Portege Z30T-A doesn't start

Q: Portege Z30T-A doesn't start

Hello, may be here somebody can help me.

After unknown causes, may be it was after hot swap RAM or another, suddenly my laptop Z30T-A doesn't start. How to say, after power press, there is 1 or 2 second fan sound and black screen and autoreboot. After reboot, i can see screen light with constant loud cooler sound and no action in future.

I try to start without battery, only with ac adapter - same situation... without ram or ssd - same situation.. i'l reconnect wifi adapter, keyboard, and all hardware components - same situation - no start.

After that, i'll give this laptop to my friend, who work in laptop service center.
After some tests he said, that may be problem with bios (bios can be suddenly deleted or another mistake, wich can provide no boot), or may by this problem with CPU.

I chose bios refresh, because it is cheapest option. My friend can unsolder bios chip and via special equipment upload a new one.

But we dont have bios for Z30T-A.
He said that all versions in support part on toshiba sites are unsuitable.

It's ok if u refresh, or upload this version via able to working laptop. I try to get bios via toshiba support e-mail, but they have only bin version and my friend claim that he need another one, not bin.... of course we can buy motherboard on ebay (in our country it is no toshiba laptop support) but this way is expensive.

Also, my friend said, that he can download via special equipment bios from another same laptop, but we dont have it.
May be somebodey here can help me.

I had something similar and thought the computer had been fried.

Try holding down the power button for a really long time. Like a minute or so.

The try to turn on the computer.

I recently bought a new PORTEGE Z30T-A PT24CE-01600EN5
upgraded to OS Version Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro 6.3.9600 with its CDs.

I noticed today my LTE/4G connection dropped several times and it was fixed when I restarted Windows but then the LTE adapter totally removes itself and connection drops
Each time the connection drops I check Device manager and there is no LTE device anymore so I have to restart again. And when it finds it finds the "Generic mobile broadband adapter"not Sierrea's.

I go to Device Manager under Network Adapters---> EM7305 Here for this device which is the LTE the driver provider is shown as Microsoft with the version 6.3.9600 16453 from the year 31-Oct-13.

Then I downloaded the Sirerra LTE driver from TOSHIBA website, Here what they recommend: [LTE driver| =2&selFamily=4&selSeries=362&selProduct=17899&selS hortMod=4655&language=13&selOS=46&selType=438&year upload=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode= allMachines&search=&action=search&macId=&country=a ll&selectedLanguage=13&type=438&page=1&ID=90092&OS ID=46&driverLanguage=42] .

I installed several times but nothing changes, still Microsoft's driver there.
Sierra only shows up as "Siearra Wireless Location Sensor" but not under Network adapters.

Somewhat this driver removed ... Read more

A:Portege Z30T-A cannot install LTE drivers

It seems that until now in this forum nobody reported a similar LTE driver issues.
The question is: did the same issue appear in factory preinstalled system?

I guess you cannot provide answer to this question and therefore we cannot say for sure that this isn?t hardware related issue.

Anyway, on the Toshiba EU driver page you can find lot of Toshiba tools and drivers for this unit. All tools and software as well as BIOS should be update to the latest state. Check if you are using latest BIOS.
Then I would recommend you to install the driver manually via device manager.

The driver package which you downloaded from Toshiba driver page is zipped. You have to unzip this package. Inside of this package you would find also and exe file. This is also an zipped package. Click right on this package and unzip this exe file.

Now you should see all the driver files and should be able to install the driver via device manager using the ?Advanced? installation procedure.

All, I've got a Z30T-A in a Port Replicator III, connected to a Samsung external display via Displayport. I noticed there's an unused DVI port on the back of the port replicator. Does anybody know if it'll work to connect another Samsung to the DVI port, to operate two external displays simultanously?

When searching I find no Windows 10 touchpad driver for the Z30T-A laptop. Though, there is a Toshiba signed driver delivered through Windows Update.

Is the Windows Update driver the one that is supported by Toshiba for Windows 10?

I just try to find out how to turn off the displays backlight on my new Z30t.
While processes still are running, just to save power.

Here I have FN keys for putting light up or down, but they do not go down to zero, and there is no key to stop.
I had 6 laptops so far, and all had a FN key to switch off the display for power saving.
So I am somehow scratching my head, how to do here.

Also, I'd like to reprogram some FN keys as I do not need FN sleep and hibernate.
Couldn't find info on that, too.

Some idea? Please help!

thanks, Tommy

A:Portege Z30t - how to turn off displays backlight?

You can use the FN keys in order increase and decrease the display backlight but you cannot shut off the display completely using these function keys.

