Once plugges in , it popped up as an option in my network however when I went to set it up and start to use it , there was a connection problem from the website. Hi All,

I have a Linksys WRT54G2 V1 router that doesn't work.

The lights all blink properly, but the internet connection part doesn't seem to be working. When connecting internet line directly to the computer, my internet works, but when connecting it to the router to the computer, it doesn't.

Is there a way to troubleshoot this? Or is this router a goner?

I've tried resetting, unplugging for 30 minutes, etc. Putting in 192.168.1.1 brings up nothing on my web browser. Pinging it says connection timed out.

My ipad is able to pick up the router signal as it shows the wifi bars on top, but when trying to use the internet, it says that it's not connected to the web.

Please help!

Thanks!

A:Wifi router blinking, but not connecting. Help!

Hello, you could try a reset on your router, here are instructions from the cisco site.
for your model

To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:

1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
5) Power down the router.
6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Enter the following: "ping 192.168.1.1" (no quotes), and hit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out." If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
10) Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1. This will take you to your router's login page. Leave the user name blank, and in the password field, enter "admin" (with no quotes). This will take you to your router setup page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right... Read more

hello, I have a problem connecting wifi router(airlive wt-2000r) to my ADSL modem(webstar epc2203ed2.0) using utp patch cable. When my PC is connected straight to the ADSL modem everything works like charm. But when I connect modem with wan port on the router and router with my PC I get no internet access. The network shows as unidentified network and win7 troubleshooter says: Default gateway not available.

Connecting them two devices seems pretty simple and I don´t think I am doing anything wrong so what could be the problem?

Any help would be very appreciated. Thank you. This is my ipconfig /all

I am usually pretty savvy with networking but this one really has got me. I have searched all over teh Intarwebs with no success solving it.

Basically, here's the issue. I'm in Mexico, and I want to set up a VPN (specifically HideMyAss, HMA) so that I can use my Roku and generally stream things from the United States.

TELMEX has given me a Alcatel-Lucent I-240w-q router which connects to the fiber line they have run to my house.

Separately, I bought a ASUS RT-N16 wifi router because that is the one that HMA says can be programmed to be the central "tunnel" into their VPN. I upgraded the RT-N16 firmware to DD-WRT's most recent build.

I have access to the config sections of both routers so I can modify their settings at will.

So what I need to do is connect the Alcatel router to the Asus router in such a way as I can use the Asus router as the primary access to the Internet (I wanted to set this up BEFORE I get the HMA subscription so that I could confirm it worked before I shell out for HMA).

I would deeply appreciate any assistance at all in setting things up so it goes through.

A:Connecting fiber modem to wifi router

You'll need to check with Roku as to whether this is a violation of the terms of service. Based on what I'm seeing, Roku has specific appliances for different countries. I can easily see that what you're doing by accessing US programming from Mexico is a violation of the terms of service; more specifically the programming owners will probably have issues with streaming to foreign countries.

I have tried disabling 802.11e/WMM QoS to OFF but that has not helped much. I also did a factory reset.

Can someone help me out please?

This is not exactly Windows 10 issue but a networking issue that I need some help with.

I am in a situation, where I need to use ethernet cable connection but there is no physical ethernet port to connect to, but there is ample wifi. I have this pocket router, Amazon.com: TP-LINK TL-WR702N Wireless N150 Travel Router, Nano Size, Router/AP/Client/Bridge/Repeater Modes, Up to 150Mbps, USB Powered: Computers Accessories which I think can be used for this purpose. I just want to confirm, it is indeed possible.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi,

I recently bought dlink D2750U WIFI ADSL modem/router, for my ADSL internet connection.

But I have now changed my ISP, who provide internet via cable(not telephone line). The ISP guy provides a cable modem(old modem) along with it.

