Portege 3410 - How to update BIOS and install XP?

Q: Portege 3410 - How to update BIOS and install XP?

Good day, I have two questions about Portege 3410.

The first one: I cannot update BIOS (there is 1.50 in use, I want to update to 1.60). The instruction does not work: I connect Teac USB-drive on USB-port, switch USB-FDD emulation to Enable, switch notebook On with F12 pressed, the message "Ready to update BIOS..." appears, I presed key, but nothing happend. What's wrong?

The second one: I cannot install Windows XP on to notebook (it does not boot neither FDD-USB, nor External DVD-USB).
How can I install Windows?

Thank you.
Mikhail

A: Portege 3410 - How to update BIOS and install XP?

Hi

Just one question: Why do you want to update the BIOS? Is it really necessary?
I ask this because this update is always a little bit risky and you could damage the ROM module.
Anyway, have you tried to load default settings in BIOS before you start the update and install XP?

You can install XP without CD. Therefore you must copy the i386 folder on the HDD from another computer and some booting files for HDD? I think you should search a little bit with Google to find workaround for this. You should find enough! ;)

Folks,

I have been wrestling with this device for a while now and I seem to be progressively making the situation worse.

My current issue is that I can no longer access the BIOS after changing a setting in the BIOS that related to USB emulation (or something like that). I was in the process of trying to make the device boot from a USB and pretty much twiddling with every setting to see what would work.

This one didn't. And now the device no longer responds to F2. It's like it is ignoring the keyboard. Doh!

Is there some way to roll back or re-flash the BIOS? Or another way to access it? I tried an external keyboard, to no avail.

How did I get here?

Well ... I was given this device to put back to factory condition and I could not find an obvious option that would do this, other than the Toshiba Maintenance Utility which looked hopeful. It offered to erase the partition (which at the time seemed fair enough) - BUT THAT"S all it did - so the machine just repeatedly boots, displays "Please insert system disk" and then reboots.

OK, I'm an idiot - but it does seem silly for Toshiba to offer an option that instantly bricks the machine?

Anyway, I've moved on from that problem to one that is significantly more dire. Not being able to access the BIOS means I don't have any options - unless one of you wonderful people can help me discover one.

Help

I have since discovered that the next setting I was going to adjust - the Secure Boot setting - may have solved... Read more

Hi,

I have only linux (antergos) on my Portage Z30-B-100, Does anybody know of any way to flash update bios?
Thanks

A:Portege Z30-B-100 update bios from linux

Hi

On the Toshiba EU driver page you can find only the win-based BIOS update version.
This means that BIOS can be updated from running system only and you need to run Windows OS in order to start the BIOS update procedure. Linux isn't supported in this case...

Here you can find the How to doc about the BIOS update

I tried to Update the BIOS at my M700-110 PPM70E-02302DEN from 1.60 up to 1.80 (P005Bv180.exe).

However it fails with the error " BIOS Update is not supported OS. Unsupported OS or service pack installed."

Within the "more information" I could read "OS independent".
Is the Windows 7 Home Premium with Service Pack 1 not supported?

What's the matter?
Which BIOS is the right one for my system?

Please help me!
THanks a lot.

A:BIOS Update not possible for Portege M700

Hi

It seems that Vista OS was preinstalled on this notebook.
This means that you have installed the Win 7 system at your own hand.

The point is that BIOS update requires some essential Toshiba tools.
For example the Value Added Package is important software and should be preinstalled on the notebook.

Is VAP installed?
If not install the VAP before trying to update the BIOS.

I've been looking on the Toshiba Site for BIOS updates for a Portege 3440CT, but can't find anything for the older models. Are they still available? Also the BIOS on the laptop at the moment is 1.50, acan anyone tell me what the most recent version is?

Thanks

All BIOS updates, drivers, tools and utilities for older notebook models you can find under ARCHIVE.
For your Portege there you can find BIOS version 1.60.

Thanks for help

A:Portege A600: cannot update to bios 3.0

Hi

The istall.exe should not crash and you should not update the BIOS in safe mode!
The Windows should be booted up and should run correctly!

Here is a Toshiba FAQ How to update BIOS:
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9502M10000R01.htm

Possibly the error code is related to corrupt windows OS or to missing some necessary Toshiba tools.
Using Win XP the Common Modules should be installed.
Using Vista or Win 7 the VAP (value added packed) should be installed.

Hi!

I have a Portege 3440CT with bios version 1.50.

This version does not support large HDD so I thought I'd update the BIOS. (don't know if version 1.60 does either, does anyone know?)

