooted the computer, but to no avail.

Today I tried going in to do ipconfig /renew, hoping that would try to get an IP again. Didn't work. When I used that I got a "The RPC Server is unavailable" error. I started Googling to find an answer and came across this thread: http://forums.techguy.org/networking/736702-solved-rpc-server-unavailable.html?503retry=1

In this, the guy said that he went in and had to start a service because it hadn't started automatically. I happen to know that one of the items in the networking section deals with DCHP. When I went into Start--> Control Panel --> Administrative Tools (as directed in the above thread), I noticed that the DCHP service was not running. Since I knew that DCHP was related to the IP/networking info, I started that service and my computer connected to the wireless ... Read more

Recently, after a few hours my laptop suddently loses connection to the router and from then it keeps connecting and loosing the connection for a few hours. Sometimes it connects successfuly .
This happens while my other pc, connected by cable to the router, works perfectly. The next day i open the laptop the internet works fine.
I noticed ,when i had another router, that the laptop often had problems connecting to it while my pc was working. It would connect a lot slower after i would reset the router.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate installed on both.
Could it be the laptop?

*Also
Windows troubleshooter says it is the router's problem while the yahoo messenger troubleshooter says it is Http Connection problem.

A:My laptop stopped connecting to the router

Does the laptop experience the same problems when connected by ethernet?

Make sure you have the latest wireless driver. If an integrated adapter get the driver from the laptop manufacturer's web site. If an external adapter get the driver from the adapter manufacturer's web site. In either case if you already have the latest correct driver reinstall it anyhow in case the installed instance is corrupted.

When you are experiencing the trouble ...

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Also show ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

My HP laptop running XP has worked fine for the last 6 months connecting to a BT Voyager 2110 as have the others in the family. When I restarted after a windows update it wouldn't connect. Its always started automatically before. I clicked on the wireless adapter icon and clicked to reconnect on my voyager connection. A tab appeared prompting me to name the connection (the name workgroup was there by default. I pressed okay entered the key. Now it won't connect, can only find a wireless connection called workgroup with a very low signal. It shows this connection even with the modem turned off. Cant remember what I did after that. Tried comparing the laptops setting with my son's identical machine, got confused and now have 2 laptops that won't connect. My wife's laptop can only find our voyager modem no connection called workgroup and works fine.
Sorry to be so long winded, don't know what I've messed up and not a clue what to do.

Really, I don't know where to begin. I'm sure you get things like this all the time from know-nothing novices like myself, and I would appreciate any help.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L55 laptop running Windows 8. It is just about exactly one year old; I purchased it in November 2013.

The problem started a couple months ago; I do not know the precise date.

I use Firefox as my browser of choice. Every time Firefox ran its automatic update, the problem would begin. It would open displaying the Firefox homepage, but if, for example, I wanted to go to Google, I would type the address and instead of going to Google it would display "Waiting for google.com" with a spinning icon. It would keep displaying this message without ever actually going to Google until eventually giving up and returning to the Firefox homepage and acting like everything is fine.

Also, the wireless signal strength icon in the lower right will tell me I have full bars no matter what. I know it is lying to me, because when everything is functioning properly I never have more than 4 bars when in my bedroom.

What's really bizarre is that when this problem happens, Internet Explorer displays the exact same symptoms. "Waiting" without ever actually getting anywhere. Even though the Firefox update seems to be the trigger.

Usually, I could resolve the problem by rebooting (again and again) until the problem went away. And everything would be fine until the next time Firefox automatically upda... Read more

Had an issue after AVG tuneup, which I'm not sure how it downloaded could not be removed. I started to delete small segments of it, See many people have this issue.

Drivers indicate they are running normally, and I'm worn out looking for more info.

Everything's been fine since August of 2009, but now suddenly none of my wireless computers can connect to my router. They generally see the network, but they are unable to connect. the repair function does not fix the problem.

Router is Linksys WRT54GS
Computers that can't connect to network wirelessly are running current version of XP

The router is out of Warranty. On the phone, Linksys tech support mainly just tries to hard-sell me a Wireless N-draft. If the problem is with the router, I'll replace it with a true Wireless-N of some kind.

But can I first get some help in diagnosing my problem? I feel VERY STUPID when it comes to this networking stuff. Any help would be MUCH APPRECIATED.