I have connected my PC this way:
Cable modem -> Router -> PC through RJ45. I am able to access internet from my PC, but I am not able to get wifi working on the router. And I am logging onto internet through a dial up connection.
Questions:
1) Please help in configuring the router to get wifi working.
2) Also, my default gateway seems to be either 0.0.0.0 or blank. So, I am not able to login to the modem unless I remove the modem connection. Please let me know if I am doing anything wrong here.

Here are a few more details:
Output of ipconfig: http://pastebin.com/Zr9Eb7L7

A:Using dlink D2750U Wifi Modem/Router As a Wifi Router

Hey Narain. The D-Link unit you have appears to be a combo unit (modem and wireless router) since it connects straight to the RJ-11 phone line. This unit won't work with an ISP that provides service by way of coax cable. The D-Link will work if you want to use DSL, but you need a cable service compatible modem or combo modem/router if you use cable service.

Hi all, there are so many problems report about WiFi issues on Windows 10, but I did not really find mine. I'm running the HP ProBook 470 with the Atheros 9000 series WiFi adapter. It worked fine with Windows 7 Professional, 64 Bit. A couple of weeks ago I decided to upgrade to Windows 10. Everything works fine, except WiFi. I can connect to the WLAN and the signal strength and network speed is perfect, but after some time (minutes or even hours) it suddenly drops down and my WLAN router even states disconnected, but it will repair by itself after some time. I can force the "self-repair-speed" by disabling and enabling WiFi again. But, this is no good solution, WiFi must work reliable all the time when not moving around, and it work perfectly with Windows 7. I hoped that Microsoft and the hardware vendors do manage the drivers after one year of Windows 10 release, but seems not to be so. I already installed the latest driver from HP download site, but this is already one year old, and it was the same like Windows / Microsoft did while Windows Upgrade. So no change to be expected. Before I downgrade again to Windows 7, what else can I do? Are there some other drivers which might interfere with WLAN and might not be up to date? (Besides the WLAN driver I did not update others manually as I did rely to the Windows upgrade process.) Volker

I have a Probook 4530s that had some catastropic problems and I was forced to reinstall my Operating System and the various drivers to get the machine back to operational. For a while it kept getting stuck at the Starting Microsoft screen and wouldn't load further. I finally got passed that (but I still haven't installed the switchable graphics drivers for the AMD driver).  I am currently connecting to the internet via a wired connection. I noticed my wifi doesn't show up, and in the HP Connection Manager it says the wifi has been disabled in the bios, but I am unable to reenable it in the bios as it is greyed out. I also wonder which driver set I should be installing for my wireless ethernet as it shows a bunch of options for my computer model on the driver support page? I do know my wired ethernet works and that driver is using a Realtek driver. I have other issues but I'm slowly tying to get my machine back to operational. I appreciate any help or advice. Thanks,Eric

Hello!I've just bought used (but mostly disassembled) 6470B. It's in very good shape (after cleaning... yuck!) and I see it becoming my main machine. However it's lacking essential components. I want to be it as modern as possible, since it's going to be in use as long as possible. Problem is HP documentation is wildly confusing and often contradicting itself. Will it work with: - Core i7-3632QM 35W Quad core CPU? I've found it's officially compatible with I7-3820QM (which is surprisingly 45W part, but extremely hard to come by in my area). I'd really love quad core CPU, it speeds up my work so much. - HP LT2523 LTE mPCIe modem (it's listed as a spare part for this laptop, despite only hs2350 and un2430 being listed on modem support)? - Intel 7260-AC WiFi/BT card? Previous model I had had WIFI whitelisting, this model probably doesn't, but I'd like to check. - Keyboard with a trackpoint? This requires some explaining: Originally it came with really badly dirty keyboard (not spilled, just unsavagably greased, like doritos mixed with butter massaged into it), and it lacked the trackpoint. Only spares I can find cheaply come with it - will it work (does it have the connector), or if not, will the keyboard still work? - FHD or HD+ IPS display, if there are compatible spares (with correct cable, of course)? I understand that half of it isn't officially  supported, but I'll take the risk, as long as it works. Thanks in advance!

