This should restore the PC to that time & date

Ok on my Dell D530 Laptop I got home last night to find my laptop I use for work has no interner connection.

1. Checked my other laptop- It has a connection (not the Router or service its self)
2. Restarted Cable Modem and Router, just in case.
3. Re set the NIC adapter of the D530.
4. Windows Diag was no help.
5. Did everything I could think off.
6. Back-ed everything up, and re-imaged it.

With a fresh factory. It's still saying "wireless capability is turned off". There is no physical switch to "turn on or off"

I looked in "services" and re-started things I thought were help but nothing.

Anyone have any ideas that would help. Next move is calling Dell.

Thanks, Ryan

I have a Dell XPS M1530 with a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. I lost my wireless capability all of a sudden with the previous install of Home Premium. Yes, the wireless switch is turned on. The machine has Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN Network Adapter and Marvell Yukon 88E8040 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller. I have it hard-wired to my router with an Ethernet Cable. It's working fine.

Are there any suggestions as to how I can get my wireless capability back?

hi and thanks in advance

ive got a toshiba satellite p755-s5320 windows 7 home premium 64 bit. laptop has ran fine for a while and then out of nowhere i cant use my wifi anymore. i dont know if someone deleted some drivers or other software maybe while i was at work..no clue. normally i would boot up and connect to the internet automatically but now it says "not connected. no connections are available" btw all the other tech in the house is working and connecting fine. my xbox, phone, and other laptops all connect fine so i have internet i just cant connect to it from my toshiba. windows network diagnostics says the problem found is "Wireless capability is turned off". my fn keys i dont believe are working because they wont turn on my wifi switch and the hot key thats lit which is supposed to toggle my wifi switch isnt working either. if i touch the hotkey it just flashes slow one time but nothing happens. actually there for a little while when i would touch my wifi hotkey to try to turn on my wifi it would launch "windows media player" lol. i did a system restore and set my laptop to back before it messed up and that didnt fix it. im not very tech savy but i think somebody deleted some software maybe some drivers or somehow reassigned my keys on my keyboard and hot keys. but either way if im missing software i dont know how to check and i cant reinstall windows because i dont have the disc anymore. also i cant still connect to the internet... Hello,

I'm using Lenovo Z570 laptop. (Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter)

Problem:- Can't switch on wifi. The on/off switch is grayed out. While troubleshooting, it says, " wireless capability is turned off".

Solutions Tried:- Re-installed drivers provided by lenovo's website.
Re-installed drivers by windows update.
Reset settings in Bios to default values.
Yes the physical switch is on and the indicator light is glowing.
Fn+ F5 just toggles on/off airplane mode.
Disabled the option so that power management doesn't switches off wifi to save battery.
Other numerous solutions on internet.

The wifi worked flawlessly in windows 7. I even used it as a hotspot (via cmd method).

Someone save me..... Life without wifi seems Dull. :'(

Try doing a full uninstall of the device and driver in Device manager. Then reboot and see if Windows 8 will find the device on its own. If it does, then you should be able to go into the desktop, open device manager and see the device listed as functioning.

A:Wireless capability turned off ?

Welcome!

There is often a switch on the side, bottom, or front of the laptop that turns the card on or off.

Also go into Device Manager, find your card, and make sure it is enabled from the right-click menu.

Hello, a few months ago my laptop started randomly turning off its capability, however last week it turned off completely. It occasionally turns but not for too long. The wifi button does nothing, no matter how much or how I press it, it stays orange. At the mobility center the function to turn on wifi is greyed out. I tried checking BIOS, everything is fine there, I tried checking WLAN AutoConfig at services.msc, everything is fine, and ofcourse I tried different drivers and stuff to no help. The interesting thing is that I had mini usb wireless adapter and it made wifi work, however I accidentally broke it and am unable to buy a new one at the moment.
P.S. I should also mention that I tried to lower the roaming sensitivity, make it that the laptop does not turn off the adapter on power saving mode, checked whether radio is enabled, troubleshoot the problem as admin, with no help. The driver is Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn Wi-Fi Adapter. I pretty much tried everything out that I can find but nothing helped, hopefully someone will be able to help me. The laptop is HP ProBook 4540s. If you need more info I can gladly provide it.