If you want to disable the display after certain time, I would recommend you to change the settings in the Windows power options.

Go to Control Panel ->Power Options
Here select a power plan page, on the left, click Choose when to turn off the display.
On the Change settings for the plan page, choose the display settings that you want to use for this power plan when your laptop is running on battery and when it's plugged in.

I recently bought a new PORTEGE Z30T-A PT24CE-01600EN5
OS Version Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro 6.3.9600

In touch-pad settings I cannot find reverse scroll option.
I had TOSHIBA Z930 before and I'm used to scrolling down and page down.

Anyway to change scrolling direction for touch pad?

A:Touchpad reverse scrolling not available on Portege Z30T-A

I don't have this notebook model but on mine machine with Win8.1 in touchpad properties there is scrolling option under ?Multi-Finger?. Scrolling options can be changed. Under several options there is also option ?Reverse? that can be enabled or disabled.

Please open touchpad properties and check all options there.

I recently bought a new PORTEGE Z30T-A PT24CE-01600EN5

It was Win7 pre installed and I upgraded to:
OS Version Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro 6.3.9600 with their CDs.

The problem is the FN keys do not display on screen.
When I first got my laptop under Win7 I would press the FN key and options would display on my screen, that was great. But after a day it doesnt display anything on the screen.

How can I fix this problem?

Message was edited by: djemo

A:FN keys do not display on screen Portege Z30T-A

At first I must say that described issue is not a problem.
Under Win8.1 Toshiba has offered FN keys usage in two modes:
-Special function mode
-Standard F1-F12 mode.

If you use Win8.1 open please Desktop Assist > Tools & Utilities > System Settings > Keyboard.

There you can change function keys mode.

Please test it how it works.

I recently bought a new PORTEGE Z30T-A PT24CE-01600EN5
upgreaded to OS Version Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro 6.3.9600 with its CDs.

I cannot wake up the computer from sleep by any key but the power button.

TOSHIBA utility has opton for that which suposed to set it so.
I try the follwing:

Desktop assist---> System settings---> Keyboard

Here I enable the only option which claims it will power on the machine from sleep
by pressing any key.

But the machine never responds to any key but the power button.

Do any of you guys have the same problem? Any workaround?

A:Portege Z30T-A unable to wake up from sleep by any key

Are you sure you set the notebook to SLEEP mode and not HIBERNATION mode?
In my case the option works properly if the unit is set to SLEEP mode.
In case of Hibernation mode, I have to press power button to wake up the unit

I have problem with figerprint reader on portege Z30t-A-11U - in Windows 8.1 PRO
Problem is from the beginning - (factory preinstalled system)

Several times a week does not respond fingerprint reader on waking or after waking the laptop. (icon for logon is not at that moment to see - the reader will not operate even after manual login)

Thanks in advance.

A:Portege Z30t-A-11U fingerprint reader problem in Windows 8.1

If this fingerprint issue does not occur always but only from time to time, then the troubleshooting will be very difficult?
Such ?occasional? issues are always tricky?
Anyway, if you did not try to update the fingerprint software in the past, I would recommend you to do that?

Furthermore please check if the fingerprint sensor has been enabled in the BIOS.

If not, enable the fingerprint and save the BIOS changes.

A:Portege Z30T-A-10X Broken glass on the screen, LCD monitor works

I can understand your wish to fix this alone but problem is that you cannot obtain such parts as easily as you think. All we can say here is: use Google and god luck.

By the way: without maintenance manuals and exact step-by-step instructions it could be pretty risky ?operation?.

I don't know where do you live and where you are at the moment but repair in any European country should not be problematic for you.

I have an orange flash error code on my power light (1 long flash 3 short 1 long 2 short 1 long 1 short).....

I have to take the power connector out battery out and start by battery to get it to work......

I'm using Toshiba's windows 7 image with all updates from Microsoft (now I NEEDED a lot of the for verying reasons so don't grill me yet... eg DON"T LOAD MICROSOFT UPDATES blah blah blah)

What does this code mean and is there a Beta Bios above version 3 for these things......

Any helpful comments would be greatly appriciated......

A:Portege M750 doesn't start - power LED flashes

Short means 0, long means 1.
In your case the binary code is 1000 1001
Now you have to reverse the binary code due to most significant bit.
This means the code is; 1001 0001
The HEX code means; 91h

So error code is 91h but I don?t know what 91h means and what part could be affected exactly!

Possibly it?s something wrong with power supply electronic on the motherboard? but only the ASP technician could provide more details?
However, in most cases the motherboard is affected and should be replaced.