When I try to run the bios-update-program on win2000, it says "Initial error", anyone know what's causing this?

BIOS is downloaded from Toshibas website.

I have no floppy or CD-rom available.
Have tried the updater on win98, and also in DOS and it says "this utility not available on v86 mode!"

Is there any way to place the BIOS file on a small hard drive, and boot from that?

Ideas, anyone?

A:Bios update on Portege 3440CT.

Sorry CyB but I really do not understand you. If you check Toshiba support page you will find two BIOS updates. Both of them must be done using FDD. So now I am asking myself why you try to do it under running operating system. Sorry but it is really ridiculous.

Toshiba provide two different BIOS updates. One is TRAD (must be done with FDD) and WIN (can be done under running WXP or now Vista). For old notebook models there is no WIN version.

Is there any way to place the BIOS file on a small hard drive, and boot from that?

As far as I know something like this is not possible and you can check eBay and obtain FDD. You can get it for few bucks. It is really not expensive.

Hi there,

My Portege A600-13Y BIOS is version 1.50:

- should I upgrade to 2.00WIN?
- I found this source for the biso upgrade 2.0 but there is no indication that this file is authentic TOSHIBA bios.
No checksums, no ssl certificate, nothing. Is it possible to get it in a secured / authenticated way?

Thanx for answers,
Schneiderlein

A:Re: Portege A600-13Y: BIOS update 1.50 to 2.00-WIN - How risky it is?

Hi

First of all you should use and download the BIOS files only from Toshiba website.
The Portege A600-13Y PPA61E is a Toshiba European notebook model and all the drivers and BIOS can be found on the Toshiba driver page.

I don?t know why you ask for the checksums or ssl certificate? the Toshiba websites are safe?
but everyone who needs the drivers or BIOS can download it?

You should only ensure that you have chosen the right notebook model and that you have downloaded the right BIOS!

But why you want to update the BIOS?
If your notebook is running troublefree then a BIOS update is not important? I follow always this advice; never change a running system.

Had a go at installing this, and all is fine apart from installing the Value Added Package - the main thing I want to get working is the function keys for screen brightness and connecting a TV.

I understand that upgrading the BIOS can help getting the VAP installed ( I get the ID ERR NOTINSTALLTVALZ message), I know that Toshiba are not directly supporting the A100 for Vista but is there a BIOS I can install that will work? I'm thinking there might be a similar machine that works in Vista or maybe just an A100 BIOS that will suffice?

Many thanks!

A:Vista on Portege A100 - Can I update the BIOS?

Hi

May I ask where did you found the Vista Value Added Package for Portege A100?
I didn?t find this Value Added Package on the Toshiba Europe site.

There are only 3 files for Vista. One of the files is BIOS v1.60-WIN which seems to be OS-independent.

Regarding the BIOS;
You should know that the BIOS update is always risky.
If you will use wrong BIOS version or wrong BIOS update procedure you can damage the motherboard!!!
?and as you probably know the motherboard is one of the expensive notebook parts!!!
It?s not worth to trying something which can damage the notebook. You know?

Hi,

how can I update my BIOS when using Ubuntu Linux?

The reason why I'd like to update my BIOS is that on the one hand Ubuntu
writes an error message during boot-up and recommends to upgrade it and on
the other hand I'm afraid that there is maybe a temperature problem, at least the
notebook becomes slower after working for a while.

The notebook operating temperature usually is between 45-64 degrees.
The fan turns on at 62 degrees and turns off at 52 degrees.

Temperature seems to be pretty normal I would say but I think its not normal that the
notebook becomes slower when operating above 50 degrees.

I already opened it, it seems to be all right with the cooling unit, no dirt e.g...

Maybe I just persuade myself I and the performance is completely normal for a PIII with
866MHz??

Thank you

Dear Julio

I presume you know that Linux is not supported OS and designed BIOS update is created to be performed in running Windows OS. This nice Portege is known to me and I know very well that it is not the fastest notebook and it is designed for business purposes like working with Office, e-mail communication and every other everyday activity.

Because of that answer to your latest question can be: yes you persuade yourself.

Hi,

I recently picked up a Portege M200 and installed (via PXE - network install) Windows 7 on it. I would like to upgrade the BIOS as it's still at the original BIOS (1.1). I downloaded and extracted the pkg and tried to install via Windows but it says my OS isn't supported. I don't have an external CD drive or FDD - how can I update the BIOS? Anyone know where I can find a driver for it? I do see there are 2 devices not recognized - one "Base System Device" and one "Unknown Device"...