I checked router settings using the Linksys software:

Under BASIC SETUP I see
Automatic Configuration - DHCP
Router Name AL-ROUTER1
MTU: Auto
Size: 1500
Local IP Address: 152.168.1.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
DHCP Server: Enable
Starting IP Address: 192.168.1.100

Under BASIC WIRELESS SETTINGS I see:
Wireless Network Mode: Mixed
Wireless Network Name (SSID): al-linksys-1
Channel: 11
Wireless SSID Broadcast: Enable

Under WIRELESS SECURITY I see:
WPA Personal
WPA Algorithms: TKIP
WPA Shared Key: a 10-digit number I know well
Group Key Renewal: 3600 seconds

On one computer's wireless network properties (I'm sure they all are set up the same way):
Wireless Network Name: al-linksys-1

I have Toshiba Satellite P55-a5312 with Windows 8(64 bit) since 2013, then upgraded to 8.1 in 2014. Afterwards I installed Norton antivirus earlier this year and everything was working fine. About 1 week and half ago, I upgraded to Windows 10. Two days ago, my laptop suddenly was disconnected from wifi. When I opened the network and internet window in control panel, the laptop no longer detects the home router but can still detect other routers in the neighborhood. We have multiple devices in the home, i.e. phone, laptops, etc. They all can detect and connect to the home router except for my laptop.

I had tried the following;
Rebooted the laptop
Command prompt ipconfig/release and renew
Disabled/enabled the wireless adapter(Intel N7260)
Uninstalled/installed the wireless adapter(Intel N7260)
Attempted to upgrade driver but there is no driver to update (I haven't yet attempted to find a driver from
the Toshiba website)
Reset the router
Restored to a previous point to the last time the laptop was connected to wifi
Stopped and restarted the WLAN Autoconfig in Task Manager; its set to Automatic

I it possible it might be a security suite issue or driver issue or windows 10?

A:My Toshiba laptop stopped connecting to wifi

Uninstall Norton and run Symantec's Removal Tool. You can reinstall it after testing.

Make sure you have the latest wireless driver from Toshiba's web site. If that one does not help try the one directly from Intel's site.

My Toshiba laptop has been connected wirelessly to my Comcast router without issue until earlier today when I noticed that most websites timed out and couldn't be accessed. I can go to Facebook, Google, and YouTube, but can't access my Hotmail account or other sites I use on a regular basis. I've tried everything I could find on the Internet, including flushing my DNS settings, changing them, scanning for malware, uninstalling McAfee, etc. and the only thing that has gotten me back on track is connecting directly to the Internet with an Ethernet cable, which is what I'm using now.

The only thing I can think of that's different is that I upgraded to Windows 10 a couple days ago. Otherwise, nothing has changed. Can someone please help me diagnose this annoying problem?

Hi

My laptop has recently stopped connecting to my wireless network. There is nothing wrong with the router as all my other wifi devices still work on the network (xbox 360, flatmates laptop etc.) so I assume its something to do with my laptop.

I have tried restarting the router and it hasnt helped, neither have any of the windows tools. I have run ipconfig/all while the the connection was down and will post the report at the end of this post (I am currently connected to the internet with an ethernet cable).

I have checked that all my drivers are up to date and they are so I dont think that is the problem either. I have tried removing the encryption from my network and connecting and have still had no luck.

I am running Windows 7.

I have a Linksys router setup with several devices connected to it through both wired and wireless connections. Recently one of my laptops running windows 7 stopped connecting to it. The network shows up in the list of available networks but when I try to connect to it I get the unable to connect message. All of the other laptops are working perfectly. The following is a list of things I tried to fix the problem:
1. power cycled the router
2. completely reset the router i.e. different ssid, different encryption and no encryption
3. deleted the network profile and tried to connect
4. tried connecting the laptop to other networks and was able to connect to them
5. updated drivers on the broadcom 4313 802.11 adapter
6. ran the extremely useless windows network trouble shoot, it said that i needed to disconnect and then reconnect the power to the router

My XP laptop suddenly stopped being able to connect to the internet at a friend's house, either wirelessly or plugged directly into the cable modem. Before that it connected wirelessy just fine for several days.

Nor can it find any wireless networks at all though there are a few nearby (neighbors' apartments etc - which I wouldn't be able to log into, not having the passwords, but still they should show up in list of available networks).

But it still connects just fine at my own house, both wireless or plugged in directly. And, as usual, I see a list of several available wireless networks.

At the friend's house, I tried restarting the computer, unplugging and restarting the router, including waiting 24 hours.

No changes of any kind were made to the computer (such as network connection settings, installing hardware, clicking on suspicious websites or emails etc.)

This is especially perplexing for many reasons:

1) How could I get online just fine at the friend's house, then suddenly not be able to?

2) If it was a glitch between my computer and her ISP, then why doesn't my computer show any available wireless networks at all?

3) How can such a problem only happen at her house but not mine?

Thanks much.. this one has me stumped

This is a problem i had after i reinstalled windows vista on my laptop.

I recently reinstalled windows vista onto a laptop. The laptop is unable to find the router. I checked the drivers, and i am not sure if im missing any. There is a yellow mark on my network controller, but there is no description or details for it. The internet works while connected to an etherent cable directly to my router. I went to the manufacture website (dell), and downloaded/updated the drivers. I ran PC diagnostics and the wireless still doesn't work. The wireless switch is on. How would i resolve this issue?

