Multiple Lenovo E50-00 desktops freezing

Q: Multiple Lenovo E50-00 desktops freezing

I purchase 2 of these desktops at the same time and have been experiencing random lock-ups on both of them over the last few months. I have updated the BIOS, done all Windows updates and have just recently upgraded them both to Windows 10......but the freezing is still evident. I would say that on average one of the 2 desktops freezes every 3-4 days and there is no pattern to what the computer is doing when it decides to lock up. When the lock-up occurs I am still able to see the screen but the mouse and keyboard inputs no longer register and I'm unable to change the Caps Lock status on the keyboard either. The only way to restore service is to either hold down the power button for 5 seconds or unplug the base unit. I have seen a few others who have posted online with similar issues but no mention of a resolution.

I have a K450e that I purchased in June and that I love but ever since WIN 10 was installed it locks up -- the keyboard and mouse do not work, there is no way to get a response from the system. The only thing I can do then is power the machine off the hard way. HELP! Help!

I have attached a second monitor to my laptop which runs Windows 7, however, I need to set different resolutions for different monitors, because the display does not fit to fill the screen on both monitors.

It is also noted that the display is replicated, and I would like to have the effect of having different desktops e.g. being able to use different applications such as debugging code on one monitor on an IDE such as Visual Studio, and, viewing the browser on the other monitor.

Currently it does not seem possible since the behavior seems to be that the same resolution is replicated on both monitors.

Are more than two monitors supported?

A:Working with multiple monitors does not allow multiple desktops

Set it to extended mode instead of duplicate, then you can use both independently.

...I was going to type up what I want to do, but I think that a post from this July sums it up pretty well. Hopefully someone will reply to it this time:

"I am using the 15" TFT as the primary display, and the 21" TV for games...this is working fine as long as I switch exclusively to the relevent display and work from there...e.g switch to TV then launch a game...

However I'd like to be able to configure the setup so that the main display remains on the 15" and I can launch games from here and they then go to the 21" TV, while the main windows desktop remains on the TFT...and if i'm being greedy, it would be good if i could somehow lock the controls to each display, so that I could keep a game on display2, while using display 1...e.g a game is playing and doesnt minimise the moment I open a window on the moment I have been unable to achieve this, the majority of software works fine, I just drag teh dialog box and expand it on the display I want...

But the likes of Vice City REFUSES to maximise to the second desktop...I'm using Hyrdravision and there is no individual application setting configurable for the likes of Vice City...does anyone know of any generic multiple display software which may be better than Hydra?"

I didn't post that the first time, but it is pretty much exactly the same thing I need to do now. Does anyone know if it's possible?

A:multiple desktops ?

Hello Paascal, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might give the free program Desktops a try to see if it may work for you for this.

Desktops allows you to organize your applications on up to four virtual desktops. Read email on one, browse the web on the second, and do work in your productivity software on the third, without the clutter of the windows you’re not using. After you configure hotkeys for switching desktops, you can create and switch desktops either by clicking on the tray icon to open a desktop preview and switching window, or by using the hotkeys.

Hope this helps,

Another missing feature from Windows 8 is multiple desktops configuration (If I am wrong, people will soon put me right!)

I downloaded the Sysinternals Desktops.exe Desktops which works fine under XP and Windows 7, but is a partial failure under Windows 8

Although there are 4 desktops, all but the first have a black background which is not editable, and is dead - no mouse right click menu, no placement of files, no hot corners etc.

There is a transparent glass taskbar to which you can add toolbars, which if the folders contain programs or documents, the pop up menus work well, launching programs and documents. However the Taskbar is dead as far as icons, and the time is there, but not visible until the pointer hovers over where it should be, or it is clicked, when the set time and date applet appears. It is possible to drag items from the toolbars onto the taskbar and lose them in the favourites bar, which eventually I found under links>> chevrons, and the taskbar right-click menu is there with taskmanager to enable the launching of programs in the desktop.

Altogether a weird experience.

Windows does not offer that feature. I would love to see it implemented myself. That is a compelling feature of Linux for sure. Microsoft does have the virtual desktop manager in power toys and there are third party solutions to virtual desktops.

Hey everyone,

Could someone suggest a multiple desktop program that will give me a clean 2nd desktop (meaning that it doesnt keep the same icons and everything that are on the main desktop, if that makes any sense).

A:Multiple Desktops

the easiest thing to do would be to get a video card that supports multiple monitors. all you have to do is plug a second monitor into it and you are good to go. it will give you an extension of your desktop that can be used in exactly the same way, but if you want it clean, you simply dont put anything on it.

I hope no one thinks I am being a little lazy but I have a few questions about multiple and simultaneous desktop usage with regards to windows 7 and server 2008.

At our workplace at the moment we are using a separate company to host some kind of cloud service that lets IT students (studying the basics of MS Office products) and company staff to log in to a remote desktop from any PC. Goodness knows how much the company are paying for this service but I would imagine that it would be about the same as employing someone full time.

We actually have a server with Server 2008 running on it but I have not had a really good look at it yet because of time constraints. It is just sitting there gathering dust because the previous person running the department didn’t seem to have a clue how to manage the PCs on the network.

I know how to get a remote desktop running on a computer using a windows 7 operating system but you can only have 1 user account running at the same time. As soon as you attempt to remotely connect to another account on that host computer from another computer the original remote client is disconnected. That would obviously be no good if we wanted several people accessing those accounts from various computers.

Is this what server 2008 can do? In other words, can server 2008 be used to host multiple password protected desktops on remote computers on a LAN simultaneously?

We need some kind of arrangement like this because students come in on different days and ... Read more

A:Multiple/ simultaneous remote desktops

I don't know everything you need to do this. But at a minimum, you'll need to purchase licensing for terminal services. By default, all the Windows Server platforms support 2 concurrent connections. You'll have to purchase the appropriate license for the number of concurrent users you'll want to support. I think the other part is you'll also need to purchase the version of MS Office or the licensing which allows it to be used with terminal services. Not sure on this.