Here is the Service Manual: Manual There are two Intel motherboards. One with the QM77 chipset and one with the HM76 chipset. The top listed processor is the i7-3540M. It is listed as a Quad Core but I think in reality it has 2 cores. The smart answer is that you cannot use the i7-3632QM but it may work, particularly if you have the model with the QM77 chipset.  The WWAN modem you ask about is listed in the parts list so will work.  You can only use the WLAN cards listed on p. 38 and it has to be one with an HP Part number.  There are keyboard options with and without the trackpoint so the motherboard is made to accept either one. See the picture on p. 92. There should be a zif connector for the pointer stick right next to the bigger zif for the main keyboard cable.  Looks like the best screen is a 1600 x 900 (HD+).  14.0-in, LED, FLT, HD+, AntiGlare display panel 686047-001 http://www.ebay.com/itm/14-0-1600x900-LED-Screen-for-HP-ELITEBOOK-FOLIO-9470M-LCD-LAPTOP-686047-001-... It's a 40-pin LED screen and likely a FHD version in the same form factor, even an IPS, would work but never sure.  Post back if you have any more questions.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Hi: You should be able to...Just make sure you connect by ethernet cable so W10 is activated before the deadline. Then I recommend you get the Intel Centrino® Advanced-N 6230 wlan card...HP Part number 636672-001, listed in chapter 3, page 25 of the service manual.  That is the only card that I see on the list that should work on W10. NOTE:  You MUST get that specific card, and it MUST have the HP part number on it or it will not work. I usually go on eBay, query by the HP part number and buy a card that shows the part number in the eBay listing photograph.  But an easier thing to do would be to make the W10 installation DVD by using the media creation tool at the link below, run the upgrade from the windows desktop, select do not check for updates and W10 will bypass any hardware checks and install with the atheros card in place. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 I doubt the atheros card will work after W10 is installed, but you shouldn't have to remove it just to install W10. There is a W10 driver for that card but I think the hardware version of the card your notebook has is too old to work with the driver. This package contains the driver installation package for the Qualcomm Atheros AR9000-Series wireless LAN Controller in the supported models and operating systems.  ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp71501-72000/sp71858.exe OPERATING SYSTEM(S):Microsoft Windows 10 32Microso... Just recently my HP ProBook 4520s, running Windows 7 32-bit, has had trouble connecting to the internet through WiFi. I've been reading into it and looking around the net, but to no avail. It shows my home network and connects, but with limited access (no access to the net in my case).

I did a system restore in hopes that it would fix the problem, and I got access for all of 30 seconds before it went back to limited connectivity. I manually updated the network card drivers, and still nothing. It's leading me to believe that its my router blocking access (Netgear WNDR3700). I haven't had a problem up until recently and its only with the laptop. My desktop PC, game consoles, and television can all still access the internet, with the desktop connecting through WiFi as well. I checked the router logs and noticed several DoS attacks and was thinking this may have something to do with it (and possibly laptop being infected?).

Hi, You have a couple of options as I see it please try these steps might help you to fix your issue. 1) Disconnect the Battery & Adapter then press & hold the power button on Notebook for 30 seconds then turn on the unit and check if the Wireless light turns on. 2) Go to Device manager then uninstall the wireless drivers and restart the unit and check if the light turns on. 3) Please update the Bios & Wireless driver from HP website. 4) If you are comfortable reseating the wireless card which will be on the back panel off your unit you could try this steps as well.  Let us know how it goes!  ****Click the White Kudos star to say thanks********Please mark Accept As Solution if it solves your problem****

Hello Guys,

I am having trouble with my wireless connection. It was working fine till a couple of days back and then started acting up. Let me explain the problem in detail.

System connects to the router. It shows full signal. After 10-15 seconds the wireless gets disconnected. After that the behaviour is quite varied. Sometimes the router itself is not recongnized. Sometimes the router is recognized but the system doesnt connect. If I force it to then it again says cannot connect to a hidden network. After a while maybe 4-5 mins later it recongnizes and tries connecting again sometimes it succeeds sometimes it doesnt.