And I see it doesn't recognize the video card either - just uses Standard VGA Graphics Adapter which seems to work fine...

Hello Forum,

i have exactly the same problem as described here, 2 years ago:
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=65519

I need to update my BIOS, but i cant because the BIOS Updater tells me that Intel-TXT is enabled.
Unfortunatelly i cant disable it in my bios. Its just not selectable. The "cursor" just jumps over it.
I can only "Hide" it which doesnt help.
I have the same for the VT-d and VT-x setting in the BIOS. This is not selectable or changeable as well.

TPM isnt enabled though...
I installed the infineon suite and it tells me that i need to enable TPM in bios to use it. :-(

I have an very old Bios Version 3.1 and i read in the changelog that in V3.4 and 3.5 there were many TPM related changes....

Anyway....
Back then, a user named Paolo30 uploaded a file P007Dv360A_EC77V140.zip to 2shared.com which fixed this.
Unfortunatelly this file was deleted on 2shared.com

can someone please provide that file (or a later bios update) which fixes this?
Thanks in advance.

A:Need Portege R830 BIOS Update without Intel-TXT Check

Port?g? R830-10P belongs to the PT321 series so you need BIOS released for Port?g? R830 PT321

You can download such older BIOS versions from different Toshiba driver pages.
For example: http://www.toshiba-asia.com/sg/support/drivers

On this Toshiba Asia page I could find all BIOS for this Portege model.

Hi,

I have an Old Portege A100, Model: PPA10A-0002LP, but I can't seem to find that model on any Toshiba website, closest I've seen is the " PPA10A-0002L".

I'm wanting to see if there's a BIOS update that will allow me to Boot from a USB Device.

The issue I am having is that I need to reinstall Windows, but the CD ROm cant read discs.
It does Network Booting PXE, but i'm new to this sort of thing and have absolutly no idea what to do there.

Any help would be great,

A:Portege A100 PPA10A - Will BIOS update allow to boot from a USB device

Hi

Portege A100 seems to be developed only for Australian market.
As you said there is a Portege A100 PPA10A-0002L model number listed on the Toshiba Australian page but the Portege A100 PPA10A-0002LP belongs to the same series which is PPA10A.
So in my opinion the BIOS should work too.

Anyway, I doubt that the BIOS update will add any further booting options.

Usually the BIOS support the booting from CD/DVD drive, HDD, LAN and USB FDD.
It should be possible to boot from a bootable diskette using an USB FDD drive.
I doubt you would be able to boot from USB ODD since this Portege A100 supports an internal CD/DVD drive.

EC Version: Current Ver. 1.30 -> Updated Ver. 1.50
Bios and EC should be updated

During the BIOS update seems following message:

+An error occurred while preparing the update environment. You have not given permission to execute the update.+

My settings:
- BitLocker is switched off.
- No connection to a docking station
- Windows 7 is installed
- Boot mode is on? I guess it means:

If Win7 will install you can update BIOS then. If not, use Asus flash utility which is slighly riskier than updating via Windows.

Well in the old days we had the boot disk that we'd insert if we wanted to boot up to DOS. But I've gone stupid on how to do that in Windows 7.

I have a bios update that I want to install. Here are the instructions that I received but step 4 reads "Boot the system to DOS by using the bootable device." I'm not sure how to do that. It instructs you to put it on a USB key, but when I boot to the key I get the message "No operating system found." So there must be a step to make the device bootable?

Any insight? Here are the full instructions that I got when I downloaded the updated bios.

Thanks, Greg

Installation
NOTE: You must provide a DOS bootable media, such as a USB key. This executable file does not create the DOS system files.
1. Browse to the location where you downloaded the file.
2. Update the name of the file to DOS recognizable format (8.3). If you do not update the filename to 8.3 format, the filename will be truncated to 8.3 format.
3. Copy the file to the bootable device.
4. Boot the system to DOS by using the bootable device.
5. Run the executable under DOS. Follow the instructions provided by the flash utility.

Hi Everyone, Two things, first is I don't see any BIOS updates for the B350 in the drivers support page. Is that because there is no updates? Second, I need to make changes to our B350s and this requires a volume license for Windows 8.1 pro so I can upgrade to windows 10 in the next couple of days, but the B350s won't boot from the DVD. I should say I can get the computer to boot, but they fail to start Windows 8.1 install. I've tried remaking a DVD and booting over the network to no avail. I'm stumped,Rick

A:BIOS update B350 and OS Install

Just open the NVIDIA GeForce Experience application, AMD?s Catalyst Control Center (soon to be ?Radeon Software Crimson?), or Intel?s Graphics Control Panel ? whichever is on your computer. These often appear in your system tray, and you can usually find them with a quick Start menu search. You could also just go straight to the source here. Head to NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel?s website to download the latest graphics driver package for your hardware and install it.Even if you?re using Windows 10, you?ll probably want to do this ? at least, if you?re a gamer. Windows 10 won?t be automatically updating graphics drivers every time NVIDIA or AMD releases a new version. These updates are really only necessary for people playing PC games, after all.