I am having issues with my wireless on my Asus laptop with Windows 7. About half a month ago, I was trying to help a friend with his internet problems, and was going through the steps myself. I instructed him to disabled, then reenable the wireless adapter in the network and sharing center. I did so myself, and noticed my wireless did not work after that. I ran diagnostics for it, and it told me that my wireless switch is turned off, which I checked and it is turned on. I tried switching it off then on again, but it still didn't work. I then did a system restore to get it to work again (which it did). Then, this morning, I was having trouble connecting to the internet, so, thinking it wouldn't do it again, I disabled and reenabled the wireless adapter, and now its doing the same thing. I tried doing a system restore, but it comes up with an error about the memory and cancels it. I would like to fix the wireless problem without having to do a system restore anyway. Please help.
Thanks, GPolice

A:Wireless Capability is Turned Off

Nevermind, I fixed it. What I did was disallowed Windows to disable the adapter for powersaving, and I uninstalled the driver. I restarted it and let it install the driver and it worked.

If you have lost your wireless connection (Wi-Fi) and pressing the wireles button on your laptop doesn't fix it, do this: Download and install HP Connection Manager. After 8 hours of screwing with this I am so happy to report my Wi-Fi has been turned back on.  The antenna button did not work.  It only turned the Bluetooth on and off.  My wireless connection had a red X on it and the troubleshooter told me straight up that my "Wireless capability is turned off", but gave me no way to turn it back on.  In Windows Mobility Center the Wireless Network clearly showed it was off, but the button to turn it on was greyed out.  I updated the BIOS and wireles drivers, but that did nothing.  Then I downloaded and installed HP Connection Manager and rebooted.  I opened up HP CM and there was a button that showed the wireless was off.  I pushed it and the wireless turned on.  That easy.  Or rather, after hours and hours of pain, it turned on.  My next step would have been to go through the BIOS to see if somehow from there the Wi-Fi had been disabled, but I did not need to go that far. Good luck people.  Hopefully this thread will save you some time.

A:Wireless Capability is Turned Off, Wi-Fi On/OFF button Greye...

The issue seems to be with my wifi hardware chip. Eventualy I had to take the laptop to Service Center. The guy tried everything that I did again. Finally the problem is resolved, he plugged out the wifi hardware chip, cleand its both ends a little bit using a eraser, and inserted again and voila, it got detected. He said it could be the issue of carbon lodged on chip's connecting ends. Since then I have faced same issue several times, and All I do is open my laptop, plug out WiFi chip from motherboard, clean it a little and plug it again. And It starts working like a charm.May be it is loose or I don't know what is the exact problem. But it still has a problem with Antenna, I recieve very low signal from my wifi, even I am within decent range of wifi router.

Hello guys. It's been a few weeks since I've used my windows vista and all of a sudden the wireless on the computer is turned off. It said that there was a switch in front of my computer and there was but I keep pressing it and it doesn't work at all. I also tried to do FN + F2 and it doesn't work. Neither of the other F and numbers don't work either (they don't have a wireless sign in them). Also, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the adapter too and it doesn't work either. My brand of Windows Vista is a VAIO computer. Please help, I've been trying to get it work for weeks.

Hello all. I don't even know from where to start. If someone's able to help me, I'll be grateful.

The problem is like this: I own a Toshiba Equium L40-10U :

-Processor : Intel(r) Celeron(r) M CPU 520 @1.6 GHZ
-Memory : 1GB of RAM
-Qualcomm Atheros AR5007EG Wireless.
It came with a 32 bit Windows Vista Home Premium, and I recently updated it to a 32 bit Windows 7 Ultimate.

When I was running on Vista, the wireless kept turning on and off, without me disabling it. I thought it was a driver issue, so I updated the drivers, again, it was working fine, but the problem appeared again.
I then upgraded my operating system to 7 Ultimate, Windows Update updated my wireless driver, and it worked for a couple of hours, and while I was on the internet reading something, I saw this pop-up on my screen: "Wireless Lan OFF". Since then I cannot seem to "activate " my wireless.

Should I mention that there is no actual switch to turn the wireless on or off, is just a hotkey combination: Fn and number 8.
And now when I press that, it just gives me a popup: "Wireless Lan OFF". It doesn't matter how many times I press it , it still says that is off.