My System Specifications are given below.

1. Samsung Ultrabook Series S - Model NP530U3C-A01UK
2. Processsor - Intel COre 5-3317U CPU @1.70 Ghz
3. Windows 7 Hope Premium - 64 Bit OS
4. Wireless Network Adaptor - Intel Centrino Advaced N-6235
5. ROuter - Thomson
6. 6GB RAM

A Little bit about my Home network
There are 5 devices connected usually. My Wife's PC which is a Dell Inspiron and runs on Windows 7 Home premium, My Ipad, 2 of our Smart Phones and My PC. Every other device currently works fine except mine. So looks like the problem is with my system rather than the router or network provider.

Remedies I have tried and failed
1. Updated the Network Driver by downloading and installing it from Intel Website
2. From the ROuter side manually changed the channel to see if that has an effect
3. FLushed my DNS, tried to release and ren... Read more

A:Connecting to Wireless Router keeps connecting and disconnecting

I hate to say it, but since you have done everything I would have done, its possible the wireless adapter is broken/not functioning correctly. Is the product still under warranty? Especially since you stated that other devices connect just fine.
So its probably not the router.
The only other thing I can think of to try would be to buy another wireless router and test it with that.
If you have no problems, something is amiss.
You could also set your router back to factory defaults and try again.

I'm trying to use a router to establish a wireless connection with a machine running XP Home Edition, Service Pack 2. I've connected successfully in the past with other machines (including now, as I write this), so it doesn't seem to be the router or the modem that's the problem. What's more, it's not XP, since there's another machine that can connect fine.

So, I'm stumped. I've contacted both my ISP and the manufacturer of the router, but not much help there.

Any thoughts? The machine sees the wireless connection fine, will attempt to connect and will actually say that it was successful in connection -- but there's no access to the internet and the status is actually limited or no connectivity.

Hello,

I have an 8 port "wired" router from Linksys that I have been using in conjunction to a wireless access point which had been plugged into one of the open ports on the wired router. Lately I have been having connection issues with the WAP so I decided it may be time to upgrade. Not thinking about it, I picked up a new Linksys E1000 wiress router (as opposed to a WAP) and, after a lengthy support call with Linksys, got that up and running.

So I have operability for both wired and wireless devices, however I have noticed a substantial slow down on my wired devices. I also just upped the plan with my ISP to increase my bandwidth which I see on the wired PCs but not on the wireless which seem less. Would a WAP be faster than a wireless router by nature?

Any ideas? Thanks in advance

A:Slow wireless after connecting Linkys wirless router to Linksys wired router

Have you made sure you have the latest firmware for the wireless router? If you updated the firmware be sure to reset it to factory default settings and reconfigure it.

What speeds do you get with a test such as speedtest.net with a connection to the wired router? With an ethernet connection to the wireless router? With a wireless connection?

I have been trying to find a way to connect, forward the signal, recieve the signal from my Verizon Fios wireless router up to my WGT624 V3 Netgear router.

Is there a way that I can modify my wirless port on my Netgear to recieve a signal wirelessly from my Verizon Wireless router?

My Neighbor did it once with another wireless router, but he can not remember how he did it. I am thinking it had something to do with the Firmware.

If anyone can help me with this that would be great.

I'm basically trying to push the wireless signal from my Verizon router in my basement, up to my wireless Netgear router which is recieving the signal on the main level so that I can plug my wired (non wireless) laptop into the ethernet port which is receiving wireless signal from the Verizon router in the basement in order to gain access to the internet.

Can this be done with the equipment listed above and or some additional firmware and configuration?

Thank you for all your assistance on this in advance.

