I have a toshiba portege z930 pt234e With Windows 7 Professional
I connected the external optical drive and was running fine
But when I installed the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator, the external optical drive disappeared
When I open the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator, Shows, No HDD Recovery Area!
I want to make a Recovery disk of the system

The Recovery Media Creator is an Toshiba tool which requires the Toshiba image files in order to create the recovery disk. The image files are placed on a different partition called HDD recovery partition.

If the HDD has been modified or this partition deleted, the recovery media creator will not be able to find the image files and you will not be able to create such disk.

So my question is: did you reinstall the Win 7 at your own hand? Did you modify the HDD in the past?

Hello,

I used Toshiba Recovery Media Creator to create 2 recovery media on USB flash drive for my Z930-10P. Then I removed all partitions from the computers SSD. The problem is that the recovery process won't work. This happens:

1. 'Windows is loading files' is displayed on the screen
2. 'Starting Windows' and the Windows 7 animation logo is displayed.
3. Then the marker is shown for a couple of seconds before...
4. An error message *ERROR : F3-F100-0008* is displayed with the instruction 'Please press OK to turn off the computer.'

I have tried both USB flash drives. What does this error mean?

Unfortunately I don?t know what this error code exactly mans but on different forums people speculate about some HDD, memory or recovery image failure.

In your situation proper answer will not help at all. Problem is that you cannot use created recovery USB sticks and at the same time you?ve made biggest mistake and removed recovery image saved on the SSD. Now it is not possible to start HDD/SSD recovery image installation.

Question is: what you can do now? You can try to contact nearest Toshiba service provider, explain the situation and ask for help or good advice. Other way you must order original recovery installation disc for recovery image installation.

Hi

i cant seem to uninstall Recovery Media Creator everytime i try to uninstall it i seem to get a red x error message with error code (-5005 : 0x80070002),

I think this was caused by system restore it may have removed a file in the trusted installer folder, i have literally tried everything i know of but cant seem to remove it.

I have got all my recovery so i was trying to remove it because of that and it kind of annoys me when i cant remove a program i have no idea how to manually remove programs but i do have a bit of knowledge with operating systems so if theres any advice on that would be great.

Hi i have had this problem for a week or so i keep getting a error when trying to uninstall this program i think this happened because i had to restore a week ago and since then it wont remove through programs and features, i have tried a few third party uninstalls but they wouldnt work either i have posted on another forum but havnt found a solution yet this is what i have said:

I have problem with my Toshiba and I cant report it due to Toshiba website error.
When I'm on this site: http://www.toshiba.pl/innovation/pl/generic/pc-support/ and I enter serial numer of my PORTEGE Z930-14D which is 8D032137H nothing happens. The page which will appear is blank, and I cant check even the status on guarantee.

after upgrading my Toshiba Port?g? Z20T from preinstalled Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 (using Windows Update) I cannot create a recovery USB stick (using Toshiba Recovery Media Creator) any more. After starting the Toshiba software and confirming administrator rights I get the message ?No HDD recovery area! The Toshiba Recovery Media Creator cannot be launched.? (Here in German: ?Kein HDD-Wiederherstellungsbereich! Toshiba Recovery Media Creator kann nicht gestartet werden.?) Before upgrading to Windows 10 I successfully created a recovery USB stick from this computer.
I did not format or re-partition the disk. This is the current partition list, created using DISKPART:

I have installed the latest Version 3.3.00.8502 of Toshiba Recovery Media Creator.
Is the software working on your Windows 10 computer?

Hello!

I have a Toshiba Portege Z930-D3S laptop. I wanted to run a system recovery and did everything exactly as in the manual http://forums.toshiba.com/tshb/attac.../1/Z930_EN.pdf page 4-24, Section System recovery Options. The tool told me that the recovery partition is empty (or something like this) and the recovery cannot be performed. I definitely did not erase it and do not how it can be. Then there was an option to erase sdd and I thought that this might help (don't ask me why) and that the tool would erase everything but the recovery partition. So, I chose it.

Now I have the frozen screen with "Toshiba Leading Innovation" and cannot enter any menu neither by pressing 0, nor by holding F8. I cannon restart the laptop, it seems that it simply fall asleep when I press the power button.

Please, help me to recover the system.

I have done the WIN 8 upgrade on a Toshiba L870-156 laptop. The upgrade is OK, but I have no more Toshiba recovery media creator, as the upgrade procedure said that it had to be desinstalled before the upgrade and reinstalled after the upgrade.

You need to install the Windows 8 version of the Recovery Disc creator. I think it's generic so grab it from the drivers page of one of the new Win8 model notebooks.

Very disappointed with the response from Toshiba over an issue we are having with the Z Series laptops.

Let me explain - I am responsible for the laptops at a large college in the south of the UK. We have round 40 Series laptops and on a large number of them the screws which hold he hinge covers in place have come out and become lost, in many cases the hinge covers have come off and been lost as well. The first thing that crossed out minds was 'interference' by students but as no other screws were found to be lose the only conclusion we can come to is that that there is a design fault and these hinge cover screws have worked lose over time and fallen out.

I am currently working through all our Z Series laptops and I am finding more and more lose or missing screws and additional missing hinge covers. We have bought this to the attention of Toshiba but they will not accept there is an issue - but haven't yet provided a reason why this should be happening in such numbers.

As can be imagined we are not best pleased with their response and would like to hear from anyone who has had the same issue. At over 50.00 GBP to fix each pair of hinges, you can imagine how quickly the costs are rising.