Through windows network diagnostic: Message--This computer does not have a wireless network adapter installed or configured.

I do not know how to install it. I did not see it anywhere on the manufacture website.

My laptop is working fine now except that I can not connect to the internet. The laptop s not even searching for the wireless.

Is there something I need to install?

Thanks

Craig

A:Laptop not connecting to wireless

You will most likely find that the driver for the networking devices will need reinstalling. To do this type in google or something "the make model of the machine, when you gets results search then for the driver which should appear on a list for various operating systems. When you have found it, simply reinstall it, update it then all should be ok, remembe as well if the system has a wireless switch that needs to be on.

Hi folks,

I have an HP ProBook 6560b that I'm working on for a friend and the issue is the wireless is not working.

Here are some of the things I'm seeing:

- When I open the task bar wireless icon I see "No connections are available". If I try the Troubleshoot option I get, "An unexpected error has occurred. The troubleshooting wizard can't continue.

Error Details:
Package ID: Unknown
Path: C:\windows\diagnostics\system\networking
Error Code: 0x8007045A
Source: Command Line
User:Joe-HP\Joe
Context: Restricted

I have confirmed that the Wireless Button on the laptop is on and enabled.

If I go into HP Connection Manager, I see:
Wi-Fi (Wireless LAN) - Disabled by Mobility Center

If I go into Mobility Center, I don't see any of the Wireless or Wifi Tiles.I have tried running as Administrator, nothing.

The Wifi Adapter is a Broadcom 43224AGN 802.11a/b/g/n 2x2 Wi-Fi Adapter.

I've gone into Device Manager and uninstalled the Wireless Card. I went to HP's site and got the drivers and reinstalled them just fine, there were no errors. The Device Manager says the Wireless Card is working properly and the best drivers are already installed. I've checked the Advanced Tab for properties relating to a Sleep Mode but I don't see anything like that.

The owner admitted that the laptop was dropped and there is a nice crack in the plastic on the bottom of the laptop. My only other thought is the card is cracked or something.

I have a Dell Insprion 1501, Windows XP, SP2

My wireless router is a Netgear 54Mbps Wireless Router WGR614 v6

The laptop, which connected to the wireless router two or so weeks ago, is now no longer connecting. I am unable to get onto the internet or ping the default gateway. I can do a loop back ping to 127.0.0.1

There is a computer with an ethernet connection plugged into the router and that computer is able to get onto the internet.

I am able to connect to the router configuration and administration via the gateway IP (the //192.168.1.1))

The router is set to broadcast the SSID

If I plug the ethernet cable from the router into the laptop, it gets an IP address and connects fine.

I have a second laptop that sees the Wireless network, but cannot connect to it.

Is the wireless router hosed or are there additional troubleshooting steps I can try?

(I cannot paste the ping information because I do not have access to a blank CD or a USB drive and the laptop(s) have no floppy disk drives. One laptop belongs to my parents, the other is my work laptop, and my parents are not technical people and do not have on hand things like floppy drives, USB drives or blank CDs)

A:Laptop not connecting to wireless

Here are some of the basic things that we suggest just to get a clearer picture of your environment.
Firstly, disable all firewalls and encryption if you have it enabled. This can tell us if they are interfering with your connection.
On the wired pc give us an ipconfig /all.
This will further define your environment.

Have you tried to reset your router to it's default config and downloaded any firmware updates that may be available for your route any error msgs while trying to connect.

Is this a cable or DSL connection.

I have a wireless network at home but my laptop does not connect to it. The network works as my iPhone connects to it az well as my PS3. The laptop finds the network and has full bars for connectivity but it is only on a local network. I don't have a P.C in the home, the only time I can go online is when the laptop is plugged in. My laptop operates with vista.

Sorry guys.
This is probably really basic stuff but it is driving me nuts,

When I turn on my laptop it boots up fine.

Problem I have is when I try to connect to the net.

It's an old IBM T40 if that makes a difference. I'm using a DLink Air DWL-650.
When I log on everything looks fine - appropriate icons in the taskbar.
However, before I can connect to any site, I have to right click and press repair.

I know this must be something really easy to sort but I could do with a wee bit help.

PS This even happens in house when I'm fully connected to my PC.

plug your internet connection into the WAN port on the router and connect the wired computers to the other CAT5 ports on the wireless router. then of course your wireless boxes will connect via no cables... your hardware is configured.

for the question about setting up the network do the following...

Doubleclick on your my network places icon. and on the right side panel click on network setup wizard. follow this on all computers.

