Dual monitors not working when connected to HDMI

Q: Dual monitors not working when connected to HDMI

System has two HDMI ports and one DVI. The DVI supports a monitor and HDMI is advertised as supporting two monitors. Neither of the HDMI ports are working. Contacted HP support and was told to return for warranty work (1 day old tower). Returned to store for replacement contacted HP support with second tower and was told same, return for warranty work. Contacted online support from another company went through several operations, drivers different connections, both monitor and TV and finally was told tower #2 was also defective. First off let me be clear on the fact that I don't actually know what I'm talking about, so it'd be kind of you to try and understand what I'm getting at I'm pretty much hardware handicap.

So,I bought a tv, so that I could watch tv, go figure. But also so that I could hook it up to be my second monitor, and to use the extended desktop feature, so that the tv and the monitor divide the view. The thing is, I'm running my PC view on the the TV through the HDMI / DVI socket with a very expensive cord I might add, leaving the the regular monitor hooked up with the "normal" socket. Computer recognizes two monitors hooked up, but only displays one, the TV. When I boot my computer, both screens show the boot up but are cloned. As soon as I hit the login screen, the monitor loses it's signal and goes blank, while the computer still recognizes it's plugged in.

This makes me think it has something to do with my graphics card, which is ATI Radeon 7500 LE, one of those basic default cheap *** cards that are plugged in brand computers.

Basicly, can I do something about it? Do I have to buy a new graphics card just for this? If so could you recommend something that can do what I want, is adequate to run newest games with normal settings and doesn't cost over 150e preferrably?

A:HDMI / DVI and "normally" connected dual monitors?

I don't have an ATi card so I don't know what the specifics are called, but if you right click on your desktop, go to properties, then the display settings tab. In there there is probably an advanced settings button, then that will bring up a window with several tabs. One of those will allow you to choose which display is the Primary monitor, and there should also be something in there like "extend desktop to this monitor". That should allow you to run both at once, and not have them both displaying the same thing.

Hi,
I have a Latitude E6440 with an Intel HD Graphics 4600 video card and I have noticed that when the power cord is connected the monitor connected with HDMI goes black and back again randomly. This usually happens several times per minute.
I have both tried with another HDMI cable and monitor but with the same result.
This never happens when the laptop is running on batteries.

Hey There. New here and very glad to find this site. Here's hoping someone can give me insight on this problem I'm having.

So I have a very cheap Dell Optiplex 745 I got off amazon. Do some 2d animation, and it was all I could afford when my laptop had a sudden HDD failure. So anyway, the graphics card outputs to a DMS-59 (I believe) and came with a dual Y dongal converter to VGA output to support dual monitors. So my current setup has my monitor connected to the primary VGA output, and it works fine.

So recently I received a Wacom Cintiq graphics tablet. to hook up it requires an HDMI female port. I tried to rig it up using a converter on the secondary VGA port to change to DVI, then use a second converter to go from DVI to HDMI. But all I get on my tablet is "No Input Signal".

I searched around and haven't been able to find anything to help. I tried it in the primary vga port, but it doesn't work there either. Any Ideas? I looked around for a better way to convert DMS-59 to HDMI, and I found a dual splitter, but it only ships from Europe, and I don't want to pay 60 bucks and wait 3 weeks to get something that may not work.

Any tricks you guys might know to try and fix this? Would it be easier to just replace the graphics card with one that exports HDMI? if so any suggestions of a (cheap) one that would fit, and preferably support dual monitors? Would rather not spend much since I'm saving for a new machine that can render a lit... Read more

I have an LCD TV with HDMI I like to watch movies on from my laptop. It's got an ATI HD2600 card.

I had issues setting up dual screens, extended vs clone etc. I just wanted a quick an d easy plug in to watch the movie, unplug to compute again. But would always have to adjust resolution on the TV from 1650 to 1920 manually.
Best I could do was to hook up the HDMI, disable the laptop display and it would show 1920 on the TV and when I unplug the HDMI, the display would come back on and show it's 1650. This is the only way I've figured out so far that would switch to the right resolution automaically. Plugging the HDMI back in would kill the laptop monitor and show on the TV.

Anyone got a better way?

Hi -

I am running
Win 7 Ultimate with a
GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB and
two SAMSUNG 226BW Black 22" Monitors.

Now I have them set to run through a Monoprice HDMI Switch because I also have my 360 running on the one monitor as well.

Now my issue comes into play, which I am not sure if its the card or not, is when i use the switch to change the one monitor over to play the 360. All the items that were on that monitors screen, like icons, folders, taskbar, what have you, gets shifted over to the other screen.

This, beyond annoying, messes me up because then i have to replace everything on the screen to the position it was, and using auto arrange would not help with something like Rainmeter which I am running. I do know when I had XP and switched over to the 360 this did not happen. So , I don't know what is different in 7 that is now making it do this but is there a way to fix it?

thanks

So let me get this straight: You have two monitors, both are used by your computer, but you want to switch one of them over to the Xbox when you want. This sound right? Have you installed the newest drivers from the Nvidia site? That card is quite old, im not sure if you're gonna get drivers for Se7en, but if not, use the XP drivers.

Oh yeah, and did you upgrade or clean install? If you upgraded, there should be a old.windows directory in you C: and you should find the old working drivers ... Read more

My old monitor has problems turning on, I can leave it on for 30hrs before it decides to display a picture, or I can manipulate it by unplugging the DVI cable from the back, but sometimes even that takes a few tries. It's off warranty and for reference it's a Samsung SyncMaster 226BW.