Hi again,

I've solved it but thought I'd put the solution here in case anyone else had a similar problem. Basically I had to:

1 - Uninstall "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" using Device Manager
2 - In Device Manger, go to Action>Scan For Hardware Changes
3 - Close Lid & Remove Battery
4 - Reboot without battery
5 - Insert battery

That seemed to sort it out so it was probably a problem witth the ACPI-Compiant Control Method Battery Driver or something like that. I think I'd disabled it & re-enabled it a while back so something probably went awry then.

Cheers

Hi, I was doing a fresh install for a friend because her laptop would crash if the screen was closed and noticed she was running v1.0 bios on her Toshiba C50-b-14d laptop. I downloaded the newest version 5.1 from the official site and upgraded the bios. When I installed W10 it would install, and then freeze after the restart. I tried booting in safe but it said I couldn't because windows couldn't complete the install in safe mode. I tried to install again multiple times and the same problem every time.
I went into the bios and changed from CMS to UEFI and reinstalled. This time after the restart it got to the 'Getting Devices ready' screen and froze at 10%.
I have no idea what to try next. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello everyone,

I upgraded the BIOS on my Z30-B-119 laptop, and it is much worst than the original BIOS so I would like to downgrade it.
There was no way to save the original BIOS when updating and the previous BIOS is not available on the website.

Do anyone have the original BIOS and knows how to extract it?

Or maybe someone knows how to contact Toshiba technical team directly? (Seeing what they implemented in new BIOS, I have no hopes they read this forum or care about user opinions.)

If you wonder why I want to downgrade and what is wrong with it, see below for explanation.

I was convinced that the new BIOS would fix the problem with the fan, which switched on way too early, but it turned out they made it much worst! Now the fan switches on at 42?. Before it was 50?, which was already a stupid choice of Toshiba engineers, providing that the temperature rating of this CPU is 105? so they could keep the laptop quiet at least up to 60?, especially that many people complain about the fan in this model. Instead, Toshiba did the opposite and lowered the temperature even more.

Seeing how senseless choices their engineers make, I will never buy another Toshiba and will not recommend anyone buying their products. But since I already made the mistake an bought a Toshiba laptop, I hope I will be able to downgrade the BIOS or contact them to ask for an update.

Let me know if you know how to do it.

Hi,
has anyone tested the new bios (4.20-WIN(ECB1.40)) for the Toshiba Portege Z30-A or is there an official change log?
Did toshiba change the fan-behaviour? The fan is not loud/annoying, but it could kick in a little bit later.

Hello All,

Several days ago I installed several updates that were identified by the MSI Live update for my machine. One of these updates for the BIOS which I stupidly included (yes I understand now that was a dumb mistake).

After rebooting, I was presented to "please insert boot disk and press any key" so I figured some settings were set incorrectly in the BIOS. After playing around there for awhile and checking the boot order and SATA settings among other things, everything looked fine but I still could not boot to my SSD with Win7. The drive is listed in BIOS but I cannot boot to it. I also manually reset the BIOS configuration by jumping CMOS battery and that did not help either.

After giving up on the BIOS I put in a Ubuntu disk and ran Disk/Memory diagnostics both which returned no issues. At this point I began to suspect an issue with the MBR on the disk so I followed these directions on Tom's Hardware:

How to Fix Windows 7 When It Fails to Boot

Somehow between then and now I think I have managed to put myself in a worse state. The instructions work up to bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd. At this step I see that 1 Windows installation is detected on Drive D, however when prompted to add to the boot list, I enter Y and then get "the requested system device cannot be found". I deleted the bcd file but now I cant get Windows to generate a new one because of this issue.

Startup repair also fails, and the problem signature includes "StartupRepairOffline... Read more

A:Cant boot/install Win7 to SSD after BIOS update - Need Advice!

The update likely changed the BIOS setting for SATA controller. Preferred is AHCI but it might have been different before BIOS update reset to defaults.

Check also that the HD is set to boot first and that it is detected in BIOS setup and from your boot disk.