Hello,
I have just moved to a new flat and I'm having trouble connecting to the internet through my wifi. I received a new router from my ISP and it works fine for my iPhone and iPad, and I can connect to the router via wifi, but the internet is slow at best and non-existent at worst. It does, however, work when I plug in the ethernet cable. I've renistalled the drivers for my wireless card and updated them from the manufacturer's website. I've also run a virus scan, spybot, and ccleaner, all to no avail. Any help with this would be very much appreciated. I've copy/pasted the ipconfig readout below. I would say I'm beginner/intermediate on IT matters. Thanks again in advance.

Hi all

I got an Aspire one laptop loaded with XP and when i tried to connect to the wireless it was showing errors such as "validating connectivity" , no or limited connectivity etc. so i thought there may be an issue with drivers or the s/w itself and when i checked the deivice manager there were lot of yellow signal and hence i I reinstalled Win XP and now there are no problems in the device manager. The wireless network is visible so i guess the drivers and the hardware is working fine.

I know its some setting error that iam making but not sure where....iam running a wpa 2 encryption wireless on Belkin G wireless. I couldnt find wpa 2 in my xp laptop wireless settings so i chose all the options one by one but none are working. The password is the same for the wireless since i set up and i havent changed it ever.

my other laptop on win 7 ultimate doesnt have any problem as it discovered the wireless and asked for the password only the first time and now connects everytime i switch it on.

I have in the netwrok options open, shared, wpa, wpa psk options and AES & TKIP as network authetication.

Iam just fed up....have been trying differnt things for the last one week and tried out many things available on the net but nothing is working...hope i get an answer.

It would be great if some one can help me get the laptop to connect to the wireless network
Many Thanks

I have two dell laptops and one desktop. Desktop is connected to router through cable from the router. Both laptops were set up to use the wireless network. I have Netgear MR814 router. Both were working ok. But now, one laptop does not connect to the wireless. It detects the network with good signal strength but when I click connect it pops up the message "Windows unable to detect the selected network. Network may be out of range".
This laptop had a virus, so the data got backed up and the XP operating system got reinstalled by a computer service person. After that it stopped connecting to wireless. It works when I connect it through the cable. Also any other laptop gets connected.

As per suggestions in this forum, I reset the router to factory defaults and added WPA encryption with a password, and it still did not work. Other laptops are still working.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

Finally below the network adapter there is 'other devices' > unknown devices with a yellow exclamation mark. Please help

A:Laptop not connecting to wireless network

Hi: There can be one of several different wireless network adapters installed in your PC. Please post the hardware ID for the network controller. To find the hardware ID, go to the device manager and click on the Network Controller needing drivers. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the Network Controller window. Now you will see a Property drop down list and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list and select the 2nd item (hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window. Also do the same for the unknown device (s), as there are a few devices that can be labled that way.

Ok, so I have an IBM Thinkpad laptop.
Today, I bought a Linksys Wireless card for my laptop, so that I may access the internet from my laptop, well, wirelessly.

So, I installed the Programs, and put the card in.

However, The card cannot connect to the internet.

I have a 2Wire Modem.

Now, For my Nintendo Wii, and Nintendo DS, I just needed the WEP key, and to manually enter my information. I was then able to easily connect.
However, Even when I try that, it doesn't help, and simply tells me that I can connect to the modem, but not the internet.
Basically, It goes like this.
First, It searches for SSIDs, when I see mine, I connect.

Then, It asks me for a passphrase, and a WEP key.
[I know the WEP key, but haven't a clue what the Passphrase is.]

I leave the passphrase blank, and enter the WEP key, but it gives me the same message when I click Connect. (I can connect to the modem, but not the internet. )
So, I am asking,

What. Do. I. Do?

I would really appreaciate some help, anything that could possible give me an answer and allow me to connect.

A:Problem Connecting wireless to laptop...

Hi Leeanne. . .

Are you sure that your parents router is emitting a wireless signal? Is there another computer to test that wireless connection? Are you near the router - is anything blocking your line of sight from your laptop to the router?

I would also suggest that you take your laptop around the neighborhood or to a McDonald's or somewhere that you know a wireless signal is available and see if you can pickup a signal and attempt connecting to it.

Good Luck. . .

Could anyone offer any help or advice to connect my partner's laptop to my wireless network?

The router is a Sagem provided by my ISP (Sky). The wireless connection works fine on my MacBook, and various other devices connect no problem with the security key.

However, his laptop (Windows Vista) will not connect wirelessly. After entering the password, it says it can't connect because it 'times out' (we are obviously entering the password immediately with no delay). It connects fine with an ethernet cable. It will also connect to an unsecured wireless network we can pick up.

The security setup is WPA-PSK with TKIP encryption, and we've made sure he is using these settings.

If it might be important, he has just moved here, and previously his laptop was connected to another Sky router with no problems.

Any help would be welcome - many thanks.

A:Connecting second laptop to wireless network

Make sure he has the latest wireless driver. If the adapter is integrated it should be from the laptop manufacturer's web site.

Make sure you are not locking him out with MAC Address Filtering on the router.