So I bought a new monitor and I have it plugged in using HDMI, but a problem I get is that when both monitors are plugged in the HDMI has no display until it gets to Windows, so I cannot see the boot process of my PC, because my old monitor as explained above has problems turning on.

Was a hindrance today when I was tinkering with my SSD and had to go to BIOS, and frankly I'd like to be able to see in case anything goes wrong, like a BSOD or Windows update etc.

So how do I get my HDMI monitor to give me a picture when the other monitor is plugged in. My new monitor is another Samsung, SyncMaster SA350.

A:Dual Monitors, HDMI monitor doesn't display BIOS

Short of something like this,

Newegg.com - BYTECC DVI-HM DVI Male to HDMI Female Cable Adaptor

not much as that is a function of the video card and nothing to do with Windows. The only way would be to try and edit the video card's bios so that the HDMI port is made to be the primary port when powering on.

Failing that if the old monitor is that bad, why use it? If the new is the only thing connected then it should display the bios screen when booting up.

HI. I have a Samsung HD monitor and a VGA SuncMaster Samsung monitor. The HD monitor is what I use on my desktop all the time. I am wanting to have dual monitors to use on occasion and use both these at the same time with a mirror image. The graphic card ATI Radeon HD 5450 has a place for my HD and VGA slots. Win 7 recognizes both monitors, BUT my HD monitors resolution is not HD anymore but the VGA monitor is good.

How do I get the settings to be the same as it is on my HD monitor and then display the mirror image to the VGA monitor????

Thanks so much, Tammy

A:ATI Radeon HD 5450 Dual Monitors HDMI & VGA Resolution Problems

Are you sure what you want is to DUPLICATE the contents of both monitors (referred to as "clone mode")? You want to show the identical desktop content on both monitors identically and simultaneously?

Or do you want to EXTEND the Windows desktop to run horizontally across both monitors, so that your Windows desktop is pretty much "double wide"? This allows you to drag windows onto one or the other monitor, and open up independent program windows on either monitor to meet your needs (e.g. to look at two open program windows independently presented on each of your monitors).

If you run the dual-monitor setup in EXTEND mode (with one of the monitors called "primary" monitor for Windows and the other monitor known as the "extend/secondary" monitor) then each monitor can be configured to run at its own native/optimal resolution, independent of what the other is configured at. So if you have a CRT (typically 4:3 or so) it can run at say 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 or 1440x900 or something like that, while your flatscreen/TV (typically 16x9 or 16x10) can run at say 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 or 1680x1050 or something like that. So you'd get FULL use of both monitors at their native/optimal resolutions, and maximum width of the effective combined Windows desktop.

If instead you do really want to run the two monitors in "clone mode", then you only have a Windows desktop that is the smaller of the two monitors. And you will be running the... Read more

This happens with two batches of 7040s, one with hard disk drives and the other with solid state drives and two different model displays, U2414h and U2417h. The systems are running Windows7.
In each case the display flickers from time to time and, in the worst case, both monitors freeze, one with no display and the other with a few scattered white dashes on the black background. This has NOT been noticed on earlier Optiplex models from Dell. 780s, with a different display model, or 9020s with the U2414h monitors. As far as I know this occurs once or twice in a five day working week.
I have run the built in diagnostics on both the monitors and the monitors without any faults being found.
The 7040s have had the BIOS upgraded and the latest drivers applied as well as the latest Windows updates. I have scanned the event log without finding anything, although I am unsure what to look for.
Is this a known issue? Is there anything I can do to test the systems, other the built in diagnostics.

Hi there guys, my name is James. I'm new to 7 Forums so please help me out!
In my work office I have dual monitors connected to a single desktop computer via DVI. I usually work both at work and home so I use my laptop alot. When I'm at home I need more desktop space so I bought 2 cheap monitors that only support VGA inputs. But because I'm using a laptop I only have 1 VGA panel. I have bought a USB 3.0 to VGA adapter and I have installed all necessary drivers to run it. So here is my issue with my display.

In the Resolution Settings it shows 3 displays. 1 Saying Mobile PC Display, 2 saying HP vs17 (My Monitor) and 3 saying Generic Non-PnP Monitor. There is nothing wrong with the monitor as it worked fine on my old windows 7 laptop. There are 2 issues here:
1.) The second monitor is called Generic Non-PnP Monitor and it's default resolution is 800x600 even though it's native resolution is 1024x1024.

2.) The screen is not being displayed even though my computer thinks it is being displayed.

If anyone can help me with my issues it will be much appreciated. I will list some basic specs and If you need any more description details feel free to ask.

Hi there,
I've got an OptiPlex 3040 micro running Windows 10 64bit (came installed on the machine) and two monitors (Dell U2415, came as a pair) using extended display. One monitor has an HDMI-HDMI cable going into the computer's HDMI port, the other has a DisplayPort-DisplayPort cable going into the computer's DisplayPort port. (There is no VGA port installed on this machine)
Both monitors are on the correct setting for detecting what cable is plugged into them. Whichever monitor the DisplayPort cable is plugged into cuts out to a black screen with nothing on it multiple times an hour during normal computing (mostly email and web browsing). Not a steady flicker, just randomly goes black and randomly comes back on.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for the monitors, checked all the settings, ran the troubleshooter (no issues found), updated my graphics card driver (it was already the latest version), and nothing seems to be wrong there.
When I swapped the HDMI and DP cables to see if it was a cable issue or the physical monitor, the monitor that then had the DP cable plugged into it started to have the problem, whereas the other monitor (now plugged in via HDMI) had no problems. Originally there was a Mini DP-DP cable connecting one of the monitors and I thought maybe that was the issue, so I replaced it with a brand new DP-DP cable the other day. Still having issues with whichever monitor is connected via DP.