Hi, gotta problem, I'm trying to install Windows 7 on my M400, but it don't see hard drive.
The hard drive is surly ok, 'couse I've tested it in the other netbook, I can see it in BIOS, but any installing program cannot.

(I've tried XP Tablet ed., and Ubuntu as well)

A:Portege M400 - Windows 7 doesn't see the HDD

Hi Radzik,

I think Windows doesn?t see the HDD due missing RAID drivers? Windows needs such RAID drivers before you can install it because it doesn?t contain such drivers so the HDD is not recognized. You can download the RAID driver on Toshiba website.

Then you can create a new installation disk using nLite with the drivers or you copy the drivers on an external floppy drive. After booting from Windows XP you have to press F6 key to load the drivers from FDD.

Check this!!!

I experienced a usual crash of the Windows Vista on my Toshiba and had to shut down the computer through the power button on my keyboard since the Alt+Ctrl+Del function was not responding.
In the very first time I attempted to switch it back on, I got the usual message, warning me that the computer was not shut down properly. I chose to operate Windows in safe mode and shut it down properly.

However when I switched my laptop back on it does not respond to any commands at all. I can move my mouse on the screen but cannot do anything while on the windows environment..any ideas?

A:Re: Portege M800-107 doesn't responding

Does the notebook support the fingerprint? I think it supports this.
I?m not quite sure if this could be a reason for the freezing but I read that fingerprint software update might help.
Furthermore you should check

Hi everyone,

my almost new Portege Z30 doesn't start anymore. There is only one white light flashing - the one for DC/battery - but other than that: nothing happens :(

What can I do?
Thanks for your help and support.

A:Portege Z30- A-1FL doesn't power up anymore

Sorry to hear that?

Portege Z30 is very nice, good looking Ultrabook and as far as I know the notebook?s battery isn?t removable. Therefore the common workaround like removing the battery and pressing/holding the power button 30 sec long isn?t possible.

Anyway, I guess that notebook?s hardware started to malfunction and the fault localization will not be very easy. Usually the notebook engineer would use a special test and diagnostic software in order to find out what could be exactly wrong.

From my point the issue could be related to memory problem or motherboard malfunction and I guess both parts should be checked for possible issues.

Since I remmember I use my laptop with enable sleep and hibernate features.
A couple of days ago it started not to restart after sleep or hibernate.

You have to take ou the battery and AC power and then it starts but without assuming the sleep/hibernate.

Another thing is that when you press the switch on button the AC power led, which is green normally, it starts blinking yellow with some sort of a code long and short flashes.

This happens with different operating systems cause I tried to reinstall and the problem persists.

A:Portege M750 doesn't restart after sleep or hibernate

> Another thing is that when you press the switch on button the AC power led, which is green normally, it starts blinking yellow with some sort of a code long and short flash

I know that if there is a memory malfunction the *Power indicator* will repeatedly flash on and off (0.5sec) If there is an error in slot A the indicator would flash orange twice then green.
If there is an error in slot B, the LED will flash orange once and green twice.
If error is in both slots, the LED flashes orange and green twice.

By the way: is your BIOS up to date?

Good afternoon,

When I press the FN key does not appear functional menu at the top of the screen. I installed Toshiba Value Added Package and Function Key but still missing.

Like this:

What driver I need?

The operating system is Windows 8.1 Pro and laptop Toshiba Portege Z930-108

A:Re: Portege Z930-108 - FN key doesnt show flash cards

If you use Win8.1 you can use Functional kez on two ways and change two modes:
-special function mode
-standard F1-F12 mode

There is one difference. When you use special function mode you can use F keys only. With standard mode you must use FN+Fx key combination.

Flash cards that you can see at the top of the screen works with Vista or Win7 only. As far as I know since Win8 flash cards are not shown on the top of the screen anymore.

The BIOS updating program seems to failed. Then my Netbook automatically restarted and now I can't start my PC anymore.

How can I restore the BIOS to the previous version (or factory version) ?

A:Portege M800 doesn't startup anymore after updating BIOS

I think that error code means there is a Graphical/Video problem. The Mainboard or VGA Board may need replacing, or there may be a loose connection.

Nice job that you have tested other RAM modules in your Portege notebook because this would my first suggestion testing other RAM modules? :)

In my opinion it?s a serious hardware malfunction like mainboard or CPU but without special diagnostic tools it?s not possible to say more about this especially on this virtual way. So you must get in contact with an authorized service provider and ask for help. The guys have good diagnostic tools and can help you to get rid of this.