Disable encryption on the router and try to connect. Assuming success re-enable encryption and try to connect.

I bought new HP Pavilion 3128ca and when I followed the instructions for connecting to wireless it gives me an error that I need 13 characters in the password for the router - I have 12 in the password now and it works for everything else.

I also have a new HP printer CA 780 wireless and it gives back the same error when I try to connect it to the router.

How do I get by this?

Hello Phil6049, and welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

We need more info. I would guess by your own description that you have your wireless security set to WEP. This is to old for Windows Seven. You need to use WPA2-Personal (WPA2-PSK) wireless security to be compatible with your new devices.

Cheers!

My Sony laptop has stopped working

Wireless switch is on, but network diagnostics keep telling me to switch it on

During reboot the light goes on and then when fully booted it turns off

I have disabled and enabled the network adapter

I have checked the adapter and the driver is upto date and the system tells me it is working properly

Is there anything else I can check?

Many Thanks

A:Wireless has stopped working on laptop

Go to the Device Manager and uninstall the driver for the network adapter. Restart the laptop and Windows should reinstall the driver automatically. See if this clears up the problem. If not, it might have failed. You could try going to Add and Remove Programs (if XP) or Programs and Features (if Vista or W7) and uninstall the LAN driver if one is there and install a fresh driver from Sony.

If none of that works, consider getting a USB wireless adapter.

I was using the internet on my laptop and the conection went off for a few seconds. After that, I couldn't access the router anymore, not even by cable. So I tried, te basic turn it on and off and I could access it by cable, but the wireless is still not working on my laptop. I checked if the wireless board was properly configured and everything seems alright.
I think the problem is on the laptop because the wireless works on my phone and tablet!

I have a problem with my laptop, and like most problems I encounter with Windows I can't rest until they are fixed!

Anyways, I have a Dell studio laptop and up until recently my wireless internet was working fine. I started noticing this past week that I could not access the internet after booting up or after awakening from sleep mode (I also noticed that there is no little globe that appears on the internet icon in the icon bar when I fire this baby up). When I hover my mouse over the icon it says my network name BUT there is an "Unidentified... " in front of it which is not normal I believe. The thing is, I can solve this problem by unplugging the router's power and plugging it back in but that gets very annoying and doesn't really solve my problems, and my roomies might be doing work online or something. I can connect to the internet using an Ethernet cord but wireless is much more convenient...

My roommates laptops work fine with the router so I don't think the router is going bad. My laptop also works with the wireless on campus so I don't think my wireless card is going bad either.

So, if anyone has any ideas I'd be glad to try them because this is annoying!

PS - I think my apartment complex got a new cable internet service provider also because it is a lot faster and our channels changed on the TV and they sent out a flier saying they were changing sometime soon (I don't know if this messes anything up but it might).

Thanks for your help, in ad... Read more

Hello,

I've had my laptop for close to a year now and the wireless has been working fine, with "Excellent" connection every day. However, yesterday when I turned my laptop on it would not connect to the internet and was stuck on "Acquiring Network Address". The internet on this computer is still working fine so I researched how to solve this issue. I did just about everything recommended on the web and finally it seemed to work. However now, instead of it constantly telling me "Acquiring Network Address", it bounces between being connected, and not. It stays connected for a minute or so, then disconnects, repeats a few times then entirely disconnects.

As suggested in other posts around forums I've removed the network from the 'Preferred Networks' and re-added it, manually entering the details; network key, SSID. This changed nothing so I went to 'Internet Protocol Properties' and manually entered in the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and Preferred DNS Server. Once again no change and I'm stuck with no internet on my laptop.

If anyone has any suggestions that may help me that'd be greatly appreciated! I'm also not that great with computers so I will require a step by step guide for any offered help. Sorry for the inconvenience.
My OS is XP, any other information you may need to know please ask.
Thank You!

My laptop has just been reformatted with a clean image of XP Pro, I have had it connected wirelessly before, but I can't get it to connect now.

I use WPA-2 encription and I nomrally get prompted to enter that huge alpha numeric string.... but now ( or maybe it did before) it wants the PIN of the wireless router... then it it searches and comes back and then I can paste the KEY... I know this key is valid because I just used it last week to add my bluray ... even recopied it from the setp.... so I put it in and then the setup wizard starts trying to connect, looks like it makes about 3 attempts then returns a fail message?

I also tried this with my wireless router setup page, and entered the PIN there at the same time

Router is a DLink DIR-615

Presuming that you are still using that and IT IS on xp
Go Control Panel network connections, and check that the LAN network connection is disabled.
If it is it will say disabled. If not right click and disabled the LAN connection. Then right click the wireless adaptor
and click Properties.. On the window that opens click the wireless network tab. Now look and see the networks listed in the small window. Using the Move up and Move down buttons to the right of that window, place the one you want to connect to at the top of the list - presuming that there is more than one listed. I'm using an ACER Aspire 5002LMi. The router I'm usimng is D-Link Di614+. Everytime I connect to the wireless network, it works for the first 20 or 30 minutes, then I become disconnected from the network. The only way I can fix it is restarting or disable then enable wireless connections. I did most of the things that should be correct. But for some reason it connects, the icon for wireless connection on taskbar is green, but when it's disconnected it has the red x on it. Thanks for helping.