I have toshiba portege Z930 and my function keys worked until I have installed YAC (Yet another cleaner) to get rid of some malware, that worked, but the problem is that even after uninstalation, function keys got broken:

FN + y/z which should highlith the keyboard is not working (I've installed something called "Function Key" so that works for now, as well with FN 1,FN 3,FN 4, and 3+4 for volume)

but others doesn't simply work:
FN + ESC (mute)
FN + F2 (eco mode)
FN + F5 (monitor switch)
FN + F8 (wifi/bluetooth switch
FN + F9-12

Could anybody point me to right drivers for that? Thanks a lot

What Windows system is installed?
In case of Windows 7 you must install Toshiba Value Added Package
In case of Win 8.1 you need to install the Toshiba System settings.

But note: some FN key functionality depends on the 3rd software. For example you will not be able to use the FN+F2 eco mode if ECO Utility isn?t installed.

But why you don?t set the OS back to early time point before you used the cleaner tool?

Hello. This is my first time in this forum.

But to get to the main point, I have lost but recovered the Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator.ink file to a temporary location on the c: drive.

But it still doesn't seem to be working.

Here is some information on my laptop:

Toshiba L300-1BV

Intel® Celeron Processor 1.66Ghz

2GB Memory

Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family Graphics Card

So except from using the f8 button and selecting repair your computer and then selecting Toshiba HDD recovery Utility, is there any other button that can restore my computer to its origional factory state?

I have a Toshiba Portege M200 Tablet PC. It has no built-in or external CD-ROM/DVD or Floppy drives. It has bios settings that will allow it to boot from HDD, FDD, CD-ROM, or LAN. I have the Toshiba Recovery DVD from the manufacturer. The Toshiba support site lists the supported external CD/DVD drives that will work with the recovery disk. I don’t have any of these and I am trying to use a generic DVD drive with an IDE to USB adapter. I am able to connect the DVD drive (with this adapter) to a computer running XP and I am able to access DVD’s on that computer. The recovery disk has instructions that tell me to use an external DVD drive (to perform the recovery) but isn’t as specific as the website as to which DVD drive to use. As a side note: the instructions do say that the drive cannot be formatted in NTFS. I think that I just need to find a way to copy the sys files onto the hard drive and then copy a generic DVD driver onto the hard drive so I can access the DVD when it is attached to the Tablet PC. I would greatly appreciate any experience or suggestions as to how I might get this to work without having to buy one of these specific DVD drives that the Toshiba Site suggests.

I thought I should add; I have hooked the tablet hard drive up to the desktop as a primary hard drive and tried formatting it, copied the sys files over and windows 98 startup files to the drive. Then I put the hard drive back into the tablet, hooked up the external DVD drive and powered on the laptop. It errors out stating that it cannot connect to the external drive.

I am trying to use "Recovery Media Creator" loading on to a 16Gig USB drive.
The program instructs me to insert a USB flash drive greater than 12 Gig which I do.

It then says that the drive will be formatted and then comes up with "Format Failed (Error Code: 040E49-04-00000000)" and the USB drive becomes unreadable. Using Windows & Disc Management tool I can then format the drive and use it becomes useable except for "Recovery Media Creator".

I have formatted as FAT32, NTFS and exFAT but none work.
I have tried two USB flash drives, both behave the same.

As far as I can tell, there are no partitions on the drive and I have successfully used "Recovery Media Creator" on one of the drives in the past. I want the files to restore another computer, something else that I have done successfully before.

I can burn the data using DVDs but the DVDs didn't work so I want to try the USBs. I have read a few threads along these lines but have not found any answers so far. I am sure that there is a simple explanation but I can't find it.

Usually the creation of the Recovery medium using the USB flash stick should work properly.

I read in some other threads that the preinstalled antivirus software could cause similar problems… so I recommend you to disable antivirus and any other security software… then it should work

Other guys said that deleting the partition completely and creating a new simple volume would also work.

Updated my Satellite Z830 to windows 8. In order to do that I had to uninstall the recovery program.
I thought that the program would be reinstalled when running the Toshiba upgrade Assistant - but that did not happen.

Attempted to upgrade to Windows 10 and it's completely bricked my laptop - cannot access files, cannot rollback, cannot use an alternative system, cannot repair, nothing!

Looks like I need to format (I have a backup of my personal files anyway), and then do a fresh install, but I have no windows installation disk.

Looking online, it looks like I need the official one from Toshiba (I have my windows key on the bottom of the laptop), but don't know how to get it from Toshiba.

This means that the recovery media creator software cannot find the image files which are stored on the HDD recovery partition.
Why?
There are different reasons for that…

One of the reasons could be the missing HDD recovery partition or the files (image files) have been deleted…

I have a Portege Z930 ultrabook. A day or two back the display suddenly appeared to be permanently off. However, if I look carefully I can see that the image is there but VERY, VERY dimly. It is as if the light has been turned off (although since the screen is LED that will not be the case).

I was able to source a replacement screen but that made no difference.

The video card on the motherboard is working - at least to the extent that I can plug in an external monitor and see everything correctly.

I'm wondering if a hardware switch has inadvertently been triggered and I'm missing the setting. Or I suppose it could be a witch which turns the display off when the lid is closed which has become faulty...

The Z930 has been running Windows 8.1 very happily for the past year or so.

I'm hoping that there will be something simple rather than a motherboard failure...

In my opinion it is hardware related issue and has nothing to do with settings.
In the past we have had many threads with the same or similar problems and describes issue was related to the defective FL inverter.

The mSATA connector looks very similar to miniPCI connector but they are totally different.
So your only solution is to replace the HDD with a 2.5" SATA SSD.