I'll attach a print screen to see exactly the pop-up message(see first attachment)

In the device manager, the wireless adapter is there and functioning properly (see second attachment)

Things that I already tried:

-Uninstall wireless adapter, download & install latest wireless driver... Read more

Forgive me for not knowing the proper terms, but am newer to the Wifi game - have only had it since February.

Our Gateway Laptop has always recognized our Wifi signal until a week ago. Now whenever it goes to sleep or is shut off it does not recognize that we have internet. Instead of the 5 bar icon showing; it has a red x. The only way I can get it to connect is to reboot. I have done a system refresh and also tried to update the driver (Realtek RTL8188CE) but it says I have the most up-to-date version.

This is extremely frustrating! Does anyone have any ideas?

A:Wifi Capability being turned off

"Troubleshoot problems" (right click the network icon) can fix the majority of issues without needing a reboot. It will turn off the adapter and re-initialize the drivers.

On portable devices the wireless adapter can be manually turned off for most devices. It is usually a Fn key that is used to turn wireless off.
Wireless can be disabled and enabled, within the list of network connections (Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections).
I know it is frustrating and I don't have a proper solution for you. Especially when you say you have updated your drivers. But the above may help in keeping you from having to completely restart your machine.

One thought does come to mind though. That is checking to see if the wireless is set to turn off when the PC goes in sleep mode. Keeping wireless active could keep it from bugging out.

Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Change Plan Settings
Change advanced power settings
Wireless Adapter settings > Power Savings Mode > Setting:
There is a choice between (Performance, Low, Med, and Max)
My desktop never sleeps and wireless is set to performance. So I have no experience with the setting, I just know it is there.

Hello all,

I was hoping someone could offer advice on a pesky problem I have with my sons school laptop.

He has a relatively new Acer Travelmate P645-M SNID 44804139034 Win 764 bit which just last Monday could not connect to the school server or my modem at home, we can connect with a wire or a dongle but not with the inbuilt wireless adapter.

I have been to Acer site and downloaded the relevant drivers for the devices listed in Device manager and they are all updated. The list under Network adapters is.

Bluetoothx2
Intel Dual Broad band wireless n7260
Intel ethernet
Microsoft virtual mini port adapterx2

I'm assuming the Intel Broadband wireless adapter is the one that connects wirelessly to the internet.

So when the computer starts it looks for a connection but message says no connection available, so I trouble shoot and get "Turn on wireless capability" by using the function keys, so I do this eventhough the wireless lamp is indicating it's on, but no good.

This is a bit frustrating now as everything seems like it's working as it should be but something is blocking the wireless starting up or so it seems.

Now I've been onto Acer support but they only checked the device manager for warnings, but everything is good, their next suggestion is a factory reset, that's something I don't want to do at this stage especially mid school term.

I ran scannow and it fixed some errors but couldn't fix the all so maybe that could be a possibility, I have logs if they are... Read more

I have a IBM X31 thinkpad laptop which I have had the hard drive replaced. I have no OEM discs but have loaded Windows XP professional 2002 with SP3. After a great deal of time I have found drivers for all hardware from either the IBM (Lenovo) website or from driver detective with the exception of the network controller whiich I assume controls the wireless capabilities of the computer. I have tried to turn on/off the wireless capability using the f5 key to no avail. I'm unsure of what to do next.

Whats the type-model number of your laptop? Should be on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop.

Also try installing the IBM System Update utility: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/TVSU-UPDATE.html

Then run it and download any drivers and software it shows available for your laptop.

Having issues with the wireless capability on my laptop.
It's an Asus, but I don't have a book or anything stating specs. etc. We bought it off a friend.
What I have done.
Troubleshoot
Troubleshoot tells me that the laptop is unable to connect and I should try enabling wifi via a button or FN+F2 (F2 has the wifi icon) This doesn't change anything.
Went to Network and Sharing Centre and disabled the button that stops it connecting when the battery is low.

I am not completely inept when it comes to technical computer stuff, but I am no expert. Any help is appreciated.

Fixed a laptop that hasn't been used since the DC jack broke in March.  Today I finally come around to soldering a new one on and to my surprise [never soldered before xDD] the laptop as booted and it's working.