Not sure whether a query or some shared insight here.  Are you tapping the value of MDs or is it a matter of realising the value the Feature can be?
The ability to have Multiple Desktops can be a real asset and serve you well & be very kewl & helpful... helpful in the sense of organization & structure... can keep things neat & tidy OR not cluttered, not homogenised, not w/ a plethora of varied, unrelated stuff all clustered in one same place.
Can have a browser window in every one.  Can have various APPs & or applications in each one.  Can scan & select everything across all Desktops via Alt+Tab.  The Taskbar is accessible in every one.  And the Taskbar can display what is going on w/ all Desktops or each respective Desktop individually.
Anyway, some may not realise how the concept can be make things pleasant, slick & sensible.  Related things can be grouped in one Desktop not, w/ anything that, really, does belong (there).  1 maybe a sort of basic 'hub'... Home Page, E-mail, Skype, Calendar, Weather... another all fun, entertainment, recreation... another for hobby interests... one for business concerns... it is only limited by one's imagination.  And one can create an limitless number.
I have used the Feature, peculiar to Windows 10 ever since last September and it sure beats having everything ALL in one same Desktop, all on the same screen.  It affords the "A place for ... Read more

A:Making (Good) Use of Multiple Desktops(?)

I plan on using that feature on Windows 10 once I get it, but I'll only use it when I want to accomplish certain tasks. Let's say that I work on a fix for a thread on Sysnative, I always end up opening multiple Windows Explorer window, web browser and other programs. Rather than have all of them clustered with my other opened programs, I'll dedicate a desktop to it. Same for when it comes to programming: I would have my web browser, IDE, documentation, etc. open in one desktop and I would have one desktop that is casual for when I want to take a break. Once I'll have learned how to use the key combinaisons to switch from one desktop to another fast, it'll be easy.

Is it possible to enable multiple desktops in Vista...???... Also can I have seperate desktop backgrounds on each monitor (2 or more)....??? I have no problem doing this with XP.

A:Multiple Desktops in Vista Ultimate x64

If you mean having both screens enabled? Well, for some reason, it's not automatic. You have to enable it yourself. Just go the the advanced settings tab in the customizing window. Here, I have attached a screen and put a red rectangle to show which checkbox to check so that it comes on the secondary monitor as well. Just click extend the desktop and it will work.

As for putting different backgrounds on different monitors, I don't know how to do it directly in Vista, so I use a program called Display Fusion, which I find pretty good, and you don't need to run it everytime the computer is on to keep the different wallpapers.

So, here's hoping someone has a bit of experience with this subject.

Basically my question is about the capabilities of using a single monitor via the virtual desktops feature on certain games. Occasionally I'd like to be able to use a single monitor for my games, or have to as it doesn't scale well to three. So is it possible to set up virtual desktops to use a single monitor for a specific programme so that it will full-screen 1920x1080 to one monitor, still having the other two monitors active with various other windows open?

Hey All,

I'm hoping someone here can help me - I'll try and be specific as I can, however though I generally know my way around a computer I'm by no means an expert.

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium, 32-bit SP1

Okay. Onto the problem. Somehow I've managed to create two (or more?) desktops (not just shortcut icons or copies). I don't know How, or When, so experimenting with "restore" times is kind of a moot point.

One I assume is at the regular path, accessible through "my computer" on the left hand side under "folders". I can't get it's exact path because if I right-click on it and go to "properties" it opens up "Control Panel>Personalization". Opening the "desktop" via that path shows the icons/shortcuts I currently have on my "visual desktop". ("Visual Desktop = the desktop I see on my screen). If I add a new folder to my "Visual Desktop", this is where it shows up, not in any of the following locations.

Another one is accessible through my user account name after I open up "computer" under desktop (path: C:\Users\*username). The files shown here are various shortcuts, none of which are actually on my "visual desktop".

Yet another one - the one that brought this entire problem to my attention - is accessible under my videos folder. Anyway, if I open the "Desktop" via this path, it shows one shortcut as well as one folder, both of which are ... Read more

Hello Lara,

First off, I had to report the post for personal info, as well as the movie listing. If you don't remove it, a mod will.

Second, you mentioned a second desktop. I am a little confused. Do you mean that you literally have a second desktop location? I know that the desktop is located under your user name, for example C:\Users\Lordbob75\Desktop.

There might also be another location, but it is under system files I believe. Can you describe your problem a little better perhaps?

We appreciate the amount of info given in this post though.

As for a solution, try putting in your Vista disk and clicking "Repair"" This is NOT a reinstall, it merely fixes registry errors. This might clear some of that up.

Sorry if this is brought up earlier, didn't succeed searching the forum.

What I'm looking for is the functionality in Vista similar to spaces in osx leopard, see video here for an example:

I find it a bit odd that this is not included in vista.. or have I ignored it??
Probably not because I was able to find a third party app on the web; Vista Virtual Desktop Manager at Vista Virtual Desktop Manager - Home

But unfortenatly it didn't work too well on my computer, and anyway I'm really not a fan of adding extra apps for functions that should be core functionality (read: bloating and conflicts with other programs..)

Does anyone know something about this?
Any chance this kind of functionality will be included in SP1?

For the past couple of months, the mousepad has been really glitchy. It is almost impossible to use now. The cursor keeps freezing and only hitting enter or the fn +f6 key helps is unfreeze temporarily (as in for a couple of minutes). Apart from that, any webpage or file I open, the screen automatically goes to the bottom of it. This is obviously connected to the mouse pad issue somehow. I tried reinstalling the drivers from the Lenovo website and it didn't help. I checked the hardware using the Synaptics Pointing Device Pressure Graph and Moodmap. Everything seems to be working well. This makes me believe it's a software issue. Please help me fix this.

I've been experiencing a lot of weird quirks with my Yoga 2, and I'm not sure whether Windows 8.1, my specific combination or drivers, or a hardware issue is to blame.  The most consistent, and annoying issue, is the laptop constantly freezes after putting it to sleep.  It is almost transparent -- I never see the blue screen, because I've already closed the laptop.  I just open it up, the Lenovo logo pops up, and it turns out my computer has rebooted.  The windows event log confirms that a critical error has occurred. I've performed a factory reset and it still occurs.  Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Hello 8-forums.

I'm posting on behalf of my little brother since he isn't the sharpest when it comes to computers. Today his computer started freezing and crashing out of nowhere at completely random times. I couldn't pinpoint an activity he was doing which might have caused it.

On top of that a pop-up kept coming up on his screen about his screen driver having crashed and has been restored. I happen to have the same laptop and I've had this problem for a week or 2 too, but nothing happens when it shows up on my screen (unlike his, where it crashes the computer). His screen now also has blue matrix-like lines all over his screen as a result of todays crashes.

I asked him to send the Zip-file from the DM log collector tool. He only had a BSoD once and he didn't notice the error code. The rest were freezes (forced to restart) and crashes (no BSoD screen).

Hope you can help find a solution to my brothers problem.