Along time ago when the computer was new, I started the Recovery Media Creator but I think someone shut the computer down before the process was completed and I haven?t tried it again until now.

So I have a Toshiba Portege r500 with no H/d & a second one for parts. When I went to take the H/D and pop it in I realized the H/D hook-up cables are different. The "parts laptop" has a "FMUSH1" cable connecting it to the sata drive. The newer Portege has a cable labeled " FMUPH2" (I'm assuming for an SSD?)

My Question is....Can easily swap them somehow or is there an adapter/converter possibly?

A:Fmuph2 HDD Cable Issue (Toshiba Portege R500)

So with more research I'm thinking I have a ZIF Tape (Cable) that previously connected to a 1.8 SSD which I now need to convert to a 2.5 sata connection.
I ordered a 24-Pin ZIF to SATA Adapter Connector Card off eBay. It comes with its own "ribbon" (Tape/cable whatever) as shown in the pic. Will I need to replace the ZIF from my mobo with it? or is it simply in case "you" need it?
Also just wondering could I have swapped out the sata ribbon (Fmush1) with the ZIF ribbon (Fmuph2) where they connect to the MoBo instead? (It's extremely difficult to get to on this model and the "clips" seem very fragile so I avoided attempting it)

Hi,

I am trying to install Windows 7 ultimate on my Toshiba Portege M400 and having issues. It is currently running Windows XP tablet edition. I start the installation and I first:

1. Go online to get the latest updates for installation
2. I click custom installation. (not upgrade)
3. It ask me where I want to install windows and my Disk drive: DISK 0 PARTITION 1: TABLET-OS(C shows up. I try to click on it and can't click next. There is a message at the bottom that I click on that states: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. Windows needs the driver for device [Toshiba RAID]. Click load driver and load the required device driver.
4. I click load driver and browse to driver that I have downloaded:
drivers I have downloaded: util_hdd_protection, util_raid_virtual_device, driver_raid_TC00170000B.EXE
5. I get the message "no device driver were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and the click ok.
6. I can't get passed this point. I have downloaded every driver on Toshiba's website that has to do with HDD or raid drivers. It looks like all the device drivers that I am downloading are .exe files and not the actually driver. I have called Toshiba and the are useless.

Please help!!!

Hello,

I just buyed a Z930 Portege from Toshiba with Win7 Pro installed and 2 DVD with WIN8 upgrade.

Perfect, till I tried to make the upgrade. I changed in BIOS to UEFI and secure BOOT, started the computer with first DVD inside the DVD reader and nothing happend.

Then I started to search on the forum and find out that two other guys succeded with the update according to the paper notice of Toshiba (changing the BIOS and secure boot).

What I can do because main does not work.

Please give me an advice.
It is 12Gmodel, Core i5 vPro

*Solved the issue.*

Just do the changes in BIOS.
Restart and wait till you got the message: restore to the factory setting.

Chose this option, put the DVD1 with W8 from Toshiba in the external ODD and follow the onscreen advices. Just one will be, with changing the DVD1 with the second one.

That is it. You have W8.

Now we want to upgrade to Win 8.
There were two Win8 DVDs supplied.

Can I use this DVDs for upgrade?
How should I use the DVDs without a drive?

I tried the DVD with another laptop and the DVDs are not bootable.

I assume you cannot use them if you have not external CD/DVD drive?

Maybe you could borrow such drive from a friend?

Otherwise try to copy the content of the disk to a USB flash memory stick and then try to boot from the stick.
But to be honest, I?m not quite sure it this would functions.

I installed W10 on my Protege Z-930 and it ran perfectly. During December Windows Update automatically installed a major upgrade for W10 and now the fan runs constantly, even when the laptop starts and CPU is very cold.
Can somebody help me ?

Hi,

I have a Portege Z930 laptop with an SSD drive. Recently it would not boot into Windows 7. It just hangs at the "Starting Windows" screen.

I removed the hard drive and connected it to another computer via USB. This was ok, i could see all the files, so i formatted it and put it back into the laptop.

When i boot it up now is still hangs at "Starting Windows. This is confussing, as the hard drive has been formatted, and has nothing on it.

Any help please.

I have a Portege Z930-14L with 8GB memory and wonder what is the maximal memory I can add ? I saw the following in the description, but I don't understand if that means the maximum is 12GB(4GB onboard + 8GB expansion) or 16GB ( 2x8GB)

maximum expandability : 8,192 MB
technology : DDR3 RAM (1,600 MHz)

If I understand this info right your Portege has already maximum RAM.
Fact is that your Portege notebook can handle with max 8GB memory. ON board there are already 4GB and there is only one RAM slot available for upgrade that also contains one 4GB RAM module.
With other words your notebook has already maximum RAM and upgrade is not possible.

Hi, new to this forum. I have a Portege z930-14D laptop with 64 bit system with Intel Core i5-3437U processor and Windows 7 professional. I was using an external screen till recently. When i stopped using it, i noticed that the function key for display brightness wasn't working. When i pressed fn key and f6 or f7, brightness setting came up but i could change the brightness. All other fn key related operations were fine. I saw some online forums for this problem and followed their recommendation around upgrading diplay driver and value added pack from the UK support website of Toshiba. Also clicked on restart flash cards. Nothing seems to have worked and now the fn key itself has stopped working i.e., nothing happens when i press fn key and i cannot perform any operations using fn key. Please suggest what could be a solution to this problem. Thanks.

Hi,

I recently bought a Z930 laptop, and I was thinking on upgrading the RAM memory.