However I cannot connect to the Internet.  After troubleshooting I am getting the message "Wireless Capabilities are turned off".  I tried using FN+9 to enable wireless but nothing happens.  Also when I go into the Mobility Center it won't let me turn it on as the drop down menu won't appear.

Anyone have any ideas on why this is happening and/or how I can fix this problem?

The Laptop is a Samsung RV510.

Thanks.

A:Wireless Capability Problem

This happens because power management turned off wireless capability when not in use. You can change this setting:
Open Network Connections
Right-click on the wireless connection
Click Configure next to the wireless adapter
Click the Power Management tab
Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
Like this:

Then Reboot.

Being a desktop you would most likely see an antenna coming out of the back of your computer.

You can also look in device manager. If you see only one device under Network Adapters, you most likely only have a wired connection.

Hello whitelighter1972 and Welcome to TSG!

This seems to be an issue with Asus systems. Try uninstalling the Wireless Console 3 Utility and see if the issue is resolved. If you want to reinstall it, you can download it here. ASUS Wireless Switch (Wireless Console3) Utility Just select your OS. But if you do reinstall, the problem will most likely return.

I am working on a Gateway laptop with Windows8. Out of nowhere, an x appears under my wi-fi connection. When I troubleshoot, it informs me that the wireless capability needs to be enabled. Problem is, when I try to go to that area, it is greyed out, leaving me without the option of even resetting anything.

I have even reprogrammed my while computer and have lost everything in the process. Using the function keys do not help. It only switches off and on in airplane mode. Pressing numerous keys didn't work either. I've tried everything under the sun and read every forum known to mankind. Can I please be assisted in fixing this dilemma?

Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter

Hello,

For the last two weeks my laptop has been having troubles with its network adapter (Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter).

Every time my computer starts up from sleep mode or just a normal start up my icon in the bottom right hand corner shows a black box with a plug in it and says no network connection available.

I then proceed by opening up the "Network and Sharing Center," clicking on the "Change Adapter Settings" button in the top left corner, right click on the "Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter" icon and selecting "Diagnose."

The diagnostic runs and asks me if I would like to turn on my wireless capabilities, I click the "Apply Fix" button and it turns on my Adapter.

Good evening,

My laptop wifi keeps going off, everytime I start the computer or wake it up from standby.

It's the same problem as mentionned in this post:
http://forums.techguy.org/networking/1035200-laptops-wireless-capability-keeps-turning.html
... but that post did not include a solution.

The hardware switch is on, which turns the bluetooth on but not the wifi.
The only way to get the wifi back is to run the networking troubleshooter. After a while, the troubleshooter says "Turn on wireless capability", I click the button and I get the wifi back .... until the next time my computer goes to sleep or is switched off.

Thanks for your support,

Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc right click the devmgmt icon in the search results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager open up Network Adapters, do you see a wifi adapter listed there? If not, and it it not listed in the Bios, this computer may not have ever had a wifi adapter.
If it does, go to Start/Search and type ncpa.cpl and press enter. If the wifi adapter is listed here you can right click it and Enable it.

hi,

Im having a problem with my laptops wireless capability; it worked fine, until i tried a hardwried connection (i went over to this center and tried one and it didn't work, so i unplugged it).

Now, I can't connect to any wireless networks unless i do the windows network troubleshooter, which it tells me my laptops wireless capability is turned off; I then have to click on the option to turn wireless capability back on..

I have tried playing in change adapter settings in Network Connections, but nothing is working.. I have tried disabling the LAC and wireless adapter but nothing is working..

I also notice under Local Area Connection that is says "Network cable unplugged". Also in one of the tables of the windows network troubleshooter it shows Network cable unplugged and wireless capability is turned off.. Is my laptop trying to find the hardwire connection all the time so it turns off wireless? How can i fix this :3

A:laptops wireless capability keeps turning off..

I also notice under Local Area Connection that is says "Network cable unplugged".Click to expand...

That's normal and accurate unless you have a cable plugged in. If you do have a cable plugged in probably the NIC or cable is defective. Although it's possible that the ethernet was turned off to save power.