A:Laptop Not Connecting To Wireless Network Correctly

This, as I have found out, is a common issue among people who live close to their neighbors. I don't know if this is the case with you, but more than likely someone is using your wireless and kicking you off. Try making the wireless secure. If you need help, you can contact D-Link and have them run you through it. If this doesn't work, it may be something else.

The netgear adapter software wizard keeps scanning so that when it is on channel 11 it gets a signal for a few moments, then continues to scan through other channels and lose the signal for a minute or two. Any ideas? PLEASE!!!

Hi everyone,

I have a Toshiba Satellite P755 laptop with windows 7. Recently, I had a repair done and it "forgot" the security code for the internet. It DID pick up the signal for the internet in my home but when I entered the password it still would not connect. I have confirmed that the password is still the same. I have a Dell laptop (on which I am typing), and this is still connecting to the wireless internet just fine.

I went away with my toshiba to a friend's house. There I was able to connect to their internet. After bringing my toshiba back, I have rebooted it and tried yet again to connect to the internet to no avail, yet it is still picking up the internet signal.

Does anyone have suggestions? I have already double-checked the password, rebooted my computer, turned the wireless receiver on my computer on and off. I do not have easy access to reboot the router, and I do not think it is a router problem, as my Dell gets the internet fine.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Canon MG4250 printer is connected via Wifi to my network (I can see it from the router's webpage). I have manually set the printer's IP address to 192.168.1.116

From my PC (connected to the network via ethernet cable) I can print to the printer just fine. I ran the canon driver install exe and it detects the printer from the PC but it will not detect it when running that from the laptop.

On the laptop I have disabled the firewall but it does not help.
From the laptop I cannot open the printer's webpage. I can ping the ip though (4 packets sent and received) although it does say reply from laptop IP: destination host unreachable.

The printer does not have any access restrictions.

Both PC and Laptop are Win 7 x64

Hi,

Having a weird problem. I'm trying to connect my XP laptop to a home wireless network and I keep getting the following error once I enter in the passcode provided by my ISP:

The network passcode needs to be 40bits or 104bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters.

I have an iphone, 3 ipads, one windows 7 pc and a mac connected to the network with no problems. The password provided by the ISP is 25 characters (letters and numbers). I would hate to have to change the password on all my devices for one Windows XP laptop. I've called Netgear who make the wireless router and they said the only solution was to change the password for all devices.

Are there any other solutions? Thanks!

Hi everyone..I am having a wireless issue on my laptop. I have had my connections in the two locations for months now. One network was recently upgraded to another router and the other network router was reset. I am at the location where the router was reset. My available networks are showing and are in excellent strength but whenever I hit "connect",nothing happens.I don't even get a prompt to enter the passcode. I even tried to connect at my local library's wifi with no such luck. When I run diagnostics it keeps saying "None of the networks you have previously connected to are in range"?? My drivers are up to date. I am a novice when it comes to computers so I really need help on this one. Just tell me what is needed in terms that I can understand (again, I am not that computer savvy, lol) and I will provide them. If it's of any help, I am running on a 32bit and my laptop is a HP. A:Windows 7 laptop not connecting to wireless networks

Hi DSEV, welcome to Seven Forums.
First, make sure your new router is set as per your ISP's settings.
Now,
Step 1. Close all applications that use the network — browsers, e-mail, chat, video, weather, and any other app
that might be automatically updated in the background.
Step 2. Click Start, type device manager in the Search box, then press Enter.
Step 3. Browse to the list of devices and click to expand the Network adapters section.
Step 4. Right-click on the first adapter under Network adapters and click Uninstall. Windows will ask whether you
want to remove the associated device drivers; say no, you want to keep the device driver. Repeat for all network
adapters on your system under Network adapters.
Step 5. Close Device Manager.
Step 6. Reboot.
When you reboot, Windows will think it’s found new networking hardware and will set up fresh connections. By
the end of the reboot, your Network should be back and running in streamlined, trouble-free form

Hi - hope you can help me. I have 4 computers - three macs and one dell laptop running windows XP professional on a unsecured wireless nework, speedstream modem, dlink -524 router. Until 2 weeks ago everything was fine. I had some connection problems 2 weeks ago and had to reset the password on the modem, which I did with help from my isp. I did not reset the password on my router, as I didn't have access to it at that time.