Hi Snejxjens,

Welcome to the 8forums.

Please remove some files to increase the free space to at least 10-15%.
Every partition needs at least 10-15% free space so Windows can do its thing in the background.
Less free space could cause BSOD's

Please remove / disable items from the startup in taskmanager
These programs could interfere with the boot process giving you trouble and increase the boot time.

Please uninstall everything of Nvidia using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from the manufacturer.

Hello,I have a Lenovo z50-75 which just lately has been prone to crashing. This crash freezes my laptop and displays coloured lines all over my screen, forcing a hard shutdown by holding the power button. This crash will happen whenever I update the graphics card drivers, usually during the process. This crash can also happen randomly as shown in the attached picture where I had just installed a clean version of windows 10 and processed to reinstall my steam games, but oh no bam it crashed. I am running latest AMD drivers, using drivers from the lenovo website will crash still. I cannot perform any tasks on this laptop without it crashing, watching videos or playing games usually ends in a crash. I need a working laptop for university next month, not one that crashes every hour or so.

So, before I started to freak out (I got this PC in December so not that long ago), I again held down the power button to force shutoff then I unplugged the PC for a minute or two, then plugged back in and powered the PC back on. At least this time it booted up, but it seemed to come up to the "lock screen" rather than the usual main login screen - again as if it was in some sort of strange sleep or hibernation mode with someone logged in.. I then confirmed this by choosing to restart the system and it did give a warning that some users may lose information..blah blah, but I chose to do the fresh restart anyway. After the restart, it booted up normally to the main login screen.  I did look in the event viewer but did NOT see any Critical events in the past hr or 24 hrs, a few Errors (none that I could see that explained the freeze) but saw these Warnings: ?  Is something occasio... *EDIT* I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this. New to the forum here so if this belongs somewhere else please lmk
I've worked on my neighbors laptop a few times before and never had an issue getting it back up to snuff. Now I'm having a heck of a time getting it to stop freezing and slowing down.
Windows 8.1 (x64)
Intel i5 Processor
I've run adwarecleaner, jrt, and installed Ccleaner. I also have Avast Free installed which I run concurrently with Malwarebytes.  There are minimal programs on startup; no malicious installed software.  Windows updates and device drivers are up-to-date.
It will run fine for 5 to 10 minutes and then completely bogs down.  The cursor will actually freeze on the screen.  Proccessor usage hardly goes over 50% if ever and memory usage stays below 40% even after running a while.  Chrome and Firefox both crash often enough even after resetting and reinstalling them.
I'm not sure what else to check/do besides a reinstall of windows but I'm hoping I'm just forgetting something obvious.  I'd rather not reinstall if I can help it.

Could you please provide a Speccy report ?  Speccy is a free download from BC, you can get it here -
And these two images will show you how to get the URL which is all you have to post -
And a MiniToolBox report, another free download from BC !
When you run it you get a box like the one in the picture below, select the entries shown -
It produces a report in Text format. Open the file and copy / paste the contents into your next post. Off the top of my head I would be inclined to think 'heat', but lets have some evidence !

Program recommendation thread.
I need 4 virtual desktops; I have 1 monitor at 1080p, and 1 monitor at 720p. I would like the 1080p monitor to display the active virtual desktop, while the 720p monitor consistently maintains a "preview grid" of all the desktops available.

As of right now with the programs I've tried, the virtual desktops are stretching across both monitors. The preview panels cannot be consistently stuck to one monitor and not the other.

I need:
- The 4 virtual desktops to only appear on the 1080p monitor
- The preview grid to only appear on the 720p monitor
- The preview grid to always be active and open
- Preferably: To be able to crop and zoom in to which sections of each virtual desktop I want to appear in each preview grid

Which program out there would be most suitable for this? *NOTE* DexPot does not have all these fucntions

About a month of so ago i had my motherboard replaced by Lenovo because in the middle of a restart my screen stopped working and wouldnt come back. So speed up to about 2 weeks ago i started having issues that my computer would randomly shut off. Then when booting, it would just cycle through the start up process then after about 5 times would shut down. Now about 3 days ago those previous issues stopped. Now i cant open file explorer, my internet explorer will open for about 2 minutes and then it will have an error and have to close out, my antivirus will not respond at all and my windows explorer (key and menu shortcut) will not respond.  Not to mention my computer has become extremely sluggish after that motherboard replacement. I am waiting a while to get a response out of any key I press, and half the time it will not respond and the entire screen will just go black. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone had issues like these after a motherboard replacement?  Or is this an OS issue? Are there any recommended courses of action to take?  I appreciate the assistance.

Dear Community, I have a G500 laptop (i5-3230M; 8 GB RAM, 1 TB SSHD, ATI HD8570M). I have multiple issues with that. On 19.04.2016 I was able to use my laptop without problems, after that I closed the lid. After around 1 hour I opened that again but already had the issues. My problems are the followings:- DVD-RAM disappeared from BIOS, however it is working fine (tested in another laptop.) In my laptop it is blinking, ejecting the tray and is rotating after inserting a disk but after a short period it stops blinking and rotating. I have found some topics already here, but there the problem was with the DVD-RAM, that is not the case by me.- SSHD stoped working as well (tested under Win 7 and Ubuntu; By Win 7 the disk recognized, however the partions were not visible and the disk management wanted to initialize the disk fist. By Ubuntu the disk was not visible in Gparted, but in Testdisk, however it said there is no partition on the disk and droped Read error by every cylinders. It seems something is blocking the reading. Testdisk showed me the capacity of the SSHD and the size of the used space as well!) The laptop was clean inside and wasn't hot. What could cause such problems and how can I fix it? Unfortunatly the warranty ended last November. If possible I would require solutions where I can at least access to my data on the SSHD. Thank you in advance!

A:Lenovo G500 multiple issues

Hi vasadam ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
Initially best if you turn off the PC and remove  the optical drive , SSHD, and battery while unplugged from the ac adapter. Press down power button for 12 seconds to power drain . Return the battery and plug the adapter . Turn on to access the BIOS and F9 to load defaults F10 save and exit.  Shut down.
Connect back the optical drive and SSHD making sure that the contacts are good and then turn on to check on BIOS for both DVD drive and SSHD .
With the optical drive , if the BIOS still failed to detect it , most likely issue would be the contact between the drive and the motherboard .
For the SSHD , don't attempt to continue with Windows recommended fix and cancel it since it may do some changes with your data inside. Run diagnostics and similar hardware test for isolation.
For data recovery best that you get a service center if they would have other tools to back up for you.
Update us how it goes .