I wanted to buy a 8gb DIMM, but I noticed on the specs that the maximum memory allowed is 6 gb (that means a 4gb DIMM + 2gb on the motherboard). Is this a motherboard restriction or similar? If not, would the laptop run with 10gb of memory?

The max says 4GB but you may be able to get an 8GB module working if it's decent RAM that has the correct channels. But if something goes wrong and damages the mainboard I doubt Toshiba would repair it under warranty, so I think the best thing to do is stick with the recommended maximum. 6GB is plenty anyway unless you are doing heavy graphical/media creation.

My Toshiba Portege Z930-108 laptop has stopped to boot with any RAM module installed in socket.

If I remove RAM module, laptop boots and works fine, but if I install any RAM module (original 4Gb 1600 or a new 4G 1600 CL9 or 8G 1600 CL11) computer cannot boot.

The screen stays black and power led is blinking two green and two orange, and some seconds after, 3G indicator also on in blue.

This is the only problem that I have with this computer, but it's strange.

I have updated BIOS to last version and problem is not solved.

I have tried to reset hardware (http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB3B03J90000R01.htm), also I have tried to reset hardware with power button pressed 30 seconds without battery but no success.

Any idea about this strage problem?

I guess you used wrong or not fully compatible RAM modules.
This is only one plausible explanation.

I would recommend you to order the RAM modules recommended by Toshiba which are:

Hello,

after 3yrs without problems the SSD in my Portege Z930-108 crashed. I could still copy the D partition (HDDRecovery) but no system or data partition.
When substituting the SSD with a newer version (Samsung 850 EVO) the right screw (Z930 oriented bottom up and sound connectors to the right) accidentially droped on the main board just next to the SSD. There was a short blue flash and afterwards the batteries do not seem to work any more. The system is running plugged into net without problems but no buffering by batteries happens any more.
Do I have to exchange the whole mainboard or is there some work around possible?

Second is there a way to recover the original drivers/system from the copied D partition without a Toshiba Recovery wizard or is there a download of this wizard?

You could use an external USB CD/DVD drive in order to boot from Win 8 disks.

Or you will try to install the Win 8 using an USB flash memory sik.
But in order to be able to install the Win 8 from USB flash memory stick an Win 8 ISO (image) files is needed.
Additionally you have to create an bootable USB stick. You can do this using the ?Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool?

our company bought a Toshiba Portege Z930-14X and it is necessary to do a clean Windows 7 Install.

Unfortunatly there is no working Windows 7 key to be found anywhere on the device.
I did read out the key from the original installation, but this key is not supposed to be activated, hence doesn't work for clean installation.

Usually there is a licence sticker at the bottom of the device, but this laptop has nothing whatsoever.

So, where do I find that Windows 7 key?

If you want to use an clean Windows system, you have to purchase the MS Windows disk containing the serial key.
The Toshiba notebooks are preinstalled with Toshiba image containing the OEM version of Windows system and the drivers. This image is already activated. The serial key isn?t needed.

I've just upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 (64) on my Portege Z930 (Part number: PT235R-08JOJERU)

Unfortunately, there are several issues that are not working properly:

- My function keys are not working at all (TOSHIBA Function Key v. 1.1.15.4 is installed)- Bluetooth is not working (TOSHIBA System Driver v. 1.01.0002 is installed)

Besides I?m seeing in Device Manager 3 unrecognized devices:

I want deploy a "standard-Image" for all 20 Notebooks (Windows 7, sysprep) -
my question is about the windows7 key aktivation

If I clone a W7 OS to another Portege, there is still the same W7 Serial number (checkt it with script; w7 is still activated). (Serial Key for W7/W8 integrated on system board?!).

May i run into troubles when doing the "rollout" in the way i described above?

Fact is that if you need 20 Microsoft Windows 7 licenses if you want to use Windows 7 on 20 notebooks.

My daughter was using the above PC the other day, when suddenly it would no longer boot.

I've now tried to do a system restore to a backup I did a few weeks ago, but the system is reporting that the computer is using BIOS, but the backup was done with EFI

Unfortunately, on the bios settings page, I don't have secure boot listed under security.
In addition, on the system configuration page, the computer is listing the BIOS as being CSM mode.

Worse, there is no option to change that mode, as I can't select that entry.

I've now cleaned my hard disk partition, and done a system restore from the recovery media I created, but it still hasn't helped.

How can I reenable UEFI Boot/Secure boot? There must be a way.
I spent an hour on the phone with "Toshiba Expert Care", and they've now suggested I have a hardware fault.
I'd happily replace the SSD, if I thought that would fix the problem, but it looks like the problem is elsewhere.

I'm new to forums so please forgive me if I don't give enough information! I have two issues with my Portege Z930 that have been bugging me for months, if not longer. The first, and more longstanding issue is with the touchpad. Every so often it disables itself for no reason, and without warning. I quickly learned to press Function F9 and it comes back on again.

However, recently it was becoming more and more common (every couple of minutes) which led me to reinstall back to factory settings. Since then, it has been disabling a lot less frequently (once every few hours) but it still does it!

The other issue is with the device disconnect sound. This keeps on playing regardless of whether I have anything connected or not.
It was driving me crazy until I learned I could simply disable the sound effect which I have done (but clearly this is not a solution).
was hoping that this would be cleared up by the restoring of Window 7 to factory settings but if anything, its been worse since.

This has been going on for a few months now and I have tried everything I've read (although I'm not that tech literate so I may not have understood a lot of what I've read!).