This does not sound like a hardware failure. Did you check/test all of the Windows 10 power management options? Specifically the PCI Express- Link State Power Management setting? Or just set the Windows 10 power management to High performance and retest. Also, if the U2415s USB upstream cables are connected to the computer, be sure to disable the USB selective suspend setting.

When I unplug the laptop to skype and then plug it back into the tv when I am done I get a, "NO RGB signal" message from the tv. I don't know why it is doing this, I have been able to use system restore to get it working again, but it is no longer working. Any ideas?

A:laptop connected to HDMI tv was working now keep getting no RGB signal

Try this:

Hold down the input button on the right side of the Tv. This is the bottom button
With the tv off, press and hold the bottom button (input)

When the TV powers up and you see the input menu, release and press the button
to change the mode to your preference.

Hope that helps.

I've tried updating my drivers, restarting but it doesn't work.

Hello, I just installed win7 pro 64 bit on the system I built tonight, and only one of my monitors will work. I installed the latest drivers for my ATI 5770, and windows is recognizing both monitors, but only one comes on. The other stays in standby mode. I made sure both monitors are enabled. If I switch the cables in the back of the video card, then the opposite monitor works. I can also drag monitor 2 to the left of monitor one, and it takes the taskbar away from the working monitor as expected, moving it to the monitor that won't turn on. Has anyone seen this issue before? Thanks in advance for any help.

A:How to get my dual monitors working

Wow, didn't know PB still made computers ...

Anyway, the best way to connect two monitors is by using DVI or VGA outputs. I don't think S-Video is going to work well for you. That output is for televisions and smaller resolution displays. If you have a 9600 GT there should be two DVI outputs on the back of the card. If your displays don't have DVI inputs, then you can get a DVI to VGA adapter for pretty cheap at any local computer store.

DVI is on top (gold), VGA is on the bottom (blue)

I have a VGA splitter. I tried using this, on the off chance it would give me dual monitor setup. But it doesn't.
So I am hoping somebody here would be able to tell me how to get dual monitors working with this PC.
Presumably I have to buy a certain graphics card?

Hello, it sounds like your monitor has had its better days, it happens. Get the exact model number and research on the net the type of issues most people has with it and see if any of those match your experience, but it sounds like the main board or graphic board is going out.
Research parts availability and cost; if you are handy enough you may be able to repair it yourself, if not, you would be better off replacing it.

I recently installed windows 7 on my toshiba qosmio f25-av205 with a the geforce go 6600 graphic card and I tried to attach a 2nd monitor to the laptop (sceptre 22") but the 2nd monitor does not display anything when connected and remains black and in standby mode. If I restart the computer with the 2nd monitor plugged in, the laptop's primary screen goes black and the 2nd monitor then displays the regular windows screen.
When i go to the nvidia control panel, it recognizes that two monitors are available and it will even show that the two monitors are on duplicate screen or extended screen, however only one monitor will actually be working.
I've updated my nvidia driver first by using windows update, then by getting updated drivers from laptopvideo2go, but none of the drivers i've used seem to give me two screens working at the same time.
I've tried pressing the windows symbol+p, and it will show that the screens should be duplicated or extended, but only one screen will work. Once the 2nd monitor is working I cannot get the main laptop screen working until I unplug the 2nd monitor and restart my computer.
I would greatly appreciate if anyone could help me out.

Welcome!

Certainly sounds like a driver issue. I am having a little trouble locating them for your card. First, are you sure that your card is 6600 and Go? I cannot find a Geforce 6 Go series. Another problem is that I do not know whether you have the 32 or 64-bit Windows.

Hopefully you can have better luck than I did.

Hey everybody, I want to run Dual Monitors on my Dell Optiplex GX280 (I know it's not the best)

It's XP SP2 Home Edition
System Model: OptiPlex GX280
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.40GHz
Memory: 1014MB RAM

I've got an Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family with Display Memory of 128.0 MB.

My Monitor is a HP L1940 19". Capable of running up to 1600 X 1200.

MY Specs are in a text file and can be downloaded from here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZW716SW3

Basically, I went out and bought a DVI to VGA adapter and a 2nd VGA to VGA cable for the monitor. I am sure both monitors work with both cables as I have switched and the likes and they both work. I have tried setting it up in the graphics options, but it says there is not a 2nd monitor connected. My graphics card has a VGA ports and a DVI port, so I connected the DVI to VGA adapter and thus now have two monitors hooked up to the card through two VGA Ports. But it is not registering that 2 are hooked up, only one. The Second Monitor is just sitting on the table here, plugged in, hooked up, but asleep and when it turn it on it says "VGA Input: No Input Signal; Dvi Input: No Input Signal"

What am I to do?

Hope to get this problem fixed asap. Thanks guys

I had a dual monitor setup working just fine. I have changed nothing. Two LCD screens into my Radeon HD 5850.