If these fail, browse into the HD with your Linux disk to copy out any data externally, then I could set to AHCI to Clean Install Windows 7 .

I have tried four times to install a BIOS update (Rom Family SSID 2AF7; Version 80.20Ap1) provided within the Support Assistant, on each occation the update fails to install. I get no error messages. The computer restarts, but the previous BIOS version (AMI 80.19 (2014-07-18)) remains installed. I have tried stopping my antivirus program, but this didn't help. I have noticed that the command screen hangs with a flashing cursor, but no instructions are visible and then my computer restarts. Is it possible that the update is corrupt? Any advice on how I should proceed would be welcome.

Hi,

This is my 1st BSOD after I did a Bios update on my laptop, followed by a fresh install of Windows 8 Pro. It occurred during my installation of drivers. The BSOD Error message was: Driver Power State Failure. The dump file is attached if anyone can help take a look at it, as its got me worried. The main reason I did a bios update was due to the multiple BSOD I had on my previous Bios.

I did try to open up the Dump file, but have no idea on how to read it. However it did mention the file name ntoskrnl.exe. From online searches, the file is related to my kernel? Does this means I installed the Bios wrongly?

If it matters, during Bios installation, I had to update the EC 1st followed by Bios update which had 2 executable files to run.

Note:
-Bios updated myself, obtained form laptop manufacturer

Edit: Uploaded Files as according to posting instructions. (Running the SF Debug Tool)

If it's I would like to learn how to read these files to solve problems myself if possible. I used WinDbg to open the dumb file, but got lost after that. Possibly tell my how you found the cause of the problem?

i do not have a floppy drive on my machine, only usb ports and a sd card slot. How can i upgrade the bios?

pete

A:Portege 4000 bios upgrade

The easiest way is to create a dos boot cd-rom. There are several descriptions on the web. Google for it.
Add the extracted Toshiba bios files biofc67t.com, ec29nobb.bin, chgbiosa.exe and chgfirma.exe to the CD-rom.

At first boot from the cd and run 'chgfirma ec29nobb.bin'.
Now the ECKBC-Firmware is written (don't power off during flash!!!)
Than boot again from cd and run 'chgbiosa biofc67t.com'.
This flashes the Bios.
Both flash are necessary!

Here is how to extract the Toshiba bios file.
At first you have to extract the R211VOL2.exe file. Easiest way to do so is to use 'universal extractor' -- google for it.
After this you will get the file R211VOL2.IMA. This is a floppy image file.
You can extract the single files in the archiv using winimage (trial version should work).

Good luck!

To be honest I don?t think you will be able to order this chip anywhere. Talk with service.

By the way: refurbished mainboard for Portege 2000/2010 with well working BIOS chip I found on eBay for 39 Euro so if you will not be able to do anything and repair BIOS buy new motherboard, exchange it and be happy.

I have a Portege 3010ct.
When i got it, it had Windows 98 installed on it but i wanted to put Linux on it so i could learn that.

So i tried getting into the Bios to make it boot from my CD but couldn't get into the Bios or really do anything. So in a final attempt i reformatted the hdd.

Now i can't get into anything.
Can anyone help?

I tried every button i thought might get me into the Bios and even tried hitting all of them, no one can seem to get me into it.

A:How to access the BIOS on Portege 3010ct

Hi

To access the BIOS you should use and press the ?ESC? button immediately after Portege was power up.

But as I understood you right, you want to boot from the internal CD/DVD drive.

Well, you could also try to press the ?C? button.
This would enable the booting from the ODD.

Furthermore pressing F12 button would allows you to enable the boot menu on the screen.
Then choose the CD/DVD drive to boot from CD .

Hi All,

I have a Toshiba Portege R830, running 32-bit Windows 7 (SP1) enterprise (for work).
I also boot into Linux Mint 14 64-bit, which I have installed on a portable USB HDD (outside work).

I recently bought a USB 3 HDD, but when I connect it to the USB 3 port on my R830, it only gives me USB 2 speeds (25 MB/s).

I checked with some diagnostic utilities (usbdeview, etc), which say that the drive is connected in USB 2.1 mode.

The drive reports itself as being USB 3, the cable is USB 3 (SuperSpeed), and the port I'm using on the R830 is 3.

I experience the same, whether I boot into windows or linux.

I updated all drivers on both OSs, to no avail.

next i tried to update the BIOS, but I keep getting the following error:
"An error occurred while preparing the update environment.
You have not given permission to execute the update."