I've looked in event viewer but there doesn't seem to be a record of anything happening when the noise occurs. In device manager, the screen does seem to refresh shortly after the noise but there's no way of knowing which device is causing ... Read more

I've upgraded to Windows 8 through the Windows' website, as I didn't know about the Toshiba's upgrade tool.

I've run the ToshibaUpgradeAssistant.exe, downloaded on the dedicated page for my laptop, but I'm stuck to the ?PA number? form. I've got a Portege R830-10U, Part No PT320E-XXXXXXXXXX. But when asked for this very PA number, the software doesn't recognize the ?PT320E? (first 6 characters).

What do I do wrong? Does this software work with my laptop?

If you use Win8.1 you can use Functional kez on two ways and change two modes:
-special function mode
-standard F1-F12 mode

There is one difference. When you use special function mode you can use F keys only. With standard mode you must use FN+Fx key combination.

Flash cards that you can see at the top of the screen works with Vista or Win7 only. As far as I know since Win8 flash cards are not shown on the top of the screen anymore.

I have the laptop since July 2013. At the beginning I had a good autonomy, the battery was lasting 6 hours, which with time diminished to something like 4 hours.
Now, I've been using the laptop plugged for some time, and I discovered a week ago that I have a huge capacity loss, around 55%. The strange thing is that this got much worse in few days, and now the loss is at 77%.

Besides buying a new battery (which I will do in the future - btw, any tutorial on how to change it?), what can I do? this loss of capacity is permanent? I've been measuring it with an acpi tool.

My TOSHIBA (ex-laptop) Portege(Z930) board burned out with hot water. I removed the tiny SSD and now need to transfer the data with a USB to another PC.

I borrowed from a friend a SATA to USB adapter with 2 interfaces and even the small connectors for SATA was not small enough for TOSHIBA's SSD. Apparently I need a special SATA to USB adapter which fits to TOSHIBA Portege's mSata.

The reason I wrote here is because there are many SATA USB adapters in internet advertised but it seems they have bigger connectors. So TOSHIBA calls the SSD mSATA labeled on it, but many people call mSATA for one size bigger SSD.

I don't want to order something doesn't fit again. Is there anyone who already removed SSD from Portege?
Could you provide me a link for such adapter?

The notebook was equipped with an HM77 Intel Panther Point chip and with the launch of this chip Intel allowed the notebook manufacturers to integrate the mSATA (micro SATA) SSD form factor.

There is also an difference between the mSATA form factors?
Since the mSATA is limited to four (NAND) chips only, Intel has developed a new standard of mSATA which is called m.2 or mSATA2.

In many cases this is called also NGFF (New Generation Form Factor)
This m.2 standard is longer and has a lower profile?

I'm not quite sure if this Portege Z930 supports mSATA or mSATA2 but you check the internal SSD drive where this information should be available

31.Oct.2012 we purchased Portege Z930-G1S (PT234R) - quite an expensive notebook with Win7 Home Premium OS.

We thought we are entitled to Win8 discounted upgrade, but as we entered our data on Microsoft site - they told us we're not entitled.

We tried to reach Toshiba support in Russia - http://ru.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/contact_toshiba.jsp
Several times over a month.

But all the mails are returning with "invalid recepient address" error.

How can it be that official Toshiba support site enlists invalid blacklisted address ?
How can it be that recent and quite expensive Toshiba notebook is not subject to Windows 8 upgrade program ?

The point is that you have to order Windows 8 from Microsoft and install it.
If it fails contact Microsoft why the Win 8 order has failed.

From my knowledge Toshiba provides an Win 8 drivers. You can get this drivers using TOSHIBA Upgrade Assistant but you can do that after Win 8 has been installed!

After many months biding my time I have just embarked upon upgrading my Portege Z930-11G to Windows 8 Pro.

Largely this has gone to plan with the exception that after running the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant I've lost the Fn key display and about half the keys no longer seem to function at all.

The only key I ever used routinely is the Fn+F8 option to turn WiFi on/off.

So now I cannot enable the WiFi on the machine.

There must, surely, be a mean to do this but I can't find it. Does anyone have a suggestion? I'm OK for now as I have a wired LAN in the house but once I get out on the road I'm going to struggle without WiFi.

Before running the upgrade assistant the Fn key brought the key display up across the top of the screen and I surely wish I'd turned WiFi on at that point.

The Fn key utility offers very little control of the Fn keys. It does not offer the ability to do anything other than disable five on screen notifications for keyboard backlight, power plan, touch pad, cursor overlay and numeric overlay.

All help gratefully received.

I can't scroll any more and also the momentum setting I used before seems not to be working any longer.

I am trying to recover factory default software on my Toshiba Satellite L775D-S7132.
I received the 4 disks from Toshiba 3 days ago & have been trying to load it, however on the last disk near the end it comes up (Can't read from the source file or disk) with options of -Try Again, Skip, or Cancel. I have tried all with no favorable results.
When I turn it on without booting from disk it gets hung on - Initializing the partition. Please wait.
Any help would be welcome.

Sometimes you can "fix" a bad CD/DVD by copying it to a blank CD and using that disk to do the installation. The last disk is probably bad. The optical drive could also be bad, although since it worked for the first 3 disks it is probably good.

Have you tried using the recovery partition on the hard drive? Have you tried burning new recovery discs?