Now it'll work if I plug a monitor into the top DVI on the video card; that's one monitor.

But if I plug the other monitor into the bottom DVI, suddenly both screens turn off (orange light on monitor power button) and my video card starts a high-pitched whirring noise, like a fan. I've never heard this before.

Any ideas?

Having just upgraded from XP using the Nvidia dual monitor desktops for years, I was surprised to find Windows 7 has this feature in-built with the added bonus of slideshow desktop images C00L!
So beyond Win7 eye candy which is better, Does it come down to games running faster under the Nvidia dual desktops, what is the general preference here?

A:Is Nvidia dual monitors a poor cousin to Windows 7 dual monitors?..

afaik, there is no real performance difference, as all stuff is handled by the nvidia driver anyway.

And of course the more monitors the higher performance hit as there is more screen surface to work on (the same as increasing resolution).

Btw, the main pityfall of the multiple monitors is that the taskbar is only in the primary monitor, but there are a ton of good third party programs that can handle this, like Actual Multiple Monitors.

Hi,

I've recently purchased a Samsung T23A750 monitor and to my disappointment when I try to watch a movie the built in speakers are not functioning. I have a Sony Vaio Z216GX connected via HDMI to the monitor (HDMI-DVI) port. I can definitely see the video, but no audio is playing from the speakers. The built in speakers are not at fault- I did a self-diagnosis of the monitor and the speakers seem to work fine. I also set the monitor as the default for the audio and even when Win 7 says its functioning properly, the speakers still don't work. Conversely, setting the default to my PC speakers work fine. I'm sure its not the HDMI cable- I used the same one to hook my pc to my tv with everything working fine. Any ideas??

I go through the whole process. I shutdown the pc, I hook up both monitors, once I reboot I go into display settings, I then click on box 2 and check "extend the desktop on this monitor" and the second monitor won't work.

I tried just using one crt with the adapter in the dvi-d port and the monitor wouldn't work when I rebooted. So then I thought it was a problem with the adapter. But when I set up both again and then went into the nvidia control panel both monitors were detected but the second still wouldn't work.

If anyone could help me sort this out it would be greatly appreciated.

Btw, I tested the second monitor on it's own and is working fine.

My computer always sets the primary monitor to the monitor on the left side. My primary monitor is on the right side of my setup. I can not move the monitor to the left side do to size and position. It doesn't matter which video card I plug the monitors into. All that seems to matter is which one is listed as primary and then automatically puts it on the left side. I cannot grab and drag the displays in the Nvidia display panel. I did not have this issue under Win XP only Windows 7. Any thoughts on how I can make the primary monitor on the right side?

I have installed a NVidia GeForce 3 AGP card and an ATI Radeon PCI card. These are attached to a 19" CRT and a 15" LCD monitor (respectively). They initially worked fine with my new install of Windows XP Professional, and I was enjoying them. After installing a number of software titles, I rebooted and - the secondary (LCD) monitor was off. I checked the settings, and that monitor could not be made to load (although it was still recognized). I decided to uninstall the driver, hoping that a re-install would take care of it. After the uninstall, I had Windows seek new hardware. Windows XP recognized the hardware, tried to install it, but no luck. I decided to re-boot again, and this time when windows came up, the settings didn't even show another monitor attached.

I have one other problem that arose at that time (and which I resolved by having windows re-install itself) - the machine would "hang" after shutting down. Windows would seem to exit, the screen went blank, but the machine would not restart. In fact, even pushing the reset button did nothing - a power off reboot was necessary. I've since fixed that, as I said, by re-installing Windows. (The re-install didn't overwrite the other programs I had installed.)

Where should I begin to get my dual displays back? I have worked with the registry before, if that's what's needed.

A:Dual Monitors Quit Working!

I re-installed Windows - It's fixed (and XP didn't reset all my installed programs or registry either - what a relief).

I have a brand new Dell OptiPlex 3020m. It has one VGA and one Display Port connector. All the drivers are up to date, yet it will not work with the Asus monitors I have setup.  I have one monitor connected directly though VGA with no problems. I have the other connected though a Display port to DVI adapter and that's the the one that will not connect. Tried different Display Port to DVI adapters, different DVI cables.  The monitors have no auto connect, So I had to set them manually, One is set to VGA, other is set to DVI.
Also checked the Bios for that Multi Monitor setup.  If it's in there, its ether hidden or not available.
Any thoughts, Ideas?

I have the same problem. But tried with other brand of monitors. The display port does not work.
I saw on a differente topic about 3020 model (whithout the "M") and the solution was update bios to A09 version. Then apears a Video option on Bios Setup. But the 3020m has no such option.

It sounds like you have Extended the Desktop. In other words, your computer monitor is the main screen and the TV is the extended part, so there are no Icons because it's showing the far right or left of the desktop.
What is your Video Card? You should have an icon for your video card either by the clock or in Control Panel. Enter that software and set it up for TV. Not extended desktop.

Tried a new HDMI cord - no luck
Updated video card drivers - no luck

Hi! I just upgraded to Win8 this weekend and so far I really like it. I discovered something this morning that now that the weekend is over is bugging the crap out of me and I need help. I work from home and use this alot so it would be helpful.

I am trying to do a couple things I could easily do in 7,
- have Chrome open in both monitors at once with different things on them.
- currently Chrome has no minimize/maximize buttons on the upper right like it used to. Makes it very hard to multitask.