For the record, this is the BIOS I'm going from, & to.
BIOS Version : Current Ver.2.80 --> Updated Ver.4.10
EC Version : Current Ver.1.10 --> Updated Ver.1.60

Does anyone know why I would not be getting USB 3 speeds (which, for my drive, are expected to be around 40 to 50 MB/s), or why all diagnostics are saying USB 2?

Does anyone know how to overcome the BIOS update issue?
(I've tried safe mode, disabling AV, disabling NX)

Cheers

Hello,
I have a Portege Z830 with BIOS version 1.60. It runs a single operating system, ubuntu, (without a windows OS it does not appear to be possible to upgrade the BIOS). I have a bootable USB (debian, created by copying an .iso image using dd) which works on other computers, but not on this one. With USB at the top of the boot priority, it is not recognized as a bootable device and the computer boots from the HDD. The boot is in legacy mode, not UEFI (there is no UEFI/legacy switch in the BIOS menu).

Any pointers how to enable a boot from a USB on this computer?

Thanks and kind regards,

James

A:1.60 BIOS does not recognise bootable USB in Portege Z830

As you probably know, Toshiba doesn't support Linux so you cannot upgrade BIOS under Linux OS.
It is also not offered to be installed from USB.

It works like application and must be executed under running Windows.

I am able to get into the BIOS, but it appears to be restricted.
It says there are three pages and to use the pgup and pgdn to change pages, this does not work.

I have tried it with a USB keyboard and removing the keyboard from the tablet, but this does not work either.
The laptop does not have SWSetup installed on it. I downloaded this from the website but say's that the BIOS is incorrect.

I then decided to flash the BIOS.
Downloaded windows BIOS flash and that say's that the BIOS is incorrect.

I would like to reinstall the OS but at the moment I am unable to to get it to boot from the CD as I can't change the boot sequence.

Can any one please help me.

First of all you can boot from the CD pressing F12 and then you could choose ODD as booting device.

Secondly it?s interesting to know if some passwords (user or supervisor password) have been set because such kind of password could restrict changing the BIOS options.

I am now at the end of my tether, I only wanted to install new WD HDD and do fresh install of XP Pro, is that too much to ask?

I have an existing Windows 10 Pro installation. My partitions are:
system reserved: 500 mb
C: boot, page file, primary partition
E: logical drive
F: logical drive
I would like to do a clean install with WIN 10 Anniversary Update (1607), and convert my disk from BIOS to UEFI.
What modifications would i need to do to GPTgen while upgrading and maintaining my programs and data?

Thanks

A:clean install with anniversary update & disk conversion BIOS to UEFI

Modifications....none.

Windows 10 already utilizes GPT partitioning....on a clean install. The only thing you would need to do is change your BIOS firmware from Legacy BIOS to UEFI BIOS. You will need to confirm that in your BIOS. Or to check with in windows.....in the search bar of cortana, type system information and when the window pops up, scroll down to BIOS mode......here's mine.

I have searched and been unable to find the information.

Specs are HP G60-445DX
3GB RAM
AMD Turion X2, 64 bit
Etc.

Upgrading from Vista Home Premium that was reset to factory specs in hopes of repairing "local only" issue on network.

Here's what is happening, booted from Windows 7 Ultimate burned ISO image on DVD RW, followed the instructions on this site for a clean install. Performed clean all on disk 0, set a partition and followed the install instructions. Expansion of Windows remained at 0% for 2 hours, I understood there were known issues however I have retried to do another clean install but am unable to boot from DVD although everything is set to do so including resetting CMOS battery.

It has come to my attention that I am required to update my BIOS from f3c to f54 to install W7, unfortunatly I have no idea how to do so now that I have no operating system on this HDD.

When trying to boot from DVD I am now getting the status of: 0xc00000e9.
Prior to this, the system would boot and freeze when loading files, now the system either promts with this message or will inform me bootmgr is missing or worse, shut down.

I'm doing this all from my phone and am at a loss as to what the proper step would be to get on the right track or if I am SOL.

A:Windows 7 install requires BIOS update, no operating system to boot

You should be able to find a DOS version of your BIOS and flash it from a bootable thumbdrive or disc.

Never mind. I thought I'd help you out by linking to the DOS flash utility but apparently there isn't one...

Hopefully someone will have a better solution.

Hi,

I had this computer since 2011. Recently, i got my new INTEL SSD harddrive. Did a clean windows 7 installation and ran all the windows updates and updated the drivers. I also updated the bios to the latest version 3602. Since then, windows has been giving me random freeze from time to time. It just happened again as I was typing this.