I assume that you are using an integrated wireless adapter. What kind of wireless switch do you have, and is it turned on? Do you also have a utility that can switch the wireless on or off? If so, is it saying "on"?

You need to first make sure that you have a wireless NIC installed on the desktop.

You need to make sure the wireless NIC is enabled in Device Manager.

You need to make sure you have the drivers for this wireless NIC up to date and installed.

You should make sure you are using WPA2 security with AES encryption in your routers settings for the wireless connection. Of course you will need an SSID "name for wireless network" and that you have a wireless password set up.

You need to make sure those settings are reflected in the profile for the wireless connection under Manage Wireless Connection in the Network and Sharing section in Windows.

Hello,

I have a problem with the switch button for my wireless network adapter on my laptop. It doesn't turn the radio on when the laptop restarts. I suppose, it stays on off no matter what the button position is.

So at every boot one has to:
- wait until it fails, (so all programs needing network at startup fail too)
- click on the network icon in the system tray, diagnose and repair
- wait for Vista to work out that there is no wireless connectivity,
- click on turn on wireless connectivity then wait until Vista repairs itself.

After that is works happily until the next reboot.
I repeat - it is not some software option. The on/off switch doesn't work (nor the function key).

Question 1 Can I switch on the connectivity on startup to allow this to
happen seamlessly. Is there a cmd command which I can setup to run at startup.

Question 2 Is there some way of creating a shortcut
which would allow the click of one button rather than going through the
learning experience each time that the connectivity requires to be switched
on.

Thanks for reading

A:Automaticaly turn on wireless capability at startup

First, what type of laptop have you got? What make and model is it?
Have you had a look in your bios to see if there is a default state for the wireless.
My backup laptop has wireless and boots with it is the same state as it was when the system is closed down.
You may have to change the order of things that start up when you switch on your laptop or even put in a delay for some programs so that they do not start untill your laptop is connected to the wireless network.

Yesterday I was uploading some photos from my camera to my laptop. The SD card in the camera has something seriously wrong with it and whenever I put it in my laptop, the sound control opens and closes and a little message with the wifi and Bluetooth symbols with and without red circles with lines through over them. This is usually not a problem as when I take out the card the wifi and Bluetooth resume normally. However this time when I try to connect it says 'windows cannot find any networks'. A diagnosis says 'wireless capability on this computer is turned off. Turn on wireless capability. This can be done by using a switch, which is usually found on the front or side of the computer, or a function key combination.' I've found the switch, on one side it has a circle and on the other it has two arrows like a fast forward symbol followed by what looks like an LED and then an antenna symbol. Obviously the switch is meant to be towards the antenna, which it is. However it is only half way towards it because it slides back to the middle if I push it further to the antenna (this also brings up a 'wi-fi catcher' which is empty.) My investigations into this have found that fn+f2 doesn't do anything and there is no blue antenna symbol on the keyboard. The WLAN card is enabled. In 'dell wireless WLAN card utitlity' it says 'connection status: radio disabled'. Also a diagnostics of the WLAN hardware finds everything is ok. A ... Read more

Hi Guys, some of you might recognize me from the windows 7 forums, this is my first post here. I have never used vista except to help my friends so I am not very familiar with it, but it's very close to the windows 7 interface so it's not that hard to learn.

My friend has Vista and has a problem with her wireless. she has a lenovo R61i Laptop. the router is linksys WRT54GC. randomly the wireless capability gets disabled even though the physical switch is not changed ( is always on ), this happens usually when the PC is restarted or when the router is restarted. sometimes we restart the PC or the router but it doesn't occur, so I cannot re-create the problem easily. I googled a bit and saw some people suggesting this could be because the wireless service is not set to automatic, so I checked services and the only service that seems to have to do with the wireless is the WLAN service, and it is set to automatic and started. all we have to do is just do diagnose and vista will say that the solution to the problem is found , which is to enable the wireless capability, so I click on that and it will enable wireless and everything will work. but for my friend is it confusing as she thinks there is a problem with her internet connection or her router, I told her it is a simple bug with vista ( I think ) and I will look for a solution.