I am using a Portege M800-116 running XP-SP3.

Problem 1:
Connecting Line-Out to a stereo and playing music w/ Winamp or WinMediaPlayer works fine on batteries.
As soon as I connect the power adapter, loud high frequency hiss and hum static disturbs the experience.

Problem 2:
Recording WAV or MP3 files with internal or external mic only produce mediocre results.
The resulting files include a high level of high frequency hiss and hum static.
Connecting power increases the problem.

Comparing playback and recording sound quality with my old trusted Portege M100:
My M800 is a not only low quality - it's plain unusable.

Problem 3:
Toshiba HWSetup does not start from Controlpanel.
Have tried un- and re-installing to no avail.

Thanks for guiding me towards a solution.

For the last month or so, every time I log off my account, the keyboard does not register at the Windows Log In screen. This makes it so I have to restart the computer and then it works fine.
There are three accounts on the computer, the casing has been half removed for the last 3 months, a DVD burner and driver recently installed 3 months ago and I am using a wireless off brand USB keyboard and mouse.
OS: Windows Xp Home Edition 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3
As for the second part, the computer requires several restarts to boot up, sometimes up to twenty minutes of turning on and off to boot up. Only started doing this a week ago.

A:My Keyboard doesn't work, and the computer turns on but doesn't start.

It sounds like something is wrong with your Windows XP drivers. Something like that happened to me while building my computer, and when I boot up the keyboard did not work because my copy of windows XP was bad. You could try reinstalling windows XP, and It might work better, but I dont have a definite answer to your problem.

Hi there,

I have a toshiba 3440CT, i dont know what is wrong with it at all and im completly confused! When i switch it on it comes up with the toshiba display and then goes to a black screen and says "Insert system disk in drive. press any key when ready....." does anybody know what i can do to make it run on windows 98 again or Xp hopefully? Could you give me a step by step guide in how to fix my laptop please.
Thanks much appreciated

Jat Gill

A:Portege 3440CT - 'Insert system disk ...' message occurs at the start-up

this message occurs when your HD is not recognised. Does the problem suddenly come up ??

there are several possiblities :
a: the bootsector of your HD is corrupted, than it can be solved by re-partitioning (FDISK) and re-formatting the HD
b: your HD is defective
c: your IDE-controller is defective

if possible you could take out the HD and try to read it in a USB-2,5" hd-case

Quick question - will a keyboard for a Portege S100 work in a Portege M100?

Layout looks similar; albeit a different colour.

A:Will a keyboard for a Portege S100 work in a Portege M100?

I think you cannot use the same keyboard because the Portege S100 supports the an-easy-to-use 84-key (US) or 85-key (UK) keyboard and the Portege M100 supports the an-easy-to-use 85/86-key keyboard.
Furthermore the connector of the S100 supports the CN3230 keyboard interface 34 pin connector and the M100 supports the PJ3230 keyboard 34pin connector.

So possibly this could be a problem.
I recommend using the original keyboards released for the each notebook model.

When i got home today didn't my computer work, my girlfriend has been the last one using it. So don't know how things were just before the shutdown or anything.

when i turn on the computer i get to the screen where "touch bios" is and where i can see the options like Bios settings, boot menu, xpress recovery.
but i cant press anything, and after about two seconds on that screen the PC shuts down again.

The keyword lights up so there is a responds on it, but just doesn't work to press anything before it shuts down.

I've got BSOD upto several times a day for a few months time.
believe that my computer is affected by some virus or something is delaying my computer. might be an combination of several things.

I got no external things hugged up to the stationeer computer right now.

it is a windows 7 x64 machine.

usually when i get issues i can access advanced boot up or bios, but can neither in this case..
I wonder if it might be a hardware issue.
If so what do you think it might be?
and how can i diagnose the problem when i can't do anything with the machine?

Just purchased a laptop for the wife with windows 8.1 & trying to understand it

I set up live mail 2012 as her email service & pinned it to the taskbar. But when she clicks the mail tile from the start screen it ask for an account & does not start the correct program. The same is true of IE tile from the start does not start up the correct home page as the the one pinned to the task bar.............what gives?

A:mail app from start screen doesn't start default program

I'm not sure if I understood your question correctly: the Mail tile is it's own app, not a short cut, and needs to be set-up. You do not need to install Windows Live Mail any more. I've been using the Mail app a couple of months now, after using WLM on Windows 7 for years, and find it way better. All your Email accounts get their own screen so there is less confusion when your reading/writing mails with different accounts.

This is my first post on this forum. I've been searching for a solution for my problem for a couple of days and found nothing, so I hope I can find some answers here.