Hi,I have problems with my recently bought laptop - Lenovo Y700-15 i5. Sometimes it freezes - I can only move mouse, but clicking and taping on the keyboard causes nothing on Windows 10. Reinstalling Windows didn't help. I've also installed Ubuntu OS - still freezes, however from time to time I can access the HDD partition (which is empty) with mouse but can't access SSD one still. Right after rebooting OS using the Power button BIOS almost always (always on Windows, sometimes on Ubuntu) doesn't see my SSD disk. I have to restart laptop several times. What do you think - is this a software, driver issue or hardware problem?CPU: i5 6300HQGraphic: Geforce GTX960MRAM: 8GB DDR4SSD: Plextor PX-128M7VGThanks in advance!

Hey guys, strange problem, unit started freezing before it could go the desktop so I did a system restore and now can easily get to the desktop but first issue is that the owner always had to enter his password to enter windows, now that doesn''t happen, when booted the system will go straight to windows. Also rightlicking on the main folders such as My Pictures My Documents e.t.c doesn't work so I am guessing it's a permissions issue. I looked at the Folder Options but not seeing anything there regarding permissions, I want to advise the owner to backup all files first before I should proceed to do anything but since I can't copy and paste that won't work, any ideas please?

Alright, so I just got my Lenovo Y50 and I'm really liking it so far, but I've run into a few issues. 1. Whenever I plug in my headphones, I get no sound. I get the Realtek notification that I've plugged it in, but I dont get any sound.2. The SD card reader just flat out doesn't work; whenever I plug something into it nothing happens.3. The USB 2 port doesn't work either. When I plug something into it Windows just says the device isn't recognised, even though it works with the other two ports.4. This isn't necessarily an issue, but my HDD is very slow, and I'm only getting about 100 MB/s. It's always at 100% usage and games stutter because of it. Would a 7200rpm drive solve this issue? I've already tried reinstalling drivers, and did a reinstall of Windows 10. Thanks!

Hi, I have a Lenovo X1 Carbon running Windows 10. I would like to connect an external monitor and my only option seems to be using the HDMI port and using a HDMI to VGA cable. I plug this into a Philips 24" ext monitor and nothing I try can get me to
duplicate or extend my display. I just get a message on the ext monitor of "Check Cable Connection". New cable, and new laptop.
How can I even check, if the HDMI port is enabled or is there some other hidden switch / setting / feature I need to turn on first. I have tried the display settings and 'Detect' but nothing.
Any thoughts please.

I work for a college and we are about to roll out a lot of T430s machines. We have some already in use by faculty and staff and we are getting BSODs/reboots on different machine types. We have some that are running 32bit and 64bit win7 Enterprise.

I am attaching 4 different sf diag results from 2 32bit and 64bit problematic and no problem machines.

As of yet, we have no parts to test with and we are trying to resolve this as quickly as possible.

Any ideas?

Thanks for any and all help!

I'm about at wit's end. My friend's laptop I've been working with off and on for about 2 weeks and I can't resolve the BSOD on my own. This all started on his Windows 8 when he was having some issues with his drivers. After doing a SFC check, I found some files were corrupted and resolved that issue and then upon his request, upgraded to Windows 10 and did a full reset. After installing all the programs, and booting up the game, it's still getting the BSOD. To be specific, there are multiple ones but most (with tehe exception of a shadow one) seem to revolve around the NVIDIA GPU (745m). I've uninstalled, reinstalled, tried older drivers but to no avail. At this point, I don't know what else to try. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've heard that this is a known issue with the the mobile gpus workingin conjunction with integrated graphics but I'm not sure. I've stressed test the system, and haven't had any issues there with Heavy Load software, so I don't believe it's a cooling issue (temps didn't seem to be out of the ordniary on the test).

Programs that claim to update your drivers install either the wrong or corrupted drivers.
If you have installed any driver with Driver Booster 3, please remove them as it may cause trouble.

Please (re)install all drivers from Lenovo and make sure the BIOS is also up to date.

Please uninstall everything of Nvidia using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from Laptops :: IdeaPad Z Series laptops :: Z710 Laptop (IdeaPad) - Lenovo Support (US). Be sure the clean install box is checked and only install the Graphics driver and the PhysX driver.

lenovo yoga 3 pro 1370, 10 months old, upgraded to W10 Sept 2015, installed new drivers for W10, latest BIOS (a6cn58ww), all W10 updates installed. Here is the problem: since a couple of weeks, the system freezes when I move the screen (but only pulling it towards me) when the Broadcom 802.11ac is enabled. If I disable the Broadcom Network adapter in the device manager everything is fine and can move my screen without problems. Once I enable it BOOM ! I have posted this on other forum, and was able to get some relief (for 24h...) by doing the following: 1) I uninstalled the Broadcom driver and also checked the box ?delete the driver software for this device?2) I double clicked on the latest driver (4abe02af) and followed the instructions3) BUT at a certain point during the re-installation it asked me if I wanted to ?uninstall? the driver which I found strange as I had already uninstalled it from the device manager, so I clicked yes and it said ?uninstall complete? or something similar4) Out of curiosity I launched again the installation of new driver, and this time it installed without asking me whether I would uninstall it5) Rebooted the system, the problem disappeared for about 24h, then re-surface and still on.  So I am now facing again the old problem. One suggestion..... I'm wondering after you straightened out the driver problem if Windows 10 didn't automatically reinstall the problem driver back again.  Windows 10 is good for giving driver updates whether you want them or not.  Try turning off the auto driver updates, reinstall the new driver and then see if that makes a difference.  This article will explain how to stop the auto updates of drivers......

I recently renewed a rattling fan in my E220s. Since then I get permanent freezes every time, starting from ca. 5 to 40 minutes on. I checked with Sandra, and to my understanding no temperature sensor shows anything abnormal.

Since the thermal pad on the chip to the left from the CPU (northbridge?) seemed worn, I renewed it also with a 1 mm 7W pad. After dismantling again it does seem not the whole (but no less than 80%) of the chip's surface is hard pressed to the pad. I understand it's all the screws that keep the structure tight, but I have no more ideas on how it can be wrongly fit - or improved. Please note I have dismantled the laptop including the fan assembly several times before, without any noticeable issues. Yes I do use thermal grease/spread for the CPU.