So What else can I check? we had limited time today but tomorerow I will try more things, maybe I will try an update for the wireless driver. btw i... Read more

My daughter has an old Compaq N600c with OS XP professional. When she visits me she would like to use my wireless broadband, however, her laptop does not seem to have a wireless capability. Is there any way we can install a card or something? I opened the silver multiport cover on the laptop lid and there is a green card in there, marked PCB-PC7507 TRANSFB-30D-VER 310.Alternatively, would one of those USB dongle adaptors work? A:Solved: Compaq Evo N600c wireless capability?

You can use a USB wireless adapter. The laptop probably has a PCMCIA slot; if so you can use a PCMCIA (Notebook) card.

I prefer the PCMCIA cards, but USB adapters can be used with almost all computers while PCMCIA adapters are limited to older laptops.

Whatever you buy just make sure it is compatible with XP, and if possible with Windows 7 as it will probably outlast the PC.

Hi

I have a desktop computer, and have a D-Link DWA-510 wireless network adapter installed. Though I cannot pick up any wireless networks even though I know there are wireless networks as my iPhone picks them up.

I have tried the following:

1/ Clicking on the wireless/internet icon (not sure what to called it, it's the icon that brings up network and sharing) located on the bottom right of the bottom task bar. though no networks show up.

2/ Adding a new wirless network via 'Network and Sharing' option - though when windows does a search for networks it never stops searching.

3/ Installing the new drivers from the D-Link website

If I look at the back of the tower the network card that I have the external antenna connected to has one static green light lit. So I gather it is installed correctly as it is lit and it was installed when I brought the computer, although if I go to device manager it is not listed under Networks?!. I have triedto search on turning the wireless capability on though I cannot find a solution that actualy turns it on.

Anyhow hope all that makes some kinda sense please suggest some solutions I could try!

The WIFI card is disabled, the physical button on the laptop is red indicating that it is disabled. When I press it to switch the wifi back on, the switch don?t respond

WWhen I run network diagnostic: error is: Wireless capability is turned off. But I see no option to turn it on.

I checked the network adapters through the Control panel and also in the device manager. They are up and running. No yellow sign, no ?!? marks.
Restarted several times. No change.
Restarted in safe mode. Deleted the device in device manager and reinstalled. No change.
Disabled firewall. No change. (DO I need to restart after disabling?)

Checked the manual for Key combinations to toggle wireless on off. But there were non.
Any ideas? Please help. It may be a key combination that was activated when he punched the keys.

I've looked around online and it seems like there's a problem with the updates. I've tried the suggestion here:

http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-28820-wireless-switch-problem

where it says to delete the third party LAN in the registry but I do not see any third party (or I just don't know what they look like)

Another suggestion I found was a system recovery but I'm iffy to do a full system recovery.. does anybody have any detailed instructions to just recover my wireless adaptor driver or any other suggestions?

Thanks.

I have a pc desktop, pc laptop, and a Macbook. ATT DSL is my IPS, and the router is a D-link DI-624 v. C, and it has the most recent firmware.

I can be on my Mac for hours, and when I turn on my desktop PC, the Mac gets kicked off the wireless network within minutes.

Is it the router?

Don't think it's the Macbook, as I have no problems at hotspots.

I have a dell laptop w XP that was having wireless connection trouble - it would connect to the neighbors wireless but not ours ( was ok the previous week) Tried to get help from AT & T and was instructed to turn off the Intel Proset wireless because it could be conflicting with the Wireless Zero configuration. Now I have no wireless at all since it won't turn back on with fn+f2 which is what was instructed to use to turn it off. Help! Daughter needs desperately for an online class.

A:Wireless got turned off

not sure about dell as loads of options but try to get into bios usually press delete button repeatedly on start up, but you should get flash ups on your screen saying someting like press f10 to enter bios, anyhow once in bios check the internal wirless adapter in turned on, if it is re boot, try turning windows wirless config off, start run, type services.msc scroll down to wirless config and doulble click to disable it, try downloading aprograme called bet stumbler and use that if possible, you may need to download it to another comp save installer and transfer it to dell on a usb stick for example

I have a problem with two of my personal laptops, but not mine or my husband's work laptops. I have a Dell laptop and he has a Toshiba. Mine has Windows XP and his has Vista. So when we are trying to connect to the wireless router sometimes on my computer the internet says wireless turned off, turn back on to connect. But it's not off, at least I didn't turn it off and I can't turn it back on. I just have to sit there for like 15 minutes and hope it turns back on. For his Toshiba we just have to plug it in to the router directly because it never turns back on by itself.
Any ideas? Maybe an update I missed?