I'm trying to make a certain program (a game, actually) to run as soon as I boot the computer. So, I don't want to click on anything to make it run, just press the power button on the pc, boot and the program should then automatically start.
I thought this was easily done by placing the shortcut in the startup folder, yet it doesn't appear to do anything. When I go to task manager and check the startup programs the program I added is there, yet it doesn't start.
There's nothing wrong with the program itself cause it works just fine when I click the shortcut... But I still have to click it.

This is very frustrating as every source I've checked tells me it should do as I intended.
Any help here would be very much appreciated.

Updated to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 two weeks ago.
Had problems with Firefox.  Tried to download to replace existing Firefox.  CNET site appeared to be correct but something seemed wrong so I killed the download. But.
- The windows start menu doesn't come up when I click on the icon, but if I right-click, a text menu does appear and lets me, for example, shut down.
.- If I click on the Windows End icon in the task bar, the screen flashes but End does not come up.  Ditto for the Windows Store icon.
-  Somewhere SpyBot S&D was erased, but I was able to download it.
- If I double-click on a photo in Windows Explorer, I get a popup that lists the name of the jpeg and says Invalid Entry to Registry.  If I right click on the photo and go to any of the options the photo is opened except if I choose Photo.
- Firefox cannot properly display the Yahoo mail page, though Pale Moon and Opera can.
- I have Avast Anti-Virus and MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and when I run their scans, they find no issues.
SO there are a few issues that I need help with.

A:windows 10 problems - start menu doesn't appear, windows key doesn't work, etc

Well the first thing you should try is to Run System Restore to before all of these problems started or to when you first installed Windows 10.
Then try to download Firefox from there website
Third thing is I would recommend to get rid of Avast it is low end and could be allowing virus I recommend ether McAfee or Norton Security.

Those are some things to think about
but it is all up to you when making your final decision

From last 1 month or so I am facing a strange problem in my PC. When I turn it on, it does not start. Green light(power) turns on, processor fan turns on MB light also turns on but nothing else I mean no HDD light, monitor doesnt gets on, not even CD-ROM light blinks. It seems that these things are not getting the power. But such problem happens occasionally only. When I encounter this problem I open the system re-plug power supply cables of HDD and main power going to MB and generally it gets solved. Nowadays I have a lot of work on my PC and I have to meet some strict deadlines. So I want to completely eliminate this problem. What can be wrong power supply, MB or what please advice. Thanks

Well based on your description and your previous solution I think I would be trying a another power supply as the first step.

hello! it's my first time posting a thread, i don't know how this things work, so i'll head straight to the problem: i was playing crysis, then i paused and went away for about 15 minutes. when i got back, my pc was dead, i couldn't start it anymore, on occasional tries i witnessed some kind of sparks, but it looked like the pc started for half a second, not an usual spark though... i think it's overheated, but i seriously doubt in this, i have intel q8300, nvidia gt9800, 4gb ram, gigabyte ep43-s3l motherboard, it's a stock computer, as far i can remember it's normal temperatures were around 40C, i the time i was running crysis, xfire, torrent, and i think messenger, but until that point, the pc handled it with no problem...sorry for bad english and probably some stupid information, i'm a noob at this things, and i hope someone will be able to help me

A:PC doesn't start

What do you mean by "stock" computer, is it a brand name? Have you added any components since you bought it? What is the make and model of the Power Supply?

Since it is Summer time and a HOT one at that, depending on where you live, how is the computer plugged in to the wall outlet? Are there many devices on the same circuit, any Window Air Conditioning?

Is the I/O shield still there at the Rear Panel (the silver metal plate covering the rear panel connectors)?

I suggest not attempting to turn the system ON again till we take a look inside your system first.

Hello guys,

There is no option of boot and I really don't know what to do about it. Help me please and sorry for my bad english...

A:My xp doesn't start

Most likely your installation of XP is corrupted. If you have a reinstall disk for XP, use it to reinstall windows XP. Put the disk in your cd drive and follow the instructions in your bios (the loading screen before windows xp) to boot from the cd. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT PRODUCT KEY FOR YOUR CD BEFORE REINSTALLING (I've made that mistake twice.) When it asks where to install the OS, delete the old hard drive partition where XP was installed before installing XP.

I'm not one of the officials on this site so wait for someone else to give you some alternate solutions before you try to reinstall.

Hello all, thanks for the help thus far with regards to my hard drives not being detected... the problem isn't yet sorted however as after prolonged use for a number of hours or over night the problem seems to reoccur, but I just end up lettin it cool off before turnin it back on later in the day...