Many thanks in advance,

I did not ever experience this before. I was hoping that Chrome was the issue, so I de-installed it. Unfortunately that was not it ... Now the same happens when I pull out the 'power connection', the laptop then shuts down hard, and will not come alive anymore, I can only turn it on when the power is plugged.- this now looks like a broken battery issue, however with the experience of the multiple 'hard shut downs' on the same day (with power plugged) I am not that sure anymore... Is there anyone that has an idea what could be the issue? many thanks, Jeroen

*BACKSTORY - Skip down to the "Questions" section*It has been a year since I've purchased my Lenovo 15.6" G500s.Being a college student, I use this computer on a daily basis. One evening out of the blue, the computer shuts off a couple seconds after I unplugged the power cord and picked it up to move to another location in my apartment.  I assumed that the computer had gone into sleep mode and didn't try to turn it back on until I was settled down in my living room. However, the computer was shut off and wouldn't turn back on.  My first initial reaction was that my battery might have been out since I occasionally forget to plug in BOTH ends of the charging cord (I have a lot on my mind at times  ) So I returned to my room to plug my computer back in and tried to turn it on. Nothing happens. So I took out my battery and placed it back in again before trying to turn it on. Nothing. At this point, I was stumped so I checked my power cord, everything was fine then noticed that my LED lights weren't on yet the cord was plugged in. So I searched up solutions and I've tried everything I could find so far: 1) Secret Button Trick2) Removing the battery then putting it back in and turning it on3) Plugging the charger in4) Trying a different battery (which I ordered via Amazon)5) Removing HD and Ram and then placing it back in.  I haven't tried another charger yet but I'm prepared to accept that fact that my Moth... hi itsbeccuhhere,
Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
Regarding your questions:
1.  Trying out another AC adapter would have isolated the possibility of a bad charger but since you mentioned that you purchased a different battery (which is normally factory pre-charged) and didn't worked, it's likely that there's an internal component that's malfunctioning.
2. Check this support phone list on how to go about getting the unit serviced.
3. If you're not missing any screws when you assembled the system back after you reset the HDD and RAM then it's likely that the stray silver screw that you found might have been loose from a different component. If you can't find the place to screw it back in place then I recommend you report it ASAP when contacting lenovo support to avoid any discrepancy on the warranty service.
4. It's always essential to backup important files before sending the machine for service. In your case, you may need to purchase a 2.5" SATA enclosure to convert the HDD to an external drive and make it readable on another PC.

Ok let me do a quick synopsis of whats happened and hopfully some of you can let me know what is the next step:

1. My friend has a T500, got badly infected he told me, and said he couldnt clean it, so I told him I'll just reinstall Windows and get it redone to be safe. The laptop seems to be originally a Vista OS, but he said he had been using XP for a while. I do not know what kind of virus he had.

2. When I tried reinstalling XP, there is a blue screen error right when the initial screen ends and is about to go to the choose partition section and format... the error code is different depending on what install disk I use, XP SP3 Slipstream I made from the MS site, or an old XP Home disk I have had for a while... for the slipstream, the error is:

The only thing that has changed is my screen resolution to 800 x 600.

Hi all,

I bought a Lenovo G555 laptop in new condition, and it can't be more than two years old. For quite some time, it's had several annoying problems. Most notably, it occasionally completely freezes; this can occur while using it, or when opening the lid after it has not been in use. The second issue is that the time it takes to boot up is no less than 20 to 30 minutes. This occurs whether the computer is restarted or booted up after being off.

Here are the remedies I have already tried:

-Restoring to factory condition (several times)
-Daily antivirus scans (full scans once a week) with the most up to date virus definitions (I use avast! and nothing is detected)
-Full Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware scans with the most up to date definitions (no malware found)

I do not have an extreme amount of software installed, as I think I'm pretty careful about what I install on my PCs.

On top of this, beginning today, Windows is now reporting there is a problem with the battery and it needs to be replaced, but the problems described above began long before this happened.

I don't know if this makes any difference, but this PC is nearly always plugged in, as we only unplug it to take it elsewhere on fairly rare occasions.

Your help would greatly be appreciated.

Recently my computer has been occasionally freezing while I've been browsing online. It doesn't actually get to the point of BSOD but programs will stop working and I eventually won't be able to close or open anything, including task manager.

I tried running CHKDSK to see if that could fix things, (it has crashed since then unfortuantely), doing so somehow filled up my hard drive. I went from having around 700 GB free to only having a couple hundred MBs free. I tried this two more times.

I've attached the dump log as requested as well as the three logs of the CHKDSK that I found in event viewer.

Hello and welcome Baxter mate some more in depth specs please as that model Googles up as a laptop.
If you use this and find out what the motherboard is it would help a bit more

Using HW Info general components

DownloadHW Info and pick the right bit version - HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download - (copy andpaste this site into the search bar) If you do not need the running informationin the smaller right hand panel close it. In the left hand window click on the+ for the individual device groupings and they will open out to the variouscomponents.

Go onopening out further until you get to the device itself. click on it and it willhighlight. In the right hand window there will be a very detailed descriptionof that device as in brand, speeds model number etc etc These are very detailedand are just what is needed for searching for drivers etc.

See my picfor an example - in this I have opened out one my components and then highlighted one of the one you need andyou can see the detail.
But I want you to open Motherboard

PS I did mean to add please see this for posting back pics of the screen

I work in a corporate IT environment and have recently noticed alot of our 64 bit laptops are blue screening due to iaStor.sys (Intel Rapid storage technology driver - x64)

I have been able to do the basic analyzing but It would be a great help if anyone could follow this up and let me know if there is anything else causing this as I have removed the driver and installed a new one but it still appears to be blue screening

I have attached a zip folder with mini dumps attached (Couldn't get the SF Diagnostics tool working)

Many Thanks!

My computer has been freezing up and been popping up with mulitple .exe errors the main one being vptray.exe. I think the cause of this might be my HP software which was fine until about a month ago. When ever I open it something with HP a windows installer pops up with it and I have to close it. Another problem that could be linked to this is whenever I try to access programs through right click -> programs nothing ever pops up. What ever you can do will be most appreciated, thank you.

Hello All

I am running XP Pro on a DELL Inspirion Desktop. I am having 'freezes' occur daily. The freeze will occur no matter what programs are running (it has happened in online poker, or just surfing the net) and I have not changed any programs or added any new ones for some time.

I have used the internet connection with my laptp so it's not that.

After a freeze occurs sometimes you can reboot the PC and it will occur again almost immediately upon logging on, sometimes it will take a few minutes of internet time.

Sometimes the PC will re-boot incredibly slowly or not at all.