I have 2 monitors, the main is a 23" touch screen and the second is an 18" non-touch screen.

Also, is there a way to have the taskbar to appear at the bottom always like it used to?

Thanks! I really appreciate the help!

Now if someone could tell me why windows 8 won't fill the screen at the resolution recommended for my 23" monitor I'd be good!

I know the difference is one can use HDMI and the other can use VGA.

There are 2 monitors on the Dell website, they are both Ultra Sharp and they are both full HD. One is ?490 and the other is ?322.80.

This is the most expensive one - Dell UltraSharp U2413 61cm(24") PremierColor LED monitor DVI,DP,HDMI (1920x1200) Black.

This is the ceaper one - Dell UltraSharp U2412M 61cm (24") LED monitor VGA,DVI,DP (1920x1200) Black.

Apart from the price and one having a HDMI port there doesn't seem any difference between the 2, can someone clarify please.

A:What is the difference between HDMI and VGA monitors?

HDMI also carries an Audio signal so maybe one has speakers and the other doesn't? VGA is analog. DVI and HDMI are digital signals. DVI is video only and HDMI is video and audio.

Local salespersons have relayed to me that a DVI connection is the exact same as HDMI, aside from the fact that DVI does not carry the sound signal that HDMI does - And I'm entirely unconcerned with the sound feature since I never use monitor speakers, mine are separate. For our purposes, lets assume the monitor is a 1920 by 1080 resolution screen.

A) Is this actually correct - that DVI and HDMI transmit the same picture quality?