My old HDD got fried, but thankfully a friend had the same laptop (Toshiba satelite c660d) running windows 7 and kindly made me a recovery USB with toshiba recovery media creator.
Next I put in a new HDD (an old working 80gb that i had laying around) and booted up. It went through to the toshiba restore utility and it formatted the HDD but then a short while after starting to copy the files the screen said that there was not enough room on the disk.
Plugging the HDD to another computer I found that the utility created three partitions on the disk (400mb, 78gb and 900mb) the 900 mb (labled recovery partition) had been populated almost fully with files.
I tried expanding the 900mb partition but i was unable to.
Next I erased the 900mb partition and created a new 10gb partition, however when I tried to install again it just reformatted again creating a small 900mb partition - back to square 1!

Most of what i could see on the various forums spoke about re-installing over an existing os but not much about using a new HDD. I saw something about pressing 0 when switching on but it doesnt do anything for me.

Can anyone help???

Hello

My ultrabook won't charge, feels like out of the blue, I did have to wiggle the connector in a bit in the last few months but a handful of times while using sitting on a sofa so didn't think anything wrong.

It has been very wet here in Dublin and I do travel by bike but that's nothing new, I haven't been caught in a downpour, the laptop is always in its "case logic" case and my bag carrier has a special laptop section and waterproof overcover which I use if vague threat of rain.

As its an ultrabook, I now realise I cannot remove the battery without a screwdriver.

I'm a mature medical student, my uni doesn't cover laptop support.

i've probably an hour left on the battery. I will put in a warm place overnight and I am kind of up the creek if no resolution

Any help greatly appreciated

How stupid can be the guys that Developed Toshiba Recovery Media Software?

1- I went to use this software to create an image of my Toshiba for safety;
2- In the options the software had selected USB flash that I assumed to be the USB flash 32GB that I had inserted on the USB door;
3- The software formatted my internal SD card instead of my USB flash 32GB.

Conclusion:
All my work and emails from the last month completely lost, how stupid can be the developers of this software, that instead of formatting my USB flash, it formatted my internal SD card?

My toshiba ultra book Z930 won't turn on. Yesterday it got damp when water leaked from a water bottle in my bag where the computer was.Only the yellow light blinks.

I bought it in april2012.
I use windows 8 and generally but not always use it with an A3 screen.
Is there anything I can do to save the data and/or switch it on.

did it actually get wet ?, i suspect it did

i would allow it to completely dry out - maybe putting in an airing cupboard or somewhere warm

then take the battery out and the power adapter and hold the power key on for 60 seconds

if it still does not work , i suspect the pc has been damaged

to recover the data - you maybe able to remove the harddrive and then using an adapter - plug it in to a USB port on another PC and access the files

Hi,

I'm having trouble fixing a Satellite C50-A Laptop, which was running Windows 8.1.

The main issue is a 'no bootable disk' error message.

The secondary issue, which is stopping me solving the first issue, is difficulty using the Toshiba USB recovery disk.

Any suggestions or advice on either of these problems would be much appreciated.

Troubleshooting this PC so far........................

The laptop has only had 13 months of light use.

I have no idea what caused the initial issue, but it's now giving a 'no bootable disk' error message.

( I'm not at all clear on how these recovery partitions are supposed to work. And I'm not familiar with UEFI / Secure Boot etc. Does this error message mean that the boot partition and the recovery partition both became corrupted simultaneously? Or are there some main boot files which might have become corrupt? )

I used a Linux live CD to access the drive, read-only, and managed to recover data. This would suggest to me that CD, CPU and RAM are all working okay, and the disk is still accessible. I'm not sure if this is a correct assumption.

It looks as if Windows has got itself mangled during some quick hibernate process, but I'm not competent enough to troubleshot a Toshiba partition / Windows 8.1 corruption issue from Linux.

So I reset the BIOS after using the Linux CD, and purchased a Toshiba USB Recovery stick.

Ideally, I'd like to just repair Windows, if that is all that is broken, and leave everything else as it was. ... Read more

I bought the upgrade from 7 to 8 during the promotional offer in early 2013, but until now I was waiting for a better moment to perform the upgrade. I'm trying to do the upgrade having prepared a USB pen with the ISO I downloaded in 2013.

However, after 20 minutes of work, around 99% it says that the Upgrade was unsuccessful.

I've read somewhere that it could be because of the recovery partition of my Portege.

Does anyone have faced similar problems?
Please, consider that I'm trying to perform an upgrade, instead of a clean install.

As I’m not mistaken the Portege Z930 was sold with a preinstalled Windows 7 but the additional Windows 8 DVD should be part of the package.

Ok, so things have gone to pot and I don't know where the fault lies between a damned virus and my own mistakes in trying to fix the laptop.
I have a Toshiba Satellite A505-S69803; serial number Y9340538Q, with Windows 7, 500Gb HDD at 5400rpm and 4Gb RAM... I think that's all correct.
Anyway, long story short, I got a b!tch of a virus, which apparantly was doing all sorts of nasty things to the explorer.exe file in particular. So I backed up all my important stuff: files, Uni work, writings, music and photos etc onto an external hard-drive and went about restoring the laptop to out-of-box factory settings by making the Windows 7 Recovery Media Discs. But when I try to use the discs I get told after about 30 minutes The Toshiba Recovery Wizard "Can't read from the source file or disk: PREINST5.SW5" with options to: Try Again (The same thing happens), or Skip (Same message again), or Cancel (in which case I'm back where I started).
After the Recovery Wizard failed I chose the option to erase the hard-drive; it then appeared that when I turn on the laptop as normal I was told <Error>: F3-F200-0002 and the Recovery Media Disks still refuse to work.