I have Qwest/CenturyLink DSL, and recently replaced the Actiontec M1000 modem which crapped out after 5 years of service. Replaced it with a Netgear DM111PSP v2 router/modem. Now I cannot get either of my two routers, the Linksys WRT54G or WRT160N V2 to broadcast wireless internet. I've spent the most time on the WRT160N. It will broadcast a wireless signal, but devices that attempt to connect to the internet time out while "obtaining IP address". BTW, I just happen to have two wireless routers on hand, I only need one to work.

I can get internet through the hard wire connection. I have the Netgear modem hooked up to the "internet" port of the WRT160N router, and the computer is connected to one of the four ethernet ports on the back of the router. I can access both router and modem setup pages using this setup. The Netgear modem is set up for DHCP server, PPPoA encapsulation, and gets its DNS address dynamically from the ISP. The WRT160N is also set up for automatic DHCP configuration. These are the settings given by running each set up wizard, and this has set me up for some DHCP conflicts.

I think that setting up a dual modem/router in transparent bridging mode (PPPoE) in theory turns off the DHCP, allowing the WRT160N to handle DHCP, but I have no luck even getting my hard-wired internet connection to work if I switch from PPPoA to PPPoE mode. Even if I cut the WRT160N out of the loop and connect the computer direct to the DM111PSP. No internet,... Read more

I recently got qwest DSL and I configured my Wireless to work and accept my wireless MAC Address, but when I plug it into the WAN slot in the Linksys router it doesn't work. I went to linksys site and did their configuration which is changing the router LAN IP to 192.168.0.1, then power cycling, but this doesn't help. I cannot access the internet still. Both the modem/router and the router are operating DHCP, but if I disable the modem/router, I cannot access the wireless function, and if I disable the DHCP on my Linksys router, I cannot obtain an IP from the modem router via the linksys router.

This is frustrating lol.

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I am looking to replace my tired Linksys WRT54G router that is about 10 years old. I love the router, and its even better with DD-WRT on it, but I'm starting to have troubles with the wifi dropping all the connects for a couple seconds when running all my wireless devices. I have 3 smart phones, 2 tablets, 1 Chromecast, a smart TV, and Roku + a laptop or 3 in my house right now, and it seems like its getting to be a bit much for it.
I have had to completely re-flash the firmware twice this year to get the wifi working again, so I'm thinking its time for replacement.
I have been thinking about just getting the new WRT54GL for $50, but I'm also thinking it might be a good idea to upgrade the wifi technology past wireless G .
I'm wondering if my Tablet (Nexu 9), and our smartphones (Razr HD Max) along with the Chromecast will take advantage of the new wireless standards and higher speeds or not? If they will can someone recomend a decent wireless router that takes DD-WRT nicely in the sub-$100 range? Thanks!

A:Looking for new Wifi Router - Will Tablet/Smartphone take advantage of new wifi Standards?

I been programming in Android/Linux since 2010 and there is code that supports VHT is Very High Throughput. Right now the standards are HT is High Throughput .

As for DD-WRT firmware is like your overclocking your router pushing it beyond the OEM limits. I use to use DD-WRT but had quit many years ago since the routers that used that firmware would fail too much.

So best to buy a better business type enterprise router wired then you can use WiFi router as AP or just get WiFi AP(access point). To me WiFi Router is also Wired Router, but to use just a wired router and use WiFi AP through a switch is better. If one or the other goes you can easy replace them. Where as if the WiFi Router fails you would need to replace it.

If you really want to use DD-WRT then Look at Buffalo WiFi Routers some come pre-installed with DD-WRT on them. Frankly you really don't need DD-WRT today because newer routers or WiFi routers are much better built and offer much more power NPU = network processor units and 128, 256, 512, 1GB of RAM some have Dual Cores.