So if I were to watch a blue ray disk via a DVI cable, from card to monitor, the picture would in fact be the same as when connecting with an HDMI cable?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
B) If I go with a monitor having VGA/HDMI connector options only, and my card (Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT) is only fitted with DVI -- I'll use a DVI cable with HDMI adaptor.
With these adaptors, is there loss of signal quality?
A:HDMI vs DVI connection for monitors
Both DVI and HDMI transmit the video signal digitally. so your information is correct. The adapter merely allows the connection since the DVI and HDMI ports are not the same physical configuration. Picture quality is not an issue.
I have a two monitor setup at home and have had it working for some time now. I do a lot of work from home and plug my work laptop in to my existing monitors so I can have more room to move around the large amount of windows I constantly have open. Because of this, I have had to dig around behind my monitors in order to free the hdmi cables and change the display computer, so I recently picked up some Fosmon HDMI 3x1 pigtail switches. This is, however, where the issue lies. While I have one switch plugged in, everything works perfectly fine. As soon as I plug the second one in, the second screen goes blank. However, if I unplug the first screen, the second screen will go on correctly and take the first screen's place. The OS detects that there is a monitor there, it will just refuse to send any display data to it so the monitor goes into power saving mode. If I switch the two pigtail switches, the switch that was attached first seems to continue to work but the original working monitor now turns off with the second-attached switch. If anyone has any idea what the next diagnostic step would be for this, please let me know as I am unsure as to what may be causing this other than a defective cable (which seems to be working if it is the only one plugged in).
Sounds like the primary monitor electronics might be shot, try connecting JUST that monitor alone and if it continues to cycle.... Try all the possible connections it offers that you can, if one works, stick with it.
If you want certainty that it's broken, hook it up to another system if it's still failing on yours.
I just got a new work computer here (Dell Optiplex 790) and this issue is driving me nuts because my productivity is way down without three monitors, and even further because I'm spending all my time trying to get three monitors to work =D
I have two ATI Radeon HD 6350 video cards with HDMI ports. I'm using two splitters. One splitter for the main card has two Acer monitors hooked up (these work), and the other splitter has a single Acer monitor hooked up and does not work.
I know it works, because I can alternate between monitors but only two at a time.
Now - I've been doing research for about six hours and I just can't figure it out. I've been reading a lot about something called a "display port" but I can confirm that there are no display ports on either video card.
I've included a pic just for fun I guess:
A:Two Radeon HD 6350 (HDMI) not supporting three monitors
Skibbles, welcome to the Seven Forums.
Is it two cards, or is it a single card with a low profile bracket like the one shown here?
If it is a single card, then you can only run two monitors off of it unless you use a splitter. A splitter also defeats the purpose of multi monitor unless you are looking to run the same thing on both (clone).
Hello dunna, welcome to Sevenforums
With a laptop, (assuming you have an HDMI port), it shouldn't be too difficult. However, laptops are different. For example, mine, you plug in the secondary monitor, and there is a function key (Fn) that you press, and the corresponding key to change the output mode (for me, it is F1). It should let you choose how you want to display to the monitor. Test it out yourself to see, but if you can't find it, let us know. It helps if you provide the laptop type, so we can tell you the keys exactly
I'm getting frustrated with trying to get all these options to play together correctly when it comes to my headphones. When I plug my headphones in the front jack, nothing changes unless I manually switch the default Playback Device. All things in question work, and well. However, depending on the convoluted configuration at the moment, either the monitor will keep playing & the headphones will play nothing, OR the monitor will keep playing & the headphones will also start playing.
Setup right now:
Monitor= ViewSonic VX2253 22"
(built in speakers, I own no others)
Connected to my video card via HDMI.
Connected to back green audio input.
Relevant internal settings through monitor= set to "HDMI PC" (as opposed to AV)Audio input set to HDMIOnboard Audio= Realtek? ALC 892 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC
This is what the green audio plug is plugged into from the monitor.
Controls the front headphone jack.
I have tried as many different combinations of settings as I could think of. Any ideas how to make the monitor speakers play nice with the headphones???
A:Headphones vs Monitor: HDMI audio, SRS for Monitors, & Realtek ???
Normally, when you have something connected to the HDMI port on the PC, the HDMI becomes the default audio playback device. Thus the regular PC audio (Realtek in your case) is not used. This would account for not having headphone audio. You can manually change the default playback device to "Speakers" (your PC sound device) and then you should get the headphone sound. I would suspect you will have to do this every time you boot your PC.
Hi there
Most people I've seen usually have appalling (almost unreadable) quality when using an external monitor with an HDMI cable -- it's quite simple to fix really easily. Films / video are usually OK but if you are reading email or doing standard computer work then you want the monitor to give you decent results.
First ensure that the "Sharpness" setting on the monitor is set correctly -- oversharpening makes text etc look terrible.
secondly use something like "Auto size" so the picture size fits the screen properly rather than be slightly too large or small even if say 1920 X 1080 HD is selected.
thirdly use correct frequency for scanning -- in Europe should be 60 or 59HZ - use the "p" choice not the "I" one.
finally use sensibly the smart picture settings if you have one or use colour / tint / contrast / brightness settings properly.
Messing around with these controls really does turn an external monitor from in some cases having an almost unreadable screen to a pleasure to use --even on cheap 22 inch TV's.
Use the monitors own menu - don't do it from the PC display settings.
A typical laptop's video card will be perfectly ok on these types of monitors.
Cheers
jimbo
I recently installed windows 10 on my computer. I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 display adapter (I guess its a graphics card) and an Acer K272HL monitor (1920 x 1080 resolution 60Hz). When I first installed Windows 10, I noticed some of my apps were not fitting on the screen properly (they were too big and parts were almost off the screen). So I did what I now know I shouldn't do, I bumped the monitor resolution up past what Windows recommended. Now I have a black screen with a little box floating around that says "Input not Supported". I know the monitor still works because I hooked it up to another computer I have, and It works fine. It also works in Safe Mode but when I restart out of Safe Mode, I get the same black screen. You can probably tell, I'm not the brightest light in the room when it comes to computer technology, so I'm looking for some help and suggestions as to how to get my monitor back to the proper resolution. By the way, my first attempt at installing Windows 10 ended up costing me $200.00 to have an expert come in and re-install Windows 7 for me. I'd like to not have to embarrass myself again to call him back. Anything you can think of that might help, I'd be greatfull.