Now, if I turn on the laptop as normal a message t
elling me to insert the installation disc, choose language and click "repair your computer". So I put in the recovery disc and get the same message.
Toshiba can't help as my A505 is an American model in Britain and out of warran... Read more

Sorry, not meaning to sound sarcastic, I just expected a bit of help; even if it was to tell me I had been idiotic screwed it up myself and may as well throw the laptop away!

Regardless, I am only replying today to say that I believe the problem has resolved itself. I was able to use an image of Windows XP to place drivers and an OS on the hard drive. From there I was able to use the Recovery Discs afforementioned, which have now worked and I have Win7 back up and running. It wasn't as simple as I just made it sound because I don't really understand how I have fixed it, but fixed it I have.

I have installed Windows XP on my Toshiba so I can use my WIFI Router. XP installed OK, but does not see the CDROM which plugs into the PC card slot. This meets I can not install anything on CDROM's.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Ok so my keyboard is no longer working. I can't log in to even try to troubleshoot and my fingerprint password is not recorded. Every time I press on certain keys like th "O" it beeps continuously but my mouse and pad works. How the heck do I fix this? Is there a way to unlock the keypad? Should I take it apart? It all started when this new-to-me machine, which was dropped several weeks ago to seemingly no ill effect on anything but the case, froze as it seemed to be going into slleep mode. Or maybe hibernation. In any case the Teletubbies-green hills were the only thing on the screen, when I decided to power the machine off...as it had been sitting that way for several minutes, something it had never done. A few seconds later after depressing the power button, it was off. Maybe twenty minutes later, I turned the laptop back on again. But this time no Windows XP Pro SP2 startup screen, just the following error, after and while hearing the hard drive repeatedly do a short seek:

Or something very similar. At any rate, the machine would restart after a few minutes of showing this and repeat the process: BIOS boot screen, black screen, error screen.

So I have a few questions:
1. Do I have a bad 1.8" 40GB hard disk on my hands? If so, where to get a new one? An iPod? Maybe a $350 classic's 160 gig would work? Or maybe I could run GRC's SpinRite on the drive?
2. How would I access the drive to either fix the boot.ini, scan it with SpinRite or other software, reinstall Windows, etc.? I didn't get an optical or other drive with this eBay purchase and I didn't see anything in the BIOS for USB booting...does that mean... Read more

I recently purchased a Portege ct 7000 lap-top for college used for about $100. it works great in al respects other than the battery. When I recharged it it would onlytake a 30% charge and and after repeated recharging this is degrading. I have priced batteries on several websites and most cost more than what I paid for the whole kit.

I have found several off brand batteries for non-Ct series portege 7000 models that look almost identical to mine. Will these work or do I need a CT series battery?

I have been given a working Toshiba Portege 3020CT...

CPU - Currently Unknown

I can't connect it to the net till I go to work next week..Actually I can't do anything till I take it into work next week, but my project is to put Windows 2000 onto it and hopefully upgrade the HDD.

1 - Short of puling the machine apart sooner than I have to, would anyone happen to know if I can throw in a 2.5" 40Gig HDD? (Does anyone know the physical size of the drive?)

2 - How can I find out the CPU speed? I usually use SIW but USB and internet are out of the question at the moment. In Control Panel > System it only shows IntelGenuine (r) processor.

3 - Any recommendations on how I can install 2000? The system is waaaay to old to support USB booting, the only relevant drive this machine has is an external floppy. I might be able to get my hands on a PCMCIA network card but somehow I doubt this machine supports network booting.

One open surgery on my new laptop reveals a 2.5" drive...This drive (working Windows98SE including drivers) will be stored elsewhere in case the win2000 idea goes horribly pear shaped

I'm going to grab my last spare 40Gig HDD, Format 10Gb for Coredrive and the remaining 30Gig Ill xfer the installation data for Windows2000 and any files I will need including drivers for my wireless card so I can hopefully use it on the net.

I'm still unsure of the CPU but apparently these machines are generally 300Mhz

Hi All,

I want to install XP Pro onto my laptop, I have all the drivers sorted out.

I loaded the cd int the external cd rom and started the install, I have done this as an upgrade and fresh install, but the cd rom is not recognised and I have to terminate it.

Is their any other way of doing this. Could I use a lan connection ??

I am baffled and as I have spent money on the XP Pro full version I would like to use it.

My husband brought home a Toshiba Portege M200/M205 from a foreclosure cleanout that he was doing that apparently crashed. Black screen that says "safe mode", "start normally", etc. I restarted it in Safe Mode. It starts to run a scan saying components regarding sysem 32 and then gets to a screen that says "PXE-E61 media test failure, check cable; PXE-MOF: Exiting intel boot agent. Insert system disk in drive...press any key" I don't have a system disk. Can I do anything with this tablet or should I just trash it?

This means that the the Boot File on the HDD is corrupted or the HDD has failed and the boot sequence has by passed the HDD and is going to the next device in the Boot Sequence which is a Network Boot which fails.
Boot off of the Windows Disc Or download the Recovery Console ISO. Burn it to CD with IMGBurn Boot off of the CD and get to the Recovery Console. Here type chkdsk /R and press enter. The Check Disk utility will try and fix any file errors.
You can also download the ISO image for Seatools or Drive Fitness in my signature and burn the image to a CD using IMGBurn also in my signature and boot off of the newly created CD and run the Quick and Advanced tests on the HDD to test the integrity of the drive.

We have a 7000CT with Windows 2000 on it and some how the display brightness got turned down by about 50% Does anyone know how to brighten up the display, There are not controls on the laptop to be found that will do this

Well I have a different model but on mine I can press FN and the UP arrow to increase the brightness. The picture on the UP arrow looks like a sun and an solid triangle pointing up - see if yours has something similiar.