However, my drama doth continue, lol...

After comin to boot up this mornin I got hit with a blue screen before the XP Log In screen which informed me...

"STOP: c0000218 (Registry File Failure)
The registry cannot load the hive (file)
or it's log or alternate
It is corrupt, absent or not writeable"
Now on the scandisk a small number of files in a TEMP folder came up as not valid and were thus truncated, a couple in my RealPlayer too, and Bulletproof FTP software... sounds like a virus doesn't it?

Anyway, I've gone back to my old faithful friend of the past week or so, the recovery console... basically I can't get onto windows, so what is my next step, I'm guessin it's gonna be a feature of the console?

Also if anyone could tell me what has happened then it would be much appreciated...

Not sure if this is the right place to put this, this is my first post. Basically I tried turning on my computer this afternoon and nothing happened. No output on the screen, no noise, no lights on the exterior of the case. I had switched the power off at the socket at usual the previous night, and had switched it on a few minutes before pushing the power button. I then opened the side of the case and saw that there was an LED lighted on the motherboard, so obviously the power is making it to the motherboard. However I also saw that 2 other LEDs that should be lit weren't. So at this point i'm fairly sure it's the motherboard. Just in case i disconnected it for 10 minutes then plugged it in and tried again, still nothing. Oh, and I used this computer with no trouble for several hours the night before with no problems. Also I have made no modifications to this system for at least a few months.

Anyone have any ideas for things I can try before I go buy a new motherboard?

A:Computer doesn't start up

You should try another power supply before suspecting the motherboard. What are your complete computer specs? Just because you see some lights, it doesn't mean that the power supply is good. Is this computer an eMachines?

Ok so my windows xp sp 2 doesn't start. When i start my computer i have to choose between normal and safe mode ; if i enter normal mode windows starts to load , then i get this windows blue screen wich sais:

"Checking files system on D:
The type of the file system is NTFS.

One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. You may cancel the disk check , but it is strongly recommended that you continue.
Disk checking has been cancelled.

After this i get a short blue screen , you know that anoying one , that you usually get when your computer crashes , and my computer starts this crap over again. If i pick safe mode it doesn't start either.

The thing is that i punched my computer really hard ( yeah , i know i'm an idiot but this is not my main concern right now) and something may be damaged. I don't know , my hard disk maybe?
Anyways i'm going to go home now and try some things to see if they work . If you guys can help me with this one , i would really apreciate it.

A:Windows doesn't start

This could be a HD problem, let the disk check continue and see what happens.

Also, try and note down the error off the blue screen. If it restarts too fast, press F8 before the windows loading screen and select disable automatic restart on system failure.

A:windows Doesn't start !!!

Welcome to TSF....

One of the reasons that the monitor is getting a no video input is that there is no signal to turn-on the display on th emonitor, actually from the monitors point it is the only reason.

I would suspect one of several things:

1 - Loose video connector either on the monitor or on the video card

2 - Possible bad video card or intermittent component on the video card.

Replacing the video card would be a good test to see if this fixes the problem, I would try borrowing a card from a friend that has an extra card or one out of an un-used computer first and try.

Since you have re-installed windows the video card driver would have already been replaced so windows should not be the problem.

Hello guys!

1st: excuse my bad english.

My situation:

First I splitted my 320GB HDD into 3 partitions. One 4 data, one 4 Win7 and one 4 XP. So I started with installing XP on the bigger Partition and then Win 7 on the smaller one. Today I really love Win 7 and wanted do delete XP and his partition to add the space to the Win 7 partition.
But I forgot, that the boot files were on the XP-Partition. I couldnt format it in Win7 because it was a system partition so i deleted the files in the explorer & now I can't boot my OS. When my desktop-pc boots a message becomes reality: NTLDR is missing.

With the Win 7 DVD I deleted XP-Partition (in the INSTALL-Menu) & tried to repair the system with the startup-repair tool (there's a thread in this forum, i know). Although it displayed success, win 7 still doesnt boot and NTLDR is still missing.
Don't want to reinstall my Windows.

Can someone help me?

A:Win 7 doesn't start after deleting XP

Hi Foley92, welcome to the forums.

If a 'Startup Repair' completes with no issues then you may want to try

Repair Install

This should also restore your Boot Manager, allowing you to boot.