Thanks,
Gary
I should also mention:
This only happens while the computer is booting up.
It doesn't happen every time.... It happens maybe 1 out of 10 reboots?
Hi,
I have an Asrock ION 330 HT BD with a Sony Bravia 720p attached (HDMI to HDMI). When I start up my PC, the screen remains black. Only after I plug in a second monitor, both screens work just fine. When I pull the second monitor out, the Bravia also stops getting a signal. Seems a bit weird.. How can I get it to work with just the Bravia attached?
Thanks,
Gijs
A:HDMI to HDMI only working with second monitor attached
Hi and welcome to the forum.
Have you made sure your graphics card driver is up to date?
Have you tried starting your PC up in safe mode and seeing if the problem still persists?
Please ensure you have done both of these and then post back; it would also be helpful if we knew your system specifications which you can fill in under 'User CP'.
Also does the task bar appear on the primary monitor or secondary monitor?
Heya
I connected second graphic card to my old system. Windows for some reason thinks there are 3 monitors connected where as I have only 2.
How do I set it back to 2 so my mouse would stop wondering off screen?
Thanks, bye.
A:Windows 7 thinks there are 3 monitors when only 2 are connected
Is this an SLI or Crossfire setup?
If so have you enabled the feature through the nvidia/ati settings?
I am trying to add 2 external HDMI monitors to my Asus N550JV laptop computer. I connected one monitor to the HDMI port. It works fine. The other monitor is connected to the Mini Display Port using a small by mini port cable with an HDMI connector on the other end to connect to the 2nd monitor. Monitor 2 works in the HDMI port by does not work with the mini port. When I connect both monitors at the same time, both go black. Is there a manual set up to make these work. I am a stock trader and want to have 3 separate monitors, including my laptop monitor, with each showing a different page to work from. Is it possible with my existing equipment?
I have recently bought a new computer, so I took my SSD and all of my HDD's out of my old PC and put them in the new one, although i decided that i would like to use my old setup to learn how to overclock. (the computer was going to get thrown out so if i destroy it it doesn't really matter) I was given an old 40GB which i planned on installing windows on.
The problem is that I connected my display to the onboard when installing windows as the computer wouldn't boot from anything. (i also reset the bios, removed the graphics card completely and used a bootable USB flash drive to install windows as i didn't know the real cause of the problem) After windows was installed i put the graphcis card back in, but now the computer believes that 2 monitors are connected to the computer when in reality only 1 is.
I've Googled this and found nothing and absolutely nobody i know can work the problem out, please tell me if you need any extra info as I am more than happy to give it to you if it helps you work out my problem.
thank you in advance
I have a HP Pavilion dv4-1435dx laptop. TV is Dynex LCD (one of those no name brand ones ) I checked the drivers on the laptop, they all seem to be up to date. However when I go to Control panel-Sound-Manage audio devices, there is no icon with an HDMI label to select for playback device. How do I add the driver for HDMI (to select)?
I have scanned (and tried) numerous suggestions on this type of a problem on different sites on the web (including this one, under a different thread)
Any suggestions, other than try a new cable?
Thank you in advance.
Hello everyone!
First of all i would like to thank everyone for the answers and help you share and i am new to this forum. I tried to search before making this thread but i havent found any answer that could help me.
I just bought 2 LCD monitors ( Acer and Asus) they all work perfectly But i have a problem, a huge one. The Asus monitor refuses to work when the VGA (acer) is connected and vice versa.
The Asus is a 23" LCD monitor, its connected via HDMI.
The Acer is a 18,5" LCD monitor, its connected via VGA.
My laptop is an Acer 7736, 2,20 GHZ, 4 GB RAM, 1GB graphic card from ATI Radeon.
So i beg you please to help me, i have tried everything possible, been trying for the last 7 hours and i even downloaded Ultramon but it doenst work either.
I only want them to work in same time, what can i do?
Here is the link, i even tried updating the drivers on the graphic card but nothing works.
Thanks in advance!!!
A:HDMI trouble when VGA connected
A lot of laptops do not have the ability to go to more than two monitors (Edit: this is including laptop as monitor). You can probably have both work if you close your laptop lid, otherwise, only the laptop and VGA or laptop and HDMI will work. (Edit: if you close laptop lid, the two monitors VGA and HDMI will work but only with laptop monitor closed)
I think there is a piece of hardware you can purchase that can turn a USB port into and external display adapter, but I don't know if it was GFX card specific or if your card needs or supports a particular piece.
My laptop suffers from this as well. I tried it and confirmed it after seeing issue on this forum a few weeks ago.
First of all sorry if it's not that Windows related!
So the problem is that my LCD TV has a scrambled picture when my computer is turned on and connected to the TV via HDMI. I got analog signal TV connection but the picture is fine while the PC is turned off. Yeah I know I should get digi TV but till then I would like to sort this out. The TV is a Samsung 40" LCD model LE40A336. It has 2 HDMI input ports. Tryed both with same results. BTW if I remember it right, I had the PC connected via VGA last weekend and didn't have this problem. I will double check it in the morning.
Maybe I'm using wrong setting with PC... wrong Hz or sth. Anyhow maybe someone has had similar problems and solved it.
i5 2500K
Windows 7 x64
EDIT: The TV is the only monitor connected to the PC via HDMI. Sound is passing through the HDMI cable aswell.
the VGA doesn't transfer data signals through digital technology, it uses analog, that's why the picture appears correct on the VGA, the HDMi though uses a technology called HDCP handshaking, the PC needs to handshake the display for it to show the images being encrypted from the desktop, if that handshake doesn't take place then the image will appear scrambled.
you can read up about HDCP here High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia but your options are just to use the VGA cable, or if it is a software fault then ... Read more
Windows settings to extend screen to both monitors works fine until I undock then redock.  Then the Intel Graphics settings seem to override the WIndows display settings and only one monitor works until reset using the windows 7 screen resolution to detect and extend again.  When the Intel display app is opened from the system tray, the multiple monitors tool is only showing one of the 2 monitors connected.
I have an Elitebook 8530p that I am trying to connect to my TV so I can view online TV on my TV screen. I can stream the online TV and watch it on the laptop ok, and I can connect the laptop to the TV with HDMI cord and I see the picture on the TV too, but as soon as I push the play button and it starts to stream the Laptop freezes. This happens on both TV's in our house with different HDMI cords which leads me to believe it is an issue with the laptop (not the TV's or cords). I have tried pushing the Fn + F4 buttons to clone it but that makes no difference. I have tried changing the display settings but I don't really know what I am doing! Another post said to choose full HDMI setting but even though the laptop has a HMDI port it didn't appear to have that setting. Is it too old?