I thought about trying that Windows recovery tool from here (with chkdsk) but I thought I would ask for advice first.

A:Multiple Hangups (freezing) Of Xp Pro

One of the things that can cause this is overheating. Open your case and see if there is an accumulation of dust inside, especially around the heat sink and fan assembly on the CPU. If there is you will need to blow it out with a can of inert air, you can find this at stores like Staples or Radio Shack. Be sure that you clean inside the heat sink fins, accumulations of dust will decrease the ability of the heat sink to work. Check see that your fans are all working, if you have a dedicated graphic card with a heat sink and fan, make sure that it is clean as well. Another area to check is the vent in the front of the case where air is drawn inside the case. You may need to remove the front cover to access the perforated portion of the case that the air flows through. Before you put your hands inside the case please read the following information.Caution: There are electronics inside the case that are very susceptible to electrostatic discharges. To protect your computer, touch the metal of the case to discharge yourself of any charges your body may have stored before touching any of the components inside. As a safety precaution you should unplug the computer to avoid electrical shock.

Running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT.
4g ram.
INTEL core 2 duo

Been having random BSODs, along with "Display Driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver has stopped responding" error, and freezing. The strange thing is that I don't get any of these issues while in game (League of Legends). ONCE it BSODd while in game, but that was once out of MANY times over the past month. When it freezes, it usually makes a loud noise like a cross between buzzing and beeping, that may vary in pitch. I then have to power off. I have attached the BSOD file and system health report.

I thought it was the RAM, so I put in the RAM from my laptop (the one with the problems I've been talking of is my boyfriends) and it has still frozen up since I've done that. So it is not the RAM, although it's only frozen so far and hasn't BSOD'd since then. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling new drivers, including beta drivers, which have not worked any better.

Thanks for any help.

A:Multiple BSODs and freezing

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

When I use two fingers on the touchpad to scroll down webpages or documents on my computer, sometimes the scrolling cursor freezes. I have had up to 6 of them freeze on my screen and they will not go away unless I restart my computer. They don't affect how the pages scroll or anything, they just sit there. If I put the mouse pointer over top of them, the blue busy icon shows up. The picture below shows two of the cursors. How can I stop this from happening? With my work I highly depend on scrolling efficiently, so I need to be able to use the touchpad for this.

Hai there. For a week or two, my system seems to freezes on a variety of things, but mostly games such as World of Warcraft. Also I noticed that it would slightly freeze when i'm watching anime, using VLC player. I would start it up and within 4-5 seconds, it will freeze for about 10 seconds, then it'd be fine for another 4-5, repeat, repeat.
Also, at times, the screen will flash black for a second. Never really noticed it that much.

I don't think anything caused it...until my power cable blew one day, sent the power supply back for warranty, so I used my onboard graphics while that was away. Came back, stuck my 9800 back in..then I think I changed a few settings, can't remember what they are...then it started. But I have reformatted (installed vista over xp) yesterday and it's still happening.

Here are my system specs:
OS Name Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Business
Version 6.0.6000 Build 6000
System Model MS-7373
System Type X86-based PC
Processor AMD Phenom(tm) 9500 Quad-Core Processor, 2200 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. V1.3, 28/03/2008
SMBIOS Version 2.5

Video Card: NVIDA GeForce 9800 GTX/9800 GTX+ PCI-E
Hard Drive: 200GB Sata raid.

Oh, and I reset the BIOS using it's optimized defaults. No dice. HWmonitor data is in the attachment.
Thanks in advance.

I do computer support for a living and multiple customers have contacted me in the last 2 weeks stating that their Windows 7 computers are freezing intermittantly. Does anyone have any info on this?
I have performed a number of tasks on one of my customers PC. I updated the video drivers, I updated any programs that were requesting updates (Java, Adobe, Microsoft). I cleaned out all the temp files. I changed the anti-virus software from Webroot to Malwarebytes. I have searched through the event logs (both System & Application) and there are no patterns.

Hey all,
I am experiencing consistent BSoD's and Freezing day in and day out. Im over it! I cannot seem to find a resolution to the problem I'm having, I have tried to update my drivers but with some I think I'm doing i wrong, and I dont want to stuff my PC up. The computer is a Pre-Build (Woops <.<) and came with Windows 7 originally. Everything was fine for a year and then I started to get some less frequent BSoD's, but no Freezing.
Not long after my main HDD was dying and so I had to replace it. And so I installed Windows 8 Pro. The OS is torrented as well.
The most frequent and common error I get is CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT , but I was getting other ones as well.
Also, when playing DOTA 2, DOTA 2 consistently crashes on me.

Hi all, having a really strange issue that is affecting multiple computers all with windows 7 64 bit.

Home computer: Only seems to happen when installing or deleting .exe files... usually when I try and delete them. It is fine doing everything else.. gaming/etc.
I5 750 CPU
Nvidia 560 TI

Work computers (at least 6 different ones, all with different users): If it were only these computers having the issue, I would say lack of RAM... since we run a lot of apps, but since it is happening on my home computer....
Intel 2 Duo E7500
Nvidia Quadro NVS 450

At work I caught the RAM dropping down to 0 free, where it will normally have around 1 gig - 500 mb free. I haven't been able to catch the ram usage at home when the issue happens... since you can't even CTRL ALT DELETE, I forget the exact message, but it pretty much tells you to just restart your computer manually. Also the internet connection will drop, and firefox will say a script stopped responding.

This seems to have started happening in the last month or two, which leads me to think there was an update that affects how windows 7 is allocating RAM, where it is trying to use too much for the system and draining it.

Since this seems to be affecting so many computers I really expected to see a lot of people having the issue online, but I haven't been able to find anything.

Hopefully some of you have ideas, if you need any more info let me know. Thanks!

A:Multiple computers freezing/slowing down

Work computer...that has all kinds of corporate antivirus things on it, also ran malwarebytes on it. Didn't find anything really bad. They are all Dells.

Okay First of all I have a Windows XP (SP3) Computer

This freezing problem has been happening for over 4 Months ( Or even more),
First of all My Computer started off with a 768 MB RAM with Intel Pentium 4 Processor.

My Computer will freeze at random times and at random moments. For instance like if I was Scanning my computer for Viruses, And I go somewhere to do something by the time I come back My Computer would Freeze like the Cursor wouldn't be moving and No buttons will work. And at the moment I have to press the Reset button on my CPU.

I've Tried multiple Solutions. I even went with my dad last saturday to go buy 1GB of Ram and It still freezes,

I've tried Going to the System Performance Tab and Disabling everything for my computer to run at the best Performance.