This method is safe and does not delete your user files

Hope this helps

There are multiple problems on my computer right now, but I'll start with the first one. When I start my computer it gives me the first "Windows XP" screen. Then the blue screen is SUPPOSED to come on where I can log in with my password. Most of the time the screen goes black and the only thing there is my arrow cursor. I have to hold the on button in until the computer shuts down and start over. After multiple tries, I can get to the blue screen and log on. After I'm on, I have other problems, but let's see if I can get an answer for this one first!!!! Oh! I can get on okay in Safe Mode. this is getting frustrating!

when I attemted to install the; I received an error message stating the software does not support this system. I call HP and they claim it's a virus or a computer issue.

How do I process to get my system working again? or did HP send the wrong disk?

My mom's laptop is not starting up. Something happened to it and I don't know what.

So it starts up on the black screen where you have the options to start in "safe mode, networking, start windows normally etc." Whichever one of those I choose, windows starts up, the blue screen flashes and it goes back to that main black screen. I choose all the start up options available and it just does the same thing over and over.

When I hit F11 during startup, for the reformatting, I couldn't do anything with that because it asked to put the disk in and our cd driver broke off so I can't put any disks in. I have no idea what to do with F10 and the bios menu. So I'm basically out of options. i don't know how to get it to start up. I hope the computer isn't fried

You need to see the entire extended version of that Safe Mode menu so tap Function 8 while you switch the computer on and then highlight "Disable automatic restart on system failure". That will make that blue screen stand still long enough to be read and please then post as much detail back here for someone to advise you.

Hey guys! I'm having a problem with windows 8 professional setup:

So I have win8 consumer preview installed on my laptop. A couple days ago its licence expired, so I got win8 professional to upgrade.

I made an install USB with the win7 USB utility and proceeded to boot from the stick. The setup then told me I should restart my pc and restart the installation from windows.

I did that, but win8 setup won't start. It just starts reading from the usb for a second, then stops. The setup from the .iso I downloaded does the same thing.

To make things more interesting, the first time I restarted my PC after trying to upgrade windows from USB at start-up, I ran win8 setup and it did start and started doing some things, on that small blue screen that pops up. I didn't pay attention to it until the blue setup screen disappeared and nothing else happened...

One more thing, I tried to install Microsoft windows server 2012 on my laptop a month ago and the same thing happened with the setup.

Did a few hours of research on the internet, tried to run it in compatibility mode.. hope somebody can help me upgrade it. Can't really afford to do a "clean" install now, and on top of that, my PC reboots every 2 hours because my licence is expired...

I got a new computer and it came with one big 500 gig hard drive with one partition. I don't like having just one partition so I used Gparted to resize the windows partition and make another one for data. When I restarted, Vista would not load and just hung at the loading screen with the moving bar. So I put in the Vista DVD and restarted to try to the fix windows from the DVD. I pressed enter to boot from the DVD and it went through one loading screen with a white bar moving across the screen, then it went to a loading screen that looked the exact same as the one where it hangs when starting normally. Once that disappears it just goes to a blank screen. The whole screen is black and nothing happens. I left it like that over night to see if anything would load, but nothing did. So now I can't get into windows either way and I don't know what to do. Any help would be much appreciated.

Edit: I have managed to fix the problem. I turned off all but one cpu core in the bios and fixed the dvd loading problem.

I had the FBI Virus on my laptop and have just downloaded software to remove it fully. which I think it's done becasue my laptop boots up without the Virus screen being present as it was prior to removal, However, now everytime I boot up my laptop, and select my main account (which is the one that was affected) all I get is a black screen with the Command Prompt (cmd.exe). My explorer.exe process doesn't launch automatically as it should and I need to manually start it by opening up task manager > run a new task. I'm able to run all programs once I manually start windows explorer.

I've run malware scans using multiple programs like Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Advanced SystemCare 6, WiseFixer and SpyHunter4 and have deleted anything that was indicated as a threat.

I've already checked the registry setting in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon and verified in Shell that it's explorer.exe I attempted to run sfc /scannow from my account that's having issues, but I got a message that it had to be run with administrative rights. I logged into the "Adminstrator" account and ran it from there, but nothing changed. I read somewhere to make sure that Windows Management Instrumentation was unchecked in System Configuration under Services. So I did that......but still no windows explorer upon start-up.

What can I do in order to boot with explorer.exe starting as it should? Using Vista Home as my O/S, if it makes a... Read more

A:Windows doesn't start up

I would try a Windows CheckDisk (chkdsk) at this point as this may be file system corruption. Boot from the Windows installation CD and select Recovery Console. Once you get to the DOS prompt, enter CHKDSK /R It should take between 20 to 40 minutes to complete depending on the size of your installation and the amount of file system corruption.