Would this particular model accept a 128-MB expansion memory chip as substitute for the 64-MB it
came with originally?

Hello,
I bought a Toshiba Portege Z830 for my mom today, which I brang home and unboxed to test and install certain software on it.
I have a working hot-stop aswell as a cable connection, whom both function perfectly at this moment. Even tho I can connect with several devices on the wireless network (ipad, iphone, laptops, etc) I can't connect with the new Toshiba.
Since it's returning me an adapter error I suspect a malfunction in the devices drivers. The problem is, there are no drivers on toshiba's site for the wireless adapter.
Under the Network adapters tab in Device Mananger, I can find the Atheros AR9002WB-1NG Wireless Network Adapter and the Intel 82579V Gigabit Network Connection, who - according to Windows - are working properly.
What can I do so I can connect this darn thing by wireless? ._.

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

This should also work for windows 8
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box
(A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results into notepad and then automatically open the notepad and display on your screen.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results into a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will now be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy

Now go back to the forum - goto the reply and then right click in the reply box and paste the results.

i was given a toshiba portege 3500 recently. the catch is that there was no hd. so i bought a new one. to my surprise there is no floppy drive or a cd drive. is there any way that i can install windows on the hd? i have an external cd drive but it doesnt seem to be detected. any help would be much appreciated!

If it does go in the BIOS and check for an option for trying other boot devices

I have a Toshiba Portege M200 running XP that won&#8217;t boot. The Toshiba splash screen comes up then goes away, the HDD light turns on once and then shuts off and nothing happens. I tried hitting F12 to get into the bios but then the splash screen stays up and nothing else happens. I can get into the advanced startup menu by hitting F8. I tried booting to safe mode and last known good configuration but still nothing happened.

I also tried taking out the battery and booting it without the battery because I read that may work, but I had no luck with that either.

Does anyone know how I can troubleshoot this?

Try downloading Fedora Linux iso, and burn that image to a CD. Boot with it, and when it comes to its desktop, you will see all your hard drives. IF the CD won't boot, then its a machine problem. If the hd doesnt show up, then we know it is a hd problem. If the hd does show up, you can copy out all your data onto a usb memory stick.

I'm trying to reinstall XP for a friend of mine. His laptop is a Toshiba Portege Tablet and it has no CD drive. I have an external USB CD drive but this particular laptop has no USB boot option. Why it was built this way is beyond me. How can I reinstall windows? I've already tried taking the HD out, inserting it into an enclosure and plugging it into my business laptop, booting my laptop with the Windows XP CD, and installing XP to the enclosured HD that way, but with no luck. I recently purchased a used Toshiba Portege ct7000. I the college That I attend offers wireless internet and I am completely clueless as to what is neede to hook into this. what hardware is needed to utilize wireless internet? and do you need to subscribe to a wireless internet provider? I am pretty clueless and at home my family is still using dial-up.

You need a wireless adapter in your laptop. If you currently don't have one then you can buy it. Something that goes into the PCMCIA slot would be the simplest.

Usually you don't need any subscription to gain access to normal WiFi networks. At most you have to register your computer with the network owner.

Hi,
I have a Toshiba Portege S100 that im trying to do a clean install of xp on. The XP installation recognises the hard drive fine and completes the installation of XP, however when it reboots I get a 7B (Stop Code) blue screen error a couple of seconds after reaching the XP loading screen. I have tried with a slipstreamed XP disc with the Toshiba RAID drivers added and also using F6 during the install to add the RAID drivers manually. Same result. I have also tried performing the install with the RAID set to JBOD and to 1RAID-0, same result. I've tried different hard drives and i've also tried in another S100 (we have 4 here to get XP onto.)

I hoping to get some fresh thoughts on this as it feels like i've been staring at the same crossword clue for 4 days if you know what i mean.

Hello,Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong subforum.I have a Toshiba Portege that runs Vista. A few weeks ago, I installed new Synaptics touchpad drivers. Everything seemed normal, but when I restarted the computer as directed, it froze on the black screen that says "Toshiba - Leading Innovation." I had to shut it off by taking the battery out and unplugging it. I spent an hour or two restarting it over and over, only to have it freeze every time. Then, on one of my startup attempts, I got a different screen - something about my computer being unable to start up properly and repairing the problem. I followed the prompts and was able to get onto my Desktop. I figured the problem must be related to the new Synaptics touchpad driver, so I did a system restore to get rid of it. I thought the problem was solved.Last night I installed a webcam driver. A while later, I installed FinePix Viewer. FinePix Viewer installed successfully and prompted me to reboot, so I did. I ran into the same problem I described above - the screen kept freezing at startup. Things I tried:1) Waiting to see if the laptop was just taking longer than normal to start. Nope: definitely frozen.2) Unplugging the laptop, removing the batteries and then holding the power button down for several minutes. Didn't help.3) Tapping F2 as soon as the computer started. Hi,

I have the above PC which I want to re-image with the recovery discs but I am having a problem getting that far. I have a floppy bootdisk (which will also allow me to access the recovery discs from a usb cd:rom drive - I'm told). I don't get that far though - from the boot screen (start up and F12) if I select floppy drive to boot I just go to flashing cursor... and that's it. If I select internal harddrive I get a warning that a file is missing or corrupt:

System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys

Any help much appreciated.

Do you have an actual XP CD from Microsoft? I have NEVER had good experiences with recovery disks as they tend to not work half the time.

You may need to contact Toshiba for a new set of disks. If you had an XP CD we could maybe fix the underlying error.