A:Laptop freezes when connected to TV through HDMI
The problem is most likely the video card driver, so yes technically your laptop is too old, but luckily you can save that geezer! If updating the drivers doesn't work then you can try changing resolutions.
Solution found here:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...o/7fafd27d-816f-456c-afa6-3c7fec3909e3?auth=1
a. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
b. Click System and Maintenance, click System, and then click Device Manager.
Note If Control Panel is in Classic View, double-click System, and then click Device Manager.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
c. In Device Manager, expand Display Adapters, right-click the display devices, and then click properties and under the driver tab click on Uninstall.
d. When you are prompted to confirm that you want to remove the device, click OK.
e. Restart the computer.
After the computer restarts, the drivers will be automatically installed. Check after this procedure. Also check if you have any exclamation mark or cross marks alongside the display devices listed in device manager.
You can update the drivers using windows update. Refer to the below mentioned link and use the steps provided accordingly -http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isnt-working-properly
You may also check if there are any updates for the drivers at the manufacturer website. You may even install the latest drivers from the manufacturer... Read more
Decided to run this old laptop to my TV so that I could watch shows from online. When I connected using an HDMI cable the sound cuts in and out very bad. Thought the cable might be bad so I switched it out for a new high dollar cable but still has the same problem. Issue occurs both streaming and when testing using system sounds (such as "test" in the sound setup in device manager). Running Windows 10 (64-bit) and have installed all system updates and have tried updating the audio driver but it is saying I have the most up to date driver. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I know DVI doesn't carry sound.
Today my notebook Asus M50Vn suddenly started to behave weird. While it's connected to plasma via HDMI, everything starts to stutter a bit, which is very inconvenient in videos. It works like this: 0,5 s of fluid picture, 0,1 s of freeze, 0,5 s of fluid picture, and so on.
Situation is the same on primary (built-in) monitor and secondary (plasma), as well as on youtube, VLC, PotPlayer and MPC HC. DXVA and CUDA won't make any difference, choosing different video renders in player's settings won't do the help as well. I've already tried to install older and newer drivers (graphics is Geforce 9650m GT) but it didn't help.
Computer is 100 % virus free, there is COMODO IS for on-access security and I've also checked it with malwarebytes, hitman pro, emsisoft emergency kit, kaspersky tdss killer and CCE. Almost all processes are disabled.
It's interesting because there's no problems when plasma is connected via VGA.
Unfortunately there's no useful system restore points.
Does anybody have any idea what could be wrong? Thanks in advance.
A:Notebook Is Slow While Connected To HDMI
Well normally I'd have said it was just your laptop struggling to upscale the image due to hardware limitations. But a 9650gt should be more than capable.
What happens if you disable the laptop screen and just use the tv as a primary monitor?
Erm.. Try a different HDMI lead and lower the resolution a little. But that's clutching at straws lol
Hi everyone, I just got a new sound bar (Yamaha YAS-105) which only supports Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3, I think) and I want it to smoothly transcode all of my DTS or newer audio to a multi stream AC3 in both MPC player from the latest K-lite mega pack, VLC and Winamp, or rather, if possible, just in general. If I play something thats DD5.1 in K-Lite's MPC it neatly picks up the audio and displays it as DD on my sound bar, same thing goes for DD5.1 in VLC etc. but as soon as I play something in DTS or higher there is no audio. I've been googling and tweaking the settings already and after messing around a bit it does play sound through MPC but none of my Dolby lights light up on my device and it doesn't sound like 5.1 either, the weird thing is that no lights go on, not even the PCM light just the TV light is connected and it gives a sort of stereo with subwoover sound (so 2.1). If anyone can help me out I'd be very grateful, I know it's possible because it works with media boxes as well, I just can't get it to work on windows... Any extra info, I have an Alienware X51 RC1, Soundbar is a Yamaha YAS-105, like I said it's hooked up via HDMI to my TV and my TV through a Digital optical cable to my soundbar.
If the title of your post is accurate.....then that will never work. You have to connect the TV to the PC with an HDMI cable and then do the same thing for the monitor. You need 2 cables. No other way around it.
Realtek shouldn't even be involved with the HDMI sound. I suggest to update your laptop's drivers and use "Intel Display Audio" as your HDMI driver. Set the volume to max then you're good to go.
Hi,
I just did a fresh install of Win 8.1 last week and my TV which is connected via HDMI is not getting detected as a display on my PC. My monitor was detected fine.
When i right click my desktop and go to screen resolution, the TV doesnt show up there even post clicking detect. Same if i go into AMD CCC and click on detect.
However Win 8.1 can detect it. The TV is seen in device manager under digital media device and i can see the TV under Devices and Printers in Control Panel. I've tried troubleshooting it but it says everything is fine.
But I need it to come up as a display so i can use it as a primary display at times or to duplicate display.
I had no such problems with Win 7. It would detect right off the bat.
Things ive tried:-
I've installed the Omega 14.12 drivers and the Beta 15.4 drivers.
I've tried installing them in Win 7 compatibility mode too, but the installer then wouldnt give me the option to install the display driver and the HDMI audio driver.
One thing i notice is that the driver for the TV is provided by Microsoft and the date of the driver is 6/21/2006! So maybe this needs to be updated. I tried to click on update driver but it says my driver is up to date.
I also have all the latest windows updates installed.
so not sure what else to do here.
Please help.
A:Win 8.1 - TV connected via HDMI not detected as a Display
The 2006 device driver is simply the generic one which is normal, same one I get when TV is plugged in.
What HDMI port are you using? One on motherboard or one coming directly from GPU? This almost has to be a graphics driver problem.
Why would you try installing drivers in 7 compatibility mode? We are talking 8.1 here right? Have you tried drivers from manufacturers site?
A laptop or desktop? Motherboard and GPU make/model?
So, so many details you've left out.
Would help to have some system specs.
I know this is one that has been floating around the forums for a while but I have not been able to find anything that works in my situation. When I connect my laptop to my TV (Panasonic Viera Plasma) via an HDMI cable, I can get the video to show on the TV fine but there is no audio on the TV; it comes out of the laptop. I have tried everything I can think of including deleting the drivers then reinstalling them, updating them, rolling them back, etc., etc., etc. Here are the specs on my laptop:HP ENVY dv7 Notebook PCWindows 8.1 64-bit, 8GB RAMIntel(R) Core(TM) i5-3230M CPU @ 2.60GHzIntel(R) HD Graphics 4000Intel(R) Display Audio (with Beats Audio)IDT High Definition Audio CODEC Also, here is a snapshot of the Playback Devices:  As you can see, I have nothing which says "HDMI". I have gotten quite frustrated with not being able to get this to work. I would appreciate any help I can get. Thank you. Alex...