I was looking at getting a wireless router (either a D-Link 615 or a Netgear Rangemax WNR1000) and I'm not exactly sure how to set it up. I have a BEC Technologies 7402 TM (NOT GTM) adsl wired modem/router that my telephone company gave me when I switched to DSL. There are 4 LAN ports on the back of the modem/router, a line port that my telephone cable is connected to, and a console port that I don't use. 2 of the LAN ports are being used. One is connected to my cable box, the other has an ethernet cord that runs halfway around my house, through a wall and into a wall jack that my desktop computer is connected to. I only want to use the wireless router to connect to my Wii and one laptop, I would like to keep my desktop connection wired. I had previously tried to connect to xbox live by connecting my xbox to one of the LAN ports but I could never get it to work, so now I just switch the ethernet cords between my xbox and computer in the wall jack whenever I want to use one or the other. Will I be able to connect a wireless router to one of the LAN ports and receive a signal or will I have to connect the wireless router to the wall jack that my desktop is hooked to, and run the connection through the router? I've never setup a wireless network before so I'm a little new to this subject.

I have a sagem 3304 wifi modem router provided by the telecoms company. it has a limited wifi range and in my experience of wifi it also has frequent dropouts/connection problems. we connect the desktop pc to it by ethernet and that's just fine.

we also were given (by a 3rd party) a belkin n1 wireless router (the model without modem) and would like to try it out to be the wifi router. The idea is to connect it by ethernet to the sagem and place it in a more central part of the property. I reckon about 15m of ethernet cable. we would disable the wifi on the sagem. had we been given the belkin model with internal modem, this would not be an issue and we would not need to use the sagem at all - that is not meant to sound ungrateful!!

can anyone see any pitfalls with this? or if it is do-able, any recommendations re:configs?

Yes, adding a wifi router to one of the ports will set it as a node on the dhcp server{modem} and if there is a conflict in ip address, usually will change it to a 10.0.0.1

Hi All:
I have a Linksys VPN Router at home set up to connect to an FTP site which is a server at my office. If I connect my laptop hardwired to the VPN router I can connect to the FTP no prob. If I try to connect using my wireless network router (Netgear) whose WAN side is connected to the LAN side of the VPN I can access the internet which proves that connection is OK but cannot access the FTP.

I know this is because the VPN FTP is looking for an address on my laptop which matches the VPN routers IP address. Problem is I can't figure out how to make the LAN side of the Wireless the same as the LAN side of the VPN. Inherently, I don't think this is possible as they are in effect 2 different networks.

So, my question is, Is there a way to do this? Can I make the wireless router more like an access point so I can make the hops necessary to use VPN through the wireless?

Thanks in advance!

Hey guys I'm a bit of a networking noob so I'm wondering if this setup I have will work in getting all my computers to share our home internet...

Basically my current setup in my basement this:

ethernet cable modem

Wired DLink Router---------->main desktop+2nd desktop
Pretty standard...But now we want a laptop and another desktop on our top floor because someone else moved in. LUCKILY before we finished the basement I had another ethernet cable going from the router to the Wii on the main floor. We don't play that anymore so I was wondering if it was possible to buy a wireless router for the main floor, connect it wired to the basement router, and than use it wirelessly so that it extends to the top floor? Meanwhile, the router in the basement still connects to the two computers? It'd look like this.

Hi all,

My Netopia Router from SBC just crapped out on me early last week. So I decided to buy a router from a local electronics store. I already had a SpeedStream Modem, but I have multiple PCs in the house, so I need to 'route' the connection to other PCs.

Anywho, I went to the store today and picked up a Linksys DSL/Cable Router (Wired) with 4 port switch (#BEFSR41). I hooked it up, followed the CD Wizard, and plugged in the 2 PCs on this level (I have 3 Levels in my house). The PCs on this level worked.

Now, I have a D-Link wireless router since there are wireless notebooks/PCs upstairs. Before I had the Linksys, I just plugged that router into my Netopia and it worked fine. Now when I plugged it into this new Linksys router, it doesn't work.

What am I doing wrong?

All PCs are running Win XP if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance.

A:Connecting a Wireless Router to a Wired Router

Connecting two SOHO broadband routers together.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, I'd assign the secondary router 192.168.0.254 as it's IP address.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router.