Since then, the three macs connect just fine, but I have been having problems connecting to the internet with my laptop. The network connects, but most times I cannot get to the internet. Occasionally I am able to connect, but then the connection drops again. The laptop can connect to the internet using other networks.

Reading through the posts on this form, I have run ipconfig/all and done the ping tests.I can ping the ip address, and the dns servers, but pinging 206.190.60.37 and yahoo.com gives me a timed out message. I haven't been able to find any posts which suggest tests for this result.

if anyone can give me some help would be much appreciated. I'm writing this in the morning, will not have access to the computer until this evening, but am willing to run any and all tests at that time. Thanks!

A:laptop connecting to wireless network but not internet

Do the symptoms change if you connect to a wired connection with that machine?

Let's see this using a wired connection to the router.

Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous IPCONFIG command output! Do NOT type <computer_IP_address> into the command, that won't work.

IPCONFIG /ALL

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING <dns_servers>

PING 206.190.60.37

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I have a Sony Vaio laptop (Windows XP) that has a wireless card built into it. I also have an HP Desktop (Windows Vista) that I used to go online with, plugging it directly into a modem. I no longer have the modem, however I am still able to go online with my laptop b/c I pick up a good connection from my neighbor.

So basically, I am wondering if there is any way I can plug my laptop into my desktop so the desktop picks up the connection.

I have already been looking into this for a couple days now, I found threads that were kind of helpful. Based on the threads, I have tried pluging an ethernet cat5e patch cable (is this the same as a crossover?) into both of the computers. I have messed around with network connections and changed the ip addresses all around. After hours and hours of doing this my ending result was this..............The Desktop's Local Area Connection said I was connected. However, when I tried going online I kept getting, "page could not be displayed". So I'm not sure if what I'm trying to do here is even possible or completely rediculous.

She's getting pretty fed up having to constantly put in the network key on the COBY, this should be a "set it once" and it should remember it should it not? I'm sure it used to, have I missed something?

It happened yesterday, i was in the dining room and moved laptop to living room and then internet stopped working. The wireless internet light on my laptop wasn't coming on and when i turned on the wireless internet capability via the laptop it still didn't work (usually it solves it). Then it worked for a few minutes throughout the day. I am currently connected straight to the modem with no problem. I think it may be my router. Also, when i try to connect to internet via my cellphone using the wifi in the house, the phone states no gateway reply. I've had my router for 3 years, its a linksys wrt54g. Is it time to get a new one? or is there a driver i can download to fix this? I called linksys but since im over my warranty they want to charge me to fix the problem. Thanks for any help.

Currently using Windows Vista on a Toshiba Satellite.

A:laptop connecting to wireless internet sparringly lately

The first thing I would do is to unplug the router and the modem for a few minutes and then reconnect the devices and try to reconnect. The other thing you may want to check is to see how far your wifi can cover the distance from your computer to where your router is. Your router may not work that far. In this case you would need to buy a router that will cover the distance. If this still doesn't work you could always reinstall the software for your router onto your computer and if this still doesn't work you could always buy a new one because they are pretty cheap. The tech support will cost you what a new router costs.

Could use an explanation please. Have a laptop running XP Home with D-Link wireless adaptor. Installed a Belkin wireless router and ethernet cabled it to a cable modem. Life is/was good as far as accessing internet. But, then I connected the router directly to the laptop with an eternet cable into the laptops ethernet port. COuldn't get on the internet!
Can the laptop only have one way to connect at a time, meaning either/or wireless adaptor or ethernet cable to router??
When connecting the router to laptop should the router's power cable be disconnected and the laptop turned off?
Also tried connecting the router to laptop using a USB/ethernet adaptor and oneof the laptop's USB ports. After idle time was unable to reconnect to internet until I ebooted the laptop. Sure would like to understand this connecting stuff better. Appreciate some help.

Hi

What I have is a doubt more than a problem. I seem to be able to connect to Xbox live with a regular ethernet cable through my PC just fine. However for some games opening the ports of xbox live makes a world of difference and there's where my problem begins.

I used to be able to connect my 360 to the router directly and I would get the IP from the 360 menu and forward the needed ports using that IP, but since I started connecting through the laptop I get an unusable IP for that matter.

Basically I'm supposed to be getting 192.168.1.xxx however the xbox is giving me 192.168.137.xxx which doesnt make sense since the IP the computer is getting is in the format of the former.

What I'm wondering is if I use a crossover ethernet cable will the 360 get the same IP(or one in the forma of my router 192.168.1.xxx) so I can open those ports or will I have to get it directly into the router again?

Thanks!

A few dys ago i bought a Linksys Cisco wireless router -N and i tried to connect several computers to that wireless network.

I choose a WEP encriptation with 10 digits;

My laptop with OS Vista Entreprise work perfectly; One other Laptop with OS: XP work perfectly, my PS3 works perfectly, even my nokia mobile can connect to that wireless network.