I have CCleaner and Use it Daily to clean my Computer.

I have ESET Smart Security Business Edition Scanned my omputer No Viruses.

Defragmented my HD with Power Defragmenter.

Even tried the Ramcleaner Trick involving Notepad.

Seems nothing doesn't work.

My Computer specs again are

Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3.
Version 2002
1.50 GB of RAM
Intel (R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.00 GHz
NVIDIA Quadro Display Adapter
TP-LINK 11b/g Wireless Adapter

Damn its really hard to type serious business on an iPad. Please pardon missing commas, etc.
Okay so sometime between friday and today something got in to my computer (Win7) or activated on my computer... I havent really been at it until this morning. I finally was able to get a full scan done on Microsoft Home Essentials (its what it came with) and nothing was found. I was able to get a quickscan on Malwarebytes and it didnt find/remove anything of use. I tried to do a full scan but an hour or so in it froze and died again. I'm trying that again now. The moment I enable the wifi the comp lasts a few moments then the cursor moves but nothing else responds (I can tell when the clock stops advancing). Safe mode has things going a bit easier but doesnt get around the problem. I cant see anything in task manager because of the freezing. I can launch firefox when wifi is off but if I turn it on and go to a page, it chokes and the system freezes. IE doesnt even manage that. I dont have Chrome to see how it fares.
Can anyone help a frustrated student with suggestions? I've exhausted my own abilities :/
Thanks so much in advance!

Running Vista Ultimate w/ SP2 running the Vista TV Media Pack 2008

I am here seeking help. I have googled regarding whether the VMC can be re-installed (hoping to fix things) but from what I've read that option doesnt' exist.

Background: A few months ago, Media Center began having (hiccups & freezes and occassionally would crash)... From time to time ever since install it has done this, but never so frequently and NOW repeatable. I believe this started after downloading & installing Windows updates, some months back. These things have a way of creeping up on me & so at this point I don't think System restore is an option.
Other issues I just fixed a Windows Search Protocal stopped working error.

Here's what I experience: Generally Media Center starts and will record & let me watch programs, however It crashes repeatedly throughout. Some times it crashes itself & "searching for a solution" ...send more data etc, restarting happens. Some times the crashes will happen back to back to back.
IF I am watching a program or watching tv, or something I'm simultaneously recording if I go into the upcoming shows about 50% of the time if I hit the record button to add that show to an upcoming record que, the system freezes. Most of the time when it does this it will crash & restart. Other times it will sit there for a LONG time? Sometimes I'm forced to Ctrl-Alt-Del to end the program.

In the past I didn't have any problem going into the setti... Read more

PC has been having lots of issues - super slow, freezing up, hanging on boot, etc. I ran MalwareBytes in safe mode and and it didn't find anything. AVG keeps popping up resident filter tracking cookie warnings. AVG removed healed all but one. It said it couldn't heal it. Here is the log:"Object name";"HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\\AVP""Detection name";"Found Adware.Generic""Object type";"registry key""SDK Type";"Core""Result";"Potentially dangerous object""Action history";"Moved to Virus vault"When I googled the object name above it came back as Virus:Win32p/Sapaq.A, but not much info on how to remove it successfully.I had another malware ?Antivirus soft? about a week ago that was detected and removed by superantispyware, and this was when I first noticed problems of running slow and locking up, but its gotten worse. Upon recommendation, I uninstalled superantispyware and installed Malwarebytes instead. It runs fine and doesn't detect anything.PC was hanging on normal boot - i ran chkdsk and it seemed to fix temporarily so I can sometimes boot normal, although when I go in safe mode it still hangs at crcdisk.sys for quite a while before it proceeds to login page. I have major problems on my Windows XP. I open my browser and multiple pop up ads and spyware stuff has taken over my computer. I'm closing everything as quick as it pops up but then I'll get the "experiencing problems and must shut down" message. Then I get "run time error" message sometimes. I have high speed internet and I have tried downloading a free removal system but it seems to not work on all of them. I'm sure I have major crap on my hard drive that's taking over everything. What can I do?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask as I don't really know what is causing the failure, so I'm asking here.

I've been having some irritating issues. I've had this computer for over a year and a half, and I didn't have issues with it until around April.

I'll browse for a while on Firefox or Chrome or both, then everyone stops loading. It's like someone hit the pause button. No error pages, no failed to load red x images, just blank pages and loading icons. If I close Firefox and attempt to open it, it'll tell me it's already open. This doesn't happen for Chrome, it just opens a blank page. If I attempt to shut down, I'll sit twiddling my thumbs for about three minutes [sometimes longer] before I see my system tray close icons, and my computer finally starts logging me off. It logs me off for about five minutes, although sometimes much shorter. My computer restarts and it's perfectly fine. For a while.

Most of the time my torrent program fails at the same time and I can't close it no matter what I try.

I've scanned for viruses multiple times with multiple programs. I've uninstalled both both browsers and used them individually until one broke, and also have uninstalled and started using a new torrenter.

I'm using Vista Home Premium SP1 on an XPS 420.

A:Misc failure/freezing of multiple programs

Hi -

Firefox is very poorly designed so it has those small little "bugs" that get very annoying, very annoying indeed! Sometimes, they're even considered "glitches", which is basically what this is.

Firefox comes with a file called " parent.lock ", which keeps information on your multiple profiles - which noone even uses anyways, but if you have more than one profile don't follow below!

You must delete this file, then reboot your computer (or just Firefox, doesn't really matter) and it should be back to normal. Go to :

START | Run... | Type " %APPDATA%\Mozilla\ " | Delete " parent.lock "

What this is doing is basically unlocking your profile and won't display "Firefox is already open.." or something very similar.

I only mentioned the Firefox issue, I'll let someone else cover the rest ~ Free bump, and good luck.

I ran the sys utility (results below). I have two printers, a Canon and an Epson. When I try to print to either one using most utilities, the software freezes for about five minutes, then works. This happens even when I try to get to a new window to adjust printing specs. It freezes only in that software program (all others continue to work) It always prints in the end, but can take a half hour to print a document. This is happening on both printers with a number of programs, particularly Photoshop Elements and the Windows Explorer window, but also Picasa -- only Open Office seems to work smoothly.

It's a new problem. I've had the computer for years. The Canon (Pixma MG5200) is about six months old and the Epson (Stylus Photo 1400) is new.