Repost if you still have problems.

i had a pretty nasty case of spyware - the ultimate cleaner fake anit-spyware spyware. the computer slowed down tremendously. pop-ups and fake windows alerts were springing up everywhere. i went on a different computer (the one i'm on now) and was reading how to get rid of it and trying to get some help from a few sites. i was strongly recommended true sword, but in retrospect, i think they were just trying to get me to buy true sword. i ran the program in safe mode and i'm not sure if it did anything because when i tried to start my computer up normally, windows doesn't start up. it begins the process of starting then stops and starts it all over again - it'll just keep cycling like this forever without starting up. is this part of the spyware? did true sword corrupt a file that windows needs to open? please help.

Thank You.

do you get into the bios? or does that crash too?

try to put a memory testing tool onto a diskette from another computer. (memtest 86 or better windows memory diagnostic tool.) and run through the procedures to see if your memory is messed.

everyone would also say that it might be your PSU but in my opinion thats a myth in most cases.

in the worst case it might be a broken motherboard and/or overclocked/messed cpu.

is everything plugged in correctly? maybe some more information would be helpful.

So, I had a ton of problems with my computer (corrupted files, registry, etc) until I found out that the hard drive was the responsible. (70ish bad sectors) I bought one last week. The computer ran fine. Last night I got some errror about a DLL being corrupt (I think it was sxs.dll) and I had to run CHKDSK. After a while I turned the system off. Today I turn it on, CHKDSK runs automatically, then the system fails at starting up: the mouse arrow appears, but nothing more.

It can't be the hard drive, as it's new. Bad RAM maybe? Could it be some software? P2P, games, virus, anything? Is there a way to fix it? I'm not gonna format, there's too much data at stake. I'm using XP SP1, with AVG.

I swear I'm going to kill somebody if I'm not able to fix it permanently. Every freaking week the computer comes up with something new. I'm not going to fork more money except for a brand new computer. (or RAM)

Tried researching this but to no avail. For some reason, using Start..Run..CMD brings up the 'Open With' dialog box. Typing Start..Run..CMD.EXE launches command prompt with no problem. This has always worked in the past, and does on some other XP boxes I have, but just not this one. Thanks.

i have a dc7600 hp pc and it has been getting slower and slower. So when Christmas rolled around, i asked some for a new cpu, and memory for my pc. I know a little like the socket has to be the same(LGA 775) and i even asked for the same fsb (800 MHz) for the processor and asked for equivalent stuff for the ram. I got a cpu so that's what i'm concerned with at the moment. I got the intel celeron E3400. It is one that I asked for thinking that it would work. I am going from a Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.40GHz, x86 Family 15 Model 4 Stepping 3, i don't know what the "x86 Family..." means. Anyways, when i took out the old cpu, i applied some thermal paste and then used the old heatsink because it was a screw in kind instead of the push in type which i couldn't get to hold securely. When everything was hooked up, i tried to start and the pc and the cpu and the case fan spun for less then a second and stopped, that is all that happened, no video no nothing, everything shut off. so after a while of searching i updated the bios to 1.61, i tried to update the microcode but wasn't sure how. this is as far as i made it... i have reinstalled the old cpu and everything works fine... oh when the new cpu was in i hit the button several times and it started beeping and blinking red lights, i looked up the code and it was the thermal protection activation, but it only did that if i were to hit the power button repeatably... Since a moment now, I can't start my Windows XP computer. The computer itself turns on fine, but the screen turns completely black just after I select if I want to start normally or in safe mode.
If I choose to start with the "Last good configuration" or in VGA mode, sometimes I get an error message saying that the isapnp.sys file is missing (or sometimes hal.dll), but even if I put back those files using the Windows XP CD, Windows still doesn't start and nothing works any better.
Here is what I tried so far:
Fixboot command
Chkdsk /r command
Bootcfg command
Reset the CMOS by removing the battery
Removing/switching up the RAM
Restarting in safe mode, last good configuration and VGA mode
Unplugging the mouse and every USB device (except the keyboard since the computer can't start without one)
I don't really know what I should try next. I probably have some copies of my most important files and documents on my other computers, but I'd still really like to keep most of my stuff intact since I'm not 100% sure that the backups I have are up to date
Thank you in advance for your suggestions!

It's possible the hard drive is failing. Please download Parted Magic here. Burn the iso file on a WIndows 7 or later computer by right clicking the iso and selecting Burn Disk Image or use a program like Imgburn.
Boot the Parted Magic Disk and click the Disk Health icon on the desktop. Run the short and long tests. Do they pass? You can use the file manager to copy files from the internal drive to a USB flash or external drive.