Yet, one of my Laptops with OS. XP Home, doesn't allow me to connect. It doesn't even ask me for the password, showing a error saying "'Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. Network may no longer be in range. Please refresh and try connect again".

Any help with this?

thks

Hi there,

I have a Toshiba Satellite M50, it recently came out of the box and is working fine.

I can connect to the internet via my Linksys WRT54G router if I use a cable but I am having problems trying to get it to connect wirelessly.

I called Toshiba and they asked me to check in my device manager for the wireless card but it's not there. According to them it should be in there but it's not.
They suggested I use the system recovery disk and return to factory settings but that seems a bit extreme and I have already moved a lot of stuff onto the laptop.

It comes with a bunch of pre-installed Toshiba tools called 'Toshiba Assist' and 'ConfigFree' which are of no help at all and just seem to confuse the matter.

I'm at a loss as to know where to even start to fix this. I don't know where to look to see if they maybe forgot to install a wireless card (The little switch and light work fine .. to switch on the wireless connection but nothing happens)

The icon beside the clock shows and if I mouse over it it says "Local Area Connection. A network cable is unplugged"

If I open 'Network Connections' there are 2 items in there
One is a '1394 Connection' and it says 'Connected, Firewalled 1394 Net Adapter'

The other says 'Local Area Connection' and it says 'Network Cable Unplugged, Firewalled Marvell Yukon 88E8036 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller'

To recap, I can connect to the int... Read more

Friend of the family asked me to take a look at their laptop. They seem to believe it has a virus and wasn't sure how to handle viruses. Upon taking a look at the laptop, I'm not so sure it's a virus (though it's possible). The laptop is running windows vista (I'm not hugely familiar with vista). I currently have it 'connected' to my wireless network and yet when I try to visit a webpage via IE or Firefox, it's telling me there is no internet connection. (I think the owner of the laptop uses dial up while I use cable so maybe it's a setting somewhere I'm missing?). I know it's not my network as I currently am using my desktop on the same network and it's fine and my aunt was just using her laptop without a problem and me on my ipod so it's not the wireless/router or modem. Using a jump drive, I ran 'clamwin' virus scan and it found nothing on the laptop.I have also tried running windows network diagnostics for problems and it's returning that it didn't find any problems with the computer's network connection. Despite all of this, it DID appear to download and install windows updates. I've turned off the firewall thinking maybe it was blocking the network but still was unable to connect. Wireless IS turned on. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.*Moderator Edit: Moved topic from Networking to explore the possibility of malware. ~ Queen-Evie*

A:Laptop recognizing a wireless connection but not connecting

Can you connect by wired atleast through the laptop by your home network? Check Control Panel - Internet Options - Connection tab - Remove any Virtual and Dial up settings (should be grayed out) and on LAN settings, make sure Automatically detect settings is the only option checkmarked. Hit Apply. Download MiniToolBox and select all options.A notepad will open then copy-paste the report on your next reply.

I did nothing to make it stop working. I was on the internet, stepped away, came back, and couldn't connect. I checked the online connection (by clicking the little icon in the bottom right part of the screen) and it came up with an error. I went to Device Manager, and there is a "!" next to LAN-Express IEEE 802.11 PCI Adapter. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, but the "!" is still there.

Did the actual hardware break somehow? Is there anything I should do before bringing it back to where I bought it? I've only had it for a few months, and never before had a problem

{WinXP, AcerTravelMate, Internet works when connected through ethernet cord.}

It may be just a matter of reinstalling the wireless driver. You can find this driver at the HP support site, under your laptops model number. Your laptop may be infected with a virus or other malware

Yesterday I was using my laptop, everything was working fine, I left it for a couple of hours whilst I went away to do something else, when I came back it was in Standby Mode, I powered on & I noticed that my wireless wasn't picking up my network, I tried multiple restarts, installing the device driver again & switching to switch on the side to no avail it just has a Orange light & does nothing.

Anyone know anything else I could try?

Really hope it's something software related, my DVD drive failed a few months back, hope I don't have to spend more money on it.

A:Laptop Wireless Randomly Stopped Working

You've done the driver, good. You've checked the switch, good. I doubt a System Restore will help here, but you could also try that.

Also, most of the laptops face the problem with the residual charge storage. Residual charge gets stored near the RAM chips of the laptop. If the voltage of the residual charge reaches threshold then the system will not be able to access the memory and hence will give some problems while working. To bring the laptop back to the working state, you will have to clear the residual charge which is stored on the laptop. To clear the residual charge, shut down the laptop and disconnect it from the AC source. Remove the battery and then press the power button of the laptop for about 30 seconds. Replace the battery and see if the problem still persists or not.

Welcome to SevenForums. In Network and Sharing, Change Adapter Settings, is the adapter enabled. If not, right click and enable, this should turn on wireless.