When the connection says it is in the wrong state, have you tried toggling it on and off to see if it will correct itself?

AVG identified trojans, vaulted, ran malwarebytes several times until no infections noted, still have big problems, especially when wireless is turned on, 100% CPU usage, freezing programs.

TIA for any help...

Three weeks ago my computer was infected with the google redirect virus and Microsoft Security Essentials could not be reinstalled or opened. Virus removal programs did not manage to remove it until Microsoft support told me to first run rkill. Then they gave a series of virusscanners and fixes to be run and the computer seemed to be itself. I changed from Firefox to Chrome in the hope that browser would be saver. Unfortunately, a week ago, my computer acted strange again, this time by turning the battery loading indicator of and more inconveniently, the wireless lan. By using the on/off wireless lan button, the wireless lan did not work. I restarted in safe mode with networking and that worked. So I turned off most of the start-up processes and the wireless lan runs until the computer has been to sleep. After that only a restart helps the wireless lan to be turned on. I have run several anti-virus programs and in the beginning two trojans were found (sorry, I do not know which because I happily thought that would solve the problem) but did not bring a solution. Microsoft Security Essentials keeps on running this time so Microsoft support does not give help by email this time. I have reset the router to fabric installation but still the problem stays.

I have a Compaq Laptop, Presario F500, and i've had it for approximately over 2 years... When i first got it of course everything worked and was fine. First and foremost, my problem is that my laptop will not register any wireless connections, and despite the wireless switch being turned on, instead of the color BLUE showing, indicating the laptop can connect wirelessly, (not a word lol) the actual color that is showing is AMBER despite my constant battles with it. Therefore, i cannot connect wirelessly to the internet. And my computer runs slow even though i've done a disk cleanup and a disk defrag. I have an external hard drive and i've taken almost everything off and put it on that, but that seemed to not do anything really. I called Microsoft to help and they knew the problem and how to fix it immediately!!! but at the end of saying all of that, they way talking about charging me $139.99.... I said < no thanks > . lol i previously had Norton Antivirus and all that good stuff. (Symantec and whatnot) but i took that off because of the subscription being expired, thinking that was part of the problem. And i installed McAfee. Idk if i should've did that or not but i did. but I'm looking for some more help and if anybody can find it in their heart to try and help me... Because i've been having this problem for over a year and have been trying to fix it myself. And i KNOW it's possible, but i just need some guidance is all... So if you k... Read more

I've picked up some piece of malware I believe that has turned off my wireless adapter. The physical switch is turned on and Fn+f2 does not work to get it turned on. I have scanned with: Malwarebytes, Avast Antivirus, Spybot, and was running Online Armor firewall a the time of infection. Spybot did find several and all were removed. I was downloading things I should not have, and I know better. It is a fairly recent install of windows. I have release and renewed IP and flushed the DNS. Ethernet LAN connection had worked previous, now it is doing exactly what the wireless is. Wireless drivers are up to date. Any help would be appreciated!

Just bought a Gateway MX6453. I have DSL at home, with a wireless modem. In order to get online, each time the laptop has been closed, I need to start Wireless Zero Configuration. Under properties, it is set for startup type=automatic.

Then I have to go to Open Network Connections, Properties, Wireless Networks, and check "use windows to configure my wireless settings". It is always unchecked when the computer is restarted.

How do I set this up so it really is automatic? On the old laptop, it connects automatically when the card is in and you turn the laptop on.

Tried one office yesterday that has a secure network, you need to type in a key each day. Even after going through all of the above, my laptop couldn't even see the network, although the laptop 2 feet away was online fine.

Is there some firewall or something resetting these settings? I thought I uninstalled all the McAffee stuff that came with the laptop, just using Windows firewall and AVGfree antivirus.

New laptop also has bluetooth, is that what is causing this issue?

Thanks!

A:New laptop, wireless needs to be turned on each time?

Probably your wireless adapter's utility is also running. Please see this thread: http://forums.techguy.org/networking/507204-solved-strange-wireless-network-problem.html