Connect from the primary router's LAN port to one of the LAN ports on the secondary router. If there is no uplink port and neither of the routers have auto-sensing ports, use a cross-over cable. Leave the WAN port unconnected!

Actually my wifi adapter can catch all other wifi signal except my wifi router.

A:my notebook wifi adapter don't get my wifi router

There are several resons.1. The wifi signal might be too weak at the point where the computer is.2. Other device radiation/signals might be blocking it.3. Your router signal might be hodden (check EWS of router).4. Signal broadcasting might have been turned off on router. Since other signals are found on the computer, there shouldnt be a issue with your couputer.

Hello, I am a bit of a hard time with 2 routers on one network and unfortunately as things stand now they both have to be there. So I just got ADSL and the only modem option available to me was one with a 4-port wired router, I hooked that up into my existing network of about 9 computers (5 laptops and 4 desktops) which is connected by another 4-port WiFi router.

I started out with my only goal of hooking 3 of these computers to the internet after I got the DSL by some MAC filtering configured in the WiFi router. But, having the DSL modem/router has created another issue. I am using 2 separate IP gateways for both the routers which are in the same subset, I can connect to both of them from all my machines. The problem is I don't have any control over which computer connects to what router. I am trying to avoid setting each PC up with a static IP that needs internet access.

Here is my setup in more detail. My ADSL router is 192.168.1.254 and my WiFi router is 192.168.1.111 and both have the subnet 255.255.255.0. My ADSL connection has dynamic IP and the modem/router is connected into a LAN port on the WiFi router. I have tried disabling DHCP on the modem/router and changed my WiFi router IP to that of the modem (which was counter productive) to no avail. Someone mentioned MAC address cloning but I am not sure if it will work in this setup. Since I configured this I am seeing quite a few IP conflicts, which are probably my fault as I didn't check when I was setting... Read more

Hello one and all,
I am sincerely hoping someone can assist with my little networking problem as i'm tearing my hair out now..

Here at work we have a Vigor Modem/Router hosting our connection to the world. It was originally on DHCP & the 4 computers & 2 printers found their own IP addresses without problem.

We added a Linksys router via ethernet (to a lan port not the wan) in another area of the yard. This was fine also on DHCP and connecting wirelessly from a laptop or mobile phone was a doddle.

Then our oh so wonderful IT geek decided to put the Vigor on a Static IP along with all the computers connected to it. This has some how cut off the wifi capability of the Linksys router now.

It is basically acting as a hub for two laptops and nothing else.

In simplistic terms with some detail what settings need changing on the Linksys if any?

The Vigors internal IP is 192.168.1.1
Linksys is 192.168.1.4
both on subnet 255.255.255.0

I have been advised to set the Linksys to a static IP on the Internet Connection option but what set of figures do i need for that??

Fingers crossed...

Stonkin

This is my deal......

I have a Cable modem going into a Linksys router which goes to a Netgear switch and to a Belkin wireless router.

Everything works as far as internet sharing......my PC hooked up to the wireless router connects to the internet and the PC's coming from the Linksys router and switch connect to the internet so that all good.

Question 1: I want to share files etc between my PCs but the PC's on the Router and Switch can't see the PC hardwired to the Belkin Wireless router. They are all using the "Workgroup" name.

Question 2: Even the PC's which can see themselves when trying to share info. are being asked for a "User Name" and "Password." What "User name" and "Password's" are those. I never set up any passwords on my PC. When my PC's turn on they go right into windows w/o having to type any passwords.

** One of the PC's is using Vista ... the others are using XP Prof.

Any help or links to how to configure my system?

Thanks,

Hello,

I have a wireless adsl router in preparation for broadband arriving in our area soon (long story), and have some questions:

I have a laptop with wifi card and want to setup a home network with this, and my PC (plugged-in via LAN cable to the router).. laptop is XP, PC is Win2K
I can't seem to get this to work. one minute the PC can 'see' the laptop (in network neighbourhood) and then the other way round, but I can never access shared directories on either... is there a good guide somewhere to set this up?