I thought maybe the latest bios might be the cause of the random freeze. So i downgraded the bios back to what i had been using for the past 3 years which was 1502. But the random freeze still occurs. There is no BSOD. Just hard freeze. Keyboard has got no lights. Caplocks and num locks doesn't response. My razer mouse blue led is still on though. Audio will go into indefinite loop.

Windows event viewer gave the Kernel-Power event ID 41. I don't think a dump file is created when it freeze. I tried leaving my computer on throughout the night without touching it and it froze and restarted twice last night. I can't find the root cause to the problem. No overclock. I had also tried cleaning the contact points for the ram and graphic card. Is it because the new SSD is not compatible with motherboard or is the PSU not sufficient to support 5 hdds in total or is there any other underlying reason which can be found in the attached files.

Please help. Thanks in advance

A:Win 10 on Portege R700 and R930 works but wher is the BIOS?

Well - I found the answer to the first question - how to enter Bios in W10 - in the energy options you have to disable quick start-up - then you can enter BIOS by just holding the F12 at powering up. Worked on my two Portege.

Can anyone help with this problem.

At our site we have approx 300 of these laptops and they are all bios protected.
Recently had a problem where when inputting the bios password and it says its incorrect even though its the standard password we use on all our laptops. The user also confirms they didn't set a password...

Is it possible for the bios to somehow have become currupted (the machine was experiencing blue screens before) or how can I factory reset the bios password.

Before anyone says yes we own the machince and can prove it!

A:Portege R700 protected by unknown BIOS password

Maybe it sounds stupid but I think you should clarify this with nearest Toshiba service provider.
I use Toshiba notebooks for years now and I know for sure that Toshiba doesn?t sell notebooks with any kind of password or such kind of protection.

If you have such amount of notebooks maybe there was some special dial about configuration or protection. Anyway, BIOS password removal cannot be theme on such public forum. BIOS password protection is very important security feature and if there is some problem it must be clarified with authorized Toshiba service provider.

BIOS password cannot be set or changed from alone and, as far as I know, there is no kind of factory reset. I just know that BIOS can be set to default settings. That?s all.
Contact nearest Toshiba service provider and clarify this issue.

Hi,

My Portege R700M stopped working after I spilled tea on it. Service center had rejected it quoting 'Motherboard, damaged', The laptop was setup for BIOS password protection for HDD.

Even though the hard drive is intact, I am not able to recover the data from due to BIOS password protection. will Toshiba able to help me unlock the password.

Regards

A:Defective Portege R700M - BIOS & HDD password reset

I presume mainboard is defective and will be replaced. I presume HDD is OK so I believe your original HDD will be used again. After mainboard replacement you don?t need BIOS password anymore. New mainboard will not be secured by BIOS password.

At least explain the situation and Toshiba technicians will explain to you how it works.

Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... All the LEDs turns on, but the sreen remain black and after few minutes, the netbook beep 3 times (1 long, 2 short).

How can I restore the BIOS to the previous version (or factory version) ?

Thanks.

A:Portege M800 doesn't startup anymore after updating BIOS

I think that error code means there is a Graphical/Video problem. The Mainboard or VGA Board may need replacing, or there may be a loose connection.

I would send the notebook to an ASP for repair.

Hello,

normally the USB boot option is available and you can select the supported modi in the bios settings.
In a company environment it is possible to disable USB as boot device with some special tools. In this Case yo ushould ask your administrator.
If you are a single private customer you should visit an ASP.

When i now turn on the notebook, i can see the Toshiba - Leading innovations screen and then it goes dark and won't boot any further.

The harddisk / fan / graphics card etc is working - but i don't see anything nor do i get some kind of prompt or shell or whatsoever.

I tried all those "Press, ESC, Press F2, Press F1, Press INS" stuff, nothing worked out.
I removed the battery for several mins while pressing the power button, nothing.

Maybe somebody has some kind of clue whats wrong with this maschine....

Did you use some high ASCII character like ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ? etc in your BIOS / Supervisor password?

In the past the usage of such characters prevented the notebook from booting up.
In such case you had to contact the service partner in order to solve this problem.

Right my BIOS was on 1.20 when I went to Toshiba website to get the drivers to install and found the BIOS update so I followed the instructions burn it to a floppy disk the last one I have and away I went but after the update I noticed that xp said it was running at 600 MHz not 1,2ghz.

So I used cpuid to see if it was xp but it shows the processor as running 598.6 MHz and can flux to 600.4 MHz max so I went into the BIOS tried CPU max disabled CPU sleep and rebooted so then I thought it was xp so I reinstalled but still the same I used Suse Linux still the same.