Hey, I'm having multiple problems with a friends laptop here and I don't know what she got into. What I've done thus far.The computer wouldn't even boot right so I booted to safe mode killed all the startup processes in MSCONFIGIt then allowed me to boot normally so I did and un-installed all of the programs they didn't needTried to install ad-aware but the install froze at "Searching for previous installed components"Installed Spybot and tried to run and it froze or started going extremely slow @ bot check 599Ran HijackThis and killed a lot of things I was sure of that shouldn't be there. Installed AntiVIr and scanned (200+ things found)It finally let me install adaware so I did that and it freezes up at around 56000 files while scanning the registry in one of the /SOFTWARE/ foldersSo this is where I sit now. Not sure what is wrong but Spybot and Adaware are still freezing. The computer is running a lot better though (IE Can get online, boot up normal, not get re-directed to bogus sites) but I'd like to be able to do some full scans just to make sure and get everything off. Below is the last HijackThis log I took which I really don't see anything else that I can do with it.Thanks.Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 4:04:08 PM, on 07/12/2006Platform: Windows XP (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2600.0000)Running processes:C:\WINNT\System32\smss.exeC:\WINNT\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINNT\syste... A:Multiple Problems, Freezing Spybot/adaware

Just an update. I did a scan with adaware disabling the deep registry scan since that is where it was hanging. It completed that scan (899 things found) and now I'm trying again with the full system scan. I have never seen a computer this messed up!

I have a Dell Inspiron 14 laptop, I have Windows 7 and I have several issues with it. A while ago I noticed that the taskbar was freezing and loading for a while after starting my computer, it only lasted about 2 minutes and I thought it was just a minor problem as my computer is a few years old. A few days ago it completely freezed and I couldn't do anything anymore. I did a restore system and it went fine but when I tried to load the disc with drivers and utilities my computer couldn't load the disc... So I went to Dell website and started to download drivers and other stuff directly from their website but I think I did a big mess with my computer... I started to noticed that the Blue Screen Minidump appeared each time after starting my system. I ran Dell diagnostic and Malwarebytes, I got rid of a few viruses including "Rovnix, Kryptik". After a while I was able to get rid of the Blue Screen. Now I still have some issues with my laptop, it keeps running slow and freezing and I have to keep pressing "ctrl, Alt & Delete" to unfreeze the system, I also have multiple tabs opening when I go on Yahoo email or on other websites, my mouse also act weird and I see various cursors appearing. I think something is messed up with drivers and registry but I don't know how to fix that, I don't want to restore again windows and I can't even do it because I tried two days ago and when I reached the agreement page I was not able to chec... This system is maybe about 5 years old,(Custom Built)

Well my computer has been getting BSOD errors for about a month now, and i know i should have gotten help along time ago before it got worse. I have been Getting Driver_IRQL_not_equal, IRQL_not_equal, BAD_POOL_HEADER, and another issue, if i leave my computer idle for a while, or while i am just regularly using it, it will just freeze up to where you cannot put in any input whatsoever, and the only option is to force shut down/restart by pressing the Power button. I tried to do what was instructed in the BSOD posting instructions, but my computer froze in the process, so i hope what i provide is enough, please ask me any questions, or tell me what else i need to provide because i really want to fix this problem.

******** I am running this computer in safe mode right now because the BSOD errors are coming at the very initial startup of the computer, and for some reason the uploading of the Crash Dump Zip Is Failing, So I am Providing a different download link.****

My Internet Explorer has become insanely slow, and freezes completely when I am in Facebook. It locks up and takes numerous attempts to close out.
I now see in Task Manager that iexplore.exe shows up multiple times as a running process, and using large amounts of memory. Just from what reading I have done I am assuming this is a virus/malware, etc.
I use System Mechanic Professional for virus scanning and overall maintenance. Nothing I have done with that program has helped.  After looking for advice, I have run Malwarebytes (did not detect anything), and TDSSkiller (did not detect anything) - I have those logs, but know not to post them here.  The next step recommended was ComboFix but I appreciated the recommendation to not run it without the help of a professional. That is why I am here.
Any help appreciated!

A:IE slow and freezing; iexplore.exe shows up multiple times

System Mechanic Professional is and also has been primarily an optimizing tool with registry cleaning capability. If you have been using it for some time, it could have removed important registry entries related to Internet Explorer and other important programs. Why you should not use Registry Cleaners and Optimization ToolsSystem Shield was added to make the program more attractive so folks would purchase the product. IMO that feature is not very effect...I recommend you remove and replace it with a dedicated antivirus. See Choosing an Anti-Virus ProgramWhile there are some malware infections which can launch iexplorer.exe, be aware that if Internet Explorer is open, the browser itself may be creating multiple instances in Task Manager. If you're not finding any malware after performing various security scans look more closely at your browser. If using Internet Explorer 8/9 or Windows 7/8, the browser will run an extra instance of iexplorer.exe for each opened tab as part of the Loosely-Coupled IE and Automatic Crash Recovery features by design. ACR stores information about a browsing session on the hard disk so that in the event of a browser crash, hang, or other unexpected shutdown, it will allow you to resume the last browsing session. If using multiple tabs, ARC allows recovery of all opened tabs in case of a browser failure. Essentially that allows Internet Explorer to prevent itself from closing when a web site in one tab crashes. In order to this, Internet Explorer wil... Read more

I have a Dell XPS 1730 and the problem started about 2 months ago and while it is manageable it is somewhat annoying.

1. I have a wired mouse and the touchpad remains enabled.
The first sign of a problem was the mouse pointer jumping slightly this is soon followed by interruption of any audio and then later freezing of the display. I found that by waiting for several minutes the mouse pointer was unfrozen but could no longer select anything and no keyboard entries have any effect.

2. The collected symptoms associated with this problem are,
a. At some point during login a reboot can occur.
b. During the first login of the day the problem is most likely to be seen and after pressing and holding the Off button to force the shutdown a subsequent login seems to be Ok (for some time eg. hours).
c. I have tried in Safe Mode both with and without networking and the freezing can still happen.
d. sometimes I get a blue screen with a memory parity error message but running the Dell memory check sw confirms the RAM to be good.

3. I have tried a number of things to fix this with no success.
a. CHKDSK did find and correct some errors.
b. Using the Dell updates site I upgraded to the latest A011 BIOS and to the latest drivers that were suggested.
c. I checked through all the BIOS settings but all seemed OK.
d. I have used Spybot, IOBit, Ad-Aware, AVG Free to check the system and two minor things were reported and removed.
e. Yesterday I noticed my IPV6 status was shown as limited ... Read more