Also, shouldn't I be able to use the router from the PC as if it were a wifi card?
i.e. on the laptop, once the wifi card is plugged in, it displays all wifi networks in the area and their signal strength etc.... how can I do this using the router/PC??

With the laptop I can connect to our neighbours wifi router and use their bradband connection, but I want to do the same from the PC.. is that possible?

Thanks in advance all..

(P.S. router is a D-Link DSL-604+)

Well, you or somebody else at your house is going to have to supply a bit more information about the WiFi set-up being used.

1) Name and brand of the wireless router or wireless access point being used to share the Internet connection.

2) The SSID of the wireless router or wireless access point and if it is set to broadcast the SSID.

3) What, if any kind of wireless encryption is being used and the key or pass phrase for that encryption. You do not need to tell us the actual key or pass phrase.

4) If the wireless router or wireless access is using any kind of MAC filtering to limit which computers and other hardware can connect to the wireless router or wireless access.

A:Help connecting to wifi

Hey Ryan. Is this a laptop or desktop. If it's a desktop, it likely doesn't have a wireless adapter that will allow connection to you wireless network. If it's a laptop, right click on My Computer,Properties, select Device Manager tab, then look for Network Adapters and click once on the + and see if you see any wireless adapter listed and if it is enabled. You can enable/disable a wireless adapter by right clicking and toggling between enable/disable. In either case, it probably needs quite a bit of work to get it up to date, and assuming everything else seems ok, I myself would start from scratch and reformat the drive and reinstall XP (assuming you have an XP disk for it) since any maintenance programs are just as old. If you're not sure about this, tell us the make and model number of this pc.

Not only am I a WiFi newbie, I'm also a Windows 7 newbie as well. I learned to use computers on Mac/Apple computers. This just adds to my dilemma and confusion.

OK, here's where I'm at right now.

I have an HP laptop (windows 7 x 64 bit) that I've been trying to get to connect to several local WiFi hotspots. I've only been successful at connecting one time. This was at a local BestBuy store and the internet speed was next to non-existent. The sales person stated it was most likely because alot of their in-store demo-products were also connected to the same WiFi and it created a drag on the internet speed.

In an effort to connect to other free WiFi hotspots in my vicinity I built a "Long Range WiFi Antenna." It works like gangbusters regardless of which direction I aim it. And many of the hotspots I'm able to pick up are nationally known Free-WiFi-Hotspots.

The problem is that no matter how strong of a signal I'm receiving, I can't connect to the internet via any of these hotspots. I'll get a message on my laptop telling me that it can't connect to the chosen hotspot.

There has to be something that I'm missing here. My Mac computers will work but, I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong with my windows based laptop.

My "Long Range WiFi" antenna set up is a combination of a C. Crane Super-USB-WiFi-Antenna and an old Dish-Network parabolic dish plugged directly into the USB port on my laptop.

The combined number of both the Private and F... Read more

I have two wifi APs (let's say AP-1 and AP-2) and I sometimes have to switch from one to the other. The AP-1 is my main AP so it is always set with "Connect Automatically" for boot up. But, a lot of the time it does not connect to either AP on boot.

When I need to use AP-2, I select AP-1 and click "Disconnect."

I select AP-2 and Click "Connect" leaving "Connect Automatically" un-checked.

After using AP-2, I again select it and click "Disconnect."

Then select AP-1 and make sure the "Connect automatically" is checked, then Connect.

At the next reboot, about 40% of the times it connects to AP-1 but the rest of the time it connects to neither even though "Connect Automatically" is still checked..

Anyone have some thoughts on how to force this so that it always connects to AP-1 on booting up?

my conclusion is some part is failing maybe but what? it is really odd that i can connect to the wifi router as my other computer does but not load anything. (it kinda loaded half of the google home page once)