I?ve reflashed the BIOS with 1.50 through windows rebooted still the same. I am getting on where and this is getting silly I even went and found all BIOS versions from the Toshiba American site which goes back to version 1.10 to 1.50 so I tried all of them. Nothing!

I am really baffled at this can anybody sort this out it is really annoying and slow.
Thank you in advanced

A:Portege M100 - Processor Stuck on 600Mhz, have tryed every BIOS version

Hi

Just one question; was the motherboard replaced in the past?

As far as I know after the motherboard replacement the test & diagnostic should be performed in order to update the CPU microcode on the PCB.
If the microcode is not updated then your CPU would stuck at 600Mhz.

In order to update the microcode, the ASP must be contacted.

The other reason why the CPU runs only at 600Mhz is the low CPU processing setting in Toshiba power saver.
Check if the Toshiba power saver is installed on your notebook and set the options to a higher level.

Check it out?

My Samsung series 3 laptop has been sending out popup messages telling me I need a bios update, I go to the Samsung software update site and this bios update has been failing, I have made several calls and chats to techs at Samsung who tell me to do what I have already done, they tell to ask for tier 2 tech, who can go in my computer and fix it , When I finally got a tier 2 tech, they told me the same thing, I told him what I had been told about him and what he could do, He said, is it working , I said yes, but settings on computer change on their own, like wifi turns itself on and that concerns me. Anyway, He said that it didn't need a bios update, even the Samsung website said this computer needed a bios update. I posted this on hardware, firmware concerns, and they told me to post here, I was going to go to a site ,that had a download that checked drivers, I was told to stay away from this.

From the recovery disk reinstalled the OS but its the same.

Any help would be appreciated.

What RAID drivers did you use?

Normally you have to download the RAID driver on the Toshiba page and copy the extracted files on an external floppy. You can use a external FDD with USB port. You can load the drivers if you press F6 after you have booted from Microsoft XP disk.

By the way: Have you checked BIOS if HDD is recognized?

Hallo everybody!!

I have a problem.

I want to install XP on my "Portege 3110CT". The thing is that I have no floppy drive or cd drive. What I have is a USB-cable that I can connect directly to the hard-drive if I open the computer and take out the hard-drive, and then connect to another computer. When I start the computer it says???s: INSERT SYSTEM DISK IN DRIVE, Press any key when ready....

What shall I do??

I mean it must be a way to maybe put in the necessary file's in the hard-drive on another computer, or?
Help me please...

A:How to install WXP on Portege 3110CT?

Hi

The error message says that ?No system? was found on the HDD or elsewhere and the notebook cannot boot up.

You could try to remove the HDD from the Port?g? and could install it in another notebook. Then you could try to install the Win XP without any additional drivers.

After the XP installation you could switch the HDD back to the Port?g? and could try to start it.

Theoretically this could be possible.

Hi!

I've got a problem with our Portege P3500 (PP350E):
The Windows XP Tablet PC Edition on it is currently still running, but due to a lot of installed and improperly de-installed software, it's very slow, so I'd like to re-install the OS "from scratch".

I've still got the two original "rescue CDs" that came with the Tablet PC, but there's neither a CD-ROM nor a floppy disc drive in the laptop.
I've tried connecting an external DVD drive via USB, but the laptop wouldn't boot from that. (And I don't know if the recovery CDs are bootable at all.)

To make a long story short: How can (re-)install Windows XP TPE on our Portege?

Thanks in advance,

Sebastian

Hi

I can not install WXP. I have USB DVD-writer and also one Toshiba external writer over PCMCIA (Toshiba ipc 5025a) but he couldn?t find any external writer.

I pull out the HDD and format it extern in 2 parts.
I first install DOS and copy the WXP files on second part but I couldn?t also install it because of the conflict of FAT and NTFS. In BIOS I choose cardbus-16 bit. My CD writer is working (tested before).

Please help to install WXP on my laptop.

A:Portege 3490ct - I can not install XP using USB dvd writer

You can't install Windows XP directly because there is no driver for the external optical drive build in.

Principally you are on the right way.
Format the HDD, make two partitions both FAT32.
Copy the I386 directory from your XP installation CD to the second partition.
Start the installation calling winnt.exe.
Install XP to the frist partition.
After installation has finished you can use the XP command 'convert.exe' to change the FAT32 partitions to NTFS. Run 'convert.exe /?' in a DOS-Box to get the correct parameters.

Maybe you could borrow such drive from a friend?

Otherwise try to copy the content of the disk to a USB flash memory stick and then try to boot from the stick.
